Password types :

Power On Password (pop). this password can be reset by unplugging the cmos battery for a while, and plugging it back in.

Supervisor/bios Password (svp). this requires reading the eeprom chip (8 leg or 14 leg) with an electronic device by using another pc's serial port or by paperclip method if model type available.

Hard Drive Password (hdp). this is usually tied to svp, but not all the time. it requires special software and a library of known manufacturer's password. but can be cracked either recovering the data or wiping the data.

To the password keeper ...

I have a good friend that has asked for my assistance. This person has assisted me in the past with personal issues, and I have a big debt to repay to him. He has asked me to remove the protection on a laptop that he purchased on the street for his daughter as he is a person of limited means.

I am by trade a computer technician and have worked around the BIOS password however, the HD is also protected. He does not as I do not have the required funds to purchase another hard drive for this machine. Your password would assist me in partially repaying my debt to my friend and allow me to offer a young lady a chance to experience the internet.

I hope this helps.

Thank You

Thank you SIR .....

You could try my site, it deals with Dell laptops but it may also help your desktop PC.

Have you had a look inside the case, there is sometimes a jumper or dipswitch on the Dell Optiplex ( i have been inside many 250's and 270's) that will wipe the BOIS to defaults, and or remove passwords.

Hi I was wondering if someone can help.
I have a dell d410 with the service tag ending in -595B.
I tried using password.exe but it would not work, their's an administrative password on the computer(bios password) so I can't change any of the reboot settings, I'm completely locked out. I've tried everything.
I'm thinking about short circuiting the eeprom chip on the dell, or replacing the eeprom chip. I really don't know which one is best, or if someone has a password generator or some back door password, or even some technique that has worked. Can someone offer me advice????
Because I read somewhere that when you replace the eeprom chip on dell latitude's when you boot the computer with the new chip the computer explodes, that's suppose to happen because of some type of security measure, Dell has incase labtops are stolen.

Why we don't ask you to run ComboFix from the onset

As stated by the author of ComboFix:

ComboFix is a very powerful tool which when improperly used may render your machine to a doorstop.

We first need to verify if there's any rootkits present and how they could affect our tools. DDS & GMER are preliminary scans. We use their logs to map our strategy for attack.

With these logs we can determine the infections present & decide whether to deploy ComboFix.

I have been asked to get the photos off a Dell Inspiron 2500 laptop. I need to remove the bios password on it, the owner died and his wife would like the photos saved. It is fairly old! in terms of laptops, as it is running windows me and only has 128mb of ram. Does anyone know how to remove this password? and where I can get a manual showing the location of ram and the cmos battery. Thanks in advance.

Simplest thing to do would be to remove the Dell laptop harddrive and connect it via a caddy, something like this USB Caddy to another PC and copy the files you want.
If you go to this page Dell scroll down to PDF documents: Solutions Guide, you will find on page 72 details of how to remove the harddrive.

I've changed my mind about having a BIOS password... how do I stop it from asking me to type my BIOS password everytime I start my pc. Thanks for your help.

Answer:BIOS - Password - removal

You'll have to enter the BIOS to delete it. try restarting the computer and keep tapping the delete key, when the BIOS window opens you'll have to enter the password to access it, look along the menus at the top you should find it there, they are all slightly different so I'm not sure were. Delete the password and restart the computer and it shouldn't ask again.

I have a Toshiba Tecra M11-11M which has been password locked. I have stripped the notebook and removed the BIOS battery for 10 min but the password still remains ie on the screen it still reads PASSWORD- ****.

There is no way to enter the BIOS via any key combination.
There are no markings or letters on the motherboard whatsoever ie: C35-C36 or J12-J13 to short out which would in most cases remove the password and allow access to the BIOS.

Any techies out there with any ideas would be much appreciated.
Some people asking for help with a bios password are not thieves but just forgetful fools.

Answer:BIOS password removal on Tecra M11-11M

As far as I know Toshiba uses several methods for BIOS password removal. On business machines like Tecra or Portege the method is not the same as on Satellite models.
BIOS battery removal maybe works on desktops but not on mobile machines.

Mobile machines must have better protection due to fact that can be pretty easy stolen and it is very important to prevent fraudulent use.
> Some people asking for help with a bios password are not thieves but just forgetful fools.
That?s correct but you cannot expect that BIOS password removal method will be described on public forum. Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and they will do this for you. All you must do is to show valid bill and prove that you are real owner of this Tecra machine.

I purchased 3 lenovo thinkpad sl510 at an auction. They are all password locked. I had assumed that, like almost any other notebook I just needed to locate and remove the cmos battery for a moment and that would remove the password. Turns out not so much. SO I now have three rather expensive paper weights until / unless I can find a way to clear these passwords. Any help would be appriciated. There are several videos out there regarding shorting a couple pins on an eprom while booting up, but I would really like a better source of info than "some guy on ytube" before I start poking metal bits into odd places. Thanks.

Hi, You can remove the need for a power on password as follows. Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to access the Start-up menu and then select f10 to enter the Bios menu.  Use the arrow keys to highlight the Security tab and hit enter.  Use the arrow keys again to highlight power on password and hit enter.  Enter the current password and then for the new password, just leave this blank and hit enter - do the same for the confirmation field.  Press f10, select to save the new settings and hit enter. Regards, DP-K

Hi, The unlock code 44061379 is correct for the hash you mention, so try the following. 1.  Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Plug in the AC Adapter ( leave the battery out for the moment ), start the notebook and try entering the code again. 2.  Try entering the code via an external usb keyboard. 3.  If the power on password just appeared out of the blue, it may indicate an issue with the hdd, which can also prevent the unlock code working - remove the drive ( see Page 56 of your Maintenance & Service Guide ) then power on the machine with the hdd absent and try entering the unlock code again. Regards, DP-K

Hi, I've got problem with my Dell Lattitude X300 laptop. I bought it and the notebook has BIOS password protection. It's not critical, but I can't change any BIOS setting.

I've already tried latitude.exe tool, than DST software from paragon's pages (I don't rememder the exact name).
Moderator Edit:
Here's the free help link:

Now I've tried also the scratching method. I found Atmel 24C256 chip on the board. But when I scratched almost every combination except vcc pin 8 and pin 1. And BIOS password is still there. Something happend because date/time has been reseted and Service and Owner tags have been deleted, but the password protection still remain.

There is not any thread where I can find something about X300. What can I do now?

What's up guys,

I have a problem with a Dell Optiplex GX240, it does not boot up from the CD that I am trying to format with. Well to start with this is what it says when it is turned on:

It says "Strike F1 to retry to reboot, F2 for setup utility"

When I check the setup utility, and the boot sequence it shows that the CD-ROM is not installed.

I checked the cables and they are all connected properly, it was working before. Does anybody know to make it boot from the CD or install the CD ROM.

Thank you.

Answer:Dell Optiplex GX240 BIOS doesn't read CD-ROM

:wave Welcome to Major Geeks! :major

In your 3rd screen shot, it shows all other channels (besides Primary Drive 0) set to "OFF". If your CD is on Secondary Drive 0, you have to change it from "OFF" to "CDROM", or possibly "AUTO", and the jumper on the CD drive must be set to Master. I haven't been in an old Dell BIOS in a while, so I don't know if there's a setting for "AUTO", but I do know that right now you have it turned off, and it must be changed. If this doesn't work, then there's a chance the CDROM is dead, or not getting power. If you can open/close it by pushing the button, then it's getting power....

Also, it looks like the BIOS has been reset or the CMOS battery is dead; it shows a date of Dec 10 2001 and the time as being 00:21:24. You can buy a new battery at any PC store or Radio Shack. Ask for a CR2032 (or just say "a computer CMOS battery"). It shouldn't be more than $3-$4.

DLB'S suggestion, if the date keeps going back , and does not show the correct time, then I have known XP to stop installing, too.
So, check the bios date . If it is incorrect, then a new CMOS batteru looks the most likely start point.

I hope you can help me. I have an Acer One 532h-2223 and I am unable to boot to Windows in any mode at all. When I type in wrong password for BIOS since it has the Insyde H20 BIOS EFI, it doesn't give me a number code of any sort like many websites say it gives. I can't boot to USB, CD or anything at all. I heard of some type of BIOS program that you can install in Windows so you can boot to USB and things like that without the help of a BIOS or not, but can't get into Windows either to do so. Can't restore it either because option may be disabled in BIOS. So I'm in a dead end right now and need help. So hope you can me out with some type of master password or something if there one exists. I ran hard drive test by taking it out and it passed completely, but still unable to boot to Recovery partition using Ctrl. + F10 key so I don't know what else to do. I tried booting to flash drive with the newer updated BIOS files on it so I can flash it, but it just doesn't boot to anything but the hard drive inside the PC. Please help me guys. Thank you.

Someone gave me a Toshiba Satellite laptop A105-S2101 which has a BISO password and he does not remember what it is.
Has anyone has this problem or should I say would anyone know how I could go about resetting the password?

Answer:Toshiba notebook BIOS password removal?

Resetting the BIOS password is fairly straightforward on a desktop - remove the CMOS battery; after a short while (usually 10 to 15 minutes) the BIOS will be reset to the factory settings.

Laptops however present a bit more of a challenge.

There are several guides to using backdoor passwords
Google "resetting bios password laptop"
This will give you a whole range of possible solutions.

If you simply need to bypass the password but not reset it:
most Toshiba laptops will bypass the BIOS password if the left shift key is held down during boot.

My brother is a jerk, and put bios pre-boot authentication on my Dell laptop (relatively new) with an unknown password. I think ok, no problem. Iv got this.

Since reseting via software is not an option, I just fall back on the CMOS coin battery removal to clear the BIOS password, which has worked for me before on a desktop. Took it apart with no problem (thankfully it was above the motherboard, did not have to mess with that) - and took it out. I go to sleep, and a solid 9 hours later I boot it up with the bios boot authentication still there.

A) I am missing an important step once I put the battery back in.
B) There is a back-up-back-up battery somewhere that prevents it being cleared so easily.
C) There is a lot of static electricity that keeps it going. This is what I am counting on until I get a reply from you guys and am leaving out the cmos for a week or so. (Could I ground it somehow?)

Thank you very much in advance!
ps. I took out the battery pack for those 9 hours and the duration of my work.
pps. Calling dell and getting a master pass is also an option, but I do not have a warranty and will not shell out the $60 they want.

I know my Bios administrative/System and Hard disk password. But when I want to remove them I just cannot do so. When I boot my Laptop it asks me for Hard disk Password which I have and can easily log into my Windows 10 SL.
But When I want to enter my BIOS, it asks me two passwords - first HDD Password and after that System Password. I have both and they work as well. After Entering BIOS - under Security - I can only navigate to the following 2 options:-
1 Set User Password
2 Change User Password.

All other options like: Administrator Password, User Password, HDD Password, Set Hard Disk Password, Change Master Password cannot be navigated. My opinion is that I have limited rights when I enter my BIOS.
I have removed my hard disk and entered BIOS but this way also I could not navigate to these options.
I am attaching herewith two print screens. One print screen is when HDD was inside the Laptop and I entered BIOS.
The second Print Screen is when I removed HDD and I entered BIOS.
I have googled and tried many times to remove Admin , Master, HDD Passwords but could not do so.
I have read somewhere that flashing BIOS will overcome this problem. But I have not done flashing of Bios. Anyhelp on flashing of BIOS is most Welcome.

Answer:Question about bios password removal on Satellite A200

Hi there,

unfortunately you won?t get here any secret hints about deleting bios passwords since such passwords were intended to protect a machine against unauthorized access. So, the BIOS password of a mobile computer is in the most cases unrecoverable which leads to the only solution:

Contact an authorised service partner and let the delete the password. But remember that you will be charged since BIOS password removal is not covered under warranty. Every manufacturer does it this way, otherwise it would be easy to steal a machine, ask someone from a forum and then use the stolen machine.

You know what I mean? Here?s a link to find the nearest availble ASP in your country: 000000871

I want to remove BIOS Password in ACER TM8471 Windows 7. Please help me.

Answer:Removal of BIOS Password in ACER TM8471 Windows

The removal of BIOS password can be done in two ways: Method 1:Using eSettings management:Step 1: Open Start Menu by clicking the Start button on your desktop.Step 2: Go to All Programs > Empowering Technology > Acer eSettings Management.Step 3: Click BIOS Passwords near the footer of the screen.Step 4: With the Create Password or Remove Password options, you should be able to regain control. Method 2:For this method, you will have to open your computer. If you are not comfortable doing it alone, consult a technician or take the computer to a store.Step 1: Disconnect the power cord from the desktop computer or laptop.Step 2: Remove the cabinet cover of the desktop. For a laptop, turn it upside-down and remove the battery. Open the hard drive compartment by sliding the cover out. Unscrew and pull out the hard drive from the laptop.Step 3: Locate a coin-shaped clock battery (also known as CMOS Lithium battery) and remove it. Keep it aside for at least an hour. For a laptop, disconnect the tiny power lead that connects the clock battery to the motherboard. Keep it disconnected for at least an hour.Otherwise, you can also locate a BIOS reset jumper marked CLRP1. Move this jumper to Clear position. Let it be in this condition for at least an hour.Step 4: After about an hour, replace the battery in the socket or move the jumper back to the Run position.Step 5: Fit the cabinet cover and start the computer. The computer or laptop should now boot up without asking for any... Dear forum,

Toshiba's online and paper manuals for my Satelite L40-19C mention the possibility to use BIOS-Setup passwords, but withholds how to set, change, or remove it. (AMI BIOS ...CRESTLINE-TOS...) On it's website the company seems to hush up about it as well.
The L40-19C's utility "Toshiba-Assist" does not offer a posibility to work on the BIOS.

I tried to set the password by intuition, and it worked. Weeks later I tried to remove it: I typed in the old password and left the field for the new password blank. That's the usual procedure to delete a BIOS-Setup password.
At the next boot up, however, the BIOS asked for a password. No password worked: Not the old one, nor just ENTER - nothing.

So, by obscuring a vital function of a product, Toshiba rendered my notebook useless. If I hadn't been in a position to delete the contents of the BIOS-CMOS (yes, it is possible without paid service), I may have held the company legally responsible.
There are explicit laws about insufficient documentation in Germany.

I like to use the BIOS-Setup password function for obvious reasons of security and certainly like to spare Toshiba the embarrassment to return my money for fumbled documentation.

I prefer greatly to receive a correct, complete and understandable documentation by Toshiba on how to use all of the product's functions, including all of the BIOS-Setup password functions. And of course I like to see - for the benefit of all L40 users of this foru... Read more

Answer:Satellite L40-19 - Need instruction for BIOS password set, change, removal

The BIOS Password is a security feature to deter theft and protect data. So obviously Toshiba wont allow us to post instructions on how to remove password, or place this information in the users manual.

To remove a password, the unit should be sent with the Proof of Purchase to an Authorized Service Center for password removal.

If the unit malfunctioned and the BIOS Password set itself, then the unit should be sent to an ASP for repair.

Have you updated the BIOS? Its important to have the latest BIOS on portable PC's.

Hi all,
Just received my new D620. However, bios admin password is set, boot order=hard disk only, and good old method with my still ready ide hard disk from paragon's site, that I have used twice with success (great job!) is not anymore applicable: D620 ships now with S-ATA hard disk...
Before investing too much in new hardware/adapter, I really wonder if I could apply the same method, as I have a doubt that a W98 boot disk would be able to "format c: /s" a S-ATA drive.

Hello, I want to install a fresh operating system so I've got it burnt to a DVD (bootable). But when I go to set the boot order to boot from CD/DVD first, I can't change anything because the BIOS is passworded.

This is my computer, it is a Dell Dimension e510, there was talk on other forums about "Master Passwords" that have to be generated by Dell. Unfortunately, since I purchased this computer back in 2007, I don't have a warranty anymore and Dell won't even do live chat?

Should I try to just get through to them via phone or e-mail, or does anyone know how to generate these passwords? (I have the service tag since that's what it seems you need).

Dell will do it for a price, if you register the machine in your name, and wait. 21 days, if you send the machine to them and pay them more that it is worth.

When i was ordering this laptop i was told that this laptops hard drive does support hardware encryption. I thought it would be as easy as setting the HDD Password in BIOS (like with some other SED SSD's)
I actually can't find HDD Password in BIOS anywhere.

Does this laptop come SSD capable of hardware encryption?

Answer:Dell XPS 15 95602 HDD password in BIOS?

Hard drive encryption and a hard drive password are two separate things.  Putting a password on the drive doesn't encrypt it -- that requires a  utility to do (it's done under Windows).
Is this a single SSD or an SSD + hard drive?

Earlier today, I madea horrible mistake, and installed Intel Active Monitor 1.2.2 on my Dell XPS 410. After frantic searching (it screwed over my BIOS settings so only my fans turned on when I powered on the computer) I removed the backup battery and let the BIOS reset.

When I turned the comp on, it actually turned on!! Unfortunatly, I encountered a BIOS password screen. My old BIOS password obviously didnt work, so I tried calling Dell. They refused to help me unless I pay them $39.00 since my warranty expired.

Ive bought 3 comps and 4 monitors from them over the last 3 years, and if this is the customer support I get, they will NEVER see another penny from me. In that light, I would like to see if theres a way to bypass this factory password, before I go out and upgrade my mobo/processor/ram.

Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 1.0.3

BIOS version 1.0.3

Ive tried the following backdoor passwords, to no avail:

Thanks in advance

Answer:Help removing Dell BIOS password

Can you get to windows or does it come up with the password straight away?
There are two options I can think of:
1. Open the laptop and remove the CMOS battery for about 20mins and then put it back in, may not do anything but its worth a try.
2. the other option is get the newset BIOS firmware and boot into DOS, if you can, and flash the BIOS, theoreticaly it should wipe the old firmware and give you a fresh start.

Hi Rustam,

I have been searching for months - please can you help me with this?

I have a d620 - #J7WNB2J-595B - i have the grey screen.

Can you help me unlock this please.

I am very new to this forum so please excuse if this is the wrong place to post this.

Answer:Dell d620 Bios password

No, your problem is not fixable without sending the computer to Dell.
This has been well established on this forum. You will not find the answer here... because there is no answer. The D620 appears to have a problem that only a EEPROM programmer with the proper programming tools, and software, and code books, can fix.

Hello, I need urgent help, I am trying to find the jumper to reset my BIOS password as I have forgot it, I have been on many sites but cannot find a diagram of my board - U400 INTEL Motherboard A000029990

Please can anyone help.

Answer:Satellite Pro U400 - PSU41E BIOS Password removal, cannot find the jumper

Hello Chris

You know very well that BIOS password is very important security feature so we cannot discuss about this in public forum. At least you cannot expect that we can discuss about it on Toshiba forum.

BIOS password is important for many notebook owners who want to protect their notebooks and saved data. This explanation here can be abused and every stolen notebook with BIOS protection can be ?unlocked?.

Toshiba service provider in your country can help you with this.

I acquired a Dell Optiplex GX620 from a defunct company that was security obsessed (20+ character passwords, etc.) and they locked the bios with a password.

After doing some research I came up with the following suggestions:

-Remove the CMOS battery for a long period of time which would supposedly clear all BIOS settings, including the password. DId it. Didn't work
-Try a number of manufacturer bios passwords as discussed here. DId it. Didn't work
-Use !BIOS to try to figure out the password. DId it. Didn't work

Part of the problem is that I think this is a proprietary Dell motherboard, so the countless Award or AMI motherboard passwords don't work.

All I want to do is install Windows 7 and I can't change the boot sequence! Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Answer:How to clear the bios password on a Dell Optiplex

Could press F12 when the BIOS is loading for the boot selection menu.

I have a client's machine on which one of his darling little brats has created or reset the BIOS password and now denies all knowledge of the thing. I seem to recall there is either a means of generating the default password from the Service Tag or, failing that, shorting out one of the motherboard chips. That I have done before but would prefer to know which chip it is.
The system is a Dell Dimension 3100.
Anyone able to help before I condemn the thing to perdition and a drop kick into the neighbours wheelie bin?

Answer:Missing Dell BIOS (boot) password

Difficult task.
What you describe will not happen. But you can check with Dell support to see if the computer is registered to that owner. Then Dell will send someone out as an authorized service rep with a little disk that runs the fix... and has a cost.
I would first see if the hard drive can be accessed while installed in an external USB enclosure.
If it can, then even if passworded, you can put in a replacement drive. And Dell XP install disk will work.
Then you can buy a Dell motherboard on eBay. Many Optiplex boards are cheaper, and work better than the Dimension boards... for a cheaper price... around $70 to $85.... or refurbished Dell government computers are for sale at PCSurplusonline for $120 to $180 with shipping... just move the board into the 3100. And the dell OS will work.
