Slow Computer And Slow Internet...am I Clean?

Question: Slow Computer And Slow Internet...am I Clean?

I've used many of the programs on this site to attempt to clear anything slowing down my computer and taking up bandwidth but SLOW still persists to the point of almost unuseable. If i'm not clean, can you assist? If I am clean...another call to the cable company.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 4:50:12 PM, on 10/24/2007Platform: Windows 2000 SP4 (WinNT 5.00.2195)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINNT\System32\smss.exeC:\WINNT\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINNT\system32\services.exeC:\WINNT\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINNT\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007\aawservice.exeC:\Program Files\APC\APC PowerChute Personal Edition\mainserv.exeC:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exeC:\WINNT\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINNT\system32\regsvc.exeC:\WINNT\system32\MSTask.exeC:\WINNT\system32\stisvc.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\TiVo Shared\Beacon\TivoBeacon.exeC:\WINNT\system32\ZONELABS\vsmon.exeC:\WINNT\Explorer.EXEC:\WINNT\System32\WBEM\WinMgmt.exeC:\WINNT\system32\mspmspsv.exeC:\WINNT\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINNT\System32\svchost.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgcc.exeC:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exeC:\WINNT\CYB2K.EXEC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\AIM\aim.exeC:\Program Files\YourWare Solutions\FreeRAM XP Pro\FreeRAM XP Pro.exeC:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware.exeC:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exeF:\Spybot - Preferred Solution: Slow Computer And Slow Internet...am I Clean?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Slow Computer And Slow Internet...am I Clean?

Hello fsiracusa,While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things. Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.Open Spybot Search & Destroy. In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.Expand the "Tools" menu.Click "Resident".Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE)6 Update 3...allows end-users to run Java applications".Click the "Download" button to the right.Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". The page will refresh.Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version. Are you aware of these entries, or do they look familiar?O15 - Trusted Zone: http://kaplank12.achieva.comO15 - Trusted Zone: http://streaming.kaplan.comO15 - Trusted Zone: http://streaming.kaptest.comO15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.kaptest.comO15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.wordreference.com

Concurrent wil all this, something is resetting my trackpad settings back to default on every reboot. Solved this last summer by removing something from Logitech, but the problem is back now. Weird.

Internet MUCH slower than usual, responses sluggish on- and offline. System fans kick on within 2-3 minutes of startup. I've run all the usuals - McAfee, Ad-Aware, SpyBot, disk cleanup, and chkdsk. Hard boot after all that, then ran HijackThis:

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

Hi The computer  that is slow is a desk top tower. In a home.  it is a E machine.
it has windows 7  professional  with service pack 1
DO KNOW :  I am very new to windows 7 and all it's features.
When I brought this computer home  last Nov. it was lightening fast at everything! so much better than  the windows XP  it replaced, I was thrilled.  yet Now starting in  April 2015  it is as slow  or slower  as my old Windows with XP ever was  ( and partially the reason for saving my  pennies to get this windows 7 computer)...and  now I'm upset. feeling  like I have been taken.

Computer displays the following :
3.8 windows experience index
Intel pentium dual 2.0Ghz  processor
64 Bit

Has Ccleaner installed
has Comodo antivirus and Comodo cleaning essentials installed.
All virus scans  find no infections,  and report that all is well and protected.  ( B/C of the way the computer is operating i'm doubting that and betting there is an infections of some sort)

I Have run Comodo cleaning essentials and  results find no abnormalities or infections.
Have run TFC and JRT  and the computer shows no signs of improvement.
have run rKill  and it  finds  no abnormalities  or infections.
All virus scan results  find no infections.
Windows updates is activated  and  all latest updates have been installed.... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 computer suddenly slow to get on internet, slow to browse websites etc

Hi flywelder Maybe we aren't looking at an infection here. There's tons of reasons why a system can slow down, and not all of them are malware related. Let's try to take a look at this issue under another angle shall we?MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:List Installed Programs;List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;List Devices - Only Problems;List Users, Partitions and Memory size;Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Please copy/paste the content of the output log in your next reply;

This is my first time posting a question on bleeping computer. We are so thankful that you are out there to help us and not rip us off. I think my computer is infected. My desktop starts up very slowly, my internet connection is slow (it's slow in pulling up websites and some never come up). I'm getting lots of pop ups (even though pop up blocker is enabled). When I go to open the control panel, a flashlight pops up as if it is looking for it (it eventually does open but it takes a while). I had a problem at one time with a lot of POS.TMP files and followed advice from posts on this site to get rid of them. Well, my current problems started when a friend downloaded a music program. I believe it was called Soundman. When I noticed the computer acting funny, I went into the control panel and deleted it along with some other programs I found (PPC Booster, P2P Max, Ron Tool Adsoftinc, Wyzo, Eco Bar). Any help will be greatly appreciated. If you have not done so, include a description of your problem, along with any steps you may have performed so far.Upon completing the steps below a staff member will review and take the steps necessary with you to get your machine back in working order clean and free of malware. At first glance I see that you have quite a bit of infection on there. It appears that someone has been doing file sharing on that computer, so the fact that it is infected is understandable. Please remove P2P (file sharing programs) before I clean your computer. Hey, basically computer's been a bit slow and tried clearing some stuff and done other things, but still no luck, to make things worse internet's been a lot slow and when using either firefox and internet explorer. For example when going on youtube some videos would freeze in the middle and i would have to reload the page, and sometimes takes ages to load a page.

So here's my DDS log and hopefully the problem can be diagnosed, thank you.

Hello, i'll be grateful if you could help us with a problem that we are having with our laptops at home. Let me to explain you, my wife have his own laptop at home, as I have mine laptop too, both of the computers share a wi-fi internet conection. I'm not sure of what's going on but the internet conection it's extremely slowly, sometimes when we reboot our laptops there is no internet conection. According to our ISP there's no problem with the internet conection, they said it could be something with the laptops.

Now, It's true that the two laptops are more slowly, specially my wife's laptop, it takes too long for any processes, I always take a look to the running processes and it seems like there are too much process always but I'm not sure of what is good and whats isn't.

I decided to attach The HiJack log from my wife's laptop, maybe with this you could help us to figure out what's going on.

Thanks for your time!

Hello, my computer has been extremely slow on boot and my desktop has been hijacked with a message about changing it to a website. I also have a program called "error fix" showing up on my desktop and I have no idea where it came from. I've run Malware Bytes twice on the computer with numerous problems found. After running it the second time, I got a message saying I needed to run CHKDSK which I ran. Also, my internet is running very slowly and I just got a message that says "A program on your computer has corrupted your default setting for Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has reset this sietting to your original search provider, Live.Search (search.live.com). Internet will now open Search Settings, where you can change this setting or install more search providors."

Here is my Hijackthis Log, if you need the MBAM logs, please let me know and I will post those as well.

Hey I recently bought a new computer that is much better than my old one in stats but its not acting like it.

Windows XP
Service Pack 3
Intel Dual Core E5200
2.50GHz
2GB RAM

Now it was running ok to begin with but then the internet started having problems. It kept dropping out or fluctuating in speed and nothing seemed to fix it. It didnt happen on my old system it sat nicely at 54MB/s all the time.

Then the rest of the computer started going slow to start up so i got rid of some start up programs and desktop items which didnt seem to do much. And now ive noticed that when songs are playing in itunes they skip seconds every now and then.

Also when i click for programs to come up after i wait till everything is started up properly i have to wait a minute or two before they open. And burning DVDs has doubled in how long it takes.

Any ideas of what could be wrong, ive scanned for viruses using Avira and spyware using SUPERantispyware, ive cleaned registry using Registry easy and removed all unnecesary crap using CCleaner.

It got suggested that my computer was going slow because of AVG8 so i got rid of it and with got Avira but it slowed up again.

Some kind of trojan invaded my computer I believe. I ran Symantec and it deleted a bunch of entries but the auto-protect kept popping up to block something labeled Downloader and file "kernel32.exe" I was eventually able to delete it in safe mode after turning off the system restore. But then the auto-protect kept blocking Adware.Webbuying with file name qmlqrib.dll (both of these were in system32 folder according to the log), but there was no file by that name anywhere. I ran Ad-Aware which removed two entries with a level 10 threat assessment named BookedSpace and Win32.TrojanClicker, however the Adware.Webbuying continued to be blocked by Symantec. I then ran Spybot which found and deleted numerous entries and I no longer get auto-protect for Adware.Webbuying. However, I continue to get pop-ups, internet is slower, computer is slower, and it seems to prevent downloads after a certain point in time (haven't made it past 20% of a file from various different sites ranging from 4-20 MB). Who knows what else it is doing; hopefully not downloading my personal data. Please lend me a hand if you can. Thanks. I have included my HijackThis log:

I did a Win10 clean install and updated all my drivers. Now, my download speed is extremely low. I was getting 15 down, but now it's like 2.

Answer:Internet is slow after clean install

Does your system support Windows 10 drivers? You need to make sure that the Ethernet/Wireless drivers are fully up-to-date.

So last week my computer's boot process got messed up so it couldn't boot anymore. I didn't manage to repair it either, so I did a clean Windows 7 installation in the end. I installed the OS, it's updates and my most-used programs. Aside from some Steam/Origin games everything was finished by last Tuesday (11-12), so after that no other programs were installed.

Last Friday evening (11-15) my internet suddenly became slow. This was especially noticeable when downloading something or playing a youtube video (which was slow even on 144p!).
At first I thought it was my ISP or something. While not common, it isn't unusual either. So I let it go through the weekend, expecting it to be fixed on Monday at latest. Except it didn't.

So since last Monday (11-18) I've been trying to fix this problem. I tested my internet on my phone and laptop, and it was at normal speed on both of them. Yet it was still slow on my computer. So it was definitely my computer, and not the internet, ISP or whatsoever.

I've tried the following solutions, all have failed though:
- Try a different browser. I've tried Firefox 25, Chrome 31, and IE11. All of them were just as slow.
- a complete system scan with both Avira Antivir and Malwarebytes. Both reported no detections.
- Clean the computer with CCleaner.
- Perform a system recovery. The earliest restore point was Thursday (11-14), but even on that point the internet is slow, despite it wasn't originally on that date.
- Reinstall/update the network driv... Read more

Hi, computer has been running pretty slow lately, I was thinking it might be a virus, but it looks like my logs are pretty clean. Now I'm kinda thinking it might be related to AVG, especially since it seemed to run faster when I disabled it for the scans. Maybe I just need to uninstall it and upgrade to AVG 2013?

Thanks for the help.

Answer:Slow computer and clean up

Hello fleka,

I'm not seeing much of anything in this log. Have you installed any new programs recently?

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Standard CleanUp!"
*Uncheck the following:
-Delete Newsgroup cache
-Delete Newsgroup Subscriptions
-Scan local drives for temporary files
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.
Note: CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! If you have a 64 bit Operating System do NOT run Cleanup and let me know as we will use another utility

Perform an online scan using Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner Click Check Now & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it

Answer:Please help Clean my SLOW computer!

On Thursday I decided I was going to do a clean install of windows 7. I initially had windows home, but installed windows 7 pro this time.
I created a backup on my external and proceeded to do a clean install.
When the install was finished. I installed the motherboard drivers, then the video card drivers.

The motherboard drivers had a disk to install a few things on the disk including:
intel chipset driver
realtek audio
management engine interface
jmicron jmb36x controll driver
marvell sata 6G ahci Driver
Intel LAN driver
ASmedia
Asus Bluetooth driver

I went down the list and installed each of the items.
When this was all down, windows update started to update... at an extremely slow rate.
Before the clean install my internet was working fine but not its beyond slow. It took over an hour to download 153mb of updates. It takes minutes to load a page (such as this one).
I should mention that I am using a hard-wire connection, not a wireless one.

My specs are
Board - asus P8z68V pro
Processor - intel core i7-2600k
the network adapter is a intel 82579V gigabit network connection (on the board).

I tried to un-install the network adapter and re-install to no avail.

Has anyone experienced slow internet after a clean install?
Any ideas what I should do? I figured it was just being slow internet that happens once in a blue moon, but 2 days with the same connection is getting frustrating.

Answer:After a clean install.. my internet is extremely slow.

Not sure if this is relevent but...
In the computer management section, under device manage -- > network adapters there is:
Bluetooth device (personal area network) #2
Bluetooth device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) #2
intel 82579V gigabit network connection

Is it possible that they are conflicting with each other?

A few days ago my laptop started acting very sluggish while browsing the web. Scan with Spybot S&D revealed a few infections, most of them variations of Vundo and Virtumonde. I cleaned the infection, and rescanned with Spybot, Avast!, Symantec, VundoFix (Ad-Aware keeps saying 'could not connect to service', and Malwarebytes always freezes and can't be shut off). All subsequent scans have been clean. I bought a router to hide behind, uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, and tried virus scanning in safe mode (clean). I cleaned all my temporary internet files, cookies, cache, etc., but Firefox is still buggy. It often takes a long time to to load images and videos. When I log into Facebook and try to go to my profile, it simply says "done" and reloads the page I'm on.

I am running Windows XP Professional with service pack 3.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Answer:Scans appear clean, internet buggy and slow

If you are not finding any more malware, then either there is more malicious files hidden (undetected) on your system causing problems or the issue is with Firefox.Optimizing FireFox:Firefox Tweak GuideHow To Make Firefox FasterFirefox Running Slow? Hiya,

I had my cpu crash: of which two other threads give a background:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/micr...sing-data.html
http://www.techsupportforum.com/micr...pre-vista.html

I ended up just re-loading vista, losing all of my c: data. I re-loaded all my other programs, my backup data, and it seemed fine. My installation of MS Office went poorly, as I forgot to first remove the "trial" edition, and overlapped installed the Licensed edition..I was unable to remove the trial edition after this, and tried a few manual removes to free up some space.

I mention this only because its the only thing I can think of which is slowing down my cpu, to a Crawl. Load / starting up takes ~10 minutes before I can actively search or use a program, sometimes (even now doing the scan's / logs) everything slows to a crawl.

My c: has ~40 gig free out of 110 gig, it is defragged every month.
MOST of my problems also seem to have started when I switched over from Kaspersky (paid), to Comodo (latest). I uninstalled Kaspersky first of course, but maybe Comodo is just a huge resource hog?

Also running spybot (safesurf only, spybot S & D is only used for a scan every now and then, not actively in the background), SAS (scan only, non-real time), CCleaner.

Windows security alerts are always on, saying I don't have user-control activated..though it detects my spyware / Comodo firewall (it didn't for a few weeks).

All my scans, including comodo, spybot, SAS only... Read more

Hey Everyone,

First off I'm pretty new here I know..........

My problem is that my internet connection is pretty slow on my main computer. It's an older (6 years) Dell. I'm still running XP and IE7. I have Comcast cable and it's connected through a Linksys modem. The problem is that the internet response on this machine is pretty slow. I have a laptop that I use and that is much better. I would figure that my "main" computer would be faster since it has a hard connection, not wireless.

I know that isn't much info so ask away and I do what I can to provide all the info needed.

Thanks!!!!!!

Ok I recently noticed that my computer is taking longer to load and also it lags when running programs. In addition, I noticed that my internet was slow. I use Yahoo DSL.

I defraged my hard drive with Auslogics Disk Defrag and it did not speed anything up. I did a adaware and spybot scan. And it did not help. So I decided to come here.

Following the steps, I ran an activescan and it found only 1 trojan that could explain my slow internet problem (hxxp://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/security-info/about-malware/encyclopedia/overview.aspx?idvirus=143883]). It was removed. I always had IE-SQUAD and Spyware blaster enabled and up to date. And I did my windows update. I am running Win XP SP2, not SP3, since there were a few things my computer cannot do that I need on SP3.

But my computer is still running slow and "locks up" briefly. If anyone can help, I would be very thankful. Thank you!

Below is my Hijack log and attached is my activescan log:

Hi,

I've noticed recently that my PC is not being able to keep up with my fast thinking brain.
It would take 1 minute to open up Firefox when it used to take 3-4 seconds.

I thought that maybe it needed some cleaning so I did what I could and came here for anything more.
Here is what I did so far -

-Atf Cleaner
-Msconfig
-MBAM
-Super anti spyware
-Old files delete
-Disk Defragmenter
-Disk Cleanup
-Delete useless accounts
-Avast Antivirus scan
-That's about it!
But it still runs slow(I'm contemplating Clean install of XP Pro)

What can you do for me?

I'm trying to help out a friend with a slow computer. She only told me she was getting an error message saying she needed more memory, and her new DVD ROM has never worked.

Turned out to be virtual memory, which I increased. I seldom see that error now. It's still very slow, so I've done a little basic cleanup. (Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster, Malware Bytes Super AntiMalware, CCleaner. I also disabled some start-up items with CCleaner and Start-up Delayer. I don't know if that's better than msconfig or not.) It's still too sluggish and unresponsive to address the DVD issue.

As I'm near the end of MY knowledge, I was hoping one of you more knowledgeable folks might spot something in the logs. I'll paste 'em/ attach 'em per your instructions, then I'm off to start backing up her pics and docs. Thank you!

Hi,
First of all Happy New Year to everybody who is helping people here with the cleaning process. You are all doing very important stuff for people.
Now, to my problem. During the new year celebration I was invited to my wife's brother house and eventually was asked to look at his laptop as it become slow.
I did uninstall couple of things manually and then run R&R process.
MalwareBytes did find some stuff which was successfully cleaned. Ether Hitman Pro or TDSSKiller did find some more, but said that it is OK.

So now I'm wondering if the system is really clean.
Could someone please take a look?

Thank you.

[EDIT]
P.S.: I just woke this machine up and there is a lot of HDD activity going on. So I presume something is still present...

If you do not use Windows Messenger Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Re run Hitman and have it remove Potential Unwanted Programs.

Fix items using RogueKiller.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7/8 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
Now click the Registry tab and locate this 1 detection:

Place a checkmark next to each of these items, leave the others unchecked.
Now press the Delete button.
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)
Reboot the machine.

Download and run OTM.

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

It have a pop out alert that it say that I haven't update and such and the Layout look like Adobe Flash player update box. Though it was really suspicions.
MBAM haven't found anything but TDSSKiller did found 3 rootkits but totally unrelated (I think). I also have a feeling it might be also a spy ware. Could anyone help me with a thorough cleaning?

I am getting all this stoppage and my comp is really bogging down, I'm wondering if any of you know what can be deleted in the prog files safely, I am even getting this crap, translicense internet, it's some kinda toolbar, and it comes up everytime I open a new screen while browsing. It is really getting frustrating, I've tries adaware, spybot, and spy sweeper, and I do get rid of some shit, but the rest just hides somewhere. Any help for a n00b would be appreciated. Thx

Answer:I'm trying to clean up my computer, runs SOOO slow

First, eliminate all the spyware. Spybot, adaware, blah blah see sticky http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=766094

Second. remove unneeded startup programs by launching "msconfig" from the run menu. Tab to startup, and turn off unneded programs. If unsure what is needed, post a screenshot.

am currently working on an ACER Aspire 3000, with an AMD Semron 2800+ and 256mb. This computer is super slow, but all the scans I have ran are coming up clean. The drive was heavily degragmented, which I have taken care of already. And Im sure some extra memory will work well.I followed all the steps in the post with instructions on how to post to this forum. I used all the programs listed, and used ALL of the online scanners. Nothing is coming up.The only thing I was unable to do was do a Windows Update. I am getting the following error:Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To continue:It then gives the option to reinstall/ re-register the files, but these leads to an endless loop. Here are my hijackthis logs. i first noticed that ie7 was getting extremely slow and it will also starts to slowly eat up memory the longer i run explorer. if i shut down explorer and open it up again, the memory usage gets a little more normal. not sure if this is just another ie7 inefficiency or related to something more sinister.

i've run panda a couple of times and seem to clean the same trojan it's finding more than once. so, it doesn't seem to really be going away.

you guys are fantastic, thanks in advance!!

Hello. My computer is running very slowly lately. I had it on before college and checked facebook then shut it down It was running perfectly before I turned it off. When I turned it back on a few hours later, it took about 3 minutes to load up and another 2-ish minutes for all the icons to show up. Also, all the sounds that play studder. Its like youtube videos that aren't loaded all the way. This happens even if they are played through window's media player and not the internet. I have scanned it with Microsoft Security Essentials, it says its clean, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, it found one broken file and deleted it, ESET online scanner, which said my computer was clean, and finally I scanned it with Trend Micro Housecall, it was also clean. Other than an unknown virus that wasn't detected, I have no idea what could be slowing down my computer. Is there anything I can try to get my computer back up to speed? PLEASE HELP!!!

Emily, I am going to have your thread moved to a more appropriate forum. You are describing system problems, especially a possible problem with the sound card. Stay subscribed to be notified when someone replies.

Windows 7 Ultimate Version
This computer has been running incredibly slow for about a week now. I can only think of one thing I did and that was upgrade to the free AVG 11 (I have uninstalled it since). The scans never find any malware. I am posting the logs so maybe someone can give me an idea as to why it is so slow all of a sudden.
I also cleaned the actual computer and reset every plug and memory module and defragmented the drives even though it said they didn't need it. I ran the check disk too.

Thanks for any help.
Tom

Answer:Computer running slow no malware found is it clean?

I am not finding any malware in your logs. My suggestion is to first, uninstall ThreatFire, then post in the software forum to find out what is eating your memory:

Code:
Total Physical Memory 2.50 GB
Available Physical Memory 67.7 MB
Since you are not having any malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)

Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
"%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall

Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you c... Read more

Hey, i recently reinstalled windows just for a general clean up of the system, and since then my internet has been extremely slow (paticuarly youtube and utorrent). Iv spoken to my isp (DODO) and its nothing on their end. Before the clean install my torrents were downloading up to 2.5mb/s and now they sit at around 20kb/s no matter how many seeds. i did a speedtest and am getting under 1mb download speed and even less for upload. iv tried all different drivers and have searched the internet repitively to find a solution but still cant. What was it about the clean install that changed my speeds? Also im running adsl+2 through a wired connection strsight from modem.

thanks

Answer:Clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium, now internet is extremely slow!

Hello & Welcome to Tech Guy Forum.

After W7 was completely installed, in which order did you install the drives and other software?

At which point did you notice computer slowness?

When did you download the W7 updates? With a slow download speed, I would think that such a large file download would be time consuming.

Internet speed depends upon not only your system but the server load of your ISP [ excelelnt that you checked with them ] and the servers you are trying to access.

Test your up & down speed at a 3rd party site such as www.dslreports.com/speedtest. There are multiple other sites.

No offense intended: I've read that a significant %age of shared files are infected. Which anti malware scans have you performed. I am not authorized by Tech Guy Forum to advise any; the forum has specially trained members for that.

Thanks for posting the system info.

I'm running Windows XP with an AMD Sempron 2.0 ghz Processor with 700MB Ram.

Firefox takes up all this computer power(I know that this is more common with the updated Firefox's but in my case it's still to an extreme). Firefox will stay open after I close it and I will have to use Windows Task Manager to fully close. I've switched to Google Chrome and it is quicker.

Any Java usage slows the computer down incredibly. Even in Chrome it's slow. I can't switch between programs nearly as smoothly as before. Basically everything takes forever now and my computer seems to strain under the workload of what use to be basic usage.

I found two Trojans with Kaspersky Trial scan and I thought that fixed the problem(I eventually got rid of Kaspersky because it was making my slow computer even slower.) Unfortunately I never wrote down their names because my parent dropped me on my head frequently when I was a child.

I've run all the scans and nothing has come up(to my basic and infantile computer knowledge). One problem with the scans was the MGtools would open briefly and the window would only just flash and then dissapear and nothing would run. I blame mostly Jesus for this but Buddha in his infinite wisdom and humbleness has also taken some of the blame.

If you people could help me out that would be great.

sorry, if this not the right place please move. I did many google searches cant seem to find the issue Im having, or maybe lack of the right key searches. You guys are my last hope.
I will try to explain my problem as clearly as I can. And so sorry about my bad grammar and spelling, trying to post this asap.

first off give small history of my PC. I bought my PC new Sept 2001. A HP Pavilion with 1.3 ghz, 256ram, and a 55gig hard-drive originally came with WinMe, since then I upgraded to XP. I kept my PC case clean, didn't try to install programs my PC couldn't handle, didn't go to any sites that knew were bad with viruses and such also had Malwareytes/spybot/avast/hijackthis to use, didnt install any toolbars, and tried not to have many programs open at the same time. I basically kept my PC simple with use.

Anyways around June I noticed some odd slowdowns
While playing Winamp and running a torrent with speeds of more than 400+ the audio would become choppy. This also happen when I would open FF, IE or any program while running Winamp, the audio would be choppy.

Extracting 700mb files from Winrar would take around 8mins

Playing Youtube, WMP, of VLC videos would be slow and choppy.

Transferring files from one PC to another over a crossover cable would take much longer. 4gigs of files would take about 20mins or so.

Virus scanners, Avast, Malwarebytes, and Spybot would also take much longer than usual.

So, about 2 weeks ago while my brother was on Youtube my... Read more

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Thanks guys, I haven't done this in awhile so please bear with me...

After an older system of mine seemed to suddenly slow down and a current Symantec scan came up with nothing I ran Housecall on my system. Housecall found Adware_aeropopups and Adware_memwatcher before Housecall itself slowed down to nothing and died. I could not use Housecall to clean the malware/spyware cookies. I ran the Java Housecall plug-in; not the ActiveX. I then ran defrag and that helped some for the system so it seemed. However, the internet is stll quite slow on many occasions.

I ran Hijackthis and have pasted the log below along with a few system details. I only see GoogleDesktop in the log below as a potential problem. Please help! Everything else seems normal to my untrained eye. I will try adaware next if it is still free to use.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and IE 7.0.5730.11
I run Symantec Norton AV and have installed Avast in an effort to access another AV library. I know they will conflict from time to time and will remove one of them later.

Answer:Not Again! Slow PC, Slow Start Up, Slow Outside of Internet

Hello justanotherguy,

You continue to get reinfected because you are still running unpatched XP.

IMPORTANT!:
Before we can proceed any further, please visit the Microsoft's Windows Update Page and install ALL Critical Updates for your system (except service pack 2 (SP2). SP2 should only be installed on a fully disinfected system.) At the minimum install at least SP1a for both XP and IE6. Without these updates your system is wide open to re-infection and we are both wasting our efforts to clean your system. After we have completed your clean-up, we will have you return to the Windows Update page and install SP2. We will also then advise you on how to better protect yourself online.

Please apply those updates BEFORE posting your next log. It is this forum's policy to stop the disinfection process until these basic updates are done. If during the updating process you get a message that your product key is invalid ....then you may not have a legitimate copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately it?s also this forums policy that we only address users with a legal copy of Windows XP.... therefore if you can not update Windows XP to SP1 we must stop the cleansing process here.

**Note** If you're having trouble locating the service pack SP1a here is a direct link to download it from.

Hello Techspot!!!!

I have had my laptop for nearly 3 years but I wouldn't deem it to be a poor performance laptop. Recently I have been getting slow internet, poor keyboard response and slow scrolling, and it is very frustrating!!! I share the BT 3 homehub with good connection speed which was checked and found fine! My housemates laptop has started having the same problem as mine and I really want to fix this issue. The internet, keyboard and scrolling speeds vary everyday but overall are slow performers. I have looked through some of the threads and have seen people posting long threads of code etc :/ Is there anyone out there who has the time and patience to help me fix this problem? It would be most appreciated!!!

Many Thanks

Dan

Answer:Slow, brand new machine, slow upload on internet broadcast

Hi, One thing sticks out, but there are a lot of other things starting up, you do need to trim startups some...

You have two antivirus programs, Norton and AVG, are both active in the background, starting when the computer does? That alone will cause you problems....use one or the other, save the second, but set it to not run at all when the computer starts...you can do this inside the program itself in almost all cases...look in Options or Settings for the things that are checked to let the program start up and monitor in the background (active protection) and set the one disabled.

I know some folks that work a lot with startup items...you will probably be hearing from some with help for that.

I tried running Copernic a few years ago on what today is an outdated machine and it really bogged things down...used to use a lot of resources that could be better used elsewhere.

So yeah, I've these problems for the past couple days. My browsers (Opera and Firefox) used to load pages quickly, but now they're painfully slow. Opera lags and freezes often; Firefox doesn't, but it still takes a very long time to load pages.

I'm also getting these occasional "invisible ads," even when I don't have a browser open. I can hear the ads but I can't see them.

Also, I sometimes get redirected to unwanted sites. This mostly happens when I click on a search result in Google.

Here are some things I've done:

-Ran SUPERantispyware (I can post the log(s) if needed)
-Defragged hard drive
-Cleaned cache, cookies, etc. on both browsers

Answer:Slow browser, slow internet, random audio ads: virus?

hi all,

it's been a long time since I have had to post something about my problems in these forums. Well over a year as I have had my laptop for over a year now. This may seem like a similar thread to most that have been put up recently but I think it is quite different.

Ever since I have upgraded to IE8 I have noticed Vista be very slow. It could be to do with IE8 but I think that the slowness of my machine has been since before then...according to my wife. Has her facebook shennanegans broken the laptop???!

Here is a list of problems I am getting:
Long start up times. They aren't bothering me that much, just seem to be a bit longer than normal.
Very long time from when Vista has loaded and I can actually do somehting (15 minutes just now to access an mp3 on my desktop and it kept skipping for about 5 minutes before it stops skipping and playing the track normally)
Extremely slow at logging onto the internet. I mean that it takes minutes, literally minutes for IE8 to even display the very first internet page. After that it is slow, but not as bad...still frustrating though.
Changing between programs seems to take a few seconds.
Accessing my computer or my documents is like a game of russian roulette, will it let me or won't it.....£900 on it won't!!!!
On mp3 tracks, if you go back to a certain point in the track it will take a few seconds to actually complete the task

I have about 26gig free on my hard drive. But about 80 gig is used up for phot... Read more

I know it's malware, and from reading the forums I didn't run Comboware (i think that was the name) because the previous issue involved Symantec AV protection. I use AVG, Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes on this machine so didn't use previous advice. BTW, love you guys and use bleepingcomputer all the time to check startup programs. Thank you!

Hello all,
My computer has recently become infected. I've scanned with Malwarebyte's Antimalware, Norton Internet Security, and SuperAntiSpyware. Norton didn't show any results, but Antimalware and Superantispyware both removed a decent amount of items, however I do not think my computer is entirely clean. Whenever I open Firefox, if it even opens, all of my google searches get redirected to different sites. The only site I remember being directed to was zanuga.com, but there were others. This also happens on IE8. I've tried opening Firefox in safemode, and I get the same redirects. I've posted my HiJack This log below.

Oh, and also, I've noticed the creation of HelpAssistant and HelpAssistant.desktop folders in my Documents and Settings directory.

Happy Holidays,

Hi,
Im new to the forum so ill keep it short:
1.My laptop takes 10 mins to start up.
2.The internet page goes pale and says not responding when i start the internet up.
3.My laptop takes agestoshut down.
4 When i write text on internt pages there is a delay in the text coming on the screen
Any ideas on how i can solve thse problems?

Answer:Slow Laptop..slow starting up and loding internet pages

1. Software
a) Clear out all temporary files and folders -- use CCleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
b) Scan for malware spyware and viruses --Free Anti Spyware :-
Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Superantispyware http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html
Free Antivirus software
MicroSoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/security/products/mse.aspx
Avast http://www.avast.com/en-gb/free-antivirus-download
c) Clean the registry -- Use the tool in Crap Cleaner its very safe and also allows you to back up the registry first.
d) Pagefile (Virtual Memory) -- Right click MY Computer - select properties - Advanced tab - Performance -
advanced tab - Virtual memory click change, you can put the page file on a different drive (if you have one), click
custom size and set Initial size to one and a half times the amount of memory you have fitted i.e. 512MB memory
= set to 768MB, set maximum to double your memory amount i.e. 512MB memory = 1024MB click ok.
If your hard drive is full and there is not enough room for the pagefile this can slow down, freeze or even cause the
PC to crash (restart).
e) Cut down on the programs that load at start up -- Start - Run type msconfig - start up tab- untick everything except for firewall, antivirus and antispyware
and the services that run in the background. http://www.blackviper.com/
2. Hardware

Hi. How are you? I am coming here because I'm going to attempt one more time. And then I'm going to call it a lost cause.I have aDell Latitude computer running windows 7. I have Google Chrome as my default browser. It is the easiest to get around in for me, and has tools for all of these popups that are in exitance. I have a question that I doubt has any real good answers, or any answer that is going to help, but I will go ahead and waiste these next few minutes just to see what happens. I LOVE YouTube. But YouTube I think is at the end of its time with me. I now have moved to a place that has a slightly slower speed and It is using Windstream. I now have PROFOUND problems browsing youtube because it is PROFOUNDLY SLOW.

REALLL slow. I have a question. Does anybody know of something in existance that would make it faster? I've checked my computer for bugs. NONE to be found. Cleaned it up. I've got ReadyBoost Activated, and I'm using chrome. Any suggestions or tools that would allow me to browse Youtube, and do all of the functions/features involved in YouTube like the PlayList Abilities such as AutoPlay and Auto-Repeat? ANYTHING? Oh, I Defragmented it too. And deleted other programs that I wanted to delete. Still profoundly slow. Internet Explorer isn't happening. BAAAAAD IDEA. Tried it. We're talking about Taking the definition of Profoundly slow to new and dangerous levels. Thank you very much. Sorry for waisting your time, and God Bless.

Answer:YouTube So slow on Slow Internet connection. ANYTHING left?

close other tabs in web browser. It reduces buffering issue in YouTube.

PC has been quite slow recently on starting up. Harddrive has been a bit louder aswell. I get A LOT of random ping flucuations when im playing games (like counterstrike) which have gone down a bit when i did an AD-AWARE scan.

Already done an ad-aware se scan and a nod32 scan both have found some items and removed them. Any pointers from the log? Im on Vista Ultimate 64bit
