Question: Nvidia gpu throttling at 67 degree celsius and makes games l...

Hello, I'm new here. For the past couple of months my laptop starts to throttle it's gpu at 67C, which is quite low. I have turned off hp coolsense and have selected high performance but no use as it's locked at 67C. The gpu is GT 740M 2gb DDR3. Nvidia control panel also is configured for best performance as well. Please help. Updating nvidia drivers don't help as well. I have updated the pc software from hp updates directly too, so I don't think it's due to bad updates. By the way I'm not sure if this throttling issue was there from beginning as I didn't use a monitoring application until I noticed the massive fps drop in games after a minute or so. Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello there, firstly I apologize for my bad english it is not my native tongue.

Anyway I got a little(!) heating problem. Basicly, when I start oblivion(video game) and play for 10-15 minute my gfx card hits 140 degree(Celsius =S) and slowdowns itself. Problem started just 2 weeks ago, before that I were playing it without a single heating problem. Well I gotta say there is no way in hell a gfx card could hit 140 degree and still work, and no it didn't burn itself neither did it burn cables inside the computer. Problem eventually repeats itself, I'm a tech noob but I could say that either there is a problem in fan or there is a software problem.

So all I'm asking is that if there is a software problem how could I fix it? Or eventually is there a way to understand which kind of problem I got? Because gfx cards warranty went off just couple of months ago and most probably I'll buy a new card instead of paying money to repair it. Or I might consider buying a new fan for the geforce 6800, please share it if you people know a good fan.

P.S: I took a SS, even if there was no 3d application was running it was showing 75 degree o.O

Anyway already now thanks a lot for all helps =)

Answer:My gfx card hit 140 degree (Celsius that is...)

That picture shows your card at 70+ degrees, not 140. The threshold means that the temperature that shows there is where the card will basically blow up on you. Although 70C is pretty hot for any graphics card, my 8800 gtx doesnt even get that hot.

I'm running an A10 7870K on a Gigabyte Motherboard with 8GB of 2133Mhz RAM. I'm also using Windows 10. However, when stressing my APU to test it it throttles at 50 degrees Celsius which seems awfully low to me. ANY help is sorely appreciated. This is troubling me since this is my first time building a computer.

Answer:APU throttling at 50 degrees Celsius

What program are you using to measure the temperature?  50C does seem low but it's possible that the temperature is not being read correctly.

I look at multiple solution one is to under volt the laptop on is the remove something in the vent.Is there any legit solution ?I mean i used to have an y400 with 2x gt750 m and it i had it for about 3 year and i never had an throttling issue. That laptop was getting A LOT hotter then my y700 but i could run hero of the storm without spiking when it hit 65-67 degree.I try undervolting but it didn't help that much , i tried installing a previous version of nvidia driver,i'm on a fresh install of windows 10.I tried tones of stuff nothing seams to help i wish they would come out with a bios version that let you change the temperature throttling settings.Anyone got any solution without voiding the warranty i tried contacting lenovo and i asked for a  call back but they never called back.

Greetings,I would like to know why do nVidia GPU's downclock when they hit 75 degrees celsius?I have a GT740M and I get around 80FPS in Left4Dead 2, but after a while when my GPU reaches 75 degrees celsius, the GPU usage throttles back to somewhere between 10% and 25% and FPS falls to 20. I wonder if this feature can be turned off, but what I'm really interested in is why does this feature exist at all? It is really frustrating having to deal with my GPU running below what it's supposed to, specially since it's not a very powerful GPU to begin with.Thank you in advance

Answer:Why do nVidia GPU's downclock when they hit 75 celsius?

its there to protect it from over heating, burning up, and dying a slow and painful death. consider a laptop cooler pad. my gt 755m gets not much higher then 80 though when rendering for a bit. so im confused a bit by that.

I've heard about this decreasing performance..... Does this have something to do with the I7 Turbo Boost program that came with the laptop? I just put that in the recycling bin. How would I know if my CPU is overclocking itself to 3.0 Ghz(Stock is 2.4 Ghz)? And then throttling because of heat?

Answer:How do I know if throttling is occurring during games?

hi Poor_PCGAMER,
Regarding your questions:
1. If you're referring to the IntelŽ Turbo Boost Technology Monitor, this is a monitoring app created by Intel to see if the CPU is using the turbo boost feature. This app doesn't trigger turbo boost.
2. To know if your CPU is overlocking (via Turbo Boost), try to:
a. Download & install HeavyLoad (free stress test utility to test the GPU & CPU)
b. Download & install Coretemp (32 Bit 64 Bit) (CPU Monitoring Tool)
c. Set the power settings to high performance
d. Open Heavy Load and configure it to stress test the CPU
e. Run CoreTemp and monitor your CPU frequency
If the frequency goes above 2400Mhz then Intel Turbo Boost is working. If the max temperature hits 90°C and the frequency drops below 2400Mhz, then your CPU is overheating and is throttling down to protect the CPU.
Sample image
If your CPU is throttling down due to heat, you may need to clean the heatsink, CPU fan, vents, and re-apply a good quality thermal paste (i.e. Noctua NT-H1, Tuniq TX-4, or Artic Silver 5).

I've been playing games on my new i5 6400 for around a year, after my PC had some issues, and I had to get a new processor. For that year, whenever I played any games, such as Overwatch, Rainbow 6 Siege or Paladins, my CPU would run at around 50-75% of the capacity. This kept my PC pretty cool, and the games ran fine on Medium to High for ages. Recently though, pretty much every game I play has been throttling my CPU and sometimes my GPU at 80-100%, most of the time being at 100%. I am scared of playing anything anymore because I don't want to ruin the PC or any of the parts because I am a student (Games Art) so I don't exactly have much money to use.

I've tried scanning my PC for any problems (malwarebytes), I've tried lowering the graphics settings of the Games I play, I've tried monitoring the Temperature of the CPU to see if It starts to Bottleneck, which it hasn't been doing.

If there's anything I can do to fix it, It would be greatly Appreciated.

My specs for my PC are

I purchesed my refubished G505s back in 2014. I orignally got it for playing minecraft with my friends, but we have moved on the League of Legends since then. I started playing League in mid 2015 and I had no problems running it. Until a couple months ago when my FPS would ramdomly drop to around the 20 FPS range from about 50-60 FPS. Last night it happened again while I was playing a game and I thought it might have something to do with my processor because I have an intergated card. I opened task manager and sure enough my CPU speed had dropped from the normal 2GHz to 850MHz. I called it throttling for lack of a better term, I do not know what is causing my processor to do this, or how to fix it. Somebody please help.  The Specs for the model I own are as fallows:AMD A10-5750M APU with Radeon HD graphics6 gigs of DDR3 800Mhz I terabyte 5400rm hard driveWin10

So here's the story:

Few days ago I had a problem with Bullguard internet security where by the behavioural scanner was't working. Their support channel asked me to do a couple things including a run of Combofix in safe mode which I did last night and sent them the results.

However The program has deleted a number of files and more importantly (and probably related to the deletions) has made Nvidia optimus stop working.

My laptop is a Acer Aspire 5750G (i5-2410M, Intel HD3000 and Nvidia GT 540M with optimus to switch between the two GPUs).

Basically Bulguard support are being rubbish and I suspect they have no idea what they are talking about.

The deleted files seem to be in quarantine on my hard drive.

How do I go about undoing everything combofix has done as the files that it deleted are not malware and I obviously need them back. I also tried to run the restore program from here:
I got the error 0x00007558!! Aborting
so that doesn't work

Also combofix seems to have deleted my system restore points so I can't use that.

Any help would be much appreciated. I have attached the two log files which I thought may be of help.

I somehow need to undo everything combofix did.

Answer:Combo Fix Woes (Also makes Nvidia Optimus Fail)

I cannot honestly see that it's killed anything relating to Nvidia, but let's restore the lot and take it from there. I do not know why BullGuard TechSupport are advising you to run Combofix in this situation. Tsk, tsk.

Now we need to use ComboFix by sUBs

Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.

Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:

ok, follow these easy steps to make aero work on your fx5200-based system

the wddm1.0 driver that DOES work with this card is the last forceware release that included the FX series, wich is the 96.85 release.

you can do a google search for it or download it from here:
FX 5200 Vista Driver - Software Driver Download

after installing this driver you will not see any new effects, so just go to the
"theme" settings and change the theme to any theme with 'aero' effects (I chose 'Architecture', you can choose another one), and VOILA!!, aero comes to win7 with your FX5200 card.

Hi,I have serious problem with my HP 8760W Elitebook.I have upgraded to Win10 and everything was OK, I was more satisfied as with Win7Pro. But first time after month and second time after 3 months win10 crashed to repair screen and nothing was possible to do only clear installation of win 7 with disk format.I use all new drivers and bios - F.62. So I decided to stay with Win7, but now I have problem with graphics (nvidia Quadro 4000M). When I install nvidia driver (I have tried several versions including 341.95) it needs restart and then I get black screen during start and sometimes blue screen and it restarts  again. Only thing that will help is to use F8, start windows in safe mode and remove nvidia driver. Then it  again automatically load standard vga graphics driver. It uses only 16MB of memory, allows to run in 1920x1080 mode, but nothing more. Windows experience index is 1 due to graphics. What can I do to start running my nvidia quadro 4000m? Thank you very much.

NVIDIA decided to give notebook users an early Christmas present today. It's a present notebook owners have kept on their wish lists since NVIDIA first started making graphics processing units (GPUs) for notebooks ... downloadable drivers on the NVIDIA website.

For years now the only way laptop owners could find notebook graphics drivers for NVIDIA GPUs was if the notebook manufacturer was kind enough to make the drivers available or to download unofficial "hacked" drivers from various websites (drivers that were often hacked together based on desktop GPU drivers). Consumers need these drivers in order to be able to take full advantage of the latest visual computing applications and games as well as to be able to restore GPU functions after a fresh install of Windows.

Hi, I was wondering whether there is a program which forces a game to run in a window. I have my screen set to 1,024x768 on 16bit colour and I would like to set the window on something like 800x600 or even 640x480, like I used to do with games such as Unreal Tournament and Quake 3. Reason for this is because I usually have stuff downloading while I play a game or have MSN Messenger on and if I could play games in a window, I can also keep an eye on the other things running. So any ideas then? Is it possible to edit some file in the game's directory to make it run in a window? Regards.

Answer:Program which makes games run in window?

If you right-click the icon that launches the game and choose Properties, you will see an option to run it in a Window. However, this option is often by-passed by code within the game.I do not know of any utility that will force the game to run in a window. The best solution I can offer is to pause and Alt-Tab back to your desktop.

I just got a new laptop with integrated graphics and a Nvidia 940mx and when I open and download games and stuff, they work fine, but occasionally, for no reason that I can discern, my laptop changes something and games like tf2 and emulators like dolphin and ppsspp freeze and stop working, other games in my library still work, but only a select handful of games and apps will stop working

I have gotten this temporarily fixed by resetting windows 10 but then like a week later it'll come back and I have to reset windows again

does anybody know whats going on and if there's any better way to fix this

Very interesting. Not being a developer myself I wonder if they would like this newer format or prefer the monthly tiers. Trying to remember if was a flat fee per month or it was a flat fee + royalties.

But it's great to know that the Unreal Engine will be more widely available to would-be developers.

Edit: Read the old article. Dropping the monthly fee for straight up royalties (same %) I think is a good move. Not that $20 a month was a drop in the bucket to begin with but at least now those that are interested have an easy stepping stone to get started without an investment.

Hello tech guys,

First off if this post is in the wrong section I apologize; I wasn't sure to place this in here or in a generic Windows 7 subsection. I'm open to suggestions and redirects where needed.
I'm facing a weird problem that I can't seem to solve. I can play all games without problems on my computer except when Adobe Flash is active. By active, I mean either a Youtube video is running in the background or a stream playing content.
Once Flash is active, it bogs down my fps from 60 fps silky smooth to 15-30 fps and choppy/rubberbanding feel in games. To be quite specific: if I happen to have a stream open that went offline the problem disappears; the MOMENT the streamer decides to come back on and resume streaming it bogs my computer back down and it feels like roughly Pentium IV level.
I could of course just not have any Flash content running while playing games, but that would be a) like throwing in the towel and b) a slap in the face of me and my $2000 system. Clearly something is up, but I can't pinpoint it. Is there a known problem with ATI's CCC / Flash / Firefox for the last 1-2 months? I'm aware Firefox (or Flash?) handles the sandbox thing different and has a seperate process now, but this problem has been around before they changed this.

Hello, just recently joined the forums, yay!

I'll tell you about my problem, if anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

My computer is from 2010 Custom made. It's been working like it should been for the last years while upgrading different parts for more demanding games. Everything except the motherboard and the CPU is upgraded.

I don't know exactly but 3 months + ago my computer suddenly started to freeze and sometimes make a buzzing sound. Mark my words, this only happens when I play computer games. I noticed the freezing when I were playing Rome Total War 2, after 15 - 30min the computer freezes and I need to force shutdown/restart. Then I stopped playing it for months and then I wanted to play the game again, and yet again it happend.

Today I bought and installed Civilization Beyond Earth and after 8-12min of gameplay the computer freezes. Don't know why this happen, but I thought my computer only freezed because Rome Total War 2 is such a big game and is demanding performance and my computer can't handle it. But when civilization is on 2-4GB well.. I don't know.

I have been following this case from 2012: PC Freezes and makes Buzzing Noise when Running Programs but no luck.

I think I have the exactly same problem, also tried to follow the steps but I must admit. It's a little to advanced for me. I also saw that this was suggested: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

Answer:PC Freezes and makes Buzzing Noise when Running Games

well first thing which would be the simple way to go is to completely uninstall those 2 games using revo uninstaller which will not only uninstall the games; but also uninstall the windows registry entries windows puts in when something is installed. What that hopefully will do is sort of create a fresh clean slate on which to reinstall those games. here is the link to revo uninstaller:

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

download, install, and run it and select the 2 games; let it uninstall them; then reboot; then try reinstalling the games again. IF that does not do anything; the next thing i would do is take a look at how much ram your system has. Your system ideally should have at the very least 8gb ram to run games but i would reccomend 12gb as the more ram there is the better the system performance will be. if no results still; post back and we can go from there.

Well HD usually refers to the resolutions 720p and 1080p,if your monitor supports these resolutions then you can play in those resolutions.

Se seems to play fine on high settings so you have wiggle room to turn the settings down.

Your not gonna get much more than about 30 fps with these games on medium to high settings,if your happy with 30fps then you can play them.

The problem started when I started getting 2 BSOD's several times, and they were Driver Power State Failure and DPC Watchdog Violation. This stopped happening when I completely uninstalled all nvidia products from control panel then installing the driver from nvidia geforce experience. Then when I tried to launch a game I keep getting errors such as "failed to initialise direct 3d" and "no compatible graphics hardware found" depending on the game. And on occasion I'd get a "display driver has stopped responding and has recovered. So I try disabling the intel GPU to run the nvidia only and it didn't solve anything, all games run at like 5 fps. So it seems like the problem is that the nvidia GPU just won't work no matter how many times I reinstall with different older versions ,even the one from the lenovo website. From the dxdiag the direct3d acceleration is not available although I'm not sure if that's relevant.

i was wondering about the Nvidia optimus technology where the computer has intel graphics and nvidia graphics,

For example, if i am running 2 games, setting 1 on intel and the other on nvidia, does it help with performance? or it doesent work this way? ive already tested but it doesent seem to be working, could be some settings im missing out, any thoughts? thanks in advance

** when i said "doesent seem to be working" i meant , it still feels laggy when both are running

Answer:using intel and nvidia for 2 games

Not entirely sure of what you're talking about here.

Do you mean playing 2 games at once? Running 1 game off an nVidia graphics card and one card of your mothersboard (Intel) graphics?

This is a silly idea. What's the point playing 2 games at once?

I'm having problems running newer games on this pc. It will run everything else, including burn-ins, benchmarks, etc.... without problems. When I run unreal tournament 2003 or battlefield 1942 or even Impossible Creatures, the system just shuts down after less than 2 minutes. I can run return to castle wolfenstien without incident. I've got nothing overclocked, and my power supply was replaced 3 months ago. I have noticed that I cannot change the agp bus settings when using the MSI driver from agp 1x to 4x. My mobo and card both support 4x. Also, I have uninstalled the msi driver and installed the nvidia reference driver multiple times, however the msi settings remain in my advanced properties tab.

Few days ago when i updated my gpu driver to 359.00 i got some error after update, but i didnt pay any attention to it. Then i tried to play AC: Syndicate and game crashed. I restarted game and it crashed again.

I tried to play Evil within and that crashed too.

Sometimes i get BSOD when game crashes, sometimes first game crashes and then few minutes later i get BSOD even if i dont do anything.

I rerolled drivers back to 358.59 and tried again. Same stuff games crashes and i get bsod. Before updates i didnt have any issues. I played syndicate & Evil within without any crashes. First bsod and crash was right after i updated drivers to 359.00

Later i updated back to 359.00 and today i updated to 359.06. Tried Syndicate and got bsod. Then i tried to play Nazi army trilogy.. same stuff crash and bsod.

So now i cannot play any games it seems.

i encounter very low frame rate when i play games using Nvidia physX like mirror's edge (the game runs on 7 frames per second only)
When i turn off the physX from game options frame rate is about 45
The problem is that some other games like metro 2033 doesn't allow you to turn off PhysX making the game unplayable
Is there any way to overcome this problem
*system specs below*

Answer:Games using Nvidia physX are very laggy

Your Nvidia GT 610m really isn't designed to handle PhysX. It is to be expected that your games run slowly with it turned on.

Hello all!

I have recently installed a new video card in my laptop, an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800. I HAD an ATI Radeon X300 Mobility (which worked fine) and I wanted a little more power.

I removed all previous drivers correctly, using uninstall, then drivercleaner, etc.

What happens is this: When I am in Windows doing normal things (web surfing, email, etc.) the screen will freeze for a few seconds, then go black. After another few seconds, it will come back and everything will be fine. There are no events written during this time. Every great once in awhile, the system will BSOD caused by nv4_disp.dll (the nvidia display driver) and reboot. I cannot see the substance of this BSOD because the machine reboots almost as soon as the screen comes up. I've even tried disabling the automatic reboot on BSODs but it doesn't work. However, I am attaching a zip file containing the minidumps from this problem. I imagine they are all mostly the same.

I've tried many different drivers and many versions of each driver. I do not believe it is a hardware problem, as the problem does not persist in Safe Mode. The temperature of the video card is mostly 45 - 52 C, as is the motherboard chipset.

Now for the kicker: this problem goes away when playing a DirectX game like Battlefield 2 or Command and Conquer. As long as I play the game, the system will run fast and smooth with high quality settings!

Here are the latest errors from my event viewer (system):... Read more

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Hard Drive: 500 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT

Sound Card: Realtek HD Audio output
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227
500w max Power Supply

ok so i just got it finished and everything works fine but when i try to play example Half life 2 it plays for about 1 minute then the screen locks up and the texture quality drops and little squares of every color like pop up everywhere, the pattern and colors are different everytime i try it as is the time it takes to do it. then i have to restart the computer through the tower.

All my drivers are up to date and when it does it my temperature gauge on the front of my tower doesnt increase or anything strange i honestly dont know what it is. im just assuming its the graphics card because of the way the screens colors appear when it freezes.

My graphics card is GeForce 6600 GT nVIDIA 128MB DDR3

If you can think of anything worth trying please tell me! I really have no idea what to do. If you need any more information just ask.

Thanks so much

Hi guys,

I am having problems with computer freezing when playing games. I am guessing it's the graphics card Nvidia GeForce GT 220. Specs are:

Motherboard: Gigabyte EP43T-UD3L
CPU: Intel Dual Core E6500
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GT 220
System: Windows 7, 64 bit

So the freezing happened 3 times so far after playing game for like 30 mins. It's not the blue screen but just when it freezes the speakers just like play that zzzzzzz sound and the monitor turns off. I guess because it does not receive any signal from the graphics card. Also at that point I can just turn it off by holding the power button. Then immediately if I turn it on it powers on until that motherboard screen and then just restarts and so on and on, so I have to turn it off and wait a couple of minutes and then turn it on. Then it's all normal.
Anyone can help?

Answer:Computer freeze in games Nvidia GeForce GT 220

That sounds like overheating.

Can you check to see if the fan is working on the 220 card?

Also try running the system with the side(s) of the case removed to see if that improves things.

That would also be a good time to look and see how much dust has accumulated inside.

Dear Techguy fellows,

I'm having a bothersome problem whenever playing games lately.

I started having this problem almost 1 year ago, but it was something which would occur on a rare occasion and without the issues that I'm going to explain to you now:

During some really heavy games, after some hours, the screen would become distorted, like rippled in a strange way though not entirely. It was a bother but it wasn't that much of a hassle, except for the fact that I couldn't properly see what was going on.

The first game with which the issue showed was Assassin's Creed II. I tried to save pics of this strange phenomenon but to no avail, because curiously the screenshots are perfect, without no distortion at all.

After so many months I installed Borderlands and Guild Wars, and the problem re-presented itself, far more aggresive than before: not only the screen would flicker and become distorted, it would also become black making the computer freeze on the spot.

After so much time and under suggestion of a friend, I've decided to post here asking for help. Since it's impossible to take screenshots because they look perfect, I've modified 2 images to make them look like the problem which afflicts my poor laptop lately:

I've tried searching for similar issues, but no one would either describe the same problem nor tryi... Read more

I'll try to give as much information as possible.
Due to problems with BSOD's in win7 after I started playing World of Warships, I eventually ended up with my laptop not detecting my Nvidia GPU anymore.

I recently upgraded to win10 and my Nvidia GPU got detected again.
Some quick computer specs:

Alienware x17 R4

The Problem:

After I upgraded to Win10 I had the problem of getting BSOD's with multiple causes after playing games using my Nvidia GPU for up to 2 hours. I started updating drivers and changing power settings and eventually it stopped for at least a week.

Sadly, it started again. The BSOD's had multiple causes and names just like in this minidump file linked.

I tried everything, a couple of examples:

- Updating all drivers (Chipsets, wireless, ethernet, GPU)
- Flashing BIOS to the last version possible available on the dell website
- Playing while plugged in and on battery to check a difference there
- Changing stuff in the Nvidia control panel
- Changing stuff in advanced power options
- Updating to all sorts of Nvidia driver version, using clean installs, only Driver + Physx, and using DDU in safe mode
- Probably multiple other things...

The latest thing I did was going back to the specific Intel and Nvidia drivers Dell provide on their website. Also went back to the Sound driver Dell provided (and got th... Read more

My graphic card could run every game until a month ago without any problems. But a moth ago it started to overheat on games like AC III and the picture was very laggy and the fan was making very loud noises, I`m not really a expert on computers so I`m here for a opinion on what should I do. Here is to understand the problem some pictures of my temperatures:

The second one is on my normal settings when I wasn`t doing anything.

Hi, i have had many problems with games on Windows 8 and posted many threads about it. I have researched that NVidia cards and Windows 8 don't mix very well. My games allways lag and crash and this is on newer games as well. Could my NVidia card be the issue? If i tried another card E.g. ATI would it fix my problem.

Answer:Is my NVidia Card Making my games crash?

Hard to say.

NVidia's drivers have made lots of crashes in the past, including under Windows 7. Some of us think that their drivers are better than AMDs, even so.

Have you installed the latest drivers for your card?

There are also new beta drivers for the card, if you wish to experiment:

I recently saw an article from Jez illustrating how to use the Nvidia Control Panel to force games like Halo Wars: Definitive Edition to use the Nvidia GPU rather than the integrated graphics. Using the "add" function, I could not find Halo Wars or any of my other UWP games in order to make those changes.
I asked about this in the comments section and Jez responded by telling me to use a file path search rather than searching for the title. I must admit, after trying to do exactly that, I don't think I was doing it correctly.
I'm a console gamer and I'm just now getting into PC gaming thanks to UWP and Xbox Play Anywhere. So I have no idea how to do any of these tasks that may be trivial to people who have gamed on PC before. The upcoming Game Mode update will likely solve this problem but until then I would like to ensure that my games are using the proper resources.
So i guess my question is: Can someone please give me a step-by-step on how to find the UWP games using Nvidia Control Panel?.. Please explain this under the assumption that I know absolutely nothing. Simply saying "search the file path instead of searching the title" didn't seem to help much since the Windows Store games/apps seem to be locked/hidden by default. When using the "add" function and searching under user profile (where the Windows Store games/apps are supposedly saved), all the folders are seemingly empty. Any help would be appreciated.

Its been a week and suddenly my all games are lagging like hell, even at low setting those games which were like 30+ fps are lagging
I have nvidia 740m, ci3 , 4gb.
I formatted my laptop 2 times (win 8.1 and win 10 - kept win 10 ), updated all drivers but still problem same.

Please tell me how to analyse the hardware performance or anything to do.

I used to play NFS Rivals at 28-30 FPS at low (custom 1366x768) settings now its 10-12 fps

Answer:Games lagging suddenly on Nvidia 740M

I don't have a solution, but I can contribute to what might be happening.

Starting with the driver updates from a couple months ago, a driver crash will cause the video card to think it's in power-saving mode, and start underclocking itself by as much as 33% of it's normal clock speed. This of course can seriously impact game performance. To fix it requires either a system reboot, or disabling and re-enabling the driver in the Device Manager. Neither workaround is convenient, so I actually went back a few driver versions until the problem is resolved. I think I'm using the earl-April drivers, but I'm not at my main computer at the moment to check.

So got a bit of a problem, my GTX 670's drivers keep crashing and I cant work out why

Basically it crashes when ever I do anything, open Firefox, crash, open Rift, crash, start Windows, crash.

I did replaced the TIM on my card (MX-4) a couple of weeks ago (not the first time I've removed the cooler on this card) as I was worried about how hot the card was getting and how hot it was getting my CPU WC loop, over 80? on most days, it ran fine for over a week then started playing up out of no where

Cant work out if its the actual card or just all the crap in Windows . I've attached the Windows crash log thing although it hasnt BSOD

Hello, I’ve got a very strange issue with several old games, and I'm trying to find a solution. I'll do my best to describe my issue.

I’m sitting on laptop, Lenovo Y580, packed with i7 quad core cpu and Nvidia Optimus system (intel hd 4000 + nvidia 660m). It’s all working on Windows 7 x64 (SP1 + All updates). All drivers are fresh and Nvidia driver is 332.21.

My problem is that in some old games (direct x 6 and 7 era) 2d elements flicker horribly, i'm talking about interface, menus and so on. 3d is ok. And that’s all only on Nvidia.

I saw this problem in several different games:

Rainbow Six (1998)
No One Lives Forever (2000)
Blood 2 (1998)
Gabriel Knight 3 (1999)

I've got a friend with the same laptop, the only different thing is that he has Windows 8 installed, no flickering. Same driver for nvidia.
I also have another friend with Nvidia Optimus laptop from another vendor and he is on Windows 7, he has flickering.
Aaaand i also found this guy in the interent with the same exact problem:

So, i’m trying to understand what unites games mentioned above? (directx 6-7 i suppose?)
And what has changed in Windows 8, so flickering is gone?

p.s. I was able to launch NOLF and Blood 2 in window mode, flickering was gone, other games don’t have windowed mode.

p.s. i’m Russian, sorry for my English.

Answer:Flickering in old games on Nvidia (very strange problem)

I also need to say that modern games run perfectly on my laptop. And also there are no flickering on Intel graphics, but it has some other issues which are not important

I am having some fps decrease in some of the latest games , like Metal Gear Solid : The Phantom Pain , Assasin's Creed Unity etc .

The games run fine with EVERYTHING ON MAX / ULTRA.However , FRAPS show my FPS in MGS : PHANTOM PAIN under 50 and it goes to 45 at times.

In AC Unity , my fps stays aorung 42 with everything on max ...

I have used Nvidia Inspector before .The last time , i used Nvidia Inspector. It was on my Laptop that had an Nvidia Graphics Dedicated memory and an Optimus Technology (For battery or something).

Nvidia Ispector helped me in playing games that were getting detected by my Intel HD card , instead of my Dedicated Graphics Card on my Laptop.

However , after using Nvidia Inspector , my Nvidia Control Panel DISAPPEARED , literally.
It would appear sometimes and perhaps after opening Nvidia Inspector , it will disappear again.

I want to use Nvidia inspector on my new rig that has a 16 GB RAM , Nvidia GTX 960 2GB Graphics Card , GIGABYTE Motherboard & an i7 Processor.

But i fear if my Nvidia Control Panel will disappear again (like on my Laptop) or not...

I have an Nvidia (eVGA) 7600gt graphics card running the latest Forceware drivers. I play an online shooter called WarRock (much like CounterStrike).

For some reason when I am in game, the game will just suddenly freeze for a period of about 20 seconds to 1 minute and then go back to working just fine. This will happen several times during the game. When the game freezes, I can still hear sound.

It does not freeze when in just regular Windows OS.

Why would it be doing this? I have not had a chance to test it in other games, but my friends say that they have never experienced a freeze up like that in WarRock. Any solutions?

I have had this card for about 8-9 months and have never had it happen. It has only now started happening.

Also, one other question about the fan on a GPU. Is it supposed to suck air inward (toward the card) or blow outward (away from card)?

Answer:Nvidia (eVGA) 7600gt freezing quite often in games

Firstly, what are your pc specs? To your question about fans, some are designed to blow air out the back of your case, but most fans blow air off of your card by either blowing cooler air towards your card or blowing hot air off the heatsink.

I have realised that all games or applications when using the nvida card render a black screen and fail to load anything but sound. This includes various games using steam and their pop loaders, aswell as standalone application like the unreal4 game engine.
I have updated all drivers to the latest on dells site, I have tred the latest direct from nvidia, all fails the same way.
I have ran the online dignostics spaceship test on video cards, and while it said the nvidia card passed, many of the tests were simply black screens! and never rendered any visual, in particular the first 2 tests shader rendertest for directx 11 and 10 were black screens only.
Is this a hardware fault?

Recently I've noticed something odd happening with all of my games, but before I get into that let me get into my system specs: P4 2.4ghz, 512 megs of ram, 80 gig hd, and a Geforce 4 Ti 4600. Basically, I first noticed this in Final Fantasy XI, when the game will run smoothly but every 15-30 minutes, the game would hang for a few seconds. I've since defragged (and actually reformatted) my harddrive and this problem persists. I'm running the latest Nvidia drivers. I've also seen the problem in Max Payne 2, and Battlefield 1942 so I don't believe it to be game oriented. Now, after much frustration I found that running Battlefield in 800x640 eliminates this problem, whereas 1024x768 and moreso 1240x1024 leaves the game temporarily stuttering once or twice every minute. I can run the game at 1600x1200 with 4X AA and get framerates above 30 so I know that my system and graphics card can handle this. Usually, such problems are RAM related but I think 512 should be plenty. Also, my brother has an identical system save for a 4400 instead of a 4600 and runs the same games without this problem. Any insight or help is greatly appreciated

Answer:Games stutter/hang on my Nvidia System?

I've come across similar problems a couple of times .. Firstly check by running the game after killing all other processes on ur system ... U can probably use the process viewer from this page

Since the task manager in XP doesn't always show all the processes.

Also check to see the timing setting of ur graphic card
U could also check up the memory of ur display card

Read more

Very recently I started to here some weird noise coming from my computer, and then my 2.80ghz processor dropped to 2.66 and again to 2.13.

I knew something was wrong when I saw my temperature at boot was 70 celsius, and it was rising to 80 in about 20 seconds! And rising to 100 in 2 minutes

And I have no idea why it decided to become so hot because my fan is running at 1800 rpm so can someone please help!

Hi guys I bought a new pc a few days ago...
Cpu E8500 2*3,16Ghz
Asus Rampage Formula Socket775
Corsair DDR2 Ram 4GB
Asus EnGtx 280 OC

after installing vista some strange things happens. Bios told me that the cpu gots 100 C
directly after booting or at any other time. Also got some trouble with installing files or get connection to the web.
I already put some new cooling paste on the cpu. It also wasn´t that easy to put the cooler on the cpu because there is a relly stupid system. I got the feeling that the board could braektrough if I try it harder.
Every time I start the pc it make some noise and an error message shows up and told me that an unknown cpu is there and that the cpu is to hot.

I heard some thoeries that it is necessary to update bios but i am not sure about and now I really hope that some1 got usefull advice´s for me

Answer:Problem with a new pc - cpu too hot 100 G. Celsius

Why don't you go out and purchase a 3rd party CPU cooler like this one, with a metal plate and screws other than the plastic push-pin type HSF (CPU Heat Sink, fan) One failed attempt to secure the plastic pins can damage them permanently...

This is an example of a good 775 CPU cooler:

Question: Degrees Celsius

After i installed speedfan, i would like to know how much the ideal temperature should be, someone can tell ?

Answer:Degrees Celsius

Depends on CPU type as some of the newer ones do have higher tollerances to heat, but a quick rule of thumb, "Keep it under 50c at full load" and if around 40c at idle then that would be near as dammit normal for arguments sake.

Note: CPUs like to be cool so real ideal woudl be as cool as possible.... but not always possible as things liek room temp, how tidy the inside of your case, how many HDs and other hardware components and how good is your airflow all add up to how cool or not is your PC

I just bought and installed a complete computer ( Asus P5Q with a Intel Core2Quad Q9550 2.83ghz).

I just booted up the computer and the CPU temperature in the BIOS is 99 celsius.

I didn't add any temperature paste on the CPU since there already was some paste on the heatsink but I had some problem to insert correcly the heatsink on the board.

Do you have any ideas of what could be the problem?
Do you think I should add more temperature paste on the CPU?

I will remove and put the heatsink back tomorrow as soon as I can.

Answer:CPU Temp at 99 celsius

It may be a defective motherboard... 99C would melt through the board. It wouldn't hurt to clean off all the thermal paste and apply a clean thin layer of fresh paste

For a long time now my PC has been suffering from a graphical problem which recently has begun happening more frequently. Normally I can fix this issue temporarily by tabbing out to desktop then reentering the application but this only works for about 10 minutes, and then I get more graphical glitches. Eventually my PC will crash after about 3 hours or perhaps even earlier.

I have attached a screenshot of counterstrike source to give you an example of my issue

ImageShack - Hosting :: cssez7.jpg

I also get graphical glitches in FSX and to a lesser extent WoW.

I have updated my graphical drivers to the latest version.

It is also worth adding sometimes, but rarely, my PC crashes when browsing the net, when I scroll down a webpage using the mousescroll, perhaps once a week this happens.

This looks like artifacting and it happens when your video card is dying. I had the same exact thing happen to me and it began first when I gamed but as time passed it began occuring when I would internet surf and eventually when I was doing Office applications or writing a paper in MS Word.

Is your video card's fan working? I could be due to overheating and the card might be able to be saved if you replace the fan.

My Nvidia 555m is no longer running games. When I was opening a game, it usually started using Nvidia GPU and it was shown in Nvidia GPU Activity. Now, even if I run the game using the right click option > Run with Graphics Processor > Nvidia, it still doesn't use the Nvidia GPU. My drivers are latest, I also tried to reinstall drivers using Driver Sweeper.  What is wrong? This started happening today. The GPU is detected in tools like GPU-Z and so on.... Games just won't run using it. Notes: I switched my graphics using the button. I have latest drivers.Issue started tommrow after I installed a beta driver and then installed an older WHQL driver.I got 2 BSODs so far... Pretty random. The .dll seems to be an nvidia dll.

Problem is very complex, but i'll try to write short.
Dell Inspirion 15 7559Windows 10 64biti5Geforce 960M

Short time after buing laptop everything seemed fine, but then problem arose:
0. With default drivers (shipped with system) problem doesn't occur, but game performance is awful. Witcher 3 runs with 2-5 fps. Other more demanding games also are unplayable. It looks like laptop is not using Geforce at all.
1. Right after installing Nvidia drivers all games run smoothly, including Witcher 3, but big problem arises: heavy screen flickering (only in games).
2. At first problem was easily avoided by moving screen (cover) a bit up or down. Now i have to almost completely close cover to stop flickering. But it's obviously unplayable and unusable. I clearly can see that game run smoothly when cover is almost closed, no fllickering at all.
3. Problem won't show up in some games that either use OpenGL or (probably) are less demanding for GPU (like Minecraft).
What have been done so far:
1. Different  Intel GPU drivers2. Different Nvidia GPU drivers3. Different updates via Dell Update4. BIOS Update5. Factory reset (with disk formatting)
It's all the same - without nvidia drivers there is no flickering, but performance is awful. After (any) Nvidia drivers - performance is perfect, but there is heavy screen flickering.

Answer:Screen flickering in games, after updating nvidia drivers

Thank you for your message.Have you tried connecting an external monitor to check if the issue occurs?Manually set the game to start with NVidia card in NVidia control panel. This could also be caused by the LVDS cable frayed or not routed correctly. Please click on my Dell username & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

I have disabled all Intel's "enchancements" and updated NVIDIA drivers to latest. the flickering now doesn't happen if I disable NVIDIA, but it's not a perfect solution as i bought this laptop to play games better than my old laptop (it had Intel HD too, but alone). GW2 doesn't fire up after clicking the Play button in the launcher but there is not warning message. TF2 will give a Direct3D error when I try to launch it. In any case, the only solution I have found is to download and reinstall the NVIDIA drivers. I currently have driver verion 368.22 but this has been happening on older NVIDIA drivers as well. After reinstalling the NVIDIA drivers, everything works fine for a few days.

I just removed my ATI Radeon 6800SE 256mb to install a ASUS v9570 Nvidia GeForce FX5700 256MB.

All my games such as Supreme Commander ran fine on the slower, lower end 6800SE but even though the installation of the drivers and visible function of the new card went fine games now tell me to check my system meets the requirements.

I have run online tests which say i have failed the ability to run Supreme Commander, however i have passed all the individual tests. I have also tested everything using DxDiag and all test run perfectly.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I haven't had this problem in a while, but I thought it was extremely strange when I saw the temp for the first time.Anyway, my old computer (which my brother is using right now) was an AMD K6-2 running at 350 Mhz. It was not overclocked(not by me, anyway). Generally, it ran at around 30 to 40 degrees CPU core temp. However, sometimes(about 10% of the time) I played a certain game (not demanding of it's spec, Duke Nukem 3d), and ALWAYS on a particular level, regardless of length of play, the Computer would emit(from the pc speaker) it's temperature siren (the first time, as one would expect, it scared the crap out of me) would blare. The first time it happened I quit and start MBM to view temps, and the CPU core was at over 80 degrees celsius. Case temp was 60 (ambient temp was I believe around 18). Crazy I know....The problem being that although I would like to install a new cooling solution, I'm afraid the power supply wouldn't be able to handle it. The poor thing can deal with the system when I had it fully loaded (all slots where full, memory maxed out, not to mention 3HD drives and a Optical drive.(Drives would dissapear, HD would lose power, loads of fun) (I of course have reverted it to a more stable configuration).I would appreciate any suggestions, I just think it's messed up, on account of even the newest processors idling at lower temperatures.

Answer:AMD K6-2 running at 80 degrees celsius!

you could try a couple of things....... the first thing i would try if cleaning the dust from your heat sink, also check if your fan is working, you could buy a better fan for your heat sink, you could also try leaving your side plate off the tower of your computer ( this will cause your computer to get really dusty really fast) and i forgot to ask earlyer were in your tower it in an open space with lots of air flow??

I have an ATI Radeon 4800 series graphics card in my DELL Dimension e510 computer and was wondering if anyone has any ideas how to get my card to run cooler...

Despite all i have tried my card runs at about 85 to 90 degrees while idle and about 95 to 120 degrees while activity is higher.

Stuff I have tried:
-Kept my case open on the side
-Adjusted fan speed to 100 percent
-Changed thermostat temp. in my house down by 3 degrees
-Changed overclock settings
-Lowered FPS limit in games to 55fps
-Updated CCC

Stuff I am not willing to try:
-Adding fans to my system as I don't think anything else will fit in my small case

I noticed this problem while running starcraft 2 when my card completely shut off to protect itself from overheating. It now overheats anytime i play and runs very hot in other games as well...

Ok when my computer is on and under no load my video card is at 47, the second I turn on WoW, it's increasing to 80-91.. I'm using a ATI Radeon X850 series. I'm thinking it might be fan control but I have no idea how to access this. And i was using ATI Tray Tools.. and when i closed it.. it went back to 60 under load.. which is not great.. but okayish.. so I'm think ATI tray tools had some default fan settings .. and if anyone knows how to check the fan settings please help lol

Answer:Really big problem, temperature at 91 Celsius

That doesn't make sense. The fan controls are in CMOS (press delete at the first screen when you start your computer to access CMOS). That's if there are any fan controls.

You could look and see, but I'm not sure that's a fan issue. It sounds like a misreported temperature. In the past most people used Motherboard Monitor to know the CPU temperature, but it appears it's no longer in development and I've not found another one yet that reports temperatures somewhat accurately. Although, there is Speedfan, but I was told that it was flaky.

Hi folks,
I got a bit of a shock when I just opened Speccy to see how my graphics cards were going, because they (2x) generally run on the "warm" side (one at around 60C and the other around 80C) ... which, even though this PC was built "professionally" and has quite a number of fans ... is quite warm.

But the shock came when I saw that my CPU was running at 94 deg C!! At the moment, the current reading is ... 91, but it's fluctuated as "low" as 84 C a few minutes ago. It's never run THIS hot before, a bit over the max of 68C but this is now serious!

What's the best way to get the temp down in the future? Right now, I'm gonna turn the thing OFF, until there's been time for some replies from you good people.

Answer:CPU temp of 94 Degrees Celsius!

Hi and welcome to sevenforums.
You may need to reseat your cpu cooler with new thermal compound or upgrade to a better one would be my guess. Do you know what kind of cpu cooler you have? i7's need LOTS of cooling at the source. Personally, I'd look into water cooling. Since I swapped my old one for the Corsair H50, I've never had another heat issue.
Hope this helps

I've checked with Aida32 the four computers here at work and they all show the exact same thing: the motherboards are heating up to over 100 celsius! This CAN'T be normal, right?

The computers:

Processor - Intel Celeron II, 566 MHz
Motherboard - QDI BrillianX 9
64 to 128 SDRAM

Pretty old machines...

Here's the exact heat and rate of fan of the computer I'm writing this on:
Motherboard 126 °C (259 °F)
Processor 30 °C (86 °F)
Monitor 59 °C (138 °F)

The fan 3590 RPM (pretty low, imo)

Answer:Motherboards going over 111 celsius, normal?

No that can't be right.
I think you've got those mixed up. To me, 59 is normal for a processor, 30 is normal for the motherboard and 126 isn't normal for anything I had a sensor like that on my old board which would fluctuate between -50C and 140C. Not related to anything so far as I could see.

I went to the NVidia site and it directed me to the Sony site where I picked up the latest driver but it doesn't change anything.

Any potential solutions welcome!

Have you tried reinstalling DirectX 9? You can download it HERE or you can install it online HERE.

I recently purchased an Nvidia geforce fx 5600 128 mb graphics card. I'm running an amd sempron 2 ghz processor with 960 megs of ram. The computer I installed this card on has a geforce 4 mx integrated graphics card. The problem is after installing the card, I fired up a couple different games, first game i fired up was fable. Game started normal worked fine, then like 30 seconds into the game it freezes for 1-2 seconds then the screen becomes all pixelled and distorted like. The game still runs, it doesn't crash and it also plays fine, no freezing etc. It did this with all the games i tried it with, (deus ex, full spectrum warrior, brothers in arm earned in blood, fable, vampire the masquerade, and morrowind.) After the pixelation begans, u exit the game and reenter even after reboot and pixelazation is always there. It doesn't effect movies or anything else just actual game play. I've tried many different things, updating drivers etc. I made sure my geforce 4 mx driver was uninstalled properly first and then installed my geforce fx 5600 properly. Still no luck, I also tried going back, reloading geforce mx drivers then uninstalling them, then disabling the vga device, then installing new card and it still gives me the pixels. Please help, I've been waiting forever to buy a card and i probably won't be able to afford one for awhile =(. Any help is greatly appreciated.
