Preferred Solution: avg found something, can't find any details

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently bought Toshiba Tecra S2 on Ebay, but I can't find any *official* details about this machine. I already found two problems: seller said CPU is 2.0GHz, it is 1.6 in reality; seller said DVD+-RW is built in, in reality it's CD read/write, DVD only read.
I'm getting more and more suspicious about this whole thing.

Here's link to a model/serial number:

Answer:Tecra S2 - can't find any details

it can be problematic to pick up right info when you buy used notebook because you don?t know the history of this notebook. Maybe it was repaired in the past. Maybe some components are not original and also don?t forget that such notebooks were maybe part of special project.

That means Toshiba has maybe designed several thousand such notebook for big companies as Telekom or some insurance. Mostly such notebooks will be later sold at eBay.

When you just check the info on sticker there is written PM 730/512/60G42/15XT/DCW/LM/W that means inside should be Intel Pentium M 730 MHz/521 MB RAM/ 15? XT display/60 GB HDD with 4200 RPM speed?.

So it is not easy to give you exact info because Tecra S2 was delivered with several different hardware platforms.
I?m afraid you got notebook that was BTO. That means ? build to order.

Hi, how can I find out the server details to set up outlook for my Yahoo account?

When I registered with my current IP, I had problems finding out the info I needed, until I emailed a friend of the same IP, and they let me have the details.

As the settings were simply mail.{IP name} I thought that would be a standard.
I now also have a yahoo account for my more public surfing, and want to set OE to Yahoo mail too.

Does anyone know what the send/recieve servers are for Yahoo?

If it is External Is there a Serial Code or Any information on the actual card itself?

You Could Also Try this link and Put in The Following to see if these Drivers Solve the Issue.

Heres the problem, ive got a group of 6 cables that need to be plugged into my motherboard...I was following a 'build your own pc guide'...and then it said refer to the manual. The pc I was building is rather old, for example it has a 12GB hard drive with 64mb of RAM, Windows 98 etc, and as a result I dont have a manual. As far as I can tell the version is MS5182 VER:1, also reffered to as N1996, and uses Ali M1541 A1 something or other (not really sure what ). Most of the parts are made in Taiwan if it helps. The cables I need to connect are: speakers, reset switch, power switch and the H.D.D LED, as well as two unidentified connections. I would greatly appreciate any help because, whilst it wouldnt be a great loss if the PC did'nt work, this is supposed to be a kind of test my dad set me (take apart and fix an old computer) so I can prove ill be able to put together a pc im hoping to buy later in the year but I didnt realise the motherboard manuals had been lost when I took it apart...not a nice suprise. Hope you can help

Greetings,I have discovered the Windows Task Manager and curiously would like to know more about the entries found there. Is there a concise source of information to get details on individual entries there as I have also found out that these are pertinent to computer functions, etc.but have searched Windows Help with no results, I have gone to the internet and searched for example, the image name under processes in Windows Task Manager, . . .hcpcsvcd.exe, and have minimal non discript information.Jp

Answer:Where can I find details about Task Manage ?

Here's one good source of info on processes:  If you don't find what you're looking for there, you'll just have to search for other sources.  hcpcsvcd.exe is not listed there and I believe this is probably an indication that it's very unusual.  And, indeed, a Google search on hcpcsvcd.exe yields very little.  Have you done a full hard drive scan for viruses recently?

Ok Techies, I need some real help on this one....

Older Gateway P3 500mhz last week was working fine...
I don't know the exact details it is my mom's PC and I am giving it a whirl at it... Was working fine then one day she says everytime she boots after bios black screen says"no OS found"

So I pick up thePC and bios won't and can't find a Hard drive.
Maybe bad drive, I remove and replace it with a good one w/ OS already installed.. NO OS found..
I insert Windows Xp disc in CD rom and it loads drivers and then begin to install, next "windows can't continue no HD detected.

Back to bios check Periph.. no primary (none)
secondary shows (cd rom)

I try swapping out

Hard drives..
New ribbon cable...
Switch IDE spots on mobo...
Try to run HD & CD on same line set one for slave.. (didn't work)
Try hooking up HD and remove CD
Bios still shows None for primary and secondary...

Bios recognizes CD roms... but won't detect any HD's...

I try to reset Bios (nvidia) w/ jumper... still same
Removed battery cleaned contacts ... still won't find HD
Ok I'm at wits end .. can't think of anything else to try...

Beg and plead anyone w/ ideas feel free to post...

Truly appreciate any help and suggestions

Answer:Bios/PC can't find HD details inside

Have you tried a different power connector on the hard drive? Also try entering the hard drive parameters manually in the BIOS.

Good luck.

On a side note, it is possible that the CMOS battery is dead. On some older machines if the battery goes the BIOS won't detect the hard drive.

I've tried three times now to upgrade Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro, but each attempt has failed with no error code or other details indicating the problem. It just says something like "Upgrade Failed" or "Install Failed" -- and that's all! No indication whatsoever of what went wrong!

With the cut-off day for free upgrades coming in 5 hours, I need to finish this ASAP. But how can I when I have no idea what went wrong? Is there someplace I can look for the details of the failure?

Please help! Thanks!

Hi Thenin and welcome to Tenforums.

Probably the best thing to do right now, is download what you need, and throw in an empty drive, disconnect all other drives, and clean install W10, then use your W7 key to activate it once you get to the desktop. Also, skip checking for updates at the beginning of the install, because the servers are being hammered now, and you'll just sit there idle, while nothing happens.

If you must review the failure log, it can be found at

You'll need to show hidden system files to find it, and you'll need to copy it to someplace else in order to open it.

7:45 to go. No time to lose.

Well, I don't consider it a MAJOR MAJOR earth-shattering bug as it's a specific one but, even so, it does exist on both the machines I currently have Windows 7 on. I'll say they're both running a certain version of Windows 7 x64 and leave it at that. Now, about that bug...

If you open an Admin Command Prompt, and issue the following command:

chkdsk <driveletter>: /r

it seems as if chkdsk just goes a bit bonkers in terms of memory usage but only on non-system drives - my system drive is C:, and the command works fine on it, but on non-system drives, internal, external, it doesn't matter, formatted with NTFS, it goes a bit insane. How insane? Well, here's what it looked like after just running the command for 30 seconds (then killing the process):

So, it's worth checking out if you happen to be running a certain version of Windows 7 x64, at least. I do believe the issue exists in both x86 and x64 versions, but I can't verify that as I only use x64 versions.

It doesn't affect the system drive, as noted, and it does not affect FAT/FAT32 drives either. But I tested it on my secondary partition as well as a 160GB NTFS-formatted external USB drive and it happens regardless, just not on the system partition C:. It occurs when chkdsk hits Stage 4 - that's when you'll really see the RAM usage skyrocket fast. If the process is allowed to continue, it will consume all the RAM you've got, and finally end with a BSOD ... Read more

Hi everyone

I have just bought a second-hand Satellite laptop for my grandson. The label underneath says: "Model No. SA30-203 PSA30E-00EU5-EN".

I am hoping to find (1) an online user manual and (2) its date of manufacture or shipping.

However, I cannot even find an SA series on the Toshiba website, and forum searches are turning up nothing either.

+Please+ can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm in need of a new video card! I really don't know anything about computer hardware, so you'll have to help me out.

I am a gamer, and my video card sucks (I have a GeForce4 440), and I can't play any new games such as Battlefield 2. Even older games such as Battlefield 1942 and America's Army quit in the middle of gameplay all the time.

I have been making money recently, and can now afford a very good video card. I am willing to spend $200 - $325 for a video card. My computer is good enough for a good card (at least I think it is).

I have an Asus A7V8X-X motherboard with 512 MB ram. My CPU processor is AMD XP 2500 OEM (just as good as the pentium 4.)

I was thinking about getting the famous Geforce 7800. Is this a good idea? Will I need more ram? Will it fit into my case (ATX XP400)? Also, what are all these different types I'm seeing (7800GS, 7800GT, 7800GTX)? What are the differences?

I was getting this error pretty regularly but I could always bypass it and boot up fine. Then I had a power failure one day and when the system rebooted, I got stuck in a never-ending loop of "Press F1 to Continue, Press F2 to enter Setup.

I'm guessing the problem is the CPU temp. I made sure the fans were working, replaced the battery, checked all the connections inside, took out and re-installed the heat sink, and nothing works. I've read that the CPU temp shouldn't be above 50 degrees Celsius, but I'm over that. The computer is a Sony Vaio PCV-RZ14G. When I go to the BIOS Utility, under Hardware Monitor, I get these values:

MB Temp 25c/77f
CPU Temp 56.5c/133.5F

CPU Fan Speed 2083 rpm
Power Fan Speed N/A (could this be the problem?)

VCore Volt 1.4v
+3.3v Volt 3.3v
+5v Volt 5.0V
+12v Volt 11.6v

Any suggestions would be great. I've tried everything I can do, which is very limited, admittedly. Thanks.

How can I re-associate .mp4 files with video details displaying in the Details Pane? After installing the K-lite codecs pack, my mp4's all began displaying in the details pane as audio files (Album, Artist etc) and no longer displays the important video default details (size, frame height, bitrate etc). I assume it was because of incorrectly associating file types when installing the codecs (even though wmv's, avi's are still correct), so I uninstalled the codecs but the Details categories remain for typical audio files. I've exhausted The Google and I'm stumped... any help? (Win7, 32-bit with VLC as my default player) Thanks!

I need a little help with something that seems simple. I am using Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. I have changed the columns in Details view in a folder. However Windows is not populating those columns, so what am I missing? This holds true on both my network drives and my local drives, so I checked my indexing options and they are set to index my local drives, so I assumed that should have at least worked. Any help would be very much appreciated.

For Windows 7, is there a list of the 'Details' available in the Windows Explorer folder view called 'Details' which has an explanation for each of them? Most of them are simple but some leave me scratching my head.

Answer:explanation of 'Details' in Windows Explorer 'Details' view

The "Details" which are available are those you see when a list of files is in "Details" view (as opposed to "Icons" or "Tiles" views. In "Details" view, depending on which column categories you have enabled, you are shown such things as filesize, file-date, filetype etc. If you then right-click any column header, you can choose to hide or show more information columns.I can't see how any of that can leave you scratching your head as it's no different to previous versions of Windows in that respect.

the laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15–5559. The white LED blinks 4 times then the orange blinks twice.
Sometimes it works, but after the first time it started up it barely ever works.
I tried starting it with the battery, without it, with the cord, and without that.
What’s going on, and how can I fix it?

I have Windows xp and I cannot go to any google site. It just keeps saying 404 not found. I originally thought I could live without it and use bing, but I'm finding bing is more time consuming and not great for my kids homeschool lessons. To put it blunt I'm a google fan and it's really bothering me. I have searched up and down for a solution. From what I got was that I could use webmaster tools but I'm not sure how to use it. I've tried to learn it but it's beyond me. I know google tools could maybe help, but I can't get to google anyhow. I've tried explorer, firefox, and chrome. I'm coming to believe it's a virus. I didn't have anitvirus on my computer for a couple months and thought norton was still protecting it but it had lapsed and there was no warning that my subscription was ending. I did realize it ended and got another yr. I kinda hoped it would fix the virus but norton wants more money to scan my computer and "fix it".
I have tried malware, trojan and spybot removals but they are the free versions. I just don't have the $ to have someone else fix it. I'm not sure what you guys do here but it has helped me once before to come here. Thanks for any responses. p.s I just tried to connect to google with my pc in safe mode and it did connect. Here's my computer specs:

Hi,I'm using Windows 7 Professional x64. When I use Windows Explorer to view image files (jpg, png, etc.), I would like to see each image's dimensions listed in the Details Pane (when it's set to view the images as Icons/Thumbnails, rather than Details). However, the only details that show up in the Details Pane are Name, Type, Date Created, Date Modified, and Size. This is the case even though:* I've checked 'Dimensions' in the 'Choose Details' options* The folder is already categorized/optimized for 'Pictures'* Other folders show the other details I want -- i.e., the Details Pane for my 'Videos' folder shows Length, Frame Width, Frame Height, and other details that I've chosenAny suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Need more details in W7 Explorer Details Pane

I think you are asking Windows Explorer to do more than it is intended to do.Try using infranview to view the folder. Get infranview at the link below.

Ok, this is going to be a very strange request, and I'm not even sure you can help me. I'm assuming it can be with all the updated technology nowadays. I am jobhunting, and have been to 100's of sights. I emailed a resume out to somebody, but I don't know what website I found the actual job on. I have the email timestamped, so is there somehow a way to figure out what sights I was looking at at a certain time on a certain day? I figure with teens and everything going to bad sights, there is a way. Let me know. Thanks, Kelly

I searched the old posts but couldn't seem to find what I was looking for, so I hope that someone can help.

Yesterday, itunes installed an update, and when the computer restarted, the task bar was missing and the background image and icons were lower than normal. Then, I got the blue screen, no text, just blue. I restarted 2x with the same results.

I restarted in safe mode, ran a avg scan, and deleted dropper.small.j. When I restarted in normal mode, things were the same, except there was an error message that said that it can't locate rundll32.exe. I restarted in safe mode, searched for rundll32.exe and it is there. I tried to uninstall itunes/ quicktime, but I can't in safe mode. Now when I restart, I don't get that error message, but I still get the blue screen.

I tried to download hijackthis, but I can't connect to the internet in safe mode (using my laptop now).

Not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, and I hope I posted this in the correct forum.

Answer:Having a problem - rundll32exe can't be found, but I can find it

download hijack this on laptop and copy it to desktop

you can try this
Reboot your Computer, while its rebooting repeatedly press F8 and when the Prompt Screen appears try the Option of last known good configuration

you can also do a repair installation, you need your xp cd

A Repair Install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used for the Repair Install. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will need to be reapplied.

A Repair Install will replace files altered by adware and malware, but will not fix an adware, malware problem.

I downloaded and fully updated my AVG Free Anti-Spyware, and scanned, it found an infection called:
I have it quarantined but want to know if I need to do something more specific than just click delete to get rid of it, and also, I haven't found any information on it on the net, I googled it, and it gave me nothing of use that I was willing to look at. it just repeated 'backdoor.bifrose.abpbackdoor.bifrose.abpbackdoor.bifrose.abp" over and over in the description or was in another language. It's aggitating because I know some of the other spyware I cannot just delete without it messing with my system, so I just quarantine it while I figure out how to get rid of it safely.
Any help is more than welcome. Thanks

Symantec has a decent write up on bifrose

I don't know if the write up is for your exact variant, but it should give you some guidance.

I purposefully have UAC set so that I sometimes get the "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to your PC?" popup. Is there any way to tell what requested change is prompting this popup? My response would depend on what's being changed.

I know I can get rid of the popup altogether, but that is absolutely not what I want to do. I want to know when a new program is trying to change things. If it is trying to change the directory, for example, I want to know what it wants to change. If it wants to save its own settings in the directory that's ok. If it wants to change other settings, that may not be ok.

Was having some issues (and questions) yesterday with Spybot S&D, RE: Resident/Tea Timer, and had them answered over in Software. Thought I had things resolved, but now the program will not update.

In the process of an overall site-search here yesterday, I came across a thread in which Chaslang had advised to delete (I "think") "C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Plugins\TCPIPaddress.dll" ... again, I "think" that is what it was, as that is what is coming-up now within the new error I'm receiving upon trying to install the program again (over-top of the old program). Now I cannot seem to find that thread that I found yesterday.

I don't know how to proceed here. Should I uninstall the program first (?), or should I attempt to delete the folder/file mentioned above first? Or, should I do something else altogether entirely different? All very confusing - to me.

Answer:Cannot find instructions found in a search from yesterday

Are you saying you can't update Spybot S&D? If this is your only issue, I would recommend uninstalling, rebooting and then downloading the most recent version below. Be sure you install it without the TeaTimer feature.

Post results if you do this, and I or someone else will pick it up from there. Thanks for using this Forum for your issues..

Hi Guys,
I know this is a topic that has received quite alot of attention but so far i have tried loads of so called fixes and my problem seems to be unique.
I got the blue screen of death last night with the error message 'KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR.
I also got this tech info *** STOP: 0x0000007A (0xFFFFF6FB7DA00018, 0XFFFFFFFFC0000056, I can elaborate on this later if required.
Had blue screen a few times so didnt think anything of it, then today mid way through watching a download on vlc, my PC restarted and gave me 'operating system not found. I restarted and it said the same thing.
My CD rom tray is broken and so to get into it i (or my gf lol) have to take my laptop apart and place the disk in then rebuild, anyway i put my recovery disk in and it wont find my HDD therefore cannot even do a fresh install coz windows has no where to put it.
Tried Dos'ing it, my laptop in dos is giving OMB, which is either a strange name for a hard drive or i have 0 MB :/ cant do anything with it, samsung recovery solution wont start(F4), tried resetting all dos settings, advanced settings(F8) etc but no joy.
Is there anyway to fix this or do i need to look into a new hard drive? Any help will be much appreciated!!!

Can anyone help?

My computer was accessed via remote access scammer 2 nights ago and although my computer has been checked any appears to be safe - (microsoft checked) - my partner has a computer on the same home network and her computer now has (2) 'install.exe' files that have appeared on her external hard drive within folders with names such as 080eb699a612b22018 and f9e359c6c3f913d19353. An additional folder appeared last night They seem to have appeared at about the same time that my computer was remote accessed via the escammer. The files won't allow to be deleted as message saying they can only be deleted with admin access although my partner is the only user and has admin access. Have run Malwarebytes, spybot but files remain. Computer now has Microsoft essential with firewall.

Two questions.

1. How do we know what the install.exe is and if it is malcious hacking or simply system file?
2. How do we remove it if it is malicious?

Answer:install.exe found on external drive - how do I find out what it is?

These files should be considered malicious - do not attempt to run them.

Ok so like the title says I have an OS problem.
When I boot up, I see the asus logo, then have options (it takes longer than normal to get past this)
It then proceeds past the start up screen and then stops and says OS not found.

I uses the win7 disk an changed the bios to load the DVD first. When it finally loaded I clicked repair. It then asks to select the partition. No partition is shown in the white box. However, when I select the second option to load files, it opens into my hard drive and everything I have is there.

So what I need is help to understand why it cannot see the partition for 1 option but the second option allows me to open my hard drive. The PC sees the hard drive so that's not a problem.

Please help as I would like to fix this quickly.

No idea what started the problem as yesterday it worked fine. I shut it off and left.

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Win 7 OS not found, repair cannot find partition but upload can

Work through the steps in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start. As shown Confirm the Active partition then run Startup Repair a few times.

Sometimes if an OS doesn't appear for repair you can force it to show up using the bootrec commands in the step for How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows. Use the System Recovery Options Command Line.

Operating System not found

So first thought HDD is loose or Dead. So i wiggled it tried, no luck. Got a new HDD with the same error, Tried my HDD out of my working netbook.. Same error. Then tried the old one again and someone different came up.

PXE-E61- Media test failure, check cable.
PXE MOF- Exiting Nvidia Boot agent.

But this only poped up once.

Ive tried resetting the bios, even removed the cmos batter and replaced it. I put in windows vista Dvds (i have every version here) and not the one will work. The screen will load saying "Operating system not found"
So i tried my External DVD rom drive, Same error. I swaped out the Ram with different ones and each one indiviualally, All with the same error.

Please Help!!!

Answer:Opertaing system not found.. Can't find a fix that works

Hi Timman, can you go into your BIOS and see if there is an option to disable PXE boot.

Also, make sure that your HDD is the first boot device. Also, make sure that there are no CD's/DVD's/ Floppie Disks/ External hard drives etc attached.

Also, double check that all cables are correctly connected inside your computer. The hard drive cables are connected properly, RAM is seated correctly, gfx cards etc.

CN0M9KCM7220028H03BAA00 is not a motherboard part number, Dell's motherboard's number are similar to this example, "MIB75R" and are usually listed on a white label attached to the motherboard.

Here's another IE6 related problem....

When I am surfing with multiple IE windows open, IE will occasionally lose contact with reality. New addresses entered or links clicked will produce a Server Not Found error. When one window does this, other windows may temporarily work for a while.

Refreshing the page does not work. Clicking Detect Network Settings does not work.

If I close the existing windows, new windows work normally (for a while).

I haven't been able to pin down anything I'm doing that could contribute to this; although I do use ZoneAlarm Pro, IE has full permission to access.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'm using Windows 7 Professional x64. This is the case even though:

* I've checked 'Dimensions' in the 'Choose Details' options
* The folder is already categorized/optimized for 'Pictures'
* Other folders show the other details I want -- i.e., the Details Pane for my 'Videos' folder shows Length, Frame Width, Frame Height, and other details that I've chosen

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Good Morning,

I get random popups. I have run all available anti-spyware software and anti-virus software and it has not fixed this issue. Also after a clean reboot i only have about 5 min or so browse the web before i get a "cannot find server" screen. I can access the web with other programs ( worlds of warcraft is one).

I ran your Vundo utility per the directions i have seen on many of these posts and it did find and clean it up. I am still having some issues. IE still locks me out. here is my log.

Hi everybody and greetings from Belgium:
I was wondering if anyone might know if there is any way to get excel to highlight the cells when it finds information I've asked it to via edit>find.
Because I have such big spreadsheets, with a lot of text, and numbers, I find it really hard to see where the "found" cell is.
Thanks in advance

Answer:Excel 2003, find function, highlight "found" cell?

Hey guys. I'm sorry if this has been posted before but I searched and didn't find any sort of problem like the one I'm having anywhere on the web. So here goes..

My laptop will not find any networks in the house. My tablet, my phone, other peoples laptops find the network and are able to connect to the home wifi just fine. I've tried almost everything but my laptop will not pick up the wifi signal at all. I am not too far away from the router as it is in the next room. My laptop finds and connects to other wifi networks when they are around without any issue. I've connected an Ethernet cable from the router AND the modem directly to the laptop and it connects to the internet perfectly. My sister has the exact same router as I do in her home and it picks up the wifi signal fine. So I don't think it has to do with the router. I've honestly looked everywhere guys and haven't came across an issue like this.. please help.

Hi!! I've found another interesting bug fix!! I'm surprised i found no other useful material on this error on the internet, when it seems to be a fairly common and annoying error, but here goes:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\Report[any random number here]

In order to recognise which tmp file you should look into, you need to know the CATALOGUE number of the driver you wish to install.

[Guide to finding out the catalogue no.:
Inside of the place where you have your driver setup files (cd, floppy, wherever), locate the .cat file. It should have an icon with several sheets of paper bound with a strip of tape. Windows uses the catalogue file name as the tmp file name. So search through the folders in the above mentioned directory until you find the one with a tmp file by the name of the catalogue file you’ve located in the steps above]

In here you should find a .tmp file. There will be about 4 files, give or take. Open the .tmp file.

This is the file that will give the REAL solution to your problem:

In this file, windows logs its actions while installing the drivers.

Now here's the magic: Windows cannot find the file specified? Cos Either Windows or your Conexant driver witers is stupid. Either way, if you scroll down to the bottom of this file, and read the last 20 lines or so, you'll realize that windows was actually looking for the file that was missing in a valid folder, but the files weren’t there.

In my case, the folder was:... Read more

Hello everyone! I really need your help! I tried to recover files from my external  2 tb drive that I accidentally unplugged from my computer while the computer was scanning it. Recuva found every file that was missing. Those files also had the green dot next to them, showing they should be easily restored. The thing is, when I press restore, it restores files for 15 minutes, but only a portion of my files. The rest of files that weren't able to be retrieved, are then listed with " the system cannot find the file specified." next to each file. I'm so close to retrieving my data. Please tell me what I need to do to fix this error and get my files back. Thank you so much in advance!

Lexx, With the understanding that you are new to the forums i am going to try once more to shine a light on the process that is likely to serve you the best when posting on forums.Once a forum subject has been created stay within that one post and do NOT create additional ones on the same subject. It  will only cause confusion. I bring this up again because this new post relates directly to your April 20th post in the windows xp forum. Those that were attempting to assist you there do know the issue of your file recovery from your external was still unresolved. Also it  is not good forum practice to PM members directly that were trying to help you within a post. Many  people use the process of the public thread on a given subject to advance their own knowledge or to solve similar problems they may have. Also when members are seeking answers to their issues they may do a search on the forum to see if the issue has been dealt with. If the resolution or progress of an issue is taken into the PM route then all these benefits are lost or reduced. Now to your issue.Obviously as i indicated you have tried Recuva as an option to try and gain recovery of your files. However your result with it is similar to mine though an indication of recoverable files was stated in fact with that same program all the files it "found" were corrupted and non recoverable. You can still try with other programs that were contained in my link but personally i doubt you will have m... Read more

I downloaded windows 10. Couldn't find documents, pics, etc. Finally found, at least some, in c/users/my name. But when I go to open them, they open for .5 second, then they're gone again. They will not stay open. What's going on???? I'd rather just go back to windows 7 but it has been slightly over 30 days and, frankly, I'm afraid of losing all my files!!! What can I do?? I also read that Windows 10 is going through more changes and it could be possible that anyone on Windows 10 could lose their files as new changes are being made!! HELP!! I updated to Windows 10 on Sept 22.

I had some trouble with one of my harddisks, after I connected it via a USB hub. When I disconnected it and put it back in later on, checkdisk told me I had a corrupted file and proposed a scan. After scanning, it told me that it had created a found file somewhere. I didnt find it, but since nothing was missing, I didn?t think about it any further. A couple of days later, the same thing happened again, but this time most of my files were gone. I searched everywhere for the "found"files, but there are nowhere to be seen. Anyone got an idea where they went?

Answer:How do I find "found"files created by CHKDSK?

Welcome Zeraphyne to the windows 7 forums.

You might not be seeing the "found" files because they are listed as system files.

You need to go to Control panel and look in folder options. select the view tab and then unselect the hide options on system and hidden files. while your at it I receommend unchecking them all so that you can see all files and files extensions.
normally chkdsk puts the found files in the root directory of your drive.

Hello, my first post. Searched for the topic but could find no reference.

I experience the following problem: "GoogleCloudSDKInstaller.exe" exits without completing the installation, details say: <"find" not recognized as internal or external command>

I searched in my laptop and found the following situation:

A) "find.exe" exists, where i should be and works (if invoked with path)

C:\Users\ro>ls C:\WINDOWS\system32\find.exe'

FIND: formato del parametro non corretto

B) "find" works just the same

C:\Users\ro>C:\WINDOWS\system32\findFIND: formato del parametro non corretto

C) THE COMMAND ACTUALLY DOESN'T WORK! (when invoked without path!)
though the path is included in the PATH= system variable

"find" non ? riconosciuto come comando interno o esterno, un programma eseguibile o un file batch.

PATH=C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath; C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\iCLS Client\; C:\Program Files\Intel\iCLS Client\; C:\WINDOWS\system32; .....omissis....

1 - how is it possible that an external command, on the path, is not found?
2 - is there a way to make things work properly?

Many thanks, rs

Windows 7 Professional 32bit, Gigabyte x86 PC.

Windows bluetooth discovery is not finding any devices. On my android phone I can turn on discovery and locate the PC, and it prompts me to enter the passcode on the PC. However no devices show up.

I have tried three different USB dongles and installed the generic Windows bluetooth driver. (One of the devices prompted me for a different driver which was downloaded and installed, but then the radio was not recognized) I've tried three different devices as well (a mouse, a trackpad, and the android phone).

I've installed "Bluetooth Command Line Tools" and it tells me that the radio is installed and working properly, as does the Windows device manager. Bluetooth icon shows in the system tray when the dongle is plugged in.

I've changed the settings in services.msc as detailed in other posts (changing to local account with my username and password).

I've turned off firewall and antivirus, no change.

Constructive ideas, suggestions, and opinions are welcome. I can't just throw it out the window, though, as this is a work computer. All I want to do is add a Bluetooth trackpad.

Answer:No bluetooth devices found, but other devices find the PC.

I've just installed BlueSoliel (trail version which will expire in 30 days) and now all my devices can pair and connect.

At this point it appears to be a Windows software / driver issue. I'd really like to track this down and fix it myself, I don't mind actually paying for the BlueSoliel software but I'm stubborn about 'stupid computer problems'.

I am using windows 7 with office 2010.

I am trying to use the text in an adjacent cell, a movie title, search a folder to find a shortcut to that movie title, and have it appear next to the title. I have been searching using Google, using small precise search terms such as "excel macro file" or "excel macro search for file". I have gotten kind of close to what I'm looking for, but not quite there.

Hopefully the code below will give the reader of this post a better idea of what I'm trying to do. I was initially thinking a search routine, but then realized that the path was always the same (all of these shortcuts are in the same folder), so why not just copy the text from the adjacent cell and "build" my own link. That's what the following routine does and it does work ... provided all the movies are the same format, i.e., .wmv, .avi, .mkv, etc., which they are not. As a result the only two choices I have would be to convert all the movies to the same format, which would take for ever, or use a search routine, which I haven't mastered, and where I need some help.
Here is the build your own link routine:
Sub Insert_Hyperlink2()
Dim Hold As String
' Macro1 Macro

Dim wsM As Worksheet, wsA As Worksheet
Dim isPresent As Boolean
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
' Relate the sheets to the variables
Set wsM = Sheets("Movie Info")

Hold = wsM.Cells(10, 4)

Brand new external HDD, Western Digital My Book 1230 4TB, 1 week old now. When transferring files from the HDD as well as when renaming or deleting them, I get the error message:

"Item not Found; Could not find this item; This is no longer located in F:\music\[file name]. Verify the item's location and try again.",

while when transferring files to the HDD from any other location other than the drive, I get a similar:

"Item not Found; Could not find this item; This is no longer located in F:\. Verify the item's location and try again.".

The files on the drive are audio files and they cannot be played, as I get an error message: "File reading failed: could not open file "[directory]"; Your input can't be opened: [directory]"
Uninstalling the HDD's drivers through device manager, restarting the computer and then letting them reinstall seems to temporarily fix the problem, which is how I got some files onto the drive in the first place, but it always seems to come back after another reboot or occasionally during use.

I have tried using other external HDDs and they function perfectly well on my PC, and I have tested the WD My Book drive on a different PC and it doesn't seem to run into any errors over longer periods of use, even after multiple restarts of the secondary PC.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit on both PCs.

This seems to me like a fairly simple issue to solve, but I haven't qui... Read more

I have IE 8.0 and Netscape 8.1.3 on Windows XP (media ed). Both browsers have the same problem. Google searches' links are redirected. The first link clicked works, but subsequent ones are redirected. There is no other unusual activity. The redirection does not occur with a proxy server using google.

I have tried Norton, Trend Micro PC-cillin, Malware Bytes, and Spybot S&D. None of these detect any malware and none solve the problem. The DNS is automatically obtained.

I have looked through the forum, and there appears to be a number of people with similar problems, but the solutions offerred (if not too specific) have not worked.

TL;DR Ubuntu finds and uses a PCIe Wifi card just fine, but Windows can't find it. (Apparently needs USB header connection on MB?)

Long Version:
I use a PCIe card with the Intel Dual Band 8260AC chipset. The interesting part is that it has a USB 2.0 header on it that you're supposed to plug into a header on the MB. I had it installed this way previously and it was working fine til last night. I upgrade my CPU/MB/RAM, but the new MB is one USB 2.0 header short. The old MB had 3, all filled, but the new MB has only 2 USB 2.0 headers and 1 USB 3.0 header, so one device is left out. I decided to leave the wifi card plugged into the PCIe slot, but not plugged into a MB header and fire it up and make sure everything else was working.

No surprise, but I had no wifi. Figured maybe a new driver might solve the issue as it seems weird to need both a PCIe slot and a USB connection. So I dug out a USB wifi dongle I had and proceeded to update/install every possible driver, BIOS, etc. for the new MB and the wifi card. Still nothing.

Just out of curiosity I rebooted into Ubuntu (latest 17.10), and voila! Wifi worked! I removed the USB dongle just to make sure, but it definitely works just fine in Ubuntu, but Windows 10 cannot find the device. This is without the USB connection BTW. I've installed and reinstalled the driver, but no dice.

Any thoughts on getting Windows to recognize the card without the USB header connected? And any thoughts on why Ubuntu can find and use the device jus... Read more

Hi and thanks for a very helpful forum. I read through all the malware removal instructions and have completed the step-by-step cleaning process (which seems to have worked) and now would like to confirm that my system is actually clean. Please see attached logs. Note: ComboFix did run but then froze during the "preparing log report" phase, so the attached ComboFix log is just the txt I found in the folder, not the full zip log. Also, RootRepeal failed to run at all (in normal or safe mode).

More infor about infection:

AVG found Crypt.AQLW but couldn't fully clean it
CPU & HD constantly at 100%, firewall had been disabled, internet traffic going mad & link redirection - immediately disconnected from internet
SUPERAntiSpyware found and cleaned Trojan.Agent/Gen-Loader
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware found and cleaned Exploit.Drop.CFG
ComboFix found and cleaned Rootkit.ZeroAccess ... but failed to generate full report. CPU dropped to normal after this!
RootRepeal failed to run
MGTools ran normally

Note: Before finding this forum, I also found advice to run Kaspersky TDSSKiller which I did, and it did find something, but didn't fix the issue. Log for that attached as well.

Answer:AVG found Crypt.AQLW and subsequent scans found Rootkit.ZeroAccess

More logs ...

Note: It says in the ComboFix.txt that AVG was still enabled (and it also gave me that warning message) but I had already used the recommended AVG removal tool and AVG was no longer installed or running at the time.

I've now updated my OS and all my software, have switched to MS Security Essentials and re-enabled firewall etc.

I ran into this problem a few hours ago and have been pulling my hear out. Autorepairs diagnose the problem as a problem with the partition table, but is unable to automatically fix it Ive gone into diskpart and confirmed that the partition was active. I reset the MBR thought bootrec,
bootsect.exe /nt60 all /force

Success on all three windows partitions manually creating the BCD initially works. I can create the store, but when i run bcdedit /import i get an error saying the store does not exist. I am desperately trying to avoid an os reinstall. I havent made any changes in the past few weeks so I dont know what could have caused this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:bootmgr not found. bootrec /rebuildbcd and /fixboot give 'Element not found" error

I just solved my problem in another way.. non of the above solutions helped me.. kept saying in rebuildbcd, that the total ammount of windows installations found was: 0 I moved the sata cable to another port,.. that fixed the problem for me.. might help others Anders

i ran trojan remover on safe mode before i ran into this tech forum.

it found 2 malware infections. a trojan and a hacking system file.
they both were deleted by the trojan remover program. when i ran it again. nothing was found....but my main concern right now is that i was reading the log that i was given and it said something about some files being locked or in use. and im not sure if the computer is really finally out of harms way.

i do have a boot disc if i have to reformat. but i do run a store AND reformatting is such a huge hassle. i will do it if ihave to. but i would like to know if im still in harms way.

i ran the programs you guys asked and i will be attaching them here.
ALSO i will attach the trojan remover log..just so you see what im talking abt.

the computer started acting up, an the main that it was doing, was everytime i would turn the computer back on, the receipt printer was uninstalled. EVERYTIME.

thanks in advance.

Background: clone the entire contents of the HDD to a SSD with the aim to replace the HDD, including the OS.

After having cloned a HDD with Windows 7 laptop to a SDD successfully, and replaced the HDD with the SDD, resulted in a smooth boot exactly the the same procedure failed with a 2007 laptop Vista 32bit.

Procedure with support of the guidelines of the SSD Vendor (Sandisk):
1. Initialize SSD
2. Clone the entire HDD to the SSD
3. Replace the HDD with the SSD
4. Start the laptop.
5a. Result with a Win 7 laptop: OK
5b. Result with a Vista 32bit laptop: failed

Failure with Vista (I'm not that technical):

The BIOS indicates: no IDE device found.
When starting up, the message 'Operation System not found' appears

A major difference between the Win 7 and Vista laptop is the transfer mode of the (former) HDD and the new SSD: Win 7 had a SATA 300 installed, while the Vista has a SATA 150. The SSD is SATA 600.

What I did?
1) I created a ISO Vista 32bit file to get the laptop into the repair mode. This repair mode does not recognize a drive c: (checking out with the installed DOS).
So, i'm turning in circles. There is no way to get the internal SSD recognized.

2) When connecting the new SSD drive with USB to check the SSD status with the Computer Management/Disk Management tool, this is displayed:
The internal HDD (containing the system) shows: Healty (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition). The USB connected SSD shows: Healty (Active, Primary Partition). Further, the ... Read more

Hi all, I'm trying to do a vanilla installation of my Lenovo R61e 7650 and am experiencing something I've never seen before - I boot up XP, Press F6 and load the correct SATA drivers, Windows continues and successfully sees the hard drive, I tell it to format the hard drive but when it comes to asking for the SATA floppy disk again just before copying files (as normal), the setup suddenley ceases to see the floppy drive - game over.I decided to abandon the vanilla install and boot from the recovery partition but I don't get the To Start the Product Recovery program, press F11 message as instructed here: Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this?  I wanted to update the bios to see if that helped but have discovered you can't do it from a floppy ( CD only and I don't have a burner apart from on my laptop ) or directly from Windows on the laptop ( and the laptop is blank because I've formatted the drive during setup and I can't run the recovery partition). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Bob

Some of these are recurring and it seems I have an increase in " <====== ATTENTION" entries on the Farbar log from previous scans. Obviously, I don't have the expertise to fix any remaining issues and need help. Here are the 2 Farbar scan logs:

Hello chriffan and Welcome to the BleepingComputer.
My name is Yılmaz and I'll help you with the cleanup of malware from your computer.
Before we move on, please read the following points carefully.
Please complete all steps in the specified order.
Even if tools don't find malware, I want you to post the logfiles anyway.
Please copy and paste the logfiles directly into your posts. Please do not attach them unless you are instructed to do so.
Read the instructions carefully. If you have problems, stop what you  were doing and describe the problems you encountered as precisely as  you can.
Don't install or uninstall software during the cleanup unless you are told to do so.
Ensure your external and/or USB drives are inserted during always the scan.
If you can't answer for the next few days, please let me know. If  you haven't answered within 5 days, I am assuming that you don't need  help anymore and your topic will be closed.
If you have illegal/cracked software, cracks, keygens, etc. on the system, please remove or uninstall them now!
I can not guarantee that we will find and be able to remove all  malware. The cleaning process is not instant. Please continue to review  my answers until I tell you that your computer is clean
Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic
As my first language is not English, please do not use slang or idioms. It could be hard for me to understand.
