Computer runs Slow, Internet slow, Applications slow

Question: Computer runs Slow, Internet slow, Applications slow

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/archives and remove found threats. ESET Scanner message stated that the files have been removed and quarantined.

Due to the nature and complexity and severity of the threats found by the free ESET Online Scanner, I am not certain that my system on this computer is completely free of viruses/infections at this time. Although some of the performance and speed are a little better now, the system is still a bit sluggish and I do not feel safe to conduct any banking or internet purchases on this computer until I can feel confident that the system is clean.

Any assistance you folks can provide me will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Wireless: AT&T Expresscard

Concurrent wil all this, something is resetting my trackpad settings back to default on every reboot. Solved this last summer by removing something from Logitech, but the problem is back now. Weird.

Internet MUCH slower than usual, responses sluggish on- and offline. System fans kick on within 2-3 minutes of startup. I've run all the usuals - McAfee, Ad-Aware, SpyBot, disk cleanup, and chkdsk. Hard boot after all that, then ran HijackThis:

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me.  My computer starts kind of slow, and I feel like it is running a little slow also.  I thought it would be a good idea to un-check some of the start-up things after going into misconfig, but I do not know what any of the items are.  Is there an easy way to make my computer start faster.  Also, when I am on the computer, I hear the tower making noise like it is doing something, as though there was some kind of background process going on that I don't know about.  I am running McAfee and I am pretty sure I do not have any kind of virus.  Please help.

Answer:start slow, runs slow and makes noise when I am simply typing on computer

Oh Yeah, I am running windows XP that came with the computer a year ago when I bought it.  It has an 80 gig hard drive and I think 1 gig of memory.  Thanks in advance to anyone's response.

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

It takes forever to pull up Interent Explorer... and still everything is very slow in terms of reaction time to my clicking/typing. If I leave my computer on overnight, it takes a few minutes it seems to "warm up" once I try to access an application.

Any suggestions? I know this is a vague description. Thanks.

Alright, so today i replaced my dad's powersupply and got an "Error Loading OS" Message for his system when it previously had XP on it. So i said forget messing with it ill just put vista on it and call it a day.

After putting the vista disk in it seemed to go pretty slow compaired to how it was on mine. But in the end it took about 1hr to 1hr and 1/2 to install completely. After installing it took forever to do the first boot up and after it booted i could not move the mouse more than one direction every 2 minutes or so. The system would apparently freeze or become completely bogged down for no reason.

So, this is a fresh install of Vista on a fairly good machine. Any reason why it is running as though it has the worst specs in the world?

PS: It runs fine in Safe Mode.....

The System configuration is as follows:

OS: Vista Ultimate 64bit
MoBo: Asus P5NSLI
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Graphics Cards: Nvidia 8600GT x2 SLI
Hard Drives: 3 various, one 80, one 200g, one 300g
RAM: 4gigs of corsair or something of the form.. namebrand to say the least

I Cant think of what else might help... it is doing this for NO REASON what so ever that i can find.

Hello Dave and welcome to TSF,

Yes, you do have something.

Please download VundoFix5.exe to your desktop.Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.

Answer:Help! Slow Computer, Slow Internet. Slow, Slow, Slow!

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

Greetings all ...This is my first post.Yesterday, I found that my computer got the vwwdiag32.exe infection. As result, computer runs very very very slowly. It takes 30-45 minutes for dialog boxes to appear. For example, I clicked on SBC Yahoo to access Internet. It took 30-35 mins just for the box to show up that would let me enter my user name. After I enter my name and password, it takes another 20-30 minutes to confirm that I am "in".When I try to move dialog boxes on my screen or minimise the windows, it takes similarly long time for windows to move ... like 20-30 mins.I also got a dialog box that says "361101032252978.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You need to restart".I took the following steps:1) Ran Ad-Aware SE, took every step they told me to take.2) installed Spybot. Could not load the updates because my computer running soooo slow.3) Already got rid of junk from hard drive (ie undesired apps, old digital pics, etc)4) Ran a Hijack This. But am not posting the log here, because your rules say not to.I want to install stuff like Panda Anti-Virus, McAfee AVERT Stinger, and Housecall Anti-Virus. But computer is running so slow to respond betwn clicks. What should I do next ?Computer is very very slow, like walking thru molasses. I am posting this msg from a backup computer.Pls help

Hello all,

I come to you because I am currently experiencing an issue with my computer. Whenever I access the internet, the internet goes incredibly slow and then the computer follows as well. When I run programs that do not use the internet, it runs slow after I access the internet but not before. I have ran both Malwarebytes and ESET online scanner and they did clean and remove several infected files, but the computer is still acting a bit sluggish. I was thinking of running combofix as I am quite learned in removing virus and malware, but I wanted to post my hijack this log first to see if there are any serious infections on my computer or if it is something else causing my internet to act this way.

Yesterday, my internet connection was fine, I was able to watch videos without any lag. Then I went out so I turned it off. When I came home and turned the computer back on, the internet connection was mysteriously slow. I tried watching some videos on Youtube and other sites but they would only load about 3 seconds worth of video every several minutes. Some sites also took longer than usual to load. Downloads take forever - a 4.8MB file should usually take only several minutes at the most but I have one currently downloading which is taking 22 minutes and counting. I restarted the computer but that improved the internet speed only marginally. I didn't install any new programs and I ran AVG 8.5 Free but it came up negative. My OS is Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Nevermind, it was just a loose cable. My bad.

Hello. for the last week or so my computer has been running slow everytime the internet loads. The computer never used to run slow when the internet was loading. And it even runs fine every once and a while. Some examples are.-When I browse web pages I usly look at more then one thing. I use firefox, so what I do is while one page is loading I open up another tab and look at that site. But recently when the other page is loading the computer runs slow.-Is used to be able to watch gamespot videos. What would happen before is.... It would load 25% of the video then play that 25% while the other 75% is loading, and the video would run smooth and fine. But now I can only watch the video once it is 100% loaded, because once it has 100% loaded the video then the internet isn't really being used.-When playing cames at teagames.com the games run slow because the game is constantly loading. It has been doing that for over a week now but I was playing it 2 days ago and it was running fine, but most of the time it is really slow.It has been doing this for about a week now. I have run four diffrent virus scanners (AVG, Trend Micro, KasperSky, stinger virus scanner) and I have no viruses. I have run spyware programs (Spybot, Pest Patrol, Spyware doctor, Ad-Aware) and I have no spyware. I have also run programs like CCleaner, ewido, tuneup utilites 1 click maintenance, and diskkeeper. After running everything the computer still runs slow when loading stuff off the internet. Why has my compu... Read more

Answer:Computer runs slow when internet is loading

Well, I hope you don't have multiple anti-virus programs running at the same time.  That could slow down your system. Is the computer performing as it should when not online?  I'm wondering whether the problem is actually your Internet connection.  Have you ever ran any Internet speed tests?  I suggest visiting www.dslreports.com and running a speed test and tweaks test.  If you create a user account and are logged on when you run the tests, you can save the results and then see your results compared to others.  You may have issues you need to discuss with your ISP.

So where to start with this computer. I guess I'll start with the foundation of the problem
I own a Dell Inspiron of which I use fairly less than my separate computer. Lately, a lot of problems have begun to arise.
My computer runs incredibly slow. I've gone about cleaning it with CCleaner and checking for Malware using Malwarebytes. Overall I began to see the health of my computer increase as time passed and I was happy with the results. That is until I put the computer to the side for a week to let it cool down so to speak.
When I booted up, I was greeted with the Windows 7 logo for about 5 minutes, incredibly longer than the last time I tended to it. When I finally logged in to the computer itself, everything seemed normal.
As per my normal suspicions, I instantly ran Malwarebytes. Instead of opening however, it instant closed. Rather disappointed, I turned instead to finishing the install of AVG. I was greeted there with the installation client stating that there was no network to complete the install.
I was connected to the internet without any exclaimation point for a warning? That couldn't be right.
So just out of testing, I opened up Steam to see if it was an overall problem. It prompted me with the idea that it had no internet connection. Same with Razer Cortex. I checked Windows Firewall to ensure they were all in the exceptions, and they were. Strange.
I opened Chrome and found that it instantly connected to Google. Every other application but Chrome had no intern... Read more

My computer is locking up as I type this and I dont know how to fix it. I've tried downloading the suggested Spyware and Scans but Ive had no success. Im not a computer whiz obviously, so I need some suggestions on how and where to fix this problem. I do believe that I have some sort of virus but I have no idea how to remove them. I'd appreciate any help I can get ! Thanks

Answer:Slow Slow Slow Browser, Applications Failing

How long has it been since Windows was installed? Have you done any regular file maintenance, like deleting old files you don't need anymore, deleting temp files, uninstalling programs you don't use anymore, deleting months-old system restore points, etc, and then running scandisk, and lastly, running defrag? Maybe it's not a virus. You may just be running out of room on your hdd.

I have been experiencing strange issues on my laptop this past month. First off, I have to say I once installed a program called SSPro or System Surveillance Pro to see how it worked. I followed instructions on how to remove it, but I am not sure if files still exist that are causing problems. In addition, I ran an Panda Active Scan and had found a file called KillProcwin.A and also followed some other instructions on how to remove that. Anyway, I notice that my computer in general is very slow to start up. Then when I try to do Internet searches or simply click within a web page, it freezes up. I do Ctrl-alt-del when pages are not responding and have to end programs. I also notice that when I shut down my computer I see a message about having to end program hpcmpmgr.exe. I have tried to shut down/restart several times today. The last time I opened Internet Explorer I received a message, "Instruction at 0x7c910193 referenced memory at 0x1440db62. The memory could not be 'written.' Click OK to terminate or CANCEL to debug. This is becoming extremely frustrating so any help on these issues is much appreciated. Here is my DDS text and attached are the files you requested. Thanks!

Answer:Computer runs slow, internet is intermittent, IE seachbar highjacked.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Click Start - Run - and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find:

DomainService - Unknown owner

Right click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK.
Exit the Services utility.
Note: You may get an error here when trying to access the properties of the service. If you do get an error, just select the service and look there in the top left of the main service window and click "Stop" to stop the service. If that gives an error or it is already stopped, just skip this step and proceed with the rest.

Run HJT again and put a check in the following:

Hi,
I am knew to this and hope I have done all I can in order for you to help me. My computer started to run very, very slow in all aspects. This week I have started being redirected from my usual msn homepage to usuc.us/2/stuff/to_peakclick.html. This in turn takes me to a page called firesearch. I have checked to see if my homepage was changed and it wasn't but I still get redirected. Also, my computer has started saying I was disconnected from the internet when I clearly have not been. I had a lot of trouble using the Deckard scan because of this. Every time I tried to use the scan I would only get the main text file and not the extra text file. I finally did a clean scan, downloaded the scanner again and was able to get the extra file like I was supposed too. I have found some strange things in my documents such as a halloween file.

I have also noticed that at times a very small icon will flash extremely quickly in the taskbar. It is so fast that I have only seen what it looks like once in which appeared to be a ship or tugboat. I know that sounds really strange but that is what appeard for a brief second and then it was gone.

I have followed the five step process and I hope I post this right. If not, I apologize now since I am not the most tech savvy. I also thank you ahead of time for any assistance you can offer.

L.J.

I've been having problems on this version of windows 7 ultimate 64x I installed on a friend's computer. Everything works fine but firefox occassionally would open a new tab to random spamware sites and things of that nature but only when firefox was open. The other problem I'm having is that before this started, everything ran great, but now, the internet on this computer runs horribly slow, I've ran speed tests on speedtest.net and it's showing ping of over 300 and downloads and upload speed of under 1.00 mb/s. I run the same tests on my laptop and it's showing my internet is running fine at 10-15 mb/s.  The desktop runs fine otherwise.  I can't seem to shake this problem.  I thought I had fixed it last night when things ran great again, but this morning when i booted it up, the same problem with the internet happened.  I have no idea what's going on. I have ran malware bytes, rkill, and combo fix scans. I have the combofix log attatched to this. I look forward to any help / insite you guys can give me into this problem.

Hi good people!
I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit,service pack 1.
For the last 7 days i'm having problems i'm about to describe:
PC is running great for some 12 hours, and then it starts to freeze. I'm unable to start Task Menager (Alt+Ctrl+Del) or any other command. The only solution is restar. But then Windows refuses to start and messege apears ''Windows fails to start, due to recent hardware or software change...'' I get the option Starup repair, and when scan is finished,Restore button apears. I HAVE TO restore it to ''the time it worked corectlly''.That is the only way to get it working for next 12 hours. And then everything starts again...
Before you ask,I've upadated EVERYTHING,drivers, direct X,latest Win updates, scaned it for viruses etc etc. Nothing seems to help.
Any ideas? I'm desperate cos I know i did everything I could. And that is why i'm asking for proffesionals opinion

Hi The computer  that is slow is a desk top tower. In a home.  it is a E machine.
it has windows 7  professional  with service pack 1
DO KNOW :  I am very new to windows 7 and all it's features.
When I brought this computer home  last Nov. it was lightening fast at everything! so much better than  the windows XP  it replaced, I was thrilled.  yet Now starting in  April 2015  it is as slow  or slower  as my old Windows with XP ever was  ( and partially the reason for saving my  pennies to get this windows 7 computer)...and  now I'm upset. feeling  like I have been taken.

Computer displays the following :
3.8 windows experience index
Intel pentium dual 2.0Ghz  processor
64 Bit

Has Ccleaner installed
has Comodo antivirus and Comodo cleaning essentials installed.
All virus scans  find no infections,  and report that all is well and protected.  ( B/C of the way the computer is operating i'm doubting that and betting there is an infections of some sort)

I Have run Comodo cleaning essentials and  results find no abnormalities or infections.
Have run TFC and JRT  and the computer shows no signs of improvement.
have run rKill  and it  finds  no abnormalities  or infections.
All virus scan results  find no infections.
Windows updates is activated  and  all latest updates have been installed.... Read more

Hi flywelder Maybe we aren't looking at an infection here. There's tons of reasons why a system can slow down, and not all of them are malware related. Let's try to take a look at this issue under another angle shall we?MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:List Installed Programs;List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;List Devices - Only Problems;List Users, Partitions and Memory size;Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Hello smart folks,

My Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop used to boot up in under a minute. Now, it takes several minutes and any time I run a program it takes a long time for them to boot up. And, heck, I see delays in programs while they're in use.

I just upgraded from 512MB to 2 GB of RAM hoping that would help. It didn't.

I've followed your steps and I think my computer is a lot safer now. Thank you.

I run Norton antivirus.

I feel like the biggest contributor to my laptop's slowness is Enterprise Office 2007. Some little searching magnifying glass seems to always be on and my computer's hard drive seems to grind a lot even when the computer should be sitting there idle.

If I open a Microsoft Office 2007 program like Word, Excel, or Outlook, they open REALLY slowly.

Also, can you please recommend a good registry scrubber? I like freeware, but I'll buy it if I must. That RegCure program seems like a scam. Below is my HiJack This log. I've also included the start up log below it since my start up is so slow.

Thank you.

Hi,
My laptop was recently the victim of some malware/virus and I can't figure out how to fix it. I've tried the suggested steps to clear it from my system, and have tried running a few anti virus programs while in safe mode. The Dr Web scanner indicated that there was some malware in my dell support system files, which I've attempted to delete . In the past few days, I've deleted some files that are supposedly incosequential (ie Dell connect, etc), but now I am wondering if I deleted a file I shouldn't have. I was going via the advice given on some other forums, regards the neccessity of some of these programs.

I have a Dell inspiron e1705 with Windows Vista (32 bit) .

Some of the symptoms of the problem include:
-no wireless intenet availability (says "the adapter is not connected") - never had a problem previously
- very slow with frequent freezes
-I do not see any obvious resource taken up the memory space in the Windows Task Manager log
-Occasionally, some random tmp files have appeared all of a sudden on my desktop.

Here is the HiJack log file:

Hello, alexismyname
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

A little while ago I put a new 1TB hard drive in my Dell Inspiron N5050 to replace the old 500GB one. I used the Windows backup program on the computer and the information on the Windows website. I transferred the system image to a backup hard drive, then installed it onto the new hard drive. I've tried a disc cleanup, defragmenting the hard drive, and I've run all the diagnostics that Windows has and still this thing is SLOW!
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, my computer has an Intel Core I3 processor. I still have the old hard drive with everything still on it and I still have the system image on the backup hard drive. Please if anyone can help, I would GREATLY appreciate it, this thing is driving me nuts (My OLD Inspiron 1420 with a Core2 Duo processor runs circles around my N5050!)

I'm trying to solve a "slow computer" problem for a friend...The stand-alone version of AVG Anti-Spyware runs slowly on his machine and does not not scan smoothly, stalling a bit every 5 to 15 seconds. This happens even when running in safe mode. Occasionally the scanner will freeze right after I begin scanning, forcing me to do a cold reboot (ctrl-alt-dlt doesn't work).I have run other virus checkers and the system - 1.4 GHZ Gateway desktop, XP Pro SP2 - looks clean, but seems like it should run a bit faster than it is. Nothing unusual is running on startup or via processes, at least nothing I can see in msconfig. A recent "HijackThis" logfile doesn't appear to show anything malevolent.Another weird symtptom is that the Windows "chimes" sound is sometimes cut off when the PC boots up.What could be causing this? Thanks...Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Answer:Slow Pc... Anti-spyware Scanner Runs Slow And Stalls

If you are sure no malware issues Please follow these steps : ? Defrag your system. Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk when a file is opened. Disk Defragmenter consolidates fragmented files and folders on the hard disk so that each occupies a single space on the disk. This speeds up reading and writing to the disk. Read "The Importance of Disk Defragmentation" for instructions.? Check for disk errors by running CHKDSK. CHKDSK can be run from the Recovery Console, the command prompt or through the Windows GUI.To run chkdsk from the Win XP GUI see these instructions. To run chkdsk from the command prompt see these instructions. To run chkdsk from the Recovery Console see these instructions. The problem with running CHKDSK from Win XP is that it will not check files that are being used by Windows. Using chkdsk in the Recovery Console with the /r switch is a way to resolve this.? Check for damaged, altered or missing critical system files by running the System File Checker. If SFC discovers that a protected file has been damaged, altered or missing, it restores the correct version of the file from the cache folder. You must be logged on as an administrator or as a member of the Administrators group to run sfc and it may ask you to insert your XP Installation CD so have it available.? Hello, Tech Guy Forums!

I've got a Compaq Presario 2410 laptop running Windows XP Home Ed. (SP2) that's seen a gradual decline in performance over the past several months. Boot-up time has increased to about 5 minutes now, applications load very slowly, even alt-tabbing between two windows can take me on the order of 15 seconds. I've been running Lavasoft's Adaware compulsively, but I'm concerned that it's missing something that's causing the slowdown. I am not seeing an popup windows, but the processor seems to be working quite hard even when no programs are open.

Also, I've had a Windows Update yellow shield popping up regularly for awhile now, which is trying to install Office XP Service Pack 3, but it gets halfway through and asks for the Office XP CD, which I misplaced during my last move across the country. Office works fine (except for the overall slowdown). I have no idea if the update I can't get and the slowdown are related.

I've attached a Hijackthis log in the hope that someone here might be able to help me locate the source of my problems. I'm not literate enough to interpret everything in the log, but I do know better than to start deleting system files willy-nilly. Any help given is thoroughly appreciated!

- Tom

As stated in this subject. My computer is about 6 months old, recently I have been having issues with it being loud and overall very bogged down. I used Superantispyware, malwarebytes and panda virus. Please help and advise what I can do to correct the issue.

Hello 7forums. I have a problem with my Windows 7 Professional (32bit). I'll try to explain everything in detail.

Quote:
PC specs:
Processor: Intel Core 2 DUO CPU T5800 @2.0 GHZ
Installed memory (RAM): 2.0 GB
System type: 32-bit operating system

Yesterday I was using uTorrent to download some files (24 gigabytes +). It was downloading at a speed of ~7-8 Mb/s. During the download I noticed that the PC was running pretty hard and I checked in the Task Manager for processor and RAM usage, noticing that the processor was used at around 50% of capacity but RAM memory was used at 1.9 GB, that's around 98%.

I restarted the laptop and run the download again. Memory usage was about 1.4 GB. Then, I tried to open Firefox and go check something on a website and everything crashed. I unplugged the laptop (n00b way of solving things) to shut it down and then started it back. At this point I noticed that it took like half an hour to boot and show desktop. Also, everything was running extremely slow.

I inserted my Windows 7 disc and ran through the `Repair Windows` wizard. I left it like that for about an hour and it was just telling me `Attempting Repairs`. I stopped it at that point and then re-installed Windows by formatting the partition.

Now, when I start the laptop it takes like 5-10 minutes until it shows me the desktop (before was 1 minute). Also I noticed that everything runs extremely slow. All the drivers have been successfully installed (except ... Read more

You guys have been very helpful in the past so I thought I'd come to you preventatively this time. My Dell laptop is five years old and I won't be able to purchase a new one for another year or two. As far as I know, I don't have any major virus or problems, but gradually my computer has become very slow, and sometimes it freezes. Loading photos on Facebook is a common situation it freezes in, but it happens with other things too. It also starts up very slow, and it can take awhile for windows to open.

So far I have tried a number of fixes: System Restore, defragmenting, freeing up space on the hard drive, rearranging items on hard disk, deleting programs I know I don't use, scanning and removing spyware/viruses with Kaspersky/Spybot Search & Destroy/Ewido Anti-Malware/Spyware Blaster, and deleting temp files as suggested by a similar thread in this forum. I deleted Temp files from these locations:

Hey I recently bought a new computer that is much better than my old one in stats but its not acting like it.

Windows XP
Service Pack 3
Intel Dual Core E5200
2.50GHz
2GB RAM

Now it was running ok to begin with but then the internet started having problems. It kept dropping out or fluctuating in speed and nothing seemed to fix it. It didnt happen on my old system it sat nicely at 54MB/s all the time.

Then the rest of the computer started going slow to start up so i got rid of some start up programs and desktop items which didnt seem to do much. And now ive noticed that when songs are playing in itunes they skip seconds every now and then.

Also when i click for programs to come up after i wait till everything is started up properly i have to wait a minute or two before they open. And burning DVDs has doubled in how long it takes.

Any ideas of what could be wrong, ive scanned for viruses using Avira and spyware using SUPERantispyware, ive cleaned registry using Registry easy and removed all unnecesary crap using CCleaner.

It got suggested that my computer was going slow because of AVG8 so i got rid of it and with got Avira but it slowed up again.

Hey, basically computer's been a bit slow and tried clearing some stuff and done other things, but still no luck, to make things worse internet's been a lot slow and when using either firefox and internet explorer. For example when going on youtube some videos would freeze in the middle and i would have to reload the page, and sometimes takes ages to load a page.

So here's my DDS log and hopefully the problem can be diagnosed, thank you.

This is my first time posting a question on bleeping computer. We are so thankful that you are out there to help us and not rip us off. I think my computer is infected. My desktop starts up very slowly, my internet connection is slow (it's slow in pulling up websites and some never come up). I'm getting lots of pop ups (even though pop up blocker is enabled). When I go to open the control panel, a flashlight pops up as if it is looking for it (it eventually does open but it takes a while). I had a problem at one time with a lot of POS.TMP files and followed advice from posts on this site to get rid of them. Well, my current problems started when a friend downloaded a music program. I believe it was called Soundman. When I noticed the computer acting funny, I went into the control panel and deleted it along with some other programs I found (PPC Booster, P2P Max, Ron Tool Adsoftinc, Wyzo, Eco Bar). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Hello, my computer has been extremely slow on boot and my desktop has been hijacked with a message about changing it to a website. I also have a program called "error fix" showing up on my desktop and I have no idea where it came from. I've run Malware Bytes twice on the computer with numerous problems found. After running it the second time, I got a message saying I needed to run CHKDSK which I ran. Also, my internet is running very slowly and I just got a message that says "A program on your computer has corrupted your default setting for Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has reset this sietting to your original search provider, Live.Search (search.live.com). Internet will now open Search Settings, where you can change this setting or install more search providors."

Hello, i'll be grateful if you could help us with a problem that we are having with our laptops at home. Let me to explain you, my wife have his own laptop at home, as I have mine laptop too, both of the computers share a wi-fi internet conection. I'm not sure of what's going on but the internet conection it's extremely slowly, sometimes when we reboot our laptops there is no internet conection. According to our ISP there's no problem with the internet conection, they said it could be something with the laptops.

Now, It's true that the two laptops are more slowly, specially my wife's laptop, it takes too long for any processes, I always take a look to the running processes and it seems like there are too much process always but I'm not sure of what is good and whats isn't.

I decided to attach The HiJack log from my wife's laptop, maybe with this you could help us to figure out what's going on.

Thanks for your time!

Answer:Computer runs erratically - shutsdown, freezes, runs slow, fails to post

Hi

Welcome to the bleeping computer forum

Unfortunately, intermittent issues are one of the difficult fault to troubleshoot. Please follow the below steps to collect some basic info about your system.

1 ) Generate a report about your system using Speccy by reading the guide below.

   http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/323892/publish-a-snapshot-using-speccy/

Post the web link displayed by Speccy in next reply.

2 ) Download and run Minitoolbox from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/

Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.

-List last 10 Event viewer errors
    -List installed programs
    -List devices
-List users, partition and memory size

Now click "Go" and post the output in next reply

After reading your logs, either me or any other forum volunteer will assist to you to diagnose the issue.

Edit:

Don't ever use the registry cleaning function in CCleaner or Glary utilities. Only use them to clean the temp files. Using registry cleaners may cause unpredictable damage to the registry. If anyone properly knows which registry keys are garbage, that is only Microsoft.

Some kind of trojan invaded my computer I believe. I ran Symantec and it deleted a bunch of entries but the auto-protect kept popping up to block something labeled Downloader and file "kernel32.exe" I was eventually able to delete it in safe mode after turning off the system restore. But then the auto-protect kept blocking Adware.Webbuying with file name qmlqrib.dll (both of these were in system32 folder according to the log), but there was no file by that name anywhere. I ran Ad-Aware which removed two entries with a level 10 threat assessment named BookedSpace and Win32.TrojanClicker, however the Adware.Webbuying continued to be blocked by Symantec. I then ran Spybot which found and deleted numerous entries and I no longer get auto-protect for Adware.Webbuying. However, I continue to get pop-ups, internet is slower, computer is slower, and it seems to prevent downloads after a certain point in time (haven't made it past 20% of a file from various different sites ranging from 4-20 MB). Who knows what else it is doing; hopefully not downloading my personal data. Please lend me a hand if you can. Thanks. I have included my HijackThis log:

I'm running Windows XP with an AMD Sempron 2.0 ghz Processor with 700MB Ram.

Firefox takes up all this computer power(I know that this is more common with the updated Firefox's but in my case it's still to an extreme). Firefox will stay open after I close it and I will have to use Windows Task Manager to fully close. I've switched to Google Chrome and it is quicker.

Any Java usage slows the computer down incredibly. Even in Chrome it's slow. I can't switch between programs nearly as smoothly as before. Basically everything takes forever now and my computer seems to strain under the workload of what use to be basic usage.

I found two Trojans with Kaspersky Trial scan and I thought that fixed the problem(I eventually got rid of Kaspersky because it was making my slow computer even slower.) Unfortunately I never wrote down their names because my parent dropped me on my head frequently when I was a child.

I've run all the scans and nothing has come up(to my basic and infantile computer knowledge). One problem with the scans was the MGtools would open briefly and the window would only just flash and then dissapear and nothing would run. I blame mostly Jesus for this but Buddha in his infinite wisdom and humbleness has also taken some of the blame.

If you people could help me out that would be great.

Until yesterday both my computers had been working quite well.

Yesterday one of them became very slow on the internet.

Both machines have IE8, Chrome and Firefox. All three browsers on the affected machine are slow to connect to the default Google page and to any subsequent pages I connect to.

Belarc's system details of the affected machine are in the attached jpg.

My i.s.p's (TalkTalk) on-line speed measurements made yesterday evening were about 4Mb/s download, and a little less than a 10th of that upload.
Measured this afternoon they were 1.5Mb/s download and about a 10th of that figure for upload.

The router speed is 12.9Mb/s

Figures for the unaffected machine (Shuttle) measured this afternoon were 10Mb/s download and 790kb/s upload.

Router speed 12.9Mb/s

The affected machine connects to the router over a l.a.n. through the a.c. supply. The icons for the l.a.n. say that its speed is 100Mb/s.

All applications on the affected machine (H.P.) seem to be working fine.

The other machine connected to the router with an ethernet cable and is working normally. Nothing untoward noticed.

I have run Maware Byte's free program and Spybot Search and Destroy Nothing found.

And ESET's on-line scanner, Trend Micro's HouseCall and Panda's on-line scanners found nothing nasty either.

So, the problem is very slow internet activity on either of the three browsers on only one of the machines.

Can anyone ... Read more

Answer:Slow internet but applications seem ok.

Just off the top of my head:

Have you tried changing the patch cord between your PC and the powerline adapter? (this was the culprit with a friends set up)

Resetting the adapter and if no joy then moving it to another outlet are things I'd try as well.

Have you aquired any new electrical equipment, or moved any equipment that might be causing the adapter interference?

sorry, if this not the right place please move. I did many google searches cant seem to find the issue Im having, or maybe lack of the right key searches. You guys are my last hope.
I will try to explain my problem as clearly as I can. And so sorry about my bad grammar and spelling, trying to post this asap.

first off give small history of my PC. I bought my PC new Sept 2001. A HP Pavilion with 1.3 ghz, 256ram, and a 55gig hard-drive originally came with WinMe, since then I upgraded to XP. I kept my PC case clean, didn't try to install programs my PC couldn't handle, didn't go to any sites that knew were bad with viruses and such also had Malwareytes/spybot/avast/hijackthis to use, didnt install any toolbars, and tried not to have many programs open at the same time. I basically kept my PC simple with use.

Anyways around June I noticed some odd slowdowns
While playing Winamp and running a torrent with speeds of more than 400+ the audio would become choppy. This also happen when I would open FF, IE or any program while running Winamp, the audio would be choppy.

Extracting 700mb files from Winrar would take around 8mins

Playing Youtube, WMP, of VLC videos would be slow and choppy.

Transferring files from one PC to another over a crossover cable would take much longer. 4gigs of files would take about 20mins or so.

Virus scanners, Avast, Malwarebytes, and Spybot would also take much longer than usual.

Ok I recently noticed that my computer is taking longer to load and also it lags when running programs. In addition, I noticed that my internet was slow. I use Yahoo DSL.

I defraged my hard drive with Auslogics Disk Defrag and it did not speed anything up. I did a adaware and spybot scan. And it did not help. So I decided to come here.

Following the steps, I ran an activescan and it found only 1 trojan that could explain my slow internet problem (hxxp://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/security-info/about-malware/encyclopedia/overview.aspx?idvirus=143883]). It was removed. I always had IE-SQUAD and Spyware blaster enabled and up to date. And I did my windows update. I am running Win XP SP2, not SP3, since there were a few things my computer cannot do that I need on SP3.

But my computer is still running slow and "locks up" briefly. If anyone can help, I would be very thankful. Thank you!

My problem is that my internet connection is pretty slow on my main computer. It's an older (6 years) Dell. I'm still running XP and IE7. I have Comcast cable and it's connected through a Linksys modem. The problem is that the internet response on this machine is pretty slow. I have a laptop that I use and that is much better. I would figure that my "main" computer would be faster since it has a hard connection, not wireless.

I know that isn't much info so ask away and I do what I can to provide all the info needed.

Thanks!!!!!!

Jon

I have quite a bit of computer experience as a tech for an isp. I also have 2 computer science degrees, but I am stumped on this one. I have asked everyone I know what to do for this issue and no one can give me any help. It has been going on for months and I have run many virus/spyware scans, including aol virus and spyware powered by mcafee, a squared, spybot, adaware, windows defender, system suite, spyware blaster, spyware guard, and trend micro house call. I have also ran many registry fixers and nothing has helped.

The main issue is that as soon as I connect to the internet, it takes about 10 minutes for me to be able to do anything. Before the connection is established, the system is normal. After connecting, I can't open any programs, or even task manager or control panel. After about 10 minutes, everything opens and seems to run normal, but still a bit slow. If I disconnect and try to log off or shut down while waiting for IE to open, it freezes the computer and I have to manually shut down. I do go through the task manager and shut down everything that I can before signing on to the internet and it does not make any difference.

I ran a scan with Hijack This and the logfile is below....

Answer:Runs SLOW, especially right after internet connection

Just happened to me - you need to rollback your Ethernet drivers.

Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager

Expand 'Network Adapters', and it's probably a Realtek driver (mine says 'Realtek RTL8193 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC'). Double-click on it, go to the Driver tab, and click 'Roll Back Driver'. If it says there's no backup, then it's at the original driver and it should be fine. If it doesn't, then it'll change back to an older version of the drivers and you'll see your router disconnect and reconnect again.

Everything should be working now... enjoy.

Extreme novice seeks patient geek to walk me through diagnosing and improving internet access. Able to speek plain language a must!

About the system: We have a new Dell System 8300 with lots of unused space. Unused space 66.38% to 90.74%. Memory on both Channel A&B 512MB. Intel Pentium processor with a speed of 3.0 GHz. Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection (Network Card) the Display adapter has 128MB. The modem is mode lBCM V.92 56K Modem. Microsoft Windows XP Professional. (All this I pass on to you without knowing much of what it's useful for)

Main Problem: Everything accessed on the internet comes and goes much slower than usual. Hard to say when it started. Perhaps 3 weeks ago.

Other Stuff: Curious what the "about:blank" address that comes up when I go into the internet has to do with my slow computer. Also, around the same time we noticed the fan runs at odd times and more frequently than it used to. Probably unrelated problem is my missing photos. I just learned how to download them from the digital camera the first week of July. Played with them. Printed a few out. Now I can't find them in any of our files.

HERES THE GOOD AND THE BAD:
We have five log-ons for our family.
Most sites we go to are very popular. Amazon, Noggin, Music Match but we've all tried the odd link that were not so reputable. What did you say about porn not being free and the puple guy not being worth downloading?

Answer:Computer runs slow sometimes

hello ,

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

also

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

http://www.helpwithwindows.com/Windo...p2-bootcd.html

now if you do have the Windows XP cd with sp2 please follow these steps

Answer:Computer runs very slow

What I usually do in this case is "msconfig" and disable all my "startup" programs that I dont need and maybe even some services that arent "microsoft". Try that then reboot and add the programs 1 by 1 rebooting after each to find the culprit program/service.

In case you dont know how to "msconfig" all you do is:

1)click start
2)click run
3)type " msconfig " without the quotes
4)uncheck unwanted programs/services from the "startup and services" tab.

It takes up to 15 minutes to start up when you first turn it on. Often takes up to 20 seconds for programs to come up when you hit start. Virtually all software programs take time to come up, even little ones like Notepad. Have lots of slowdowns and freeze ups when using the internet, including trying to type in url's. Anytime the computer isn't in use for a little while, starting up again is always very slow with frequent little freeze ups. Lately, even when we first turn the computer on, we get a low on virtual memory warning in the lower right corner. Somebody told me this could be the problem. If so, why would it need more memory now than in the past when it worked ok? We actually deleted lots of files and some software programs not be used, including video games.

We used Spybot, Malwarebytes and our anti virus program a few days back and all 3 came up with no problems.

Thanks.

Hi
My laptop has all of a sudden become incredibly slow. I did not install or remove any soft- or hardware before this, it just happened. I have since cleaned the registry, defrag'd, ran SuperAntiSpyware, did and undid several system restores, and updated Firefox. I restarted the computer in "safe mode" several times. I even tried to disable all but the essentials in the startup window of the System Configuration Utility and disabled/re-enabled everything under the "services" tab. On a previous computer I had a problem with restore points keeping bad information, so I decided to delete all restore points when there was no improvement after going back over a month for a clean running machine. I'm at a loss as to what to try next. I hpe you have some suggestions. The HT log is attached. Thanks!

Answer:Computer runs very slow

it may be a lack of ram (virtual memory) getting more will help speed up the processes.
It may also be advisable to re-install windows after backing up if windows fix's fails...

Question: Computer Runs Slow

Windows XP Home Edition OS, Plenty of RAM.

My son will be returning from Iraq soon, I have been using his computer to stay in touch with him. I have noticed it is running real slow now, Yahoo Messenger(latest version) freezes sometimes. Is there a checklist or some type of guide to follow for "tweaking" everything to speed it up, besides the usal, Defrag, Scan Disk, AdAware, SpyBot, etc. Can someone please help this disabled combat veteran help speed up my sons computer? Thank You.
