Form of Malware logging into my accounts

Question: Form of Malware logging into my accounts

Hey Bleeping Computer,

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit.
Someone logged into a few of my game accounts last night while I was sleeping which in turn got my accounts locked. The games were World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic. I received emails stating that unauthorized persons logged into all 3 accounts. And each account has a different Email and Password. I am not sure if they logged into any of my other emails or anything since I haven't received any warnings from anyone.

My computer has been running well, but for the past week or so my browsers have been a little slower than usual. I use Mozilla mostly, but I tested IE as well and it was slow too. Also, every 20 minutes or so, my desktop icons refresh, and if I'm on a webpage, it does the same. I'm not sure how to word it exactly, it doesn't actually "Refresh as in F5" but it (blips)or reloads if that makes any sense.
When I woke up and found out my accounts were logged into from elsewhere, I immediately ran an Avast(Free) full scan, followed by a boot scan and the results came up clean. I then ran Spybot S&D, and again, the results came up clean. After that I ran Malwarebytes(Pro) and they came up clean as well. Then I ran all 3 in safe mode but got the same clean results.

I generally keep my computer pretty well maintained since I play a lot of games. Which includes defragging every night before I shut it off, running Avast and Spybot once a week, and using CCleaner. Just wondering how I got whatever I got, and how to get rid of it since it's not popping up.

Any help or just tips would be appreciated, since I just can't seem to find out what I'm infected with.

Thanks everyone.
Edit: I will be checking back every once in a while so I can ensure I will be able to respond in a timely matter.

Preferred Solution: Form of Malware logging into my accounts

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use Windows 7, Outlook 2007 and a spam checking program - Mailwasher. I have started to get some weird behaviour in the past few months both on an older BT router and my newer one - a mark 4 BT Hub.
When the computer first starts access to my e-mail accounts - two business ones hosted by gmail and several personal ones hosted by 1and1 with domain name www.gandv.co.uk is normally achieved. However, I often get an error message from Mailwasher for one account and for both of the gmail accounts - all of which use SSL when accessing after the initial start up. The port number is correct 997 and other settings are as required (one was even set remotely by 1and1). The error message I am getting with Outlook is that my login details are not recognised for SSL. Trying a second or third time to download often cures the problem (particularly if I just try a single account), as does re-starting the computer but this is becoming very inconvenient.
I have tried to 'repair' Outlook and have also installed the latest drivers for my network adapter and plugged the cable into a different socket. Has anyone any other idea of what I can do to overcome this?

Answer:logging in to SSL email accounts

Sorry mistyped the port - should be 995.

This is a computer at our business and when we try to log into almost any site the login part of the screen tell us that the site is updating information and asks us for full name, mother's maiden name, credit card info and pin, and a lot of other information. We can get into all of these accounts fine from home. We know better than to put any of this information in but now we cannot get to any of these sites from this computer to do business.
We are running Windows XP. We do not have a windows disk or boot disk. (My husband wants to just erase everything and reinstall but he cannot find the windows XP disk and the comp will not handle Seven.) We have tried several anti virus/adware programs and have found and fixed some problems but nothing seems to help this problem. I did not write down any of the names of the offending buggies that we found. (Sorry) I have tried searching online for information about this but have not been able to pull up anything. I appreciate any help that you can give us. Please let me know if I forgot anything or need to post more information.

Thanks Ginger

I posted a question some months ago but did not get any help. My problem is that except after immediately starting/re-starting my machine trying to log in to accounts that use SSL causes time out errors. I have tried to extend the time limit with no success. It only happens on one machine - i.e. my laptop through the same router has no problems, just my main PC.
Sometimes after trying three or four times it suddenly connects. I normally call in six accounts (all SSL) and it doesn't matter whether I do all 6 or just one, the problem occurs but more on gmail based accounts than the others.
Any suggestions?

Answer:can't switch user accounts without logging off.

It's called "Fast user switching" and is probably under the user accounts icon in your control panel. I am at work right now so I can't give you a step by step since my system administrator has me locked out.

Hello everyone, this is my first post here; now seems like as good a time as any to start.

The problem I'm having is, essentially, that I can't log in to any of my user accounts. My computer will load to the screen where the accounts are displayed, but when I click on any of them it will load for a moment, then go back to the same screen. It won't prompt me to enter a password; it just seems to be stuck in a loop. I haven't been able to find anything on the internet that specifically addresses this issue. I hope I described it in enough detail.
If it helps any, I'm using a Dell Latitude D620 laptop.

I have one hotmail account that is for personal use. Then I have a different hotmail account, with a different address and password, for business use. When I get up in the morning and log in to my personal hotmail, and then log out, and try to go to my work hotmail, I cannot.
It says:
Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later.
This is extremely frustrating. So far, all I can tell is that Windows 10 has added more junk to my computer that I don't want on there, and more problems.

Good Afternoon everyone. I'm new to the forum and I am in need of some help. I'm working on a Dell XPS computer that has Windows XP Media Center installed. I believe it has the av2009 spyware on it but I can't do anything with it unless I'm in safe mode as administrator. When I log in with one of the other three accounts, the computer just freezes shortly after logging in. I'm currently running Microsoft's Onecare online scanner. I have downloaded Spyhunter but when I try to update the definition file it tells me that I don't have a network connection. The owner of the computer bought a copy of PC-Chillen from Trend Micro but when I try to run it in safe mode I get errors saying that there's no network connection. I am able to get to Microsoft's site and other sites in safe mode but I can't get to TrendMicro site or CA. Is there a removal tool for av2009.exe.

I'm sure it's more wrong with it but I did see that icon on the desktop.

Answer:User Accounts Lock Up After Logging In

Please print out and follow these instructions: "How to use SDFix". When using this tool, you must use the Administrator's account or an account with "Administrative rights"Disconnect from the Internet and temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any real time protection programs before performing a scan. When done, the SDFix report log will open in notepad and automatically be saved in the SDFix folder as Report.txt.If SDFix is unable to run after rebooting from Safe Mode, run SDFix in either Mode, and type F, then press Enter for it to finish the final stage and produce the report. Please copy and paste the contents of Report.txt in your next reply.Be sure to re-enable you anti-virus and and other security programs before connecting to the Internet. If you cannot download with Safe Mode with Networking, you may need to download from another computer, save to a usb stick or cd and transfer to the infected computer.

Hi, the other day I installed some stuff for my new printer, and everything seemed to go fine. However, I'm not sure if it was from this the installation, or what, but all of a sudden, it asks what user to log on at startup. It never used to ask what user should log on before this, but now, mysteriously does. Anywho, not a huge problem, but can someone tell me how to turn this logon at startup off, as I am the only one who ever logs on? Thanks!

Hey All,

I have several Yahoo Mail accounts, but the oldest one that I have is about 7 years old and sometimes I have to log in 2-3x before my user-name and password are accepted and I can get to the log in screen for my mail. (It says that the user-name/password may be incorrect, and gives the Hints.) Well, most of Yahoo's help pages seem to be for people who recently fell off the banana truck! My computer experience is above average. I can tell you that this behavior DOES NOT occur with my other Yahoo Mail accounts, which are newer. I estimate that 30% of the time, I can log in on the first attempt, 60% of the time on the second attempt, and maybe 10% of the time after the 3rd attempt I have to close the browser and restart. (If you get a failed log in after 5 attempts, your account is locked by Yahoo for 12 hours. Since I don't want that to happen, I close out after the 3rd failed log in.)

Yea, Yea, I cleared out my cache, cookies, temp files, and all that stuff. It doesn't seem to help. Since this problem is not affecting my other Yahoo e-mail accounts I don't think this is a cookie or cache related issue. Oh yea, the same thing happens on this older account whether I am using IE 7 or Firefox 2. I sent the typical forum response to "Yahoo Customer Care??!" So we will see how many pre-typed form answers I get back before I talk to a live person. I'll bet whatever it is, that the issue is on their end. I had mentioned in my response that... Read more

I am having trouble logging into other Windows 10 computers with local accounts.
I tested
1. logging with a Microsoft account (i.e [email protected]) and that worked just fine. I also tested
2. logging into a local account hosted on a Windows 7 machine and that worked.
3. Using a Windows 7 machine and my phone I was able to log into a Windows 10 Local account.

Only logging into local Win10 accounts from other Win10 machines doesn't work. It says that the username or password is wrong.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

ive been having a problem where say, im logged on as a current user then i go to switch user, and log onto another account.. sometimes if they sign off then i go back to log onto my own user account my whole computer will go weird, you know what the computer looks like in safe mode right? the screen size goes to 600x800 or something, right? well when i log back on sometimes ill come back to see my screen get huge and all my colors will look dull, almost like its running 16bit maybe? so ill log off or whatever and it will continue to stay like that, only way to get it to stop is if i were to restart the system.

the first time this ever happened was a few months ago. i ended up losing my desktop background, but the weird thing is, when i FIRST log on, or when i JUST log off (when no desktop icons are on the desktop yet) it will be there but the very second the desktop icons come on it'll disappear

anyone know why its doing this?

I have two user accounts on my PC, one for me and another for my family, both are password/PIN protected. I installed the fall creators update the day it was released. Since then, whenever I start my PC from complete shutdown state and login to my account, it automatically logs into the Family account in background. Every time I try to shut down the pc, a message pops up saying Someone else is using the PC, they could lose unsaved work. The users tab in task manager shows the family account logged in but disconnected. Just as it would show if I actually logged in to that account and switched to my account. I don't know if it's a feature or something. I really want to stop this. Please share any information on this issue. Thanks!

First of all Im running a dell computer with Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed on it.

Of late, whenever I try to run the computer in normal mode it crashes or freezes up and goes to a blue screen error message which says something along the lines of DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. Currently I am running my computer in Safe Mode with Networking. I didn't install any new hardware or software prior to this error message, so I have no idea what is causing it. (Could it be malware?)

I also think that my computer is infected with something. I have done multiple scans using windows defender yet it doesn't come up with any viruses. Normally in the past Spybot Search & Destory has been most effective in removing malware, but whenever I right click the Spybot Search & Destroy icon in the system tray and select RUN nothing happens.
I don't know if I have malware that is blocking the program from opening.

In the past, I had malware called AntiSpyCheck installed on the system, which I thought I completely removed with SS&D. This appears not to be the case, as the other day SS&D came up with a Registry change warning, and the path of the program that was altering the registry was C:\\Program Files\ASpyC\.

My system started having problems shortly after the download of a Torrent from TPB. I use the BitTorrent client, and prior to the torrent that I downloaded the system was running perfectly fine.

I appear to have the typical redirect virus, although this one appears to be very subtle. I can use google search with no problems, and I am redirected only occasionally to websites such as "askthecrew.net" and some search engine called "sour". Nonetheless, I am being redirected by something and want it gone for obvious security reasons. Mostly hits me on Tumblr.com, but I'm fairly sure that's just because I'm on there often.

I have windows 7 64 bit, and have attempted to use malwarebytes, Microsoft sec. essentials, AVG, and Ad-Aware. None have been successful.
I'll post logs of whatever you want, just tell me.

Thanks for whatever help you guys can provide.

My computer is running fine from what I can tell, but I was going to do a hijackthis log but it would only load, start the scan, and then crash and seemingly uninstall. I figured this might have been a configuration issue with my computer, so i tried using malwarebytes, runscanner, and rsit. All with the same result. AVG, ccleaner, avira, and avast work fine though, but don't come up with anything.Kinda at a loss here as to what might be causing this...hoping you guys could help. Thanks, WillEDIT: I was able to get a combofix log done thanks to some help on another forum..here's that if it helps.ComboFix 09-09-22.02 - Administrator 09/22/2009 20:22.1.4 - NTFSx86Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.3327.2736 [GMT -4:00]Running from: c:\documents and settings\Administrator\Desktop\ComboFix.exeAV: AntiVir Desktop *On-access scanning disabled* (Updated) {AD166499-45F9-482A-A743-FDD3350758C7}AV: avast! antivirus 4.8.1351 [VPS 090922-0] *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {7591DB91-41F0-48A3-B128-1A293FD8233D}AV: AVG Anti-Virus Free *On-access scanning disabled* (Updated) {17DDD097-36FF-435F-9E1B-52D74245D6BF}.((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Other Deletions ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))).C:\HijackThis.exec:\program files\driverc:\windows\msa.exec:\windows\msb.exeInfected copy of c:&... Hi
I have a windows XP laptop and had problems with secure essentials 2010 trojan amongst others. I ran spybot latest version, which said it had fixed the problems but 4 could not be fixed until the laptop was restarted as there was information still in memory. I restarted the laptop but now cannot login at all. It attempts to login but immediately logs off again. A cold boot gives the same result. The trojans etc are -

Hello,

I have recently tried using a oldlatop that was given to me. The first sign of problems, was the laptop unbootable boot volume. I manage to use the recovery option in a xp installtion disk to fix it. Once i boot into the system, the computer was very very sluggish. Startup would take extremly long time. At first i merely attributed this to the bloatware and crappy processor. Then I installed various antispyware and antiviruses programs. Lo and behold, avast caught about 30 malware objects with a boot scan. Malwarebytes caught an additional 3. Superantispyware caught another 3 infections. Lastly Avira caught 2 infections. At this rate. I know that there are still malware on my laptop, which may be regenerating itself, or be stealthed. Anyway if you want these logs, feel free to ask. Thank so much for reading this and here is my hijack this log at the bottom of this post.

Today I attempted to log into my computer and I was unable to. Instead I was getting the following error message, that would appear instead of my log in screen:

lsass.exe System Error

An invalid HANDLE was specified.

After about an hour or two of running scans in safe mode, it finally let me log into my computer, so I did all of these scans outside of safe mode, and posted on this site. I don't know if the error message is going to pop up again or not.

I think this may be some form of malware or virus, but I'm not sure. I've done all of the scans and followed all of the steps in the READ ME FIRST thread, and so far I have come up with no malware, so my system appears clean.

I was wondering if an expert could please take a look at the logs I have to see if there is anything that the programs I have are missing.

If any more logs or information is needed, just let me know.

Thanks for any assistance in advance.

Answer:Possible Malware or Virus is keeping me from logging into my computer.

1. You are running both Avira AntiVir Personal - Free Antivirus and COMODO Internet Security, CIS includes anti virus so you really ought to uninstall either avira or CIS now. You also have remains from avg running as services which we will clean up from.

2. Why did you not run combofix?

3. Please go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the following software:
Java(TM) 6 Update 18

4. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [AntiSpyware Service] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\egdld4l.exe (User 'SYSTEM')

After clicking Fix exit HJT.

5. Delete this now as it is not in the location we specified it to be in anyway.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\MGtools.exe

6. What are the below files?
C:\3451197.exe
C:\3888819.exe

7. Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
Do not change any check box options!!
Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script... Read more

Our system seemed to act strangely beginning in early March. We use ZoneAlarm firewall and it seemed to auotmatically lock on occasion upon log-in, requiring a manual "un-lock" before the internet could be used. I was suspicious there was something trying to get in or out that ZoneAlarm was "catching" and locking the firewall.

To try to detect the problem, I downloaded the latest version of "MalwareBytes" and ran a scan. It found a few issues and I chose to quarantine a few of them, but not all as some looked legitimate to me.

Upon re-booting the next time, everything went bad. A pop-up came up with the windows installer and then it said it was trying to install HPPhotosmartEssential. The system became very sluggish and the hard drive was constantly being accessed. After numerous "Cancels" to the install, it finally stopped trying to install. However, the hard drive continued to be accessed non-stop and the system was very slow. I became very concerned something was going on in the background so I shut the system down.

I tried to re-boot in safe mode and it would not boot, it either hung or gave a disk error suggesting c:\windows\system32\wbem was corrupt or unreadable and chkdsk should be run. I immediately felt I needed to do a system restore back a couple of weeks to clear off the issues. Upon trying to run the restore I received a message that the application failed to start because framedyn.dll was not found and that re-... Read more

Hello.

Im new here, I have been looking for information about 2 applications called "Home Cloud" and "Form1".
When I go to my Alt+TAB menu I can see these applications there, but I cant acces them.
Also in my Task Manager I can see both applications.
I dont know why there are running and how work these applications.
It could be something normal but since im a noob in this things I cant tell if they are not a malware or not.

Can anyone explain me what are these applications for and why their are in my PC?
Can I remove it both or they are some kind of essentials for my PC?

If I close it out then the computer will lock up. I had alot of trouble trying to get gmer.exe to run but was finally able to. The computer also is shutting down and going to a blue screen saying that there is an infection and windows shut down to prevent loss of data.

by Dan Goodin
Microsoft developers have fortified Internet Explorer with new protections designed to prevent a type of attack commonly used to surreptitiously install malware on end-user computers.
The "isolated heap for DOM objects" made its debut with last week's Patch Tuesday. Just as airbags lower the chance of critical injuries in automobile accidents, the new IE protection is designed to significantly lessen the damage attackers can do when exploiting so-called use-after-free flaws in the browser code. As the name suggests, use-after-free bugs are the result of code errors that reference computer memory objects after they have already been purged, or freed, from the operating system heap. Attackers can exploit them by refilling the improperly freed space with malicious code that logs passwords, makes computers part of a botnet, or carries out other nefarious behavior.

OK I've followed all the steps in the 5-step process. Here's the problem, when I'm typing or even just scrolling in the current window of IE it will de-highlight and become inactive. Welcome to TSF.

I don't recommend using file sharing programs like Limewire as they can contribute to malware infections.

Please print the below instructions or copy them to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the order mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Download ATF Cleaner at http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. Under Main choose Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use the Firefox browser click Firefox at the top and choose Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use the Opera browser click 'Opera' at the top and choose 'Select All'
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

Ok, I'm a graphic artist, and use my computer for my work, but other than that, i'm pretty much "out of the loop" on terms, virus names etc...

so a short while ago i switched from firefox, to google chrome. to see what it was like. and while i love the browser, i seem to have acquired some form of virus or malware while using it.

does anybody have any idea firstly, how to get rid of it? because every time Avast says it's been deleted, i'll get a message about 10 minutes later saying "it's back loser" (not those words exactly, but i feel my machine is mocking me...)

and secondly, whether chrome actually has massive security risks? or if it's just coincidence that i've gotten this stuff while using it.

Hello to all the computer techs out there! I've been having a recent problem where all my administrator accounts in Vista 64 bit have been automatically converted to standard user accounts. Does anyone know if there is some kind of malware that does this or is it a problem with Microsoft Vista? I've asked several computer experts and even received some advice on Yahoo. I've tried typing in the command net user administrator/active yes (with no spaces) and access was still denied. In the start prompt, I typed in control userpasswords2 and changed the settings to administrator and it still converted back to standard user. I've also tried booting in safe mode and I was able to use certain programs like Spy bot and AVG to remove certain spyware and viruses in this mode but when I switch back to regular mode under MSCONFIG, my user accounts are still set back to standard user. I've also tried setting up a new account as an administrator but it also converted to standard user. Does anyone know what's going on? I've contacted Microsoft and they say it's malware but many of the computer geek sites are saying that it's Microsoft. Any suggestions?

I have had good luck removing malware from several computers using the "Malware Removal Guide" on this site. (many thanks to the author)

On computers that have several user accounts is it necessary to repeat all the steps on ever user account? This can be very time consuming!

Answer:Malware Removal with multiple user accounts

Each user account has unique registry keys and folders and files. Thus each account that is having problems needs to be cleaned. While some scans may clean common areas of the PC, each individual user account must be logged into and scans must be run to properly find everything related to this user account. Just running in an adminstrator account does not necessarily help you find things in other user accounts.

Thus SAS and MBAM do need to be run on these other accounts. And if help from us is required, the MGtools scan would also have to be run so that we can look at the specific information for the user account in questions.

I have a friend who has 4 machines on a home network. All of them are running XP Pro, and all the users are logged in as Admin. Some of the software they use won't allow access to limited accounts, and that's why they all login as Admin. It doesn't take long for one of the machines to get infected, and it seems as if the infection spreads over the local network and infects all of the machines. Needless to say I get a call for help when this happens, since they think I'm a geek because I use Linux instead of Windows.

I wanted to ask if setting up the accounts as power users, which will allow them access to software that will not accept a limited account, would it keep the infections localized? I have installed malware scanning software on all the machines, as well as a software firewall. It seems to help, but doesn't seem to stop all the viruses and malware.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I would hate to have to tell my friend he's on his own the next time a bug gets into his network, but its costing me too much time when this happens.

Answer:Can Malware be slowed or stopped using Power User accounts

Basically, the answer is no. The question would be the surfing habits of the user. You may wish to refer them to this:

I'm helping clean up a system for a computer illiterate friend, and they have 6 user accounts on this thing!! The ironic thing, though...they all have administrator privilages. Still though...doing something in one user account, doesn't cover the whole system for some things, which ofcourse is the purpose of user accounts. However...can you not get into the MAIN administrator account that will act as the entire system!?!?!

I know when you go into Safe Mode, you get an "Administrator" option, but not in regular mode. The reason I bring up this issue...when I try to do some things in safe mode ((ONE example would be running the panda online scan)) the resolution is so big that you can't see/access half of the necessary needs!! Also, when in regular mode...I download something while in a specific user account, and tell it to download to a specific spot using the drop down tree...the stinkin thing is absolutely NOWHERE...even using the search feature to search the entire c: drive!!

The real buggar....the guy set a password on the main administrator account ALONG (( 3years)) time ago and can't remember it...so does anyone know of a free piece of software that can reslove this issue?? I think I found one, but I want to see what you think!! I know you can do repeir installs, or system restore, etc., but he was hoping to resolve this with just a symple ethical (ofcourse) hacker, or registry edit or something to that effect!?!?

For true cleaning purposes you must login to each user account separately.

If you do not download programs/files to proper folders (like we indicate in the READ ME), they are not available in other user accounts. This is one reason why we complain about not having HJT on the Desktop or in C:\Documents and Settings. Hello,
Today I discovered strange account names on my laptop after trying to open files on one of my drives which also had strange names and were not mine. I suspect my laptop is infected with some kind of malware but unfortunately all scans (malwarebytes, f-secure, hitmanpro,..)do not flag up a specific threat.
I attach a printscreen:

The above two windows indicate the useraccounts (see top two) with content of one of them (top right). The down-left window indicates the files I tried to open and which may have installed some malware an created these accounts (not sure however if they were there already before).
Furthermore each time I try to delete the random named folders-files on drive D (bottom left window of the printscreen), they re-appear with different names...

I did not try to remove the useer accounts yet and have no idea how I safely could.
Please help.
Kind regards
Stef

Hi,

I was targeted by the internet security 2010 malware virus yesterday. I immediately recognised it as a threat and ran my spybot search and destroy program to try and eradicate it. I also ran an AVG serch of the system. HOwever all that this seems to have done, is to make it impossble to log in to any profile as when u log in, its logs straight back out again.

I have read a lot of forums today and realise that this is a fairly common symptom of this virus but i can not get round it. I did reboot in safe mode earlier today and ran another virus search using AVG in safe mode, but this has had little effect. Indeed i can now no longer start up in any sort of safe mode as the same cycle of login/ log out happens with those as well.

While in safe mode i had a look around various folders to try and see any suspect folders, and found one that had the same name as one prescribed on one of the forums i read; the folder was called smss32.exe. I tried to delete this file but was prohibbited from doin so as i think it said that i did not have access.

I have read in some of the forums about making a Bart preinstalled environment CD in order to get passed the login problem, but i have hit a snag with this as well and can not burn the cd using my uninfected laptop.

I am new to this site and my knowledge of the detailed working of computers is limited and so apologise if the information seems incomplete, but would be very greatful if you could assist with this problem.

I have a windows 7 laptop and over the past month or so I've been noticing some pretty slow performance, especially when browsing the internet. It seems to be running more slowly than it ever has. I've also noticed that the CPU light seems to be "blinking" almost continuously, even when I haven't been doing anything on the computer for a couple minutes. This never used to be the case.

In addition, several of my credit card accounts have been comprimised over the past few months, the most recent one being today where one of my online accounts was hacked. It's making me wonder if I have some sort of malware on my computer that's comprimising my security.

I run Malwarebytes, and until about two weeks ago, McAfee virus. I upgraded to Windows 10 a couple weeks ago hoping that may make things better but it didn't. The upgrade made me delete McAfee and casued some other driver issues with my laptop. After a day or so I reverted back to Windows 7 by rolling back the Windows 10 update.

The last time I ran Malwarebytes (~two weeks ago) and McAfee (~a month ago) it didn't find any significant issues.

Suggestions or guidance on how to verify my computer isn't infected with malware, and how improve its performance overall would be greatly apprecaited.

Friends
I have looked through the autosearch threads for this topic but found none with in-depth responses.

In many, perhaps 90% of small business installations, we're dealing with multiple user accounts under the various MS Windows OS's [as well as others].
My question is this: in trying to defend-against malicious ware, programs, emails, etc, and in trying to remedy systems that have already been compromised, what are the best practices with regard to multiple users on one machine????
An effective trojan of modernity can so compromise a single user account that its difficult to even deal with the issue. So I, like others, will go safe-mode through administrator or little-used auxiliary accounts created for the purpose. But how effective is this?

so, it would be great if somone could augment the very effective "sticky" items here with this critical information which seems missing from these otherwise effective tutorials.

I sent to look at my Sent Items tonight and to my surprise I saw another email apparently sent yesterday that I definitely didn't send.

I was astonished to find this as I have just upgraded to Vista in the last 2 days and have sent minimal emails.

The subject is "Form posted from Microsoft Internet Explorer." & is sent to a Hotmail account. The attachment is a POSTDATA.ATT. When I look at this file in txt format it has info such as one of my email addresses, my website & description - as if I had filled out a web form & pressed Submit.

Now, thinking about it, shouldn't IE let you know that it is about to send data?

One strange thing is that the email is dated yesterday evening in the Sent list, but when I open the email to view it, it will always have the current date & time - seemingly from the Windows clock.

I am thinking that either

1) this is due to a bug in the new IE & yesterday I visited a website which submitted data via email without my knowledge or

2) this email is an old email that I Imported from backed up email (PST format) from a form I ACTUALLY sent that Internet Mail has redated - maybe something went

Sorry for the long post but I'm just wary, hope it makes sense! I was liking Windows Vista so far!

Answer:Sent Items: Form posted from Microsoft Internet Explorer. - I didnt submit any form!

I have moved this to vista forum as I believe it is more likely to be a vista live mail issue

Hi All,

Noob first-time poster I'm afraid!

I'm new to Access 2007 (but have used 2003 & 2000 reasonably extensively).

I'm building an App and have created all the necessary tables, as well as creating the relationships in the Database Tools area (which I know are correct - I'm a SQL Server DBA in my day job)!

Anyway, it's an almost text book example of an employers and employees database; one employer having many employees (employerID is the foreign key on the employee table).

I have created an employer form (using the wizard) which is fine, but then when I add a button to open the employee form (selecting 'Open the form and find specific records', matching employerID on the Employer table with EmployerID on the Employee table) it doesnt work. Instead, I get a popup box asking me for the EmployerID! Even if I manually enter the correct employerID when the popup box appears it actually displays all records, so I'm sure that the problem is more fundamental (and therefore, probably my fault)!

I'm hoping that I've just overlooked something REALLY stupid, but would apprecaite any suggestions!

Cheers,
Ian.

Answer:Access 2007 Form Button Wizard - Form does not open with the correct records

I have seen this kind of problem with Access 2007 VBA code which does not work when it dod in 2000-2003.
It can be a Syntax problem which you may be able to get around, if not you can get around the problem bby using a Criteria in the Query that supplies the Employee Form.
Although I would have thought it would be better design wise to have the Employees as a Subform or Tabbed Subform on your Employer Mainform.
I do not have Access 2007, only 2003 so I can't help with the VBA, but you could post the code anyway.

Did you use a Wizard to create the Employee Form, if so check the Record Source SQL it may be preventing your EmployerID from working.

Hi all

I have a simple Access (2003) db which has a single form view with a subform. The main form is a record based upon a physical case file the subform only details actions past and future, a sort of event log.

I also have a continuous form which displays all upcoming actions sorted by date on all cases for a particular user so they can see just how busy they are likely to be for a particular period. What I would like to do is have an on click() property for the detail of the continuous form so that it opens the main form filtered by the record in the continuous form that was clicked. User can then update or add new events for that case before closing form and returning to the continuous form

Hope this makes sense

Answer:MS access open single form filtered by selected record in continuous form

coasterman, welcome to the Forum.
It makes perfect sense.
If you add a Command Button to the Continuous Form and after selecting the mainform select the "Open the Form and find specific data to display". This will give you the code that you need to add to your On Click or On Double Click property or of course leave the button and use that.

Hi all. I do have another post going but do not want to cram so many questions in one post. (Hope that this is an acceptable practice )Anyway, my Sony desktop crashed the other day. I had a new Hard Drive installed and recovery disks were used. PC is good to go. Trying to tweek it back to the way I am used to having it.QUESTION:I had a form filler program called ROBOFORM on this PC before it crashed. I had MANY years of passwords and stuff saved there. When I brought this PC to the Geek Squad at Best Buy the other day to see if the PC could be repaired, I was told the hard drive went. They were, however, able to make a disk with my ROBOFORM passwords. I can not get the disc to open the list of passwords. It asks me where I want to open the and give me a list of choices. (Paint, notepad, adobe etc.) None of them will run/open the files so I can see them. This was a program that I paid for. How can I make the disc start to fill my forms again when I am at certain sites? (Gee, hope I am making sense)I just realized I never downloaded the ROBOFORM program onto this pc.  Does that have anything to do with the disc not opening??If I go and download ROBOFORM, how does it know who I am. How will it know about the disc full of passwords? How do they recognize each other?HELP PLEASE..........My Passwords are VERY important to me.Thanks!!

Hello,
thanks for taking a look at this thread, any help will be greatly appreciated by a complete Noob.

I've been given a LOT of help by members of this Forum (especially OBP) with a DB I'm making as a first look at any type of IT product, and I'm very grateful, so thank you all.

Recently, I was advised to take a look at the "Tabbed" style of "MainForm" instead of the "Switchboard" style I originally used. I must say, I really like the tabbed style much more than the switchboard but I've hit one hurdle that I can't seem to overcome.

In the Switchboard style, I was able to set a form to load in either DATA ENTRY = YES or DATA ENTRY = NO mode depending on which sub-switchboard the user selected. For example, I had a ENTER NEW sub-switchboard that all forms would open in DATA ENTRY = YES mode & I had another EDIT EXISTING sub-switchboard that all forms would open in DATA ENTRY = NO mode.

However, with the new tabbed style, I cannot set the form load type for separate tabbs, it will only accept the LAST type as the GLOBAL type. Example, on the ENTER NEW tab, I set the form to load as DATA ENTRY = YES & sets the form to open in DATA ENTRY = YES on both tabs, then I go to the EDIT EXISTING tab & set the same form to DATA ENTRY = NO & it sets the form to open in both tabs in DATA ENTRY = NO mode.

So, my question is:
Can I set the same form to load differently on different tabs on the same MainForm?

Answer:Solved: MS Access - Tabbed MainForm - How to make a form open a form in multiple mode

I would just copy the Subform, so you have version 1 for data entry with the Data Entry set to "Yes" and version 2 set to "No".
The only thing you need to do then is to Requery the Editing form each time you make an entry in the data entry form.
Although I prefer to just have an Edit form with a "New Record" button for the data entry.

My multi item form isn't letting me add new records, only update and delete current ones.

My guess it that this is because the form is based on a multi-table query. That's fine, I can make a new form specifically for adding new records, but I'd like to be able to salvage this form if possible. Is there any way to either force this form to accept new records in the bottom row, or is there any way to get rid of the "add record" bottom row completely so it's not misleading users into thinking they can add records here?

Thanks in advance.

I have a database which ultimately will have a couple of thousand records. The primary table has 30+ fields. I have lots of queries and connected reports to show various subsets of the data needed from the table. However, there are times when what is needed is all fields for a specific subset. Because the records sought often need to be filtered by several criteria, I've found the "Filter by Form" option to work well. I have a button on the main dashboard marked "Find Record" that automatically opens a search form in the "Filter by Form" mode. This allows me to enter information into as many controls as necessary, and returns exactly the right records after clicking on "Toggle Filters" on the ribbon. The problem is that ultimately I need to make this "Access-free". The goal is to create an application from the database without ribbons. I've created a button to run the filter, and another one to print the results, but when the search form is open in the "Filter by Form" mode, it greys out the buttons. I understand that there is a GotFocus command or something similar. Can anyone help with specifics, both the syntax of the command and where the command needs to be typed? Thanks a bunch...I look forward to your reply.

Hello

I have a subform which on its own - works beautifully but fails under the mainform. I use a main form to select the record that the end user wants to update. Upon update event on main form, the sub form opens, presenting fields for possible updating. The Sub Form also present 2 buttons - Save & Close or Cancel and Close (Undo). When the main form opens, the code set AllowClose as False. When the sub form is opened as a result of the update on the mainform, the issue is the Close command /code gets canceled. (Error 2501). I have tried: 1. setting AllowClose (true and False) on both forms, 2. only the main form and 3. only the subform. None of these 3 configurations resolves the issue. Also, I tried moving the buttons to the mainform instead of the sub form but that failed as well.

The application has a dozen forms and all of them utilize AllowClose functionality so the end user MUST use the buttons on the forms to force background queries (updates, deletes, perform calculations, recalc control totals etc). This is the first time I have tried to use Allow Close on a subform with buttons.

Why not just use a listbox to display the records based on the selection on the main form? I don't think you can actually close a sub-form on a main form since it is tied to the main form.

Morning Guys.

I am having a problem with Access 2007. I am not good with code, so would like to resolve this without using code if possible?

I have a form "A" that I have created. I want to be able to select a row on form "A" press a button and it will open a form "B" based on the selected record in form "A".

I have had a look at the button wizard, and it lets you have the option, but when you go through the wizard, it gives you an empty box on the left and a box on the right showing all the fields in the form "A". Nothing to relate to?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi All,

I need some help to figure out how to do a project.
i was given a sample tax form from the government that i have to re-create in electronic format. I have to build the form to match their specifications exactly. I've tried to do it in MS Word 2003 using a table, but the when i try to ensure that the tables cells are the same size as that on the paper - the tables keeps either changing the dimensions of the cell or changing the dimensions of other table cells.

the major thing is to ensure that the form i build matched that paper sample exactly - for example i cannot be off by even a millimetre.

In addition to that, my company has extracted the tax data for its 400-500 employees into an Excel Spreadsheet. I have to use the excel spreadsheet to make the "form" i created fillable.

The previos analyst used ms word 2003 and created the form using the drawing menu and text boxes and then mail merged the info in the excel sheet to the word doc.

can someone suggest an easier to do this? i wold be grateful for any help i can get.

Regards,
Ariane

Answer:Create Electronic Form to match sample paper form

Ariane,
Welcome to TSG

If I got your meaning correctly, then yes, ther's an easier way.
I'm almost sure that you can create the form in Excel, though setting the exact sizes and positions could be difficult.
I'm absolutely sure that you can create the form in Powerpoint, and with this latter, setting the exact sizes and positions should be much more simple.
Automatically filling the Powerpoint form is also possible.

If you only need to print out the filled forms, or create PDF-s, this Powerpoint-Excel duo might be good for you.
If you need to do further calculations with the filled forms, then I strongly recommend to stick with Excel.

I'm also curious what others can say.

Hello and thanks.
Whenever I power on the computer (Dell w. Vista) it takes me to the log in screen where I am supposed to type my password (or just hit enter if there's no password) in order to log in to Vista. The problem is that it will not accept the password (will not say it is incorrect!), but rather it just stays there as in floating, then the system reboots itself.

Sometimes I'm not so lucky, and the computer reboots before I am able to type anything into the password 'box'.

I tried the disk repair, and to log in from another point in time (system restore), all of that to no avail. On one occasion it gave me a blue screen with the following:
a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. if it appears again follow these steps:

check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed?

if problem continues, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safemode to remove or disable components, restart, press f8 and go to safe mode.

TECHNICAL INFO:
***STOP: 0X0000000A (0XFFFFFFBC, 0X0000001B, 0X00000001, 0X80CB1C14)

Basically I cannot access the computer, not even in safe mode. Any thoughts?

Thanks again!

I am a new user to Access 2010. My operation system is Window 7.
I have created a data base with two tables. The first table contains a list of students and their personal information. The second table contains student subjects and has many subject records with a relationship to the student record. The relationship key is the student id.

I have created a form that populates with the student information and contains a subform that populates with that students subjects. All of this works great for existing students. I can edit the student information and and new subject records.

Now here is my problem. I would like to create a form that preceeds my current form. The user would input a student number and click search button. If that student number exists on the student data base then the form that I created should open populated with the student data and their subjects and allow the user to update it. If the student number does not exist, then I would like that same form (or a form with the same layout) to open and the only data populated is the student number that was input on the search form. The user should be able to input all of the student data and course information and hit a save button that would insert the records into the correct database tables.

I have tried many methods to create the intitial search form that would open the correct version of the student form without any progress. Could someone provide me with the macro that would open that correct form, or set t... Read more

Answer:Access query to open Add form or Edit Form

needaccesshelp, welcome to the Forum.
First a couple of points, you do not need to "save" the record, access does so automatically. Also when creating a New record the subform should be automatically populated with the Student Number, this is controlled by the master child links.

The combo you need is a Find combo which can be created using the combo wizard, that combo can have it's Not In List Property set to yes, which can then be used to trigger adding the student that to the table and then to the form (and combo).

I have this small database I am converting from A97 toA2010. I created a new A2010 db and pulled over objects I needed. Everything is tested out and working fine.
I also added a drop down box to the main switchboard toselect a "user". Its purposeis so the filter through all the records and pull up only the list of drawing #for that specific drafter.
So I have a table called tblSign_In which has UID autonumber, and the employees name. Thiswill be the user names for the drop down of the Main Switchboard.

I have a table called SHEET LIST that list all the data Ineed to display. This will end upholding tens of thousands of records of information about drawing. I added to this table a field called theLogInID field (UID) to link back to the tblSign_IN, and the correct number andcombination.
I also have a query called qrySHEET LIST which selectsall SHEET TABLE and inner joins to thetblSign_IN to pull the Employee Name linking on a LogInID field.

What I was trying to do is filter SHEET LIST form (my outputform) by the user selected on the MAIN SWITCH form in the drop down box Icalled cboSignInEmployeeName.
For example:
Sheet List (tbl) might contain information like: Sheet# 22a6; description Dryer; buildhours:12; drafter #4.

qrySHEET LIST (also my ouptut data) is pulling all theabove, but replace 4 with actual drafter’s name, John Smith.

Mhouser, if you are trying to "display" a value related to the Combo selection you can have thta value as an extra column in the combo and refer to it with simple VBA.
You should not populate a Field's actual value with that from the combo as that is duplication.
Can you tell me which one you are trying to do?

Hi All,

My desktop (running insider preview 16257) was working fine up until yesterday. Then I got a new laptop and proceeded to set it up, including logging in with my MS account. This is the first time I've logged into two machines with the same MS account. Prior to this I always just used a regular local windows account.

Now when i try to log in on my desktop with my Microsoft account, it's pretty much unusable. A weird variety of problems occur.
If i open task manager, it looks like it's showing me the cpu/mem etc usage at the moment I opened task manager, but it does not update. And it does not show me the percentage of usage for each process.

I can't restart the computer. It just sits there apparently doing nothing.

If i try to open a browser window, i get the 'shell' of the window but nothing is in it and it never loads. Same thing happens with most apps - it either wont start, or it starts up and loads up an empty window that never populates.

And this is all tied to my account. Because if i log into my desktop with a local windows account, it works fine. In fact i am logged into it right now typing this. Everything works normally when I am logged in with the local account.

I can only assume this has something to do with my logging in on the new laptop, since it's the first time I've logged into a 2nd machine with that account. Too much of a coincidence for this problem, tied specifically to my account, to happen right after I do that.

What is your computer make and model? We'll have to see if we can get you to the recovery partition, or you could boot from a recovery disk.

If the latter, you would first have to enter the BIOS to set your machine to boot first from a CD/DVD.

But with your make and model, people here can be more specific as to what to do.

Ok guys, I can give a really easy example of this problem I'm having right here on the message board. If I place my cursor in between these two words (this) (that) and then click on a smiley, it SHOULD insert the smiley face in between them. I'll do it now.

See how it put it at the very end of the line? When I'm finished typing this whole thing, I'll try to insert a confused smiley here ( ) .

The same happens for ANY auto-insert stuff, whether it be the hyperlink or the quotes button, anything here. Its annoying . Anyone know how to fix this? No matter where my cursor is, it always inserts the auto-text into the end of the post.

Exit Sub
Else

Hiii everybody,
this is my first ever post in my first forum . That's a disclaimer to ask you guys to forgive me for having very little gray matter :-( .
I have Windows XP HOME SP2 on Intel Celeron 667 MHz and 192MB RAM. I know it doesn't sound like much so I'm always trying to read forums and tweak my settings. But this time, it ended up worse.
I used a program called autoruns.exe to adjust my startup programs so it'll start faster. I'm not sure what I turned off but now
1. It takes longer to start up,
2. I don't see any accounts (not even admin) in Control Panel - User accounts
3. I can access a directory and open files but I can't cut or copy and paste them into another folder.
4. In services.msc, most of the programs under Local with automatic setting don't start and cannot be started. I can't even see the programs under extended.
5. I have a home network but I can't access any of my other computers.
those are a few of laundry list of challenges with my computer (with me ?)
I'm even ready to format and reinstall XP but I need to copy some files before I do that.
I'm sorry for this long post but can you guys help me?

Hi

I'm surprised that nobody else has this problem, but I've searched and can't find an answer...apologies if I've not looked hard enough but I decided to post a question because this is 'urgent' to me.

I had 2 children's accounts in Win 8, and had local Parental Controls. Upgraded OS to Win 10, and now I can't manage Parental Controls in Win 10 locally, so I 'think' I need to set up 'online Profiles' for them.

Got a problem with a Win2K laptop. It had several viruses on it which I manually cleaned off. Now it won't logon in anything but safe mode without imediately logging off again.

It's running safeboot, netware client 4.83, has w2ksp3 and uses InoculateIT v4.53 AV. It was not running the MS security patches, hence the viruses (sigh).

I start it up, enter the safeboot password, get to the netware login prompt, select workstation only, log on as administrator, up comes my profile, desktop, startup sound, back to a safeboot login prompt and round we go again.

If I boot up in safe mode, it lets me in. Safe mode with networking doesn't work either.

The virus executables I manually cleaned off included the usual suspects: REGSVC, ENBIEI, MSLAUGH, EXPLORE, TEEKIDS, WINSVC. I deleted these and the reg keys which activated them.

I've cleaned laptops this way before without any problems, but this one has me stumped. Any ideas?

Oh yes, I can't run the Inoculan AV program to check for any other virii as it gives me a invalid entry point in ICORE.DLL. I've replaced this file with a known good one but it still isn't playing ball.

Help!
