My HP Pavilion shuts down

Question: My HP Pavilion shuts down

Hello everyone,

This happened couple days ago when my laptop started to act like crazy.. It used to freeze but two days ago it shuts down when I'm in the middle of doing something like Photoshop.. It even shut down while posting this thread once..
I thought it'd be a problem with the windows so I installed a fresh one but yet the problem is not solved..
And after some search on internet I came up with some apps like HDD and CPUID Monitor and here's a snapshot of the scan, and I wish someone of TECHSPOT family would help, that'll be so much appreciated..

Thank you.

Preferred Solution: My HP Pavilion shuts down

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a HP Pavilion 6500 that has recently started shutting down for no reason. I have had it completely apart, cleaned and inspected every part. Everything looks good and when I put it back together it worked fine for about 6 hours then shut down again with no warning or error message. When I attempt to restart, it comes on for about 2 seconds and shuts off again. (On battery, battery w/adapter and adapter only) Even when it has sat overnight or for a couple of days and should be completely cool. Someone in another thread mentioned processor protection in the BIOS. How do I check that? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Ram can go bad, i would do a thorough test on the ram.... I use the ultimate Boot CD. It's free and it has some pretty good tests on the cd.

I have a zd 7020 that has performed flawlessly for 2 years until a few weeks ago. It runs hot so I have had it on a notepal by Cooler Master to help out with the heat issues. I also frequently blow out the dust from the internal fans and ports.

Now to the problem.

When using Photoshop CS2 it will just shut off with no warning. I have been using this program since I bought the computer with no problems until recently. I might add that this will also happen when I am surfing the net but very infrequently. The only change that I can recall making recently is removing one of the 256k ram sticks and replacing it with 1gb. That was done about 2 months ago but this problem has just surfaced within 3 weeks. I also have tried running Photoshop from my external drive but encounter the same results.

Thanks for any ideas.

My computer will shut down while idle for awhile. It hasn't done it while I am working with it. But if I leave it for awhile , when I return, it has shut down. I have the door off and have been watching to see if it is a fan issue, but I can't see it shut down so I do not know which fan it is, or both. Everything else is working fine on the computer and all of my programs.

Answer:pavilion dv6258se powers on then shuts down

I can't find the info because I think this is a 2007 laptop.
There were models that had heat problems and as a result of a class action suit, I believe HP replaced parts in quite a few models.

Overheating could have burned out the cpu.

Some notebooks don't work well with a dead/flat battery.
Remove the battery, use the power cord only and see if the symptoms change.

One other thing, reset the RAM. Bad RAM or even mis-seated RAM can cause strange computer behavior.

My month old laptop shuts off (sleep mode) by itself while I am using it. There is no pattern. Sometimes it will be 10 minutes after I open it and sometimes an hour or more. It is not overheating. I have current BIOS. It always shows plenty of battery life (45% or more) when I connect it to power and wake it up. It never happens on AC power, only on battery. The battery tests fine.

hp pavilion zd7140us laptop shuts down instantly when attempting an operation within Adobe PhotoShop. For example, scaling an image causes the computer to instantly turn off. I had a tech add maximum RAM, 2GB, and service pack 3 for xp. Previously I experienced a similar shutdown problem when accessing style settings in AutoDesk Architecture, which was corrected by a tech. What is the fix to prevent the computer from instantly turning off when using PhotoShop?

Answer:hp pavilion zd7140us shuts down using photoshop

Hi chrisparchitect,

I am thinking the problem might be an overheating issue since Adobe Photoshop requires plenty of CPU and RAM work. Try dusting out the computer by getting a compress-air can and blowing it towards the vents of the laptop. See if performing this process alleviates your computer issue, hope everything works out well for you.

Hi!

I'm new to the forum and English is my second language, so please excuse me for any misspelling!

First of all, my 2 year old Hp Pavilion dv5-1153eo laptop freezes after 5-10 minutes running (either if it's on a web-page, desktop, or other programs such as msn etc.). The freeze happens instant without any warning, mouse and keyboard becomes useless, and the only thing I can do is to hold down the power-button until it shuts down. I can't hear any different sounds and the led-lights are normal when it freeze. When I force it to shut down and starting it again, it starts for like 2-3 seconds, but then shut itself down. If I wait 10-15 min and then try to start it, it starts up normally, but after 5-10 min it either freezes again or shuts down without warning.

Specs: (since I formatted and don't had the chance to install drivers, the specs are blank, but it's original dv5 specs, which i think are)

- AMD Athlon X2 QL-62 / 2 GHz Dual-Core
- DDR2 SDRAM 4GB
- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 512 MB
- Seagate Momentus® 7200.4 500GB (the original crashed a year ago)

What I've tried to:

- Start in safety mode (with no help, problem still remained)
- Use just battery and/or just the AC (with no help, problem still remained)
- I've formatted to Vista (the same I used before formatting) (with no help, problem still remained)
- run a hard-drive scan, but it froze at 40% and I could not complete the scan

Answer:Hp Pavilion dv5-1153eo Freezes and shuts down randomly

Sounds like overheating. Use compressed air to blow into ventilation ports to clear it of dust. Canned air may not furnish enough pressure and volume to dislodge dust clogging. Also, check that all fans are running. Some laptops have more than one fan.

@serlesen A lot of laptops owned by my friends had this problem too.The problem could be on your Wi-Fi card and the version of Windows you're having, including the BIOS. Some things you might want to try:- Find the latest Wi-Fi driver for your PC. Don't have to be from HP website, you could manually go to Broadcom's website or simply typing your device ID or Wi-Fi card model number online and download it. - Go to HP website and download the latest BIOS firmware for your PC. This is my recommended solution. - Check if your Windows is on the latest using Windows Update. I know, a lot of you thinks that this is kid's suggestion. But, seriously, this time, it could be that your Windows currently have some conflicts with the Wi-Fi card you're having. Try it out. FYI, this problem is not uncommon. This problem occurs a lot with Wi-Fi cards from Atheros and occured with Windows 8 or 8.1 when first released. But, some also occur with Broadcom cards.

I have a 10 year old HP Pavilion notebook that has served me quite well over the years. I use it exclusively for Excel these days. My problem for some time now is that the computer will shut off upon startup after about 4 minutes. If I don't use the charger cord, it will not turn on at all, which obviously points to a battery issue. I have sometimes been able to get the computer to stay on for extended periods but these occasions are becoming more and more rare. Tried about 10 times today with no success.....shut down after 4 minutes each time. Before I bring it into the shop for some sort of fix, is there anything else I can try? Would a new battery make a difference, as the unit has no stored power to fall back on. Any ideas?

Thanks

My computer died and a friend gave me a Pavilion DV8300 CTO notebook, XP Pro, which I restored to factory settings using the recovery partition. Most everything works fine, the computer will shut down and start up, but if you tell it to restart it hangs on the black HP screen with "press <esc> to change boot order" and "press <F10> to enter setup," neither of which do anything. Actually, that's not entirely true. If you click F10, it just tells you to keep waiting and never does anything. I've flashed the BIOS and updated all the drivers, I have no idea why it won't reboot, but it is curious. Any help is appreciated.

Okay, so my operating was originally Windows 8, I upgraded it to Windows 10. And so, when I unplug my battery, it shuts off imediately. It never leaves my desk and I just fixed it from a hard drive problem. It has 92% battery, I don't want to waste money for it, since I just fixed it. And when I search up the problem it says something about a power mode but it doesn't even show that. I'm not sure if other people have this problem but I am pretty mad. And no I never dropped it. Do I need to replace my battery if so, where and how do I replace it?

Hello there HP support and viewers alike. New user here who's been lurking around as a guest for a very long time seeking help constantly from the forums. It does seem that I have run into one of my own unique problems, I won't waste time so I'll cut to the chase: Problem:My HP Pavilion Laptop, Model 15 - ab292nr, running Windows 10(64-bit) has shutdown and refuses to start up. The most surprising and perplexing thing to me is that it just did this suddenly and randomly after I booted up a 2004 video game. The screen went black instantly, the fan stopped and there was completely no power. The screen was at full brightness right before I initiated this, indicating the battery supply was constantly being recharged and was no where close of touching 0% charge. The laptop has completely no lights, and the AC adapter doesn't seem to charge as it does not heat itself whilst plugged into a power outlet. I've already tried a hard reset but to no avail. My only hope is to turn to the forums for help from qualitifed experts.I've read a lot of similiar problems with sudden shutdowns and refusal to start once again, and some seem to be linked to motherboard issues. I hope this isn't the case and it's just related a sort of power surge and can be easily fixed. Any good solutions? Thanks in advance.

Hello darjoy and welcome to the computerhope forum.Have you tried to start your computer using the "F8" key.F8 is the key you use to start a computer in safe mode.Just in case you are not familiar with the process:Start your computer from the off position and tap the F8 key during the start up procedure.During the loading of Windows at some point it should change to a screen giving you several options. One of the options is to "Start computer in safe mode."Select this option using your up/down arrow keys and press enter. If that is successful you can explore your options to do a system restore if needed.

laptop I have an hp pavilion dv6000. It has the same problem, that there is no display. And even though I tried new ram sticks pc2 5300 in the ram slots, the display never came on, just the same power on and then shutoff after 2 seconds. Can I deduce from this that these ram slots are bad, or could it be something else? I have already done a hard reset, but its still the same result

Answer:hp pavilion dv6000, no display, and laptop powers up and then shuts down

Take the OLD ram sticks. Place one stick in one slot and attempt boot. If it works you know that stick is good and that slot is good. Mix and match until you find a working combination. Then you know if the old ram or a slot is dead. Then try a stick of the new ram in the slot you have tested to be working (or if both are working go for slot A)Then if that works add the other stick of ram - if it now fails swap the ram, if it fails again try the first stick of NEW ram in the B slot and attempt to boot. This will determine whether the new ram is at fault or if it is the slots.

I've just updated an HP Pavilion 15 from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 (Home 64 bit). If fast startup is enabled, the laptop freezes at the very least step of the shutting down process. The shutting down process goes like this:

1. First you click on shut down
2. The shut down screen appears
3. The screen turns off and then the fan starts to spin at high speed
4. After 4-5 seconds, the fan stops
5. The laptop is completely turned off, no lights are turned on (in most of PC's)

Well, my problem is that randomly, the Pavilion 15 freezes after step 4 has been completed, with the light of the ON/OFF button turned on forever. Sometimes it turns off correctly, but many other times this happens. If I disable the fast startup, this won't happen and it will always turn off correctly.

What can I do?
How is it that it's random?

I've tested this with no apps running on background, so that can't be the reason, besides, no apps or programs can freeze the system after the step 4 has been completed, since they are all shut down after step 1.

Answer:HP Pavilion 15 randomly shuts down incorrectly if fast startup enabled

Hello rambomhtri,

It's usually best to just leave Fast Startup turned off when you have issues with it turned on. If Windows is installed on a SSD, you'll most likely not notice any or much difference in startup time with Fast Startup turned on or off.

It all started when i opened some foreign file and it mustve been a virus or something. That triggered my computer to make these weird whirring clicky noises. Then my computer shut down. That day, i tryied to turn it on, it worked. However, the monitor didnt display anything. The computer was running but something to do with the bios just wasn't working.
Later on, my father fixed it.
However. NOW, the computer randomly shuts off by itself.
I'd start the computer on, and usually, the computer would start to make these noises similar to that of a computer reading a disc.
after the noises, the computer shuts off, and restarts by itself.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have a V100 that has been overheating and shutting down when i run applications such as Photoshop and MS Office 2003. It has a 2Gb intel duo processor and 2Gb of RAM. I downgraded to Windows XP with service pack 2. The warranty expired in July 08 and until 3-4 months ago didn't have this problem. It happens with or without the battery, typically I have it plugged in. I took it apart partially and cleaned out any dust by the fan and such, but there was very little. I tried to run diagnostics on it through Lenovo System Toolbox (used to be called PC Dr.). During the system stress test it overheated and shutdown. I then ran the full system scan and when it got to the multicore test for the processor, it again overheated and shutdown. I'm not sure if this is an indication that the processor is failing or if maybe it just needs some thermal paste or if there is another problem going on. Any help would be appreciated.

So this time the problem started out as a simple issue. Whenever I bump the desk or move the keyboard out with too much force, the computer shuts off. Everybody told me that it could have been a loose connection so I checked it all and replugged everything back in. The computer starting working fine for about 5 hours then it just shut off randomly while I was playing a game. This time, though, it shut off without me bumping into anything. SO, is this a power supply issue? I'm using a 550-watt supply while running a 7800 GT. This is the right power amount so that's not my concern. And now the problem has gotten worse to the point where I turn on the computer and nothing shows up again. Windows doesn't load and the screen is on too. You here the fans and everything but nothing will load. All my parts from my old issue were replaced EXCEPT the power supply and CD-drive. I don't think it could be another loose connection b/c now nothing even shows up. Please help!!!

Answer:Power shuts off randomly, and any movement around computer shuts it off

Have you tried plugging into a different surge protector and different outlet?

Sounds like you need to swap the power supply to me.

Ive had my laptop about a year now. It randomly stopped working one day. I've tried some other tricks on the internet does not work. Laptop stays on but the screen turns off before starting, then turn on again and off repeatedly. If you have any clue what the problem is it how I could fix it. Let me know.

Answer:HP Window 7 turns on and shuts off. Shuts off before starting up.

if the computer is staying on but the screen is shutting off; it sounds to me like there could possibly be a loose connector inside the laptop or possibly something going on the with the power supply. If you are not ok with taking the computer apart i would take it to someone to have it looked at. But if you want to try and fix it yourself; i would carefully take out the screws that hold the top cover with the keyboard on it and take off that top cover and see if you see any loose cables or connectors.

Answer:will a HP Pavilion 15-n034sa motherboard fit into a HP Pavilion 15-n083sa ?

Actually that's a hard question, generally its not possible to install another motherboard, sometimes it is. In this case one is an AMD platform and the other is an Intel platform, there could be tons of differences in mounting holes, physical design, clearance, connectors, heat dissipation requirements, cooling systems, etc. Laptops are not like desktops that use more standardized designs.

I just purchased an hp pavilion HPE h8-1234 desktop model. When I turn off or restart my computer the USB host power also shuts off. I would like it to stay on even when the computer is shut off. One concern I have is that I have an AVID M-Box connected to one of the USB ports and I don't think it is good for it if the power going into it is always going on and off. Also I like to use the USB host power to charge up one of my video cameras and not have to have the computer on to do that.

Both computers are Core i3-4130, have 1 TB 7200 SATA 6G 3.5 HDs, same OS (Windows 7 Pro 64). My question is: can I swap them out, or do I need to get an external HD enclosure and copy the 205t to the 490? If I need the external HD enclosure, looks like aluminum would be best, but would like recommendation for one which would hold my HD.

Whenever I play a movie or a game, after about 20 mins or so the display stops working. On some occasions the computer will just shut off. I have ran a AIDA64 benchmark test on my machine with all hardware devices and the system performs well. (Test ran for 5 hours +) I also checked my cpu temperatures and when I do play a movie or game temps rise into the 75C + range. I have replaced my power supply with a(thermaltake 600w tr2) and even bought a ZALMAN CNPS5X Performa 92mm FSB cooler to help but still no solution to my problem. I also tried putting in a pci-express video card and the problem still happens.

Answer:Computer display shuts off/computer shuts down. During video tasks.

75c isnt hot hot, but is a little hot for watching movies.

what cooler do you have on your cpu? and what are the idle temperatures?
also how long do they take to recover from the highest to the lowest temp?

this could be something as simple as poorly applied thermal compound.

im not saying it is over heating its just one possibility.
especially if youve a cpu with a built in apu and not a discreet gpu.

Recently my pc has decided it would shut itself down for no reason in particular.
I might be doing something or it may be idle but all fails and can't be turned back on.
The only way I can get it up and running is to short out the bios reset on the mainboard, this will then allow me to turn the power back on and start up ok.
However it will shut down again and has become more frequent anything from 15mins to a few hours.
Has anyone got any ideas before I go and buy something which might not be the fault?

Thanks

Answer:Pc Shuts Itself Off

check to see if all the fans in your computer are working, including vid card fan, power supply fan, CPU fan, etc... If your computer restarts or shuts down like that, it's most likely do to overheat. Believe me, I have had more than my share of problems with overheating, I had to transfer every component on my PC to a new case, and that was NOT an easy job...

good luck to ya!
oh, and touch your CPU heatsink and northbridge and vid card to see if they're too hot. Check in your BIOS and post the temps here, along with what CPU you got.

Answer:PC shuts down after a while.

Do you get a crash log after the PC reboots (ie a 'system has recovered...serious error...') if so, there should be a minidump file that you can zip and post here. Also, what programs are you using before it crashes?
It could be faulty RAM though.

Question: PC Shuts Down

Hey guys

I’ve been having trouble with my Desktop PC, shutting down with no warning. At first it seemed to shutdown every time I ran AVG virus-scan so my first thoughts were virus. Because I was unable to run a complete scan, I installed Trend Micro House Call which told me my system was clean.

People with similar problems were pointed towards memory issues or heat related, so I ran the “memory” command from Windows to check the memory. The outcome for me was intermittent, either it would complete a successful scan or shut off with no clear pattern.

But when I checked the CPU temperature to my surprise it was running at 104oC to 120oC, all the fans seem in working order and the heat-sink around the processor didn’t seem that hot. Regardless I cleaned up as much dust as I could. Curious I removed the process fan only to find little or no thermal grease between the heat sink and the processor. Could that be the main problem? I’ll probably be sending it off for diagnosis and/or repair but thought I’ll see what you guys think, as now I’m a little out my depth?

Many Thanks

I would clean the processor heatspreader and the bottom of the heatsink with isopropyl or denatured alcohol, make sure it is prefectly dry then apply either some IC7 thermal compound of AS5 thermal compound.

With either IC 7 or AS 5 I use the IC 7 installation instructions not matter which compound I use.

http://www.innovationcooling.com/applicationinstructions.htm

There is no difference in the IC 7 carat and IC 24 carat other than the amount of compound in the applicator.

Question: Pc shuts off

I just got sims 3 and installed it on my pc, my graphics card is a little under the specs for it but it still supports the game. my pc has a problem with shutting down almost all the time, not justw when playing that game but some times on hefty downloads, like the other day i was attemptign to installl a new graphics driver and every time about half way thru the install it would just kick off. i downloaded that speed fan program to monitor my tempatures but im unsure how reliable it is but it insists that my computer over heats. so the other day i installed a new rear fan for my pc and it still shuts down. i thought that maybe my computer maybe doesnt have enough ram to handle some of the activitys i do so i had also installed a new 526 mb ram so im at a total of around 960 ram and my computer still shuts down. its very cold here so i got the idea of putting my computer on the window ledge and taking the cover off and opening the window and it doesnt shut down when playing games like sims 3 but if i close it withen the hour its off.. im not sure what to do. since i have done all this and look at the speed fan program it says my power is over heatign up to 200 degrees farenhiet but than it alternates between like 90 and mid 100 to 200 withen minutes so i dont think speed fan is stable, oh and also it says my core voltage is slightly low, heres my dxdiag if it helps any. im really confused on how to solve the problem

Hello,

I posted here yesterday asking for help on a similar problem yesterday: GPU keeps working (fans spinning) for a few seconds after shutdown - Windows 10 Forums

Basically, what happens now is as follows: When I press shutdown from start menu and the PC screen goes black at the end of it, I can hear components stopping their work, but pretty much all fans keep working (PSU fan, case fans, GPU fans). They work for 20-30 seconds and then I hear a Mobo beep (the same one you hear when you turn on your PC) and the PC boots back like it's nothing. When I reach login screen and shut down again from there, the PC fans again keep spinning after components turn off, but only a few seconds this time. The PC components then turn on and immediately turn off together with the fans.

Sorry for the poor phrasing, English is not my native language and I try my best here.

This complicated double-take shut down process only began after I disabled fast startup in Windows 10 (some guys on various forums suggested that I do that). Before I disabled them, the problem was like the one I linked to in the beginning. The whole problem started after I installed a second HDD. During the installation I also removed the GPU to allow me to fix some cables.

Besides the shut down, the PC seems to be working just fine. No crashes, no BSODs - nothing. Only this strange shut down.

Check that your cpu fan is working correctly. This could be faulty and causing the system to shut down, it also could have been the whirring sound you've heard as well.

Alright so this has been a problem for months now, and I'm tired of it... My computer will randomly shut down if I play ANY video game, not only that, but simply using a webcam will shut it down as well. I think it's most likely a hardware problem because it shuts down, I don't get any error report or anything!

My specs are:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit
Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
Processor: Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz, 2833Mhz
BIOS Version/Date: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG, 7/30/2008
SMBIOS Version: 2.4
Installed Physical Memory (RAM): 4.00GB
Total Physical Memory: 2.75GB
Available Physical Memory: 1.34GB
Total Virtual Memory: 5.50GB
Available Virtual Memory: 3.23GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 285

Sorry, I do not know what half of those things are, I'm not really into computer technology that much, I just posted what I thougt was necessary from msinfo32.exe. I'll take all the help I can get, I'm tired of having to switch to my father's laptop to cam with my girlfriend, but more importantly I want to be able to play games!

Answer:Help! PC Shuts Down

Hi,

Since you mention shut-downs during video games and webcam, it sounds to me as if you have a graphics card problem. The easiest thing to do is update your graphics card drivers.

Please go to this site and download and install the video card driver that matches yours - please check carefully.

Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Make sure your panel looks like this:

Attachment 163990

Post back and let us know if you still have problems with the game. After that lets tackle the webcam problem.

I have been posting a thread on internet and security about my PC shutting itself down as I thought this was caused by a virus or trojan. However with the help of the moderator I have discovered the problem is not caused by the above!
My next guess is it must be hardware but I have no idea where to start!

Basically the PC just seems to drop power for a second and then restarts and runs scan disk as it was not shut down properly. It then offers to send an error report to microsoft which then diverts me to a web page that tells me the problem is caused by a driver! One time it mentioned the graphics driver so I have downloaded the latest driver from the Nvidia website however this has not fixed the problem!

Please help!!

Thanks in advance!

Jamie

Hi everyone,

Desperately hoping someone can solve this issue for me!

IE shuts down without warning ... If I try to login to anything like hotmail, eBay etc., or view something it shuts down and with general browsing, it also shuts down randomly. Initially I got an error message that Internet explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down but I don't get that message anymore.

I have scoured the Internet for answers and have tried disabling all add-ons which seemed to be the solution for most people with this issue. I have scanned my computer with norton, super antis heard which hasn't been successful. I have all the current updates installed and have tried restoring my pc to an earlier point. I have also tried firefox but the same problems occur.

I am truly at my wits end now as I don't know what else to try and am hoping for some help!

I have IE 8 and vista. I also tried installing IE 9 but had the same problems so uninstalled the new version.

Thanks in advance!!!

Answer:Pc shuts Down

Please dont post your email publicly unless you LOVE spam.

Can you boot into safe mode with networking and virus scan? Sounds virus related, so you need to do this. I hope you do have a virus scanner and it is up to date.

Our links page has a list of online tests so you can virus scan online:

Might want to do our spyware tutorial as well, from safe mode as well for most of it:

Question: PC Shuts Down

Let me start by posting my PC spec.

Core 2 duo 2.17 GHz Overclocked to 3.0Ghz
2 8800 Gts 640 Mb Superclocked Graphic cards In SLI
4 Gigs Corsair XMS Extreme DDRII 800 Ram
2 250 GB Hard drives
1 DVD drive
Windows Vista 64 Bit Ultimate Edition.

My problem is this. I installed COD 4 and it started up fine. But as soon as I adjusted the graphic settings to High, and the setting to 2 graphic cards and hit apply. My PC turns off.
Same problem for Americas Army. Except i get a blue screen, and have to restart PC.

I also get the same issue with 3d Mark. As soon as I start the test, It loads then MY PC shuts off.

I adjusted my Ram Voltages to 2.o volts, other than that everything is at default.

My 680 SLI Mobo has a plugin option on the MOBO itself for SLi Power which I am not utilizing because I dont have the proper adapter. Dont know if that would make a difference or not.

So, with all that being said. I am in need of some desperate help here. I have no clue as to what I need to do in order to fix this issue. It seems as if maybe my PC is unstable and needs to be adjusted but honestly I wouldnt know what the settings would need to be as far as voltages, Timing, Etc.
I was also told that my SLI ready 680 Watt power supply should be plenty.

Anyone out there have any suggestions or ideas as to what I can do to solve this issue. Getting really frustrated here.

Thans alot!

Answer:PC Shuts Down

I spoke to a tech expert at ASUS last month regarding my board which uses the Nvidia 650i chipset. The man thought that I was talking about the 680i chipset. His advice to me was to keep an eye on the condition of my ram modules. He stated that the 680i chip has had a lot of trouble reports of ram modules going bad as weeks of computing goes on. Being that he was talking about your chip, you may want to do the 'one by one' ram module check. In many cases of computers having weird problems under some pressure, checking the ram is always a 'must do'. It will eliminate this part of your hardware as the cause of the headache. G' Luck. Also, you could try adjusting your ram timing (loosening it up). I had to reset my settings to 5-5-5-18; from the stock 4-4-4-12.

Question: PC Shuts down

I have an Evesham PC that I have had for nearly 3 years now. For the first time, I suffered from 3 shut downs tonight. My memory stick was plugged in at the time during the first shutdown. After each shut down, I couldn't switch the PC on again by pressing the button on the front. I had to reach around to the power switch on the back and turn it off and on again. Then the PC started up. These shut downs happened one after another...During the second shutdown my memory stick was also plugged in, but wasn't plugged in during the third shutdown. It is strange since this has never happened before, and I have used this same memory stick for months. There were no additional USB devices plugged in at the same time.I dare not plug the same USB memory stick again now...30 mins after the last shutdown, the PC seems to be working ok. Other memory sticks plugged in don;t seem to cause a problem.Does anyone know why this problem may have started out of the blue like this?

Has this ever run properly? Check all your connections including the mains plug. Pull out and reseat the cards and memory. Download and run Mem Test. If more than one stick of ram try swapping the slots.

Hello, I've been running Win & RC for a few days and seem to run into a ongoing problem. I think this is where I may want to start this thread.

Several times I have left win 7 running for a half hour or more (inactive) and it hibernates. If longer then 30 mins. I have to push soft reset, which wakes it up. However on 2 occasions I left it for several hours. It seemed to have shut the system completely down, again upon restart it went directly to Win 7 (running dual boot system w/ Win XP) and was herky. After a few minutes the screen became distorted and I had to preform a hard shutdown, as nothing would respond.

Any thoughts?

Answer:Win 7 shuts down on it's own.

Are you getting any of the following:

a) Errors in Event Viewer.

b) Blue Screen of Death.

c) Memory dumps.

If so, can you post back with what they are and we'll go from there. Are you using native Win 7 graphics drivers or the ones from the manufacturer of your card?

Question: DSL shuts off

at first start, dsl stays on... it disconnects after 20 minutes to 90 minutes... its not consistant in time or by how I surf. It'll shut down even if I don't surf.... grrr. Can I tell windows to keep it connected?
It is not supported for my win ME system anymore( sbc yahoo.. homeportal)
But my other comp is online endless.. no probs...

Answer:DSL shuts off

My dad has something similiar from SBC. You don't really need Yahoo, I make it a point not to use when I can. The hardware is 2Wire as to wireless router, we haven't had too much problems. It really shouldn't matter as to OS, the majority of computers on his network is Win98SE, with a few XP, with no issues.

I don't know if it relates, but I had a problem with my DSL carrier (verizon) where they would log off my modem once a day due to a timeout function. Doesn't sound likely, but its possible. I had to call tech support to verify this, it required a complete shutdown of my wireless router and DSL modem to reset my connection. The SBC version has both in the same box, which I thought was cool.

Have you upgraded the 2000 stuff with all the updates? Some of the Win2000 stuff is related to ports being open that allows intruders into your system. I don't see how this actually relates, but it is one of the bases I would cover.

I have a desktop that shuts itself off after the initial single beep. If I leave it, then 20/30 seconds later it restarts automatically but then switches off after the intial beep. The processor fan is spinning OK. I've tried changing the graphics card, the RAM and the PSU but get the same problem. I've removed all but the graphics card from the PCI slots. What could be wrong?

Answer:PC shuts down after a second

Has this only just started happening, was it all working ok previously? What OS and other peripherals? With the limited information, it could be either duff CPU or motherboard problem.

SP 2 is installed and was giving no problems up until now!

Any ideas folks???

Answer:XP shuts itself down

It could be an infection trying to disable the programs and causing more issues than it intended. Have you tried running these scans in safe mode?

I have this weird problem. I have a home built PC with a Pentium D, 4 gigs mem, 250G Maxtor HD. This rig is about 2 1/2 years old, and the problem's been occurring less than a year. I'm wondering if its the PSU since I replaced it about a year ago.Problem: It just shuts down, and I can't turn it back on until I unplug it and plug it back in. It is intermittent, going weeks without doing it, then it'll do it a few times a day for several days. It sounds weird, but it happens a lot just when I sit in my chair (and there are no cables, etc., near my chair). I'm no expert at a PC, but I can generally figure out, and fix, problems I have. This one, though, has me stumped.Frank

Answer:PC Shuts Down On Its Own

Best way to test this Frank would be to borrow a known good PSU and swap it in there to see if the issue goes away...I'm assuming you get no error messages since you didn't mention it so chances are it's the likely culprit. The only other thing that causes this other than RAM issues (not likely without BSOD's or error messages) would be overheating. For this remove a side panel and do some housekeeping inside. Use a can of compressed air paying special attention to the heatsinks and fans.Use a QTip to hold the fans in place when blasting them as you can damage them letting them spin up.Let us know...

Just upgraded and installed a new OS (XP).

Everything is working fine except a couple of things:

1. IE seems to shut down when browsing to certain pages - all by itself. Yet the same page after a few attemps seems to work??!! I ran AVG and TM Housecall but found nothing. Neither was anything suspicious in Hijackthis (there are maybe 10 lines alltogether due to new OS)

2. FSX crashed at very high details. Got an exception error with BSOD at least 3 times. By lowering the detail level the problem seemed to have gone away but I wonder if it is something relating to the first point.

Cheers

Are ye overclocking anything?

Ye have all the latest updates to all drivers (including motherboard drivers) and bios updates?

Is this a home built computer, or an OEM (dell, etc...)
