Preferred Solution: Keystroke Programs

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: Keystroke lag

Keystroke lag problem:  My HP laptop running WIN7 intermittantly has keystroke lag problems, i.e., i type a letter and it will not show/be visible for a few seconds.  This problem always happens when I can hear, what I assume is,  the hard drive whirling.  I've looked at Task Manager during this problem period and nothing jumps out at me.  When the hard drive goes quiet, the delayed keystroke problem goes away.
I've read several past posts regarding this problem, but given my limited knowledge base, I'm not able to figure out a solution.   I've run virus, malware scans, nothing seems to help.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Answer:Keystroke lag

Have you tried defragmenting the hard drive and cleaning it using CCleaner?

Question: Keystroke Spy

Hello MG,

I d/l and installed the above program from here. My avg picked it up as a virus and hence I uninstalled it asap and ran the avg. Is there a keystoke that you can recommend where children cannot access it?

Thanks,
Dee

Answer:Keystroke Spy

It's not a virus but AVG likes to boost it's 'detection' ratings.

It should really be classified as a PUP (potentially unwanted program) and there ought to be a way of setting an exception for it so that you can use it without the antivirus bothering you or blocking it.

If you use AVG, all similar software will be flagged as a 'virus' until you find a way to set AVG correctly.

I was logged into my system through remote desktop, when someone else attempted to access the same machine locally using the same user account. I was naturally dropped from the connection, but the local user is now experiencing a problem where everything they type is altered in some way. When she used msn messenger to contact me and ask "What's wrong with this keyboard", we both saw "what 5s 4- w5th th5s 2eyb6ard". Everything she types, regardless of the program used (messenger, notepad, word etc), gets scrambled like this. However, when I connect to the machine through remote desktop, I don't experience this problem. This leads me to think that this is not a font-related problem. Can the local keystrokes be misinterpreted? This is beyond the scope of my experience with XP. Any thoughts?

Answer:Odd XP Keystroke Problem

a simple system restore to a day prior to the problem can fix this problem

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.

On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system checkpoint in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next. A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.

Hello,

I was just wondering if there was a program available which can exchange keystrokes between computers rapidly in real time. E.g, if two people were to play a video game intended for two players, it could be achieved over 2 different computers with one computer sending the buttons he's pressing over to the other one.

Thanks,

Question: Keystroke Loop

Hello,

I'm running Vista Home Premium on a Gateway desktop that I purchased about 6 months ago. My problem is that from time to time the machine goes into a keystroke loop where a lower case 'L' ('l') is sprayed continuosly wreaking havoc and causing me to shut down the machine and restart it. Usually this happens after a period of inactivity but not always.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Many Thanks.

Answer:Keystroke Loop

This is resolved. As it turns out the keyboard itself was sending phantom keystrokes out of the blue when idle for a period of time. I replaced the keyboard and the problem disappeared.

I`ve got an HP Pavilion Desktop T3640 with Windows XP Media Centre edition 2005. Am using the keyboard that came with it.

To shut down, I have to click Start, Shut Down, and then Shut Down again when it appears in a new little window in the centre of the screen. I fancy it`s possible in one keystroke. The top left-hand key on the keyboard shows a black fingernail-moon, and seems to put the machineminto some low-power state - I don`t know if that`s hibernate or snooze or something else. Perhaps that button can be adapted to shut down. Or maybe another of the row of buttons could be reassigned.

Query 1: Any ideas about that ?

Query 2: Is that really too elementary a query for techguy, and if it is, can anyone recommend a kindegarten site for me ?

Answer:Shutting down with one keystroke ?

Hi try.
Right click desktop>select new shortcut>type

I'm running IE on MX. I like IE because of it's compatibility with all the other MS programs. But recently it has started not accepting ever keystroke, for example if I'm not watching what I'm typing and retyping every letter that doesn't appear, if I was to type:
"The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" it would come out like this:
Th quick brownfox juped over t lazy og.
I have tried downloading the latest version of IE and reinstalling it. It seemed to make a bit of a difference because it was really bad before I did it, but now it seems to be getting progressively worse again.
Any suggestions?

Hi

I am having problems with IE8 and it missing keystrokes. I thought that removing IE8 and putting IE7 back would resolve the issue, but still the same. I reverted right back to IE6 and now all working ok.

With IE8, if I add www.google.co.uk to the restricted site list, I don't get the issue. Also, the issue seems to be on any website that has predictive text, for example, google, as you start to typt it pre-empts what you want to search for. The same happens with Yahoo which also has this "feature". Microsoft site is fine (no pre-empting)

I have disabled all add-ons, still no change. Trawled the web for hours, nothing of any use, the common thoughts are Java\Shockwave, but it's not that, tried it.

Oh and before anyone suggests it, no other browser will do, this is corporate policy to use IE.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

SC-KeyLog is a powerful, invisible keylogger that captures user activity and saves it to an encrypted logfile.

I just received a T420s which I bought mainly for its supposed keystroke noise suppression. However, I can't manage to enable it. In the ThinkVantage Communications Utility (v2.06) there?s a checkbox saying "Enable keystroke suppression" but I can?t detect any difference when the box is checked and unchecked. I?ve made audio recordings without seeing and hearing any difference, and I?ve made VoIP calls through GMail and Skype without hearing any difference at the receiving end when the box is checked and not.  Any suggestions to what I?m doing wrong, or is this feature actually not a real feature (merely marketing)?

Answer:Keystroke suppression?

The Lenovo marketing of this feature was in my opinion highly misleading.  I bought the T420 partly for its keyboard noise suppression, only to find out that it is a VOIP-only feature only after my purchase.  It is vaguely mentioned in so many places, without any mention of this restriction, that I thought it was based on destructive interference, which would be a really useful feature (although I can see how it would be hard to implement). I just wanted to mention that I don't think it will work with your audio recordings, but should work to some effect with Skype.  I've read another user report that even when working, it doesn't work perfectly; you should hear some noise reduction but the occasional clickety-clack.

Hey,
I'm trying but failing to find something is BASIC that will sim keystrokes. ie, i type in something in response to a prompt, then, based on the response, the program will simulate something like an F1, or esc, or ctrl etc. Eventually I hope to use this in conjunction with microsoft speech SDK to make a speech recognition program for RTS games. Something that will run in the backround and i can just say "library" and it will hit the hotkey for library.
Thanks a bunch in advanced

Question: Phanotm Keystroke

Hello i play a lot of pc fighting games, so of course i use a joypad and adapter.(just to verify this is not a hardware problem.. I think. If it is i will move this to the appropriate section)

One day i was trying to set up a second joypad to the program (this is not a specific program problem) and before i could map the inputs on the controller, some weird input from the keyboard took the place of the input.

The keystroke differs from program to program but the fact is that every program in which i try to map inputs (not just controllers, any game where i try to change the control scheme) this weird keystroke pops up before i can map a new key.

Thes are the keystrokes i have observed:
0xFF
0x8D
0x6F
other programs just read the input as ?.

edit: forgot to mention that Rootrepeal ran into these errors:

FYI though:

The version of MGTools.exe that you have run is very outdated. Please follow the below instructions:

Go to this link Using MGTools and download the new version of MGtools.exe using the black bold print link in the first sentence. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Now run the new MGTools.exe and attach the ---> C:\mglogs.zip that it generates. into your next reply here.

Hello, After a lot of research I recently bought a Thinkpad Edge 15 (NVLGQUK) and, apart from being gutted that I have to press Fn before each use of the function keys (I use these a LOT for my job), so far, so good. It seems there's nothing I can do about this inspired Lenovo 'feature' but there is one thing my new machine does which I hope may be cured: When I launch IE8 my system ignores the first keystroke. This is annoying when trying to sign in to web pages. It doesn't seem to do this in Firefox. I can't see that anyone else has experienced similar issues from a web search- has anyone any ideas please? I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 and IE gives its version number as 8.0.7600.16385. Any help would really, really be appreciated! Cheers James

Answer:IE8 ignoring first keystroke

Hi Anglichanin, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!

In the BIOS (press F1 at the ThinkPad logo when the system is starting) you can change the default behavior of the Fn keys.

As for your IE 8 missing keystrokes, are your Windows Updates current? There's at least one long thread over at Microsoft on this, with various claimed solutions (keyboard drivers, viruses, anti-virus, ....):

I think my ex-gf may have installed some kind of spyware on my pc. I gave her my apartment key one day while I was at work. She claims she never used it and was never there that day but when I got home and used my pc the DOS screen came up and asked "would you like to save system configuration changes" or something to that affect. When I went to the start button word pad was on the list which is something I've never used. When I opened wordpad the name of one of my encrypted files was on the recently saved list. I am having major problems opening and closing everything on my computer and it is getting worse. I have PC Tools spyware doctor with antivirus, registry fix, privacy guardian, spam monitor and symantec antivirus. I ran malware log and it noted multiple low level tracking threats but also noted malware in the form of application.keystroke spy and adyieldmanager. Spyware doctor says they quarantined it and also caught adyieldmanager but computer still takes several minutes to open and close anything, with some things like email account sign-in pages and symantec antivirus application not closing at all. I know the malware is not gone cause I am getting warnings from spyware about other "ad" type threats. When I run malware log again, it freezes when scanning browser "trusted sites" area. To make matters worse, spyware tech support emailed me to add three spyware exe type files to spyware doctor, symantec and windows firewall which seems to have made things worse. On top of that I tried to tighten up my browser cookies and now browser pages are not loading colors and pictures (when they load at all). Word applications won't open and the whole system stops for long periods if I open task manager. spyware tech support is not available until day after tomorrow and I am afraid everything will be corrupted by then. I appreciate any help I can get. Thank you.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this!

I was in my registry yesterday trying to completely uninstall a particular program (a question for another time), and noticed the following under HKEY_classes_root:

SKBMonitor.KeystrokeMonitor

and

SKBMonitor.KeystrokeMonitor1

Both have a subdirectory of CLSID, and the first has a CurVer subdirectory, as well.

I've searched all over and can't find anything about this on the internet - can anyone enlighten me? This worries me, obviously, but neither Trend nor a couple of spyware removal programs have detected anything - and I would be surprised, I guess, if any true keylogger would be that blatant about the name of the program.

Help!

I just checked my registry for that and could not find anything in my registry. Something you have installed I guess put that there? Hmmm I too do not like the looks of it.

Question: Keystroke Delay

Everywhere I type: this form, notepad, Excel, etc. -- there is a keystroke delay. This just started this morning after I booted up.

The delays are intermittant; it will be okay for a few seconds and then it starts up again.

I have rebooted, done some reading to assist with troubleshooting, cleared IE files, and downloaded hijackthis.

Any ideas to resolve this would be appreciated!

Here is my hijackthis log:

i finally did everything you told me to prepare my computer first for hijacking.

the first day everything went fine. Then today, I discovered that iexplore.exe is back where it doesnt belong, so i think i took care of that.

My major problem is this: I know someone has logging my keystrokes and activity etc. I would like to post my HIJACK THIS log now to see what else needs to be done.

I have way too many startup applications running in the backgroung with numerous SVC hosts. I need some help guys!!

May I post my HIJACK THIS log file?

Answer:Im being watched by the keystroke

Have you run ALL the steps (including the online scanners) in the Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

If so, follow the directions below. If not, complete all steps first.

- Download HijackThis 1.99.1

- Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

- Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

- Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

- Run HijackThis and save your log file.

- Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

My particular version of XP (MCE) has this annoying problem whereby the system beeps and ignores my first keystroke EVERY time after I use the mouse or haven't typed in a while. It's annoying as hell and I haven't been able to find anyone else who has it or would have any idea how to turn this off. I'm not running any of the accessibility options, and I've even reinstalled the system twice trying to fix it.

Answer:Annoying beep on first keystroke

That's weird. Silly question maybe but have you eliminated the mouse and keyboard from the equation (by substitution)? Not that I can see the reason for these symptoms.Any errors showing in Device Manager?Could be buggy keyboard and/or mouse software if you are using any.Google is NOT the only Search Engine!

This may not be a Windows 7 Home Premium issue but someone may be able to help anyway.

Since replacing my XP laptop with a new Gateway NV52 laptop I've been noticing that, when typing online forum posts (on one particular forum site, using Firefox) I'll suddenly find that I've hit some key or keys (or something?) that takes me back a page and I lose everything I've typed. I've tried to figure out what I could be doing on the keyboard but haven't been able to, though it seems to happen most when I'm typing rapidly, and I know that the heel of my right hand may sometimes hit some key or the mousepad or the right click bar.

Any ideas?

Answer:Keystroke or key for 'back' in Firefox????

Wow. Could be several things I suppose. Don't know how good a typist you are, but if I try to type real fast I make mistakes and hit the backspace fairly often. If you were typing and brushed the track pad and focus got taken out of the text box, backspace would take you back a page. I've had the problem of typing in a box and when I brush the pad, focus gets taken elsewhere on the page. Just one guess... I guess.

If this is the problem, maybe there is a way to adjust the sensitivity of the pad.

Hello there. Apparently my computer has been infected with a keystroke logger of some sort. While searching online for World of Warcraft information (which I recently started playing), I clicked on a particular link. When I clicked on it, I immediately got pop-up warnings, I believe from Windows XP as well as Spybot Search and Destroy. I immediately closed the browser page, and clicked the "do not allow this change" popup box that you get from Spybot. To be safe, I immediately ran Spybot, and it didn't find anything.

However, since that time, my WoW account has been hacked twice (the second time, after I changed the PW on a different computer). After it happened the first time, I ran Spybot again, and it found a few items to delete. I removed those, and figured I was gtg. However, it has since happened again. Apparently, it happens fairly often with people like myself who get lax with computer security. I've run Spybot a number of times since then, as well as started using a firewall, but Spybot has not been able to find this keylogger program. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Pareto Logic XoftSpySE is finding Redhand, which it says is a commercially available keystroke logger. None of my other spyware programs catch this bugger. I have Trojan Hunter, Spybot, X-Cleaner and SpySweeper, which is the only one that runs resident as a blocker. AVG also runs resident.

XoftSpy allows you to remove Redhand, but it comes back after a reboot; even when system restore is off, and even when you scan and remove in safe mode.

I have not been able to get Panda Online Scan to work in IE.

Any help? Please? Pretty Please? Thanks.

Answer:help with Redhand keystroke logger

I've never been a fan of XoftSpy. Always had too many false positives and does not fix many things it supposedly finds.

Attach a log showing exactly what it is find.

Redhand is a commercial application which is normally installed on purpose. That does not mean that some one could not use it for malcious purposes.

And also answer some questions:

did you or anyone else install any keyloggers on this PC?
Is it your PC and are you the Administrator?
Are you the original owner of the PC?
did you run X-Cleaner and did it detect Redhand?

Can we customize a key so that when pressed it will type several characters?
I would use that function to quickly enter my ?user name? or email address when accessing internet pages that require filling such fields plus the Password.

Thank you for any help.
ACA

Answer:Typing several characters with one keystroke

Most browsers have the ability to remember or in some cases predict the username and password of a site you are trying to log in to.

If you tell me which browser you are using will point you to the relevant tutorial on how to set it up.

Also having your password mapped to a key on your keyboard is not a good idea in terms of security.

If you are still interested in mapping multiple letters or words to a single key it may be worth looking at Keyboard Layout Manager - Keyboard Editor Window (I'm not 100% sure it will let you assign multiple characters to one key but I think it can)

Hi,

Sometime last night I fell asleep at the PC and woke to the sound of too many keys being pressed. My head was resting on the keyboard. The problem now is the bios is clicking with every keystroke and will not let me type anything repeatedly. Even the word food unless i wait either 3 seconds or make a typo on purpose and then backspace over it. I also can`t backspace more than 1 at a time or more than 1 every 3 seconds. Also My top row is wrong in the upercase section. starting at 1 and ending at +/- it reads as follows
!is1
"is2
/is3
$is4
%is5
?is6
&is7
*is8
(is9
)is0
_is-
+is=
Obviously some of these are right. But there is also some other items that are wrong as well. the question mark is ? and the quotes are`. this is very frustrating. The clicking only started last night but the odd characters has been there a couple of days.

I am running vista sp2 and have norton 360 runing.

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Katz

i think you set the default keyboard language to a different language

Try This:

Start-->Control Panel-->Region and Language.

1.) Click the "Keyboards and Language" tab

2.)Click change keyboards

3.)Click the drop-down and select English(United States)-US

Note-if you use a language other than English then select that instead

I'm having a rather unusual problem. On certain programs (Such as firefox) my keyboard layout gets rearranged. Below is what the rearranged version looks like.

It's still normal on most Microsoft programs so far, like IE and notepad, but on Firefox and GIMP 2.8, this new layout sometimes gets used. Not always, and not always right away. Sometimes the program is in use for an hour or so before it starts.
On-screen keyboard notices the change every time I switch between an affected program and, say, notepad, and I don't think it's a problem with the keyboard or my language settings since it only affects certain programs. However, for reference, my keyboard is a Dell Ps/2 of unknown age (but surprisingly decent condition.) My language settings are english, USA. My computer is a Dell Dimension 3000.

Hi, I have been experiencing a couple of problems in the past week.

For a couple of times when I was browsing on the internet, probably was using the mouse or pressing the left/right arrow buttons (definitely the control button for sure) and all of a sudden the screen display turned upside down.
There have also been 2 occasions when I wasn't using the mouse or pressing any key and my IE7 switched to another tab.

I ran AVG Free, Spyware Doctor, and Spybot in both regular mode and safe mode, nothing was detected.

The second problem is, a week ago, Spyware doctor detected an "Application.Keystroke Spy" (unvise32.exe), I had it fixed. Nothing showed up again in the following few days. Then it showed up again. Since I hadn't visited any suspicious sites I suspect that the thread wasn't really removed.

Nothing has been detected on AVG and Spybot either.

I am using Vista Home, Toshiba laptop.

Attached is my Hijack this log. Could anyone kindly help me please? Many thanks!!

Hi all,

I think I may be infected with a keystroke logger.

I first noticed that my typing would skip letters, like if I was searching Google for something, the first letter wouldn't go in the search box. Then I had my antivirus (Avast) stop working, it froze up and I couldn't restart it. Changed to AVG, ran full scan - found nothing.

Got a call from 1 credit card company (Visa) on 1/30/12 - they had unusual activity on my account and put a hold on it. Had to close account and open new one. On 1/31/12 got a call from my other credit card company (Mastercard), same deal. Now no credit cards and many questions.

Ran Spybot - found 1 problem. Ran MalwareBytes, found 3 problems, ran Spyware Terminator, found 10 problems. Fixed each problem after each scan. Not sure what to do now, I had to do a Hijack This about 5 years ago to take care of a different issue (Trojan if I remember correctly).

So, here is my Hijack This Log, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Tech support guy,

I have up to date virus and spyware scanners but still get a bit paranoid sometimes. I had an idea that if I typed all my passwords and ID's into notepad for example, I would be able to copy and paste them into the required fields which would prevent keystroke loggers from being able to read them? It's just a thought and Im curious as to whether it may give me a bit more protection?

Thanks in advance.

Hi
I use multi media player (xbmc) on my secondary display.
I launch it thanks to my remote which sends keystrokes. In fact it simulates a keyboard. Pressing F1 launches xbmc.

As I m watching a video, if somebody works on the internet on the primary display, xbmc loses the focus and the remote is unefficient.
With winXP, pressing F1 gives back focus to xbmc.
With win7, it doesn't.
Why ? Thanks for replies.

Answer:get back focus by keystroke

there can only be one "active window", computer will focus on whatever window you are working within, if you click on the xbmc after you work on you main monitor, it will restore what you call "focus" to your xbmc. The remote is not working because xbmc is not the current active window, i hope i understood you correctly... also since your new to windows 7 , here is a list of all the key commands and shortcuts

I am having aggravating problems using my computer.
The mouse arrow is very slow to respond to mouse movements, clicking on locations on the screen often takes two or three clicks before a response, and there is often a dotted line rectangle (like when recording a macro) lurking next to the mouse arrow.

I have used Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D and Red anythinggistryFix but not found anything odd.

Below is my HijackThis log. Can any clever person help me to sort out what is my (and my computer's) problem. My machine is a HP/Compaq Presario, AMD Athlon 64 Processor, 3500+, 984 mH, 1G RAM (sorry not a hardware techie). OS: WinXP family, SP2.

You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

Hi, I have a Dell XPS M1210 running XP.
I am having a problem with keystroke response.
No matter what program I am in, when I type, I end up having to wait quite a bit for the computer to respond....and i don't type that fast.

I scanned with Avast, nothing came up
I scanned with Spybot, fixed a few minor things, but that didn't sove the keystroke problem.
I also used the other applications recomended brofore posting.

See attached Log file.
If anyone can offer me some assistance, It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Very Slow Keystroke Response, Please Help

I apologize for the very long delay. We have been very busy and it has been taking us greater time than normal to get the logs caught up. If you are still having a problem, and want us to analyze your information, please post a brand new hijackthis log. If we do not hear back from you within a couple of days we will need to close your topic.

When posting your logs please post them directly into the reply. DO not attach them.

Thank you for your patience.

Is there a way that i can set a keystroke in winxp to create a new mail message in outlook 2003? thanks.

Answer:keystroke for new message in outlook

Well, from within outlook. . . ctrl+n. . .

but this seems too easy so I'd assume you want to do it outside of the program itself. . . at which point I'd either tell you to look up the command line parameters on google for making a new shortcut, or code some html and use it as an active desktop (with a a href mailto etc etc to null) so as to just click on your desktop in a certain spot and do it.

Also says that Trojan Horse PSW.Generic.EIS

It has been put in quarantine by AVG & Norton, however still freezes after a reboot, and I can't find the file anywere on my system

Thanks

Answer:Help pls : Keyboard freezes after keystroke.

welcome to tsf

try a :

Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd.

I don't quite understand how keystroke logging (by hackers) works, but got to thinking. If, instead of typing in my data (userid, password, acct number, etc), I cut and paste it from, say, Notepad, would a hacker's keystroke logging software be able to read it?

Answer:Will this foil KEYSTROKE LOGGERS?

It depends on the type of program being used. Some keyloggers only record keystrokes in which case the copy/paste method would circumvent it. Other programs are more advanced and can actually record screenshots of the copy/paste proceedure. Here is one example of one such trojan:

http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2005-052411-0618-99
If it were me, I would not feel at all secure with any type of logger on my system.

I live in a dorm room and have the sneaking suspicion that my roommate may be doing things on it while I am away. I do not want to go through the hassle of signing on/off every time i leave/return. I would, however, like to know if he is, so I was wondering if there is a program that allows you to see when keystrokes are made and the mouse is moved. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Keystroke/mouse tracker

You will find some Keylogging software a few free as well in this section http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads6.html I wouldnt know which one to advise you to use as I have not used any of these apps before personally.

One thing to note your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware software may alert you to a trojan/virus/malware when using a keylogger, this is normal.

Hi Major Geeks,

I have run the stuff I was supposed to including mgtools.exe

I had hoped I could figure out the log files but I better let you do it.

I didn't run AVG until last, and then it didn't give a report. I ran it over night last night and checked again in the morning to see that the right options were checked. Anyway it only found Adware.webupdates and a few cookies that must have popped back up since CCleaner.

However catchme.sys is on my system just since I came back to Major Geeks a couple days ago. Is it a worm or what?

And: too often after I type a letter there is a strange delay before it appears on screen. Is this a sign of trouble?

I hope that catchme.sys is the only thing I have to remove, and that you know just how to do it.

For the record I'm not a doctor despite my username.

Thanks!

Dunk

Answer:Catchme.sys and possible keystroke grabber

Please attach the requested log from ComboFix.

Why do you say Catchme.sys is on you system? Are you seeing it in a log? Don't confuse it with C:\WINDOWS\catchme.exe which is part of GMER and is used with ComboFix.

We have a new Windows 7 machine on which Ctrl + Alt + C doesn't register, al ALL.

When trying to assign that keystroke within an application, MS Word for instance, and we click in the text box that "captures" the keystroke NOTHING happens in the text box. Its almost as if the operating system is intercepting that keystroke before it gets to the apps.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Thank you,
Ken

Answer:Specific Keystroke not Working

Well I have just assigned Ctrl+Alt+C to Select Current Color and it works fine. What are you trying to assign it to? I'm using Word in Office 2003 though!

Answer:keystroke capture software?

I have at least researched all of the running programs, and with the exception of RISMXL.SYS the system looks pretty clean to me. I just would like some reassurance before I secure her computer with passwords etc. No point in locking it down with a password if her ex has keystroke capture on it (he's in the IT industry, hence her worry).

I would really appreciate it if someone with more experience than me (I got out of IT over 10 years ago but my girlfriends all think I know everything computer related!) would take a look at it.

Thanks,
Nancy

How do I find out what keystroke monitoring program is on our computer? I looked through all the programs but nothing looks familiar. I'm not sure if my password will work since my husband controls all of it but it's worth a try. Of course, searching will have to be at a minimum since he monitors the keystrokes.

Are there any programs out there that will let you assign ONE key to perform a function that would normally take a couple of keystrokes?

For instance, CTRL+F4 will close the active browser window. Is there a way to assign ONE key to do the same thing? Perhaps one of the F keys? Or, am I asking for too much here?

I am a lousey typer, and often if I have to hit the CTRL key along with another key I end up missing and hitting the shift key, the alt key etc...

I was just wondering if there are any programs to create a ONE keystoke action in place of the normal two or three.

Thanks

I have an Acer Aspire 5732Z running under Windows 7 Home Premium and the keyboard seems to have a mind of it's own. When I am typing, particularly into input boxes like this one letter randomly fail to register, very frustrating, mostly vowels.
If it were the same keys every time then I could be sure it is a harware fault, but this is not the case, even the space bar fails on occasion.

Can anybody help?

Answer:Keyboard not registering every keystroke

Just a guess, go to keyboard in Control and adjust the settings, for delay, put it near fast. Mine is about 3/4 of the way.

Has anyone ever seen a problem where any keystroke crashes explorer.exe?

A new roommate moved in, so I installed a wireless card in her PC. Haven't seen the computer working before, it was off when I got there, so I just installed it. Apparently she hasn't used it since she moved either, so not sure when this problem started. I assume it is not the wireless card since I've installed 3 of them in the last few weeks with no issues whatsoever.

The computer is an HP Pavilion, about a year old, P4 2.5GHz, 512 RAM, etc. running XP Home edition.

Symptoms in a nutshell are, literally, any keystroke crashes explorer.exe ... you know, the lovely little error window asking to send or not send the report to Microsoft. Straight from boot up, any keystroke causes this. The mouse seems to work fine. I noticed it first when I tried to enter the WEP key for the network, then realized it was happening even after a clean boot up before doing anything else.

I've never seen anything like this. Any thoughts?

Answer:Any keystroke crashes explorer.exe - XP

update the BIOS. Make sure you have all the motherboard drivers installed. you may even try a different keyboard (highly unlikely, but worth a shot) if you still have issues, try running a repair on windows through the setup cd.

I have a friend who has found, after having had her ID stolen, that she has a keystroke reading virus. She is taking care of her situation with redundant low level formats, restoration of her data from a previous date, and reconstruction of the data for the period she suspects brought in the virus. She exhausted all her tech resources prior to taking these steps, but nothing would even find the virus. She has several virus protection and detection programs on her computer, noone of them caught it, and no suggestions have proven successful

What's out there that reads keystrokes (virus-wise) and how do I prevent it?

Thanks.
