Preferred Solution: Hotmail account sending emails containing only a link

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys, my hotmail account has recently begun to send out spam mails (I know this because of the tons of Postmaster Delivery mails I get every morning. I have checked my outbox, and unfortunately I see that it is truly this account that is sending out the mails, and not merely a spoof. I have already changed my password, but can't tell whether it has made a difference as of now.

I have not been able to identify what is the trojan/worm responsible for this. I used Spybot Search and Destroy in both normal and Safe mode, but it didn't turn up anything of note. Would really appreciate your help and advice on this issue!

Cheers!

Hello. Recently, my hotmail account sent random emails to my contacts. This has happened before with me and I changed my password, and it was fixed but it is happening again now.

First step I took was contacted hotmail...and they looked into my running processes and told me: under the "user name", if it doesn't show your name, then someone is controlling your computer or in other words, they are running something on your machine. The technician pointed out a few processes:

1. atieclxx.exe
2. csrss.exe
3. winlogin.exe
4. VESMgrSub.exe

I googled these and some sites say they are malware/trojan and others say they are part of the computer.

So, in the end my questions are:
1. how did hotmail account sent those emails randomly?
2. Are these processes "ok" or are they really a threat to the computer?
3. If they are, what should I do to remove them.

Note: I do have Norton Anti-Virus software running.

Hi. I'm at something of a wit's end. I've had a situation for a bout a week where my Hotmail account has sent multiple emails to various members of my contacts list without my permission. I have changed my password on multiple occasions and am fairly confident that the problem is not one of my account being compromised in the traditional fashion.

I have run multiple Spyware/Malware removal tools to no avail and have Microsoft Security Essentials installed with definitions up-to-date.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Forwards seem to go but some of the letters that I write dont' go or are sent back. There is nothing wrong with the email address' I am sending to. I seem to be the only one having trouble with them. Hi,

I logged on to my work email this morning to discover I'd been sent an email from my girlfriends hotmail account. The email had been sent to me and everyone else in her hotmail contacts and all it contained was a brief statement that requested people to visit a website (which was blank). The thing is, the email was sent when I know for a fact my girlfriend wasn't logged onto hotmail – and she certainly never sent it or knows anything about it. Does anyone know why this has happened? Or has anyone else come accross this? She only ever accesses her hotmail account at home and no-one else could have used that computer.

Many thanks for any advice!

Answer:Hotmail sending hoax emails to all contacts - Can anyone help?

What is most likely to have happened is that her email address has been "harvested" from an infected computer on which the address was stored (from an incoming email). Or from any public forum or webpage where it may have been posted.

The harvested email has been used by a spammer or virus writer as a "spoofed" :From address, which only looks as if it came from her.

If the email website link was blank, it may have been an error by the perpetrator or the website may have actually contained some nasty script that you have protection against the vulnerability that it was trying to exploit.

There are a large number of permutation on the theme.

heya,

Well it looks like a worm or virus of some sort has got into my hotmail account and has sent emails to everyone on my contact list. Quite crude emails at that... which is very embarrassing for me.

I have looked at a few users that have suffered the same fate after searching it on Google and have seen that some have run the program "Malwarebytes". So I?m not sure if this helps, but below is the log. It found 3 infected files... they have been quarantined but I?m not sure how important they are in the running of the Windows OS.

My mum asked me today, why was I sending her spam mail and true enough, I checked my hotmail account and I've sent out 2 spam emails with links to a website.

In a panic I immediately changed my password and started virus scanning.
I have a paid NOD32 running on my machine, I also did a check with spybot and malwarebytes and all they found were some tracking cookies.
I also did a scan just before christmas with pandascan online scanner and that found nothing but cookies.

Now the only thing that's changed been then and christmas was me receiving a reconditioned Iphone 4, which has turned into a bit of a saga, the phone was sold by a reputable store chain, but when I tried to activate it on the 3 network, they told me the phone had been registered as "lost" so it had been blocked. I synced this phone up with my machine and itunes account before the truth came out.
Whether there's a connection I don't know.

I'm running windows 7 64-bit, but I did run gmer, most of the options were greyed out, but it didn't report anything suspicious.

I'm greatful for any help, I need to know how they got into my hotmail account

A couple of days ago I found 36 "Message undeliverable" messages in my AOL inbox, and yesterday another dozen. I just assumed that someone was cloning my email address to send out spam, as has happened a couple of times in the past, and that it would stop in a couple of days.
But last night my daughter phoned to ask if I had sent her an email with a link to a www. site (I hadn't). She said the CC line in the email contains a bunch of addresses which I recognise as being from my AOL address book, so it seems like the emails must actually be coming from my PC.
I've run Spybod S&D already, and it found seven "problems", all of which seemed to be tracking cookies. I'm running Malawarebytes at the moment but, while this is going on, any suggestions as to what infection I've got, and what's the best solution for removal, please?
I'm on Windows XP fully updated, and have Zone Alarm and Avast (fully updated) running all the time.

Answer:Something sending emails from my AOL account

Hi,

I've been receiving a dozen bounced back delivery failure notices to my email account for the past 3 days - [email protected] (this is representative) - such as the following.

I suspect that either my PC, smtp account or mail server has been compromised, but i'm not able to interpret via the bounced email whether the sender is just spoofing my email account. I've also tried to find a way to view outgoing mails on my Ensim server, but can't find a way.

The mail is a scam so i'm worried about legal consequences. Hope someone can help. Thank you.

My computer has been sending Spam emails to my contact list off and on for a couple of weeks now. I've run Avast antivirus and SuperAntiSpyware multiple times, but still the spam goes out. I am using Outlook to manage my email (several accounts setup, but only my msn.com account is affected). It seems my msn.com password may have been compromised as well since the spam sometimes gets sent when my computer is off. I've changed my msn.com password, but I can see that spam messages have also been sent directly from my PC since they are listed in the "Sent" folder.

Any help will be appreciated.

I do have a Windows XP Install CD, and my system drive is "E:".

Thanks, Doug

Hi BC mods,
For a while now, my hotmail account has been sending all sorts of spam on its own. It's become so frequent (several times daily) that my friends are on my case about it. I rarely use this particular account for e-mail purposes, but it is used on a daily basis for messenger, facebook among other things. It seems like a virus, but if my hard drive is to blame, it's too late because it's dead now. Can I fix this dilemma without having to delete my account???

Thanks,
The Seventh Son

Answer:Hotmail account sending spam automatically!

Hello The7thSon

It sounds like your account information may have become compromised. By far the safest, smartest, and most secure course of action would be to close that account. However, you may try simply changing your password. Make sure you use a clean computer (one that isn't infected with malware), and make sure to use a strong, complex password that you do not use elsewhere.

Alternatively, you can try contacting Hotmail and see what they recommend.

Hope that helps,

~Blade

Hi,

This morning when I logged in to my hotmail account I had several undeliverable e-mail messages in my inbox. When I looked at the sent items folder I saw that everyone on my contact list had received an e-mail message that I did not send. My anti-virus is working and updated and it did not find any infected files in my computer.

I have changed my password to a temporary one until I understand what's causing this and can make it stop. I have run all the diagnostic tools suggested on the "first step" thread and attached the files. I'm Running Windows 7 and I don't have the original DVD or a boot disk.

Here's a copy of the message sent to my contact list:

My Hotmail account has started sending out random spam mail to people who are listed in my contacts. One friend has had 15 of these emails in one day. The emails have no subject and only contain a weblink which is usually different with every mail sent out - e.g. http://caribbean-vacation-rent.com/indexi.html

As I am completely oblivious to these emails being sent and I have no control over them, I am at a loss as to what to do. Deleting the account completely would seem to be the sure way of stopping this but as I have that email address registered with a number of online forums etc. I am reluctant to do this.

Would removing my friend's email addresses from the contact list be a solution?

Answer:Solved: Hotmail account sending out spam

Not got hotmail, but I had the same thing happen with a Gmail account of mine, that I normally access through OE, so don't go into the web interface.

Turns out that someone in China had logged into it and sent spam to all the contacts. How they worked out the password is beyond me, presumably a security flaw in Gmail. But that's what I'd suspect. Hotmail, like Gmail, will let you check who logged in when and where from if you look at the bottom of the page (I guess).
You'll need to change yr password and security details. They already have yr address book so no point in deleting that.

My hotmail account sent out a spam message to all of my contacts. It also set my "away message" to the same spam message (which may have blocked my incoming emails temporarily). I changed my account password as soon as I found out what was going on (which I believe was the day after most of the spam emails were sent out) but I want to make sure this wasn't the result of malware (as opposed to just my password being compromised).

This is the email that was sent to all my contacts:

Hey,
how are you doing recently?
I would like to introduce you a very good company and its website is famuch.com. It can offer you all kinds of electronic products that you may be in need, such as laptops ,gps ,TV LCD,cell phones,ps3,MP3/4,motorcycles and etc........
You can take some time to have a check ,there must be something interesting you 'd like to purchase .

Hi there,

Ried from here recently resolved a case of WindowsRestore virus on my PC. You can see the thread here:

Windows Restore Virus- Any Advice Thanks?

However last night my hotmail account was hacked and a virus email was sent to all my contacts (without my knowing ofcourse). I have since changed my password.

Is this coincidence or are having the windows restore virus and having my account hacked connected? Ried did a great job cleaning my machine but could there have been something left over? Involving a keylogger maybe?

Thanks.

Hi, looking for some advice as to what to do next.

A Hotmail account has started sending spam messages. Each message is a single URL sent to groups of contacts, subjects changed between !, the date, Hello or blank. The Hotmail account is accessed via a browser (Google Chrome).

After closing the browser (after noticing the spam) and trying to log back in, received the message "It Looks like someone else may be using your account". Managed to reset password via a second e-mail address registered to the account (also Hotmail).
The Hotmail account is usually left open in a browser and the laptop hibernated.

I noticed my friend was sending out emails (hotmail) with no subject. It looks spoofed but its addressed to all his contacts.

The body only contained a single link to: somethingdifferenteachtime.WEB.COM.

He's has sent 3 so far all with a different web.com address.

Ive had him change his email password on a different computer and I took his comp to do the read me run first which I just finished.

Results:
It seemed the scans were clean with a couple of puzzling exceptions.

1. Rootrepeal would start to initialize then after several minutes bsod: MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION 0x0000009c (0x00000004, 0x80546E70, 0xB2000000, 0x00070F0F)
I ran it twice with the same result before moving on.

2. MGTools: clicking on the hijackthis accept button this error popped up twice: ModRegistry_IniGetString (sFile=System.ini, sSection=boot, sValue=Shell)
Error#5-Invalid Procedure call or arguement

Attached are the logs and Thanks for taking time to look. I truly appreciate it.

Answer:hotmail account sending out links to web.com addresses

You can remove this, unless you know what it is:
C:\Documents and Settings\Stook420\Application Data\984d7e

But that is all I see in your logs. If you have malware in your online mail provider, you will need to manually find and delete it.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)

Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
"%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall

Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat ... Read more

Answer:My email account is sending emails

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Please note that more than one round may be needed to properly eradicate malware. In co-operation with the cleaning process, please: do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to do so, to make it easier on us as it is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs;
do not run any tools or scans other than those requested;
follow all instructions in the order they are presented;
if you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, ask before continuing;
stay with this thread until given the All Clear, as absence of symptoms does not always mean the machine is clean;
do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad making sure the word wrap is unchecked. (In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.)
Also note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed.

Hi there,

I believe there is a virus sending emails through my AOL account. I noticed for the last 5 days, there have been ~10 emails sent a day to random people in my contact list with a webaddress to random google sites. I have run multiple virus scans including McAfee, Norton, and Housecall and have found nothing on my system. I haven't noticed any weird processes running either. I can change my password; however, it seems the person who has gotten into my account has changed my secret question as to gain access when needed. I am in the middle of sorting that out with Aol. I do have a hijackthis log; however, I do not see anything in it that shouldn't be there.

Thanks!

Steve

Something is sending emails to people in my email contact list. It looks like these emails are coming from me but I am not sending them. The message generally says that I have found a good shopping site or a good place to buy things and then gives a link to click on.
I have gone to all my email accounts and deleted all my contacts but these emails are still being sent. How can I stop this?

I have myself listed in my address book so that I can save documents for school in my email account. I don't have any of the viral emails in my 'sent' box but they keep getting sent to me, from 'me'. They only contain a link. I imagine it's the virus. It hasn't hurt anything yet but its frustrating. And what if somebody else opens the link and it hits their computer too?! I don't know how to stop it or who to report it to. I can't find a Yahoo button for 'report a problem' so what do I do?

I have seen a few posts on this but they have all been closed due to lack of feedback. This has happened to me about 3 times now, I get a whole lot of Delivery Failure reports in my Hotmail inbox that tell me the following email couldn't be sent. It appears to have tried to send this message to everyone in my contacts list, and in some cases successfully. It's very embarrassing.Hey friend,How are you these days?I got a nice webiste ,that guys sell lots of laptops |cell phones| PS3 | cameras and so on,which are brand new and original,But the price is so cheap and quality is nice. The international shipping is door to door ,more accurate ,more security!Go and check it : www.eleRUSH.com MSN: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected] have changed my email account password as this seems to be the only advice that Windows live can offer, other than the usual "how to keep yourself safe" stuff.Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can stop this from happening again? Thanks

Answer:Hotmail account sending out spam to my contacts list

Unless you are absolutely certain that the E-mail is actually coming from your computer, it would be more likely that someone else's computer is infected and the malware found your E-mail address there. And too, spammers often mask their stuff as if it came from an E-mail daemon, since most ISPS do not filter that address.

Hello,

A friend of mine is having a problem that I am aware of because I am on the receiving end! He has an email account with AOL for years and I'm sure he doesn't want to lose it. Yesterday, I received four emails from his email address that he didn't sent.

Comparing who they went to, each group was a bit different but I was in all four.

What does he do now? He is worried about any compromise to his AOL account and when I checked with AOL they were quick to call it "spoofing." He's got a lot at stake so he needs to make the right decision with your help!

Thank you for your time!

I created a email distribution list from my AOL account and some of the folks from the list are receiving the following email, sometimes several times in the same day. The list is legitimate, the subject line is legitimate but the message is not one that I sent nor does it show up in my sent file. How do I stop this from happening?

Dear Sir/Madam,

Your email was unable reach the intended person that you were sending it to.

Regards,
Webmaster
As background, please know that my PC had lots of viruses on it (including the unfixable virut virus) and just this week I had it erased and then reloaded with Windows XP operating system. I also installed the ESET NOD32 Antivirus program that runs constantly. I found out about the fake emails yesterday, came home changed my password to the account but this morning one of the folks on the distribution list told me they got 7 emails like the one above.

I could not find on AOL a way to fix or report this problem. I would appreciate anyone's help. Thanks!

Answer:AOL account hijacked and sending false emails

Hello,

Your e-mail address was likely compromised. There are only two possibilities of getting this fixed: 1) See if your e-mail provider will change your user name for you while keeping the account itself or 2) If they refuse, create a new e-mail account and close the present one.

Just for starters download this freebie (green icon top right of webpage), install it, then run the quick scan:http://www.filehippo.com/download_m...My hope is that it might at least stop it doing so temporarily but almost certainly more attention will be necessary. Hi there,

I'm hoping somebody can help!

My Hotmail account has been copromised in some kind of way. It keeps sending out e-mails with the subject of 'Hi' and the base of the message includes a link to a site called easybuyshopcn.com. I also lost all my e-mails in my inbox for the last 2 months. I scanned my computer using Norton, Spybot S + D and Lavasoft Ad-Aware and have cleared all of the results but it still seems to be sending these e-mails out automatically.

I have done a scan using Hijack This and have attached the log file.

If anyone can help at all, I'd be really graetful.

Thanks for taking the time to read...

Rob.

You need to specify whether you use Hotmail on the web (ie you only use their website for Hotmail) or you have set it up to use with an email client (eg Office Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird) on your computer.

I've scoured the Internet for solutions, and while I've given countless attempts to no avail, I want to give this one last try.

I've mainly tried to use Outlook 2002 (as that's the version I have) by connecting it to my original email account. That went smoothly. Then I exported all my messages to a .pst file. Though that had some hiccups along the way, that also went smoothly. I then connected Outlook 2002 to my new email address - it received the few messages that were already there, so that was fine.

I then imported my original email messages via the .pst file into my new account (still in Outlook). All the emails showed up, in the right folders and perfect. The only problem now, is getting the Hotmail web client to recognize these.

I also forwarded all the messages as attachments as one email message and tried moving the attachments, but (though this sounds incredibly picky), it did not preserve the timestamps.

I've seen Windows Live Mail and am reluctant to use it, though I will if I have no other choice.

So, if there's any way at all to transfer my email messages -no matter how long-winded- that'd be great! If not, I'll have to cope with Live Mail or some other client, or without those timestamps.

If it's relevant, I am running Windows XP (SP2). If there are any other details I need to/should provide, I'm perfectly willing.

Thanks in advance!

Lumia521 May we know what error prompt, if any, are you encountering?
Whenever I encounter syncing problems, I just quickly turn Airplane mode on and off, effectively resetting all data connections (either both 3G (4G) and WiFi or either 3G (4G) or WiFi). In a few moments, all my email accounts (and other apps) begin syncing successfully.

All

as suggested by elfasso, below is the dds log for my pc (windows xp home sp2) - as stated in the topic description, i did have remote access issues that i believe have been resolved (changed yahoo password and all account access/notification info), but now am suspect of anything that may be associated with said invasion (virus, botted, ?) that still may be alive inside of my machine....

i scrubbed it out with as many antivirus and maleware programs as i could find free 30 day susbscritions for (norton, eset, avast, superantispyware, malewarebytes) as well as the most recent microsoft malicious removal tool...

this probably should not be considered as a top priority problem, but if one of you experts find a few minutes to go over the dds log and let me know if you think I'm still open to any potential threats, i'd really appreciate it...
be forewarned that i do use utorrent for music downloads as I'm sure that'll be a potential problem right off the bat...

thanks again and cheers!

Hi

I am running Windows XP Home SP2 - Problem started June 9 10:44am...my personal yahoo email account sent out emails to all of my contacts in my Yahoo email account with links that were found to either contain a trojan horse or send anyone who clicked on the link to a site with a trojan horse. There was no subject in the email, simply a link. I was running Avast anti-virus at the time. I have since ran Avast, Norton, Eset Nod32, and the Windows Malicious software removal tool as well as both SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes - all run in both regular and safe mode.

Avast found Java:Agent-AXI and sucessfully removed it...then after running Norton AV, a suspected virus was detected in sdfix.exe and sucessfully removed...then after running Superantispyware, i received trojan detections in C:\i386\compimpxml.dll and c:\windows\system32\compimpxml.dll both were sucessfully removed, then I ran the Windows Malicious Detection software and it found and removed Trojan JS:\Hiloti.E and JS:\Hiloti.F...

well, during all of this work, my damn PC somehow sent out 2 more spam emails (one Sunday Night at 8:26 and another just today at 4:22) to all of my contacts once again containing links infected with trojan horses! So since June 9, my PC has sent out 3 different trojan horse email to all of my yahoo account contacts...
BELOW IS A COPY/PASTE OF THE LINK I WAS SENT BY THIS VIRUS:

My computer may have been hacked or picked up some kind of virus. Some of the people on my contact list have received emails with nothing in the subject line that were sent from my computer. They contain a link selling viagra and cialis. I found a posting on this forum of someone in the past that had the same problem and I did what it said to do (run Malwarebytes' Anti-malware, then start the computer in save mode and run ATF-Cleaner and SUPERantispyware, then rebooted and copied the log. I am posting the scan log below as the previous post suggested. How can I stop this? This is causing so many issues! It is sending these emails to corporate big wigs at my husbands company! I have 2 Hotmail accounts with MSN. My primary account I pay for (MSN Plus or something) & the other is basic and free. I'm paid up on the primary account.
I have 2 IBM Thinkpads, a T41(XP Pro) & a T21(Windows 2000). I opened Outlook Express this morning & found 1 new email-- from eBay (it had my correct user name so I don't think it is a spoof). I tried to delete it but it wouldn't delete. A window says: An Unknown Error Has Occured. So I closed Outlook Express & accessed my primary Hotmail account through the internet. I tried to delete the message there. It seemed to delete and got as far as the trash but when I tried to empty it, it re-appeared in its original place-- as an unopened email. I was not able to delete any other emails.
I was able to send an email to my secondary Hotmail account.
But when I opened the secondary account & sent an email to my primary account, it was not received. Also, I always receive an email from Dictionary.com with a new word each morning and nothing came. So I'm concluding that somehow my primary Hotmail account is stuck or blocked.
Any suggestions are deeply appreciated. Thanks! -M

Answer:Solved: My hotmail account is stuck, not receiving emails

Turns out it was a glitch on their end. the problem persisted throughout the morning but "magically" cleared up. I believe it was some problem with their server.

My wife has 2 hotmail accounts (.co.uk and .com) . She can access them via a PC, her android phone and ipad, the ipad being her primamry source. However there have been 2 instances in the last week where emails have been received and show on the phone and the PC, but not the iPad. As you can imagine, this is more than frustrating. Any clues or solutions would be more than appreciated.
Thanks

I have a IMAP Hotmail account running on Outlook 2007 and suddenly it doesn't delete emails when I use the delete function on the toolbar and only sometimes deletes when I use the keyboard delete key, only then after going to another folder and coming back to my in box. I have tried running Account Setting again, even reloading my account. I used my Office 2007 disc to delete Outlook and reload it and still the problem persists. I have used Outlook 2007 and Hotmail for years without this problem. Has Windows 10 done something in an update that might cause this or what else could be my problem?

I'm using a Hotmail (now Windows Live Mail) account. Recently I deleted (permanently) some slanderous emails. Now I need to recover those emails to be presented as evidence in a criminal case. I've contacted Windows Live Support in every way I can.

Anyone here can offer me any help/advice?

Answer:Recovering deleted emails from Hotmail account for use in criminal case

Ask your Lawyer to help you. If Hotmail has any backup and they are given a court order then they will have to turn it over.

For the past week, since 8/18/2004, E-mail that I send to Yahoo and Hotmail via Outlook Express 6, is being delayed. It is only certain addresses. It is taking up to 2 days and occassionally there is a mail failure. Hotmail sends me messages that the mail is being delayed and not to resend, but the recipient never receives it. My E-mail address is not blocked. When I send via internet, all is well. I have no other problems sending or recieivng to others.

Any thoughts?

MS Office Outlook sending emails but no emails to send? I have added a few new accounts to my outlook and have had nothing but problems since. It is important that I keep these emails in my outlook, because I work from home and need to access these accounts. I have recently noticed, whenever I hit send receive, the number rises everyday, which now has me concerned. Each account has a different amount "sending", but nothing is in the outbox. IE: account A: sending 1 of 135, Account B: sending 1 of 1020 and so on. I also read online somewhere that if I was a torrent user, that "is" my problem, but I have stopped using it for weeks and there is no traffic going in or out, and I've turned the program off completely.

I've used Outlook for years, with many accounts and have never had problems. I've noticed more problems since this 'sending' message has started. I also noticed, I was the ONLY one at work not getting any SPAM for at least 2 yrs, UNTIL, I took a few days off, went back to work and BAM, hit with SPAM. Its a bloody nuisance because my accounts are linked with "rules and alerts", so if one is infected, all others follow behind! Has one or all of my accounts been compromised? If so, can it be fixed?

Hi everyone

I tried to use Outlook 2002 to access my hotmail. I used the POP3 settings, got it to work, and hit send/receive. Now none of my emails from my Inbox are in my hotmail account when I use my web login. Why did it do this and how do I reverse it? I tried to find some answers on the Microsoft site but they give pretty generic answers there. The answers I've got here in the past were much better.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Answer:Hotmail + Outlook 2002 = no emails at Hotmail site

Try going to Tools > Email Accounts > View or change existing accounts > Select your account and click Change > Click More Settings > Advanced tab. From here there should be a check box that allows you to set whether you want your emails to be left on the server.

I just checked my emails to find an email from myself, claiming to be from Paypal saying I need to update my payment information. Now obviously I haven't clicked the link or anything, but does anyone know how this could have happened? I'm running a full AVG scan on my main computer now and afterwards I will change my Microsoft password, but I'm still incredibly worried as I'm extremely careful with my passwords etc.
This is also a warning to anyone else out there getting a similar thing, DO NOT CLICK THE LINK

Hello,

Here in the UK, Orange turned off their email address system. I have a GMail account and want to use this in Outlook 2007.

However, I have a POP account which receives but does not send. It is for this reason, I use the GMail account from which to send, but then make my Return address to be that of my POP address.

Anyway, GMail is an IMAP account and Outlook tries to send mail from the POP account as opposed to the Defaulted IMAP GMail account.

For Outlook 2010, 2013, etc, there are Registry fixes for this. I cannot for the life of me find a Registry fix for 2007. Does it exist, with instruction?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Win 7, Office 2007 etc etc.

Answer:Outlook 2007 - Make IMAP account default sending account

I have moved a few people off of orange over the last few weeks and then closed down the account on outlook 2007 and 2010

If you have the old orange still set as default account - change to the gmail account as default
also switch off the send and receive - not needed for IMAP

otherwise , not sure what you are trying to do

You can also delelte the account and the POP email will remain - BUT backup and test the PST file first

I can’t access my HOTMAIL accounts- HOTMAIL support?

I learned about Microsoft’s new policy of not allowing you to send email from Hotmail using it’s own products Outlook and Outlook Express unless you are paying an additional fee, when I replied to a (Hotmail) email while using OE. After sending my reply I received an error message that OE could not access the account. It then proceeded to DELETE all my previous email message in outlook express for this account.

A web search then led me discover that this account was one of those now requiring payment of a fee to send mail using Outlook or OE instead of logging on to the website. (They are doing this in stages so some HOTMAIL accounts still allow the free use and access with Outlook/OE.)

I then tried to sign on to my account using another Microsoft product Internet Explorer- initially everything looked unchanged,

1. however after typing in my name and password instead of opening my account

2. I got a new screen of “scrambled letters” designed to prove that a person and not a machine is accessing my account.

3. I type in these scrambled letters and one of two things happens:

a. (Usually) I receive yet another screen of scrambled letters to input

b. (Occasionally) I receive the “sign in screen” again EITHER WAY

4. Whichever screen I receive- whether I input scrambled letters yet again or insert my name and password the process repeats itself and one of two things happens:

I've never used Outlook or Outlook Express in any form my self, so I can only offer some limited suggestions for sorting this out.

First: have you tried deleting all cookies and accessing the account? If using XP/2k -- it may even be helpful to try creating a new User Profile and logging in under that, this will ensure you have an entirely new web cache, index.dat and cookie folder.

Try accessing the account from another computer and see if you get in that way.
