Preferred Solution: Services.exe - Application Error. The Application Failed To Initialize (0xc0000005)., Windows Xp Professional Sp2

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I was brought a machine the other day from a friend who got it from a house she was cleaning...so of course there is no telling why they left it behind as it is souped up with all the fans, lights, and amd EP-8KHA motherboard with the counter on it...which when I first loaded it..it took forever the boot screens came up then the wonderful....Services.exe - Application Error. I went through the prompts of ending it...then 20 mins or so later windows finely loaded but the start menu was gone....at first the whole desktop was just the blue screen but my patients in letting it load I finely had icons but still no start menu...I found that someone had removed nortan...so there is no anti-virus on it....well I tried to load AVG on a CD that I burned off my PC and load it...along with Spy-bot, ad-aware SE, and a few other programs to see if I could get some of the tried but true to repair any virus, malware and such off. Well to no avail did any of the programs load...so I had noticed that when I tried going into user accounts to see if this account had admin. privileges the user accounts never loaded. Doing some investigating I found on Microsoft that I could make another account with admin privileges and that it should load....NOPE....I got the account created but when I tried to log into it no windows just a blank screen...Ctrl.Alt.Delete. brings up the task manager on network I see that it says that the INTERNET is run... Answer:Services.exe - Application Error. The Application Failed To Initialize (0xc0000005).

Well...it seems to me (I may be misreading) but that system belonged to a unnamed 3d party, which had the operating license.

If I had found such system, the first thing I would have done is wipe it clean (because I don't like using someone else's data which they've decided to trash) and to give myself a good start at seeing if the system worked properly.

Then I would have done a clean install.

That's the only way that I know how to go from a series of unknowns...to a known good, working system.

Worst case scenario: The system is highly infected.

Best case scenario: The system has O/S or malware problems or a combination thereof.

I have seen several postings on this topic, but it seems that every one is a little different, so I am posting my dilemma. I am sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place.
As of about 10 days ago, several programs will not open. Instead, I get the error window that states "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application." As far as I can tell, this error message affects these programs: Ultraplayer, Windows Media Player, Sound Recorder, Logitech Setpoint, Quicktime Player, Real One Message Center, and Total Recorder.

My computer is a desktop, HP Pavilion a1020n. Windows XP Home Ed., SP 3. Windows updates are current. Run Avast antivirus software and usually have Windows Firewall turned on.

Here's what I've tried:
Tried to uninstall and reinstall several programs. Uninstall usually won't happen. Have tried new installs over the old, but it doesn't "take."
10 days ago - went back to a restore point. Did no good.
Have run Lavasoft Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy several times, including today (May 2). Today Ad-Aware found and removed a few items from the families of Cookies, Win32 Trojan Spy, and Win32 Tr\.\per Delf. Spybot found nothing today.
Have run CCleaner to clean up registry.
Ran Hijack This and saved the log. I can post it if it is needed.

I've considered reformatting the hard drive, but really don't want to resort to that.

I don't kno... Read more

Sorry guys I'm new here and I don't know much about computers so I decided to post this question here in General Chat.Well this is the problem:the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. (it pops up twice)I've researched this topic on Google and I have noticed a lot of other people have had the same problem but I think this is a special case.See, whenever I turn on my laptop on everything goes well and even gives me the option of selecting F2 to to configure things on the computer. But when I get to the main page where I'm supposed to log in this message pops up:the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. So then I try to click Ctrl, Alt, and Del to open up the task menu but nothing happens. I noticed the keys are not unresponsive because when I click Caps Lock the little light flashes on.So please can somebody help me out with this huge problem, or is my laptop over and done with?EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forumWe'll just assume XP-MG

Ok whoever can fix my comp is a total geek

Well yesterday i was normally doing stuff on my computer and accidentally uninstalled something i didn't think i needed (and I'm not sure if its causing the problem either) so it said to uninstall the program you had to restart your comp, which of i did of course. Then a error popped up saying explorer.exe the application failed to initialize properly error Oxc0000005 . I know explorer.exe is a process that shows everything like your icons and start menu and wallpaper etc. so i couldn't see any icons and had to use task manager to open FF and now I'm here typing this post.
So can any of you had this problem or can help? I would appreciate it so much

PS: the think i uninstalled was IE 8 from add/remove programs and Internet explorer from add/remove windows components

Hello justmebeingme;

According to this link: Urgent - The application failed to initialize properly - 0xc0000005

You problem could be the Trojan "Haxdoor". It was suggested that AdAware could find and remove it.

Also suggested is to boot to safemode with networking and go to the Panda live scan web site: FREE ANTIVIRUS - Download ActiveScan 2.0 and clean your PC - PANDA SECURITY
and let Panda scan your computer and remove the Trojan.

Hope this helps!

Hi -

0xc0000005 is an NT STATUS exception code = memory access violation

Usually I see 0xc..5 exceptions related to 3rd party firewalls. What anti-virus package do you have and does it have a firewall?

Hi all,

Few days ago my computer got the Trojan.Vundo. Norton 2003 pro didn't manage to prevent but also to remove the virus. I uninstaleld Norton and I install a trial version of NOD32. Today, I scanned again my hard disc and no threads were found. But still dll files of the Trojan existed. I went to startup and I deactivated the: kdfgj83ke.dll, mlDJwVmJ.dll and nnnlmMcd.dll files that were spoted as files of the virus. When i rebooted by pc, I received the message: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)". It appears 2 times after I login and then I can see only the background. Nothing else. I tried safe mode, safe mode with network, VGA, recover system in previous condition. But nothing worked.

I have XP SP2, 2,99 GHZ, 500MB RAM

Thanks

Answer:The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)

Why did you uninstall Norton?

I hope you realize ANY AntiVirus Utility CANNOT protect you against a virus it does not know about yet. That's why you must update your antivirus protection daily.

This is also why you are most vulnerable if you are online all the time. This maximizes the opportunity of getting infected BEFORE an Malware utility can protect you.

From you post, this is what happened to you. The virus infected your system before Norton had it in its protection file, but it did find-remove after the protection update.

Also, are you running an additional Anti-Spyware utility? You should. This is required by my Corporate IT on all desktops. In the division I am IT Tech for, I use Spybot Search & Destroy (donationware), one of several listed by corporate. I have used this at home for years, since my Win98 days, and it's well known and reliable. But note that the limitations that apply to AntiVirus utilities also apply with Anti-Spyware utilities, cannot protect you against spyware that arrives before they know about it.

To maximize your protection, do NOT stay on-line all the time. Shut down your PC or log-off the desktop. Even if you use broadband network connection, there is an easy you can logoff just like a DialUp connection.

Here's how:In Network Connections, right-click the connection and check BOTH boxes in the General tab (see the network icon in Toolbar Tray all the time)
Now drag a SHORTCUT to the network connection where you want it (D... Read more

Hi Guys,

So I have been having this issue with a program crashing and displaying a error message. Also just a note, When the icon to start the application is clicked the program automatically displays the error. So I never actually get into the application. The error message reads "application failed to initialize properly 0xc0000005" (0xc0000005 means an access violation memory error occurred)

Now this is odd because the program works on other computers(of all different types)amd64, amd64x2, Intel core2duo, Intel celeron D, and a regular Intel P4 board. All with various different rams and such, leading me to assume this is not a hardware problem.

I have tried to use the built in program error debugger in windows "Dr. Watson" to get a error log. but for some reason the program does write to the file.

If anyone knows of any common problems associated with this error or fixes for it, please let know.

-Thanks

Answer:the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)

Hello, and welcome to TSF.

Have you tried to defragment or run scandisk? You could also have a bad RAM module. If you can, try to defrag and scandisk first. If neither will run and/or you run them successfully and still have problems then my first suspect would be RAM.

You could open your case and see if you have two or more RAM modules. If you have more than one, you could remove all but one and try to run your computer. If the problem persists then remove the one that was left in and replace it with one of the modules that you removed. Repeat this process with each RAM module one at a time until you have tested all of them. If at some point the computer works then you have found the bad RAM and you can replace it.

If you are uncomfortable opening your case then download and run memtest86. If you test the RAM and have a bad module you will still have to open your case to replace any bad modules but at least you will have an idea of the root of your problem.

You might need to borrow somebody's computer at this point, preferably a PC with a CD burner. Do a google search for memtest86. The first link in the search results will take you to their web page. In the black sidebar click 'free download'. The first link will be 'ISO image for creating bootable CD (Windows - zip)'. Click that and download and burn the ISO.

Place the disk in the malfunctioning computer and reboot the computer. The PC should see it during the boot process and begin to run th... Read more

This is my son's computer, and I had someone "fix it", they gave it back, and claimed to have removed the virus, and it looked like, I didn't really look at it too much....but then my son said he couldn't open up programs, ect......I am now wanted to figure out what I can do to fix it. I don't want to take it back to where I took it. Please help!!! I ran the fixiedef, and the combo fix, still receiving error when trying to open programs(like Office). Here are the logs and sysinfo.

Answer:Application Failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Please download (save) SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your desktop. SmitfraudFix runs under W2K, XP only.

Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop. Select all of the contents and Extract them
to a new folder called SmitfraudFix.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Running Vista Home Premium SP 1 64 bit...cannot open any *.exe file. I have tried right clicking and having it run as administrator. I have also tried to run hijackthis, but get "Installation directory must be on a local hard drive". The only drive available is the local hard drive.
I have no problems getting into the registry, but am not sure what to look for.
I have tried in safe mode as well. No luck there either.
TrendMicro Antivirus is installed on machine, but does not find anything.
I tried to do a system restore, but that did not help either.
Any help would be appreciated...thanks in advance

Answer:Solved: 0xc0000005 Application failed to initialize properly

Hi Guys,

So I have been having this issue with a program crashing and displaying a error message. Also just a note, This problem is happening on a windows xp pro machine. When the icon to start the application is clicked the program automatically displays the error.

-Thanks

Hello there lucky,

I am an engineer and i just came across the same problem. If I find out before you I will come back here and post the answer. If you find out please email me. I should think I will have the answer within 24 hours though.

Guessing it's just missing/corrupted windows files but some peeps have same error with single apps such as ie. and they say it's a virus.

Watch this space (or let me know, lol).

Hello,

We've got a system here where IE will not open up. I've reinstalled the software, but that had no affect. I've seen the issue mentioned through some searching, but haven't found a solution posted anywhere so I figured I'll submit one myself.

I've run a full AV scan (McAfee) and a full Spyware scan (Ewido)

Houston, I have a problem. It started yesterday when attempting to log on to a user account, McAffee states that it detected a virus and recommends a scan. I click 'ok' once or twice and the following message appears: application failed to initialize (0xc0000005).

After reading through some of your posted solutions, I had to C-A-D to get task manager up so I could run Microsoft Anti-Spyware. It detected one and I removed it. I then started a McAffee scan and it found another one (maybe more, but I fell asleep waiting for it to finish). When I logged back in, McAffee was saying the same thing, I C-A-D and a c:\ window appears saying c:\WINDOWS\temp\setup.exe

It has been like this for 45+ minutes. I can attempt to shut it down, and it asks if you're sure (which I am not) so I cancelled out to let it run. The cursor inside the c:\ box appears to be moving around every 30 to 90 seconds. . . leading me to believe that it is doing something.

When I fire McAffee backup, I cannot find the one file it found before I fell asleep (not in quarentine anyway).

Any recommendations?

Answer:Windows Xp Application Failed To Initialize (0xc0000005); Then C:\windows\temp\setup.exe Running Forever

PS Earlier this week I had to install NAV fixabwiz to rid my self of a trojan virus. After running following its instructions to disable windows auto-restore and running it, the laptop did behave okay for a day or two.

Sorry guys I'm new here and I don't know much about computers so I decided to post this question here in General Computer Security.

Well this is the problem:

the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. (it pops up twice)

I've researched this topic on Google and I have noticed a lot of other people have had the same problem but I think this is a special case.

See, whenever I turn on my laptop on everything goes well and even gives me the option of selecting F2 to to configure things on the computer. But when I get to the main page where I'm supposed to log in this message pops up:

the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

So then I try to click Ctrl, Alt, and Del to open up the task menu but nothing happens. I noticed the keys are not unresponsive because when I click Caps Lock the little light flashes on.

So please can somebody help me out with this huge problem, or is my laptop over and done with?

Hi all,

I had an issue earlier in the week (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/601342/embedded-windows-xp-crash-after-boot/) with a PC that running chkdsk managed to resolve.

Once I was back into the windows environment I decided to run a backup utility.

However, when I tried to install the software it ran into an error during the install and stopped the installation and then automatically undid the installation.

The computer then hung so I had to reboot.

Upon rebooting the system got as far as the Windows XP splash screen before rebooting again.

I managed to switch off the automatic reboots and then the system reported an error with iertutil.dll

Via the Recovery Console I managed to replace iertutil with a good copy and now the system boots but gives me the following message box:

services.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005).Click on OK to terminate the application.

However, I can't click OK as the keyboard and mouse don't work (they are plugged into the USB ports and there must not be any power on them as there's no red light under the optical mouse).

The very same thing happens in Safe Mode too so I can't run in Safe Mode.

Booting to last known good configuration does exactly the same too.

I ran chkdsk /r again but that didn't help.

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this?

Many thanks :-)

I am getting the following error when attempting to run Interenet Explorer:

Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

I am running Windows 2000 Professional. Internet Explorer 6.0.

I'm not sure what other information would be necessary to help diagnose the problem, so excuse my ignorance for that. . . but let me know if there is more information I should provide.

Thanks!

STOP: c oooo 145 {application error. The application failed to initialize properly (0x 0000005). Click OK to terminate application. The above message is what I receive, when I run "error check". It was advised from the Microsoft website that I ran ERROR CHECK, along with "disk cleanup" & "defrag" analysis, to see if the machine needs to be defragged.I went along with the advised procedures by Microsoft, because it was said that the computer would run faster. I've been doing the ones that worked, defrag analysis, disk clean up & CC Cleaner. Along with those maintenance tasks, I update all the definitions on the malware software. With the aforementioned error message problem with the lap top, I also have a problem with Adobe Reader (listed in another topic), that I can't uninstall it, without getting a 'Error 1402' message. Then the one last problem is the cursor jumping around at random times, when I am typing to either the forum or in a Word document. I mention these other issues because I am not sure they're not related. This is a DELL Inspiron 1520, Centrino (2007). I have another laptop, a 5150 Inspiron, with a P4 chip, and it absolutely has no issues. It hasn't even caught a virus. I don't use it as much now, but in the past I took it everywhere. It is heavy & the fan was on the bottom, so I built a stand out of PVC pipe & fittings. It kept the laptop off of the surface so it could get air circulati... Read more

Answer:STOP: c oooo 145 {application error. The application failed to initialize properly (0x 0000005).

What steps are you taking to run the check?

That error seems to indicate a hard drive problem, which is why it was suggested to run chkdsk /r.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new screen and hit Enter. Reboot the system. The command should execute, before booting into XP.

I was on my computer this morning. I shut down the computer and then this evening when I turn the computer on I get the following message:

Application Error The application failed to initialize properly. (0xc00000006). Click ok to terminate the application

I click okay I get a blank desktop - so I cannot run system restore. I have tried starting the computer in safe mode but I get the same message. I do not have any discs to re-install anything because when I bought my laptop I was told that all that stuff is built in. I have a compaq presario, windows xp. I am currently using my husbands laptop to try and figure out what to do. Can someone please help me?

Hi There

I have been given a friends computer to fix. The way he described it, it sounded like it was full of Malware etc, however I haven't been able to start it up as I get the following message appearing when I power it up.

userinit.exe - Application Error The Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click ok...

This message appears twice, I then get the wallpaper of the computer up, but nothing else, no icons or task bar. I have tried a wee trip to safe mode but don't get anywhere from that either, just the same message.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Cheers

Colin

I get the topic title message each time I boot up.  The full message is "MSASCui.exe Application error. This application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0000034). Click on OK to terminate the app."  One other message also appears each boot-up, beginning with "msmsgs.exe App error" etc.  What do I do?  I've tried system restore, re-downloading programs that appear to be affected (CCleaner, for example).  Thanks in advance.

Hi All,

I recently purchased a new laptop and I have had this error occur almost since the start.

Basically, when I switch on my laptop, both bttray.exe and GrooveMonitor display the exact same error(bar the application name in the title) - I have also tried to install AVG Free which comes up with the same error when trying to start.

The error is:

BTTray.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc150004). Click OK to terminate the application.

I am running Microsoft? Windows Vista? Ultimate 6.0.6001.1.1252.44.1033.18.3066.1940

I haven't tried anything to correct this as I wouldn't know where to start.
Any help anyone can provide would be highly appreciated,

Thank you in advance,

Joe

This started off as just PRO Tools (audio recording software) getting froze when opening certain sessions
then I did the 'trashing preferences" and now everytime I try to launch
PT (8.0.3 LE, on Windows XP) I keep getting that message.
Have also set the DEP on and off, still nothing.
Everything else on my rig is working and launching fine (like Acid, other programs)
just not PT, wondering if I should uninstall and reinstall or what?
Thanks in advance, I've already lost 2 work days over this and the sleep in between !!!!

Hi,

After scouring the internet for countless hours i have decided to look for help here. I have had this problem lately with a few programs, most recently sibels 5 music notation software: When i install the program, the installation process seems to go smoothly enough, but when i go to start up the program i get the error message "The apllication failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the program" Popping up twice and then nothing happens.

I have tried reinstalling the program, doing a system restore, scanning my computer for spyware/viruses (just in case:P) and running the program in different compatibility modes but so far they all produce the same original result of giving me that error message.

Any ideas on how to solve this predicament? All help appreciated.

Hello - I wrote an application in VB6 suppose 'APP_X'. which i am running every night using a service called 'WinService_Y' running as admin user. Now in APP_X, I am using net.exe to sync time
with server.

When the WinService_Y triggers the APP_X, it gives me the error saying:

"The application failed to initialize properly(0xc0000142). click ok to terminate the application"

Okay, title of the dialog box is Net.exe so i know this occured when APP_X is trying to execute Net.exe.

P.S: This does not occur if i directly run the APP_X without using the WinService_Y

APP_X is written in VB6 and WinService_Y is in C# .net framework 2.0

APP_X is just not time sync there are tons of other things

Sync time Code APP_X(sample):

WriteLog "Trying to sync with admin account"
    Set objexec = objShell.Exec(sAppToRun)

    If sOut = "" Then
ShellAndWaitAsUser = CreateProcessAsUser(".", "Myuser", "MyPassword", Trim(sAppToRun))

I have Windows XP Media Edition....i think this is virus related, but when i load my computer and logon onto and account an error message comes up and says Userinit.exe-application failed to initialize in 0xc0000005 it also says this on some of the other programs how do i fix this?

Answer:Error message-application failed to intialize 0xc0000005

if you have the original windows XP discs you may find the following might work.

1. insert the original windows install disc
2. when the computer starts up, at the very start look for any options like "press F8 for boot options" in any case we want to boot from the windows XP CD
3. after that has finished loading, run the recovery console
4. you shall most likely be asked to specify which windows installation to fix, choose the first (and most likely only) one
5. when you are in the recovery console, type: "CHKDSK /r", without the quotation marks

this shall, assuming i have given the instructions correctly, attempt to fix your windows installation without completely removing the current non working one.

let me know how it turns out, if it doesnt work i can direct you to some diagnostic tools to run.

It shows the faulting application is "svrhost.abc", which is not a valid application filename. You probably have a malware infection ans should post a thread in the Malware Removal forum.

Hi,
Ive noticed that last couple of times I have been infected with a virs or a trojan, when I go try to execute an application, I get the following error

" application failed to initialize"

and it will not run.

Does anyone know what causes this? Is there a way to trap this error and see what caused it? is there any logs that would give insight into why this is occuring? If a virus puts malicious code in the operating system to cause this, where would it be or what might it look like?

I am doing more and more investigation into how viruses work and also how to detect them better. any help on this or maybe any websites that would help me would be appreciated. thanks.

Computer is on for 24 hrs. +- and the keyboard & mouse become unresponsive. (before that 24 hrs. the machine runs great) If I'm able to open a program a typical message error is: "Notepad.exe - Application error - The application failed to initialize properly (0x000012d) Click OK to terminate the application" (my quotes). I am forced to restart the computer.
I was sent to this forum from the anti malware forum who (I think) originally did find some instances of malware, however since the varmint has been removed the symtom has returned and they sent me here. {Marti} They suggested I do a reinstall- it dosen't appear to be too difficult with the Dell reinstall disc.

Windows XP sp3 Home
1 Gb ram
250Gb external hard drive
111 Gb internal hard drive

Answer:Error: Application failed to initialize properly

Hi .

Well...have you read the Dell documentation for your system...which indicates how to install, the effects, etc.?

System model?

I don't believe that you will be able to do a repair install with a CD reflecting SP1...since your system reflects SP3. But Dell systems don't necessarily play by the rules of owners with MS Genuine XP CDs...which is why you need to consult your system documentation to see what your options are.

If you tell us the model, I will review the system documentation and state what I see as your options.

Hello,

I'm having trouble with my new Dell desktop PC running Vista Premium (all latest updates installed). When trying to launch certain programs (like ACDSee, for example) I get this 0xc0150004 error.

I have tried everything possible including the Dell factory recovery reinstallation, nothing helps.

After having searched latest posts in different forums I conclude that the problem is common to new Dell desktops and laptops running Vista. The system reinstallation doesn't help.

One detail though, I found on one of the forums that deleting this registry key would resolve the problem 'x86_microsoft.vc80.mfc_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727 .762_none_0c178a139ee2a7ed'

It did resolve the problem for some of the programs which get this error but not for all. For example, starting ACDSee still result in this error.

So my guess is that I should delete something else from the registry But what exactly? Do you have an idea? Thanks in advance.

I had installed TopLinkBuilder on my XP (SP2) machine, the installation was successful; But when I run the program, I ecountered the following problem

"Application failded to initialize properly (0xc0000005)"

Actions Tried

1. Try to change the compatibility mode to Windows 2000 and all the other options. I didn't work.
2. Uninstall and reinstall the program. It didn't work.
3. Installed the program on an NT machine, it worked well; then I copied the whole directory back to my XP machine. still encountered the same problem
4. Ran sfc /scannow, still got the same problem

1) What application is causing this error?

2) What OS are you using?

3) Did you recently install this application or some other application?

4) When is the error occuring? When logging into Windows? When you open a specific application?

so everytime to try to use media player classic i get this error

'application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022). click ok to terminate the application'

i am fairly certain it is a permission issue, and i believe i know what caused it. while following the smitfraud fix i did step 3 (when i probably shouldn't have) which Restores Trusted and Restricted Zones.

i have tried to look up how to fix this myself, but they seem to pertain to vista and/or talk about things i don't know how to do, or i can't find. My account is also the admin account. could anyone help me solve this issue?

Answer:application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022) Error

I would uninstall MPC and reinstall the latest version.
I usually download a copy of what I'm going to install before I uninstall the buggy program.

My 77 year old mother in law dropped off her old Compaq desk top computer and asked for help with a failure to boot up problem so I am trying to help with my limited knowledge.

Computer is an older Compaq Deskpro EN, Pent III 863 MHz, 384 mb RAM, with Win XP Pro version 2002 SP 2. She said the grandkids got on the computer during Christmas Holidays, surfed the net, and suddenly computer would not work or boot up. At start up the computer goes to the desk top screen but with no icons, then this application error code message pops up:

"userinit.exe application error, the application failed to initialize properly (0xc000012d). Click OK to terminate".

I can boot it up in safe mode as administrator or user but don't know where to go from there to determine the problem or fix. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

My Windows XP SP2 based machine has been encountering a problem for the past two weeks and I cant seem to pinpoint what the cause is. I have carried out some diagnostic tests but seem to have hit a dead end, so I would appreciate any suggestions any of you folk can come up with.

The Problem:
-Issues emerge after leaving PC running over night.
-When i come back to the PC in the morning, several applications fail to open giving the error: 'rundll32.exe application failed to initialize properly'.
-Always affects utorrent.exe, which I leave running.
-Mostly affects other applications too.
-Sometimes even task manager refuses to open.
-Normal shut down procedure doesnt operate and I am left with no option but to force shut down using the power button.

System Specs:
-Windows XP Pro SP2
-Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz
-2GB RAM
-All latest updates installed
-Zonealarm, AVG anti virus, Windows Defender and Peerguardian2 always run in background with latest definitions.

Diagnostics Carried Out:
-I ran full system checks using AVG anti virus, Windows Defender, AVG anti spyware, spybot search&destroy, super anti-spyware, ad-aware 2007 and mcAffes stinger using the latest versions and definitions. These were carried out both in normal and safe mode. No viruses were detected. Only a couple of tracking cookies were found which the software labelled as mild-medium threat. Naturally, I removed these. I left the PC running overnight and the problem was still there.
-I read ... Read more

Answer:'rundll32 application failed to initialize' error, possible malware?

When Ive done some systematic overnight runs: that error didnt come up with windows defender and no zone alarm running, but with zone alarm, i came back in the morning to find the true vector error and disconnected from the internet....no 'failed to initialize' error, though.

Yesterday evening, however, AVG anti-spyware detected two trojans in safe mode which for some reason none of the other anti-spyware detected...nor were they found when i ran AVG antiS the last time. There were two Trojan.Agent.abd files, one in the alcohol 120% software folder, other in system volume information folder.

I googled this up, and it seems several others who posted anti-malware logs found the same trojan in the same alcohol softwares folder.....conspiracy there?

Should it be of concern that AVG anti virus scanner finds 'reading error' for 'boot sector of C' and the following files changed: kernel32.dll, wsock32.dll, user32.dll, shell32.dll and ntoskrnl.dll?

Perhaps I should run a command prompt virus scanner? Ive already run everything in safe mode several times.

I have workstations with the oracle client installed (some 9i, some 10g) accessing oracle 9i databases.

When starting a program to use them via sqlplus the following error pops up:

Code:
SQLLDE.EXE - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click ok to terminate the application.
I don't quite understand, what could cause the application to crash in this way sometimes and other times it works fine. Is there a good way of debugging this? Perhaps using some sysinternals tools or something?

Has anybody seen this kind of behaviour in applications before? What did you do to solve it?

HELLO AND PLEASE HELP!

MY COMPUTER IS A DELL WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL.
1. After I have signed on, the only image that appears is the desktop background (Hedge stone) and NOT the Desktop Icons or Taskbar.
2. SECONDLY, AN ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS THE READS: Userinit.exe - Application Error. "The application failed to initialize properly 0xc000005. Click on OK to terminate the application."
3. I have attempted to fix it by: Selecting "Ctrl, Alt and then Delete." The Task Manager appears, and then I select "New Task" and then type in "Explorer" and press "OK."
4. I've even tried restarting in "Safe Mode" and even in "Safe Mode" that Error message pops up no matter what mode I select.
Is there anyway to fix this problem? If not, what are the procedures in resetting or restoring the computer to the manufacture's settings? I'm aware that if I select this option to reset/restore to the manufacture’s default settings I will lose all of my files. Please Help!

Thank you,

Answer:Is This Malware? Startup Error 0xc0000022 "application Failed To Initialize"

Hello DRS524 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean, but there are a couple of things that do show that should be dealt with.It appears that there are multiple anti-virus applications running on this computer. Running more than 1 anti-virus application at the same time can cause file access issues and if there is an infection the multiple programs can block each other from dealing with the infected file. I highly recommend that you choose which application you want to keep and uninstall the other one(s) to prevent these problems.Your Java is out of date. Hi there, I am new to the forum and really need help for my parents.

Their computer is playing up at the moment. First of all it has been crashing, by this i mean freezing completely.

I have came to look at their computer to see if i could help. However I can't, this is way beyond me.

The above error message is happening when trying to load Windows Defender. The main message in blue says "MSASCui.exe - Application Error" and below it says "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000009c). Click on OK to terminate the application."

Obviously this is not allowing Windows Defender to load, however the computer itself is now playing up by crashing now and then. I am thinking registry possibly however after scanning and repairing what errors were there this still did not fix the problem. Please can anyone help?

Can anyone help me resolve a small setup problem, with my Pavilion dv6152eu notebook which is nearly 3 yrs old. My OS is Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition 2005. Have just completed an F11 recovery and am going through setup of user accounts. Have setup 2 Administrator accounts and one guest. Have set Windows to configure my home internet connections and Installed my 02 USB modem and drivers. All seemed well with my router internet connection and the 02 connection, both working independently and switching without even a hint of naughtyness or mayhem. But...as Jim Carey would say in his film...LIAR LIAR, "HERE SHE COMES TO WRECK THE DAY!!!" In the other Administrator user account, my router internet connection is working great...BUT a click on the 02 connection icon and...this message changes everything...DOESN't IT! Application failed to initialize, please contact customer care. I must point out here that 02 has not been a problem before...and i'm slowly but surely, losing the will to live, trying to sort this one...Anyone???

Kind Regards

Not that it will solve your problem, but you should probably update to SP3.

Visual C++ is a software programming language.

Hi everyone,

My laptop was recently infected with a virus that hijacked my browser and started this wau.exe file that displays this fake Windows Defender scan that keeps popping up when I access the internet. I was able to remove the infection using Malwarebytes but afterwards, every time I start up the computer, I get this message:

Windows Defender
Application failed to initialize: 0x80070006. The handle is invalid.

I can't start it manually and I don't know if this is because the virus turned it off or removed something from defender.

I use Windows Vista Home Edition

Please advise me on how I might be able to correct this problem.

Thank you so much for your help. It is greatly appreciated!!!

Starting about an hour after I started my desktop on the 17th I started getting the following error when ever I tried to open an app that wasn't already running.

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application."

I have been all over the web trying different fixes and nothing has worked so far.

First thing I did was restore a Macrium backup that was before the last Windows update, 5/09. Windows is activated and legal. After a few minutes the errors start again. Have done this 4 times with different drives.

Ran memtest for 10 hours with O errors.

Ran 2 antivirus scans that found squat.

Re seated memory and unplugged and replugged all motherboard connections.

Last thing I did was go in to msconfig and start with all startups but antivirus loading and I can do some things like Outlook and Chrome but most applications will not load.

Last night I was able to get Steam to load and play DOOM for an hour with no problem.

Os used winload not xOsload.

Anybody have any ideas?

I have a C++ program which compiles, links and executes fine in the Windows environment. However, if I modify the properties of the exe file; specifically the compatabilty tab and have the program disable visual themes or have the program run in compatabilty mode, the program fails to load and I get this fatal error.

I run the dependency tool and I can see the program access violate at load time. I am currently running Windows XP professional with sevice pack 2...

I would be thankful for any help or advice.

Answer:Application Failed to Initialize

Hi carlmcool,

Welcome to TSG!

Your program was compiled and ran in the WinXP environment without compatibility mode assistance because no compatibility mode assistance was necessary.

Windows compatibility mode as I understand it is for earlier generation Windows programs to be run in a WinXP environment in compatibility mode, and not for programs compiled in a WinXP environment to be run in compatibility mode.
