Preferred Solution: SSD slow read rate 264mb/sec

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: SSD slow read rate 264mb/sec

There's a known issue with SSD storage:

SSDs degrade in performance overtime - -
DON'T run benchmarks and you don't need defrag either.

I think this is the place to put it in so sorry if it's not.

I've been monitoring my computer for about two months now and I've noticed that out of all my attributes the only one that fluctuates is my Raw Read Error Rate.

It will go from 60 to 62 then straight to 59 or 58 then back up to 60. None of my other attributes even go up or down (only the temperature)

I've also noticed it only start moving around when I'm playing a game or installing something on my computer

I have Windows XP Pro
From what my HD monitoring software tells me my HD is a Seagate.

Is this normal for a Seagate HD to fluctuate in Raw Read Error Rate like this?

Answer:A question about Raw Read Error Rate

Raw Read Error Rate represents physical disk read errors. It is going to get differing error info depending on the sectors of the disk it is reading from. While I have never actually paid much attention to it unless I saw a problem, my opinion is that it's normal.

Ok one of my computers keeps randomly restarting, sometimes it does it under stress sometimes when its idle, it doesn't happen very often but often enough and last time it happened system files became corrupted. I did a fresh format with the disc supplied from HP and it did it again I'm not 100% sure on the problem but I though it might be the harddrive so I downloaded Westerndigitals diagnostic tool and got an SMART status error in " Raw Read Error Rate " / Threshold 51 / Value 200 / Worst 48 / But when I used Everest and received the same values it says the values are normal...

I believe there's a bug in Western Digital's Dataguard Diagnostics.

Raw Read Error Rate
Threshold: 51
Value: 200
Worst: 1
Data: 0

Those values are shown in Western Digital's Dataguard Diagnostics and Everest. However, the Raw Read Error Rate fails Western Digital's SMART test but is OK: normal according to Everest. The Value 200 is well above the Threshold 51, my hard drive passed Western Digital's Quick and Extended Test, and there's no sign of hard drive failure: warnings or errors. All this has me believe it's a Western Digital Dataguard Diagnostics bug. I don't put much in to SMART's below-70 accuracy rate, but the fail worries me. If you know anything about SMART, what do you think?

Hi All,

I had recently bought an WD Elements 1.5TB External Hard Drive. In the last few weeks it has started to slow right down. Where now it takes about 30 minutes for my PC to recognise it and it is super slow to do anything. I did a scan with HDTune Pro and it showed it had a read rate average of 2.7MB/s. And another scan using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics showed it had a Raw Read Error Rate (Fail). It still shows up and lets me access file but its not worth it as how slow it is. I wanted to know if this is fixable and what you out there would recommend I do.

Cheers
CC (Mup)

Answer:WD External HDD Raw Read Error Rate Fail

Welcome to TSG
Looking into large backup drives (I also bought recently one) I found that many of them don't work too well. Smaller are better and last longer.
If you still have warranty on it, exchange it, try to put everything back first onto your hard drive as not to loose your files.
Sorry I can't help you, I wonder if it has to do with the USB ports, because depending which one it is plugged in, it works (maybe) or it doesn't even show up or it is very slow.
If you Google, you'll see, it does not matter what brand it is.

Hi there,
We have a WD NAS set up at work and has been working great until recently when I tried upgrading the Firmware. Access rate used to be over 30MB/s on a Gigabit network and has now dropped down to 5MB/s. Support with WD has been great up to this point, but now we're at the point where neither of us can figure out what happened. Over a remote connection, WD has rolled back the driver as far back as their database allows (this has been done in stages with a few versions in between to help root out a problem). Nothing has helped. Would anyone be familiar with this situation to tell what has caused this to happen? All workstations which is a mix of XP up to Windows 7 pro have the same result.

Answer:Slow access rate on NAS

get a screenshot on a Win/7 which shows the devices and the router.
Post that as an image you upload to the gallery or some other service

Hello everyone, I'm a newly registered member here and first of all I'd like to apologise if I am doing something wrong with posting this here; I would like to get some feedback as soon as possible because it's something kind of urgent, thanks

Ok, so I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my Computer(...) and I have recently found a problem that's pretty annoying: The file copying is really-really slower than on Windows XP and I mean that if I want to copy a folder which is about 650MBs over to a USB Flash Drive it takes about 1 day(what??) and the transfer rate is like 300KB/s. I have tried to look for solutions on the Internet but they haven't turned out handy. Could someone please help me asap as I need to give the USB to someone in a couple of hours?

Thanks in advance.

I have a HP-Compaq V3000. AMD 64x2, 1GB RAM, Windows Vista 32 Bit, also Nvidia Ge Force Card.

Now my problem is that whenever I play games like EA sports FIFA 08 or Cricket 07, the frame rate is very slow. Game does not run smoothly.
Is there any solution to this? Do I need to increase my RAM ?

My lappie has USB3 ports. Or course I know the clock down to whatever device you attach. I have a 500G Seagate External rated at USB2. Meaning my transfers should be 480 megabits per second (mbps), or 60 megabytes per second (MBps), correct? So why am I getting half that speed if I am lucky. Not plugged into a USB hub or anything, straight into the port. IS there some setting I am missing? TIA guys

Answer:Slow USB Transfer rate

No. The device must be USB3 too. You are getting proper speeds.

Question: slow frame rate

I'm playing "Marine Sharpshooter" and towards the end of each level the frame rate starts to slow down. I'm running Pent. 3 550MGz with a GeForce 2 m/x 400 on a gateway pc with 128 mb ram and I have 2.5 gb of free space. Do I need to upgrade?? and if so what are the newest or best video cards? Also I'm running Windows ME.

Answer:slow frame rate

gates,

You can perhaps do some basic 'housekeeping' to your pc before rushing out to upgrade.

Make sure you hard disk is defragged and then do a scandisk.

Ensure that all apps running in the background have been closed down.

Regards upgrading - you could perhaps double your Ram to 256mb that would boost performance in other tasks as well.

With respect to getting a new graphics card - what is your realistic budget ? If you can state that then you can perhaps get some recommendations from others based on what has worked for them.

Just for reference - both my systems are Athlon 2600 based. One has 256 mb Ram and a cheap GeForce 440 card which allows me to run games .... only at lower settings. The other has 512 mb Ram and has a Radeon 9500 card thats been overclocked to allow much better gameplay.

In the meantime you might care to browse here :

http://www.tomshardware.com

And click 'Graphics Cards' in the left column as there are reviews and benchmark tests on cards across the board from budget to high end.

RDP connects fine from home XP to office XP but screen refresh rate draws from left to right and down very slow especially when viewing PDF docs with pictures. Connection at home is DSL and connection on office is T1.

Answer:RDP slow refresh rate

Problems with viewing PDFs and graphics is a very common issue when using RDP. I recommend you look at Ericom Blaze, a software product that accelerates AND compresses standard Microsoft RDP, so it speeds RDP while conserving bandwidth. Blaze accelerates RDP performance by as much as 10-25 times, and helps deliver higher frame rates and reduce screen freezes and choppiness.

You can read more about Blaze and download a free evaluation at:
http://www.ericom.com/ericom_blaze.asp

Or view a video demo at:
http://www.ericom.com/blaze_youtube.asp

Hope this helps.

Hi, I recently spent £600 on a new computer (specs below) and I ran 3DMark05 and then compared the results. It seems that my score 2012 is terrible compared with another machine with roughly the same spec as mine. I can run HL2 on high settings with no AA or AF at 1280x1024 and get about 35fps, which is better than my old machine but I thought I should be getting more.
My machine specs are as follows -
Intel Pentium 4 Prescott @ 3.2ghz, 800mhz FSB/HTT/1MB Cache

ASUS Dual DDR, S-ATA, 8x AGP, 5 PCI, 800mhz

Question: Slow Frame Rate

Frame Rate issues can be caused by the following issues.
1. Check the temperature of your graphics card. If it is overheating it will shut down slowly ( self preservation )and you may have to grind out your quests at 5 - 7 FPS. Go here and download this free heat monitor.www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php -> A good card temp is well below 100C
2. If you have a new grasphics card and it is rated for SAY 350 watts. Check your system, if your power supply is only 300, then you will have slow framerates. Also you could risk damaging your card.
In world of warcraft a good Frame Rate should be between 55 - 60 FPS if you have the appropriate Graphics Card.

Ubuntu atleast gives me 7-10Mbps. Recently I transfered 400 MB folder and it took 30 - 40 min at the rate of 250kbps. The 400MB folder was my XAMPP folder which contains multiple files.
I got pretty frustrated at this. Please help me find a solution to this . The other day i was late to office bcoz of this , it took 40 min as described above.
please provide some insight to this. I'm expecting at least 15-20 Mbps

Hello,

I'm using a Asus P6T SE mainboard. I have connected an eSata (onboard jmicron controller) harddisk (Akasa enclosure with an Seagate 7200.11 750 Gb HD). Sometimes when I copy files to or from the local harddisk the transfer rate is slow. About 13 mb/s but sometimes it is also fast 90 mb/s. I'm using the latest drivers from jmicron. What could be the problem of the speed differences ?

John

Answer:Slow eSata transfer rate

I try to transfer files and it slows to 13 meg a sec and then just stops and goes idle until I reboot. I think this issue is widespread but I don't believe anyone has yet found a relation as to why for some and not others. I have 6 WD 500gb external so that = 6 usless external drives..

So I decided try and reinstall XP I thought that i was installin a fresh copy of XP, I Have my hard with other partions it install a new copy of XP on one of them. MY direct x worked then, but now in game I am getting low frame rate went from 100+ down to 19 with all the details all low and the settings tweak for faster fps and set the card to run for proformance. I have tried every thing that i know of.

One last thing I booted up in dos from a boot disk it would not let me see or format the drives that have xp on them, From what have seen is i have to fdisk those drives. IF there is another way let me know please.

Answer:Slow transfer rate in Messemger

Its not a problem its how its supposed to be. Theres upload and download rates, when you send a file you are using your upload bandwidth, usually 256k or so. Which is very slow, anywhere from 16KBps to 32 KBps. Compared to download speeds of 768k to 3mb (bits not bytes)

Theres not much you can do. Companies don't give much upload bandwidth to the residential customers. Id love more upload to host some servers.

HI, i just notice that my usb transfer is really slow around 11mb/sec for my usb stick and around 20mb/sec for my external hard drive.

I noticed this change right after installing SP1. (I'm on windows 7 ultimate 64bit.)

The thing is that it happenned in a particular moment, i was transfering files to my external hard drive the same day i installed Sp1 and in the beginning of the transfer the transfer speed was normal, around 60mb/sec.

Then my Internet security software (Eset Smart Security) tells me that a process has changed in i think it was taskhost.exe (i am not 100% sure but i know it was a windows process), it ask me do i accept it, i press ok accept the change and then i saw my transfer speed slowed down right away to something like 20mb/sec.

Does anyone knows the problem with that?

What should i do?

Thanks in advance

Answer:slow download transfer rate

Dial up does now have a fast download speed first off, you will be very lucky to get 15 - 20/kb sec.

Secondly, it depends on how busy the server that is sending you the file is.

And finally have you checked all firewalls have been properly configured.

also try to disable your firewall if you have one to actually see if it makes a difference.

The firefox build I got is still pre 17 and does not contain any of the issues you see on 17 onwards. Since I do not use any extensions there and I actually hardly use the browser, I do not see the need to upgrade anytime soon.

Have your slow response rates only started with latest few builds?

First eject your SD Card from your phone in Settings > Storage Sense > SD Card > Remove SD Card*. Then remove your SD Card and connect it to your PC. Copy the files you want onto it. Then return it to your phone. This should be faster than if you transfer through your phone cable through your phone.
I also tried copying files to my SD Card in my phone by connecting my phone to my PC, around 2.4GB of photos, and it took more than an hour to finish. This is slower compared to copying the files directly to the SD Card, which lasted only less than 20 minutes.
*- Optionally, you could just turn your phone off.

hello,
i recently bought a new laptop and have begun transferring data between it and my old laptop with a crossover ethernet cable. however the transfer rate is extremely slow, at 1.2 MB/s when i have a 1 Gb/s ethernet port on each laptop, so it should be about 125MB/s. right?

the new laptop is running windows 7 64 bit.

any ideas on how to increase the transfer rate if possible.

Answer:slow transfer rate over ethernet

Well dont know why nobody replied, but the speed did increase a bit, i change the settings in 'local area connection' and it has increased to about 12 MB/s,
thanks for viewing.

I saw this post and seem to have the exact same problem:http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...I was wondering if anyone had come up with a solution or reason. I was actually transferring files just fine from my usb port to my portable hard drive, getting speeds of about 18-22 mbps, up until a few days ago. I was transferring 2 gb files in 4-5 minutes--then, as of a few days ago, whenever I try to transfer anything speeds start at 28, drop to 16, drop to 8, then drop a half mb every few seconds until it shows it will take 50 mins to transfer a 2 gb file. this is maddening! can it be a virus? I do use an antivirus program, but I am an active downloader, and I know there are "invisible" viruses that can't be seen with task manager. I have also tried to change the properties of the portable HD to optimal transfer, or whatever it's called, to make it faster, but that didn't help at all. please help!thank you!

Hello, whilst updating a trojan software program, I noticed the transfer rate was 53 k/per sec. I have DSL and my normal transfer rate (on the same program update) has been in the 130-145 k/ per sec.

I contacted my ISP and was told there is nothing wrong at their end. Is there anything else I can check on the comp?

Thanks for the help

Answer:Download transfer rate very slow - need help

What is your DSL provider?

What is the normal speed of the DSL? Mine is 3 Mb.

WHat where you using to download the Trojan? Why were you downloading a Trojan?

Download speeds vary at time because of the amount of people using the DSL or web, A lot of times it is where you are downloading the file from were you using something like Limewire? Those networks wet the bed they are full of nasties.

I am planning on re-installing Windows 7 onto my computer to clean it up a bit. I have a 1.5tb external hard drive plugged into a usb hub, which is plugged into my computer. Whenever I try to copy files to my external hard drive, the transfer rate is extremely slow. When I start, it is about 10mb per second, then over time, it slows down more and more until finally it sits at about 40kb a second, which is extremely slow when copying gbs of data. USB 2.0 is supposed to transfer up to 600mb a second. I know it probably wouldn't be that fast but, I don't expect it to be in the kb range either. Any ideas about why this happens and what I could do to fix it?

Answer:Slow Data Transfer Rate

USB is a shared BUS and shared CPU system. That means it will never reach its maximum speed more so if the CPU is under heavy usage. Also depends on how fast the External HDD can preform.

Hi I have a USB 2.0 Jukebox Zen. When trying to copy my music collection over to it using windows media player it is extremely slow transferring each track. However, if I only transfer one track the transfer rate is much higher.I can't understand this as when I transfer using the supplied software it works extremely quickly.Unfortunately however, I have spent so long building up track info such as artist, track title, genre etc using Windows Media player, and unfortunately this menas it is not part of the ID3 tag. Therefore the only way to preserve this info is by transferring using media player. Does anyone know how I can increase the transfer speed to its maximm, which i know it is capable of?thanksstephen

I have a Vantec NexStar TX NST-210S2-BK Hard Drive Enclosure - 2.5" SATA to USB 2.0 wit a 120 GB Segate Harddrive in it connected to an Asus K61-IC laptop and my transfer speeds on all my USB Ports are acting super slow.

My laptops specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (2.20 GHz)
4 GB Ram
750 GB Western Digital Blue Hard Drive 5400 RPM
NVidia GeForce GT 220 Video Card
16" HD Display
4 2.0 USB Ports

The hard drive enclosure requires two USB Ports which I have both plugged in.

I'm trying to transfer some folders I don't use much to the external and its taking forever. I have never had this problem before.

Currently I'm transferring at 992 KB/Second according to Windows.

Also I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1.

Any help with this is appreciated.

Thank You.

Edit: Also, Just recently I've had a balloon tip start popping up in the taskbar telling me that if I hook my USB Devices up to a USB 2.0 Port it will run faster. I'm pretty sure that all my USB Port's are 2.0. Not for sure on this but if someone will explain how, I'll check and post results.

Answer:USB transfer rate going super slow

The 2 USB cables are required for this model because one is the power cable. I would say the controller in your enclosure is at fault.

You can always look in Event Viewer whether there is a specific problem reported. But best is probably if you try another enclosure.

I ve been reading alot of different opinions I disabled auto tuning already Someone also said to download this file but i dont know if its good or not WinVista_6104_NIC_8139-20070620.zip The network adapter is Realtek RTL 81680/8111d family pci gigabyte ethernet nic
any help???

Answer:vista slow download rate Why???Help

WoW patches are notoriously slow.

try something like itunes from apple. or a common speed test. please note that even if you can download 800kb/s. not everyone can upload 800kb/s. 2 way street I suppose.

There are links to direct download patches. I forget where. there is also a tool which converts blizzards auto downloaders into a .torrent file which in a real torrent program yields much better results..

also. there's a way to increase your internet speeds. microsoft "reserves" 20% of your bandwidth in default domain settings. it's a bug. but you need to set it to 0. can sometimes increase your speeds.

hi,

I have a desktop and a laptop computer. my desktop had win7 64x for a while and today i installed win7 64x on my laptop. so my desktop is connected via Ethernet to the router while my laptop is connected wireless. so i began transferring big files from the desktop to the laptop and that went at the rate of 1.5mb/s which makes transfers not feasible. so i thought that this was due to wireless and so since my desktop is connected the router via Ethernet cable, i unplugged it from the router and inserted it into the laptop thus creating a direct connection between the 2 computers. well, the first problem that popped up was the unidentified network problem. I spent about 6 hours trying to fix that, reading forums and everything but no fix, but at least i managed to make the 2 computers see and access each others drives. so i began the transfer again and it went at 1.5mb/s again... what to do?

Thank you

Connect both machines to your router and don't use the wireless to transfer as it will be slower. You might want to consider a faster wireless card if you don't have an wireless N card and router.

Hey guys,

Maybe someone got this issue as well; I was transfering data between my old (vista 32) and my new computer (win 7 64 7100) and I got a transfer rate of 1mb/sec.

All my house is wireless and I'm used to do 5-6mb/sec between my old PC and my laptop (win XP Media Center).

I got WMP54G on the new PC and WMP54GS (S for speedbooster) on my old PC. WRT54GS for the router.

If you have any ideas / tips

Thanks!

I am having problems with web pages (on both IE and Firefox web browsers), the refresh rate is really low and it kind of takes a while to scroll down as a result. I dont know how else to explain it. It slowly refreshes from top to bottom every time the page is scrolled down. On my much slower computer, when I scroll down, it is smooth with no slow refresh. Why is it doing that?

Hello. Every time I download a file, can it be direct from a site, or from torrent, when I copy or movie to another place ( another HD, same HD, External USB 3.0 drive etc ... ) , the transfer velocity is very low (10-15 MB/S ). Making some tests, I discovered that after the first time I copied the file, if I copy it back to the same location or another , the velocity comes back to normal ( 90 -130 MB/S ) most of the times. I am on Windows 7 SP1 , all drivers installed and Windows update up to date. My antivirus is MSE , but i tried with it disabled, no success. Sorry for the bad english and thank you for any help you can give me.

Let me explain my situation, as it's rather complicated.

PC A: My primary PC. It has 2x HDD (500 gb and 1 tb) and 1 120gb SSD. My OS is on the SSD. My data is on the 500 (including media), and my programs are on my 1 tb. Connected LAN to the router.

PC B: My wife's PC. Connected LAN to the router. Windows 7 Ultimate X64

PC C: Living room PC. Connected Wireless N 300 to the router. Windows 7 Ultimate X64

PC D: Laptop PC. Connected wireless G. Windows Vista Home Basic

The issue: I cannot play my videos stored on PC A on PC C. Nor can I play them on PC B. I can, however, play them fine on PC D. I can also play videos from PC B on PC A fine. In fact, the whole network access is slow when viewing PC A from B or C. When I click the video, it lags heavily, wont play the video, and locks up windows explorer.

Steps I have taken: Re-installed windows on PC A. Turned off Windows Firewall, disabled autotuning, removed RDC. Replaced modem (old: DGL-4300, new: ASUS RT-N66U).

None of these PCs have obsolete components, and it's strange that one configuration doesn't work properly but the other does. Please offer some suggestions?

Edit: PC C can access PC B just fine. So here's the break down:
PC A: Accesses all fine.
PC B: Accesses all but A fine
PC C: Accesses all but A Fine
PC D: Accesses all fine.

Edit: It also does this for audio and image files.

Answer:Tremendously slow transfer rate on one PC but not others.

Welcome to Seven Forums Battery55.
I'm not a network guru by any means. On the surface it look like perhaps you don't have the sharing options on PC A properly set to share with B and C.

GeForce4 Question

Hello,

I just bought a GeForce 4 ti 4400 and it seem that it is running alot slower than it is suppose to. For example, in the game Unreal Tournament I get around 75fps and it doesnt seem to go up much more than that. Now My question is, did I had to do something in the BIOS or change any settings so that it runs as it is suppose to or did I just pay $300 for nothing?

Thanks,

Answer:Slow frame rate playing games

Do you have the latest drivers for your video card?

You should also be somewhat careful playing games, since laptops (I assume you have a laptop since it's running a Radeon Express card) were not really designed for gaming. WHen you play, make sure there's enough space under and around the laptop for the cooling fans and vents to get access to cool air, otherwise it will heat up very quickly.

Hello everyone, I have bought a good 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive with "up to 150MB/s read, 60MB/s write". Have tested the USB flash on a different Laptop to be sure and there is working fine. However it does make the mentioned speeds only for a few seconds and the average speed is +/-55MB/sec transfer rate when commonly used which is perfectly fine. So my question is why on my acer it does tops 35MB/sec on any of my 2xUSB 3.0 ports? It does the same speed in the 2xUSB 2.0. (which for USB 2.0 is perfect) I have tried with driver updates and so on, but everything is up to date and seems okay. Have someone have a similar problem? I am using Windows 10 Pro x64. Have done a USB benchmark test on all the USBs and the speeds are max 37MB/sec that I have achieved. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

Hello there!

I've looked about everywhere I could to solve this issue, to no avail up to now, so I really hope someone here might have some answer...

Here's the pitch:

I'm under Vista Home Premium (not by choice though, believe me). ALL of my USB plugs are 2.0, yet for some reason, one of my 3 external HDDs, or its USB enclosure to be more specific (as it is the faulty part -- my other 2 work fine) will always connect in USB1.1 (transfer rate toping at an average of a pathetic 800-900 Kib/s, and dumb warning from Vista that using another USB plug would increase performances).
The interesting part is that, in some particular situations (yet very hard for me to replicate since it will only work one time out of a random number of tries), like for instance unplugging the drive while it's working (and that's not something I like to do), switching it off and on again and then plugging it back (all this in a couple of seconds), the drive would then connect in USB2.0 and I'd have the correct transfer rate (around 20 Mib/s or so I guess).
Which means it is not a configuration problem (with IRQs or with the way my preferences are set in Vista) I suppose : it proves the HDD CAN actually transfer with acceptable USB2.0 rate, and Vista can also make it happen and support it with this particular HDD! The problem obviously lies with the connection process which is flawed at first, and I can't figure out why for the life of me.

Hi All,

I got this problem, my cmd prompt typing rate is very slow.
1. This happened after i have enabled my HyperThreading in my system through some hacking of boot.ini and bios setup,

2. Installed some patches with MS automatic update.

3. And turned off some services in my system.

Now it's like about only 20% of the speed of the previous cmd prompt.

What gives

Answer:cmd prompt typing repeat rate slow

It has been confirmed that it is due to the hyperthreading, once i have turned it off in the bios, it is back to speed.

Anybody got any idea what is wrong?

Hello everyone,

While transferring files from one computer to another in a wired connection, I've noticed that the transfer rate is incredibly low, around 10 Mb a sec. Here's my set up.

Internet -> Motorola SB6120 Cable modem -> Apple Airport Extreme -> wired computers

I appreciate any help. Thanks!

Answer:Need help with slow transfer rate in home network.

Does the Apple Airport Extreme or any of the computers have an old 10 Mbps (not 10/100) ethernet adapter?

My brand new WD SATA HDD which showed 188 for the RRER (checked with BIOS and WD tool both) and failed the SMART test--and also made those terrible scraping noises a few times--is definitely going back, but it will be a couple days until the delivery guy comes to pick it up, and yet a few more until I get my replacement.

My machine (all the parts and software are new too) is also rebooting randomly (once every one or two hours). I want to assume that the dying HDD is behind this, but I can't find much info online to corroborate this theory.

Can such a HDD (lone HDD with OS, of course) cause the system to randomly reboot? If so I can rest easy, but if not I have to figure this out before I go on a business trip (because when I get back from said trip some of the warranties will have expired!)

Btw I checked all the common causes of reboots with various diagnostic tools, and it's definitely not a temperature thing.

Answer:Can a bad SMART "raw read error rate" ever cause reboots?

Yes, a bad hard drive can indeed cause reboots, lockups, and errors. But that doesn't necessarily mean that there's not another problem as well. You'll have to replace the drive and see what happens or start testing other components like RAM and power supply.

Hey there,

Been having this problem for a while and I have been searching and searching and cannot find a solution. I know there are very simliar threads but like I said I cannot find a solution.

I own a custom built desktop with the following :

i7-940 cpu
intel dx58so motherboard
8gb of ram
nvidia gts250
Thermaltake TRX-750M Power supply 750W

if any more information is needed on the build let me know.

I recently noticed the transfer rate really slow, at an average about 1.5MB/s.

I have tried enabling Better Performance option but what happens is that it starts really fast and then goes down to about 1.5MB/s anyways and usually just freezes or stops.

I also have a laptop, its an Acer Aspire AS5745DG-6681. Specifications are:

Intel Core i5-480M, 15.6" HD (1366x768) LED-backlit, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Blu-ray Combo Drive, NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M 1GB, Wireless N, HDMI, Webcam, 9-cell, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I updated the RAM to 8GB on the laptop.

Using the same external hard drive, I can get rates at an average of 30MB/s and better performance is also disabled on the laptop.

I Don't know what the difference is they both have Windows 7 64 bit, just the laptop is Home Premium and my desktop is Windows 7 Enterprise.

Anyone have any ideas that can shoot me in the right direction?

Thank you

PS. Forgot to mention I recently reformated and did a fresh install of windows 7 and see if it would solve the problem but it didnt.

And also tried booting in... Read more

hi
i have a query.isnt the transfer rate between partitions within a hard drive supposed to be faster than its external transfer rate via the interface?
i have a seagate st3160215as with 2mb cache.it says on the website that it has a maximum sustainable transfer rate of 78MB/sec,whereas when i moved media files from my drive d: to drive c: the avg came out to be about 10MB/sec (i divided the file size with the time in secs to calculate that).
is this normal?
also what is the usual tranfer rate when coying off a dvd to hard disk?

thanks

Answer:Slow hard disk transfer rate between partitions

There are several things that can affect transfer rates... things like system CPU, memory and motherboard, and running programs

A few days ago I purchased a new battery (10.8V, 4400mAh) on Amazon (from Batterytec) for my Toshiba Satellite C660-13Q PA3817U-1BRS , 10.8V, 4200mAh .

The Problem is that this battery takes about 12 hours to charge: it's very very slow!!!

I've already done a complete charging cycle to calibrate it and the battery life is of 2 hours and 25 minutes, after calibration. With the original toshiba battery (fault) I never had this problem.

What can I do to solve the problem of "slow charge"?
Is it a defect in the battery?
such behavior is normal?

Thanks in advance
Imma

Answer:Re: Satellite C660 - new Battery with slow charging rate

Have you bought original Toshiba battery with Toshiba sticker or it is some other brand (universal battery)?

I have two computers networked at my house. Both run Windows XP and are connected with a crossover cable. My transfer rate averages about 250 to 400 kbps. A while ago it used to average 3 to 4 mbps.

Does anyone know how to improve the transfer rate over a network setup like this?

I'm curious if anyone knows why I might be experiencing insanely slow transfer rates from a particular 8GB Transcend SDHC 6 card?  If I click on details while it is reading from the card, it will say 'Calculating...' forever.  It will take like 5 minutes to transfer 3 - 1MB files.  There are less than 200 pictures/videos on the card.  The weird thing is that accessing the same card from my old laptop and my wife's laptop works perfectly fine.  And if I take my 16GB Micro SDHC card from my cell phone and put it into an SD card adapter and put that into the SD slot on my T530, no issues, it transfers files at normal speeds?!  So it doesn't seem like the reader is bad, it just doesn't like that one card.  Any ideas?

My PC has been playing up recently getting slower and slower and I've decided to format the HDD upgrade to windows 7 and start again. So I'm in the process of backing up my files to an external HDD but I'm getting the slowest transfer rate ever. It was never great (no more than 25MB/sec) but never as low as 4 or 5 MB/sec.
My PC HDD is a 7200rpm SATA. EXT HDD is connected direct to PC via USB 2 cable.
Any ideas on how to fix this so i can finish backing up this side of the next decade.
Also, I have just bought a 1TB NAS for streaming media to my PS3 and also for backup but the transfer rate to this is even worse (less than 1MB/sec). This is connected direct to my router via ethernet and the router is connected to my PC via ethernet as well.

Answer:super slow 4-5 MB/sec transfer rate between hard drives

Is the external drive getting full? This will slow the transfer rate.
Are the USB sockets and plugs clean? Fluff and dust can cause problems.
Are any of the files being transferred corrupt?
Is your security scanning everything on transfer and causing a bottleneck?
You don't give your OS but this may help also link text

Hey, I'm suffering from a VERY slow transfer rate while I'm trying to transfer files from my USB flash drive to my desktop(about 200kbps).
The flash drive is sandisk cruzer 16GB and my computer is i5-750 @2.67GHz and 4GB of RAM.
It's not a problem with the flash drive because when I transfer files from it to my laptop the transfer rate is much better.
Is there any solution?

Hi All,

As of recently (for the last couple of weeks) I noticed that the transfer rate to my external WD Elements SE 1TB drive is very very slow (~2MB/sec). This wasn't always the case, and the drive was much more responsive than that.

I searched about this topic extensively and the only thing I found was an issue with installing Windows 7 SP1 that in some cases screwed up the USB2 drivers. This was supposedly addressed by KB2529073 which is installed on my system. However, I'm still experiencing this ulta slow transfer rate.

Any ideas how can I resolve this?

Thank you and happy holidays!

Some more information:
1. This behavior happens on all the USB ports of my computer
2. This behavior happens with other USB2 devices I tried such as 3 different Sandisk USB2 sticks
3. Sometimes copying large (~3GB) data to the drive eventually finishes up successfully and sometimes the file transfer just remains stuck. This may have to do with the usb port I used, but I'm not sure.
4. Looking at the event viewer, I found several events with Event ID 11 and the description: "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk3\DR9" and "Harddisk2\DR8.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I'm facing a very weird problem with Windows 10 on my new laptop. Every time I boot up or even wake from hibernate, my keyboard repeat rate gets reset to the slowest setting. I notice this only when I start using word or email.

The weirder thing is, in the keyboard settings window the setting would always be shown as "Fast", but actually it would be slow. To make it fast, I have to drag it to slow and then to fast again.

Hope I have made myself clear. Can you please help with this?

So I have a really neat computer sitting here,
2500K, P8z68-v, samsung 830 64gb ssd, corsair vengeance 16gb, deskstar hdd, firepro v5800

I have a non-descript trendnet 56K v.92 dial up modem installed to pci slot1 on my mobo
The phone company says they can't get a quicker connection than 31.2 Kbps established to dial up users in this area.
The real issue is the data transfer rate.
I have seen it reach as high as 6.xx Kbps but generally hovers around 2.5 Kbps.
Now it is down to 1.xx Kbps and I took the last 48 hours downloading all the updates for windows and several other updates for hardware etc.
Now I need the ATI firepro update and 114 Mb will take over 16 hours at my average speed, and some 32 hours at the new slower speed.
I'm wondering if you guys have any recollection of dial up and all the time it took to do simple tasks?
If anyone has any suggestions I'll try them out.
Thank you all again,

Answer:dial-up update loading too slow-data transfer rate?

Have you considered getting satellite or wireless internet (that is point-to-point microwave, not running off cell towers)? It would be considerably faster. There's not really a whole lot you can do about the speeds with dial up.

Hello,

I have a windows 2003 server enterprise edition, 12 gb ram, 6 hds all raid 5, another raid controller with a storage also raid 5, we have a 3rd party software on it, backup exec, this server is also one of our domain controllers, it is a poweredge dell server. The problem, Symantec Backup excec 11d was working fine, then one day around 11/30/07, or some where around there, the job rate was 1300mb for job rate, now we see it at 600-800mb for job rate. We talked with Symantec, did everything, Defrag, updates, set certain settings such as use backup exec file compression software instead of hardware, talked with dell, updated all firmware updates, we are backing up to a dell powervault 132t, with 2 tape drives, total slots 30 but only using 28 tapes in it, so slow, use to run perfect, we suspect now an update or something, BUT WHAT!!! please help, boss is not happy and I am all out of ideas, the boss says "BLOW IT OUT and START ALL OVER!" do i really have to do that just to fix this problem? any suggestions, fixes there has to be someone that ran into this same problem...

Hi

I have searched long and hard and need help please.

I have a P4 2.8 CPU with 512 DDR400 Ram and WinXP Pro installed. My hard drive is a Seagate Barracuda 120GB (Ultra) ATA. I have replaced cable to manufacturer's spec Ultra ATA cable, black interface used for master and jumper on Cable Select. I do not use the slave on this cable. I have checked BIOS and auto detected drive again. All seems fine here.

I have tested transfer rate on this drive with HD tach and HD Tune and get around 2.8 MB/sec. I experience very slow boot up and PC in general is very slow to start and execute programs.

I have removed all spyware and other threats with no effect.

Answer:Hard Drive transfer rate very slow (Seagate Barracuda 120GB)

Make sure you have hard disk DMA enabled in BIOS and see if Windows is using it.
