I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would like to find information about overclocking my XPS 8900 with i7-6700K Processor. In the BIOS options I found two options OC1 and OC2. I assume this is for overclocking and that OC2 would make the CPU faster than using OC1, but I have not found any documentation about this. Are there disadvantages for using OC2? Is there any information about CPU speed gains?

Answer:XPS 8900, Intel Core i7-6700K, Overclocking in Bios

If you download tools like Intel XTU and HWiNFO64 you may see what is different. You can also run some quick stress tests.   I would not expect much, but you might be surprised.
XTU: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24075/Intel-Extreme-Tuning-Utility-Intel-XTU-
HWiNFO64: http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php
I would watch temps very closely. CPU core temps in particular, but memory and CPU package also.
You can get the temps off of both XTU and HWiNFO64.
Caveat: I haven't touched a skylake system and don't own an 8900 but the principles are the same as other chips and chipsets.

I see that the new I7's are out and some information is being leaked on performance. I currently have a 3570K, with 16g ram and a GTX 970 video card. I was waffling on upgrading to an entirely new system next year (2016) but wanted to wait and see if the prices come down or if NEW chips were decidedly better.

Would anyone like to chime in if they have first hand experience on the 5930K vrs the newer 6700K?

Price and cost are not really a deciding factor in this issue. I was going to migrate from an I5 to an I7 an thought that the 5930K was a significant better chip and longer term investment (compared to my I5).

Hello,
I need help !

Trying to figure out whats wrong with my skylake build. First had an MSI M5 board in it but after a stream of BSODs
I replaced it with an Asus Pro Gaming board and made a clean install. Everything was fine again.

Now 2 weeks later (after being regulary used) it suddenly started BSOD again. Could barely get it running long enough to run the util to gather the information.

It's a clean install with just latest Win10 Pro, Latest chipset and drivers for network and graphics (not gforce experiance), Razer Synapse, Mumble and WoW, was playing in a raid yesterday and was fine. Thought it was worked out with the re-install. But no...

Previously ran memtest for a whole day with no errors but I will again, it was a on the MSI motherboard.

Intel 730 Series SSD 480GB
MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6GB
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
Seagate Barracuda 3TB

Attachment 46046

Logs contain 4 latest bsods of various messages but I think I've gotten them all by now. Most common are the
KMODE_EXCEPTIONs.

Just now writing this on other computer the skylake running just fine again...can't explain, guess it comes and goes.

Please help.

Thanks
Edit: Just passed thru a night of memtest86 using all cores on cpu. Does that mean the cpu and memory is fine ? What else, maybe swap out graphics card and test... Can a bad graphics card cause KMODE errors ?

Answer:Lots of BSODs after 2 weeks, same after clean install, Skylake 6700K

I have Intel Core i3 550 (3.2 GHz) on Intel DP55SB Extreme Edition mother board with 4GB RAM and NVidia GTS 450 graphic card for office work for about 2 years. The problem is that it performs not very good from day one and sometimes restarts by using heavy applications. Recently I happened to use another pc with similar specs and it was much faster. When I further looked into my pc, its CPU Windows 7 experience index is 3.9 where as other computers with same CPU show WEI of above 6. All drivers are up to date and there is no problem with Windows as well. I have dual monitor setup with 21" , 19" LCD's and no extra peripherals. There is no problem with room temperature as well.
What could be the possible problem, is there any setting in BIOS which is incorrect? I have restored BIOS to default settings as well but did not work....

I'm looking at upgrading my motherboard and CPU. I have a choice of two at the moment - both Intel Pentium D dual cores: 1 is 2.8Ghz x2 (5.6Ghz) and the other is 3.4Ghz x2 (6.8Ghz). This may sound like a stupid question but would there be a huge performance differnce between these two CPUs or would it be mainly dependant on the rest of the system? The system also consists of:2GB DDR PC2700 RAMRadeon X1650 Pro 512MB AGP 8x graphicsHDDs are currently IDEThe system is used a lot for audio, video and photo editing.Any help appreciated.

I dont think you would see a great difference but i would go for the 3.4 x 2.If your board can take the E6300 or even the E6600,i would most certainly go for that.

My friend posed a question to me, one which I really couldn't answer well because I never bought an AMD Windows 10 Based PC before. Is an AMD A10-9600P with an integrated R5 GPU a bit better and future proofed on a Windows 10 OS than an Intel Based 6th Gen i5 - 62000U with integrated HD 520 graphics? Both are low budget Laptops, Windows 10 Home editions PCs, both benchmark roughly the same, with the AMD a bit higher, even with just a R5 Integrated on board graphics. I never like buying these laptops because they bog down easily and don't last more than a year or 2, especially with just a 5400 rpm mechanical HDD. They only boost 720 P displays, so I am assuming they both aren't worth buying. Heck, if it is worth buying something 300 bucks more, I'd say to him, buy a Lenovo with a 1080P display at least and a lower ended Nvidia card, it just helps a lot with the CPU and your apps... I am clueless on giving an answer...

Hello, I've made a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate a few days ago, and I started to encounter the following problem after 30-60 minutes:

It usually happens when I'm running a computer game (any game), I experience a sudden fps drop, even though before that, on maximum quality the game was running perfectly, becomes unenjoyable, quit the game. The CPU meter gadget shows 100%, and even after I close everything, browser, windows explorer, the best I get at idle is 70-80%, and if I try to open anything at all, it becomes stuck at 100% again. So I open task manager and go processes, put them in a descending order of processor usage, and see that they nowhere near add up to 100%, even though at the bottom the task manager says CPU usage is at 100%. Phyiscal memory is usually around 20-60%, no problems with that.
If I go to Performance tab, and click on resource monitor, I experience the same thing: the actual usage is nowhere near 100%, I can't see any processes that would explain for the performance drop, in fact the highest demanding process is the resource monitor itself.

The problem presists until I restart the computer, shutting down takes much longer now.
I've been trying to find a solution online for two whole days now, it's very frustrating.

first of welcome to the forum.

I suspect a rogue program, but as youve updated drivers youve already covered what you can do. it could be a known compatibility issue with your hardware and a specific driver, but i cannot comment for sure as theres alot of hardware combinations.

however, heres the bad news, i recently had a laptop to repair that had the exact same problem, and i couldnt fix it for the life of me, no matter what i tried, the problem even occurred in safe mode (try this if you haven't already) and i eventually after much shouting and swearing, put the problem down to a dying CPU.

There might be some tension during Google's next boardroom meeting.

In a report released yesterday, Morgan Stanley analyst Mark Edelstone claimed that the Internet giant is favoring Advanced Micro Devices' Opteron processors for most near-term server purchases. Previously, Google (nasdaq: GOOG - news - people ) relied on Intel (nasdaq: INTC - news - people ) chips to power its many servers.

"We believe that Google is one of [AMD's] largest customers for servers," Edelstone wrote in the report.

Google spokeswoman Sonya Borälv would not comment on that assertion, saying only that the company "continually evaluates the price and performance of its computing infrastructure to guide purchasing decisions."

If it is true, however, the news will surely come as a blow to Intel chief executive Paul Otellini, who sits on Google's board. AMD (nyse: AMD - news - people ) is the No. 2 manufacturer of computer processors behind Intel. Its processors are cheaper than Intel's and have recently been winning over many corporate customers.

Last quarter, AMD grabbed more than 20% of the market for the first time in more than four years. In his report, Edelstone speculated that AMD's new business with Google might help it beat analysts' estimates this quarter.

Will any of the 300-plus attendees of Google's analyst meeting -- which began today at 10:00 am PST (1:00 pm EST) and concludes approximately four hours after that -- be able to sort the matter out?

i would say no if there has not been a bios update in a while with a list of currently supported cpus i would only upgrade to ones that came out with the system, so if the fastest k330b was with an i5 760 then thats italso the mobo you have is 1155 and that cpu is a 1150if you do get another cpu you might need to reformat and install windows as sometime it does not go well

Answer:Intel reportedly releasing just two socketed Broadwell CPUs

It often makes you wonder why push Broadwell now, when Haswell has a lot of traction and it's a few months to Skylake. They also included some BGA in the mix for other devices, but pushing a desktop chip seems a bit odd. Given the few months in between them and people unlikely, to drop Haswell unless for lower power systems.

All in all it's negligible power savings, we'd need to obviously see how the integrated graphics fair. It might be a solution for some people, but obviously not everyone is going to see it as a huge importance. It's kinda amusing to me because, I'm looking to replace my mobo / CPU right now. I'd likely sit and wait for Skylake, simply because I'd only be wanting to buy one upgrade. Upgrading is a low priority right now anyways, so there's less inclination to spend right away.

Ummm, Nvidia dominates pc gaming gpu market so how could they loose? Do you have any figures to support theses claims? If anything G-sync wins if no real contender enters the arena. Would prefer if VESA thing was standard and all would use it but as I said Amd is at all time low with no hope in sight and when there's no other companies making these products there's no real competition for g-sync. Anyone who uses integrated graphic don't know or care about these things so intels move doesn't contribute one bit.

Found @ AnandTech: Intel's Menlow Revealed: Baby Centrino Gets Ready

Quote:

As we wrote about at last year's IDF, Menlow is the name of this new ultra mobile platform that Intel is working on. In Intel's terms the platform refers to the CPU + chipset, much like how Centrino is a combination of an Intel CPU, Intel chipset and Intel wireless adapter.

The Menlow project began back in 2004, so what you're hearing about today is much like what Centrino was back in 2003. We're on the verge of something very big (I could insert a pun here about how Menlow is actually very small and it's ironic that it's also something very big, but I won't; you can thank me later).

Menlow consists of the Silverthorne processor and the Poulsbo chipset. If you're in dire need of yet another codename, the core used in Silverthorne is also known as Bonnenn.

Silverthorne is a brand new architecture, highly simplified from current Core 2 chips (thus reducing die size and power consumption) but still compatible. Silverthorne is an x86 chip, meaning it can run the same applications as your desktop and notebook; and it's technically ISA compatible with Merom (65nm Core 2 Duo), meaning it has support for up to SSE3 but lacks SSE4 instructions.

You can see the chip in the picture above; it's tiny. Because of its size you can guess that it's not a very complex core, and not full of cache, despite the obvious reductions in hardware Intel promises that Silverthorn... Read more

Answer:New computer with Intel Skylake processor

Hi, Brad: You can install W7, 8.1, and W10 as long as there is driver support for the notebook you plan to buy. The problem with the Skylake chipset is there is no native USB2 support, and there is no USB3 support in the windows 7 installation media.  So the media errors out stating a required CD/DVD driver is missing (which is the only error it knows how to report when that happens). If you plan on running W7, what you have to do is to run this tool which puts the USB3 drivers into the W7 USB installation media.  There is a readme file on the link with instructions for using the tool or converting a W7 installation DVD into a W7 installation flash drive. The tool has to be run on a PC with W8.1 or W10. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility There are many forum posts regarding this issue and the USB creator tool is the solution.  Here's two for example. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Problem-installing-Win7-on-ProBook-440-G3-HDD-... http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Problem-installing-Win7-Pro-on-P...

Hello everyone,
I am looking forward to the new technologies and innovations coming out later this year and next that will fully take advantage of the Windows 10 OS ecosystem. I have a few questions and wish list in regards to what would be best for my next purchase.CPUs: AMD zen vs Intel Skylake. What do you think would be better to purchase in regards to CPUs? I don't know too much about CPU, but I do have a basic grasp in understanding. AMD has something called HUMA: do Intel CPUs have that? AMD also has something called APUs which puts the CPU and GPU in the same core without the PCI bridge to avoid latency. Direct X 12 is also something that these new CPUs are going to be optimized for which will be great for gaming, watching HD movies, multi tasking etc. Will these chips be powerful, compact, and energy efficient to but fit into a small tablet?OLED screens: Super AMOLED and OLED are going to be used in rumored Cityman and Talkman windows phones. However can that also be used for Windows Tablet screens 7inches and higher? Many are making a big deal about the news of the Skylake CPU release by Intel. It had been promised earlier, but seems to be weeks ahead of schedule. So, My question is: Why Does That Matter to the PC Industry?here are just a few possible answers. Quote. An initial batch of Skylake CPUs (6600K and 6700K) was announced for immediate availability during the Gamescom on August 5, 2015, unusually soon after the release of its predecessor, Broadwell, which had suffered from launch delays. It just might be that Skylake is better for mobile devices.( Read smartphones and tablets that have to have great graphics on low power.)http://wccftech.com/intel-processor-roadmap-leaked-10nm-cannonlake-skylakee-arrives-q3-2016-skylake-muy-chips-q4-2015/Also:http://appleinsider.com/futures/intel-skylake-macbook-proThe next generation of MacBook Pros will likely incorporate Intel's Skylake processor platform, and possibly other new technologies, such as USB-C and Thunderbolt 3.More on Apple:http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/mac/new-imac-2016-release-date-rumours-new-imac-2016-price-specs-new-features-imac-pro-3511338/Updated, 9 August 2016, to consider the possibility that a pumped-up 'iMac Pro' could replace the Mac Pro; on 26 July, with the news that Intel has launched Kaby Lake processors, and on 12 July 2016 to discuss the inclusion of AMD CPUs in the 2016 iMac.Now think about iPhone 8.  Comments? Hi, all Recently I have just refunded my ThinkPad W510 and I am still thinking of what machine to get. I am a heavy VM user and I would either use VMware ESXi, Workstation 7 or Microsoft Hyper-V. W510 with 720QM performs well on this, but I refund it due to unresolved overheating and sound issues. Most or all of Intel Core i7 (1st Gen) are equipped with both Intel VT-d and VT-x technology. Although, 2nd Gen Intel Core i7 2630QM are quad-core are only equipped with Intel VT-x, but not VT-d.Another option for me to get a laptop in school, 2nd Gen Intel Core i7 2620M are dual core, but are equipped with both VT-x and VT-d. Unless I get W520 in school, then I would have the Intel Core i7 2720QM. In between this three, which is best for VM?1. 720QM2. 2620M3. 2630QM Please AdviceThanksPeter

Answer:Intel Core i7 (1st Gen) 720QM vs Intel Core i7 (2nd Gen) 2630QM on VM.

The 2720QM is the fastest one out of all that you mentioned. Since you say you're going to be running VMs, you really should focus more on RAM. Whatever processor you get you should make sure it has all the current instruction sets, no sense in buying the latest Core series processor if it is crippled. I would also like to know what you were doing when the W510 was overheating since that is very strange. You didn't have it on something that was blocking the intake ports did you?

Got tired of waiting and bought 4690k months ago. Giving todays exchange rate, paid exactly $230+VAT. Probably saved some on DDR3 vs DDR4, maybe s1151 MOBOs will be also more expensive on release, while You can buy s1150 on sales and specials. What I don't get is the sentence: 'If so, what CPU are you upgrading from or are you building an entirely new PC from scratch?'? It's not like You can upgrade just Skylake, have to basically build a new PC: CPU, MOBO, RAM. If You play building your PC, rest is usually left over from previous builds.

Hello,
Does anyone know why the new Skylake "Speed Shift" (aka Hardware P-state control) would appear disabled on my Windows 10, and how to enable it?
This is a Core i5-6500 CPU on ASUS H170-Pro mobo and incidentally when I boot into Linux (latest Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with kernel version 4.4.x) the "dmesg" output appears to show "HWP enabled".
I do have the latest Win10 release version (10586 and 1511) which should have this feature available.
See the screenshot of HWInfo64 summary showing "SST" text in red colour (also highlighted in a red circle by me) meaning it's supported/available but disabled:
My mobo BIOS (latest version) does not have "Speed Shift" option anywhere just the older "Speed Step" mentioned which I've set to "Auto" - but again - this appears to be working/enabled on Linux.
Thanks!

Answer:Intel Speed Shift not enabled on my Skylake+Win10 PC

Windows 10 v1511 does not support Hardware P-States for desktop Skylake CPUs. That's why HWInfo is showing you HWP as being disabled.
Speed Shift is currently only supported for mobile Skylake CPUs on Windows 10.

Hi guys. I've been looking at 2 laptops, they are basically identical but one has an Intel Core i3-4005U mobile processor and 4GB of RAM, and the other one has an AMD A4-5000 mobile processor and 6GB RAM. The guy at the store and a couple other people I know told me that the Core i3 is better than the A4 as the AMD "Quad Core" processors aren't very good, so even though the Intel i3 is only dual core it will be better than the quad core AMD. The other question is the RAM. Is 6GB that much better than 4GB or will 4GB be fine for basic use. (That's all this laptop is for. Basic use and touch apps since it will be touchscreen)

The AMD laptop is this one: Buy the HP Pavilion Notebook - AMD A4, 6GB, 15.6 at TigerDirect.ca
And the Intel here: Buy the HP TouchSmart 15.6 Notebook PC - F5W37UA#ABL at TigerDirect.ca

Last question, what the hell is DDR3L? All the new laptops have it nowadays... Is it backward compatible with normal DDR3 laptop RAM? Meaning can I take a normal laptop DDR3 4GB stick out of my dads laptop and put it into the 4GB (i3) laptop if thats the one i'm gonna get? Or does the DDR3 "L" part cause issues?
Thanks

Edit: Sorry i'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread. If it isn't mods could you please move it? Thanks

Answer:AMD A4-5000 "Quad Core" vs Intel Core i3-4005U Dual Core

Hmm, I guess you should read some reviews. But just from the specs the AMD has 6 GB ram instead of 4. Has a DVD burner where the Intel shows no optical drive. It only has W8 8.0 where the Intel has 8.1. But some people may prefer 8.0.

Read reviews. See how each performs. If you don't wish to use it to burn DVD then the optical drive, or lack thereof may not matter to you.

Edit: Oh, and the AMD is about $80 cheaper.

*RESOLUTION*
-Go to your BIOS(After restarting or powering on computer keep tapping F2 once the Dell logo is present)
-Scroll down to Performance
-DISABLE C state
-Apply, save, exit
-Disable sleep in your control panel power options
Enjoy your now functional XPS 8900 that used to freeze multiple times a day.

Below is what it was initially doing before I found a fix
So I recently got xps 8900, immediately installed a SSD drive and upgraded the ram from 8GB to 16GB.
I also used the old logitech solar keyboard and logitech wireless mouse from the old computer(they use a little usb receiver) and only been using these wireless devices for today and it's frozen twice. Couldn't even plug in a usb mouse or keyboard and have the computer respond.

For the first two days while doing the initial ssd install and windows 10 updates this computer stayed on for two straight days using the included wired mouse/keyboard. No issues with computer freezing or booting up.
But when I gave this computer as a Christmas gift then installed the old wireless logitech keyboard and mouse the computer has frozen twice in a span of 8 hours.
So I'm not sure if it's a USB issue or if the wifi card is causing problems because I've seen a few threads mention to remove this card or disable a wifi driver as they've had BSOD or other issues.
Computer looks great and seems to run perfectly, until these last two freezing issues. I plan on bu... Read more

According to MSI and Biostar representatives on the Computex 2015 show floor, speaking to PC Gamer, motherboards that feature Intel's new Z170 chipset will become available this August.

Answer:Intel Skylake-supporting Z170 motherboards coming in August

It better come with Thunderbolt 3 included, if they want to attract PC enthusiasts.

On a related subject, this new Thunderbolt 3 isn't as good as we hoped...

Thunderbolt 3 also includes an update to the DisplayPort side of matters, though likely not what everyone has been expecting. With the increase in bandwidth, Thunderbolt 3 is able to carry twice as much video data as before. However Intel is not implementing the latest version of DisplayPort ? DisplayPort 1.3 ? in to the Thunderbolt 3 standard. Instead they are doubling up on DisplayPort 1.2, expanding the number of equivalent DisplayPort lanes carried from 4 to 8, essentially allowing one Thunderbolt 3 cable to carry 2 full DisplayPort 1.2 connections. The end result is that Thunderbolt 3 will not be able to drive the kind of next-generation displays DisplayPort 1.3 is geared towards ? things like 8K displays and 5K single-tile displays ? but it will be able to drive anything 1 or 2 DisplayPort 1.2 connections can drive today, including multiple [email protected] monitors or 5K multi-tile displays.Click to expand...

source: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9331/intel-announces-thunderbolt-3

So, basically, they had all the opportunity to have DisplayPort 1.3 included, but decided not to. That is just wrong... It won't even support a single-tile 5K screen. And if so, then what good is it, really?

Hi Community,
My XPS 13 9350 (4k touchscreen) continues to have issues with the screen flickering.  The screen flickering occurs in one of two ways.
Temporary Flickering.  Screen flickers off and on quickly, twice every second.  Turning the computer to sleep and back on again can fix this issue.
Permanent flickering.  Screen flickers off and on quickly, twice every second.  When the screen turns black a weird horizontal bar with different colors displays across the middle of the screen.  After a few seconds the screen stabilizes but then flashes again and repeats the pattern.  Turning the computer the sleep and back on doesn't normally resolve the issue.  I have to turn off the computer completely wait 5 to 10 minutes before turning it back on.  This occurs when I using the laptop on my lap or during my 1 hour bus commute to college.

I tried updating the video card drivers.  Currently it's 20.19.15.4444 (Intel 520)
BIOS:  1.3.3
Updated all drivers via the "Dell Update" software client.
Disable Panel Self Refresh: Via Intel HD control panel
Changed resolutions:  1080p
Changed Refresh rate: 60p Hz -> 48 Hz
Attached an external monitor via dell TB15.  Mix results, the display shows other issues which I believe are most due to the poor TB15 dock than the XPS itself.
Any ideas?

Hi All,

I would like to know more about Windows 7 support for the Intel Kaby lake/Skylake CPUs. What will happen when I deploy windows 7 OS onto a new laptop/desktop with that CPU?

My understanding is that one of the follow two scenarios will occur.
1)Windows updates will be downloaded and installed as per normal but they won't be tested for that platform/OS combination. So MS won't provide any support if the behavior of some software changes.
2)There might be some logic built into the updates so that when it detects windows 7 with kaby/skylake, the updates will simply not be installed.

Also, to add to the above - Will deploying the patches via SCCM/WSUS influence the above behavior?

I have already conducted some research, but couldn't get to the answer.

Gerhard

Hello,
Does anyone know when Dell will put out the BIOS FIX for this machine? They already did for the 7050 and the 7440aio and similar models back in June/First Week but not the 7040s running 6th gen same processors?
According to the news, for 6th gen it should already be available from the oems, and for now, disable the hyper-threading in the bios but that makes it WORSE running at 0.87 etc. Needs updated for the 7040s.
Thanks!

Answer:Dell OptiPlex 7040 (Skylake - Intel Bug) Hyper-Threading BIOS FIX?

The June BIOS updates for the 7050 and 7440AIO make no specific mention of the H-T issue. So do you know that H-T was already fixed for those models?
And if you read the article at ExtremeTech:
"For the record, while ExtremeTech believes Intel that these errata exist, we are not aware of any software programs affected by them and have not observed any issues with our Skylake or Kaby Lake testbeds.  I just read in a different posting that there are known  incompatibility issues with Intel's Skylake motherboards and early-manufactured Hynix memory chips.  These memory chips would have been assembled into modules by other companies who slap their name on the memory.  (I had never even heard of Hynix as a memory manufacturer before, but I just read in Wikipedia that they are the second largest manufacturer of memory in the world after Samsung.)  I have been having all sorts of memory problems using Corsair ValueSelect DDR4 260-Pin SODIMM 2133 (PC4 1700) Memory in my P50 and I am wondering whether anyone else is having similar problems?  I haven't yet determined whether the Corsair memory is based upon the early Hynix modules but this would explain everything.

I have just about decided to go with the e6300 but want to make sure one last time it is the right way to go. These two CPU's are the same price. According to most people the e6300 left the 4200+ in the dust in all tests. I do however still like AMD... What do you guys think? The e6300 or the 4200+. Even though both are low core speeds (1.87 and 2.2ghz respectively) they still out perform a 3.6ghz pentium 4. Is this correct? I dont understand why a CPU with low core speed can outperform one with very high speed? I was always under the impression that core speed was the main determinant of "performance". If anyone could clear this up it would be hugely appreciated. Also, for the same money I can buy a Intel Pentium*D-940 CPU - 3.2 Ghz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 x 2MB L2 Cache, LGA775...

Which of these 3 is the best?

All help would be hugely appreciated.

Regards,

Korrupt

Answer:Intel e6300 core 2 duo conroe VS AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4200+ AM2 D/CORE

Out of those 3, the E6300 is the best. Conroe's new architecture is so efficient, that easily outperforms Netburst based CPU´s (P4, PD, Celeron D), and even manages to outperform AMD CPU's.

You can see by yourself HERE. All Conroe CPU's perform excellent. And you can overclock them very easily, and that way, your 1.8GHZ Conroe overclocked to 2000-2400 MHZ will completely trash the other CPU's.

I did a check today on my computer because its been running slower than I thought it would when I bought it. When I ran the test it said I have 1 core working, and that the processor is at 2.36 GHz, not the 2.66 it should be at. I don't know why only 1 of the cores is working, so I was hoping one of u tech guys out there might know... Can anyone help?

Answer:Solved: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 with only 1 working core

Sure!

Can you give specifics on your computer such as make and model # and your OS?
(if custom built; motherboard model and model#, operating system, memory amount, BIOS settings if applicable..etc)

I am looking to build my own PC as I can't afford £1,000+ to get someone to make one for me, I will be using it for gaming and communication and a little college work, I will probably be using Bullguard to protect it and OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office with a Win 7 64bit OS.

Bearing this in mind what would be the best Processor for the Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor and what would be the maximum Memory and Storage I could attach to it? ( I preferably want 8GB of Memory and 1tb of storage ) but I can be flexible.

Answer:What would be the best motherboard for a Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz Quad-Core (BX80637I53570K) Processor?

The CPU you want is the i5 3570K. That runs on the socket LGA 1155. When you are on a budget, any mid range mobo will suit your needs. Use the savings from the mobo towards a better HDD or even an SSD. You will also need a GPU.

I would recommend the ASUS P8Z77-V LK motherboard. As for RAM, 8GB is enough. As for the HDD, 1TB is great. I recommend the WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD.

Make sure you can get in a GPU.

Hi guys,
have anyone from you terrible mouse, keyboard or gamepad reception thru radio dongle? im using this NUC 6i5SYH, 8GB Kit Kingston 2133Mhz DDR4, 250GB Crucial MX200 SSD, 2TB Seagate M9T HDD with my TV LG OLED 55EG910V (HDMI) and Microsoft All-in-one Media Keyboard.
It has terrible LAG from 2-3m distance on IDLE, even worst if some work is done on it. (once I was installing something big on my SSD and the mouse doesnt even move a bit, totally freeze out there till the end of installation)
Windows 10 is clean install from USB, with just necesary drivers from Intel site.
Tried also with my Logitech Illuminated Living Room Keyboard K830, Logitech G700s Mouse + 2x Logitech F710 Wireless Gamepads same issue. Gamepads doesnt work at all from distance 2m+ , from close range lot of lags.
Already tried install latest BIOS + drivers, uninstall Realtek Soundcard (as mentioned in other sites) none of them worked.
All my peripherals work flawlessly on front Case USB 3.0 header under Windows 7 Pro SP1 (ASUS Maximus IV GENE Z + Silverstone TJ08-E)
So Im sure it has something to do with crappy Windows 10 + USB 3.0 on Intels NUC
Should I contact Intel or perhaps Microsoft to deal with my issue?
Any help would be appreciated.

Intel Core i3-2330M + Intel HD Graphics 3000 = Black Screen
Hi,

first of all, my words of deep and sincere appreciation and thanks for this website. I use it, though only sporadically, for many, many years and always got very professional and useful help here!

Today I am inquiring about a problem that seems to be quite common and wide-spread, based on my own Internet searches: the bad combination of the Intel Core i3-2330M processor and the Intel HD Graphics 3000. During normal operations, my system works with that. But when using render software (POV-Ray) or attempting to play games, then I am getting that famous Black Screen. The laptop still continues to work, but I cannot see anything anymore. Only a restart helps, unfortunately. My online search did not reveal any solution, and having downloaded the "Intel Driver Update Utility", nothing new can be downloaded it seems.

I am speaking out here today about my problem with the hope, that someone here know a functioning solution. I need my system in order to create renders, that is my work. I just recently upgraded my system with that better processor, and it kills me now.

System Specs

Compaq Presario CQ57 Refurbished
Intel i3-2330M Processor
Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Driver)
16 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium

The response of the system (no-boot with the Xeon CPU aboard) is your answer:  NO.  This system won't take that CPU.
Since the system won't boot with the Xeon CPU aboard, it matters not which OS you plan to run.

I plan to upgrade to the listed components all of the rest of the hardware has been determined to be compatible. After the components are switched out I want to verify, my approach of Win 7 Pro installation will work and if not, would someone please correct me and give me advice as to the proper approach? What my idea was after everything is hooked up and ready to install OS, I would turn on enter bios set to boot from cd, and set to AHCI since I'll be reusing my Samsung 840 120GB SSD and leave the rest of the bios set to default at that time. I'll have my Logitech model 520 wireless keyboard with the model 310 wireless mouse which came together. Does this approach seem like it should work especially the wireless keyboard/mouse? I could sure use some corrections for the proper way of installing the OS if not, it would sure be appreciated Thanks!

Im not understanding what the X.XXGHz mean...is that based on the processor?

I understand that Intel Core Duo has 2 processors and thats why they are so great....does that mean that it is 2.0GHz per processor? so its really 4.0GHz?

sorry if I'm way off here but I want to understand this better.

Thanks.

PS. Im not sure where this would go so please feel free to move if necessary.

I want to replace it with this: ARK | Intel? Core
I've tried simply physically replacing one with the other, but as you may guess, it's not that simple. What do I need to do? I'm on a budget of zero.

Could I get by with installation instructions, and perhaps directions towards drivers? I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Replace Intel Celeron 440 @ 2.0 GHz With Intel Core 2 Quad @ 3.0 GHz

I would suggest checking if your motherboard can support a more modern CPU. The Core 2 Quad is from 2008. You can probably get an i3 for close to the same price if your motherboard supports it.

OK, some more information:

The current installation on the Lenovo T400 (Intel 330 SSD ACHI) was done using the "double install" method using Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack Upgrade. It appears the current installation would allow me to use the Sysprep method (I didn't receive an error message when running sysprep.exe), but my concern is that when I boot up the Intel 330 SSD in my new Intel NUC, the validation won't work because the Family Pack uses an Upgrade key. The key has only been used once, so I still have 2 remaining activations, but I'm not sure if that has any relevance to the situation.

Any other recommendations? I am considering manually uninstalling the drivers, doing the swap, and hoping for the best, due to the fact that the current installation sees itself as a clean install, not an upgrade.

Answer:Move Intel SSD from T400 (Core 2 Duo) to Intel NUC (Broadwell i3)?

How do you know that activation won't work? Did you try? If the bit is already flipped from doing the double upgrade then it should reactivate with the same key since all that is needed for the transfer is to reset the hardware signature in MS Activation servers.

You also have three simultaneous activations at any one time with the Family Pack, and do not forfeit an activation for reinstalling a key to the same or other hardware. If using phone activation because web fails, then when the magic question is asked "How many installs has this copy of Win7 been made" you'd say three instead of one. If rejected again, ask for agent. If agent has problems, talk with MS Customer service who are often more attentive seeing that you get what you pay for.

What's easier than Sysprep is to reimage using a free lightweight app like Macrium Imaging - Windows 7 Help Forums then if Win7 won't boot on the new hardware as expected Adjust Win7 to boot on new hardware with Paragon Adaptive Restore CD.

Let us know how this goes.

Hay there, I recently obtained a new system for a very cheap price with a surprisingly good processer with it.

New computer: -

Stone
Intel DQ45EK mobo
Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.9GHz Socket 775
3GB ram (max 4gb)

Current Computer: -

Gigabyte P31-D3SL mobo
Intel Pentium D 925 3.00 GHz Socket 775
4GB ram

Alright so the issue is I want to swap the processors around but when I put the Pentium D into the Intel DQ45EK mobo it comes up with a blank screen with the fan blowing intensely, reboots and then just hangs with the intense fan speed. When I swap back the processors the orignal Core 2 Duo does this same thing but then it goes back to normal after a few reboots. The E7500 works fine in my old system though... I would think the pentium D would be widely supported x-x

Any ideas cause im lost at the moment.

Hi  I have lenovo z580 for one year now , Since I bought it the performance was very bad I was unstaisfied with it . from one week ago i go to bios setting and then I tried to change the vga setting from Optimus to UMA only ( it means intel vga card only ) After this i was surpriesd that performance became very good and boot time became 40 second instead of 170 second ) . So I think there is a problem with my nVIDIA card . I update the driver from NVIDIA website but still the same slowness So now I am using only the intel card Is there is any idea about this issue ?
