Question: W32/rootkit-backdoor- Based!maximus ; W32/trojan.bwzc; W32/newmalware- Lsu-based!maximus Help!

Can someone please help me get rid of these three viruses that I can't seem to get rid off?

I have tried all of the steps that you suggested before posting for help. I have downloaded Adaware, Spybot, Anti-virus program from my internet provider, MCAfee AVERT Stinger, Sygate Personal Firewall (although I am not sure what I should allow on the network or not... _) the Windows updates. And still no luck with the removal of these:

W32/Rootkit-Backdoor-based!Maximus

W32/Trojan.BWZC

W32/NewMalware-LSU-based!Maximus

Please help, they are driving me nuts. The performance of our PC is being affected. Thanks so much.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Infected With W32/behavior:selfstarterinternettrojan!maximus And W32/rootkit-backdoor-based!maximus

Hello bruder and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I see no signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.

Most ISP's get their security software from an outside vendor. I do not know who provides NTL with their package. NTL's website did not state where it comes from. Both of the files listed by the NTL package are false positives. One is for Symantec LiveUpdate and the other is for Cubase. Neither are malicious.

I would suggest keeping an eye on what this software is flagging as infections and do not simply take it for granted that what it is saying is true. If it continues to flag legitimate files as infected files then consider replacing it with a different package.

Cheers.

Hi, I'm new to this site but maybe you could help me out! When I installed Cubase SXv3.1 my anti-virus software (Command AntiVirus) told me it could not disinfect the above virus. The location was C:\Program Files\Synchrosoft\POS\H20\emu.dll. After doing some research I found that this is likely to be a false-positive (which I assume means not really a threat) and is actually part of Cubase.Anyway, I uninstalled Cubase and that particular problem seemed to go away. But now Command AntiVirus (which by the way is the anti-virus software our company uses, hence it is free for me to use at home) finds what seems to be the same virus but in a different location C:\System Volume Information\_Restore{094ED2EF-B4C2-48FA-B681-1FACB529B5DF}\PR471\A0039131.dll. A few days ago in the same location the dll file that Command was finding was called A0038992.dll.I have been through all the steps on your help page (ie Ad-Aware, Spybot, McAfee Stinger) and have installed ZoneLabs Zone Alarm (previously I only had Windows Defender.)Is this also a false positive or should I be worried? After doing some research I found that this is likely to be a false-positive (which I assume means not really a threat) and is actually part of Cubase. This is indeed a false positive, so it may be a good idea to reinstall Cubase SXv3.1 again, let it ignore the emu.dll and send a sample of the emu.dll to Command Antivirus. What's in your C:\System Volume Information are actually your system restore points, so a system restore point was made when Cubase was still installed and that explains why your Command Antivirus finds that file there as well. You can just flush your system restore points by disabling system restore, then reboot and then re-enable system restore. the above virus is recurring constantly even after it has been erased, my antivirus recognises it and i get a pop up saying it will be deleted next time i reboot, i click ok and then another file is infected with the same virus, same as above so i click ok again and reboot.an hour later the same thing happens again...strange thing is my virus software(pc guard ..telewests own) detects it in real time but when i do a manual scan it claims that my HD is clean and so does every other virus scanner except 'bitdefender,' which says im still infected. it seems like there's a kind of mother programme kicking this virus out constantly as soon as its deleted the up side of this is it dosnt seem to be doing any harm to my system ,no slowing although from time to time i get a weird little error box saying 'cled error #001' i dont know whether this is relative or not but again seems to do nothing to system performanceplease can you help me cause im a lil paranoid at the sound of this virus (backdoor-based)v much appreciated lee Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 22:35:05, on 11/07/2006Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.5346.0005)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpE... think this came in with an ati driver update the other day from windows site. only seems a problem when using graphics hungry apps, like titan quest.

game turns off, locks up, crashes. yeah i know titan quest is badly coded and has memory leaks, but i got round this by running other apps in the background. since i got this update, though, its gotten worse.

i got a warning up about w32/something patched based/maximus something or other.

I would imagine if PC Guard found it ,it would also delete it.Has it put it in the virus vault. Can you check to see if they have dissabled it.

My virus checker (Virgin PCGuard) alerted me to the presence of trojan 'W32/Sinowal-based!Maximus' that it couldn't remove. I understand this to be a dangerous trojan but the biggest problem is that it has hijacked my browser (Internet Explorer 7). It's my daughters' PC and it can't be used whilst 'adult' and gambling sites are being presented to all users.

PC guard now does not report this trojan, but its virus update process is automatically 'switched off' whenever it is switched on. Similarly, in Microsoft Security Center, Automatic Updates has been switched off and cannot be switched back on and a Window's pop-up is constantly appearing telling me to restart the PC to remove the virus, which obviously doesn't work!

I have tried to download and run Microsoft's Malicious Software removal tool and Windows Defender in an attempt to resolve the problem, but neither seemed to even run.
I've read a couple of other threads in the forum which deal with this trojan, but it seems clear that I shouldn't just go ahead and try to solve my problem by following someone else's forum responses.

I'm really hoping someone can help me with this.

Hey all,
Having a heck of a time trying to get rid of the above virus from my Dad's comp...I have no idea what he did, but it slows the computer right down and opens up a bunch of pop ups when surfing. His antivirus program (some ISP-provided prog) identified the name of the virus and says to restart to remove. I've done this, but it keeps coming back. The only other thing I've done is setup Spybot to disallow ANY reg edits and now Spybot Resident keeps popping up with the update: "Resident denied the change of BM5bet2acb (category System Startup global entry) based on your black list.

I'm relatively new at this, so any type of "spoon-feeding" would be appreciated...

Greetings oh Masters of everything!

I have a Home PC running Windows XP, using PCGuard Anti-Virus (provided by my ISP/Broadband Cable provider, Virgin Media). The Anti-Virus software detected a virus that it identifies as "W32/Sinowal-based!Maximus", but it cannot disinfect it.

I have done some basic panicky attempts at getting rid of it (running scans, downloading other scan software, reading as many help pages as I could find, attempting to download Microsoft "Malicious Software Removal Tool" and other Microsoft Updates), but this virus seems to be rather more clever than I.

It has disabled the "Automatic Updates" function. It has infected files in my Temporary Internet Files" folder and ".dll" files...

My first post, I have a nasty one see title I think its infected the reg editor because keep reappearing after virgin pc gaurd says its deleted not really sure not a tech wizard but will understand any insructions thanxxx very much!

Problems include: lots and lots of pop-ups, sometimes a explorer error which leads to temp lost of system, very slow IE (using IE7 if that helps) turns off auto update and anti virus, very rarely browsing though my docs or my computer causes slowness

Methods tryed: well my anti virus (virgin PC gaurd) in normal and safe mode and followed insructions of use for SDFix which was here that proved no good, I've looked in reg editor but really i dont know whats normal and whats not.

I did a scan with FProt Antivirus and it was not able to open alot of the files to scan them. The one thing that was found is W32/Sinowal-based Maximus. I did an online search to help remove it and came across this website. There was already someone who had the same thing but it was recommended to seek guidance. I do not have the full version of FProt Antivirus. It is the trial version. I also downloaded ClamWin Free Antivirus and did a scan. It found another virus or Trojan. I would like to be able to remove them from my computer. I know that there are probably many other problems with this computer and any guidance I can get will be appreciated. I was thinking I wanted to just start all over reinstall everything to the factory settings. If I were to do that would it get rid of all the problems on the computer including any Trojans or Virus'. Thank you.

Hello everyone,I found that I ran a file that contained these two bits of malware. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about these, as the title says, they are:Troj.Spy.W32.Agent.pnand W32/Parasitic-Fileinfector-based!MaximusI found that the file contained this by running it on Jotti's malware scan which i recommend to everyone. I have tried to do research on these, but have really come up empty handed. From what I know, Troj.Spy.w32.Agent.pn is a back door and key logger. Maximus is some sort of worm that attacks 32bit system files. Since I'm on 64-bit windows 7, do I have to worry about anything? I ran K7 Computing's virus scan which detected Troj.Spy.w32.Agent.pn in the original exe file that I ran, but nowhere else on my system. I also ran F-Prot's scan which found W32/Parasitic-Fileinfector-based!Maximus in the original exe file, but again, nowhere else.I'm wondering why I cant find any files infected on my system. Is this malware not compatible with windows 7 64-bit systems? Did they change their definition so now they cant be found? Whats the deal? Thanks,John

Maximus VI Hero or Maximus VI Formula

What motherboard has more features and is most worth it

I will be using 2 GPUS and overclocking the haswell i7 4770K

Answer:Maximus VI Hero or Maximus VI Formula

I'm almost certain the Hero will do everything you want to do, so are the extras worth $80 more? The Formula looks better, has an extra PCI Express 3.0 slot, and a little better onboard audio(not that you'll be able to notice the difference between the Formula and the Hero audio).

Visiting the in laws for the holidays and finding that their computer is completely messed up.

It keeps displaying a whole range of symptoms that I can't even keep up with.

We're talking redirects to various websites, random popups, asking to install software (Vidsoft?), changing browser settings to connect via a proxy, fake security alerts etc.

I ran through all the instructions in your sticky a few days ago. I hope I did it all correctly. Computer seemed clean, but only a few hours later all the symptoms came back.

I ran everything in your sticky again, and this time I've saved all the logs and I'm attaching them here.

I hope people here have better things to do on a quiet New Years Day, but if anyone happens to take a look at this forum I would really appreciate some help.

Thanks!

Create Icon on desktop to open a websiteYa, I?ve done that for ever and it works great. But today I was on a chat with Norton support he was on my pc remotely trying to fix a LAN Proxy problem. He uninstalled several problem malware programs and installed some other programs including Google Chrome. After he was off the system I was checking around my HP Laptop and noticed the the Desktop Icons with Apps on the PC worked but all the web based icons did not work anymore. I did the procedure like I had many times before from a web site but the Icon just will not work at all. The error I get on all of them is when I click on the icon to open itIs Application Not Found.I?ve never seen this one before but I?ll keep trying to find the solution unless one of you gentlemen have a answer for me, I do plan on uninstalling Google Chrome and testing the icons again to see if that might have something to do with it?Thanks.Rod [email protected]

Question: Windus Maximus

I was curious about ALL Windows users, but you have to pick a subforum, so I picked this one.Anyway, I have a very definite opinion about opening windows (lower-case) maximized vs. "normal", and I frequently get frustrated with the way that Windows (upper-case) behaves. But then I thought, well, maybe it behaves that way because that's the way The People WANT it to behave, and I'm the odd duck.Hence this poll.

Answer:Windus Maximus

I prefer programs to show their windows how I last left them. Thankfully, 99.9% of all programs do this. the rest are crap anyway.

Hello there ime currenty in a sticky situation ime thinking about getting the ASUS SKT-775 MAXIMUS II FORMULA motherboard. But the lady in the shop says its for crossfire.I have a GTX260 is this card going to work in this board?.Also i have seen on other forums that this motherboard can run both crossfire and sli which ever one you want to use.Ime not to bothered about running sli at this moment but i would like to run my gtx260 in this board.Any information will be awsome thanks.

Answer:Asus maximus II help

Looks like it is a crossfire board, but any PCI express
capable motherboard is usually capable of running a
single PCI express video card from the different manufacturers.
I dont see you having a problem running 1 nvidia based card.
It wont,of course,run in SLI.
You would have to get 2 crossfire cards.
Here's info on your motherboard.

Every time I start my computer, Command AntiVirus informs me that I am infected with W32/NewUnknownMalware-OC05!Maximus, and it cannot be disinfected. My computer has no other symptoms, but I am concerned it may be some form of keylogger and would like to get it removed before I log in to anything important. Performing another scan with Command AntiVirus shows no infections to be found, nor can Spybot or Ad-Aware detect it. I have even tried Spybot in safe mode with no results. I tried searching the Maximus name in Google and found nothing useful, so here I am. I would simply like a program recommendation to get this removed.

If you need any more information from me I will do my best to provide it. Below is my HijackThis log.

Hello, LesBeardly
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

We need to create an OTViewIt ReportPlease download OTViewIt by OldTimer.
Save it to your desktop.
Double click on the icon on your desktop.
Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
Push the button.

Now be for i buy the motherboard i want people who have this board to tell me what its like in terms of quality/overclocking/gaming......

If what i have read is true about the MAXIMUS VI HERO....I'm 100% buying the MSI GD65

Answer:Do anyone own this Motherboard MAXIMUS VI HERO

We've told you what we thought of MSI motherboards. Asus has probably 20+ Z87 motherboards.....more than enough to choose from. If you have your heart set on the GD-65, then buy it. I personally would stick with an Asus board for overclocking.

Hands-on With Optimus Maximus

Finally, someone has gotten a little hands-on time with the Optimus Maximus. Is this thing worth the crazy cash they are asking for it? You might be surprised. Head on over to Engadget for the rundown and check out all the pictures while you are there.

The legendary Optimus Maximus is chilling out at the Wired Store in SoHo as of this week, so we dropped by to snap a few pictures. We've gotta say we're pretty impressed, the build seems as solid as a rock, the screens are crazy bright and all the glossy keys catch the light just right.

Answer:Hands-on With Optimus Maximus

I just don't really understand - if that price is really for pros only (graphic, video, music) - than why would they want it anyway? They're supposed to know all the shortkeys already. That's why they're pros.

I mean - it's a bit stupid to sell $1,500 keyboard to the guy who works (exmpl.) with Ps and AfterEffects and Maya for 10 years and tell him - well, BUT YOU CAN SEE ALL THE SHORTKEYS. Lol.

ive just installed linux for the first time and im having problems installing video drivers. i have a old geforce2 mx card in my pc. I dled the drivers from nvidia, tried to run it from the konsole and it wouldnt work. plus once i got to the konsole (using ctrl+alt+f1) i couldnt get out. I tried init 5, init 3, telinit 5 and telinit 3; neither helped. i had to restart to get back to the gui. if anyone can help plz do so.

oh im running mandrake 9.2

thanks!

Answer:linux newbius maximus

It would help if you told us what you did to try and run the nvidia installer (which is normally works). As far as consoles go, if you were already in a gui, you could have just run a graphical version of a conosole ala xterm, aterm, etc.

Most linux distros will provide you with several virtual terminals. You found the first one via Ctrl-Alt-F1 ... the next one is Ctrl-Alt-F2 ... F3 ... F4 ... through F6. Typically the gui terminal is located above even those. Just try F7, F8, etc. That'll usually get you back to the gui.

Hi all,

I have a problem where my Command AntiVirus detects W32/Dialer.TCS-Behaviour!Maximus. I have run virus scans but nothing turns up. The Dynamic Virus protection finds and deletes these files: -

WIN7D2.TMP.EXE
SRVBXT(1).EXE

But it would appear these files keep re-occuring. Also in my C:\windows\temp folder I have had in the past 12,000 tmp files created. I have deleted these but they keep re-ocurring.

I have run Hi-Jack this and here is what it came up with: -

EDIT: Inline log removed

All help is much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Answer:W32/Dialer.TCS-Behaviour!Maximus

Hi and Welcome

While Hijackthis is good at mopping up the remaining browser hijacks it cannot find all the malware on your PC, so to be sure you are clear do run the following........

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:

[*]runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
[*]newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender

Hello, this is the first time I've had to post to your forum, through I've long known of your reputation for coming ti the aid of PC users in distress.

I seem to be infected with malware calling itself W32/FakeAlert.3!Maximus. There's a windows style popup that appears every few minutes, maybe after you've clicked on a system tray icon. It's headed "Anti-Virus" & it reads:
Virus detected, restart required.
The Anti-Virus service detected a virus that can only be removed after you restart your computer.

The file named doesnt seem to exist within the system32 folder. But there is a folder called C:\WINDOWS\system32\E177E04D548C4006A465EEB92D3DE021 which is quite new & contains quite a lot strange stuffs. There are some references to WS_FTP which I recently installed & then removed.

The other problem is that links from Google searches seem to be hi-jacked, sometimes. They point momentarily to a site called copy-book.com, then go to somewhere random.

The AV software I'm using is PcGuard from Radial Point, supplied by my ISP virgin.net. It seems to detect FakeAlert and quarantines or deletes it, but the problem keeps on coming back.

Question: Bios-Based Rootkit

Hi,
I was wondering if I was infected with some sort of undetectable bios-based rootkit. For some reason my hardware profile says (runing winxp) that I have a floppy drive installed. However, i do not have one even connected to my system. Is there some simple reason this seemingly virtual drive shows up in my hardware profile? I have tried flashing BIOS from the jumper on the board and that seemed to work fine allowing password reset and what not but it still detected that i had a floppy drive and assigned it to 1st boot priorety. Could I have some sort of rootkit hiding in a USB memory module? If i do is there a way to check for this? How much possible info can be stored in a module and can these modules be linked to piece together larger code?

I am running McAfee Total Protection and it doesnt seem to find anything, tho, if it were bios-based i believe any antivirus protection would be patched as it were being installed. Would no doubtedly have net access to possibly patch windows components..? Or maybe im just paranoid and never noticed the floppy before. Either way I hope someone can enlighten me on this mysterious drive.

TIA,
Str8fe

Answer:Bios-Based Rootkit

Welcome Str8fe
Sorry for the late reply
Its normal for PC's that have no flopy drive yet they are listed in bios and windows device manager.

Most times when the prompt to press F2, Del or another key becomes visible on the screen [depends upon the BIOS] I just repetitively start pressing that key, not holding it down.

Since a couple of weeks my son is having continous BSODs with CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT on his Gaming PC which is about 3 years old which worked very stable until then.

We have reset the mainboard settings to default (no overclocking) and also done a fresh install of Windows 10 which is now a version from early December. Also we've flashed the latest BIOS from Asus.

The system runs fine as long as there is no system load. When he puts load on it (or when running Prime 95), the BSOD happens very quickly.

I've also run Prime 95 in Safe Mode and there it ran smoothly for 2 hours. When running in normal Windows mode, it crashes after a few seconds / no longer than 2 minutes after start.

System Config is here:

Can you follow these instructions - https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/ ? No need to create a new topic by the way (referring to step 3) — you already have one here.

I'm quite certain that there's a hardware fault with the CPU. When you run Prime95 how hot does the CPU get? To debug a 0x101 we typically need a full dump rather than a minidump, but there may be no point obtaining one in your case...

BTW did you turn on Driver Verifier?

It takes around a minute from the time i turn my pc on till it gets into windows which i know isnt right for my system.

It takes about 20-30 seconds to get to windows loading screen as bios takes a while and then it detects my drives which takes another 8 seconds or so.

Systems specs are:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB)
GeForce 9800 GX2 1024MB GDDR3
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 DHX PC2-6400C4DHX TwinX (2x1GB)

200GB SATA 150 Maxtor 8MB Cache Hard Drive
Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2

Surely something isnt right..

I've updated my bios to the latest version.

Please help, thanks.

Answer:Anybody here with asus maximus m/b? Slow boot up

Could be a memory problem. If you have more than one stick, remove one & try it again. If that doesn't help stick the one in that you removed & remove the other one.
It could always be a faulty cable as well, but I would try the ram first.

Hello,
My father's computer has apparently been infected with a malware virus. Because of this, he is unable to connect to the internet at all - therefore I cannot download and run several of the online scans suggested in many of the messages posted here.

I did run the Clearwire scan (before it quit working too) and it said that it detected:

W32/new-malware!maximus and it was located in:

c:\windows\system32\wins\svchost.exe

BUT...it would not quarantine it and it couldn't remove it either. (sucks)

I have since purchased Bitdefender but I cannot even get it to run in safe mode AND It won't allow me to install it at all - not even to run a pre-scan. I've gone through the taskmanager processes running and there are several Svchost process running and I have tried ending them. Some make my system automatically shut down in 60 seconds.

I have run out of ideas and really need some help. If anyone has some Ideas....I'm all ears!
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

I have an Asus Maximus VII Hero Motherboard that has a feature called KeyBot.

With a USB keyboard plugged into the correct USB port on the motherboard, you are meant to be able to press Del and boot straight to UEFI BIOS.

This feature used to work and the lights on my keyboard (for num lock etc) used to remain on when the system was shutdown.

This is no longer working and the lights are all off when shutdown.
The only thing I can think of is that this feature may have stopped working after updating to the latest BIOS version (3103).

I updated the BIOS due to another issue I was having (which solved it) so I don't really want to roll back just to get KeyBot working.

What do you suggest? Should I roll back and check if Keybot then works and contact Asus informing them of the issue I'm having, or is there something else I can try?

Thanks

Hi all
I have just built a computer, not my first, with the Asus maximus formula 9 mobo. All seems to have come together well, but when I boot, I get the ROG screen telling me to press delete or f2 to enter bios and it doesn't matter how many times I press or hold these buttons it won't go to Bios.

I then get the American Megatrends screen, which recognises ram (albeit at a lower speed than the ram I've installed) and CPU and data devices, but it sticks on this screen. The AM screen says press F1 to run set up, but this does nothing also.

My mobo q LEDs are all extinguished except for boot, which is green. The error code display reads A0 which I understand means everything is fine.

I wonder if there is a keyboard issue. All lights display on the kb, indicating there is power. The system speaker doesn't beep to say there is no kb, and the AM screen recognises there is a keyboard but I read in the mobo manual that I should be able to press ctrl alt del to reset and I cannot. Plus I can't seem to get into the bios despite the mobo thinking all is fine.

Grateful for help please!

I'm currently trying to overclock my Intel Q9450 (stock 2.66 GHz) to 3.0 GHz, wondering if these numbers look ok:

CPU:
FSB: 375 Mhz
Multiplier: 8x
Final Clock: 3000 MHz
Voltage: 1.3V

Idle Temp: 46~50 C
Load Temp: 55-65 C
HSF: Zalman CNPS 9700

Motherboard (Asus Maximus Formula):
Northbridge: 1.35V
Temp: 52 C

RAM (OCZ Platinum DDR2 800Mhz PC6400 Revision 2):
Timings: 4-4-4-15 CL2 T2
Frequency: 901 MHz

Idle/Load Temp: Unknown
Cooling: Heatspreader + OCZ XTC RAM Cooler with 2x 60mm Fans

Chasis:

Antec P180B with 4x 120mm Fan (2 intake, 2 exhaust) in upper chamber, 1x 120mm fan in lower chamber.

PSU: Antec TPQ 850W Modular

Any opinions on these numbers? especially the temperature and voltages. I have some experience overclocking my E6600, but I don't know the stock voltages on the NB, or what the normal operating temps for the Q9450 is. TIA

I've got two 4 pin plugs just under the PCI Slot on my new motherboard (see attached picture) and can't find any info on what they do? Manual and online manual have no mention of these pins. Any ideas?

Answer:Maximus Gene Motherboard Identified Component

Next time post full board name, since you say "new" and from the pic you posted I can understand that it is a Maximus V Gene, but there are Maximus IV Gene and so on down to Maximus Gene and each is a generation older.

That's a PCI-Express slot, or PCI-e. All slots on that board are PCI-e. PCI is legacy and you don't find legacy on ROG boards (and on most mini-ATX boards as well).

As for those pins, I found nothing as well.

I'd speculate that they were placed for Asus to do some tests on the motherboard before shipping. I did see other boards that do have pins placed only for the manufacturer's own quality control testing instruments, but more often than not, they were clearly labeled as such in the manual.

Hi Everyone,

I have a new motherboard (Maximus v Gene) and I've brought a Icy Box (IB-865) card reader to make use of the USB 3 connector on the motherboard. However the unit works well for a dozen reboots and then it malfunctions. After a dozen reboots the Icy Box power light no longer powers up and the storage cards I plug into the unit no longer show up in windows. The only way i can resolve the issue is to open up the case and unplug and plug the unit back in. Its not faulty as i've retunred one unit thinking it was faulty but the same fault as reappeared on the new unit. I've tried upgrading and downgrading the BIOS and playing with a few settings but no joy. Can anyone think of anything i can try without having to keep opening up the case?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Icy Box (IB-865) on a ASUS Maximus v Gene Board USB 3 incompatible?

It could be that it gets put to sleep for no good reason (it happens), try the following:

Go to your Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > and click on the "Device Manager" button.

In the Device Manager window, find the item or items labeled "Universal Serial Bus controllers." Open it, and double-click the first item called "USB Root Hub."

In the USB Root Hub Properties dialog, click on the "Power Management" tab.

"Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked by default.

Uncheck this box, and click "OK."

Repeat for all "Universal Serial Bus controllers." items if there is more than one.

Whats up gents?

So i am having an issue with the audio on my mobo. if i let my pc set for a long time or i put it in sleep without playing audio, when i get back to it and turn it back on, the audio is incredibly distorted and sounds horrible! the only fix is to either restart the PC, restart realtek driver, or change the sampling rate. all of those fix it instantly.

now i do have an issue with my front panel io audio, basically i found out that it was getting shorted out on the case and causing bad audio in the front. i since then "fixed" it and its working except the mic. so maybe it could be that or something? idk

i think it may be driver issue relating to the amp.

reinstalling drivers had no effect.

Answer:Maximus VIII Gene Audio Issue

I have a ROG Maximus VIII Hero M/B.

For testing, I would disconnect the front panel audio connection from the motherboard. May not be the problem, but eliminates one potential.

What all is listed in the Device Manager, Sounds section?

Problems after sleep can be drivers, turning off some power option, etc.

After the power off the start and reset button are still lit up and the red led's on the motherboard are still lit. I have also tried unplugging all hardware to the mobo just to see if it will boot up, not matter what hardware is connected it will still do the same thing.

MOBO: asus maximus v formula
CPU: I7-3770K
PSU: corsair hx750
RAM: g-skill ripjaws

Answer:Power Problem ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA V

That particular board has the main 24-pin ATX connection on the right hand side of the board, and an 8-pin AND a 4-pin connection at the top left/middle of the board. Are all of these connections seated fully? Some say you only have to plug in the 8-pin at the top, but you might need the 8-pin and 4-pin as well.

Hello,
I'm looking to build a relatively cheap gaming build. This will be my first build and I'm stuck between choosing either the maximus or the deluxe. Both are currently within my budget. I'm looking to mainly play starcraft, league, dota, hon and watch movies on this desktop. As I am not near a router, I cannot connect with ethernet so I need the onboard wifi. This is my current build: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/daherr/saved/VsKscf

Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to keep the budget under 1k

Thanks

Answer:Asus maximus vi impact or z87i deluxe

Never had an Impact but on a formula right now and have had the Z87I deluxe I personally would say the Maximus is the better but I overclock my computers to the max and u can screw up any board doing that Processors are pretty forgiving if u do not burn it up and I say that get good cooling which is a requirement even for playing games if u live in a warm climate.
then I looked at u're part picker and would say get 16MGB of memory and get a hard drive for more storage, they are cheap.

Hello all,
First post here on the forum, Carey Holzman referred me to this place.
Just want your general thoughts here; what do you guys think about the Asus Maximus VI ROG Hero Mobo? I already bought it for a build I'm gonna be putting together here before Christmas (link for parts http://pcpartpicker.com/user/ferwindjacks/saved/2QDF) but I just want to know any more info that someone may have here and tell me if it was a good choice or not.

Please help me !!! I for the life of me can't figure out how to have all 6 speakers playing at once with my Z506 5.1 from Logitech . I have windows 8.1 and have a Asus Maximus VI Formula and no extra sound card. I've went into the Asus software and selected the dolby digital 5.1 option but it seems to be random when all six speakers work at the same time ... usually on Youtube.com. Is there any way to have all of my speakers working at all times ? Please help !!! Thank you

Hi all I'm looking to buy a new motherboard sometime this week, I'm looking to upgrade from a MSI Z77A-GD65 motherboard to a more powerful overclocking board. I am currently Running a i5 3570k @ 4.2 ghz and 2 Xfx Black Edition 7970 Crossfired. I'm trying to pick from either the

Asus Maximus V Extreme board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131858 or the

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP7 board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128569 the reason I'm switching motherboard is because currently I'm buying my parts for my full water cooling loop so I want to get a new board in the case before I install and fill the loop, and I plan on upgrading to a 3rd 7970 graphic card and I want to easily be able to overclock the whole system. Any Opinions be great I am just looking for a Z77 Platform 1155 Socket motherboard ( I'm not upgrading my processor yet) with 3/4way CFX and SLI support also which BIOS do you prefer better Asus or Gigabyte? Thanks a lot!

Answer:Asus Maximus V Extreme or Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP7?

Neither, I don't think it's wise to spend $350+ on what is now a legacy socket for a few extra Mhz. If you really need the extra CPU power you should save up for Ivy Bridge E (or get a 3770K), and if you're just gaming the 3570K at 4.2Ghz is more than enough.

Thinking of making the big switch from years of AMD gaming rigs to INTEL.
Currently am using a crosshair v formula z mobo with an fx 8150 cpu, and was going for a maximus vii hero mobo with an i7 4790k cpu.

Is this a worthwhile upgrade?
Is the maximus mobo inferior to my formula v?
I know the intel cpu is vastly better than the amd, but would I see a big improvement in my gaming?
Would I be able to use my 16gb 1600mhz corsair vengeance ram?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Good afternoon,
I am going to try and keep this short. Getting code 55 "memory not inserted" trying to get to bios without a gpu which is coming later. PC Build:

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VIII Formula
RAM: Corsair Dominator 16GB 2X8gb DDR4
Psu: EVGA 1000T2
SSD: 850 pro 2TB
SSD: 850 pro 256GB
Cpu liquid cooler: NZXT kraken x61
Cpu: Intel i7 6700K

I have tried different ram slots, same code. When the code is present the system shuts down shortly after. Without RAM the code is 53 (no memory inserted) which tells me that the motherboard might not be the issue. The ram I have is not on the QVL but it shouldn't be a problem. Any help would be appreciated

I have an ASUS maximus VII here that I have been very happy with so far. By far one of my favorite boards to date. I am running dual GTX 780s on it and am looking to expand to 3gtx 780s..... It LOOKS like there is about a spare 6mm of clearance left over id I were to install a 3d card, but before I go drop another $450 I am hoping someone can tell me if the board will actually support 3way SLI. I cant think of why it wouldn't, but $450 is not a small amount to be doing an experiment.

I appreciate the support!

Answer:Can an ASUS Maximus VII support 3 graphics cards?

I just did some research and see that it chokes up on the last one being PCIe2.0-8x I may buy a rampage in the future and use this one in my server farm.... We will see. Still looking for opinions. I think the obvious answer is the transfer rate is not worth it but if someone wants to tell me I'm wrong, I'm all ears.

Motherboard is Asus Maximum Extreme X38. I've tried to update the BIOS using USB in the ASUS EZ Flash 2 according to the manual. I copied the the BIOS updated version from Asus dowload page, to the USB. The processor is Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9550 2.83 GHz and 2x2 Patriot Viper 1333 MHz RAM DDR3.
Now after updating the BIOS, the system doesn't POST no more and no beeps, nothing on the monitor screen (black). I guess the updated BIOS file was not the correct file.

On the display that is connected to the motherboard, it says TESTCMOS. I tried to reset that by using the clr CMOS switch on the back of the motherboard without any result. Nothing happens. I can't reset the CMOS by using the switch either. Any ideas??

Hey guys,

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit Version 1607 and it got an automatic cumulative update yesterday KB3200970. The board is Maximus VII Formula with an i7 4790K and 16Gb RAM and an ASUS Strix GTX 1080.

Following the update, I am having significant issues with my audio drivers. I still have sound in audio and video files, however, I no longer hear usual windows sounds like plugging in or removing a device, getting notifications or when increasing or decreasing volume using the volume button in the taskbar. Some audio in games is not played either, like menu sounds in DOOM and Dishonored 2.

I uninstalled the drivers and all audio returned to normal with the default windows drivers. I tried to reinstall the latest drivers available on the ASUS support site (Realtek Audio Audio:GM:V6.0.1.7829_GM_StudioSound_SonicSuite_2.2 .25_SonicRadar_2.1.3301.0 ) because I use Sonic Studio quite a bit and the audio issues came back.

I also tried to get the latest drivers available from Realtek's site and from here Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version - Windows 10 Forums

If I use the windows default drivers, everything works fine, but obviously I cannot use any enhanced features like room correction with those.

If I separate front and rear panels in options and use headphones, everything works for the headphones, but same issues remain for the 5.1 surround system.

Answer:Maximus VII audio issues after latest Windows update

SO, I finally worked this all out myself and this would probably work for any ASUS motherboard owners having issues with Realtek audio drivers on Windows 10.

1. Remove the Realtek installation with Revo Uninstaller and remove all traces of it with the advanced option it gives you.
2. Use Driver Fusion. Go to the driver family section -> sound, select Realtek and choose the delete option at the bottom to remove all Realtek residual driver files.
3. Go here: Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version - Windows 10 Forums
4. Get the latest driver from the windows update catalog as mentioned in the above link. It should be in a .cab format. Make sure to download the driver according to your system architecture i.e. x86 or x64.
5. DO NOT install it using the .cab installation method. Instead just extract the cab file to a folder.
6. Go to Device Manager and select your audio device, which should now be "High Definition Audio" instead of "Realtek High Definition Audio"
7. Right click it and Select "update driver software."
8. Select the "Browse my computer for software" option and point it to the folder where you extract the .cab file earlier.
9. It will install the audio driver and all audio should now work perfectly.
10. Profit???

I'm wondering if any system builders are using the Phanteks Enthroo Primo series fan controller with the Maximus X Code motherboard.

I connected the Phanteks Fan Controller to CPU_OPT header but that header does not appear in BIOS. As such I cannot set to PMW. I would like to move connection to another header within reach of the connector, one of the CHA_Fanx headers.

That said the Phanteks instruction state that headers other than the CPU_Fan may not have true PWM, rather they control by voltage. If this is the case then you are not to connect the 12V power lead as this will cause fans to run at 100%.

My Air cooler is using the CPU_Fan header.

1) Does anyone know if the CHA_Fanx headers are true PWM or are they voltage regulated? If not are any of the other headers like AIO_Pump true PWM

Thanks

Ken

Hi guys, I have a huge problem!

I recently took my pc apart to clean it up a bit and well, when I put everything together again I can't get my audio and network drivers to install correctly.

I install my audio driver and I then reboot, but when it's restarted, the audio troubleshooter still tells me that I should install the drivers even though I just did?
Same with my network driver. I install my chipset driver and when I want to install my network driver afterwards it tells me that there are no chipset drivers present?

I've formated and installed windows twice and it still won't install the drivers correctly.

My specs:
Asus Maximus IV Extreme B3 Revision
8GB RAM
i7 2600k
nVidia ENGTX275 graphics card
1T HDD

I've downloaded new drivers from the Asus website and it still won't install, I cant go on the internet and my audio doesn't work untill the drivers are working . I have no idea what to do or what caused this. If anyone have any ideas please share them! Thank you.

What did you clean it with? Did you properly ground yourself before touching anything important?

Did you spray anything really hard with an upside-down can of air while you were cleaning it? As cool as that looks, I refrain from doing that on my pc..

Did you try booting from an Ubuntu live CD to see if it works at all? (worth a try, right)

If Ubuntu or something isn't able to use that hardware, I don't know what to tell you. Fortunately, lan and sound cards aren't too expensive...

Hi, I'm currently running a Windows 10 Pro PC with a 32-bit architecture. My processor allows for a x64 upgrade, but my system's information shows that my PC is x86 based. Can I still upgrade? I also have 6.00 gigabytes of ram, definitely enough for an upgrade.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:x64-based processor, but x86-based PC; can I upgrade to x64 bit?

No you cannot upgrade a 32-bit system to a 64-bit one. You can however, clean install a 64-bit system instead of the 32-bit one.

It could be because of some driver or other HW but if processor is 64bit (and it is), 64bit OS should run on it without problems.

I have a custom built PC based upon the ASUS MAXIMUS Formula with a EVGA GeForce 8800 GT video card. Everything works great. I wanted to add a second identical video card to support four monitors. When I add the second card in, the PC will no longer boot. The external LCD Poster just says CPU INIT. The fans, disk drives, etc. do not power up. If I take the second video card back out, it boots up fine. The power supply is a 650 watt ANTEC which the box indicates that it supports dual video cards. Any idea as to what I need to do to support two video cards not linked via SLI? TIA!

Hello. I've got my PC a few days ago, it was sent to me from Europe where I used it without any issues for ~2 years. So I built it up 3-4 days ago and it was working perfectly. I needed to move it, so I shut it down, unplugged it, moved it, plugged it back (to the same cord, same power cable), but it didn't start. To be more specific, it didn't get to the BIOS "phase". The motherboard lit up, fans were working, I heard HDD starting (no beep tho), but the motherboard was displaying Q Code 76, no post. After few restarts, I shut it down, unplugged and plugged back the EATX cable and it booted up without any issues! However, after several hours of working on the computer, I had to move it again (cuz of the recent "inspection"), so I shut it down, unplugged everything, plugged it back in (still the same cord&cable) and it happened again. But this time, reconnecting EATX cable didn't help. To be even more specific, the startup process looks like: Start -> Q Code 00 -> Q Code 14 & CPU_LED lights up (bright red) -> Q Code 76, no post. And that was it. After a few hours of trying and rebuilding it from a scratch, I somehow made it work again! I restarted it several times and it was working perfectly. So I was working on the computer for about 10 hours, then I went to lay down, I shut it down, but my curiosity got me and I tried starting it and boom, it happened again. The same issue. I tried: Reconnecting everything, CMOS clear... Read more
