ESET online scanner provides only one time free detection and cleaning?

Question: ESET online scanner provides only one time free detection and cleaning?

On their site it is written that only one on-demand scan will be performed.Does that mean if I run the online scanner on my pc for once and clean detected items,I will not be able to use it in future? There is also a 30day unlimited trial offer is given. Not sure if this is about their private wifi or online scanner.Seeking some advice and feeling terrified.

Preferred Solution: ESET online scanner provides only one time free detection and cleaning?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: ESET online scanner provides only one time free detection and cleaning?

What web page did you see that information? The main scanner page and FAQs do not say it can only be used one time.http://www.eset.com/int/home/products/online-scanner/http://www.eset.com/int/home/products/online-scanner/faq/After every scan, you have the option to uninstall the ESET Online Scanner with all its components or leave them for future scanning.

Anyone used Eset Online Scanner and, if so can they recommend it? If yes, would it conflict with my Bullguard suite and Spybot and Superantispyware?

Answer:Eset Online Scanner

Yes, it's a good scanner. It will tell you as it begins if it detects your existing anti-malware program/s, and if so you can disable them while it's running.I've also had good results from it even when I've left the other programs enabled.

Yes, I was just curious if using the Eset online scanner was safe? I think I may still have a virus on my computer. Even though I have run Malwarebytes and it found nothing. I ran my Avast free and it found a few things. I was going to try Eset online scanner to see if it could pick up something Malwarebytes and Avast could not. I trust Malwarebytes bigtime. If Malwarebytes does not find anything, then could I still be infected?

I am running eset online scanner right now and boy is it finding some stuff. Much of it MBAM has already removed.
I think I will have to run Rkill next.  All of this just to be shure I get a clean uninstall of MBAM and a reinstall of pro. lol

Better safe than sorry.  One thing of note for no more stuff than I have on this PC I shure have a lot of files.
2hrs 45 min and I am only 50 % lol

Answer:Eset online scanner

ESET Online Scanner is one of longest scan. Also, what's the point of running RKill after? RKill is supposed to be ran before you ran malware removal scans, in case a malicious process prevents you from launching them.

don't know if I need to post any of the other stuff that it says to do for help here, but I will if needed..
Thanks in advance for any help....

additional....noticed its been a few days since I did a full scan with AVG so I'm doing that now, also...since these got by AVG, should I get a different antivirus program and run it? Any suggestions of which one ....oh and I need a free one if I'm going to replace AVG

Answer:[SOLVED] Just ran Eset online scanner and

so far AVG has found 3..so its not looking so bad, had to turn on some more settings in AVG ...I'm also going to run MaleWareBytes just to be safe

edit>AVG says 30 threats so far, ouch!

I'm not going to post anything else until AVG and MWB are done, and have done their job. Then I'll do another check and post if anything shows up.

OK< so AVG found 30 items, took care of them, MWB running now...
maybe I just jumped the gun on this....kinda scared me that Eset found stuff. Maybe now that AVG is set to do deep scans I will be ok.

I've been trying to find out the source of the FlashPlayer.exe popup on my system, so I've tried to run the ESET online scanner. It found some non-critical things, but as ESET continued to scan, the ESET screen disappeared. The outline remains, but there's no text. I stopped it a couple of times before, but I just now let it run about six hours. It shows CPU usage in Task Manager, but it never refreshes the screen. I had to end it in Task Manager again. The system is Windows 7 on an i7 with 16 GB memory. Do you have any idea what the problem might be?

Answer:ESET Online Scanner Problem

Some online scanners will detect existing anti-virus software and refuse to cooperate. In some cases you may have to disable the real-time protection components of your existing anti-virus if you encounter a problem and try running the scan again.ESET Online Scanner FAQs #5If you have other antivirus, antispyware or anti-malware programs running on your computer, they may intercept the scan being performed by the ESET Online Scanner and hinder performance. You may wish to disable the real-time protection components of your other security software before running the ESET Online Scanner. Remember to turn them back on after you are finished.

I have the same problem.  For only once, last week, I downloaded some  torrents (astrological software), and I ended up with computer full of viruses, despite of licensed Kaspersky, and scanning files before running it. Now I'm following your instructions on this thread, and repeating the actions.

Then I tried to run ESET Online Scanner but it can't be downloaded.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Hi there,

First off I got an email from Twitter (which was legitimate) saying they reset my password as my account may have been compromised. Others also got this email http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=4716169 )

I reset my password by going to the Twitter site and not through the link in the email and I havent been on my twitter for a while, I saw no tweets that I didn't make and I have disabled all apps on my Twitter account so I am not so worried about that aspect and am hoping Twitter has been over precautions (which is always good!).

Now after this I ran MBAM and Avast 8 Free and both came up clean. I also like to run ESET online scanner (as I know you guys recommend it) however when I went to run it last night it said a proxy error and that it couldn't download the database. I rebooted and tried again to no avail. This got me thinking I could have malware and so here I am.

However I tried ESET again today after work and it is running! (as we speak) I would however be really grateful if someone could run through the process of checking my PC is clean as I always like to make sure it is secure (especially seen as though I don't know why Twitter thought my account was compromised!)

My PC Spec:

Windows 8 64Bit with Media Centre

OK, I'm infected...Isn't this the first step to recovery...just admitting it? lol

My PC starting running slow and I also noticed that I no longer could type URL address into the URL address bar without it being hijacked to some stupid site that redirected me...so i experience a takeover of some sort. I also noticed that my Hard drives malfunctioned and required a check-disk type of repair...so there was some kind of physical damage going on....very nasty. This PC is a i7 haswell but is running super slow so I know something is wrong...

I'm running Windows 8 PC and need to set it up properly to avoid viruses in the future.

I was hoping you guys could review my logs and suggest what programs to install to ensure a virus-free experience...

Thanks,
bob

I was running ESET Online scanner today when it told me that I had some Anti Virus software running which could hinder the performance and quality of the scan. I clicked on the list and it told me that Windows Defender was the only thing running. This confuses me for two reasons:

1. Windows Defender is turned off
2. I am running AVG Free and that did not show up?

Why on earth would it detect a program I'm not using and not detect a program I am using?
Thanks for your help.

Answer:ESET Online Scanner detected something that I dont have turned on?

Other anti-virus and anti-spyware progams running on your computer can interfere with the scan. Hi everyone, i think i might have a virus/spyware issue. I have Scotty, Spyware Search & Destroy, Malwarebytes and occasionally running ESET online scanner to check my computer if it is clean. A couple of days ago, I tried downloading a game(Theme hospital) and i got redirected to the official site. Apparently they had provided the download link, so i proceeded to download it and suspiciously Scotty informed me of a change within Program Files.Ever since, I have been getting random SSL connection errors when browsing on Chrome. I just noticed that I'm unable to update Windows Defender nor ESET online scanner. But i have however ran SS&D and MalwareBytes scans yesterday. It came back with numerous errors about a trojan being present.
Additionally, i play BF4 on occasions, and ever since i downloaded the file I have been unable to login to battlelog. Almost seems like something is screening my connections and selectively screening my usages.

I have since deleted the file that i had downloaded.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Hey Removal Gurus!

A few days ago my computer, which was "protected" by McAfee, started running poorly, sounded like it was launching, and all that jazz.

When McAfee didn't find anything, I removed it, and ran MBAM.  MBAM hit on two different things, in two different logs.  The first was for PUP.Optional.OpenCandy.  After quarentining that, I ran the scan again, and it hit upon PUP.Optional.Spigot.A.  I quarantined that as well. I then deleted both programs.

Since then, I have been running MBAM.  Still not convinced that everything was ok,  I ran the ESET Online Scanner.

ESET found Win32/Toolbar.Widgi.E in two places.  Specifically:

C:\Program Files (x86)\IObit\Smart Defrag 2\smartdefrag3-free.exe    Win32/Toolbar.Widgi.E
C:\Program Files (x86)\IObit\Smart Defrag 3\SDUpgrate.exe    Win32/Toolbar.Widgi.E

Obviously, I am not doing something right with my removal process.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

p.s.  I still have my MBAM logs.

p.p.s  Per the instructions (which i should have read earlier) attached please find the DDS information.

I was trying to run the F-Secure Online Scanner. It does not allow me to download the program. Right below where the message says" Run Online Scanner" I have a empty box with no information in it. I have run this program before but not on this computer. Does anyone know what may be wrong or what I am doing wrong? Thanks!!!!!

Answer:Free Online Scanner

What Browser are you using?

Most online scanners require IE. Probably at least vers. 7 if not 8.

Sounds too like a possible script error. Have never used F-Secure`s but most need active X which is native to IE.

I imaging if you suspect an infection that that could be blocking all\part of it too.

There are so many issues caused by viruses lately that I thought it would be helpful to create a thread just for posting a link to an online virus scanner. It's essential for those of you who don't have one on your computer, and if you do, it's nice to get a "second opinion" sometimes.

When things start acting strange on your computer, one of the things you should do is follow the link below, and see if you've been hit with a virus. If you find one, clean it out and see if that helps (someone here will help you with the cleaning if you're not sure how to go about it). Knowing whether you have a virus or not goes a long way toward resolving issues.
Here's the link:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
I can't take credit for finding this free service. It was suggested to me in one of the posts here, and I found it very helpful along with my installed AV program in finding and cleaning out the klez virus earlier this month.

A big THANK YOU to whoever posted the link in the first place, and another big chunk of gratitude to all those at TSG who take the time to listen, research and help all of us everyday. I joined in February, and am now addicted, coming here everyday to 'give back' by helping others, and picking up new tips and fixes from everyone else.

This place is the BEST!

Answer:Free Online Virus Scanner

This thread is a good idea CD.

Maybe, there should be a permanent post of say three URL's for this purpose on the Security Forum page.

I use Housecalls from time to time for reassurance. (I have AVG6 Free edition installed.)

Another on line site I have used is Symantec's:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/

Click on "Free Online Virus and Security Check" under Virus Definitions.

(However, it does give one pause to note that, as of today, the last revised date is April 8th. Does that mean that recent hot viruses such as KLEZ may not be included or up to date? Maybe, someone else knows the answer.)

Answer:Free F-Secure Online Scanner Gets to the Root of it

I have tried this on-demand scanners a few times, and F-Secure database is very good, so it will find malware.
I've notice that this new version, it did not ask me to restart my computer before starting the scan, and also the scan times have been reduced.
Overall this product looks very good, however I would have liked to see a standard on-demand scanner rather than an online scanner.

For anyone interested http://www.westcoastlabs.com/realTimeTesting/article/?articleID=1#item3

For many people, paying for an Internet Security Suite is either not an option or not a choice they?d like to make, depending on how you look at things. Luckily there are more than a few free software solutions on offer. For the testing of these we worked with West Coast Labs (WCL).

Thanks to West Coast Labs, PC & Tech Authority is providing its readers with real time access to the testing data from free security suites. This means you?ll be able to see the prevention rates as a percentage across the three vectors, as well as the average prevention rate for each service.

Answer:Free Antivirus: Real Time Anti-Malware Detection Rates

Thanks for the heads up

How come that panda, adware AV, COMODO AV and some others wheren't apart from this test? they are free. Four products is not enough

I really wonder why people make such a big deal of malware detection; what happens if it doesn't have detection for it through signature... In my eyes this means nothing and worthless test.

F-Secure rebuilds free Online Scanner tool : on net-security.org : http://www.net-security.org/secworld.php?id=14700

F-Secure?s free Online Scanner tool has been completely rebuilt to be faster, lighter and more powerful than before, and now even cleans up advanced rootkits, the most difficult-to-remove malware.

The tool, downsized to a slim 5MB, is easy to use with just a couple of clicks. It cleans without actually installing itself to the PC ? so consumers can run it and then forget about it. ..

Removes viruses + rootkits

Advanced rootkits boot up before the operating system itself boots up, making them extremely difficult to detect. Two of the biggest and fastest-growing botnets, TDL and ZeroAccess, use rootkit techniques to aid its spread. ZeroAccess racked up millions of infections globally in 2012, with up to 140,000 unique IPs in the US and Europe, according to F-Secure?s Threat Report H2 2012.

Rootkit removal can be complex and time consuming, often requiring the user to create a separate CD or flash drive and to spend time calling customer support. With F-Secure Online Scanner there?s no need for CDs, thanks to its new DeepClean, a Linux-based operating system that specializes in rootkit removals. When Online Scanner detects a rootkit, it boots the machine into DeepClean, which removes the malware. After the removal DeepClean boots the machine back into Windows. All this is done automatically without any user actions.

Just scanned w/ Kaspersky for the first time just for maintenance and it said it found 1 virus and 1 infected file. When I look at the report though, all I see are numerous skipped objects (mostly locked Symantec files) and one hp file that may or may not be marked as infected. The hp file is

hp\bin\killwind.exe

which is a legit HP utility that came w/ my HP computer. However, googling it turned up other folks who say McAffee sometimes falsely pegs this utility as a virus.

Could someone please look at my Kaspersky report and tell me if it looks like I actually have a virus that needs to be removed. Norton turns up nothing, and I'd prefer not to install the full Kaspersky program if I can avoid it, because I already own Norton and use Ad-Aware and Spyblaster too and that seems like enough.

I've attached the report.

Answer:confused by Kaspersky free online scanner results

There are no problems showing in your log. As you suspected the killwind.exe is just false indication. Many scanners detect this and a few other poorly named files from HP.

I guess that's your flash drive? Think your flash drive as a whole got infected...

Edit: Oh it's your hard drive.....So you plugged it into a system that was infected, and that's how it got all .exe files as malware.

Hello everyone,

Today I've noticed the following when scanning the latest malware pack. It removed 100 or so files and detected another 5, but couldn't remove them, so I removed those manually. Rescan gave me a clean result.
After that, I've uploaded the remaining files to VirusTotal and noticed that some of them hadn't been uploaded yet. This is very weird, as you scan ALL your files through VT when you upload your pack - especially if you're an expert like @Malware1.
The VT scans revealed 2 files to be clean (0/52) and the rest only got around 5-7 detections as well.

This leads to the question. Does ESET clear the malicious code of files it didn't even detect or how could such thing happen?

Answer:Interesting cleaning feature in ESET?

Even i noticed this, In some cases ESET removes malicious code but not the code.

Support Team,I was probably surfing some sites i should know better than to have done so but what's done is done. When I open up a browser page I quickly get a pop up stating that my sytem is infected and I need to download their software to clean my system. I know it is BS but in either case I can no longer open up Spybot, Ad-aware, or my Malaware cleaner. Secondly, I tried to restart in safe mode but I don't see the drop down box for the option (maybe bug file is preventing this? ...Dunno.) I am not good enough to interpret the Hijackthis logfile so I pasted it below. This is my first posting so I hope I am doing this right. I did read through the instructions and just hope I did this right, sorry if I messed up anywhere.I appreciate any help you can provide.Brent Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 7:28:10 AM, on 11/13/2008Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\CTsvcCDA.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exeC:\W... Answer:detection and cleaning software will not run

One more thing, I was able to redownload and run adaware and found these in the results although they could not be removed.

Therealsearch.com
greg-search.com
approvedlinks.com
vse-moe.biz
aifind.info
find4u.net
i-lookup.com
ie-search.com
itseasy.us

My original text is from my work pc, I cannot even get to Bleepingcomputer.com on my home (infected) pc. I keep getting redirected to bogus sites when I click on your link on the results page using google.
I downloaded firefox but on those result pages "URL cannot be found" comes up.

Question: Eset scanner

I went to download the Eset scanner and after installing the active X control I got the message that I don't have the Admin. rights. Can I just right click on the IE icon and run it as Admin. or do I need to do something else. Also how do you turn off the AVG Internet Security to run a different anti-virus and then turn it back on. Comments welcome.

Answer:Eset scanner

you could try as you suggested, opening IE using run as admin. To turn off avg you go into its control panel. Theres an option in there to turn it off (not using it atm so cant be more specific).

When I go to the Eset website and try to ren the free esetonline scanner it will not load. I am using windows XP. Let me explain, when I click the read user agreement and hit the start scan button I know I am supposed to get install activexx or some sort of message press ok then install. I am not sure with my spelling but I have used Eset online scanner before. After I press the start scan I get a different screen that stays blank for sometime then it goes bak to the original Eset website. If anyone knows what I am doing wrong or need more info I can supply the info. Thanks!!!!!

Answer:Problems with Eset Scanner

What browser are you using? If it is not Internet Explorer, you will be given the option to download and use the ESET Smart Installer. Vista/Windows 7 users need to run Internet Explorer as Administrator from the context menu.[/color][/i]You could also try doing another Online Virus Scan like F-Secure or Kaspersky.-- Some online scanners like Kaspersky and F-Secure requires free Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to be installed before scanning for malware.

I just noticed a problem with ESET Smart Security. The Smart Scan scans normally and quickly and by the time it gets to 99%, it scans 187003 files and takes 0:18:20. Then the scanner goes crazy! It is stuck at 99%, and by the time it finishes, it scanned 606785 files and takes 1:32:43! Why is this the case?

Answer:ESET Scanner Status Inaccurate?

Because it is scanning the files.

This computer has some important data on it and I would like to keep the system intact if possible. I just got it handed to me to take care of it but no malware removal tools helped sort it out. Eset hangs on desktop.ini files, even after deleting them it still hangs on other instances (Documents/Videos/desktop.ini or, for example, Documents/Music/desktop.ini and so forth). I was hoping you can help me put this computer back to shape without having to do clean install.

Today I installed the trial version of "HDD Regenerator 1.71"
When I tried to create a BootCD, it said "no cd writers detected" & ImageBurn (which I use almost daily) said the same; So I uninstalled the cd drive, rebooted, and it was seen by NewHardwareWizard; but both programs still seemed to not recognize the drive.

Looking in the Eset Smart Security Logs, I saw "Start up scan - Operating Memory - W32/Agent.ODG trojan" was detected, but could not be removed.

Spybot & Adaware have been of no help.

After a bit of research I tried running "Avenger! 2.0" without a script and it stated "Hidden driver "a0bpyz07" found!"
Next I ran the program with the fix option selected and it stated "Hidden driver "aesifosh" found! Could not open driver aesifosh for rootkit scan. Error:c0000034 (STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND) --> the object does not exist"

After rebooting twice, Nod still showed Agent.ODG in my operating memory

I'm currently in safe mode and scanning with "Norman Malware Cleaner"
which has so far found and "deleted file C:\vpbit.exe (Infected with W32/Renos.GLO)"

I have absolutely no clue how to proceed, please help!

May not have anything to do with malware.

Not malware. Sounds like you probably have or had Daemon Tools installed.
Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. I have ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.2.67.10, it came with my computer. I recently had an attack by one of those rogue scanners, I don't remember which one. I knew I didn't install it, intentionally, so I ran my antivirus software and thought that would be that. However, every time I run a scan I get the same trojan file as if ESET isn't cleaning it properly.

This is the file ESET finds everytime I run a scan.
Operating memory ? \GLOBAL??\0b043b2e\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB12330$\184826670\Desktop.ini - a variant of Win32/Sirefef.DN trojan - cleaned by deleting [1]

Since the attack by the rogue scanner: when I do google searches and click on weblinks I get sent to other sites, and sometimes new tabs will also generate. Unsure if it related but when I use gmail, sometimes my cursor will change location making typing an email frustrating.

Also, this is my first PC in a long time, used to game, and have since gone to Mac. In the past I had prefered to stay away from Symantec, Norton, etc. is there any other less invasive anti-virus software available?

Answer:Rogue scanner, ESET, sirefef trojan

ESET technology now integrated directly into Facebook... so ESET Social Media Scanner for Facebook has now been discontinued
ESET said:

Hello,

We just want to let you know about a change to ESET Social Media Scanner.

We?ve partnered with Facebook, which means that ESET?s award-winning technology is now integrated directly into the Facebook platform. Read more about it here »

As a result ? and after securing 73,441,194,563 links ? ESET Social Media Scanner is being discontinued as a stand-alone application for Facebook.

However, you can still enjoy full protection from ESET Social Media Scanner on Twitter, where you can use it to scan your timeline and lists automatically.

For even more scanning capability, why not try ESET Online Scanner to check and remove threats on your local drives? It?s effective, easy to use, and free.

Hi,

I am trying to fix my grandfather's computer that he says has been running slow and his Yahoo mail account has recently started getting flooded with spam emails which he believes is from a virus/malware on his computer. I ran an ESET Online scan and it found a few threats also. The logs are attached below. Thank you for your help.

HI, i was trying to install keskpersky internet security (KIS) 2010 on my brothers laptop, and everytime it gave the message that i had to unistall eset nod32 file scanner.
so i tried to remove on the add and remove programes tool, but it wasn't listed there.
so i searched mannually , and deleted it all i found related to eset.
i tried again to install kIS, and still gave me the same msg.

so, i looked on the net for support, i found some forums, were they told me to get into registry and erase it all i found about eset.
when i tried to access the registry editor, it gave me the msg that it was disabled by the admin. so i inserted a code that i found online on run, and enabled it. and i erased it all i found abou eset. i restarted the lap, and tried to install KIS, still gave me the same msg.
i tried to get into registry editor ,again it gave me the same answer, disabled by the admin!
i looked on the net, and i found this forum where they said that when we tried to unnistall a program manually or from the add and remove tooll, and we couldn't, we could try perfect unistaller, so i downloaded this sftware, and still did'nt list this eset nod 32.
so hum,ok, i made a mess with the registries so i installed ccleaner, and when i tried to install it, it opened the ccleaner window, and then closed itself, so i renamed the ccleaner installer to my name.exe, and when i tried to install it worked just fine.
thats when i realized, yeah, this is a virus, an... Read more

Answer:A virus disguised as ESET NOD32 file scanner

First of all, welcome and compliments on your researching abilities, even if final result has not been achieved.

You can try any of the following, not necessarily in the order I give them.

Try installing a free AV different to Kaspersy, in the hope that it might be more tolerant to the existence of the offender. Suitable choices are the free Avira Anitvir or Avast! If successful, scan for the virus in safe mode.

If unsuccessful, get a portable AV which does not require installation. One suggestion is the free, portable ClamWin, which I use myself as 2nd opinion and does not clash with the resident AV. Get it from here:
http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/clamwin_portable

There is, at least there was, also a free portable version of the genuine ESET NOD32 itself, which I search for myself in another thread on this page. If you discover it, please inform me in that thread.

Run an online scan at any of the many sites offering it. The following are for guidance, I haven't checked if they are still valid:
http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html/ie.html?url=scan8/ie.html
http://www.f-secure.com/en_EMEA/security/security-lab/tools-and-services/online-scanner/
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Burn a bootable rescue CD, which works in safe mode from your CD drive and clears malware, even when the PC cannot be started due to the malware. A good choice is again the Avira Rescue CD, available for free at the Avira site:

I have been using 360 Security for over a year now with no problems but I am now having to do lots of online banking and am not sure if I have enough protection with 360.
I have a trial version of ESET Smart Security Premium installed which has dedicated banking and payment protection.
I have noticed that other software such as Kaspersky, BitDefender,Comodo,F-Secure all have similar elements. Do these additional features actually give more protection ? An IT consultant friend says that these features are mainly 'cosmetic' . Is this so ?

I recently had problems with my laptop and elise025 helped me clean it up. (see http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/318336/redirecting-search-engine-results-and-random-pop-ups/ ) Now I'm concerned that my desktop is having problems. I am not having redirects from search engines, but the computer seems slower than it had been. After cleaning the laptop, I updated my Adobe Reader and Java to the latest versions and tried to run ESET online scan as I did for the laptop near the end of the process that elise025 helped me with. But, ESET will not run. I check the box to accept the terms of service and press the Start button. It appears to try to load something and I expect the ActiveX warning to pop up, but it never does. Either the window just closes or it reappears with the terms of service and Start button again. Searching the internet, I found some suggestion that this could be a virus/malware. Accordingly, I ran DDS and GMER to post the logs below. It took several tries to run GMER with the computer rebooting on occassion. I ended up running defogger to turn off CD Emulators (though I don't know that I have a CD Emulator), and I think that helped it get through the GMER process. It did take about 5 hours. Here's the DDS text log and the DDS attach log and GMER log are attached.Thank you!DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by HP_Administrator at 0:55:20.84 on Sat 05/29/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.... I clicked yes to the terms. I was then prompted to install an Active X control. I've tried to install the Active X several times over the last several hours. After I click install; I get one Eset scan start screen; after pressing Start; I get another start screen. After pressing start; the scan page opens and freezes with the Update error (108).I turned off the pop up blocker, and the phishing filter, and even turned off my Antivirus and firewall for a few minutes; with the same results from Eset. I think the Active X control isn't down loading for some reason.I'm not worried about spyware perse. My Panda I.S. 07 is about to expire and I'm thinking of switching to another A.V. program just wanted to sample Eset's scan tools. I've had Panda for 2 years. It has worked reasonably well. That is I haven't had any trouble with viruses. Still I'm not too happy with their online support. Thanks;Tmc240

Sorry, this may take 2 posts to post as a lot of screen shots on the general account and some on the admin account.

I had my win 7 upgraded to win 10 about 4 weeks ago with the computer manufacturer (Puget Systems).

I've been having problems with magnifier working and error messages (even did a system restore to the earliest point). Then today problems with FF and Chrome. When vids wouldn't run in FF I tried to open in chrome and got a BSOD (see screen shots - probably in a second posting on this as on the other account). I called the number and got weird advice from the MS people. Almost seemed like a scam so I screen shot everything.

They said that windows defender wasn't any good and to install something else and they said not comodo when I bought that up.

They said I needed my computer company to do a system tuneup and one time resolution - whatever that means. I think system tuneup is stuff I routinely do like disk defragmenter (which I do every other day), cleaning files (use CCleaner (used to use old timers TFC but that doesn't run on win10) - I don't use the registry stuff, just cleaning up files), backing up files - I may be wrong about all this.

I run ESET online scanner after downloading any new program or problems or if nothing once/month to be sure.

Anyway, ESET online also found something (but I think maybe download for the last CCleaner update and I went in and deleted that).

So, I don't know what is wrong with my computer but if it'... Read more

I ran the ESET Scanner on my laptop a couple times, but both times it crashed & I couldn't get rid of the virus. I know it found 2 files infected with "a variant of Win32/Injector.Autoit.SP trojan". Is there another scan I can run instead? Thanks!

Answer:ESET Scanner found trojan on laptop, but scan crashes

Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.
rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/
* Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
* A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
* If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
* Do not reboot until instructed.
* If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.
If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.
When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.
Post it in your next reply.
NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

Hello!

I noticed after a couple of USB transfers that my computer was suddenly incredible slow. Sometimes it would take a full minute to register a simple click (whether it be offline or online). Immediately, I jumped to the conclusion that I had been infected by my friends' UBS sticks.

I ran ESET scanner on it, and it found a whopping 10 threats (worms of various sorts, and things in the win32 files, sorry, I don't know much about computers and don't remember the specifics.)

I also ran Malwarebytes, SUPERAntispyware, and AdwCleaner, and quarantined/deleted a bunch of malware.

My computer is still a lot slower than it was before the USB transfers though, and I can't figure out if I'm still infected.
Could anyone help me figure this out?

Thank you!

Amy

Answer:ESET scanner found and deleted threats - computer still infected?

Hello,

Can you post the various logs from the programmes you've run please?
ESET Online Scan logs can be found at the following locations (depending on your system's bit-type):
32-bit machines: C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner
64-bit machines: C:\Program Files (x86)\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner

MBAM (2.x) logs can be obtained by:
Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and click the History tab.
Click Application Logs and double-click the Scan Log.
Click Copy to Clipboard and paste the log in your next reply.

I had a small trip through Eset's settings and I enabled "Detection of potentially unsafe applications" which led to the detection of some installers like Auslogics ones and some websites like (www.uniblue.com). Do you recommend keeping this option enabled? and what do you think ?

Answer:Have you enabled "Detection of unsafe applications" in Eset?

That's because some programs can show a pattern of installation without user permission or notice on a system or be deemed to be separate and different from the application installed.
BTW I recommend keeping it enabled.

Hello my friends,

I don't say it is fake but I wanna make you think We have a few free products that use online detection / cloud detection.

Avira Free has the new Cloud Protection, I didn't see it once and I used Avira for a long time (did not notice in Youtube reviews).

AVG has ID Protect that uses "cloud protection", you can see it from time to time as "IDP/malware_name" so we know it works.

Comodo has the option (if you check it) during the install to send unknown files to analysis, you can also see in detection with ".malware" (dot and malware name). Lately I didn't notice, so ... I really don't know what to say.

Panda Cloud it detects as "Suspicious File" on "right click" it is not the best but if you execute it is good so it works

And the list goes on ...

Now my question ... how is with this Cloud Protection, Cloud Detection ? Also what is with this detection (ZBot, Rogue, WinLock, Downloader) ?

I've run MSSE full scan and Malwarbytes Threat scan and both don't find anything. However, last night on a routine on-line scan with ESET (I do about monthly just to be sure), it found a threat (see attachments).

No visible toolbar on FF, IE or Chrome. Nothing in add/remove programs.

Until the BSD on gmer, nothing unusual (except a few weeks ago updating windows crashed my computer without the BSD - just went black and later came back on).

I have a windows disk; however, this is a custom build by Puget Systems and getting into bios and other things are very unusual and not sure how to boot to disk to run if need fix the OS.

Also, I don't have access to another computer, so if something may make the computer unable to access the internet or not boot up - I can't get back to you until I can get to a library. So please let me know ahead of time and what I can do to fix it.

I started to run the required things to post and every time I run gmer I get a BSD.

Seems like I'm having problems with the attachments, too.

That ESET find is simply the installer for CCleaner. It gets flagged due to Google toolbar bundling.

It is not malicious. As long as you didn't opt in to install the toolbar, there's nothing to worry about.

You can safely delete the installer file. Navigate to, right-click and delete this file:

C:\Users\93\Downloads\ccsetup414.exe

It appears you didn't attach the second dds log, Attach.txt, to your initial post. Instead, you attached the actual dds.scr program.

Press the Windows "logo" key and "R" key then copy/paste the following into the Run box and click OK:

%temp%\attach.txt

A text file should open. Save it to your desktop then attach that file to your next reply.

It isn't uncommon for some machines to BSOD on running gmer. Some machines just don't like gmer. Did you disable MSE before running gmer?

I think that my computer might have a virus. Yesterday, all-of-a-sudden it began running slower in loading programs and accessing the Internet. (This also included Microsoft's Outlook.) I ran my anti-virus program ESET NOD32 which found no viruses. I also ran Malwarebytes, Super Antispyware, Spybot S&D which also found nothing. (I also have Spyware Blaster on my computer.) I am wondering if a virus (or other malware) is on my computer causing it to be very slow. I read a little online and saw that there might be good online virus detection and removal program. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any and all suggestions and comments.

Answer:Good Online Virus Detection and Removal Progarm

Hi referee07,
If you have run ESET and Malwarebytes and both showed up clean, the prospect that you actually have a virus is extremely low.
You may however, be experiencing a number of other things that could be the cause.
If you want extra help to find out, please proceed:

Download and Run the Correct Farbar Scan Tool for your System

64-bit: Download FRST64 and save to your Desktop.
or
32-bit: Download FRST and save to your Desktop.

Double click Frst.exe or Frst64.exe to launch it.
Frst will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press the Scan button.
When finished scanning, 2 logs will open on your Desktop, FRST.txt and Addition.txt
Please post them in your next reply.

If you lose track of them, they will be saved in the same location as FRST
Feel free to use separate replies if it's more convenient.

So, if you wish to continue, we will be looking for the Sysinfo report, and the two logs from FRST.

Hey. I was wondering if Avast! 5.0 Free Edition and ESET Smart Security 4 would conflict with each other or not. I don't know since when I tried using AVG and Avast!, I couldn't connect to the internet. Please help, thanks.

Answer:Should I use ESET S.S. 4 and Avast! Free 5?

I can only think that you would see conflict between the two programs as they are both Anti-virus. I would say try it and see but make sure you are testing in a sandbox, not leaving your test machine vulnerable.
My 2-cents (not-worth much )
