Looking for an application that searches in a file and emails based on finding

Question: Looking for an application that searches in a file and emails based on finding

HI There,
I'm looking for a simple windows service that I can schedule to run that will do the following:
1.  Search a .log file for a given phrase - "fail" for example.
2.  If this is found, send an email and alert (screen popup) to the administrators.
I may need to resort to a batch file do this, but I hope was hoping something already existed and I could have this up and running very quickly.
Please let me know if you know of anything that fits the bill.

Preferred Solution: Looking for an application that searches in a file and emails based on finding

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Looking for an application that searches in a file and emails based on finding

This is a simple batch file if you have an e-mailer that lets you send from the command line.  I haven't tried this in ages on Windows, so I don't know which one(s) might be available.
You should take a look at the post, How to create a command-line toolkit for Windows, on these very forums, paying special attention to the "grep" command that's part of UnixUtils.  Grep allows you to do the kind of search for text content you're seeking with ease.  You can then either query the status code returned after the command or redirect the output of the command to a file, and check that its size is not 0 bytes, to determine whether it found what you're looking for.  A simple 'if' construction afterward to trigger the e-mail to be sent and you're done.
You may prefer to go with installing Cygwin rather than the UnixUtils if you want something more current and want to have a more extensive set of Unix commands available to you under Windows.

Hello, Im new here, and Ive heard from alot of different places that the JATON 3DForce Video-248PCI-DVI Geforce FX5700LE 128MB is the best PCI card. Could you people people give me replies with a better one or is this the best one, and will this card run Battlefield 2. My comp specs are: Dell Dimension 3000, 3.0ghz processor, 768mb of ram, and a intel card.

Answer:Need help finding the best PCI based card

If the jaton 5700le has a 128bit memory interface it will peform well for being pci, if it's 64 bit look elsewhere. There used to be fx5600 cards available in pci(, but they don't seem to ship them even if you order them. The 5600 is better than any 5700le at stock speeds.
Another option would be the bfg 5500oc pci card. It's an overclocked(read faster) 5500(which is a overclocked 5200)).
I think the order would be 5600>5700le 128bit>5500OC>5700le 64bit>5200.
That's a general guess though.

I'm fixing a friends computer for them... Apparently a friend of this friend dropped the laptop and now the hard drive is not working. I believe they said that it made noise now, and Best Buy said that it needed a new hd. I ran the built in diagnostics and it said replace hard drive before the test even reached 1%. I'm assuming that it's actually damaged and nothing like a check disk will be able to fix this problem.

ANYWAY, if I get a new hard drive I'll need to install the OS and drivers. To install the OS I'll need to find a disk (friend doesn't recall ever getting one, so I'm assuming it was a case in which you were supposed to make your own if you wanted one), and to find a disk I need to know what version of Windows the key is for. The key on the sticker is still legible but the version info is worn off. I tried to find a way to search based on s/n on HP's website to see if it listed the os in the specs but found none. So I guess I'm wondering how I find out what version of Windows this key is for. Any ideas?

Answer:Finding windows version based on product key, or laptop s/n

ok, so are trying to find out what version of windows he has?

to find out what version go to Start, right click my computer, go to properties.

or for more detail download "Belarc Advisor" it will tell you what version, updates and what the key is.

Hope this helps Sdawg

Can somebody explain to me what a LAN Based Application is? I've tried to google it but cannot find nothing. I would imagine its an application that only operates within a LAN, so i.e an office, so it wont be able to communicate to another office?

Answer:LAN Based Application

It is an application that runs only on a LAN (Local Area Network) without internet access.

The LAN could be small, 3 - 4 clients; or large with over 500 clients in multiple buildings.
I have worked in both situations and used propriatary applications that ran on the LAN, but were not designed to be accessed from the internet.

Video Conferencing, Remote Access Control, Gaming Servers, all started as LAN applications.

This is the best info I could find and it isn't much.

How do I retreive web based emails that have been deleted? Are there copies on my computer?

Thank you.

Answer:Retrieve Web Based Emails

I'm not 100% sure, but as far as I know, any web-based e-mail is only ever stored on your computer if you use an e-mail client (ie MS Outlook). If you've deleted the e-mail message, and then after emptied the online "Trash" or "Deleted Items" folder, then there wouldn't be any way of recovering the message.

I may be wrong, anyone feel free to correct me if I am, however that is the extent of my knowledge on the matter. :)

I have a neat idea that I would like to try out. Caution this is going to get nerdy not just geeky. I play D&D and my group uses a program that has our characters on it. It's a very old program made for Win 95 but I have made it work in everything from Linux to Vista.

I want to find a way to put the program online so my group can all edit their characters instead of doing it last minute before we play. I have a web server and hosting so thats no issue. My first thought is to use a VPN or terminal services but is there a way to just host the application by it's self? What I would like is something as non technical as having a desktop icon they can just click and it opens the program as if it's local.

Answer:make an application web based

Sure, just rewrite it in some language your web server can run and have it save all its data in an appropriate database accessible to the web server.

If you're talking about just putting the .exe on your website, it doesn't really work that way. By default, Windows won't run programs from the internet, and the web server won't allow you to write data to it. Depending on how the app works, you may be able to give each person a copy and configure it to save its data remotely in a central location. It might be possible to do something like Sysinternals Live, but I doubt you'd be able to do with just regular hosted webspace. That also doesn't take into account the saving/sharing of data, just the remote access to the .exe.

I posted in this forum as I feel this is security related. Mods move if need be.

I'm looking for a web based (preferably PHP) change log program. It should do the following:

1. Be simple!
2. Allow people to enter descriptions of basic system changes
3. Changes should have categories by systems and can be filtered as such.
4. Time stamp the actions and have a "master display" where all changes can be viewed
5. LDAP authentication would be nice.

Does such a thing exist? My goggling has failed due to "change log" being such a popular term.

A user has resized a window within a hosted web application to the point where it is exactly OK/too small, meaning it flickers back and forth between having scroll bars and not. While it is in this state, it essentially freezes out any other [COLOR=green !important][COLOR=green !important]commands[/COLOR][/COLOR] in the window or ability to resize it. Are there any ways to interupt this, delete application window size preferences or other ideas? I know this is data that is stored locally as I can execute the same functions on another PC sucessfully. This is viewing of a web hosted PC based medical application by a standard PC running Windows 7, IE9. Is there a way to delete user preferences for the application so it will default to orginal window sizing?

Answer:Re-Sizing of Web Based Application Windows

As a workaround, you could try a free program I use myself to automatically resize your different applications. I know how annoying this can be, in my case, especially for Internet Explorer.

For the pharmacy I have made an application to support a drug preparation. This application is used in public pharmacies as well as in hospitals and industry.
This is a web-based application. So the installation has been done on the server with a configuration within IIS.
The clients start the application in InternetExplorer.
Why InternetExplorer? Because the client's preparation protocols, raw materials need to be weighed and labels must be printed. Hereby I use self-programmed ActiveX controls. And other browsers do not support ActiveX controls.
The web-based application is generally found to be good.
As Edge is increasingly "pushing", InternetExplorer seems to be the cornerstone, as well as the application described above.
My questions are now:
- How long are web-based applications still supported?
- Will Edge support ActiveX controls in the future?
- Is there an alternative?
I would appreciate if there were sound answers to the above questions.

I have a web based application and want it to port it on Windows Vista . What are the procedures I must follow to check for its compliance on safe deployment on Vista?

Answer:Web Based Application Compliance Testing

Let's see. I have no clue, but if I think about it, it must be:
Does your web server software work properly in Vista?
Which flavor of Vista do you plan on using?
Do you have the hardware to support it?
Have you checked into any of the documentation?
If you have checked into the documentation, promptly ignore it, set up your own test box, and see how things shake out. If what you find out on your own correlates with the documentation, then you might start to have some confidence.

That's where I would start if it were me. Essentially, a web service comes down to the web-server software, some sort of a middle tier, and I would imagine some sort of database. Are they compatible with Vista?

Hello All

Does anyone know whether there are any free web based email accounts that allow you to use Outlook to send and receive emails?

I am based in the UK and I use Virgin as my broadband provider. However, as I do not plan to stay with them for that long and because email addresses are not portable, I would ideally like to use a web based email - i.e a long term email address that I will not have to change.

I know that there are plenty of web based emails that do let you use Outlook, but they seem to all charge for this functionality. For example, Hotmail charge 15 (Hotmail used to be free but they have changed their policy to combat SPAM/make money) and Yahoo charge 12.

I found this: which seems to work, although as its free it has its own problems - for example it seems to have "buffer overflow vulnerabilities" (which sounds like something best avoided):

Any thoughts would be very welcome.

I understand that Gmail allows you to use Outlook for free, but that as its currently a beta version, you cannot sign up. Could anyone invite me to have a Gmail account if they have a spare invite?

Many thanks

Answer:Any free web-based emails that work with Outlook?

Oops, I just read that Gmail invites cannot be sent to hotmail addresses (apparently Microsoft trying to be clever).

So if anyone does have a spare invite, could you please send it to: [deleted email address]

Also, anyone with information on other free web emails that work with Outlook, then I would still love to hear from you.

Many thanks

Got one now - thanks!

Hello All,

This is my first time here, and I would be real grateful if someone could solve my problem.
I have a problem related to the following forum, but it goes a step further:

Since I am new to programming, and have never done VBA, can you please guide or provide the Excel VBA code for my requirement. I could not find a relevant forum to add comment to, since all the related ones I visited are closed, so I had to create a new one.
Actually, it is for planning purposes at my end. I need to send emails based on holidays in different offices in different regions to a specific email addresses, so, people in all the offices can plan better.

I have attached a file named "Sync", having three different sheets, one having India Holidays and the other two having our US & UK office holidays.
For each of the holiday, in each of the three regions, I want to send an email 7 days prior (to the upcoming holiday) to an email address, say, [email protected]. This will help me plan the week and consider which regions will be working, and accordingly assign work.

Help will be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks & Warm Regards

After opening the file, I would like the macro to look at all the dates in the sheet and send an email (.Display is preferred) each time a date gets within 1 year, 6 months (180 days) and 90 days of the current date.

The headers in the columns are:
A-First Name
B-Last Name
C-email address

D, E, F, G, H, I, J-Certification 1, 2 ,3 etc. (All contain various expiration dates)

K-1 Year email sent. I've gathered from reading that another column indicating if an email was sent is a good idea and may be needed to trigger the other events.

This new GIF based email attack was spammed extensively over the weekend. While GIF files are safe, the HTML body of these email messages contain a trojan horse that could be launched on systems that are not up to date on Windows security patches (from last year MS03-032 and MS03-040). Suspicious GIF files being mailed? are an increasing amount of suspicious gif attachments to email reported to us. The filenames 1.gif and 2.gif seem to be popular, but it looks like the exploit isn't in the gifs, but rather in the body of the message that tries to download from a -currently down- website. The reports so far indicate outlook warns about ActiveX permissions, but that might not be the case in all instances. Our best preventive advise would be to disable preview panes in outlook, keep anti-virus software up to date at all times, and perhaps consider to return email to plain text as much as possible both when sending and receiving messages. McAfee releases update for 1.gif trojan releases update for 1.gif trojan, This trojan takes advantage of the exploits covered in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-032 or Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-040. McAfee notes that if these patches are applied, you are immune from this virus. McAfee will still and identify the trojan with the latest updates applied. I'm currently trying to figure out how to send emails to specific people based off data entered into an excel spreadsheet. Some basic information is that I'm on a mac, use excel 2004, and I'm using the basic mac mail program (have a .comcast and .edu email account). Hopefully what I'm trying to achieve is pretty simple. I would like to do the following:
Daily send an automatic email reminder every morning to specific people.
This email needs to send recipient x an email that reminds them to do chore y on the current day z.
So when the current day z is today I want the email sent out in the morning.
I would like this to be done automatically but if that is really complicated some type of macro would be awesome.

So basically the excel sheet is going to have column 1 with the due-date, column 2 with chores, column 3 with names, column 4 with emails.

I know basic computer knowledge.

I would really appreciate help on this! Thanks in advance!

Answer:Microsoft Excel - Sending emails based off data

Try this code:
Sub xlDialogSendMailWithMessage()

'Note: This sends the ActiveWorkBook as an attachment
'using the default email program. If the workbook to be
'sent is not the active workbook, then insert code to
'open and activate it before running this...
If MsgBox("Send message now?", vbYesNo, "") = vbNo Then Exit Sub
Dim N As Long

With Application

'scroll down to the message field
For N = 1 To 5
.SendKeys "{TAB}", Wait:=True

'insert text (replace 'Email text here...' with your message)
.SendKeys "Email text here...", Wait:=True

'replace [email protected]; [email protected]; with your recipients
'replace 'Insert subject here...' with your subject
.Dialogs(xlDialogSendMail).Show _
"[email protected]; [email protected];", _
"Insert subject here..."
End With
End Sub

You will have to look at the code and do some coding.

Theoretically speaking, if different types of malware files where to penetrate past Kapsersky's protection and get placed into "Low Restricted", how much damage is possible under default settings?

Answer:Kaspersky Policy Based Application Control

Theoretically speaking, damage same as trusted group. Low restricted is basically trusted group in default settings (Automatic mode). Application control is for interactive mode, in which the prompts gets issued, then Low restricted is useful as much as the user knows.

Could anyone tell me which of the many languages I should/could use to develop a browser based application meant to support database functions (store/retreival to local disk of user inputs) and that could read and send data off the host PC serial port. I'm not looking for client/server stuff, just a plain browser based application running on a local machine for accessing its local serial port and sending/storing data to or from it. I could do it using WinAPI or MFC but I would prefer to have the familiar web based application instead.

I'm not familiar with ASP.NET, PHP, XML, SQL etc... so I wonder if any of them could dot the job ??

Answer:Change Icons based on extension only, not the associated application.

The following Microsoft Dev Centre page explains how this can be done via the Registry. (Note: I have not tested this myself in Windows 10)

Is there any free software online that is able to retrieve emails permanently deleted from an AOL account about 3 weeks ago? The email was also printed out that day in case if that helps in locating the lost email in some random sector of the hard drive.

Answer:Finding deleted emails

If the email was stored on the AOL server, and not downloaded in Outlook or Outlook express, you have zero chance of retrival, as it is stored on a server that you have no control over and would certainly be already written over.

If it did create a temporary spool file in memory while printing out, that will have been immediately deleted when the print operation finished.

If you actually downloaded it in Outlook or similar, then deleted it there is every liklihood it is in your email delected folder. But that is speculation as we don't know how it was accessed.

There is another side to the problem. When using BT Mail in conjunction with Chrome , on receipt of an email there is an option to place the email in a folder but he dialog box wont allow me to easily use the folders at the lower enf of the box as a result the email disappears into an unknown folder which is another I would like to "Find" an email.

I recently did a backup using Windows Backup to an external drive. I did a fresh Windows 7 install. I realized I was using Outlook (I'm not sure which version) and did not make a separate backup of my e-mail and e-mail settings assuming they would be in my Windows backup file. I have now restored, but of course I don't have Outlook now as it's no longer available. I'm trying to find all my Outlook files in the restored data files so I can perhaps export them somewhere. I can't seem to find them. Suggestions are welcome.

I manage a small database of paid memberships for a non profit. We are keeping up with membership dues and renewal dates in an excel spreadsheet. I would like to automatically generate an email through outlook 30 days before the renewal date, again 14 days before the renewal data (if they haven't renewed), again 5 days before renewal date (if they haven't renewed), and again 5 days after it has expired. Furthermore, I would like to customize the message of the emails if possible, including my signature that is saved in outlook.

In my limited knowledge of VBA/Macros, I would assume that I will need a column that is checked if a membership has been renewed, so that the macro will know whether to generate an email. Also, I am assuming that this would be easier if I had multiple macros instead of just one.

I am attaching a excel sheet that has the columns we will be using with dummy data.

Thank you.

Hi All,

Im trying to install AT&T application which is a profile based application. Means it installs in the user profile directly instead of other location.

My Problem is user dont have the admin access, either i need to use my ID or administrator ID. Which installs application into Appdata\Local folder which wont be accessible by other users.
How to i enable the application for other users as well without providing admin access

Answer:Installing profile based application in other users folder

What ATT app is this? If it's for accessing the internet then that doesn't require any installed program, just plug in the wire or access wireless signal via icon in SYstem Tray. Any installed program beyond this for this purpose is bloatware.

But once we know what the program is for exactly we can help you better.

I have a spreadsheet that counts the number of visits a patient has left. (Column F)

My end goal is to be able to click a macro button, and have excel send an email (outlook) to EACH therapist, with a list of their patients who have 3 or less visits remaining. As stated in previous similar threads, if the therapist has more than one patient with 3 or less visits, I would like for all of these patients to be listed in one email, along with the number of visits remaining for each.

On Worksheet 1:
Row 1 is a header
Column A is the Patient's name and
Column B is the Therapist they are assigned to.
Column F contains the number of visits remaining.
On Worksheet 2, I would like to list each Therapist in Column A and their respective email in Column B.
(If necessary, I could list the email on worksheet 1 next to each patient, but I'd rather not retype the email every time I enter a new patient.)

LOGIC PATH - - - I would like to look at Column F to determine if the value is equal to or less than 3, then filter the results of that "if-then" based on the Therapists name in Column B, then send an email (using the email table in Worksheet 2) to the therapists containing the results of the filter. This would need to be done for each therapist, but hopefully with one button/click/command/etc.

Okay I have a long list of must haves and this is just crazy I can't seem to find any application that will work for what I need.

I will list all the items that WON'T work.

Windows 8 family security - does not do half the features I want it to.
LUPC - - Interface is almost what I am looking for but does not do enough monitoring. Also does not seem to support Windows 8. Also does not monitor internet usage.
Verity - - Works GREAT but you can't set a weekly limit on a user and you can't set the limits on specific applications. its either allow or block the application and then allow or block for block of time for that specific day.

What I need.
1) Monitor all sites gone to and how much time was spent there.
2) Screenshots would be nice but not 100% needed - I ask because I can't capture the log of the chat in the online game my son uses.
3) Needs to be able to set a weekly allotment of time (say 10 hours) for a week per user.
4) After the allotment of time is expired you need to be able to specify if you want specific applications to stop being accessible OR if you want to make the user not able to even log on.
5) Need to be able to daily set the time the user can start to use the computer and stop using the computer. - This one isn't 100% needed as this is on a domained PC but it would be nice to have.
6) Needs to be able to be applied to... Read more

Dear Networking Gurus,
Please Help Me! I need to find the easiest and most informative method for measuring bandwidth usage for a particular network device.
I want a solution, prefferably free to low cost, that will show me statistics that would allow me to see unexpected network traffic for debugging purposes.

Disclaimer and Conditions
I have limited networking experience and knowledge.
Installing software on the device in not an option.
Its gateway is limited linksys router that cannot be upgraded with third part firmware.

I have attempted to use wireshark, but its bandwidth usage statistics are limited to how many bytes per second and does not give me useful information for long term usage over 24hr and beyond. It crashes after a day of use on the workstations that are available to me.
Is there some hidden setting that processes capture and displays the usage information in a simple layout?
Is there some other application that can read wireshark captures and present usage information in a more meaningul way? preferably windows, but I can usually manage linux.

I hooked one of my workstations up to a hub and am currently trying out NTOP, running off a Securix-NSM live cd, hoping to discover useful network trends.
Does anyone know how accurate Ntop is when it comes to bandwidth usage?
Are there any big limitations to Ntop?
Is there a way to remove the default p2p filters and monitor specific ports of my choosing?

Any help is much appreciated

I have a network directory that stores photos of individuals in jpg format. There may be only 2 pics of each person, or there may be 7 pics.
Each persons pics are stored in a randomly named directory / subdirectory. dont have any control over the original program, it's just the way it was written, does not seem to follow any logical pattern, possibly a HEX naming structure based off the date & time, who knows (I will include a sample directory tree at the end of the post).
Included within each of these created directories, along with the pictures, is a standard text file (filename "B.TXT") which includes the date the picture was taken, the persons name, and other information.
Each time a person comes in and their picture is taken, the program: (i) creates the random directory (ii) stores the pics (iii) creates the "B.TXT" file with the persons information (iv) generates several other program specific files that I have no need for.
The program names each of the pictures with the exact same names, which is why they are stored in different directories, so they will not overwrite. The retention period on each individuals directory, pics and files is approximately 40 days.

Hello, I was wondering if there was anyone who could please help in writing a batch file. What I am trying to achieve is fairly simple but I'm having trouble getting all the code together to make it work. What I am trying to do is simply copy a file off a network share and place it into a specific location on quite a number of PCs (around 200-300). I am looking for a Windows application that would enable me to quickly extract bulk emails from an IMAP server. I trying to help a friend who has 15000+ emails in two separate folders on her IMAP server. She uses Outlook, which is running incredibly slow due to the quantity of emails on the IMAP server. Whenever I try to archive the emails, Outlook freezes, so I'm pretty much looking for an application designed to just fetch and delete emails from an IMAP server.

Anyhow have any suggestions? Feel free to leave questions if my problem is not clear.

- Clear

Answer:Download IMAP Emails Fast Application?

Use mulberry if you want super fast handling and access of IMAP accounts with lots of messages. Some servers will have a fit about mulberry because it opens a zillion connections to the server though, so watch out. You can select messages and save them, but its save feature sucks when trying to save multiple files at once. (Note that mulberry's UI sucks)

Use Sylpheed if you want to backup a folder to an .mbs file. The option is under file -> export to mbox file. It will produce a really good backup. As for speed, with a 7Mbps connection, it will take around 20 minutes per 8000 messages consisting of 25.5MB to fetch the messages and generate the .mbs file. But, it might be faster or slower depending on your system too.

There's Symphony Imap backup, which you can use to backup a complete account. It's not exactly fast, but it handles lots of messages no problem.

If all you want to do is delete some messages, use mulberry. If you want to backup, use Sylpheed.

Thunderbird won't be as fast as mulberry, but it should work fine for accessing lots of messages.

Opera works really good (although not super fast in fetching) with lots of messages. 100000 for example. I usually use Opera with around 20000 messages.

Hi, i've recently been doing work with an internet cafe and we need a solution for re-imaging. I have an image created with ghost but I have no software to use to distribute it and the client PC's only have CD-R/RW and the image is 4.3GB.

I tried to use Ghost recovery disk to map the network drive where I have the image but the recovery disk didn't couldn't detect my network card (I'm guessing it didn't support the specific NIC of the client PC's)
I need a software solution that will let me re-image any computer from a centralized location (server) over the network. We have about 40-50 client PC's. So far we have been doing manual installs (The entire server crashed and took all the old software with it so we're starting from scratch)

If anyone could help, we could open this business a lot sooner than expected with software that can do this!

I'm having some problems finding a folder which I'm 99% sure is on my computer. The folder is called "workspace" (without the quotes of course) and I created it months ago on either my C: drive or my F: drive; it is *much* more likely that it is on the C: drive but I'm not positive.

When I went into File Explorer, navigated to the F: drive, chose the Search tab and entered workspace in the search box at the top right, it came back fairly quickly and said nothing with that name was found. That was great and matched what I expected so I assumed it was correct. When I did the same in the C: drive, it brought back a number of files and folders that had "workspace" in the name - and even some that had an abbreviation like 'wkspace', which baffles me somewhat - but the thing that really baffles me is that it just keeps searching and searching and searching. It's been going over an hour now and still keeps turning up new hits (none of which are the one I want yet). The progress bar is beyond the downward facing arrow and has half-filled the "X" that is to the right of the downward facing arrow.

I've seen this behaviour time and time again in the search facility in Windows, probably going back to XP: it never really ever gets to the end of the search if it's on the C: drive. Can someone explain this to me? I need the search to look everywhere on the C: drive. It's a big plus if it returns relatively promptly. Instead, it keeps churning and churning w... Read more

Hi @echo off for /f "tokens=* delims= " %%a in ('dir /b/s D:\sba81\siebsrvr\log\*.log') do (find "Error " < %%a >> Error.txt) I need to enhance this bach file such that "It should ignore the keywords i mention in the loop and output only the lines which are not containing the mentioned keywords in the loop"Explanation :I need to specify some 30 keywords in the loop to ignore if the batch file finds those words while searching files. Because those are ignorable errors. So it should ignore those words containing lines and it should copy all the lines which doesn't contain those keywords to the output file. Please read clearly above requirement once again and give me enhanced solution for the batch file i have given on top.thanks a lot in advance

Answer:Batch file which searches for the keywords

if exist error.txt del error.txtfor /f "tokens=* delims= " %%a in ('dir /b/s D:\sba81\siebsrvr\log\*.log') do findstr /v "keyword1 keyword2 etc" "%%a">>error.txt

I need to log into event viewer each search a user does within File Explorer. I believe this should come under Connected-Search. I have the event log enabled but I'm not seeing any data populating it despite doing searches.

We haven't done any additional configuration. Is there something that we need to configure to get this working?

Hello, I have been dealing with a particularly irritating and puzzling search error. While almost all of my files are searchable by content, all of the ones within a certain folder only show up by name. I have rebuilt the index multiple times, set the folder options to search all files by content under Folder and Search Option, and set it to index Properties and File Contents under Indexing Options, but none of this has seemed to resolve the problem. Thanks for taking the time to reading and any input that might help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Not all file contents show in searches

Go back to Index Properties and File Contents, Modify and make sure the proper drive is selected. Then apply it to the entire drive (probably C:)

A long long time ago... ('97)
I was given a diskette containing 2 images that I would relly like to have on my PC. The problem is that these images were processed on a Mac in Belgium and I have a PC here in the UK. 1st steps? or is it a hopeless case.... however I'm sure if the diskette had pix of GWB doing a line, OBL in Sainsburys or Tony Blair having dinner with Paul Dacre.....

Answer:Old Mac based image file

Is the disc IBM or Mac format? Do you know the type of file the images are? If it is Mac format, you would have to find someone/somewhere that has a Mac with a floppy drive, if the disc is a floppy. If the image is a .jpg or .gif, then you can just copy them to the Mac and then just use a IBM format disc to copy them from the Mac to the PC. Mac formatted disc can't be read by PC's, but IBM formatted discs can be read by both. If the image file format is a Mac specific format, then you would need to use an image editor, such as Adobe Photoshop on the Mac to open the file and save it as a .jpg or another file format the your PC will recognize. I went to school for computer graphics and we used both Mac and PC's and that is the only way I know of to transfer image files from mac to PC. Hope I have been of help.

Hijack this log included after message below.
HI, my searches in firefox (and in IE, although only checked once) are redirecting to other sites. Sometimes with a "Reported Attack Page" warning. Originally the addresses were redirecting to, but now all sorts of pages.
I removed VirTool:win32/obfuscator/JW with SuperAntiSpyware
Removed Rogue Antivirus2010 in C:\WINDOWS\system32\us?rinit.exe - with Malwarebytes
REmoved HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Userinit (Trojan.Agent)with Malwarebytes.
REmoved Fake.SecurityAlert with Spybot
Removed win32.FraudTool.Antivirus2010 with Ad-Aware

**I still have the redirect and "Reported Attack Page" warning, but Antivirus2010 is not in Add and Remove Programs anymore.

I have hijack this log but not sure if I should post.

I know I have both Symantec and Microsoft Security Essentials (I got desperate) - I will remove one when out of safe mode.

Hello All, can anyone tell me if the indexing service is a resource hog or in any way will slow down the PC? I have two PC's that both have it enabled, one PC is more of a file server then anything else but my main PC is just for some net surfing and gaming. Should I disable this indexing service from my HDD for better performace? I'm using the 250GB drive in my sig.

Any general info on this service is appreciated, thanks!

Answer:HDD indexing service for fast file searches?

I've always read/heard/been taught that the indexing service does more harm (to performance) than benefit anything. I would just keep it turned off.

I've found that while the service is turned off, searching for files is reasonably fast anyways, as long as you have a fairly defragmented HD

So I have an INI file like this:

With a number after the =.

Basically, in vbs can I do this:
If Version is > or = 181 Then Run Some VBS
If Version is < 181 or Version.ini doesn't even exist, Run Some Different VBS

Oh, and the script I want to run for the second bit contains an if function.

Just to make sure, you CAN have an if function inside an if function, right?

Nested If-statements are possible.

Have a look at how ini files could look like.
Are there different sections? (in this case the ini file could contain more than one Version-value)

I download a file frequently where XXXXX refers to the latest version available the latest version is available here where the latest version is displayed is it possible to insert the latest version into the XXXXX in the first url ? I hope anyone reading can understand what I am trying to achieve

Answer:downloading a file based on another site

I'm afraid not - you can only guess at someone else's URL names and if you guess wrong, you won't get through.

You might try suggesting to the Webmaster at that site that he or she may name the pages sequentially as updates go through but they light reply that there's no demand for it - except from you.

Is there any type of program that can manage web based email, but pull all old email from an outlook 2003 PST file?

if would be great if it would also write to that same PST file thus perserving old mail, and writting new mail in a format that outlook would accept.

I have many, many different email boxes all inside outlook, and it would save me so much time if I could access them from the web instead of having to remote desktop into my server. The problem is, most computers I work at don't have remote desktop enabled, or simply dont support it.

So being able to access all my email from the web would be so much better. Does anyone know of any program that will do this. (I'd prefer something free, but if it will do what I want I don't mind paying for it.)

Answer:way to make an outlook file web based?

Easy, just connect to an IMAP server (you may have one already) with Outlook, create folders on the IMAP server, and move all your existing email into those.

Hi all,
I'm looking for a copy tool that use properties (such as exif data) rather then file names.
I'm trying to organize photos onto one drive. However I have duplicate files that don't share the same name.

Does anyone know of any software that would do what I need?
Thanks a bunch.

Answer:Copy tool that's not based on file name?

You can locate duplicates using md5 checksums - 'dupfiles' comes to mind.

What do you guys think? Would a small Atom based DC/File Server work for a small office like 5 users?

Most of these small offices, have hosted exchange, and just need a box to share/redirect my documents over to server, share files, and share a quickbooks file, and also centralize backup.

I see WHS is been showing some good use in small business, I personally like to have AD.

Answer:Atom based DC/File Server

The newer dual core would be fine for that, file redirection of my docs would be fine. I'd stuff the RAM and get fast disks for the Quickbooks though...the newer versions are dogs.

I have yet to scrape up the $ for an external drive. I was wondering what BC members thought of some of these services.
How far would you trust these sites with your non-life and death files?

Maybe I'll buy myself a new drive with my Bush money.

Answer:Web Based File-backup Services

In the long run, buying either a memory stick(s) or a second hard drive is less expensive and certainly more secure than on-line storage. You might also investigate the storage space allowed by Google Documents. I take it that copying the files to disk is not an option?

I have some files named for each day of the week (Monbackup.csv, Tuesbackup.csv, etc).

I want to copy Mondays file in the early hours on Tuesday morning to another server using a script - then the same for each day of the week.

Anyone know the best way to go about this? Am happy to use a batch file or PowerShell..

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Copy file based on date

Can you clarify; is the "date" of the file based on the name of it in its file name (i.e., your "Monbackup.csv"), or is it based on the save-date in its properties?

If its by the save-date in its properties, you can use the /mir option with Robocopy (I think if you're using XCOPY, you'd use /d (d for date) and then specify the date to use for that case by the entire option command "/d:MM-DD-YYY"). This will mirror a directory specified, copy the file to the new directory if it doesn't exist, and only overwrite the file if the source is newer than the copy.

You can do this in a batch file. You'd probably want something like:

ROBOCOPY sourcedirectory targetdirectory /option1 /option2 /option3

If you want to copy all folders and subfolders regardless of whether they're empty or not, you'd use the /e option. And to mirror and copy newest based on file property date, you'd use the /mir command. You can specify a log file output with the appropriate option. Exchange XCOPY with ROBOCOPY and /mir with /d:MM-DD-YYY as necessary.

I've been looking for a fast web based file server that can be hosted locally forever I'm using owncloud currently which all the features are awesome and the speed is okay but no where as fast as torrents uTP protocol. Can any recommend one that will actually transfer at my 100Mb up speed if the clients down speed can support it? Something that use udt ,fdt or anything other than tcp.
Here's what I did the other day testing with owncloud file transfer to a friend I hit a whole 16Mb speed transferring a file with that application. I then created a private torrent and gave that to him and it transferred at a speed around 50Mb which is decent considering he's not on fiber. And there's a huge difference in speed between the two applications so I am after something that can give me the transfer speed of uTP.

Answer:Fast web based file server

One thing you may want to consider before attempting to set up a local server. Read the fine print of your TOS from your ISP. Make sure that you are not subject to penalties for operating a server on your level of service. You could be in for a rude awakening otherwise.

Windows 7 Pro SP1 64 bit
Intel i5 CPU @2.67 GHz

This problem just started recently or I only noticed it in the past week or so. When I'm in any application that launches the File Open dialog, including any browser's "Select File/Browse" button to choose a local file, when I select a file (even a small 1K file) from the dialog and the dialog closes, there is a 5 - 10 second delay before the app responds and either opens the file or in the case of a browser, displays the file name. In those 5-10 seconds, the app is non-responsive. In a browser, other fields on the form cannot be clicked or selected for the 5-10 second period -- then the selected filename appears on the form.

This happens in all 4 browsers I tried: Chrome 32, IE 11, Firefox 26, and Safari.

I also booted Windows in safe mode and the problem still occurred.

I also ran KingSoft Office Writer and selected File->Open and the same issue occurs after selecting the file -- there is a noticeable delay that wasn't previously there.

In a code editor (PSPad), opening a file does the same thing as well (hangs for several seconds after selecting the file).

Randomly during testing, (but probably < ~5% of the time) it doesn't delay and works properly.

I ran System File Checker and MS Security Essentials, but both turned up a clean machine.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this lately?

Answer:File Open or Choose File dialog hangs application after selection made

Figured this one out... It turns out a network attached drive was not on for some reason and I had a drive letter mapped to it. Once I turned the drive back on, the hanging symptom went away!

Hi all,

I have read online that there is a solution for ADO-base application to work from top-down level, i.e, Win 7 to Win XP etc. However, I would like to know is there a solution to solve a bottom-up level problem for ADO application to work. A
short background story, I'm now working on a VB6 project which is running perfectly fine in Win XP ver. However, when I move my project from XP to Win 7 SP1 (Enterprise Version), and I tried to recompile it, I got the
"xx_deprecated" error.
I learn that using msado60_Backcompat.tlb is able to solve the top-down issue. So what about bottom-up? Does this method works too? Hope any gurus here can advise on me this issue. Thank you very much.

Like, not just chrome, all chromium builds. I use SR Ware's Iron. But if you open notepad, your google searches are in there. Even if you use clicknclean and/or ccleaner... Those searches are in there, hehe... I delete this file because I don't want all the stupid searches I do always there. But what's up with that? Anyone know why? I don't see what the favicon file has to do with google search inputs.
