YouTube So slow on Slow Internet connection. ANYTHING left?

Question: YouTube So slow on Slow Internet connection. ANYTHING left?

Hi. How are you? I am coming here because I'm going to attempt one more time. And then I'm going to call it a lost cause.I have aDell Latitude computer running windows 7. I have Google Chrome as my default browser. It is the easiest to get around in for me, and has tools for all of these popups that are in exitance. I have a question that I doubt has any real good answers, or any answer that is going to help, but I will go ahead and waiste these next few minutes just to see what happens. I LOVE YouTube. But YouTube I think is at the end of its time with me. I now have moved to a place that has a slightly slower speed and It is using Windstream. I now have PROFOUND problems browsing youtube because it is PROFOUNDLY SLOW.

REALLL slow. I have a question. Does anybody know of something in existance that would make it faster? I've checked my computer for bugs. NONE to be found. Cleaned it up. I've got ReadyBoost Activated, and I'm using chrome. Any suggestions or tools that would allow me to browse Youtube, and do all of the functions/features involved in YouTube like the PlayList Abilities such as AutoPlay and Auto-Repeat? ANYTHING? Oh, I Defragmented it too. And deleted other programs that I wanted to delete. Still profoundly slow. Internet Explorer isn't happening. BAAAAAD IDEA. Tried it. We're talking about Taking the definition of Profoundly slow to new and dangerous levels. Thank you very much. Sorry for waisting your time, and God Bless.

Preferred Solution: YouTube So slow on Slow Internet connection. ANYTHING left?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:slow internet loading, slow youtube response: Dell 5558

also, this unit has an intel AC-3160 wifi card.  can this be upgraded or adjusted to work better?

Hi all,
I have 2 computers, a Dell laptop and a Dell Desktop, they are recently new, have been working fine, they both have Vista. Just as of late last night the internet connections have been poor, either not connecting at all or slow. I have AVG 8.0 but it has not found any viruses....any help would be appreciated. thanks,

Answer:Solved: Internet connection slow, downloading slow

Hi Dano.
Are both pc's hardwired or one wireless through your router?
Are both slow at the same time?
Have you tried eliminating the router and hardwiring one pc directly through the modem.(will require a power on reset of the modem)?

Do a speed check
www.speakeasy.net/speedcheck
Any recent hardware/software changes?
Any error msgs ?

Is this cable or DSL?
Knowing some of these things will assist the techs here to delve further into the problem.

Hello, i'll be grateful if you could help us with a problem that we are having with our laptops at home. Let me to explain you, my wife have his own laptop at home, as I have mine laptop too, both of the computers share a wi-fi internet conection. I'm not sure of what's going on but the internet conection it's extremely slowly, sometimes when we reboot our laptops there is no internet conection. According to our ISP there's no problem with the internet conection, they said it could be something with the laptops.

Now, It's true that the two laptops are more slowly, specially my wife's laptop, it takes too long for any processes, I always take a look to the running processes and it seems like there are too much process always but I'm not sure of what is good and whats isn't.

I decided to attach The HiJack log from my wife's laptop, maybe with this you could help us to figure out what's going on.

Thanks for your time!

Hello

I've been noticing a slower than normal connection/download speeds for youtube videos. All other file and video streaming sites and file downloads use my full bandwidth speed while youtube sometimes streams at half or less my full bandwidth speed. I use youtube's stats for nerds connection speed and task manager for my readings.

Things I've noticed with youtube:
1. The more youtube videos I watch the slower/lower the connection speed is for youtube videos. I don't have this problem with other sites.
2. Deleting the cookies for google.com and youtube.com along with the temporary internet files doesn't restore full connection speed.
3. A larger file cache is used when you select your quality manually vs auto with the same quality.

Things I have changed in windows:
1. Change Maximum Download Connections per Server Limit in Internet Explorer is set to 16 in group policy.
2. Limit reserved bandwidth is set to On and 0% in group policy.
3. Internet explorer data space to use is set to 1024MB.

Thanks

Answer:Youtube slow connection speed IE11

It looks like deleting the google and youtube cookies and temporary internet files doesn't restore full connection speed to youtube videos.

After some further troubleshooting I found that it's either youtube or my isp(TWC) throttling down the connection speed for youtube streaming. I've also tried openDNS and a youtube faster connection trick, but neither did anything. Connection speeds can go as low as 1/3rd of my internet bandwidth when starting to watch a video even though speed tests show correct speeds.

Other things I should try?
1. Reset ie 11. My guess is this would do nothing as other video stream services like amazon prime and other video sites don't have this problem.
2. Install google chrome to compare it to ie 11?

Just recently started to notice the speed of my connection has greatly slowed down! I am on a desktop PC that is using a linksys wireless USB adapter to connect to my router. I looked at the speed and it was like 18mbps when it used to be like 54mbps. Now my laptop on the other hand if i have it right where i have the same desktop pc connects to the router and receives a speed of 54mbps. Whats going on here? why did my desktop pc suddenly get slower? Its prolly just a coincidence but right after I installed frostwire it seemed like thats when it got slower. (no frostwire isnt running and thats not why it seems like my connection is slower). But there isnt really a way that an application could cause my actual connection speed to slow down is there? The only thing that i can think of is that my linksys wireless usb adapter is going bad or something? does anyone have any ideas, or suggestions on what is going on here??

sorry, if this not the right place please move. I did many google searches cant seem to find the issue Im having, or maybe lack of the right key searches. You guys are my last hope.
I will try to explain my problem as clearly as I can. And so sorry about my bad grammar and spelling, trying to post this asap.

first off give small history of my PC. I bought my PC new Sept 2001. A HP Pavilion with 1.3 ghz, 256ram, and a 55gig hard-drive originally came with WinMe, since then I upgraded to XP. I kept my PC case clean, didn't try to install programs my PC couldn't handle, didn't go to any sites that knew were bad with viruses and such also had Malwareytes/spybot/avast/hijackthis to use, didnt install any toolbars, and tried not to have many programs open at the same time. I basically kept my PC simple with use.

Anyways around June I noticed some odd slowdowns
While playing Winamp and running a torrent with speeds of more than 400+ the audio would become choppy. This also happen when I would open FF, IE or any program while running Winamp, the audio would be choppy.

Extracting 700mb files from Winrar would take around 8mins

Playing Youtube, WMP, of VLC videos would be slow and choppy.

Transferring files from one PC to another over a crossover cable would take much longer. 4gigs of files would take about 20mins or so.

Virus scanners, Avast, Malwarebytes, and Spybot would also take much longer than usual.

So, about 2 weeks ago while my brother was on Youtube my... Read more

Could someone please help me?

My ISP is Videotron (I live in Quebec), and I have a D-LINK DIR-615 Wireless N. My internet connection is just over 10 megabits per second, averaging a download speed of 1150 kilobytes per second, which remains unchanged, (multiple speed tests, downloads and torrents).

About a month ago, when watching videos on YouTube, they started streaming at extremely low speeds, making videos that used to finished streaming in seconds completely unwatchable.

I have restarted my router, modem, Anti-Virus (with firewall - Kaspersky Internet Security 2010) and computer several times and it didn't help. The only thing that did help was plugging my computer directly into the modem, which returned the speeds to normal.

However, I have 3 friends, all of which have Videotron, but not D-LINK routers, experiencing the same problem. Videotron does not throttle, and I have not changed computers, routers, modems, operating systems, virus protection software or internet browser since long before the problem began.

Please help, I feel like I have a dial-up connection.

I recently recovered my PC after getting that data hijack virus (The one that ransoms a code to restore all your pictures/videos, etc for a price)

My internet still works on this PC, but it's running slightly slower than usual, basically like windows Explorer (lol).
But mainly videos via youtube constantly receive the "An error occurred, please try again later. Learn more." message.

It can SOMETIMES be bypassed if I set the video's settings to the lowest and refresh, to which the video will play.

I know this is not my internet, since my other PC and laptop are running off the same internet, and not running into the same problem.

So any tips?

Thank you for taking the time to read my request.

I purchased an HP entertainment laptop (windows vista os) about a year ago and I started experiencing problems with my speed a couple of months ago.

Most recently, I've experienced the following:

1. Slower speed surfing the net
2. Slow to open up an Internet Window (about 8 seconds)
3. Can not browse internet at the same time that an anti virus program is turned on (to monitor). Has occured with Norton and Trend Micro.
4. Can no longer access I-Tunes store or Rhapsody store when I open the applications.
5. You Tube videos are stop and go instead of running fluidly.

All of this is new behavior for my laptop...

Any ideas on what may be happening or what I should try to do next? I downloaded hijackthis, so I have that software program on my computer.

If anyone is willing to help, I would greatly appreciate it! Please let me know if you need additional information.

Many thanks in advance!

I've had my computer for about 3 years, a Dell Dimension 4700,Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3. Lately it's been running a lot slower than it used to. I can't seem to figure out what's causing my computer to be slow. My fan inside my tower has been louder and my tower has been making louder noises. When opening "My Computer" it takes about 2 minute to load, and Microsoft Word freezes more often now.

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

I'm having problems regarding my wireless internet. First off, we've got two computers, one upstairs which uses a regular modem, and this one downstairs which gets its internet connection through a router upstairs.

Now, from my computer upstairs, the internet works flawlessly throughout of the day. This downstairs computer, its internet connection is...to put it mildly, crap, depending on the time of day. Speed always seems to go real slow at around the same time each day, around 2pm, around 4pm and again around 7pm. It seems to get back on track around 9-10pm, which is right now.

The funny thing is that it says connection is 'excellent' or 'very good'. Here's an example. It's the same scenario whether internet connection is actually very very slow or at normal speed.

I have no idea why, and I'd be really grateful if anyone can help me out. Tips or remedies on what I can do, because it's very frustrating!

Thank you.

Router: Edimax BR-604 WG

Answer:Very slow internet connection though status shows connection is 'excellent'

How the computer downstairs connected to the internet? I guessing your modem is upstairs?

I don't get what's wrong with this computer. Almost everyday it acts slow, it takes about 2 minutes to login to a page. Some days it will act fast and other days it won't and it's annoying, especially when I have to use the internet to research! It's even acting worse than a 56k modem. I've done a spyware check with spyweeper and it finds adware sometimes and I delete them, but it doesn't seem to have an affect on the speed. Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be and how to fix it. Also I have a very old cable modem, I've had it since 2002 I believe. It's a Surfboard SB4100 Cable Modem.

Answer:Help! Slow Computer, Slow Internet. Slow, Slow, Slow!

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

I need some help with my laptops internet connection. It's an older Dell Inspiron with an external Linksys wireless-g usb adapter which connects to my desktop. A few days ago all of a sudden I could't logon to my homepage at all (SBC Yahoo DSL). After several attempts to trouble shoot my connection it didn't get much better. FYI the desktop that the laptop is connected to with the Linksys adapter works just fine. I have uninstalled the software for Yahoo and am trying to use Firefox to get on the web which I can now do but the connection is very very slow still. In the connection section of the control panel it has a dial up connection selected as the default I'm not sure if that is correct of not. I'm not sure what to do now. Any help or info would be very much apreciated, as you can tell by my post I'm not very "computer savy".

Thaks for any help.

For the past two weeks or so, my internet connection on my pc has become extremely slow(from 200kb to 10). Not only has it gotten slower, i also cannot download anything without the connection stopping. The problem, i believe began a couple months ago with just youtube videos streaming slower and downloads stopping ever few minutes, but until these past two weeks its never been that much of a issue.

I know the problem is isn't my dsl because it works fine with other internet capable electronics so it must be a software/driver issue. The svchost uses up 100% of the CPU when something tries to update so it likely might be a windows based program acting up.

This is a friends computer. HP Pavillion dv7. Windows 7 x64.
It has no internet connection, wireless or wired through ethernet.
wireless says it's connected but no internet connection. (white page)
It has Avast Premier and Malware Bytes as av software.
Attempted to navigate computer. So slow and re-accurring lockups.
Tried to run rkill then malware bytes. Still running very poorly, often locking up, no internet connection.
Tried to reset adapter, uninstalled re-installed, tried to reset winsock.
Pretty sure my friend runs a lot of junk on this system.
I can follow directions quickly and to the letter to my esteemed person who chooses to guide me.
 Gracious thanks,

Answer:Very slow no internet connection at all

Hi! I'm sorry to hear about the issues you are having.

- What do you see on the network icon in the taskbar, does it have a red X or an exclamation mark? or does it show connected?
- Do you have any other internet capable device in your network that has connection at the moment? Perhaps it could be a router/modem problem.
- If you run CMD and type ping www.google.com what type of response do you get?
- It would be good if you could run this excellent tool and check all the boxes - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/netadapter-repair-all-in-one/
- Mod Edit:  Removed suggestion to use RogueKiller...this tool is not used in this forum - Hamluis.

Hi.
I truly hope someone here can help.

I usually have good broadband connection, but not anymore. Three days ago i downloaded and installed a free trial of Norton 360.

It slowed down everything; computer's performance and internet connection. I have since dumped Norton, which has made my computer's performance a bit faster. but there's no improvement to my internet connection.

My internet service provided has tested my internet speed and found nothing wrong with it, the signal is good, no problem.

I tested my computer for bugs, unwanted programs, but found nothing. I deleted all my cookies, internet browser setting and any else i can think of. I even cleaned up my hard drive and put a whole lot of gig back into the system. But nothing works.

Nothing will improve my internet connection.

What must I do? How can this be solved? I am truly fed up.
I have a vista 32 bit which runs on an acer aspire computer. Up until the Norton installation everything ran FINE.

Can someone help me please?
Much obliged.

When I start Windows normally my internet connection is very slow and sometimes I can't even browse. But when I tried to start Windows in Safe Mode, the connection seems to be ok. Can you tell me what is the problem here?

I use the internet usually for browsing and torrent downloads and I have a McAfee Security Center installed. My OS is Windows XP Pro SP2.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello!
Our computers are both running so slowly- it happened after we had automatic updates from microsoft. Got up this morning and my computer (both) had re-started. Not only is it as slow as molasses, but somewhere it lost my word document- no where to be found. Usually pops up as 'recovered document'.. now wondering if perhaps a giant virus was downloaded.
Thanks,
Caroline

Hi,

I've been having problems with really slow internet connection over the past few day (it's been as low as 68kbps) and I've contacted virgin media about it and thus far they have been useless. I've tried everything they suggested: bought a new router, changed to a corded telephone and restarted my laptop but none of it has worked!! They now suggest that I get a new IP address. Does anyone know if this will help at all and if so how I change it?

Any advice/help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

I have a network with a number of computers all wired to a router. All of the computers except one have no problem loading web sites. That other computer will remain at the 'Waiting for www.whatever.com' stage for several minutes before finally loading the page. This occurs both with IE (6 and 7) and Firefox. No other computers are experiencing this problem.

I've scanned for spyware etc using Spybot and cleaned the registry with JV16 Powertools, but it has made no difference. Neither has defrag or freeing more disk space. This computer is running XP Pro SP2. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi,

Wasnt sure where post this but I really need help.. Well the story told.

Around 5 days ago I was getting lag on all my pc games... Each day it got worse and worse. Till the current day now where it takes like 5 miniutes to load google or even more or sometimes nothing loads. Cant get internet at all on my laptop no more!

I have contacted Virgin Media and for about 2 days it was. Sir please turn your modem off for 10 seconds reconnect all cables bla bla. Then when they said is your internet working and I say yes. They seem to think the problem was fixed... Hard to explain the problem over the phone to people who aint english... anyway my Dad soon said we want to cancel unless we speak to someone who knows what there on about. So finally we got someone who was still clueless. But then he said to me go my modem settings. Then 20 mins in the call he asked me read out my modem upstream which looks like this:

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 3
Upstream Frequency : 37504000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QAM16
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 37.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

He said 37 is way to high and this is the problem. He then said it should be fixed in few days and that all he could say :S... My mate cross the road is on Virgin Media his is fine.. Virgin Media are clueless and just say turn your modem off. Or it all fine there end so its my (problem) I dont see how that is im sure everything fine here. As they ... Read more

Hello I am new to this forum. Nice to meet you guys.

I was on the original post from 18th of jan. named:
Very slow internet connection

link: http://forums.techguy.org/networking/672824-very-slow-internet-connection.html

But for some reason it was closed and don't see an exact solution to the poster's prob.

We have this problem with 2 stations at our work place. They run off a domain server,
and the thing i've noticed since i've been fighting with the computers all day is that
with the speedtest's, one is downloading @ 0.07 mbps, the other runs normal 6.00+ mbps which
is what is garanteed by our ISP.

But the station running 6.00mbps, is failing the upload test, it is timing out.
The 0.07mpbs station is running the garanteed 0.60mpbs upload speed tho.

I was asking myself if this could be some sort of colision problem, as one machine is
downloading fine, when the other is not, and vise versa on the upload part.

So far, we've run RegPro on both machine, which found over 1000+ errors, fixed, and
still no improvments. Also Malware bytes. Spybot S&D.

The station unable to upload cannot send attachements with emails, as it times out
after a couple of minutes. And also, internally, I usually scan documents from the
office scanner, into a network partition intended for those documents, it has never
had any problems before but for some reason it doesnt let me write new files.

If i'm not mistaken, the server machine is used as a domain,... Read more

Hi,

Our desktop (different computer than I posted about before) is experiencing very slow Internet speeds.  I've run MBAM with no results.  Further, it would not allow me to get online at all.  I worked around this by connecting to the "guest" account on our router.

Windows 7, 64 bit, McAfee AV

I've run MBAM, JRT, Temp File Cleaner, RKill with no results.

Thanks for any help!

I purchased the laptop from staples and from out of the box it was only connecting at about half the speed of my other devices.  I called my ISP to come out and look and they said everything was fine on my interenet.  I live in the country and only get 6Mbps anyway but my older HP laptop gets that speed as does my Surface.  The laptop would peak around 3 then slowly trickle down on the meter till it hit about 1.  I contacted online chat and they told me that it sounded like a software issue and wanted me to pay for support.  I contacted staples and they exchanged it for me.  The new one does the same exact thing.  When I am on campus with it my other devices will get well above 100Mbps and this laptop will get about 12 and then trickle down to almost nothing.  It is taking forever to download anything.  I have went in and changed the power save mode on the wireless to so that it doesn't kick into a powersave mode but that didn't to help.  Any help would be apprecaited. I love my other HP laptop but this one seems to just be an expensive paper weight at this point.

Hi,

The thing is my connection is running slow, i know it's not the connection itelf, because i have a router and the other pc works great. But in this one, msn drops every 5 minutes, and IE works slow, it's as if its stops every once in a while completly and then it works again but really slow.

What really concerns me, is that there are moments in wich everything stops, i can't move the mouse, the music stops and everything stads still for a couple seconds.

Before the logs,i read the thread about p2p after doing the logs, if you dont have any serious police against them, i would want to keep them. Even if right now doesn't seem like it, i'm a responsible user, not a very legal one, but responsible. Just music, no exe's or games...
What i'm culprit of doing, is downloading pre craked games from direct links, wich i already stop doing...

I know mi antivirus needs update, but its just a cuple days old and right now i have no way of downloading me update.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me , and i'm very sorry for any mistakes with my english... And for any part in the scan in spanish too.

I recently .. relocated. I wanted to go with Comcast but after talking with a few friends, I found that sharing bandwidth with neighbors was not a good idea..

So I got DSL with Bellsouth. My internet speeds have been unusually slow. I should be recieving speeds.. up to.. 1.5 mbps. To make matters worse, my speeds were consistantly at the lowest acceptable speeds for my service..~780 kbps down, ~120 kbps up! Bellsouth tried and tried to help me, but were unsuccessful!

I have tried their optimization tool. No use. I am at a loss at how to fix this, getting cable, or sticking with DSL.

Answer:Slow Internet Connection

Oh yes, I do not have any viruses on my computer and the programs installed are minimal. I used the same computer, same settings at my old house with no connectivity issues. I was getting the full 1.5 at my old house.. ahh good days.

Hello, I have tried everything that I know how to do to speed up my internet connection through Charter Communications. They have replaced my modem, incoming cable and I have replaced the hard drive.

I have removed old programs, checked for double firewalls, defragged, disk clean up, reset internet options......Can somebody please give me a new suggestion on what might be causing this problem??? I am just about ready to chuck the whole thing. I have deleted Java (completely!), what else can be done?

I'm using Windows XP, have AVG free virus checker and I don't even have Windows word or excel installed yet. WHAT !!!

Answer:Really Slow Internet Connection

I have charter too.

I live in Southern California, Ventura to be exact. Myconnection has been extremely slow past two weeks too, as well as my neighbors. I live in a apt complex and everyone is basically cool with each other so we share some complaints, good times, and so forth.

I asked them about the net services and they all have the same issue too.

I called charter twice. The first time they said there were server outages.. BS!

The second time the internet dept said there were upgrading their systems to make way for the new 16mb internet service.

I called complained as did my neighbors about our service being jacked up for two weeks. we basically demanded that they prorate our accounts for the downtime which they did

as of today, my connection is back to normal. Maybe the have started upgrades in your area.

My computer's hardrive crashed and I replaced it with my old computer's hardrive that had a virus in it. I got rid of the viruses (I think) by using antivirus programs: Nortons, Malwarebytes, and Regcure. It worked for a while, but everything was slow. Now its slow and the internet connection is not working very well. It connects, but only sends and receives about 93 and 67. I also have drive robot to help me recover drivers.

Hi,

I have a dell studio 1557 running windows 7. I live in my own apartment with roommates in college, and i've been having some very bad issues with slow internet or constant down time. Here are some key points:

- I have Charter internet.
- My 2 other roommates have NO ISSUES.
- My laptop works in my family's house. They have Comcast. I went on vacation a week ago and there were no issues on the hotel internet. No issues from the school's internet.
- I have been using my android phone as a tether because the internet is more stable. It's slow, but consistent for the most part. This is extra frustrating because I shouldnt have slow internet. And I sure as hell shouldnt be paying for internet I can't even enjoy.
- Charter has replaced 2 routers. Both are brand new. They are net gear. Charter is clueless to my problem.
- I have reinstalled windows. Dell told me to try safe mode. I noticed NO ISSUES WITH STANDARD BROWSING IN SAFE MODE. This leads me to believe it is a software issue.
- The connection is non-existent when coming out of hibernation or rebooting. In the morning, i have to boot up, make my coffee, and only then will it give me access to the internet. Otherwise, page timeouts. It can take up to 10 minutes for the internet to work.
- Youtube and general multitasking is very bad. Slower connection than ever, page timeouts, and I often need to wait for a video/music to buffer before I begin enjoying it.

When I first turn on my computer, it does not connect to the internet. In the bottom right I watch the timer go round and round on the internet access symbol, then it shows a yellow triangle with exclamation mark. If I mouse over that, it says no internet access. If I then go back and hit restart, it goes through the re-boot process and does connect OK. It has done this since it was new. I also got a new modem with same results. I have a Dell backup system with Windows 10 plugged into the same modem and it always starts the first time.

Hello - I have a 4-year old laptop (Toshiba), Windows XP, not much software in it. I use mainly for cruising the web and e-mail.

From the time I push the on-button to my Comcast homepage takes a few minutes. Very very slow.

I've contacted Comcast (they're great BTW), and they told me I already have the highest broadband possible for my internet, so obviously, the problem must be on my end.

ALSO, 2 years ago, I was accessing e-mail FROM WORK through my home computer (and I was warned NOT to do it cuz it would mess up my computer at home). Surely, after that, I noticed my computer to be slow, sluggish and got a few error messages.

It's better now. I have virus sweep, defragment and have done disk clean-up, but none of these seem to help SPEED up my internet.

I am not networked to anything but BY VIRTUE of accessing work e-mail, I think I somehow got connected to their network.

I do not know how to fix that.

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance. I am a computer moron so please be patient.

I am experiencing a slow internet connection using my new desktop
Internet speeds using BBC connection speed test being as follows:
Laptop (built in wi-if)- 8334 kbps - when both desktop and laptop on and using internet
Laptop (built in wi-fi)- 8374 kbps - when desktop off and only laptop connected to internet
Desktop - -448 kbps - when laptop on and using internet
Desktop - 438 kbps - when laptop off and only desktop using internet
As an example it took me two hours on my desktop to download 221MB and with other downloads it was still as slow
I am using a TEXET wireless 802.11b/g/n USB adapter with advertised connection speed of 150 mbps
and I use a BT wireless hub
I don't think it could be the hub as the desktop runs slow whether in competition with my laptop for internet connection or not
Also if it was the hub why would it always give such a fastest rate to the laptop when both are on.?
According to the Realtek 11n USB software which came with TEXET wireless adapter it shows signal strength 67% and link quality
99% - I would expect a faster connection if these are correct.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Have you had a look in device manager to see if any yellow exclamation marks.Or checked Taskmanager to see if anything using up most of the CPU.
If you are getting 8mb download speed on the laptop you should be getting about the same on the Desktop.

Hi, folks
I have 3 PCs at home, all on a wireless network with broadband. They all claim to have a "Very Good" connection to my network, but one of them has a mysteriously slow--sometimes, very very slow--connection.

This is a sporadic problem and when it happens it often stays a long time, which is infuriating. When it happens, the other PCs (laptops, actually) work fine.

I don't think physical location has much to do with it, because I don't notice a connectivity change when I bring the laptops to where the PC is .

What confuses me is that it claims to have a great connection to the network at a time when i know the network is working fine because I'm surfing the net on one of the laptops. All the PCs claim to have a great connection, but only two are succeeding despite to all apparences having the same setup.

Is there any chance that despite the fact that the other PCs are doing fine this is a router issue?

Do I need to get a new wireless card? What else could it be?

Thanks.

Answer:Dog-slow Internet connection on 1 of my PCs

WELCOME TO tsg:Knowing make and model of router and modem as well as type of broadband connection(dsl/cable)
Operating system and level
Here are some things to look at:
Is there a current firmware upgrade to your router.
Have you run a spyware and virus scan lately.
When it is slow, take a look at task managerl. Is there a task that is running % high.
Are you running the same anti virus and firewall on all pc's.
I am sure that others here will have some more suggestions, but this should get you started

Hello,
Ive got a problem with the connection on my computer. First some info on the computer....it is a HP Pavilion ze1115 laptop, 256 MB of RAM, windows xp, 1.1 GHZ AMD Duron processor, and I use Wal Mart connect, which is a dial up service. My problem is with the connection. I hit connect in wal mart connect, and it connects, then it says it is talking to the network, and this is where it usually hangs up, and tells me it was unable to establish a connection. If it does connect, it is a very slow connection. It was usually at 45K, now it is connecting at 38K if it connects at all. I have tried swapping phone cords, uninstalling and re-installing WM connect, ran spyware program, antivirus program, which all turned up clear. I also downloaded the free netzero account, just to see if it was only WM connect that it was doing it with, but it is also like that with the netzero account. Any ideas on what might be wrong?

Answer:Slow Internet Connection

Have you tried dialing out on a different phone jack, or better, from a different site (eg go to friend's house and try connecting from there)?

You may have a failing modem.

I have a new Microsoft Wired Router, new D Link Switch, and new Cat 5 cables. I have 6 computer connected to them. Some of the time when I try to connect to the internet it runs like a 14.4 modem. I have a 1.5Mbs cable connection. I know that cable speed depends on how many people are the same node and are online and that sharing slow down the connection, what I don't understand is why its still that slow when I am the only one on the network using the internet.

I have windows 2000 pro installed. Do you think this is a software confiuration problem or maybe a network problem?

Answer:Slow internet connection though LAN

Too many variables. If you're the only one actually using the Internet, my guess is you're having cable or ISP problems, not network issues. If you can connect to other machines at normal bandwidth, it's unlikely to be your problem.

They are connected to the internet via a router with automatic IP addresses assigned by DHCP. All NICs are 10/100, cables Cat5.

Win98's connection is so slow that IE frequently times out when both XP have can access the same site in a flash.

I've been having malware problems for about a year now, but I only began addressing them a month or so ago. My computer was very infected since I had LimeWire and downloaded some bad files. So far I have scanned my computer tons of times using Windows Defender, AdAware SE, SpyBot Search and Destroy, ZoneAlarm Antivirus and Antispyware, Panda AntiVirus, and Housecall AntiVirus. I also use ZoneAlarm Firewall. For a while, my computer liked to randomly freeze up and/or restart, but that's stopped happening since I started scanning it more. At that time, the connection was fine. Then, my internet connection started going extremely slow. I downloaded ZoneAlarm firewall and it seemed to be fixed. It started being slow again a while after I installed the firewall so I downloaded SpyBot and AdAware and scanned. It removed a lot of spyware and tracking cookies. The connection was more or less normal for a few days after that, but now it's being slow again. Yesterday I scanned my computer for viruses and spyware with Housecall. It didn't find anything. Today I scanned with Defender, SpyBot, AdAware, and ZoneAlarm's stuff and none of them found anything. So now I'm really confused. It takes forever for images and videos to load. Hi winniemazing,You appear to have no antivirus software running - most of the programs you listed in your post are antispyware programs, not antivirus. Without antivirus software your computer is very vulnerable and can easily be infected at any time so it it is essential you have one active at all times. There are several free packages available, two of the most popular are here:Antivir: http://www.free-av.com/AVG Antivirus: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1If you have no antivirus program then download and install one immediately, update the definitions and set it to update automatically. Then do a full system scan and quarantine/delete anything it finds, and make a note of where the logfile is stored so you can post a copy in your next response.Disable Spybot's TeaTimer. This is a two step process. First step: Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol) If you have the new version 1.5, Click once on Resident Protection, then Right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. Hi,

I've recently had a problem with my internet connection. I'm using DSL from Primus and it's supposed to be at 7 Mbps, but i usually get around 2873 kbps (pretty good). A few days ago, it became very slow and some websites don't load well. I tried many speed tests, but they never even start (i wait 15 minutes and it still says: "preparing speed test"). I called my ISP Primus Canada and after trying to troubleshoot, Technical Support said it was my computer's problem. Even though will all my apps disabled the speed was still very slow.

Any idea if it really is my computer or is it my ISP's fault?

(I run Vista Home Premium, AMD 64X2 4000+, RAM 2GB)
(and also all Youtube videos i try to watch never even load)

Any replies would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi,

I was asked to repost here from this forum:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/561259/very-slow-internet-connection/#entry3580399

UPDATE:  I have been able to access my router's normal network (guest account is no longer needed) but It's still very slow, like 3 MBPS versus 30 MBPS (both wireless connections).

Thanks for any help!

Joe

Hello.

I have setup a local area network.

I have a web server that can also be accessed from outside.

I have a PC with Microsoft Proxy Server 1.0 loaded. My inside users can connect to the local intranet web site (using Microsoft Proxy 1.) and they can download powerpoint files at LAN speed.

Now, I installed another proxy server (non microsoft) and I configured internet explorer to use it. I notice that my internal intranet users are downloading their presentation very slow (10K /sec). Actually, it seems that the system delivers the bandwidth that is for serving our Outside users.

Could you explain what is the cause of this strange effect?

Also, when it try to access internal my web server using its internal IP address (192.168.x.x) the system does not load the web page. I can only access it using www.etc...
Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

The internet speed on one of my computers has slowed considerably while the other computers remain fine. I ran speed tests at speedtest.net, here the results:

Slow computer:  Download speed -  11.1 Mbps  Upload Speed - 16.44 Mbps

Fast computer:  Download speed - 52.8 Mbps  Upload Speed - 16.52 Mbps

Certain websites can't load properly, some downloaded files appear to be corrupted and I have trouble watching streaming video. I have done scans with Kaspersky Internet Security 2014, Malwarebytes, Spybot, Trend Micro and Ad-aware but no change. When I would try to update those programs, they couldn't do it. I manually updated them iand ran scans but the problem still persists. I have no P2P software running. I have the same problems in safe mode. I normally use the wifi but I tried switching to an ethernet cable, still no change. I am running Windows 8.1. Could you please help me resolve this problem?

Thanks

Answer:Slow internet connection

Turn off your AVs, try your internet speed now.

Also, you only need ONE full-featured real-time AV. Pick either Kaspersky or TrendMicro. Uninstall or disable the other (uninstall is best).

Answer:Slow internet Connection

My answer probably will not satisfy you much. I recommend going to good speed test sites often (try cnet.com, dslreports.com, dfw.speakeasy.net, etc) and get a baseline number for an average download speed. Then consider that as your working bandwidth speed. Also, you've got to remember that as you use the Internet throughout the day, your speed will go up and down drastically depending on the time of day, who else is on your Internet trunk, your ISP's capabilities, and the capabilities of the site you're downloading from. My ISP gives me about 1.1 mbps tops, but there are days, certain hours of the day, etc., when I go down to 250 kbps. It ususally picks back up in several hours, especially later in the day when all the office "workers" go home after surfing the Net all day.

Good luck

I have two laptops running Win7 Home Premium 64 bit. One laptop gets normal internet connections - both wireless & wired; the other is very slow. I have updated all network drivers on the problem laptop. (Actually, when I automatically updated the network drivers from Device Manager the drivers were indicated as up to date.)

I did a complete scan with McAfee - 0 issues.

When I booted in Safe Mode with networking, the internet connection is normal.

I have looked at the startup and processes in MSCONFIG. There is nothing suspicious - i.e. the only software is from manufacturers that I would expect based on the applications installed.

What should I do to troubleshoot this problem?

My internet has been extremely slow. I went through the malware section and confirmed there is no malware. I am wired to the internet and checked my connection speed, 3.54 download, 4.24 upload. I should be around the 30mbps range. I checked another computer on the same network (wireless) with a speed of 24.39 download. I have used JRT to clean junk, it produced a log and then i followed the rest of the clean up form the malware section and it deleted the log.

I have an 1 yr old HP Pavilion tx 2000 PC. It has a AMD Athlon(tm) Dual-Core QL-60 1.90 GHz processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 32-bit OS, and windows Vista Business.

I have a MAC too. The PC is constantly connecting and disconnecting. website take forever to download, etc... The MAC works fine. no issues at all. What could be the problem with the PC? tried it at Future shop today and it worked fine there, so it must be something between the computer and the home network/internet? The internet is provided by ACN. and I have a new wireless router from Linksys.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Internet Connection Really slow on PC but not on MAC?

Does the problem happen only with ethernet, only with wireless, or with both?

Make sure you have the latest correct NIC driver(s).

Make sure you have the latest router firmware. Then reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

If you are using WEP try WPA(2)-PSK, as Vista sometimes struggles with WEP.

Hey there,

For the past 2 weeks I have been having issues with one of my computers. I have 2 PC's and 1 Laptop running off an internet connection. One PC is wired to the model while the 2nd pc and laptop are running wireless connections. The wireless pc for the past 2 weeks has been extremly slow to the point where most websites don't load or take 5 mins to load partially. I don't see it as an ISP issue as the other computers work perfectly!

I am really stuck on what I should do? I have downloaded adaware to search for malware but the scan came back clean except for 1 tracking cookie which I removed...

Any suggestions?

Internet connection was getting very slow, this coincided with getting error message "There was an unexpected error: Class not registered (0x800401540". Have reinstalled Vista and the error messages have gone but internet is still painfully slow. I go via cable from my desktop into a belkin wireless router (F5D7632-4) My kids have their laptops and my son plays COD 4 on his PS3 all through this router. If I have the cable in then the internet is slow or fails to open sites and my son cant play on the PS3, if I remove the cable then the laptops and PS3 work fine, no problems. I have tried a new cable and I have tried a new belkin PCI network card but the problem persists. Any ideas???

Answer:Very slow internet connection

As it always been like this with so many connections, or has something got faulty? I'm guessing it could have something to do with firmware update. This is were your isp update router with software.Sometimes the updates play with settings and make things worse. If you log into the router, it will tell you when the last update was. Then you can check dates and see if thats when things went wrong.

I bought a new pc in July with plenty of memory and hard disk space and my internet connection has been very fast. However, for the last two days my internet connection has become very very slow. I have also been unable to install windows updates (keep getting an error message) and have also been unable to sign-in to MSN messenger or download new version (due to it not having a 'digital signature').I called BT Broadband today and they have confirmed that there are no problems on the line. I am able to connect to the internet, but it takes bout 5 mins for IE to open and then it's just as slow to open new pages. Normally it takes one second.I'm convinced that there's something on my pc that it is slowing it down, but not not sure what to check. Does anyone have ideas or suggestions as to what might be slowing it down?My PC is an Acer. I have Windows Vista (unfortunately) and I use Nortons Security.

Hi, ok so I've been on this campus for two years and have never experienced any slow internet connection problems. But since I moved in this building in April, I've been experiencing an extremely slow internet connection. The first day I got here, my download speed was fine--around 350 kb/s. Then days after that, it just went down to 50 kb/s and has stayed this way ever since, for almost two months now. I emailed the supposed campus "tech" guys and they just told me to test my speed here: http://nitro.ucsc.edu/ and to compare with a neighbor's. Well, I asked a neighbor and she said her internet connection has been fine. I, on the other hand, can't even watch a short clip on youtube without it freezing and buffering. Anyway, I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the settings I have on this laptop. My connection is usually fine when I'm not on campus. But it doesn't seem like anyone else is experiencing this problem, so I really don't understand. The guy suggested that it was my ethernet cable, but I tried a friend's and the speed was still the same. Ok, so here are the results, but due to my limited knowledge of computers and networking, I really don't know. Anyone have any suggestions? Any TCP/IP configurations, or whatever? Should I try OpenDNS?

If your laptop has a fast connection in another location, and another working machine has a slow connection at your location, it's not your machine. You need to pursue the campus IT folks, because they're the only ones that can solve this issue.

Alright, I have been struggling with this problem for about 4 months now, all other websites want me to run a line connection test when I can't understand why I can tell them everything they need to know already... Anyway...

I am running SBC Global DSL, rated at 1.5K Kbps. My modem model is a Speedstream 5100 with firmware version 1.0.0.53. From my modem it runs into my Linksys WRT54G Wireless router with firmware 4.30.5. The router firewall router is disabled.

So here is my situation, as I previously stated, my connection that I am paying for is supposed to be 1.5K Kbps. Then for what ever reason the connection slumps down to around 384 Kbps, exactly a fourth of what it is supposed to be. And I have had very little luck assessing the situation. I have updated my modem, which actually fixed it for a while, about 2 weeks or so if I remember correctly. Then it went back. I haven't tried updating my router mainly because I hate to mess with that thing. I updated it once, and thats why my router firewall is disabled because I couldn't connect with it on. I am also weary of resetting the router, mainly because of the unknown.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention! I can reset my modem, and it will restore the speed I am supposed to get, but after about 24 hours, it goes back to the fractional speed...

At this point in time I can only think of a few solutions to my problem, and I am hoping you guys will be able to help me a bit... this is what I have come up with so... Read more

was always below o.44 so isp sent us a new modem but same problem, we even upgraded connection

from 2mb to 4mb but still slow, wont play any videos on youtube , or peek at cams lol without it

stopping to reload or just dont buffer, i noticed that the enet light on modem when this happens the

majority of the time, flickers fast and when youtube stops or cant load a page n get time out error the

enet is actually out, comes back on sometimes if i refresh a few times, this seems to be an intermitent

fault because yesterday it was great and now today back to the off/on/off/on, even like last night for

example, enet light was on constant but cud hardly load a page without page timing out, is this a fault

down to my isp ?? who says it isnt but their crap, or a fault on my puter somewhere ?? ive recently

re-installed XP PRO and downloaded Attansic L1 gigabit ethernet adaptor so i could get online

because my pc wudnt run isp disc, could it be the adaptor at fault ??
im at a loss grrr! 3 kids and a wife on my back because they cant get on msn! Please Help!!
P.S. ive done the basic checks like: rebooting modem : checking if any other programs runnin : d/c

wireless router : deleting temp files & defrag : disc clean up : etc etc

I have Verizon FiOS and I have the 5 mbps/2 mbps package. For some reason, my internet has been going really slow today:

It also rapidly changes every time I do a speed test.

If anyone could tell me what's wrong, that would be great.

Hi,

There may be a simple answer to this question. Our company LAN is separated into two office, the second office seems to have a slower service when accessing the internet to a point where its like waiting for the grass too grow.

Each office has its own server, a Linksys WAG54G router on ADSL 2 connection.

Any thoughts

Answer:Internet connection slow

Are you getting slow LAN or slow WAN or both.. WAN is your internet and the LAN is your office network.

How many nodes (systems) are you using in each office?
I take it you have a mixed environment both wired and wireless systems.

Seems to be a mix review on this item you're using in your office.

I think I have hijackers. I'm not very good with hjt and I have a 64 bit processor, so there is no virus protection for my machine. I don't know what's going on, internet used to be fast, real fast, now most of the time my browser will time out. This happens with firefox, and IE both the 32 and 64 bit versions. Here is my HJT log, I guaruntee, there needs to be a lot of deleting, help me to know which ones.
Thanks
