YouTube So slow on Slow Internet connection. ANYTHING left?

Question: YouTube So slow on Slow Internet connection. ANYTHING left?

Hi. How are you? I am coming here because I'm going to attempt one more time. And then I'm going to call it a lost cause.I have aDell Latitude computer running windows 7. I have Google Chrome as my default browser. It is the easiest to get around in for me, and has tools for all of these popups that are in exitance. I have a question that I doubt has any real good answers, or any answer that is going to help, but I will go ahead and waiste these next few minutes just to see what happens. I LOVE YouTube. But YouTube I think is at the end of its time with me. I now have moved to a place that has a slightly slower speed and It is using Windstream. I now have PROFOUND problems browsing youtube because it is PROFOUNDLY SLOW.

REALLL slow. I have a question. Does anybody know of something in existance that would make it faster? I've checked my computer for bugs. NONE to be found. Cleaned it up. I've got ReadyBoost Activated, and I'm using chrome. Any suggestions or tools that would allow me to browse Youtube, and do all of the functions/features involved in YouTube like the PlayList Abilities such as AutoPlay and Auto-Repeat? ANYTHING? Oh, I Defragmented it too. And deleted other programs that I wanted to delete. Still profoundly slow. Internet Explorer isn't happening. BAAAAAD IDEA. Tried it. We're talking about Taking the definition of Profoundly slow to new and dangerous levels. Thank you very much. Sorry for waisting your time, and God Bless.

Preferred Solution: YouTube So slow on Slow Internet connection. ANYTHING left?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have a Dell 5558 Inspiron.  the internet is very slow to load.  My wife has a macbook pro that runs circles around my PC for web browsing.  I have tried various tricks to minimize startup functions and background apps.  is this a hardware issue that can be upgraded?  would upgrading the GPU, upgrading to SSD, or adding more RAM help?

Answer:slow internet loading, slow youtube response: Dell 5558

also, this unit has an intel AC-3160 wifi card.  can this be upgraded or adjusted to work better?

Hi all,
I have 2 computers, a Dell laptop and a Dell Desktop, they are recently new, have been working fine, they both have Vista. Just as of late last night the internet connections have been poor, either not connecting at all or slow. I have AVG 8.0 but it has not found any viruses....any help would be appreciated. thanks,

Answer:Solved: Internet connection slow, downloading slow

Hi Dano.
Are both pc's hardwired or one wireless through your router?
Are both slow at the same time?
Have you tried eliminating the router and hardwiring one pc directly through the modem.(will require a power on reset of the modem)?

Do a speed check
www.speakeasy.net/speedcheck
Any recent hardware/software changes?
Any error msgs ?

Is this cable or DSL?
Knowing some of these things will assist the techs here to delve further into the problem.

Hello, i'll be grateful if you could help us with a problem that we are having with our laptops at home. Let me to explain you, my wife have his own laptop at home, as I have mine laptop too, both of the computers share a wi-fi internet conection. I'm not sure of what's going on but the internet conection it's extremely slowly, sometimes when we reboot our laptops there is no internet conection. According to our ISP there's no problem with the internet conection, they said it could be something with the laptops.

Now, It's true that the two laptops are more slowly, specially my wife's laptop, it takes too long for any processes, I always take a look to the running processes and it seems like there are too much process always but I'm not sure of what is good and whats isn't.

I decided to attach The HiJack log from my wife's laptop, maybe with this you could help us to figure out what's going on.

Thanks for your time!

Hello

I've been noticing a slower than normal connection/download speeds for youtube videos. All other file and video streaming sites and file downloads use my full bandwidth speed while youtube sometimes streams at half or less my full bandwidth speed. I use youtube's stats for nerds connection speed and task manager for my readings.

Things I've noticed with youtube:
1. The more youtube videos I watch the slower/lower the connection speed is for youtube videos. I don't have this problem with other sites.
2. Deleting the cookies for google.com and youtube.com along with the temporary internet files doesn't restore full connection speed.
3. A larger file cache is used when you select your quality manually vs auto with the same quality.

Things I have changed in windows:
1. Change Maximum Download Connections per Server Limit in Internet Explorer is set to 16 in group policy.
2. Limit reserved bandwidth is set to On and 0% in group policy.
3. Internet explorer data space to use is set to 1024MB.

Thanks

Answer:Youtube slow connection speed IE11

It looks like deleting the google and youtube cookies and temporary internet files doesn't restore full connection speed to youtube videos.

After some further troubleshooting I found that it's either youtube or my isp(TWC) throttling down the connection speed for youtube streaming. I've also tried openDNS and a youtube faster connection trick, but neither did anything. Connection speeds can go as low as 1/3rd of my internet bandwidth when starting to watch a video even though speed tests show correct speeds.

Other things I should try?
1. Reset ie 11. My guess is this would do nothing as other video stream services like amazon prime and other video sites don't have this problem.
2. Install google chrome to compare it to ie 11?

Just recently started to notice the speed of my connection has greatly slowed down! I am on a desktop PC that is using a linksys wireless USB adapter to connect to my router. I looked at the speed and it was like 18mbps when it used to be like 54mbps. Now my laptop on the other hand if i have it right where i have the same desktop pc connects to the router and receives a speed of 54mbps. Whats going on here? why did my desktop pc suddenly get slower? Its prolly just a coincidence but right after I installed frostwire it seemed like thats when it got slower. (no frostwire isnt running and thats not why it seems like my connection is slower). But there isnt really a way that an application could cause my actual connection speed to slow down is there? The only thing that i can think of is that my linksys wireless usb adapter is going bad or something? does anyone have any ideas, or suggestions on what is going on here??

sorry, if this not the right place please move. I did many google searches cant seem to find the issue Im having, or maybe lack of the right key searches. You guys are my last hope.
I will try to explain my problem as clearly as I can. And so sorry about my bad grammar and spelling, trying to post this asap.

first off give small history of my PC. I bought my PC new Sept 2001. A HP Pavilion with 1.3 ghz, 256ram, and a 55gig hard-drive originally came with WinMe, since then I upgraded to XP. I kept my PC case clean, didn't try to install programs my PC couldn't handle, didn't go to any sites that knew were bad with viruses and such also had Malwareytes/spybot/avast/hijackthis to use, didnt install any toolbars, and tried not to have many programs open at the same time. I basically kept my PC simple with use.

Anyways around June I noticed some odd slowdowns
While playing Winamp and running a torrent with speeds of more than 400+ the audio would become choppy. This also happen when I would open FF, IE or any program while running Winamp, the audio would be choppy.

Extracting 700mb files from Winrar would take around 8mins

Playing Youtube, WMP, of VLC videos would be slow and choppy.

Transferring files from one PC to another over a crossover cable would take much longer. 4gigs of files would take about 20mins or so.

Virus scanners, Avast, Malwarebytes, and Spybot would also take much longer than usual.

So, about 2 weeks ago while my brother was on Youtube my... Read more

Could someone please help me?

My ISP is Videotron (I live in Quebec), and I have a D-LINK DIR-615 Wireless N. My internet connection is just over 10 megabits per second, averaging a download speed of 1150 kilobytes per second, which remains unchanged, (multiple speed tests, downloads and torrents).

About a month ago, when watching videos on YouTube, they started streaming at extremely low speeds, making videos that used to finished streaming in seconds completely unwatchable.

I have restarted my router, modem, Anti-Virus (with firewall - Kaspersky Internet Security 2010) and computer several times and it didn't help. The only thing that did help was plugging my computer directly into the modem, which returned the speeds to normal.

However, I have 3 friends, all of which have Videotron, but not D-LINK routers, experiencing the same problem. Videotron does not throttle, and I have not changed computers, routers, modems, operating systems, virus protection software or internet browser since long before the problem began.

Please help, I feel like I have a dial-up connection.

I recently recovered my PC after getting that data hijack virus (The one that ransoms a code to restore all your pictures/videos, etc for a price)

My internet still works on this PC, but it's running slightly slower than usual, basically like windows Explorer (lol).
But mainly videos via youtube constantly receive the "An error occurred, please try again later. Learn more." message.

It can SOMETIMES be bypassed if I set the video's settings to the lowest and refresh, to which the video will play.

I know this is not my internet, since my other PC and laptop are running off the same internet, and not running into the same problem.

So any tips?

Thank you for taking the time to read my request.

I purchased an HP entertainment laptop (windows vista os) about a year ago and I started experiencing problems with my speed a couple of months ago.

Most recently, I've experienced the following:

1. Slower speed surfing the net
2. Slow to open up an Internet Window (about 8 seconds)
3. Can not browse internet at the same time that an anti virus program is turned on (to monitor). Has occured with Norton and Trend Micro.
4. Can no longer access I-Tunes store or Rhapsody store when I open the applications.
5. You Tube videos are stop and go instead of running fluidly.

All of this is new behavior for my laptop...

Any ideas on what may be happening or what I should try to do next? I downloaded hijackthis, so I have that software program on my computer.

If anyone is willing to help, I would greatly appreciate it! Please let me know if you need additional information.

Many thanks in advance!

I've had my computer for about 3 years, a Dell Dimension 4700,Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 3. Lately it's been running a lot slower than it used to. I can't seem to figure out what's causing my computer to be slow. My fan inside my tower has been louder and my tower has been making louder noises. When opening "My Computer" it takes about 2 minute to load, and Microsoft Word freezes more often now.

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

I'm having problems regarding my wireless internet. First off, we've got two computers, one upstairs which uses a regular modem, and this one downstairs which gets its internet connection through a router upstairs.

Now, from my computer upstairs, the internet works flawlessly throughout of the day. This downstairs computer, its internet connection is...to put it mildly, crap, depending on the time of day. Speed always seems to go real slow at around the same time each day, around 2pm, around 4pm and again around 7pm. It seems to get back on track around 9-10pm, which is right now.

The funny thing is that it says connection is 'excellent' or 'very good'. Here's an example. It's the same scenario whether internet connection is actually very very slow or at normal speed.

I have no idea why, and I'd be really grateful if anyone can help me out. Tips or remedies on what I can do, because it's very frustrating!

Thank you.

Router: Edimax BR-604 WG

Answer:Very slow internet connection though status shows connection is 'excellent'

How the computer downstairs connected to the internet? I guessing your modem is upstairs?

I don't get what's wrong with this computer. Almost everyday it acts slow, it takes about 2 minutes to login to a page. Some days it will act fast and other days it won't and it's annoying, especially when I have to use the internet to research! It's even acting worse than a 56k modem. I've done a spyware check with spyweeper and it finds adware sometimes and I delete them, but it doesn't seem to have an affect on the speed. Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be and how to fix it. Also I have a very old cable modem, I've had it since 2002 I believe. It's a Surfboard SB4100 Cable Modem.

Answer:Help! Slow Computer, Slow Internet. Slow, Slow, Slow!

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

I have a problem with my Dell 9100 connection to the internet being very slow. I have been working with the folks on the malware forum through the following thread:

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=132309

We did not find any malware and have cleaned up a number of things. for internal activity, the machine does seem faster. However, when I run a speed test at "http://www.speedtest.net/" the results I get for this computer are quite slow (280 kbps upload, it won't even check download it is so slow). Our older Dell 8250 is also connected through the same router and when I perform the same speed test on it, it is what I expect ( 6 Mbps download and 350 kbps upload ). One of the links that I was sent to had RegistryBooster on it and I ran that, misunderstanding that was not the intent of the link, and it says that there are 500+ issues. I don;t know if this is the problem or not, or just what the problem may be. However, it is extremely frustrating to have the more powerful computer being the slow dog. Any thoughts on what to check and what can be wrong. We have just swapped, or are in the process of swapping, over to Comcast. It is hard to tell just where we are in the changeover from TimeWarner to Comcast. Is that the problem and if so, why dominant on this one machine>

Answer:Slow PC Connection to Internet

First- be careful with registry cleaners/optimizers. If the wrong thing is 'cleaned' from the registry, you may end up with much more serious problems. Be sure to make a backup of the reg before cleaning. Many folks here at MajorGeeks (myself included) recommend either CCleaner or Wise Registry Cleaner for registry cleaning. Both have proven to be safe and both have the option to make a backup before cleaning anything. Besides- I don't think the registry is your problem. If one PC surfs fine, and the other doesn't, it's the PC. Visit the Dell website, go to their drivers page, enter your service tag number (it's on a sticker on the side or back of the PC; it looks like this: 1DWG65X7) and download the newest drivers for your ethernet adapter and for the chipset. Go into the device manager and remove the current ethernet adapter (it's under Network Adapters). Then install the chipset software and reboot. Then install the new ethernet driver you just downloaded and reboot. Now see if that helps your connection. If not, post again and we'll go to step 2 Good Luck!!!

Hi,

I've been having problems with really slow internet connection over the past few day (it's been as low as 68kbps) and I've contacted virgin media about it and thus far they have been useless. I've tried everything they suggested: bought a new router, changed to a corded telephone and restarted my laptop but none of it has worked!! They now suggest that I get a new IP address. Does anyone know if this will help at all and if so how I change it?

Any advice/help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Hey there! I've created this thread to find out why my internet is agonizingly slow. I was playing LoL when my ping jumped from 70 to a whopping 1k, and continued to go up and up until it reached 4k. This was a few hours ago and I am still very laggy. There's about a 6 to 8 second delay in my skype calls and it takes a while for any webpages to load. I've tried skyping on my phone and I still have that same horrifying lag. I haven't had such slow internet for years so I was wondering if there is a way to tell what is causing this? I hope I am not being DDOSed and I doubt that I am but would someone please be able to help me?

I'm using windows 7 and my wifi is wireless but it's only a few metres from my computer so I have no idea what's going on. I've talked to a few of my friends who use the same internet company as myself and they said that their internet is fine so is it my router? Also recently my internet has been cutting out every 40 minutes or so and it gets quite annoying (it'll come up with that red cross thing or the yellow star and after a few minutes it will eventually reconnect). I'm absolutely terrible when it comes to anything about computers or technology in general so any help would be wonderful! Please tell me if I am not being specific enough and I will try my best to explain in a way that you can understand, hopefully without sounding like an idiot. Aside from when my internet cuts out, it's saying I h... Read more

Answer:Slow internet connection

try doing a power cycle - see below
As its the same on another device connected to the router - its likely to be the router/modem or line
Ask the ISP to do a line test

------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to power cycle

?power cycle? process to reboot or reset the modem/router

Switch off all the devices modem, router and computers also unplug their power cables.
Wait at least 1 to 5 minutes. We have found in some instances you need to wait at least 15 minutes
Plug the power cords back in, but don?t switch them on.
First turn on the modem and then wait for a few minutes for it to settle and all the lights to become stable.
Next switch on the router (if a separate device) and then wait for a few minutes for it to settle and all the lights to become stable.
Now turn on your computer, You should now be able to access the Internet.

TCP YOUR-47375C5FC1:1026 YOUR-47375C5FC1:0

I called my Internet provider because my connection is way too slow. They ran a netstat application in my command prompt. It reflected that this code TCP YOUR-47375C5FC1:1026 YOUR-47375C5FC1:0 was "listening" to my computer and causing my connection to be slowed down. I tried a registry cleaner, and that didn't work. The tech from the Internet provider mentioned that something, maybe in my start-up program, is running in the background and not shutting off.
Does anyone know how to fix this? If so, can you give me an idiot's guide? I'm clearly not as savvy as you folks are. I need to be walked through.
Thanks a million.

I completed the xp cleaning procedure and still have an unreliable internet connection. My cable provider says the connection is fine so I'm thinking it may be malware that is causing it. I couldn't save the AVG antispyware log, but here are the other two.
Thankyou for your time,

Answer:Slow internet connection

You have a few minor things to fix in your HJT log but nothing that would cause connections issues.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

I've been having a slow internet connection (using Safari AND Firefox) for a few months and I've reseached online and tried all the suggestions but nothing has changed. I upgraded my service (cable modem), bought a new modem/router, ran virus check, changed my MTU, even signed up for OpenDNS. Nothing seems to be helping...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:slow connection to the internet

You haven't mentioned if you are running a 'stand alone' modem or a cable tv settop box, if it's the latter, try switch the box off for a minute, then back on and see if this clears the problem.

I have a new Microsoft Wired Router, new D Link Switch, and new Cat 5 cables. I have 6 computer connected to them. Some of the time when I try to connect to the internet it runs like a 14.4 modem. I have a 1.5Mbs cable connection. I know that cable speed depends on how many people are the same node and are online and that sharing slow down the connection, what I don't understand is why its still that slow when I am the only one on the network using the internet.

I have windows 2000 pro installed. Do you think this is a software confiuration problem or maybe a network problem?

Answer:Slow internet connection though LAN

Too many variables. If you're the only one actually using the Internet, my guess is you're having cable or ISP problems, not network issues. If you can connect to other machines at normal bandwidth, it's unlikely to be your problem.

Hi,

Wasnt sure where post this but I really need help.. Well the story told.

Around 5 days ago I was getting lag on all my pc games... Each day it got worse and worse. Till the current day now where it takes like 5 miniutes to load google or even more or sometimes nothing loads. Cant get internet at all on my laptop no more!

I have contacted Virgin Media and for about 2 days it was. Sir please turn your modem off for 10 seconds reconnect all cables bla bla. Then when they said is your internet working and I say yes. They seem to think the problem was fixed... Hard to explain the problem over the phone to people who aint english... anyway my Dad soon said we want to cancel unless we speak to someone who knows what there on about. So finally we got someone who was still clueless. But then he said to me go my modem settings. Then 20 mins in the call he asked me read out my modem upstream which looks like this:

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 3
Upstream Frequency : 37504000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QAM16
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 37.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

He said 37 is way to high and this is the problem. He then said it should be fixed in few days and that all he could say :S... My mate cross the road is on Virgin Media his is fine.. Virgin Media are clueless and just say turn your modem off. Or it all fine there end so its my (problem) I dont see how that is im sure everything fine here. As they ... Read more

Alright, I have been struggling with this problem for about 4 months now, all other websites want me to run a line connection test when I can't understand why I can tell them everything they need to know already... Anyway...

I am running SBC Global DSL, rated at 1.5K Kbps. My modem model is a Speedstream 5100 with firmware version 1.0.0.53. From my modem it runs into my Linksys WRT54G Wireless router with firmware 4.30.5. The router firewall router is disabled.

So here is my situation, as I previously stated, my connection that I am paying for is supposed to be 1.5K Kbps. Then for what ever reason the connection slumps down to around 384 Kbps, exactly a fourth of what it is supposed to be. And I have had very little luck assessing the situation. I have updated my modem, which actually fixed it for a while, about 2 weeks or so if I remember correctly. Then it went back. I haven't tried updating my router mainly because I hate to mess with that thing. I updated it once, and thats why my router firewall is disabled because I couldn't connect with it on. I am also weary of resetting the router, mainly because of the unknown.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention! I can reset my modem, and it will restore the speed I am supposed to get, but after about 24 hours, it goes back to the fractional speed...

At this point in time I can only think of a few solutions to my problem, and I am hoping you guys will be able to help me a bit... this is what I have come up with so... Read more

I have a computer running ME which was giving problems connecting to the internet, though not email. This pointed to a Winsock problem but I couldn't find the corrupted file responsible so I sidelined that version of Windows and Program Files by renaming their folders and installed ME again, effectively a new installation. However, although I can get a connection to the ISP at 45K very easily I find it a struggle to get a decent connection to the internet, it taking some seven or eight minutes to receive or send 2500 Bytes and then sometimes coming to life but not always. Has anyone any ideas?

I've been suffering from a slow internet connect for the last 3-4 days I have Vista Home (Crappy OS) and the only programs I've installed within that time period is firefox (installed yesterday), the gimp (needed a better picture editor), yahoo messenger, and windows live messenger. Now at first I thought it was malware however after much time and effort (slow downloads) I updated and scanned with spyware, avast, and ad aware and found absolutly nothing. Now I'm wondering could it be a rootkit that I'm not seeing? Also my OS itself operates just fine with no slow down on the local machine.

I have two laptops running Win7 Home Premium 64 bit. One laptop gets normal internet connections - both wireless & wired; the other is very slow. I have updated all network drivers on the problem laptop. (Actually, when I automatically updated the network drivers from Device Manager the drivers were indicated as up to date.)

I did a complete scan with McAfee - 0 issues.

When I booted in Safe Mode with networking, the internet connection is normal.

I have looked at the startup and processes in MSCONFIG. There is nothing suspicious - i.e. the only software is from manufacturers that I would expect based on the applications installed.

What should I do to troubleshoot this problem?

Hi,

The thing is my connection is running slow, i know it's not the connection itelf, because i have a router and the other pc works great. But in this one, msn drops every 5 minutes, and IE works slow, it's as if its stops every once in a while completly and then it works again but really slow.

What really concerns me, is that there are moments in wich everything stops, i can't move the mouse, the music stops and everything stads still for a couple seconds.

Before the logs,i read the thread about p2p after doing the logs, if you dont have any serious police against them, i would want to keep them. Even if right now doesn't seem like it, i'm a responsible user, not a very legal one, but responsible. Just music, no exe's or games...
What i'm culprit of doing, is downloading pre craked games from direct links, wich i already stop doing...

I know mi antivirus needs update, but its just a cuple days old and right now i have no way of downloading me update.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me , and i'm very sorry for any mistakes with my english... And for any part in the scan in spanish too.

I'll try to be as specific as possible, to try to avoid too many follow-up questions.

I have a relatively new HP laptop (January 2007) model dv9000 with dual 1.6ghz cpus, 2 gb ram, and dual 80 gb hard drives, and recently installed Vista.

I live in a university dorm and my internet connection has been sliggish for about a month, for me only. My roomate's and neighbors' internet has been fast. This includes the wireless connection and the wired connection. the connection speed did not improve or get worse after the installation of windows vista about a week ago.

I have done virus scans and spyware etc. btw i do NOT have norton, which gave me slow connections on my old comp, i'm using AVG for virus and spyware

Are there any settings that would be interfering with the speed of the connection?

thanks.

Answer:slow internet connection

Is your connection slow while using wireless and a hard wire LAN connection? If not, try connecting directly into a network port on a wall or something and see if that helps. Also, does your school use a VPN network, where they make you put in your student ID and such. If so, try unisntalling and reinstall the VPN software.

Hello,

I've had this PC for over 5 years, and it's steadily slowing down on me. Booting up takes a while. Starting Firefox takes a while. Running Rhapsody's music player is a nightmare. My 1 Gig of RAM is whittled down to less than 250 available almost immediately upon booting up. And now, over the past few weeks, streaming anything on the interweb is a pointless endeavor. My DSL connection had been checked and rechecked by those guys at least 4 times over the past 2 months. They say the lines are running fast. The tech guy today even brought in his laptop and showed me how good the connection should be running. It boils down to my PC. TSG is my last ditch effort to avoid buying a new PC. HI friends,

I am so frustrated! I live in a very small town where internet service choices are slim to none. One is Charter the other is Centurylink. Well I was with Charter and had all kinds of problems with them. Sorry if this hurts someoones feelings but it is true. So I switched over to Centurylink.Well I like the service of centurylink and wow my computer is more slow with their 1.5 then I had with Charter with just .1.0MBS.

So I contact Century link and so they have me run this test and I am not getting all of my 1.5 I am just getting 1.28. Hello! I at least had all of my 1.0MB.

Is this true, "Is cable Internet better then Ethernet"?

Or is there something I do not know about making the internet faster?

Thanks for any wisdom here.

I am on Online uk Opensurf and I find that it takes 3 or 4 times to connect and is very slow (33bps)when connected. It quite often breaks the connection - it is very frustrating. If I switch to their pay as you go or over to Freeserve it connects first time and I get 45 bsi (Broadband is not available in my area). The opensurf fee is up for renewal in August 03. Any suggestions on where I can get a reliable fast Internet provider

Hi there. What we are experiencing is frequent very slow internet connection and occasional pop up ads. We have an emachines T3985 with 340 Celeron processor, running windows xp and have 3.0 DSL through a speedstream modem. We do use a wireless router (Lynksys 2.4 Ghz Wireless-G) for the laptop but even when the router is disconnected still the same slowness issue. The hijacklog *seems* ok to me, but I am definitely not an expert So wondering if we downloaded something that is causing this. Thank you very much.

Hello I am new to this forum. Nice to meet you guys.

I was on the original post from 18th of jan. named:
Very slow internet connection

link: http://forums.techguy.org/networking/672824-very-slow-internet-connection.html

But for some reason it was closed and don't see an exact solution to the poster's prob.

We have this problem with 2 stations at our work place. They run off a domain server,
and the thing i've noticed since i've been fighting with the computers all day is that
with the speedtest's, one is downloading @ 0.07 mbps, the other runs normal 6.00+ mbps which
is what is garanteed by our ISP.

But the station running 6.00mbps, is failing the upload test, it is timing out.
The 0.07mpbs station is running the garanteed 0.60mpbs upload speed tho.

I was asking myself if this could be some sort of colision problem, as one machine is
downloading fine, when the other is not, and vise versa on the upload part.

So far, we've run RegPro on both machine, which found over 1000+ errors, fixed, and
still no improvments. Also Malware bytes. Spybot S&D.

The station unable to upload cannot send attachements with emails, as it times out
after a couple of minutes. And also, internally, I usually scan documents from the
office scanner, into a network partition intended for those documents, it has never
had any problems before but for some reason it doesnt let me write new files.

If i'm not mistaken, the server machine is used as a domain,... Read more

just like the title says im getting really slow internet on wired connection, so I reinstalled xp sp3 on my almost 5 year old computer, but oddly after the reinstallation the situation remains, for example it takes FOREVER to get to facebook, most of the time it would just say "network timeout" and that is not just limited to facebook but every site including google, also my steam icons in my friends list wont even show up. this is really strange. I also tried of course uninstalling/reinstalling the network driver, repairing the connection in xp, reset my router and modem and switching around with multiple Ethernet cables but nothing seems to be working for me...
I am sure that it is not my router's fault because i have 3 other computers(wired&wireless) attached to my router and they all work just fine.
please help me out here guys i ran out of ideas. thanks in advance.

I had the same problem once, I found out that it was some kind of worm who was messing with my network connection. Run a virus scan and if that won't help then I don't know what else you should do, it could be something with the motherboard, some glitch maybe, or it's just getting too old.

Answer:slow internet connection

hi vdoyle,

Can you try to:
1. Open Device Manager > Network Adapters > right click on the LAN adapter (i.e. Realtek RTL8111F) > chooose Properties and uncheck "allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" under the Power Management Tab.

2. Do a speed test (i.e. via www.speedtest.net) and compare the results to your other machine or to your internet plan.
3. If there's no improvement, boot the computer in Safe Mode with Networking and try running speedtest again (this will isolate 3rd party softwares that might be interfering with the internet connection)

Let me know your findings,

This has got me tearing my hair out...and I hope someone here can give me some guidance on sorting this out.

Been running Vista x64 for a while with no problems at all ( yes...honestly!!! ) with a Quad Core and 4Gb ram and an internet connection that was as good as I was expecting. A few months back, though, things went downhill very suddenly!

Now, it takes 20 minutes plus just to open some websites, and download speeds have dropped to virtually nothing. I am talking dialup speeds on a 2Mb line.

Model is a Belkin wireless router, but I am connected to it by cable since the PC is right by the phone line. I have 2 other PC's in the house ( both running XP wirelessly ) One is temporarily offline due to other issues... but the other is connecting normally with no speed problems.

I have done the 'google' thing, and disabled the auto-tuning facility, with no noticable improvements.

Contacting my ISP was a waste of time. So much so, in fact, that I am going to change ISP at the end of the month.

I was told:

1) Try another computer....yeah...thanks
2) Buy a new modem ... bit early to jump to that conclusion
3) There was nothing wrong...and no I don't have a supervisor you can talk to...
4) Just restart your modem and call us back.
5) Someone else is using your network connection

That was the best they could manage. I am no expert when it comes to networking, but I can figure out a few things:

a) Virus check has been done, with latest virus definitions. Adware ... Read more

I need some help with my laptops internet connection. It's an older Dell Inspiron with an external Linksys wireless-g usb adapter which connects to my desktop. A few days ago all of a sudden I could't logon to my homepage at all (SBC Yahoo DSL). After several attempts to trouble shoot my connection it didn't get much better. FYI the desktop that the laptop is connected to with the Linksys adapter works just fine. I have uninstalled the software for Yahoo and am trying to use Firefox to get on the web which I can now do but the connection is very very slow still. In the connection section of the control panel it has a dial up connection selected as the default I'm not sure if that is correct of not. I'm not sure what to do now. Any help or info would be very much apreciated, as you can tell by my post I'm not very "computer savy".

Thaks for any help.

I have Vista x64 Ultimate and I'm having internet connection issues. My laptop is the HP Pavillion dv7. My ISP tells me everything is fine on his end.

I have a router (Linksys model BEFW11S4) 2.4 Ghz - 802.11b.

When I connect the wire from my modem directly to my laptop, I get internet speeds of 900 Kbps. But when I use the router, the speed goes down to 300 Kbps.

Is there a setting in Vista that could be doing this? According to Linksys, I should be able to attain 900 Kbps with the router.

The laptop comes with a wireless adapter (Intel Wi-Fi Link 5100AGN).

Help !

Answer:Slow internet connection

hmm. Well i would personally first do this. Right click on your the internet window (the one with the globe) and select network and sharing center. Then click on Manage Network connections and then right click on one of the two connections (only one should give you this choice to my knowledge) and hit properties. From there youll see a list of things that are checked and just uncheck the QOS packet scheduler. That sets aside 20% of your bandwidth for microsoft updates etc. I hope that helps!

Hi all

I am getting a very slow internet connection. Sometimes in the morning I get 6Mb/s, but more typicaly it's 0.1 Mb/s even when other machines on LAN connect at 4Mb/s

I have tried to be methodical about identifying root cause, but am now stumped

ISP

My other machines still connect at acceptable speeds.

Virus

My anti-virus software (Avast) is upto date and I have scanned the PC - All clean

Software

Have booted into safe mode, the problem still occurs.

Router

I have a Zyxel P600 with wireless. All of the other machines on my home LAN all run at 4+Mbs.

The router isn't Windows 7 certified. Does this make a difference? It always worked fine with Vista.

NIC

I have a intel(r) 82566dm-2 gigabit on-board connection, which I have updated to the latest driver from Intel.

There is some sort of problem here, because it keeps disconneting every 3 minutes or so, despite passing self tests. This may be the issue, however even if it doesn't drop for 5 minutes the slowness persists.

Windows Network

I get strange network map. Sometimes, it's Network1.png, which looks fine more usualy it's Network2.png, which looks like I connect using my Vista PC, which I don't. I've put this down to Microsoft oddness.

Any help very welcome

I got a 8meg wireless connection using my desktop computer but I have a problem when moving the computer downstairs to use on the HDTV. When upstairs the speed test shows between 6-7meg but when moved downstairs it takes about 5mins to even open a single web page. The signal is still around 40-50% when downstairs but I've never had a problem until yesterday, I've still been getting good speeds. Anyone know why this may be happening?

Answer:Slow Internet Connection

If the problem only recently started, then you should look to the obvious factors- what has changed recently to cause this? Such things an include a new driver update, a windows Update for some other software, an updated firewall, and changed settings for your wireless card.

I have Insigtht broad band internet hooked up to two computers with a wired router. A while back it started running slow. I ran some speed tests on the internet and they showed download speeds around 3800 kbs and upload speed of 17kbs. If I unhook the router, I get the same down but the upload goes up to 400kbs. I have had Insight check out the connection and they say everything is ok, so it must be the router. I replaced the router and got the same thing. Called Linksys and they had me download a firmware update and changed the mtu to manual and 1400. No change. I replaced the modem and that didn't help. I have tried TCP optimizer and no help. The computer runs great without the router but like crap with it. Neither computer will run very fast with the router connected. I am at a loss as to what to try next. I really need some help.

A few days ago my interent connection became real slow i mean like 5m to load the google.com main page, did virus/malware/spyware check all came back clean, tried sys restore but it didnt work(as usaul) tried updating drivers and all still no go, the odd thing is that i play wow and ffxi which to my surprise runs just fine no lag or anything, what am i missing? ?? i cant think of another thing to do, i havent d/l or installed anything in the last few months so i dont think its a software problem and my other computer that runs on the same router is just fine which tells me its prolly not the router or modem, whatever you guys can think of i would appreciate it ty in adavance!

Answer:Slow internet connection

Well, you've eliminated quite a few possibilities:

1. Games don't lag> r/o heat and RAM
2. Other system on same router don't lag so not likely the ISP
3. No new installs- that you know of!
4. Specific to this computer- definite start date, not fixed by system restore.
5. You mention slow to load home page> have you added any processes to the Startup?

Take a look and see what's starting on boot:
Start> Run> type in msconfig> enter> Selective Startup> Startup Menu> UNCHECK everything EXCEPT the AV, third party firewall if you have one and touchpad for laptop if on laptop.
Apply> OK.

Reboot the computer. NOTE: you will get a nag message on first boot after making the changes. Ignore and close after checking 'don't show this message again.' Stay in Selective Startup.

While you're got the Startup menu up, see if there are any processes checked that you don't recognize. If there are, do a Google search to identify.

Let me know.

My computer's hardrive crashed and I replaced it with my old computer's hardrive that had a virus in it. I got rid of the viruses (I think) by using antivirus programs: Nortons, Malwarebytes, and Regcure. It worked for a while, but everything was slow. Now its slow and the internet connection is not working very well. It connects, but only sends and receives about 93 and 67. I also have drive robot to help me recover drivers.

Answer:bad internet connection and slow

Format and reinstall, that way your virus free and your reg is all nice and clean.

If you're unsure how to do this then you can follow this guide.

Hi

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but here it goes.

I have an ADSL 2Mbps connection and in the past week its speed is about 30kbps or less, sometimes I don't even get a response from websites. But my upload speed stays at a constant 200kpbs.

My ISP says that from their end everything is ok.

I thought at first it was spyware or a virus but Iíve checked with several programs and my pc is clean.

My modem is connected to a router which its connected to my computer and another, both computers show the same slowdown, I've tried connecting the modem directly to my computer with no change.

I've also tried connecting the modem directly to the phone jack that comes form outside, this time there was a change I started getting full speed but in a matter of seconds it went back down.

And if this is the wrong place to ask this please tell me where can I find a solution to this problem?

Answer:really slow internet connection

When the ISP says everything is okay from their end what speeds are they getting to the modem?

Since its DSL I'ld have them come and check your home phone wiring and look at the modem.

My bet is either a defective modem or something with the wiring. You have eliminated it being PCc related bay having the same symptoms on 2 PC's and you eliminated it being a router issue by removing the router.

Hi,

within a short time of "sharing" a social media website posting, I noticed my browser taking longer and longer to find web sites. A few days later I could no longer stream music from a radio station. what got my attention was when I my laptop off and closed, yet the power and disk drive LED lights indicated activity. I went to my event log, and while researching "blindDial" via google, I came across this web site. I tend to be a "do it yourself" person, but this is over my head and the more I read the posts here, the better I felt about asking for your help.

I recently .. relocated. I wanted to go with Comcast but after talking with a few friends, I found that sharing bandwidth with neighbors was not a good idea..

So I got DSL with Bellsouth. My internet speeds have been unusually slow. I should be recieving speeds.. up to.. 1.5 mbps. To make matters worse, my speeds were consistantly at the lowest acceptable speeds for my service..~780 kbps down, ~120 kbps up! Bellsouth tried and tried to help me, but were unsuccessful!

I have tried their optimization tool. No use. I am at a loss at how to fix this, getting cable, or sticking with DSL.

Answer:Slow Internet Connection

Oh yes, I do not have any viruses on my computer and the programs installed are minimal. I used the same computer, same settings at my old house with no connectivity issues. I was getting the full 1.5 at my old house.. ahh good days.

I have a perenial problem - a slow internet connection, seems to have got slower over time, I can work with fewer windows open than in the past. I'd be grateful for some tips on increasing the speed.

Specifically, my connection time is slow; I spend a few seconds (a good few seconds) with the words "Waiting to connect..." or "Waiting for site (address)" displaying in some window or the other on my screen every time I click a link.

I typically use Internet Explorer.

I have additional data: the download rate is OK: should be (advertised) 2.1Mbps, currently 1.5Mbps (www.Speedtest.net, www.BroadbandSpeedChecker.co.uk, and ftp data download of ~400MBytes agree), upload is about 400kbps (Speedtest, BroadbandSpeedChecker), and ping about 103ms (Speedtest), from a server it selected [which seems VERY long given that I have read ping times of 50ms and even 33ms described as 'slow'].

I'm running a single PC wired directly (well, via a filter) to the telephone network (broadband, ADSL etc.). Thomson/Alcatel Speedtouch 330 USB Modem.

I realise my 80GB HD is pretty full (of 70GB that forms the main partition, only about 9GB is free).

AVG does not detect any malware, neither does windows Defender (which at last seems to work [I have had problems with updating that which lead to an extensive discussion with microsoft and of the outcome was "the only fix is to reformat your HD"])

Can anyone offer a diagnosis and cure... Read more

Answer:Internet Connection Slow

Free up more hard drive space. Though this would not have an effect on browsing speed, it does have an effect on general windows performance.

Change the DNS so you are not using what the ISP supplies. This might be slowing you down.
Open DNS 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

http://www.opendns.com/home/fastreliable
you do not need to signup to use the DNS numbers.

Look to see what is currently shown and write then down then replace the two numbers with the above.

I have a cable modem and router and I can change mine through my router. Since you use a dsl modem/router combo, I suspect you might have to go into the dsl modem settings and change them from there.

About a week ago my internet just suddenly dropped drastically in speed. I did a speed test and I'm getting only about 5% of what I usually do on my wireless connection. I ran AVG scan and nothing came up. I'm going to call the guy who has the router (I don't know where it is) and ask him to reset it, but I want to make sure I don't have a virus or something.See anything? Thanks! Hi Guys,Anybody out there who can help. I have run Xoftspy and it comes up with an infection - Backdoor Rbot BLL Trojan.Spybot and Norton do not seem to detect it.Help...===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once ... Read more

I purchased the laptop from staples and from out of the box it was only connecting at about half the speed of my other devices.  I called my ISP to come out and look and they said everything was fine on my interenet.  I live in the country and only get 6Mbps anyway but my older HP laptop gets that speed as does my Surface.  The laptop would peak around 3 then slowly trickle down on the meter till it hit about 1.  I contacted online chat and they told me that it sounded like a software issue and wanted me to pay for support.  I contacted staples and they exchanged it for me.  The new one does the same exact thing.  When I am on campus with it my other devices will get well above 100Mbps and this laptop will get about 12 and then trickle down to almost nothing.  It is taking forever to download anything.  I have went in and changed the power save mode on the wireless to so that it doesn't kick into a powersave mode but that didn't to help.  Any help would be apprecaited. I love my other HP laptop but this one seems to just be an expensive paper weight at this point.
