Preferred Solution: [Error number: 0x8DDD0018] Microsoft Update not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Nevermind. I just resolved it myself. Thank you.

Recently one of my computers on a two computer network is getting the following error message:

"Error number: 0x800700C1

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem."

This computer is running XP Home, SP2, is seldom used (except as a backup system) has no other problems, has all the latest updates, has no viruses, and no spyware. Office Updates works fine. I have search the web for this error number and have not been able to find a solution. Tech support at Microsoft Updates has suggested a number of things including checking services.msc to ensure Automatic Updates and Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) are set to automatic, running the following commands: REGSVR32 MSXML3.DLL, REGSVR32 MSXML2.DLL, REGSVR32 MSXML.DLL, installing MSXML 3.0 SP5, cleaning temp files, deleting all cookies, and objects from IE.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Microsoft Update Error number: 0x800700C1

fyi...

Microsoft Update Tech Support suggested the following which fixed the problem...

Suggestion 1 Re-register the System components.

1. Click Start, Run, type: cmd and press Enter.

2. Run the following commands:

regsvr32 regwizc.dll
Regsvr32 licdll.dll

We will receive "succeeded" message if a component is registered successfully.

After that, please try to access the Windows Update site again. If the issue persists, let us try to use the System File Checker (SFC) to scan system components. Please be reassured that we can try this step safely. System File Checker checks for damaged or replaced corrupt system files. Thank you for your understanding and efforts. For your convenience, I have re-attached the steps to perform the SFC

Suggestion 2 Use the System File Checker (SFC) to scan system components.

1. Insert the Windows XP installation CD into the CD-ROM; Click Exit if the auto-menu pops up.

2. Click Start, click Run, type: cmd and press Enter.

3. Input the following commands and press Enter after each line.

sfc /purgecache

sfc /scannow

Note: There is a SPACE between "SFC" and "/Scannow", "/Purgecache", and this command will take several minutes to complete and may require access to the Windows installation source files.

After trying above steps, let?s try to access the Windows Update site again.

Hi,

Posted this another Windows forum but was advise to post here.

Here's my problem:
I know this has been posted several times but every time I try and update my OS through Microsoft Update I get the error - Error number: 0x80190193.
All posts point to busy servers.  Fair enough but everyday all day?
My PC is part of a domain and I have always been able to update my OS as and when I see fit.  We do run WUS internally but that only pushes out the most important updates.

Is there anything I can do?

Also, my PC is part of a domain in a corporate network.  Colleagues can update their OS without issues.

Thanks,

Recently upgraded to Vista from XP. Now cannot run Windows Update manually. Also, I haven't seen the automatic update icon in the taskbar so don't think I am getting the automatic updates either. Nonetheless, Security Center says I'm OK.
I have tried two of the fixes mentioned on the Microsoft site. The first was to delete the cache in Internet Explorer. This did nothing. The second was to change the permissions in the registry. However, when I came to the final step in that process, Vista would not allow me to change the registry.
Most of the solutions I have encountered seem to reference XP rather than vista. I would appreciate help with this problem.

Thanks Dom. My mistake. There is no problem. I need to lose my bad XP habits. Both your solutions worked well for me.

In the past week I have tried to update Windows XP and keep getting the following error message. I have repeatedly followed the instructions below but still cannot update Windows XP. I tried system restore with no luck. I have requested Microsoft online assisted support with no reply. Can you help me with this problem? Thank you.
[Error number: 0x8DDD0018]
Windows Update cannot continue because a required service application is disabled. Windows Update requires the following services:
Automatic Updates enables detection, downloading, and installation of critical updates for your computer.
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) enables faster, restartable downloading of updates.
Event Log logs Windows Update events for troubleshooting. To ensure that these services are enabled:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type services.msc and then click OK.
3. In the list of services, right-click the service name, and then click Properties.
4. In the Startup type list, select Automatic.
5. Verify that the service status is started.

If this does not resolve the problem you may request help from one of the following resources.

Greetings,

I am using Windows XP SP3. On shutdown of my laptop I received a message about Microsoft Updates to install and computer would shutdown when finished installing. An hour later the updates still had not finished installing so I shut down my laptop manually.

When I turned on my laptop I received a message stating could not find C:windows/system 32/ juschd.exe.bat file, however, computer continued to boot up and all appeared well.

I then tried to update McAfee and the Security Center was not able to update so I type in the address bar of Internet Explore www.mcafee.com and Internet Explore was not able to display the page. I also found I could not get to any site with "McAfee" in the address.

I called McAfee and after a hour they said I need to call a different department and that there would be an additional charge.

So I decided to try and fix this on my own. Researched and found that this might be a MTU size error so made registry entry of hkey_local_machine\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndiswan
Parameters\Protocols\0... ProtocolType REG_DWORD 0x00000800 PPPProtocolType REG_DWORD 0x00000021 ProtocolMTU REG_DWORD 1452.

This did not work. Then read to uninstall McAfee. So I uninstalled McAfee including showing all folders and files and then deleting them. Needless to say this did not work. I still could not visit the McAfee websites.

Then I found this forum and did some more reading. Wish I had found this forum first.

Since reading some of the p... Read more

Hi forum,

I'm having some problem about a week ago with Microsoft security essentials bugging out on me and not opening or updating. Basically the message I got on opening MSE was windows cannot access specified path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the file. Upon reading this about a week ago, I think! I proceeded to foolishly downloading a Zeroroot access program and a few MSE alternatives. Since then I have still been unable to re-install MSE by deleting all components in the registry.

The error code I get with trying to re-install MSE is 0x80070643

Having then unistalled the zeroaccess program and the previous alternative antivirus programs, I still cannot get MSE working, and I now have a windows 7 update error. The new system update I believe may be to do with security as-well!! The error code on doing a windows 7 update is 80070005, and it did cut out at 9% every time. (although now I think it is just 0%)
Can someone please help me as I have had a very successful streak of avoiding viruses by always usin MSE. I don't want, and can't afford to get a virus attack, not to mention Im runnign windows 7 ultimate so I need the windows 7 updates too because the ultimate can be dodgy sometimes. Nb the update I cannot do is 1.4mb but I am anticipating windows will throw me a new update any day soon which could be anywhere from 30mb to 200mb and it could fail all of it leaving me prone to attacks.

I can post my specs, ... Read more

I just got a Satellite P500 and am running Windows 7. I downloaded all of the latest drivers and updated the system bios to version 1.70 (from Toshiba's support website). Now, my number pad on the keyboard is not working.

The numlock light is on and when I hit the "6" key on the number pad, it turns the light on/off but the behavior of the other keys does not change whether it is on or off. The "-" key enters a "6" but none of the other keys (except "enter" does anything.

I removed the keyboard driver and restarted to re-install the keyboard driver but that had not effect. The keyboard did work for a few days after I flashed the bios but seems to have stopped since I started using a USB mouse. I tried uninstalling the USB mouse driver but that did not do anything either (it was a Logitech driver).

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite P500 - After BIOS update the number pad isn't working anymore

What is the model number of the P500?

Have you tried setting the BIOS to its default settings?

If you boot from an MSDOS boot disk, does the numpad still do the same thing?

I am getting problem whenever I?m trying to send Email using Microsoft outlook express 2007. I am getting this error message ?Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Error Number: 0x800CCC0F? please help me in resolving this error.

Answer:Why is this error coming "Error Number: 0x800CCC0F" in Microsoft Outlook Express continuously?

Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. I assume that you?ve ruled these out.

The problem may also occur if you have an antivirus e-mail protection utility enabled, which checks the mail as it comes in from your Post Office Protocol (POP) server. To test this, disable the antivirus e-mail protection utility as well as the Windows Firewall.

Another likely cause is that there is a message that is either too large or corrupt in some manner. Logon to your servers Webmail site and delete the offending message there.

This error indicates one of two related things: that the Windows Update service is not running or the Windows Installer platform is broken/not installed/out of date.Try this:Click on the Start button, then click on Run...In the Run... box, type cmd and press Enter. This will launch the Windows Command Line Shell (looks like DOS)In the Command Shell window, type the following and press Enter:net stop wuauservThen type this and press Enter:net start wuauservTry updating again. If that fails, then try this:Go to the Add/Remove Programs control in the Control PanelIn the list of programs, see if there is an entry for Windows Installer 3.1 (you will need to check the box that says "Show Updates")If there is an entry, then uninstall Windows Installer 3.1Visit the Windows Installer download page and download the installer.Run the installer to reinstall Windows Installer 3.1Reboot, see whether that fixed the problem.

I'm having some problems updating my computer because I keep getting this error code 0x80072EFE from Windows Update. This never happened before because I just reformated my Windows XP and there seem to be some problems doing so because my pc can sometimes stop functioning altogether after going online and then using safe mode. I'm assume there's some malware or virus somewhere in my pc. Anyway of fixing this?

Answer:Windows Update Error number: 0x80072EFE

If you've only just reformatted XP and you suspect a virus already you might be better off reformatting again before you get too many of your programs back on there.Having said that, I don't know why you are assuming a virus. There are a lot of hits in Google if you use the string "0x80072EFE from Windows Update". Most seem to refer to connection issues and a Proxy Server. If you don't use one then it would be worth looking in IE > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings button and make sure "use a proxy server....etc" is unticked. How to know you are getting old 6:You can't remember what it is that you have forgotten.

I have done four hours of research on how to fix this problem, but have yet to find a resolution... Also ,thanks in advance to whoever can help guide me into solving this.

I go to Windows Update (http://www.update.microsoft.com/wind....aspx?ln=en-us)
So, I click the button to install
image: http://www.zshare.net/image/60179527dd2818/
And everything seems to go okay... 2 screens flash by, stating:
Downloading: 100%
Installing: 100%
And then, after those, I get a page stating: The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.
image: http://www.zshare.net/image/6018019d903e34
And this is where I am stuck.
I do not have any Antivirus or firewalls. I don't have Spybot. I have the Automatic Updates and BITS services enabled. If there is anything more that you want to know, then feel free to ask.

Note: attached is my WindowsUpdate.log file. Hopefully this will help...

Again, thanks in advance.

I am having problems connecting to Windows Update. Whenever I try to update the OS I get [Error number 0x8024D007] (See attached screenshot).

I have SP1 on my computer and I want to update to SP2 (I have heard there are still problems with SP3).

This computer was very infected and I received help on the Hijackthis Log Help forum. It is now "clean".

Here is the link to my thread on the HijackThis Log Help Forum:

If someone could take a look at this I would appreciate it.

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows Update Error Number 0x8024D007

Hello nasirabd,

I suggest you try this workaround for Windows Update issues...

How to Repair the Windows Update Files.

1. Go Start > Run.
2. In the box type REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL > Enter.
3. A message saying, "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" will appear > OK.
4. Now it is necessary to repeat these steps for each of the following files commands:
Hit Enter after each line

REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL
REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL
REGSVR32 ATL.DLL
REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL
REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL

Once finished; since the temporary folder of Windows Update may be corrupted, please carry out the following steps to rename the folder:

1. Go Start > Run > in the box type cmd > Enter.

Type the following command in the open panel.

net stop WuAuServ

(Please Note: the computer may need to be rebooted before the net stop command will work.)

2. Go Start > Run > type in the box %windir% > Enter.
3. In the opened folder, rename the folder ( by Right clicking) SoftwareDistribution to Sdold.
4. Go Start > Run > type in cmd > Enter. In the open command pane, please type:

net start WuAuServ

Once that?s done, Go Start > All Programs > Windows Updates and see if it will allow the downloading/installation of Windows Updates.

Post back with the results.

Kind Regards,

Hello All

I am having trouble receiving windows updates, as I am getting this error message: Error number: 0x800704DD

I read this thread prior to posting:
http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=187811

I also followed the microsoft suggestion on this page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968001

I initially found out that I did not have permission to edit the registry. I got that fixed, which revealed that I had the keys and keys values that were requested from the link above. I have checked several links and forums from other sites as well.

The only thing I didnt tried fully was to rename my Notify folder to "Notify_Disabled" and rename my Notify_Disabled to "Notify". I say "fully" because when I did make the changes, my newly "Notify" folder (previously the Notify_Disabled folder, which did not have anything in it) received a subfolder name "SensLogn" which is the same folder that must be edited as suggested in the microsoft link above. At this stage, I did not rename the Original Notify folder to "Notify_Disabled" in fear of having to make all the additional folders over, including key values that are inside of those folders. Hope this make sense.

I even called the free Microsoft help hotline, which resulted in about 2 hours of trouble shooting, but no fix.

It may not relate to this error, but, are all the relevant microsoft websites listed under trusted zones in 'internet options'?

Hi Majorgeeks,
Post malware infection and successful cleaning, I'm in the process of protecting my computer using you 'How to Protect you computer from Malware' recommendations and I find that I am falling at the first hurdle. I can't install any Windows updates and I keep on getting the above error message. I trouble shot for the solution and it looks as if I need to go into the system 32 to check it out. I don't really feel experienced enough, so I'm wondering if you can help me out in any way possible.
Thanks,

Answer:Windows Update Fail [Error number: 0x80070424]

This is really something you should work in the Software Forum if your PC has already had all malware removed.

However try the below:

Please click Start, Run, and enter cmd and click OK. This will open a command prompt window. Enter the below command at the command prompt and then hit the enter key.

%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL

Now look for the C:\MGlogs.zip file and attach it no matter what happened while doing the above.

If that does not help, try disabling protection software while updating. And if that still does not work, I suggest that you continue in the Software Forum.

3- Re-register Windows Update components and Clear the corrupted Windows

a. Click on Start and then click Run,

press Enter.

REGSVR32 ATL.DLL

Welcome to Lenovo's forums!   First, please check in c:\windows\system32\ and look for a file named WindowsUpdate.log right after you run Windows Update.  Scroll down to the bottom and see what the specific error is.   I have cleared odd Windows Update problems by doing the following:1:  rename c:\windows\system32\softwaredistribution to something else2.  delete c:\windows\system32\WindowsUpdate.log or move it somewhere else. Let us know what happens after you try this and what the specific error is.

Hi, I'm working on a friends computer and cannot get updates from Microsoft Windows Update site. The computer was infected with a virus, but was able to clean it up as far as I can tell. The machine is an eMachine T6450 running Windows XP Media Center. I was going to perform a system recovery using the Recovery Partition on the hard drive. Apparently when the manufacturer created the "Recovery Partition" some of the required files were not included and and require a Recovery Disc set to be used during the Recovery operation. The owner of the computer no longer has the Recovery CD set so I could not perform a successful System Recovery. I did however perform a repair on the Operating system by using my Windows XP Professional installation CD. Everything works great except for the errord code from Microsoft when attempting to download Windows Updates. The error message I receive is

"Problem with windows update -- error number 0x8007043B"

From what I've been able to find out the problem seems to related to not having a current version of Windows Update Manager installed or the service is not started. On the troubleshooting steps Microsoft instructs me to open up and verify that the Automatic Update Service is started. I checked the service and Automatic Updates is not currently started. I tried to start the service and I received te following error message:

A couple of hourse ago I did a scan of my security settings with Belarc Advisor and changed each one to the recommended settings. After doing so I now am having problems with Microsoft Update. When trying to run Microsoft Update I get the following:
[Error number: 0x800A0046]
Please change your Internet Explorer security settings
To save changes to your settings for this website, you need to enable userdata persistence for Internet Explorer. Complete the steps below, and then click Change settings to the left and try saving your changes again.
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab, click the Internet security zone icon, and then click Custom Level.
In the Settings dialog box, scroll to the Miscellaneous section.
Under Userdata persistence , select Enable.
Click OK and when the security warning dialog box appears, click Yes.

Something to note here is that this setting is already enabled in Internet Explorer. Other odd things that have also happened is not being able to go into the properties of the Automatic Updates Service and Webroot Spy Sweeper's installation being corrupted.

Hello,
I have kind of a bizarre problem. End of last week, Microsoft (MS) was doing an upgrade on my system (embarrassed to say, don't know what), when I restarted in am, Only OS that would run was win 95. (I have win XP pro, sv pk 3, 64bits, sony vaio fs system). So i now only can run win 95, (I'm pretty sure 95, but could be win 98), while in normal mode, I can only get XP if I restart in "safe mode, w/networking". While in normal, I can see driver files, for xp, they just don't work. I tried running 'chkdsk /r and /f, in BOTH safe and normal, cleanmgr, regedit, all to no avail. However when I tried to open 'MSINFO 32' the system properties box opened up, as usual, but instead of the info, inside the box it said "Cannot access WMI (Win Mngmnt Instrumentation) software, Win files may be missing or moved". I tried doing a search for any files with those words, and with 'search hidden files' included, and did not find anything, guess they were right...To make matters worse, under win 95, normal mode, the taskbar rises up covering half of screen permenently and I can't get it to shrink down or go away. and oh, yeah, I don't have a mouse or touchpad right now, (existing prob). TouchP out of order, usb mouse won't work cuz MS "new hardware mngr" cannot see any drives or software, so can 't install, so I can't use a mouse to deal with taskbar. I would imagine I will now probably have to run some type of boot floppy, but I don't know which one to u... Read more

Answer:XP not working, system in Win 95 after Microsoft Update

When you say that it's Win95, do you mean it just looks like Windows 95? Windows XP can't spontaneously revert to an older operating system. If you right click on your desktop and select "Properties," a new window will appear. Go to the "Appearance" tab. The first drop down box will say "Windows and Buttons." Click on it and select "Windows XP Style." Let me know if this works.

As for the hardware, it sounds like that it might not have shut down properly while updating. Put in your Windows XP CD and try to do a system repair or a system restore if you have restore points set up.

Hi,

I am using Windows XP Pro and Office Pro 2003 on a 2.8GHz machine with 1GB Ram and 120GB HDD with a fairly large bunch of security software.

About 4-6 weeks ago my auto update feature for Microsoft Updates stopped working.

Now even when I manually run through the process by visiting the Microsoft Updates Site etc. I can still not down load the updates indicated after the system scan.

It does work if I use the back-door and visits the downloads section and search for the download numbers I need. Then I can download and install.

Any hope for Microsoft Updates auto or manual?

Thanks

One of my computers has not been receiving the auto updates from Microsoft correctly. I have XP and Office 2003 professional on the machine. When I try to manually update from the website, either the Microsoft site or the office site, their system incorrectly believes I am using Office 2007 rather than Office 2003.

I did use the the trial version of Office 2007, however, I uninstalled it when I could not justify the cost of purchasing it. I reinstalled office 2003, and since then I get only the updates for office 2007 rather than office 2003, and not all of the xp updates that are received on my other xp computers.

How can I fix this?

As always, thanks for any help or guidance.

My Microsoft Surface 2 touchscreen stopped working after an update two days ago. Tech support was unhelpful. I KNOW this is software -- nothing wrong with the hardware. Is there a fix?

Answer:Why is my Microsoft Surface touchscreen not working following a Windows update?

I've had the same problem today with my Surface 2 - UNBELIEVABLY BAD SERVICE from MS - I called technical help - went through extremely time-consuming "Refresh" and "Reset" - no help at all - then told me Microsoft were "working on the problem" and it would take them 3 weeks to find an answer!!!!! I can now only use my Surface 2 with keyboard - really embarrassing as I use it for work - apparently Microsoft doesn't mind that I have to tell all my business contacts that Microsoft updates mess up Microsoft's own products!!!! Why get me to do a re-set pointlessly?????? Did you get a solution????? Does anybody at MS read this forum and care enough to help me?????

A few days ago there was an automatic update to my Windows 10 operating system. After the update when I put a DVD into the multimedia optical drive, all I get is the message, "Insert a DVD into the drive." I've tried several DVD's but none work.

When I put a CD into the drive, it works perfectly. I see the DVD player listed in This PC.

A friend who lives in the same building as I has had exactly the same problem. What can we do to solve this problem?

Answer:DVD Player not working after automatic Microsoft update, software

Hi, perhaps you could clarify what sort of DVD you are referring to.. e.g.
- blank (DVD-R, DVD-RW, dual layer)
- pre-recorded (film)
- audio
- data
- something else

What happens when you try to look at the drive using file explorer? can you see the files/folders on the DVD?

We had a computer that was infected with a virus which was responsible for the annoying "XP 2011 Security...." pop up. To the best of our knowledge we successfully removed that virus. I recently discovered, on the same machine, that Microsoft and Windows Update and Windows Defender Update won't work with the error "error number: 0X80070424". I also found the Firewall had been disabled (one of the services had been removed). The microsoft fix utility did not fix the problem. Symantec Antivirus and Malwarebytes found nothing. Spybot Search and Destroy found a few harmless things and the Sophos Rootkit checker found nothing of significance.

My laptop automatically updated Windows 10. The update seemed to go through okay, but none of my Microsoft Games work any more. I had installed the older versions of Microsoft Games (not the new versions, which I do not like), and they had been working fine since I installed them on Windows 10. I tried de-installing them entirely, rebooting, and reinstalling, but still no luck. When I click on the file to start a game, a small 'thinking' rotating circle icon comes on for a few seconds and then nothing happens, no application starts.

Microsoft working on 'Apollo+' update for Windows Phone 8

Microsoft is allegedly working on an update to Windows Phone, called Apollo+. This will be a minor '.1' update that will add some of the features missing in the initial release, such as support for VPN networks and OTA updates. It will also include bug fixes for issues such as Wi-Fi connection bug. Microsoft reportedly ran out of time for the initial release of Windows Phone 8, due to which they had to leave out features such as a notification center. You can expect to see these features roll out gradually in future updates for Windows Phone 8.

Good thing, hopefully, this update will arrive sooner than I was expecting.

In related news, WinPho 7.8 may arrive this week.

Hi

I have a Satellite P200-144 and ever since I installed a new Synaptics driver provided to me via Windows Update the touchpad has not worked.

I have tried rolling back the driver, re-installing a new one, installing an Alps driver (as suggested on a messsage board) but this has no effect. I have tried to revert to a previous system state, however this fails to happen.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium which came with the noteboos when I purchased it a few months ago. I have also gone into the settings in the control panel and none of the settings there makes it work - help!

Has anyone had this happen to them, or does anyone know of a fix for this?

Kind regards

Chris

Answer:Satellite P200-144: Touchpad not working after Microsoft Windows Update

Hi there,

a quick and effective solution would be to backup your data to a external media (DVD, USB-HDD, etc.) to recover your machine and then to AVOID such windows updates, since this drivers ARE not the native drivers from the manufacturer. Just install the drivers provided from toshiba since they work on your machine.

Unfortunately I don?t have another solution for you, so it would be the best to try this method and give a quick reply if it worked.

I'm new to Windows 10 since I bought my new laptop in last January. Everything was going well until a huge update happened yesterday. It didn't give me the choice of postponing it and at 11:30 AM sharp it started. It lasted a very long time and gave messages of percentage achieved and that it was closing often during the process.
Then it gave me the message that everything was at its place on my computer but it was kind of frozen there for a long time. I was tapping on my pad to activate the screen but nothing was happening and I got frustrated so, I decided to do Ctrl+Alt+delete to force my computer to reboot.
Since then when I click to open my Outlook, it cannot send or receive and I get the following error (0x800CCC0E)... Impossible to connect to the server.
I can't access any website on the Internet also.
I thought the system was automatically creating a system restore point so I could go back in time to avoid having to erase everything and reinstall windows 10 but unfortunately, it wasn't. I didn't know I had to set it up. It's all new to me.
Can somebody help me avoid erasing everything please.
Thanks,
Touvielle

Answer:Microsoft Outlook and Internet not working after latest Windows Update

The quickest thing I can suggest that is that you uninstall that particular Windows Update and then use this tool to block that particular Windows Updates in Windows 10.
Once you have a working computer, I suggest you report your problem to Microsoft Answers and see if they have fixed this update or have a quick fix for it.

I can not get Windows 7 Update to work at all.  I receive a message that the service is currently not running and to restart the computer.  This does nothing.  I have gone into services under "services.msc" and windows update is not listed as running or stopped.

I came across this issue while trying to get Microsoft Security Essentials to update.  I keep getting an error code.  Of course now that I am writing this and try to get the error code to reference, the update works.  The MSE not updating is a chronic problem for me.

I am still fairly new to the forum, so please let me know if there is additional information, or I make a slip-up.

Thank you.

So is MSE updating now as well as Windows Update? Do you still have the problem or did it somewhat fix itself? If it continues to happen, write down the error code as it is printed on your screen and post it here.

A couple of weeks ago I got error messages from Security Essentials when restarting a PC (Win7/32, SP1). I could not uninstall the program using the Control Panel, so I used the FixIt-utility from Microsoft.
This made things worse.
I am not able to run Windows Update anymore (error code: 80073712 ? Windows could not search for new updates).
There are no system restore dates going back before I started having the problems two weeks ago.
When running sfc /scannow (as admin) I get the following error message:
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.
Tried the same function using the Win 7 (SP1) install disk. Get the following error:
There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete.
Restarted several times with the same results.
Since SFC was not working I tried to do a repair install. During the compatibility check I got this message:
Windows needs to be restarted so necessary changes to system files can be made before continuing.
I have tried several reboots and also checked for a pending.xml file. Nothing.
Any suggestions/ideas? It is a standard PC I use for Office apps.

You may want to check, but on my Vista I don't see any new add-on and I don't even have C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack folder. http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2010...lbar-update.ars As part of its regular Patch Tuesday, Microsoft released an update for its various toolbars, and this update came with more than just documented fixes. The update also installs an add-on for Internet Explorer and an extension for Mozilla Firefox, both without the user's permission. As you can see in the Windows Update screenshot above, Microsoft does not indicate that the update will install anything for either browser. It's also not really clear what the installed extension actually does.

Thanks Broni for the information. As for Firefox can't I just delete the extension. Let us all see which company gits back to B/C with some sort of answer.

Greetings to all forum users from an Italian user. I use an old ThinkPad R50e 1834-NFG (with Windows XP Home with service pack 3 as operating system) because it still suits my needs (primarily writing, and until some months ago only rarely the Internet). Some months ago I installed ThinkVantage, but it never worked properly: soon after the loading of the desktop a message automatically appears which reads (I translate from the Italian) ?It is not possible to run (?eseguire? in Italian) ThinkVantage Access Connections on this system (?piattaforma?)? ; the same message appears if I try to run Access Connections later from the Start menu. I downloaded from Lenovo site the update ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows XP - Notebooks 2009-06-01, but nothing changed.  Besides, if I try to download updates (?Ricevi nuovi aggiornamenti?) from ThinkVantage System Update, the download stops after (usually) 19% of the process, and the following message appears: (translated from Italian) ?An error occurred while downloading?.  I did the complete Lenovo Hard Drive Test, and no problems emerged.  I don?t know if there is some relation, but for some months I have been experiencing also the two following problems: 1) I succeed in downloading Microsoft Updates, but, even though my software is all original, it seems that some update won?t install, since every time I want to turn off the computer I am asked to turn o... I have been trying to update my parents' computer for quite a while, but this is the first weekend where I've actually spent significant time attempting to do so. I cannot get through to the Microsoft Update site to download any of the security updates, as evidenced by the fact that they are STILL RUNNING SERVICE PACK 2! It is a XP Home addition machine. I'm not sure why it says Norton AntiVirus, as the machine is running Avast and I could have sworn I disabled and uninstalled Norton.

Anyway, I have been exploring the different reasons for a 0x80072efe error. I checked the system date and time. Those are fine. I went to Windows Firewall. Didn't help. I disabled the anti-virus software. Didn't help (though, as I mentioned above, if Norton is running somewhere, maybe that has something to do with it). I first noticed a problem when trying to update Itunes to 9.0. The iTunes update would fail at the end and cited an inability to install assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT. I also noticed that Windows Defender was having some failed definition updates, so I tried to run the Windows Updater and got Error 8008005. I tried to run the SFC tool, but it couldn't start the "repair service", which I was lead to believe is a problem with the Windows Modules Installer service. I tried to start WMI service and it said the service couldn't be found. I'm kind of out of the loop with malware and stuff so I figured it's be best if I posted a log somewhere. My computer was running fine. Then I started getting the occasional BSOD, but have been able to restart my computer. I went to run microsoft updates and it tells me an error occurred and gives me the code listed in the title of this tread (Code #80070246).

I followed the instructions on posting a thread. I downloaded and ran the SURT. It seemed to do its thing just fine.

Then I tried to run an sfc scan from an elevated prompt. When I did so i repeatedly got the following message: "windows resource protection could not preform the requested operation"

I have listed the error code and attached the CBS.zip file.

Any help with this issue would be MUCH appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
