Thunderbrid email client, Comodo Email Certificates, Avira IS 2012 questions

Question: Thunderbrid email client, Comodo Email Certificates, Avira IS 2012 questions

Hello, I always use web-based email via the browser at home. I do not use an email client(well in the office we have Outlook). I'd like to use Thunderbird at home with a Gmail account that can be used by the kids. Now I am using Avira IS 2012 and would like to make it scan emails through it's mailguard component. I have seen Thunderbird work with Avast IS on my brother's pc but I see that for it to scan all emails the SSL/TSL should be deactivated. I was asking the tech guys at the office about email clients, digital certificates etc and they only remarked "google it"...wow... So I came here....Now my questiosn are: a. Is it safe to disable SSL/TSL in an email client? In the office we have that(with Norton Enterprise) and I see an indicator at the bottom of the email message that it was scanned by Norton. b. Can there be an application that can allow me to have SSL/TSL at the same time have Avira scan my emails...? I searched google and found out that in Avira it also has to be disabled to let it scan all emails. c. SSL/TSL is encryption right..? Does not using encryption in email okay..? I mean at home. In the office it's important but at home...opinions please..d. What ports for POP3 IMAP SMTP should I allow Thunderbird to use In the firewall( I use Comodo). If Thunderbird wants connections via other ports other than the default ones...should I allow it or not..?e. Can an email client be run inside a sandbox? Is it sane enough or crazy..? Just asking here My brother tried Thunderbird with Sandboxie and it did not work got an error. But Thunderbird in Avast virtualization(sandbox) worked. He just tried it but did not sandbox Thunderbird. f. Anyone using Avira and Thunderbird...? or Avira and Outlook for that matter..? Can you share some good settings (safe settings) please...?g. About email certificates(pardon the very basic/noob questions please)., I see that Comodo offers email certificates free. See HEREi. What's the purpose for this email certificate..security-wise? How secure are you when using one..? Sorry really need to have a grasp about it prior using one ii. How does it work..? iii. Is it okay to use one at home? Or am I better off without one..?iv. How does one use it when sending/receiving emails at home..? How will the receiving end be when you send an email which is digitally signed..? (is that right.. there..I mean when you send an email(while using an email certificate you have in Thunderbird) that email is digitally signed right...?)v. When you already have one installed in Thunderbrid or Outlook, is it tailored for just one email account right..? Or can I use it for say, 2 accounts I register in Thunderbird..? Will using that certificate digitally sign my emails when using either accounts..? vi. Anyone using Comodo email certificate..? Any experiences...? I remember vaguely that there was a Comodo certificates fiasco...is the email certificates prone to such..? Opinions again please...thanks you:)I hope the noob questions about the topic will not bore you guys I'd like to understand some more prior taking the plunge. Will wait for your reply guys. Thanks so much

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Thunderbrid email client, Comodo Email Certificates, Avira IS 2012 questions

I would highly recommend that you keep TLS/SSL enabled this makes sure that your password and user credentials are not sent in the clear.

if the AV needs to have this disabled then its not a good AV..

The ports are on the setup page for Gmail: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Using_Gmail_with_Thunderbird_and_Mozilla_Suite

Digital Certs are expensive to create and use, and only vital for businesses and not home users.

Is it possible to set my online Comcast email client as my default email client in Vista? If so, any explanation on how this is done would be appreciated.
I just spent a few minutes online with a rep. from Comcast who couldn't answer the question.
Thank you.

I use T-Bird (v 31.7.0) On 2 occasions now, I have sent emails, with Attachments, to a friend in the UK, who is running HOTMAIL.On each occasion the Attachment is OK, but the message I sent with ti increases it?s Font size, line by line, until it is unreadable. Two 3 or 4 characters per line??and sections of the email are repeated. 4 or 5 lines, then back to the top. They are blaming me for a Virus?..but I am thinking the problem is their end, with a stuck key, or similar. Any ideas ?

Answer:thunderbird email change font size in hotmail email client

I don't know what is causing this but pretty sure "what it isn't".1. It is not the usual behaviour of a virus.2. It is not a stuck key their end. Keys don't come into the equation for received emails.Try sending an attachment to yourself and some other contact who will co-operate. That way you should be able to narrow down which end is responisible for the problem.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

My email client, desktop program PostBox (for Win) has been slowed since I installed BD TS2016 (I'm quite sure this is the reason as it was very fast before, and slowed immediately after...)

I also run WebRoot AV (which does not scan email as per their documentation) and HitmanAlertPro (which could also be affecting my email client, but I uninstalled it to test this somewhat small chance given its just an anti-exploit, and it doesn't seem to have affected it, the client is still slow).

1. I would LIKE BD to scan my email as of course having AV w/o scanning email could in many ways be pointless given email can be a deadly vector for heavy malware.

2. But I don't want my client to be slow. It's not horrible, and I suppose I could tolerate it (basically deleting messages, loading new messages, and the program responsiveness overall, is a bit sluggish compared with its normal instantaneous response)

3. Is there a way to configure email scanning differently? Or should the program NOT be slowing my client noticeably in general, and is this behavior indicative of something being wrong?

I'm sure BD users will be able to comment on whether it slows their email or not given they use a desktop client like Outlook, Postbox, Thunderbird, etc.

Thanks!

In the past I used BD TS exclusively with OutLook as my e-mail client and had no such issues, have you tried, or open to try switching clients to see if it's something about Postbox that BD TS disagrees with ?

Hi

Sadly nothing is easy I'm afraid when using Yahoo webmail unless you have the paid account, Live Mail and Gmail are the better free email accounts, but try the below.....

You can use your Yahoo email address with the Windows Live Email Client, or try Thunderbird as its free too.

BUT note that to setup POP3 account with an email client application you may need a Yahoo Plus account which is a paid for account over the free email account. But you can try Ypops! to set the free email up with POP3 access. Thunderbird + Ypops instructions HERE

Here is the problem: I have my email client (PocoMail) set as my default email client. It shows up as default client in the "Default Program section" in IE7.
When I click on a email link, whether it's in another program or on a website, my email client doesn't open the compose window with the address entered BUT IE7 starts and opens about 80 windows which need to be killed with Task Manager. By the way, this has nothing to do with PocoMail because it also happens when Thunderbird is set as default.

I am stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mentallo

Hidy ho all,

I wanted to set up an email client that acted a bit like my phone handles email. Downloads the new ones, lets me choose what to do with them (read them, delete them, mark them as special or something) but then simply uploads the instructions to the server without actually deleting them from the server. Is there an email client that does this?

Answer:Email client that doesn't download email?

My Email client, MSN Premium (not Hotmail) will not open to write an email when clicking on any website's button labeled "send us an email". Instead this action causes several instances (up to 5) of IE6 to invoke and then the Op Sys (WinME) hangs until I use Ctrl-Alt-Del to end the erroneously opened IE tasks. I thought maybe it was that MSN mail was not my default email client so I used the proceedure to make MSN mail my default instead of OE6 but each time I returned to the options to see if it had changed it still says my default client is OE. Interestingly, if I envoke the MSN explorer and go to my MSN email inbox I can send and receive my email perfectly. This machine has been up and running since last October. I do not know if the problem has always existed or started more recently since I don't often click on "send us email" buttons.
I have three other machines similarly set up and none of them exhibit this problem.
WinMe, MSN Premium, and MSN messenger 6 all are up to date and current.
McAfee AV is on and up to date.
CounterSpy and Spybot are up to date and actively running.
Firefox 1.0.2 is my default browser

Answer:Solved: Clicking "send us an email" hangs system and will not open my email client.

Specifically if using the portable form of Opera Mail, the mail client available from portableapps.com.

I tried looking at many articles from internet searches but found nothing telling where to find the folder holding the email messages for the email client. My copy of portable Opera Mail is on a usb flash drive. I have tried looking through the folders for the application but still do not know how to recognize any email messages.

Answer:Where on desktop is email for email client?

portableapps.com.

You do understand that downloading apps like this from most 3rd party sites poses all sorts of security risks, Remember this, That software while it was made by WhoEver has now been modified by somebody, How was it modified, Who did it, What else did they put in it? I may be wrong here however I also think may be against most software developers TOS to use modified software like this.

FYI only.
While Opera is free some sites and some people have used " the making of a app portable" on paid for software to bypass having to pay for the software. I used to do just that a long time ago. I now know and understand why it is bad.

Eg.
Making XXXXbytes premium into a portable application. While creating the portable you use a genuine key or "other" methods to activate Then compile it as portable with the activation in place, Now anybody with XXXXbytes portable has a free premium copy instead. That's software piracy. And Theft.

A friend sent me a secure e-mail that I could not open. I got a Secure Email Certificate from Comodo, hoping to solve this problem... NOT. The funny thing is, I had to restart my computer in order to send e-mails after attempting several times to send an e-mail with a digital signature. For some reason, when I use the SSL, it disables my ability to send e-mails, encrypted or otherwise- They just sit in my outbox. I reboot and then it works again, until I attempt to again send an e-mail with a digital signature. What's going on?! By the way, did I already have a default digital signature to begin with?
Anyway, thanks as always for the help!

I am needing to set up the ability to encrypt email messages through Outlook. I have a client that will need to start sending and receiving reports that are encrypted due to HIPAA.

The communication is only going to be between a few individuals, perhaps 2 or 3, one of which is not an internal user.

Would using Outlook and Digital Certificates be the best way to do this? If so, could I use the certs that are generated from their SBS server or should I go with a purchased cert?

HALP!

Answer:Digital Certificates for encrypting email

In our environment (financial organization) we use Entrust or Tumbleweed depending on the business unit. I personally have not done much work with tumbleweed, however I do enjoy entrust quite a bit because its fairly easy to roll out, and very easy to manage. We also use it as the cert for our VPN (not a big fan of this but meh).

Hi, I have 2 different certificates (digital IDs) that i have assigned to the same email address (it is necessary for sending documents to government offices).
Now does any email client offer the option to pick the certificate when writing the email and not prior to that? Because it's rather annoying and not very feasible to always go to options and select the default one whenever i need to use the other certificate as Outlook (+Express) and Thunderbird allow.

Or is there any way in these email clients to set this up properly?

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

I use thunderbird to connect to my ARMY AKO email account. I noticed the majority of the time, the client has difficulty completing sending email. (Though some gets through without timing out.) IF I go directly to the website and use their email I have no problems at all. What could be causing this? I'd rather use my client email program than to have to go the email site. Bear in mind this only happens sometimes, more frequently than I'd like, and I am also overseas.

not familiar with thunderbird, but have you checked the usual settings against those listed at your army email service?
-POP3/SMPT/etc settings and addresses
-secure login/passwords

Was on XP with AVG 8.5 as anti virus. Now with W7 using Avira in view of negative comments here re AVG 9. AVG auto scanned e mails, but I an not sure if Avira (free) does. Any views? Should I revert to AVG 9 (using PC Tools firewall, and have SAS and Malawarebytes). I tried MS Security Essentials on XP, but a friend thought it not as searching as Avira. . Anyway I would be grateful for views re live checking of e Mails by any of the above anti virus free programmes, particularly Avira as that is my current programme.

Like so many others, the time has come to ditch AVG. AVG8 is slow, resource hungry, incompatible with other security tools, causes my system to reboot (as if someone has hit the restart key on the system unit). The advice I've received from the AVG forum is really just shooting in the dark. So, I've been looking at Avast and Avira. The Avria user manual is not at all clear as to whether it includes email scanning. There are a couple of cursory references to email in general terms, that's all. Can some one clarify whether Avira has a full email scan capability like AVG's?I can't find a user manual at all on the Avast website. Does it have one (e.g. embedded in the install package)? I can see from the website that it does have a generic email scanner though.

Answer:Does Avira AV include email scanning?

Why not just turn the Link Scanner and resident shield off.Avg will run a bit quicker.

Hi,

I am in need a of a good email security tool to use with the free edition of AVIRA antivirus, which of course has no email security tools.

I am looking for a tool that not only is a spam filter but will also check for other malware ( ie scan everything incoming and will scan attachments before they open).

Any ideas??

Hello Netsurfer, if you don't know the namer of the server that hotmail uses I'm afraid you can't use these settings, but if you have another provider that has provided you with an e-mail address than use the name of that smtp server. That is all I can say to help you. greetings

Have been testing out Comodo Premium (free) and then got an email from a person called Glenn Howard who claimed to be my point of contact for sales re the certificate I supposedly bought - haven't bought anything from them which in hindsight I should realised that something was up and have just dumped the email.

Now I replied to the email that to all intents and purposes was genuine as it had the Comodo logo and the correct email addresses on it. (I am very suspicious re any emails as a rule unless I know 100% that they are ok.) However the return email was very strange as the mail address was comod.com and not comodo.com.

So I have emailed the main Comodo site and have yet to get any reply - now three days in the waiting.

Has anyone else had this happen to them while using Comodo? If so what was the outcome as now I am getting a tad nervous re using Comodo..

Answer:Weird email from Comodo

I would delete it and all traces, then install it again, watching carefully.
Then see if you'll get the email again.
What gets me is that these things even happen with AV providers. When i google for "glenn howard" comodo
a site (linkedin) comes up saying he is global account manager Comodo with an education in criminal justice! So maybe his identity is stolen. You'd think Comodo would answer your email. Something is screwy.

Hi Guys
Does anyone know if the Comodo CIS package scans my incoming emails for nasties. I did use Avast and I am pretty sure that it scanned emails but cant find any info on Comodo
Any help appreciated
Regards
Michael

Answer:Comodo CIS email scanning ????

No it does not.Comodo's philosophy here is that malware has to hit the memory or the hard drive to get activated. And those 2 parts are scanned. All other "scanners" won't add anything to your protection level(s).

So for example if you receive an email with an infected attachment you won't get an alert, if you try to open/save it you will. This reduces resources and yet makes CIS a very fast, light & powerful Suite.

Suddenly I have found that I can not receive email and or I get Page Load errors, . .

when I open COMODO and turn off the (3), Monitors it all works again ?

Can anyone give me a glue as to what is happening.

I have run several Scans and there doesn't seem to be any infections, but I do have one or two suspicious files and have posted in, "Am I infected ?"

Answer:COMODO Blocking My Page Connections and Email ?

When you say Comodo, if you are using Comodo Internet Security or Comodo Firewall Pro, open the GUI and navigate to Firewall,Advanced, Network security policy. Then look for anything which you may have blocked by mistake and delete it. You will be asked again whether to allow the action next time it wants to connect. The only default block on installation should be for Comodo, stating 'Block and log all unmatching requests', so leave that one.

Or in Network security policy select your email client, choose 'edit', select 'Use a predefined policy' and select email client. Then select your browser, choose 'edit', select 'Use a predefined policy' and select Web browser.

Hopefully either of these will correct your problem.

I have a situation where someone has 2 email addresses. One of them is now redundant and I have deleted it from the People section. However, when I am set to make a new email to that person and type the first letter of their name, in the pop up window (that you can click on) their old email address still appears.
How do I delete this from that list? Can find no way to do so.

Answer:Outlook Email - Deleting Wrong Email Entry when starting new email

In new email, start typing the address you want to remove. When you have enough characters for auto complete to show it (sometimes one letter is enough), use DOWN ARROW key on keyboard to select the address in question and press DEL key.

That's it.

I given the Live mail app in Windows 10 a try. In this app I have to click More to see the folders for my aliases and there is no notification that mail has arrived. Maybe I'm missing a setting or something but settings seem pretty sparse.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro x64, upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I experienced no problems with the upgrade, either during the upgrade process or after it was completed. The one problem I have concerns a single email account in WLM 2012. I have a total of 27 email accounts in WLM and they consist of sbcglobal.net accounts, Hotmail, MSN, Live, Outlook and Windowslive. WLM 2012 is working fine for all email accounts except one of the windowslive accounts. I have five windowslive accounts and four of them work. I simply can't connect with one of them through WLM 2012. However, when I go to live.com or hotmail.com and sign into this particular windowslive account I get access to it. The password is correct and everything is the same as when I was using WLM 2012 in Windows 7. The server used in all windowslive email accounts, naturally, is https://mail.services.live.com/Delta....0.0/sync.aspx. I can't understand why four of them work and one of them does not.

Thank you in advance for your time and any assistance provided.

Answer:WLM 2012 Trouble With One Email Account

Well, I finally discovered why the one windowslive email account was inaccessible. The emergency contact for this particular account was one of my wife's old email accounts in China. It had been so long since we used that account (ten years) that both my wife and I had forgotten the password. When we made several attempts at the password for this emergency email contact, with no success, I changed the emergency email contact, at which point Microsoft locked down the account for 30 days. Once the 30 days had passed I once again had access to the windowslive email account in question. I can now automatically sign into this account, along with all the others, when WLM is opened.

Question: W10 Email Client ?

I've been using the latest Windows 10 Email app "Mail". I have it configured for my outlook email accounts. When a receive an email and it has an attachment ie a Photo, and I save the attachment I've noticed that the downloaded file ends up being " Read Only ". If I download the same attachment from the Outlook Server, it does not have the " Read Only " attribute marked. Also I tried downloading the same attachment via my Thunderbird Client, it also downloads the file, but the " Read only " attribute is NOT set.

Does anybody know how to turn off this feature OFF ?

Any help will be appreciated.

I have a few email addresses from different companies that I have had for many years. I had no problem setting them up in Outlook Express, so whatever email address the person had that I gave them (anyone of three different ones), Outlook Express would open all of them.

Now I intend to buy a computer with Windows 7 and they do not use Outlook Express. I would like to keep these different email addresses and have the emails all open in the email client I choose to use.

I assume that Outlook would do this, but I really can afford it right now but will get it if I have to.

Any email program that will pull all these different email address in and open them?

Someone mentioned Windows Live 2011 - I haven't looked into this one, anyone familiar with it?

I wanted to ask: what is the best email client software available? A little time ago I was reading a comparing article of several clients on a magazine and the winner was pocomail.
What I am looking for in an email client is the function of following the conversations by grouping the emails written to a specific person. This characteristic is perfectly funtional in gmail.

You might take a look at Eudora. It allows you to make a mail box for certain individuals then it filters the mail into that mailbox from that person. I use Eudora for e-mail and I'm really happy with it.

Question: Email Client

I was just curious what the email client of choice is with Win7 since it does not come with one. I am leaning toward Thunderbird. I have to have the ability to have two email addresses. From my understanding if you use Windows Live Mail, you must actually go into the Control Panel and change users. That is alot of trouble. Does anyone know of another email client other than Thunderbird that allows two users like Outlook Express did?

(sorry if this is a repost, did a bit of searching beforehand though)

I've used Opera's built in email for a long time now, mostly because I enjoy the convenience of clicking the left sidebar and opening my email so easily, but I was wondering what everyone else uses? Perhaps try to coax me into a new client?

Answer:What email client do you use?

Most that use IMAP (including myself) are not very happy with Opera's mail client.

They've rewritten the IMAP backend from scratch. It is available in 9.0TP1 and will be available in 9.0 Final when it comes out.

The problem is, the interface is a pop3 interface. Almost all the features are pop3 features. There are a million features missing for IMAP. Opera's mail client destroys the idea of IMAP. I've been on them to fix things. We'll see.

Also, the fact that the folder list is in a panel and the message list is in a separate window makes it a pain for drag n drop. Lots of people have panel placement set to float, which make the mail client a pain to use.

The whole filters deal just doesn't do it for imap. Opera's mail client doesn't even keep things in sync with the server. Also, it can easily wipe out all messages in your imap folder.

Now for pop3, Opera's mail client works fine and is pretty cool.

Also, if you are one to compose mail in HTML format, you can't in Opera. You can't even forward HTML that someone sent to you. Also, Opera itself doesn't support copying and pasting of rich text so if you copy pics, links and text from a web page and paste it, all you get is text.

Also, new in Opera mail, like some other clients, now splits up download messages into separate folders for each day and each message is now stored in a separate file. This is supposed to improve parsing files by doing things separately... Read more

I have been using AOL for years and have finally got fed up as they have been losing 30% of my email over the last month and simply will not admit it is their fault. I have set up my own domain with oneandone who also provide me with 3 POP3 mailboxes and an outgoing SMTP server. So, I have some nice new addresses and some mailboxes which leaves two decisions: which ISP to use to get on line and which Mail Client to use to send and receive email.I have plenty of time to decide on which ISP to use as I am still using AOL to log on. However, the question of which Mail Client to use to access my POP3 Mailboxes is urgent. I have played about a bit with Outlook Express over the years so using that would be the easiest. However, I am worried that most viruses, worms etc seem to be written to work with OE so would I be best to avoid it?I am wondering about Outlook, but is it not also vulnerable to viruses etc? Is it not also fairly big and clunky given that I only want email, not any sort of time management. (I am retired) On the other hand, I shall be using several email addresses to keep my mail in order so perhaps Outlook would be a good choice?I am wondering to about Eudora and Pegasus. As I know nothing about these, any comments would be most helpful. With thanks in advance.

Answer:Which is the best Email Client?

This is a good choice if you want to add a bit of panache, or perhaps themes to your emails as I find most emails boring.Depending on your sense of humour you can certainly liven someones day up, and as far as bugs, worms, etc I am not aware of any but of course you have to be using decent Antivirus, Firewalls etc for protection anyway.

Hi,

I have just upgraded my PC to Windows 7 and note that there is no email client. I have installed Windows Live Mail and I hate this programme with a vengenance. My wife refuses to use the PC until I get rid of WLM.

We have a laptop which still has Vista and Windows Mail which we are used to and is excellent. We really do not want two different email programmes so is there a way to install the Vista Windows Mail on my Win 7 PC? We can transfer the necessary files from the laptop if need be.

Step by step instructions would be appreciated.

Question: email client

I have Windows 10 pro and have been using Windows Mail; unfortunately it is erratic syncing and I just lost a valuable folder. It seems ok at times and I like its simplicity because I am at an average tech level.
I have had other issues with it so have discontinued use.
Awkward as it may sound, I use gmail because of my phone but it too has difficult folders.
I have a MS account because I run Windows and it too has fickle folders.
So I use the folders in my ISP Comcast account as it is dependable as far as folders go.
All of my contacts and places like forums and doctors tetc have my MS account as the default.
I have read about email clients and tried a few like Thunderbird, Claws, and another that escapes me.
I need an email client that is fairly easy to use and can accomodate three accounts.
Are you aware of any? I don't have a VM so don't want to try then remove too many.

Question: Email client

Thinking about getting away from using webmail, and getting a webmail client. I use W7 Ult. I am not looking to pay for anything; I understand MS Outlook has a free vers. So, I go to the outlook page, but it's asking me to sign up. That kinda threw me. Sign up - for what? Create an acct? That type of thing worries me, even if it is MS.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Answer:Email client

Ms Outlook has no free versions. Outlook.com (former Hotmail.com and Live.com) is a webmail service by Microsoft. It has nothing to do with Microsoft Outlook email client and personal information manager, part of the Microsoft Office suite. If you want to use Outlook.com webmail, you have to sign up for an Outlook.com account.

You can use Microsoft Office Outlook client to read and send Outlook.com mail but they really have nothing else to do with each other.

Question: email client

Hello

To change my email client do I click on control panel>default programs>associate a file type>mail to?

My current one is WLM but I don't know what happens when I click "Change program"!

Will I have a choice like Windows Outlook.com?

**The reason I am asking is because if I click on 'set your default programs' as I usually do and highlight a program to set as default, no other mail is there - just WLM. I have Gmail, 2 Live accounts, Comcast account, and WLM all in my WLM desk account. I was hoping to make the Outlook.com application the email client but maybe it cannot be done.
I have not synchronized and do not know if it is necessary to get Outlook.com to appear on the default program page.
Any help appreciated.

I am not sure if this is the right place for this question or not but I have a new laptop with Windows 8 and there are those panes and one was for Mail. I selected it and it asked me to enter my username and password. I wasn't sure if it would work but I put in my hotmail information and it worked. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a way to back of out that and there are other people that use this laptop using the same login information. When you select the Mail pane, it automatically goes to my email inbox. Is there a way to reset it so there is no personal info again? I don't really know what I am doing but I do know I don't want a bunch of folks able to read my personal email. I have looked everywhere I know to look.

I would really appreciate any help you can provide.

I currently us Outlook Express for my email client. I often times get email with lots of nice images, links and almost looks like a Web site but it's an email. I was told that I would need to use something other than Outlook Express to do this type of email.

2 questions:

1. Any suggestions of email clients that any of you use to do this type of emailing would be appreciated.

2. Can I use more than one email client (of course only one would be set as the default client), such as Outlook Express and some other client - then switch between the two?

So WLM has this approach to sending photos that is quite special and seems to work fine, within its limitations. Top feature is the ability to resize any photo you mail out "on the fly", and the email itself is gone from your inbox in a blink. Things that make it not so great include the 3-month limitation on viewing those pics, and that you have to have a Microsoft SkyDrive (now OneDrive) account for it to work.

I have a customer who's been using the feature for a couple of years, and it worked well for him. But all of sudden last week the process stalls and hangs up WLM so that you have to reboot the computer. Here's what happens:

- you create a new (photo)email
- it opens a browse window so you can select your photo(s)
- you select the pic(s) and click [OK]
- insert email address & a subject and [Send]
So far so good. At this point what is *supposed* to happen next, is WLM connects to Skydrive and "publishes" the photo(s), then sends the email with thumbnail(s) linking to the file in the cloud. But the publishing stage hangs at 50%, no matter how long you wait. The Mail "Send/Receive" operation never completes, and you can't click on cancel or close or anything else that does anything, and the email never gets sent. Ctrl-Alt-Del.

I should add that if I log onto OneDrive via the Microsoft web site, I can see multiple copies of the photos I have been trying to send, so obviously they are making it that far.

I haven't found a... Read more

Hello,

I have been weaning myself away from my Outlook dependency. Especially for tasks, it was not doing what I needed.

Now, I would like to find a new email client. I like the performance that a desktop application has, but I would like to find something a litttle bit more pleasing than Outlook...

For example, when I was beta testing the Office 2010 suite, I was able to send messages to the developers, and when the message was sent, a piece of paper was created with the message, then folded up into an envelope and swished off the screen. I would like an email client that does these types of animations.

Is there anything out there to consider, besides Thunderbird? I also want something that has an easy way to back up the files and store emails in folders.

Thank you for any advice!

I have an ADSL connection but use BT internet (now partied with Yahoo) for my email and newsgroups. However, Bt-yahoo has become a real pain and its becoming a task just sending mail despite following their instructions to the letter.

I am just about to give up and would like to know of any other ISP's I can log into just for an Email address and newsgroups I can actually use !

thanks in advance !

Answer:problems with Email client

I'm confused, is BT/Yahoo your DSL provider? You can keep using them if they provide you with a reliable connection. You can get your email from anywhere...hotmail, fastmail, oddpost, etc...newsgroups might be a bit tougher...if you don't mind using a client, look up "free nntp" in google and you should get a list of newsgroup servers.

When I try to run Outlook, I get an error message that says: "Outlook requires Outlook Express 4.01 or greater". Apparently, I inadvertently deleted an Outlook Express library that Outlook shares and now Outlook will not run. The message says to run "IE5Setup.exe" to reinstall Outlook Express. I found the program on the CD, but it will not install because there is a later version of IE on the System. The OS is Windows XP Pro w/SP2 and the Outlook is part of Office XP Standard 2002.I found an article in the MS Knowledge Base regarding this topic, but it doesn't really tell you how to install Outlook Express in XP. I can't figure out low to download Express from the MS Download Center; so now I'm stuck.Has anyone encountered this problem or know how to fix it?Thanks

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/default.mspxOutlook Express doesn't have its own installer, it is an option of Internet Explorer. You will most likely need to reinstall the latest version of Internet Explorer with the Outlook package included.

I have no problem with Microsoft Outlook as I've got Office installed but what are other people using.

I actually don't mind Outlook myself -- I'm not a fan of "Web based" email clients and I really don't like "Windows Live".

I am looking for the best free email client. Have tried gmail, hotmail, and a couple of others even mozilla? can't even think of its name right off hand. I am thinking about changing from MS Office Pro 7 as I don't like the new ribbon bar, I like the older style better. Anyway to one of the free offices but they don't have an email client in them. Any suggestions. The one from mozilla, I could never get to work right for some reason.

Answer:looking for a good email client

After years of using and hating mail clients, I have finally settled on Web based mail as my method of sending and receiving mail. I never have to worry about mail getting corrupted or lost, etc...

That said, my favorite web based email remains Yahoo mail.

What is the best email client that is free? I had enough with Outlook Express. One minute I get an error and next minute it's all good. What the *censored* is that all about? I need to switch email clients. The only 2 things I change in the email options are to set read receipts and leave the email on the server. Whatever email someone would recommend, how do I set it in the email client? I also would like an email client that is 100% free, no shareware or anything. Just freeware. Here is the error that keeps coming on and off.The server responded with an error. Account: 'pop.rcn.com', Server: 'pop.rcn.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Cannot connect to POP server 207.172.157.20 (207.172.157.20:110), bind error 10055', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

Personally I prefer Gmail. The spam filter is very good, it's free with plenty of space and I can check my mail from any computer. But for an email client check out ThunderbirdT-bird is also portable. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/thunderbird_portable

I have Windows 8.1 with Office 2007 installed. I therefore use office outlook for my email.
I've been having some problems with it lately and ready to try a different email client. Can anyone suggest a good one to use where I won't have to change me email address and still has a spell checker?

Answer:Need a good email client

I use Outlook but if I didn't I would use Thunderbird. Have used it before and installed for a few clients and they like it. Mozilla Thunderbird

At my work latley, we have encountered a problem. See my boss gets TONS of emails that he needs to keep for records, and apparently Outlook 2003 only can hold 2Gigs of information according to Microsoft tech support. Which is very stupid and pointless in my opinion.

I have used Thunderbird at home for some time now, but I'm not sure if it has a storage limit either, I would love to use Thunderbird over Outlook.

The problem we encountered with outlook in that my boss exceeded the 2Gig limit and all of his emails would not come through and he lost a lot of important information. We now regularly back up the emails, but he would like to store as many as he wants instead of moving them onto his hard drive. And it would be easier for me, when I go to bak it up since I won't have to look all around his hard drive. I could just drag and drop it from his Thunderbird onto our server.

So if anyone knows if Thunderbird has a limit please let me know.

- Thanks

I am using Outlook Express 6. But recently it has started acting funny. Even otherwise I am not too fond of it. I have tried Thunderbird, but didn't like it. I have heard many good things about The Bat but I am not too sure about it.

Please suggest a FREE / PAID email client. Follwing are the basic requirements.

1. I use multiple email accounts.
2. I format my mails by opening the source as OE has limited WYSIWYG capability.
3. It would be great if I can preview the headers and delete directly from server.
4. Ability to use Digital Signatures would be great.
5. I don't use MS Office. So spell-checker in OE doesn't work. So a spell checker would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

Just to say thanks for the advice and help on IE on my son's new laptop. He has advised me of another "problem"..."I get the message (Either there is no default email client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run microsoft outlook and set it as the default mail client), every time i turn the machine on.". He says he doesn't want to run microsoft outlook!. He uses Tiscalli by the way, and I have guided him through setting OE as his default, but what I have told him doesn't appear to remove this message. Could anyone help - even if it appears to be very basic!Cheers!Any advice would be much appreciated

Answer:"EMail Client" Messages

Is MS Outlook installed? If so, set it as default, reboot and then set OE as default. That should cure things.

Is there a free email client that will receive and send via imap that will also allow me to import an old pst file from Outlook 2003?

Answer:email client and pst files

Mozilla Thunderbird may work for you if you still have Outlook installed on the computer. According to a MozillaZine article, Thunderbird imports the PST file contents through calls to Outlook. The article also explains why you may find it difficult to find any program that can directly import a PST file's contents without using an installed copy of Outlook.

Currently I am using Thunderbird, previously I used WLM. As far as WLM is concerned, I disliked it from the word go. Thunderbird, on the other hand, I liked from the start excepting for the fact that it seems to take forever (by today's computer standards) to load.

My question is: Is there a happy medium? Something like Thunderbird that loads quickly? I did the usual googling and came up with a number of names to programs that promise you the moon and sixpence: each one is the best ever and will never be eclipsed, ya, ya!

So I ask the experts here what opinions they hold of the various email clients. I don't care if it is free or I have to pay for it as long as it works like TB but loads quickly.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Searching for a new email client

I've been trying Thunderbird as I need a replacement for Outlook 2003, which has had Microsoft support dropped when they dropped Windows XP. I don't see any difference in speed between Outlook 2003 and Thunderbird. They both load equally fast.

I'm using my ISP's "POP" e-mail server. If you are using Yahoo, gmail, etc that may take longer??

I am trying to delete a note using Thunderbird 1.0 or Outlook Express 6 from my gmail account and have not had success. I can send and receive in both clients and can delete the notes in the local client but can't get the deleted email to syn with the gmail server. The note stays in the InBox on the gmail server. Is this working as designed or am i missing something?

This question is what seems useful to ask after reading http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/537071/transferring-e-mail-system-from-old-xp-to-new-win-8-computer/

Why or what is the advantage of using a separate email client software program, when webmail lets you do everything(?) that you would want without installing an email client on your computer.

Answer:Why a separate email client?

There are those of us that rather have the email on our computers and not stored on a server. There are times I want to read my email while off-line. Some people like to integrate their email into their calendar client as well. Those are just three things you can't do with webmail.I'm sure there are a lot more, that I either don't do or use. Or don't come to mind at the moment. Not dire, but what if the server is down when you want to look at an email you have read but need to refresh your memory. That has happened to me more than once in my email use career.

Hi,

I recently installed mozilla firefox as an alternative to IE and Netscape (a resource hog).

I used to use Netscape mail as my email client. I don't want to use Outlook.

Can anyone recommend a good, reliable email client?

Thanks.

Hi everyone: I need to be able to choose my default email client to Outlook if possible so I can have it work ok with an application that needs to 'see' the default email client in order to send emails via it
(It sends invoices as attachment and is a Filemaker runtime solution).
It is not showing any email client in 'default programs'
Any suggestions gratefully received as I'm banging my head on this one!
Kind Regards,
Pete

Answer:Win 10 & 7 email client missing

Hi Pete.

When you say Outlook I just want to be sure we are talking the same thing.

There is the Windows 10 Mail app. (some have even referred to this as Outlook.)

There is the Outlook mail app that you can install on Windows 10 and phones.

There is Outlook.com which is a web portal access through a browser or other mail client.

and finally there is Outlook 20xx that is either part of Office you purchase or Office 365 that you lease.

Which Outlook do you have?

[RANT]In spite of all the wonderful new features in Windows 7, the decision to exclude an email client has to be the most assenine ever. Because of this, I have gone back to Vista for now. If I wanted a third party email program, I would have done it already. If I wanted to use web based email, I would have switched years ago.

I did try the Windows Mail from Vista hack in seven and even though it let me send and receive emails it was not 100% functional. Besides, I should not have to hack a new OS to get feature that has been included in every version prior to this one.

I purchased four copies of Windows 7, installed on three computers, removed from 2, the remaining computer has office 2007 so seven will stay on it. I just hope this gets fixed in first service pack, if not this could be the end of the road for me and MS. Yes, it is that big of a deal breaker to me.[End RANT]

Answer:MS, I want an email client included in Win 7.

You can download the new Windows Live Mail very easily.

What email client would you most recommend for a senior who is new to computing and wants to send some basic email? I was figuring she'd probably just use Outlook Express since it's already on the computer and it's integrated with Windows, but although I haven't used it for awhile myself, I think it may be somewhat confusing for a new computer user. I was thinking maybe I could find some kind of theme for Thunderbird, but again, it may be somewhat confusing. I found FamilyMail, but it appears that their website is gone. Any suggestions? Free would be best.

Answer:Best Email Client For Seniors

Have you considered browser based webmail? Or is there a reason you you want a client? Possibly so that emails can be composed off line then sent? Just wondering what all the specific needs are, beyond the preference of free, to help refine the possibilities.

Hi,

I just got a new computer with windows 10 and set up the email client. I cannot find an option that makes the client actaully download email from the email server (verizon). Is there such an option in Windows 10? If not, is there another mail client available to use?

Thanks

Answer:windows 10 email client

You have to download it from Microsoft. It's called Windows Live mail. Here's the link.
