Firefox slow to load

Question: Firefox slow to load

I'm running Firefox 3.6.3 on Windows XP Home Edition.

It used to load OK, although it was never sparklingly fast. Lately it has slowed dramatically and takes a minute or sometimes 2 to load up. I've tried clearing the cache, but it made no difference. Once it is loaded it is OK.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions about what might be the problem.

Preferred Solution: Firefox slow to load

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I run both IE 8 and Firefox on my Dell Dimension system. I'm having problems now with both browsers taking forever to load. This may be a virus or network problem. IE 8 just loaded now after 15 minutes (exactly - I timed it).

Details:
- Once it's loaded once, both browsers load in normal amounts of time.
- I haven't downloaded any new add-ons lately unless one browser or the other installed one in the background.
- The problem just started today after a reboot.
- I've also noticed that my network icon in the taskbar doesn't show up anymore when I first boot but by the time IE opens, it has showed up.
- Using ipconfig, I did determine that I am on the network and connected immediately after boot up (router also shows me connected immediately).
- I've tried running IE from the command line with iexplore.exe -extoff. It didn't make any difference. I don't know if this works with IE 8 though.
- When I click to open either web browser, the process shows up right away in Task Manager and remains.
- I have all the latest updates to both browsers that I know of.
- I've run a complete system scan with McAfee (fully updated as of today.)

Now I've run out of ideas on what to try. I appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Alec

I have a strange issue where every webpage (whether via Firefox 3.5.2 or IE8) will always load slower on my Windows 7 system as compared to my Macbook Pro.

Both computers are wirelessly connected. I've ran speedtests on both systems, and both come out the same -
5.75 Mb/s (down)
.95 Mb/s (up)
22ms latency

But, for some reason, on the Windows 7 system, it always takes longer to open up webpages - usually by about 1-2 seconds, and sometimes by 5-7 seconds.

On the Macbook, some images and text will almost immediately appear, then fill in very quickly. On the Windows 7 system, I'll have a blank screen for a second or two, and then the images and text fill in slowly. If I were to venture a guess, on average, I think the Windows 7 machine renders pages at 80% the overall speed as the Macbook Pro.

Any idea what it could be? (I tried changing the pipelining values in Firefox and the initialpaint.delay value to 0, but it makes no difference.)

My Firefox 3.6 is slow to load when i first try to open it. Other times it is really good. I`m on Windows XP Home Edition service pack 3. Any clues please?

Answer:Firefox slow to load on first try

How many addons are installed and enabled? Any new ones?

Do you have Firefox set to open a single blank tab when you start, or are you using the session manager that reopens all the tabs from your last browsing session?

Do you have any other programs running when you open Firefox?

Do you have the setting to 'clear history when Firefox closes' enabled in Tools > Options > Privacy?

When you close Firefox, does it minimize to the system tray (this is an option enabled by using an addon) or does it close properly (no firefox.exe in Task Manager)?

I use Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron laptop, and have had problems getting Firefox to load. I was advised on another forum to uninstall Firefox, reinstall to Firefox (Firefox 25) and make sure all the administrator boxes were unchecked. I've done this, but it still takes Firefox at least a minute to come up after I connect to the internet and click on the Firefox icon. If I right click on Troubleshoot Compatibilities, I get a long message that has something to do with Games Legacy Hangs and a lot of + signs. Of course, I cannot get this message to come now to paste into this email. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello.

My Acer 3002LC laptop isn't particulary fast, but Firefox 2 take a very long time to load. I've used "Fire-tune". Does anyone have any other ideas as to how to improve its performance?

I attach a "Hijack" log for interest.

Thanks.

Answer:Firefox 2 Very Slow to Load

try fasterfox....

http://fasterfox.mozdev.org/installation.html

there is also a guide to speed up firefox manually here

http://forevergeek.com/geek_resources/speeding_up_firefox.php

you can also change/increase the amount of memory/ram that firefox can use....this would be based on how much memory you have installed

I am trying to access the following XML feed:

http://xml.pinnaclesports.com/xmlfeed.asp

But Firefox says it cannot load the live bookmark...

The top of the feed says this:

As of May 2nd, 2005 the User-Agent field of all HTTP-Headers must be set. Any string will do.

What do I do here?

Also, Thunderbird takes an incredibly long time to load up with the little status bar on the bottom. I compact folders and delete stuff regularly but it doesn't matter. It lags forever before the messages in the Inbox appear. Any solution to this?

TIA

In Firefox, go to Tools> Add-ons and disable all your extensions. Restart Firefox
and see if it loads faster. If it does, the re-enable each extension

After my computer has been off all night, my first boot up in the morning always leads to both FF and WLM taking an inordinately long time to load. However after the first time, subsequent load ups are normal. Strangely, when I return in the evening and boot up again, everything's fine....despite the length of switch off being practically the same as the overnights time. Anyone any ideas?

I use google.co.uk/firefox as my browser homepage. On initial start-up it usually takes about 15 seconds to load, and then gets quicker - just 2 seconds. But if I keep closing the browser to do other work and then open Firefox again, it often takes up to 25 seconds to load the homepage from then on until the end of the session. Is there any reason for this, and can it be avoided?
I should add that the speed of loading web pages is not affected by the slow loading of the home page.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Answer:firefox 6 google homepage slow to load

The slow loading of FF is often related to issues with your FF profile.
Try downloading and running (no installation necessary) Speedyfox enter link description here
to tidy up your Firefox profile.
It may help speed things up a bit.

If you are using the same version from two years ago suggest you move to a more recent version.

Any Add-ons installations or updates at about the time the problem started? Have you tried Firefox's Safe Mode?

Posting this from my work machine as I am having issues from home. This started recently that when I open a new Firefox window, it takes about 20 - 30 seconds before I see anything load for the initial or homepage (Yahoo). If I click the X to stop the load and type in a specific URL or select one from my favorites, it loads almost immediately. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Firefox to see if that would fix it, but no joy. When I did that, I did NOT delete my user information. Not sure if that makes a difference.

So, then I went to post a question here, it takes 20-30 seconds and then I get the following error message:

Connection Interrupted

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

Any ideas? HJT log below.

I'm having problems with both Firefox and Chrome. Both are often, but not always, very slow to load websites. With Firefox I get a spinning green circle. With Chrome I get a spinning circle, too. I've no clue what the problem with Chrome is. It can hang and take so long to load a site that I have to close and start over. With Firefox it can be bad but not as bad as Chrome can be.

I don't know but suspect that, with Firefox, there's a lot of media content that causes it to load slowly. E.g., with newssites there are often multiple videos that play automatically and ads.

Any advice on how to address this issue?

Thank you.

I think this started when I went to a bank website and received a popup asking for an updated email address. I received notification of a new email right after, stating something like thanks for signing up for Scorecard. I tried contacting the company by phone, and they asked for my bank account number. I asked what bank and they couldn't tell me. Nada, you're not getting my bank or bank account number. I contacted my bank and they know nothing about this company and are investigating.

Since then, I've been getting lots of unwanted email from a variety of companies all over the world. Firefox is also slow to load links many times.

I'm using 64-bit version of Windows 10, have 8GB RAM, FF 49.0.2, use gmail.

I tried Adwcleaner and Malwarebytes anti-malware (I have the paid version, that runs all the time in the tray). Didn't find anything wrong, but problem persists.

Can someone help?

Thanks

Well, It was a few days ago where my firefox started lagging, acting really slow and stuff. Eventually, it was hard for pages to even load, and many sites took minutes to load. I managed to get on google, (seems to be the only site that works), downloaded Spybot, and scanned. I found some regular files that were harmless, and one possible hijacker. I just sent them away, and the possible hijacker was stored safely by Spybot. Then, I tried to download hijackthis, the official site wouldn't load, and i went to Cnet to download it, I got a 0 byte file that says it's not a compatible system32 file (or something). Then I downloaded from majorgeeks, I unzipped the file, and it says theres an error (really sorry, I can't remember most of these messages). I restarted in safe mode, and I got the little bubble that said that Windows Security Center is unable to work, Click this bubble to fix this problem. I click it, and click fix now. It says that Windows Security Service is unable to start whenever I click it. I haven't gotten any farther than this, I don't know what to do. I can't post a hijackthis log because I can't really work this out.. Any help?

ok this is gonna be a bit long but i want the details there. the issue pc is my old pc. it has windows 7 its an asus msn-la motherboard i cloned this drive and used it in my new pc. after a few months my new pc's drive died and i took the old drive from the issue pc(witch was not giving issues at this time) and stuck it into my new pc until my replacement drive came. when i got the replacement drive i cloned the drive again onto the replacement drive and then put the new drive in the new pc had no issues there. put the old drive back into the issue pc (this is when issues started) the pc booted up to the windows desktop loading screen fast but once it got there it sat there for like 5 min before loading into windows. once it loaded into windows it was un usable for around 10 min while it loaded background stuff. once it finally loads into windows if i try to open anything its still responding extremely slow. is there anything i could do to fix this or is this going to me a re install only situation? i did try to use a windows 7 disk to do a startup repair but it claimed i couldn't do it because i dident install from that disk.

Greetings gurus. Internet trouble. As the title says, my mail will not load in any browser. Page load is very slow and most things time out at least once. AT&T ran line tests on DSL and everything was clean. Not sure how this could be. Speedtest was run many times and no probs. I even did some gaming which strains everything with no problems. I'm open to the possibility of a virus. Ran Avira and MBAM but haven't gone further. Strangely the wife's Facebook games are a no-go. Also, wireless devices work fine. Heeeeelp!

Some websites, for example:
http://www.colonialfirstate.com.au/ and
http://postbillpay.com.au

do not load in my newly installed IE7.

The error message says:

This program cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.
Retype the address.
Go back to the previous page.
More information

But the same websites load OK in Firefox.

I have fiddled around with the security settings etc., but still no joy.

I did not have such a problem with IE6.

I also use Maxthon Browser from time to time. But since that is based on IE engine, even that will not show some websites.

Can somebody suggest a solution?

The only Firewall that I use is WinPatrol. I clean up Malware once in a while with AdAware SE.

Answer:Websites Will Not Load in IE, But Will Load in Firefox

Hello, This is not an answer to your question, I just wanted to say that 'WinPatrol' is not a firewall.

Hey.My computer has been operating excruciatingly slow over the past few months, and I have no idea why. I'm pretty new to computers, as far as, being able to fix them myself. I run ESET-NOD32 as anti-virus; Zone Alarm as a firewall; and Prevx. I also regularly scan with Ad-Aware SE, Spybot- S&D, AVG, and Spyware Blaster (which I don't think that I am using correctly).I followed the steps that you have outlined in the "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting" but was unable to get the on-line scanners to work (all 3). I was using IE at the time. All my scans come up clean, but programs are loading too slow, or not at all. I recently uninstalled and wiped all my firefox settings after installing a addon call ghostborwser (or something similar) it has a icon of Casper the Friendly ghost to represent it. It Removed all my colour and images form ALL websites visited it was suposed to be (I assumed anyways) like a 'bosskey to hide the browser/make it invisible, after the colour faded from my world I uninstalled the Addon and restarted firefox and the colour and images were still gone so I uninstalled firefox and erased all of my settings out of the Docs setting folder (Exept for backing up my bookmarks)and used ccleaner to purge the rgistery of firefox enteies to start fresh.

I then reinstlled firefox 2.0.0.14 and tried loading it I got the

"firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Message restarted and got the same I rebooted and still the same message
I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times still and still get:

firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Any ideas?

Hello guys,
I'm making this thread to share with you this extension, which let you load or save preferences into Mozilla Firefox and Firefox-based browsers.
This extension can be very important when we use mobile devices, because when we use them we can't access to the directory of our Firefox profile.

Hi there, please can you help?
I realize this BSOD might be a commonly reported problem but the issues here seem not to have been addressed specifically by other threads so I hope I haven't opened a new thread unnecessarily. Anyhow, here goes...
Various pc problems have arisen since coming home from holiday last week:

Background: 2 months ago: installed samsung SSD to run a new install of Win 7 64bit - on Asus P5NE-SLI with newly installed AHCI controller card. Successful after some troubleshooting; ran fine for several weeks.

PC left for 2 weeks while on holiday: on return a few days ago pc had problems on start-up: blank screen; no/slow start-up then BSOD attached.
The problem now is specifically a start-up issue: very slow to boot windows; if I hit F8 or del then BIOS loads very slowly, if at all; windows loads but freezes part way through. It DOES eventually load but it doesn't seem stable: yesterday the pc restarted unprompted.
The clock time was incorrect by about 20minutes when I got home from holiday (cmos battery?)

So far, I have (in chronological order)...
cleaned out dust, checked for shorts and loose wires
run Prime95 stress tests: seems OK - no crashes; Speed Fan recorded CPU temps of >50C before I closed the program. On idle CPU is now 37C; GPU 47C
memtest run overnight: 7 passes no errors;
updated GPU driver; run Furmark GPU stress test: all fine!
searched for other driver updates - none required (at least through windows)
run Sams... Read more

Answer:Slow start-up; crawls into BIOS setup; then slow to load windows

The problem is with your usb hub, or quite possibly a usb device that is plugged into it.
The fault is clearly sourced in the usb system though.
You may try updating your chipset drivers.
try rebooting with nothing plugged in but mouse and kb.

Running Win7x86, and it started getting extremely slow, within 2 days of this it started refusing to load at all.

The system is brand new (ready built from ebuyer), and the only alterations have been a sysfan, spare hdd, spare dvdrw.

When trying to load the boot screens take AGES, often sitting blank black for 2/3 mins. Then it sticks on the windows 7 flag for a few minutes and restarts. Upon restart it defaults to the repair centre, where the "windows is loading files..." bar slllooooowwwwlllyyy drags itself to full over 10 or so minutes.

I've managed a few successful start-up repairs, but to no improvement.

I would rather get this fixed myself than resort to the arduous process of ebuyer returns.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

R3BORN

Answer:Slow boot, followed by crash and reset. Very slow repair center load

Repair centre load quickly from disk. Currently running memory diagnostic - starting to suspect hdd issues

Earlier today, my PC went from being perfectly fine to being extremely slow. I had a hunch that it may have been a virus or some serious malware so I tried to open up Malware and Ad-aware but everything was 'not responding.'

I ended up powering off via holding button. When I tried to load up again, the PC loaded to the blue welcome screen, but from there, it just hanged. i could open task manager but I was unable to open file > new task or anything.

I was able to go into safemode and load up Malware and Ad-aware. I searched on the internet from my laptop about what could be causing this. I found that a virus named Nimda could be a culprit. I found a fix for it so I cancelled my scans and rebooted. This time, I let it sit there. Everything had loaded properly...35min later! From here, everything was very slow.

I tried to open certain things like start menu or my computer, and it ended up taking 2-3min for each action.

Also, task manager (even opening task manager took 4min alone) showed very low CPU usage (about 1-2%) and about 20% physical memory usage.

My computer specs:
Win7 x64
Intel Core2 E7200
4 gigs of RAM
ATI HD4870

So here I am, back in safemode, attempting to run the scans (using Malware bytes + ad-aware + spybot) on 2 of my harddrives.

If this does not work, does anyone have any advice or insight?

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Hi all, it's been a long time since I've posted since your site is so helpful just by searching it. (Sure wish I were still 37! haha) Anyways, I hope everyone is doing great and thanks in advance for donating your time to help peeps like me!

Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel Pentium M processor 1.6GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM

I update and run my AVG free and Spybot S&D at least once a week but something still seems to be lurking and slowing my computer down. I recently uninstalled Chrome though it was a lot faster and I really liked it but AVG in systray would notify me that it was using a lot of memory. I'm just trying to keep this laptop clean and running well until I receive my tax refund to buy a new laptop with Windows 7.
I don't think this is an urgent matter and I will patiently wait for help as I know there are people who need it a lot worse than I do!
Here is my HJT log and again, thank you so much for your help!

Hi guys I just bought a lenovo sl510 with win 7 professional and the win 7 loads extremely slow (takes aout 4 minutes to boot up) and running programs is a chore I click on a program and it takes at least a minute to 2 minutes to load a normal program like explorer or firefox or even notepad.  I just bought this computer 3 weeks ago and it was like this before I installed virus scan software.I had to install a program called game booster which ends unneccesary processes and clears up ram. Using that is the only way I can get my sl510 thinkpad to run at acceptable speeds but even thenI still get the occasinal hang and the occasional lock up..I should note this issue of slow boots and slow running existed BEFORE I loaded anything onto it.. any ideas how to resolve this??I've defragmented my hard drive, ran a disk scan, virus scan, registry clean and spyware scan I've increased my paging file manually. and eliminated several unneccesary prgrams from startup process.  any other thoughts??

Answer:sl510 slow boot slow load times

Hello Kamain, Have you been successful solving the slow response time issue? I face the same problem. While running the SL510 (2847, 6NG)  in safe mode (win7, 64) the performance is great. I am planning to stop each running process one by one. Thanks KM

I'm running Windows XP with an AMD Sempron 2.0 ghz Processor with 700MB Ram.

Firefox takes up all this computer power(I know that this is more common with the updated Firefox's but in my case it's still to an extreme). Firefox will stay open after I close it and I will have to use Windows Task Manager to fully close. I've switched to Google Chrome and it is quicker.

Any Java usage slows the computer down incredibly. Even in Chrome it's slow. I can't switch between programs nearly as smoothly as before. Basically everything takes forever now and my computer seems to strain under the workload of what use to be basic usage.

I found two Trojans with Kaspersky Trial scan and I thought that fixed the problem(I eventually got rid of Kaspersky because it was making my slow computer even slower.) Unfortunately I never wrote down their names because my parent dropped me on my head frequently when I was a child.

I've run all the scans and nothing has come up(to my basic and infantile computer knowledge). One problem with the scans was the MGtools would open briefly and the window would only just flash and then dissapear and nothing would run. I blame mostly Jesus for this but Buddha in his infinite wisdom and humbleness has also taken some of the blame.

If you people could help me out that would be great.

Hi, I have resurrected an old HP laptop I used years ago. The OS is XP version 2002 SP3.
My Sony Vaio has been diagnosed as too expensive to warrant repair
This laptop is very slow to load Windows and programs are very slow to open
Firewall is Avira. Malwarebytes and Spybot search and destroy are both loaded as is HJT
I have culled any programs that I do not expect to use in the near future
This seems to have helped and the computer is useable - but not much fun !!
I was expecting to post a HJT log but noted in the tutorials this program is not regarded too highly anymore
This is my first post and appreciate any assistance
I am currently in the Asia Pacific region so my normal Tech Shop assistance is not an option

My 18-month-old Dell Inspiron pc, running Windows 10, has suddenly become very slow to turn off, like about 10 minutes. It loads as quickly as before.
Before this occurred, for about a week Chrome had become very slow to load - about 20 mins - while there was no such problem with Firefox. I am in a slow area for broadband, and neighbours have been complaining of particularly slow speeds recently.
I ran a McAfee quick scan and nothing bad was found. I tried to run the free versions of Malware Bytes and Spybot but these persistently would not load. I tried to uninstall Chrome but could not - nor could I uninstall any other programme.
Any ideas?
Many thanks,

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Your log shows that you're using IObit Advanced SystemCare 4, so it's very possible that its use has damaged the Windows operating system and broken some of your programs.

If you've been using any other cleaner/booster/optimizer/tuneup type programs, that increases the risk even more of that occurring.

These programs do nothing to improve speed and performance nor perform "miracle cures".

Question: Can't load Firefox

Well, I've had the new laptop (with cursed Vista) for three days and already there're problems.

I've been using Firefox this evening but now I can't get it to start. There was a window which said Firefox is already running---but it's not---now, even that window doesn't appear; the little "busy circle" spins for thirty seconds then disappears. The task manager shows nothing running. I rebooted with same results. I decided to uninstall/reinstall but add/remove says I can't when Firefox is running---but it's not. It's not, I tell you, it's not.

There are other things I can't yet figure out but I'll leave those until later.

Answer:Can't load Firefox

in the task manager go to to the processes tab and look for firefox.exe if it is still there then firefox is running the background.

left click on it and click end process and this will stop Firefox.

you then should be able to reopen firefox and it begin to work.

hope this helps

This started with a message "Firefox could not install this item because of a failure in Chrome Registration" so I started a Google search for a solution and found one straight away - right click on Firefox icon and 'run as administrator'. Lots of folk saying, 'thanks, worked like a dream'. Unfortunately not for me.

I uninstalled, emptied the recycle bin and made sure no instances of Mozilla were in my file (as far as I could see) and reinstalled but the problem persists. I even tried to start FF in safe mode but my computer just shut down.

Any ideas? I'm in Vista (unfortunately)

thanks

Answer:Firefox will not load

Well, in my case started with the same thing, I scanned with my aplicattions (viruses, malware, etc) and now still does not load, but at least give some popup asking with what program I want to open it, so I click firefox and after clicking home it loads "perfectly". I have another problems with other programs/applications that does not load as a result of some broken links "virus" that I had been not able to fix, so my next step, backing up and fresh install. So, if you tryed some of this, and if your SO has been long time, start thinking in a fresh install.

I am running Windows XP and Firefox 3 when two days ago Firefox would not load. It starts to, by asking whether I want to resume or start a new session. I select start new. Then it just hangs. I go into Task Manager and it shows that firefox.exe is using about 50% CPU and 200MB memory but nothing is loading.

Any suggestions as to why this has just started to happen and more importantly, how do I get back to it working properly.

Thanks, Ray

The IE browser opens briefly, then closes immediately. Firefox crashes without even opening, whereas previously, it at least came up with a box saying that it had crashed.
I tried a system restore without luck and finally, via friend on MSN Messenger, managed to install and launch Opera. Since then, I have tried to download IE 8 and an earlier version of Firefox, but without success.
My Norton 360 2.0is also unable to scan my PC!
I have attached my HJ log. I do hope you are able to help.

Question: Firefox Won't Load

Hi again,After working on Mother-In-Law's computer, I seem to have been designated the official puter person in the family. I've told them to ask you guys, since you're the ones responsible for her machine being back on line, yet here I am again, hat in hand asking for help.Aunt Jean couldn't get her ad-aware to run. It always seemed to hang up at the same place. Also, she can't get Firefox to work even though she has removed and installed it several times. She has Win XP Pro w/ SP2. A search at Lavasoft suggested that I run chkdsk and defrag. Chkdsk found and repaired several clusters. I defragged, although there is very little on the HD (131 GB free space out of 145 GB). It also told me to change some Ad-aware settings, specifically, under "Scanning" to un-tick 'scan within archives' and under "Tweak-->Scanning Engine" to un-tick 'Unload recognised modules during scan,' This allowed me to run ad-aware successfully. However, Firefox is still a no go. I've installed and removed it several times. AJ has Norton Systemworks on her machine and after running their "Live Update," I've run Norton's WinDoctor a couple of times as well as Disk Doctor to no avail. As of now, I've followed all your Prep to posting steps and very little has been found by any of the malware programs you suggest (I expected to find lots of big baddies!):*Ad-aware found 3 tracking cookies (found in the run before I began your prep steps, found none the next tim... Hello Paul (the fixer), I am SifuMike and I will be helping you. Aunt Jean couldn't get her ad-aware to run. It always seemed to hang up at the same place. I am assuming you solved the Ad-aware problem. Ad-aware SE uses a lot of memory when it runs, so adding more memory or running it in Safe Mode may fix it. How to Reboot into Safe Mode tap F8 key during reboot, until the boot menu appears...use the arrow keys to choose "Safe Mode" from the menu......,then press the "Enter" key. Also, she can't get Firefox to work even though she has removed and installed it several times. She has Win XP Pro w/ SP2. This sounds like a firewall interfearing with Firefox. Try turning off the XP firewall, then see if can run FireFox. How to turn on or turn off the firewall in Windows XP She has "Earthlink Setup Files" in Add/remove programs. Uses TimeWarner's Roadrunner, so any reason I can't remove it?Also, something called Learn2 Player. Can I safely uninstall this one?You can uninstall "Earthlink Setup Files" and Learn2 Player. Also, Spyware Blaster is here. It is not in your log, so it must have been installed. SpywareBlaster is a great antispyware program that prevents the installation of spyware and other potentially unwanted software!******************Lets run some scans to make sure there is no malware lurking. You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan. Disable your antivirus program and go here to run BitDefen... Read more

Question: Firefox won't load

This is getting a wee bit irritating.

Firefox does not want to load at times.

I have tried reinstalling it and it does the same thing. Tried a system an XP System Restore to before it acted up to no avail

If I have it open and try to open up Firefox again to have a couple of windows open the 2nd attempt won't load. The first window will work. But then when I close the first window out it won't load either.

If I go into the task manager and close the process I can get it to load but still can only have one page. Running XP Home Edition

Any thoughts???

Question: Firefox Won't Load

Hi -- New kid on the block here. I've got a basket of problems that all may be related, but I'll start with the most obvious one. I've been using Firefox for years very satisfactorily. Somehow, this past week it has gone bad (maybe the v 3.5.6 or whatever), and it would not work at all, so I uninstalled it and then downloaded and reinstalled. Now after it is downloaded and ready to install, I get the following message: title "Firefox .exe application error"; message, "The application was unable to start correctly. (0X0000056)." What does this mean and how to resolve the error? Any help would really be appreciated. rfb100

Firefox White - then BlackI have used Firefox in preference to IE for about 2 years. Just recently Firefox occasionally refuses to open. It is in that state right now. There is an empty window frame (with the desktop inside it) and when the close button is pressed, the whole inside goes black. Then it justs sits there - all black. Only Ctrl-Alt-Del gets rid. I use RoboForm which I find really useful and which does not work on Opera or Chrome so I am loath to change and keep going back to FF in case it works. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Getting teed off. What can I do? I have uninstalled and reinstalled FF a couple of times to try to cure it to no avail. Any ideas?

Question: can't load Firefox

I recently did a system restore to fix a problem and Firefox wouldn't load from the desktop shortcut - it says it's invalid- can't find. It is c:\Program files\mozilla firefox\firefox.exe which seems right. I can't find a Firefox.exe folder in Mozilla folder though (except in a text file). It won't load from all programs or run either. I have an Intel D845gvsr motherboard XP OS 512mb RAM computer. Is there an easy fix? I have a slow dial-up connection and it would take a long time to download Firefox again. Another option would be to restore again with an older restore point if that would help but I would really like to learn how to fix this. thanks

All other programs work. It seems to be just browsers functioning incorrectly.

Safari had similar issues.
Chrome clunks and clicks then eventually loads.
IE works first time! I hate IE.

I wondered could it be a firewall conflict? I use zonealarm free.

Please help.

Thanks.

Firefox wouldn't load up, when trying to launch Firefox error message came up and it said “couldn't load XPCOM”.

Answer:firefox will not load up

Using a different Browser download the latest version of Firefox and save to your Downloads Folder, then install it. No need to try to uninstall your present (broken) Firefox.

Hey guys,

Seems like quite an active forum here. I've run into a little problem today I'm hoping someone can help me with: I am using Firefox (1.05, I think) as my browser, only since this morning it won't load more than once.

What I mean is, when I boot my system (running Win XP) I can load Firefox either by using a shortcut or navigating to the executable directly. If I want to open another window (either because I want 2 windows at once, or took a break from browsing and then came back) it doesn't load up: precisely nothing appear to happen. This happens whether I use the shortcut or executable. Firefox doesn't appear among running processes, either. This problem has persisted despite several reboots.

Unless there was some Windows Update automatically downloaded last night, I've not changed my configuration for a while. Spyware and virus checkers come up clean.

Any ideas, anyone?

Question: can't load Firefox

I recently did a system restore to fix a problem and Firefox wouldn't load from the desktop shortcut - it says it's invalid- can't find. It is c:\Program files\mozilla firefox\firefox.exe which seems right. I can't find a Firefox.exe folder in Mozilla folder though (except in a text file). It won't load from all programs or run either. I have an Intel D845gvsr motherboard XP OS 512mb RAM computer. Is there an easy fix? I have a slow dial-up connection and it would take a long time to download Firefox again. Another option would be to restore again with an older restore point if that would help but I would really like to learn how to fix this. thanks

Answer:can't load Firefox

Try following the path you posted in search...then rite clik that .exe and create a shortcut to it...name it different so you know which is which...

Working on a computer for a friend. the problem is Internet explorer nor Firefox (new install from USB drive) will load, I get the error that there is a problem and the program has stopped working. I downloaded AVG for Free 9.9 (can't install no internet connection), same for Spybot Search and Destroy. Also downloaded Malwarebites, but could not install - I try and run as administrator and the hour galss appears for a second like it was going to start the installation and just quits. Was able to run Defoggger, HijackThis, and DDR. Extracted GMER but when I try to run the program I get the same error as IE and Firefox. Since I cannot get to the internet (I am connect to my network and have local and internet capability), I had to download all of the programs and install via usb drive. When I boot the machine I get an error that says "MSASCui.exe failed to initialize", and Windows Security Center wont run properly either - it also states Windows defender stopped. Tried to do a system restore, but Vista says that there are no restore points available.

On the DEsktop there is a shortcut for the following program:

c:\Program Data\08517526\08517526.exe.

Norton 360 will not run.

UPDATE: changed name of gmer.exe and was able to run and have attached the file - ark.txt, also attached the attach.txt file from DDR.

Hello, I am hoping someone can help. Yesterday I turned on my laptop and Firefox won't connect, my internet is wirelessly connected and works fine on all other browsers except firefox which constantly says, 'cannot connect to the server'. I have not updated it or renewed my internet protection so I uninstalled firefox in order to re-install but now if I go on the webpage it will not open. The pop up opens but is blank and I cannot download it. I have tried internet explorer and google crome but the same thing happens. Any help welcome!

Answer:Firefox Will Not Load

I find that you need to delete your firefox profile in the following locations
c:\users\<your name>\AppData\Local\Mozilla
c:\users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla

If you need to keep your bookmarks, copy the *.json files somewhere else.

This is a repost of a 6/15 post deleted without a response. Problem dates from the May Microsoft security update. The computer was unusable until I disabled Defender, which ran at 100% cpu. I use Firefox and Eudora. Firefox often takes 2 minutes to launch and navigates slowly. WMP and Flash use 100% cpu and won't display video. IE does not display most graphics, just frame with X box inside. IE links don't work ("page cannot be displayed" message)Ran cleanmgr, scanned with AdAware SE and Spybot (very slow). I was unable to use Panda Anti Virus or Bit defender because IE links are blocked (Page cannot be displayed). Unable to use Housecall on Firefox because Housecall cannot locate Java. Eset NOD32 is installed and updates daily, scans all files daily using 100% cpu during scan. Ran McAfee Stinger. MS firewall is disabled. I'm using the hardware firewall in my 2-wire router. Ran Autoruns; the log is attached. Ran Hijack This. I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this. If not, please let me know.

There is a website that I want to go to:
Morelia Viridis Forum Forum

It absolutely will not load in firefox on this laptop. If I switch over to internet explorer, it does load. What possible reason would cause firefox to fail to load a website?

I've ran spyware and it comes up clean. My Kaspersky scans turn up clean. I have deleted my caches (I think).

Any ideas?

Thanks

I've tried both Firefox and IE7, and they are both having the same problem.I will load up certain pages fine, but then others come up as "Page cannot be displayed" . If I try those same pages later they sometimes work, and the ones that worked previously no longer do.I just recently had to reformat my computer and reinstall everything. These pages were working fine before, but could that be something to do with it?

Hio!

So, my browser won't open since recently. I've been using Firefox via Sandboxie and neither would open, so I uninstalled both programs and reinstalled just Mozilla but that didn't help.
Explorer is working just fine.
When I open Windows Task Manager it displays firefox as an active process with 32.428 K of memory usage but not as a current application obviously.
I tried runing firefox in safe mode and sometimes it opens, sometimes not.

So, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated since I really don't like using Explorer!

I had the Windows 7 2012 malware and i folowed the directions to get rid of it. It seems to be gone but now I can't open Internet explorer or firefox when I click on the desktop icon or from the start menu. Sometimes if I reboot my computer it will open but the internet runs really slow and if I restart my computer again the problem re occurs. I cleared all the history and cookies to see if that helped but it did not. This is a work computer so it is of the upmost importence to get this fixed ASAP. Any advice on how I can prevent this from happening in the future would be much appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,
This problem just started yesterday. We have a desktop and laptop. Both run IE7. We can't get to google on either computer. I downloaded firefox on the laptop and still can't load google. We can't use the little google search box either. I don't know if this matters or not but we ran cleanup on both computers over the weekend and on Monday for regular maintenance. I think there are a few other pages not loading but can't think of them right now.
Thanks,
Melanie

Answer:Google won't load in IE7 or Firefox

Hi Melanie, welcome to TSF...

are you able to ping google? To test, please try the following:

- Click Start -> Run -> type:
cmd
- Click OK
- At the flashing cursor type:
ping www.google.com
- Hit enter on your keyboard

Please post back the results.

Also, have you tried temporarily disabling your firewall to see if you can get access to Google then?

Several days ago, my computer froze and had several issues with drivers that I was able to fix in safe mode (with networking). I thought everything was fine, until I tried to use IE (ver. 9) and Firefox because a website I needed wasn't compatible with chrome. Anyway, no page would load, and it wouldn't even get to a point where it stopped loading. However, in safe mode, both firefox and IE work fine. Ran anti-malware and avast, no luck. I have posted my hijackthis file in this OP. Is it a proxy thing? Is it from my previous troubles? HELP.

I'm having a real pain with my web browsers. I'm using dial-up 31.2 kbps, and the connection is just fine (I can update anti-virus & anti-spyware programs) but I can't surf the web with IE or Firefox. If I use Firefox, when I enter the web address, the browser just stays blank and the connection indicator says it's done loading already. If I open up IE, it will search for the website, but then crash (the error message indicates it's code 0xc0000005, with all the other addresses at 0). My OS is XP Pro.

I think it might have to do with some anti-spyware programs I put in: either Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Webroot Spy Sweeper, or Secretmaker (I really think it's Secretmaker, and have since uninstalled that program, but I can't solve the problem). What's really odd is that I CAN BROWSE using the browser on RealPlayer 10.0, which is what I'm using to post. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Firefox won't load pages like mozilla, facebook, and comcast. IE has no problem with these websites. After doing everything firefox troubleshooting suggests to do when this problem arises, I am still unable to load these pages. I don't have Adblock, so that can't be the issue either.

I have restared my computer, checked my proxy, disabled add-ons, cleared cookies and cache, ran malwarebytes, reinstalled firefox, ran CCleaner, uninstalled itunes (my latest download).

What could be the problem or what could I be doing wrong?
