Preferred Solution: Opera Intergrate With Free Download Manager Fails?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So, apparently Microsoft distributes it's DreamSpark downloads through a piece of software made in 1999.

Here is the link for your convinience:

I traced the problem back to the fact that Secure Download Manager relies on Internet Explorer which in my case has an outdated version of javascript for the download page.
I suspect that the script stops at .trim() which requires javascript 1.8 according to this page, but IE 8 only has version 1.5.

I tried updating to IE 11 but it requires some updates that I found very problematic to install.

Is there any way around this?

A free download manager designed to integrate seamlessly with Windows 7 is now available from Microsoft. Dubbed the Microsoft Download Manager, the utility is designed, as the label implies, to help users administer their downloads beyond the boundaries of the browser. More often than not, downloading very large files can be problematic, especially in the context of an unreliable connection. It is precisely in scenarios like these that a download manager will carry out any download tasks to the end, unlike browsers missing this functionality.

?The Microsoft Download Manager enables you to download files from the Internet in a more reliable and faster way than using a browser alone. Using the Download Manager makes it easier to download large files such as an application or multimedia files,? Microsoft explained.

According to the Redmond company, the Microsoft Download Manager comes to the table with support not only for Windows 7, but also for Windows Vista and Windows XP SP2 and SP3. Microsoft Download Manager was designed to work with Internet Explorer 8, IE7 and IE6 but also with Firefox 3 and Firefox 2.

Some of the MSDN and TechNet subscribers have issues with the Akamai Download manager while downloading subscription files. What is Akamai Download manager & why do I have to use it? To help you download large files with reduced chance of interruption, some downloads require the use of the Akamai Download Manager. You can easily pause, resume, and stop the download process. Use the Download Manager for efficient installations, time-saving features, and automatic restarting if the download process is interrupted.
MSDN and TechNet has provided Akamai Download Manager help with answers to various issues. One can refer to it at Akamai Download Manager help
But for me none of these helped as I tried to download the subscription files from MSDN/TechNet. The Akamai Download Manager did not even appeared or offered to install, though it has been installed since long time. Had faced the issue earlier too in Windows 7 & followed similar steps. I’m using Internet Explorer. And now on Windows 8.1 Pro Preview running IE 11 Preview, happened the same. I checked with security settings, still did not help. Then tried these steps which allowed me to download subscription files using Akamai Download Manager on IE.
Screenshots are from IE11-
Open your MSDN subscription page in IE, and from Tools > Click on ‘Compatibility View Settings’ and add to Compatibility View.
Since you have opened the MSDN page, it’ll list Microsoft.... Read more

Hey, I was wondering what you guys opinion on what the best download manager was for me on dial-up. I want something with no ads/spy/adware I want something that can queue, and pause downloads, it would also be nice if it could integrate into mozilla and do a miror search but that would be asking too much.

To put it simply I want a free DAP that doesnt have all the adware to back it up.

thanks a lot to anyone who knows of something like this.
PS. I have looked at the free ware database thing in the stickies section... but there is too many choices for me to figure out which one is actually any good or not.

Answer:Best free download manager?

Try searching on, they have alot of free/shareware for download managers. I found a few there, but IMO, I believe DAP to be the best.

I have been running into problems with my satellite server in that they only allow 200MB/day download/uploads.  My computer is set to automatically download updates from Microsoft and Norton Anti-virus.  Apparently it downloaded 173MB a few days ago and coupled with a few smaller downloads, that put me over the top for the next 24 hours and connectivity slowed down to about 12kb!  I am still at a loss as to figure out what program downloaded 173MB?  This was done while I was not using my computer, but it was still connected to the internet.  How does one find that out?  I checked in the add/remove programs to see what, if anything, was added to Microsoft or Adobe updates and couldn't find anything.  Anyway, the satellite provider suggested that I get a Download Manager and when I Googled it there were so many choices that I had no idea which one was the most user-friendly and one that I could set to do the automatic downloads between 3:00AM and 6:00AM as that is the "free" time in the service that I use.  Any suggestions from satisfied Download Manager users out there?  Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone! I've been using FDM (Free Download Manager) for about one year now. Just recently, I visited its website and McAfee SiteAdvisor went wild. This time I went to check what McAfee had to say about FDM and it reported that there were about a billion malware infected downloads.
Can anyone verify where or not FDM is malware or a clean, helpful download program (it is great with the downloading speed; however, if it's malware, it has to go).

Answer:Free Download Manager

The top site in Google is a dangerous place to go when Googling "FDM". See if either one of these is the program you have. They earned the Green Check from Site Advisor.

I've run into a problem using FDM that I'd appreciate some input on. I'll use a specific example. Went to to download the win98se Service pack 2.1a. I entered the URL in the FDM "Add Download"panel as instructed in the "Help" file. Here is the URL
What I get is a small file labeled "Downloadget.php" instead of the service pack executable file (which BTW, is a much larger file.

Obviously, I'm doing something wrong, but have been unable to figure out what. Any ideas?

I had Free Download Manager on my old computer (Windows XP Pro, 32 bit) and it automatically popped up whenever I wanted to download something.  This worked out fine because I could schedule a big download between 2:00-6:00AM so that I wouldn't use up my 200MB quota for a 24 hour period and end up with no internet service from Hughes until I'd paid the time penalty.  I now have Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.  Recently I download the Free Download Manager and can't seem to figure out how to get it to load automatically whenever I want to do a download.  I can't figure out how to use it at all.  Is there someone out there who is familiar with the settings for Download Manager who could explain to me how to do what I'd like it to do?  I've gone through the settings and can't seem to find just what it is that will do the trick.  Thank you

There is a product, called GetRight, that manages downloads and you can pause them and it stops in case you need to. It'll also pause if for some reason your internet disconnects. is the URL for it. There's a free version that doesn't ever run out. I use it all the time because I, unfortunately, can only get dial up where I am and it's a life saver. And it's for Vista too, so you'll be okay.

Hi,I recently download the lastest version of Flashget 3.7. So far, I love it, but some people claims that flashget contain spyware, is it true? They claimed that it constantly connect to a china IP address. If it's true, then could you guys please recommend a good download manager that is free from spyware? Thanks.

Answer:Looking for a download manager that is free from spyware

Any sort of malware on your computer now may also allow others to be there. I'd reload my os from oem media to be sure but that is me.Sun, now oracle has a good one that should be secure enough. Any deal like that is a target for hackers. Flashget is one of them that could be hacked. The problem falls back on to some of the places you go to get some files. Files from any but the most trusted places are suspect. All files ought to have a way to determine if it is genuine by a md5 or shal or other way to diag the file. Hang up and live.

Dear all,I just visited the mozilla downloads section and saw this extension. i have installed it but am unsure as to how this will improve my downloading experience. can someone please explain to me how flash got works with free download manager and how that would change the way i download things at the moment (like for example an extension file from Mozilla!)thanks

Answer:Flash got extension and free download manager

A download manager ensures that if you lose your connection whilst downloading then, on reconnection, the manager will pick it up again where it left off - no need to start all over again at the beginning. Some managers, such as LeechGet - click here - will also organise different types of download into different folders. If you're on broadband, then a manager is superfluous.

Seems like a Windows Defender definition update triggered this warning since I now can't find any problems on my PC after scanning it with various tools.

I?ve already seen Paragon was giving Partition Manager Pro for free for a short while. I?ve downloaded and installed it successfully. Those who missed that day, can get it till October 25.
Here is the link: Paragon Partition Manager 9.5 As I can understand, they?ve just opened freeware downloads page. And sometimes commercial software will appear there for free. Very friendly I think for me it?s just like I earn 80 bucks for nothing (professional version of Partition Manager 10 costs $79.95)

So, what do we have here (taken from Partition Manager 10 site, but it works for 9.5):
Advanced Partitioning Operations: Enlarge NTFS partitions without rebooting Windows or interrupting your work, repartition hard disks without data loss, redistribute free space between partitions, merge two partitions to one etc.
Apple? BootCamp Support: Redistribute unused space between Mac? OS X and Windows partitions (great for me!)
Initial Backup Facility
Safe Defragmentation Mode
Full feature list is here . The difference is that 9.5 doesn?t support Windows 7.
The program runs on Windows 2000, XP and Vista (32 or 64 bit).
And Paragon provides user support only for the promo period. And only on Twitter . No WinPE included.
You will need to input your email on registration page to get a free serial ? that is your only payment for the soft.

Answer:Paragon Partition Manager 9.5 Professional Free download

The difference is that 9.5 doesn’t support Windows 7.

Actually - they don't claim it - but it does support Windows 7.

I have been using for a while on my 7 x64 - it works perfectly.

It is exactly the same build as the PM10

The only you don't get - is the WinPE disc and Adaptive restore feature. Run off the bootable Linux/dos cd from within the program to get it in bootable form.

Terriffic opportunity to get a great piece of software - Paragon are the best in Hard Disk Management.

I am really frustrated with my lenovo purchase - I find it crazy that you can not submit an EMAIL to lenovo to report a bug or two or ten in most of their bug infested software. In order of priority - here is my problems. If this is not figured out by someone you will lose a customer first and a telecom executive 2nd. 1. Vista SP1 fails.Download Fine.Install Fine.Reboot Starts.>>> LIST OF 100's of .DLLs that are being loaded on DOS like screen on 1st line>>> Hangs on performance monitor or something like that - Can not run recover- Must restore from Original Vista CD Not fun - applied every patch and driver update twice (and yes they seem to be updated once or twice a month) ridiculous! 2. HEY, HAVEN'T YOU HEARD THE WIRELESS MANAGER THAT YOU SUPPLY DOES NOT WORK PERIOD!!!!IT IS A RUNAWAY MEMORY PROCESS - EVEN WITH LATEST INTEL DRIVERS. ALSO BY THE WAY - THE WIRELESS DEVICE NEVER CONNECTS IN WIRELESS "N" MODE. This may be a Vista issue since the same intel controller works fine in both a dell and an HP in "N" mode, So whats up with "N" Support.    3. Diskkeeper is a lousy piece of software and all it is is a gimmick to buy something else you don't need. I keep on removing it and update keeps on putting it back. Hello, I need some advice on how to get my 'Free Download Manager' to download a LARGE download....

Problem: I have Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security 14
I got an e-mail form Trend Micro that they are no longer going to support this version, and my subscription is paid thru 12/28/2009. So, they are offering me a free upgrade to "Trend Micro Internet Security 16 for Dell".

Great, except this is a 48.4 MB and nearly impossible on dial-up:cry
Now, I did get the first part on the FDM, which was "EZ install .exe". When I double-clicked onto that, I got the "Receiveing Installation Program; Installation will begin when the download completes"

My problem is, the Download Manager did not pick this up.. and since it is only picking up 4kb a second, is there any way I can get the Download Manager to pick this up, even if I have to start all over again? I started it at 7:30, and so far it has downloaded 9.8 MB of the 48.4 MB needed at only 4 kb a second... Any suggestions? Once the EZ install .exe is double-clicked, there is no save, run, or anything, it just starts to load...

this may be an impossible task for me, on dial-up, and that is the biggest reason I downloaded the Download Manager...

Answer:Help with "Free Download Manager"

Are having trouble staying connected? If so, you can reconnect and tell FDM to download the file again. It should ask you if you want to restart, rename, or resume. Click resume and FDM should pick up from where it left off. You might try to find a friend that has broad band that can download the file for you and burn it to a CD. If that option isn't available then:

Make sure FDM is configured best for your situation.

Click "Options" then settings.
In the settings dialog window go down to "New Download" on the tree and select it.
Click on the "Advanced" button to the right of the "Set default download folder" button.
You're now in the "Default download settings" dialog window.
Under the "Connection" tab, make sure the "ignore all restrictions" option, at the bottom is checked and click "OK".
Now you're back in the "Settings" dialog, click on "Network" in the tree.
Make sure "Select mode to configure:" is set to "Heavy mode" and that the 3 options below that are checked. Make sure the "Decrease traffic usage on browser activity" is unchecked, click "OK".
Back in the main view mode, click on "Options" again, and select "Optimization master". You'll be presented a pop up dialog asking you to "Please select connection type". In your case it should probably be "56K Mod... Read more

I recently updated my OS. All my documents like music, pictures and files are there correctly. Some of my old game and programs like Steam booting correctly because they are in the Windows.old file because of the new OS. I was wondering if there is anyway I can just integrate these files so it would act like my computer previously, but just with the updated OS. Would a simple copy and paste of the Program Files/Program Files (x86) ect over the current ones work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Can I intergrate Windows.old files?

Windows.old file contains everything from a previous Windows install. You can not copy and paste old programs. They have to be installed to get the required entries into the registry in order to work. You can copy personal files that you missed backing up before the new install.

Good Morning, has somebody tried using Opera browser and password manager? For me it doesn't work, have not played with settings yet, though. Would be glad if someone has some suggestions on how to set this up. Thanks,Phil

Answer:Use Password Manager with Opera

It also doesn't work with Firefox. It installs a Firefox extension but the extension says it's not compatible with Firefox 3.*. It becomes quite useless for me, I'll probably uninstall it. Saving file manager/network/printer passwords only for me does not justify using the fingerprints. Miguel

whats a good password manager that plays nice with opera?

Answer:Password manager & Opera

Not exactly sure what you're looking for. Personally, I've found Opera's Wand feature to be quite handy and sufficient for my use. In any case here are some options:

Opera Widgets

Random Password Generator
Password Manager

Or maybe you're looking for something more along the lines of KeePass Password Safe.

I haven't tried any of these so I don't know how well they work.

Question: Opera 8.50 - Free!

Opera 8.50 - Free!

No Ads.
Better Browsing.
Opera removes integrated ad-banner
Why we're going free

Opera has removed the banners, found within our browser, and the licensing fee. Opera’s growth, due to tremendous worldwide customer support, has made today’s milestone an achievable goal. Premium support is available.

Wow now they are Freeware.

Answer:Opera 8.50 - Free!

I find this very interesting. A friend of mine wrote the following:
which raises some interesting questions about Opera's motivations for going free. I also find this interesting as this was done several weeks after Opera's special free serial offer.

Either way, I think it is a good move. I now have IE7, Firefox 1.5b, Opera 8.5 and Seamonkey 1.0a which make it great for coding sites and so forth. Browsers should be free after all. I understand it takes money to develop - as with all software - but there is no reason for one browser to cost and others to be free, and with projects like Mozilla who are open source. As the above article outlines, the only difference between Mozilla and Opera, is that Opera doesn't make their source available.

Question: Opera is now free!

The other thread got locked, so I thought I'd make another one.

But yes, Opera Web Broswer is now free! Visit for details.

As fancy as Firefox tries to be, it simply can't top how quick and beautiful Opera is. FF may have more plug-ins then you can shake a stick at, but the last thing I want to do is download a bunch of patches just for my browser to be half-way decent. If I wanted that, I'd use Netscape. Opera works right the first time you use it, and never quits. Thats beauty.

Answer:Opera is now free!

I'm forced to agree in every way. I tried Mozilla and phoenix or whatever the crap firefox was called back then FIRST, so my preference for Opera isn't based on it being the first one I learned to use or anything like that.

Someday firefox may be as good as Opera though. Mind you, at the rate it's going it will never be as efficient (I've tried both on a really really low end system -- eg P1-70 -- and Opera ran more smoothly and ate up all the meager 40MiB of memory more slowly.)
I worry about what may happen if they truly do keep free and paid seperate though. I hate it when a product starts to have missing features and such. But, from what I read, I have the impressin that the paid one is really a service. So you can get direct official help with problems and such.

Hi I'm a newby so not sure yet of how you guys work.

In a fit of stupidity I installed Ubuntu on my laptop, and went with dual boot, but it just would not see my WiFi router regardless of what I tried, so got rid of it following some online advice, using the bootrec.exe/fixmbr command, which now allows me to boot straight into Vista.

However, if you look at the pic attached you will see I have a huge lump of free space 41.64gb free space which I can't use for anything.

Is there a way for me to re-combine the 41.64gb free space with the C: drive again, the options allowed are displayed in the pic, also there is another slice of the drive 5.37gb which I'd also like to be able to use.

I'm not sure I've made my self clear on what I'd like to acheive, which is to bring both of theses slices back in to the C: drive.

On right clicking the 5.37gb drive the only option is Help, as neither of theses slices has a drive letter I don't see how I can do anything to them.

The only options I have for the 41.64gb free space seems to be to make a simple volume (not sure what that actually means) or delete the partition.

I'd like to get back to how it was before I installed Ubuntu, IE a C: & S: with no more partitions, preferably without having to re-install Vista.

Thanks in hopeful anticipation.

PS for clarity I've cut and pasted the options for each slice of the drive below the relevant slice

Is there anything for Opera to control certain javascript permissions? For instance, Controle de Scripts for Mozilla browsers allows one to disable the ability of javascript to do certain things without disabling it altogether.

I like being able to stop JS from resizing windows, disabling context menus, hiding normal parts of a window interface, and closing windows. I could also limit the events that can trigger popups without blocking those altogether.

Here's the scenario in IE--you google something and then click on a site and eventually find yourself with a "grayed out" or not highlighted "back" button. 'Morning all.
At the suggestion of users here, I have been using Opera for about a year. I am currently using my smaller monitor amd am losing a lot of screen space to the toolbars, etc. There is the dk blue top bar, File, edit, view etc, an advertising bar, open windows bar AND the forward/back, search etc. Takes up almost 2" and then at the bottom I put the task bar on auto hide so that helps. Everytime I try to configure the top bars myself it gets all messed up and their help isn't helping! I love using Opera, I find it very stable so I was wondering if anyone has tips on what I really need at the top and if anyone has the paid version, do they recommend it. Thank you.

Answer:Opera 7.0 Free version vs Pay

if you like the software, and want to get rid of the banner, id reccomend getting the pay version. it will get rid of the banner, and help support the developers. also, have you tried 7.5, because that has a smaller banner

Have you noticed a problem using the vBulletin "New Posts" tab since installing Opera 10.52?

It seems as though it will only work once

It's persisted in version 10.53 but is only a problem for me on the Windows platform ... the Mac version is OK.

It'd be nice if you could confirm it's not user error.
