a Acer aspire 6930g and was running on windows xp

Question: a Acer aspire 6930g and was running on windows xp

Hi
My son has an Acer Aspire 6930g running on xp.
Upto a couple of weeks ago he was happily running his blu rays using cyberlink 10 powerdvd when he announce that they no longer played. No disc found. Normal Dvds continue to run ok.
I have tried uninstalling the programme and reinstalling but that didnt seem to work.
Before i conclude that maybe the blu ray sensor has gone is there anything else i could try (- yes i have also tried cleaning the sensor and blowing away any possible dust) Do get suspicious that it all happens as the promotions for powerdvd13 flood in each time we open powerdvd lol.
Any suggestions welcome ty for your time

Preferred Solution: a Acer aspire 6930g and was running on windows xp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: a Acer aspire 6930g and was running on windows xp

I would presume that if it work before and all the disc are still scratch free, then the read layer function of the drive is not working anymore.

(sorry for the really long post but its kinda complicated)Okay to start with I bought the acer almost a year ago. Its still under guarantee but I would rather not have to take it in. So on friday I came home from School turned my Acer on (it was working perfectly the night before) and I got the blue screen of death. I tried everything, safe mode etc etc. I loaded up my windows 7 home premium CD and selected repair. It worked for perhaps a hour before telling me it failed to repair it. Next I decided to try and reinstall windows. i to the point where it asked for the Cd key. I typed it in just to be told it was invalid. Once I had done all that it no longer does the blue screen of death but it boots up the laptop you see the windows 7 logo then the screen went black and nothing could be seen APART from the cursor. This morning when I tried again now I just get a black screen then it restarts again. What is wrong? I can't figure it out at all!!!

Answer:Acer Aspire 6930G - Windows boot problem?

is your win 7 cd upgrade or full version if upgrade i believe you will need the key for the quallifying o/s Win 2k Xp or vista

Hi !
Problems with bsod in the last 2-3 days.
Anyone can help?thank you

Answer:bsod acer aspire 6930g

Looks pretty straightforward: your network adapter. I suggest removing the drivers in Device Manager, and installing a fresh copy.

If you can find an updated version on the computer manufacturer's site, use it.

Hi
Sometimes when i "wake" my computer from hibernation(I think thats what it is called in english) I get a bluescreen saying Driver_power_state_failure and I have to restart my computer. Is there a way to solve this?
I?m attaching the TSF_Vista_Support zip file which I have generated. It?s in Swedish but I hope you will understand.

Answer:Driver_Power_state_failure Acer Aspire 6930g

Your Xtreme N Gigabit Router doesn't have drivers installed (?I didn't even think that they needed drivers - and don't have one on mine?) Are you having any troubles with yours?

The BSOD's point to NETw5s32.sys - a component of your Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN adaptor. Please do the following:
- download the latest Win7 driver for your Intel wireless device from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx
- uninstall the current wireless drivers from your system using Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program
- install the freshly downloaded drivers
- wait for another BSOD

Also, Please update or remove these older drivers that were loaded at the time of the crash. Don't use Windows Update or the Update drivers function of Device Manager. Please use the following instructions to locate the most current drivers:

Quote:

How To Find Updated Drivers:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- some driver links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html

Here's the older drivers:

Hi, (first post in any forum so far)

I got this notebook (Acer Aspire 6930G - the version with the dvd-drive) for around 7 years now and I am happy that I chose to buy it.
For about a year ago it started shutting down, when putting it under some workingload (games). I found out pretty quickly that the reason was due to heat. So I simply opened it (since the warranty already expired) and cleaned it up and the problem was solved.
A few weeks later however the problem started again. To my surprise however it seemed to shut down without any reason. The only connection I was able to detect was the fact that it only happens while playing games.
But I did not care about my laptop anymore, because I saved up enouth money to build myself a desktop.
Long story short. I need it again to play some games
The Laptops hardware is pretty much the same. I only added a SSD in the second HDD-slot and installed Windows 10 on it.
Now what I actually want to ask:
I am pretty sure, that this problem is caused by my nVidia Geforce 9600m GT.
These are the points that make me think of this:
- the PC does not really "shut down" more like freeze with a blackscreen on (and the only way to exit that state is to hold down the power-button :x)
- while doing so the sound (ingame music etc.) does not stop
- also all LED still work

Hi folks!

I had an error reading "Notification tool for Realtek Audio Chip has stopped working". I looked on Google for this error and Yahoo Answers came up with this: Acer. Notification tool for RealTek audio chip has stopped working. After nvidia driver update help? - Yahoo! UK & Ireland Answers

Jeezers replies with "device manager > sound video, game controller > uninstall realtek > restart your comp and let windows reload the drivers"

I followed these instructions, but it appears to have killed my stereo mix function. Does anyone know how I could get it back please? I have hunted for it all through my system but just can't find it anymore! I also have all devices shown, hidden and unused ones alike.

Many thanks!

I just bought my Acer a couple of weeks ago and I have a question. Because I bought it after July I will receive a free copy of windows 7 when it releases. My question is, I want to do a clean install on windows 7 64 bit home premium. I have never loaded a new operating system before (I have only used the recovery disks) so I have a couple questions. My first question is when I install the clean install do I have to download and install the current drivers I am using on my computer? Video card, sound card, ect, or will windows automatically recognize my current hardware? If I do have to find them myself where can I find them? Will they be on the recovery disk Acer gave me? If that?s the case how can I only load the drivers and not windows vista? I am sure I can get them from Acers website but I am looking for the easiest way. Would ?windows update? find them for me?

Also my last question is there are a couple of applications that were previously loaded on the computer when I first started it up. The 2 main ones are Microsoft student office 2007 and Acers ?empower? program (Erecovery, Eaudio, ect.) I use both of these programs and I don?t want to lose them. Also because office came preinstalled I don?t have a physical disk. Any help would be appreated. Thank you for your time

Answer:Clean Install Of Windows 7 on Acer 6930G Questions

You can get all of the newest drivers from Acer's website. Acer Service & Support

It appears that the have the empower program available there as well. If you purchases MS Office Student they should have given you a disk or at least a product code for it. You should be able to contact Acer and get a physical copy if you cannot find it on their website.

Hi all. I have a 2009 Acer Aspire One netbook model AOD250-1389. It came with Windows XP "designed for XP". I upgraded it to Windows 7 even though Acer warned me not to. But it ran better than with XP. Later I updated it to Windows 8 and then Windows 8.1. I had a little trouble fooling Windows 8 to accept the device driver for the display. I don't remember anymore what I did. I have updated it to Windows 10 and it runs fine. I think it runs better than it did on any of the previous Windows versions. Everything works. Install went smoothly. Obviously it is underpowered. But it runs. And being that it is so light, I like it because I can carry it. Yes I could buy a lightweight Windows tablet but I am happy with this for when I need it.

I have recently purchased an Acer Aspire ES 15 Laptop running Windows 10. Everyday it freezes up, the cursor won't move, I cannot bring up the task manager or switch applications. The only thing I can do is to turn the machine off and on again, which has caused me to loose work. Is this a known problem? Either way it is annoying and any suggestions of real world fixes would be appreiciated.

Hi,

I've had my laptop for 4 years and now it's been running really slow. Clicking on programs, even just the Menu, would usually take at least 10 seconds before anything happens. I've run the disk fragmenter, disk clean-up plus I've deleted and transferred A LOT of files. Now I have a free space of 187GB! Would it be because of a virus of some sort? I have Microsoft Essentials and I think it's been doing a good job... Does this mean I need to re-format my laptop already? I'm in the process of writing my thesis and this is making everything more stressful than it already is...

Greetings. I recently purchased this primarily as a road trip unit (larger screen than phones) It is used for email, facebook games, and Skype. It has worked fine for the last 6 months. But now it starts up...goes to the Windows XP screen, goes to the Starting windows screen, the welcome screen, and then to the desktop. It shows only the background image on desktop and no icons, buttons etc. After about two minutes it flashes a blue screen with the error STOP: C0000145 (Application error) The application failed to etc. I do not have a CDRom drive on it. There is only a USB flash drive. It has a product key sticker for Windows XP and I do have a Windows XP CD for the desktop unit we have at home. Help! This is about all I know about this little guy.

Problems with my Acer Aspire
Hello, I was wondering if somebody could help me with some problems I'm having with my Acer Aspire, run on Windows 7. So here's the problem, about a couple months ago, I went to go onto my computer, turned it on, and I noticed it was acting a bit slow, so as I go to click on the internet, it freezes up. And I wait for it for a good ten minutes to see if it will do anything, but no. So I was forced to crash it. I turn it back on, and it does the same thing! It was very frustrating. So I used "Safe Mode with Networking" so I could do all my basic internet stuff. But I tried to go back on regular and see if I could create a restore point. It restarted and everything fine, but only for about ten minutes. And I've tried and tried to do it again, and I just can't take it anymore! I don't have the money to have anyone fix it. I just need some help. I don't know what's wrong with it. If someone could please tell me if they know how to fix this problem, I would GREATLY appreciate it. This problem happens all the time, not just for the internet, but any program. I would just like to be able to use my computer on normal mode INSTEAD of safe mode. Safe mode is so annoying, big giant screen, no sound, unable to use half of my programs, including my Zune software. I cannot even update my Zune MP3 player because safe mode won't read it. Also, the disk drive doesn't even work. Anyone know what the problem is ... Read more

Suggestion :
Do a system restore> Pick the date before you " downloaded a pre-loaded MS Office " as your restore point.
Hopefully, that will give you back access to internet.

Were you trying to say that your computer had a pre-installed " trial version " of Microsoft Office 2010 when you first bought your computer. Trial version has since expired, and you tried to download a full paid version of the Microsoft Office 2010 ?

I'm wondering if I should get the BIOS update from Acer for my laptop.
I've been having some audio stutter issues that seem to be fixed by disabling the LAN from 'device manager' (a pretty common problem and solution, apparently).

I just wonder if getting a BIOS update will make my computer more stable, because I don't want to have to keep disabling my LAN just to stop audio stutter and, in some cases, spikes in the CPU usage.
Is it safe to update my BIOS? Would I need to back-up any data before I do it?

Answer:BIOS Update for Acer Aspire 7720 running windows 7

Crazyedd, BIOS updates usually list info on what the update fixes. If it states that it can fix your audio issue then you should do it. If not, update your complete specs, using the link under my sig, and post in the sound and audio thread and a member will help you. Also make sure your drivers are up to date.

can anyone advise what would be cheapest, and easiest to implement for a non techie, option to enable me to keep my lap top running (perfectly servicable at the moment) after demise of xp in april 2014. are there cheap programmes available which can automatically convert existing system and where can i purchase these, with appropriate costs.
any guidance would be appreciated including any info on this discussion ,and how to actually change operating systems ,if it has already been debated.
thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:replacement operating system for acer aspire 3634 running windows xp

Hi
Your XP sysstem will not stop working after April, it is just that MS will not be issuing any more updates so you have planty of time. If you wish to upgrade then your cheapest option is a Linux distribution, Ubuntu, Mint etc. If you must stick with Windows then you should look around at alternatives on eBay (watch out for fakes if they are too cheap. You might find a Win7 one there. Don't know the spec of your laptop so check it will run Win7 first using the MS upodate checker. Whatever you do will require an absolutely clean install so you will need to make an nexternal backup of all your data.

Hi All,
I have a friend at work with an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop running Windows Vista Home Basic and AVG Free Version.
Vista is running so slow it’s not funny. IE: to open the pictures folder will take about 45 – 130 seconds and then to open each photo it will take up to 3 minutes.
The first thing I could find is it only has 512mb RAM shared with the graphics card so I have ordered 2 x 2GB DDR2 667MHz RAM Sticks for her.
I should get them Monday or Tuesday.
Is there anything I should be looking for that would slow vista down so bad?
The other thing is that Acer have split the 80Gb HDD into 2 x 35Gb Partitions, I was thinking of reformatting the HDD back to just 1 x 78Gb Partition.
Does anyone have any theories on this matter?
Thanks for your help and comments
Andrew

Hello,

I have changed my graphic card from ATI HD4650 DDR2 to NVIDIA FX 770M DDR3. The OS started to give video_tdr_failure so I decided to do a fresh install. Eve after fresh install i still get the error randomly, may it be when I start firefox, or close mediaplay classic etc. I run benchmark tests ,memory test but I could not find anything. My temps are good, when I game it is around 80C-degree. The thing is the driver I install is from laptopvideo2go with modified inf since the original drivers from nvidia can not detect the card. Used latest driver version. Changed the firmware of the to latest one which was no help at all for this case. Any help would be appriciated, I may return the card if it is not driver related and the card is actually at the end of its life.

My system is:
CPU: X9100 C0 Stepping @ 3.06GHz 1.125V
VGA: NVidia FX 770M 512MB DDR3
RAM: 2x2 DDR2 800MHz 5-5-5

Answer:Acer 6930G with FX770M video_tdr_failure

Please return the card. Having to use specially modded drivers to detect the card isn't a good solution.

Hi guys! My 6930g wont boot, its giving me a black screen saying

For Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCIE Ethernet Controller v1.0.0.12(2008/07/26)

check cable connection!
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.

And sometimes "operating system not found" come's up under it.

I've pulled out the HD and put it back in and still the same. I've tried running the recovery disk I made but it doesn't tell me it's just going to restore the C: drive (it's just blank) and I don't want to lose the data on my other partition. I run system restore through F11 and it booted once but now wont let me run it again. I have done a search on here and can't find anything.

I'm running Vista.

Any help please??

Cheers guys!!!

Answer:acer 6930g wont boot

The PXE message just means that it does not see a cd in the tray and does not see an operating system on the HD so it is trying to boot from the last option a network (which you are not on).

You are able to boot to CD so the problem is with the HD.

Try rebooting and hitting F12 during the acer logo screen--do you get a boot Order Menu? If so see if the HD is listed and choose its number to try to boot. Do you get the no OS error?

Rather than cleaning our Aunt's laptop (full of junk) handed down to our son for BIG school, I did an alt+F10 Restore to Factory settings and started again. Windows Vista and Acer had to do its thing while it reset... I have connected to the router and I have wifi confirmed as connected... Windows updated and the homepage (Www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/home) even has the new Acer 'Switch' advertised and the dragon (some new game).... But the top isn't loaded right, it has 'errors on page' and other websites don't load at all. TCP and DNS are ticked for 'automatic' too - spotted this on online forums so checked that. Any ideas how there's wifi but without a working Internet connection?! help much appreciated!

Answer:Aspire 6930G wifi enabled... but no internet?!

I'm guessing the Internet Explorer included with Vista is down revved enough that many web site won't work right with it. I did a from scratch install of Windows 7 (prior to sp1) on a customers laptop this weekend and found that the IE 8 included wouldn't work right on a lot of common sites. I upgraded it to IE 11 and all was right with the world again. [Well after several hundred updates that is.]

Wife has small Acer laptop running 8.1 and running wirelessly. It keeps on losing internet connection although shows full wi-fi signal. Icon shows asterisk and network connection shows 'limited'. Acer suggested complete reset which has been done several
times and then have installed new motherboard but it still has the problem. Have checked for and installed network adapter driver (Realtek) updates but problem still persists. It works ok for about 1 or 2 weeks after a reset but then it all happens again.
TalkTalk changed the router to eliminate that. My desktop runs without any problems wired or wirelessly as do two other laptops (all now updated to Windows 10) and two Android phones. Dare not update Acer to Win 10 until I know it is not Acer problem
as guarantee about to run out. Spent 6 months trying to sort it.

Hi - Need help with my Aspire 6930G - From working fine, no problems it will no longer boot at all.The machine powers on, HD light flashes for approx 15 sec's then nothing - black screen, have tried hooking it up to an external monitor to see it's related to the video output - same black screen. Have read on here that this is a common problem - solved by flashing the correct BIOS file. I have d/l the correct BIOS zip file from the site - this contains a Windows exe file and a DOS exe file - but no others - eg The .fd file which I've read in tutorials/YouTube needs to be present and renamed in order to flash. The other problems I can't quite get my head round are1) How to get the machine to boot from a flash drive - When I can't access the BIOS to point it to the USB drive, instead of the drive with the OS on?2) Don't I need a flash program to actually install the new BIOS? Big Thanks for any helpful replies!

Hi,I got my laptop just under a year ago and it seemed ok but I've recently had problems with it running ridiculously slowly. I thought it was a problem with the Internet at first because it seemed to work for 1 or 2 minutes then stop doing anything, but it is taking ages to do anything, even something like changing the desktop background in fact I have to give up with the majority of things as they get stuck on 'not responding' and don't go any further. Anything like MediaPlayer won't even open. I've not got loads of files - just a few photos and a few word files pretty much on there, as well as my music and have checked and there is plenty of space left on the hard drive, plenty of RAM so it doesn't seem to be a capacity problem. I've removed any programs that I didn't think I needed or which might be causing a problem including the Macafee and Norton that came with it, the AVG free I had installed and something called Pukki which I thought may be the problem as it appeared just before the problem started but it didn't make any difference. I also ran the malware detector - windows defender that is on the laptop and it didn't detect anything. I have tried to run the Malwarebytes software and also Avast but the laptop doesn't seem to have enough 'energy' to complete the command, i.e. I can get to the Malwarebytes homepage but when I click to download the free version it gets stuck on 'not responding' Is my only option to restore factory settings? Answer:Acer aspire v5 running slow :-(

Hi Tera The slow running of your computer might be a software or an hardware issue. Firstly, reformat & reinstall Windows. To do this, type Acer Recovery Management from the Start Screen (or press Windows key & "S" from the desktop). Next select "Restore Factory Settings" and follow all on screen prompts. This will take quite a while to run. Just remember to back up any documents/pictures firstly. Once Windows has finished installing, remove any programs you wish by going to control panel > Programs & features. If you can't find Control Panel, use the search method as mentioned above, but type "Uninstall a program" If after everything, the computer is still slow, then it may point to an hardware issue. Contact Acer support for your region for further help.

Acer Aspire running xp home, want to restore to original condition running slow want to restore to original configaration.

Answer:Acer aspire running slow

More than likely your system is simply loaded with internet garbage. The easiest thing to do would just be to clear it all out. If you "restore to original configaration", you will most likely lose all your personal files, photos, & programs. Then you will have to go thru the reinstallation of all the Windows Updates, anti-virus, drivers, & whatever programs you use that weren't included in the "original configaration". Is that what you want to do? We'll need to know the model number of your Aspire.

Hi everyone, i hope someone can help me out here. I just got a new Acer Aspire E15 on the 9th of April and it has run slow from the start. I've tried to delete some pre-installed apps/games etc but it doesnt seem to have done anything. The only things i have downloaded are Microsoft Office and Mcafee. It is apps and webpages which run slowly and even on different internet connections it doesn't seem to make a difference. Does anyone have any advice or tips? Thanks!

Answer:Acer Aspire E15 Running Slow

I had this problem for a couple years. I tried all the internet tips like power settings, updated the driver etc. Finally edited the wifi adapter settings and now it works properly for the first time. If only I'd have done it sooner. It may not work for you but might be worth a try. Good luck.
Steps:
Control Panel
System
Device Manager
Qualcomm Atheros AR 956x Wireless Network Adapter
Right click / properties
Changed 3 settings:
Receive buffers to 512
Ensure transmit buffers are also 512
Scan valid changed to 120
Wireless mode selection changed from 5 to 4 (don't need b)
Save and close
Restart if no change

ive been thru everything and its still doing it,
somebody pointed out that it may be something to do with the windows update and redirected me to another post where i followed all the instructions but its still doing the same thing
when i start windown update, svchost.exe takes upto 99% of the memory making the pc unusable
if i stop the svchost the screen will revert to win 98 styling as the attached pic shows
cutting off the wuauclt.exe helps bring the pc back to normal
if anyone could help it would be much appreciated
thanx carl

Answer:acer aspire svchost.exe running at 100%

Tough one I'm afraid, as MANY services use the SVCHOST executable, and depending on it's useage, it will open its own handles/threads.

In other words, it may not be SVCHOST itself causing the problem, as much as it might look like it.

We'll need further information. Could you please download Process Explorer, run it, and post back with as much information on the defunct SVCHOST thread as possible?

I recently purchased a new Acer D270 netbook and observed that its fan is continuously running. Although fan was not making any audible noise at all i thought of using Acer Aspire One Temperature Monitor and Fan Control software even though it mentioned to use the software at your own risk I installed it on my netbook.

Now as soon as I ran it my fan speed increased 2 to 3 times the original speed. So, I uninstalled it and restarted my netbook. Now I am observing that even after uninstalling it my fan is running at a `faster speed(may be 1.5 times)` than when I had not installed it.

So, my question is why am I observing this behavior in fan speed and what can be done to reverse the effect of the software.

Answer:Acer Aspire One D270 fan continuously running

Constant high fan speed can be caused by a lack of graphics drivers. Did you accidentally uninstall them when you did this? You might want to do a System Restore to a time previous to installing that fan utility.

Hi!

My son (who is currently in the navy) has an Acer desktop (AM1641, windows vista) that he left here at home. When he left we cleaned it out well (it was quite dusty) and I ran some anti-virus scans on it and did updates before we put it away.We ran it off and on for a few days after we did these things and it seemed fine.

I needed to hook it back up so I could grab some files for him, and it is now behaving strangely, when certain programs such as control panel, internet browsers and even malwarebytes and S&D are started they flicker and the screen changes resolution. Once these are turned off the computer returns to 'normal'. Media programs such as Media player classic look and play just fine.

Any thoughts? He has a laptop with him where he's at, but I'd hate for him to have this computer stop working as it has a lot of his files on it.

I can't go back to a restore point on windows as apparently he'd never set one up (my bad, I expected him to do more of that for himself).

Thanks in advance for your thoughts, Liz

Answer:Acer aspire desktop running oddly

Hi Liz, welcome to the forum

My first thought is, if this PC has been as you mentioned "we put it away" then do check any cables connecting the monitor to the PC for being loose.

Just need to double check by what you mean when you say "Once these are turned off the computer returns to normal" --- is this when these applications are closed then the screen is ok, so for instance if you open Control Panel the screen flickers and changes resolution?

When you boot into safe mode (F8 key at boot and choose Safe Mode with Networking) does the PC behave the same with flickering screen when the mentioned software is running?

I do think it maybe a loose cable, so do unplug and re-plug in firmly the monitor cable from the graphic card to monitor again, even unplug from both ends and re-plugin.

Hello, thanks for reading. So I got this laptop as a gift for college a week ago, the first thing I noticed it's that it's pretty old not that powerful, but it was a gift so I'll bear with it. Still, my desktop PC was even older than this laptop and it was nowhere as slow as this laptop is, even more so since the PC is full of stuff and the laptop was (relatively) unused.

The second thing I noticed after booting it after receiving it was that it couldn't connect to WiFi. I did the first thing I though of, plug my PC's ethernet cable to it, download a driver update software and updated everything that it detected obsolete. Turns out the internet driver was outdated and WiFi worked fine afterwards.

Still, I notice the laptop runs very slow. Youtube videos lag a lot (it's not internet related since download speeds are fine) and the browser (Firefox) can't have more than 3 tabs open with the 4th taking ages to load. It can't run very basic games without stuttering and reading pdfs is a nightmare.

I've already ran Malware Antibytes and found nothing, tried defragmenting, running chkdsk, killing consuming processes nad installing TuneUp Utilities (not sure if that even works). At this point I'm open to a factory reset if that will help, much to my dismay I don't think my model can be upgraded.

Here are the specs:

Answer:Acer aspire V5 touch running slow

Check in task manager to see which processes or applications are taking up the most cpu and memory.
Scan for virus and malware
Get rid of all those toolbars and addons for your browsers
How much disk space is left you need at least 20% the size of your drive.
Use CCleaner to get rid of a) temporary files b)safely clean the registry c) stop necessary programs from running at start up

Recently had problem with a Windows IE (10) "virus", and Staples was able to save a few files for me, and reinstalled a full version of Windows 7, using the disk I purchased when I upgraded from Vista. I know there are a lot of backups on Data ( "D"), some go back to Vista- have NO IDEA what to delete. A couple of years ago I bought an Acer Aspire 5750Z-4835 running Windows 7. This was a new laptop.

Not long afterwards when I tried to boot the computer a screen would appear that said "Launch Startup Repair". I did. The computer works several times and again the Launch Startup Repair appeared.

This has happened 8 to 10 times since I bought the laptop. I have even wiped the HD, reinstalled the OS but it still happens.

So, my question is, why does this laptop continue to have this problem?

Answer:No boot Acer Aspire running W7 Home Premiun

It could be that you have a recurring file system corruption. This could be caused by power problems, or you could have a failing hard drive.

First test, run Disk Check from windows:
Disk Check

Second test, download and run the hard drive manufacturer's hard drive diagnostic program on the drive. You can find a link to these on the manufacturer's website.

Our Acer Aspire has dark screen. I found suggestion on line that it could be the BIOS.
Found a site that leads one as to how to flash the BIOS. Found and dowloaded the one
that seems to match the model.
The process was to down load on another machine, put it on flash drive and plug into the faulty
Acer, hold down FNC/ESC and PWR keys for a long time with the USB drive plugged in.
Done this and at some point the screen came up with logon, etc.
Still doesn't always come up. Am wondering if the little process didn't actually flash the BIOS or
had the wrong version.
Couldn't find the actual version of BIOS on this machine. How if it's blank!
Any suggestions?

Answer:Acer Aspire 5520 running Vista: Need BIOS

Updating the BIOS should never be done, unless the update addresses or fixes an issue that a computer is having.

A bad or failed BIOS update can leave you with a non-working computer.

There's a lot of bad information on-line, so you need to be careful about what you read and follow.

Here is the "Contact Acer" site.

Hello Guys,Yesterday I received the laptop and install all the drivers from http://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/drivers .Also all the windows updates by now are done with the latest update just 3 hours ago taking 1 hour. But the laptop is very slow, thinks and slows when doing very simple things, like opening the start menu, typing in the question pole next to the start menu. The boot time is over 3 minutes for restart and start up. I want to believe that I have drivers for update or some that are not installed. If you know a reliable program or tool to check the drivers and their dates or any advice would be very helpful.Windows 10 x64.Intel Core I5-4210U 1.7to2.7GHzNVIDIA GeForce 920M 2GB8GB RAM1TB HDD Thank you in advance!

Did you update the drivers with only drivers from Acer?I find it hard to believe that a new Acer needed an hour of driver updating, are you sure you needed all of them? Was it slow before you started updating it?I would do a factory recovery and check how it's running after every update, possibly finding the one that caused the problem.

Hello, my Acer Aspire V5-552P-X617 is running really slow. It has been this day from day 1 since I ordered it. It has 6gb of memory and I don't have a lot on it (almost completely stock acer windows 10). I have attempted Monitoring through task manager but nothing appears out of the normal that would be causing it to be sluggish during normal operation. Although when gaming it moves really good. Any ideas?

Answer:Acer Aspire V5-552P-X617 running slow

Hi,If you have the McAffe trial version installed, uninstall it, don't worry about the security, you will be immediately protected by Windows Defender, if you want another AV program you can install latter on, go to task manager, disable unnecessary programs in Start Up tab. Replacing HDD with a SSD also will improve the performance if you already haven't done so.

Hello everyone.I bought my laptop two years ago, I partitioned it and installed ubuntu on one partition, keeping windows 8 on the other. Everything ran smooth until some days ago the windows partition didn't start after the computer fell on the ground (I think this is the cause, I'm not sure), it kept saying that it was trying to recover something. The ubuntu partition still runs perfectly. Today I decided to reset the windows partition via alt + f10 after some troubles, keeping the ubuntu partition. It worked fine, but now windows runs very very very slow, it needs at least 10 minutes to start, everytime I try to launch a program or even to connect to internet it needs entire minutes etcetera. It is actually impossible to work with it. The thing is that if I launch ubuntu everything works fine, so I don't think it is an hardware issue. Do you have any suggestions?

I approached this question a while ago and thought I'd circle back around from a slightly different angle. I understand most laptops will boot/run with only the AC adapter plugged in (battery pack removed). Will an Aspire 5745 operate this way? Also, what happens when the battery pack starts to die (mine shows 100% recharge but doesn't last very long)? Will the laptop still boot/run on an AC adapter if the battery pack is at the end of life? Thanks in advance.....cheers....

Answer:Acer Aspire 5745 booting/running on power adapter ...

Sorry so long to get back to this...... Been thru 2 replacement M/Bs and this is the best of what I understand to date - Installed and ran the 1st replacement M/B and it seemed to do just fine...until I plugged in the battery pack. Then it showed same problems as the original. Unplugged the batttery pack, but the problem never went away (erratic boot ups), just like the original M/B. Got a 2nd replacement board, installed and booted. Worked fine. However, I never reconnected the battery pack and just continued to test with AC/DC adapter only. No problems. Consistent boot ups, good performance (for an older machine My best guess it that the battery pack was the problem , however, not in the way I would have expected. Seems either something in communications (over the serial bus) between the battery pack and the M/B caused the M/B to become "glitchy" at start up (that resetting the BIOS to default wouldn't fix) or there's a h/w problem on the battery pack control/management board that caused a h/w problem on the M/B to screw up the boot up process permanently (so money spent on the M/B was prob'ly not a waste...yayyy!). I still ahve to fix the battery pack problem (maybe I'll see if I can figure how to create/use some kind of external battery pack like an AC/DC Adapter), but it looks like I've got my laptop back and functioning. Thanks for the help and input....Cheers.....

Answer:[SOLVED] Acer Aspire 5745 booting/running on power...

>>>>And therein may lie an unforeseen electrochemical issue<<<< Sorry, not sure what you mean. What I meant was that the laptop would always see power coming from through AC/DC adapter power plug (battery pack would go thru here as well). It would never try to charge any batteries nor would it ever try to run from battery since there would be no battery inserted into the battery socket of the laptop. For charging the DIY battery pack, that would be either internally managed (if I bought a more universal battery pack), or I would use separate batteries (18650?) that could be removed and charged separately when needed. I suppose I could also use NiMH, tho the power density mgiht not be as good as LiIon.

Hello again everyone! I was fortunate enough to save my personal files on the Acer Aspire 5745! Unfortunately, a new issue has surfaced! I did a full system restore to factory conditions and wiped the C: drive clean. I've since started adding a few things back to the laptop like Firefox, Webroot, etc. Now EVERY action takes FOREVER to load. Whether it's going to shut down, open my Pictures section under my account, Windows Task Manager, or going to My Computer it says (Not Responding) to EVERYTHING! Is there an easy solution to this? I read somewhere that tweaking some of the registry settings could resolve this but I wanted to ask here to be sure.

Answer:[SOLVED] Acer Aspire Running VERY Slowly & Programs Not Responding

Do not mess with the registry. That can cause huge problems.

Did you upgrade Vista to SP2?

I have changed the Windows power settings so that when I close the lid it goes into hibernate mode. However, when I open the lid it does not start the laptop and restore from hibernation. I have to open the lid and press the power-on button and then it restores from hibernation. I have a much cheaper Toshiba Laptop that just automatically starts and restores from hibernation when I open the lid. As far as I recall there were no special settings that I changed in order for the Toshiba to work like that, just the setting in the Windows power option that permits hibernation when closing the lid. The Toshiba run Windows 8.0. Does this model Acer have this feature? If so, how do I set it up to work? Thanks.

So I just bought this laptop two weeks ago and it was fine the first two days. It's got an i7-7600 and the GTX 1060, and a 1TB HDD. It has been taking 10 or so minutes to start up and even fully crashing when using Steam.Sometimes it freezes to the point I've had to hard restart, where it runs a disk check each time.I had to uninstall Norton to get it to run faster but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

Hey all. This is my co-workers laptop. WindowsXP Home Edition. The system process (not the idle process) is constantly running at 40% or higher all the time. It causes the CPU Usage to be between 90-100% at all times. This happens at startup. This results in the keyboard and touchpad to be slow responsive, however, a wireless mouse works fine.

I have run spybot, AVG, and also HouseCall by TrendMicro to no avail. The system is fully updated. Please help.

When I start up my Acer Aspire 5250, I am at the starting windows stage for several minutes than when it loads it enters my profile which has taken up to 7 minutes, but when I enter the desktop is completely blank, except for my cursor. all I can see is my cursor. I can enter the BIOS menu fine so I am stumped. If anyone has this issue or knows how they solved it please let me know.

Answer:Acer Aspire 5250 running home premium desktop will not display.

You can work through the steps in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start to check for infection, try repairing the boot and System files, to see if you can get into Safe Mode or normal boot, then continue until its fixed with the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

But if you have the Acer factory install then that is the worst install of Win7 one can have to begin with. So what I would do is Clean Reinstall Windows 7 following everything that works best in Win7 in tens of thousands of installs we've directly helped with here, and which has been used by over a million consumers without a single complaint.

Everything needed is in the blue link, and you'll get and keep a perfect install to the exact extent you stick with the tools and methods given.

Hello. I need help with my Acer Aspire One D260 Intel Atom N475, 2Gb DDR 3, with 320 GB HDD running on Windows 7 starter. It's been running so slow! Often times I have to restart it or run CCleaner every once in a while.I have tried running AVAST (Free) but it doesn't detect any virus.I have a few questions:1) will reformatting do me good? (I haven't tried reformatting since I bought this 5 years ago)2) Can I still upgrade my RAM and should I expect any improvement if I do that? Thanks!

Answer:Acer Aspire One D260 Intel Atom N475 running very very slow!

I wouldn't expect miracles from an Atom-based machine but a reformat and fresh install will at least bring it back to as-new speed, assuming there are no hardware faults. Windows 7 starter is limited to 2GB of RAM so you won't be able to upgrade that unfortunately. You could consider changing the HDD for a small SSD which would improve bootup times, program load times, and so forth, but I'm not sure if it would be cost effective for a 5 year old netbook.

I am trying to help a neighbor get her desktop running. When I got there, it was beeping on boot. I removed the memory stick (pc2-5300 x 2 gb)
I cleaned it with an eraser with a static bracelet on and re-installed it...It posted but I did not have monitor attached at that point. I brought it to my house and hooked it up and believe it or not it booted. She does not even have internet service so I decided to do some windows updates and run some scans. No problems found. I then installed some used pc2-4200 (2 x 2 gb) to speed it up but it would not post so I replaced the old ram back. Now I only get BSOD...ox0000008e (0xc0000005,0x81d56F15,ox85EC38c4)
The motherboard looks very clean with no bulging caps...
From my guesswork, I am wondering if the windows updates I downloaded had a video driver that was not compatible.
She is a retired lovely person I would like to help. I tried safe mode boot with networking with same results. I ran mem test 86 with no issues. I also ran a hard drive test that showed no errors. I put the hd in my system with a usb adapter and all her files are intact.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey There

First of all: I'm a studend, so I can't speek good english, cause I live in Switzerland (plz write in German if you can )

So my Problem:

I've found a Acer Aspire 5920G with Windows Vista. This was so slow and annoying . So I deleded the whole OS and installed Win 7 Home Premium x64. Now I'm searching some drivers for my Notebook. My biggest Problem is the sound driver.
In Vista, there was a tool called "Acer eAudio Manager". I want to install it, because you can switch the equalizer to movie, music and game (and it sounds awesome with the bassbooster=D). I've downloaded the driver from the website and there was a error:

"This software can only be installed in authorized machine"

what can I do to install this tool? Some other tools, like acer power management or acer enet management, works great.

I thought I ask in this forum, because there were some good topics about the mouspad and synaptic of the 5920G (wich helped me=D)

I hope you understand my question and can help me

Greetings
LikeLinux
(And yes, I'm a real Linux fan^^ I've used always Ubuntu. This is the first time that I use Windows )

My system is roughly 5 months old. I had used the upgrade software that Acer provided to upgrade from Vista to 7 home premium. There was no issues with the install and everything worked great for a month and then it started going in to deep hibernation. The only way to wake it was to unplug the power from the tower. I did everything I could think of from editing the registry to updating drivers, to finally reinstalling everything. No go so I packed it up and sent it back to Acer. I just got it back from Acer's repair depot. They had to replace the motherboard, hard drive, and fans on the system. They performed a factory restore and told me that I was good to go and updating shouldn't be an issue. I went to use the upgrade dvd's from Acer and low and behold, the hibernation thing started again! It took me four attempts to restore it back to factory. Now it seems stable running Vista. I am in the process up updating the drivers and windows stuff so time will tell. Is it me or is Acer systems flakey?

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about updating to Windows 7 without having to format every week? I have tried doing clean installs without going the upgrade path and it still behaves badly. Sometimes it won't even turn on. Or is it just possible that the pc I purchased just can't handle Windows 7?

Answer:Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software

Are you booting the Acer Win7 Upgrade Media DVD to do a clean install? You can do that to get the cleanest possible install, without the corruption that is imported from Vista in an in-place Upgrade.

The installer is driver-complete, but afterwards any missing drivers which don't quickly arrive in Optional Windows Updates can be found on the apps/drivers CD along with favorite apps like Works, cam, etc. Others can be found on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (flash, Reader) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

Answer:can anyone help, Acer aspire m1610 or acer aspire t180

First, each model has multiple hardware specifications. So I have no way of knowing the hardware configurations of either unit that you have.

Second, upgrades are limited on OEM PC's. Your only options will be RAM and the video card. And in the case of the video card, the power supply may not be able to handle a decent card.

I bought a factory refurbished Acer Aspire AXC-603G-UW30. I cannot find any documentation on it. But when I typed in my S/N on the Acer website, it brought me to the Acer Aspire XC-603G-UW30 page (notice the XC, not AXC).Can anyone confirm whether or not the Acer Aspire AXC-603G-UW30 is exactly the same system as Acer Aspire XC-603G-UW30? It certainly appears so, but I'd like to update the BIOS to fix some problems and obviously want to make sure I'm using the correct BIOS update file (so I don't inadvertently brick the computer). Thanks

AXC= Aspire XCAspire AXC = Aspire Aspire XC the initial A is just an abbreviation for Aspire. you can check it on the acer support site, searching with model number AXC gives you nothing, searching with XC gives you the correct model, so you must use XC.

Boy, those are two very different machines! The first one is very handy if you are carrying the laptop with you most of the time, especially if you are switching between carrying it, using it as a laptop and using it as a tablet fairly often. The detriment is that the screen is small, only 10 inch. The second one is a lot more powerful and larger, but it will be more of a hassle to carry (you will want a backpack or briefcase). It's better suited if you are traveling between locations and want to set it up for extended use at each destination. You are going to be less likely to want to pull it out for ten minutes of quick web surfing.
