Asus F50sv headphone jack problem

Question: Asus F50sv headphone jack problem

I've had this for years and I never really cared for it. Now I finally decided to know why when I plug in my headphones, sound comes out of both headphones and my internal laptop speakers?

Does anybody else here who owns an Asus F50sv model, have a similar problem, and how do I fix it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am set up for dual boot with the factory default Windows 7 partition, and Xubuntu 12.10. All software is fully updated, everything is generally working fine, and has been for quite some time. I spend most of my time on the Xubuntu side, but occasionally have to access Windows for some specific tasks.

I have a problem with no sound coming out of the headphone jack while in Windows 7. This was working initially, but somewhere along the line it stopped. It is not a hardware problem, because the headphones work just fine under Xubuntu. Under Windows I have reinstalled the Realtek drivers to no positive effect. The speakers cut out when you plug in the headphones, but there is no sound. I found a couple of mentions of this problem:

http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-6...g-with-windows

Here it is suggested to remove the IDT Audio software. However, that is not installed on my system.

http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-6...&cur=2&url=%2F

Here it is suggested to activate the headphones from the Control Panel->Sound window. However, only the internal speakers are listed. The headphones are not.

If anyone has seen this problem and can suggest something to investigate, I would be very grateful.

Regards.

Have you tried updating the drivers by going to the manufacture of your computer's website and downloading the drivers for your computer make and model?

Go to device manager by going to Start type in devmgmt.msc hit enter. Is there and read or yellow marks present? If so go to the manufacture of your computer website enter your service tag number or look up the model number including Windows 7 32bit or 64bit and download the appropriate drivers.

Recently, while playing unreal tournament, I realize there was no sound coming out of the speaker once I unplugged my headphones. I restarted thinking that it would fix the problem, but that didn't help, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall the sound driver from realtek, no good either. Finally I deicided to reformat my computer using the recovery partition. Reassuring myself that this will definitely solve the problem I was shock and confuse as to why no sound came out of the speaker after the recovery. After going to the Realtek sound control panel I realize that the computer thinks or detected that a headphone was plugged in when clearly it wasn't. The sound does work with the headphone in and I am sure the speaker is not damaged because the POST sound, "boommmmm", comes during bootup. I really don't understand what is going on, and I already reformatted the harddrive 2 times.

I have read that the problem can be temporarily solve by replacing the motherboard, but after about a week or two, the same problem will arise. I have also read that other brands including HP, DELL and Sony has similar problems.

I can live without the speakers but I am not sure if further problems will persist with this laptop, since its only been month that I have purchased it.

Thanks for many reply/help.

Answer:Asus G1S speakers not working (stuck in headphone jack mode)

Just some real quick ideas

Speakers plugged into power outlet and on
Speakers plugged into back jack securely
(actually if you heard the startup booom sound, then they must be)

Sound volume up on speaker
Sound volume up on Windows
Sound volume up in the game that you are using
(That might be it)

If you play a song (through Windows media player) can you hear it ?
If so this must be an in game setting (ie mute sound) Please check all settings in the game.

Hi All: i have thus far been unable to confirm if the headphones jack on the right side is a headphones ONLY jack or a combo microphone/headphones jack.   It would make no sense to put in a headphones ONLY jack, but stranger things have happened in this world. I've seen conflicting reports.    May I ask for a definitive confirmation please? Thanks in advance.

When i plug into the headphone jack the sound isn't routed from the speakers so the sound stays in the speakers and the headphones get nothing. All the forums i've seen about this have been for linux but i'm running vista, any help on how to correct this?

Hello All, my sound output on my laptop (the headphone jack...) is broken, almost certainly a hardware fault, I've tried pretty much everything I know of within windows to no avail. It's only outputting to the right.

So, is there any way to configure windows so that it recognises my line-in or microphone (pink and blue ;D) jacks as a headphone jack?

Answer:Headphone Jack Problem - Help!

Hi psychfunk,

Sound cards are unfortunately not wired that way :/ Inputs and outputs are not interchangeable. You'll need to either buy a USB external sound card, or get your laptop fixed.

Unless of course, it's not a hardware issue - are you experiencing the right-channel-only issue with multiple pairs of headphones, different speaker sets, etc?

Cheers,

I have tried 3 different stereo headphones plugged into the green headphone jack and they all have the same problem.  When I push the plug all the way in, I only have sound out of one headphone.  If I back the plug out about a 1/4 of way out the sound comes out both earphones.  These headphones work fine on my other laptop.  Has anyone else experienced this problem.  Any advice on if I can fix this myself?  I am going out of country for a month and can not send this back until I come back in December.

Answer:S10 Headphone jack problem

This s definately problem of jack of laptop - pins are in wrong place. You can't fix it by yourself, you'll have to send it to Lenovo.

Hey everyone! Sorry to post another question, but I couldn't find the answer anywhere, unfortunately :(
As you can see by the title, I have a problem with my headphone jack. What happens, is whenever I plug in my earphones (I've tried using a couple different pairs, the problem still persisted) I automatically get that blue screen with a sad face, that says that Windows ran into a problem and that it has to restart. What I wanted to ask of you, is there a way to fix this? I'd really appreciate any insight onto this problem, and if you can help me figure it out, it would be much appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to read this :)

edit; Probably should have made it clear that this problem started happening a few days ago, it was fine beforehand!

I don't know how it happened, but the headphone jack on my dell computer got ****** up. I probably kicked it or something, I don't know. All I do know is that it'll now only play audio out of the left channel. I can try to jingle it around to play out of both, but the second I take my hand off, it's lefty again.
Please, can someone help? This was one of my main gripes with the old crappy computer I had and this one is too new to be going through this crap all over again.

So I've had a Lenovo Yoga 710-151KB for about half a year now and it's been pretty good so far, at least compared to my previous laptop. However, its headphone jack suddenly stopped working today. It was working fine before I went to bed last night, and I haven't downloaded anything or even visited any websites other than youtube between then and now. All of my drivers are updated and the headphones work fine with my phone. Also, the laptop seems to recognize when they're plugged in (sound stops coming out of the speakers), but it doesn't recognize what they are (ie the Sound application still lists them as "disconnected"). I tried plugging in my roommate's headphones too and the same thing happened. What should I do?

Never mind - I updated my BIOS and the problem fixed itself!

If I jiggle the headphone jack it will shut off the latop speakers.  Tried other headphones same result, so problem is in the jack ( worn out, poor solder connections, etc?)  So I ordered a replacement jack from ebay it looks somewhat the same, but really won't know until I open the computer up.  My question has anyone replaced this headphone jack on this model?  Is it soldered in?  If so how did you replace it?  the one I purchased doesn't look like the leads on the replacement jack go beyond the jack itself.

This is an odd one...

I have a Yoga 2 Pro, which has served me very well for over a year now.

But very recently I have encountered a problem now.

The computer thinks headphones are plugged in all the time now! No sound will come out of the speakers, despite all the windows 10 software telling me that there is no problem, and that the speakers are the only outlet. Even the sound controls recognises sound (the equaliser rise and fall).

Sound works perfectly when the headphones are plugged in. And even more recently, the notification that goes 'Information: you have just plugged/unplugged a device into the audio jack' is now alternating andspamming my laptop every once in a while, with sound coming in, and then turning off, with nothing in the jack!
Any advice would be welcomed, as I have trawled the internet to find a solution, yet have come up empty handed.

I'm not an owner of your model, but one thought came to mind.  Possibly the contacts inside the headphone port are sticking thus the machine thinks the headphones are always inserted.  Try repeatedly inserting and removing the headphone plug to see if the problem will clear.

Hello,

I just purchased a new notebook, and I have a bit of a problem. When I plug headphones into the side headphone jack, the sound quality is downright terrible. Very shortly I noticed that it didn't sound as good/decent as my older notebook.

The speakers seem to sound fine, well you know - as good as laptops can sound.

Right now I have two notebooks side by side:
a friends Samsung Series 3 (NP300E5C), with Windows 8 (upgraded from W7) / Microsoft High Definition audio
my Toshiba L50 Windows 8 / Realteck High Definition

I dont have my older notebook anymore, but I do remember it sounding better. Comparing this Toshiba to the Samsung (both sitting on the desk side-by-side), the Toshiba sounds a little better through the speakers, but there is no comparison with the headphone - The Samsung is pretty decent while the Toshiba makes me cry.

Now granted, I'm not expecting a symphony, but if I cant solve this I'm going to have to sell the Toshiba.

I've tried uninstalling Realtek, but I couldn't get the sound to work.
Re-installing Realtek solved nothing

One thing I noticed, there is no 'headphone' icon in the device manager (Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound / or simply right click the audio icon in the taskbar). Are the headphones not high definition or something?

Method A:
1.  Go to the Control Panel by right click the bottom left corner in "Desktop" mode.
2.  Search for "Realtek HD Audio Manager".
3.  Set the headphone as communication device (see image below).

Also please let me know if you can hear also the sound from the headphone itself

So whenever I plug in my headphones to my laptop while I'm watching a video a notification comes up telling me that I just plugged in my headphones. It's useless information and I know how to turn it off but the real problem is that when that message comes up my sound goes away for a few seconds. I just got the y50 fresh out the box and the headphone jack doesn't accept any of my headphones. I've tried two different headohones and a mic. Whenever I put one in they only fit in so far but not far enough to stay in, but just enough that if your holding it in yourself the computer will register it's there. However, if you don't it just pops out. I don't know if there's such a thing as the length being to much or something or if my labtop is broken. If someone could clarify that'd be very helpful.

Answer:Problem with the Y50's headphone jack not accepting my headphones.

I've got the exact same problem.  Does anyone know how to fix this? And please don't say that we need a headset splitter. The problem is with the audio jack in the computer. It's not accepting the headphone jack all the way in. It only goes like 75% of the way in.

I have a HP Pavilion dv9601au laptop that came pre-installed with Vista. I downgraded it to XP. As a result, even though my speakers work fine, the headphone jacks have become useless.

My laptop speakers eventually stopped working after I accidentally violently yanked out my headphone plug from the jack.I could ignore that because I usually just use headphones anyway, later down the road however, I found my speaker jack so messed up internally(without needing to take a peek at it) that it makes my speakers LOUDLY  either beep screech shriek or buzz, and this is not a system beep that is quiet but noticeable this is a full on messed up audio problem, when I actually have audio playing (not just the internal fan SOMEHOW coming up in the audio stream, *censored* manufacturers and their laziness.) the audio plays distorted while buzzing etc, should I just open up the laptop and bend it back into place so it does not cause problems, or should I just rip it out? I could rip it out because I have already ordered an USB sound card with headphone/mic jack, but that wont fix the problem, the bigger problem this cause is that my laptop freezes as a result of whenever it happens

Hello Eight Forums.

My trouble is the audio output through headphones - background is louder than foreground (especially in music - I often cannot hear the vocals at all; movies however are mostly fine, for reasons unknown to me; but generally, the sound is always different in some way).

I only have one pair of headphones to test it with. However these always worked fine with previous machines, and still do work fine with my iPhone 4. Although they are surely not the case, I cannot with confidence say that if it were a loudspeaker instead things wouldn't have been different.

So this is either a software or a hardware issue.

Software

My computer (details at the bottom) came with a SoundBlaster X-Fi MB3 equalizer program and RealTek High Def Audio drivers. I've uninstalled SoundBlaster hoping it would fix the issue (I didn't need an extra program like that anyway) but alas to no avail. Updating the RealTek drivers did no good still.

The only thing I haven't touched is the ghostly NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (can it be the source of my trouble?) - I only first noticed it now when copy/pasting the Belarc data. I'll try and find out about it in the meanwhile.

Hardware

I wonder if it perhaps has something to do with my audio jack (laptop's brand new, but you can never know). I have what appears to be mic, headphone, S/PDIF and line in jacks... Is there a way to use the microphone or the line-in to test the headphones? To see if the headphone out is broken.

Any help appreci... Read more

Answer:Messed up headphone audio; want to check headphone jack

First, the "My System Specs" is where you fill in what you have.

Does the internal speakers on the laptop work? Is the audio OK on the internal speakers?

The SoundBlaster program(s) is a software enhancement to the basic audio chip (ReaklTek). Many PC's now come with some type of enhancement such as the SoundBlaster or in the case of HP PC's its "Beats Audio".

Answer:Laptop with combined mic/headphone jack, how to connect both mic & headphone ?

I haven't used one that had the port as a combined unit but I would assume you would need a headphone set with mic that has combined wiring, such as sets used for cell phones and such. You can also purchase an adapter that will split the port into 2 ports for mic and headphones.
Hope that gives you an idea

Well, I uninstalled my audio drivers and noticed that there was a red led shining from inside the 3.5mm headphone jack, which I assume is a mini optical audio (digital) combo 3.5mm audio (analog) jack, and I am figuring that it determins if there is an optical plug or not using drivers, which is why it turned on when I unistalled my audio drivers. I would like to know for sure before I go and buy a mini optical to toslink adpater cable so I can get better audio quality out (the digital interface does not suffer from the interference that the analog does right?). I did some research (research is a bit of an overstatement) and found no sites that mentioned it, so I have decided to turn to the forums. So, is this an optical jack combo? And, how will it work in terms of the drivers, will it just auto select? Thanks.

Click the Start button.2. Type Beats Audio and select the Beats Audio Control Panel.3. Select Advanced Settings from the top menu.4. Under Jack Information uncheck the box that says Enable auto pop up dialog, when device has been plugged in." What's happening is that my laptop's audio is working with earbud, headphones (anything that works with the headphone jack). But the problem is that terrible Beats software. So if I watch a youtube video with the earbuds then remove them, the laptop audio works perfectly fine! Then Beats kicks in and recognizes that I just unplugged a device when it says "You just unplugged a device." Which makes pefect sense. Because I just removed the earbuds. And for a few seconds, the audio from my laptop (speakers) works perfectly fine. But then Beats audio malfunctions and says that "You just plugged a device...". WHICH IS WRONG. So I tried to follow the steps written by RandShouse but step 4 is not even there. For some reason, I don't have the checkbox and I could go to Control Panel > Sys and Security > Hardware and Sound > Realtek. But I don't have realtek (which has it's better way of dis... Read more

Hi, I just bought a dell 5567 laptop. The problem is that when I try to connect ordinary 3.5mm earphones  to my laptop's headphone port it doesn't go all the way in. Do I need an adapter for this?

Answer:3.5 mm headphone jack won't fit in headphone/mic combo jack.

JSmith887Do I need an adapter for this?
No it should go in. We have been getting reports of tight jacks. Don't know if it's a quality control issue. Try some different ones and insert more firmly than normally.
If none will go in all the way, but you do hear the audio, I wouldn't be too concerned. If not getting audio (the selection popup does not appear) because it won't go in, then contact tech support or send it back.

Hello Forum, I hope I'm posting this in the right place...?

My device:G780 Notebook (M843RGE I3-2370M), Windows 7
Audio Driver: Conexant Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 Version  8.54.32.50 (Smart Audio: 6.0.131.0)

Situation:My headphone jack is broken. Repair is too expensive. Instead, I want to redirect the audio signal to the microphone jack.

Problem:This seems not to be possible with my SmartAudio interface (Screenshot below). But I found a screenshot of exactly the function I need called "Jack Configuration" in the Help section (second screenshot below). It looks like I dont have the right system configuration (whatever that means, I'm not an IT/PC expert ...) to use this feature.

My question:
Is there any way I can reconfigure the audio jacks on my notebook? Do I need another Conexant Audio Driver software and if yes, which one?

I'm grateful for any helpful reaction!

I bought a Sunbeam Trio computer case a year ago and it has a headphone jack in the front. I plug my headphones into it and it gives me all kinds of noises (amplifies hard-drive activity, can hear fan motion, and general annoying high pitched hissing). Its not much a problem when I have music blasting but it is when I have them on and nothing is playing.

I'd really like the convenience of front port head phone access but will plug it into the back if need be. The thing is, the sound inputs on the back of the case (from motherboard) don't work. I've tried fixing it but it wont output sound.

My question is, is it common for computer cases with front headphone jacks to give extra feedback noises through headphones compared to plugging into a sound card? Does my problem have to do with the case itself, the motherboard, or something I did wrong?

Also, would buying a cheap PCI soundcard and plugging it into the back probably fix my problem? I want to be able to plug my headphones and listen to music without any extra noise coming out of them except music

Answer:Super annoying problem with headphone jack on front of case

i had the same problem w/ my front headphone jack. whenever i would talk, people tell me im getting crazy feedback. the one on the motherboard sounded fine.

Answer:headphone jack broken off in headphone plug in

TOMMYSS,
If you purchased complete care from Dell you can call into Dell Alienware Support at 1 (877) 330-9732. If you did not you can possibly take it back to the store you purchased it from to see if they can help you. You can also try removing it yourself. Just make sure that it is unplugged before attempting to remove it.

Alright, so here's the problem. I just recently got this computer and plugged it into the VGA port and the sound wouldn't work. I plugged Logitech External Speakers into it and the computer didn't even acknowledge that it was there. I plugged in Headphones to see if those worked and they didn't aswell. I asked the guy who I got the computer from and he said that it (sound) would work when plugged in using HDMI. So I did that and the sound does work, but only through the TV speakers. It still doesn't acknowledge the speakers or the headphone s when plugged in. So I wen t and grabbed some other speakers I had and tried those and It still didn't recognize the speaker. My question is: How Do I Get My Computer To Recognize My Speakers? Any help would be much appreiciated.

First of all my laptop doesn't seem to acknowledge when I put my headphones/external speakers in the jack... no notification or reaction from the Laptop.2. Second- only left headphone is working. Other than that the laptop speakers are good, the only problem is with the jack. What I've done is to reset my PC, to return it to it's factory settings... but no change! Still the same problem!Laptop is new.. less than 3 months..  I am desperate... I really hope there's something I can do and you could help me with that! I purchased  a  3.5mm 4 Position TRRS Male to 2x 3 Position TRS Female Headset Splitter Adapter for my hyperx cloud headphones to plug into my XPS 15, except the microphone isn't working when its plugged in.
When I plug them in a window comes up 'which device did you plug in?' Mic in, Line in, Dell Devices (lists random unknown devices to me), Headphones/headset - headphones medium, external speakers - external speakers medium. Are these details correct? should something about the microphone come up also? I go to sound options, recording and it's still using the microphone in the laptop.
I tested the headphones on another laptop without the jack and the microphone on the headset is working great. So it's either the splitter isn't doing it's job... or something to do with the laptop, any ideas?

Answer:XPS 15 9560 Headphone jack function as a mic jack?

Well for your case, the headSET option would be correct, since that means a device that offers both headphones (audio out) and a mic -- but note that you do apparently also have a Mic In option, though this would prevent audio output to the headphones.  However, if selecting the headset option isn't working, the issue with the TRRS "standard" is that it isn't a standard. The industry never agreed on which pins would be used for which connectors (Ground, Mic, Left Audio, Right Audio).  I think Samsung did it one way and Apple did it another, for example, and this of course causes interoperability issues.  So if choosing "headset" isn't working, it's probably because the XPS is expecting Option A and your splitter is wired for Option B.Theoretically, given that the audio chipset allows the pins to be dynamically assigned to various purposes depending on the device that's plugged in, it MIGHT be possible to have a "Headset" and "Headset (Alternate Mode)" device option in order to accommodate both TRRS configurations, but I seem to recall one of the TRRS implementation differences being where the Ground pin was placed, and maybe that pin can't be reassigned simply via software, which might explain the absence of such an option. Sorry!

I'd like to plug my speakers into the back speaker jack and headphones to the front jack. I can't do this and have both work at the same time. I have a cheapo Insight speaker with a volume puck that lets me plug a headphone jack but then the speakers turn off.

Seems to me with front panel and rear panel jacks I should be able to do this but so far, I'm stumped.

Any ideas?

Answer:How to configure headphone jack and speak jack together

Depends on the sound card you got. Realtek HD Audio Manager has a Device Advanced Settings option at top right, You can un-tick "Mute rear output ..." and see if it works.

Hi,

I am using a Tiny Media Notebook PIII, 700, Windows 98 SE. The computer is about four years old, and by now the headphone jack, which I use as my sound out port, is about fryed. The contacts have deteriated, and I can not replace the jack, as it is connected to the motherboard. Thus, aside from opting for a usb sound out, such as taking up the Soundblaster MP3+ option, I was wondering if I could reprogram the way in which sound is connected to external devices such as headphones. There are three jacks on the front of my computer: the headphone jack, the microphone jack and er I think it is a line out jack - the later jack which I have never used. Is there anyway I can swop/substitute the connection via the headphone jack say for the microphone jack or line out jack. Is there anyway I could do this?

Answer:Substituting the headphone jack with the microphone jack

No, afraid not. Each jack has it's own circuitry which provides for the needed resistance and other parameters. What you could do, if you got to the mobo itself, is to physically replace the jack but that's a major pain on a laptop.

You can try two things, one is to use alcohol and a Q-Tip to thoroughly clean the jack, then use a small bit of steel wool to sand inside with and then again with the alcohol and two, if the jack's worn too big for a tight connection, is to go to Radio Shack and buy a plug in adapter for that size jack. Some come with a slightly oversized male end and then you could plug into the female end and have a tight connection.

Question: Headphone Jack

I accidentally broke a headphone plug off in the jack of my Gateway NE56R31 laptop. I have tried several different methods of removing it. One method included superglue which I am pretty sure has now glued the piece in. I am looking for suggestions for removing the plug or disabling the jack so that I have sound on my computer. Would a pair of USB headphones work? I mostly only use headphones when using my laptop. Thank you.

Answer:Headphone Jack

With the plug superglued into the jack, now the only way to fix the issue is with a replacement system board for the laptop. I don't know that USB or Bluetooth headphones would provide sound.

Hey guys,
So I bought a XPS 15 9560 16gig ram, with 512 ssd, i7 FHD screen, it arrived 5 days ago and I loved it, its simply the best laptop ever. However, I am met with a strange issue, my headphone jack is useless, not as in the widespread problem with it but its physically useless, every headphone I tried to plug in, is literally not pluging in, like it will go in and just fall out...
So out of curiousity I took some pictures of the headphone jack and put flashlight next to it to see what is going on, and this is what I got:
Is this suppose to be like this? Am I doing something wrong? or am I right for assuming the worst is that dell didn't physically put a headphone jack assembly in my laptop? Please help.
Thanks, oh and if it is the latter, I'm going to return it and never touch dell ever again, its quite insane how poor the QA is.

Question: Headphone Jack??

I have a GW M6307 with Vista HP 32bit. The headphone jack has suddenly stopped working.
I have done a restore back to when it was working..uninstalled and reinstalled audio drivers without results. The IDT control panel indicates something else is plugged into the jack both for the mic and HP. I also reinstalled the MS audio drivers that came with the machine. I cannot find any default anywhere to change any setting regarding this. The laptop speakers work but the default to HP when plugged in does not. The speakers conitnue to play with no sound in the HP.There are no indications of a loose connection and the laptop sits on a desk most of the time. I realize this could be a hardware failure but it's hard to believe and I know the headphones work with other devices.
Does any know where a default setting exists or how to confirm a hardware failure??

Answer:Headphone Jack??

If the HP works on other devices ..then its Ok....
So must be your pc .......
Go to device manager ... uninstall the sound card driver ... REBOOT IMMEDIATELY..."Let your pc install the original driver back"...

HiIf the red LED is inside the headphone socket then this is for optical out, i.e. connecting your laptop to a surround sound amplifier using an optical cable and the red LED light isn't for finding the connection in the dark but is for carrying digital data.   The microphone socket doesn't output digital audio so it has no LED light inside it.RegardsPhil

I have a Acer TravelMate 3260. Its about a year or so old, and I am having problems with the headphone jack. For some programs it will work and others it will not. Now, I have all my music on Windows Media Player, and the headphones will not work when I plug them in. I cant hear any of my music. When the "sense pin" fails then there is usually this combination of symptoms:    * Speakers don't work and are not muted or deselected    * Headphone jack does work    * Reinstalling audio driver does not help    * Audio test in Dell 32-bit Diagnostics passes, or the speakers work in PSA tests    * On models with 2 headphone jacks, one may be "checked" in the control panel as if in use    * Sometimes but not always, a very gentle wigg... Question: Headphone Jack.

Hey there, I've so I think there must be a problem with my headphone jack, for some reason when I connect my headphone to the jack, I can always only hear on one side of the headphone. I can only hear on both sides when I apply some force to the jack, pushing it to the left and I would have to hold it to that position to get it working properly. I forgot since when I had this problem, but it has been like this for quite some time. and when I plug in the same set of headphones to my phone, it works just fine. I've tried this with 3 different headphones and a pair earphones and the problem still persists, so I'm assuiming it is the jack port that is faulty. I've been okay with having this problem because I would always usually just plug in both headphone and audio jacks in the cpu and insert a pen in between both the jacks, having the headphone jack pushed to the left all the time and making it always work. But just recenly I bought an external kareoke microphone which I planned on using to beatbox with, and when I record and playback, I can only hear from the left side of my headphone. Kinda ticks me off because I've spent a lot of money on my headphones, microphone and microphone jack converter but I still can't get the best out of my products. Plus, I would always switch from speakers to headphones, depending on whether I'm listening to music or gaming. What should I do? :/ (Sorry if I've sent any irrelevant information or my English is bad)

I see that a lot of people have had this problem, and I have been trying to fix it but I am out of ideas. I have a Compaq Presario V3000 and ever since I installed Windows 7 Pro 32-bit, the headphone jack doesn't work. No entry for Headphones shows up in my Playback devices. I am pretty sure it is that my current driver is not compatible with Win7, but is there any other driver that I would be able to use in order to get this to work? The laptop speakers work, however they do not mute. Please let me know if you can help or if you need more info about my hardware. Thanks.

Just added another XPS 13 to our growing Dell family. Got everything set up juuust so... only now to discover that you can't plug headphones into the jack. It will only go in half way before becoming obstructed. Has anyone had this happen? I know what needs to happen next, it's just *** me off.

Answer:Headphone jack and the 9360.

We have had several reports this year of the jacks being especially tight in some of the newer models, but a complete obstruction would mean that something has gotten inside the jack, or it is damaged,  or a ma manufacturing defect.

Hi guys. I have a problem with my "just over 1 year old" HP notebook (cnx9005).

My headphone jack appears to be faulty because when I insert ANY headphones/speakers, sound only comes from the left side.

When I wiggle the wire a lot, then I get stereo sound, but as soon as I let go it goes one sided again. How frustrating.

This is a problem that has been getting worse and worse over time with more and more wiggling required to get stereo sound as time goes by. Is this problem repairable?

I should add that the speakers on the laptop itself do not suffer from this problem. ONLY when external speakers/headphones are connected to the jack does this occur.

The worst thing is that as it's a month over a year old, it's also a month out of warranty. Do these things have a timer on them in which they can work perfectly fine as long as you have a guarantee, but blow up as soon as the guarantee's over? LOL

Perhaps i should consider buying a USB or PCMCIA sound card, probably cheaper than getting it repaired. I don't know! Help!

Thanks in advance.

Hi Forum,I use my computer a fair amount for music editing and my amplifier has just died on me.The Amp I was using was very cheap and didn't need to do anything special.Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to find anything similar now.All I need to do is convert an Audio RCA input to a headphone jack output. The signal needs to be amplified as the input signal static so simply connecting straight to the RCA won't work.Anyone got any ideas of the cheapest way to do this? Or anyone know where I can get a cheap amp with a headphone jack output and RCA input? As always, any help appreciated.

Answer:Audio RCA to Headphone Jack?

I should imagine a trip to your local Maplins would sort you out. They have a wireless RF Headphone set (L 47 AA) which plugs into your source and Bobs your uncle ! Alternatively they have a cheap audio amp on a board which you can easily convert to your requirements with a couple of RCA plugs and sockets. OR, try EBay ???

I have a Fugitsu Lifebook Series A laptop. It has always performed well in the past. I bought some higher quality Monster headphones and now no sound will come out of the headphones. It says that the phones are not plugged in when they are. I have run the troubleshooter in the control panel with no success.
Any suggestions?

Answer:Headphone jack in, no sound

Hi first test the headphones in another computer and if working there try reinstalling the sound driver available from the fujitsu support pages for your model.

I bought a brand new Edge 425 a couple of weeks back and I've never been able to get any headphones to work on the headphone jack. The speakers work perfectly, but in low-noise areas I wouldn't be able to watch any videos or anything with sound because it'll just play through the laptop's speakers. I've downloaded the drivers from Lenovo's support page several times yet it doesn't solve the problem. I'd right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar to see if headphones were even listed as a playback device and it is not. Oddly enough when I uninstalled the audio drivers I was able to have "headphone" as an option however sound would still not play through them. I'm loving every other bit of my laptop, but this headphone problem is getting on my nerves.

Answer:Headphone jack not being detected

hey heavydutypillow, welcome to the forums, try uninstalling the audio drivers and let windows install its generic drivers and then test the headphone jack.see if this works, if it doesn't.. contact our support group via : http://bit.ly/LNVsuppNum

I discovered that my Headphone-Line-In is defect. Therefore I tried to call the service twice and both time the people on the phone just hang up on me!! The first time because I was not finding the M/T number fast enough and the second time because the Spanish of my girlfriend was not Colombian enough! Therefore I am here: Here is a video illustrating the problem:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snWetM4spBU The male part can wiggle just 1mm back and forth in the female part and the laptop looses contact. Consequently the laptop switches between headphones and his normal speakers. But you can hear that the jack locks properly in place and it is even very hard to disconnect again. I guess that the inside part of the headphone jack is not well anchored in his place. My second problem is my pen which did not work from the start:On the 24th of May I got a nice call from the Service and after reinstalling all driver etc. we came to the conclusion that the pen must be defect and they would send me a new one. And now finally the pen arrived and after giving him half a day of charging, he still refuses to work. Therefore I believe that also here the connection from the charging dock of the pen to the motherboard could be defect. Any thoughts? Is there a way that I can request a complete new machine? It seems that my P40 is a "Monday" production and I fear that more stuff will come loose soon! Any Tips?

I SOLVED this in my reply below!

Hi everyone,

I have updated my Compaq Presario V3030CA to Windows 7 Home Premium and only since then I have not been able to use my headphone jack for audio.

I have read many threads on this issue in this forum and elsewhere on the Internet, tried several of the solutions offered but to no avail...

As with many others, I do get sound through the laptop speakers. When I plug in my (perfectly working) pair of headphones, the sound on the speakers does not turn off and of course I am not getting anything in my headphones.

Here is what I see when I go to the Control Panel/Sound. In Playback, I get Speakers - High Definition Audio Device - Default Device. Clicking on its Properties I see the High Definition Audio Device driver is from Microsoft. I have tried to disable, uninstal, update this driver but to no avail. I have also tried to replace it with other drivers recommended in different forums (including from the Compaq website) but that also did not work.

Back in the Playback window, I see the Digital Audio (S/PDIF) icon with Ready state. There is no Headphones icon even when I right click and Show Disabled Devices.

In the Recording pane, the Line in icon shows a status of Not Plugged in with a red arrow pointing downwards.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Mike

Answer:Headphone jack issue in W7 ?!?

SOLVED!!!!!!!

I uninstalled the W7 audio drivers. I tried again to download the audio driver from Compaq (Select software and drivers Compaq Presario V3000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)) but this time while I reinstalled that driver, I noticed that W7 was reinstalling its own drivers b/f the Compaq driver could be installed. So when the Compaq driver installation paused to ask me a question, I went back in Control Panel/Sound to again uninstall the W7 audio driver. I went back to the Compaq driver installation, let it finished and my headphones are now working!!!!!

i got a problem with my headphone jack. I only hear sound on the right side, not on the left. tried different headphones, same problem. Did the soundtest from the configurationpanel , same problem. Anyone who can help? laptop is a few months out of warenty so a repair by Acer isn't an option(if it is a hardware error).

Answer:aspire v3-571 headphone jack

This issue can be issue with hardware or software, To isolate, if your computer Operating system is Widnows 8 or 8.1, try refreshing the Operating System and check it, if the issue persist after refresh then issue should be hardware caused by the wires inside getting disconnected.

I own an IBM T30 laptop, the headphone jack got damaged, the headphone jack still works if the headpnhone plug is inserted and held in a certain way.
I would like to know how to slide open the headphone, microphone plastic cover.
My goal is to replace the headphone jack if necessary, I have already removed one screw that clearly holds this plastic cover in place but this cover won't budge.
How simple is it to replace the headphone jack on this T30 ?

Thank You !

Answer:T30 headphone jack damaged

Can you solder?.... That will be the only way to replace the jack I am afraid And I would suspect you will have to remove the entire base of the laptop to reach the audio ports, not just one screw.. it just gets worse.... If you really need to you would be best paying to have it repaired at a shop.

Hi all,

I can't get sounds to come out of various headsets connected to the front headphone jack. USB speakers are working.

Sound > Playback ... no headphones appearing even after showing disconnected/disabled devices. Doesn't work under the HDA default device either.

Just done a fresh install of everything and upgraded the folks computer to windows 7 SP1 from XP SP3 in hope of a fix. They used to work, but stopped working at some point while I was away... (back headphone jack too, so we purchased USB speakers.)

There's a lot of thread on google with this problem but none of 'em have worked for me. Which driver should I download?

Attached is a summary of my spec's generated by Everest.

Answer:Headphone jack - no sound

Some machines you can not output on two devices at the same time, unless you make changes in the Sound panel. First off, what OS, who is the manufacturer & model of the machine, what is the sound driver (ie Realtek hd).
