Best Video Editing Software @ A Reasonable Price

Question: Best Video Editing Software @ A Reasonable Price

Hi guys!!

Okay, my camcorder is a Panasonic GS-150 (I bought it 1 year ago and still not for sure if that was a good purchase or not, but oh well i'm stuck with it now) and I mostly use it to make movies w/friends and family. I write screenplays and direct them, act in them, what not and I'm hoping to finally upgrade to a better video editing software besides Windows Movie Maker. Now, I have no big complaints about WMM, its been very kind to me and user friendly, but I've way over-used all the transitions and video effects they have to offer. Also, my ideal software would have the ability to put a clip on top of a clip. I don't even know if that's possible, but it sounds like a neat idea to me sense I don't have a green screen handy! I am just a meager wanna-be M. Night Shyamalan here My budget is minimal and I'm hoping not to exceed $80.

Any advise, opinions, tips & tricks and what-not is very appreciated!! THANKS GUYS! YOUR AWESOME!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

I'm currently looking into buying a new server for the company I'm interning at. The issue is I'm somewhat clueless about IT in general, so I'm concerned an offer I've received for a Dell PowerEdge T430 server which I've pasted below is a rip off. The price I've been quoted is $4020,10.

Here are the specs:
"Server Dell PowerEdge T430 8B, (1)*Intel Xeon E5-2630v4 Processor (2.2GHz, 10C, 25MB, 8.0GT/s QPI, 85W), 32GB (2x16GB) 2400MHz RDIMM, PERC H330, DVD+/-RW, (2)*1TB SATA 6Gbps 7.2k 3.5" HD Hot Plug (up to 8x3.5"HDD), Broadcom 5720 GbE Dual Port on board, IDRAC8 Ent., (2)*750W, No Rails, 3y NBD"

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Also if it helps the initial uses of the server would be secure data storage, hosting an email service for 12 staff members, and if possible setting up a hybrid disaster recovery solution, for instance linking the service to a cloud based service like Microsoft Azure.

If anyone out there can suggest a cheaper and viable alternative that would be ace!

Best regards,

James

My other question is how much does it cost to upgrade Vista 32bit to Vista 64bit? My software source (school) only sells the 32bit versions (for hella cheap).

Should I suck it up and get Vista Home 64bit from Newegg for $99 or try to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit (which hopefully would be cheaper)?

Answer:what's a reasonable price for vista home 64?

Buy the 32bit version from your school, and acquire a 64bit disc by other means. Your serial will work on either (Vista/Win7 are both this way).

My nephew suggested recently that I buy some extra memory for my Dell Dimensiion 8250 computer, which is a couple of years old. Knowing that I have Rambus RD-RAM, he searched the Net and told me RD-RAM was both harder to find and more expensive than he expected.

He went to PrimeWatch and found only two websites which had RD-RAM available. Then he went to eBay and told me I could pay $400 for 1G of CD1066 RD-RAM or $256 for 1G of PC 800 RD-RAM.

I have two slots of 256 RD-RAM -- PC 1066, unless I'm mistaken -- which means I have two open slots. My nephew told me I could fill the two open slots with 512 PC 1066, which would give me 1.5 G total. Or, he said, my PC could hold up to 2 G of PC 800 RD-RAM. (All of this terminology is new to me, but my nephew appears to understand it quite well.)

I remember hearing a while back that the price of memory was dropping rapidly, but my nephew told me that seems to have changed. Is it possible that I could find better prices for RD-RAM than those shown on eBay?

Answer:How easy is it to find RD-RAM at a reasonable price?

I am trying to find a touchscreen monitor that is actually priced reasonably. It needs to be between 10 and 12 inches and the pixel resolution needs to be at least 1024x768.

I can't find any for a fair price. They make all kinds of good ones though... for $250 and up! They can't be THAT expensive since you can buy android tablets for like $150. Even mouser doesn't carry touchscreen LCD panels anymore that have a greater resolution than 640x480.

I have managed to find ONE that has a somewhat reasonable price but it's sold by a shady looking seller. Half of the reviewers didn't receive a working unit and the other half did.

I call ******** on these prices. They don't cost that much to produce. Something like that shouldn't cost more than $100. I'm not willing to spend more than $150 on a touchscreen monitor unless the resolution is 1280x720 or greater and even then I'm not spending more than 175-200.

So where is a place you can buy these from that are priced reasonably? If there are none, can I buy a $100-$150 android tablet just for the LCD panel, take it apart and somehow re wire everything up for use with a PC?

Hi,

I need to replace a TP-Link N600 router that is constantly dropping G-wifi. The N seems stable enough but TP-Link customer disservice is working at it's peak. Totally hopeless. I have been trying to get them to to take it back for warranty-repairs and all they keep telling me to do is update the firmware.

I had done that before I even contacted them the first time. I am now using some of their Beta firmware and still no change. I have had it with TP-Link.

So, looking for 4 x Gigabit LAN, G and N wifi at 450 to 600 Gb. An AC-wifi might be nice, but when N is working right, it does all I need. I still need G for my windows phone. {sigh}

I have just tried Zyxel, Edimax and Netgear. Returned them all as the TP-Link when running right had much better power output on both G and N ate distances. Linksys, not even slightly interested in, so what's left? If a Buffalo, I'd want a non-DD-Wrt version. DD-Wrt is great but too time consuming to configure.

Anyone with personal experience of a router they love that doesn't cost a $100+, care to chime in here.

Thanks

Answer:Decent Router at reasonable price? NOT TP-Link

I got a little-known Router from Western Digital [yeah, the hard drive company] over a year and a half ago, cost $60. When I first got it I'd have to turn the Wi-Fi off [switch on the front] about once a week to re-establish it. After about a month I got a firmware update for it and haven't had a problem since. It's been running 24/7 since 9/11 but we had a transformer blow down the road that day and were without power 6AM until about 7PM that day. Didn't help to also have 10" of snow.

I've set up D-Link and Netgear Routers and haven't had call-backs on them yet.

There is really no proper freeware available which is as easy to use as Audacity.

If you are looking for a freeware and up for some reading and experimentation then go for VirtualDub. Literally it can do almost anyhting that a paid one can do, but it is really for some techie mind.

Otherwise, you can go for Pinnacle's or Ulead's any home solution products. Those will be cheaper and produces good result and very user friendly. I suggest that you check out Ulead's Video Studio.

Hope this helps you.

recently I have wanted to get into video editing and I decided to try out a few different video editing software tools. I tried windows movie maker 2.6 first and it kept skipping when I would preview clips and freezing. The same thing is happening with the trial version of adobe's premiere elements 9 trial version. For adobe, it told me to download the latest video driver that was compatible so i did and it allowed me to see my videos and use it a little bit but it would not be able to keep up and would freeze occasionally. Does this have to do with my graphics card? This is what I could find of my computers information (i typed dxdiag in run):

System:

Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (6.1, Build 7600)
System Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
System model: Satellite A505
BIOS: InsydeH20 Version 1.20
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~1.6GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX11

And I guess this is my graphics card:

Name: NVIDIA GeForce 310M
Chip Type: Geforce 310M
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Approx. Total Memory: 2256 MB
Current Display mode: 1366 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

P.s. I'm not very computer savvy so keep that in mind :-/

Answer:Wondering if I should upgrade video card for video editing software

yes the graphics card seems to be the weak link in your setup, you could try searching for msi afterburner to try to overclock your graphics card but failing that i would upgrade your graphics card

Without going into all the excruciating details (and they ARE excruciating), my system simply will not recognize my canon altura digital video camera. Here are my basic system specs:

Motherboard msi kt7 lite with duron 900mhz chip

I used to do video editing all the time with MGI video wave 3, now although it installs fine, when I go to capture video, I get the message "one of more arguments are invalid," and it won't capture. I tried capture with the Ulead software, but it gives me a similar error message. Here is what I've done so far:

* Checked user forums for MGI video wave, which turned up lots of other people suffering the same issue, which MGI hasn't been able to solve. There were several possible solutions offered, all of which I tried, and none of which worked. The natural thing would be to try other software, which I did (Ulead), but I had the same problem.

* spent lots of time with tech support for ulead, mgi, and ms. All were unable to help.

* uninstalled and reinstalled several times each piece of software.

* reinstalled windows.

Answer:video editing software will not see digital video camera

I should have mentioned: the system DOES see the camera; it's right there, but it won't capture.

Also, I spent some time with Belkin tech support to see if it was a firewire issue, but they weren't able to help. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the firewire card and software several times.

Are there free video editing software without getting watermark in your video ?

More replies
Relevance 66.01%

Hello,

I need help finding Video editing software compatible with Vista/Win7 that can do the following:

- Remove watermarks from videos.
- Put your own created watermark on a video
- Blur out faces
- Cut parts of the video image
- Edit and draw on the video, replacing the cut piece with a still image, or even another piece of a video

So I guess basically I'm looking for all-out video editing.

I'd prefer freeware. But anything will do if that's all available.

It's no problem if I have to use different programs for each thing.

My current system is a Dell XPS 430 and can handle video editing pretty well.

Thanks!!

Answer:Need video editing software for altering video image

I don't think you will get any help here to remove someone elses watermark from a video that doesn't belong to you. The watermark is put there to discourage copying. Helping you I believe would be against forum rules.

Hello One and AllI am juat about ready to tear my hair out trying to find some software for video editing software that actually works. We now have a camcorder, but the software that came with it is 5 year out of date and NOT user friendly ie:Ulead VideoStudeo 5 and cannot be upgraded as it is out of date, plus it is crap. Have tried various others, to no avail. These editing tasks take up a lot of time which I don't have. The one proggie that I have had the most success with is Windows Movie Maker.... there is always a but, when I have tried to add audio wav files, on playback I am continuously getting a beep beep beep sound continuously from beginning to end, plus it does not burn to DVD, only CD which is not recognised by our DVD player, which is new. Any suggestions would be appreciated, before I have no hair left,

I have a plextor type capture device + WinDVD crreator 2.x (i'm not going to upgrade ill I understand this problem) and a NEC burner

1. The mpeg files I make from the VHS tape come out very nice. They play on my computer just fine though even huge monsters (4GB files are not fun). I capture at max quality. The raw source lands up being about 6GB for 2 hours (4GB first file is about 1.2 hours of content).

2. The burning portion seems to work correctly if I have another program make the DVD files (when I convert DIVX to DVD).

3. However, when I author a disc with WinDVD creator 2.x it lands up going on pixelated after about 10 seconds then locks up my stand alone DVD player as well as my neighbors.

So the question is, is it WinDVD creator making me coasters with the authoring conversion or is it something else. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Video Editing for DVD, is it the software or something else

WinDVD creator 2.x for me when I use it with too large a file it acts up by losing the volume but I found that by first converting it to .wmv format that this will decrease the files overall size and solve the problem.

You could also try using HJSplit to split the file to equal parts that are smaller.

The best free one is Tmpgenc at click here which is v g. You'll convert the avi (or dv in editing suite) to mpeg1 for vcd's. If you get hooked (like we do)on dv editing there's a great kit for circa £70 ScreenBlast Movie Studio click here which is rock solid (and I've tried a lot). I use Ulead Video Studio 11.5+. I'm still just learning what all it can do, but it seems pretty feature rich. You can check it out here: Video Editing - Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus - Corel Corporation

Unfortunately its not free ($109.97 USD) at the site. There's a try button so you can check it out.

Does anyone have any experience with any video editing software out there??
Im looking for a program that can put together a nice ~20m clip with tons of transitions and effects and being able to add MULTIPLE audio tracks......not just 1 or 2 tracks......
ive been looking into Adobe Premiere 6.5 but im not sure if that has the features im looking for. I also have heard its rather unstable at times.......is that due to software or hardware? *shrug* The program itself is like $600 through Adobe (so ive read) but ive found it bundled with a firewire card and extras for roughly $250.....

anyway.......any ideas? suggestions?

Answer:PC Video Editing Software

Personally I wouldn't bother with adobe premiere. Take a look over at www.pinnaclesys.com as you'll find Edition 5 a very tough product to beat, and its around the same price as premiere. It has unlimited audio tracks capability plus hardware video acceleration support. Nothing else comes close. There are also various lower cost alternatives, so take a look around that site.

Ive tried everything and have been now working with Adobe Premiere Pro for over 4 years.

You need to know what your doing, but you can do just about anything with it. The built in filters allow you to manifest whatever your mind can dream up, but you need to know how to use and manipulate them.

Start using it, even if you cant make sense of it, play with it, and with time youll get it.

I'm curious about how films were edited.
What editing software did producers and filmmakers were using to create a film with awesome effects?

Answer:Video Editing Software

Film makers, that is Hollywood, still use film. TV shows, news etc, use mostly Avid. This is a very expensive software that runs on very expensive and usually dedicated computers. Software was about $10K a few years ago.
For mere mortals, Adobe Premiere or Premiere Elements is a good alternative and will do just about everything almost anything one would want to do.
Just what do you have in mind or just asking?

But like the man says: there are downsides to 'free' in terms of limited feature set and non-intuitive user interfaces.
I'm a long time Adobe Premiere user, and it's rated as among the best - if not the best - video editing packages. However, the full version costs several hundred quid.
The good news is that there is also Adobe Premiere Elements. I don't know it personally, but if it's anything like Adobe Photoshop Elements, it contains around 80% of the functionality (which is more than enough for most users) for less than 10% of the price.
Take a look for it on eBay: it looks like there are some bargains to be had.

I need to make some simple edits to video footage. The files that need editing are in the following format: QuickTime, DVD, and episodes bought on Itunes. I need then put them in a format that someone can put together a DVD reel out of them. I don't have a DVD burner, would a CD burner do the trick? As I'm paying $750 for the person to do my reel, I'm hoping someone can suggest a free or trial software that can accomplish this. I'm not an expert at slicing and dicing, but I'm pretty good with instructions. Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks, Stephanie

P.S. The QuickTime file I have plays in stops and starts. The person who gave me the file said maybe my processor isn't fast enough - but it's a Pentium (2, I think). I would love to upload it to my hard drive on my computer and see if that fixes the problem, but there are no options to do so. How would you do this? Any other suggestions how to fix this problem?

Answer:Video Editing Software

You can do it with freeware but your PC will not handle it at all.

You can either go with the $750. OUCH. Maybe shop around.

Or get a new system built for video editing.

Look in the guide section.

Hi,guys ,I was wondering if you can help get a really good video editing software for PC.Im trying to either buy any Software under $100 or paying under $50 a month.(Using it for YouTube gaming). Can you guys help me out?Pls.

Answer:Best Video Editing Software (PC)

If your looking for a one time payment of under $100 then I suggest Sony movie studio. I have it and its is really great!
Although since you brought up $50 a month, I would recommend Adobe Premier, which is arguably the best video editing software to date. It is the industry standard, and is used widely by professional video editors. Adobe allows you to use this software for $20 a month through creative cloud as a single license. While for $50 a month you can get the entire creative cloud suite, which includes Adobe Premier, adobe after effects, adobe flash professional, and pretty much every other adobe creative software.
It's an excellent package that I recommend. I have a creative cloud membership for adobe flash professional ( their animation software )

I want to do two things with video. One, I have VHS tapes which need editing so that I can store the material better, possibly on another medium. Two, I have a Sony digital camcorder and want to download the video to the computer, edit and then put out on VHS or another digital tape.I am not interested in doing 'clever' artwork with the video.I see there are several apparently free programs which would proved enough power to do this. Can anyone recommend which I should go for? Many thanks.

Hi,

I've recently been getting into editing videos, but have only used Windows Movie Maker so far. I'm starting to feel limited by it though, like I want more control over effects, timing of sound, etc etc. I just want more control overall I guess, and access to more professional looking effects.

I'm wondering what software I should buy to upgrade from Windows Movie Maker?

Based on the research I've done so far, the choices are:

Adobe Premiere Elements 7
Corel VideoStudio X2 Pro Ultimate
Cyberlink Power Director Ultra 7
Pinnacle Studio Ultimate v12

Which of these would [H] users recommend?

(and on a side note, I've also noticed some of the professional stuff, like Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and the Apple one, but I'm shocked at how much they cost so won't be getting those lol. Do they really make that much of a difference?)

Answer:What video editing software should I buy?

Edius Neo from Canopus/Grass Valley
It's about $135 or so at some places and there is a free trial at the link I provided above.

Periodically I use my VideoWave to edit digital videos I've taken, but I've never completed a project. I'm thinking of buying Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus - it gets good reviews. Question. Can I continue to edit the video that I started in VideoWave in Pinnacle? Or, does each produce proprietary products. Example: I've got many VideoWave edited clips, but I want to add more clips before producing a final, edited video. Can I combine VideoWave clips with Pinnacle clips to produce a storyline (video)? I hope this is where to post. Thank you for your help. dan

Answer:video Editing - using more than one software

This would be a question for Pinnacle, or unless someone here has experienced using both those programs.

What I have found, is that the way different programs handle edited video is proprietary, and your clips will probably not be able to be viewed in Pinnacle's software. I had similar issues with Adobe Premier, and some ULead software program and especially had a problem with video I made on a Macintosh and tried to use on a PC.

I would say they won't be compatible.

I'm looking for a decent video editing program. I started with Windows Movie Maker and it just didn't have enough options, was terribly simplistic. So I went the other route and got Adobe Encore which is quite the beast, but a little more than I need. What I'm looking for is something with a solid amount of features, that is user friendly, and doesn't require a college course to operate. I tried CyberLink PowerDirector and it's a great program, if it wasn't so buggy. Anyone have any ideas, any video editing programs out there you like?

To keep things short, I have a GoPro, a DSLR, and a phone, all which record HD video. I have all this raw video footage and I'm looking for something simple to make video edits. For example, I use Paint.net to do picture edits as it's simple, easy to use, free, and does most of what I ask. I am looking for something similar but for video that can do a decent job at the following:
Fade in and out
Slow motion (e.g: Footage at 60FPS, Playback at half-speed 30FPS)
Jump cuts
Text and lower thirds
Frame rate change (e.g: Footage at 60FPS, Drop every other frame, Playback at 30FPS)
Backing audio track
Replacing audio
Maybe anchor text to an object in scene
Maybe drawing simple shapes in frame

Is there anything out there? I'm willing to pay money, but I don't really want to spend $1,000 on licensing to do private home video editing.

Well to start with Windows Movie Maker is capable of what you listed and its free. I won't begin to say its in anyway robust, comprehensive, or even stable, but its fine for basic video editing.

So, I have been using avidemux for a long time and love it.  I just got another one, but it's not as good for simple, single file video editing and converting. What I need is a program like avidemux without all the crashing/bugs.  All I need it to do is cut parts of the video out, editing it; choosing which codec to use x264, xvid, etc. Being able to choose the container, AVI mp4 etc.  Being able to choose the quality of the video, CRF 10 CRF 20, etc.  I would like to be able to for example select an AVI file and cut out parts of it, change the quality to decrease file size, and be able to transcode or convert it to mp4 or AVI or etc.
Does anyone know a good one for this? I don't like the super advanced ones for movie-making because they want you to make multiple layers, transition between scenes, etc.  My videos all have one scene, one file....
Thanks in advance if anyone has a suggestion!

Hello all,

I ve been looking for a software that will allow me to parse parts of videos and place them in other videos.

For example, I have The Tow Towers on DVD, and there is a beautiful scenic view that is simply awsome. I want to parse my moving image from a video and place it in the scenic scene. So lets say I have a video of me walking, I want to make it look like im walking in that scenic scene of the Tow Towers. Anyway you get the point.

Do any of you know of any software that is capable of these tasks?

Thanks

Answer:Video Editing Software

Ulead Media Studio can, and I believe Adobe Premiere probably can....the difficult part is going to be achieving it....what it sounds like you want to do is "blue screen"....can be done, but if you have existing video of you, you will have to figure out a way to blue screen that in order to insert it into the other one....

I'm after some easy to use video editing software, but something more comprehensive than Windows Movie Maker - but not as complex as Ulead VideoStudio 8. I'm currently on day 1 of 30 in the Ulead VideoStudio 8 trial, and I find it rather slow and confusing!

Is there anything out there?

Answer:Video Editing Software

I'd been using a combination of Pinnacle Studio 8 and Nero, it worked OK. But Pinnacle wasn't that reliable, if I tried to do some complex work with it, it got 'confused'.

So I've just bought Ulead Video Studio 8. Now, whilst this program seems more solid and reliable than Pinnacle I agree that it is actually quite confusing to learn, I'm still coming to terms with it. I just captured 5 epsisodes of 'Father Ted' from VCR and editing out the ad breaks is actually quite complex, it seems to me.

In ease of use, Pinnacle is so much easier to use, I didn't ever even have to consult the manual, unlike with Ulead's program.

Still, I'm going to stick with the Ulead software, steeper learning curve but it's probably better.

Or I may just re-install Pinnacle again and use both. Perhaps Pinnacle Studio V9.0 is better?

Of course, there's always Adobe Premiere, but that too has a steep learning curve and it's expensive.

I don't know of any other editing programs, but if you head over to the doom9.org website they have a load of freebie video stuff, maybe something there could help you.

Hey all,

I was looking into getting some video editing software beyond the likes of simple programs such as windows movie maker. I would mostly be using this video editing software to edit gaming content I've recorded.

Also along the lines of video editing software, after I'm done recording a video, the file sizes can easily exceed 2gb. Does anyone have any recommendations for video compressing software?

My friend uses Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 for all of his video editing needs but this program is $100 which of course isn't too bad compared to other software but is still pretty expensive for just video game content.

Let me know guys.
Thanks!

Answer:Video Editing Software

Movie Maker is probably the best free editing software. Anything else is mediocre IMO. I like After Effects/Premiere Pro and Sony Vegas but those are very expensive. If you just want compression software, use Handbrake. If you want Video Editing Software, look into Lightworks or VideoDub.

Ulead Video Studio 7 is the easiest for sure. Pinnicle is pretty much does the same thing but I found it a little harder to figure out. Adobe Premiere does more but is much more complicated. Apple's Final Cut is supposed to be the most versatile but it's for a mac only. I've tried all of the above (except final cut) and I got a really nice looking video from Video Studio. Answer:Video editing software

http://www.virtualdub.org/download

VirtualDub helps you get video into your computer.
If your capture device is Video for Windows compatible, then VirtualDub can capture video with it. But VirtualDub isn't your average capture program:

Fractional frame rates. Don't settle for 29 or 30 when you want 29.97.

Optimized disk access for more consistent hard disk usage.

Create AVI2 (OpenDML) files to break the AVI 2GB barrier and multiple files to break the FAT32 4GB limit.

Integrated volume meter and histogram for input level monitoring.

Real-time downsizing, noise reduction, and field swapping.

Verbose monitoring, including compression levels, CPU usage, and free disk space.

Access hidden video formats your capture card may support but not have a setting for, such as 352x480.

Keyboard and mouse shortcuts for faster operation. To capture, just hit F6.

Clean interface layout: caption, menu bar, info panel, status bar.

VirtualDub lets you clean up video on your computer.
There are lots of programs that let you "edit" video. And yet, they're frustratingly complex for some of the simplest tasks. VirtualDub isn't an editor application; it's a pre- and post-processor that works as a valuable companion to one:

Reads and writes AVI2 (OpenDML) and multi-segment AVI clips.

Integrated MPEG-1 and Motion-JPEG decoders.

Remove and replace audio tracks without touching the video.

Extensive video filter set, including blur,... Read more

I had some video editing software but I lost it all in a reformate about a year ago. Can someone tell me the name of one of the best video editing softwares out there but still for an affordable price? I don't plan on doing to much with it execpt for removing parts of .mpg files and merging short edited clips together once I cut out the parts I don't want.

I have what I think should be a simple editing need. However after two days of trying this and scouring the web, I'm still at point one. Which brings me here.

I have a sports skills video and at a certain frame I'd like to stop (pause) the video for about two seconds. During those couple seconds I'd like to place a semi-transparent box over a particular player. After the pause the video will resume as normal and the semi-transparent box will disappear.

I've had success, to an extent, using Flash to edit my flv (adding box on an additional layer), but I can not for the life of me figure out how to pause the embedded video.

Would anyone have any idea how I could easily go about doing this? I am not very skilled with actionscript which is making this difficult to accomplish with Flash. Speaking of which, I am completely open to any editor for any format of video out there. Whatever can get the job done. Oh, and preferably an open source software.

Versions: Flash MX 2004
Windows XP Media Center Editor

Thanks so much in advance for any help with this!

i need to do some video editing for a school project. mostly im going to be taking different video sources and putting them together into one movie, than taking out the sound from the video sources and laying my own sound files over it. i may want to add a couple effects but i dont know much about that. i want to copy the video clips from several sources (divx and dvd movies, possibly vhs through my tv tuner)

what kind of software would i need? i will probebly need a program that will rip videos from my tv tuner or dvds onto my hard drive, and a program that will put all the videos together and let me add whatever special effects i may like. does anyone have any recommendations for programs i could use to do this? i am looking for freeware, but if theres a program thats worth the money and it isnt too expinsive i will consider it.

thanks for the help, if u need any more specifics just let me know.

I am looking for a free/cheap video editing program for Win7. I have used MS MovieMaker on both XP and Vista, and found them adequate... but the Win7 version is horrible - and has zero features/functions included... can someone recommend a decent substitute? I'm not trying to win an Oscar, I just want to edit some family/home videos.
