Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo?

Question: Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo?

Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo? For example, I type "tsanding," and instead of changing it to "standing," it underlines it red. I know I can then right-click it, and select AutoCorrect > standing, so that, from now on, if the same exact typo arises in the future, in which I accidentally type "tsanding," it'll change it to "standing." I've thus far collected *hundreds* of specific typo corrections in this way. But that's very time-consuming, and is only a weak attempt at preventing typos I may be likely to make in the future (based on the fact that I made the exact typo at least once before). Is there any way to establish that I want Microsoft Word to go ahead and correct every single "underlined red" occurrence from now on, based on its best guess as to what I meant? (except in cases where the typo was so bad that it has no guess at all) That way, when it corrects something I *didn't* want corrected, I can then go back and add what I wanted to its dictionary, to tell it not to consider that word an accident from then on.

Preferred Solution: Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo?

Found this in the Word Help files. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options. In the Replace box, type a word or phrase that you often mistype or misspell ? for example, type usualy. In the With box, type the correct spelling of the word ? for example, type usually. Click Add. Is this what you're talking about?

Question: Microsoft Typo

Microsoft made a typo in their WinSAT application, How can we let them know about it?

Answer:Microsoft Typo

Hi Steven,

You can try contacting them by following the link below. Whether or not you will get a response I cannot say. I have managed to locate the error in the 'WinSAT.exe' file (notice the space between the letters), and you can edit it to replace the erroneous 'o' with an 'i', however by doing so you will probably cause it to fail an SFC scan. In my opinion, it is such a minor error that it is probably best left ignored.

So, I'm wondering if it's possible to make a template that will change the font or to change the font/style automatically when I print a Word document.

For instance, most web designers know that Serif fonts look when printed, but sans-serif fonts tend to be easier to read on screen. So, perhaps I like to type in a sans-serif font, but I want to change the document to Times New Roman when I print.

Is there a way to automate this change somehow or is it easier to just go through, select all, change to serif, print, and change back?

I think you may be out of luck. It can be done in html, but Word drops the settings when the file is imported.

I know how to use bullets, but if you tab in the bullets, it will stay tabbed throughout the entire document unless you set up tabbed bullets again. When I try to backspace to go back to left alignment, it will delete the bullet and still stay tabbed. Basically what I am asking is after you do a tabbed bullet, how do you go back to aligning the bullets left again?

Answer:How to make bullets work in Microsoft Word 2007

Try shift-tab instead of Backspace to shift the tab to the left.

I can't explain how it happened, but i had a frozen microsoft word screen.I had to shut it down thru task manager, and when i shut down the computer (windowsxp) i had to turn the power to do so.

when i turned it back on and attempted to open word, a window keeps popping up telling me tht word couldnt recover a document (which wasn't being used anyway) when i click OK, i get a message for another file, and another... hundreds or thousands of them. after seemingly going thru all my doc documents, it has moved on to wbk.

So microsoft word is nonfunctional, and i can't tell if I have lost all my documents.

Help, please!!

With my Windows 7 Home Premium I use Microsoft Word Starter 2010, which came preloaded to my laptop. I save much information in it's standard 'document' page. When I click on a saved document, after about 5 seconds it displays the small window "Microsoft Word Starter 2010" and goes through some process, telling me it is 'starting', 'processing' and takes a further 10 to 20 seconds for the actual document to open. This happens even when opening a blank document. Is there any way that I can speed up the opening of a document.

I've got a document about 41 pages, broke into multiple sections. Track changes have been on, I've been able to edit the file for a while up until an hour. Now, when i make any changes this document just closes, this has been tried and same phenomenon occurs on 3 other computers, so it must be something with the file? Any idea would be appreciated.

Some interesting characteristics:
when change is made word shuts down.
but when you use auto recover and word opens back up, the change that caused word to close is actually made.

Answer:Microsoft Word 2003 closes in error when I make a change with track changes

do you have the remove hidden data feature installed and turned on?
Otherwise, I would suspect a corrupt file - close Word, find and rename or delete it (Word will rebuild it when you open it again).

I didn't know where specifically to post this (and I'm sure it'll show up in the News section tomorrow), but since it's a Windows commercial primarily I'll stick it here in Operating Systems: (requires Silverlight soooo...)

If that video doesn't get the point home about the so-aptly-named "Apple Tax," nothing ever will. The goal of her quest is relatively simple:

With a $1000 budget, find the best laptop for her (and I'm smacking Apple owners here, but she has wants and they need to be in a machine that falls under that $1000 price point). She wants something that fits her, but the primary thing she specifically states is that 17" screen.

Apple? 17" screen? Cheapest price? $2799.00 out the door (the absolute base model, the bottom end of the MacBook Pro line, as quoted at as I made this post, aka the stock machine). Could probably find a less ridiculously expensive machine as a refurb from but but but... that's quite a bit of cash for a laptop, ain't it?

So, in the end she chooses an HP machine at Best Buy. Seems to be an AMD powered machine, can't tell from the first viewing of the video what the graphics might be (EDIT: see below for update).

She got the better deal, by a long shot: a similarly configured machine for $699... $2,000 less and almost the same capabilities (ok, so the Apple has an Nvidia graphics ... Read more

Answer:Microsoft's new ads... guess we're not cool enough to be Mac persons ;)

Ya know, if the extra $2,000 actually got you 2 grande's worth, I would consider it. But with a mac, you get: less software, less games, less hardware. No thanks. I would pay twice as much for a PC with windows than a Mac, if things were somehow reversed, because the PC is a much better value, imo, hands down.

Universal Viewer Lite:
Dizzy and Universal Viewer will only display the documents and don't allow for actual editing, but they should let you print it. There's many other Word type utils in the MajorGeeks section for Office Tools; most are free: You could possibly find a converter that will convert the document from Word format to a different format and that may straighten it out. Then convert it back to Word.... Just some ideas for you. I hope they help Good luck!

While the status bar doesn't hide while scrolling down the Start screen, there's no such option to stop it from hiding on opening certain apps. It's up to the app's developer to decide whether or not to hide the bar. Meanwhile, some apps have inbuilt option to chose to hide or show the bar.

I have created in Microsoft Word 2003 on an XP OS some lengthy documents. I created them using a view setting of 150%.

I sent them to my employer, who is using Windows 98 and Microsoft Word 97. My boss opened them with his system and they displayed on the screen at a view of 200%. He wants me to send him Word documents that he can open from the CD-R that I send that will automatically display at 100% view on the screen so that he does not have to set the view for each document as it displays.

So what is the answer.

Is there a way that I can save my created documents so that when my boss gets them on a CD-R that they will open on his system at a view setting of 100%.

Is there also a way that his system can be set to default to 100% in reading from the CD-R.

My boss does not want to copy the documents to the system hard disk from my sent CD-R, preferring to read and copy directly from the CD-R that I send, so that the original documents will not accidentally be changed.

Answer:Does Vista Microsoft Word Support Old Format Microsoft Word?

I'm assuming you're talking about the new office 2007? meaning word 2007?

If that is the case, then yes it does run older versions of word. In the sense that if you have a word document that was made and saved in Word 2003 it would work in 2007.

Just like when you make something in word 2007 you are able to save it as a Word 03-07 document so it works on both versions of Microsoft Word.

alright my problem is that i have already used microsoft word 2000 for awhile now and its been fine, no problems whatsoever then about week ago it started doing a lot of crazy stuff when i opened it. this happens every single time. i open it and it states that
it is preparing to install microsoft word 2000 (i already have it installed) then it states that it must gather the required information. At first i thought it was an update so i decided to let it continue. when it was finished it said that "the feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not availible. please insert the microsoft word 2000 disk and hit ok" alright the thing was it wasn't an update. and i couldn't find my word CD because it hasn't asked for one ever since i installed it. I then hit cancel and everything went away and about a minute later my microsoft word 2000 came up and it had no updates and was functioning fine but it was going about half the speed it usually does. Other than that there were no other problems and i continued with my work. The only thing that really bugs me is that this entire process takes about 5 minutes every time I start up... so its kinda of a pain... is there any way to get rid of this? thx to all... Peace Out

Next in the W7 update debacle! Updates will be consolidated into packages. So I guess there will be no way to separate "important" updates from the "recommended" updates. I have seen more than one recommended update cause serious problems. Even a couple of the important updates have caused issues, but it is relatively easy to isolate the problem update, uninstall and hide. This will be difficult if multiple updates are combined into packages. Just another attempt by MS to force us into W10. No thank you MS, I'll just turn all updates OFF and deal with any issues that come up. If W7 becomes unusable, then it is time for Linux or Mac.

I installed a new Windows 2003 server to make it a file server.

When some people here work with word documents on the server, the Microsoft Word slows down a lot. You type and then see the letter 5 secs later on the screen. This didn't happen with an old Windows 2000 server we had, neither happens when working with documents on the desktop.
It happens with both Office 2000 & 2003 and it happens with 2 PC with very similar specs (around 1.2 Ghz processor, windows 2000 sp4 and 128 of ram).

Any ideas ? Problem on the server? Perhaps the new switch I used? Low ram to work from the server? Thanks.

The good new is yes...But, first: Verify that the converter is not already installed.

To see a list of installed converters that you can use to save documents, click Save as on the File menu and look at the available choices in the Save as type box.
To see a list of installed converters that you can use to open documents, click Open on the File menu and look at the available choices in the Files of type box.
If Word does not have your file format converter available there is additional good news...

Connect to the internet, Open Word, click on help, type converters and click search, then click Obtain file format converters and then click either one of the hyperlinks microsoft office resource kit or microsoft office.

NOTE: once you have the converter loaded word has a built in Batch Conversion Wizard click on help, search for "file conversion" and click Convert Documents then click convert several docs at once and follow the instructions

After recent full system recovery caused by one or more virus, I am unable to re-install Microsoft Word or Word Perfect on my Compaq Presario, which has Windows XP. Microsoft Word will sometimes start the process but then just stops, giving no indication of what steps to take next or what the problem is. Word Perfect seems to start the process each time but then gets hung up with updating what it describes as the SHFolder.dll. Have waited as long as 20 minutes for this update. The screen does show activity but it just never seems to get done. I cannot take the installation process past that point.

Any suggestions on how I can correct or cure this problem?

Answer:Unable to install either Microsoft Word or Word Perfect

Check here: for some help - probably the .dll is either corrupt or the path not recognized. Depending on whether or not this page helps, either fix it with that or lookup SHFolder.dll. on the net and download a new copy from somewhere like and install it.

Hard to explain but here goes:

When I have a sentence that I want to move to the middle of the page, I place the curser to the left of the word and try to push it right by hitting the space bar and nothing happens.

This is only when the word is all the way to the left of the page.

Is there some type of formatting that would allow this to be free so that I can push words forward??

Here is a strange one. I have Microsoft Word 2000 on a computer running Windows XP SP3. I just began having a problem opening documents directly in Word. The documents will open but they are not right. For example, I have a document that is passworded out. Within Word, the document will open, but it does not ask for a password, and the contents of the document come up scrambled. Here is an excerpt of what it looks like:

This goes on for 20 pages.

However, if I go into Windows Explorer and open the document by double clicking on it there, it correctly asks for the password and opens fine. Weird, no?

I tried opening other documents from Word that do not have passwords. They open, but the documents include a bunch of formatting instructions that usually remain hidden. But from Windows Explorer they open fine. Here is an example:

Document opened with Windows Explorer

EVAN: English form of Welsh Iefan, meaning "God is gracious."

Same document opened from within Word:

Please if anyone have and idea of what is going on??? Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

I recently purchased an ASUS Windows 8.1 64 bit computer.  I transferred my Microsoft Works Version 8.0 word processor and spreadsheet files from my old computer onto the new computer.  I just purchased the Microsoft Office 2013 Home and Student Edition (64 bit version) from an online vendor and installed the software onto my new computer.
I have no problems opening my Works spreadsheet files in Excel.  However, when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get gibberish.  I did some research online and found out that there is a Microsoft tool called Works 6-9 Converter which allows one to open Works files in Word.
I downloaded the Works 6-9 Converter tool from the Microsoft Support website and installed it on my PC.  However, when I subsequently attempted to open a Works word processor file in Word, a dialog box appeared with the error message "Word cannot start the converter Wks9Pxy.cnv" and the file did not open properly (i.e., I got gibberish).
I did a little more research online and found out that uninstalling the Works 6-9 Converter, then downloading and installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package, and finally reinstalling the Works 6-9 Converter may correct this problem.  I followed these steps, but unfortunately when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get the same error message and the file does not open properly. ... Okay helping a friend via long distance phone calls and the random email. This is the only info I have, if someone could shed some light on this and help, we both would appreciate it. Here is the email she was able to send:

"Still messing with that damn trojan. AVG sees it and asks the usual, delete, heal, or move to vault. No matter how many times I choose delete, or heal or even move, it comes back again and again. I'm probably being a bit paranoid here, but is this anything to really worry about?

Answer:Odd URL typo redirect...

Redirects can be something to worry about, as you have no idea what content is being hosted on the re-direct. Most popular anti virus programs, have real-time scanning, where it's constantly scanning your computer, and as soon as you're redirected to a bad website, it will block any content that's harmful to your computer. I use Eset and it does this.

Is there a way to count the number of occurrences of a word in MS Word?

If not, is there a downloadable text editor or something that can do such a thing?

Answer:Counting occurrence of a word in Microsoft Word?

Replace the Word with something like QQQ .. or the the original word .. And it will tell you how many.
Then you can replace it back to what it was ... or just don't save the edited file.
be sure to include the spaces before n after the search word.

I'm really feeling uneasy and stressed about this, any advice?
Why does stuff like this happen whenever your in poor health or any other of life's trials and complications?

Answer:Open DNS typo on router

Two things you might check:
1. In Windows, do your Network Properties have a DNS Server entry(s) that point(s) to your router (probably or close) or do they point to the published OpenDNS IP addresses? Easy check: From an Elevated Command Prompt: ipconfig /all
2. After you corrected the DNS router entries, did you have the router do a cold reboot?
I believe you shouldn't overly stress yourself over this if you didn't make any financial transactions. But new passwords could be needed.

So I was browsing around in Windows Defender (Windows Settings > Update & Security > Windows Defender > Open Windows Defender Security Center > Virus & threat protection > Virus & threat protection settings, then scroll down to Controlled folder access.)

The sentence "Protect your files and folders from unauthorized changed by unfriendly applications" has a typo in it.
(Refer to the attached picture)

? The word "changed" has a typo in it and should be the word "changes" (with an 's' instead of a 'd'), or
? There is at least one missing word in between the words "unauthorized" & "changed"
Somebody should inform Microsoft about this typo.

But Also: I noticed that this is a new option, since the last time I was browsing around in there. What does this option exactly do? It was originally off, but I turned it On. Yet I must say that I have seen a few messages pop up in the right corner of the screen, stating that Windows Defender blocked some programs from making changes. One of them showed explorer.exe from modifying the Favorites folder without me doing anything with Favorites. Exactly what does this option do? Is it kind of like some sort of strict "Firewall"? Because if so, then I like that.

Blocks access to your files and documents by unknown apps (malware/ransomware). It's off by default because not all 'good' apps are in it's 'trusted' list. It takes a bit of fiddling to get all your apps to work after you turn it on.

Memory corruption caused by an unknown driver. Please run memtest and driver verifier.

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

I think this is a virus behavior. Recently whenever I type in microsoft waord or notepad or fill up webforms in IE, the cursor jumps anywhere in the previous sentences, or highlights the last some letters somewhere and the entire type goes haywaire. Now Also this is getting typed anywhere and I have to delete, retype. very painful. I have Norton antivirus 2005, zerospyware (after reading the latest article in your mag only), adware, spybot and zone alarm, all fully updated. and none have been able to pick up a virus/spyware after a thorough system scan. I am going crazy typing, especially when i am prescribing medicines to my patients. I don't want to reload windows and all my applications again.Pl HelpDr Alok Modi MD

Purchased a new laptop and skipped making the MS email but created a password for my account. When I booted up my pc later on I was greeted with an incorrect password message. I must have made a typo in the pw set up because it does not work.I also didnt create a recovery disk because I had literally only used it for 30 mins before turning it off and this problem was the last thing I ever expected to happen. There is only one account and it's the one that is locked. A to rendered a $600 purchase obsolete until I can fix it.All help is appreciated.

I'm just setting up a new computer, and not used to the keyboard. When I was installing the operating system I was asked for a User name. Before I had a chance to do anything it had accepted the name GREU and moved on to the next step. No back button! Bloody i7's, so fast!

I've tried doing a search in regedit for GREU, changed it in one place, but its still showing up all over. Is there a complete fix to this or should I resign myself to being known as Greu for the next few years?

Answer:Typo when entering user name - I'm now Greu!

for your information:

Spyware authors and phishing fraudsters yanked an old scam out of the playbook Wednesday by directing malicious code at Internet users who may be prone to typing or spelling deficiencies, according to security researchers.

Finnish security firm F-Secure said they discovered an attack aimed at Web surfers attempting to land on Google's (Quote, Chart) homepage, but who may have mistyped the Web address.

Internet users who punch in "" are treated to a host malicious code, as the computer gets slammed with a heap of the unwanted software that is automatically downloaded and installed. The malware includes: Trojan droppers, Trojan downloaders, backdoors, a proxy Trojan and a spying Trojan. A few adware-related files are also installed, the firm said.
