Preferred Solution: Sims 2 on Windows XP

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

From Origin (or even without origin, just trying to run the game from my desktop alone), I cannot play the Sims 3 or my only expansion pack, the Sims 3 Pets.
I have two other games installed that work completely fine: Plants vs. Zombies and SimCity.

The error happens just a few seconds after trying to launch either of the Sims games, without even opening the launcher. This is what the error message says:

Sims3LauncherW.exe - Ordinal Not Found

The ordinal 304 could not be located in the dynamic link library iertutil.dll.

Then, after clicking "OK" on the prompt, I get this:

Sims3Launcher has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...

I have had 5 chats with 5 different people from the Origin online help chat, and as suggested I have tried all of the following, all to which none have solved my problem.
Logged out & back into Origin
"Repaired" games from inside Origin
Restarted my laptop
Manually uninstalled Origin, then reinstalled Origin from the Origin website
Uninstalled the Sims 3 Pets and The Sims 3 (not manually, I would need guidance for that), then reinstalled both
Updated AMD drivers
Installed Windows updates
Clean booted my laptop
Please help!

Answer:Solved: Sims 3 & Sims 3 Pets(Origin) - Ordinal 304 Error (Not Found?)

I talked to someone from EA again and was told that the corrupted files are from malware or a virus...

Searching for a fix for my younger sister. She says it crashes when loading occupied or unoccupied lots, or when moving Sims into a lot. I installed the following myself, with no errors: Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Pets, Seasons.

I don't play the game, but she showed me the error. It's a basic dialog box that says something like "This application has crashed. The application will now terminate.". Nice and vague, huh? Well, we programmers call this a handled error, hence nothing in the Windows event log and we can blame EA!

Snooping around, I found a logs directory with application minidumps and some mostly unhelpful logs. Let me know if anyone wants me to zip some dumps and/or full logs. The logs show that the crash has occurred on with different expansions (mainly Pets and Seasons), in different neighborhoods, and on different lots. It's always exception 5... Read more

My game was running fine (no hacks or cheats on), however I'll be making phone calls to improve my relationships and after I've completed the call the sim disappears. I can run out and meet a walk by, say good bye, then call them on the phone then it's gone. The missing sims are still showing up in my list of friends though. And now I'm finding that when he sleeps and it goes into fast speed, it runs slow. Then when he wakes up, it runs ok.

I'm not letting my sim age, but without the cheat. He drinks the elixir of life. I thought it might be his memory log, but it dosen't seem to have an awfull lot in it. I thought about dumping the happy logs, but I've been trying to play it without any cheats on. when this most recently happend again, the sim only had three friends.

I haven't seen it played out too far into this condition, but so far their friendship levals are dropping and they are deleting from the town. Any ideas why and how to fix it?

Hey, im new to this site but...
Every time I try to move a Sim into a house, the music starts to skip and it freezes and/or crashes. It can't be any of my computer specs because I've been running the Sims 2 since the first one came out and the crashes have been occurring recently. Any help or explanation to this problem would be awesome. I've also just found out that it only happens when I try to move a Sim into a downloaded lot. The only site that I download anything from is and as far I know it is a safe site. Again, anyone who can help or tell me what the problem may be, please reply.

I've had the sims 2 game and two expansions, sims 2 pets and nightlife, for about half a year. Everything worked fine until recently I started playing and my sims' skin is all white and covered in codes. Some of the clothes and pets have this problem too. This does not change when I make a new family, change their clothes/appearance, or play a family that came with the game such as the Goths. They've all turned white and coded too. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game and the problem was still there. There are no damages to the discs. I've even tried only installing the Sims 2, in the case that it may be the extensions causing the problem, but with no luck. Any suggestions to my dilemma? Thank you.

I have been considering upgrading my OS to Windows XP, however I am not quite sure if The Sims and The Hot Date Expansion Pack will work with it or not. I have heard that it only runs on Windows 98, but I have also heard that any game that was made for 98 works on XP as well. Could someone tell me if upgrading to XP will allow me to play The Sims? Thanks a bunch!

Howdy, people.

Well, I recently purchases Sims 1 - The Complete Collection used from eBay. Although scratched quite a bit, I entered the serial code and it installed without a hitch.

After it installed, I restarted my computer and I started the game. The silver Sims splash screen came up but it went a "lit" black and then really black, as if my display had turned off.

It is then that i receive the "The Sims has stopped working" error message, and it then attempts to find a resolution which doesn't succeed. Ever.

I tried running the game in 'compatibility mode' but to no avail. I tried it with Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP Service Packs 2 and 3 and even tried it with Windows Vista. Nothing worked.

This error message also seems to alternate with another saying "can't find the Sims data directory" or something like that, but I haven't gotten that error message in a while.

I don't know why I'm having such a hard time getting it to run, I mean I was playing Star Wars: Dark Forces II just fine on my computer and that game predates The Sims by several years.

I have been searching for a solution since Saturday, the day I received the game, but i have not found one.

Here is my system info.

So basically, I have a brand new Windows 8 laptop that lets me play the Sims 2 without any expansion packs.
Here's the fun part, every time I try to install any expansion pack it won't let me. It tells me to insert disk 4 from the original Sims 2 game, to check for updates. As soon as I do this, it looks like it's actually installing, but it stops and says "The update process did not complete successfully. Installation will now terminate." I have never run into this problem before, and I've all ready looked into changing program compatibility. Currently I have the settings on Windows XP (SP3), because that's the only setting that allows me to play the Sims 2 without crashing. Can anyone help me before I decide to downgrade to Windows 7?

Answer:Windows 8 Sims 2 help?

Run the expansion pack in compatibility mode for XP. If that won't work, try running under 7

Hello! I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask for game help but I am currently trying to play Sims 2 on Origin, however after downloading Sims 2 refuses to open. When attempting to open the Sims 2, I get a pop up that says," Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacture. The application will now terminate." My brother and I have tried multiple downloads such as DirectX 9.0c End-User Runtime. What else can we do? We are slowly losing hope in playing our favorite childhood game. My HP Notebook runs windows 10 and DirectX 12. My friend has the same HP Notebook and she is able to run The Sims 3 with ease.

Answer:Help! Sims 2 on Windows 10??

Have you tried running the game with admin rights? Installing the DirectX End User Runtime should fix any DirectX issues. You can run dxdiag to determine if you have DirectX 9.0c available.

Hey I recently just got a laptop which came with windows 8 and I want to install my sims 2 onto it but it won't work.
I installed the Sims 2 base game which said it wasn't compatible but it ended up opening anyway, but none of the expansion or stuff packs will work.

Any ways around this?

Answer:Sims 2 and Windows 8?

Welcome to TSG!

First, I know nothing about windows 8 so these are just ideas.
You can try all the patches and compatibility mode. I had to patch the base game to run in Windows 7.
I don't have the expansions but maybe you can try running in XP or Vista mode.

I have recently installed Windows 10 and now my Sims 1 game won't work. I installed it on my laptop when I had Windows 8.1, and it worked fine. I can go into "This PC" and play the game from the disc drive, when I do this it gives me an initial screen but when I click play nothing happens.

Is there any way to fix this, ideally without losing my save games?

Have you tried running it in compatibility mode? right click the shortcut, click properties, and under the compatibility tab check the "run this program in compatibility more for" and choose the latest version it worked on (Windows 8 should work as you said it was fine in there.)

An installation for DirectX 9.0 came on the disc, which I installed but hasn't helped. Do I need to install a driver? If so, which one and where from? What else could I do? Thanks in advance. (Sorry if someone else has posted about this).

I’ve installed the (very) old Sims 2 pc game but it doesn’t start. I have read a lot of possible solutions but nothing worked. Normally I played it on an old pc witch doesn’t match the system requirement but i works. Half a year ago I bought a new laptop and installed it. It worked for an hour or so and then i quit. After that it never worked again. At the moment i start is it gives the start screen. If you press play it should start but after a minute or so the laptop freezes completely. Here are my system specs:
2.1 ghz Intel i3 processor
50 GB free hard disk
NVidia GeForce gt MX 520 graphic cart (newest driver(v. 296.1))
Windows 7 home edition.
I’ve already reinstalled it, deleted the group. Cache and used different compabilities.
If there’s anything more you want to now please post it.

My old PC had Windows XP on it. I backed up my Sims 2 files on that. Now I am trying to restore that backup onto a different PC which is running Windows 7. I have managed to install the game, with help from my husband who is much more PC literate than me, but when it comes to restoring my old backup we have both failed!
I have tried copying the backup folder across to the EA Games folder but when I then try to run the game I just get an error message and it won't play at all!
I have uninstalled it twice now and am losing patience and thinking I will just have to start again from scratch.
Can anyone out there help me please?
Simple instructions if any as I'm not great at this!

I really don't understand the mechanical workings of a computer but I have found out from a website called "Can You Run It?" that my current graphics card is not suitable for The Sims 3. Probably why it's running like a dog and almost unplayable.

Currently have GeForce FX 5700LE (probably not to original bought with the Dell Dimension 8300) as I think my husband stripped this out of his old machine to upgrade my generic one in the hope of getting The Sims 3 to work better.

I would also like to upgrade to Windows 7 and this card is not listed as compatible. Also the memory requirements for The Sims 3 under Vista are 1.5GB (can't find details of The Sims 3 under WIndows 7) so as I also only have 1.5GB RAM at the moment and am thinking about upgrading that too.

I don't really have more than £200 to do any necessary upgrades but would like to get another couple of years out of my old DD 8300.

I could buy 4 x 1GB RAM and replace all the existing or 2 x 1GB RAM and replace 0.5GB of the existing giving me 3GB.

I have not got a clue about graphics card so any advice would be good. Not looking for anything amazing - would just like The Sims 3 to run well!

Answer:Sims 3 won't run and would like to upgrade to Windows 7

1.5gb of Ram when using vista isn't enough to run the game because Vista uses alot more memory just to run the operating system, i would use atleast 2gb even if you upgrade to windows 7 becasue it will just run alot smoother in general. Your old graphips chip should handle sims fine if it is capatiple with the game.

I'm having a problem running The Sims Complete Collection on my Windows 7 OS on my laptop. I'm able to download the game successfully, but when I run it my screen turns black and crashes to the desktop after a few seconds. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the game and running it as administrator, and also running it under compatibility mode for Windows XP and 95.

The strange thing to me is that my computer will run 'The Sims Creator' that came with my game, but not the main game itself. Is there anything else I can try or do to get this to work on my Windows 7 OS?

Recently my computer Arcee has been having some problems and she just shut down and has pretty much refused to come back. Whenever I boot Arcee up I am unable to get to my login screen or anything. I've had Arcee since 2004 and is a Windows XP PC. She ran Sims 2 like a charm. So I recently got this new computer off of craiglist. IT IS BEING EVIL! It's a Compaq laptop with Windows 7, I cannot install Seasons or even get into the sims. I think my head is going to explode. I miss my sims....what should I do?

I have a few questions about securom on the Sims 2, I decided to get into playing the Sims 2, and got the Double deluxe (with nightlife and celebration stuff), University Life, Best of Business, Fun with Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Freetime, Apartment Life, Glamour Life Stuff, and Happy Holiday Stuff. I am aware that a few if all of those have Securom on them, I've also heard many horrible stories involving securom messing with disc drives, crashing the computer, tampering with things like anti-virus software, and other problems that some have said ultimately kill a pc, I need to know, Will Securom do any of this, as I've seen numerous posts across various forums, even about the problems people has had from Securom, it's about worried me sick >.< . I'm concerned it may tamper with my anti-virus software, and other softwares, as I run AVG anti-virus, various emulators for old consoles, a number of pc games, and I'm also wondering if Sims 2 will work properly on my pc. I run Windows 7 home premium 32-bit with a NVIDIA GeForce 210 graphics card, 2.66GHz quad-processing with 4GB of RAM. On a side note, I did install The Sims2 Double Deluxe, and while the disc was in my disc drive, on My Computer it was saying I had 2 drives, one with something that started on the lines of "BDdrive" or something (which is only present when the disc is in), and that I also had removed Securom through use of a removal tool/regedit for fear of it cau... Can anyone please help? I'm afraid to play/install the sims2 if Securom does what I've heard it does about messing with various things on the pc, does it cause any form of a problem on computers? I've heard across various forums of how it can even cause computers to crash, even needing to reformat on some cases.

I have recently bought a new Benq computer with Windows Vista, and my previous computer was with Windows XP. Originally my The Sims discs worked fine with the computer, and a few days ago I tried the discs in my computer, and everything worked fine. I was starting to renovate a house, when I realised that there were no people waiting outside. Once I had completed the house, no little previews of my family's faces popped up and a few seconds later a message popped up on the screen stating something along the lines of "It seems your users 007 and 008 have not been found on your source. Please check your discs and try again". I tried again and nothing worked.
I asked some staff at a games shop called Game, and they said they hadn't heard of it before, but seemed to know that it had something to do with swapping from Windows XP to Windows Vista. Now I was about to buy some Sims 2 games for the first time, and the staff at Game gave me a list of system requirements I needed to have and for Windows I need either a 98/200/Me/XP and I have none of them! Please help me work out these two problems...................
Thankyou a lot

What you need to remember is that The Sims 2 was released BEFORE Vista was out, so it's logical to assume that the packaging will not mention it. Most games that work on XP will work on Vista, but it help to confirm compatibility first.

Ive just tried installing The sims complete collection on windows 7 (the disc edition), prior to installation I have disabled windows UAC, and run the sims exe as both admin and in compat mode with xp sp2.

The installation runs fine and everything appears ok, but when I try to run the game I immeditaly get the message "program has stopped working", I have tried running the game in every different compatabiltity mode, and as an administratior and I still get the same messgae, when I try testing for compability It tells me fatal error "Sims data directory not found"

I have a good level of computing knowlegde and before you ask my computer more than meets the specs, i have done hours of searching for a solution online but have had no success finding an answer, to be honest i am absoutely baffeled as to how to get the game working. According to windows the game is compatabilte with both 32 and 62 bit operating systems. Anyone got an idea what is wrong?

I just got Sims 2 Ultimate Collection from Origin Support, but it won't run at all on my computer. It's a windows 8.1 with graphics card AMD Radeon HD 8210. Support stressed that it doesn't run because it's not compatible, but I've always been able to play Sims 2 on this computer. Here are the things I've already done:

- Run as administrator in both Windows 7 and WindowsXP Package 3 mode
- Removed the "TM" from the display name in the registry editor
- reinstalled it from Origin
- Tried to run it out of Origin's App
- download a new paul.dll file from the support site
- Run Origin App in Windows 7 Compatibility mode

I just reinstalled the game last night and nothing's changed. It won't launch at all or give me an error message of any kind. Support says they have no intentions of updating it to make it compatible with Windows 8-10 either. Is there anything I can do?

I have a problem with my game where the windows in all of the houses don't let in any light. It seems stupid but it really makes the game hard to play seeing as it's completely dark and i can't really see my sims, etc. I had reinstalled windows on my computer and reinstalled the game and everything a week ago, and since then I've had this problem, but I didn't have it before. I did manually install a driver for my graphics card, meaning I looked for the driver online since I didn't have it on CD anymore. I found a driver for it and installed it, so I'm guessing that the problem could be with that driver, but I still don't know how to fix it. My game doesn't have any other problems though.

I recently purchased the sims 2 double deluxe for my dell inspiron 1525 laptop which has windows vista home basic on it and the game doesnt seem to be working. It freezes whenever I try to create a new family, play a family or go into town. The computer says the program isnt responding. So far I have emailed EA twice and they said to update my drivers, which I did. I have run it in combatability mode and as an administrator. There are no background programs up while I run the game either. Any ideas?

I decided to try Sims 3 because it?s free to Origin access members. Unfortunately, my computer is one of the many out there that, despite having a powerful enough computer, cannot run Sims 3 without it crashing. (I even got past the Sims creation screen and was working on my house when it crashed.) Having done enough research on the internet about how to deal with Sims 3 crashing, I came to the conclusion that there is no easy answer as to how to keep your computer from crashing while playing Sims 3. Instead, I?m considering trying Sims 4.

Before I do, considering how notorious Sims 3 has become for not working on certain computers or with newer hardware, how does Sims 4 compare? Obviously, it?s newer and should work with newer hardware. However, I?ve played older games on my computer before and they haven?t had nearly the same problems that Sims 3 had. As such, does anyone know if Sims 4 has any of it?s own querks, like glitching, crashing, game freezing, and other anomalies that are impossible to solve?

Okay so I've recently built a new computer and have been trying for the past 3 days to successfully install and play the sims 2.

Installation is fine, it goes through everything perfectly, loading up the game is nice and fast too. But when I get into a lot in the game to actually start playing the screen starts going berserk. It all seems to emulate from the sims themselves, they'll flash in and out and huge beams of colour shoot out from is rather disturbing to watch. They go about their normal activities but these huge things follow them everywhere, even if you scroll out the beams are just endless.

It was hard to get a screenshot of the problem because it jitters around so much. It all flickers off and on.
Okay so to fix the problem so far I've removed my downloads folder, to make sure it wasn't anything to do with the cc I've installed. They didn't fix the problem which I didn't think it would anyway I was just trying to go through everything. I tried some other things too but nothing worked.
I eventually uninstalled ALL the games and expansions and then reinstalled just the base game, after I installed that a message popped up and said 'Sims 2 has known compatibility issues with Windows 7' so I installed the patch from the Sims 2 website and loaded it up and it worked I didn't get any weird ... Hi all,
I have a problem with running the Sims Unleashed expansion pack. I have installed The Sims and it is working fine. Then i installed the Unleashed expansion pack, it works fine where I installed it but it doesn't work in the other pc. I don't have administrator privileges in my pc so what we do is we just copy and paste the files of The Sims. when we copied The Sims only, it works fine even in the other pc but once we copied the files with the Unleashed expansion pack, it pops this error: "It has come to our attention that you installed another Sims expansion pack after The Sims Unleashed. For this to work properly, The Sims Unleashed installer will now update your installation. Select OK to proceed." I clicked OK but it doesn't do anything. I also searched all the threads but it didn't solve the problem. I have also used the SimsEraser but with no avail. I'm also aware that there is an order of installation i.e. Livin' Large first, then Hot Date, etc. I only installed The Sims and Sims Unleashed. My OS is Windows XP. Thanks for any help.

Hallo allemaal even een vraagje hier. Alvast bedankt!

Ok, so I just got The Sims (a little behind I know.) However, I have Windows XP, so apparently that does not work. Whenever I try to install The Sims, I get this message:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Mircrosoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
I went to TheSims website and found that The Sims is only compatible with Windows 95 or 98. So, I researched how to remedy this problem. I was directed to HotFix 329623. However, when I tried downloading said that it was only compatible with Windows Service Pack 1, and not SP 2 which I have unfortunately downloaded.

Any help with making The Sims compatible to my computer or vice versa?

Answer:Sims/hotfix/Windows XP/Service Pack 2...why is this so difficult?!?!

well I don't know if you did mean the sims , or if you meant the sims 2.

But either one should work on XP, The Sims 2 does for sure, and I ran the sims 1 on my Windows ME , so ..

to get rid of service pack 2, go to start - settings - control panel - add/remove programs, then click on service pack 2

hope that helps a bit

I have the Sims Double Deluxe (old, i know.) It was working fine for a few weeks but now it's not.

I put in the CD and start it, and it loads.. then suddenly stops, and returns me back to my windows desktop. I troubleshooted.

Closed down background programs, my drivers are updated.. etc. its all good

however it asks me to: adjust the Color palette option to 256 colors and the Desktop area to 640 by 480 pixels. If your driver lets you alter the viewport size separately, sometimes referred to as "virtual desktop", make sure it is also set to 640x480 or you may encounter problems.

I can't do that for some reason. I think my monitor is different.

But i've used the Sims successfully before, now all of a sudden it wont. Help!

Hello Windows 8 forum,

I?m Ahmad & I am using Windows 8.1 professional update 01 on a laptop. Ever since, I switched from Windows 7 ultimate ? freshly installed; I?m unable to run quite a number of games. Good numbers of games worked but FIFA 14 & SIMS 4 [as far to my knowledge] are unable to run. Whenever I double click the game icon, it says ?FIFA14/SIMS4 has stopped working?.

I searched over the web & found some help. What I did so far is,

1. Installed a fresh OS ? Windows 8.1 professional x64.
2. Installed .NET FX 3.5 & .Net 4.5.1; latest versions.
3. Installed all critical and non-critical updates till 25/10/2014.
4. Updated all drivers to their latest version, especially graphics driver twice times.
5. Installed DirectX 11 complete of about 550MB.
6. Installed Visual Studio 2013 x86 & x64 redistributables.
7. Installed FIFA 14/SIMS 4 3x times; repaired as well as clean installed.
8. Tried in Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista SP2, Windows XP SP3 compatibility modes.
9. Tried to run those games with or without administrator rights.
10. Cleaned all 3rd party services, which may disturb the game.
11. Blocked/unblocked access through defender firewall & Norton firewall.
12. Ran this command as administrator. ?bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff? on an administrator command prompt.

So ive been going through a nostalgic wave lately and wanted to play the Original Sims on my Windows 7 Laptop after not having touched it in so many years. Unfortunately I cant get it up and running. It goes past the loading screen, freezes on a black screen for a few seconds, then crashes back to the desktop. I sometimes get this error message:

Game cannot be started because:
DirectX 7, or Service Pack 3 for NT4, is required. It could not be located.

Im baffled because Ive managed to get games that are just as old The Sims to work fine. It's like my laptop doesnt want have anything to do with this game whatsoever.

So far after doing some searching, I found that a windows update called KB3086255 was giving other people problems. I uninstalled the update that I found I had, but all it succeed in doing is getting past the loading screen before it crashes. I also tried messing around with the compatibility tab under properties such as running this as program as an administrator, running it in Windows XP (even Windows 98), disabling visual themes, etc and none of those work. Im really stumped. Can anyone else help me?

Hi all,

I just purchased and installed the sims 3 and started have issues with my pc crashing. The first thing I did was update my video driver. That seemed to fix the problem....until it happened 30 minutes later. I am not sure where else to turn, I have never had a issue like this that I could not fix myself. I also have the .dmp files from both crashes. Let me know what else you might need to help me get to the bottom of this. THANKS!

Answer:Blue Screen crashes windows after installing sims 3

Hi -

Did you copy/ paste all of the dump info in? The date on the dump from crash #2 = November 2008, yet I see SP2 installed. These 2 do not match.

Here is a brief summary and info on the crashes -

Crash #1
bugcheck - 0x24 = NTFS file system problem
OS = Vista SP2

Crash #2
bugcheck = 0x10e (0x2, 0x1, 0x0, 0x0) = the video memory manager was unable
to recover from a problem it encountered
OS = SP2

This will become a problem for you in the near future - only 3.1% free space remaining on your OS drive -

Drive: C:
Free Space: 4.5 GB
Total Space: 143.1 GB
The first thing to do is to perform a Vista system restore - choose a restore point prior to the failed Sims install -
START | rstrui

Then run chkdsk /r - then select option to reboot to allow volume to dismount. chkdsk will run on next boot-up

Follow these 2 procedures -

1. Run the Vista Cleaning Manager Utility - from an elevated cmd/DOS prompt -
type cleanmgr tuneup - Check the following boxes:

- Temp Setup Files
- Downloaded Program Files
- Temp Internet Files
- Recycle Bin
- System error memory dump files (NOT the next line - minidump files)
- Temp Files
- Temp Windows Installation Files
2. Defrag the hard drive - use a product like Auslogics

Let me know how you make out.

Hello every1, I am having problems with the sims 2 I have yesterday installed the sims 2 with all 18 expansion packs on to it I have a Windows 7 pc it is a Dell Inspiron it has i5 core processer I have started playing the sims 2 and I have noticed that even though it works I can not do some things such as when I went into boolProp and tried to have my Sim abducted by aliens it did not work and also tried to get my sim to order a service that did not work also.

I have searched on google already and there is some reported compatibility problems with the sims 2, I tried to run it in windows XP compatibility mode like suggested but that did not work so I got windows to try and find a answer to the problem but it said the sims 2 launcher is out of date, has any body got a straightforward answer to how I can get the sims 2 working perfect on my laptop? Thanks, Jake

What do you meant by going to boolProp and are you using this to get your Sim to order something?

I installed the windows version of The Sims 2 which i used to play on pc on my macbook using the boot camp (letting me run two operating systems)

I managed to install it and my macbook can handle the graphics and such, whilst that was the complicated part now when i play it if i try to delete something, for example a wall using the standard "ctrl" it automatically becomes the mac's right click and the camera icon comes up instead.

Is there any way to change the ctrl key to a different key or to turn off the macbook's ctrl= right click function? i have searched around but i cannot find anyone else experiencing the same problem.

I'm running the latest Mac Operating system OSX and on the windows boot thing Windows XP Professional.

Answer:Sims 2 windows version (running on mac through boot camp) keyboard issue

First of all, I love your name.
secondly did you try checking the sticky thread titled "common sims problems" at the top of the forum? I haven't read it through b/c I don't play the Sims but your problem MAY be in there. If so check to see if the game lets you change the controls in the menus. If not, ask a mod to move this to the Mac OS forum since it sounds like you want to modify the OS not the game.

I have a new pc, recently built about 2 weeks ago, and was working fine with everything to anything until I decided to installs the Sims 3, I'll let you know that this first time this problem happened yesterday I formatted my pc and tried it again and have the same results. Heres the details:

I installed Sims 3 everything fine, then I loaded the game up and on the loading the screen (before choosing the town or load game, to those familiar with the game) and the game froze on the loading, the cursor was still moving and could move it around the screen, but I could not alt f4 or ctrl alt del out of it so I decided to just restart via reset button. THe problems started after this, I loaded up pc again but it was stuck on the Windows XP loading / boot up screen, the loading bar moves but it stay on there continously like in a loop. So i booted in safe mode and it worked, tried the chkdsk in command prompt and restarted.....but it won't do chkdsk and i tried it via the c drive >properties> tools etc and restarted and still won't do it. So like i said i formatted it last time and loaded everything up everything was fine, and now its done it again and I don't want to format, but now it's not even letting me into safe mode normal, with networking or with command prompt, and it is very frustrating and I find it hard to believe a freeze on the sims 3 would cause such damage to my pc, so any help would be grateful.

I would like to say I have ... Read more

You can only install Desktop software in a Desktop environment.
?One alternative is to install an Android emulator like BlueStacks, but it may lag and cause other performance issues due to limited tablet hardware.

So, I installed The Sims Complete Collection, but I decided that I really wouldn't use it as much as I thought, so I decided to uninstall it. After doing so, little error messages pop up every 2-10 seconds on my computer, one after another, and if I leave my computer to go to the bathroom or something, there will be a whole slew of them, one on top of another that I have to exit. They say: "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\wmrutrim.dll" and under that, "Access is denied." To the left of the words is s red circle with a white x in the center and on my taskbar the window is labeled "RUNDLL".

I did some research and found that some file was probably deleted when I uninstalled the game, but I looked on a bunch of "dll" file download sites and couldn't find my error.

Some sites also said to reinstall the program that caused the problem, but the Sims Complete Collection is 4 disks and takes hours to install. I also don't want it on my computer.

I also tried restoring my computer with the system restore disk that came with it, but it didn't restore, even though I have done it before and followed the procedure outlined on the disk exactly.

The message comes up so often that I cannot do anything else without being constantly interrupted (i.e. while typing this at least 15 have popped up already and I have to constantly exit them and come back to this).

Please help! I tried to use the Sims help forum but something went wrong and ... Read more

I have been playing SIMS, with expansion Pak Super Star.  Really we have them all.  BUT--my Superstar now has 4 1/2 stars and when she comes home she cannot sit down, go to bed, sit on any furniture, or use the toilet.  She shows a "wall" bubble over her head.  I have moved the furniture in queston, I have bought new furniture, everyone else in the house can use the furniture, go to bed, and anything they want.  She CAN function in "Vaction" town, but not at homeHELPKaren

Question: The Sims 2

Im having problems with my new game "The Sims 2" when I build a house everything is fine but when I place windows in the rooms and lights no matter how many I place the room doesn't brighten up!! Is anyone else having these problems!!??

Please help THANK YOU XxX

Answer:The Sims 2

Maxis games, my specialty.

OK, how big is the room? If the room is humongous, no matter how many windows u put, its not gonna work. Plus with the new 3d engine, its hard to make the room right with the correct number of windows. Keep trying different possibilities.

SO to answer your second question, yes, Im sure many of us are facing the same problem. (I did )

Ok, my problem is that I bought the DVD edition of the Sims 2, I figured it was the same price, both of my comps have DVD drives so what the hey. So, I get home and I put the Game Disk (the other disc just has movies and stuff on it) in my HL -DT -ST RW/DVD GCC-4481 DVD/CD-RW combo drive, the game starts to run, but here's where the problem arises, the autorun.exe is messed up. I even check to see if in runs by hitting ctrl-alt-delete and hitting the processes tab, autorun.exe appears for a few seconds, but then mysteriously disappears . The werid part is my old computer can run the autorun.exe perfectly ! Any help on this will be really nice, thanks MS_Paint.

Question: The Sims?

I have the sims deluxe edition game and have lost the cover. So is there any way of getting the activation code without having to buy another?

Answer:The Sims?

Did you register The Sims game on the EA website, if you did then the key is in your profile, or this is a key finder from one of the Sims user groups NOTE: it does not generate keys at all so you will need to have Sims already installed as it aids you searching your registry for any installed Sims keys, if you dont have Sims installed then your best bet is to try EA support.

This is from a post from one of the Sim clubs I belong to.....

"...Ok, I think someone else could probably give more info on this than
me, but if you look in your object folder, you'll see a .far file.
The thing that I was talking about is, you can save all of the
objects you've downloaded into a .far file and I guess it compresses
the files so they don't take so long to load. Somewhere out there
is a website with a utility for doing this. I tried to find the
message where I got this info, but unfortunately I deleted it

Me Here,
I have the FAR EXTRACTOR,but I don't think it's the same thing as this person is talking about.

I need a program that will compress my game items so the game will load faster.

Can you help me with this? Thanks for reading.

Question: Sims help!

i have had the sims double deluxe (without the house party installed cos i cant find the code) and have the sims hot date, on holiday and unleashed installed aswell and it was working fine, then i got bought another copy of house party and after i installed this and completed the installation with unleashed it doesnt work, it loads up the into video and all the other info then as soon as it gets to the map it closes itself. i tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but still not working. i even borrowed another version of the sims to check if it was any of my discs but its still doing the same thing. it doesnt show any error messages. does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Sims help!

This is probably becuase you installed House Party AFTER the more recent expansion packs. You see, there is a special order that you MUST install them in if you want this to work. Here is the order: The Sims (original version)/Deluxe Edition, Livin' Large, House Party, Hot Date, Vacation, Unleashed, Superstar, Makin' Magic. I know you don't have some of these expansion packs, but that is the order that they all need. If you don't have one of the packs, just skip over it and go to the next one that you have. Sadly, the only way to fix the issue you have to to uninstall the game, and install the packs as I listed above. If you want to keep your families, I suggest teleporting them to the Sims website. You can download them once you get reinstalled. If you have any further questions, let me know  Flame

Question: Sims 2

My question is about the Sim 2 but I guess it goes for all the Sims games.  Is it possible to make it load any quicker?  It always takes forever saying "Loading blah blah".  Are there special files or something that I can extract from the CD that would make it take less time to load?

Answer:Sims 2

That depends mostly on your amount of RAM, Processor speed, and the amount of video card memory you have installed... Otherwise, no.[glb]Flame[/glb]

My husband installed the Win 7 beta 7100. I have tried to install all my Sims 2 games and expansion packs but I am having a problem. Only the general game and 1 expansion pack will install, the other ones will not even load when I put them in the drive so I can't finish installing. Nothing happens at all. The basic game will run and play with out a problem but I would really like to install the rest of the expansion packs. Can someone please help me?

P.S I'm not very computer savvy so please give detail explanations and directions. Thanks so much!

Answer:Sims 2 and Win 7 need help!

Please keep in mind that Windows 7 has not been released yet and it is entirely possible that some of your expansion packs simply don't work in Windows 7. I had problems with that game on earlier builds of Windows 7 also.
