Question: Problems of slow computer worse after Malwarebyte scan!

Yesterday my computer was running very slowly and taking forever or never getting to the sites I wanted, especially clicking on a google search title. I did a scan with Malwarebytes free version (updated) and it showed 20 PUP optional.b infections. I immediately clicked to remove them and restarted my computer. Upon restarting I was horrified to find that when I clicked on Internet Explorer it would not connect me to any of my usual sites such as Outlook, Google, Facebook, my bank NOTHING! So I went back to the scan results and restored everything that I had checked to remove on the Oct 22 11:29 scan. Then Internet Explorer worked again and I could get to where I needed to go. Then I did another scan resulting in the PUP opt.b infections; this time I removed the ones that were in memory, registry value or registry key, removing only the ones that were located in files or folders. Again restarted and sure enough no Internet Explorer again! So I restored all of the PUP infections again and here I am today. Computer is still painfully slow and I have just left all of the PUP infections where they are. I should mention that my computer absolutely will not let me connect to bleeping computer.com or anything that is associated with it. The Malwarebytes forum told me to download DDS or DDS.com and no way will my computer allow me to do that because they are associated with Bleeping Computer.I need help in clear uncomplicated steps because I'm no expert! Hope you can help me!

Preferred Solution: Problems of slow computer worse after Malwarebyte scan!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I run Windows XP.

I use Malwarebytes and Avast.

Just last night the following issues have started to occur.

1) Random Pop-Up Ads in Internet Explorer windows

2) Random sounds (that sound like commercials/ads) will occur randomly

3) Firefox (my primary browser) runs slower and on some pages it will just hang at "loading"

4) When I search google and click on a search result, I sometimes get redirected to a "StopZilla" page.

5) When I open firefox, this error comes up each time: You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item (error code, C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\deploy\jqs\ff\...\bin\jsqnotify.exe)

6) When I try to run a scan with Malwarebytes, within 3-5 minutes my whole computer freezes. (and Avast picks up nothing after a full scan)

What can I do and where can I start to get my computer running smooth and error free again?

Answer:Pop-up ads, slow browser, freezing malwarebyte, and more problems.

Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.zip) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to print out and follow all instructions for performing a scan or refer to these instructions with screenshots.Extract (unzip) the file to your desktop and make sure TDSSKiller.exe (the contents of the zipped file) is on the Desktop itself, not within a folder on the Desktop. Vista/Windows 7 users refer to these instructions if you're unsure how to unzip a file.If you don't have an extracting program, you can download TDSSKiller.exe and use that instead.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. When the program opens, click the Start Scan button.
Do not use the computer during the scanIf the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.Any objects found, will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options. If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure...do not change it.
Click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.<- Important!!
If 'Suspicious' objects are detected, you will be given the option to Skip or Quarantine. Skip will be the default selection. Leave it as such for now.A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).Copy and paste the contents of tha... Read more

My computer is starting up very slowly and basically hangs. When i click something it takes about two minutes to respond. I had some fishy items showing up on startup but i stopped them and it was working ok for a few hours. Now it slowed down again and msconfig is freezing. Tried running spybot in safe mode and it froze too. I'm having to type this from our tablet it's so bad. So I'm trying to figure out if we're hit with a virus or if there is a problem with one of the drives. Any ideas? Thank you so much for any help. A little more detail: I run windows 7 and have webroot for my antivirus. I tried shutting down all the starting programs in safe mode and restarting but it didn't help. I'm running a disk scan to see if it helps. I also tried running "security scan" but the program froze. When i start the computer, it runs ok for about one or two minutes then any open windows stop responding. I think i might have it figured out but i can't figure out how to delete this thread. Thank you!Mod Edit:  Merged 3 posts, merged topic posted in Win 7 - Hamluis.

Answer:Computer extremely slow and msconfig, malwarebyte, etc freezes

I have a laptop with Windows 7 untimate. My computer was slowing and/or freezing really bad-- wasn't sure if it was some kind of malware or a problem with the computer itself. I did some work on it, and while it has stopped freezing, I am getting error messages in system restore and uninstaller so it looks like Windows has been affected. Here are the details.
-Computer would freeze after being on for a minute or two. Any open windows would work fine and then suddenly stop responding and I'd be forced to restart. (Even CNTRL ALT DELETE took several minutes to load).
-Ran troubleshooter through Windows and it said there were problems with the program in startup. I unchecked one that said (default) and one that said hpwuSchd application, both of which CNET said could be from trojans. Computer worked ok. No problems found by Webroot. However Malwarebytes would freeze while running.
-Computer worked fine for a few hours, but started to freeze again after sitting overnight. MSconfig kept freezing, Malwarebytes, SpyBot all would freeze a few minutes into running. Tried to download and run "Security Check." which also froze.
-Ran dskchk/r which said it fixed one file. Ran rkill and then was able to run Spybot and Malware but they didn't find any programs. Ran CCleaner to delete temporary files, etc.
-Computer appeared to be working ok, so i tried to create a restore point in case I run into more problems and got this message. "There was an unexpected error in the property page. The v... Read more

A few days ago, my computer suddenly slower when browsing internet, so I check the tasks manager and found that my cpu performance always hit the peak although I used the same applications which I always use. So, I used Malwarebyte's Antimalware and detected a worm called Worm.Autorun which then I already eliminated it. However, it doesn't seem better, and I think that I may get virus, worm, or trojan from my friend's usb drive which my anti-virus Panda couldn't find. So, I created the accout here and really need some help from specialist. Another problem is I can't save the GMER log. When I run GMER, it took about 6 and 12 hours to run, and then when I tried to save the log, it got "Not respond" for a few hours (as I waited) and then blue screen appeared. Hello. I had a TDL4 rootkit infection a couple weeks ago, got help here, and was pronounced clean. (Windows XP)

Some minor problems remained afterward. The Turn Off Computer menu would take minutes to appear. Clicking print takes about 30 seconds or so for options to show. Oh, and if I click Automatic Updates from System in the control panel, that takes like ten minutes for the screen to show up (and only that specific screen).

The infection slowed down my system into PIO mode before. I was scanning with Malwarebytes every day after getting clean, to make sure the virus wasn't returning. The computer wouldn't slow down again after the first few scans, but now it does, which is just like how things began before (EVERYTHING gets real, real slow, not just the three things I listed above-- and the slowdown actually begins DURING the scan). But this time Malwarebytes isn't detecting anything.

For the most part. One scan revealed an old file had returned (atl32.dll) that I had removed before getting help. But after that find, the scans have all been clean. I'm pretty sure the slowdown didn't take effect after finding that malicious file again either.
I had read on another site how to get your computer out of PIO mode, by uninstalling the primary IDE channel drivers and rebooting, letting the computer reinstall them. That's worked great. Speed is restored after a virus scan, AND -- suddenly the turn off computer menu, print screen, and automa... Read more

Answer:Malwarebyte freezes my Pc after scan?

Issue Finaly Resolve

The problem was with Panda Global Protection 2010 (Anti-virus). It wasn't allowing Malwarebytes so I had to do these five easy steps:

1. Open Panda Global Protection
2. Click Firewall
3. Under the tab Rules that says: Specify which program to access the internet (or network), click "setting".
4. Now, everywere you see the word "Malwarebytes" in the list, you will have to click - Allow inbound & outbound connections.
5. Click Ok and you're done.

I hope it can help someone. Thanks guys.

After updating MalwareBytes Database, I did a quick scan today. It identified one malicious item as follows.

Registry Keys Detected: 1
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\itunes.exe (Security.Hijack) -> No action taken.

Of course I ignored it but why is an iTunes Registry entry being identified as a malicious item? I have been using my iTunes for ever but MalwareBytes had never identified this entry as malicious earlier.

Could someone please give me an answer.

Answer:MalwareByte Scan Report

IFEO's, which is what this is, aren't always bad. In fact what triggered this is fairly commonplace in both good and bad apps.

In this particular case if itunes is working properly I wouldn't be too worried about it.

When I booted up my computer this morning, Windows loaded, I signed in, and then it took nearly an hour and a half to get the program icons to come up on the desktop. When I try to open one, it can take upwards of 20 minutes to do so, then response within the program is no better. It seems like all the resources are under use, but no one can see what's bogging it down. Can you look at the attached HiJackThis log and let me know if you can see the problem.

I ran Malwarebytes Pro, quarantined items/deleted and restarted several times (including in safe mode) but the pups come back. I have a screen shot but cannot paste or insert it here. I think it has something to do with security settings so cannot access my clipboard. Anyhow, I pasted the Application Log below and typed out the detected item and one location below - there are 143 of these.  Hopefully someone can guide me on how to get rid of these.

Had a Fake Windows Security Scanner popping up and which did not allow me to use my Browsers. But I was able to deactivate the "virus" with the help of "iExplore" (http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/iexplore.exe.html). Now I want to install "Malwarebytes's Anti-Spyware" but the installation window is blank, I can't read a thing and therefore can't install the programm. The same with other Anti-Spywareprogramms. I tried to rename the setup file - did not work. What can I do?There are also some other defects, like the search bar on several homepages (i.e. YouTube) got so tiny I can't read what I am writing...

Very sorry to bother you and I appreciate your helpfulness. A few months ago I noticed I was no longer able to watch youtube videos and the like. I used to be able to without problem. Now it stops and starts. The computer began to bog down and run slower, getting worse over time. Today I was going to try to "clean house". I ran Spybot S&D, and then downloaded and ran Glary Utilities, Registry Mechanic, and Spyware Blaster. Now it's a mess, I don't have sound anymore. I have an older system and can't afford to upgrade now, but it did run a lot better a year ago than it does now.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi everyone! I run WinXP sp 2 with 1G ram. Lately my computer has been getting progressively slower. It lags when switching between windows or closing windows, or opening new programs, and programs just randomly freeze up (mostly firefox, MSN, and photoshop). It does this quite frequently and it never has before. It's also been idling at a higher CPU usage than normal. At first I thought it may have been my webcam, since lately having it on will shoot my CPU usage to 70-85% (or even 90 sometimes) when it wouldn't normally go over 50% in the past. I would reinstall the driver, but I can't find the CD and can't locate it anywhere on the internet. I've come to notice, though, that even without webcam on, my computer is so much slower and more easily overwhelmed than it has been in the past. I tried many of the things in your "slow computer?" forum to see if I could fix it, which included defragmenting, getting rid of old programs, etc etc. Anyhow, while those things showed temporary improvement, it didn't help overall. I've been quite hesitant to post on this forum because I'm very afraid of there actually being nothing wrong with my machine and me having wasted your time. Though I really can't deal with this lag, so I'll bring myself to post anyway. ]:

Hello, Shinerai
Welcome to TSF

My name is Billy O'Neal and I will be helping you. (Billy or Bill is fine, if you like.)
Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.
Old topics are closed after 3 days with no reply, and working topics are closed after 5 days. If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave, and if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have "vanished" .

Hi all,
I know this is and old-school post but I'm having problems with my laptop just chewing up CPU and Memory for no obvious reason (to me) even when idling. I'm running Windows XP with 4GB RAM (I know it only accepts 3GB of it) and twin Intel 1.5Ghz processors which should cause XP to run fine. It also takes a long time to boot, showing a black screen with a single flashing white cursor which it never used to do. This screen lasts for around 30 seconds before windows kicks in. I have tested my laptop using various anti-virus and spyware software (1 at a time!) and found nothing. I have also run HijackThis and below is the log post, if that helps anyone identify the problem. Also, I have a 150GB HD with 127GB free, and I have defragged it etc. Here's hoping for a solution.

We are using Windows XP Professional ver 5.1 SP3 on our laptop. Using IE 6

Recently, we started to get a lot of Pop ups and so my husband changed the settings to block Pop ups. He also decided to shut off the auto update feature as it was taking very long and do it manually once a week.

Since then we started to get a different - constant popup problem from Trend Micro Office scan that says URL Blocked and the URL is always url.adtrgt.com\...... with a very long message everytime we browse anything (it doesn't matter what browser we use)

Other Problems:
1. We are noticing internet browsing has slowed down considerably
2. When I click on any link on my Hotmail web page it keeps showing its Loading which has never happened before. It takes several clicks for the link to finally work. It also keeps giving me a message Windows Live Hotmail has diconnected. Please try again later. This has also never happened before.
3. When I shut off the computer a window pops up showing Ending now RUNDLL32. It seems like it is saving information and trying to shut the program down but when its towards the end of the bar. It says program has stopped responding. So I have been clicking the END NOW button and then it shuts off OK.
4. Today when I switched on the computer, it gave me a Windows message saying error opening IE. I forgot to note it down. But some error wherein I had a choice to SEND report etc.

I think the situation is turning from bad to worse. We have scanned the compute... Read more

This started suddenly. I had just worked on a windows movie maker file for a friends daughter for a school project and was using nero to convert it to a dvd file. After the first attempt was unsuccessful, my computer was crashing and I rebooted. When I did, I could no longer open my Nero, I got the following error:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item."

I soon found out, I also got this when I tried to use winzip, or vlc media player.

Who knows what else is effected. I have been searching for fixes, and found several threads here.

I have already tried a system restore to earlier in the day before it occured, as well as tried merging exefix.reg from another post reccomendation, and following instructions from http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421 still no luck.

Everything works fine in safe mode and I AM the administrator of my system.

I have a paid version of AVG. Ran virus checks, malware and spyware checks, nothing suspicious shows up.
It has now effected more programs, I initially posted in software, but now Im afraid its a malware or hidden trojan, as more and more programs become effected. PLEASE HELP I use my computer for my business with web design, photo editing and computer generated art.

I connected a micro SD via USB to my win10 computer and it said there was a problem with the drive - scan and fix it?

And I stupidly said 'yes' upon which it proceeded to destroy something like 300 images or more.

Since then I put another one in and got the same message. This time I did not say 'yes'. I took a look instead and everything is fine. The pics on that one are there and readable and copyable. Nothing wrong.

Is there any chance of getting back these destroyed images? Would it have been an index it destroyed rather than the files?

And would the advice be to shun using this 'scan and fix it' thing?

Answer:Scan and Fix It Made it Worse. How to Undo?

You can try the free version of Minitool Power Data Recovery. As long as you have less than 1 GB of data to recover you might be able to get it all using that tool. But recovery is always a crapshoot and/or hit-or-miss, so while you may get some of your images back, you may not get them all.

I was curious if anyone out there knows anything about this...

I have a self-built computer, three years old now...and day by day it's getting worse and worse!

AMD Athalon XP @ 1.1 GHz
512MB PC2700 DDR-SDRAM
Windows XP Pro.
Radeon 9500 Pro. 128MB DDR

The problems started about six months ago--every time I'd turn on the computer, it'd scan the hard drive for errors, claiming an improper shutdown. Then, two months ago, it started going to a black screen saying a windows file is corrupt, use the XP CD to restore the file--but simply restarting the computer at that point would get it going (only came up on a fresh start).

Then in the recent times, the screen is completely black. I turn on the computer, and no signal is sent (I'm guessing) to the monitor, so it's just flashing the power light...but after waiting approximently 10seconds, and restarting ('reset button'), it would go to the other problems--file corrupt screen, then the error scan...and this latest time, it took 4 resets for the screen to catch a signal...

All wires are plugged in good, and everything seems to be functioning properly, except for, of course, this problem I have...and I really have no idea where to start on fixing this. I planned on keeping this computer for another year or so--and hope this can be fixed! Anyways, any ideas/suggestions, please let me know!

Thanks,
-X

Answer:My Computer - Getting Worse & Worse! Is there hope?

take the graphics card out and insert it back in firmly making sure it is sat properly in its slot. check the manufacturers websites for your motherboard and graphics card and see what the bios updates do, and see if they have any FAQ's to check if anyone else has been having similiar problems to you in terms of people who have the same motherboard or graphics card??

Email the manufacturer(s) for your motherboard company and graphics company.

Answer:Malwarebyte's is not detecting my trojan. Slow speed + IE pop ups

Someone please help me, malwarebyte's and ESET's both cannot find my trojan with fully updated with full scans but I know it's there. They removed a few variations of something like 'win32 trojan downloader' a few days ago, but the issues haven't stopped. My computer is really slow and I am getting IE pop-ups even though I use Firefox.

Hey guys

Suffered from a TrojanClicker last week and I thought I had got ridden of all remnants.

ESET NOD32 does not find any traces of it, Spyboat S&D says clear and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware says no problems!

But when I search for something in Google I click on a link and 75% of the time it either opens a new tab with a search page or it stays in the same tab and opens to a search page.

Something weird is that I can click "back" to go back to the google search page and re-click the link and it will load normally alot of the time..

Anyone got any advice?

Using XP SP2 with Firefox and ZoneAlarm pro.

Answer:Malwarebyte's Finds No Problems But Still Being Redirected!

What version of Windows are you using?Nevermind i see it...Please print out and follow these instructions: "How to use SDFix". When using this tool, you must use the Administrator's account or an account with "Administrative rights"Disconnect from the Internet and temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any real time protection programs before performing a scan. When done, the SDFix report log will open in notepad and automatically be saved in the SDFix folder as Report.txt.If SDFix is unable to run after rebooting from Safe Mode, run SDFix in either Mode, and type F, then press Enter for it to finish the final stage and produce the report. Please copy and paste the contents of Report.txt in your next reply.Be sure to renable you anti-virus and and other security programs before connecting to the Internet.-- If the computer has been infected with the VirusAlert! malware warning from the clock and the Start Menu icons or drives are not visible, open the SDFix folder, right-click on either the XP_VirusAlert_Repair.inf or W2K VirusAlert_Repair.inf (depending on your version of Windows) and select Install from the Context menu. Then reboot to apply the changes.

Hello, Tech Guy Forums!

I've got a Compaq Presario 2410 laptop running Windows XP Home Ed. (SP2) that's seen a gradual decline in performance over the past several months. Boot-up time has increased to about 5 minutes now, applications load very slowly, even alt-tabbing between two windows can take me on the order of 15 seconds. I've been running Lavasoft's Adaware compulsively, but I'm concerned that it's missing something that's causing the slowdown. I am not seeing an popup windows, but the processor seems to be working quite hard even when no programs are open.

Also, I've had a Windows Update yellow shield popping up regularly for awhile now, which is trying to install Office XP Service Pack 3, but it gets halfway through and asks for the Office XP CD, which I misplaced during my last move across the country. Office works fine (except for the overall slowdown). I have no idea if the update I can't get and the slowdown are related.

I've attached a Hijackthis log in the hope that someone here might be able to help me locate the source of my problems. I'm not literate enough to interpret everything in the log, but I do know better than to start deleting system files willy-nilly. Any help given is thoroughly appreciated!

- Tom

Hello jondrums1 and welcome to TSF,

Download Ewido Security SuiteInstall Ewido Security Suite
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..Install background guard
Install scan via context menu

Double-click the icon on Desktop to launch Ewido
You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files. On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
Then click on Start Update.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido
When you have finished updating, EXIT Ewido.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link doesn't work) and install it.

*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp! If you have a 64 bit Operating System do NOT run Cleanup and let me know as we will use another utility.

My five + year old laptop is slow enough as it is. I needed a WAV to MP3 converter, downloaded & installed one off of an unknown website, and along come alot of other baggage attached. Some strange "Geek" online chat with computer "experts" with the program notifying me of malware, etc. I should have known better.

Anyway, MalwareBytes can't scan (JPG attached), it stays at a very early scan state at 19+ hours where as just a week before it would completely scan within an hour. Also my laptop slows to a crawl at times, stops for minutes at times. Please help.

Hello, I have recently removed the vurtumondo virus and the jkhfe.dll but i'm still having lag trouble with my machine, I havent installed anything for quite a while but my C: Drive went from a couple of gigs of space to around 400mb, which i suspect to come from malware. Adaware, Ewido, and Bitdefender find malware, but they keep coming back after deletion.

Here's my Log as of 10-01

computer turns on sooo slow virus scans rarely complete, last time ran for 11 hrs said there was nothing wrong. I am currently using avast. should i run a combo fix. ran one last year on brothers advise, also use glary and ccleaner.can anyone help

Answer:SLOW viurs scan and computer

<<...also use glary and ccleaner...>>IMO, neither of those programs is of any value with Win 7. CCleaner does nothing that cannot be done within Windows, other than the registry edit function...and that function is not suggested to be used here at BC. In addition, Ccleaner will delete your .dmp files, which can be valuable when trying to interpret system BSODs.Glary Utilities are just junk, IMO...not sure how people decide to use such.Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons: Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, ... Read more

Hello again,For the past 2 days I have been trying to fix my nieces computer.(acer aspire 5050/Windows Vista Home Basic, Version 6.0 build 6000) At first the computer was lagging something awful, Her AV was out of date so I installed 2009 McAfee Security Center Version 9.3.Malwarebytes found numerous items and I used malwarebytes to delete those. I will post a copy of the results in a sec. I also installed spyboy search and destroy and scanned and fixed errors. After installation of McAfee it got a clean sweep. After all that the computer is still lagging and I cannot even log onto the computer unless its in safe mode. Hello everyone,

I also posted this issue on Tech Support Forum, because I really need some help.

I purchased a brand new HP Touchsmart 620 (All-in-One Computer) about two weeks ago. I also have an HP laptop (Pavilion dv7). Both computers are running Windows 7 Home Premium and are 64 byte machines.

I had the purchased copy of Malwarebytes and Norton 360 Ver 5 from my previous computer (Dell desktop), and transferred them over via PCMover Professional when I received my new computer, along with many other programs. All has been working well until today. Starting today, I noticed that Norton 360 has been turned off (not by me), and so has Malwarebytes (not by me). I have tried manually turning on Malwarebytes, but it won't turn on, and in fact, trying to download the program to repair it only tells me that my Malwarebytes program is corrupted. I have tried "opening" Norton 360 from the Desktop icon, but it won't open.

I went to the Start button and tried turning on Norton 360 from there, but it won't open. I also tried inserting the Norton 360 disc to re-install the program, but when the Norton installation box appears on the screen and I click on Install Norton 360, nothing happens.

Figuring that I would try to uninstall Norton, I tried "uninstalling' Norton 360 from the Control Panel, but nothing happens there either. As a result of all of this, it appears that I have alsolutely no virus or computer protection on my new desktop. I am wri... Read more

1. Download the Norton Uninstall Tool from the web (I have copied the address) and run it. Don't know if this tool will actually remove Norton, since nothing else has worked. Assuming it works, I would re-install Norton 360.Click to expand...

i would do that

I am trying to fix my friends computer. Its a Windows Vista Basic Edition.

Here is what i've done so far:
CCLeaner (registry/temp)
Spybot Search And Destroy
AVG Free
Cleared most startup items / services via msconfig
defrag
Her computer takes forever to boot up to the windows login screen, let alone start the OS. Besides doing a complete reformat, what are some other options to speed up this system?

Her computer showed no viruses /spywares / malwares with my scans. Hardware malfunction maybe?

What are your thoughts on this one?

Answer:Computer Slow After Virus / Spyware Scan?

What are the system specs?

My laptop is running slow and has a host of problems. I am not sure which of these are pure vista problems or corruption or malware.

Here is a short list of issues.
Computer slow to startup and shutdown
Whenever an external disk is inserted I get a "Windows-No Disk" error window pop up
When I go to manage my computer to disk management the management window does not come up forever.
I am asked to restart for a AVG update after every startup. When I try to uninstall AVG I am unable.
Java asks to update everyday.
When i try to download photos in Adobe Lightroom the program freezes up. I was able to fix this temporarily by deleting my prefs but that will get old quickly.

I have run a number of free programs to look for malware etc and found nothing. Here is a HJthis log.

My computer was at a crawl, even step from booting to loading the desktop and beyond took at least 50x as long. Task Manager can't be launched, some kind of error appears. But in Safe Mode, it was running only a little slower than usual but otherwise fine, so I suspected a virus or malware. Attempts at using AVG antivirus's command line scan in Safe Mode was met with messages such as 'Boot Sector Hidden' or something like 'Processes scanning failed'.

Desperately I tried to run CHKDSK. Founds some errors, seemed to solve the problem, but just after that, AVG antivirus crashed while scanning. Next day, I try again, AVG seems to work detecting no threats, and Malwarebytes detected nothing too. I am not sure if the CHKDSK was the problem or merely a symptom of a deeper unresolved problem.

NOW I want to make sure my computer is virus or malware free. Please help me, this is my only laptop.

I have Hijack this logs, but there is some error message about hosts files, I can post them if you want.. I tried aswmbr anti root kit , but the program always crashes just as it's checking sysmain.dll

Some background: I am using Windows 7. Awhile ago, I accidently installed some malware by not unchecking the right boxes while installing DAEMON tools. Found out it was messing with my browser, so used Spybot Search and Destroy plus Malwarebytes anti-malware, found some malware uninstalled them, also remove them through Control Panel. Seemed fine. until a day later when I accidently turned off... Read more

Two days ago my EEEPC901/XP's screen went black and wouldn't come back on. After a reboot I got a BSOD saying it couldn't restart windows. I don't remember what the actual message was, but managed to get the computer up and running again after disabling Hyper threading in the BIOS.I was having some problems earlier with installing windows updates and the computer seemed to lag sometimes so I decided to check for a virus. Usually I use Housecall because I'm a bit paranoid about virusscanners such as Norton and McAffee and even AVG gets on my nerves. Housecall installed fine but gave me a "Iexplorer couldn't load sometingsomething" malfunction. I dont remember the details because Hitman pro fixed the issues. (Had some agentX trojans?). Now I wanted to be sure my computer was bug-free and tried to use Malwarebyte. It installed perfectly, but after the database was updated it gave me the "the current database is not supported by this version of Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware. Please download the latest version of the program." Uninstalled it, used MBAM-clean to clean up, cleaned after with Ccleaner (both files and register), rebooted, reinstalled, ran without updating. This got it running but when MBAM starts scanning the program closes itself without any warnings after 4 seconds. Ive tried everything, removed all the anti-virus leftovers, even tried installing the MBAM prefs exe that was posted for someone else. No improvement. Install... Read more

I'm a new user to this site and need to see if anyone can give me some tips.  About two days, I noticed my browser has been hijacked.  When I search the normal Yahoo search bar, it takes me to a page that looks like it's should be right, but some of the links take me to various places I don't want to go.  My system is also locking up, it won't allow me to go back to a prior restore point, and no one can seem to help.  I have BSAFE online filtering with what I believe is McAfee.  I ran the scan and it's not picking anything up.  I also installed windows live care, and it didn't find anything either (so I removed it).  I called Best Buy and they want to charge me 200.00 to attempt to fix.  But my computer is an older Compaq Presario and I can get one built for 350.00 that's 10 times better.  But I really don't have the extra cash and I am thinking about just wiping out the hard drive and doing a system restore with the original disks.  That being said, any ideas?  Like I said in my subject line, I installed malwarebytes, and the inon is on my desk.  But when I try to run it, it won't do anything.  And it won't even let me start Ad aware.  So whatever is on my computer, it's taken control and won't allow me to do the things it knows will wipe it out.  HELP!!!!

Answer:Computer infected; believe it's malware; won't let me run AdAware or Malwarebyte

$200.00  Wow, for that plaice you can go get another computer. If you have another computer, you can use it to scan the infected disk drive. You remove the hard drive from the infected computer and place it in the good computer as a slave. Do NOT run and programs  off the infected drive, don't even look at pictures on it. Use a good program, like megabytes, to do a full scan of the infected slave drive. The vest way to 'slave' a standard HDD is to just place it on the cable used by the CD-ROM drive. Leave the CD-Drive off for now.  This is when the drives are the standard IDE type found on most computers made in the paste few years. Some new ones are SATA and you would put a that drive on the second SATA plug in the good system. In either case, check the BIOS to see if slave drive is found by the BIOS.Now about the $200 thing. I think you would be better off investing in a good used computer just to have a backup system and to help you with future issues. I know that sounds like overkill, and a few years ago it was, but now used computers are even cheaper that a new HDD! Of course, they do not have all the power and storage you might want, but they have enough to serve ans a backup system.Of course, you have to be careful about who you buy from. On eBay you can find out how long they have been in business and what kind of reviews that have received.

I am pretty sure there is a key logger in my system or some sort of malware. I keep getting hacked and receive email from games I play which are saying my device is being accessed from unknown device. My authentication security is saving me at the moment.
I am currently on Windows 10. I read that combo fix usually get rids of most malware, however I can't run it on Windows 10. And I am also running Windows defender , malwarebytes anti malware free.
any help will be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Computer infected (key logger) -malwarebyte doesn't seem to be enough

Other than receiving emails supposedly from the game sites...what other symptoms do you have....what do you mean by hacked?

Do these emails give you a phone number to call or suggest scanning your computer with using a certain program? Do they contain
attachments or links?

A bit of background. I am running WIndows7 64-bit. I downloaded DAEMON tools lite recently, accidently installed malware, Uninstalled DAEMON tools and a malware I can see using control panel. Scanned with Spybot Search and Destroy then Malware Bytes. Found some stuff with Spybot, removed them. Computer seems fine, maybe a little laggy at random times, but might be me overthinking it right now.
Then yesterday, I accidently turned off the mains without shutting down. Started computer and it was super slow. Mouse/cursor is reactive and all, plus the icons on the desktop highlight fine, but whenever I try to do anything the computer hangs(or is slow slow it practically hangs). Turned off power, started com again, this time in Safe Mode, computer runs better. Installed AVG in Safe Mode, but it either says 'Processes scanning failed...[some error code]", or Boot Sector HIDDEN. Installed Advanced System Care, ran a scan, no malware.
So finally did a CHKDSK on C:, took some time found some "Read failure with status...". Com restarted by itself, seemed to run much smoother. Tried to do an AVG scan to confirm no viruses, scanned crashed with error "the instruction at 00775cf88a referenced memory at 0x37811030. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program". Have not CHKDSK D: yet. I do not dare attach my external drive to backup in case of virus.
Now I ran HijackThis, and here I am with the log file:

Answer:HijackThis Log: Please help Diagnose (Computer Slow,AVG can't complete scan)

I forgot to mention that when I run HijackThis scan, there is an error popping up almost instantaneously, saying: "For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file."  and some instructions.
I will follow those instructions and see what comes of it
Edit: I realised I don't know what HijackThis wants me to delete. I am running WIndows7 64-bit, I heard that might cause problems?

Hello my new bestest friends. I need help ! (as does everyone who comes here) My computer has been running like a bag of you know what for about 3 weeks. IE became corrupt and will not start even after uninstalling and re installing Versions 6 & 7. However this is not the problem as I am currently using safari and finding it great. The problem lies with my computer and it's sluggishness, ever since IE became corrupt my computer seems to have slowed. I am getting occasional Internal memory (blue dos screen) errors and several other little glitches like windows XP's search program will not close after I perform a file search. I have performed several Virus & spyware checks such as AVG and Spyware Doctor also several registry progs like registry Booster.AVG comes up clean, however Spyware Doctor and Registry Booster both show a lot of Registry errors inluding heaps of lnk file and url files. I removed most of these the first time around but discovered it to have deleted all my shortcuts and bookmarks that I much needed (well not so much the shortcuts) It did not remove the actual .exe files but was a major hassle as my dektop shortcuts where wiped. So I performed a system restore and now have everything back.I am wondering are/have these files become corrupt or is this just overkill on the software (spyware Doc & reg booster) behalf?? I have also noticed in my Hijack this log that there are several (missing files).I am so in need of help as i use my computer to p... Read more

My computer was at a crawl, even step from booting to loading the desktop and beyond took at least 50x as long. Start Menu takes like 5 minutes to load.

Answer:Suspiciously unable to scan, computer super-slow/hanging

The power being cut off like that may have corrupted some files.
You could try: Run sfc /scannow (yes there should be a space after c and before /) This will run System File Checker and scan your system for corrupted Windows Files
Run it several times and reboot. You have to run it more than once as some files can't be replaced with good ones from within Windows protected files until others have been put to rights.
So, click on the globe, type Run, click on Run to open the window and type sfc /scannow in the box and click on OK to start the process.

Hello there - I'm new, and I'm currently trying to fix my mother's computer.

Ok, here we go.....

My mother ended up having DNSbasic and other crud on her computer (she likes games).  I managed to clear that out using Norton, SAS, and Malwarebytes.  I also deleted some program folders and registry entries manually in safe mode (I know - Big NO-NO )

Anyway, I ended up with clean scans of health, and the computer and its browsers (at least firefox) was working great - fast connections, no pop-ups, no nothing .  I then decided to be more thorough and try to do a "hijack this!' kind of post on another tech site just to make sure I need nothing further (like a recovery console repair).

I downloaded the DDS.scr and gmer files (following another forum's instructions).  Disabled my norton 360 per instructions and my wifi.  Ran the scan and it seemed to work, but then it froze.  No action whatsoever from the computer.  I waited 5 min. or so and then decided to just cut the computer off - no proper shutdown.  I had no other choice.  Ctr+Alt+Del nor anything else was working.

When I restarted the computer, the startup was a little slower - like there were more processes going on.  But it started well enough, and I tried running it again.  Same problem, same solution.  I cut it back on (start up was slow again, but not any slower than before), logged back on, and moved on to the gmer file.... Answer:slow windows startup after computer froze during DDS program scan

IMO...whichever forum/website started you running malware scans...is the forum/website that you should be posting in.

Assuming that there was some reason that they started you on that partcular path...the trail should be followed until resolution of issues resulting from following that path.  My perspective is that we don't know what they saw...why a given course was suggested...and the possibility of suggestions/advice from another site...is fraught with the possibility of unintended error.

Your issues don't sound like O/S issues to me, based on what you've stated.

I was browsing the web this morning when my computer rebooted for no apparent reason. When the computer rebooted, my virus software was off and could not be restarted. IE at the time was running slow and now won't launch (although the process does show up in the Task Manager). I uninstalled my virus program and attempted to install AVG Free but it won't install. The installation program say I have to uninstall AntiMalware but I got rid of that over a week ago and it down not show up in my Add/Remove Programs window. Please -- any help/insight greatly appreciated.

thanks,

This is a friend's computer. He says (and I can confirm) that is is slow and unresponsive to a nearly debilitating degree. It is a Sony VAIO running Windows Vista 32-Bit.

An Avast scan turned up one infected file, C:/Windows/MEMORY.DMP that was "successfully deleted," but Avast also says that there is/was a virus running in the memory, and that a boot-time scan was necessary. After multiple attempts, the computer just skips any boot-time scan and goes straight to boot-up.

I do not have access to a windows boot disk/install cd. If absolutely necessary I may be able to procure a burned .iso, but not an official one.

Thank you for your time.

Hey I've been having major problems with my Laptop.
Every ten or so minutes when my McAfee 2010 security suite disables real-time scanning it'll re-enable itself causing a lot of alarming pop-up boxes which is slowing my computer. Not sure whats causing it but it seems like malware.
Next theres this process which starts at windows start-up (DivxUpdate.exe), I don't think this is actually a part of divx. I've read somewhere that it is a form of autorun malware, it consumes 99% of my cpu majorly slowing down my computer, I think I may have similar malware on here that are problematic.
Also my firefox frequently say that there's an unresponsive script which temporarily freezes my whole computer and when I finally manage to get to task manager I have to end the process which seems to be using a regular amount of cpu and memory.
I made a topic exactly 1 month ago but nobody answered so I thought I'd make a new one seeing as the problems are progressing and building up.

Thanks for any help I'm provided with.

Hi guys,

I know there are a million posts on this subject but I can't seem to make my comp run smoother - I've installed nothing weird recently, and can see no reason why it's clunking along along all of a sudden. I have around 40GB left of a 200GB HDD. I'm running the latest XP.

Should I post a HijackThis log?

Any other info needed?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have an HP Pavilion that is less than a year old, but I have been having some pretty annoying problems with it lately. After booting up, once I start running programs on my machine, it usually takes about 5 minutes for them to all start functioning properly. After starting them, the machine freezes and will not perform any commands, and will perform them all once it unfreezes. After this initial problem everything seems to run fine.

Also, Ad-Aware will start scanning normally but always freezes at the same current path/object while "deep scanning registry".

I suspect I may have a spyware infection as there are several fishy entries in my msconfig startup. I have ran a HiJack Link analysis and I am hoping that one of you knowledgeable folks may be kind enough to help. I would certainly appreciate any thoughts. Thank you for your time.

Hello, and many thanks to the volunteers here.

Windows XP Media Center Edition, SP2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
1.99 GHz
2 GB RAM

I have recently rescued my computer from 2 near-death experiences. The first time, about 5 weeks ago, I had a persistent blue screen of death but was able to figure out (using another computer with internet) that it was a problem with the driver on my Linksys USB network adapter. Problem resolved, thank God.

Then about a week ago the computer would boot as far as the desktop wallpaper but no desktop icons, start, or anything else would appear on the screen. This turned out to be a "winsock error" (whatever that means) and once more I was able to fix the problem after a lot of effort.

In both cases I came very close to wiping out my hard drive and starting over. I do have Carbonite as back-up but I'm hoping I don't have to resort to reinstalling Windows.

I don't know if this matters but I am unable to upgrade to SP3 as the update generates errors, so I am still at XP SP2. I am fine with that.

Yesterday and today the computer has been acting a bit "off." Today I had to reboot 3 times due to freezes. I have Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 and it kept trying to update itself for hours on end without success, wouldn't open, wouldn't shut down. I checked the error logs nd found a whole bunch of this error:

*bump* thanks...

Computer is running better for some reason but I haven't tried to run the virus scan again while waiting for a response from someone here. Just wondering if there is anything in the HJT log that looks amiss. Thanks.

My computer has been running extremely slowly and the track pad was often freezing.  I ran Adware then Malwarebytes.
Adware found this: http://prntscr.com/9vsqqs. http://prntscr.com/9wnvgl I believe it was in extensions.  two cases of it.

Mbam found nothing

the track pad didn't freeze for a couple days and the computer is very much faster.

Today it is a tiny bit slower and the track pad started freezing again.

I ran Adware again and it found that same odd file.  this time in files.

The iWin game is a cheap Mah Jong Quest cd I purchased at Walmart and installed on the computer. I did notice that iWin was asking permission to access the internet, but I told my McAfee firewall to block it. This did not cause any problems with my ability to play the game offline, just denied access to the iWin.com page, which was fine with me.

The most recent major update/changes was IE8. Other security scans, McAfee, Spybot and Ad-Aware have been done, but computer is still very slow and programs freeze up causing me to have to restart computer.

I did a HJT scan w/saved log as follows. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I have Acer Aspire 5742 with win 7 64 bit with 6 GB RAM and i5 M480 processor. 640 GB HDD and about 120GB left free.
The computer is getting very slow, to the point that I am thinking to wipe everything out and install Win XP since I have PCs with Win XP few years old and they never got this bad but if I can improve win7 on this PC and learn something in the process it would be great. I first noticed that Internet explorer is getting slow and freezes sometimes but now starting and running anything is slow, even stuff like 'My Computer' takes while to start up and is slow while running as well.
I have Avira Antivirus and Malware Bytes and scans are done on regular basis as well as defragmentation done once a week.
So far I have also tried to do selective boot up with only Microsoft services starting to see if any of the background programs causes the issues but it did not make any difference. I have also tried using Google Chrome to see if maybe this wold run faster but it is slow too.
Can anyone give me some starting points what to look for or maybe which software tools to use to give it better performance?
Thanks in advance for your time.

I wonder how your computer is slow on that configuration! Mine configuration is Core 2 Duo 2.20 Ghz, 320 GB hard disk (40 GB free) and 4 GB RAM. Windows 7 64 bit runs flawlessly on my lappy. I use firefox and it starts in no time! All apps runs like charm. I suggest you to reinstall Windows 7 and install the latest update from windows update.

Download TuneUp Utilities. It comes with 15 days trial period. It greatly optimizes the performance of the computer.

I have a quite recent clean install of XP Pro that recently became very slow to shut down. I have scoured this forum and tweaked the registry as suggested in some threads. However none of these made any difference. I know there are so many different factors in play here, so I have attached my HijackThis results.

Any ideas would be very welcome please.

Running slow, and getting slower. Normally it takes 2 - 3 minutes for the PC to be totally responsive doing email, google searches, running excel etc. But over the past several weeks, it takes 5- 7 minutes to be responsive. When I click on google it can take upwards of 1 minute or more to open if I attempt to do so before 5 minutes of warm up. And then, typing lags behind my keystrokes. As I am typing this message, my keystroking is way faster than what appears on the screen. As for email, when I hit the compose button, it can take 1 minute for yahoo or gmail to open a new message.

I run SUPERantiSpyware every few days, version 6.0.1194.

Please guide me as you have so often in the past.

Hi, My neighbour got infected with Security Tool on his computer, and I tried fixing it using the guide on this website:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-remo...e-security-toolIt worked pretty much perfect until step 15: CODEMBAM will now start scanning your computer for malware. This process can take quite a while, so we suggest you go and do something else and periodically check on the status of the scan. When MBAM is scanning it will look like the image below. It found a few threats and such, but then it got to a the file "torfusb" (tosrfusb?) or something like that in the Windows\Drivers folder I think. The computer just froze for a while and then it got bluescreen and rebooted. The bluescreen was just up for a second or something but I think i saw something with "memory" in it.Thing is, the computer doesn't get past the initial boot up screen anymore, or at least it didn't when I last tried. But it should be noted that it had some problems loading XP even before the bluescreen, probably due to the virus, so it's possible I just haven't waited long enough (waited upwards 10 minutes with just a black screen)If I get the computer running again, how can I make sure it doesn't get bluescreen again when I do the scan? And if that isn't possible, will the problem be solved by repairing Windows with the Windows XP disc or something like that? Some other info:It's a (i think) pretty old laptopIt uses Windows XP ProfessionalIf ... it started with some web pages taking a very long time to load, then some would hang completly. Now it seems as if all are taking extended time to load. Sometimes double clicking a link seems to make it almost run right, but there has been several instances where that has caused double posts, or worse...double payments.

i did a quick clean, defraged a few times, ran all the usual antivirus and malware aps like MBAM, adaware, spybot with very little found.

I even deleted the free antivirus ( avast) and loaded norton, but it found nothing and I deleted  norton too because it seemed like it was being a hog, so I am antivirus-less right now until I download avast or AVG or something.

So i was hoping to get someone with a little knowledge to help me dig deeper....although it may just be time for a new computer. I have been putting it off for a long time because this one is primaraly used by the little ones to play on so if thats the case please let me know as well.

Thanks

Where to start, I;m a computer novice but my computer has been getting pathetically slower and often now just freezes and won't do anything, have to switch off at mains and then re-start. Recently my spysweeper updated to a newer version and I have to keep it off or it's virtually at standstill. I had a problem with AVG (free version) and changed to Avast, also zone alarm, superantispyware and have sypbot search and destroy but it too is freezing and has a problem getting rid of ErrorKiller (even in safe mode). I have emptied temp folders defragged and everything I can think of to help to no avail.

Can anyone help me please in very simple non technical terms. Thank you for looking.

Old, OLD Sony Viao.. been a great workhorse...Problems started with it not booting into XP unless it rested overnight! (Just like me I guess) Real problem is that I need this machine badly to teach classes.
I uploaded all the new drivers on Sony site.
. As long as I use it in the morning it boots.. EXCEPT now the keys are producing errors. Not all, just some.
One forum mentioned problems with bad memory. I have sent for a Memtest disk.. hope that will help confirm.. If so, its a doable fix.
Sony doesn't seem to have a keyboard driver .. I updated drivers for Processor, and Bios.
Any other suggestions??
I don't want to buy a old XP laptop but that may be my only choice.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to view this. For some reason some links don't work on my home computer but do at my school. I tried them in both FireFox and IE, and nothing worked.

Links like:

Grinler's HiJackThis Tutorial

Said: "Not Found

The requested URL /forums/HijackThis_Tutorial_How_to_use_HijackThis_to_remov e_Browser_Hijackers_and_Spyware-tut42.html was not found on this server."

But they work perfectly at my school, or at my friends house. I'm starting to think its Mal-Ware vs. a problem with my browsers.

But I have the best of the best (pretty much every program Geek to Go admin's and staff has recommended) Anti Mal-Ware applications, and have been scanning non stop all day, and yesterday. Some have detected 1 or 2 problems, others have not, but nothing is better. I think things are getting worse, because now things are slowing down a lot, and programs are taking longer to open up.....and such.

So here is a HiJackThis Log:

Answer:Serious Problems getting worse

Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThisMake sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
Bitdefender - from step 6
Panda Scan - from step 6

Okay, so I have an ASUS Barebone Pundit P1-PH1 system, with a gig of ram, 3ghz processor, and lots of experience.

I usually have no problems getting rid of spyware, malware, etc, especially after looking in these forums countless times.

I have Rkill, mbam, dds, and hijack this. In case that helps.

Anyways, I seem to have aquired some viruses or malware or SOMETHING that is really wearing down my computer. I'm getting pop ups on firefox, i have 5 new processes all running under the name of lsass, im having some really slow times where it seems like nothing will work, my browser freezes, now im getting these error messages having to do with windows .net framework, and plenty of other problems.

My big thing is this. I have been trying to work on fixing everything, but im starting to get worn down. I cant even dfo a system restore point now, everytime i do it goes through the whole process and restarts the comp, but then boom. "System could not be restored to that point blah blah blah"

Please help. I'll upload whatever logs are needed, just please help me get my computer running like it once was :D

(And i'm sorry if this is the wrong forum :/, also I apologize for the grammar and spelling mistakes, its late, the babys crying, and im exhausted lol)

Answer:Need help!! Problems only getting worse!

Why is it that noone is helping me? Come on, I have so much faith in the techs of this site, what the heck

Help. Internet explorer keeps freezing on me and when it does, I can't shut down iexplore.exe in the processes. I have a feeling this part of a larger problem since I've had a lot of problems with Vista Home Premiere since I bought this PC a few months ago.
I've run virus scans with both AVG and PC Tools. And scanned for malware with Adaware. (my windows defender will not update.) I just installed hijack this and when I run it, I get 2 error screens before the log.

The first error reads "For some reason your system denied access to the hosts file. If any highjacked domains are in this file, Highjack this may NOT be able to fix this"

The second error reads "An unexpected error has occurred at procedure:ModMain_CheckOther1Item()Error#75-path/file access error

Then I get my log file. Also, I don't know if it is related but I tried to download and install Mozilla Firefox yesterday and I kept receiving an error message saying it could not install.

Here is the log file from Highjack this:

Thanks for all the help last time. Unfortunately, all of the problems cropped back up within a few days (old thread). Plus, I'm now getting constant warnings from AVG telling me it's found a virus "PSW.Agent.QX". I'd love any suggestions.
