My cursor started moving without moving my mouse

Question: My cursor started moving without moving my mouse

I am a bit worried because my cursor started hovering over my programs when I went to click the all programs on my start button. I'm not sure why but i'm pretty sure it wasn't my mouse. The reason being my cursor started hovering up and down over programs and I think it might of clicked something. I'm not sure if it did since i shut it off directly after I saw it move. I'm not sure what to do since i use mcafee total protection and it didnt find anything.

Preferred Solution: My cursor started moving without moving my mouse

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently got a new wireless mouse - my old one broke - and it all worked okay. Then today, it started not moving the cursor. Left and Right click works absolutely fine. The light on the bottom of the mouse is on as well. I've tried restarting my computer and unplugging the mouse. Still no luck. Also, the touchpad works fine, so its probably not a sensitivity problem.

I probably put this thread in the wrong section, I wasn't quite sure where to put it.

Answer:Mouse not moving cursor

There isn't really a whole lot you can fix with those things. Your best bet is to take it back and get a replacement.

Ok so for a few months now my HP Pavilion Dv5 has had an issue where my mouse will move all over the screen on its own and I cant control it when I want to use it. Usually if I unplug the charger it stops and I am able to use it. If it gets too out of hand I have to shut the computer a few times then it will go away for a couple weeks. Now I am over it and want it gone. I think its effecting my usb ports bc I was attempting to root a phone for a friend and it wont install drivers properly. I have run Vista and Win 7 Malware Removal/Cleaning Procedure
and I still am having the issue when charging. I am attaching the logs from running the programs for you guys to read over. thanks in advance.

Answer:mouse cursor moving on its own malware?

Welcome to Major Geeks!

While there are a few minor things to cleanup ( and we will get to that ) the issue with you mouse is likely not due to malware. We have had many dozens of similar complaints over the years and every single time it was a hardware issue and not malare.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Uninstall the below very old versions of software:
Java 7 Update 7

Now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Now rerun a scan with Hitman Pro and attach the new log.

hi guys, My mouse cursor moves automatically by it self without touching it, this is really annoying especially when you are writin a document, the page will go up and down automatically, So could it be a spyware or something similar, becauze i had already scanned my entire pc and found non threats.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Answer:Mouse cursor is moving automatically!

I think there is a "joke" malware downloaded via MSN that does this. In any case, it sounds like malware.

Do you have a firewall ?

Do you have an AV solution ? If so, what is it ?

Are the AV definitions updated ?

Do you have any other "odd" symptoms ?

Does the mouse move all over the place, or does it "crawl" always in the same direction ? Is the mouse USB, or PS-2 ?

I have a mouse that works completely fine on my laptop and even when moving the cursor really fast, there is no skipping or any problems at all. The tracking is good and smooth. However, when I plug the mouse into my pc, it works fine when moving the cursor slowly, but when I move it quickly, the cursor just goes crazy and skips all across the screen.

I have also tested this with other mice and it seems like the mice work fine on my laptop, but go crazy on my pc...Could the problem be my pc and not the mice?????

Help is greatly needed!!!!

Hi, my mouse model is a Logitech Marathon M750 (Wireless).

I just got this mouse along with a keyboard in a mouse-keyboard combo I got off Amazon. The keyboard works great, completely functional, but the mouse, not as much.

The mouse's left click, right click, middle click, scrolling, etc., all work perfectly, but oddly, the cursor is not moving despite my attempts to move it. My previous mouse I had was also by Logitech, a M135/M125 (also wireless), with a fully functional cursor ability and button ability. I'm actually using that M135/M235 to post this.

This is the first forum post I have posted anywhere on tech support, because usually I get the problems figured out, but this has me baffled. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Answer:Mouse cursor not moving, but the buttons work

Sounds like the mouse is faulty. If the buttons are working, you should be able to move the cursor as well.

I am using LLC 2.6.0 (302) on my iMac 10.5.6. I receive the pop up window indicating that my USB MX air is connected but unable to move the cursor. I have switched the on/off slide button while holding down the left mouse button, then clicking the right mouse button five times, then releasing all mouse buttons. I still have no mouse movement at all. While doing the above I disconnected my old laser mouse. My mouse is fully charged. Has anyone had this problem. No response from logitech.

Hi there. I hope you can help.

I have a Toshiba Satellite U500, less than a year old, and am having real problems with the mouse cursor moving where it wants, when it wants, sometimes even when my hands are nowhere near the laptop. I've run every virus/trojan/malware scan and there are no problems there. Tapping is disabled and the sensity levels etc are low. I am using Windows 7 and there were no problems until the last couple of days (apart from an occasional hour or two of the same thing a few months ago.

Oh and I don't have an external mouse; only the inbuilt Toshiba one. Any ideas? It's making working very difficult.

Many thanks.

Hi,
I'm new here at Tech Guy, seems a good place to learn some computer tips and to get help ! So signed up straight away !

Not long after, I came across a problem.. My Mouse Cursor is moving when i left click ?!
It usally moves downward towards right hand corner of the screen ..

I just bought this mouse it's a Razor : Imperator .. Installed drivers and the mouse correctly ! ..
I also believe this was happening with my old mouse, so must be the computer in some way ?

I also noticed it after playing music, from my computer ( YouTube ) that comes out of a HiFi, the HiFi speakers are on the same desk as my mouse and i do play my music loud! Maybe its effecting it in some way ? I'd maybe expect it while im playing music but when the music is off, its all quite, it still does it ?

I did read afew other post's and i saw one about getting HijackThis and posting what the scan shows, i have done this below.

If theres anything somone could suggest it would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks !

I've had a problem thats been persistent throughout the past week. Sometimes while I'm browsing a website and I try to move my mouse cursor, it will sometimes click on a link that it passes over, even if I didn't click on it. This tends to get annoying especially if the site has ads on it. At first I thought it may have been my laptop's "tap to click" feature but I knew that I had it disabled months ago, so I checked to see if it was still disabled, and it is. This problem also occured when I was in the process of removing a previous infection but persisted even afterward, and no spyware or virus detections pop up. I'm thinking it may have something to do with some registry values that were changed to solve an issue I was having with automatic key strokes, since sometimes if I press two keys at once and let them go it will act as if I'm holding the key I first pressed, which gets annoying and irritating while trying to play certain games. I'm using an Acer Aspire 5517 with Windows 7 installed in case it's a software or hardware issue with either one that I'm not aware of.

EDIT: On one instance I do recall leaving the cursor over a link by accident and, upon moving my hand away from the keypad, it would load the link about a second later, which led me to believe that some kind of malware may be involved.

Answer:Mouse cursor randomly clicks links while moving?

Try going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the latest drivers for your trackpad.

If that does nothing, try disabling the trackpad and plugging in a USB mouse. If the behavior stops, you know the problem is with the trackpad.

Every now and then - usually 0/1/2 per day starts automatic random clicking only on the place where is cursor (I have a touch-pad but I use a mouse), and the cursor is slowly moving. After restart it is usually fine again. I have no info when this has started, since the owner of the computer don't know, and I'm trying to help as I use this PC, too. AV is AVG, and I tried spybot scan - no difference, and AVG scan that I made now found 22 tracking cookies, but nothing important.

Thank you for the help!

Hi there im very new in here so plz have patience and my english aint the best so bear with me

3 days ago i started up my comp, went in to dying light and very fast it hit me something was wrong.
When ever i was moving my mouse cursor everything started to lag, like a mini freeze lag and chopping performance.

Ive been checking out taskmanager and while moving around the cursor my cpu jumps to 30-40% and my sound starts to distort. Another strange thing, as we speak my cpu usage is about 8% and my memory is 63% wich i find very strange (idle).

And my SSD with my OS on it, is also acting strange it has a high % in usage despite being idle. I managed to fix this cursor problem, by shutting down Intel technology access service.

I really dont have a clue why this process is causing all this fuzz, but after i shut it down i immediately feel the strange feeling when moving the mouse. Like a input lag of some sort, hope some one can help me out here (win 8)

Answer:Very laggy and choppy performance when moving mouse cursor

Welcome to the Forums.

First thing I would do is a complete scan with MBAM

The free version scans the same as the paid.
If nothing shows up then I would go in Device Manager and delete the driver for the Mouse.
Just right click on the mouse device and click Delete.
Reboot. When it comes back up it will say
"Windows has found new hardware..."
and it will install the same mouse driver it had before. For some reason about half the time this fixes device problems for some time if not permanently. If this doesn't work then there may be some other hardware issue.

Hi all,

This has been going on since yesterday and started just like that. I haven't made any changes to the system other than to install an application over a week ago (un-installing it makes no difference).

Basically, every time I launch these two applications:

- Microsoft Visual Studio 2010
- Microsoft Expression Web 4

(could be more too)

...the mouse cursor stops responding as soon as the splash screen appears. It's not just my wireless Logitech mouse that behaves this way, the built in touchpad also no longer responds! No movement and no clicking is detected. The strange thing is when I press CTRL+ALT+DEL and the screen changes to display the options (lock, switch user, change password, launch task manager etc), I am able to move the mouse. I.e. the mouse doesn't work only when the desktop or any open applications are in the foreground. If I lock my machine, at the logon screen, the mouse works too! The problem is fixed after a reboot but comes back whenever I launch these two applications. Both applications have also been reinstalled.

This can't be a hardware or driver issue as the mouse does work in some cases and everything on my laptop is 100% up to date in terms of updates and drivers (checked just now). I really don't want to rebuild Windows as I have thousands of settings which I will not be able to reproduce. Anyone?

Thanks

Not sure which sub forum to put this in as I don't know what the cause it.

I just noticed recently and I'm pretty sure it wasn't doing it before, but whenever I move my mouse cursor on the screen there is this really faint beeeeeeeep beeeeeeeeeep coming out of my speakers. It also produces the same sound when I disconnect my speakers and use headphones, so I'm thinking it's likely a software problem and not interference in cables or something like that.

Anyone else experienced this and know how to fix it?

Answer:Annoying beeep noise when moving mouse cursor?

Sounds like EMI of some sorts.

Have you done anything different you can remember when it happened? Do you have a lot of stuff plugged in or is the mouse plugged in to the usb adjacent to the speakers? Also, do you have a wireless mouse or wired?

Typically, these things shouldn't cause the problem under normal circumstances, but the information can help us eliminate some things.

Alright sooooo.

I completely reformatted my computer. I have two drives.

I deleted/created partitions on both, and chose to format/install Windows xp on the C: driver. The format got to 100%, then said the format couldn't be completely probably due to a bad hard drive. I switched out my drive for another spare I had thinking I just got unlucky and my drive had died...

To my surprise, I got the same error with a completely seperate hard drive. Trying various things, I swapped the xp disk into my other DVD-Rom on my computer and the formatting went fine!

Xp was installed, no problems. Now, however, my CPU usage spikes to 100% when doing very minimal tasks such as moving a window around the screen (computer lags, leaving traces of the window around the screen) or even scrolling up and down on a web page with the mouse wheel.

Weird thing is, I can navigate both hard drives just fine. I don't know if my CPU is dying, motherboard dying, or what... But is there anyone that can help me out with this?

I'm currently reinstalling all my drivers praying that this somehow magically fixes it

Hi,
I have windows vista.
A couple of weeks ago someone on here assisted me with my computer. I had search engine redirect, along with other problems.
It was okay for awhile but then all of a sudden it started working very badly now. One thing is norton 360 seemed to disappear from my computer. I got directions and uninstalled norton and then reinstalled it again, now the norton seems to be working okay.
But since then, the mouse cursor has been moving erratically, totally disappearing and freezing up the whole screen. The screen keeps flashing to blank screens or my previous screen for a few seconds and then coming back to the screen I am on. It is having problems restarting alot of times and sometimes I can not even do anything before it freezes. I have started it in safe mode with networking and still seemed to have the same problems. The mouse pointer was still moving erratically and not working well. Just in the time that I have typed this so far the screen has flashed to a previous screen 4 times.
I have run norton scans and I dont think it is finding to much but tracking cookies.
Any other help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Kim

Hello Kim,,, may be having a hard drive beginning to fail or file corruption. I would recommend immediate backupo of important files in case. Probably not a malware issue. So I 'd run SFC and if you still hae trouble ask this in Vista and they can check your drive and other things. Please run SFC (System File Checker) Please run System File Checker sfc /scannow... For more information on this tool see How To Use Sfc.exe To Repair System FilesNOTE for Vista/WIN 7 users..The command needs to be run from an Elevated Command Prompt.Click Start, type cmd into the Start/Search box,right-click cmd.exe in the list above and select 'Run as Administrator'You will need your operating system CD handy.Open Windows Task Manager....by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESCThen click File.. then New Task(Run)In the box that opens type sfc /scannow ......There is a space between c and /Click OKLet it run and insert the CD when asked.

My parents recently complained of their mouse cursor moving on its own. I had them immediately run a boot-time scan with Avast and it quarantined quite a few files related to something called Recipe Hub -- quite possibly a program they downloaded. I didn't check every file, but among the viruses found were the following:

Win32:PUP-gen [PUP]
Win32:FunWeb-K [PUP]
Win32:FunWeb-J [PUP]
Java:Agent-XB [Expl]

The only other step I've had them take is to make sure they are up-to-date with Windows Update. They are now. This issue may have been eliminated but I just want to make sure.

Ok.. So.. I am hoping that someone reads this and has the magical answer for me... When using the built in touchpad, some times the mouse cursor fails to move when I attempt to use it...  Interestingly (and frustratingly), the mouse is detecting 'input'.. I have adjusted my mouse settings to keep the taskbar indicator shown all of the time... When the mouse fails to move on command, I can see via the indicator that the software is detecting the pressure of my finger (as it shows a green circle in the touchpad icon)...  Also, I can reproduce the problem on command - if I just gently place my finger on the touchpad and attempt to move the cursor down, I can get it to freeze 1 in 3 times at will...  I have attempted driver uninstall and reinstall as well as attempting to use the generic factory driver to no avail... I have also messed with the settings a great deal to try and correct this behavior as I am most certain that it is a software problem... Does anyone have any insight on this issue?  Any help is greatly appreciated! -Matt

Have had Y410p for years without this issue. Now when I move the mouse cursor across the screen, it auto clicks/auto selects (without me tapping or clicking) and then release automatically as well. It will do this continuously as I keep moving the mouse cursor with the Touchpad. This is super annoying and causes multiple issues with my ability do most things on my Lenovo laptop. The two biggest problems are: click buttons which I do not intend and selecting/moving icons & screens which I do not intend. And it makes it nearly impossible to use the laptop for gaming. I have downloaded and reinstalled the Touchpad ELAN driver (version 11.4.17.1 for my O/S Windows 8). I have gone through Mouse Properities setting and ELAN Smart-Pad settings. I have disabled Tapping, but does not make a difference. I have set Sensitivity to max Low and then max High, but does not make a difference. Any ideas on how to solve this particularly annoying Touchpad issue? Help please! Thanks.

Answer:IdeaPad Touchpad issue with auto-clicking/auto-selecting when moving mouse cursor

Disable TAPPING in the Synaptic control panel. See the screen shot via the Device settings tab and properties. TAPPING is unchecked - a useless feature and a easy way to wreck and operating system and/or loose files. Its far too easy to tap drag and drop a folder or worst without realizing it until its too late. If its a system fie/folder you likely won't boot the next time or you kill an application. I have been diabling this on notebooks for decades. DEADLY feature.

Cursor is smooth and fast at startup (and in safe mode), sound works fine (startup noise) but when everything loads and Windows is actually usable, it's like the PC works great .. until you move the cursor.

Cursor is choppy and affects sounds. I can watch video and listen to music perfectly, until I move the cursor.

I made a video of this:

www.youtube.com/watch?&v=4JwfH3qgChI

Things I've tried: uninstalling / reinstalling / repairing / etc. mouse drivers, video card drivers, network adapter drivers (thought the problem was related to network activity because of startup/safe mode behaviour being normal), catalyst control centre, etc.

3.25 GB ram (2x2 GB ddr3 tested with Memtest)
Radeon HD 6450 1GB
Atheros AR8131 Ethernet
XP Pro SP3
Mouse is a wired Logitech MX518, uses Setpoint software
All the specs I can think of, let me know if you think any other info would help

In task manager performance tab, cpu goes to 100% usage when the cursor is moved around.

New build, no viruses, scanned for good measure with Avast (then uninstalled Avast to see if it helped), Malwarebytes, Spybot, Microsoft Security etc. I don't see how infection could even be a problem at this point

Anyone recognise this problem or have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Have i7 16gb ram 6gb gtx 1060 win 10
Was working fine then mid game last week request to install program popped up, cancelled it but it made the above problem happen then crashed the game (PUBG). It came back and thinking it was windows update installed it and have had the problem since.

PC was build two months ago, I use it for gaming maybe three hours a week max and admin/emails less than 1 hour a week.

Problem is happening with all games, worse when I lower the graphics quality and better when it is on ultra.

Temperatures have been good, no overheating, all drivers up to date.

Have a video but cannot post it here but in pubg for example on the start screen the man stands in the middle and it is like triangles are slashing across his body not quite in line with the colours of the character. If I turn the quality down lines go across the screen as well as the above.

Hope someone can help.

I bought my kids an Acer10 4300 amd 1gig memory 250K HD with Vista and it was working great plenty of speed.

That was about six months ago, now it has gotten pretty slow and loses internet connectivity often.

Can I revert it back to that time.

Or... what would you do?

Any ideas apprteciated.

Answer:Vista Has Started Moving Very Slowly These Days

If you've setup the Acer eRecovery options you should be able to restore it to factory condition there. I would highly recommend using that utility to create recovery disks for the system.

Before we dive into malware hunting, lets try a couple simple fixes. It may be that you are accidentally grazing the touchpad or the sensitivity is set too high.

Have you tried connecting an external mouse to the laptop and using that?

If I double-click (anywhere in the touchpad) on a scroll handle in a window, don't let up on th esecond click, and then move my finger down a bit the cursor starts moving down too.  This scrolls the Window but moves the cursor too.  Even after the scroller slider gets to the bottom of the window the cursor continues to move down. I don't want the cursor to move like this.  And I definitely don't want it moving outside of the Window.  How do I disable this behavior? This is on a lenovo x201.  Driver 15.0.18.0.  Windows 7. I would like to use the edges to perform scrolling.

Answer:cursor keeps moving

you should already be able to use your edges for scrolling. just go to the far right side of the touch pad, run your finger up and down, and it should go. does it on my x201. As for the settings on the cursor:1) goto control panel2)search for "mouse" or "cursor"3)click on the "mouse" group of options (any of them should open the same settings window, just on a different tab)4)The far right tab at the top of that window should read "UltraNav" - click on that5) at the middle of the window, right below the Track Point options, should be the options for the Touch Pad. click on settings. for the  double tap, hold  and drag:goto tapping - tap and drag, and uncheck the "Tag again and hold to drag" box. also In the settings menu, you can goto "scrolling - one finger scrolling - scrolling regions" to define where on the sides of the keypadyou want scrolling regions.   hope this helpsThuringen

Hi, all - I am new to this site. Last night, I noticed my laptop cursor moving wildly all over the screen when I was on FaceBook. FYI, I have a wireless HP laptop with Windows 7, a Linksys router, and a wired PC with Windows XP. I have WAP security, but I'm not real bright about internet security, hence this post.

I noticed a new wireless network when I checked, and I seem to have the problem when this neighbor is on. A few questions:

Did he crack my network? If so, what can he see?

Can he see what I type as a password even though it is not visible when I type it?

Can I lock him out?
I had to change my network password after a power outage a few month ago, and it was much shorter. Should I reset it to a longer one? Will this stop my neighbor, if he is on my network? Also, what can he see? Everything I do?

Thanks for your help. This is a great assistance to us amateurs!

I have an ATI 5770 with the 5 mini display ports and am running 3 monitors. The cursor moves across all 3 monitors but stops on the right edge of the right monitor and the left edge of the left monitor. Is there a way I can get the cursor to move to the right from the right monitor to the left monitor and the left monitor to the right monitor? I hope this makes sense.

Answer:Moving cursor on 3 monitors

Hi, case1!

I'm not aware of any "wrap around" mouse function though others might weigh in differently.

In essence, an extended monitor, whether it is on one, two, three, or even six monitors still constitutes a constrained desktop - just an extended one.

The trackpoint on this e540 keeps moving after I let it go. The issue arrises when I move the cursor downwards - it then moves upwards on its own, sometimes for several seconds. This happens quite often, and when it happens it obviously makes clicking things hard. I guess it doesn't matter since I'm returning it anyway because of all the issues.

When typing the cursor will jump to a different line or back along the same line, completely randomly it did this also with Win8. It have tried Packard Bell tech support. They dismiss my problem out of hand by blaming Win7. drivers.
Out of desperation I tried to reinstall Win8 but the rescue disk failed.

I have downloaded all available drivers from Packard Bell support and installed them.

I have run Norton Driver Manager which reports the following:

Missing Drivers Base System Device
Base System Device
Broadcom Netlink NIC
Synoptics SMBus Driver

Out of Date Drivers
High definition Audio Controller
Sound, Video, Games, Keyboard
SDA standard compliant SD host controller
Standard enhanced PCI to USB controller
It has taken me 15 minutes to type this due to this problem.

At first I thought I was imagining it, but no, after a recent reinstall of XP my cursor has got wanderlust.I can be typing away quite merrily when all of a sudden the cursor will move mid word and I find I've started typing somewhere completely differently. I make sure I'm well away from the touchpad (it's a Dell Latitude D510)just in case but that doesn't make a jot of difference. My guess is that something wasn't reinstalled or reloaded but I haven't got the first clue what. All suggestions welcomecheers

Answer:Cursor keeps moving after XP reinstall

Maybe the mouse drivers need re installJust a thought,as this would cause the cursor to move erratically.

Hi

I am looking for a software that automates mouse movements. I am creating an online training course and would like to automate mouse clicks by defining either a path or a number of points on the screen and have the mouse go exactly along the path or from point to point. It is important that the cursor appears to go directly from one point to another, as opposed to me moving it, so that it looks more professional. I don't really even need it to click - just move!

As this is one of many goals I need to achieve, I would prefer it to be very simple. As simple as clicking a few points and hitting a 'Go' button. It would be much too impractical to have to script it manually.

Does anyone know of such a software? Of course I'd prefer freeware, but I also would pay for what it's worth. Any advice or references would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Cheers,
Link.

After about 10 minutes of use, my touchpad cursor will do one of 2 things: Freeze and become unresponsive or move erratically around the screen clicking all over the place.  Lately it's been more of the latter.  Here's a video of what I'm talking about:

After talking to tech support, I've restored twice (once to Windows 8.1 and once to Windows 10). We've also updated all drivers, reflashed BIOS, and ran diagnostics - no luck.
I've tried to replace the touchpad entirely but Dell (or any 3rd party seller) does not offer a replacement part for the touchpad.

And the touchscreen and external mouse work fine, so I've just disabled the touchpad in device manager for now. I'm not experiencing the issue with the touchpad disabled.

When typing, my shift keys are moving my typing cursor. So, when I'm trying to capitalize or use a special character, the left shift key moves the cursor to the left and my right shift key moves it to the end of the sentence.

My computer settings are correct and there are no active locks set on my keyboard (like caps lock or num loc)k, I've already checked.

However, as a student trying to write enormous essays, this is quite irritating so any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated.

I am running Windows 7 Home 64bit and the keyboard is a Hip Street model HS-KB050 .

Answer:Why would my shift key be moving my cursor

I should also note that I have searched this online already and found a whole lot of nothing . . . I know it's likely not a problem with windows but I need some techie advice and this seems like a great place to get it

Hello all

today I was bored so I randomly opened taskmanager and went to the performance-tab. My CPU usage was 30% in taskmanager when moving around my mouse cursor randomly (not opening anything, clicking anything etc). Then I had to do something downstairs, so went downstrairs with the performance-tab still opened, came back and saw that the CPU usage was 1%. But as soon as I moved my mouse the CPU usage went up from 1% to 30% in no-time. Though my laptop has no problems at all performance-related.

is it normal that the CPU usage goes up so high just because you're moving the cursor?

Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 @2.2 GHz
4 GB RAM DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 240m 1 GB

When I am typing, emails, chat msgs, etc and I am careful to avoid the touchpad, my cursor will automatically move back to the front or middle of verbiage I have already typed, and cause over typing.

Answer:Moving cursor while typing

Hi there

This is a really annoying problem that sometimes appears on laptops - it can make the computer almost unuseable for input.

Two possible solutions --

1) Disable the touchpad completely when using a mouse -- you might need to install the generic synaptic touchpad driver rather than the specific one for your computer in order to disable the touchpad.

2) Video driver is not correct.

Note also the problem might only occur when you are actually on the Internet - and even then only on some ISP's / Wifi connections - no idea why either.

This is a HIDEOUSLY irritating problem - but it's very hard to explain to those who've never had it. Usually finding a touchpad driver that allows you to disable the touchpad solves the issue -- note you might have to uninstall your current one and load the generic driver.

Cheers

Okay. I have a mouse plugged into my laptop. The cursor moves with the mouse, but not if i'm using the pad-thingy. I tried unplugging the mouse, but it still doesn't work. I want to know if I possibly hit a button in control panel or something. I have a Latitude D610 laptop, I don't know if that's important.

Answer:Cursor not moving on laptop

Look in device manager for the touchpad. If not listed there then you need to install the chipset drivers from the manufacture of the computers' website.

I purchased my laptop about a year and a half ago and had no major problems till this week.
It began a couple of days ago when the image on the screen started shaking, moving up and down and lines started appearing on the screen and going away. I restarted the computer but the screen did not want to power on. After a few tries it eventually came and worked fine for a while before it began doing the same thing again. This happened a few times until yesterday when no matter how many times i tried it did not come on.

I do not think the problem is only with the screen because I have the laptop connected to my TV through the VGA cable and the image on there did the same thing once as well. Also even though the laptop powers up and the power light lights up, the words SATELLITE do not light up unless the screen comes on.

Also the CAPS LOCK key has a light on it that should be lighting up(when pressed) as well if everything is working fine and it does not light up either.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Thank you.

Hi!

Have you installed the newest display driver from the Toshiba website?
http://www.csd.toshiba.com

In worst case the mainboard must be replaced. I doubt that?s an internal display issue because you have the same issue on the external monitor.
Therefore contact the nearest ASP.

I have a new dell laptop w/windows vista system and using roadrunner as ISP. While typing an email, the cursor will jump around all over to a new spot usually back to the middle of previously typed areas. I'll then have to delete that part and replace cursor where it needs to be. Any ideas on what to do to fix this besides Hari Kari? It happens on websites, anywhere I type besides just emails.

If I am deleting a bunch of text, I will highlight it with the keyboard by holding shift + ctrl and using the left arrow to go back and select it all and then erase it.

Today, when I press those keys, nothing happens. I can highlight words by holding shift and hitting the left arrow. I can move one word at a time by holding ctrl and hitting the left arrow. But when I do them at the same time, nothing happens. Sticky keys is off. Filter keys is off.

I have recently upgraded from Windows Vista to W7.
Most things are working fine except that my cursor seems to be hyper-sensitive, jumps around without any apparent cause and makes using any typing programme a real chore as it will erase things onscreen if I don't watch every word I am typing or it will jump to another line and carry on typing there.
Please can someone help me get rid of this hyper-sensitivity?
Thanks.

how do i repair my laptop with moving cursor?

Answer:How to repair laptop with moving cursor?

That's probably a defective hardware problem. If you're using a corded or wireless mouse, it's common for the wires inside the cable to get damaged, for the corded mouse or the transmitter/receiver for the wireless mouse, usually right near where they enter the mouse or transmitter/receiver - try another one. If you're using the touchpad, you may have to replace it.However.... - have you dropped the laptop, or have you spilled any liquid on the laptop, or exposed it to liquid (e.g. rain) since the touchpad mouse last worked properly? It doesn't matter whether it was running at the time or not. - if you have just cleaned it, I have found some touchpads behave weirdly for a while after they have been cleaned, especially likely if you use isopropyl alcohol, or something containing that. Some behave weirdly when you merely get them wet. They continue to behave weirdly long after they appear to be dry, because the liquid has been absorbed into the touchpad, and/or into the chip(s) underneath it that control it. In that case, it will probably be okay the next day, but it's advisable to NOT use the laptop till then.

This isnt a real problem but it is frustrating, My keyboard arrow keys used to move my cursor around documents like lotus notes and MS excel. Last week the arrows started only scrolling the page instead of moving the cursor. Really annoying when using a spreadsheet.. I humbly request some advice...

Thanks

It's called,... the scroll lock button. You'll find it on your keyboard as ScrLk. Press it... and you'll see one of the 3 lights on your keyboard go off, (1 light for Cap Locks, 1 for Number Locks, and 1 for Scroll Lock)

Hi,I have a problem with my laptop. From time to time (aprox 20s) cursor is moving to one point, what is extremly annoying. After system restart (windows 10 pro 64bit) this point is in up-left corner of the screen. After pen calibration point changes its location to somewhere around center of the screen.Problem doesn't occur when I turn off "HID-compliant pen" in device manager.I tried to reinstal WinTab and UltraNav drivers but nothing changes. What else can I do to get rid of this problem?Regards, Aleksander Margolis

I have a Latitude E6410 with one odd issue- the cursor moves by itself, normally to the lower left hand corner of the screen, but not always. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm using the touchpad or external mouse. It's pretty much always done this, but seems to be a little worse as of late. I just tried updating the latest version of the Alps software and the issue has persisted. Any ideas?

Answer:Latitude E6410 cursor moving by itself

Did you ever get to the bottom of your issues with the wandering cursor. I have a bad problem with that. I removed the battery, put back in. Changed power supplys, went into touchpad properties and disabled the pointstick, turned off scrolling, pinch zoom, desensitized it and I don't have any problems now. I don't know which one of these items actually fixed it. There is a video of guy having issues with his at this address. Copy and paste this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88zNZz6WugM&feature=em-share_video_user
He would have the issue when he hit the left side of his touchpad on the plastic. So maybe there is some touching of metal there.
Anyhow mine seems to be working ok now. I have tried to make it wander again and I have not been able to duplicate the problem so maybe it will not happen again.
What happen to yours?

Good day everyone,

I would just like to mention that this beautiful machine of mine is 5-6 years old, so I'd understand if it's beyond repair, but I'd like to see if this problem could be fixed anyway.

For quite a while now, I've been experiencing some frame rate lag, whoever, it only lags whenever there's movement (For example, if flying a plane in a video game, I would experience screen tearing, but would be fine if I would just be sitting there with the plane doing nothing.)

I would be experiencing the same thing while watching videos, once again lagging whenever there would be movement, but would be fine if it was just some dude talking for example. Also, while watching a video on youtube, it would sometimes jump to 60% CPU usage, but would stay around 25-30% usage most of the time while the video is playing.

And just moving the cursor around makes the CPU usage jump to 50%. When idle, it's stays around 5-8%. Is this normal?

Would all of these be caused by a faulty CPU, or is it just the fact that the computer is slowly dieing of old age?

Thank you so much in advance for the help, and hope you guys had a merry Christmas and a happy new year. :P

P.S. Sorry if this wasn't posted in the right section.

Hello there. I have a problem with the touchpad: occasionally (but rather frequently) the cursor starts moving by itself in some diagonal direction. Eventually it stops moving autonomously, but the problem can resume later. When the problem occurs, the laptop becomes unusable.

I ask to a technician here at my work to look into the problem, and he said that the drivers are up-to-date.

Is there a fix for this?

Answer:Portege Z30-A-191 - the cursor starts moving by itself

Can you please make small test. Remove touchpad driver from the system and check how it works with “standard driver”. Please send us some feedback.
