Preferred Solution: Slow computer slow internet response packet loss

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. My desktop is currently wired. The company name of my internet is Clear.I've been having really really slow internet for the past week. It's not just on my computer; the connection on my other computer is slow as well. I tried doing speed tests from speedtest.net and speakeasy.net/speedtest but I haven't been able to get the upload speed. I always get an error saying that there was a problem with trying to get the upload files. I also tried doing ping tests a few times from pingtest.net and got this: I've tried calling the company and found that their customer support does not know what they are doing. I was on the phone with them for about two hours. No results. The connection was fine a week ago with no packets being lost or anything. Answer:Slow Internet - Packet Loss.

Since it's a wireless connection, try moving the modem around a bit. Maybe place it in a window facing their tower or up higher on a shelf and see if that makes a difference. A WiMax ISP is not as "plug-and-play" as Cable/DSL would be.

Have you added any new wireless equipment? (Baby monitor, 2-way radio, garage opener, cordless phone, etc.)

Concurrent wil all this, something is resetting my trackpad settings back to default on every reboot. Solved this last summer by removing something from Logitech, but the problem is back now. Weird.

Internet MUCH slower than usual, responses sluggish on- and offline. System fans kick on within 2-3 minutes of startup. I've run all the usuals - McAfee, Ad-Aware, SpyBot, disk cleanup, and chkdsk. Hard boot after all that, then ran HijackThis:

Hey, I just recently moved to a new house, and since then, I've experienced severe packet loss (17%), My personal guess is that the wifi card on my laptop is dying since, before I moved I had to move the router closer to my computer for a better connection (Which is no longer possible in this new house.) This is getting extremely annoying, if anyone could try to come up with a solution it'd be great. Thanks!
Ah, and since I didn't give any information, if you require me to copy paste some information or provide a screenshot or anything, Feel free to suggest that and I will reply back with such things. Please help and thank you very much!

Answer:Extreme packet loss, internet hella slow.

Could also be the router.
Have you tried to connect with a different router? (friend, family, school, library etc.)

I've been having this very weird connection issue with my PC. It seems like almost every 5 minutes my connection is disrupted and just disconnects, and to fix it I have to re-plug in my wireless adapter (USB). I know it's not the adapter because I just bought this one five days ago (NETGEAR N600). Now the weird thing is, sometimes I can't load webpages but I get messages through Steam, Skype, etc. This is only happening to my PC and none of the other devices in my house. I tried flashing my PC's BIOS, to no avail. I don't get any useful information from Wireshark. I ran tracert and it's hopping correctly as well.
I checked the wireless map, and it goes like this:

My PC -> TERMINUS (router icon) -> Switch -> TERMINUS (PC icon) -> Internet

I don't know if it's normal or not to go to my router (TERMINUS) twice or what.

Sometimes, I can't actually tell if the connection disconnects or is just very slow. Sometimes it seems like it bumps up to 2000ms, then gives me about 20 request timed out, then it loads once more at a normal 30ms.

I can connect to 192.168.1.10 fine (my router's internal), and I get a normal <1ms.

I also get this in event viewer very frequently in System. It shows up every 2 notifications in there:

Name resolution for the name (name) timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

Answer:Internet problems disconnecting or very slow, 50% to 100% packet loss

- Create a manual System Restore point - System Restore
- Run cmd as admin (restart after command finish running, it will tell you to do so):

Code:
netsh winsock reset

Here's the basics:

Running Windows XP SP2
ASUS motherboard - AMD Sempron 2200 1.49ghz and 512mb RAM
VIA Rhine II ethernet adapter
Time Warner broadband

2 weeks ago internet speed dropped to about 1/8 the level that it had been running. Speed when D/L a file went from 180 kb/s to 25 kb/s. Time Warner came out and actually repaired some external issues, but it had no effect. They plugged into the Motorola modem with another computer, and the connection was running full speed. The TW tech ran a test through the CMD prompt, and informed me that I was losing about 40% of the data packets.

So, I ran the XP netwrok diagnostic tool after he left. It showed some failures on the ethernet adapter. I went to the ASUS website and downloaded the most recent drivers for the ethernet adapter, and I've still had no luck.

I just want to know if there is anything I can fix software wise before I replace the ethernet adapter or the entire PC.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Slow Internet - High Packet Loss (Hardware Issue?)

It certainly looks like ethernet card itself going bad.
Is it desktop?

Hi networking people. I've got a small network and recently I've noticed its been getting a little slow. Online games are very laggy/jerky, radio cuts out and page loading is erratic.

I think I've figured out its the switch causing trouble, as results from any computer beyond the switch on Pingtest.net are awful (20% packet loss, ~200-400ms ping). Anything before (eg. connected to first router) the switch is fine. Also, one computer plugged into the switch gets normal results, but with 8 devices plugged in, even though they are turned off, results plummet again.

So I'm assuming the switch (Belkin F5D5141-8, 10/100/1000, unmanaged switch) is acting up. My guess is that there is too much network traffic and old switchy is getting a little twitchy. What could it be? Should I replace the switch with a better/more expensive one? I don't really understand the difference between unmanaged/managed either.

Answer:Switch trouble. Packet loss and slow browsing.

Well, you don't need a managed switch, though the quality of that switch is certainly suspect. I'd start by replacing that with a better brand of switch, since that's the top suspect.

Hello, I have a Dell 5558 Inspiron. the internet is very slow to load. My wife has a macbook pro that runs circles around my PC for web browsing. I have tried various tricks to minimize startup functions and background apps. is this a hardware issue that can be upgraded? would upgrading the GPU, upgrading to SSD, or adding more RAM help?

Answer:slow internet loading, slow youtube response: Dell 5558

also, this unit has an intel AC-3160 wifi card. can this be upgraded or adjusted to work better?

Hello Techspot!!!!

I have had my laptop for nearly 3 years but I wouldn't deem it to be a poor performance laptop. Recently I have been getting slow internet, poor keyboard response and slow scrolling, and it is very frustrating!!! I share the BT 3 homehub with good connection speed which was checked and found fine! My housemates laptop has started having the same problem as mine and I really want to fix this issue. The internet, keyboard and scrolling speeds vary everyday but overall are slow performers. I have looked through some of the threads and have seen people posting long threads of code etc :/ Is there anyone out there who has the time and patience to help me fix this problem? It would be most appreciated!!!

Many Thanks

Dan

Answer:Slow internet, poor keyboard response and slow scrolling problems

First, get us

make/model of all PCs
of the internet modem
and any extra router attached.
Is this a rather new ISP for you and/or are the PCs newish or older ones?

Did you every have good response? HOW long ago?

I believe my problems all started when my wife tried to open a video sent to her by a friend on Facebook. My computer is dragging and my internet connection is inconsistent. I'm receiving an SVCHOST.EXE error refrencing "0XFFBADD11". On my wife's sign on there is no internet connection, which I've tried to repair the connection. The internet connection list won't pull up on her sign on. I also keep getting notices from Spybot of registry changes.

So far I've run CCleaner to work on my registry, Desktop Doctor, Comcasts version of McAfee, Spybot, Windows Defender, and AdAware. AdAware is the only one that found anything and I quarantined it. Since then my ability to access the internet has improved on my sign on. I just downloaded HiJackTHis and below is a copy of my results.

Can someone please tell me what my problem is and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks,
Will

I am having a great deal of problems with my computer running slow, cpu maxing out and continuous IE errors and shut downs (of IE). I've attached a hijack log and would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Yesterday I rebooted to safeboot and ran SDFIX, Malwarebytes, ARO, Microsoft Safety Scanner, Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool and PC_Cleaner_Pro. Basically every cleaning tool I have loaded. Not sure if I'm just running too many things.

My Antivirus tool is McAfee.

I mostly use my computer for email, facebook and facebook games. I have a lot of problems with games either not loading or locking up and shutting down IE all together.

Attached is my hijack log.

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

What you really need to tell us is what kind of ISP service you contract for. Also, what do you get with a wired connection to the router?

Hi. I'm a new user to the forum. I found the link from Spyware Warrior. I'm currently having very slow internet access through my cable modem, and I think I might hav some spyware on my PC. I'm running Windows 95 (I know, I know - I'm going to be upgrading soon, but I'm not there yet). Anyway, I have SpyBot S&D on my PC and have run it and cleaned evrything it found. I don't have Ad-Aware, as it requires Windows 98 :-(I ran the free check on SpySweeper's site and it listed the following programs: Comet Cursor, Cool Search Hijacker, Ehttp Hijacker, and Hiwire. But I don't know how to remove them. Can someone please help me clean my PC?I just downloaded and ran HijackThis! and here's the log file:Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 9:33:16 AM, on 3/29/2005Platform: Windows 95 a (Win9x 4.00.1212)MSIE: Internet Explorer v5.51 SP2 (5.51.4807.2300)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KERNEL32.DLLC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSGSRV32.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MPREXE.EXEC:\PROGRAM FILES\NORTON ANTIVIRUS\RTVSCN95.EXEC:\PROGRAM FILES\NORTON ANTIVIRUS\DEFWATCH.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mmtask.tskC:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSWHEEL.EXEC:\ACS495\MIXGHOST.EXEC:\PROGRAM FILES\THRUSTMASTER\COMMON\TMDEVMON.EXEC:\PROGRAM FILES\NORTON ANTIVIRUS\VPTRAY.EXEC:\PROGRAM FILES\SPYBOT - SEARCH & DESTROY\TEATIMER.E... I recently cleaned up my "Start Up" items (this may or may not be associated with the problem I am having - may be coincidental). No viruses, Firewall at Medium security, SpySweeper in operation. 512MB RAM. XP Pro. Working on Cable Modem.

Pages are either VERY slow to load, or will not load at all. Often I must Refresh to get a desired page to show up at all. Many pages will not load at all. "We're sorry but the internet contant you selected is not currently available" message is common.

AOL loads, however slowly. IE is also slow loading the "home page". Going from either home p[age to through a link is a tedious process (including even bringing this form up).

Any ideas as to what the issue might be?

Frank

Answer:Slow Internet Response

First, have you tried powercycling your equipment (like your modem and your router)? Basically you would want to turn both off (if you have a router) and then turn back on your modem first (allowing it to remain on for about a minute) and then turning power back on to the router. Many times speed issues can be correctly by this simple process.

Also, if you have only been using IE then you might want to try clearing cookies/cache/etc if you haven't already. Go to your Tools menu at the top of your screen and go to Internet Options. Depending on the version of IE you have you could see different things like the option to "Delete All" or you might see separate buttons for "Delete Cookies" and "Delete Files". Either way it is a good idea to clear both of these up.

You could try downloading a different internet browser like Mozilla Firefox from getfirefox.com just to see if it's something with the program or not also.

Also, I would run some speed tests to see the speeds you are getting. Especially it might be a good idea to run a speed test while your firewall is on and to run one after you have disabled your firewall. Speed tests are available at:
speedtest.net
speakeasy.net/speedtest

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

I'm sorry, I don't know the proper protocol. I have a topic posted in the forum "Internet Response Time is Very slow", and I was advised to follow the "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log." As instructed, I have performed the following steps (numbers correspond to the Preparation Guide)3. I ran a disk cleanup. Webclient/Publisher Temp files will not clear, but the others have been cleared.4. Ad-Aware and Spybot. Ad-aware just had a couple of cookies and a couple of MRUs. Spybot said "no threats". 5. I didn't run Housecall as I didn't want to install Java. Panda: I guess I can't figure out how to run it. This is the third time I've tried, and although Task Manager applications says it's running, Processes shows system idle at 99 or so. It runs for a couple of hours but does nothing. BitDefender ran and showed no problems. I ran Kaspersky, and it shows no problems.6. McAfee Stinger detected 2 files: C/Download free keylogger described as Adware-Url.gen. I don't know what those are or if they deleted them. The instructions say put a check in the box fy "Auto Clean". but I couldn't find such a box. I looked for C/Download on my computer system and could find no such creature.7. I did not install a firewall other than Microsoft yet, as when tried it I had all sorts of problems. A different story for a different day, and I shall install one later.8. My Microsoft Windows is up to date.9. Here I am... Read more

You could test your phone line. Grab a phone and plug it into the phone jack you use for your DSL modem. Press any number to get rid of the beeeeeep so all you should hear is silence. If there are any sounds coming down the line other than almost perfect silence then you should have your line checked out.

I have an 8 year old laptop with an inter celeron chip 1.6 ghtz, 1 gb of RAM. I am currently running IE9 with Vista service pack 2 installed. Internet page loading is tardy to say the least. I also have a works laptop, again quite old, with an intel core 2 duo (1.66 ghtz)with 2 gb of RAM and this runs fine using the same BT wireless hub.
Is my 8 year old laptop just too slow?, CPU usage goes up too 100% when accessing pages but goes down to 2 - 5 % once in idle mode.I can't see anything in Task Manager that might be slowing things up
I have Microsoft Security essentials installed dual core
Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Answer:vista IE9 and slow internet response

Check task manager again and see how much memory is used with the browser you're using. 1GB ram is a bit low for Vista.

My internet access (both Firefox & IE) suddenly got very slow on my Win7 computer. I held out for a couple of days hoping it was temporary. I thought it might be an msn problem because I 1st noticed it in hotmail & about the same time my Windows phone failed numerous times to download an app. I seem to remember once accessing an site that had a list of current/active msn problems; sometimes only in certain areas. Or was that Verizon?

Today I called Verizon & spent 1 1/2 hours with a tech who seemed to know even less than me (if that's possible). I became afraid that following her directions would make things even worse, so I discontinued the conversation.

Accessing hotmail.com just now gave . . .

I've got one heck of a problem with my computer running EXTREMELY SLOW!! The problem started small, i.e. taking about 5-7 minutes to boot-up, and gradually worsened. It now takes about 30 minutes to boot-up in "Normal Mode". This started about two weeks past, at which time nothing unusual occurred. No new programs loaded. Spyware/Adware and Virus scans are negative. HDD temp. is about 113F. CPU use seems to be normal. However, a "Memory Meter" shows that the memory maxed-out frequently when attempting to run any of a number of programs! On rare occassions, runs fairly fast (at speeds that I would call normal)!! ALWAYS runs fast when booted in "Safe Mode" - which I'm using right now! Only problem in "Safe Mode" printers are not available, and some other programs will not run - apparently a LOT of drivers are not loaded in this mode! The Task manager shows a LOT of processes when the computer is operated in "Normal Mode" and perhaps half as many in "Safe Mode". I've run every kind of test that I can think of and can't seem to pin down the problem!

The fact that the computer runs faster in "Safe Mode" vs "Normal Mode", would seem to indicate a problem with memory - - but if that were the case, why then does the computer, all of a sudden, speed up (although, as... Read more

Hey, this is an issue that has always bothered me, and I'm wondering if someone around here can help. I consider my machine to be pretty fast (see specs at left), and when I'm just using the OS without any apps running, everything is essentially instantaneous. Except for 'My Computer'. When i open this window, Windows has to think about it for a good 3-5 seconds before anything appears in the window. I think its because i have 2 optical drives and 2 emulated optical drives, but with 2 GB of RAM I dont think this is a valid excuse. Is there any way to get windows to show what it has recognized already without waiting to hear from the cd\DVD rom drives?

Answer:slow response from 'My Computer'

Are there any discs in the optical drives?

I wrote about two weeks ago about my computer acting very sluggish while on the internet and I was told to defrag and delete the contents of my temp files for the Int. Explorer. I did all of this and it seemed to work for a few days and now I am back at the start.
I am running a Pent. base computer with 32 meg ram and a 4 gig HD that is 1/2 full.
My computer is non responsive for about 1-2 minutes every time I click on a link or try to open a program from Windows. The hard drive runs for a couple of minutes and then shuts off until I click on something else. I am on a DSL line too so that is the pits when I am trying to surf the web.
What else can I check?

I'm not sure what's wrong but it takes like 1 min to open a document, or to start up a program. I'm not quite sure how to fix it, because I'm not quite sure what's wrong.

It started happening like a week ago... So my computer didn't start out like this.

My computer specs are:

2.40GHz Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo
with 3.00 GB of RAM

I ran a registry cleaner (more specifically RegCure) but it didn't do a thing (that was noticeable)

I ran Spyware doctor and Zone alarm (virus and spyware) scans with no virus or spyware located, so I'm completely out of answers. BTW I'm not that versed in computers.

So, any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Hi All

I'm having a bit of an issue with the computer. When browsing things just aren't very responsive and it takes time for click to take effect if you understand. In addition to this in general the computer seems a bit sluggish to respond even when just using MS word or excel.

I have seen people advised to download and run hijack this which I have done but for some reason it won't save the log file.

any suggestions?

I recently ran an adwcleaner scan and Malwarebytes scan and it found several items ( over 20) to be deleted. I may still have the logs available to post if needed. Neither of these programs had ever been run on this computer before. While the speed increased some, I am still having some issues logging on to the Internet some and email issues. I am concerned I might still have other unwanted programs installed that I did not find.

I am working on this computer for someone else so I already know there are some redundant security programs on this machine. Any suggestions on what to clear off would be appreciated as well.

Have run:
Avast Antivirus - nothing found
Malwarebytes - nothing found
Super Antispyware - found 3 tracking cookies - removed
Eset - nothing found

ATF Cleaner used weekly to clean off unecessary files

Alright so here is what I have been noticing.

On a Windows XP Pro machine. I double click on the "My Computer" icon and the it takes probably about 10-25 seconds for it to load and display everything. I notice that if I switch to my account and I click on "My Computer" icon it opens up pretty quickly with no hang time. This has happened on several other Windows XP Pro computers and I can't seem to figure out what is wrong. I have tried REgistry defrags, virus scans with a cocktail of virus removers, registry optimizers.

Now next in line is trying the XP CD and do an OS Repair but I want to know if anyone out there has found the solution that doesn't take so long for it to be fixed.

My computer is not running Norton. Im using Panda. The other computers are using norton. I mention this because other posts say its norton. However, I have to reiterate that when I swicthed user accounts I could open my computer fast and I was running norton.

Thanks everyone in advanced!

Hi,

My notebook response has been so slow for the past 2-3 weeks. I don't remember installing any harmful software before the problem began.
I am running on Vista Home Premium 32-bit with 4GB RAM.

This slowness happens to me no matter if I am connect to the internet or not and also in safe mode. However, it does not occur all the time.
For instance, I could begin typing this post normally but there is also time period when it takes about 5 seconds for the letters to appear on the screen or when I scroll up and down or open a folder in windows explorer. This lag time happens to all of my office applications, IE, windows explorer or even when I right-click on the desktop screen while there is no other application running at all.

I tried running online scan, e.g. BitDefender, ESET and some of the free malware programs like IObit Security 360 and Malwarebyte's Antispyware but found nothing. I also have Symantec AV installed since I bought this computer. I know this is quite heavily loaded but why my problem only just occured recently.

I also tried disable a few start-up programs in msconfig but to no avail. I have run CheckDisk and even tried to restore my computer to period when I am sure this problem has not occurred to me, but still my computer is still slow.

I suspect that my notebook is infected beyond my little knowledge to solve it. That's why I am here asking for your help.

I noticed that in IE 11 on Windows 8.1 that there was this slightly perceived typing lag when entering text in fields displayed in the browser. This lag would not be present in Chrome, Opera, and others... so that's what would make it noticeable. When you type fast, it is most noticeable, but not so bad as to obstruct typing or create errors.

However, now in Windows 10, the lag has increased. Painfully so. I find that with my typing rate, the keyboard input cannot "keep up" and I lose letters! I'd have to go back and correct works due to missing letters. I've resorted to keeping Textpad open and typing all my text there, then copy/paste into the browser fields. The different is very noticeable.

I've searched around and found a few scattered tips about dealing with this, but nothing seems to help. I have to believe there's a setting SOMEWHERE that is responsible. Or... is this a byproduct of Microsoft key logging?

Answer:Slow typing response in Internet Explorer and Edge

NOTE: I had this problem on build 10240, and still having it on 10568.589. And it's NOT a problem in other Microsoft products like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc. Chrome, Opera, and Safari do not exhibit this typing delay/response problem. It's only IE and Edge that show it.

Hello,

I have a Gateway P-6825 laptop running Windows Vista 32-bit, Service Pack 2. The processor is T5250 1.5GHz and it has 2 GB RAM memory. I realize it's a slightly older machine and the processor is relatively slow, but it seems to have slowed down a bit in the last few months when I access Internet pages. I am not getting any signs of malware infection but I'm wondering whether it is laden with too many programs or something else. Any insight you can provide is truly appreciated.

Hello,

I am experiencing a very frustrating scenario on my machine.
It started out of the blue. I have dial up still and I hardly ever
get on the internet. maybe only an occasional Google search.
It started during a period in which I had not been on the web for at least a week.
*When I click on a folder it stalls and then opens after a few seconds.
*Videos played off my hard drive stutter.
*Startup takes longer than usual.
*Basically, any task I try to perform is stalled.

I have performed the following actions:
ScanDisk
Checkdisk
Defrag
Ran Malwarebytes in Safe Mode and Standard
Ran Super Anti Spyware in Safe Mode and Standard
Ran Hijack This
I have checked programs running on Startup and cleaned that out.
I have 90GB of free space and 1GB of Ram.

I also have done in depth research into the DMA/PIO
possibility.
I am showing UDMA 5 for my HDD, and DMA for my CD/DVD.
It never displayed PIO at all anywhere. However, the symptoms
associated with a HDD reverting back to PIO match what I am seeing.
Is it possible to be in PIO mode, even though it displays DMA?

I am at a loss for what it could be...Please help...Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Answer:Slow response time. Videos stutter. Slow startup.

This may be irrelevant but when was the last time you changed the MB battery? I have had a lot of machine and still do, when the battery is dying funny things can happen. I sure looks like you have covered all the other bases!!

My "internet" does not cut out, but browsing on web pages does (maybe just port 80 is having problems?). For example, when loading a page, sometimes it does not load and you need to refresh it several times before it does because it is "timed out". However, my connection to AIM/Yahoo/MSN is not lost, so there is not a complete disconnect from the internet (right?). I just ran a ping test (to www.google.com) for a long (unknown) period of time and ended up with these results: 4497 sent/4256 received/241 lost (5% loss). That is very bad from my understanding. Any advice or help on this?

When opening a program, buffer circle spins approx. 30-60 seconds before program opens. After prgram opens, if I click too fast on something, (not responding) appears at top next to program name/logo. It eventually goes away. When typing, there is delay between depressing the key and the letter appearing on the screen. If you've only just upgraded then Windows takes a small amount of time to index the drive, mess with .net libraries, plus a lot of other stuff. Depending on the version it also downloads the next version along with other updates. This process will slow web browsing so, as a suggestion, leave your computer idling while you watch TV, don't let it sleep, allowing it time to get stuff done.
Thanks.
P.s. What spec is your computer, how much hard drive space, do you have a whole heap of other stuff installed, what runs at start-up?

I had a similar problem a few years ago where my computer would "hang" every few moments while typing or changing web pages or scrolling down a page. Sometimes it hangs for 30 seconds or more. The last time it was a virus. I've run a number of anti-virus programs including Kaspersky, Avira and Avast. I've used Spyware Terminator, Super Anti-Spyware and Ad-Ware. Numerous runs of these programs has not solved the problem. I have not added any new hardware or other programs (besides the spyware and anti-virus). How do I proceed from here?

I've done a HiJack This scan and these are the results:

Great that I found this site!

Since two days ago I have had a strange trouble with IE 6.0: Entering data to form fields (including this message box) and scrolling pages up/down is extremely slow. Characters show approx. 2 - 5 seconds after when you have actually pressed the keys. Scrolling webpages especially ones having pictures (such as Ebay search results) is paintaking.

Typing web address on top of the screen and the connection work just fine. I have Windows ME and AntiVir 9 + Zonealarm running. I run IE's internal "repair process" but did not help here at all.

Please let me know what should I do to get rid of this trouble.

Thanks all, in advance.

My computer just recently has been running painfully slow. Boot up takes about 10 minutes while log in time has increased a little also. When I attempt to open my programs now, some wont open until 15 minutes later, after I already gave up on them; some don't even open at all. Internet explorer works but takes about a minute to load the homepage and loading times vary. Sometimes it loads quick, sometimes it seems like it has stopped responding. Sometimes explorer completely freezes and I get the "checking for solutions" message. I am really getting frustrated because I have ran all of my anti virus anti spyware, malware etc. I have pccillin antivirus, malwarebytes, ad-aware, and spybot search and destroy, all of which say my comp has 0 problems. Itunes seems to be extremely bad in loading because i can try for 30 min and not get it to load even after uninstalling and reinstalling. I also have cleaned out the comp using ccleaner and have defragmented. I am running low on options and don't know whats wrong this time. Please help!

You may have some hardware problems.*** Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic28744.html)Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.*** A. If you have more than one RAM module installed, try starting computer with one RAM stick at a time.NOTE Keep in mind, the manual check listed above is always superior to the software check, listed below. Hello,I am having trouble with packet loss sometimes at 50%, on my desktop but not on my laptop. The desktop is an AMD machine with x64 windows 7 installed. I have a wireless card installed alongside the built in Ethernet port. Both wired and wireless produce the same amount of packet loss. When I run a ping test I generally get response times of 15-25ms from Google. When I open Firefox or Internet Explorer it takes a good 5min to load the google homepage. I ran a complete avast boot scan without problems. I also ran ComboFix, the log is attached. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, ScottUPDATE: I just ran ccleaner to see if it would help. It seems to be partially working now. The problem I am having now is very slow download speeds. My upload speeds are around 2.5mb and my download speeds are maxed out at 100kb. I will check tomorrow to see if it is just a slow connection speed today. Origin is downloading an update at 15kb :/Edit: Moved topic from Windows 7 to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

I have 2 computers (say computer A and computer B), which are connected to a router then to a broadband connection. Computer A belongs to me and computer B belongs to my brother. The internet connection and LAN are very slow (pinging the router loses a lot of packets) on computer B, while computer A is fast.

We have tried changing computer B's network card, network cable, motherboard/CPU but the packetloss is still there.

I brought my computer (A) to his room, and everything works great. I bring his computer (B) to my room, and it works great! What is wrong with his computer?

Both computers are using a new install of Windows XP Professional with SP2.

Answer:Packet loss on 1 computer

It sounds like cable interferance except for the fact that your PC works fine in his room. I dunno, that sounds a bit odd that everything works just fine by moving the pc, but another pc put in the same location also works fine.

Answer:Help! Slow Computer, Slow Internet. Slow, Slow, Slow!

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

I regularly scan with MalwareBytes, ComboFix, and SpyBot. I always use "rkill" before a scan and everything seems to regularly come back clean. So far, this problem has lasted for maybe a months or two. Please help! I have enclosed my text file logs. Thank you.

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 home computer with Windows XP Home Edition operating system originally purchased in May, 2004. It is partitioned bewteen my two children and myself.

For the past month I have noticed the response of my computer when opening programs like MS Word; MS Excel; the Control Panel; Internet Explorer; etc to be extremely slow. Earlier this week, for the first time, the "Blue Screen Error" appeared with the following message. This error message occurred continually after several re-boots.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Hi,

I recently got a new internet connection after I moved from the 2nd floor to the basement. My previous connection had a max download rate of 2 Mbps, while my current one promises a rate of 24 Mbps, but the provider is the same.

On day 1, I downloaded some data for World of Warcraft patch 4.0.1 via the client, with p2p disabled, at a steady rate of 1.1 MB/s (megabytes/second), which, though not the maximum speed the connection can allegedly handle, impressed me.

However, I have recently started to notice a drastic drop in download rates. When streaming videos on YouTube, the loading bar is often only slightly ahead of the playing dial, and sometimes I even have to wait for content to load on videos with very basic quality (360p). During a recent League of Legends update, the download rate read ~120 Kbps, while just a few days ago I downloaded a patch at a speed 6-7 times faster.

Also, I've been having very sporadic latencies while playing World of Warcraft, ranging from 150 to 800, but never stable (i.e. the delay from casting a certain spell was never exactly the same as that of another). But, in general, games have been unplayable, due to a predominant 2-3 second delay.

I've tried both a wireless and wired connection, but both have displayed similar results. I've checked for background downloads, viruses and firewall ports, but everything seems to be in order. Nobody else is using the connection; wireless is password protected, and the router connect... Read more

Hello, I just recently (last week) built a computer. I am currently using a year(ish) old Belkin N150 wireless adapter, as my motherboard does not have built in wifi. My download speed is significantly slower than my girlfriend's laptop, and sometimes ping tests show up to 75%-100% packet loss (it's kind of off and on, seemingly random). I've tried fixing the issue on my own to no avail. I'm really far away from the router, but I don't think it's an issue because it consistently says I have 3-5 bars. My next step is to purchase a new adapter (this one seems pretty cheap). It may also be an issue with an "network icontrol" feature on my motherboard. I'm gonna go through this thread and throw all the information from ipconfig and ping tests in here. I would really appreciate any help at all, I'm not very good with networking... at all ;.; thank you!!

Edit: Router serial number is 10a10c6b230553 and the modem s/n is 214775451

Hello,

I am having issues with my internet. When I do a test on pingtest.net I get 4%-90% packet loss but when I do the same test on other computers in my house they get 0%.

As I'm a gamer this is a huge issue because I experience exactly (I have experienced EVERYTHING in this description)

"Much as it sounds, if you have anything less than complete success in transmitting and receiving "packets" of data then you are experiencing this problem with your Internet connection. It can mean much slower download and upload speeds, poor quality VoIP audio, pauses with streaming media and what seems like time warping in games -- your connection may even come to a total standstill! Packet loss is a metric where anything greater than 0% should cause concern."

What ive tried thus far and didnt work:

Malware scan
Uninstalling firewall
uninstalling antivirus
I have used wired and wireless connections and still getting the same problem
FULL scan for viruses etc
used win 7 troubleshooter-doesn't have a clue
I will admit I have torrented before (I have stopped now) and I used to get 500kbps down on bittorrent then I think plusnet(my ISP) somehow caught on and stopped it then I got 0.4 kbps...
Maybe something to do with that has caused the issue.

The computer is...old. Around 5 years. Hardware/software-wise, it's pretty clean. Win XP Pro. The only questionable prog installed was AOL, which will be further explained. The NIC is 10 mbps, but that doesn't matter.

One day, around...say...a month ago my mother turned on the computer and she noticed she couldn't go online. We just switched from a DSL connection to a cable connection, but everything was done through a router, so no changes to the internal network. I looked at it and quickly determined that the computer wasn't getting a valid IP address from the router. It was giving itself one of those 146.95.*.* IPs...

Oddly enough, doing an ipconfig /release gave an error like 'no applicable media adapter connected' or the like, whille doing a /renew just crashed the CMD window. Doing these functions from the Network Connections and properties windows had the same results.

Honestly, I had no idea idea what it was, but I've had a hate for AOL for a nice long while. I decided to disable all of the AOL services and after I killed the AOL Connectivity Service, it got an IP and everything was fine. I disabled the Service altogether after that.

Fast forward 3 or so weeks and the computer starts loading pages sluggishly. Yesterday, my dad finally complained since it is used as a work computer technically. Apparently, it's getting around 10-20% packet loss when pinging the router.. Between it and the router there is around 100 fe... Read more

EDIT: More info. I tried setting it to take an IP from the DHCP and giving it a static one. Same results. NetBIOS is enabled. Router in question is a WRT54G. It's working perfectly. Whatever the NIC is will be updated in 9 or so hours when I get home.

Also, I know this is retarted, but is there anything like an ethernet to USB adapter? Hopefully cheap if existant.Click to expand...

I would start wityh the NIC. The NIC sounds like it's older than the PC.

Yes they do make USB to Ethernet devices. I cary one around with my for just such a case, and they useualy can be found pretty cheap. Maybe something like this.

Or if you need one today.. Compusa has them

I've had some annoyance for quite some time when trying to work with folder and files through Local Disk Explorer or My Computer. Folder contents take much longer to display than they used to. If I click on a folder in the left side of the window, the contents of the folder (files) flash briefly, then disappear. In a few seconds they slowly reappear, one by one. Files are also slow to open. For example, an OTF Font file may take 15 to twenty seconds to open in FontView (it used to be almost instantaneous). Drag and drop also seems delayed. I've hunted the Internet for help and tried many tweaking advice suggestions, but nothing seems to help. I'd like to know what the problem might be and if there are possinbly any fixes.

My System - HP Pavillion 750n, 1.6 GHZ Pentium4 processor, 768 MB SDRAM, 32 MB graphics card and Windows XP home ed. as an OS. I bought it used and did not get any disks with it, so I can't re-install any system thingies if something gets messed up. I run Computer Associates Spyware and Antivirus scans regularly. Update and immunize with Spybot about once a week and do a scan once a month on average (it takes almost 2 hours to scan with SpyBot). I've given up on getting MalwareBytes to update and I've also uninstalled AdAware months ago which REALLY bogged down my system. I also have the CA firewall. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've tried unplugging and reseting my modem, shutting down my firewalls, clearing my cookies ect..with no luck.

I'm trying to connect to www.syrnia.com , it was working one minute, the next not so much. I can still access it through my iPhone. I've been accessing it for years from this PC with no issues.

Upon pinging it, I get "request timed out". No one else seems to be having issues accessing the site.

I've also tried: netsh int ip reset reset.log and netsh winsock reset catalog,

any suggestions?

Hi The computer that is slow is a desk top tower. In a home. it is a E machine.
it has windows 7 professional with service pack 1
DO KNOW : I am very new to windows 7 and all it's features.
When I brought this computer home last Nov. it was lightening fast at everything! so much better than the windows XP it replaced, I was thrilled. yet Now starting in April 2015 it is as slow or slower as my old Windows with XP ever was ( and partially the reason for saving my pennies to get this windows 7 computer)...and now I'm upset. feeling like I have been taken.

Computer displays the following :
3.8 windows experience index
Intel pentium dual 2.0Ghz processor
64 Bit

Has Ccleaner installed
has Comodo antivirus and Comodo cleaning essentials installed.
All virus scans find no infections, and report that all is well and protected. ( B/C of the way the computer is operating i'm doubting that and betting there is an infections of some sort)

I Have run Comodo cleaning essentials and results find no abnormalities or infections.
Have run TFC and JRT and the computer shows no signs of improvement.
have run rKill and it finds no abnormalities or infections.
All virus scan results find no infections.
Windows updates is activated and all latest updates have been installed.... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 computer suddenly slow to get on internet, slow to browse websites etc

Hi flywelder Maybe we aren't looking at an infection here. There's tons of reasons why a system can slow down, and not all of them are malware related. Let's try to take a look at this issue under another angle shall we?MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:List Installed Programs;List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;List Devices - Only Problems;List Users, Partitions and Memory size;Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Please copy/paste the content of the output log in your next reply;

I am having a nightmare with my windows 7 64 bit home edition. It is running extremely slowly. I have lost the internet connection and the windows firewall has turned off and cannot be turned back on. Whenever I boot up i get the message "failed to connect to a windows server" The event viewer log is also unavailible.

I have established that my internet is working on other machines. I have also attempted to reset winsock in safe mood. However this has not worked.
I've had the system for about 9 months with no major problems. I have McAfee and have run windows defender and adaware so I am pretty sure it's not malware. I really need some assistance here. Thanks

Answer:Windows 7 running very slow, loss of internet, firewall down.

I suggest getting malwarebytes and doing a full system scan just to be sure it's not an infection. The symptoms point to a possible infection, do a scan anyway to be on the safe side, never hurts. It's highly recommended, free and trusted by many users here. Other than that, might be something that you've installed. Any new and recent updates?

I was playing the Overwatch beta over the end of last week and the weekend and had no real problems with connectivity to the game up until Saturday. The input lag and rubberbanding was getting so bad and I couldn't figure out why.

Went to pingtest.org and let the test run about a dozen times or so, changing the server each time. According to it, I would always have somewhere around 20%-40% packet loss, ~50 ms ping and 0-5 ms jitter, which is obviously not good. I have had absolutely no luck in resolving this on my own.
Here's what I have done in attempts to resolve this issue.

Network adapter driver re-install. Problem persists.

Tried a different wireless network adapter. Problem persists.

Tried different USB ports. Problem persists.

Booting into safe mode. Problem does NOT persist

Connecting through ethernet. Problem does NOT persist.

Using other wireless devices on same network. Problem does NOT persist.

Directly pinging router through cmd. No packet loss.

Directly pinging Overwatch Server (37.244.0.3) through cmd. No packet loss.

Disabled client-side firewall and retested. Problem persists.

Tried firing up Black Op 2 to check playability, since Overwatch is still in beta. Terrible rubberbanding and latency.

Went through this process to check in the off chance it could be a virus or malware.

Tested both network adapters on other PCs on the network. Couldn't recreate the problem.

I'm at a loss. Not even my Pin... Read more

Hi, I play a game called Tactical Ops (It's a game with low requirements like CS1.6). In my old computer I didn't have packet loss, ping or lag issues. Now I bought a new cpu and my ping it's going crazy. In 10 seconds change 4 ou 5 times. Now I'm playing with 200, 300, 400 ping. In my old computer I only had 30 ou 40 ping. I google it and didn't found anything to solve my problem. I didn't try other online games but I'm guessing I'll have the same problem.

My old computer :
- Pentium 4 1.3ghz
- Graphic Card (Onboard) 64mb
- Sound Card (Onboard)
- RAM 512 ddr
- XP Home Edition

New computer :
- Motherboard : M4A785TD-M EVO
- AMD Athlon II X4 2.6ghz
- Graphic Card - ATI HD 4670 1Gb DDR3
- Sound Card (Onboard)
- RAM 2GB
- XP Professional

I use cable by the way. I think I'm not having problems in other programs that use internet like mozilla or utorrent. They are working very well.
Btw, I don't know if it helps but my game is playing like 300% of speed in single player and if I go to options, game speed = 100%. If I reduce to 50% my game still works in 200% speed.

thanks

Answer:New computer; ping, lag and packet loss problems

This might be caused by your cable modem or routers settings. Try resetting the router to its default Cable settings. Did you apply all the new motherboards drivers and install all the Windows Updates

Less than a week ago, I used Control Panel to disable Google Chrome automatic update checking & installations. I did this because Chrome sometimes automatically checks for available updates and ties nearly all of computer resources while some unknown process associated with Chrome occurs. I thought this was because of the automatic update checking and installing, which why I turned this off (through Scheduling Tasks, in Control Panel.)

Just a couple of hours ago, I fresh-started the computer (Windows XP, s.p.3, 2.0GHz processor, 512MB RAM, Norton Internet Security 2011, Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 7.01, Google Chrome (belief up to date, 15.0.874.121 m)), visited internet using Internet Explorer - NOT CHROME - and had not yet even opened chrome during this user session. A few minutes after the internet usage, the computer became suddenly very, very, very slow, and Norton File Insight indicated high memory usage from Google Chrome. It reported "setup.exe" as the file causing this. I clicked to see where file is this was file, and after maybe 5 or 7 minutes, a folder opened in response indicating C:....CR_2D830.tmp\setup.exe.

When the Chrome business finished, apparantly not accomplishing anything that I could tell, computer responsiveness returned to normal.

I just wonder, is my computer so affected not really well suited for Google Chrome Browser? Also, must I completely uninstall Chrome in order to make sure this unknown process regarding Chrome... Read more

Answer:high memory usage, google chrome, computer SLOW response

Uninstall Chrome if it bothers you that much. There seems to be a new version of Chrome weekly so it's something that comes with the territory.

Make sure you didn't accidentally bump a cable when you went in there to change the RAM. Make sure every cable is plugged in securely on both ends, when applicable.

The computer is running XP with all updates. It will not connect to the internet, says it is missing a DLL. Cannot copy any of the software suggested on this site by downloading on another machine and pass it to the infected machine as PASTE does not exist. There are no msgs or other signs of malware (like Security Tool)

So, hello. I ruled out malware pretty early on, but I'm not an experienced expert, so I figured I'd give it another shot. I really have no clue what the problem is.

Running a Toshiba Satellite L755D laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium. Everything is out of the box except for a less-than-year-old 1 TB HDD.

Symptoms:
- Computer takes a while to startup once Windows takes over. It takes maybe twice as long to get to the desktop than it used to, and then it may take a few minutes for me to actually be able to do anything.
- Once it has started, applications tend to be sluggish, unresponsive, or even crash (only one to do so is Windows Explorer. Twice.). Typing is at normal speed, doesn't seem affected.
- After startup, it's not always consistent. Like, as I type this, for instance, it seems okay.

Troubleshooting:
- Malwarebytes, Avast, MSE, Spybot, and AdwCleaner all returned nothing malicious. I ran Rkill before hand. Only active anti-malware is Avast. I use the other two for second opinions.
- HDD is not fragmented, and dskchk returned nothing.
- sfc /scannow did pick up on a couple of things, but the computer was still slow upon reboot.
- Nothing unusual hogging system resources.
- Computer is not overheating
- I run CCleaner fairly often, and there is still a good ~300GB left on my HDD.
- I've tried disabling unessential things that run on startup. Nothing changed.
- I've tried system restore. After the restore, I get th... Read more

I got a:

PCI-E Wireless 802.11n 150Mbps Network Interface Card

So It somewhat works but only a 2 MBPS download speed I know that my wireless network gives off 30 MBPS as my old external wireless USB was getting, but that is broke.

With that broke all I have left is the internal card with slow speed, Unable to render youtube in HD.

Windows shows the internal card has a strong connection of full bars but still slow speed.

Tried updating drivers for it through device manager but none available, So why is it so slow?

P.S. There is room for 2 antennas but having the 2 in makes no difference as It still works with 1, strange.

Answer:PCI-E internet card not working well, Slow speed / Connection loss

Still got the issue , Tried Uninstalling the device and detecting the device again , result = Still slow

Tried looking for new drivers = none found

I was browsing around on the internet about 24 hours ago until my computer unexpectedly restarted. No bluescreen, just shut off and turned right back on. After about 5 minutes of skyping and browsing after it had restarted, overlapping audio ads were playing in the background. I closed all unnecessary programs. Eventually the audio stopped, but since then I've had iffy internet. I pinged a couple of websites and saw some packet loss, and made a HostMyCalls ISP test and it's showing stable/normal ping, but occasional packet loss. YouTube videos and GIFs won't load at all, sometimes pages like gmail or google take a while to load.
Thank you in advance for help!

This is my first time posting a question on bleeping computer. We are so thankful that you are out there to help us and not rip us off. I think my computer is infected. My desktop starts up very slowly, my internet connection is slow (it's slow in pulling up websites and some never come up). I'm getting lots of pop ups (even though pop up blocker is enabled). When I go to open the control panel, a flashlight pops up as if it is looking for it (it eventually does open but it takes a while). I had a problem at one time with a lot of POS.TMP files and followed advice from posts on this site to get rid of them. Well, my current problems started when a friend downloaded a music program. I believe it was called Soundman. When I noticed the computer acting funny, I went into the control panel and deleted it along with some other programs I found (PPC Booster, P2P Max, Ron Tool Adsoftinc, Wyzo, Eco Bar). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Hi there,

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:
Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt

Hello, my computer has been extremely slow on boot and my desktop has been hijacked with a message about changing it to a website. I also have a program called "error fix" showing up on my desktop and I have no idea where it came from. I've run Malware Bytes twice on the computer with numerous problems found. After running it the second time, I got a message saying I needed to run CHKDSK which I ran. Also, my internet is running very slowly and I just got a message that says "A program on your computer has corrupted your default setting for Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has reset this sietting to your original search provider, Live.Search (search.live.com). Internet will now open Search Settings, where you can change this setting or install more search providors."

Here is my Hijackthis Log, if you need the MBAM logs, please let me know and I will post those as well.
