Google redirect, slow internet browsers, slow computing

Question: Google redirect, slow internet browsers, slow computing

Hello all,
My computer has recently become infected. I've scanned with Malwarebyte's Antimalware, Norton Internet Security, and SuperAntiSpyware. Norton didn't show any results, but Antimalware and Superantispyware both removed a decent amount of items, however I do not think my computer is entirely clean. Whenever I open Firefox, if it even opens, all of my google searches get redirected to different sites. The only site I remember being directed to was zanuga.com, but there were others. This also happens on IE8. I've tried opening Firefox in safemode, and I get the same redirects. I've posted my HiJack This log below.

Oh, and also, I've noticed the creation of HelpAssistant and HelpAssistant.desktop folders in my Documents and Settings directory.

Happy Holidays,
TRBMan

Preferred Solution: Google redirect, slow internet browsers, slow computing

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Google redirect, slow internet browsers, slow computing

update:
spybot took care of my browser redirects, but my computer is still going very slow and often crashes whenever it is working under a more than moderate load.

I have malwarebytes which runs twice per day, but picked up a bug that redirects any search wth the word 'google' in it, to some wierd sites.

Downloaded the free version of AVG and Superspyware remover and neither detected nor fixed issue.
Found this site and appreciate any help.

Hello everybody and thanks in advance for your help. I'm Italian but I could not find an Italian Hijackthis log analysis forum. Everything started last christmas when I got the Italian police virus (basically a window that popped out everytime i turned on the pc, blocked windows, falsely accused me of crimes and wanted me to pay 100 euros to an account). I managed to remove it in a very naive way becauseI really need this computer for college. After this removal the virus deleted all the shortcuts in the programs folder (the one you go to from the start button) also everytime I search for something on google I get redirected to other sites. From 2 months or so my internet slowed down to 56k speed (actually the speedometer says I'm fine around 3000kbs) but internet usage is extremely slow. What should I do? I'm posting my hijackthis log.

So my Internet is fine, my computer is what is the problem (I tested my Wi-Fi and connectin on several other computers and they worked just fine). Sometimes it's just incredibly slow and sometimes it just won't load any page, even if the bar connection on the bottom right of my screen is fine. Also, when I click on Google/Bing searches, I end up getting ads pages 99% of the time. Sometimes it will redirect to the right site but very rarely.

Thank you in advance for your help

If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Hi, this is my first post. This site seems to have a very effective and helpful community.

The following are my symptoms: Google Redirect, Audio add popup, slow computer, security center will not update.
I am on XP professional, and I use firefox.

I have tried fixing with avast, malwarebytes, and ad-aware.
Someone on the following thread recommended comboFix
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Web%20Search/thread?tid=6df7e15519290612&hl=en

I ran comboFix, browsing was fast, and without symptoms for about 5 minutes. But all problems returned except the last one i mentioned (security center will not update).

Thanks for you help
**just noticed the guideline: do not run combofix unless requested to

I'm posting this on my boyfriend's behalf. He recently started having problems with his internet redirecting him to other sites when he'd click on google links (this only happened some of the time). He would run virus scans (superantispyware and avast, at separate times) and both had found trojans and removed them but it would keep coming back. Now they're finding a few different ones, and one that seems to be a trojan generator. Now he's unable to open any links I give him on any of his 3 web browsers (chrome, ie, and firefox). Malwarebytes won't install on his computer (it says it's already installed, but he's sure he uninstalled everything from the last time he had it and it didn't work). So far, these aren't affecting his computer as a whole, just his internet, but we're worried it's going to start soon. I can't give any logs, because I don't have physical access to his computer right now. I'm just hoping someone can aid me with advice on what he can do to remove this. I've seen a lot of threads on here about google redirects, but there don't seem to be many answers. I thought maybe he could search through his computer for any suspicious files, because obviously whatever is continuing or redirecting these trojans isn't being caught.

If anyone can be of any assistance with the information I've given please do so. We've been sitting here for hours trying to get rid of this a... Read more

Hello,- Recently, whenever I click on a link through a search engine (usually Google), I am redirected to a different website 2-3 times before I can finally reach my desired website- Typing in the address into the address bar directly usually works, but for some sites such as facebook, a blank loading screen appears forever- Also, my mouse pointer ALWAYS has a hourglass next to it, I can still click/access everything- When I restart my computer, during the desktop's loading an error message (usually) pops up saying: An error has occured with licy.exe, asking me to send or don't send this error reportI've run spyware programs and Hijack this, but I thought I should seek professional advice from the forums before I started fixing/deleting things myselfThanks in Advance! Hi there

Redirecting issue again I'm afraid. Google redirect most sites, specifically ones that are to do with virus removal. I can usually access these sites if I go in via the ?cached? option but then can not use the links within the page.

I?m not sure its related but I got a few flash player errors when I wasn?t using flash too.

When I tried to use GMER I could not make it run. Investigations on the GMER site helped me run it and pointed out it could be something called a Gromozon Trojan.

Hello, I am trying to clean up my sister's computer for her. Running Windows XP (Media Center Edition, 2002, Service Pack 2). Before I started, you could not open any programs, there were pop-ups, random spyware, etc. I have run Malwarebytes, Super Anti Spyware, Spybot S&D, and Avast! anti-virus. All four of these found many things wrong and I followed the instructions and remedied the found problems. However, even after doing this stuff, I still have the following problems:

-the Internet will periodically slow to a near stop even though the connection is fine. I can't load pages. Then it'll work for a while, then it'll slow down again.
-Now, *after* performing the above mentioned steps, I am getting redirected on Google searches
-Now, *after* performing the above mentioned steps, Antivirus Antispyware 2011 has been popping up randomly
-Any external devices, such as my harddrive, will get a single file put on it (once it was myporno.avi, once it was shortcut to Google Chrome)
-Occasionally, when restarting, the computer will fail to start. I can't start in anything but Safe Mode (and sometimes that won't even work)
-Also, and these might not be actual issues, but I cannot open Google Chrome or Photoshop at all (photoshop stops on the "initializing tools" part). Also, I seem to always have 13-15 svchost.exe running, and this seems a bit high to me.

EDIT: I guess I should mention that twice now, I've gotten the "No Audio Devi... Read more

I use Chrome and of course my laptop has IE. Last night Chrome started going slow; it would only load some pages, codes to the page would come up and some pages wouldn't even work. I tried IE and it did the same. I got up today and it was doing the same thing. I was able to look it up and someone had told someone else to uninstall bonjour. Since I had that on my laptop I uninstalled that and than my browsers weren't even getting net. Since I don't have Windows 8 disk and my computer isn't backed up I knew I couldn't restore the whole laptop. So I restored it back to Thursdays date. It seem to help because now my laptop is fine. I just don't know if this could happen again? Right now I'm running malewearbytes in full scan, it's been going for four hours and so far no threats. Does anyone know what it could have been? Could it happen again?

Even as I type this there is a delay between when I type and when the actual text appears in the box. This has become incredibly frustrating, nevermind the fact that I was gone a week and my family managed to **** up a computer I've been working to manage and keep alive (as it's fairly old, but still useful). As the topic says I have some sort of virus (I assume), the main symptoms are that my search browsers (I have been using firefox, google chrome and IE) often dont work. They will not load new pages and then I end up just switching between the three trying to get one that works. This has become very frustrating so I decided to try and do something about it. I have noticed that when I can get a browser working it is often extremely slow. This was a drastic change as about a week ago I had no issues then all of a sudden it seems like it is almost not working at all. I have had one instance were I was redirected to a page telling my computer was infected but other than that there have been no pop ups or other instances of redirection. I have also had some issues with computer running slow and requiring a restart but the main issue is with my internet browsers. I am running a 64 bit windows 7 version so I did not do the rootkit section of the guide posted on these forums.

Hopefully someone can make sense of this and give me some advice and how to manage this as I need my computer for university studies. Any help is much appreciated.

Windows XP 2002 user here. I have used Firefox as my main browser for many years, but when I upgraded to version 6.1 a couple of weeks ago, my PC started to get really bogged down (I have a DSL connection) when surfing and websites that always worked in the past began to not load properly (bogged down, blank graphics and pictures etc). Also the last few days, when I try to maxamize a video on YouTube, the screen goes black but the audio will play (in the smaller window, the video works fine) which has never happened before.

I went back to Firefox 5, I tried Opera, Internet Explorer and even Maxthon 2.515, but nothing seems to improve the slumping performance and aforementioned issues.

I went through the READ & RUN ME FIRST STEPS and the scans came up clean except for one trojan on the Malwares Bites scan (which I quarantened and deleted)

. . . and

while the MGtools program seemed to download OK (I got no warnings or alerts that it wasn't loading and loading properly) when I try and run the program from the MGtools.exe file, the black scanning screen onl;y appears for a split second before it dissappears and I can't file any log file in the C drive which matches the names of the log you need to have attached.

So I'm attaching the logs from the other four processes to see if there is anything more to be done.

Thanks again for your help and tutorials.

Please try it again now. There was a problem with the last file. I has been updated to correct the problem. Download and run the new MGtools See if it makes the MGlogs.zip file now. Thanks!

Hello,
Everytime I turn on the computer and I open an internet browser, either ie or ff, it seems that it takes sometime for my internet to load. My brother's computer doesn't have the same problem with his internet so im guessing it is not our internet connection. I suspect it was from my cousin who recently downloaded some weird file and the my anti-virus found that there was a trojan in it. Here are the logs I got. Thanks in advance.

Hi there, I believe I have some malware, I'm having some trouble with my internet connectivity. Download speed is fine and everything works, just very slowly. Accessing sites and fully loading them can take up to 1 minute. The status bar shows the IE or FireFox hanging on address looking up. Almost instance access and no hanging when looking up or resolving hosts.I've run all the spyware/adware programs.AdAwareSpyware S&DA-SquaredI've been through MSConfig and disabled programs on startup I don't need.I'm running XP, SP3, Avira Anti Vir, Windows Firewall. Here's my log file......Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 18:20:15, on 29/11/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\Windows\System32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\EvtEng.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\S24EvMon.exeC:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\AAWServi... This is a strange problem.
Whenever I turn on my Vista: Home Premium laptop, after everything loads, I open up my browser (Internet Explorer or Google Chrome or Firefox)
I have to wait a minute for the webpage to load...
After that, everything runs smoothly.
I got a window registry software but it didnt fix it.
Antivirus scan shows no virus or spyware or anything.
What could be the cause of this?
It's an annoying problem.

Hi,

I've recently found my browser running extremely slow and taking ages to load pages. I'm currently using Flock as my browser of choice but it is the same in F.F and I.E. I have not been doing anything unusual and cant think of any reason for this to occur.

I'm running Vista home premium SP1 on my custom built PC which includes 320GB western digital HD, Nvidia Geforce 7600GT, Intel Dual Core 4400 @ 2GHz and 2x 2GB ram (i think)

I've attached the required attach.txt and ark.txt files as a zip as required and below is a cut and paste of my DDS.txt. I would be grateful for someone to look over things for me. Just to let you know I am a complete novice when it comes to this so any instructions needing to be followed would be good in idiot proof format.

Thanks in advance, Neal.

Hi guys,

Since a few weeks google redirect about 50% of the time when I click a link. Also, when I do a search, google takes around 5 secs to react.
At that time I used malwarebyte and emsisoft antimalware (A squared) but it didn't solved the problem.

Hi BleepingComputers

When using firefox, I get occasional popups and in general it is just very slow. It crashes often and lags excessively when streaming videos. Edit: Pop ups just recently started popping up at an annoyingly fast face today even when I do not have the browsers up. I do not know the full effects yet but it seems like after turning on the computer today, the problems got a lot worse. Any help is appreciated.

I redone my system and did new install with AVG antisoftware, Spybot and
Malwarebytes software. I have not had any malware, antivirous problems but it
seems like Internet Explorier or Foxfire browsers are slow to pull up webpages
and slow to scroll thur. Is the my antivirous, etc software causing this or is
is something else going on? I think internet explorier is a little worse than
foxfire browser.

Hello everybody. Well, I've come here for assistance. I'm not getting my hopes up because with this forum obviously you can't see my computer so there's millions of reasons this problem could be occuring. so Really do I expect to be able to fix this FREE? Not really, but you know why Give up when GIVING UP just shows people that "I GIVE UP TOO EASILY." I gotta fight until I either get this fixed or I get a new computer. OK My question.

I have a Windows 7 computer. It is HP. We all know HP Rules because they make the best when it comes to medical equipment. Like the patient monitors and the defibrillators? I happen to love HP VERY much. My question. OK MY INTERNET BROWSERS ARE ALL SICKENING SLOW. Chrome, firefox, I:E ARE ALL SLOW JERKY and have slow response times. ESPECIALLY ON YouTube. Don't even get me started on trying to explain it is on there. OK. Its been slow and last week I uninstalled Google Chrome my main  way of using the Internet, MY DEFAULT as you might say. I reinstalled it. Now the Internet browsers went from SLOW TO SICKENINGLY SICKENINGLY UNUSABLE SLOW. If I get on YouTube Its IMPOSSIBLE. My simulators that use Adobe Player are impossible to use. Most of everything else offline works well decent. THE INTERNET?? It has good strength, I have fast Internet connection. BUT IT IS VERY VERY SLOW. I've deleted so many programs and I have 595GB I think or maybe MB. I'm too lazy to look at the units. But anyhow, I've done everything. Restarts, threatening ... Read more

Answer:All Internet browsers sickening slow jerky and I NEED HELP.

Generally, if you have a program that you didn't intentionally install, and it's telling you there's 1000's of errors, it's most likely lying to you.
If you'd like to solve the problem for "free", there several great applications on this website to attempt to do just that.  From the download section, I'd grab AdwCleaner, and Malwarebytes Anti-rootkit. These two have generally served me well in the past and continue to do so in the present. Sometimes the biggest challenge has been getting to a point where the computer will allow the files to be downloaded.  You may get redirected, or have files download that you don't intend. Pay attention to the file dialog when you're getting the files. They are not named with a generic "setup.exe", so if you get prompt to save or run "setup.exe", you've been directed elsewhere, and are probabaly just getting more malware.

Hey,

I've had this whole Google redirect thing that's been going on for a while. My puter's slow too, but mainly it slows down after I open up a browser. (Chrome's bad, but Firefox is ridiculous.) I notice that things across the board get extra slow after I've been through some sort of google redirect.

It's starting to get ridiculous man, any help you can throw my way would be amazing.

I ran DDS and GMER, this was the DDS output:

Hello;

While searching the other day, I seem to have picked up some sort of virus or malware which causes my google results to be hijacked to some obscure search page when I select and click on one result on a google search. I haven't tried this on other search engines at this time, but with Google, this happens about 60% of the time. I have also noticed that my McAfee is no longer updating properly, and started to notice also that my computer is running more slowly and even occasionally freezing up.
I have tried multiple times to find the problem using Malwarebytes and AdAware, and recently tried using SpyBot Search and Destroy to see if anything came up, but none of these has turned up any suspicious files.
I ran a HijackThis scan and have attached the log I came up with just a few minutes ago. Please help me - I'm so tired of this.

Thank you,

momo

Hello ohmomo ,This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. If McAfee gives you any problems, you may have to temporarily uninstall it. For some reason, this is common with McAfee. 1. Download this file - combofix.exe http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe 2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please.Note:Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall. If you have trouble running it the first time, then rename ComboFix.exe to ohmomo.exe and try again. Thanks, tea

Hi-- I'm hoping someone here can help me out. About two weeks ago, my google searches started redirecting to random links instead of the ones actually listed on the google results. I had this problem about a year ago and was able to solve it by running a variety of anti-spyware/anti-malware programs. So, I tried to run Superantispyware. It would not open. I would click on it, get the little "thinking" hourglass, and then nothing. I also was unable to run Malware Bytes Anti-Malware. After some searching around (and reading on this site!), I was able to download the portable version of Super Antispyware and get it to run. It found lots of adware and then a couple of other things (one had trojan in the name), but I still had the Google redirect problem. Next, I read on here to rename my Malware Bytes file and then try to run it, so I was able to run Malware Bytes Antimalware by renaming it. It found trojanvundo and a backdoorbot and removed both of them. BUT, I still have the Google redirect problem AND now my computer is not starting up properly. Sometimes after start up, no programs will open at all. Sometimes, programs will open, but it won't recognize my wifi and I can't get online. Sometimes, it will boot up OK, but the google redirect problem is still there. So, where do I go from here?? Thanks in advance for any help! --Katie

Answer:Google Redirect and SLOW start-up

Please follow these instructions: How to remove Google Redirects or the TDSS, TDL3, Alureon rootkit using TDSSKillerDouble-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. When the program opens, click the Start Scan button. If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.Ensure Cure is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process. <- Important!!
Note: If 'Suspicious' objects are detected, you will be given the option to Skip or Quarantine. Skip will be the default selection.A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.-- For any files detected as 'Suspicious' (except those identified as Forged to be cured after reboot) get a second opinion by submitting to Jotti's virusscan or VirusTotal. In the "File to upload & scan" box, browse to the location of the suspicious file and submit (upload) it for scanning/analysis.

Hi,

My computer has the google redirect virus and runs very slow. Often it will lock up when going to an internet site or direct you to the wrong one. It just recently changed the wallpaper to one asking me to download virus software. I?ve run Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials but have not been able to get rid of the problem.

Any removal assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Dan

PS ? When starting the computer I get the message below:

Error loading C:\WINDOWS\pspsx32.dll

Hey. I've had a lot of trouble with Google redirect for a few months. I find that once I am redirected my computer slows down significantly. My computer has been slow recently anyhow, but I find that even opening Chrome slows me down a lot, but after I'm hit with a redirect I usually have to restart my computer altogether.

Any help you guys could lend would be amazing.

Hello. So my problem started about 2 weeks ago. I posted a message at that time but haven't had time to act upon it.

So I have some type of virus or malware that is constantly redirecting google and making a lot of anti-malware programs nonfunctional or uninstallable. I finally managed to run a new version of adaware and removed 4 hits, but I've had no change in function. Computer is also super slow. I'm currently in safe mode. I'm also getting a weird system error popup message stating something about having "the maximum number of secrets set by the United States Department of blah blah has been exceeded."

Here is my DDS log:

Hello and welcome. Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I?ve given you the ?All clear.? Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean! Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within five days this thread will be closed. P2P - I see you have P2P software (uTorrent) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to malware infections. Please see this post for more information. I recommend that you uninstall these now. You can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs. If you choose to keep these applications, please do not use them until our fixes at BC are complete. Please download Rootkit Unhooker and save it on your desktop.Disable your security programsDouble click RKUnhookerLE.exe to run itClick the Report tab, then click ScanCheck Drivers, Stealth Code, Files, and Code HooksUncheck the rest, then click OKWhen prompted to Select Disks for Scan, make sure C:\ is checked and click OKWait till the scanner has finished then go File > Save ReportSave the report somewhe... Started a few weeks ago. Have been running mbam which will find them and remove. A few days ago "Whitesmoke Translator" showed up on my desktop. Mbam found files and removed. Got a clean scan the next day. Yesterday, a few hours after running a clean mbam scan, "update.exe" appeared on desktop. Description said it was "executible for purble place game." Mbabm scan found it and removed - I wasn't even on the internet in between the clean scan and when the "update.exe" appeared on the desktop. System is running incredibly slow. Task Mgr. said yesterday that CPU usage was 100%. Random IE pages will open whenever, and I get redirected every time I click a link from a google search. I'm able to go where I want as long as I type int he page address.

I have all the mbam logs if needed, and I have HJT.

Getting an error everytime I try to paste in my dds log. When I go to "submit post," I am immediately redirected to the "ie cannot open this page" page. I tried attaching the file and I get the same message.

ark.zip is attached under the thread "test thread" and the system will not let me attach it again.

Please advise.

Answer:Slow processing, google redirect, etc

Attach the DDS.txt in your other thread, please. Zip it if need be. Infections sometimes have this affect.

Hello and Welcome to Bleeping Computer!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At t... My daughter's computer has come to near crawl when using windows iexplorer. Google chrome is not much better but its allowing me to post here. I only have one google chrome browser open but the task manger shows 8 seperate chrome.exe process...maybe this is normal?

When browsing it takes anywhere from 45secs to 1.5mins before the page loads so that the scroll bar can be used. My son's Ipad and our desktop computer work just fine on the same internet so we are sure the router/isp is not the problem.

When using google and clicking on links in google the browser redirects to some other site. Please help me fix my daughter's laptop and keep it from becoming a block of concrete that belongs at the bottom of the ocean.

Good evening,

I've been having issues with all browsers since a recent re-install of Win 7 Ultimate.

I've never had browsing issues before, and recently installed a new MB & RAM because my adoring nephew decided he wanted to 'fix' my front panel USB sockets with a screwdriver. Bless his cotton socks, and he's still alive but managed to fry everything else.

Since my install I've painstakingly re-installed everything from before and sat through a couple of years worth of updates, yet my browsing capability is no where near what it used to be.

All graphics, videos, Ads, particularly in Face Book, BBC iPlayer, You Tube and miniclip are very slow to load - even general web page load up take 6-10 seconds to fill all the page images.

I've run countless AV's, Spybot, Stopzilla in standard and safe mode - installed firefox tweaks to load pages quicker, checked to make sure my drivers are up to date, but no avail.

Please could I call upon your expertise to help me return my browsing enjoyment back to normality?

Thanks & Best Regards,
Chris

I was using Cyberfox/Firefox & opened too many tabs & not only did my browser crashed, but it gave me the blue screen of death.
Afterwards when it was rebooting, it said some thing like something was changed or altered. I didn't write it down, but it now affects all my browser use.

When I try to open any browser, it's at a snails pace.
It'll take about a minute for Firefox or Cyberfox to just load google.com or bing.com or anything.
At times, it'll just stall & crash & I have to restart my PC to get out of it.
I have to use safe mode to be able to open it at all & even then everything still loads at a snails pace.
I also used other browsers too & they all exhibit this as well.

Opening my task manager it shows this

Good Morning,

I am finally getting around to fixing a problem that has been going on for a while. After downloading and removing some unfortunate malware/virus a few major issues started to occur on my Windows 8.1 machine with 8GB ram and an i-5 processer and integrated graphics.

1. All browser open very very slow. It takes a good 45 seconds for a new tab to open up, another minute to make it to any website (even www.google.com). Once they are open I can switch between tabs at a mostly normal pace
2. In the tile screen typing any search is slow. Not anywhere near as bad as the browsers, but it still should be quicker.
3. Google chrome doesn't allow me to install adblock through the app store. It says network failed.
4. I can't flush the dns on the computer. This is a new one for me. I tried fixing it this morning by making sure the DNS service was running and by checking the host files, but nothing worked. I still get “Could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache: Function failed during execution"

What have I tried so far?

1. Malwarebytes
2. CCleaner
3. Windows defender
4. Checking startup processes and running processes to check for obvious issues.
5. I have a hijackthis log, but haven't posted it yet.
6. Uninstalling the internet browser programs as completely as I can.

This computer should be waaaaaaaay faster than it's running. I have periodically sat down and tried to figure it out over the last couple of months and I am stuck.

Answer:All internet browsers extremely slow after malware removal

Now that you have properly posted a malware log topic, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.
From this point on, the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRT Team member is already assisting you and ... Read more

I'm experiencing unusual increased time in Windows startup, but the main issue is with the browsers that are showing strange behavior, especially Firefox. All of a sudden Firefox and, to a lesser degree, Chrome and IE, would freeze for several seconds and sometimes a minute or 2. I also experience temporary disconnection from the internet. Usually this is temporary, but sometimes I have to reboot my router and modem.
Yesterday I had a BSOD and I had a chance to take a picture of it that I'm including in attachment here.

Thanks for all your help!

Good evening! I have a brand new computer that suffers from Google Redirect. I use Bing as my search engine since I'm pretty sure the Google Redirect virus wants to send me to some malicious sites. Firefox seems to be cursed with this nonsense.

I tried logging into my ID theft website and it took a suspiciously long time to load. I tried scanning with Malbytes as well as TDSS Killer and Microsoft Essentials and nada. This is actually a brand new computer less than a day old so there isn't anything on this computer. It's loaded with HP bloatware though. Not sure if that led me to the virus.

I installed Java and I know that bad boy gets exploited, but I need it to run Blackboard/Elluminate. I had major problems running it at first and then after it worked fine, I noticed the Google redirects. Not sure if it is related or just simply causal.

Here are the files.

I'm suffering from an extremely slow computer running XP. McAfee says there are no viruses, but after realizing all my Google searches were going to a redirect and using another computer to search for that problem, I was led to you with hope that you can help cleanse my computer of the redirect virus.

I've followed the "First Steps" page, and have attached two files (zipped) and copy/pasted the DDS file below, in hopes that it will yield a clean computer. (Actually, I don't know if they have been attached, as it says they have, but don't show up. Oh well, I'll try anyway. The browser has closed on me twice already, so I'm going to post this quickly, if possible. )

Thanks,
Peter

Hi there,
The other day I discovered that links in google (and any other search engine I tried) were pointing me to unusual sites. I managed to find information and think I have the google redirect virus. In addition the computer has been running particularly slowly for the past couple months, and exceptinally and painfully slowly since this redirect problem crept in. I am running Windows XP and have run malware bytes anti-malware, mcafee virus alert and ad-aware. Each one found different viruses but none of them have fixed the problem, and the computer is now so slow to use that it takes minutes to load anything or for a screen to appear when you click on a window or file or anything.

I don't know if anyone will be able to help, and I don't even know what sort of logs or anything to send through. I have noticed that in the processes there are at least 10 or so svchost.exe instances running that take up a lot of memory, and explorer.exe seems to have jumped up to a very high number as well.

Any help you can provide will be much appreciated! Thanks.

Cheers,
Lara

Chrome started redirecting to searchresults.com over a month ago, and it kept coming back no matter how many times I deleted it from options: manage search engines. I ran AVG, Superantispyware, Spybot and Malabytes antimalware, and assumed if it was a bad virus these would have removed it. Stupid (
My computer has started behaving strangely in the last week. The internet has got very slow. I had a failed Windows login attempt that threw up the error message 'insufficient system resources'. However it logged in ok when I rebooted. I was unable to download the dds file from your site - my computer just doesnt do anything when i click on that download link. I managed to download combofix, the defogger and GMER fine. I ended up getting the dds off another computer and USB sticking it onto this one.
We also have this problem on another computer in the house, but I will add that as a separate post to save confusion as it is a very different system.

Hi - you guys were very helpful removing the google redirect virus from my work computer, now I need your help doing the same from my home computer, which also has a google redirect virus. Had the IE and Firefox redirect issue. Cured them with TDSKILLER, then ran MBAM to make sure no traces were left.

While surfing/youtube/music files on Windows Media Player, or anything really the CPU usage is at or near 100% and video and music is really choppy. Overall performance of the machine is really diminished. I'm not convinced the bug is gone. What do I do?? Please help.

Answer:google/firefox redirect... GONE but pc still runs slow.

Welcome to MajorGeeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Please follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and then attach the requested logs to your next reply when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes, you could use a flash drive too, but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
If you cannot seem to login to an infected ... Read more

First of all, hello all and thank you to whoever decided to start this forum. I've always been able to fix any malware problems until now, and am relieved that there is a site that can help me.

Okay, so about a week ago, I downloaded an "extended evaluation" copy of Audio Record Wizard v3.99. Not being very wise, I ran the program without running it through a scanner, and got a message about a specific DLL being broken. I ran to Google to see what the problem was, and surprise, I had a Google redirect virus.

I tried running Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware, but was denied by it not opening at all, not even an error message. So I jumped to Spybot S&D and ran a scan. A couple things showed up, but my problem persisted. When the two programs who never let me down failed, I turned back to Google and painfully copy and pasted links that turned up as I searched for help. Eventually I found a program called ComboFix that I installed and ran.

After that, I tried Google to see if it worked again. It didn't on first inspection, it re-directed me, but if I clicked back and then clicked on the same link, it would send me to the right page.
I then tried Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware again. It worked, and removed some files ( I'm going to start saving all my logs from now on), and the problem seemed fixed. After a couple of days, my computer started to slow down, and Google is redirecting me again. I've just run ComboFix, allowing Google to semi-work, and have found this website... Read more

Hello! This is my first post here and I am very frustrated with my computer. I use Firefox as my browser and have had a couple of problems with it recently. First, 75% of the time, when I click on the link to a webpage of Google search results, I get redirected. Second, I don't really know how to describe it sometimes, when I load a webpage, I will get this weird version of the page. It wont have any of the normal graphics or the normal wallpaper. It will just be a white screen with bullet points of each link that the page and I would have to refresh to get the page back to normal. Third, this is a resolved problem but I figured I should mention it anyways. When I was using Firefox, when I when to a different page, like from a book mark, or even just typing the web address in, I would get a "Firefox cannot connect to server" problem. But, when I refreshed the page around three times, it would go back to the page.My computer is also VERY VERY slow! It is a VERY old computer, though. I believe the computer is anywhere from 7-10 years old. I have given it a face lift to make it look like vista but other than that, it operates on Windows XP. I have just recently cleaned all the dust from it, and I have seen a little boost in speed, but not by much. Also, I do multitask on it a lot and I play a lot of online games like MMORPGs on it. I also use a lot of tabs on Firefox, the normal amount of tabs on one window at a given time is around 5-7 tabs. Also, I cannot... Read more

Hello,
In the past few months my computer has become very slow, especially when it comes to browsing the internet, regardless of the browser. In addition, whenever I use google, I get re-directed to random webpages. I have attached dds.txt and Attach.zip with this message, and I don't think I have a windows install CD readily available.

Please help and thanks very much in advance!

I have a Dell Latitude D510 laptop running xp wiuth service pack 3. Firefox and IE8 was becomming less stable to the point it was unuseable. I had deleted both firefox and explorer, not at the same time, and reinstalled them - no change. The restore points disappeared. I know I had restore on and don't know how it got deactivated. Did a scan with malware and spybot - nothing found. With both browsers not working I looked at XP as the culprit. Repair did not work on my XP own disk (not a specific dell disk); the option was not available when the install menu came up.

Only a few programs on the laptop, I ran the install. Restarting windows, there was no drivers for the network and a couple others were missing. Dell had several drivers for my model and spent days deleting and reinstalling drivers until an internet connection was made. Upgraded from IE6 to IE8 but things were still not smooth. IE would hang up and I saw no pattern. IE had a message that a repair was needed and to click on this link. It downloaded Microsoft Fix It which didn't run.

I installed a trial version of TuneupUtilities 2010 about 10 days ago, since when Iíve encountered masses of problems with my five-year-old laptop, which had previously been working pretty well!

The laptop is an Acer Ferrari 400 Series; AMD Turion 64 Mobile; 1.79GHz; 1.00GB RAM; running Windows XP, SP3. Itís been happily running with IE8, Firefox 3.62 and Google Chrome and all the latest Windows Updates. Protection includes AVG 9.0 Free Edition, ZoneAlarm (version 8.0.298.000), Spyware Blaster 4.2, SpyBot S&D 1.6.2 and SUPERAntiSpyware 4.34.1000.

Iíve run AVG scans in both standard and safe modes, plus a SpyBot scan and then an ANTISpyware scan Ė nothing dangerous was flagged up.

I can send and receive e-mails totally fine with Outlook Express and I can also listen to music on Spotify with no problem whatsoever.

However, persistent problems encountered are as follows: Windows Update fails to run, Firefox hangs on navigating to any second site, Google Chrome hangs and wonít update to latest version (ďUpdate server not available error: 3Ē), all browser Internet connections are extremely slow, major time delays in booting and shutting down (previously they were both pretty prompt), canít download latest AVG DAT files.

I also have Secunia installed, but now it will only run as far as about 90% of the usual scan.

I uninstalled IE8 using Revo Uninstaller but Windows Update still fails to run and doesnít prompt to run the necessary Active X control Ė Iíve trie... Read more

Hello everyone.

Currently, I live in a college apartment that has internet for the building. Not that many people are here, so I figured it would be okay. Here is a speedtest:

As you can see, it should be decent. It IS decent when I'm browsing the internet..facebook, email, youtube, etc.

It is also fine when I am downloading files.

But when I play games in Steam, it is very slow. When I search for servers, the pings are all 1000+. When I join a game, my ping is 500-600 and it's unplayable cause of how jumpy and choppy I am.

The thing about this is that when I download steam updates/files, it downloads at regular speeds!

How can I fix this? What settings do I look at? I've heard of port forwarding and things like that, but I am not sure exactly what to do.

One huge detail: This very same internet used to run the game fine, as well as World of Warcraft (I haven't tested that game with the internet now since I quit a while back), but there was a huge power out, power went out for 5 days, and now it's running slow.

So anyway, any help would be appreciated. Basically, why are games running super slow when everything else is pretty good?

Answer:Internet working fine in browsers, but in Steam games? Slow

Hi all, I have had this problem for about a week now, but it has gradually worsened.
As the title states, my internet is extremely slow, and I cannot load certain content heavy pages such as fileplanet.com, gamershell.com etc.
My laptop (Xp) is wireless, I have tried direct connection to the router to no avail.
My dad's desktop (Xp) is wired, and also has the same problem.
My mum's laptop (Vista) is wireless but works absolutely fine (posting this off of her's)
I am running Zone Alarm, have done multiple scans with AVG, Ad Aware and Spybot with no improvement.
I've tried using open dns, and flushing my dns.
I've cleaned up my temp files and cache.
I should also mention, downloads are completely fine.
It's JUST the browser.
At one point I had two instances of rundll32.exe active at once, but only one seems to be running now.
In safe mode, guess what! Everything is dandy, so it must be program related, and I'm guessing a problem to do with something within Xp.
I saw on one forum someone reporting that there was an unknown process checked in msconfig and some dlls in the system32 directory with a similar name, upon deletion of them all, the problem was resolved, alas I cannot see anything like this.
After searching ALL over the internet and seeing many people with the same problem, I have found no resolution, someone please help me out!
Anything would be much appreciated, I'm losing it over this one.. hope the info is specific enough for ... Read more

Answer:ALL internet browsers are very slow/cannot load some pages. Very specific problem.

Peerguardian seemed to be blocking most of the access to sites such as fileplanet, and Avg Web Shield was massively slowing down my browser speed.
This does solve the problem but leaves me a bit less secure.

clicking on Google links redirects me to ad websites, but pasting the url from the search result does not. Firefox is running very slow and I often get the error message that the connection to the server was reset while loading the website. I'm also getting popup tabs, it happens infrequently and doesn't seem to be connected to any particular website. I ran a Malwarebytes scan three times, the last two times it came back clean. these problems don't happen every time I'm online, but since my antivirus and Malwarebytes aren't finding anything I'm not sure what to do

Thanks to all that take a look and try to help.
Computer has been progessivly running extremely slow, starting up, loading programs and just doing anything on the internet.

If I am in google things will be redirected. Any other website I get alot of pop ups every now and again.
Ive seen alot of "my.freeze.com" , "net assistant" "w3i" or "credit companion" all things I know I didnt install and know its malware.
I've tried to out smart it by running lots of spyware scans, and delete any and all registry lines that have any of those names. Also by manually deleting any file I thought was malware related.
All of which has had little to no effect, infact when I think i may be getting closer by the time i restart the malware just reinstalls it self and embedds it self even better, lol.
I did read the "read this before posting" I think i added and attached the files that was requested.

Let me know if I didnt post correctly. Thanks alot everyone, i really really appreciate any help.

Hello,

My name is Aman and I'm trying to fix my parents CPU. They have a tendency to download a lot of crap without first checking that the source is legit.

The CPU runs Windows 7 64 bit.

The specific issues are when Chrome or IE are being used. The browsers are always redirected to searchnu/406. I have changed the start page back to google and that works at startup, but when a new window is opened it goes back to ask.com. I have also noticed that pages are regularly not loading fully and it takes 3-4 times hitting the reload button to finally load, sometimes they don't load at all. I am also noticing that the internet connection seems slower than before (they have ATT DSL) and the cpu in general is running a bit slow.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Aman

Hi, I've been having problems for the past week when using Google to redirect me to the desired website. I've been sent to many random websites as opposed to the one I want. This is happening on both IE and Firefox. Yahoo search engine works fine so I've been using it lately. Also, many times my computer will momentarily freeze when trying to close pop up screens. Only way I can close them is by "end task" in the task manager screen.
I've have downloaded Malwarebytes but it will not open for me. I've also used Ad-Aware/Windows Defender/AVG but nothing has fixed the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The following are my symptoms: Google Redirect, Audio add popup, slow computer, security center will not update.
I am on XP professional, and I use firefox.

I have tried fixing with avast, malwarebytes, and ad-aware.
Someone on the following thread recommended comboFix

I ran comboFix, browsing was fast, and without symptoms for about 5 minutes. But all problems returned except the last one i mentioned (security center will not update).

Thanks for you help
