Preferred Solution: comp giving me issues big time being slow HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Toshiba satellite 205 laptop, running Vista Service Pack 2 It is running slow, occasionally freezing for 15-60 seconds, "blinking" and then resuming. It is also giving me run time errors and now when I type, the keyboard is not typing all the letters I hit.

Thanks for your help,

Internet Explorer runs painfully slow, some random pop-up windows at a low frequency. Firefox seems ok. Overall slowdown in computer performance.

Ctrl+Alt+Del shows Iexplorer.exe running with High Ram usage all the time.

Hi, I am having all sorts of issues with my computer after downloading a new version of Yahoo IM a few months ago. I reversed it back to the original one I had and the problems weren't nearly as bad. Then recently they came out with a newer version and being the genious that I am I downloaded it and my computer went nuts. I have Panda Software(pd version), CCleaner(free version), and Max Registry Cleaner(pd version). So here goes, my internet is incredibly slow (I get tons of "page can not be displayed") when I try to do two things at once, ie. run IE and MS Excel. I had a trojan a while back that Panda would recognize but could not erase. After running every fix-it program known to man and using much of the information from this site, I was finally able to get it off and Panda even showed it gone. Now, I am getting a hi-jack message from Panda on a pretty regular basis. Yesterday when I got up I was having all sorts of problems, so I uninstalled the Yahoo IM all together, then ran the programs and thought I had in cleaned up. Then, last night Max Registry had over 200 items on it to erase (many high level threats). CCleaner after that found a few bad ones as well after Max Reg.This morning again I got a message from Panda that it was blocking a hi-jack attempt and it has been catching stuff many times a day now. The registry was full again as well even though I cleaned it last night with Max Registry and CCleaner and I wasn't even online overnight. So, I finally fig... Read more

Hi,
I am using Nokia Lumia 720. The results are the best so far.
However today I started facing following issue.
It is giving me the message 'Slide down to power off' automatically in regular intervals without clicking any button.
When I slide down it should shut down and stay shut down till I start again, however it is restarting automatically and again flashing the same message.
The middle button is not working for me.
Can anyone please advice me what can be the solution for this ?
Regards
Aaswad Waghmare

Answer:Nokia Lumia 720 Automatically giving message time to time 'Slide down to power off'

Seems like the power button is stuck. If your phone is still under warranty, send it for repair. If not, try removing the battery cover. then turn on the phone without the cover installed.

My other comp was working fine, but there was a spark in the power supply but it was still working for awhile, except I'd have to fight with it to get it to turn on. So I bought a new power supply, much stronger than what it was before, changed all the memory as well.
NOW... it turns on, but the HDD doesn't spin or anything, and when it finishes loading past the bios and all that, all it shows is a black screen that says "boot error, please insert system disk and retry" and when I install my winXP cd, it loads enuff to get to the screen where i can choose to repair or install anew, and when i choose either it says that windows cannot detect a HDD.

What could the problem be ?

Answer:Second comp is giving me problems too, help !

Hard drive

your hard drive is probably ruined. You could make a reformat disk and see if you can reformat the hard drive to get it to work. But it probably was damaged by the spark. The reformat disk can be found somewhere on the internet.

Answer:Comp giving code 10 no matter what.

Hiya Norm,

sorry to be of little help but I am having the same problem with the internal wireless on my VAIO PCG-SRX87.

If its of any use to you this problem seems to be a right old grmelin and I've been digging up solutions all over the place (sadly, none of which work for me but there seem plenty of success stories out there).

I have a MagicJack. The software is designed to prevent my computer from sleeping, sending it into away mode instead, but I want my computer to sleep anyway. What's happening is my comp turns on for scheduled virus scans, defrags, updates, etc and then stays on all night.

I don't want to turn my comp off at night, because I often have Media Center set to record, and I think MC can only wake the computer for a scheduled recording, rather than turn it on entirely.

Any thoughts on how to make windows ignore MagicJack when checking for activity? I'm running Windows 7 Professional x64.

Thanks!

Answer:An application is giving my comp Insomnia

I have discovered that my comp is waking randomly, not just on schedule with virus scans, etc. Raeding some of the discussion here Sleep doesn't - Windows 7 Forums, I think that changing my power settings may resolve some of my early-morning wake issues, MagicJack or Wireless card related.

My question now is if Windows Media Center will continue to wake for scheduled recordings if I set Power Options > Sleep > Allow Wake Timers > Disabled & Power Options > USB Settings > USB Selective Suspend Setting > Disabled.

I would still like an answer to my original question: is there a way to make an active application transparent to my Windows 7 system, so the system may go to sleep.

Thanks!

I get bootup times of about 2 - 4 minutes, I've tried replacing the RAM, removing every USB device, running in safe mode, changing startup programs, and finally a system restore to about 2 months ago, to no avail. It happened after I installed some damnable windows updates last weekend, and as I said, system restore did not work. The first critical error is below, the rest have just been warnings.I would like to avoid reinstalling Vista if possible.

On an unrelated note, it also cannot read DVDs/CDs unless I reboot it (doesn't have the issue if it's connected to the internet).

Thanks in advance to whoever helps, I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

Answer:Slow Bootup Time/Other issues

I get a bootup time of about 2 to 3 minutes with Vista, and even with 7 as well. I would not worry about that part, though the errors may be a bit more serious.

for some reason my laprtop is running really slow when multitasking (or one tasking for that matter) i7-5500U @ 2.4GHz8GB ramGPU GeForce 840m i'm compareing it by my last laptop (HP) that was £250 crap specs ... it died on me and bought this one and oddly enough it feels slower, it takes forever to load games, apps programs etc. they run better but that is after it load is it the processor or the HDD  honestly i hope it's the processor, to much of a hassle to change to a SSD and have to reinstall windows... EDIT: currently running W10 it was the same with W8.1

Hello! For the past three months, my desktop computer has been taking about 5 times as long to start up as usual. I believe that I may have malware which is slowing the start-up and performance of my computer. Do you have any recommendations as to how I can speed up the start time of my computer and remove malware. Thank you so much for your time and consideration! I've listed my log below!

I believe that I may have malware which is slowing the start-up and performance of my computer. Do you have any recommendations as to how I can speed up the start time of my computer and remove malware. Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

I have been reading on different sites to download different anti-spyware programs. Right now I have:

1. Ad-aware
2. Spybot
3. IE Spyad w/ Zoned Out
4. PC pitstop driver alert
5. Spyware Blaster
6. ATF Cleaner
7. PC Pitstop Driver Alert
8. Hosts Xpert
9. Windows Defender

Will these slow down my system, or make it take longer to shut down and restart my comp? Is there anything on this list that I should not have? If it's not a big deal, does anyone recommend any more apps I should download or things to do to make my system better?

If I install almost all of the reputable spyware removers and system optimizers, etc. on my comp, will it slow down my system? Will there be any negative consequences?

Right now I would opt for a faster computer over a secure one, so I would prefer speed over an increased possibility of a virus, etc (still want an anti-virus though). I'd like my comp to shut down and restart quickly, but of course it's not that big of a deal.

With that in mind...I was wondering what the computer "gurus" think is the best way I can optimize my computer? If you have a lot of experience, then what would/do you do, and what do you download for your comp? What programs should I download or buy? Answer:Newbie questions. Will anti-spyware, etc. slow down comp? Best way to optimize comp?

As a rule, you use:
1 firewall
1 antivirus
* Norton is not the best program around, and it's a resource hog, but since you bought it, you'll have to live with it until it expires.
* Using more then one of each is asking for problems (conflict).
As for antispyware programs, you can have as many, as you want, however, I wouldn't use more then 2 as startups, since you want fast computer.
Your computer specs look very good, but the lower number of startups, the better (this is another thing to check).
As for antispyware, I'd keep Spyware Blaster as a startup program, and I'd add a-squared: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
You may want to run others, you have once in a while, or when any problem arises.

In addition, you want to keep your computer clean of garbage, and for that purpose, you want to get CCleaner: www.ccleaner.com

Once a month, you want to run defrag. I recommend free jkDefrag: http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/ instead of Windows defrag.

That's about it. If you have more questions, please, ask.

I know it's malware, and from reading the forums I didn't run Comboware (i think that was the name) because the previous issue involved Symantec AV protection. I use AVG, Ad-Aware and Malwarebytes on this machine so didn't use previous advice. BTW, love you guys and use bleepingcomputer all the time to check startup programs. Thank you!

I have been having a running battle with something called E2Give for the past several weeks. I have used PC-cillin and it cannot get rid of all of it. I also have used AdAware and Spybot, to no avail. I would appreciate any help, as I am getting tired of the Warning window popping up every time I go to open a program from the desktop. I have searched and found some threads about this already, and have tried some of the solutions, but got concerned when the instructions got very specific to individual files on the submitter's computer, and the advisor said to be very careful. So I stopped.
Thank you for any help you could provide or lead me to.

Answer:Vista giving me a real hard time please help!!!!

Hi ISHY,

Have you installed the latest chipset drivers and BIOS for your motherboard yet? This can sometime cause problems like this.

Is your power supply powerful enough to handle the load of your computer? Usually 500 to 600 watts is good.

Double check to see if the computer may be overheating? Usually by leaving the side of the case open temporarily as a test for maximum airflow. Clean and blow out any dust and cobwebs found.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I have tried a replacement battery, disabling apps and background usage, hard reset of
the phone. it's been sent back to the nokia repair center only to be returned and labeled as having no fault and are being very unhelpful with the issue?
I've had this phone for weeks and I hardly have used it at all, I do not drain the battery with playing games and messing around on it and I'm not constantly email and messaging as nobody has that number. The battery has been so useless I have not bothered giving out my new number until I get another new replacement mobile.

Answer:Why is my Lumia 530 only giving me two hours of talk time?

There are lots of things that can affect your battery life. If you live in or spend a significant amount of time in a location with poor cellular coverage, you're phone will work harder to maintain signal, and your battery charge will suffer.
You can also go into settings > battery saver to see if there are apps that are working in the background and using battery when you don't think they are.

Hello,

After trying to copy a image for school I get a message from ESET saying it just blocked a trojan. In the next second I get maybe 50 error-messages, the background turns black, all my shortcuts dissapears and the computer reboots. This happened after rebooting again. Now the system is more stable, but extremely slow and I get messages about hard drive and RAM failiure (I could not start the task manager before, but now it works).
Anyways, I ran some malware-removal tool and found 2 trojans, but before beeing able to remove them, the system crashed.

So I need some help here...
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Sudden Trojan is giving me a hard time

I see your log is properly posted, here, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another Malware Removal Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

Answer:Vista Giving Me Warning Of Hardrive Failure How Much Time Do I have?

Wow I wasn't aware Vista had the capabilities of doing this. IMO if you get a hard drive warning, get it taken care of immediately (backups, ghosting, etc). Can't really predict when they will fail though. SMART errors for example, may indicate your drive is failing. It may work for 5 min or 5 years. It may fail completely to the point where the system does not even recognize the drive or it may just pop an error or two up every once in a while.

If I try to launch a program shortly after Windows 7 boots up, the program will open but every time I click in the window, the screen flashes and the window shows (not responding) up top. The screen will flash again shortly and look available but again, if I try to do anything the process repeats.

I have to close the program and reopen it. Any suggestions on this?

Answer:Loading a program without giving Windows 7 plenty of time to boot up

Your best option is to cut down on the number of programs that Windows is loading along with itself. A lot of programs will help you do this, including Windows Defender (which Windows recomends for the task), and CCleaner (ccleaner.com). By reducing the number of such programs, you computer should be ready for use much faster.

Services you don't need can also be disabled to the same effect, but be careful. Disabling a critical service could cause the computer to fail.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I'm trying to run 4gb corsair dominator(4x 1gb dimms) and, I can run 2gb perfectly, no issues. It doesn't seem to matter much at all which 2 dimms I use. It posts everytime, no matter the configuration (except when I don't have 1 dimm in for each cpu.). Booting into Vista seems to be the only problem. I went through 17, that's right, 17 passes of memtest 1.70, and found no issues with the RAM itself. I can get 3/4 gigs to boot ONCE. If I boot with 2gb, then shutdown, put 3/4 in, and reboot, it will boot. However, when I restart it gives me the stop error again, no matter how many times I restart from there it gives me the error until I go back to the 2gb config. I was thinkig it might be the mobo, but it has no issues whatsoever testing/reading the 4gb config in BIOS or memtest. Even when I get it to boot, windows recognizes all 4gb and acts as if everything is grand. Is there something I need to do while booted with all 4 to get it to like it? Any help would be appreciated, this one is a real head scratcher...

Hi,
I couldn't find the solution for the following problem:
I have a software which reguires the user profile to have rights to change system time. Software is run as a non-admin user profile so software's installer should give the proper rights. Installer is run as admin. Can this be done and if it can, how it is done?

Thanks in advance,
Antti

Answer:Automatically giving rights to a user profile to change system time

Hi Antti,

i didn't get your question correctly.

What i understand is you don't want to give the access to the particular user. is that right?
For this, you can change the priorities for the user account.

Hello, I dont if this is a problem or not, but that small flag on the notification icons tab beside the clock where it shows the PC issues and asks you to solve them. Keeps giving the same issues to solve every time I start the PC. It will ask you to run system maintenance each time and ask to change settings for windows update, even though I change it every time. Its getting very annoying. And each time I run the system maintenance it will show the same problem that I have disk volume errors.

PS: Sorry if I sounded very noobish.

Answer:Why does my action center keeps giving the same issues?

If it's stating you have volume errors then that's more than likely an issue with your hard drive. You need to check the HDD with diagnostic tools to check whether there is an issue with it.

Follow Disk Check and post back the results.

Hey everyone.. i'm in need of some help.. we have an old Compaq Proliant 6000 server quad pentium pro 200's 1GB ram and some scsi drives.. running windows 2000 server and is our DC..

we had done a firmware update and it went fine.. now the issue is whenever we start the beast up it gives a couple errors..

we're not trying to do a fresh install or anything just want the system back online..

162 - system options not set

then continues on to give

Error loading Operating system
we're running out of ideas and any fresh input would help ...

tried ....
taking it apart and reseating all components
booting to winternals but when trying to put in the scsi drivers the floppy drive isnt detected
rewrote the compaq system partition
reloaded the firmware old and new (still nothing)
every time we change a setting it wont save it (thus making me think its a cmos battery issue, but volt tested the battery and it tests at 3.08v)

Answer:old compaq server giving issues

System options not set means just that...you haven't gone into the System Options and configured them correctly. The "BIOS" of those is stored on the hard disks, and needs to be configured. It may be something as simple as telling the "BIOS" what SCSI resources to boot from.

Okay, so I've been having some annoying issues on my computer, nothing serious yet but some are concerning. Feel free to ask for more info if needed.

Issue 1: I've had some jerkiness/lag and loading issues for some of the games I play, particularly Blizzard games (all of which should be well within system specs). The prime examples:

--> When I play Overwatch, sometimes character models/audio/sprays/projectiles take FOREVER to load for the first game I play after launching the program. All player models are essentially invisible, including my own (don't see the character's weapon or even HUD), and if I fire my weapon while invisible the map will react (breakable objects break), but all of the effects are invisible (if I fire a rocket, for instance, the rocket and explosion are invisible). I can still see usernames above allied players, but enemies are completely invisible. Models load at different rates (so one hero's model might load after a few seconds while the rest take minutes, for instance), any sprays just appear as the default spray (if they appear at all), and voice lines don't work. This has lasted for an entire round before, and when that happens the "play of the game" clip will often have invisible characters in it, even if they've loaded fully by the end of the round. Additionally, even once most/all assets are loaded, if I die and respawn there is a period (several seconds) where the screen is completely black even though my character is ... Read more

Dell Dimension 5100 desktop running XP Home SP3 - bought a new monitor and a week later BSOD.

I can't see how there's any relation between the 2 things, but all of a sudden I'm getting a 0X7B on boot. Investigation seems to point in multiple directions - corrupt HDD, bad driver of some sort, etc.

I booted with a Dell XP Home CD, figuring I'd run Fixboot and Fixmbr from the repair console. Wrong! I type in the R, type 1 for the C:/Windows installation, hit [Enter] for the Administartor's password,.... and get no further. In all the years I've had this tower there has never been any sort of password protection until Windows starts - then we've got email passwords, forum passwords, etc. But here I am getting invalid password returns from the repair console. I've gone into the setup screen and under Security 2 types of passwords are listed - I think one's a BIOS password and the other's an Administrator pswd. Both say Not Setup.

So I use an old Winternals CD and go to a command prompt. Fixboot and Fixmbr are not valid commands. So with the same disk I access System Restore, wanting to go back a day or so. Wrong again - no restore points exist.

Then I try a Spotmau utility CD - no Fixboot or Fixmbr there either - also no restore points.

Then I go back to the Dell Home CD, hit enter to install the OS, click on Windows Home and type R. It copies a mess of stuff, and when it gets to 100% it reboots. I do not press any key, but when it finally displays something, it's ... Read more

So awhile ago I had this problem where downloading quicktime made my Vista Home Premium after restart go to a blue screen saying some hardware has been installed incorrectly and what not. So I got a quicktime alternative from somebody on here and never though of it again. Well today I got an Iphone and it requires Itunes for certain things. SO I download Itunes w/quicktime and hope it doesn't happen again, well it did, and I still don't know what the problem is. Everybody I talk to with vista says they have no problems with quicktime or Itunes.

I have the Nokia Lumia 1520 running the most recent Windows update as well as a Lenovo Y400 PC running the same. I start my hosted network to share my internet connection and connect with my phone but sometimes it will give me an issue such as "The wifi network didn't respond" or "You could not connect to the wifi network". Sometimes it says I'm connected, but I can't access websites (much like if you were connected to a router that had not internet connection). While all theses issues persist, my PC is fully connected to the internet through direct ethernet connection and runs fine. Also a friend of mine with an Android phone is constantly connected and experiences no issues. I'm wondering if anyone else has these problems connecting to wifi with either their phones or their hosted network. I am also running virtual router software.

So I've been at this for a couple days now, and I really don't know what else I can do. I've fixed a number of other issues, such as correctly configuring the 3 routers on the network into "dummy" mode and allowing the DSL modem to hand out all DHCP and firewall tasks.

There are two camera systems on the network, a panasonic system and a Swann system. The panasonic system is designed for consumers, while the Swann system seems targeted more for professional use with 16 cameras.)

Regardless, I can view both systems on the network perfectly fine, through their respective ports (50000, and 55559, which shouldn't matter really, right?)

HOWEVER when I go to the internet, things start to fall apart. First of all, the router's remote admin server is screwing things up for me. When I enter my DSL modem's IP address remotely, it prompts me for the DSL modem's admin page login information, the same as if I was local! When I specify a port on the DSL's public IP, such as 50000 or 55559, it just says cannot connect. "Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at x.x.x.x:50000." The DSL's remote server admin program seems to be running on port 80, which is the ONLY public port that I can view as "open" from the port test websites. There is no option to disable this program in the dsl modem/router menus.

I've set up a virtual server for those ports, but obviously it isn... Read more

I can't seem to pinpoint the problem here. My computer can't seem to connect to the internet at the speeds my internet provider gives. I'm supposed to get 12 Mbps, but I only get about 4. I thought it was the adapter, but I can't be sure anymore. Before my fresh new reinstall of Windows 7, the adapter gave me up to about 11 or 12 Mbps on average. But after the new install of Windows 7, my speed dropped drastically

The same versions of Windows 7 were installed on the machine, and drivers are up to date according to DriverMax and Windows update. The adapter is the Airlink 101 Ultra Mini USB Wireless Adapter.

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it!!

Answer:Wireless Adapter is giving slow internet

Hullo all, my name is john and I am happy to have found a forum that appear to cater to hardware issues!

I won't go into too much specifics right now, but am just gong to throw out some feelers to see if anyone here can help with debugging my compaq evo (d51s p4celeron) pci issues. The machine is running debian and I have not been able to resolve issue myself after spending way too much time on it!

Basically the short of it is that under windowsxp it was not allowing pci cards to start (code 10 , device cannot start ) after instaling driver. After re-boot, oftentimes pther pci related drivers were suddely 'missing', although several re-boots would often solve that part, the actual slots could not be used. Under various linuxes, no apparent issue except that still cannot use pci slot devices, even tho logs show devices as present and 'recognized', just cannot get drivers to 'start' devices!? I am bummed right out because this is the best machine I have right now and the problems are really frusterating me!

To boot, the machine seems to run debian very slowly- the 400MHz amd I am using right now to type this out runs obviously faster, same os too (different port I guess, but still!)

I would appreciate any advice! I also have some other problems with the machine I'm on right now, but will post in other thread...cheers, jd

Answer:Malware logs, firefox freeze, comp slow, internet explorer slow

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a differe... Read more

Hi and welcome to TSF! I will say right off that Norton (aka the resource HOG) is probably your biggest issue. There are a few things to clean here though......

This took me one Google search to find:
msnappau.exe is part of the Microsoft MSN toolbar system, which initiates an update facility for the MSN downloadable toolbar. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference.

I've had this Dell Dimension 5100 for almost a year now, and everything has been flawless until recently. Now when I turn it on, it takes a long time to stop loading everything - it sits at the "Welcome" screen for 3x as long as before, then when the desktop shows up, it's only the wallpaper. Eventually the icons appear. After that it still takes quite a bit longer than earlier for the hard drive to settle down. Also, if I use standby, my computer becomes slower and less responsive (especially while surfing), eventually getting to the point where I just have to restart it. Sometimes it won't even turn off unless I hold the button down for 5 seconds. I have clicked on the "Turn Off" icon and left the house for work, only to return to the "Windows is saving your settings..." screen 9 hours later. Spyware/virus/HiJack scans produce nothing of significance. I have run WindowBlinds for months as well, with no issues until the same time recently when "the memory cannot be read..." errors started popping up. Re-install did nothing, so I no longer run it, and the errors are now gone. I'm at my wit's end. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch...

Answer:super-slow startup, slow glitchy comp

Well when you have windowsblinds using it to make you a desktop that uses up quite a bit of memory and makes your computer take a while to start up. Also you might have quite a bit of stuff in your start up. To check this click start run and type in msconfig and uncheck everything you don't need in start up. If you want to make it easier you can get a tuneup utilities trial and use the start up manager and delete any and all start up entries you don't need as well as restore them if you need them later. Also you might need to run the registry cleaner that comes with the trial of tuneup utilities. It would be easier to install it and just click on the 1 click maintenace on the desktop if you installed it and checked the option to put it on your desktop. Here is the link to it: http://www.tune-up.com/download/tu2006/ all you have to do is enter you email address and click the button and it will download. If you need any further help just reply.

My current box is:

p4 3.2ghz w/ HT
3gig 666mhz ram
256Meg ATI XL800

But heres the issue a few months ago I lent my box to work so we could run some VM's on it in our Datacentre. Now I have it back and it sounds like the fan on the GC is rattling. So most likely I'll need to get a new GC in the short term.

Is it worth it to spend more $$ on this box or just suck it up and buy a new one??

I'm sitting on the fence and can't reallly decide.

Opnions?

Answer:time for a new comp?

If the machine serves your purposes, and there is nothing wrong but the fan on the graphics card, just buy a new fan for the graphics card.

I recently noticed that the system was trying to do 7 updates every day at closedown, and found that update was giving a return code of 800736b3.

I have run SURT several times, and it doesn't seem to give any results (or should I be looking somewhere else?).

I ran sfc /scannow and extracted the results and they are in sfcdetails.txt (attached). SFC said there were some files it couldn't fix, even though sfcdetails.txt says it has fixed all of them.

CBS.zip is much too big to upload using the paperclip - is there another way?

I tried restoring to an earlier restore point, and unfortunately all the attempted updates have flushed my list of restore points - and the oldest few all give me a return code of x00000022.

Not sure if this is one problem or two...! I am reluctant to do a System Recovery as it sounds pretty drastic - help would be much appreciated!

PS Is any more info required?

Answer:Windows update giving return code 800736b3; restores giving x00000022

...which are caused by an MS update which they messed up the file-coding on and may get around to fixing sometime.
It's not critical, but you could get rid of it by uninstalling KB3022345 and/or KB3068708 and hiding the latter when it reappers in your offered updates list.

I have a few questions I'm sure will probably be pretty easy to answer but help would be much appreciated. I plan to build a computer for gaming mostly and probably multimedia usage.

1: as far as cases go there is a few different types i seen think they are micro, mid and full size. is there a benefit to each one?

2: Does size and slots on the motherboard define what case it goes in? (probably a dumb question)

3: I only have around 350$ right now to start with but plan to build over time, what order should I purchase things in? I dont want to buy say a 189$ processor now then by time the computer is done there be something 10 times better for the same price

4: is onboard graphics stupid for a gaming pc?

5: is it true that amd is a better processor for gaming?

6: What are some items that are ok to buy used, I know cases should be fine but is there anything else?

Answer:Building a comp for the first time

1. It's the size of the case. Mid towers are between full atx and micro atx and I like mid towers.

2. No most cases will take any standard ATX form factor motherboard

3. 350 Isn't alot but it can be worked with.

4. Onboard video will be horrid for gaming. It also depedns on what games you want to play.

5. Intel and AMD both have there cons and pros. AMD is cheaper then Intel. So price to performance AMD wins.

I wouldn't suggest buying used parts. Only used parts I would buy is maybe the case.

350 isn't much for a gaming pc. You may want to save up some more so you will save money in the long run. Say you build a pc now and later on down the road you want a new cpu. You may have to upgrade your motherboard and get new ram. Just my two cents

Big suggestion is do not cheap it out on the power supply. Cheaping out on the power supply can lead the problems later on and could take out components like your video card, CPU, motherboard, etc.

good luck with your build.

Hello, I have looked everywhere and tried out all the fixes I could find to try to rectify this problem. I've had my laptop for just over 4 years (a birthday gift from my parents) when it suddenly decided to remove it's activation about a month ago. I've
run the standard fix a few times that I found online in several places (including here on Microsoft [https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_install/error-code-0xc004f074-unable-to-activate-windows/239826b1-0d56-4565-baf0-8a5c407c31cc?auth=1])
but none of it has fixed this issue. When I got to the slui steps I tried both 3 & 4. The regular activation gives me the same error and the by phone activation says it's not available to activate by phone. Can someone please give me some advice on or
a way to fix this issue? I would appreciate any useful help that can be offered.

Thank you.

Hi. Just wanted to say first, Thank you! for this incredible website and the work you do. I've tried to use it to answer questions and problems I have but right now I am at a halt. My computer runs very slow and also takes about 10 minutes to load/startup and I have about 7 programs on startup. I've tried to use alot of the spyware, antivirus and optimizing software(spybot, AVG, spygaurd, advanced windows care, ccleaner, superspywareguard, ad-aware, and more) out there to help but there's still problems. Here are some of my computer specs:

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center edition, with Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel Centrino Pentium M processor, 1.60 GHz
Video Device: Ati Mobility Radeon X300
Hard Disk: 60 GB
Physical Memory: 1,535 MB (System Cache: 7958K)
Kernal Memory: 102108 K (Paged: 77204K, Nonpaged: 24896K)
Handles: 14955
Threads: 609
Processes: 63
I've tried to find what processes are running that could be malicious but they all seem to check out ok with the programs I've used. I have never formatted my computer - could that be the problem? Many thanks.

Hiya there, thanks for reading this post of mine. For two days now, my computer has decided to either shut itself down, or just freeze untill I shut it down meself. Most of the time I get past the welcome screen, and manage to keep it running for a good 2 minutes or so before this happens. Sometimes it just shuts down when that Windows logo loading thingy appears. I haven't installed any new hardware or software recently (except for some games). I've had problems with the sound card, but when taking it out, the computer still acts the same. I also know I've had some problems with the cpu overheating before, so I tried putting a 9" 35W fan by it, with no difference; maybe the damage is already done?I've tried running defrags and some memory/cpu tests, but the comp has shut down before they have had a chance to finish. To be honest, I have no idea what to do. Buying a new motherboard + cpu, and then finding out that isn't the problem is something I'm not willing to risk. Maybe a new power supply? But if the power supply is the problem, would the computer really freeze instead of shutting down/rebooting?All help is appreciated. Thanks! // Dan

Answer:Comp freezing/shutting down all the time

Hello, and welcome to Computerhope, DanIs this a self-built computer?  If so, can you provide the specs for us?If not, can you provide the make and model? Can you boot into Safe Mode?

Every time i switch my pc on it restarts by itself. As soon as i enter my password, the computer restarts and chkdsk appears(i had activated chkdsk the last time i successfully ran my computer). In every chkdsk scan one or the other file gets truncated .Please tell me the problem and the possible solution.

Answer:my comp restarts every time i switch it on

Sounds to me like your hard drive is on its way out; a complete failure may be imminent.

My suggestion is to run a thorough ScanDisk and DeFrag from Safe Mode. If you can't access Safe Mode either, then mounting the drive in another machine and scanning it from there may be your only option. If the drive is about to fail, even these disk maintenance tools may only buy you a small amount of time, so when the opportunity presents itself, make sure you back up any important data.

Hi guys~
I am so embarrased to say this but I recently caught my bf cheating. Well, come to find out he has been downloading hundreds of programs to flush my comp, rollback my comp, had uninstalled ALL of my anti-virus/firewall programs not to mention reaking complete havoc on my computer. I have found many of my items to be HIDDEN. Things are now re-directed to be downloaded onto some EZ_TEMP folder now, I am unable to unzip anything or open hardly anything on my computer. I am about 99% ready to kick this person to the curb but he swears up & down he didn't do ANYTHING to my computer. It was perfectly fine until this past month which he is supposed to be trying to win me back. I have found things labled LOVELETTER, Love Tests, Pics that were downlaoded that will no longer open.
PLS, help an old buddy find some solid proof. All I can find are the SCARY programs that were downloaded to cover everything up. WHAT CAN I DO? It's been 6 weeks of hell & I want to move on... I m begging you guys to think of something to help me find proof on here. Should I do a system restore back to an earlier time?
HIjack this does not pick up anything. He's been messing with cache files, changing keyes, ANYTHING you can imagine pretty much...
PLS Help nice, honest girl get rid of this virus, not talking about computer either although, I have found those as well...

Answer:I REALLY need you guys, someone been messing w/ my comp BIG TIME!!!

I'm wondering if it's better or worse for the computer to leave it on all the time? I'm running a new PC with XP. a P4 2.53Ghz, 512RDRAM, and the rest of the normal goodies. Monitor is a 21" Viewsonic.

Right now, I have all the power settings set to "Never" but my monitor shuts off after an hour.

I've heard it both ways - that it's better for electronics such as computers to be left on all the time instead of turning off and on....or that it's better to save wear & tear by shutting down when they won't be used for a while.

I have DSL, running Norton AV, ZoneAlarm on it.

Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

Answer:Safe to leave comp on all the time?

Welcome to TechSpot forums

How often do you shutdown your computer?

I shut my machine down when I need to change hardware or when I'm moving.

Hi guys and gals, I recently put in a Logisys fan controller. The instructions, or should I say lack of, do not really give me much information.
I got it installed and basically figured out how to use most, if not all of the functions, but when I turn off my comp, I lose the time and date.

Is there a way to keep power to this to keep those settings?

Here is my controller: http://www.logisyscomputer.com/viewsku.asp?SKUID=FP708&DID=FRONTPANEL

Answer:Fan controller won't keep time if comp is shut off.

Hi

Just a thought as many devices that come with batteries pre installed is to double check it for that slim bit of plastic that needs pulling out to make the circuit, or change the battery for a new one CR2032s are easily found.

Hey I'm new here and was wondering if I could possibly get some help with this issue I have been experiencing. When I've been in World Of Warcraft for quite some time, or any other game for that matter, my computer totally locks up, and until now I never noticed that I received a BSOD after it reboots itself.

I built my system myself and the specs are as follows
MoBo: Asus A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939
CPU: AMD 4000+ 2.4 ghz
PSU: ULTRA 550w
RAM: Patriot 2 x 1GB PC 3200 DDR 184 Pin D400
Drive: WD 320g 7200 RPM
GFX Card: eVGA 7950 GX2 512MB

I debugged the BSOD and in return I got:

I am the owner of the company and the closest thing we have to an adminstrator. My desktop is running slow, internet is very slow and keystrokes are delayed quite often. The keyboard is wired so I know it is not a battery situation. I have run virus scans until I am blue in the face, it has not fixed the problem. I had an IT tech install SYmantec ENdpoint about two years agao and it seems that has been causing problems as well. I have tried to remove Endpoint protection from the desktops and network server but it will not fully uninstall. I do not know if that is part of the problem. Attached is the DDS log and Gmer log.

Please help.

I have problems with the boot time and shut down time of my Thinpad Edge. It takes about 30 seconds (the loading screen) after I log in using password until the desktop appears. And then everytime I shut down the computer, it keeps showing the "waiting for background program to close" screen but there aren't any program listed in the screen. Does anyone know how to improve this?

Answer:Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 14 experiencing slow boot time and shut down time

hey nitefury, did you install any new software or run and anti-virus programs ? There are some software that takes system resources but wont show at the "waiting for the background program to close" section.also check if you have any application that "runs when windows starts"

Hi,

I just noticed the clock on my Windows 10 tablet is running noticeably slow.
Over the last few days I've seen wrong times and done a manual sync to the time server, which sets it right again.

Now, if I bring up the calendar display, it's clear that the seconds are counting up in something like 1.25 second intervals.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Answer:Windows time clock running slow, losing time.

Please see this thread for possible solutions: Clock "slows down", yet is able to manually sync correctly.

Note that the OP has still not been able to fix it but it would be worth checking with him.

Okay, so everytime I run Chkdsk it always finds errors on the disk. I am unsure why, but if I run chkdsk back to back, it will keep constantly find new errors every time. Also, the Chkdsk takes about 2 and a half hours to complete, and always gets stuck at 10% for most of that time. [I run Chkdsk /f /r, it reboots the computer and runs]

This is what I have tried so far:
1) Running SFC /SCANNOW. It has fixed errors in the past used alongwith DISM. I just ran SFC again to be sure, no errors found.
2) Checking computer for malware. I have Malwarebytes Pro and Bitdefender Pro. I seriously doubt malware caused this since I have at most found 5 minor threats on my computer in the past year. Just to be sure, I ran a few scans in safe mode with Malwarebytes, and Hitman Pro, etc. All clean.

More Info on my problem:
The reason why I found out about the Chkdsk problem is because my computer has started booting up slow. About 2 weeks ago my computer would take 10 seconds to go from POST to login screen. Now it takes over 75 seconds [With Windows 8 Fast Start up Enabled]. I began investigating why, with no apparent reason. No big start up items, nothing running at start up that shouldn't be there.

Lately, I have been reading Errors and Warnings in Event Viewer as an idea to figure if anything was wrong. I have dealt with a few errors individually, but no improvement.

Here is some Info on programs I use on my computer.
1) Malwarebytes PRO [In Startup]
2) Bitdefender Total Security 2015... Read more

Hi,
I have an emachine comp that has always had trouble restarting. If I try to restart it it gets stuck at the e machines logo. I have always just shut it down and then rebooted to avoid this. Now it gets power after I turn it on, all fans working, hard drive running, cd drive running and everything but the monitor gets no signal. I tried to start it many times but just ended up with the same results until now. It is running fine again all of the sudden with no change at all so obviously it is not the monitor. Does anyone know about what causes this to happen? I am afraid I will be stuck with it just not starting at all at one point if I don't find out what is wrong.

Thank you so much for your help!

Answer:Comp has power but doesn't boot every time

I had a long reply and it got lost completely so to narrow this attempt down...
Check for connections at the terminals, also dust and corrosion over time, as well as spotty HDD things like reading errors via blemishes on the discs surfaces can cause delayed reading. It's the same as most other electronics's symptoms in this regard.
That's my opinion because you can't see what the CPU and computer are actually getting stuck on, however, if the HDD light is constant, assume it is a read error.

Also, you will have extra AGP or PCI only slots, add a back up video card to insure you have a fall back! The onboard video connections can fail due to the cheap overall construction of eMachines' Mobos (TriGEM)

For about a year now i have been reconsidering my decision to get a laptop prior to going off to college, thinking that the portability of it will be more important to me considering my degree plan and the need to take it to classes and the library. Well i will admit that it is handy to take it and write papers in the library, but thats about it. I have never taken it to class, and i find myself wishing that i had gone with a desktop pc instead. Mainly due to its higher power and "umpf" factor. So this year i have been looking around on all the big computer sites building computers trying to get an idea of what i want/needed. i ended up seriously considering a dell xps system, but then experimented in the barebones kit area on tigerdirect.com. I ended up building(or choosing parts) that wound up being about 600 dollars cheaper than the dell, with about the same performance (atleast what i could tell). Now my big concern is really if this rig that i have "assembled" will do what i need it to do.

What im looking for is a computer that will be able to handle most of the games out there with very decent graphics, speed, effeciency. I will also need it to be able to do all the other school related stuff.

With that being said, here is the rig:

Barebones Kit: Ultra Blue Aluminus ATX Full-Tower Case with the Intel D975XBXLKR Motherboard, 600 Watt X-Finity PS & (2 x 512MB) Ultra DDR2 PC4200 Memory

CPU: Intel Pentium D 820 2.80GHz / 2MB Cache ... Read more

Answer:first time building comp, need suggestions on hardware

for now you should certanly stick with AMD on a socket AM2(Fx-62?)
and stay away from that video card it uses only GDDR2(not really high end card, cant handle full detail games) memory it's a 512mb but you can get better FPS with a 256mb GDDR3 card.
7800GT 256MB ; ATI X1800XTX ; 7900GTX ; ATI X1900XT
It's like the best you can get. Oh...and 7950 GT <- the dual card.
Of course only if you have enough money for the hardware i just mentioned.
