Microsoft Update Error/McAfee Stopped Working...

Question: Microsoft Update Error/McAfee Stopped Working...

Greetings,

I am using Windows XP SP3. On shutdown of my laptop I received a message about Microsoft Updates to install and computer would shutdown when finished installing. An hour later the updates still had not finished installing so I shut down my laptop manually.

When I turned on my laptop I received a message stating could not find C:windows/system 32/ juschd.exe.bat file, however, computer continued to boot up and all appeared well.

I then tried to update McAfee and the Security Center was not able to update so I type in the address bar of Internet Explore www.mcafee.com and Internet Explore was not able to display the page. I also found I could not get to any site with "McAfee" in the address.

I called McAfee and after a hour they said I need to call a different department and that there would be an additional charge.

So I decided to try and fix this on my own. Researched and found that this might be a MTU size error so made registry entry of hkey_local_machine\system\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndiswan
Parameters\Protocols\0... ProtocolType REG_DWORD 0x00000800 PPPProtocolType REG_DWORD 0x00000021 ProtocolMTU REG_DWORD 1452.

This did not work. Then read to uninstall McAfee. So I uninstalled McAfee including showing all folders and files and then deleting them. Needless to say this did not work. I still could not visit the McAfee websites.

Then I found this forum and did some more reading. Wish I had found this forum first.

Since reading some of the post I found I am also get the "Cannot display page: error on www. symantec.com sites.

Below is the hijackthis log and malwarebytes log:

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me.

Preferred Solution: Microsoft Update Error/McAfee Stopped Working...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After a recent Microsoft update, the cd/dvd player on my computer has stopped working.  Previously, it worked just fine. When I checked in the device status, it says "This device is working properly."  However, when I put in a dvd, it spins a little and then a pop up box tells me to insert a disc into drive E.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the video graphics, etc., but to no avail.  In addition, I tried to update the drivers and that still did not work.  (The cd/dvd drive is listed as hp DVDRW SU 208GB SATA in properties.)  I have also tried to play an audio cd, but that doesn't work either.

We had a computer that was infected with a virus which was responsible for the annoying "XP 2011 Security...." pop up. To the best of our knowledge we successfully removed that virus. I recently discovered, on the same machine, that Microsoft and Windows Update and Windows Defender Update won't work with the error "error number: 0X80070424". I also found the Firewall had been disabled (one of the services had been removed). The microsoft fix utility did not fix the problem. Symantec Antivirus and Malwarebytes found nothing. Spybot Search and Destroy found a few harmless things and the Sophos Rootkit checker found nothing of significance.

I've been doing alot of tweaking and downloading the last few days, so it could be anything. i wanted to check Microsoft update because for whatever reason, Live Messenger was not logging on and SkyDrive wasn't accessible on my laptop, when both work fine on my desktop. i tried to get to Microsoft update through Google, the link in my start menu, and even the link on the Microsoft homepage but they all ended up on Google with the URL staying as "http://update.microsoft.com/". and it did this with both Chrome and IE7. also, for the last couple days, when i directly double click on the "(C:)" drive, an error pops up about not being able to find some "RECYCLER\S-1-1-14-100023495-100021663-100017297-4700.com" file, but when i type in "C:\" in the address bar, it gets there just fine. also, when i right click on "(C:)" i have the option to AutoPlay, and when i click "open" it asks me what program i would like to use to open "the file C:\". i am currently running an Avast virus scan, but it's a free program so i don't think it will get me very far... help would be greatly appreciated! oh and some programs i have been installing and uninstalling are Gladinet, windows live messenger from "http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Chat/Instant-Messaging/Windows-Live-Messenger-9.shtml" because the actual Microsoft site wasn't working (was told it was a broken link), VLC Media Player, Avast, F... so the trojan ended up not letting me run MalwareBytes, or any other powerful anti-malware software, and i was stuck. but after looking around the forums i decided to try renaming the "mbam.exe" file associated with MalwareBytes to mbam123.exe and it worked! it finally opened! however, it didn't let me update the rules file, but i was able to find a download from another post of a more recent update, and it installed just fine. with some anticipation i ran MalwareBytes and finally, it managed to beat this thing. or, i should say... these 12 things... here's the log:

I am running windows vista and somehow, I don't know when, Mcafee stopped working and I got a pop up stating my computer was at risk and smartsecurity site came up. I did some hunting and got this off my computer but now when I try to install Mcafee total protection from the install disk or from the website, it won't install. I need some advice on how to fix this issue. Thanks

Answer:Mcafee stopped working

Try restarting your computer, and when the boot splash screen comes up, press F8 repeatedly. This should take you a menu that asks how you want to boot Windows. Select "Safe Mode" if you have the Mcafee installation disc, select "Safe Mode with Networking" if you're installing it from an internet download. When Windows boots up, try and install it and see if it works.

Hi - would be very grateful of some help! Running XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, SP3. Using IE7 primarily, but also Firefox 3. :In IE, although it doesnt happen all the time, Google often re-directs to various ad-sites, although the correct site can be reached by clicking Back. It will not let me access the McAfee website - giving a "HTTP 501 Not Implemented or HTTP 505 Version Not Supported" error. Firefox randomly crashes and re-starts every now and then and gives a blank page with "The specified method is not supported" for McAfee.McAfee Security Centre does not start up automatically any more on startup even though I havent changed any settings. When the program is opened from the desktop it states the detection signiture is out of date, however when I try to update, it appears to try before giving an update error and telling me to reinstall McAfee Internet Security (which I can't do because I cant access the website!).Having looked at several topics on here and other boards, I have tried doing the following scans with the respective results - all without any success:SUPERAntiSpyware, first scan:SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Loghttp://www.superantispyware.comGenerated 04/21/2009 at 01:23 AMApplication Version : 4.26.1000Core Rules Database Version : 3854Trace Rules Database Version: 1806Scan type : Complete ScanTotal Scan Time : 01:29:29Memory items scanned : 674Memory threats detected : 0Registry items scanned : 7459Registr... I honestly think I need some advanced help here because Ive tried about every solution I could find that pertained to me using Google.

So all of a sudden my windows update just stopped working/checking for updates(I get unknown error 8024402C ) and I cannot connect to some Microsoft websites like "www.update.Microsoft.com" and the download place for ie 10, Firefox says it cant find the server at "update.microsoft.com" and "download.microsoft.com" and when I diagnosed the connection with internet explorer it said "The DNS isn't responding" on both Microsoft websites all other websites work fine.

Things Ive tried that did not work:

IMPORTANT: I have recovered my laptop back to an image I made 3 years ago before I knew this would be this hard to fix.
The Microsoft fix it tool gives me error 80072EE7
updated some drivers
Went to "services.msc" and checked that background intelligent, windows update, and workstion were started and automatic.
I did a full scan with malware bytes program and found nothing.
I changed around the (TCP/IPv4) on my internet connection to the opendns and googledns adresses. could not change on the (TCP/IPv6) said invalid address.
Ran ccleaner program to fix any registry problems there might be.

I have been having freezing problems and the laptop sometimes turns itself off it has only just been repaired so everything was re installed but mcafee keeps saying its stopped working and this has been every day for two months am i protected or not

Answer:mcafee message it has stopped working

You are not protected unless McAfee runs without error messages. Try re-installing it or use some other security software. Comodo Internet Security is less well known but works well and there's a free version which still includes firewall + antivirus. What's more, the "Pro" version is only $20 and you can use it on up to 3 computers at the same time.Comodo website: http://www.comodo.com/Another important point is that Comodo is nowhere near as heavy on system resources as McAfee, so you'll have more RAM free for Windows & apps to use.

Today as I turned on my Aspire V3 laptop I found the system running extremely slow. Opening task manager I found RAM and Harddrive was almost running at 100%, then I checked it was McAfee scan that came with Pre-installation that is taking up all the resources. After about 10 minutes of running like this I decided to restart my computer. However after restart many system functions are no longer working. I can no longer access task manager. either CTRL+ALT+DEL or win-r wont bring it up. Tried MSCONFIG and again it wont start after I enter the keys. System restore similarly won't start after I click the bottons. There is no internet, clicking on device manager bottons won't bring up anything, driver update bottons similarly won't bring any response,  even reset to factory default botton won't work-was able to access the menu but when clicking on bottons nothing starts. - it seems as if the whole operating system is broke.  Since this McAfee program came with the Acer laptop (it literarily says McAfee Internet security -Acer on the program menu) was wondering if anyone from Acer knows about this issue and knows how to fix it. Thanks.

Answer:Acer aspire V3 laptop stopped working after McAfee...

Sounds like the reboot came up in safe mode. Try a shutdown, restart to see if it clears up. Rebooting while in something as intensive as a virus scan / repair is seldom safe. You should always let it continue until it's finished, even if inconvenient.

When I double click any of the following to open them, I immediately get the message:
"[program] has stopped working Windows is checking for a solution to the problem."
Followed soon after by: "[Program] has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

So far, I have found that each of the following all experience the same when I try to
start them: Skype, McAfee, Desktop Windows Manager and Microsoft Help & Support.

It was suggested that I try to remove malware. I have not paid for a program to do so yet.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Skype but not the others. I first noticed this when I
tried to use Skype yesterday. I hadn't used it since July.

Hi forum,

I'm having some problem about a week ago with Microsoft security essentials bugging out on me and not opening or updating. Basically the message I got on opening MSE was windows cannot access specified path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the file. Upon reading this about a week ago, I think! I proceeded to foolishly downloading a Zeroroot access program and a few MSE alternatives. Since then I have still been unable to re-install MSE by deleting all components in the registry.

The error code I get with trying to re-install MSE is 0x80070643

Having then unistalled the zeroaccess program and the previous alternative antivirus programs, I still cannot get MSE working, and I now have a windows 7 update error. The new system update I believe may be to do with security as-well!! The error code on doing a windows 7 update is 80070005, and it did cut out at 9% every time. (although now I think it is just 0%)
Can someone please help me as I have had a very successful streak of avoiding viruses by always usin MSE. I don't want, and can't afford to get a virus attack, not to mention Im runnign windows 7 ultimate so I need the windows 7 updates too because the ultimate can be dodgy sometimes. Nb the update I cannot do is 1.4mb but I am anticipating windows will throw me a new update any day soon which could be anywhere from 30mb to 200mb and it could fail all of it leaving me prone to attacks.

I can post my specs, ... Read more

Maybe so we will need to run a few scans to determine what the problem might be.Please download exeHelper to your desktop.Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.Post the contents of exehelperlog.txt (Will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com, and should open at the end of the scan)Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file). Download DDS and save it to your desktop. DDS.scrDisable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed. Then double click dds.scr to run the tool. When done, the DDS.txt will open.Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:1. DDS.txt2. Attach.txt (do not zip just copy/paste) Save both reports to your desktop then post them please. You may need to post in segments to get all the info to us as the logs may be to large to fit in one post. Microsoft Word always worked fine on my computer until a few days ago when I tried to open it and it said something about a missing shortcut, it says:

Mising Shortcut
Windows is searching for WINWORD.EXE. To locate the file yourself, click Browse

and then after a few seconds a box comes up saying:

Problem With Shortcut
The item "WINWORD.EXE" that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete this shortcut?

I have no idea what's happened, I don't remember changing or moving any shortcut or whatever it's talking about, it was working fine one day and then the next day it wasn't working at all.
I tried to do a System Restore because I thought that might reset the computer to how it was before Word stopped working, but it said there were no restore points so I couldn't do that.
Can someone please try to help?

Since you've given no info about the installation, I'm going to guess this was a trial version on a new computer? It only works for a specified number of documents and then you must purchase a license key to keep it going.

Morning Group,

I'm at my wits end on this.  I have a Windows 7 Pro computer with Office 365 installed, and all of a sudden, I'm getting the dialog box with the dreaded "Microsoft Outlook has stopped working...".    This in not only happening with Outlook, but all of Office apps, like Word, Excel and PowerPoint, to name a few.

To make things more interesting, everything was working perfectly up until a week ago.  During this time, I have made no other updates to any of my programs/apps.

I have gone to Microsoft's site, Google to find answers on how to fix the problem.   I tried everything possible.   I have download all of the latest Window 7 Pro updates, uninstalled, re-installed, safe boots, "outlook.exe /safe", and NOTHING solves the problem.  I even went as far as updating the drivers from HP.

I am very frustrated and angry that a solution cannot be found.

Has anyone out there experience the same thing and found a solution?

Sure would appreciate any more suggestions or ideas on how to solve this.

Thank you in advance!

Sincerely,

I am very frustrated and angry that a solution cannot be found.

Has anyone out there experience the same thing and found a solution?

Sure would appreciate any more suggestions or ideas on how to solve this.

Thank you in advance!

Sincerely,

Grant Boice

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium (Service Pack 1) and my computer has (relatively) recently stopped automatically updating. I have a constant alert in the status bar telling me this is the case with automatic updates and attempting it manually gives me an error code - 80096001 - immediately after attempting it. This problem may have coincided with me uninstalling AVG some time ago, but I'm not sure when it began for sure.

The reason for the thread title is because I recently attempted to install Microsoft Security Essentials, which also failed to auto-update in its initial setup. Could these issues be linked?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A week ago I installed Microsoft Office Small Business 2007 upgrade on top of Windows 2000, with no problems at all until now.

When I now open up Outlook 2007 after about 30 seconds I get an error message:-
Microsoft Office Outlook has stopped working, windows is collecting more information about this problem.

I then asked if I want to send more information about the problem to Microsoft.

The next message:- A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Outlook closes and goes back to desktop.

I have looked on the Microsoft Office for updates or patches but there is nothing.

I am very concerned I cannot open this program as I have hundreds of contacts, email accounts and valuable data there.

If I uninstalled Office 2007 and re-install it again, will all my data still be on the computer, or will I loose everything?

Help please

Help!

Whenever I try to save in Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) I get the above error message and then it closes.

I have removed AVG from my computer and also uninstalled office and reinstalled it but this doesnt' help.

I can get it to work in safe mode but is there anything I can do to get it working properly?

Thank you!

Answer:Microsoft office has stopped working when saving

last time I had that problem and ran Office Diagnostics, it said the hard drive was the problem so I tested it and indeed the test confirmed it. New hard drive fixed the problem. However, I'm not suggesting you rush out and buy a new hard drive. Test it first with DOS-based diagnostic software like SeaTools for DOS which can test any drive brand and runs from a bootable CD:

Mail stopped working suddenly. When launching now it immediately disappears. It's too bad as I liked the program. Anyway to trouble shoot this??

TIA

Answer:Microsoft Mail stopped working suddenly

Run a system file check to look for corrupt files.

Right click at Start button > click Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this.......
sfc /scannow

> press Enter.
It will take quite sometime.
When finished, it will give you one of the 3 reports...............(paraphrasing)
1. No integrity violation.
2. Found corrupt files and repair successful.
3. Found corrupt files but unable to repair.

If the report is #1, your solution lies elsewhere.
If the report is #2, check if your problems have been resolved.
If the report is #3, use this method................
In the same Command Prompt (Admin) windows, copy and paste this command...........

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

> press Enter.
Again it will take some time.
When finished, it will give you a report.

Microsoft display adapter BC was working perfectly until a few days ago. It stopped working while I was watching a video. Now when I try to connect, the screen goes black for a few seconds and then the TV goes back to the Microsoft ready to connect screen. My computer screen flashes the message "display driver Intel HD graphics drivers for windows 8(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered" I have not installed any new hardware or downloaded anything recently to cause this problem. Any advice?

Answer:Why has microsoft display adapter BC stopped working?

Hi guest,
I think you can try to register to this forum and it will help you track your questions solved more easily. The "display driver stopped responding had has recovered" is a common question. Normally it happens when you playing games, and view videos. Usually is the gpu overload operation or you need to update your graphic drivers.
You can try to solve this problem follow these steps:
1. Update the graphic drivers. (normally, when you do this step, it will solve your problem.)
2. End program by Task Manager, especially for game program and video program.
3. Increase the TDR data.
4. Update system package.
5. Reset GPU frequency.
6. Update Motherboard/Bios drivers.
7. Cooling computer.
8. Change graphic card.
And you can follow this article: How to fix display drivers stopped responding and has recovered to do it step by step.

Since yesterday, I have been receiving the above message when I close Outlook (the program otherwise functions normally).I had recently removed PC Tools Antivirus and replaced it with AVG Free antivirus, but I don't think that this is the cause of the problem. For the record, I have Office 2007 Professional, Vista Home Premium, ZoneAlarm, Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal, and Acrobat 8.1.2.One thing that might be of use in solving the situation: I had previously noticed that 2 add-ins had been disactivated by Outlook -- one for unified messaging in MS Exchange, and the other for PDF files in Outlook -- and now the latter (pdfmoutlook.dll) is no longer disactivated. I don't know how to go about disactivating this driver again.I have already tried using the various fix options for Office and Outlook, but the problem persists. All suggestions welcomed.Florio

I have installed Office 2003 on a Windows 7 Professional laptop. Excel intermittantly crashes with error message 'Microsoft Office Excel has stopped working'. The error occurs while doing various things, such as copy & paste, closing Excel, running macros etc.
Following advice from other forums I've tried

Repairing Excel.
Reinstalling Excel.
Disabling Bluetooth.
Setting BtOfficeAddin.BtOfficeIntegration data entry in the registry to 0x00000000 (0).
The macros worked fine on XP but I keep getting this error on Windows 7. Does anyone have any advice?

my usb optical mouse was working just fine but when i switched on my laptop this morning it wasn't working anymore. the red laser is lit at the bottom of the mouse but the cursor doesn't move.

i checked the device manager and saw 2 alerts under the Human Interface Devices tab. One for HP Quick Launch Buttons and the other is for USB Human Interface Device. I presume the latter is my mouse. When i check on properties for both the alerts it says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

All the driver files do seem to be in place or so I think since I haven't done any changes lately. I have already tried uninstalling both error causing devices under the Human Interface Devices tab. But when I reboot, both the devices automatically re-appear and with the yellow exclamation mark error still there. Any ideas on how to resolve this??

I'm on a HP 500 notebook running on XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3.

Trying to start Outlook 2010, get message "Microsoft Outlook has stopped working".
(Same result in Outlook "safe mode".)
Outlook opens folder pane, message pane & preview pane. Then a popup with message above.
This is a Windows 10 system "upgraded" from Windows 7 about a year ago via GWX.
The email provider is COMCAST using an Exchange Server via RPC/HTTP connection.
Since we're talking about Exchange Server, the data files are .OSTs.
SFC finds no problems, and neither does CHKDSK.
Event log is cryptic to me (aren't they all?) but names "WINDOWS.UI.XAML.DLL" as faulting module.
I believe this module to be a component of KB3194496, recently installed via Windows Update.
It seems clear to me that this is a Windows Update issue.
There are no available Restore Points.
(event pasted below)
Has anyone else seen this?

Is there a work-around?

Thanks In advance...

Answer:Microsoft Management Console has stopped working!

Check for data corruption.Run Disk Check with Automatically fix file system errors checked. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log.
For any drives that do not give the message:
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems
run disk check again as above. In other words, if it says:
Windows has made corrections to the file system
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker up to three times to fix all errors with a restart in between each. Post back if it continues to show errors after a fourth run or if the first run comes back with no integrity violations.

Answer:Why has my Microsoft Lumia 535 suddenly stopped working?

Apologies for not being able to give you a solid answer about this.
If this were my phone I would use the "Lumia Software Recovery Tool" available here:http://download.fds-ncom.nokia.com/s...lInstaller.exe
If possible install the tool on a Windows desktop PC.
Let the tool update.
Follow the instructions from the tool.
Connect your phone to the PC to recover.
This will completely wipe the phone and you will have to start over as though the phone was new.
Hope this is helpful.
Good luck.

I am trying to reinstall Microsoft Office 2007 Student Edition and I continue to receive the following error:
Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper has stopped Working.
"A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".

Microsoft support informed me to try installing on a clean boot but the issue occurred. They provided me with a new download of Office 2007 and when attempting to install I continue to receive the error. I do not have any other versions of Office installed. This is very frustrating. I believe a lot of this began when I uninstalled "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition" from my Laptop due to not working properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really need to get Office installed so I can complete my college courses.

Thank You
Ian

I have had Outlook 2007 installed for a while now and had no problem with it. Yesterday it stopped working and I cannot get it restarted. I get a message saying the file C:\Users\SteveBurns\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook.pst cannot be opened.
I have been into the mail app file and tried repair and that came up saying it was working, but nothing is working.
I had this as part of Microsoft office package 2007.
Can someone help? I get all my mail sent through to this address.

Answer:Microsoft Outlook 2007 stopped working

The pst file is probably corrupted. Use scanpst see MS Support.
These threads often get spammers promoting pst repair tools. Ignore them.

Answer:Please help me with Microsoft word has stopped working issue

Hello binngokute and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm a little confused why you reinstalled the operating system to try to repair Microsoft Office. In Office 2003 (the version I have at work) you could click on detect and repair in the help menu. Office would then try to find and repair problems such as missing files and registry settings associated with all installed Microsoft Office programs. Does your version of Office have that option?

Automatically repair Office programs - Excel - Office.com

As far as Windows Explorer stopping you might try to run a System File Checker scan. If any problems are noted run the scan 3 times rebooting in between each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If the SFC scan doesn't help you might consider a Repair Install.

Repair Install

Please post back to let us know if anything helped or if you're still having problems.

Added Info: If you're using a later version of Office you might want to try Start > Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office Diagnostics to find and repair problems.

When I try to run one of my Microsoft office professional plus 2010 programs I get an error message that reads:Microsoft setup boots-trapper had stopped workingA problem caused the program to stop working corectly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. There is one button on the pop up that says close program. Once I click mentioned button i get another error message that reads:Microsoft office professional plus 2010 cannot verify the license for this application. A repair attempt failed or was canceled by the user. the application will now shut down.I also tried to unistall it and I receive the first error message I mentioned. Once I click the button all the windows for un-installation close. I have tried backing up everything and reinstalling windows and I have also done a system restore to a point that I knew no errors were occuring and the problem just carries over. I searched the web as well but all I could find were these really complicated sulutions that I decided not to try for fear of making the problem worse. Any help will be completely appericiated.

Answer:Microsoft setup bootstrapper has stopped working.

Uninstall Office again and try installing it from a different CD/DVD drive. If that's not possible, copy the entire Office CD contents to your hard drive and run setup from there.

And has it ever worked since you upgraded, or has it stopped working recently?
Do you have any useful restore points or disk images?

Hello again,

This thread is in relation to the other thread that I had created not too long ago. Over the course of the weekend, I've experienced some trouble when I had attempted to open my "Device Manager" in Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64. I opened under "System" in Windows 7, but it gives me a window that the MMC console has stopped working.

I've tried accessing through "Administrative Tools" under Control Panel. The problem remains the same. Therefore, I've tried reinstalling the entire operating system - but the problem remains the same. From my own research, the only way on preventing MMC from crashing is - disabling certain services and functions at startup (in this case, the "Themes" services). I've found out from one user (albeit running in a different operating system) who has a similar problem and it's all exhibited from these two links - here and here. I've followed that step and so far - all thing's are relatively stable.

I've also did an SFC (System File Checker) check in Windows 7, but they have failed to fix some of the problems relating to my issue.

To summarize, each time I wanted to access my hardware profile for my desktop system in Windows 7, the computer has kept crashing. I'm hinting that my hard drive is about to go bust any day now.

If you need any more information in regards to my hardware, please let me know. Also, what can I do to prevent MMC from crashing again in the future?

I have seen many other people with this issue and this is more of a solution for others than a question...When trying to install/open some programs, this error would pop up, "microsoft (C) Register Server has stopped working."Running as administrator would sometimes allow the program to install/open but with errors, hangs, and incomplete installs. Here are some of the other "fixes":1)sfc /scannow from the command prompt"I did find problems with some files but this did not fix the problem, so good, but not the fix."2)Modifying DEP (Data Execution Prevention)"This is more of a workaround and doesn't completely fix the problem (or work at all)."3)system restore"This is due to being a time before you installed the problem program."4)Memtest"Will not do anything (unless there really are errors, but very unlikely)."5)Renaming Windows folder in ProgramData."This will rebuild the folder but did not fix the problem."6)Re-install Windows again!"Yes, this fixes the issue, unless you use the same programs every time like most people do and install it on the fresh install."The culprit and subsequent fix was AVAST! antivirus (the newest version as of this post). To fix the problem, disable AVAST! (and you might need to restart with it disabled)... until you are finished installing/running the program.I absolutely love AVAST!, have used it for 7+ years and never had this issue in the past. The reason most people see this happening is because antivirus is usually the first thing to go on after...

Ever since March 3rd, 2009, every time I plug in my MANHATTAN WP5540 graphics tablet, WISPTIS.EXE crashes with the Problem Event Name of "APPCRASH." It was 1:42PM when I plugged in my tablet (Atlantic Standard Time.)

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 x64.

For applications, I only installed Firefox 3.1 beta 2, and for Windows Updates the last time that I installed any (major) updates was February 27th, 2009, and I don't believe that I've plugged my tablet in after that until the 3rd.

Answer:Microsoft Tablet PC Input Component has stopped working.

Try to remember what you did on March the 2nd, 2009, and then undo those actions in reverse sequence

More seriously, if you post more detail about the crash - those numbers in the "appcrash" event - someone here may be able to suggest what to do.

Word 2007 is closed after working on 2007 documents along with a 2003

alright so it all started when I accidently unplugged my laptop and it turned off, i plugged it back on and turned it back on. then i realized my wireless mouse stopped working, so I tried removing the device and installing it back again like i always do. I added the device, and it says i was successful at adding the device. after this, it says windows is now checking for drivers...blah blah.there's usually this window that pops up on the bottom right of my screen saying that its done installing. but this didn't happen! the icon for the mouse in my Device and Printers menu is grayed out. its weird. and waited and waited and i still didn't get any response. i cant get it to work. this is strange, cuz it usually works. help?

I am using MS office starter since 2012 and its working perfectly fine, till last week. But suddenly lats week when i clicked on a work document to open it, i got message that I need to repair Ms office. I checked online. Tried repairing it by going to control panel and click on repair but no luck. Could someone share the fix.

Answer:Microsoft 2010 starter stopped working suddenly

Hi: Try reinstalling it. I have zipped up and attached the install file below. You have to be connected to the internet in order to run the file. Download, unzip and double click to run the file. It will contact the Microsoft Office 2010 Starter download site, and download and install Office Starter 2010. I don't know if you have to uninstall your current version or not. Try it without uninstalling it and if it doesn't work then I guess you can uninstall it and redownload the program.
