Preferred Solution: HELP VIRUS LOP every minute(found in AVG evey minute) using hijackthis HELP!!!PLZ

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Welcome to TSG!!
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from Here or Here

I am not able to run presentations from my ThinkPad W530 while duplicating the monitor to a beamer. The monitor will flicker and reset its resolution every minute. I have already tried updating drivers, setting BIOS mode to discrete, using different resolutions, but nothing helped. As such, the device is useless when I would need it most importantly, to give presentations. Thanks in advance for any help in resolving this really disturbing issue.

The internet comes and goes. I'll have pages load instantly for a minute or so and then the next click the pages times out. A minute of page refreshing and more time outs and then I'm back to blazing speeds again. This repeats again and again. Restarting the computer, cable modem and router seems to make no difference. I've tried IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari, and again, no difference. I have 4 computers on my home network. This happens on all of them but for the sake of troubleshooting this I have physically disconnected 3 of them from the network. I've reset and reconfigured the router. I've removed the router and connected straight to the modem. No problems. Blazing connection. Added the router back in the loop, reboot and problem occurs immediately. So router problem, right? Yes, except I had the same problem with another router and replaced it with this one. So my laptop has been acting slow lately..

I'll be either browsing the net, or playing WoW, or even an old gba emulator and then BOOM, my PC use jumps to 100%..

It's weird because for example, on WoW, it will be running PERFECT and then MAJOR slowdown. And then even when I shut WoW off, my pc is still running at 100% and it takes a bit for it to go down.

it does that sometimes with just browsing too. It just all of a sudden jumps to 100.

I ran spyware and it didnt catch a lot really, so I ran hijack and maybe you guys can help me find something.

Thanks!

Hi.

New to the forum and new to viruses and I wonder if anyone could help me please.

I'm running Win7 x64 and all of a sudden, my PC will not stay on.  Either in Windows or Safe Mode, I can't do anything that takes longer than one minute - it always shuts down and restarts (With a warning when in windows).  It will not stay on long enough for me to do anything but I can't see anything "Unusual" in the process list.

I'm happy to do anything that's asked of me, as I'm a bit of a novice with this stuff but I'm having to use a borrowed PC as I need mine for some important work, so any quick replies would be apprecieted.

I've seen a similar post, so have downloaded and run Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (frst64.exe) according to the instructions on that post and here is the log:

Got a bit of trouble hoping for some help.

While browsing using Firefox I received a pop up stating "wait a minute this is important......" Something about virus and needing to run a scan. It found a ton of "viruses". I figured I've been infected with a fake virus scanner so I ran Rkill and tried to open malwarebytes. I was unable to run malwarebytes, just wouldn't open. I renamed malware and was able to finally do a scan. 3 items were found and removed. I restarted my computed and I'm still having the same trouble.

When I try googling wait a minute this is important virus a list of forums appear. When I try to click a link I get redirected.

I using

Hi, I was on here about a month ago and got some excellent help from one of you fine people on this site.

So after I clicked to "restart my computer after an adobe reader update", the next time I turned it on, the computer completely froze after a few minutes of booting up... After a few times of this occuring, I opened tasked manager to see what was going on and I noticed regsvr32.exe and regedit.exe appear in the process list JUST before the computer freezes...

I am unable to do any of the scans listed in the "read me" thread because of how it freezes so quickly... I will attempt to do them in safe mode (as I am able to get into safe mode without the freezing) and post them in this post, but I just wanted to get this thread up as soon as possible in hopes of a quicker reply.

I am not totally convinced it is malware, considering adobe reader updated may not have updated properly? Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to look at this and hopefully someone will be able to help me out!

Sorry about the double post (tried to edit first post but could not find the edit option!)

Anyhow I was able to complete both the DDS and GMER scan in SAFE MODE. I forgot to mention in my first post that I do have access to an install disc... CPU still freezing after few minutes of boot... I know doing all the scans in safe mode does not let you see all the processes running that could be causing this to happen, so hope... Read more

Why didn't I come here first? That's what I keep asking. In any event, here's my situation. Several weeks ago, I had something pop up identified as "Live Security Platinum". Knowing it was a virus, I was able to run Malwarebytes and it seemed to get rid of it. Then the computer got caught in this endless loop of the message popping up with "Windows has encountered a critical problem & will restart automatically in one minute. Please save your work now". Sure enough, it cycles and continuously reboots.

MSE always pops up as trying to clean the infection showing as Trojan:Win32/Sirefef.AH

Looking for advice elsewhere, I ran Kapersky Rescue Disk and it seemed to get rid of a few things as well, but the loop remains. I have tried safe mode and unplugging network/internet cable, all to no avail. I then found your site and, I again say why didn't I come here first?!?

I have reviewed many of the logs for similar problems as well as the prep guide and so forth. Here is what I have to report. I tried to turn off windows firewall and it initially came back with the message "Due to an unidentified problem, windows cannot display Windows Firewall Settings." After messing around trying to do some other things, it now says "The Windows Firewall service is not running."... Read more

This is my first post. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

The Microsoft Security Essentials icon in the tray turned red, as if the service was turned off. I was having trouble getting it turned back on, so I went to the control panel and uninstalled the service. I downloaded a new copy from the Microsoft website and reinstalled.

Soon after installing, I got a message saying that threats had been cleaned off the computer and then another saying that 2 threats had been quarantined. The threats quarantined were:

Virus:win32/sirefef.R and Trojan:win32/sirefef.AH

As this threat message pops up, I then get a window open telling me that Windows has encountered a critical error and will shut down in one minute.

It restarts, stays on for about 90 seconds, but then shutdowns again with the same message about detecting sirefef.R and .AH

Here are the logs:

I have just installed 7600.16385 and have two problems: 1) a two-minute timeout while the "Starting Windows" screen is displayed while booting, and 2) CD/DVD drive does not show up in Device Manager.

System configuration in tech specs below.

I saw the same problem on both RC1 and 7264.

While booting, the system stalls at "Starting Windows" for 2+ minutes. This error message is in the event log:

Are all your drives being detected by your BIOS? Temporarily disconnect your optical drive, check with the BIOS to make sure, and see if that makes any difference to your bootup.

Step by Step explanation of what occurred, and what I did.

The computer: a 4 month old ACer Aspire, 5742-6823, Windows 7 Home Premium. Intel Core i3-370M. Intel HD graphics. 4 gigs DDR3 memory. 640 gig harddrive.

10:00 PM, Monday December 12th: Playing Skyrim. Hit CTRL+Alt+Arrow key by accident. This flips the windows GUI upside down
Begin searching for solution on that computer by turning it upside down physically.
Power Cable comes out.
Laptop shuts down, despite having full battery.

Search for solution on old laptop; a 4.5 year old Dell Inspiron 1501 with a boatload of problems, including spontaneous shut downs and battery issues. Has been recently reformatted.
Find solution
Turn on new Acer.
Acer runs fine until it gets to the Windows screen. From "Welcome, please wait", to me typing in my user password, to me seeing my desktop takes approximately 20 minutes.

Once in Windows, runs incredibly choppily.
Try running in Safe Mode. Continues to run incredibly choppily.
Speak with Acer Support.
They suggest I use a restore point.
I slowly inch my way towards a system restore. There is one. It is for 6:36 PM, Monday December 12th. The laptop was closed but not off at that point.
I do a system restore.
The system restore proves ineffective.
I turn it on. It crawls into windows.
Upon being turned on, both my Wireless Card and Avast Anti virus are disabled.

I re-inable avast and my wireless card.
I download Malware Bytes Trial version.

Question: 3 minute wonder

Hi sorry to post the same problem but......Grrrr my PC keeps disconnecting from the internet. It happens about 4-5 times after first logging on and I am only on line for about 2 minutes before it disconnects? I have ran AVG and all ok and my Firewall is ok. i do not have call waiting. Is there a disconnect after so long box somewhere? and if so where can I find it? I have reconnected for 5th time tonight and this time it seems to be ok. It does it in the day as well so I dont think it is ISP being busy? When it disconnects it does not try to redial i.e if I had a rogue dialler trojan virus thing. Any help as always glady received.
thanks C

Answer:3 minute wonder

Many possibilities:

A faulty phone on the line. Try disconnecting all devices sharing the line.

A device connected that polls the line (security system, Satellite TV set top box etc)

Low line levels

Noise on phone line (most common)

Modem driver

Does anyone know why this happens? Thanks!

Answer:A 2 minute .avi is nearly 2GB?

Bottom line is that the AVI takes more room than some other formats
The .avi is changed into a different format so that DVD players can read it.
I am not an AVI expert that can tell you how much space it should take, but it would be more than expected.

I am running a private home wireless network with the main computer that is hooked to the Linksys wireless G router, two (2) secondary desktops in my sonís rooms and two laptops. All are running Windows Vista home premium with the exception of my Laptop. Everything will work fine and then all of a sudden I canít connect to the network from the other computers. It tells me to contact the Administrator. I can still connect from the main computer out and they still have internet connection. I do have a signal booster in the upstairs part of the house. I have fixed this problem by changing the name of the workgroup on all of the computers and it will work for a short period of time and then back to this. Every once in awhile, on the laptop running xp, I get an IP conflict, any help would be appreciated. I just want my family to be able to print, which brings up another question/issue. I have a new Kodak printer that is wireless. It has a connection to the network but I canít see or access it wirelessly. I have to go through the hardwire connection on the office computer to print.
Thanks in advance

Got a problem with my computer where is shuts off after 10 minutes without fail and sometimes doesnt start up until its been left switched off for a while.

I get these 2 error messages that are sent as reports to microsoft but their solutions havent worked:
C:\Windows\minidump\mini032706-07.dmp
C:\Docume~1\owner\locals~1\temp\WERE.tmp.dir00\sys data.xml

tried to scan for viruses but it never gets finished because the computer just shuts down

anyone got any ideas?

Answer:10 minute only computer

I would delete these files,

or

Have you tried to boot into Safe-Mode and run a scan,

or

Have you used System Restore,

however

you should have time to run Hi-JackThis and post a log in the 'HiJackThis Analysis' section, that is if it is already on your computer,

also

you should check in Task Manager and see if anything suspicious is running and disable them to give you more time to run a scan,

what protection do you use?, which programs?

I click my realtek icon, then select multemedia, then hit the AUDIO tab, its showing nothing for MIDI, so I select either Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth and select APPLY, then click ok.. but it dont save, so I go back into it and select MPU-401 instead, click apply, then ok... then go back into it and agian it DOESNT save...

So I uncheck (use default devices) and try both options again, click apply and ok again, still dont save, so I uninstall the audio devices fully, reset.. when restarts it finds it so I cancel it.. then I got to my backup new install cd on my HDD, and install the drivers again (exe automatic install from Epox, RealTEK semiconductor corp: wdm_a358.exe)

Restart... Windows comes back online, and again, MIDI is left BLANK!

So I uninstall all the video and audio codecs (Klite codec pack, Xvid codec, Divx Codec), restart.. try ALL the above again, and still MIDI is left blank, it doesnt save my selection...

I got 60GB of data that is very vital on here and I cant afford a format untill I can afford some blank DVD's to salvage what I can, is there anything I can do in the meantime..

Oh, and out of curiousity, does the Majorgeeks > Arcade > Yeti Pentalathon have sound? coz I dont get any, thats what made me suspect this all to begin with.... Read more

First of all, new to the forums, so hello everyone

I recently did a build of a new system for a friend's daughter. Her old computer was an outdated Compaq Presario- unfortunately, I don't have the hardware details.

However, her new system consists of a Leadtek K8N motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 FX-51, 1 Gb Corsair RAM (matched pair), ATi Radeon x800 P.E. video card (AGP), and Creative SoundBlaster Audigy2 sound card. All of these parts came from my old system, and worked fine there. Because her hard drive was of low capacity, we opted to install a new, larger capacity SATA drive from Maxtor.

Initial build was fine, but the system would not boot into Windows XP, and would hang at setup. Because of this, we purchased another version of Windows XP Home, and replaced the previous version with it. Boot up seemed normal. Installed all of the motherboard drivers (chipset, Sata, LAN), then used propietary Maxtor software to detect, format, and move all files from the original hard drive (IDE, btw) to the new Sata drive.

After removing the IDE drive and selecting the Sata drive as the boot device in Bios, restarted the computer. Boot was slow, taking anywhere from 2 to 3.5 minutes to boot to XP.

Hopefully, all of you builders out there will know more about this than I, and I thank you for your help in advance.

Answer:3.5 minute boot for XP?

it takes that long to boot into windows. but does windows load. did you check the old drive for errors currupt files, virusses, malware and what not. what exactly did you copy from her old hardrive just files or system files.

First I need to change my email address, this website seems to have all that written in stone....I still have access to this account, but it isn't the one I use any more. Then I have been digging through everything I can find to get a downloadable "book" on my new lapptop. I plan to increase the memory from the 6g it came with, to at least 8. Unfortunatly there is no "easy access" to do this or an ssd, so I would like to see what I will be up against. I like HP, but their lack of info, & having to reset the OS twice to get microsoft essentials to function, is begining to upset me....

hi guys looking to know for a customer the best motherboad out at minute he is a gamer and says money is no object lol any help would be great thanks also he has 9600 gfx also looking upgrade.

Answer:best motherboard at minute

Motherboard:
EVGA X58 Classified 4-Way SLI

Graphics Card(s) (buy 4):
If you're an nvidia fan:
GeForce GTX 295 CO-OP Hydro Copper

If you're an ATI fan:
Sapphire Radeon HD 5970 2 GB DDR5 Dual DVI-I / Mini DP OverClock Edition PCI-Express Graphics Card 100280OCSR

However, on the ATI side, I would wait for XFX to catch up to the 5900+ series before buying. XFX is the #1 ATI manufacturer, while I must admit EVGA is #1, IMO, on the nVIDIA side. PERSONALLY, I would choose the ATI card. DDR5 is better than DDR3, and does more work per clock cycle. Enjoy!

Question: 10 minute XP boot

Hi, over the last few months my computer has been booting up slower and slower. It's up to 10 minutes now. I'm putting any information that might be useful at the end of this message. I've tried limiting the number of programs that load on startup using msconfig and the services that run automatically in XP using services.msc. I've run Spybot Search & Destroy, and Ad-Aware, all they've found are some tracking cookies. Norton antivirus does a full scan every Friday night. I have Norton System Doctor running all the time and run Windoctor and Cleanup frequently. I've also maxed out my memory at 384mb, my computer only has 3 slots. If anyone has any ideas what I could do to speed up the boot process I would really appreciate it. Question: 8 minute start-up

Hi

Disabled all but the very basics in msconfig, but my system is still taking 8 minutes to start. Looking at the event log, during startup it is reporting six errors and five warnings relating to the last shutdown, and a lot of other oddities. (NB just to clarify, the four digits given at the start of each entry below are the time)

WLAN Autoconfi successfully starts, then then are no entries at all for 2 minutes until:

1833 The print spooler failed to share printer HP Deskjet 3050A J611 series (Network) with shared resource name HP Deskjet 3050A J611 series (Network). Error 2114. The printer cannot be used by others on the network.

[No further entries at all for 3 minutes after this]

1836 A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the Eventlog service (7011) [three separate entries]

1836 The Apple Mobile Device service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

1836 A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Apple Mobile Device service to connect.

1836 The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:

Question: 7 minute boot

My '2nd machine' runs Vista 32 bit Home Premium on a Pentium dual core processor. This is the machine described in my 'system specs'.

About 3 weeks ago I moved it and now it takes 6-7 minutes from power on to the screen that asks for a password. The fact that this started when I moved it may just be coincidental. In July, I was moving it around daily with no ill effects. Those moves were from a hotel to a house & back. The last move that coincides with when this problem started was from 1 room to another in the same house.

I am experiencing NO performance degradation/issues once the machine finally boots up. It runs as quickly as it has since I purchased it. Scans with Malwarebytes & Avira yield nothing. Both report the machine is 'clean'.

I have perhaps average computer literacy but its more in understanding software than hardware. I'm attaching 4 event logs that get generated at boot up. To demonstrate my knowledge or lack thereof, the event 102 log notes acpi.sys and I confirmed that nothing has changed with that file by comparing it bytewise with a backup found on an image I had created in July. That's pretty much all I've done as I need guidance in diagnosing this problem.

Any direction that anyone can provide will be appreciated. Thank-you!

P.S. I thought about restoring an image taken before I moved the machine. The problem is that during the boot up cycle, the F12 function doesn't appear to work. Ironically, the screen that displays the F12 ... Read more

I do not have experience of overclocking Intel cpu's but can offer the following advice.

Once you have overclocked your cpu, run Prime95 to check for stability issues. Also o/cing as far as AMD cpus are concerned can require more v.core which raises the cpu temp. Accordingly, I would also monitor that temp in the event that your processor requires more juice.

Good Luck

I'm still having problems with my Acer Aspire 1640 laptop and its wifi connection. Internet connection lasts between 2-5 mins ever since I fist set it up. 1). Could anyone please link me to a good program that will hide my IP address?

2). What's the point of using Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.? What advantage do they give you over just logging into your e-mail website (Gmail, Hotmail, yahoo!, etc.)?

Thank you.

BTW, if this is in the wrong forum, please let me know where to post these things in the future.

Answer:2 questions that'll only take a minute

1) There is no such program. You need an IP address to communicate over the internet! Just disconnect if you do not want an IP address.

Rethink the question. What exactly do you want to achieve? You want to get back into some forums or chatrooms or game servers where you made a complete ***** out of yourself and got banned? You want to check out some child porn? Learn to make bombs? Avoid prosecution by your oppressive government? Who do you want to hide from and why?

2) The first advantage is that you are actually able to use mail servers that do not offer a web interface. (You know, there is more to e-mail than hotmail+msn+yahoo) The second one is that you do not have to be online to work with your mail. The third one is that you can use your own spam filters in addition to the crap your service provider has (*cough* Microsoft *cough*). Fourth.. You have a fast and powerful mail application that lets you do more than any pretty "user friendly" web interface.

Question: 20 Minute Boot !!!

Hello everyone,

I recently experienced a STOP message that basically pointed out I that I would be stressed for the next 2 days. Sure enough I found myself re-installing XP and everything looks and works fine in XP but...

Every time I startup or restart my computer, my load takes around 20mins ! I have a Compaq Presario V2000. When I power or restart, the screen goes black, everything flashes, then the Compaq screen shows for about a second (guessing is the BIOS because it lets me hit F8 or whatever) but then after that it goes to a black screen with a status bar at the bottom. Slowly the status bar fills up. At around 20 minutes, which the bar is half way, then the computer flashes again and the XP logo shows and loads normally afterwards.

Im having no more problems with XP or anything else except that startup screen. People tell me its the BIOS, others tell me its not recognizing the Hard drive fast enough among other things. My BIOS boot order is basically CD first then HD. I have tried so many things with no success. And its getting to the point that I cant do anything when it comes to updating stuff without having to restart, which takes those 20mins.

Any advice ?

Answer:20 Minute Boot !!!

Hello & Welcome.

1.
What was the stop message? The reason that the stop message appeared may be related to your current problem.

2.
Did you re-format & re-install?

3.
Make a list of the things you have tried. We may need to know them.

4.
Boot to safe mode, by tapping the F8 key once a second during the boot process.
Report the results.

5.
XP Pro or Home or Media Center?
Which SP?

6.
How old is your hard disk drive?

7.
Did you add or remove any hardware between the appearance of the stop message and the re-installation?

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why my IE6 continually shuts down every minute!!! Im using XP home and have included my hijack log below. When it shuts down, I receive the famous "Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. Also, the failed file proccess in the details section of the error box is never the same! I've already run 3 spy & malware programs so I'm pretty sure Im clean. It doesnt seem to matter which page I go to or how many pages I have open, it just suddenly/randomly shuts down all open pages. I've disabled all add ons and ran numerous cmd lines suggested by others, but still no luck. I've tried all the common fixes to no avail. Could it be malware my scans may not be picking up on? Im at my wits end, I cant browse the interent for more than a minute b4 everything shuts down. I dont want to lose IE6, but if I must, I guess i can try IE7 if you think it would help. I've attached my hijack log and a few screen shots of the error box messages I get when this occurs. Thanks in advance! Jim

Answer:IE6 shuts down every minute or so

It would be to your advantage to upgrade to IE7. It includes more options, security features and add-ons than IE6. It will probably also fix your problem.

Answer:Best firewall at the minute

A rival magazine has just done a firewall survey in the latest issue and has very firmly given the Kerio personal firewall their recommendation if a free one is needed. Someone has given a link to the free download in another firewall thread a bit further down.

Install SP3 and the latest driver from the USB wireless adapter manufacturer's web site. You will, of course, need to download them using a computer that has internet access.

I recently changed my power settings so my monitor would go off after 1 minute while running some scans. Now when I try to change that setting to always on or any other setting, my monitor keeps going black after 1 minute of not being used. Any ideas as to how I can change this? It is very annoying.

Thanks
Peg

Answer:monitor off after 1 minute

Try unplugging the monitor and letting Windows redetect it, then change the settings again.

Not sure if this is a hardware or software issue, but am looking for some help on this issue.

A few months ago my computer started experiencing 20 minute reboot times. I have poked around in the bios and a few other places without success. Here is what I suspect is a key clue. I had to do a herd reboot the other day (video was out and had to hold down the power button). When the reboot arrived at the screen where it lets you chose to start windows normally or in Safe mode, the 30 second count down took about 20 seconds to between intervals. The 30 second count down took about 10 mins. I am not sure, but this seemed to start shortly after a Windows Update.

Help. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi All,

I've recently refomatted my hard drives and upgraded to Win2k, started reloading progs, and all seemed fine until... I realised that bootup was taking a while! I timed it at just over 6 minutes!!! Now I know it's win2k, but that just ain't right. I think it all started to slow down right after I installed the 3Com NIC (for ADSL connection) but can't be certain. I've taken it out but it doesn't improve. It seems slow all the way through the sequence, but maybe the longest part is right at the end of the win2k splash screen (all the blue squares) and before the network pop-up window. I've disabled DCHP but still no improvement.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Question: 10 minute startup

A friend of mine got a newly built computer from a guy with a repair business. It takes over ten minutes to start up. HE tells her thats normal. IT has 1.8 Ghz dualcore cpu, 2 GB RAM, Win XP pro, Norton and Acer logo flashes on the startup screen. I'm guessing some major hardware problems? Maybe something not compatible?

Answer:10 minute startup

Possibly that it has a lot of things running at startup... I say that hose it out in MSCONFIG... or try to refer to my maintenance guide or tweak guides.... many things can slow down your pc at startup.... so these are places to start

hi all, i've just got a couple of 90 minute cd r's to burn a few audio mixes to, but my 1 week old lite on dvd writer only recognises it as 79 minutes.do i need to update nero [version 6] or is it just my drive?ps would i be able to flash my drive to get it to recognise 90 min discs?

Answer:burning a 90 minute cd

All drives will only recognise these disks as 79 or 80 minutes in length as that is the largest size offically according to the standards. I have used 99min CDs. All u do is enable overburn and select Disc At Once (DAO) mode and thats it.Bear in mind that these disks 90/99 mins are not offically supported and many audio cd players wont recognise them.

I noticed that my clock is a bit slow. I think it started happening within the last week or so. Prior to that there were no problems.

It is set to synchronize automatically but I manually synchronized and sure enough it is now correct. So is it not synchronizing on it's own? Any ideas?

Answer:Clock is off by less than a minute.

Mine was doing that too for about a week, it finally caught up.

- Antec Performance Plus F/T case w/ 430 PS

Any suggestions would be welcomed. I'm putting in my order by noon tomorrow before the P4 goes off sale at newegg.

Thanks in advance!

Question: 10 minute internet

My father's computer will only stay on the internet for exactly 10 minutes than it can no longer browse (the connection remains active but IE6 keeps saying no page found). You have to restart the computer to regain the internet (for 10 minutes at a time). Sounds like a funky setting or a virus to me but I have tried the following:
1.ran a full system scan (norton anti 2003)
2.reset IE6 to defaults
3.tried another browser (Mozilla Firefox) (same deal)
4.ran cwshredder (nothing found)
5.ran Hijack this (nothing looks fishy)
6.went to www.aumha.org/a/noads.htm (nothing found)
7.can't find anything under "run" in regedit that I can't account for.
8.Used the last twenty worm removal tools from symantec (none found)

Also the firewall (Zone Alarm) mysteriously disappeared several weeks ago (I just reinstalled it) but I'm not sure if it's disappearance led to a worm getting in or if a worm led to it's disappearance??

This computer is networked with 2 others running XP and the other 2 are not affected. Also the internet will stay on if I run the computer in safe mode with networking but I compared the processes in safe versus normal mode and nothing looks fishy to me.

Anyone have a clue??

I am posting from a different computer than the one with the problems, due to the fact that every time I turn on the other computer, it shuts off before I can even get onto the internet. It is a friend's computer and she is out of town for a while.

The computer is an HP ProBook 4530s, with Windows 7 64 bit and an Intel Core i3. When I turn it on, it comes up with a pop up that says "There was a problem starting C;\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\mpcadf.dll The specified module could not be found."

Recently, this laptop was infected with the Live Security Platinum virus, but it was cleaned by malwarebytes AntiMalware system. I saw a post similar to this, but I cannot get the laptop to turn on long enough to download anything or check anything out.

As soon as I turn it on and load up the user, it sends me a warning that the computer will shut dow in 1 minute. I do not have any options from that, and it will shut down immediately. The battery is fully charged and I cannot find any problems in the few precious seconds I have on it.

Answer:Shutting down every minute

It says "You are about to be logged off. Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save your work now." That's every time I turn on the computer, even in safe mode.

almost brand new computer (about 6 months) running Windows xp. (kinda).
Piece of crap will work great for about a week after fresh install of windows but after that it just goes to the dogs. I perform regular maintenance on it but to no avail it starts hanging, crashing, things stop working all together till i have no choice but to reformat again.
I'm not the smartest guy when it comes to these things but i spent good money on this thing so i wouldn't have to reformat once a week i don't think i should still have to do it.
What the heck is going on with this thing??

I am using Windows XP with a DSL connection. I have had this PC since July and suddenly in December it started taking 10 minutes to boot up. Once it has booted up, it runs as fast as before--only the boot-up is slow. I took it to the place where I bought it and they hooked it up to their DSL modem and it booted up in 1 minute. I was told it must be in the modem that I rent from the broadband service. When I talk to the service, they say that is not possible, it has to be in the PC.

If I disconnect the modem before I boot up, it boots up quickly. No one seems to have a clue what is happening. I am very frustrated and would appreciate any help.

I have run the defrag. I have not installed any programs lately. (I am not particularly tech-savvy.)

Sometimes my browser (IE9) gets hijacked & sent to websites about comparing products, so I thought I'd better check my anti-virus. I noticed Microsoft Security Essentials was not running, and I couldnt start it (message about "service not found" or "unable to start" or similar), so I re-installed. Now it will shutdown the computer after about a minute or two of starting up (some message about finding something nasty & needing to restart), so I've un-installed it, and googled & found the instructions on this website:

Answer:MSE keeps shutting down after 1 minute

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.

hi guru's
if you can't help, I understand. I have a computer I know nothing about. I turn it on, it goes to the screen where I can choose a user. I chose administrator and before my personal settings are finished loading, I get a no signal error.

Answer:no signal after a minute ir so

Something could be sick in there.
Have you tried Safe Mode?
Check all connections inside and out to make sure everything's properly seated and connected? Blow out any dust.
Try it with just one RAM stick, and try different sticks in different slots.
Disconnect all unnecessary peripherals - DVD/CD, Internet, speakers...
Try booting with a Linux disk.
Are the fans running? - probably not on long enough to have an overheating problem though.

My computer WinXP displays a pop up ad every 2 or 3 minutes. I know when and how I recieved it but this time it actually did it's work. One of the pop up ads came up yesterday showing that fake virus scanner and like usual I would just exit out of it. But this one was a bit different and another window came up, exited out of that one as well. I guess after clicking the exit button it activated it and then infected my computer.

These random pop up ads show up every couple minutes and I don't know where to begin to stop this. Im usually very cautious about these and always avoid them, but this has got in to my system. 6 pop up ads have already came while typing this. I have just noticed right now that, while typing, sometimes a letter won't appear as it just skipped the input, every other minute as well. This problem has never occured before. Assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Question: One minute freezes

My Win7x64 home was installed recently by AVAdirect (the computer builder). I haven't seen any BSOD but perhaps a few times a day it freezes for 30 or 60 seconds and then merrily goes on its way as if nothing wrong ever happened. I see lots of warnings in the system health test (attached) but I don't know which if any of these are something to be concerned about. During the freeze the mouse will still move around but the active window says "Program Name (Not Responding)" in the title bar. The non responding program is usually Firefox or Thunderbird but that is probably because those are the programs I use the most. I have seen it happen once in the game solitaire as well. The system configuration information is also attached.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer about how to track down this problem.

~Paul

Answer:One minute freezes

hi
Perform a SFC Scan (System File Check)

1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow

2. Type the following command, sfc /scannow and then press ENTER:

(A message will appear stating that 'The system scan will begin'. Be patient because the scan may take some time)

3. If any files require a replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Windows 7 DVD for this process to continue

4. If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"

5. After the scan has completed, close the command prompt window, restart the computer. (TIP repeat scan 3 times)

Question: 2 minute freeze???

I am working with an Emachine T3065 with XP Home. Everything seems to work great except one problem I am having. When you boot up to the desktop, the PC seems to freeze for about 2 minutes. You can move the mouse and click on icons, but nothing will happen until this 2 minute freeze is up. After 2 minutes everything you have clicked on pops up all at once. After the 2 minute freeze the PC works great. I have used the restore CD to try and fix this problem but it did not help. All help appreciated Ė thanks.

Answer:2 minute freeze???

Maybe you have many unused startup items?

Go to...

Start > Run

then type msconfig on the text field, and click the Startup tab.

You'll see a list there containing all of the softwares running on startup, maybe that's the reason why your computer is running slow on startups. You can always check here so you'll know if that startup is dangerous or not.

You could also try cleaning your hard drive to free some space.

Download CleanUP! from here:

http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/

then install it. Click Options, and set it to Standard.

Click OK, and then run CleanUP! by clicking the button on the main window, CleanUP!

Question: 20 Minute Startup

I've never seen this symptom before, perhaps someone could suggest a solution? My PC running Vista Premium now requires about 20 minutes to startup. When I turn it off and back on, it pauses at the greeting screen that shows the motherboard brand and displays "Press Del to setup, Tab to show POST messages". It's an Asus motherboard. After pausing there for about 20 minutes with no disk activity or sound, it mysteriously wakes up and speeds through the rest of the POST process.

This behavior began after I installed Adobe Acrobat 5 (an old program with known Vista compatibility issues) and got partway through the installation of Trend Micro Internet Security Suite 2009. It was during the reboot caused by that install that this behavior first cropped up.

Anybody know what I should look for in treating this annoying problem? I figure I'll start by scanning the disk with the Trend Micro product, then use Spybot and any other spyware program. I'll uninstall Acrobat 5, of course. The hard drive is fairly new and hasn't given me any problems in the past.

Thanks.

Answer:20 Minute Startup

Start up Windows Defender and click on the 'Tools' tab. From the menu, select 'Software Explorer'. Make sure the 'Category' dropdown box is set to 'Startup Programs' so you are looking at all programs that start up by default from all sources. Examine the left side of the window looking for anything you suspect should not be there or that you consider useless. When you select any one of them, the right half of the screen shows a bunch of info about the source and at the bottom of the screen, you can either 'Disable' or 'Remove' the program. If you are uncertain, you can simply disable it. I suggest you would be better off using the program's 'Uninstall' utility or the Control Panel - Programs and Features to remove anything you decide should be permanently removed. Those removal mechanisms don't always work however (especially with anti-virus programs) so you may have some additional work to do.
