Preferred Solution: Internet extremely slow, computer slow getting slower. HJT report please view.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys, This computer sucks to begin with (very old), but over the last couple weeks it is pretty much unusable. I have it connected to the web on my wireless network. It takes FOREVER to get to any sites. This HAS to be a computer thing and not a LAN thing because the other 2 computer is have are working correctly. I have even plugged this computer directly into the cable modem, and it still is VERY slow. This all makes me believe it is a computer problem.

Also, this computer "freezes" about every mintes for 5 seconds or more on every time. This is making it totally unuseable. Can someone help me determine what is going on with this? Thank you!

I plugged my computer into my home network once I got home from college for summer and the internet connection was extremely slow. (It took about 3 minutes to load Yahoo's webpage.) I am on RoadRunner cable, and all other computers in my LAN run the internet at normal speeds, so that leads me to believe the problem is with the computer itself.

I thought it may be a virus or spyware, etc, but my computer had no problems with internet connection the last day at school, and I didn't touch it before I plugged it in at home. The system itself runs fine, it's just the internet.

I thought maybe the cable was bad, or the port on the router was screwed up, so switched both out and it didn't do anything.

I tried a system restore to a week and 3 days before and that didn't fix it. I took a look at my tasks and stuff and my CPU usage is low, and I didnt see anything that looked odd.

I ran Spybot, with slightly outdated definitions and it found nothing. I ran Ad-aware with fairly old definitions and it didn't find anything. I also did a system scan with McAfee and it found the byteverify trojan, so i deleted that. I didn't update the definitions because it takes about 4 hours to download them with that 1.0kb/s connection. Also ran AVG and it didnt find anything. And if it is a virus or something, why would it not affect me at school and then the very next time its plugged in at home, it would hit.

I booted it up in safe mode with networking and still had the same slow intern... Read more

Answer:Extremely Slow Internet On One Computer of LAN

Maybe a duplex issue. Is this computer connected to a switch? Make sure the nic card has its duplex setting matched to how the switch is. If you can not tell what the switch is set to, set the card to auto and see if that helps

I used Combofix twice (once without downloading Microsoft Recovery Console beccause viruses/spyware had shut down my internet connection; the second time I used Combofix, enough viruses/spyware had been removed from the first run that I could download Microsoft Recovery Console). But now after having used Combofix, my computer and internet connection run extremely slow, and there appears to be some kind of error message when I'm starting up my computer (although this error message runs so quickly that I don't have time to read it).Anyone have advice?-ThanksEDIT: Moved from Software, All Other to more appropriate Am I Infected forum ~ Hamluis.

Hello.

My computer also had difficulty starting up on reboot. It would automatically shutdown. I had to restore from previous restore point. Currently, computer and internet are running slow and sometimes doesn't load up websites. "Unable to locate DNS."

Thanks for your time and help.

Hi there,
I have about 5-6 computers on my network. About two days ago, one of my computer became real slow on getting internet or browsing any sites. All other computers on the network are just fine. I did the speedtest and this computer's speed came as 450 kb/s compared to others as 5 mb/s. Can anyone tell me what could be wrong here. I have not changed anything or loaded any software on this computer. All the sudden, it just became slow. The computer itself is not slow as I can explore my local drive and open other programs just but it is just browsing internet that is real slow.

I ran the Superantispyware but did not find anything critical. I have also ran AdAware and Complete scan through Avast Anti-Virus but had no luck. I had few tracking cookies, even those are cleaned out now. Below is my HijackThis log file. Any help would be appreciated. I really need to get this computer back to normal as this is my workstation at work and I have to fix this problem as soon as possible. Thanks.

Hey guys, I just built my computer yesterday, and while I was at my girlfriends house I was downloading at about 1 mb/s. She had wireless internet through a USB port. Now I am back at my house running a cat5 through a router and I am down to 130 KB/s. What the hell? I was in awe when I saw this and still am, whats going on?

Answer:running extremely slow internet on brand new computer

Do you and your girlfriend have same ISP, and same internet subscription packages ?
What kind of internet connection do you have ?
If you are getting very slow speed than advertised by your ISP, then call them now.

Pretty self-explanatory. I did a system restore to factory settings recently and ran the ThinkVantage system restore tool and updated everything. Now, whenever I put my computer to sleep, it fluctuates between going around 3 MB/s 5% of the time and around 0.01 MB/s the other 95% of the time when it's woken up. The only temporary fix is rebooting.

Recently i've noticed that when i'm on the internet, browsing sites, my internet is extremely slow, and i get the occasional pop up asking me to buy an anti-virus program. These pop ups, may however be due to an msn sponsor program that i participate in.However, i've noticed that when i dual boot onto vista, the internet is much smoother, and all other computers on the network are much smoother. Here is my hijack this log.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 21:20:52, on 10/02/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP3 (6.00.2900.5512)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\wltrysvc.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\bcmwltry.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exeC:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\nTune\nTuneService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrA.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrB.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\WtSrv.exeC:\... Welcome to the BleepingComputer Forums. Since it has been a few days since you scanned your computer with HijackThis, we will need a new HijackThis log. If you have not already downloaded Random's System Information Tool (RSIT), please download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random which includes a HijackThis log and save it to your desktop. If you have RSIT already on your computer, please run it again. Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT. Click Continue at the disclaimer screen. Please post the contents of log.txt. Thank you for your patience. Please see Preparation Guide for use before posting about your potential Malware problem. If you have already posted this log at another forum or if you decide to seek help at another forum, please let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and taking the time of two volunteer helpers means that someone else may not be helped. Please post your HijackThis log as a reply to this thread and not as an attachment. I am always leery of opening attachments so I always request that HijackThis logs are to be posted as a reply to the thread. I do not think that you are attaching anything scary but others may do so. Hello. I have a very basic knowledge of computers, so keep that in mind when directing me with what to do.
My computer is running on Microsoft Windows XP. I use Firefox as my browser and when I do a search in google or yahoo, I am redirected to a bunch of different sites that are not listed in the search. Also, everytime I open the browser, a pop up and new tab comes up that says I won a Walmart Gift Card (with the site address of http://holidaycontest.s3.amazonaws.com). My computer is running extremely slow...to the point that I have to wait about 5 minutes to open a folder on my desktop. Lastly, when I log onto the computer a Run dll error pops up with the dll being ntofpx.dll.
I have run Antivirus software, Malware, Spyware, defragmenter, registry cleaner.
Thank you.

Answer:Internet sites redirecting and Computer running extremely slow!

Forgot to mention that this all started when we got hit with the Microsoft Security Essentials virus, and hotfix was attacking our system. I believe it has been removed, but that was what started everything.

Hi and welcome to TSF.

My name is Iain and I will be helping you clean your system.

You may wish to Subscribe to this thread (Thread Tools > Subscribe to this thread) so that you are notified when you receive a reply.

Please read these instructions carefully and then print out or copy this page to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out the fix. You should not have any open browsers or live internet connections when you are following the procedures below.

Note that the fix may take several posts. Please continue to respond to my instructions until I confirm that your logs are clean. Remember that although your symptoms may vanish, this does NOT mean that your system is clean.

If there is anything you don't understand, please ask BEFORE proceeding with the fixes.

Please ensure that you follow the instructions in the order I have them listed.

Reboot your system in Safe Mode.Restart the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as BIOS.

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer. 1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line. *********************************************************************Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop. Please close all open programs and internet browsers.Double click on a... Hello proliney Welcome to the BC HijackThis Log and Analysis forum. I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system.I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process. In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond the your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine. After 5 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.I read where you said you ran MalwareBytes to no avail. Does that mean it did not find anything or it found something but did not fix the problem? If it did find something please open it back up and click on the button marked Logs and copy and paste the results from it in your next post along with the log from the following program. Please perform the following:We need to scan for Rootkits with GMERPlease download GMER from one of the following locations, and save it to your desktop:Main Mirror

I'm not sure exactly what happened but the result is this...everytime I now try to EXPLORE (left click on START, choose EXPLORE, and click on any drive to view) the response time takes 30 - 60 seconds before anything happens. It is just as long when I try to create a new folder in a drive. This only recently developed...how can I resolve this issue? The only explanation I have is that a software program that I installed must have overwritten some files that pertain to a particular command. I uninstalled the software but the problem remains. Please advise.Carpe Diem,DanSt. Joseph School - Educator[email protected]

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

Hello all!

I'm sorry I have to bother you guys about this, but I really do not know what to do on my own. My computer was recently hit by some popups from Internet Explorer, and eversince then it has been EXTREMELY slow. The internet is not exactly slow, but everything else about the computer is. Starting up the computer takes forever, loading up programs, you name it. The computer itself is not even that slow, and never performed this bad, so I am sure this problem is virus/malware related. I also have been forced to use Mozilla eversince the popup barrage from IE, which I have never exactly liked. Anyways, here is the HiJackThisLog below. Thanks again in advance!

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

Ok, this just happened recently and I don't know what is causing it. I'll try to give u a brief overview of the situtation I'm in. XP used to be on my D driver (74gigs), it got screwed up (BSOD) at the time, I didn't know as much computers, so I installed XP to my C driver (4 gigs). This has worked pretty fine up until when SP2 was released. I can't install SP2 because XP takes up about 4 gigs by itself. Without SP2 I just have been running some extra firewalls so compensate.

Well about 4 days ago, I noticed whenever I open up my computer it takes like 7 or 8 seconds before the hard drivers appear. Then I went into network connections to look at my internet icon (to check the settings). I opened it up and nothing was there. The only thing there was on the far left it was asking me if I wanted to setup a network ( my internet is working on all the computers). I have ran 2 different spyware scans and found nothing, ran mcaffee scans and nothing. I can't restore my computer because all the restores got deleted when I was trying to free space on my drives.

Where do I go, usually I can solve tech problems but I mean this is beyond weird? What do I do first, if you need more information just ask because I really need some advice.

Getting slower and slower. If I try to open something it times out. I've opened the unit and cleaned out the inside, I've defragged, I've run scans. Often images won't show when I open my email. Usually hangs up when trying to open anything. Don't know very much about computers. I'm at a loss! I've used AVG, switched to MSE, used Spybot. I use Firefox, hardly use IE. Please help. Answer:computer is very slow , and getting slower

Firstly, run these two in the order given:AdwCleaner:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run the program. Use the "Scan" button, followed by the "Cleaning" button.Junkware Removal Tool (JRT)http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run JRT. It might appear to have stopped at times or flash the screen but sit tight until it has finished. Then run MalwareBytes once more.Copy/Paste all three logs on here because although there is a fair chance the symptoms will be cured your computer is likely to require more attention.EDIT:Don't bother with HijackThis, it is too outdated to be of any value and malware infections have moved along miles since those days.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

Good day out there, I would really appreciate any help anyone could give me on the problems I'm having with my HP laptop that I lent to my husband's children. When I first got it back it was slow, but as time has gone by it's so slow now that sometimes it can't keep up with my typing.
As I was looking at other people's posts about slow computers w/ high CPU usage (mine is also showing that), I read about looking at the task manager and disabling apps that I'm not using, that take up a lot of memory. As I was doing this and looking for other things I could get rid of I noticed that my D drive is almost full. !7.2 GB is full and 2.49 GB is left I have attached a print screen of the the files that were saved on it. Are they supposed to be saved there and if not is this what's causing my problems? If they're not supposed to be there, is there any way to get them off? Below is my system info. Thanx for any help.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP, Pentium M processor 1.60GHz 304 MHz, 512 MB RAM. My wife uses this computer to work from home, but she also does alot of internet surfing and purchasing. There are numerous issues that I need assistance with if possible. We use Norton Security Center for anti virus and anti spyware. We also use Windows Defender. In addition I have installed UniBlue Powersuite which includes Registry Booster, SpeedupmyPC and SpyEraser. I am comfortable using the computer and doing basic maintenance tasks but am not comfortable at all when dealing with issues such as these and what to do to fix them. We have a DSL connection and use a linksys wireless router to connect other users onto the home network. I realize that the issues below have a myriad of different causes. I assume that they all have similar root causes. if you have any suggestions on other diagnostic tools might help me with the below problems, I would appreciate it also.

1. It takes 10-15 minutes for the computer to start up.
2. The computer is continuously at 80-100 percent of CPU usage and 70-100 percent of memory usage.
3. On start up Corel photoshop attempts to install over and over and over again.
4. When trying to get on the internet it takes 1-2 minutes for IE to load the first page. Once that has loaded it usually goes somewhat quicker, but still much slower than in the past.

Hi everyone.
A few months ago my computer just slowed down completely. It takes over 10 mins. to open outlook express and other apps. Thinking it was a virus that my antivirus programs couldn't pick up I posted a thead in the HJT Forum. After a couple of weeks back and forth with an analyst, it was determined that my computer was infact clear of any malware. Since his efforts could not improve the performance of my pc, he directed me here. The only change I had made to my computer since is an upgrade to SP2.
To assist you I will include a link to my last thread.

Just thought I point this out as it may be contributing to your system slowness.

D: is Fixed (NTFS) - 167.33 GiB total, 33.2 GiB free.

Your using up 83% of your memory, which is ALOT. Also, your primary Hard Drive has 2 GB left on it, which is cutting it close for space. I prefer to leave 30-40% free space, so that the hard drive can perform better.

Also, if you want to free up some more resources I would disable programs from startup up like: BitTorrent & AVG Anti-Spyware.

You can easily call upon them at anytime. No need for them to always be running.

To disable programs from startup:

Start > Run > type msconfig > Click OK
-- Click the Startup tab
-- Look for BitTorrent and uncheck the box

Hi everyone!
Recently and all of a sudden my computer slowed down to a snails pace. It literally takes 10 minutes to open Outlook Express. The only way to do anything effectively is to operate in safe mode. I ran many different anti-virus progams, etc. (one at a time, installing and uninstalling each after use, not to have too many progams working against each other). Each program found many problems and fixed them. Now my computer shows clear of malware, but it sure doesn't act that way. Sometimes I get a message that says my computer is low on virtual memory. What could it be? I really hope you can help. Here is my HJT logfile while running in normal mode:

So I just recently picked up and installed a Comcast SMC Wireless Gateway and since installing it, my laptop running windows 8 is extremely slow. Like I'm getting 1mbps down or less on my laptop. All my other devices and laptops are working fine. I've run Norton virus scan, CCleaner to clean stuff up but Norton's found nothing and CCleaner cleans stuff up but still having problems. Resetting the gateway seems to have no effect. So I was hoping someone here could help me out to diagnose the problem. I'd say it's possibly the gateway but it only happens on my laptop and nothing else. My iPhone, Nexus 7, parents' laptop and siblings' computers all work perfect.
I do run SoulSeek on my computer for sharing some videos that I've put up on YouTube and things and I've tried closing that completely and it doesn't change things. I run Boinc as well but closed that out as well to see if it has any effect and none. Windows is completely up to date. One thing I noticed is in LAN settings in IE options, something keeps making the box 'Use a Proxy for your LAN' get checked and I uncheck it but when I restart my computer that's checked again. I've seen no side effects from this like my browser rerouting itself or anything, but don't know what's causing that to keep being turned on. So if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it, and I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

Hi,

My internet is unbelievably slow. Here is my hijack this file is there something that has caused this? It did it last week as well and I ended up doing a quick restore--the internet was back to normal after that but it's doing it again. Needless to say it took ages to get to this website to post lol

My machine is an older (2 years) emachine, so it's not the best. However it has slowed a lot recently and seems to be getting slower.

I run Windows XP SP3, I have IObit Advanced SystemCare Pro, IObit Malware Fighter, and Norton Security Suite loaded. They are all set to run automatically when computer is idle or I will run manually at least once every 7 to 10 days. Nothing major has been found, just an occational tracking cookie.

This slow down just started about 2 weeks ago and I cannot find a reason for it. I'm disabled and take a lot of powerful medications, so I'm not as computer literate as I used to be. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Has anyone got any advice?I bought my laptop at the beginning of November. It is a Toshiba Satellite C855 6GB 500GB 15.6 Inch Laptop and it's been fantastic. The operating system is windows 7.I access the internet through the wifi at home, and when I'm away, I use an O2 dongle. We went to France for the new year and on the way we stayed in an ibis hotel with free wifi. I tried to connect but couldn't. When we got to our niece's house I tired to connect to their wifi, but although I could open pages and even managed to put a comment on Facebook, it was all so slow I eventually gave up. We arrived back in England yesterday lunchtime and the same thing is happening, the internet is so slow it is hardly worth using it even though the rest of the laptop is running fine and is very fast and we are using the same wifi for our main PC and there are no problems using it. The laptop resources are almost unused and I have McAfee anti virus, which is detecting no problems. I am totally confused - any ideas or suggestions?

Answer:Internet is extremely slow

You could have malware on your system and McAfee (as well as Norton) are well known, but are not as good as the hype and can even slow down a good computer themselves. As a second possibility, you may have McAfee firewall as well as Windows Firewall both activated and this could cause very slow internet.First, install, update, and run Malwarebytes and remove completely all it finds. Then either remove McAfee and install Avast (free version) or Webroot (free trial only) Secure Anywhere (good discounts for 3 or 5 machines and very light on system resources), or at least disable the McAfee Firewall and make sure that the Windows Firewall is active and see if that helps. Finally, do a Disk Clean up and clean out your browser's Cookies, History, Temp Internet Files, etc.. I also recommend setting your browser to delete cookies when closing and reset it to keep history for only 2 or 3 days. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I have an Eee PC that came with Windows 7 Starter. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate because I hated the restrictions with Starter. Everything went just fine. Now it is so slow when I get on the internet that it times out. I don't even bother playing games on my favorite sites. It is just no fun anymore. I am more of a hardware person than software and I am lost. I don't even know where to start. I am on wireless and don't know what settings should be. I'm sure it's probably something really simple and I'm going to feel like an idiot but at this point I'll look the fool if I can fix this. Let me know what other info you need and you'll get it. Hey everyone, I just loaded 64bit Vista Ultimate on my rig, and noticed that my broadband connection (wired, no wifi) is severely gimped. When I boot into XP, a bandwidth test (speakeasy.net) shows ~7mbps. Load into Vista, get 400kpbs. Has this happened to anyone else? My specs are:

Q6600
eVGA 680i SLi mobo, nForce 15.08 drivers
2x 8800GT
4gb RAM
D-Link DIR-625 router, firmware version 1.04
Vista Ultimate 64bit with current drivers and updates

Any input is greatly appreciated, I've been wrestling with the network all day to no avail. Thanks!

I already called my ISP and they checked and said it was not anything with the lines. I already tried in Safe Mode and it was still extremely slow. I can not even download anything at all for the most part. It has never been like this.Tried scanning for spyware and virus and nothing. It just started out of nowhere.Any help would be nice.Thanks.

I have cable internet, which i just clocked at 1517 down/239 up with a latency of 61 ms using http://www.speedtest.net/. However I am not actually seeing those sorts of speeds, what I'm getting is closer to dialup (it took over a full minute to load Amazon.com, for example). I'll go to load a webpage and it will just sit there with an empty progress bar for a little while, then all of a sudden load the whole thing quickly, and it does that with every site. I can't stay connected to WoW for more than about a minute at a time either, and my latency on WoW has hit over 15,000 at least once. My connection has been this way since the 16th; at first resetting my modem and router would fix the problem for about 2 hours but as of a few days ago that doesn't help anymore. AV scan, Ad Aware, Spybot, and Stinger all came back negative so I thought I'd post my HJT log in case something suspicious shows up. Hi,

I can't see anything suspicious here. Please check your firewall settings, or reinstall your Sygate, because in some cases it blocks what it is not supposed to block.
That's one of the reasons why I uninstalled Sygate as well previously.

Hi SiriusMuggle. There is nothing showing in the log so let's look for anything that might be hiding.Download PFind.zip and unzip the contents to its own permanent folder.Important! Reboot in SAFE MODE !!Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:Restart the computer in Safe Mode.As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.Press the Enter key.Locate the pfind.bat file and double-click it to run it. It will start scanning your computer and could take a little while so be patient. My internet is being really slow, it's not just slow but it's almost unusable. Pages take around a minute to load (which is a long time for me) and when they finally load, they're in text version (images don't load). I tried to play Battlefield 3 on my Xbox and it was unplayable. I'm not downloading anything and I can't see what the problem is. I've reset my router and I've did the usual IPConfig stuff but I'm not sure what else to do.

Any help would be much appreciated ,

Hello! I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and lately the internet has been EXTREMELY slow.
I was downloading at a maximum speed of 69kbs! I unchecked a few things in msconfig in the boot and services tabs but nothing... Then I uninstalled AVG and I got it to download at 199-207 kbs but the thing is that in my other laptop running Windows XP I download at around 370kbs or more, but never less than 360kbs!
I really don't know what to do from now on or what the issue might be. This problem happens with both LAN and WLAN connections.

Any help will be really appreciated!

Does this happen on certain hours?

Where are you connected, from your home broadband connection? How many are you sharing the broadband?
Can you please post your speedtest?

Hi, long time since I've logged on here

I started up my PC today, everything was cool. I went out for a bit and when I came back, the internet was going horribly slow. Pages show in text version, some don't load at all. Youtube keeps giving me the 'There was an error loading the video, please try again later'.

I ran a speedtest.net check, I'm getting 4mbps, I normally get 9 or 10 but 4 is fine for me. I'm not downloading anything and the only internet connected program I'm running is Chrome.

Any thoughts?

Answer:Internet being extremely slow

James, You may just have to wait a little bit, as sometimes Bandwidth gets limited due to outside forces. Simple things you might try:unplug both router and modem. wait 15 seconds, plug modem and then router back in
Restart your computer
Try a wired LAN connection
try to download the newest version of your Lan driver (wireless or otherwise), uninstall your current one, and install the new one

I have been having problems with my Internet. It's not my cable connection because I have a few PC's operating off of the same router and they run fine. I've even switched cables with one that I knew was working fine and nothing.
This situation also prevents me from accessing any troubleshooting programs online to help me identify the problem. I don't know if I've contracted a Trojan or what.
Also any online troubleshooting softwares require web access to retrieve updated files and definitions. That's not possible with my current system.

I've tried Firefox and IE. Firefox will load extremely slowly under safe mode. IE won't really load at all.
Seems like the more I tinker, the worse it gets. Now NAV won't run or show up in the system tray.
I've had Norton set to run scan every night but have never found any sign of trouble.

Any suggestions?

Hi

A few weeks ago my internet suddenly going really slowly, like almost dial up speed and I haven't been able to work out why. The computer doesn't need defragging as I do that quite regularly, as well as deleting internet history etc etc. I downloaded ccleaner and gave that a go but that didn't help. I know it is not the connection as my housemate has no problems with his. I have a feeling it could be a virus but I have run avast and it comes up with nothing. I also had a play around with the proxy settings to see if that was th problem but no joy.

Some suggestions would be hugely appreciated.

Cheers

Normally downloading files at 500+kbps i am now downloading them at 7kbps. I have no idea what's going on but it's driving me crazy.. If anyone has a fix to this please let me know, thanks.

Hi,

I just reinstalled windows 7 a few days ago. My internet became really really slow after that, with download speed of <1 Mbpsd. Before it was 70 Mbps. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Answer:Extremely slow internet?

Perhaps your Windows reinstall changed the network adapter drivers. Did you do a Windows Update after the install? Check Device Manager and note which drivers are being used by the device. Did Toshiba supply specific hardware drivers?

Good day everybody,

I've got a laptop under my care which i could really use some help with. I'm somewhat tech-savvy so i hope i can fully understand any help you decide to hand me. So here's the problem:

It's a windows XP SP3 machine which has been in daily use for the past year or so. In which period the laptop has been exposed to numerous different unsafe wireless networks around the world where it no doubt picked up whatever is ailing it. The main problem i've noticed with it is that the internet browser is _extremely_ slow. I mean 10+ minutes loading a google page slow. Oviously this is not normal, and i've been able to determine that it's a software issue by booting the machine into safe-mode with network prompting. In this mode the internet would be exactly as fast as i would expect it to compared to my other machines. Just, regular old fast. So there's a bug in the system. A bug which the ESET NOD32 can't catch or stop, and that's about where my tech-savvyness ends.

I've read forums like this before and i expect you to require a list of such and such program's scan of the system to see which programs are running and whatnot, but i've forgotten the names of these scanning programs and couldn't quickly find them so if someone could name them for me i'll get right on downloading and running them and posting their results.

With kind regards,
Lans

I am not sure if it's my wireless USB(5 years old) acting up or my com is infected with some kind of virus. I did a several test internet speed test between 2 of my com, the one I am using right now have a download speed of 2~4 mbps(infected most likely) while the other one of my com with significantly lower spec have a download speed of 23~24 mbps. Please help me!

Asides from that, my com isn't experiencing any abnormalities.

Edit: All my other cpu have download speed up to 22 mbps except this one. This one also comes with the highest spec but a very old wireless USB. I am really not sure if it's the wireless USB or I am really infected. Please someone!

Hello there,

I am running Windows 7 Enterprize on an Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 550 @ 3.20GHz 3.19GHZ (no idea what I just wrote, coppied it from the system information ). It also uses a 4.0 GB RAM.
I tried dealing with the problem on another thread in VIRUSES AND MALWARE forum.
This is the final post from a user named Broni who helped me out:

It's all perfectly clean.

If you still experiencing some issues...

In this forum, we make sure, your computer is free of malware and your computer is clean
Because the access to malware forum is very limited, your best option is to create new topic about your current issue, at Windows section.
You'll get more attention.

Good luck!

The problems I am encountering are pages loading very slowly or not loading at all (that is after some time I get a message that "internet page is not available". Sometimes after a few refreshes it loads. Preview thumbnails don't always show on FB and videos embedded don't play).
I use Google Chrome but during the tests we did on the other forum I tried IE and Firefox and had the same results. We also tried to connect another PC via the same internet line and it worked fine.

This all started exactly a week ago, before that everything was fine.

I hope you can help me out here.

It would be worth doing a 'sfc' on your system, if only to rule out any simple O/S issues there might be. It's a built-in Windows routine so there's no danger of it causing any more problems, totally safe.
It goes; 'Start' key + X
Press A
New box appears, choose 'Yes'
New box appears; Type; sfc /scannow
(Be sure to put a space after sfc)
You can carry on using the pc while it runs, about 15 mins, when finished close the text box, nothing more to do, Windows will have done any repairs needed.

I have cable internet so that it is faster than dial-up but,all of the sudden, it is very slow in loading pages. Could the problem be with Norton Internet Security? Or, any othe ideas why it would be so slow. Cable company has been out and the modem is fine.

Answer:extremely slow internet

QuoteCable company has been out and the modem is fine.Could you elaborate on that?Did the situation occur almost immediatly after Norton Internet Security? If it is, then it is safe to assume that Norton Internet Security has not been properly configured.

My internet connection is running slower and slower starting on or around the middle of March. Other functions of the computer don't seem to be affected. I ran all the antivirus programs, deleted cookies, did all the things I should do. I went to Manage Add-ons in Explorer just to see if anything had changed since I started noticing the slow down and there have been several new additions as of 03/13/2010 prior to that date was 11/09 and a change about every other month prior to that, but always the same programs, these are new. I have attached a PDF of the files, dates of use, status, ....

I looked up each file and found that Act.UI.InternetExplorer.Plugins.AttachFile.CAttachFile along with any other pertaining to this name has been a problem for several people. They have suggested in different Forums that a HJT is needed. Is this true? If so, where do I go to find the correct program? I disabled any item that referred to Act.UI... and Explorer seems to be running better this morning, but it is still early and it usually starts to slow after a while.

Also, when shutting down my system I have always had it set to Shut Down only now it continually changes to Shut Down and Update System. What is causing the change? and how do I stop it?

I am accomplished in different programs, but not so in the actual programming of the system, so please be as direct in layman’s terms as possible. Thank you for help!!!

When i contacted att they ran a speed test and saw that i was downloading at 44 klb/s they then ran a line check and said everything was fine on their end and i should be around 2 mb/s and said i was sol it was probably a virus/spyware. Firstly Hi from a newbie

My pc is extreamly slow. Opening simple folders on my desktop takes ages, sometimes freezing up, forcing me to use Alt Ctrl delete however when I do the task manager will also freeze leaving lots and lots of its little green cpu usage icons in the task bar I can spend 15 or more min trying to exit them but then that method will also freeze I will then need to turn the pc off at the power switch. I have IE7 when I open it, it is frozen the first time I sometimes can exit without the whole pc freezing, usually on the 2nd go it will open but opening pages takes so long that it times out or may freeze anyway. Start up and shut down is also very slow.
I have managed to down load HJthis also the antimalware I saw on here.
I have included the Hijack log so hope this might tell us something

My PC is running very slow and hanging on everything. I've recently installed Mcaffee which found a bunch of adware but it hasn't helped making it any faster, if anything it's made it slower. I've read several other threads and that does nothing but confuse me more. I've downloaded and ran the hjt program and will post the log. I also only have 128 MB of ram with a P3 930Mhz is that enough ram? Please help!

Thanks!

Answer:Slow as heck computer getting slower.

Hello and welcome to TSF

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. Double click the exe file.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

Click the image to enlarge it

In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ... Sections
IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in your reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed.

Hello, I have a problem. I am having some issues with my laptop which is not 1 year old. The system is very slow. On battery, the computer is almost unusable. I really feel the computer is infected somehow with some kind of malware/spyware software. I want a professional to read my logs. I did all the scan required (GMER and DDS). I really hope to have an answer asap.

I know what you're going to say, Spyware and Virus scan, I already have with AVG 8.0 and with SuperAntiSpyware.
It's so slow. When I play a Two-Dimensional game like MAPLE STORY. I lag. And my specs are NOT bad...I have a GOOD computer..well it use to be. But it shouldn't be THIS slow.
and it HAS been faster before.
I reformatted around a couple months ago.

It has had some problems in the past with overheating, and whenever I turn on my computer, it says..."Your computer has shutdown from overheating, Check your Mother Board, Press F1 to bypass." But...my computer HASN'T shutdown from overheating..it just says that..Which is relatively new.
I literally can't do **** with this computer...and I can't afford a new one right now. 100%CPU Usage is almost NORMAL now. Watching videos on YouTube makes it 100% too.

I don't know what to do...any ideas? ;~;

Hi all, I was hoping you could all shed some light on this situation more so than customer support. As of the morning of the 9th July 2010 my internet speeds dropped dramatically. Im on a 2Mb/ps Tiscali/Talk Talk package and as of yesterday, and today my speeds will not go over 0.13Kbps on any speed test!I have called the support line and done all the appropriate tests.Have just spoke to Tiscali/TalkTalk customer services again. Still no progress, according to them I am receiving the full 2Mbps. Although Im not getting anything close to that my end. Thanks in advance.

Hi!

Before I go on I'd just like to stress how crap I am with computers and stuff, so if someone is kind enough to give me advice, please try and keep it dunce-friendly.

PC: Windows XP
Broadband: Toucan (think it's a Tiscali offshoot)
I'm using a wireless router-come-modem

Recently I've been having lots of trouble with my internet and I have no idea what's causing it. Sometimes it will run as quickly as it's supposed to but most of the time it goes incredibly slow. This has only really occurred during the past week or so.

I'm not sure if it's a virus, because I ran Spybot the other day and it gave me a clean bill of health.

Over the past 2 days, my internet speed has decreased significantly. I used to have no issues with my ping and internet speed. Now, youtube and online games have been rendered on playable. When using the command prompt to ping websites, the average ping is about 400 ms, ranging anywhere from 250 ms up to 700 ms. My download speed has been reduced from it's normal ~125 kb/sec to 10kb/ sec.
This slow internet speed has not just infected this computer, but all computers in my network. I have tried reseating my modem and my router, but neither of these methods worked.
I scanned my computer using both MSE and Malewarebytes, but neither turned up anything. However, upon examining the detected items history in MSE, I discovered that a Trojan horse, JS/Krypterade.A, had been detected on my PC 24 hours ago. There was no warning of this last night; no notifications popped up. This Trojan horse is supposed to be ransomware, but my PC has never been locked up and money has never been solicited from me via fake threats. Yet, task manager is showing multiple dllhost.exe *32 processes (up to 10) that are consistent with this virus. Network iControl is showing that this dllhost.exe is taking up around 100KBps of bandwith. I am beginning to suspect that I have a virus on this PC.
Due to the fact that downloads are excruciatingly slow and I don't have any other anti-virus software on my hands, is there anything else I can do before downloading new software? If it does come down to me being for... Read more

Internet Explorer is at a crawl. I downloaded Firefox but it too works at the same slow speed so I don't think it is actually IE that is the root of the problem. I am a "downloader" of games, programs, etc. so I am sure "something" got in somehow. I run Avast, spybot, adaware, and spyblaster. I recently added AVG anti-spyware, anti-viruses and root-kit. I usually turn off Avast because I know two virus programs can cause problems. I downloaded the AVG about a month or so ago because IE was having fatal errors. I finally went to an older restore point and it started working fine. But now it is terribly slow. I think the problem lies with services.exe. When you open AVG anti-spyware it shows processes running like task manager does but then it goes one step further and shows connections. Listed there is services.exe 12 times! and after a minute the addresses change, and so on. And they always say connecting but NOT connected even now when I am connected to the internet. If I try to turn it off I get an NT error and the computer shuts down. Could the services.exe file have been switched? It is only located in the windows\system32 directory where it should be. Anyone have any ideas? I read something like this somewhere and it had to do with a root-kit but I ran AVG root kit and it only found one thing that has been there for 2 years.

I posted on another existing thread and was advised to start a new one here. So here goes...OK, my internet is running unbelievably slow. If there are any images that need to be opened it takes ages to doewnload them, perhap 3-4 minutes for what would usually take about 5 seconds. I've done all the normal defragmentation, scanned in safe mode, used malwarebytes, C cleaner, Kaspersky, A squared, but nothing has made any difference. I've also tried to turn off any unnecessary programs through msconfig. Nothing is helping though.

Answer:Internet running extremely slow

This scan will help determine if any files have been added or changed on your computer, we need both complete logs.Download DDS and save it to your desktop. DDS.scrDisable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed. Then double click dds.scr to run the tool. When done, the DDS.txt will open.Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:1. DDS.txt2. Attach.txt Save both reports to your desktop then post them please.

I will start off with a post in this forum but suspect I may be referred to a different one.

This past week I have been experiencing problems with Internet Explorer displaying webpages. I am using IE7. Either they are taking ages to display, or when they do load the pictures are not loading. Particular sites I am a regular visitor to are Bebo.com and Facebook.com - neither of them are loading very fast and quite often I'm finding that pictures simply do not display or take an age to appear, I get errors when attempting to access my own photograph albums on Bebo but others are not experiencing any problems.

I suspect that the other problem I am having with uploading listings to my ebay via their free software 'turbolister'. When I attempt to upload listings the software will calculate the cost but it just does not upload the listings when I say to do so. There are no error messages but it is as if my internet access will not upload and the software just attempts but gets nowhere - I end up cancelling the attempt after waiting a considerable time.

Please, can someone advise?

Answer:Internet explorer extremely slow

A quick update to this. I have now upgraded to IE8 hoping that may help ... it hasn't. I've cleared my browsing history etc ... still no job :(

*** I just posted this update and IE said the page couldn't display as I saved it and came up with the connection diagnostic tool ... it says there's nothing wrong with my internet connection.

My son has a wireless connection to this same router and he is not experiencing slow connection speeds.

I've had cogeco high speed internet for almost a year now, no problems, very fast speed, all around awesome

But since the start of this month, it has been brutally slow. I cannot watch youtube videos, it will play, stop, play, stop, etc, even if I pause the video ahead, come back 30 minutes later, it still hasn't loaded up. this is terrible, and extremely frustrating.
Even to register to this site, it toke me 15 minutes.... maybe more, trying to get to my hotmail account toke around 5 minutes for the damn thing to connect... alot of websites wont load up, or will take ages.... very frustrating and i seek your help

I use firefox 3.0 i believe, not IE. I've tried my connection on IE, and its about as slow as firefox, and firefox is fast, when my connection was nice and healthy off course

I'm pretty sure i do not have any virus/spyware/adware. I use Avast !, spybot-search and destroy, Ad-Aware, CCleaner, SuperAntiSpyware and Comodo firewall. i Scan regularly, and find nothing.

So i don't know what is causing all this. and its pissing me right the hell off. Please help me out guys. You will probably ask me to download hijack this, though i am not sure how to use it

Thank you in advance !

Answer:Extremely Slow Internet Speed

Start by reading this:Slow Computer?, Use this troubleshooting checklistDo you have a desktop computer? If so, when was the last time the innards were cleaned?http://www.wikihow.com/Clean-the-Inside-of-a-ComputerEdit to add: there are other reasons why a computer will run slow.A hardware issue is one. Another one a lot of people don't think about is their firewall and antivirus may not play nice with a system. If you have a security suite, it could possibly be that causing the problem.

I'm running a Pentium111 256RAM 20gig 98SE OS (a dinasaur I know) machine with both IE6 and Mozilla as my browsers. I have Trend PCcillin security suite running and regularly run Spybot S&D, Adaware SE, and Registry Mechanic. I also frequently run online scans as another layer of protection. Everything comes up as clean on my scans.
Recently, my refresh rate on my browsers has dropped to ridiculously slow speeds (averaging 15-20 secs or more per page). I had my cable company walk me through a diagnostic check of connection speed and packet loss for my connection. My cable is averaging 750 kbs/sec with little to no packet loss. These are very respectable #s.
This leads me to conclude that my problem lies within my machine, with either the hardware or some software. I thought it might be the PCcillin, but even when I disable it I continue to have the same SLOWW refresh rate.
Anyone out there know how to address this? Trying to surf the web has become a painful experience for me. HELP!!!

Answer:Extremely Slow Internet Speed

There are two things i would recommend. First would be to run Disk Cleanup. You will find that in System Tools. This will remove old coolies, internet temp files and your internet history. Second set your internet History to 0 or 1 day, instead of the default 20 days. You will find that under Internet Options in IE. This will force IE to retrieve a new page each time instead of trying to access a cache page in you temp files. One more thing is I would clear your Rcache. Go to Start> Run> cmd> ipconfig /flushdns

Hi, I've been experiencing very slow internet speeds for the past week. Web pages barely load and if they do it takes several minutes. I've ran a virus scan, adware and spyware and all is fine. Also used ccleaner.

Download speeds are almost non-existant. Usually under 4 kb/s however occassionaly I'll get a spurt and it will download incredibly fast for a minute or so then back to extremely slow.

Intenet Explorer crashes a lot now too. I'm also now getting an iexplore.exe application error when I close my browser. Instruction at ox7e1f9b14 with ref memory at oxo189a3bc. Memory could not be read. I've been unable to find out anything regarding that code. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Extremely Slow Internet Connection

With the iexplore.exe error, I would suggest trying a different brower to see if the problem persists. I would suggest Opera or Firefox. If the problem still persists, I would try a system restore to the closest date on which the problem started. Hope that helps.
