Preferred Solution: AMD Radeon R9 Fury specs allegedly confirmed ahead of launch

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I need some help.
I just bought a new computer that I cant get to run any 3D games.
It works fine with everything non gaming related but when I start up games like
black ops 3 , gta 5 , project cars, rust , wildstar I get in the menu and can start the game.

But when inside the game when its finished loading I might be able to play for 2-10 seconds
and the screen goes black (shows a disconnected hdmi cable icon on monitor) while the audio
keeps running in a loop for 4 minutes. Then the audio and lights on my Razer keyboard and
mouse dissapears. Meaning both the speakers and mouse/keyboard loses connection to computer
aswell.
I've tried pressing alt-enter, alt-f4, ctrl-alt-delete, alt-tab but it dont help.
I have to press the power button down for 5 seconds and reboot.
The things I can play with great success however is League of Legends, Diablo3 and
Adventure Capitalist. Ive play these games for hours no problems except for one:
In League of legends I can only play on the map Summoners Rift, if I play on the higher
graphically intense map "ARAM" i sometimes get back screen.
Oddly enough 3D Mark Advance benchmark program works fine. Ive ran it about 30 times

Confirmed: Windows 10 Creators Update (Redstone 2) to Launch in April

The Windows 10 Creators Update is still in the works at this moment, and there are rumors indicating that Microsoft is aiming for an April release if testing and bug fixing go according to the plan.
And while Microsoft remains completely tight-lipped on its Creators Update timing plans, Dell, which is currently one of the most important partners of the Redmond-based software giant, revealed that launching the new OS update in April is indeed what the firm is aiming for.

Any other details are not yet known, but if Windows 10 Creators Update, internally called Redstone 2, launches in April, there?s a good chance it?ll be labeled version 1704 in order to correspond with Microsoft numbering strategy that aligns versions with release dates.

Previously, it was believed that the Creators Update would launch in March, with some people saying it could be finalized as version 1703, but now it looks like the company pushed the release back for one month and it?s aiming for April to introduce the new OS.

New hardware coming alongside Redstone 2?
What?s also interesting to note is that Microsoft could use the April unveiling to present its latest hardware as well, with some sources pointing out that Redmond could take the wraps off the next-generation Surface Pro and Surface Book models alongside the Windows 10 Creators Update.

The Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book 2 are both expected to see daylight in ... Read more

Answer:Intel 'Skylake' pricing and box art hit the web ahead of official launch

Got tired of waiting and bought 4690k months ago. Giving todays exchange rate, paid exactly $230+VAT. Probably saved some on DDR3 vs DDR4, maybe s1151 MOBOs will be also more expensive on release, while You can buy s1150 on sales and specials. What I don't get is the sentence: 'If so, what CPU are you upgrading from or are you building an entirely new PC from scratch?'? It's not like You can upgrade just Skylake, have to basically build a new PC: CPU, MOBO, RAM. If You play building your PC, rest is usually left over from previous builds.

Hi, I'm new to the community, but thought I'd post my recent experience just incase anyone else has any similar queries. So I recently purchased a ex office based Thinkcentre M58 6258 SFF for £30. Intended as a stop gap before I can afford a better rig. It came shipped with Hynix 4GB PC3-8500 1066MHZ ram, 320GB HDD and a Core 2 Duo e8400. Really decent performance for the money but I wanted that something extra for casual gaming and also because this will be my main music production centre for the time being. After spending around a week trying to find any confirmed working decent spec graphics cards, how much ram this actually takes, compatible CPUS, whether the PSU can handle it etc,  I took the plunge. So I can confirm that I am now running a Core 2 Quad Q9550, Corsair XMS3 10GB (2x4GB & 1x2GB) PC3-1066 1333MHZ DDR3 and a Dell AMD Radeon HD 8570 1GB low profile SFF graphics card. SSD drive is on it's way. This has been running for nearly a month now, no hitches and the psu doesn't seem to be working any harder than it did previously. Note that the latest bios dated 5/6/2012 has been applied (link below) and all latest chipset drivers direct from Intel. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds013586 Hope this helps somebody out, because all these upgrades cost me around £120. So for £150 or just over this is a great little rig that should serve me well for a while.

I have a RADEON IGP 345M im my sony vaio pcg-k17 laptop from my step-mom because i needed something for when im on the go and for when i need to do gaming i got the laptop back in the very end of 03. have you gamed on it before? i received a 2.4ghz pentium laptop and thought i could handle gaming well enough 512megs of ram, Radeon 8500(which is good enough for warcraft in 800x600) but it is so hot that even with extra active cooling on the bottom it shuts down within 10 minutes of starting the game. so even fi it CAN play it may not work for long.

Radeon HD 3850, 3870 Specs Leaked

For those of you that haven?t seen this yet, it would appear that Radeon HD 3850, 3870 specs were accidentally leaked (in the form of product packaging). TechConnect Magazine was quick enough to grab screenshots before the product images and specs were pulled.

The three cards available are the 512MB Radeon HD 3870 and the 512 and 256MB version of the HD 3850, unfortunately only the first and last being actually detailed. The Radeon HD 3870 page includes some interesting information like the core clock which is claimed to be 775 MHz and not the rumored 825 MHz (the memory clock is at 1200 MHz - 2400 MHz DDR as expected). The rest of the specs are in line with the information already available, DirectX 10.1 support, 320 Stream Processors, 256-bit memory interface, Crossfire X support and built-in 5.1 audio.

I have the above TFT monitor. All the descriptors, including web reviews and the manual that came with it, says it has DVI output but there is only a VGA output on the monitor. I have a DVI outlet on my graphics card to which I have connected the monitor using a DVI/VGA convertor and a normal VGA cable. The monitor works well although no different than using the VGA outlet on the card.

My question is: Surely if it is DVI it should have a DVI output on the monitor?

Over the weekend I picked up a used HP Deskjet 1120C, then downloaded the available "driver" software from HP and let it install itself. It comes in one big self-extracting file called dj171en.exe. Even without the printer itself connected, the 1120C automatically got set as the default printer and I had to cancel the setting in order to go back to my old printer . I now had an icon on my desktop for the 1120C "toolbox".

By tonight I'd picked up the ink I needed and was ready to try the thing out. It successfully printed its "self-test" and "diagnostic" pages, the ones you can request just with the two buttons on the front panel. From the "toolbox" it printed another self-test page and some alignment patterns. From Word 97 it printed, again successfully, a test document with lots of colors in it that I'd been using to test ink cartridges with. There was no question that the printer was installed and printing.

For no reason beyond curiosity I took a peek in System Information. Under Components | Printing it showed, as expected, three printers installed including the 1120C:

Question: Norton Fury

I run Windows XP Home. A fortnight ago, I discovered I couldn't update my Anti-Virus online and so I sent to PC World for Norton Internet Security (as I don't live in a large town.) This installed without hitch, as did Save and Restore, which is supposed to be an improvement on Norton Ghost. However, yesterday morning there was a red X on my Norton icon, and an error message saying I should Fix a problem, ie. Auto Protect, which wouldn't work. This proved not possible, and so I uninstalled Norton Internet Security, plus Save and Restore (which was necessary to do the former) and then reinstalled. All works fine now. What I need to know is - is this likely to be a regular occurance, as there was no special reason why it happened in the first place? I spent a whole morning just to get back to how things had been when I switched off the evening before.

Answer:Norton Fury

rosie, the judgement about Norton is still out there and you will find ardent defenders and opponents of norton products, it sometimes appears like a fight good against evil...Speaking from experience,it unlikely that some unexpected occurance like you described takes place again.i have no answer about the "why it happened".If you ever need to unistall a Norton product-Norton has its own unistall programme: click herewhich you need to follow to the letter.

Question: Webcam lag fury!

My girlfriend and I live a couple of hours apart for the time being. We use logitech webcams for video dates in the meantime. She got hers from walmart and I think it's one of the more entry level models. I thought I was being smart and I bought the C910 which is HD capable, but its total overkill. Anyway, for the most part our video chats are smooth. On occasion the audio from her end is garbled and I miss words. Sometimes the image freezes as well. She says that my picture freezes up quite frequently. We use Logitech Vid HD for now, but I'm not overly impressed. I have no reason to believe that I'm sending or receiving in HD at this point. Let me describe some background stuff so I can get specific advice, if possible.

1) I have a desktop pc with wired gigabit internet.
2) She uses a laptop with wireless internet in a top-floor apartment in a building mostly made of metal. Even when we talk on the phone, she can move around in her apartment and have the call get dropped. I think this is the #1 problem here. The router for her internet is downstairs from her.
3) I'm not sure if I'm totally not to blame, sometimes Vid HD will tell me that MY call quality is low. I had a USB port short out a month ago, I'm not sure if that might be messing me up.

My girlfriend is a peach, but she can't make heads or tails of any technical talk, even when I try to put it in plain terms. I have a very hard time telling her that 'it's your terr... Read more

As my post says I need the specs of both drives, paticularly the type of termination (active, etc). (I am definately NOT a SCSI savvy person)

Heres my problem I have a proprietary graphics computer that uses standard SCSI hard drives up to about 340mb for saving images. It is compatible with most Quantum LPS/Prodrive and Conner drives, especially the 120mb and 270mb versions.
Anyway I got a large number of IBM WDS3160's due to the lack of the latter and they do not work properly.

With the ibm drives I have problems with line noise and detection.

What is the difference (electronically) between an IBM WDS-3160 and a Conner 30100 drive? Is there any way I can get the IBM drive to function similarly to a Conner 30100?

Please note that I am only using one drive in the system.

Thanx for any help

Answer:Need IBM WDS-3160 specs and Conner cp30100 specs major trouble

I believe I've found a difference between the two drives, it seems that the conner unit automatically enables SCSI parity and the ibm drive makes no mention of it.
Do any of you think this could be the issue? If so how would I enable parity on the ibm drive?

Thanx

Well, I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think it would find it because USB wasn't around when it was released...USB support wasn't included in the original Windows 95. And it wasn't supported at all in Windows NT.

Ok, I got a friend who has a:

K7 Triton 400 Gigabyte Motherboard
Model: GA-7VAX-A

And a Fury Rage Pro video card

has a problem.. He JUST GOT his new motherboard and now when he tries to run anything in 3D his computer stalls or everything goes black. His video card worked fine with his old motherboard so I just assume it's a compatibility issue. Can anyone help? RSVP.

Answer:GA-7VAX-A and Fury Rage Pro don't mix... -_-

Ideally, you would not want to use such an old card with a new motherboard. Without looking up the specs on this board I assume it only does AGP 1.5V cards not 3.3V cards which the Rage Pro might be?

Another question... was the harddrive formated and all the new drivers installed for all the hardware(downloaded from the internet) or was the harddrive moved from another system with windows 98 already installed? If moved this could be the problem - soemthings moving Windows has odd side effects if it is not format and reinstalled.

The XFX R9 Fury will not show a signal. Most of the time it will power on, the pink light will turn on for a split second then go off, the fans go to full speed and no signal shows on the monitor. Every now and then the light will stay on for about half a second and the monitor will show a split second of the first Dell boot up screen before the light and screen go off and the fans go to full speed.
old HD7870 GPU works fine. So far I have tried; updating the BIOS, resetting the CMOS, removing all old display drivers, using a different HDMI, removing all hard drives.  Even upgraded the PSU from a corsair CX500M to a corsair CX850M. Still no luck.
Are there compatibility issues with the Vostro 430?

OK, I know it shouldn't be done and I shouldn't bother, but how can I have users with different levels of security in XP Home?

My options now are

Administrator or Restricted

thats good and all but my client wants to set his son as restricted but then he can't run pre XP computer games.

I have tried running them in windows 95, 98 2000 whatever compatability modes to no result.

have also tried hacking the boot ini to let me boot up in safe mode and changeing the folder permissions for that user but this also does not work.

it is thus very annoying that only the Admin users can play these old games and not 'restricted' users any advice?

I couldn't get MS Fury to run with my joystick until I tracked down this fix. It runs fine with a Logitech Attack 3 USB joystick on all my XP and Vista machines with the following procedure:

Right click- Fury Icon on desktop
Select- Properties
Select- Compatibility Tab
Check- Run this program in compatibility mode for:
Select in pulldown- Windows 98/Windows ME
Select-Apply

I haven't tried it with Windows 95 selected in the pulldown.

Which Intel P4 Processor and what storage options to use?

Hello everyone. I need to spec out a new testing PC for work, so I'm asking for some opinions. The role this thing will play is a VMware test machine. I will be creating VMware images to run application tests, break/fix, troubleshooting, etc. The operating systems on the images will likely be Server 2003 and XP. So I was thinking of 2 gigs memory, but that may be too conservative. The help I really need is with the CPU and storage. I obviously want a multi core/hyperthreaded CPU, but which one? Hot swapapble RAID would be nice, but what level, and do I need a stand-alone RAID controller or can I use the mobo's?

Thanks all, in advance.

Answer:Specs I need, give me specs. Opinion Sollicitation for work PC...

The Xeon Line of CPU's usally do very well in a server like setup. Alot of the time you can get the dual CPU motherboards. If you perfer though maybe one of the new Intel Dual Cores will run well, although im not sure, most servers I know of run dual Xeon's.

As for storage, if you have the money, get SCSI contolers and RAID SCSI drives. They are alot quicker.

And 2GB of RAM seems fine.

Purchased a new Dell XPS desktop from Best Buy May 2016. Stock RAM is unknown 8GB x 2.
Bought some Kingston memory from Amazon to add to this machine, I purchased Hyper X Fury HX421C14FB2/8 DDR4 8GB 2133 Mhz x2 and when it came, installed in my machine two empty RAM slots. Shut off power, restart machine (Windows 10) and machine did not boot, only got flashing amber power light, 2 flashes, then 7 flashes, then repeat...
Removed Hyper X RAM, machine boots normally as before.
Kingston website memory finder tool says I should have bought Kingston KCP421ND8/8 8GB
Not sure what the difference is, if any? Anyone have any insight into why this Hyper X Fury did not work? Any idea if I can use this Hyper X Fury RAM or am I hosed and just get the RAM recommended by the Kingston website app?

It is just about 2 years old 32 meg video card. I hope someone out there finds it to be familiar.

I just tried to install Links 2003 and the system is telling me that I do not have 3D video.

I have tried to get info on the video card but so far no luck in determining the 3D capabilities.

Does anyone know if it is a 3D card, or how to use the computer to determine whether or not is?

I had suspected a lack of driver because the Device Manager shows the WinXP driver as the installed driver for the device. I tried to download a new driver but it said I had the latest.

I have finally given in to friends telling me that I should upgrade to XP from 98SE and now find that both my video card and sound cards cannot find a correct driver. The video card is an ATI rage Fury Max dual processor and the sound card is an Aureal2 or Sonic Vortex2 (depending on if you believe the box/manual or IRQ printout that I keep, not sure what the connection is here).
My system is an ageing Athlon K6/2 450 with 320Mb RAM and a 90Gb HD. 98SE worked OK but I now want to benefit from XP having seen it on my laptop.
I know the processor isn't the fastest but it is within the MS minimum specs.
Can anyone help with drivers or should I just reformat and reinstall 98?
(a new pro & m/b are presently beyond my budget)

I have a Gigabyte 970a-ds3p MB and just to get it going I stuck in a phenom ii x4 955 (the 95w tdp) and a 8gb hyperx fury 1600. Cpu-z shows it running 1333 (actually 1339). I have looked every where and similar problems show changes in BIOS, most to enable XMP. Hyperx fury doesn't use profiles and it is automatic set. The BIOS registers it as a 1600 stick but not real time speed. I thought it might be a limitation of the CPU but many people have posted phenom ii 955 with ram at 1600 stable. I haven't tinkered with BIOS, I was familiar with some AM+ BIOS and they were delicate so I didn't want to go stomping around in this one even though I've heard they are forgiving. Any one familiar with this want to give me some suggestions? The BIOS version is FD.

Let me give some quick background on my situation.

I installed a (rather old, 5+ years) Hauppauge WinTV-FM tuner card into my machine and downloaded and installed the latest drivers straight from the manufacturer. Installation resulted in a BSOD with an error in STREAM.SYS. I tried the installation a second time after restart (why? I couldn't tell you) with the same result. Initially after the fubar'ed install I had maybe five different highlighted items in Device Manager with some sort of error, including my optical drives (!) and sound card.

Since then, I have removed the tuner card and gotten Device Manager to recognize all hardware as installed and working properly. However, as stated in the title of this post, I can't get any sound or even select a default audio device. (see attachments) I've tried uninstalling the sound card via DM and even went so far as to manually delete all drivers listed in Driver Details so XP could rebuild them all from scratch. I've set the BIOS sound card setting from Auto to Enable.

I think it's some sort of "residue" from the botched hardware install, I'm just having a hell of a time pinpointing what actually is corrupted.

I've been poking and prodding this thing for two days with no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated!

-Kyle

Question: AGP confirmed

Well I was off of school today(teacher workshop). Dad was at work. i finally opened up my computer. AGP is confirmed! I should have listened to all you guys anyways but i wanted to be sure. Also, is my old GeForce4MX in one of the white PCI slots? It came with the computer. Thanks.

Answer:AGP confirmed

Not knowing what mobo you have, it would be hard to say what colour your AGP slot is. But your GeForce card is the one with the monitor attached to it, or the only card that can have a monitor cable attached to it. Are you replacing it? With what? You prob only have an AGPX4 slot in that mobo so anything over a GeForce 5200 (or ATI equiv) would be a waste of money, but that's just my suggestion.

Just bought a 19" Gemstar LCD flat screen monitor. It works perfectly when plugged into my laptop. On my PC however, it only works in safemode and normal bootup with the lowest resolution (600x480 8bit). I have to press f8 during normal boot up though and select "enable vga mode" everytime so it will show the desktop with the lowest resolution. It would've been fine, except that the screen seems way too large than what I'm used to, can't even see the bottom areas to click the ok or cancel buttons on some settings. Can't change resolutions either, whole thing just restarts the PC. If booting up normally without pressing f8, a blank screen just comes up after the initial boot up and XP logo screens. Also tried to disable my start up items to see if it might be other software problems/conflicts possibly causing the invalid mode but all that did was cause my PC to give a nasty error that I've had to resolve.

I have Windows XP Pro SP1 and an S/I ATI Rage Fury 32mb/TV cmpl video card. Does anyone know if updating the video card fixes the problem and if so, which driver needs to be installed? Tried searching the net for this problem, the nearest one I found is the thread but it still doesn't answer or help with my dilemma:

Newegg.com is selling the 15.6" IdeaPad Y550P with Win 7 64-bit Home, an Intel Core i7 720QM(1.6GHz) processor, 4GB RAM, a 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 240M graphics card, a 500GB HD, etc for $899.99.  They are also selling the 15.6" ThinkPad T510 with Win 7 32-bit Professional, an Intel Core i5-520M(2.4GHz) processor, 2GB RAM, integrated Intel graphics, a 250GB HD, etc. for $1029.99.  The ThinkPad is advertised with 6.3 hrs of battery life compared to 3.5 hrs for the IdeaPad.  Nevertheless, the specs for the IdeaPad seem much stronger than those for the ThinkPad.  What am I missing that explains the significantly higher cost of the ThinkPad?  Thanks.

Answer:IdeaPad Specs vs ThinkPad Specs

A few (highly opinionated) observations that won't help much: My kid has that Y550P and he loves it.  He's a gamer. I'm not a gamer and don't need high-end graphics and the associated battery drain. I run ThinkPads and I love them.  Personally I won't own a laptop that doesn't have a trackpoint.  You may not care. ThinkPad support  is excellent, IdeaPad support is spotty. ThinkPads generally have full international warranty.  IdeaPads vary. The T510 battery life recommends it to road warriors. 2G of RAM and a 32-bit OS are not sufficient for a modern laptop.  I would not buy this T510 unless I planned to upgrade the RAM and hard drive.  And I would not buy a 32-bit OS in any case.  It kills the possibility of upgrading (and using) RAM later. Neither of these machines has sufficient graphic resolution IMNSHO.  My kid is happy with x768 vertical, but I tend to run virtual machines and other apps that add lots of window decoration and use up pixels.  I need every one of the 900 vertical on my T400. I bought my kid's Y550P from NewEgg for $100 more than the current price.  It was a good deal then and is a great deal now.  My ThinkPads are purchased by calling Lenovo sales directly.  They often have discounts available that don't show up on the web.  I got my T400 for ~$400 less than the web price at the time. YMMV,Z.

In a security advisory , Microsoft acknowledged that a bug in SMB (Server Message Block), a Microsoft-made network file- and print-sharing protocol, could be used by attackers to cripple Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 machines.
The zero-day vulnerability was first reported by Canadian researcher Laurent Gaffie last Wednesday, when he revealed the bug and posted proof-of-concept attack code to the Full Disclosure security mailing list and his blog. According to Gaffie, exploiting the flaw crashes Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 systems so thoroughly that the only recourse is to manually power off the computers. Confirmed: Windows 7 Zero-day Bug

....Just a lot of people may not notice it much or be that bothered by it. Personnaly I cant stand it.

In short, wi-fi latency has gone from consistently under 1ms on XP, and vista AFAIK, to anywhere between 2-50ms. To your own router!

I have done many tests and pretty much isolated its the OS. I have tried it at friends places as well, and their windows 7 x64 does the same, ping's are around 3-8. They dont have that initial spike, but otherwise the same as me.

Give it a go, if you are running 7 preferably 64 bit 7, find your wireless routers IP address, open cmd from the start orb, and in there type

ping "your routers IP adress" -n 100

so bassialy if yor ip is 192.1.1.10 you type

ping 192.1.1.10 -n 100

And watch the pings roll by.

Heres the aboslute best results I have gotten. Pings are worse now, about 3,4 4, 6, 4, 3 etc.

Anything over 1ms consistently is just a joke.

Answer:I think I have confirmed we ALL have W7, wi-fi issues

I also noticed this right away when I first upgraded. I am guessing it has to do something with IPV6, auto speed/duplex configurations, MTU size, window receive auto tuning or possibly it's WPA implementation. I remember back in the day I had an iMAC G4 that had really slow wifi performance. I shut off WEP at the time and the speed skyrocketed and latency went way down, I found htat the fix was WPA2, but my router didn't support it so I left security off until I upgraded everything includign the iMac.

Hi folks,

VMware already supports this but now VirtualBox seems to do it as well...
This is just to note that we can finally install Windows as a VirtualBox VM using UEFI.

Latest changes in version 4.3.20 made this possible.

EFI: fixed a bug in the EFI video driver which prevented Windows to boot in UEFI mode (bug #12022)

After seeing that line I got pretty curious in giving it a try.

Currently installing the Win10 Tech Preview x64 with EFI enabled:

So far so good...

It's still experimental but that was the word that got my attention in the first place.

The boot and install resolutions are by default 1024x768 instead of the basic 640x480 and 800x600 respectively.

So we can clean install an UEFI OS but also recover from backup images.
With UEFI VMs we can test system images / backups made on UEFI hosts without the need to convert disks to MBR or installing directly on the host. The data disks are now formatted in GPT.
For instance I use Macrium Reflect or Easeus Todo Backup which are confirmed to work with UEFI images.

This works already in VMware Player and Workstation but older versions of Virtualbox never managed to get Windows (x64: Vista, 7, 8, 10p) past the boot logo in UEFI mode, till now.

Cheers!
Hopachi

Answer:VirtualBox (U)EFI Boot Confirmed

Update from first post; It's installed:

A proof that it's a UEFI VM: disk is GPT.

I used pretty standard install settings, selected Win 8.1 as VM version.
The graphics is still fixed @1024x768 since the VM Additions driver doesn't work yet. But I'm pleased with the results so far.

Looks pretty disappointing in my opinion, core speed isn't anything special considering what's out right now, and I'm a bit suprised that there is only 256MB VRAM on that thing, especially when you get a look at how big it is. The card is too big for my likes anyways, which seems particularily odd when the r520 shots I've seen don't look much bigger than the x850.

I was at the AMD/Microsoft Tech Tour yesterday in Atlanta and wanted to know more about the new version of Windows. I had heard about WINFS and that seemed to be one of the biggest improvements for the new version. I had heard that they may not include WINFS in Longhorn. They did, in fact, confirm that it will not be in the initial release of the next version of Windows, but that they may introduce it at a later time into the OS. So now I am wondering what is there going to be that will be more efficient in the next version of Windows?

Answer:Confirmed...WINFS will NOT appear in Longhorn

its hard to put efficient and windows or microsoft in the same sentence. the new version will have a more flashy desktop, and take more resources to do it. i think thats good? lol

It's been over 4 years since microsoft released windows xp, and even today they are coming out with "cricical updates" and finding big security holes. I can't wait to see how the next version runs.

After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around..
In your next post, please make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order:

CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
Bitdefender - from step 6
Panda Scan - from step 6
runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs![/FONT]

Palomino 2200+ Confirmed!

Posted 4/05/02 at 10:54 pm by Rat

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/story.html?id=1018065284

We have recently received a word from our reliable source that AMD is going to launch one more processor based on the old 0.18micron Palomino core before the new 0.13micron Thoroughbred based CPUs come out. Today this info got confirmed.

One of our readers (special thanks to Shaun L) sent us a picture of Athlon XP 2200+ based on the Palomino core.

This way, we are absolutely sure that very soon AMD will really announce a new Athlon XP (Palomino) with 2200+ rating. New Athlon XP will work at 1.8GHz core clock frequency and will support the same Vcore as the previous Palomino based CPUs: 1.75V.Click to expand...

Gosh.. I wonder how hot this CPU will be... Gasp...

Answer:Palomino 2200+ Confirmed...

Yeah, AMD is pushing it with this one..It is like the 1.4 T-Bird. It shouldnt have been released due to heat issues in my opinion. Well, with the Thoroughbred getting more and more press this 2200+ cpu probably wont see that great. What it will do though is lower the price of the rest of the XP family and make the 1800+ a good buy for someone looking for a deal.

Hello o/, as stated above i am hacked ..well my pc was and it was confirmed by hackers themselves indirectly within an MMo ( prefer not saying the name ) i am playing. Possibility of doing so were caused of informations and tactics in pvp spying. They explicitly knows everything i typed or discussed wth my mates and friends, down to every single letter ( good thing i juggled my passwords, so they maybe get confused if they use keyloggers ). i am not sure if they even capable of seeing what is on my screen or voice chat too. If that is even possible.

I used Window 7 SP1 ( updated to most current updates )...yes for only having 1 antivrus ( Norton Symantec ) that time since the pc was only dedicated for gaming ( no other inet activties except casual browsing to teh game websites , and not shared with anyone ), i didn't expect it to be infected by anything ( yea i am that ignorant ).

When i leaned that i was hacked i have downloaded EST , Bitdefender , MalwareBytes, Kaspersky AV, Emisoft Emergency Kit, Hitman Pro, Spybot S&D and few more  AV and Antimalwares programs, scanned my pc in normal and safe mode. Even tried doing rescue scan with Bitdefender Rescuse CD/Thumbdrive  in safemode but none worked in finding the culprit hackware or spyware or viruses ..except for some tracking cookies related to my inet browsers.  ( All this while being taunted by the hackers in the game everytime i logged into the game because they know everything i di... I was testing the SP2 beta, having a problem with Windows Update v5 and sent a help request to MS.They said that it was a problem with the v5 Beta of Windows Update but the full/final version of the site was coming out on the 10th so the problem would be resolved then.Hopefully this means that SP2 will be out the same or the next day?(btw I've not had any other problems at all with the SP2 beta across our network at all. Microsoft may have got it right! The only problem I may be having to go round to every user pressing yes or no to all the security questions it throws up first time round)

Answer:XP SP2 Release Date Confirmed?

I have been running SP2 beta for two weeks now with only a couple of minor problems however saying that it did replace Media Player 8 with version 9 i prefer V8 but unable to reinstall it.I do find that i get very few Windows updates now.

I thought we knew about this months ago.... i did anyway.

They already have taken so much out of longhorn why even get it. sigh

i am using xp pro and i only display 3 icons in the quick launch area of the taskbar. they are a/v, speaker vol, and firewall. these used to show up within seconds of the desktop being displayed. however, the a/v icon pops up right away, on startup, but the speaker and firewall icons wont show up for 2-3 minutes. during this time, the machine s usable (slightly slow). now i use Codestuff Starter v5.6.1.19 to control my startup items and only the 3 previously mentioned are included there. when this first started, i did a restore from when it was good and that didnt help. i am not adverse to a format if necessary. i need your help/advice and tkz in advance, aloha

I have had this software installed on my computer for over 1.5 years now and never had this issue. All of the sudden whenever I launch Acrobat Reader 8 Professional. I get the error message saying I must launch at least one other suite program before it will run. It comes up with this error... even though I'm already running Photoshop and Illustrator.

The only thing I can think of is that I just recently downloaded and installed Adobe AIR for TweetDeck. Does anyone know if this could cause the problem or how to fix it?

I can't run TweetDeck without the Adobe AIR????

Hello,

I was infected with the FBI moneypak virus (a version different than the one on the different versions page here, it had an all black screen with FBI logo in upper right). I tried to remove according to instructions here dated in July, using Amsisoft, but it did not work. Windows System restore did seem to work, but I want to make sure my system is clean.

OS: win 7 64 bit home premium

Thanks for your help.

Also, Win7 firewall and using Avast free antivirus (albeit 1 version update behind at the time) which obviously failed to protect.

Hi,

I've been having with a trojan and malware infection for a couple of weeks now. This is the first time I've had something like this and, although I'm fairly useful wiht computers, this has got me stumped.

Problem seemed to start when i downloaded iTunes (?!) - machine ran slow and then started throwing up Anti Malware Doctor warings and all the usual rubbish. Already had MBAM so got rid that stuff using a ful scan. But since then it would appear that there's alot of malware left on the machine that continuously regenerates even when i remove it. I've done seperate runs using MBAM, Spybot S&D, Super AS, Lavasoft Ad-Aware nad it's still there! Add to this the fact that Goggle is now re-directing me to random sites from search results nad leads me to fake pages for sites like facebook, however the domain stays as 'facebook.com' - strange.

MBAM is showing up the deletion of 'Trojan.ZbotR.Gen' and also several worms. I won't post the MBAM logs up unless advised though.

Anyhow here is my DDS log:

I am only getting a maximum of 12.48mb on my iMac, the technician tested the (new) Livebox Play router and confirmed it was reaching 15mb, he said it could be Avast causing the drop in speed but it shows the same speed with it turned off. Running programmes are: Finder, Mail, Firefox, Safari, A VPN and Activity monitor., which I have also turned off one at a time.
My network consists of an a Imac connected by Ethernet, an HP desktop running Windows 7, 2 iPads, 2 Kindles fire, and 1 internet Radio only used on a morning for an hour.
I have done some searching but I have not found anything helpful, I have more hope here.

New Internet Explorer Vulnerability Confirmed
Microsoft have confirmed a new Internet Explorer security vulnerability which is affecting only pre-Windows Vista operating systems like Windows XP meaning that users running Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2000 and Server 2008 R2 are not affected by the issue.
The vulnerability is not exploited currently according to Microsoft?s information and it is not likely that it will as a user on the target system needs to be convinced to press the F1 key in response to a pop up dialog box on a specifically prepared website.

Good afternoon sirs. This recruit was just told by Wachovia E-Fraud Department that a trojan virus or a key logger is present on my system and has compromised my online banking with Wachovia and apparently ever other account I have. They advised me to bring my computer to Best Buy or ohter retailer to let them clean it and format the hard drive. I cannot believe what I am hearing. I use Avast antivirus, ZoneAlarm Firewall, Spybot, AdAware, CCleaner, Kill2Me on a regular basis and never find anything. They (Wachovia IT Security) claim the person penetrating is from a Sweedish IP and he/she constantly changes the signatures on the virus and being it is so new there are no present defenses???? Where do I start this process of finding out? Please help.

A 17-year-old Windows bug was disclosed by a Google Engineer. It is located in the Windows Virtual DOS Machine (VDM) which is introduced in Windows NT. That was Microsoft?s first fully 32-bit operating system.
64-bit versions of Windows are not affected. An advisory was released by the company on how to disable the VDM as a way to protect users from hackers who may try to hijack their PCs.
According to the advisory, ?An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.?

First Windows 7 Zero-Day Exploit Confirmed by Microsoft

Microsoft confirmed the existence of an unpatched zero-day vulnerability that affects Windows 7 & Server 2008 R2, though they are downplaying the risk. MS says that most users would be protected from the attack if they block two ports at their firewall. Right, because most consumers know how to block ports at their firewall. Glad to hear that MS isn?t too worried.

Microsoft said it may patch the problem, but didn't spell out a timetable or commit to an out-of-cycle update before the next regularly-scheduled Patch Tuesday of Dec. 8. Instead, the company suggested users block TCP ports 139 and 445 at the firewall. Doing so, however, would disable browsers as well as a host of critical services, including network file-sharing and IT group policies.

I have a Dell Dimension 8200, running Windows XP Pro. Protected (I thought) by PC-cillin Internet Security. As of 1/26/09 I have the System Security Virus - it has dropped an icon on my desktop and in the taskbar. I can delete the icons to recycle bin and empty the recycle bin for momentary return to sanity but, of course, they're both back when I reboot. I've found the file, thanks to a post I read yesterday and attempted to delete using C:\ command prompt, but get the message "access is denied"

Help, how can I get rid of this monster (and how can I know what other damage it may have done)?
