Slow internet, slow video streaming, slow computer... aaaaah!

Question: Slow internet, slow video streaming, slow computer... aaaaah!

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

The only thing I see here that is troubling to me, is that I do not have Spyware doctors anymore (was uninstalled about 3 months ago), and it still shows up.

Also, the look and configuration of folders have been randomly changing themselves. For example, now, my "C:\" folder changed itself to a pictures style folder, and the tab (in Properties) that is supposed to be there for me to change it back to normal, does not appear. Also, the icons of "My documents", "My music", "My pictures", etc have changed from their specific icons, to the generic Windows yellow icons. Access to the internet overall is much slower, if not debilitatingly so. I did an ewido online scan, and did not find anything major. I also noticed about 7 svchost processes running, when I have no application directly running.

You must know that my Windows software CD that came with the computer is lost, and I do not know how to get a new one. I am running Windows XP, and my computer info are in my profile.

Please help, I will be eternally greatful.

Preferred Solution: Slow internet, slow video streaming, slow computer... aaaaah!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Slow internet, slow video streaming, slow computer... aaaaah!

First of all if this is the wrong section sorry.

Hello. This has been an issue I have been having the past month. I have Time Warner Cable Road Runner 30/5 internet and everything is fine when it comes to browsing the net, watching streams on justin.tv and twitch.tv on 720p as well as downloading games on steam. But when it comes to streaming videos its like I have Dial or or something. It takes ages to load/buffer. YouTube, vimeo, dailymotion, giantbomb , you name it it just doesn't load as fast as it should.

I tried different DNS servers and doesn't make a different. I tried other browsers same issue. I don't know what else to do. It don't get why video streaming is giving me a issue. Any ideas? Thanks.

I am running Windows XP on a dell XPS 200. Been running fine but a couple weeks ago it has rally bogged down while on the internet. Especially when trying to stream videos. Before I hardly had any problems. Once the problems hit, I changed all my accelleration settings, ran virus checks with avast and even with Trend online. I had superantispyware but it was locking up when I would try to update which makes me wonder if I have a well hidden virus or spyware. But nothing I have done has seemed to help.
Here is my HJT log. Any help is greatly appreciated:

This has been driving me nuts. Where I used to live, I had Opt Online and didn't have any issues. I moved last December and my only choice was Comcast or Verizon DSL. So I went with a Comcast business plan as I use static IPs. I am using the same SonicWALL firewall that I have been using for almost two years and never had any issues. There are no firewall rules blocking my connection out to the Internet. The only thing that has changed is I now have Comcast and they provided me with a Netgear CG3000DCR router.

Anyone with Comcast probably knows that they have their own firmware on these routers and there is no official "bridge mode". According to Comcast they tell you to just disable DHCP and that is the equivalent of bridge mode. As far as I can tell, it does work properly when doing this. I was able to put the public static IP in the WAN interface on my SonicWALL without any issues.

Internally I have two Windows Server 2012 R2 domain controllers with DNS and DHCP. To rule out and DNS issues, I have tried going directly through Google and Level 3 DNS servers and also Comcast's DNS server.

I am having two issues. For one, it is very slow to load web pages. Almost feels like I am on DSL. Second, video streaming is horrible. It constantly has to buffer the video and I am talking about a 360p youtube video, or even CNN videos. This is on all devices in the house. Doesn't matter if they are wireless, or hard wired. Every time I do a speed test... Read more

Answer:Slow Internet Browsing and Video Streaming?

@OP

!. Get your own modem and router. Make sure the modem and router are separate devices. This is how you can ensure a quality modem and a quality router.

2. The slowdown you are experiencing is due to stupidly greedy ISPs. It's called peering and ISPs want to be paid twice (once by you for the connection and once by the content providers). Read up on peering agreements between ISPs and get informed. Then, contact your politician and complain. If that bastard won't do anything then don't vote for him/her.

Running older PC Clone 2.0 Ghz Dual CPU Pentium, 1GB Ram Win XP Home Edition system.

While navigation on Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, system runs extrememly slow and/or crashes. When using applications such as Itunes, Email, or simply opening up Word and other applications, it runs very slow and almost seems to stop. The IE7 that was on the computer had changed to an operate with add-ons off as a result of the infection. I downloaded and reinstalled IE7 and this seems to have fixed that problem for the time being. MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpy icons dissappeared from my desktop. When trying to use them from the Start / Menu options the programs no longer worked. I reinstalled them and they appear to work fine now. However, the system still seems to run very slow over all and its performance is greatly hindered.

Next, I ran free version of SuperAntiSpyware and all it detected was a couple Adware cookies. Secondly, I ran free version of Malware Bytes Anti-Malware and it detected PUP.GamePlayLab infections located in the Registry Key: HKLM\SOFTGWARE\Microsoft\Windows.... These files were removed and quarantined by MWB. Thirdly, I ran Old Timer's TFC and then rebooted the computer and it appeared to run a little faster, but still sluggish while using IE7. So, finally, I ran ESET Free Online Scanner, and it detected "Win32/Toolbar.Babylon and Win32/TopMedia.a" virus infections. Scan took about 2 1/2 hours. I set it to search the drives/ar... Read more

I will try to explain my problem as clearly as I can. And so sorry about my bad grammar and spelling, trying to post this asap.

first off give small history of my PC. I bought my PC new Sept 2001. A HP Pavilion with 1.3 ghz, 256ram, and a 55gig hard-drive originally came with WinMe, since then I upgraded to XP. I kept my PC case clean, didn't try to install programs my PC couldn't handle, didn't go to any sites that knew were bad with viruses and such also had Malwareytes/spybot/avast/hijackthis to use, didnt install any toolbars, and tried not to have many programs open at the same time. I basically kept my PC simple with use.

Anyways around June I noticed some odd slowdowns
While playing Winamp and running a torrent with speeds of more than 400+ the audio would become choppy. This also happen when I would open FF, IE or any program while running Winamp, the audio would be choppy.

Extracting 700mb files from Winrar would take around 8mins

Playing Youtube, WMP, of VLC videos would be slow and choppy.

Transferring files from one PC to another over a crossover cable would take much longer. 4gigs of files would take about 20mins or so.

Virus scanners, Avast, Malwarebytes, and Spybot would also take much longer than usual.

So, about 2 weeks ago while my brother was on Youtube my... Read more

Hello Bleeping comp.
I have a small Acer notebook which has been running fine up until this point.
Lately i have been having trouble using video streams from sites like gametrailers and youtube
the videos eventually load slower than usual but the sound is choppy as is the video, i can hear the the audio skipping very slightly.
Also the sound files (the opening startup sound windows makes, or the pop up error message sound) have been skipping and sound very choppy.

I haven't gotten any important error messages lately either.
If it helps i run VIPRE Antivirus software but it hasn't found anything that could be causing this.
Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: i forgot to say that all other parts of my laptop are running smoothly which is why the problem is so confusion to me

Answer:Youtube, video streaming problems, slow computer

When you say small Acer is it an Aspire One with SSD? If so I found a small program that makes it run as fast as my tower, it has no issues with streaming video or for that matter nothing else!

Hi,

I posted in the Web & Email forum, and they said I should post my HJT log here. I'm mostly looking to get rid of unnecessary processes so I can speed up my computer a little. I see various things here I never use--Spy Sweeper, Yahoo, AOL, etc--but I want to make sure I'm getting rid of the right things.

Thanks!

Hello there members ,

I'm working on my mom's computer again. Last time I was here it had a bunch of viruses, and the good folks here helped a lot to get it functional again. It does not have a virus now, nor malware, but it is extremely slow. Trying to play music from Internet stations or watch youtube videos online is impossible, and overall it feels sluggish.

The Windows Task Manager shows CPU usage pretty low at 4% or so. 71 processes running which doesn't seem high to me. I see System Idle Process, CPU at 99? Not sure that's it though. There's probably about 55% or so available on the C disk drive. I'm about to defrag it and see if that fixes anything, but I'm pretty doubtful.

I've run all the usual anti-spyware (Spybot + Malware bytes), and anti-virus (Avira) but that hasn't helped a thing. What are some things I can do to troubleshoot?

BTW it's Windows XP on this machine. Any assistance is most appreciated

Answer:Slow Computer - Herky / Jerky Streaming Audio Video

Did you used to have the problem before your malware issues? Playing audio and video online could simply be an issue with your Internet connection. When you say playing is impossible, what does that mean, nothing comes out, stuttering.... Have you measured your upload and download speed? Speedtest is fine, if you avoid hitting the ads. What sort of things are sluggish? Page changes, mouse movements, programs starting up.........The System Idle process being 99 means it's not very busy! 71 processes does seem a bit high but these days every man and his dog wants to run a service on your PC. Mine are currently 54. I would have thought that during your malware removal exercise, others in this forum would have indicated what programs and services do not need to be running.

Hey guys,i'll just get straight to the point here,i have a BT home hub version 2(the black colour) router to which i am connecting to via a Belkin n Wireless adapter.the internet itself is running relatively slower than usual, whenever i try to watch videos on youtube or on the iplayer.co.uk,it keeps buffering,i have to wait so long for it to load to actually watch the thing.Recently the engineer was at our house and found no problem with our connection, inact, our ISP told is that there was no problem whatsoever with our line.An hour before the engineer came to our house,i accidently uninstalled the wireless adapter and re installed, this appeared to fix the problem (for a week) and now,it has went back to being slow again,i have tried many things, such as checking for viruses, cleaning temp files, turning off hardware acceleration, changing wireless channel, disconnected and reconnecting, restarting the pc,restarting the router, this is the same for my laptop also,i really need to find a solution to this as it is driving me mad! could this be due to interference,or perhaps a conflict between belkins adapter and the router? i dont understand how it was fine when i accidently uninstalled and re-installed the adapter, and then i repeat the same thing to try to fix it again and it doesn't work, please,if you know anything of how to help me with this problem please reply

i am also using windows vista home premium
thankyou very much in advance

Answer:Help! Slow Computer, Slow Internet. Slow, Slow, Slow!

Hi MaryJane,Sorry for the delay, this forum is really swamped right now. I don't see any positive signs of malware in your log, although there is one thing that I am unsure about. I'll get to that in a minute. Before we do rootkit scans and use some other tools to confirm that malware is not the problem, let's do a quick check of resources.Press <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> to open Task Manager, then click on the Processes tab. Place a check next to Show processes from all users. Note the numbers at the bottom, CPU usage should be running at 0 to no more than five percent if your system is idle (no background tasks running). If that is not the case, scroll down and see if any of the processes is running at a high percentage of CPU usage. On a normal system at idle the System Idle Process should show about 98 percent, meaning nothing else is using the CPU. The next columns to the right, memory usage and peak memory usage, may also show something out of line if one process is using a large amount of memory. If you see anything showing high CPU usage or high Memory usage, make a note of it.Now, click the Performance tab. The key numbers here are in the Commit Charge box -- The Total and Peak figures; and in the Physical Memory box, the Total figure. Make a note of these three numbers. I would like to see them, but I can tell you what I'm looking for: basically, any time the Commit Charge exceeds the total physical memory, Windows will have to constantly swap d... Read more

Hi The computer  that is slow is a desk top tower. In a home.  it is a E machine.
it has windows 7  professional  with service pack 1
DO KNOW :  I am very new to windows 7 and all it's features.
When I brought this computer home  last Nov. it was lightening fast at everything! so much better than  the windows XP  it replaced, I was thrilled.  yet Now starting in  April 2015  it is as slow  or slower  as my old Windows with XP ever was  ( and partially the reason for saving my  pennies to get this windows 7 computer)...and  now I'm upset. feeling  like I have been taken.

Computer displays the following :
3.8 windows experience index
Intel pentium dual 2.0Ghz  processor
64 Bit

Has Ccleaner installed
has Comodo antivirus and Comodo cleaning essentials installed.
All virus scans  find no infections,  and report that all is well and protected.  ( B/C of the way the computer is operating i'm doubting that and betting there is an infections of some sort)

I Have run Comodo cleaning essentials and  results find no abnormalities or infections.
Have run TFC and JRT  and the computer shows no signs of improvement.
have run rKill  and it  finds  no abnormalities  or infections.
All virus scan results  find no infections.
Windows updates is activated  and  all latest updates have been installed.... Read more

Answer:Windows 7 computer suddenly slow to get on internet, slow to browse websites etc

Hi flywelder Maybe we aren't looking at an infection here. There's tons of reasons why a system can slow down, and not all of them are malware related. Let's try to take a look at this issue under another angle shall we?MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:List Installed Programs;List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;List Devices - Only Problems;List Users, Partitions and Memory size;Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Hey I recently bought a new computer that is much better than my old one in stats but its not acting like it.

Windows XP
Service Pack 3
Intel Dual Core E5200
2.50GHz
2GB RAM

Now it was running ok to begin with but then the internet started having problems. It kept dropping out or fluctuating in speed and nothing seemed to fix it. It didnt happen on my old system it sat nicely at 54MB/s all the time.

Then the rest of the computer started going slow to start up so i got rid of some start up programs and desktop items which didnt seem to do much. And now ive noticed that when songs are playing in itunes they skip seconds every now and then.

Also when i click for programs to come up after i wait till everything is started up properly i have to wait a minute or two before they open. And burning DVDs has doubled in how long it takes.

Any ideas of what could be wrong, ive scanned for viruses using Avira and spyware using SUPERantispyware, ive cleaned registry using Registry easy and removed all unnecesary crap using CCleaner.

It got suggested that my computer was going slow because of AVG8 so i got rid of it and with got Avira but it slowed up again.

Hey, basically computer's been a bit slow and tried clearing some stuff and done other things, but still no luck, to make things worse internet's been a lot slow and when using either firefox and internet explorer. For example when going on youtube some videos would freeze in the middle and i would have to reload the page, and sometimes takes ages to load a page.

So here's my DDS log and hopefully the problem can be diagnosed, thank you.

This is my first time posting a question on bleeping computer. We are so thankful that you are out there to help us and not rip us off. I think my computer is infected. My desktop starts up very slowly, my internet connection is slow (it's slow in pulling up websites and some never come up). I'm getting lots of pop ups (even though pop up blocker is enabled). When I go to open the control panel, a flashlight pops up as if it is looking for it (it eventually does open but it takes a while). I had a problem at one time with a lot of POS.TMP files and followed advice from posts on this site to get rid of them. Well, my current problems started when a friend downloaded a music program. I believe it was called Soundman. When I noticed the computer acting funny, I went into the control panel and deleted it along with some other programs I found (PPC Booster, P2P Max, Ron Tool Adsoftinc, Wyzo, Eco Bar). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Hello, i'll be grateful if you could help us with a problem that we are having with our laptops at home. Let me to explain you, my wife have his own laptop at home, as I have mine laptop too, both of the computers share a wi-fi internet conection. I'm not sure of what's going on but the internet conection it's extremely slowly, sometimes when we reboot our laptops there is no internet conection. According to our ISP there's no problem with the internet conection, they said it could be something with the laptops.

Now, It's true that the two laptops are more slowly, specially my wife's laptop, it takes too long for any processes, I always take a look to the running processes and it seems like there are too much process always but I'm not sure of what is good and whats isn't.

I decided to attach The HiJack log from my wife's laptop, maybe with this you could help us to figure out what's going on.

Thanks for your time!

Hello, my computer has been extremely slow on boot and my desktop has been hijacked with a message about changing it to a website. I also have a program called "error fix" showing up on my desktop and I have no idea where it came from. I've run Malware Bytes twice on the computer with numerous problems found. After running it the second time, I got a message saying I needed to run CHKDSK which I ran. Also, my internet is running very slowly and I just got a message that says "A program on your computer has corrupted your default setting for Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has reset this sietting to your original search provider, Live.Search (search.live.com). Internet will now open Search Settings, where you can change this setting or install more search providors."

Here is my Hijackthis Log, if you need the MBAM logs, please let me know and I will post those as well.

My PC (VISTA) keeps interupting when streaming videos. My laptop (XP) operating in wireless mode on the same Broadband router does not have the same problem. Have I got a virus on the PC . If so how do I remove it. I have McAfee, and Super Antispyware and have done a quick scan using Malwarebytes

Answer:Slow streaming video

Malwarebytes came back with results? What were they, clear?

I doubt it's virus related, else you'd experience it elsewhere, not just a slow video.

Can you please elaborate on the interrupting? We'll need to know what is actually happening.. Is the PC blue-screening, rebooting, crashing? Or is it just the video is lagging / jumpy? Or are you streaming to an extender and that's whats laggy / jumpy? Are you doing it over Wireless, Wired? Are you on a GIG LAN etc..

The more info we have, the better your chances of help!

My videos I receive and or YouTube videos and very slow and stop and start all the time. What can I do? I have Windows 7.

Answer:Streaming video - slow

This is mostly due to your internet speed. First, when you click on a streaming video, stop it and let the buffer load the video (the grey line ahead of the playing line). Once the buffer has completed downloading, start the video, it should play without interruption. To test your internet speed go to speedtest.net if your internet seed is .5 mb or less then it is too slow to play streaming video.

I have the fastest comcast package available and I can download things at almost 3mb/sec but when it comes to streaming video, it sucks. Does anyone know why this is and is there a fix to this? Is there something I could go in and change?

I am aware of that. I told you that I can actually download files at close to 3mb/sec. When I do a speedtest at speedtest.net I get this . Everything else is really fast except video streaming

Answer:very slow video streaming

I would pause the streaming videos. The issue is that the videos have to buffer. While you maybe able to download fast, that doesnt mean the streaming video servers can feed you the video that fast. They have multiple connections that they have to feed at once. So everyone gets slower speeds.

Pause the video and let a bit of it get into the buffer. Then you should be able to watch it without any skips.

I have telstra broadband liberty @ 20000/1000. I haven't used my allowance. I'm getting very slow video streaming with utube and various other video streaming sites. This has been happening it seems like forever.I can do all other things at good speeds(p2p,browsing,download files, etc)It has been suggested by a friend that i have a virus, I have scanned with my freeware applications(avg, spybot, malwarebytes) and they have come up empty. I feel i must add that i do get an annoying pop up regularly asking me to connect to the internet and when i try it says error 678 can not connect to the remote computer. When i cancel the pop up i am still connected anyway. I have spoken to my isp and they assure me everything is fine, it's just that i'm streaming from free sites and then they start pushing their own site. I'm confused and disappointed because everyone talks about utube and yet i have given up trying to use it.I have the latest adobe flash player and it will load, only very slowly. hi guys... I just want you to help me in this problem if its ok.. I have a Toshiba L510 notebook for about a year now.. about two weeks ago i was watching a video from animecrazy.net using google chrome as my browser. I just notice that the video took a lot of time to buffer which is unusual because before it was buffering fast. Then i browse youtube and watch some videos and it was fine and the video is loading fast. Then i tried other video streaming sites like megavideo and same situation with animecrazy.net. The video is loading slow... I was just bothered because all video streaming sites i browse except youtube are buffering slow...I also tried other browser like firefox and IE but the same happens..I am using windows 7 starter.. hope you can help me in this.. Thanks..

Answer:Slow video streaming

Does this happen all the time or only certain times of the day? I just ran 5 minutes of a video on animecrazy.net and it seemed to run fine. Have you tried pausing it for 3 minutes then starting it back up? I think that method may work best. Give it time to preload the episode and you should be caught up. animecrazy.net gets a lot of traffic I am sure, which means that its going to reduce the bandwith you are able to recieve through them, as is megavideo. I know with mega I have had that issue and had to let it buffer, Ill ussually start it, pause as soon as the picture shows, or ad dissapears, go grab a drink and bag of chips, come back and watch.

Hope this is the issue, as it seems it may be if youtube is running fine. If not, it could be a codec problem, have you loaded any codecs since the problem started? Youtube has a lot of 3gp videos, while the other sites most likely run mpeg.

My computer is going really slow, the internet connection(with dsl) is only averaging about 70 kb/sec... I am not sure if i have a virus or anything but any help is appreciated. Thank you, here is my system scanner, I followed all the steps before posting =] thank you

Some kind of trojan invaded my computer I believe. I ran Symantec and it deleted a bunch of entries but the auto-protect kept popping up to block something labeled Downloader and file "kernel32.exe" I was eventually able to delete it in safe mode after turning off the system restore. But then the auto-protect kept blocking Adware.Webbuying with file name qmlqrib.dll (both of these were in system32 folder according to the log), but there was no file by that name anywhere. I ran Ad-Aware which removed two entries with a level 10 threat assessment named BookedSpace and Win32.TrojanClicker, however the Adware.Webbuying continued to be blocked by Symantec. I then ran Spybot which found and deleted numerous entries and I no longer get auto-protect for Adware.Webbuying. However, I continue to get pop-ups, internet is slower, computer is slower, and it seems to prevent downloads after a certain point in time (haven't made it past 20% of a file from various different sites ranging from 4-20 MB). Who knows what else it is doing; hopefully not downloading my personal data. Please lend me a hand if you can. Thanks. I have included my HijackThis log:

For some odd reason, in the past 4 weeks, my streaming video has become VERY slow, and I do not know why. I have a high-speed cable connection, the same I have had for the past 6 months. It is slow, sound-with-stil-images and/or constantly rebuffering, and this is true with WIndows Media, Winamp, Realplayer and even Flash videos (on YouTube for example). I cannot take it anymore. I tried this Hijackthis thing, and this is my log:

You didn't say if you ran any scans before posting the log. If not run these online scans:

I'm not even sure this is a Mozilla problem but I didn't see a category for video software. I have an ASUS laptop with Windows 7 installed. I pretty much bought this to watch streaming video on. My most frequented site is LetMeWatchThis | 1Channel - Watch Movies Online Free - Just Added and my most commonly used streaming share site is putlocker/sockshare. I do not have cable, this is how I watch all my tv shows. This software always runs perfectly fine and out of nowhere two days ago everything is streaming RIDICULOUSLY slow. I've noticed it with putlocker as well as youtube. This is not an overloaded server because I've gotten onto Youtube at work several times at different times of the day and the 10 year old crap machines there stream youtube vids fine. I've had problems a couple times in the past and a plug-in check always solved the problem. Nothing is working this time. My plug-ins are updated. One forum suggested I uninstall and reinstall my adobe flash... did it: no difference. I've cleaned up my hard drive, deleted my temp internet files, history, etc., my disk defragmenter runs once a week so I know that isn't the problem. I've tried restoring windows to a date previous to the start of the problem and that also did nothing. I use the windows firewall program in conjunction with AVG free and I am not too familiar with firewall manipulation. Another forum suggested doing something with the firewalls but to be honest I'm too afraid to do it without pretty precise inst... Read more

Ok, we just bought a brand new HP witha quad processor, Windows Vista Premium and have a DSL connection. We are having an issue with streaming video on the internet, mainly on apple.com. We try to watch some of the movie trailers on their site using the quicktime player. The movie loads really slow, so we have to wait like 2 or 3 minutes before hitting the play button. This is frustrating since I can view these videos on my friends PC which is older and has cable as their ISP. What could be the problem??

Answer:SLow loading Streaming video

Cable is MUCH faster than DSL in most areas.

Hi all,
This is my first post here in this forum and it is about my slow online video streaming on windows vista ultimate.

I have a brand new T61 (T7300, 2.0 GHz), with 2 gigs of RAM and extra 1 gig of turbo memory, a feature that core 2 duo processor technology supports.

I am using Time Warner's Road Runner 10MB/s connection and for the first few weeks (around a month and a half back) it ran absolutely fine but after that started degrading in terms of available speed.

I check my internet speed at www.speedtest.net regularly, and it stays usually about ~9300 KB/s (Down) and ~340 KB/s (Up) and even after staying at this speed, my video streaming on websites such as youtube and googlevideo does not stay continuous.

I am using Kaspersky AV 7.0.0.125 that keeps me (atleast I feel like) miles away from malware and adware. It does not have its own firewall and therefore I am using windows firewall itself.

Can someone please suggest what I should I do to make my video streaming experience better (or much better in terms of what I am paying for the Internet / month)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers,
AceKnocks

Answer:Online video streaming extremely slow

Did you ever figure this out? This is basically the same problem I'm having. Watching my processor usage and memory, I'm ok, but online videos are working horribly. I have a 7MB connection with Time Warner and have also verified the speed.

One weird thing I've noticed in addition to the slow load times in YouTube is that even when the slider has not caught up to the edge of the loading bar it will still stop and think.

My system has stopped streaming web videos. They do play after 30 mites to over one hour to allow them to buffer. Downloading video is equally slow - e.g. a 780 MB video might take upwards of 3 hours.

I originally suspected my Firefox browser, and switched to Chrome. At first there were signs of hope but soon the same stagnation started.

The system runs as expected. I use Adobe CS5.5 and run After Effects and Premiere with no problems. It is only when accessing online videos from YouTube, Vimeo, or most cites I've tried. My 8GB of RAM is nevern overloaded, but even with 4GB free it runs slow when downloading video. My hard drive has 20 GB free. The only time the CPU goes to 100% is during rendering some AE projects.

Also - it is NOT my Internet connection since there are no problems with my iPad on WiFi, and other systems have no problems on the same network.

Help!!

Thank you.

Hello,  I have a new  x100e (Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit, 2GB RAM, 250GB hard drive).  Lenovo Access Connections says my wireless connection is good (4 out of 5 bars on the indicator) and says speed is 72.0 Mbps.  When I try to view video on YouTube, it plays 3 or 4 seconds then stops with the spinning circle in the middle of the screen for another 4 or 5 seconds then plays another 4 or 5 seconds, and on and on.  It's made viewing video streams not worth the trouble.  If it is something I really want to see, I'll pause the playing and wait til it all loads - which can be a while.  I previously was using an S10 Ideapad w/ WinXP and never had this problem.  What gives?

Answer:x100e Wireless Video Streaming SLOW

I am also struggling with very slow data transfer speed in the same WLAN ThnkPad x100e downloads well under 10 Mbps. Strangely, the same metering service shows well over 70 Mbps with another Levovo PC, ThinkPad E320. I have done complete factory reset, all updates, including BIOS and obviously not running any CPU or bandwidth consuming applications while measuring the speed. In the photo you an see that the latency and upload sppeed are at same level, while the download speeds are massively different. Lenovo diagnostics didin't help to solve the issue.  I would really appreciate tips to solve this.

Main problems: Programs take a while to start-up, windows takes a while to start-up, all icons on desktop take a while to appear when starting up (just generic icon for a while until computer actually starts responding), video and audio is choppy.Already went through the Malware attempts and disk scanning, defragging, and all that:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...p;#entry1586320Not sure if it's software or hardware related as I'm not sure what CPU temperatures I should be expecting and the computer has always run hot.The previous HD on this computer got borked and ended up getting a new one thats much bigger and faster (7200 vs 5400). So far from all the different hardware testing programs everything seems to be passing.Any ideas? It's been driving me crazy and sure is making it hard to get work done. Thanks!

How much RAM installed? How much free space on C:? How large is C:?I find that..."slow" is a relative term and when applied to a system...much depends on what is installed and running.Don't know if you have looked at remarks by Quietman7 at Slow Computer-browser Check Here First; It May Not Be Malware - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/87058/slow-computerbrowser-check-here-first;-it-may-not-be-malware/.FWIW: From the time that I press the power button...until all icons are present and system is accessible...normally takes 2-3 minutes for me (which is probably a good average).Problems with video files...depends heavily on system capabilities and origin/locale of the video source (online or hard drive).Louis

Hi,

I'll try to provide as much of the story as I can... hopefully some computer genius out there can help me, as HP Support evidently cannot.

I have an HP Pavillion DV6t-1300 laptop, barely 4 months old. Here are the specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64
Intel Core2 Duo T6600 @ 2.2GHz
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator/Mobil Intel 4 Series Express Chipset
Internet Explorer 8
Adobe Flashplayer 10
Windows Media Player 12
Java Version 6 update 18

From day one, literally, of using this laptop, it has had trouble playing streaming video online from any website. CNN, Youtube, ABC.. anywhere. I have another 2 year old Dell laptop (Windows Vista) that runs on the same wireless internet at my home and has no difficulty whatsoever with streaming video, so I'm inclined to think the internet speed is not the issue. (Speedtest.net reports 52 ping, .92 Mgbs download & .76 upload for my connection). I have Symantec Endpoint Protection software up to date on this problem computer. I've run CCleaner, downloaded 'Video Accelerator', and Microsoft Silverlight with no improvement to the streaming video problem. I've also updated my BIOS, updated my Graphics card driver, reset my Internet Explorer settings to default- no success.

The problem is that video will play- it's just super choppy and buffers unpredictably. Even the commercials before episodes on ABC or NBC don't make it through without stuttering crazily. I was told by the last HP rep I spoke ... Read more

I recently bought a wireless card for my desktop. Previously I was using a fob-type usb adapter. When I used the usb adapter I was able to achieve download speeds of around 1 MB/s and stream 1080p video, but with the card my download speed maxes out at about 250 kB/s and it takes a few minutes for the same video quality to load, if it does at all. I'd ordinarily blame the card entirely for this problem, but when I test my connection speed with it, I get far higher results. Additionally, my upload speeds with the card can often rise to 500+ kB/s and are generally higher than my download speeds at all times. Just wondering if anyone could tell me what exactly is going on here.

Answer:Slow download speed and nearly impossible video streaming

Hi Alphabetter. There's more than one approach to troublshoot this. First thing that pops into my head is, since we ar edealing with wireless, maybe you are dropping packets. Do you know how to open a command prompt and use the ping command? I would try pinging something on the internet:
ping google.com -t
and let that run while you test some of those things you are trying to do. If you are getting a few timeouts, that would cause "slowness". Also, look at what the ping times are (latency). This is a good first step to troubleshoot such an issue.

Can you tell us a little more about your wireless service? Are we talking about a wireless ISP? And has your service contract or service level changed at all when you switched devices?

One question: Where are you getting 1080p content from the internet??? (if I may ask)

I have a laptop on wireless, and most of the time when I open my browser it takes very long to load the pages some of them don't even load in the next ten minutes or so. The other part is that I can't completely stream a video and it just stops loading in the middle. Also, I get disconnected in my instant messenger every time.

Answer:Slow Page Loading/ Incomplete Video Streaming

Silly question time...

Have you tried cleaning out your temporary internet files?

Also, is there a nearby wireless network that maybe causing interference to yours?

I'm running Windows XP with an AMD Sempron 2.0 ghz Processor with 700MB Ram.

Firefox takes up all this computer power(I know that this is more common with the updated Firefox's but in my case it's still to an extreme). Firefox will stay open after I close it and I will have to use Windows Task Manager to fully close. I've switched to Google Chrome and it is quicker.

Any Java usage slows the computer down incredibly. Even in Chrome it's slow. I can't switch between programs nearly as smoothly as before. Basically everything takes forever now and my computer seems to strain under the workload of what use to be basic usage.

I found two Trojans with Kaspersky Trial scan and I thought that fixed the problem(I eventually got rid of Kaspersky because it was making my slow computer even slower.) Unfortunately I never wrote down their names because my parent dropped me on my head frequently when I was a child.

I've run all the scans and nothing has come up(to my basic and infantile computer knowledge). One problem with the scans was the MGtools would open briefly and the window would only just flash and then dissapear and nothing would run. I blame mostly Jesus for this but Buddha in his infinite wisdom and humbleness has also taken some of the blame.

If you people could help me out that would be great.

Hey Everyone,

First off I'm pretty new here I know..........

My problem is that my internet connection is pretty slow on my main computer. It's an older (6 years) Dell. I'm still running XP and IE7. I have Comcast cable and it's connected through a Linksys modem. The problem is that the internet response on this machine is pretty slow. I have a laptop that I use and that is much better. I would figure that my "main" computer would be faster since it has a hard connection, not wireless.

I know that isn't much info so ask away and I do what I can to provide all the info needed.

Thanks!!!!!!

Jon

Ok I recently noticed that my computer is taking longer to load and also it lags when running programs. In addition, I noticed that my internet was slow. I use Yahoo DSL.

I defraged my hard drive with Auslogics Disk Defrag and it did not speed anything up. I did a adaware and spybot scan. And it did not help. So I decided to come here.

Following the steps, I ran an activescan and it found only 1 trojan that could explain my slow internet problem (hxxp://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/security-info/about-malware/encyclopedia/overview.aspx?idvirus=143883]). It was removed. I always had IE-SQUAD and Spyware blaster enabled and up to date. And I did my windows update. I am running Win XP SP2, not SP3, since there were a few things my computer cannot do that I need on SP3.

But my computer is still running slow and "locks up" briefly. If anyone can help, I would be very thankful. Thank you!

Below is my Hijack log and attached is my activescan log:

Hi. Recently I've been unable to watch or download any iPlayer or 4oD programmes to any degree; the internet speed has been close to 0kbps for them. However, general web browsing and file downloading is OK. This diagnostic test here showed my 'download speed' as over 2Mbps, but the 'streaming speeds' were non-existant. Is this a problem fixable? My ISP is Tiscali; I've had P2P problems with them in the past, but the situation seemed to be getting better. Programs are slightly more watchable early in the morning, but it's not much better. 4oD is slightly better; I can watch programs fine in the morning, but again in the evening they're unwatchable. YouTube, oddly enough, works fine any time of the day.

Is there a way to improve iPlayer and 4oD speeds?

Several weeks ago I started noticing that my connection to the net seemed really slow. Also, whenever I download anything, I get the first little bit, then it stalls. I can only download files if I use a download manager so I can pause and restart the download several times. If I attempt to watch streaming video, such as YouTube, I get the first few seconds or so, then it stalls. Below is my Logfile from HJT. Any help available would be appreciated.

Hi guys and gals,
i bought a new HP desktop just over a week ago and am mostly very happy with it, however, the download speeds when i am trying to get updates are sooo slow! and trying to stream a film from netflix is impossible to watch as it stops every 2minutes to adjust the connection speed. It has a built in wireless card and my wireless router is a Lynksys WRT160N, which i am getting an excellent signal from. I have used a NetMeter and it is telling me that my DL rate is no higher than 76.4 KiB/s and is generally a lot lower. I have updated all the drivers for the wireless adapters, tried moving the PC closer to the router, unplugged our cordless phone, but nothing has so far worked. Here is some basic information of my system

So I have a desktop computer that uses a wired connection. I also have a wireless router that my iPod touch uses to go on the internet. Whenever I stream videos (not on youtube, but on other sites) or play games that uses the internet connection like FPS games, the wireless internet would lag so badly. So when my brother wants to play FPS games, I can't go on the internet on my ipod Touch because the internet would be so slow and lags. I want to know why this is happening. Is it because of my router or my internet connection? Any advice on solving this so I can stream videos or play games AND go on the internet with my iPod touch at the same time? Thanks everyone!

Firefox is running super slow for me at times and then just seems like it hangs. I can open Google Chrome or IE and they run super fast during this time so I know it's a problem with FireFox. Also all my games seem to lock up during GamePlay so I wanted to see if any of my logs show anything. Thanks in advance for all help and suggestions.

so the problem is not because of a slow processor or insufficient RAM or weak graphics.

---------------------------------------------------------

Your log shows that you're using IObit Advanced SystemCare 4, so it's very possible that its use has damaged the Windows operating system and broken some of your programs.

If you've been using any other cleaner/booster/optimizer/tuneup type programs, that increases the risk even more of that occurring.

These programs do nothing to improve speed and performance nor perform "miracle cures".

I am running Windows 2000.I have broadband and until today I haven't had this problem.First a little background...
I installed Systems Works with no problems
I installed Webroot Spy Sweeper and I think that may have been the start of my problem.
When Streaming videos it takes FOREVER if at all to play. Downloading is a joke. What usually took a minute to download is so slow now that I usually just cancel it.I went to Windows Updates and thought that would help.but it didn't.I unistalled Spy Sweeper thinking that would help but it didn't.I'm thinking (and it is quite possible I am wrong)that I may have deleted something I shouldn't have when I swept and deleted Spy/ADware.

Any Thoughts???

PS..Even going from Webpage to Webpage is slow

My son says his video card is broken because is works only at the slowest setting possible.  I recently moved his computer and locked it in my office.  He said that moving it is what broke it.  Is this possible?I've been asking him to power off his pc and remove the video card then reinsert it.  It is possible that it has shaken lose from its seat.  Is he correct that moving a large gaming computer can break the video card?  I didn't drop it at all.

Answer:Video Card works very slow - super duper slow

Re-seating it is a good idea...i doubt you broke it.Make sure all power is dis-connected.Also if it's online games the connection speed may be what is slow...

Answer:Satellite Internet Runs Slow After I Watch Streaming Videos

How many MB of data did you download while watching the streaming video?

Found this discussion on another web site ....

http://consumerist.com/consumer/hug...our-bandwidth-82-and-youll-like-it-261084.php

After 3:01AM April 18th, their so-called "Fair Access Policy" changed to say that now the subscribers can download 375MB but in a TWENTY FOUR HOUR period! What's worse is, if you download more than 375MB in your 24 hour period (which by the way is a rolling period of time -- therefore you never get reset to zero unless you unplug your modem for 24 hours!), then you will be rated limited to sub-dialup speeds for TWENTY FOUR HOURS! The rate limit punishment time used to be 12 hours before this new policy came into effect!Click to expand...

Answer:Not Again! Slow PC, Slow Start Up, Slow Outside of Internet

Hello justanotherguy,

You continue to get reinfected because you are still running unpatched XP.

IMPORTANT!:
Before we can proceed any further, please visit the Microsoft's Windows Update Page and install ALL Critical Updates for your system (except service pack 2 (SP2). SP2 should only be installed on a fully disinfected system.) At the minimum install at least SP1a for both XP and IE6. Without these updates your system is wide open to re-infection and we are both wasting our efforts to clean your system. After we have completed your clean-up, we will have you return to the Windows Update page and install SP2. We will also then advise you on how to better protect yourself online.

Please apply those updates BEFORE posting your next log. It is this forum's policy to stop the disinfection process until these basic updates are done. If during the updating process you get a message that your product key is invalid ....then you may not have a legitimate copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately it?s also this forums policy that we only address users with a legal copy of Windows XP.... therefore if you can not update Windows XP to SP1 we must stop the cleansing process here.

**Note** If you're having trouble locating the service pack SP1a here is a direct link to download it from.

Ok Im currently trying to remove safesearch. So Now I know my computer is infected with safesearch so lets take care of that first. Ill go to the threads I have found and do the removal instructions. But I'd like for someone here to read the thread I have at cox.com support of my internet connection cause I have seemingly random drop outs of service and they say there is nothing wrong. I show nothing wrong with my computer and I can not see my issues with google, abc, fox, cw, nbc, hulu being a prevelant issue, The support departments for those websites have stated to me that they showed no outages at the times of my failures. I contracted safesearch while trying to download opera browser to try a different browser, so that is not the issue just a new issue.Hmm ok the thread for my internet issue is http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/14098.aspx and you can see I use malware anti bytes found nothing I use house call found nothing use spybot found nothing and I use iolo and avast as my real time protection.I am going to follow the thread http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/603497/cannot-get-rid-of-safesearch/?hl=%2Bsafesearch+%2Bremoval#entry3922108 for removal of safe search.

Thanks guys, I haven't done this in awhile so please bear with me...

After an older system of mine seemed to suddenly slow down and a current Symantec scan came up with nothing I ran Housecall on my system. Housecall found Adware_aeropopups and Adware_memwatcher before Housecall itself slowed down to nothing and died. I could not use Housecall to clean the malware/spyware cookies. I ran the Java Housecall plug-in; not the ActiveX. I then ran defrag and that helped some for the system so it seemed. However, the internet is stll quite slow on many occasions.

I ran Hijackthis and have pasted the log below along with a few system details. I only see GoogleDesktop in the log below as a potential problem. Please help! Everything else seems normal to my untrained eye. I will try adaware next if it is still free to use.

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and IE 7.0.5730.11
I run Symantec Norton AV and have installed Avast in an effort to access another AV library. I know they will conflict from time to time and will remove one of them later.

my PC has become so slow its getting impossible to do anything on it.
restarting seems to help sometimes more, sometimes less.
when i am tying in a message sometimes it will stop printing out on screen even tho i keep typing, then sometimes after a minute or so it will resume displaying what i was typing after it froze up and the same thing when i click to go to another section of a site, it will just freeze up and eventually go to where i wanted.

when i restart my pc a window opens up and Video-Play.com is displayed with another window usually a screen saver ad pop up type of thingy

here's my HJT log file

My system has been very slow for the last 24 hours. Startup was slow. Programs not loading. Even the google home page wasn't loading properly.

I restarted my router and the issues seem to be better but I think there is still a malware issue in the background somewhere.

Please help!
