ZoneAlarm (any version) won't install.... TrueVector Service error

Question: ZoneAlarm (any version) won't install.... TrueVector Service error

I am trying install ZoneAlarm zaSuiteSetup 61 737 000 en.exe (or any other version of ZA) and after i click on RUN to install I get:
TrueVector Service
TrueVector service has enountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience... (

Then i clicked on "to see what dada the error report contains"... thought this might help:

Error signature
AppName: vsmon.exe
AppVer 6.1.737.0
ModName: kernell32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180
Offset: 0001eb33

Then after sending the error report i get:

Setup is unable to log into the TrueVector service. Install cannot continue without logging into the TrueVector service.
Please use the service manager to shut down the TrueVector service and then restart the installer program.
I hope something in all this can help you...

Preferred Solution: ZoneAlarm (any version) won't install.... TrueVector Service error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer's been having a LOT of problems with a program called Zone Alarm, and a sub-program of it called TrueVector Servicep.
Although TrueVector appears to be a service, it's not listed under Services, or at least not as TrueVector or ZoneAlarm.

I can't uninstall Zone Alarm through Add/Remove Programs.
I can't uninstall it using it's uninstall file.
I haven't tried flat-out deleting the folder because I'm afraid Zone Alarm will leave orphan files, and I'll still have problems with it.

Edit by bjgarrick: Unrequested, Inline HJT log removed!

Answer:Help Remove TrueVector Service and ZoneAlarm!

First, Download Your Uninstaller! 2006, save to desktop and install.

Locate ZoneAlarm and uninstall this way. Probably would be better to do this In Safe Mode where it can delete the files.

By the way, this is a Firewall which is highly recommended to have installed. If you are having other malware problems then follow the instructions below and post the requested logs.

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around..

Hello All,

Well, just as any user looking for an answer to an XP Pro crash would do, I searched the forums but found nothing really relating to my problem.

Here's the Deal:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: TrueVector Service
Event Category: None
Event ID: 5007
Date: 1/28/2006
Time: 8:12:04 PM
User: N/A
Computer: DESKTOP
TrueVector engine: File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\DESKTOP.ldb" was corrupt and has been copied to "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\xDB14.tmp". File "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\DESKTOP.ldb" was corrupt and has been deleted.

WHAT THE HECK IS THIS? I read some threads concerning TrueVector being related to Zone Alarm and all the crappy reboots, but I don't run Zone Alarm. The last thing I did to my computer before I started getting the above message was install a microphone. That was it. It has ran smooth all day long. The problem, however, does seem to only occur when I am running WMP v. 10, but i have used it most of the day with no problems until tonight. Any suggestions?

Answer:TrueVector Service Error

Zone alarm is used as the free firewall in a lot of applications from ISPs (Road Runner , SBC/AT&T, etc) as well as Computer Associates EZArmor and many more.
So chances are if you have an "Internet security suite" that was free, it has zone alarm.
It looks as if the firewall access log for one of your applications became damaged or corrupt (sizes did not match, or something changed). Do you have a desktop clock application? Something like this?

I really would not be concerned unless it continues to occur and in that case , uninstall the problem internet security suite and get another.

My installation of Zonealarm's latest update, zaSuiteSetup_80_059_000_en.exe, stalls because "TrueVector Service has encountered a problem and needs to close". Fixes involve uninstalling, then installing an older version of Zonealarm, but the uninstallation stalls out with the same TrueVector message. I'm stuck!

My partner was having a problem with ZoneAlam which appeared to be blocking downloads, so she uninstalled it, re-booted and tried to reinstall. She is now getting the message:

"Setup is unable to log into the TrueVector service. Install cannot continue without logging into TrueVector Service. Install cannot continue without logging into TrueVector Service.

Please use the service manager to shut down the TrueVector Service and then restart the installer program."

We have tried restoring the sytem to a point before she noticed any problems, but get the same result.

Help please.

I have recently installed Zonealarm as my Firewall, as I had a lot of problems with Norton 360 and their technical support was not able to help me.

My problem now is that I every now and then get a pop-up that the Truevector service had to be stopped. When I click OK I seems like Zonealarm is frozen, and I have to restart my PC to have zonealarm working.

I have read somewhere that Zonealarm have had problems with this Truevector service but it should be solved with latest version of Zonealarm, which I believe I have.

Can you give me any help or hints on how to resolve this issue with zonealarm.

Otherwise I would like to know what other free firewalls are available.

Best regards

Do you by chance have an old version of Zone Alarm installed? If so, I would uninstall it and download the new version and update it. If you're not using ZA, and it's listed in Add/Remove Programs, uninstall it. If you are using ZA make sure XP's firewall is shut off

I am renewing zonelabs security suite and get this message saying "setup is unable to shut down truevector service. install cannot continue without shutting down the truevector service. Please use the service manager to shut down the truevector service and then restart the installer program.

What is truevector service and how do i shut it down? Also,, what is the service manager?

I feel stupid.
Thanks in advance for any help,

Answer:TrueVector service question

truevector service is essentially the zone alarm firewall service.
go to start--> run.. type in
SERVICES.MSC and hit enter

look for the service in the list, right click on it and choose STOP.. then try to install.

Yesterday, I bought Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite. For many years, I have run a mix of free Zone Alarm and some of their commercial products. Never had a problem with any of them until now.

When I tried to install this new program, an error message popped up saying that the version that I was installing was older than the version installed (free zone alarm 7.x) and that I should remove the one installed if I wanted to proceed. I removed it using the add/remove program function and tried to install the new Zone Alarm.

A message came up saying

"Setup cannnot continue without logging on to the TrueVector service.

Please use the service manager to shut down the True Vector service and then restart the installer program".

I have tried everything I can think of to shut down the True Vector service but it does not seem to be present on my machine.

Googling gave some suggestions and I tried those with no luck. I have also run my registry cleaners, msconfig, did a search for "Zone Labs" etc. and none of these things identified the True Vector service.

The Google search did reveal that I am not alone in this problem. There are more results in the search that you would ever have time to read and none of the solutions offered there worked either.

I also cannot find the "service manager" that Zone Alarm mentioned in their error message but did come close after using the help section in Windows XP.

Here's my situation, I had tried to install Zone Alarm but something happened during the installation and I uninstalled it. Now I am trying to reinstall it and I get the error "Setup is unable to log in to the TrueVector Service." I have searched all over the place and I always get the same answers, like go into services and stop the service or use net stop "TrueVector internet" try using vsmon.exe -unload. But in the end, I cannot find the way to stop this service from starting, and I can' stop the service once its started. I've tried deleting every trace of it in my regedit but still no luck. What should I do? C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs... vsmon.exe dbghelp.dll are the only 2 files in that directory and the only 2 files I cannot delete because there in use. Im at a loss here

Answer:Zone Alarm's TrueVector Service... help

Here's a little something I found in regedit actually. It shows vsmon running as TrueVector Internet Monitor, but I tried net stop "TrueVector Internet Monitor" and net stop "vsmon" both times I get "The specified service does not exist as an installed service." I can't touch any of the files show in the .jpg because regedit wont let me.

Hello. I have a vista ultimate, use avast free, malwarebytes. I regularly scan my whole system. A month or so my computer stopped shutting down through the user interface. Sometimes it reaches the "logging off" screen then stops. Sometimes it reaches the "shutting down" screen then stops. It will just hang like that for hours, until I finally have to shut it down through the power button on the laptop itself.

Also, I once tried to check the previous versions for my computer, and the computer tells me that the previous versions service is not running.

Also, I the installer for windows does not work. I was trying to install Adobe Flash and it keeps telling me that there's a fatal system error. I have installed Photoshop, Indesign, Dreamweaver, and many other Adobe products on my computer. I have even installed Flash before, so I dont know whatl happened this time. The computer will usually install minor programs, but sometimes it wont. Also, it wont install superantispyware.

Also, the computer sometimes will not open certain programs and flash a box that says "No threads can be created in the system."

Like I said, I've tried a full scan with avast and malwarebytes, even in safe mode. The results keep telling me that the computer is clean.

Answer:Cant shutdown, install, and use previous version service

Use the Windows Error checking utility (Check Disk), with the options to scan the disk surface for errors, and attempt recovery of data and repair the disk.Open "My Computer"Right-click on the drive that you wish to check (C: drive/your System drive) > Properties > Tools > and in the "Error checking" section, click on "Check now".Place a tick in both boxes > Start.A message will notify you that a restart is necessary: Click OK, and close all windows.Re-start the computer. The disk will be checked when the system boots. This test will take some time to run and at times may appear stalled but just let it run. When the disk check is complete, the system will re-start automatically and load Windows. If any errors were found, it may be prudent to repeat the process.***************************************This just about sums up chkdsk /rQuote: "wow thanks, quick way to solve it."

I'm currently running the free version of ZoneAlarm. The version I have installed is 6.5.737.000 which has an installation file size of 13MB. On ZoneLabs' website, there's a free version 7.0.302.000 with an installation file size of 38.1MB. Is this the same free ZoneAlarm? Given the drastic increase in size, I'm a bit skeptical. That and if I manually check for updates via ZoneAlarm, it says I'm running the most current version.

Is anyone else running 7.0.302.000?

I was looking at my system logs today and found an error that is being repeated quite a lot and I would like to get rid of the darned error.

The error in the applications event loge is TrueVector Service, event 5003. The message in the event says:

TrueVector driver: Driver install or load failure: LoadNTDeviceDriver. Win32 error: The system cannot find the file specified.

I checked on the Internet and have found numerous resources indicating that TrueVector is a part of zone alarm. The weird part is that I have never had zone alarm or any other firewall installed -- Note even Microsft's within XP SP2. I have no references to Zone Alarm in my registry. My references to TrueVetor are in My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application\TrueVector Service

Can someone suggest any soluton to getting rid of this event?

2) New ZoneAlarm Version Disappoints
ZoneAlarm is beginning to suffer from "kitchen sink" syndrome: Each version has added more and more features until what once was a simple, elegant firewall is now a complex security suite.

The newest version of ZA Pro is supposed to add active antivirus protection to your mail stream. I really didn't need this function--- I already have an AV tool guarding the mail--- but didn't see a way to tell ZAP to disable its separate AV protection. Maybe the setting was there, but I never got that far...

As soon as I tried gathering mail, my resident AV tool (Norton) went nuts, popping up an unending stream of "virus found and removed..." messages. My guess is that ZA changed the way it processes and stores mail files, so that my AV tool no longer recognized the already-processed files as safe. I wasted an hour or so trying to get the two tools to play nice, but eventually gave up in disgust: Who has time for this? I tried uninstalling the new ZAP and reinstalling the previous version, but Norton remained badly hosed by all the diddling I'd done to it. In the end, it was faster and simpler for me to roll my system back to the pre-change state, using ZAP 4x as a firewall, and Norton for AV protection. Now everything works fine again.

I'm not the only one having trouble:

Is the free version of zonealarm good enough to use with broadband or should I use the packaged Mcafee personal firewall plus?If I decide to stay with zonealarm will I have to remove or re-set it in order to accept the change from dial-up to broadband modem? Many Thanks

Answer:Zonealarm (free version) and broadband.

I have been using the free version of Zonealarm with Broadband for about 18 months and am more than satisfied with it ~ and I'm a bit paranoid about security! (even though a hacker probably doesn't want my holiday pics etc)No you won't have to reconfigure when you connect to Broadband. Any program that requires access to the internet shall request it and you can decide to allow once or permanently. If you upgrade a program Zonealarm will ask the next time it tries to connect to verify you are still happy to allow the connection.Dead easy and free!

I run ZoneAlarm (Not Pro) and Ive just installed Kazaa lite Version 2. I was running Kazaa Lite 1.7 just fine, but 2 is causing trouble.

I'll try to explain everything I've noticed without rambling.

When I try to get Kazaa to connect with ZoneAlarm running, it takes a long time, but it actually does connect. While connected my machine is struggling, CPU usage way up and things get slower.

When I try to connect with ZoneAlarm shut down, it connects quickly, and there's no strain on the system.

Old Kazaa was listed in the Allowed programs area of ZoneAlarm, but I removed it. I figured when I tried to connect new Kazaa it would pop up the window and ask me if I wanted to allow it, but that didn't happen. Also, I try to manually add it to the list, but nothing happens, it won't appear in the list.

At the top on the ZoneAlarm program control screen, you see the icons of active programs. KazaaLite's icon is there and flashing, and if you scroll over it you get the bubble that says "Kazaa Lite Listening to Port(s): TCP: 1214,80"

So, there you go. I don't really know what to do. ZoneAlarm is not actually blocking KazaaLite, but its not getting along too well with it. Anyone know what settings I need to change to make them work together?

Is that a good idea? Should I uninstall the free version first? If I uninstall it will the Zone IP addresses get erased? If I install it on on top of the free version will my Zone IP addresses stay? I have a lot of IP addresses that I don't want to enter again.

"ZA 3.1 Free available to existing Users"

Quote from Zone Labs:
With over 17 million users of ZoneAlarm products, our primary concern with this launch is to provide a satisfactory upgrade experience for folks. To ensure that, we'll be making the upgrade available to a fixed percentage of our existing users every day, through the "Check for Updates" feature. This process will continue for several days before we officially announce ZoneAlarm on our site and make it available to the general public.

I've noticed that the newest free ZoneAlarm firewall available is version 7.0.302.000. Mine is version 6.5.737.000 and in the "Status" tab it claims it is up to date.

So my question is, is my firewall really up to date?

I do know that the new version includes the ZA security suite (which I do not want) and I'm wondering if the new version actually updated the firewall at all, or if it just added the extra software.

Thank you for your time! :^)

This may seem a weird question, but I just installed this firewall and it appears to be working as intended. But when I click on the "Help" link, I get told (repeatedly) "Help not available."

I think it must have a Help menu - I can't see how it could not have one--but even a reinstall did not produce a help menu. Could it be that it was left out as it's the free version so that you'd be tempted to go to an upgrade?

Has anyone run into this with ZoneAlarm free version? (I can't contact ZoneAlarm because the program is free.) Or has anyone any ideas as tol what might be causing the problem?

Answer:Does the free version of ZoneAlarm have a working Help Menu?

Answer:Zonealarm Service Agent?

I did a search on ZoneAlarm Service Agent and found a forum which seemed to have some conflicting answers. Not sure what to do.....A couple of things I read at this forum on this subject which concern me also:Zonealarm is vulnerable to theSelfDOS-Attack. Zonealarm cannot prevent any application from"phoning home", because tunneling is easy. But in their advertising,Zonelabs is assuring this. Zonealarm can be deactivated from anyMalware, which is running already, by inserting rules, becauseZonealarm has no password after installation. And if they would haveone, the malware just has to wait until the user enters it anytime. The "ID and privacy protection" feature even is counterproductive -it's resulting in publicizing the data, not protecting it.andI noticed that later versions, even if you turn off the automaticcheck for updates feature, insisted on 'calling home' anyway without mypermission. I don't allow software to remain installed if it does that.andTry watching it with Netpeeker. I too once caught ZA calling home withoutpermission, and netpeeker is the tool that caught it.I've come to trust you all here and only looked there because it was the first thing I came to while doing my search. So see, I do try to help myself, but still find that I'm just so leary (or lily-livered! haha!)....ETA: Oh yeah, they also said to check the update box on the ZA---mine says it's up-to-date. I just installed the new version of ZoneAlarm (6.0.667.000). I had the previous version, then I downloaded this new version and chose to do a fresh install (as it said that was the most stable way to do it). It did not say I needed to unintall the old version first. I have Windows 98SE and also use the free AVG.

Under Firewall - Zones: There are two things listed. The first is a "PPP Adapter" which lists an IP address (that changes each time I dial-up), Entry Type is "Adapter Subnet", and Zone is "Internet". I remember this being there with the older version of ZoneAlarm and believe it's supposed to be there.

However, there is now a second/new entry listed.

Name: Loopback adapter
IP Address/Site:
Entry Type: IP Address
Zone: Trusted

...however, I do have my security for the trusted zones set to high
just to be safe (as I do with the internet zone).

I tried looking this up in the ZoneAlarm help, and it talks about "VPN connections" which I have no idea what that is (and as far as I know, I don't have anything like that).

So, is this supposed to be listed? If so, why? If not, do I remove it? And am I okay having the Trusted Zones security level set to High just to be safe?

Thanks for the help!

Hi all,

Whenever I try to install a new version of a program over its previous version I get an error message mid installation saying:

"An error occurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory:

Move file failed; code 183

Cannot create a file when that file already exists."

When I get it it asks me to either retry, abort or ignore in the installation. The only way I can install the program is by uninstalling the current program, delete the files it left behind in my program file, and then run the installer of the new version of the program. I have a feeling its a registry problem but I'm not sure since I do clean my registry quite a bit with Advanced System Care Pro 3.

Any ideas how to fix this issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

My HP laptop has had problems for quite some time and I am attempting a repair install to fix it. I have spent several days on this and I am stuck. Reason for repair install:
1) running sfc /scannow returns message "Windows found corrupt...but was unable to fix some of them", 2) MS Security Essentials will not install
3) one other software program doesn't run correctly (may be because of my corrupt OS, not sure).
4) although I have many backups, I am pretty sure all of them have the corruption problem, as it was not obvious for some time. That is, most things run just fine and dandy and there is no sign of a problem (until trying to install MSE or run sfc or the one other software program).

I do have a recovery partition from HP, but that will erase all data. I prefer a repair because the time it takes to move user data, especially importing/exporting emails, many of which are encrypted, and importing/exporting the digital certs for myself and others, and hoping/praying that it all comes through. I am worried that I will lose valuable emails in the move or be unable to decrypt them afterward.

My HP laptop came preloaded with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I downloaded the iso for Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 U 64 bit, which I believe is the correct version for my machine. I made a DVD from the .iso using the Microsoft DVD/USB tool. I ran the DVD from within my existing Windows 7. It runs for about 2 hours and appears to be nearing the end. At that ... Read more

Answer:Problem with repair install - error msg disk version not comp with OS

The HP preinstalled WIn7 is the worst possible install one can have with the worst load of bloatware in the industry which corrupts and throttles Win7. No tech enthusiast would run such an install, but instead do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to finally enjoy Win7 OS you own which you haven't even gotten to experience yet with the worst possible install on earth.

It's obvious the corruption is beyond the point of repair. I would cut my losses, back up everything listed in the tutorial, then delete all partitions during the booted Custom Install, stick with the tools and methods given to get and keep a perfect install. You'll go from the worst install to the best in just a few short hours.

I have been trying to install Win7 SP1 for days, and keep getting the same error code... "Invalid Value for Registry. Error: REGDB_E_INVALIDVALUE (0x80040153)"

I did the online help, with now luck, I did the 'Troubleshooting problems installing a service pack for Windows 7', (the sytem readiness tool wont install either, the troubleshooter said it resolved a problem, but didn't, and I have Avast AV, and it won't let me shut it down even using task manager), unable to run Windows Update in Safemode and tried to download and install manually while in Safemode, but same error.

Here is what is in Event Viewer...

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932).

There are also a lot of these in Event Viewer, before and after the Install Failure...

"Event 18213 DistributedCOM.
The launch and activation security descriptor for the COM Server application with APPID
is invalid. It contains Access Control Entries with permissions that are invalid. The requested action was therefore not performed. This security permission can be corrected using the Component Services administrative tool."

Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but it looks like a problem as well.

Any idea how I can fix the registry error, short of re-installing Win7?

Thanks ahead!

About a week ago, I installed a new SSD and configured it as my boot drive running Win 7 Ultimate. Everything was working fine until yesterday. I ran windows update and attempted to install 2 updates and was prompted to restart. I clicked start-->install updates and shut down. When it was shutting down, the PC began stage 1 of 2 of configuring Service Pack. After 30% completion in stage 1, the computer restarts and begins configuring service pack again, starting from 30% where it left off. It gets up to 32% and stays there for about 30-45 min and the begins "Shutting Down" for an hour or so. Once it shuts down, I power it back on. Displayed is:

Stage 1 of 2
Failure configuring Service Pack
Reverting changes
Do not turn off your computer
I left this screen displayed for over 3 hours before performing a hard shut down and starting windows in safe mode for it to finally boot fully to windows. At that point, I receive an error stating that the Service Pack installation was not successful.

If any of you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. I have gone through this process 3 times now. Thanks in advance.

I have checked the Microsoft help page, multiple other people seem to have the same or a similar problem. Some of them have had success in solving it, but their solutions do not work for me. The service pack downloads fine, but fails when installing, giving me the error code 8024200D (which I have looked up, and the answers there did not help.) I have run the system update readiness tool, which did not find anything out of the ordinary, and I have also done the SFC scan, which also did not find anything out of the ordinary.

I have some suspicions that it might be because I have Windows N Ultimate edition, but I am not sure. The screenshot is from viewing the details of the failed update on the "view update history" screen in Windows Update. It doesn't really say anything that I have not already said. I am completely puzzled here.

I guess I COULD make a backup and install regular Windows 7 to fix the issue (even if it isn't compatibility, a clean install might fix it), but I would like to avoid that if possible. Thank you in advance, and if you need any more information to help me, don't be afraid to ask.

5) ran a registry edit to fix Windows Installer as found on MS website, still cannot install.
6) ran .NET cleanup tool from MSDN
7) reregistered msiexec for 64 bit, 4 commands.
8) tried reinstall using web installer
(all work done under administrative network login).
Also tried reinstall when logged in as local system administrator, same error.
I still get "Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed" error when trying to reinstall .NET Framework 4.5.2.
I do have the option to revert to restore point and get back to where this computer was before all this started.

Alright so, whenever I am trying to install Trend Micro Pc-Cillin on my machine at work, during what seems to be the very last step of the installation, an error pops up from the installer stating, "Unable To Install The COM Service.." .. and then it undoes the previous installation steps. I have tried installing the program from different cds, a flash drive and even tried downloading the software from trend, but it all produces the same error during installation. I also tried contacting trend about it, but they never responded, and I am unable to find any articles, etc, written online regarding this problem. Can someone please help me resolve this??! I'm pulling my hair out!!

Windows XP Home ; Service Pack 2

Answer:Can't Install Trend Micro Pc-cillin.. Com Service Error?

Out of curiosity...does your work computer already have a running antivirus program? Do you have all updates from Microsoft Update installed?

Also, do you have any previous versions of Trends antivirus installed on this computer?

I have tried multiple ways to resolve this problem (System Update Readiness Tool, SFC scan, Microsoft Fix it, manual installation, etc.) but to no avail.

When I try to install the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932) via Windows Update, the installation fails with an error code 800B0100.

When I tried to manually install the SP, an error message appeared with details: "trust_e_nosignature (0x800b0100)."

I am pretty frustrated considering the number of unsuccessful attempts and time I've thrown into fixing this problem. So, hoping that it will be addressed here, I have attached my CheckSUR log. Please let me know if any more information is needed.

After a cursory search, I see this has been addressed before. The Service Pack 1 update has been throwing me errors for way too long on a seldom used laptop. A friend "promised" that Noel the Magician would be able to suggest a solution. I've run SFC and SURT, (even SFCfix), Ccleaner and Malwarebytes which all report system clean except this issue.

I do have satellite internet with a data cap so am only able to do large files during the bewitching hours when bandwidth is free.

I hope I've included the necessary info: A huge TIA

Answer:Service Pack 1 update -error 800B100 failure to install

OMG - I have to live up to my reputation now? - I need a drink

Please post the CheckSUR.log file - CheckSUR/SURT doesn't display errors, unless it actually crashes.

There are no significant errors in the CBS log and nothing in the SFC scan.
The CBSPersist are almost entirely clear as well - the only problems are those occurring during the SP install.
The main one - which is what's causing the error message - is:

Line 1448: 2014-07-08 21:18:34, Error CBS Failed to verify if catalog file \\?\C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\488053cdbca3231eeb2c2af7236d09ed\ is valid. [HRESULT = 0x800b0100 - TRUST_E_NOSIGNATURE]
This sounds to me like a failed download.

I suggest attempting to install using the standalone installer - from here...

So I'm trying to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (64 Bit) But I'm getting the error 0x80070005. The only AV software I'm using currently is MSE. CBS.log is too large of a file to upload and too many characters to include in this post so I've uploaded it to Dropbox. Link:

Any other information required just ask. Thanks a ton.

I have a WIndows XP Lenovo T400 platform. I have recently tried to download and install iTunes Version 10. I am at the point now where I go to the apple site and start the download .

What essentially happens is the installer gives me a panel to repair or replace ( I choose repair ) , the process runs and at the end it gives me an error message that says:

Service 'iPod Service' ( iPod Service) failed to start. Verify you have sufficient priviliege to start system services.

You get an option to abort, retry or ignore. I took retry and ended up back at the same point. I then took ignore and the install process succesfully ends.

However, now when one attempts to synch the iPod, you get error messages that that process does not work .

So I need a way to either get this iPod Service installed and running or some foolproof remove and start over thing ( which I tried from the control panel but that didn't seem to work )

I am running Vista Home premium 32 bit and having huge trouble getting Service Pack 2 to install . I'm getting error code 80070570 ( File or directory is corrupted and unreadable )
So far I have tried

* Update from Window update ( get error code )

* Disabling antivirus and firewalls and trying it again ( still switched off and no joy)

* Switching windows automatic update off ( still get error code )
* Updating from the Standalone Pack ( get error code )
( and I have checked its the correct one for 32 bit )

* Running the System Update Readiness Tool ( was also getting an error code on this but I ran it in a clean boot and it installed but SP2 still wouldn't install afterwards

* Deleting the content of Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download File. I have also tried renaming this file I taking ownership ( I now have ownership and have full control according to the properties) and following every tutorial I can then it just will not let me rename it ( Destination folder access denied. You need permission to perform this operation )

* I've tried saving the SP2 file to the desktop and running it after a clean boot and also in safe mode - same error

My main Vista screen shows I have 1 GB of RAM if that affects it any
I've been pulling my hair out for 10 days now - has anyone see anything else I could do !!

Thanks in advance

Answer:Vista 32 bit Service Pack two will not install - error code 80070570

Try deleting "cd2b15b1a90e884578188440a1660b12" directory in c\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\
Once done Restart the computer and try installing Service Pack 2.

Before deleting it you need to take ownership of the Software Distribution Folder
To take ownership of a folder, follow these steps:
Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.In the Name list, click your user name, or click Administrator if you are logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group. If you want to take ownership of the contents of the folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message: You do not have permission to read the contents of directory folder name. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?
All permissions will be replaced if you click Yes.

Note folder name is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of.Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.

Hi all,

I'm having trouble trouble installing Windows 7 SP1 64-bit (error code: 800B0100).

I've tested numerous methods to solve the problem (including the steps found in your post instructions) but to no avail.

I've attached the CBS file as requested.

Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Answer:Windows 7 Service Pack 1 won't install (error code: 800B0100)

This issue may occur if the Component-Based Servicing (CBS) manifest is corrupted.

Did you try to run SFC /SCANNOW to check for damaged Windows files?

1. Open an elevated command prompt.
2. Run the "sfc /scannow" command.
3. Try to install update again.

Hope this helps.

I'm so frustrated with my computer. I may have to reinstall the OS, but I'm trying to avoid that. I can't install my new webcam because the driver won't install, so I'm trying to update to Service Pack 2 on my Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS. When I was installing the update, it "installed" and restarted the computer, but in the process of restarting, when the updates were being installed, I noticed it say something like, "Service pack didn't install" then it reverted back to the old settings. What do I do? Do I really have to reinstall my OS? I'll have to go through backing up all my photos and music, and it's such a hassle. Please help!

I had Windows XP service pack 1 installed and found that I needed to upgrade to sp2 to continue to run AVG's antivirus software as well as other programs.

I first encountered a cryptographic service related error (0x800710D9) when trying to install but managed to solve that. However my next attempt at trying to install the service pack failed. This occured near the end of the install. The message box said that my "Service Pack installation failed" and the error code associated with it was 0xD0000005. While looking through Microsoft's support pages it seemed I had an "access denied" problem and that the permission settings to the registry keys were wrong. I looked in the setupapi.log file to see which keys were affected but didn't have much luck. There was one error code that I did find though. Here are a couple of lines from the log file:

#E077 Could not locate a non-empty section [iis_doc_install] when calculating disk space in "C:\WINDOWS\INF\iis.inf". Error 0xe0000102: The required line was not found in the INF.
#E077 Could not locate a non-empty section [iis_ftp_install] when calculating disk space in "C:\WINDOWS\INF\iis.inf". Error 0xe0000102: The required line was not found in the INF.

Assuming that the installation was a failure I decided to restart my computer and attempt another reinstall in the hope that the problem might not happen again.

When I did this though the computer began to load Windows XP Se... Read more

Just want to inform that service pack 2 install gave me an error message when I installed it on a clean rebuild of my Toshiba laptop. Something about an incompatible driver. As I had already installed the latest drivers from Toshiba pages, I choose the 'ignore and continue' action at install, and the update successfully completed.

I then ran the Windows Upgrade advisor utility (just search a Microsoft website to find it) which checks for hardware/driver compliance with Vista.

Their report says that the Realtek RTL8187B wireless adapter driver has an issue with Vista, and recommends that the latest driver be installed. Since I do have the latest Toshiba driver installed, what is the procedure to follow?

The wifi connection with this laptop functions well, with the only 'problem' being a 45 second delay when waking up from sleep mode to being able to open a new web page. This is the time it takes to establish a connection to my router/modem.

> Their report says that the Realtek RTL8187B wireless adapter driver has an issue with Vista, and recommends that the latest driver be installed. Since I do have the latest Toshiba driver installed, what is the procedure to follow?

You could try the Realtek WLan driver from the Realtek driver page.
There you can find the latest Realtek drivers for different Realtek chips.

But to be honest I would not be worried about this massage.
Something like that can happens always after any installations of the Microsoft service packs.

I remember that many drivers were not supported by SP1 but they ran properly?

So take it easy ;)

I have Windows Vista.
My Windows Updates is trying to install "Office XP Service Pack 3".
However, whenever I try to install it, I am prompted for a CD of "Microsoft Works Suite 2002 disc 1".
However, my computer never came with such a CD. It came with one called "Microsoft Works 8.5". (Besides, Vista was not being used in 2002, so something is weird.)
Since I don't have the required CD, my installation always fails with error code 8024002D.
Can someone please help me with this?

Answer:Unable to install Office XP Service Pack 3 on Vista - Error 8024002d

Title of the post is so wrong....
You may have got Microsoft Works 8.5 pre-installed in your PC. and v8.5 is Version 2006.
