Google Typo Crashes Systems

Question: Google Typo Crashes Systems

for your information:

Spyware authors and phishing fraudsters yanked an old scam out of the playbook Wednesday by directing malicious code at Internet users who may be prone to typing or spelling deficiencies, according to security researchers.

Finnish security firm F-Secure said they discovered an attack aimed at Web surfers attempting to land on Google's (Quote, Chart) homepage, but who may have mistyped the Web address.

Internet users who punch in "Googkle.com" are treated to a host malicious code, as the computer gets slammed with a heap of the unwanted software that is automatically downloaded and installed. The malware includes: Trojan droppers, Trojan downloaders, backdoors, a proxy Trojan and a spying Trojan. A few adware-related files are also installed, the firm said.

Preferred Solution: Google Typo Crashes Systems

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

NAME: Googkle
ALIAS: Googkle.com

Summary

F-Secure staff has found a malicious website that utilizes a spelling error when typing the name of the popular search engine - 'Google.com'. If a user opens a malicious website, his/her computer gets hijacked - a lot of different malware gets automatically downloaded and installed: trojan droppers, trojan downloaders, backdoors, a proxy trojan and a spying trojan. Also a few adware-related files are installed.

The name of the malicious website is 'Googkle.com'. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS WEBSITE! Otherwise your computer will get infected! We have reported the case to the authorities.

Detailed Description

Our investigation revealed that the whole infection starts from the 'googkle.com' website. This website, as well as a few related websites are owned by people with Russian names. Also several malicious files that are downloaded from these websites have Russian texts.

When the 'googkle.com' is opened in a browser, it shows 2 popup windows that are linked to the following websites:

www ntsearch.com
toolbarpartner.com

The 'ntsearch.com' website downloads and runs the 'pop.chm' file and the 'toolbarpartner.com' website downloads and runs the 'ddfs.chm' file. Both files are downloaded using exploits and they contain exploits themselves to run embedded executable files. One of the webpages of the 'toolbarpartner.com... Read more

I am having this exact same issue (same system almost) and here is what I have found (still haven't fixed it on original system).

I have updated drivers for the video card to the latest: no effect
I have placed the video card in a different computer with the same motherboard: Same problems appear with that computer
I have placed the video card in a computer that does not have the same motherboard: No failure in that system.
*I have placed a different video card in the originally crashing system and it works flawlessly.
I have wiped windows and started fresh: system works until I install updated graphics drivers.

My theory is that something is wrong between the graphics card and the motherboard but I can't seem to understand why this problem wasn't occurring from the beginning.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I'd suspect the graphics card itself is faulty. I recommend you return it, if it's still under warranty.

In middle April this computer unexpectedly crashed, would not allow access to the D:\ system and I did a clean OS install. Since then every computer (and ROKU player) attached to my Verizon Westell VersaLink model 326w has crashed and only a clean install would breath life into them. The hardest hit was my old reliable DELL Dimension 4300, one by one, everything but the still working floppy drive and the C:\ drive which is inaccessable. CD and DVD drives spin up and lights blink as does the hard drive.Once again this computer is showing symptoms and today had two BlueScreenofDeath restarts. After restoring 5 computers in as many weeks my brain feels like a steaming puddle of brown stuff. Not to sound paranoid but this feels as if it's a personal attack. This and all other computers ran slow and had many Internet Explorer (Not Responding) troubles, files named "blekko" and the unwanted "Search.com" toolbar installed without asking.Thank You in advance for your much appreciated help...Judie909090...J.DDS (Ver_2011-08-26.01) - NTFSx86 Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702 BrowserJavaVersion: 10.4.1Run by David Higginbotham at 18:12:05 on 2012-05-27Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.1014.426 [GMT -7:00].AV: Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2012 *Enabled/Updated* {7D2296BC-32CC-4519-917E-52E652474AF5}.============== Running Processes ===============.C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.ex... Okay helping a friend via long distance phone calls and the random email. This is the only info I have, if someone could shed some light on this and help, we both would appreciate it. Here is the email she was able to send:

"Still messing with that damn trojan. AVG sees it and asks the usual, delete, heal, or move to vault. No matter how many times I choose delete, or heal or even move, it comes back again and again. This is what was causing my IE to try and dial out (at least, that's what I get from looking online for info on this damned thing) and share my info with the hacker. Avast does not seem to see...this file. It is saving itself (and apparently restoring itself) in my Windows folder as a dll file. prntsvr.dll to be exact.

The name AVG gives is PSW.Dumarin.C. The last thing I tried was to turn my
system restore off, delete the file and re-start... but guess what? lol, Yep, it is still there. *sigh* Why do people have to make these things???"

------------end of message--------------
Looking around for info I found only ONE place (so far) that had any info about it, and that is assuming she misspelled the name of the thing...

Name: [email protected]
Aliases: W32.Dumaru.B/C | [email protected] | W32/Dumaru-B

Question: Microsoft Typo

Microsoft made a typo in their WinSAT application, How can we let them know about it?

Answer:Microsoft Typo

Hi Steven,

You can try contacting them by following the link below. Whether or not you will get a response I cannot say. I have managed to locate the error in the 'WinSAT.exe' file (notice the space between the letters), and you can edit it to replace the erroneous 'o' with an 'i', however by doing so you will probably cause it to fail an SFC scan. In my opinion, it is such a minor error that it is probably best left ignored.

I mistyped a url earlier (I believe i typed 'radiosahck' instead of radioshack) and was redirected to a strange website (something about internet surveys I believe) I closed it right away and did a quick scan with malwarebytes to make sure nothing was wrong, and it came up empty. I'm probably being a bit paranoid here, but is this anything to really worry about?

Answer:Odd URL typo redirect...

Redirects can be something to worry about, as you have no idea what content is being hosted on the re-direct. Most popular anti virus programs, have real-time scanning, where it's constantly scanning your computer, and as soon as you're redirected to a bad website, it will block any content that's harmful to your computer. I use Eset and it does this.

So I was browsing around in Windows Defender (Windows Settings > Update & Security > Windows Defender > Open Windows Defender Security Center > Virus & threat protection > Virus & threat protection settings, then scroll down to Controlled folder access.)

The sentence "Protect your files and folders from unauthorized changed by unfriendly applications" has a typo in it.
(Refer to the attached picture)

Either:
? The word "changed" has a typo in it and should be the word "changes" (with an 's' instead of a 'd'), or
? There is at least one missing word in between the words "unauthorized" & "changed"
Somebody should inform Microsoft about this typo.

But Also: I noticed that this is a new option, since the last time I was browsing around in there. What does this option exactly do? It was originally off, but I turned it On. Yet I must say that I have seen a few messages pop up in the right corner of the screen, stating that Windows Defender blocked some programs from making changes. One of them showed explorer.exe from modifying the Favorites folder without me doing anything with Favorites. Exactly what does this option do? Is it kind of like some sort of strict "Firewall"? Because if so, then I like that.

Answer:HAH, I Found A Typo In Windows!

Mine says 'unauthorised' (but then it should in the UK) - still has the typo though

Blocks access to your files and documents by unknown apps (malware/ransomware). It's off by default because not all 'good' apps are in it's 'trusted' list. It takes a bit of fiddling to get all your apps to work after you turn it on.

Hi can someone please help clear up my concerns because I accidentally interned the wrong DNS address on my new router.
After entering this typo I almost immediately that my connection was unstable especially on Linux and yesterday evening when I logged back into my router the DNS settings were set to there defaults. But I was able to surf the web kinda in Windows though it timed out often and certain webpages wouldn't even open, and now when ever I enter the correct DNS settings it disconnects from the internet.

Here's what I entered

222.67.222.222
220.67.220.220

Instead of

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

I'm really feeling uneasy and stressed about this, any advice?

Why does stuff like this happen whenever your in poor health or any other of life's trials and complications?

Answer:Open DNS typo on router

Two things you might check:

1. In Windows, do your Network Properties have a DNS Server entry(s) that point(s) to your router (probably 192.168.1.1 or close) or do they point to the published OpenDNS IP addresses? Easy check: From an Elevated Command Prompt: ipconfig /all

2. After you corrected the DNS router entries, did you have the router do a cold reboot?

I believe you shouldn't overly stress yourself over this if you didn't make any financial transactions. But new passwords could be needed.

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing the red typo lines when there are no typos. This happens on occasion when I'm typing emails and posting or responding to forums. It seems to occur when there is an actually typo and I correct the error. After that the entire post/email from that point on will have the red typo lines.

For example it is happening now... I'll try to post a pic for a better understanding.

Has anyone experience this as well and most importantly does anyone know of a solutions to this?

My unit is new and I have yet to DL Office 365 so I don't have Word. Not sure if that will matter.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

I am having a problem when i misspell URLs.

When i type things like google.con instead of .com, i am redirected to a host of different search sites, including searchathand.com, and daplaces.com. I am pretty sure i must be infected with something, but i have ran several online and offline spyware and malware scanners and nothing seems to find a problem.

I am running Firefox version 1.5.0.6, but the problem also occurs in IE as well.

Advise please!

Cheers

Joel

Edit: I seem to have found what i think is the culprit for this...but this leads to another problem.

There is a HJT entry stating
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{A2EA3617-0DD4-4C7B-89EC-1F1FB24D96E1}: NameServer = 85.255.114.7 85.255.112.174

I have removed this on a couple of occasions and it only returns a few minutes later.

Help please!!!

Memory corruption caused by an unknown driver. Please run memtest and driver verifier.

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

I think this is a virus behavior. Recently whenever I type in microsoft waord or notepad or fill up webforms in IE, the cursor jumps anywhere in the previous sentences, or highlights the last some letters somewhere and the entire type goes haywaire. Now Also this is getting typed anywhere and I have to delete, retype. very painful. I have Norton antivirus 2005, zerospyware (after reading the latest article in your mag only), adware, spybot and zone alarm, all fully updated. and none have been able to pick up a virus/spyware after a thorough system scan. I am going crazy typing, especially when i am prescribing medicines to my patients. I don't want to reload windows and all my applications again.Pl HelpDr Alok Modi MD

Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo? For example, I type "tsanding," and instead of changing it to "standing," it underlines it red. I know I can then right-click it, and select AutoCorrect > standing, so that, from now on, if the same exact typo arises in the future, in which I accidentally type "tsanding," it'll change it to "standing." I've thus far collected *hundreds* of specific typo corrections in this way. But that's very time-consuming, and is only a weak attempt at preventing typos I may be likely to make in the future (based on the fact that I made the exact typo at least once before). Is there any way to establish that I want Microsoft Word to go ahead and correct every single "underlined red" occurrence from now on, based on its best guess as to what I meant? (except in cases where the typo was so bad that it has no guess at all) That way, when it corrects something I *didn't* want corrected, I can then go back and add what I wanted to its dictionary, to tell it not to consider that word an accident from then on.

Answer:Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo?

Found this in the Word Help files. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options. In the Replace box, type a word or phrase that you often mistype or misspell ? for example, type usualy. In the With box, type the correct spelling of the word ? for example, type usually. Click Add. Is this what you're talking about?

So I decided to buy Windows 7 from eBay. I didn't trust the people selling product keys only, so I purchased a brand new retail package. When I shop on eBay, I always look for sellers that are really close to me so shipping is fast. So I found a seller, said to be located in Maryland (which is two states away from me), with a great price and great feedback for his W7 sells. I was pissed because when the guy sent me the tracking number, I found out that the item was coming from Beijing, China, not Maryland! But I figured, well at least he shipped it.

THEN, I get an email from eBay saying the listing for the item I just purchased because the copyright holder reported that the item may be a counterfeit. At first I was pissed at eBay because now I had to record of the transaction in my eBay account and could not contact the seller directly from within the item invoice, since eBay deleted. Plus, he had several other sells of this same item, all with positive feedback of the W7 package, and eBay did not remove the listings for them. So I was like, why me? Luckily, I had his email from paypal and contacted him. He assured me that he is the legal owner of the item and that he sent proof to eBay saying so. Still never got my records back.

Anyway, this prompted me to search counterfeit Windows 7 retail packages. I found some interesting info, but my package doesn't fit any of the counterfeit profiles Microsoft says to look out for. The top hologram is built onto the ... Read more

When I put my U330 to sleep and wake it back up it often appears to have rebooted. It will require me to log in again and all the programs I was working on before will be closed. Why does this happen? Also, I have set the power settings so that when I close the lid without putting the computer to sleep, it will automatically go to sleep. But this frequently doesn't work, and it runs out of batteries while closed. Again, any idea why? What should I do? Alex

Answer:My Windows 7 copy looks counterfeit. Typo on back cover. Came from China (eBay). Pics

It's fake, that's pretty obvious. The hologram thing is most likely a sticker on top of the actual disc surface - you can use a fingernail or razor blade at the very edge and lift it up a bit, that's 100% proof. The part numbers don't seem to match up with the actual Windows 7 Ultimate part number, and it just has a fake quality all the way around.

If you contact Microsoft, show them the pics, explain where you bought it from and your situation, there is a small - small but it exists - chance they'll provide you with a key just for making the report and identifying the seller you got it from.

No guarantees, but at the moment you're better off reporting it to them and going from there. Sure can't hurt to let them know, either way.

I'd report it, personally, without even really thinking about it. It just SCREAMS fake.

Lately, I've heard some people say that the Unix code is more secure than the Windows code and that the Windows code has many holes and bugs in it. Before, I always thought Unix systems (for example, Mac) were less likely to get infected by viruses only because they had a lower market share. However, I'm starting to wonder if the Unix code is really more secure than the Windows code. Is this true? Also, does the Windows code really have that many bugs and holes in it?

Answer:Are Unix systems more secure than Windows systems?

It is rather debatable, its harder to compare two completely different codes and say one is flawed and one is not.

Though Unix/Linux does appear to be a bit more secure, which is why Apple's OS X (their baby), is based on a unix-code.

Answer:Google earth crashes PC

Integrated graphics is not great, but Google Earth can't be that graphics intensive. You could have other problems and Google Earth was the final straw.

Boot to Safe Mode and uninstall Google Earth. Then reboot to Normal Mode and see if that's possible. If you can, then try reinstalling Google Earth again.

The rejection of XP Internet Explorer by most websites (some XP let you ignore the no certificate and GO TO SITE ANYWAYS), but with most problems this forces the use of Google Chrome as a browser. ONE very big problem is lock ups and halts and slow-downs that are caused by Google Crash Handler unless you open the Task Manager and end its task with End Process or End Process Tree. This then lets your Outlook Express unlock and get mail, and lets halted opening programs finish opening etc. THE PROBLEM IS how do you uninstall Google Crash Handler. You cant search it, cant find it, where's the file, where's the registry of it. REAL PAIN. so help me.

I have started having occasional problems starting Google.co.uk which I use as my home page on Firefox. Instead of starting up correctly the page comes up black with the search window pushed over to the right of the screen. If kill and restart Firefox, sometimes it comes up OK. Other times I have had to reboot to get it work properly.

So far I have done a virus check on the machine and it comes up clean and I haven't been able to find any reference to a similar problem on the net.

I'm not too sure if I have changed anything recently, because I use automatical updates, but I did have a few problems getting Java updated recently. I think I sorted that though.

I am currently running.

Good evening! I was talking to jntkwx on another thread and he has now sent me to this one. I constantly get redirected when clicking on something from Google search. It happens in Mozilla and I can't open IE anymore. I have run Malwarebytes multiple times without finding anything. I had Norton on my computer about 2 nights ago, but it seems to have been removed from my computer since without me doing it. My computer crashes about 4-5 times a day when going to sleep. It pops up a blue screen that prompts that it is doing a physical memory dump, then shuts off.

Here is the link to the other thread: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic420758.html

I have attached the DDS log as instructed. When I ran GMER, it gave me a notification that it did not find any system modifications and did not create a log.

Please let me know if you need any other information.

Anybody else suffering from frequent Google Earth crashes?
I have several Vista PCs. All but one run Google Earth flawlessly.

The one that has problems with Google Earth (the machine in my sig) will start it & run it fine... for usually less than a minute. I obviously either have something installed currently which conflicts with Google Earth, or I had something installed which uninstalled incorrectly.
Any ideas of frequent offenders? Anything specific to check for?

Also you could try going to start\run and type in:
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
then enter.

Another remote possiblility would be a problem with a cookie or temp Inet file or possibly a History file. You may try deleting those.

Thats about all I can think of. Maybe others will have further ideas.

I'm "revitalizing" an Acer Aspire M1610 (ca. late 2007) running 32-bit Vista (ugh!) that was owned by a "grandfather" who knew nada about computers and never updated anything. So after 150 or so Microsoft updates, it's come into century 21, complete with SP2 and all security updates. It had only 1GB RAM (the minimum to run Vista; and it's in two DIMMs), so I have also replaced one of the DIMMs with a 2GB, so we now have 2.5GB RAM. Have also updated video and sound drivers.

I installed Google Earth (GE). It works fine except for one thing: When it opens, the window is relatively small, so I want to expand the window size. If I try to drag the frame in any direction OR click the full-screen icon, the computer freezes. Total lockup; have to use the power button to shut down. Have tried uninstalling GE using Revo Uninstaller, 4th level, and reinstalling, but it doesn't change the behavior.

This only happens with GE, although there are instances with other programs (rare) where the OS also crashes. I assume this is a Vista problem, which is why I posted here. . . but maybe it's not. Anybody have an idea what might have gone wrong?

Hello,My computer crashes quite often down, resulting in the ever feared BSoD. It often happens when I"m installing software or opening a program or the likes, but it is quite tedious. Also, when I click on a Google or Yahoo search link, I either am met with gibberish or a redirection to various ad websites. If I leave Chrome open on my computer after several hours it will crash. It appears to be random. Sometimes it will stay open for a day or two and other times it will crash after only a few hours. Using Windows Vista & MalewareBytes Anti Malware software.

Hi rdwharley,

One thing you can do is to un-install the re-install Google Chrome and see if that works out for you.

When on Google Chrome, the screen will freeze or crash.  Often saying it cannot connect to the website.  Or when navigating the website, it can't go forward. Also have Norton installed and I'm wondering if I've caused problem between Microsoft firewalls and security and Norton.I hope I'm making sense.  Not a technical person.

I'm not sure where do I post this one, sorry if it's in the wrong section.

My Firefox browsers all crash when I try to use Google Images. Going something like this.

1. Google.
2. Go to Google Images.
3. Search for something on Google Images.
4. If I try to click on anything on my search results (Search settings, images, new search, etc.), it crashes.

I've only half a guess that this problem might have started after I downloaded a Porcelain and Chalet font yesterday, but it was still working fine then. The problem only came today.

I just did a scan with ESET Online Scanner and it says nothing's wrong.

Any idea what might have caused this problem?

Answer:Google Images crashes with Firefox.

Hello, guys!
For some time I've got a problem with Google Chrome: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95669?hl=en
I've done my research and tried various solutions found on many forums but nothing has helped. The situations(with similar problems) seem pretty specific, so maybe the reason is specific as well... Anyway, I don't remember when the error began to appear, and I don't know what could be the cause.. The error appears not only on chrome, but also on Opera, although I installed it when chrome had been already broken. The most often failure occurs when I try to turn on a movie - whether on youtube, or some series site - but also when I go on facebook. Sometimes, refreshing a page like 10 times makes things alright, but generally the error is more problematic. What's more, it occurs irregularly.
"0xC0000008 - STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE" - the error.
I have already turned off hardware acceleration in the browser and done memtest. I have already tried turning off avast and comodo internet security and I reset the browser's settings. How to fix it?
Thank you in advance:)

Answer:Google Chrome problem - crashes

My guess is a Anti-virus program or software that is brokering the HTTP requests. Why do you have Avast and Comodo? If both have active firewalls, that could be the problem.

Also, does it effect others or other devices on the network?

Last, when the problem happens, what does a speed test say?

Hello, friends.

I have Win7 running pretty well, now and most of the software is up and running. That is, except Google Earth. There is no way this program runs on my machine under Win7.

I have it running fine under XP, but something happens with Win7 that crashes the machine the moment the program starts.

I have uploaded my system specs below and will appreciate any suggestion.

Many, many thanks in advance!

McQ

Answer:Google Earth Crashes Win7

Hello mcquicker,

If you go to User CP and fill in your system specs there, it would be much easier for everyone.

Google Earth is running fine here without compatibility mode. Do you have the latest version?

If so, you might try running it in Compatibility Mode.

Hope this helps.

Hey all!

I just purchased a new Acer Ax1301:
Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AX1301-U1302 Athlon II X2 215(2.7GHz) 4GB DDR2 750GB NVIDIA GeForce 9200 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

And Samsung monitor :
Newegg.com - SAMSUNG B2430H Glossy Black 24" 5ms Full HD 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 70000:1(1000:1)

I have updated everything and downloaded the latest driver from nvidia.

I have the latest version of Google Earth and when I run it the screen randomly goes black and the HDMI signal sign produced by the monitor appears in the upper left corner and then the monitor comes back.

I am using a new HDMI cable to connect PC to monitor.

I searched the forums and tried other fixes people here suggested but none work.

I have a WEI score of 4.3, which is the lowest for Windows Aero performance...gaming graphics experience is a 5.3 I think.

Is this an issue with Earth, or Win 7 64 bit?

I am loving this new PC and monitor and Win 7 save for this issue!!

Thanks for any suggestions or help, still trying to learn as mush as I can going through the forums here!

Hi,

The problem which has been really bugging me is that when I double click Chrome, it opens and you can see the outline of the browser but then Data Execution Prevention opens and closes it. I tried putting Chrome as an exception for DEP and tried opening the browser again. Now, it just opens for 0.5 sec and closes, no error messages. This has happened before and still happens with Acrobat Reader on my computer. If I try to open a .pdf using it, it opens for 0.5 sec then closes with no error message. I never really cared though as I could compensate by just opening .pdf files on Chrome. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling and other fixes I've found on the internet but nothing works.

So, my computer is an XP Service Pack 3. Before this happened, I was playing Dark Souls on my horrendous computer and may have destroyed my graphics card (however that is a story for another thread) I opened task manager and noticed that wuauclt.exe had a 130MB memory usage so I decided to end process. Got bored of 15 FPS Dark Souls and restarted my computer and that's when the problems started.

I would really appreciate someone's help on this matter
Thanks

Do you have avast? There are complaints on the internet that the Webrep feature causes Chrome to crash and the resolution seems to be to disable Webroot. You can find more information on avast forums, if you have avast.

I have no option but to power down and start up again.

So far I have tried:
Downloaded the latest graphics card driver

Hello,

My problem started with Google Chrome telling me that Flash has stopped responding as soon as I opened the browser, and I could it close and be fine. Now it has gotten to the point to where it freezes and only tells me Chrome has stopped responding (after a few tries it will finally open). I then noticed while using google on Firefox I get redirected every few searches. I'm not sure if they're related.

I've ran Malwarebytes, Avira AntiVir, SuperAntiSpyware, TDSS Killer, Hitman Pro, GooredFix, and ESET Online scanner and I'm still having both problems. What should I do to fix this?

I'm running Vista Home Premium

Hello
I have had something hijacking my google browser for months now.
A while back when I started having problems, MBAM found something called Trojan.Fakealert and deleted it.
But after a while of thinking my computer was clean, I was being redirected again.
It seems like the redirects happen in bursts. For a while I will not be able to go to any links because of it.
THen it seems like it lays dormant maybe for weeks at a time. I eset online scanner, which identified several problems
and then fixed them all, but just like before, after a few days I was getting redirected again. Nothing I have can identify
any malware in my system, so I don't know what elso to do. I also checked to make sure my hosts file was clean. I deleted one extra entry
and since then nothing more has been written in it, but my problem persists.
In addition, I having major porblems with error reports, which make it hard to do anything. Examples are Google toolbar installer, windows installer, adobe flash helper
and other processes when I am on the internet or just running an application.
Please help get my computer back to normal. I'm running Windows Vista on an Hp.

I am an intermediate-advanced computer user. Google Chrome was working fine until recently. When I tried to open it, I got the window 'Woah! Google Chrome has crashed. Restart?" every time when I clicked on it. Restarting the computer did nothing. Reinstalling Chrome did nothing. Uninstalling with Revo, and reinstalling did nothing. When Chrome is reinstalled it gives a promising few seconds of time before crashing but that was the only progress I saw. What else do you advise?
I have backed up all User Data and Local Settings so I don't risk losing my extensions, settings and greasemonkey scripts. All extensions etc were removed by the uninstall. I have kept backups in a different folder (the desktop) but the reinstall removed the originals from the App Data folder.
I am not going to move user account or take as drastic measures as reinstalling the OS. I am sure this can be sorted out. Perhaps I am running messed up software / malware is installed but no peculiar tasks are running. Messed up software is unlikely as I tried whilst running the minimum amount of programs and the same thing happened. Actually, that's when it started.

Hi,

I've only noticed this behaviour over the last week or so, and I've tried quite a few things to fix it but nothing has worked so far, I'm hoping someone can help.

Symptoms:
Google redirects on just about all searches (except Wikipedia pages)
cmd from start->run won't execute
regedit didn't work either, I fixed that but now it doesn't work again (I use a copy of regedit now)
msconfig does work
firefox crashes fairly regularly

AVG finds nothing wrong, Malwarebytes finds nothing wrong, Kaspersky finds nothing wrong.

Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Below is the log from the latest full Malwarebytes scan I did this morning.
(Note: I tried recently installing service pack 3 but it hung on me, I haven't tried again since)

Thanks,
Rich

I Am Going To Divide This Into 2 Topics. First Topic Being The Crashes (As it takes less time to explain) And The Constant BSoD's

Google/Skype Crashes
Recently I have been crashing in Google Chrome (I Have Already Un-Installed And Re-Installed It). So far I have noticed it mostly occurs when i'm watching Youtube/Netflix or if i'm on a website with plenty of pictures. So I also thought it could be my flash player. So I uninstalled that and reinstalled it. No fix their. My skype no matter what lasts for a decent 1-2 hours before it crashes and I have to remove it from task manager and open it back up. I haven't uninstalled skype and reinstalled it because I figured it wouldn't be much help as Google Chrome proved.

BSoD's
Now my BSoD issue is more frequent and a lot more annoying as I have to boot up my PC all over again. These annoying BSoD's occur whenever I try to play a game. They rarely occur when I watch a video but they are pretty uncommon on Netflix. Now a big problem with my BSoD's is that their a good variety with different causes. My BSoD's

I have a computer that seems to have a google redirect virus. The OS is Win XP SP2. The symptoms include redirects (which always go through IP 91.212.132.200), disfunctional Acrobat reader (throws the 'instruction XXXXX at location XXXXX could not be read/written'), and IE browser windows that close at random intervals. Symantec and Malware Bytes do not find anything.

I was able to run the dds script and have attached the resulting logs. GMER runs for a long time and one of two things happen: GMER becomes unresponsive or the computer restarts. I cannot get a log out of it (after the first attempt failed, I changed the name to test.exe and retried twice).

ANY assistance would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to avoid a total wipe and reinstall. Thanks in advance!

Hello FarmallMan Welcome to the TSF Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum. I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system.

I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process.

After 3 days if a topic is not replied to we assume it has been abandoned and it is closed.

I would like you to try running GMER once again but this time in addition to the things you unchecked in the first runs add these to those you uncheck before running:

Hi All,I've been having an issue for the past few weeks with Google searches through Firefox. Any search made through Google, there is a good chance it will be redirected to a bogus page with advertising links. Also, since this has started to happen, Firefox has been very prone to freezing up and crashing. Sometimes after it freezes up it's impossible to get rid of, and I have to restart the computer just to make it function once again. I have Norton 360 and I've used Malwarebytes, and neither has picked up on anything or fixed the problem. Posted below and attached are all of the appropriate logs. Hello everyone and thanks in advance for all of your help. The issues I'm currently having are these Google work from home/weird anti virus pop ups and redirecting. Mozilla constantly crashes and the anti-virus I have installed (McAfee and Avast!) goes off line. I attempted to log in safe mode but it wont allow me to. When I log off, I see end programs for something called Dr. Watson and McAfee detects a trojan by the name of Vundo. The system I'm running is Gateway DX300/Windows XP Media Center Edition

It appears that you have two antivirus programs installed and running, avast! and McAfee. While this may seem like better protection, they can actually conflict with one another and cause system instability or even system hangs. Please choose one to keep and uninstall the other via Add or Remove Programs in your Control Panel.

Answer:IE and Google Chrome crashes on startup

Try downloading MBAM and AdwCleaner to a flash drive or CD...DVD using another computer.
Move to the possibly infected computer, install and run scans following the directions below.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here
Double-click mbam-setup-2.X.X.XXXX.exe to install the application (X's are the current version number).
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
Once MBAM opens, when it says Your databases are out of date, click the Fix Now button.
Click the Settings tab at the top, and then in the left column, select Detections and Protections, and if not already checked place a checkmark in the selection box for Scan for rootkits.
Click the Scan tab at the top of the program window, select Threat Scan and click the Scan Now button.
If you receive a message that updates are available, click the Update Now button (the update will be downloaded, installed, and the scan will start).
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
If potential threats are detected, ensure that Quarantine is selected as the Action for all the listed items, and click the Apply Actions button.
While still on the Scan tab, click the link for View detailed log, and in the window that opens click the Export button, select Text file (*.txt), and save the log to your Desktop.
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can also be viewed by clicking the History tab and then selecting Application Logs.
POST THE LOG FOR REVIEW... Read more

Mod Edit: Moved to Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs ~~boopme

Two days ago google chrome started giving me Aw Snap error message on every website I would load, was also getting message about shockwave flash crashing. Well today when I try to open chrome my display distorts the image on it and the computer freezes and the only thing I can do is reset the computer using the power switch. The weird thing is that when I start my computer in Safe Mode with Networking google chrome works just fine. I am including a HijackThis log. I have scanned with AVG and spybot search&destroy.

Google links redirect to some stupid Ad site, even in Firefox (IE gets this all the time, but I've never seen it on firefox)

Until recently firefox has been crashing constantly within seconds of loading. Avast can't seem to stay on anymore...

Avast keeps catching DLLs and stuff but it can't get rid of them as they're loaded into memory. I've run two or three boot scans, and I'm still coming up with more stuff.

Ran Avast, Ad-Aware, Spybot, MBAM, CCleaner
