Windows Update will not load

Question: Windows Update will not load

Windows XP Professional
IE 6 SP1

This workstation had been hit with a virus and malware had been installed.
Cleaned the virus off with Trendmicro and using AdAware SE to clean up the malware.

Now Windows update will not load. IE opens but the window remains white. PC is configured to receive Microsoft updates from our Software update server but can't verify the updates because Windows Update will not come up. IE will browse to other web sites.

Ran HijackThis. The log is below. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Windows Update will not load

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows Update will not load

You have been hit by the new Bube.d (aka Win32.Beavis) virus which severely messes with some Windows settings, including the update feature.

Save the BOLD to notepad,as Fix.reg as"Type" all files

=====================================

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Double click Fix.reg and answer "yes" to merge into the registry.

I have doubts that Trend will have removed the virus totally and chances are it will be back........this link will give detailed instructions for complete removal and any specific fixes you need to do afterwards.

You will need to disable your own A/V program and download KAV 30 day trial.

Please dont post to that thread, when completed, post back here with an updated HijackThis log.

Update - 9/8/15

Fixed by reinstalling Windows fresh (Again).

I think the problem was caused by installing Windows linked with my Microsoft account and then switching that to a local user. My Microsoft account was registered for the insider program so perhaps I was receiving the fast updates and switching to a local account put me on slow updates which got Windows Update muddled in the confusion.

Original Post

Windows Update appears to be stuck/broken. It displays this loading animation even when left alone for an entire day (See screenshot). All the other panels such as Windows Defender will display their available options, it is only Windows Update that will not show.

This is a clean install of Windows 10 Home.

I have made some alterations to the service configuration, disabling what I had been advised as unnecessary services. I have reverted as many of those changes as I could remember but it is a possibility that one of those changes caused this.

Background Intelligent Transfer service is "Running" and set to "Automatic (Delayed Start)".
Windows Update service is "Running" and set to "Manual (Trigger Start)".

8 Aug 15 - Edit: I have cross referenced services with another computer with an unaltered fresh install of Windows 10 Home. No difference in service configuration was found.

Internet connectivity is stable. Network profile is "Public". No alterations have been made to the default network configuration.

Answer:Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update - does not load

Hi wadlip,

I have done exactly the same fixes as you - to no avail. Nothing works. I am surprised by a lack of response by Microsoft. In addition to not being able to update, i cannot update the definitions for Windows Defender. This issue has definitely something to do with BITS.
If i stumble over the solution, i'll post here. I have all night to find the fix

After reading about windows updates, I went in to check windows update. When I select WU all I see is some grey/blue dots going across the top of the screen. I tried the troubleshooter and windows reset for the update, but no changes. I contacted the windows community but instruction for submittine some logs was incorrect. One is attached.

Answer:Windows update will not load

Hi, try the following making sure each stage is clear or fixed before proceeding:

From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!

From an admin command prompt run
sfc /scannow

Download and install Tweaking.com's free cautious repair tool

When I launch the settings and go to Update, it loads forever instead of opening the options.

I have Googled to try to solve this issue but nothing has worked for me.

I've tried running this diagnostic: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/windows-update-issues/en-us
I've tried running these .bat files to reset Windows update: Windows Update - Reset - Windows 7 Help Forums

So far nothing has worked for me unfortunately. I am wondering if anyone here has any other ideas of what I could do to fix this problem?

For over a week, when I start my laptop, it seems to start normally, then I get a screen that says "updates could not load and changes are being undone, don't turn off my computer'.  Does anyone know what is going on?  I am using Windows 8.1.

I have Panda Security, and Anti Super Spyware, both paid for.  I just got rid of Win Patrol free, although I have used it on my old laptop without problems.  I have not purchased or downloaded any other programs.

Any ideas how I can find out what is going on?

Answer:Windows update won't load.

I'm just offering some advice. I'm not a Computer expert, just so you know

I had this issue on 2 different PCs, both with Windows 8.1.
It would force me into updates, and then say that the updates were unsuccessful and that it is undoing the changes.
It stayed in a restart loop of 'undoing changes' until I went into Safe Mode (using Shift + F8) and did a System Restore.
I have now changed the settings on BOTH computers to not automatically install update. I don't need that kind of trouble! LOL

This Toshiba computer had the Windows 7 Updated loaded onto it. Now when the computer starts up I receive the Safe Mode etc...options. I select Start Normally and from there is when it takes about an hour or more to load windows.

When the system finally loads, to click on anything takes about 10 minutes or more to populate anything.

A loading error message is received in the bottom right hand corner which says something about logging in as administrator and loading a disc.

This is my friends computer(previously mine) and I need to get to the pictures and save them in case I'm going to need to reset anything. If someone can tell me how to get at the pictures faster or fixing this without wiping out the pics that would be great. Much appreciated!! Tiff

Answer:Download Update for Windows 7, now comp takes about an hour to load windows

Right now I am in safe mode and it's seconds faster but not much and i did not receive that error in the bottom right corner.

I am constantly having redirects and new tabs spontaneously open to spammy websites in both IE and Firefox. I cannot get to Windows Update, it either says it can't connect or takes me to a fake search engine page. Windows is very slow to load at start, and after working for a little while, I tend to get Generic Host Process for Win32 Services errors, after which my machine locks up.

Malwarebytes has not found anything. AVG says it finds 6 infections and fixes 3. The infections are in svchost.exe, iexplorer.exe, and explorer.exe, where it says that a Trojan horse Agent_r.XJ Object was removed from each.

I do have access to my Windows XP Install disk.

Thanks so much for your help,

I recently installed Windows XP and all my programs on a new hard drive, as the old one would not boot. Last week I received a "Generic host process for Win32 services" error. My machine locked up, and I had to restart. Then I started having issues where Windows would not load or would take a very long time. I am able to start Windows in Safe Mode, but it takes much longer than it should.

Now sometimes when starting IE or Firefox or when surfing, new tabs are started on spammy webpages. Other times, IE or Firefox will not start. I also cannot go to the Windows Update site.

Neither Malwarebytes nor Avast find any instance of infection.

AVG says that it finds 6 infections and repairs 3. Just in case it would help, here is that part of the AVG log file:

Hello, I just rebuilt my PC and installed XP SP3, IE 8, and FF 3.6. Automatic updates are working (i.e. updates are downloaded and installed). However, I cannot get to the Windows Update webpage on this machine (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/). I've read forums that say this is due to a firewall issue, but I disabled my firewall and still cannot access the page. I have not setup any other special network rules/restrictions. I can access other webpages without problems. It could be a virus I suppose but I just rebuilt the system, so that makes me somewhat skeptical. Any thoughts? Thanks everyone!

I just upgraded to Windows Vista 64 over the weekend as a clean install. I ran Windows Update and got everything installed fine. However, shortly after Windows Update failed to open when I clicked the icon. I see a window start to open on the desktop and then disappear. No errors show up. If I go into the Control Panel->Security and click "Turn Automatic Updating On or Off" I receive the following error: Windows cannot find 'shell:::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-BEB064C98683}\10\::{36eef7db-88ad-4e81...\pageSettings'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having a problem with Windows Update. When I go to access the update site, it says done but with errors on page. Nothing shows up at all, just a blank screen. I have a feeling it has something to do with all the changes I had to make to get rid of lots of spyware/malware. If anyone could offer some thoughts and possible solutions, I'd really appreciate it. I haven't been able to update Windows in quite a while.

I'm running XP Pro. If any other information is needed, please let me know. Thanks to all who help in advance.

Is the Windows 8.1 disc 64 bit version?  Either bad disc, or wrong version for what you have, and what he burnt to the disc.  I have run into where I have had to turn off Secure boot in the UEFI bios.  It helps to know what the manufacturer & model# of your computer that you have.

My partner has a Dell Studio 1535 laptop. She just downloaded the latest Windows update. When she restarted the computer it took her to a black screen with a single line of white text indicating that various files were installing. It suddenly stopped at 430 of 49073 files with a message "!! 0xc0190036 !! 430/49073 (mfc42u.dll)" The computer is just hanging. If I power it off and restart it gives the option of a startup repair or to start normally. Starting normally leads to the hanging message; a startup repair fails to identify the issue, other than suggesting maybe a device has recently been attached. This is not the case.

Does anyone have any ideas?

If you have cleaned ALL malware, your current problems may not be malware related. The only way we can tell if you are clean is by having you run our full cleaning procedures given below.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThisMake sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

Answer:Windows update that fail to load

Try to restore your computer before the updates were downloaded using system restore. You can then download them again.

If you need more information on how to do a system restore just ask.

In windows 8, my brother tried to update to 8.1 but now computer seems it has 8.1 pro. But it can not load. Automatic repair, refresh, system restore, all of them gave errors. I dont want to reset.

I tried those commands from windows site

bootrec /fixmbr and other bootrec

and in config,

ren system syste.001 this worked but

ren software software.001

this gave errorprocess in use, can not be accessed.

How can i rescue? I dont have any rescue disc or etc.

I just got my new computer a few days ago and I've been downloading the usual drivers, updates etc. for it. The graphics card is GeForce 6800 GT, so I downloaded the latest driver (61.77) from www.nvidia.com. This worked perfectly until I found out there were further "updates" - and the stupidity of what I did should become apparent now - located here: http://3dchipset.com/drivers/beta/nvidia/nt5/index.php.

Following the flimsy advice that I found on another forum site, I went for the 62.20 download. I can't remember precisely when things went wrong after this, but I think the next two or three restarts were successful.

The current situation is: I switch on the computer - it gets as far as the screen where it says Windows did not start successfully. There is a 30 second timer counting down, and the options are:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Windows Normally

The first three options start a series of lines down the screen which read "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\Syste m32\DRIVERS\" and then after "DRIVERS" there will be a *.sys file, e.g. ACPI.sys. After the last line the computer freezes.

"Last Known Good Configuration" makes the screen go black and it stays like that. "Start Windows Normally" freezes the screen, including the timer, and it stays like that. The only options from here are the power on/off or reset bu... Read more

Answer:Can't load Windows after driver update

Well, if this is a result of your driver installation then you need to uninstall it. You can select Safe Modem W/Networking and uninstall the driver that way, after that everything should be okay. If not, since its a new install, I'd reformat and start over.

Cheers!

I have Windows Vista Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1 and the Windows update page will not load. No error messages it will not load. Any Microsoft help or support that leads to anything connected with Windows update will not load. I thought I was getting auto updates, but I am missing 8 important to critical updates. I have even tried downloading IE8 but it gets stuck on the Windows update.

What to do, what to do, what to do?

TIA

Answer:Windows update page will not load.

I was in your situation with Vista 32 for 3 months. First thing is to scan for malicious software/rootkits that may have turned off update. If you are confident that is not the cause, then you will need to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder in the Windows directory, something like SoftwareDistributionOld. You may have to first turnoff update in the Services (Administrative Tools) to do this. Reboot, and Update will recreate your SoftwareDistribution folder and you "may" then be able to update. Otherwise, like in my situation, you have a lot of heartache and google searching to do. I had to run a bits.reg routine to fix my bits (background Intelligent Transfer Services) in my registry; then I had to reregister a boatload of dll's. TurboTax 2008 had poorly installed and corrupted a number of files and registry entries.

Good luck.....

I recently reloaded xp on my computer to fix an error created by another piece of software. Since than I cannot get my system to accept security updates from Microsoft. The down load works, but I get an error that indicates none of the updates can be installed. I am currently missing 70 updates. I have tried to load one at a time in the event I did not reserve enough disk space, but I still get the same results. Do you have any ideas how this can be fixed.

Answer:Cannot load latest windows update

Try this website:

http://www.getautopatcher.com/

It allows you to download all the patches (about 300 MB) and install what you need. I have a security camera pc(vendor configured) that does not allow access to the windows update website and I used this tool to patch the system. Hope it helps solve your issue.

Hi All,

I was using my laptop last night (Dell Vostro 1710 and using Windows Vista), using only internet via firefox and the steam application, and had no problems prior to switching it off before I went to bed.

Got up this morning, switched on the computer and after loading past the 'Dell' logo it would not load any further.

I am pretty limited with my computer knowledge but have followed some online sites (mainly via Dell and Microsft) which have so far failed to help. I have carried out the following:

Start up Repair - says that the problem may not be fixed automatically and to contact either the computer manufacturer or system administrator. There is only 1 user on the computer so should be no administrator issues. I am currently in Thailand so support via Dell will be very limited or v. expensive (and from what I have read on-line they will recommend that the steps below are followed prior to doing a whole restore of factory settings).

I have attempted a System Restore of various points but receive the following message:
system restore failed due to an unspecified error. The requested operation was made in the context of a transaction that is no longer active

I see from the list of previous available system restore points that a windows update occurred sometime between me switching the computer off and turning it back on this morning. Surely this has to be the problem.

The option to repair OS(C) has also popped up. I have 'ok'd' this, then... Read more

I can not load windows new updater. Every time I try it just starts back at the start down load page all over again.

I also can't load DirectX 9.0b. It says that I have ver 8.1 . A little box that reads "Software Installation" on the top bar says. The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify it's compatibility with Windows XP.

This software will not be installed. Contact your system administor.

The next little box that pops up says.

"DirectX Setup" on the top blue bar and then below it says. DirectX did not copy a required file.
Any help I can get on this stuff would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,My first post here and I'm wondering if someone can help with my problem since I've completely run out of ideas...For the last few months I have been unable to load Windows Update, Windows Search, or the Personalize Desktop option when right clicking on the desktop. When I click on these items a window will open for a second (completely white) and then close instantly. There's seemingly no way around this and the same is true in Safe Mode.Suspecting a virus, trojan or similar I have run a number of scans (AVG, SpyBot, Ad Aware, Malware Bytes, Kaspersky, Norton, command line sfc, etc). Apart from a few tracking cookies nothing has been found. Running HijackThis also revealed nothing untoward.I've search the MS Knowledge base extensively and not found anything. There are similar problems regarding specific error numbers but I do not get one, just a window that opens then quickly closes. I have tried MS's own FixIt tool for Windows Update and it didn't make any difference.I can still search using the quick search bar in the start menu but clicking "search everywhere" does nothing. I can still change my desktop background by right clicking on an image and choosing "set as desktop background".I cannot run Windows Update. All of my other software is completely up to date.I still suspect that this is some sort of very clever trojan rather than an OS error but since I'm not getting any error messages I can't be sure.Any advice wou... Answer:Windows Update Window is not load properly

Hello dhammikammd123, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Looks like you have a custom skin that could be responsible.

You might see if running a sfc /scannow command, or doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened may be able to help.

Hope this helps,

I bought my HP notebook 15-ba004AX 4 months ago, and installed Windows 10 from my company. After couple of months of using and get Windows 10 update regularly, I noticed that Windows 10 won't start after installing specific update. Unfortunately I can't specifically point what update that made my windows failed to start. I try to recovered my windows using windows 10 repaired tool but it end up failed and I have to reinstall my windows 10 all over again. This problem occurred 3 times now, and it irritates me. And now power button on my notebook act weird, I need to push it twice before it can power up cause push it one only make notebook "on" four a few second. I really need a solution for my notebook. Is it hardware failed? Or Windows 10 update failed?

I have Power Suite on my computer and it said I had 6 outdated drivers which I updated. Now my Windows won't load. It gets to my desk top background, but can't even load the program icons. Then it starts the same process all over. I'm sure one of the updated drivers is the issue, but I can't get the computer to start in order to try System Restore. What can I do? I'm not very computer savvy, so go slow..

Thanks!

Answer:[SOLVED] windows won't load after driver update- xp

This is the reason it is best to get the driver from the manufacturer website. Most Driver Finder software will recommend incompatible drivers.

I see no beneficial reasons to using Power Suite software.

Boot the PC into Safe Mode. Once logged in run a System Restore

Restart the PC > repeatedly tap F8 during boot > at the Advanced Options choose Safe Mode

I did a windows update today, all went fine, but the next time I started up I got a message

"The system found unauthorized changes on the firmware, operating system or UEFI drivers"

Could get into BIOS and that was it. No changes made any difference. Drives detected fine. tried the windows disk to make repairs, and got the message it was not a compatible windows installation. Tried a google search and found the solution straightaway- seems its common.
There is a win update that causes the problem (thanks MS, great support there). To solve it, go to bios, advanced, find "secure boot" (varies on systems) and ser to "Other OS". Sounds weird but I tried and all was good again.

Putting this up as an assist for others- the worst part being that its a problem windows creates, and without knowing the fix, doubt it would get found.

All out of sudden my windows update feature stopped working properly. Whenever i try to search for updates it just keeps on searching for hours, without finding anything. If i try to troubleshoot the windows update feature, it stops at "searching on the internet". When i try to install standalone packages
(Windows6.1-KB3020369-x64) + (KB Windows6.1-KB3172605-x64) it also hangs up and searches forever. Please someone help, i feel like my computer needs some updates now soon. I see this have been updated, i dont know if it was before or after my windows update got broken. But it was atleast 5 days ago. If it is SP1 platform update then i did it myself, if it is not, i dont know. And i dont know if i did it myself --> Update for Windows (KB2670838)

I installed the latest Windows updates this morning and my laptop is now taking an age to load.  No messages about updates installing or anything like that.

Once it finally uploads, I'm looking at the old Desktop, and I can't get the Apps screen to show.  Nor do the Settings come up when I go to the bottom right-hand corner.

I am able to use most things I need by using the Desktop but it's obvious there's something not right!

Answer:Since latest update, Windows 8.1 features will not load.

This may seem overly simplistic, but have you tried restarting the computer?

If this doesn't resolve the issue, go to the Control Panel and click/tap on Programs and Features.

In the upper left portion of the window click on View installed updates.

These updates are dated, so you should have no problem finding the update/s that you installed last.

Post what the update/s are.

Edit:  If there were no integrity issues found in the scan a log may not be available.

Well... it didn't take long for me to have issues again. Why does this always happen to me?  Anyway...After I used CCleaner yesterday to clean up my Windows 10 computer which I do every week (I DID NOT use the Registry one) I started having issues. I couldn't get it to shut down so I had to force shut it down. When I started it up again I noticed that when I search for 'update' in the search box down next to the start button and I try to click on 'Check for updates' and 'Windows Update Settings' nothing happens. Nothing loads.I was able to get into Windows update through the regular Settings app though. This is disconcerting. As far as I know, I have no viruses and this was not occurring when I started the computer after I got home from work. I would prefer not to reset to factory settings either.I used CCleaner in a similar manner last week and this did not occur. From what I can tell, it is still checking for Windows Update and there are no other issues but this is still a disconcerting issue and I want it to work through the Search. If someone could help me fix this issue I would really appreciate it. Well windows was updating and i restarted because of an emergency and now the applications wont load. Explorer stops responding. Winamp opens after 10 minutes. Tried running sfc scan but it didn't help? What do i do?

Answer:Restarted during Windows update and now applications won't load

Ok now i decided to do a repair installation but every time i click on setup.exe it never starts and just keeps loading. Restarted in safe mode and the setup runs but it says that i cant do a repair install in safe mode. I then go to msconfig and do a selective startup. Setup starts but i get an error "Windows cannot determine the hard disk". So frustrating? Any way to do it?

After installing most recent critical update, my computer restarts and I get a balck screen with a little window that says "Setting up personalized settings Desktop Update" or something of the like (may have left a word out) and it never goes away. I can pull up task manager, end task, but explorer.exe also ends. If I then run task explorer.exe, the little window comes back.

I've system restored to before the update and I'm fine, then windows reinstalls the update and I have the same problem. UAC is off, i'm on admin account.

What do?

Answer:Windows Desktop won't load after most recent update

Use system restore and set update to not to do automatic. When the update comes just right click on it then, hide.

On 12/8, I updated Windows 10 on my laptop (a Dell Latitude E6510) and after an hour of the update running, the laptop restarted, "Attempting repairs" came up, and from then on none of the options to get back into Windows worked. Couldn't restore (it claimed I had no previous restore point) couldn't get into Safe Mode (what Win10 is calling Safe Mode, anyway), and when I removed the SATA drive to connect it to my desktop computer as an external to make sure I had all my personal files, Windows read the drive as G: Reserved Space and H: Empty. When I tried to open the "empty" H: drive, it said it needed to be formatted. I'm not falling for that.Basically I need to recover five files out of the Desktop folder. I know they have to be there, I'm just about ten years out of the loop with data recovery. :)

I did an update from Lenovo which included video drivers, BIOS, and other stuff. Now my computer won't start. I get a BSOD and then the computer loops into the Automatic Repair menu (Windows 8.1). I did a System Restore Point and even though the OS said the recovery was successful, it still won't boot up correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Did Lenovo update, Windows 8.1 won't load. BSOD

Are you able to boot into Safe Mode? Does the BSOD name a driver file?

During the final stage of a windows update my com. shut off. Now I get the motherboard start up screen, with the option to access the BIOS, then it says "Loading Operating System" then it loops back to the bios screen again. I went into the BIOS selected to boot from DVD, and when it asks to Boot from CD to press any key...I do,and it still loops back to the BIOS screen!!! I can't break the cycle.

Answer:Shutdown during win 7 update...windows wont load

Hi,Kindly follow the below mentioned steps in order:1.Confirm Hard Drive is recognized in BIOS. If yes, follow next step. If NO, load BIOS defaults.2.Boot to Safe mode and perform system restore. System Restore will affect Windows system files, programs, and registry settings only. If system restore fails or unable to access safe mode, follow next step. 3.Run Start Up repair from the URL mentioned: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/...4.If the issue still persists, then try running the Hardware Diagnostics. If you get any error code, make a note of the error code. Thanks & RegardsDebbie B#iworkfordell

you've probably heard this before but everywhere I look forums only tell of how to fix or temporarily fix it. What caused this problem in the first place? also, I keep hearing about this thing called windows blinds but everytime I type it in on google it just shows actual window blinds for houses in the results.

I think my pc may have registry problems. If i fix those with the right software will everything be normal again? sometimes when I play my games it also just shuts down unexpectedly telling me a prob caused it to close.

Don't mean to sound like a noob for this stuff but it kind of bugs me how you have to do so much research and be a tech genius in order to use windows right. I mainly want to know about this stuff because I play crysis alot and it has taught me to fix and reconfigure things on my pc in order for it to run better and I'm happy about that but I don't really want to be a techie or pc enthusiast and have to go to computer school for 4 years just so I can run my game perfectly! its driving me nuts. so any help on what I can do to solve this? know its my fault for downloading freeware and things like that when I wasnt as knowledgeble but after this gets resolved I think I know enough about pc's now to prevent any future problems. thanks guys.

I'm working on my mom's computer remotely via LogMeIn (Home Premium SP2). A persistent problem is an inability to update the system due to the Windows Update giving me a "The page failed to load" error. This happens after I click on the "15 optional updates are available" hyperlink in the Windows Update pane. There are no critical updates.

An initial Google search returned the most common cause as being "WindowBlinds" by Stardock. This program, however, is not installed on her computer (verified by a search of programs in the "All Programs" links, "Program Files" folder, "Uninstall or change a program", and a search for "stardock" in the registry.

"sfc /scannow" in administrative mode on the command line failed to return any errors.

I also went to Microsoft's relevant Knowledge Base article here and attempted to use the Fix It program to fix Windows Update. The program successfully ran and fixed the files that were damaged (whatever they happened to be), but this did not solve the issue.

Finally, I removed threats using SUPERAntiSpyware, reregistered some .dll files as recommended by Microsoft (IMPORTANT NOTE: Some of them failed), and restarted with non-essential services disabled and startup items disabled.

Hi,
I'm having a major issue with my PC since installing the last Windows update yesterday (1703, Creators Update). As soon as the update installed, my PC restart and loaded into Windows with no problems. I then turned my PC off for the night. When I went to load up the PC this morning, you can see exactly what happens in the short video I uploaded to Youtube (click here It just gets to the ASUS screen, and basically stays there forever. I left it on for 3 hours earlier, and it was still at the same screen when I came back.
I can move the mouse and the keyboard is responsive though. When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL, the mouse even does that little loading icon, so I know something is going on behind the stuck loading screen. It's like Windows has loaded properly in the background, but the loading screen won't go away for some reason.
I'd massively appreciate some help with this, thank you!

I have windows 7 running on a HP Pavilion dm4 laptop.  Lately windows is very slow to start -close to 5 minutes just to get to the log in screen.  Also, the updates will not install.  I am getting various error messages and when I try to look them up I get general information.

I have done a disk cleanup, defragged and removed some unneeded programs.  I am going to do the Security Tango also.

What should I try next?

Ok so i decided i would update my BIOS as i saw there was a new BIOS available at the dell website

I have a Inspiron 1100 2.2Cel, 512 Ram, 30GIG
I had a A29 BIOS and was updating to A30, So i downloaded and started the BIOS update it starts installing and has to restart as it restarts all is fine till it gets to the windows splash screen and it comes up with a certain boot file is missing in system32 ( I didn't get chance to see the specifics as i wasn't expecting a problem) and then straight away it restarts so the BIOS didnt finish installing and from then on it simply just keeps restarting at the splash screen

So i thought i would try Safe mode but the same problem, I then try putting my XP cd in and repairing the windows but still no luck so then i went and instaled a second XP which is now working fine, which relieved a bit as the Computer parse is working just not the original Windows

I now have access to the other windows install to be able to put the missing files in, But my main concern is getting "My Documents" as i have a lot of college stuff which isn't backed up on my USB drive, And when i go to get access it comes up with access denied because it's private

I have tried This
still didnt help

Tried copying some system32 files from the fresh install to the old see if the file might missing might have been added but still no luck

I did a virus scan and the scanner was able to scan the files in the "My Docume... Read more

From googling the error message, I suspect that it has something to do with my video driver but I'm not certain.

I purchased a refurbished Dell e6410 about a year ago.   The Laptop was working find with no issues.   But in mid August, I did a windows 7 update...   After the update, windows restarted...   But instead of booting up to windows...  It went to "startup repair".   It ran this several times until is said it could not repair the startup.
I ended up having to do a recovery and reload windows and re-image my HD...   After doing that, I tried windows update again.   Same issue.   after windows update...   It would just got to startup repair.
Again, I had to restore my OS and re-image my drive.   I tested and checked the HD and go no errors.  Ran disk check and disk check /r...   But if I tried to run a windows update it would just go into startup repair and I would eventually have to just reload my os and re-image the drive.
I spoke to an agent from Dell about it...   He suggested I wait a month before trying to do the windows update.   Perhaps they have a bug.
So I waited two months and tried an update again, last night.   This time, I would get the dell logo, with f12 option, that would go away and then "windows is loading necessary files", but then the screen would go black and dell screen came up gain, then "windows is loading necessary files".   I let it do this for almost an hour.   Windows never started...   I had no option to get ... I have a problem loading many things such as windows update, the windows search(the search within windows) and some other things. I think it may be active x or something, but it is enabled in IE so I'm not sure what the problem is.

This is a fairly old computer. I just recently had a problem with Windows Activiation, but I've had it for years. The window would not load for activation so I ended up using a crack. I ran virus scans with AVG and the such and cleaned up the computer.

Answer:Can't load windows update, windows search, and other things

Updates are probably being an issue due to the crack - if that's the case, we're unable to support you.

If you copy is legal, all you have to do is contact Microsoft for valid key :-)

System:HP Pavilion DV7-1135nrWindows Vista Home Premium SP2 (64 bit) Problem:I was having problems with the Wifi not working, which is common with this system according to other threads.  One of the forums suggested updating the BIOS.  The original version was F.48.  I located and downloaded the latest version, F.49, from the HP help page, which is an EXE file.  I ran this,  The Wifi button changed from orange to blue and was working.  When done with the laptop, the lid was closed, which put the computer into sleep mode.  The next morning, the lid was opened and the computer was working as normal, however, the Wifi button was orange and would not go back to blue.  After walking away from the laptop and coming back, I received a DOS screen stating:  Windows Boot Manager Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.  To fix the problem:1.  Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.2.  Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."3.  Click "Repair your computer." If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or copmuter manufacturer for assistance. File:  \Windows\system32\winload.exe Status:  0xc0000225 Info:  The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt. Steps Taken:I tried using a friend's Vista Home Premium SP2 CD.  It does boot i... Recently I discovered that windows update on my computer doesn't work anymore. When I tried to access Windows Update page , all I got is: "This webpage is not available." in google chrome. In Internet Explorer when I try the windows update link, the browser keeps closing and restarting with no success. If trying to google about this problem concerning windows update issues I also get the browser closing and restarting. Also no succes in Mozzila Firefox nor in Apple Safari. I tried all browsers with no success: windows update page is not working ( Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage), neither is it possible to update form Windows, I just can't get updates to work no matter I do.

When I tried to run Combofix to see the results, the computer freezes and I need to shutdown and restart.
I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and I didn't get any objects infected.
What advice can you give me?
Thanks in advance.

PS: also on this page in this post when I tried to paste the windows update adress(link) I could not post, I get "This webpage is not available." in chrome.
In Safari: Safari can’t open the page “http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?”. The error is: “unknown error” (kCFErrorDomainWinSock:10052)
And it is only because I pasted the adress of windows update site I could not post it no matter what browser I use.

Answer:Windows Update page doesn't load in any browser

Hello, last week my computer got infected with the AntivirusAntispyware2011 malware. I have since used Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to remove it- but my computer is still acting buggy with random ad pop-ups, window's update won't load at all, svchost.exe periodically running loads of memory, and none of my processes starting when the computer reboots. I installed a new version of Norton Internet Security 2011 yesterday, which found a number of viruses, and according to my security history, is currently blocking attacks continually. I think there has to be something still on my computer, possibly in the system restore folder, that keeps coming back. PLEASE help! As a start, I'm including the logs from Malwarebytes, and the key one from norton. UPDATE:

After i did those two scans, nothing change but suddenly appears a big purple screen to update for windows 8.1 Pro and i've accepted it, after updated, my graphic card driver don't recognize and looks like it can only be updated for WINDOWS 8.1 via WINDOWS UPDATE that now we're back to the same problem as before: windows update won't update nothing...(probably because of this infection?)

UPDATE 2:

Graphics card driver already installed sucessfully after a quick search how to do it (manually w/ device manager) for WINDOWS 8.1 for my 4800 radeon

also this message always appears when i was trying to acess some sites, and today again when i openned this game "League of Legends" tho

Thanks

When using windows update I am given the choice to download an updated driver for my Brother HL-5040 printer. (Driver Version No. 01.60.00.00.)The download has been carried out several times but the instalation fails and I get the following message in the update log.Error IUENGINE Installing Printer Driver Brother HL-5040 Series (Error 0x800703E5: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.)See iuhist.xml for details: Install finished (Error 0x800703E5: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.)My printer has always worked well and doesn't seem to have been affected by this.I can't find the location of the current driver and don't know how to check which version I currently have. Can anyone tel me what the error is and how I can fix it/install the new driver.

Answer:Windows XP Printer Driver Update failure to load

You'd be better going to the Brother website rather than rely on the Windows Update Site click here If the printer works OK though why bother? They apparently posted a nVidia Graphics driver as a critical update. Great if you don't have an appropriate nVidia card.

Laptop Medion MD40734 Same as FID2060 From ToysRUs & Aldi. Made about last 2 to 3 years I know off. This is a common problem when trying to upgrade XP with SP2. SP2 will load but then Windows XP will hang after restarting computer.
I have noted 5 people in UK and others outside UK with exact same problem.

MS SP2 Help at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm
They suggest removing SP2 then fix from MS help as follows http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b99c199-5d75-454f-ae07-b620727be8d8 then load SP2 again. When it fails again with same problem they suggest new BIOS. Medion new BIOS at http://www.medion.co.uk/ using AGP Interface Driver FID 2060
and use instructions given. If your drive is NFTS with only one partition (or not original format) you will have to disregard their instructions and copy file to a floppy or CD and run from there.
IT WILL NOT MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR BIOS even though it has it on screen when file open.

I strongly advise you do not use this BIOS update as it will probably cause lockup on loading on POST.

I saw somewhere you can load BIOS through DOS making a backup of BIOS as you load new updated BIOS. Not sure that if even if you did that you could reload old BIOS if all goes wrong.

Suggest forget SP2 until Medion get this sorted. You may end up needing new Motherboard.
I have tried all this and still have the problem. Can actually access Windows XP by using Medion Application and support CD so all is not ... Read more

Hello

My PC failed, just like last Sunday. I left open the PC, when I come back, a bl;ack screen with the message that Windows to load, maybe caused by a software update

Instal the Window repair disk and reload....

Since , I was not in front of the PC, I can't know what could cause that.

Edit: I review the events observer. I see an error
"Kernel Power" 41
Question:
How could I know the kind of problem that cause WIndows to fail

Anyway to read the chain of events that lead to the problem

Is there a way to find witch software, if there is one, that had tried to execute an update?

Any help trully appreciated

Martin

Answer:Windows fail to load after update?? ( same problem occured last Sunday

Usually that indicates a power supply issue. It most likely is not windows, and your power supply is failing.

I have been experiencing some issues with vista. For some reason I can't seem to load my personal settings (by right clicking on desktop\personal settings), my properties (from "my computer") or loading the windows update. When I try to do so the screen loads for a fraction of a second and then closes again. No error message or anything is displayed. It just closes... I've tried to enter through the control panel, but with the same result. My computer seems to run fine and haven't been experiencing any virus issues or anything else that could indicate an infection.
Does anyone have any idea what this is caused by?

Hi

Forgive me I am not very computer literate.

Since my windows update 10/7/2014 0315 my computer doesn't work.

Tried:

1. Running explorer from Task manager > new task > explorer.exe

2. tried system restore to 8 July 2014

I am getting reconciled to having to reinstall Windows 7 but reluctant as:

1. acer do not provide a windows 7 disk and not sure how to reinstall from the laptop's own memory

2. When I first got the acer I burned 6-7 dvds with a system restore so I could use that but do not want to lose all my data

3. Really not sure what I am doing lol

4. really don't want lose my data and I have no means to back up the 540gb of data I reluctant to lose it all.

Please help.....Assume I am a real noob.

p.s. a message window just popped up saying "explorer.exe system call failed"

Answer:Windows update 10 July 2014 - Background/Icons load but nothing more

Got it working badly and extra slow with a system restore and I had to reboot and flipping Microsoft updated again landing me again at the beginning again!!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Been trying to update XP SP2 with the .NET Framework security update V1.1 SP1 (KB886903), but every time I try I receive the following error:

==============
Unable to load JIT compiler (MSCORJIT.DLL). File may be missing or corrupt. Please check your setup or rerun setup!

Error Code: 0xC0000005
Try to install the update again, or request help from one of the following resources.
==============

The only fairly helpful resource I've found tells me that the "Unable to load JIT compiler" error is caused by a timeout error on a system with a heavy load. I've had this error numerous times and checked my system load and it's never been high at all.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

-z

Answer:Windows Update Error - unable to load JIT compiler (MSCORJIT.DLL)

reduce the load on the machine by closing applications before re-running setup.
