Preferred Solution: mother is getting 403 error when trying to open any internet site

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: mother is getting 403 error when trying to open any internet site

Hello Nyeh,

This is what I suggest you do first.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot, Ad-aware and HijackThis. All are free and available bellow.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Before restart, Empty Recycle Bin.

Restart your computer.

Delete the HijackThis you have now. It needs updated.

Download HijackThis from link in my signature. Save it to a permanent folder (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT). Open and hit scan, then save log. Once it is saved it will open in notepad. Select all from the edit button, copy and paste the results here. Don't fix anything with it yet! Someone experienced with the logs will advise you.

Receive the following error message using Explorer 7 & vista premium 32-bit.....
...."internet explorer can't open internet site.....operation aborted..."

The internet is loaded with fixes but I have yet to find one that works. Seems to be fairly common,
as well as something that just started a few months ago with all my pcs regardless of operating system.
Usually associated with both explorer 7 & 8. Does not occur on all pages, so the problem is intermitant
and according to page content.

Any help would be appreciated- thank you!

I have tried most of the posts on the internet to fix this problem--this is under IE6--"Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later." The problem just suddenly appeared. I'm running a Dell Inspiron B130 laptop with Win XP Home, Service Pack 3 installed, 1 gb ram and a 40 gb HDD. Had McAffee Internet Security Suite preinstalled but removed it via REVO Uninstaller and have only Windows firewall enabled and NO anti-virus. I did try downloading with Windows firewall disbaled and still no success. I can navigate to a site like Google Chrome download page but then when I click on the download button, the error message appears. Also can't download Microsoft or Windows updates from either site, although, again, I can get through the "checking" phase. I've run Malwarebytes, A-Squared, and IObit 360 and removed about 13 traces of malware ranging from low risk to high risk, defragged and cleaned the reg, all to no avail. I originally had IE7 installed, read about rolling back to IE6 and doing the typical repair sequences, again to no avail. Supposedly IE8 fixes this, but I can't download it, although I did try the stand-alone installer of 15 MB without checking the "get updates" box. It loaded and installed and shows up as IE8 but still had the same problems. Then did a system restore back to before the IE8 install, rolled back to IE6 again... Read more

Windows Xp Home SP2

My IE6 was not able to download files from the internet, I cleaned my system from viruses, trojans, worms and other stuff as well as I could (Spybot, Hijackthis, Adaware, Microsoft Defender, Avast!) All these software I had to download them to the computer in my job because my Home Computer does not download them.
I always get this message

"Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. please try again later"

However, those programs that needed to update themselves at installation were able to download thier own updates. As I was runing those antiviruses, I was experimenting downloading stuff like IE7 and WMP11 which I downloaded to my job and took home and installed them. Now they are up and runing but IE7 is not downloading anything anyways. Other problem is that there is no web history.

Does anybody have any idea of what is going on?

Re: "Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is

Welcome to MG.

My immediate reaction would be that a firewall is blocking access. If you have a firewall turned on, try accessing a site with the firewall turned off to see if it is that causing the problem.

I hope I'm on the right thread as I think this is security related but I'm not experienced enough to know.
I tried to put a screen shot here but it failed.
Anyway, this gets confusing to me.

Going to a website the site does open but as soon as it does, a dialog box appears on top of it that says;
Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site. Operation Aborted.
But the site is right there in full view. So, when I close the dialog box, the website also closes.
I thought the website was under attack by a denial of service thing. ??
So I went to another site and it opened with no problem BUT, when I clicked onto a link from within that other site, once again I got the dialog box opening saying Operation Aborted.
All that makes me now think it's my computer under some kind of attack but I haven't a clue from where.
I have AV running (NOD32 from eset) I have run scans for AV and syyware. I have aSquared running anti-spy in background. I use Spybot S&D and Spyware Blaster.
Have also used Windows own Live One Care to run an AV scan.
None of the above find anything wrong on my pc.

as a sidenote. pc is very sluggish and takes forever to open many web pages and I have not been able to open Wiredness at all since late last night. But since some pages open properly I put it down to possible problems with Wiredness site.

Hope I ccan get some help. Thank You Kindly.

I'm getting this strange message on my website. Both on the main site at: click here and on the message board at: click here? The sites load perfectly using FireFox, Opera and Safari but not Internet Explorer 7.The problem is also present on my laptop. All other sites work perfectly well in IE, just not mine.I'm thinking it could be a server problem - Streamline. Just for peace of mind could someone confirm my thoughts please. If it is a Streamline problem then there's nothing on their site about it and it wouldn't get fixed until Monday anyway.

Answer:Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site

Hi, perkinshershel, and welcome to the forums.
Have you performed any sort of autotuning disabling on your machine, or else 'tweaked' the TCP/IP settings?

FWIW, Vista doesn't do well with tweaked TCP/IP settings like XP does - it has an autotuning feature that dynamically changes the values for various settings n the TCP/IP stack as needed, thereby making the need for tweaked TCP/IP settings a thing of the past.

Just started using IE8, and getting the nag on many pages (while I am already on that page) saying IE cannot open this internet site....and if hit the return arrow to go back a page , and then reclick to the new page, it works. Whats up with that ? Am I missing some file or is this just another glitch ?
Didn't happen with IE7, and may just go back to it.

Answer:internet explorer cannot open the internet site...

Did you try other sites ? That is a quick check to see if the problem is your browser. And it would need to be a site that uses similar setup. So if the page that doesn;'t display has lots of javascript, go to another one that has lots of javascript, etc.

On one of my sites, sometimes one particular page wouldn't display. I had to re-edit it, upload, it works fine now. So it may not be your browser. It could be that site.

The full message reads "Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later".This error message comes up when I try to download anything from a website, or from hotmail or even from a Windows Live Skydrive folder. I can open files if that options shows, but not save them. My machine is running Vista Home, and it has just updated to SP1 with IE7 - it's a new laptop. All the internet settings are identical to those on my WinXP PC, which has no problems downloading the identical items. In some instances when trying to download from websites IE doesn't put out the message but closes itself down and then reboots itself. Any expert ideas would be appreciated.

I know I have a virus again Or have NOT fully rid myself of one I thought I had eliminated weeks ago. I noticed that I was having trouble accessing some web sites when I was logged on as ME. It appeared to be shut me out alphbetically. As I could not access and then I AM able to function if I log on as the administrator but I am worried that this thing will disable this "side" as well. A friend suggested that something has wormed itself into my Registry... I am not savvy enough to know what to do about that. He said to run The Non Pro version of Glary Utilities or The Online Safety Scanner. I am did run Glary and it found 506 errors but one has to BUY their product to completely rid myself of the errors. ALSO I have Secunia installed and it continues to warn me that I have programs that are insecure or at end-of life, but when I click on "Solution", it will not connect so I do not know what to do to correct the problems. .... so here I am again. HELP! PLEASE!

Hope someone can help. I've got an old Windows 98 SE with IE6. VERY SLOW. Trying to download fixes, Firefox, whatever, same message everytime in the Microsoft IE dialog pop up, ie. (Internet Explorer cannot download Firefox Setup 3.0.4.exe from Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.)

This is on ANY site I try to download from with the exception of Windows updates. I wanted to try uninstalling IE6 and reinstalling, or trying Firefox to see if that helps. I also can't view any "players" on websites, like youtube player. They are just blank on the screen.

I did try the IE6 repair from the Add/remove area. That would have been way too easy. No good. Any suggestions what else I can try. Hard to fix somethig when you can't download any fixes!

thanks so much.

Answer:IE6 error "not able to open this site"...when trying to download

Download them onto another computer and put them on CD.
Try installing them that way.

First thing I would try with Windows 98 is SuperAntiSpyware.

Download it and install it. When it asks to do the updates dont
Do the full scan. It could take several hours then reboot.
That is at least the first pass.

Answer:internet explorer cant open a site, aborts opertaion!

You may want to try checking and making sure your privacy and security settings aren't set too high. To do this, go to tools>internet options>privacy tab then make sure it isn't set any higher than medium, in fact you might want to drag the slider all the way down just to test it, then over to security and do the same thing. Then click on restricted sites, then the sites button and make sure it's not in the list. After you've done this, check to see if it works. If it still doesn't I'd recommend going back to the general tab and click delete under browsing history, then delete files, delete cookies, and delete history. After that, get back to internet options and click on the content tab, then click clear ssl state and restart internet explorer afterwards. If this doesn't work, post back again with exactly what version of internet explorer you're using and word for word what the error says.

I used FireFox2 & IE6 before, then I got this popup:I installed FireFox3, run the CCleaner, got around 400 registry errors or something, fix everything & it's finebut after around 12-18 hours, the popup comes again, I checked CCleaner, got another 100 registry errors (some looks the same with the previous errors)Also when I use FireFox3, when I open a new tab then go to a site, sometimes it's just doesn't connect to the site, specially when I open a new tab, trying to open a new website, go to other tab, then that "new website" just don't reload, some website that I often has this problem is &, then there's also a site when I send a private message, whenever I press the "send button", it's just like reloading & it doesn't give me a sign that the message have successfully sent, although when I open the inbox/outbox, it's actually been sent, I think most page that have a submit button for some reason doesn't work as it used to beactually, this is a good example:The one that's loading is actually this post, then I just try to open the main forum (HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal) to check whether my post already been sent or not, & actually it is, but it's just keep loadingsometimes my internet went down by itself & went up again after a couple of minutes, no idea why, never been like this before, just recentlyAny idea why?ThanksDeckard's System Scanner v20071014.68Run by Cmon on 2008-06-25 19:12:30Comput... Hello,If anyone can help me, please. I have been able to access a site for over a year, then suddenly last week their server went down for two days, when it came back up, however, I was not able to access this one site at all. The error message: "" is taking too long to respond." I am on Firefox. However, others using other software can access that site easily now.Tried to download a new browser, IE7, but that just gives me another error message??? error: '/root/Desktop/IE7Setup_G.exe' is not available or fully up to date...???please help and thanks...

Answer:One site won't open; error: server is taking too long to respond? Firefox

The problem may be the Internet and you local service provider. Some days things just do not work right. But, just to be sure, notice if there seems to be a lot of traffic on your modem or outer even when yum are not doing anything. That could indicate that your system is being used by some background service. Which would be OK if you hd started it. Not OK if you have no idea what it is.

I am getting a recurring problem when opening Internet Sites.

Having opened the Internet Site , I get an error message saying "Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet Site <<followed by its name>>. Operation aborted."

The screen then reverts to one with a big "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message on it.

By clicking the 'Back-arrow' towards the top of the screen , the required website is opened with no further problems !

Any thoughts on this annoying little quirk ??

Dear Friend,
I am Anil from India. I have recently joined the forum after struggling for a week to stablise my unstable PC. I used to have some Anti Virus software on my pc before few years. But since last few years I was not having any AV software as this PC was not being used for surfing etc.
Since I started to use it again for surfing, downloading etc., I wanted to instal avast AV software. I installed it from some recent installer file with me. But when it tried to update the virus database, I got the message that "can't connect to server". Then I tried to open But I again got the error message "The page cannot be displayed". Then I uninstalled the avast and tried to open other antivirus sites like norton, mcafee, avg etc., but all failed.
Then I tried to update my system using automatoc update utility. But again failed. also failed to open.
I use GPRS connection through cellular connection to browse the network.
Now I have downloaded and installed Hijack This.

I may not have this under the correct section and please keep in mind that I am not a programmer but here goes.

I am trying to add a hyperlink in Outlook 2007 signature file that will open a child site, but the child site seems to need some personalized information in the cache that comes from opening a parent site first:

Parent site:
Child Site:

When the child site is opened directly (without opening parent first) it loads forever. The parent site does not require any authenication it just has to be opened first and then the child site operates correctly.

Is there a simple way to have one hyperlink either a) open two sites one after the other in the same window? or b) open the childsite with a parent site dependancy (tag?, bookmark?) on the hyperlink?

I have been on google searching all afternoon and haven't had any luck yet so any help is appreciated.

Thank you

It keeps coming up with an error webpage problem with the site. But when i use Mozilla i can login back to Netflix. Is there any reason why when my computer crashed i am unable to use IE to get onto Netflix? When i ask for info from the webpage error it just says after two tries IE has found an error and is preventing the webpage looping. Is there anyway i can overcome this problem.

Phoenix, When one website suddenly starts playing up then deleting IE's "Temporary Internet Files" can frequently help:
Close IE, go to Control Panel -> Internet Options -> "General" tab -> "Delete" button -> untick everything apart from "Temporary Internet files" -> "Delete" button. When it's finished, open IE again and try Netflix again.

I think my Mother's computer is using XP. Almost nothing opens up after you click it. I can't even open the about dialog box to find out which operating system she has, but I think it is XP Home.

She says all she wants is email, but she does click on links and goes to websites, she just thinks it part of the email.

I got the email opened for her, but I couldn't open Internet Explorer to search for a solution.

But, now I do have Internet Explorer open, but I can't open Outlook.

When you click the desktop email it makes a sound like something is wrong and nothing opens up.

When you click on the Start button and then click on a program nothing opens up.

She has a keyboard with a button for her email and one for the web, but when you press it, it makes that noise and nothing opens.

Answer:Can't Open Programs On My Mother's Computer

Never mind.

My sister came over and said her husband said to try turning it off.

I did, and now it seems to be working again.

Thanks anyway, sorry to bother you.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg. I have multiple users getting similar errors in 3 different browsers (IE, Firefox, Safari) and 2 versions of IE (6 and 7) when they try to open gmail.

All of the users on our network (except me) can no longer load gmail.
They get his message:

Internet Explorer cannot display the web page.
[with some other nonsense about connection problems]

Here is a list of symptoms:
- it is not a firewall message, it is coming from the browser

- there is no entry in the firewall log that the request even got
that far to be denied by the firewall for some reason

- only happens with gmail, they can open other pages and the CFS works
where appropriate (i.e. we can't figure out how to build bombs)

- happens in multiple browsers, I've tried IE6, IE7, Firefox, and
Safari (the error message has different words because it comes from
the browser being used but essentially means the same thing as the IE
error), the Firefox and Safari installs were done after the problem
started for troubleshooting purposes

- happens on both wired and wireless network access PCs and Macs

- happens on Win98, XP Pro, XP Home, Vista, and Mac OS X 10.4.x

- I've tried alternate gmail addresses including, and clicking their gmail link, and
mail/?ui=1 all with the same result

- I rebooted our cable modem with no change

- I turned the CFS off and it still didn't ... Read more

Hey all. I'm on my moms computer right now, trying to help her figure out whats going on with her internet. Internet Explorer has recently stopped working for no reason. I uninstalled and reinstalled, I updated, I went back two versions. She has a wireless connection, but its signal strength is at 100%. A perfect connection. Firefox works, I installed that for her and she hates it with a passion. But Internet Explorer doesn't work at all.

Anyone got any ideas as to what could be the problem? I have a HiJackThis log - she bitched at me about installing something called 'HiJackThis' but I told her let me handle it ):<

Keep in mind that my comp specs are not the same on this computer. I don't even know what shes using. I think its a stock HP Pavilion a131 On.

I tried to get rid of some malware on my computer running XP and afterwards, I can't connect to the Internet. I can ping Google ok and the home network connects to the three computer I have, all of which can connect ok to the Internet except mine.

My Eudora cites an error "Error getting a network socket". Sam Spade pings Google ok but the IP Block check returns "Failed to Open Socket"

The malware was "Downloader" which I think I got rid of with SDFix. But there remains a file in Windows\System32 called MMCHOST.dll that SDFix could not delete. I wonder if it's part of Downloader and is the cause of the Internet connection problem?

I also disconnected XP's firewall but that had no effect. I run Norton AV and before SDFix it showed a notice that I had Downloader which it couldn't fix but after SDFix, that notice no longer comes up.

Any idea anyone?

Hi, could someone help a damsel in distress?   I use a Packard Bell desktop PC with Windows XP home, IE 7.0 I use the free version of AVG and have done a whole computer scan recently which showed no problems.  I am not a complete computer novice but please be gentle and explain technical things slowly  (1)  Quite often my CPU usage goes to 100% and pages are very slow to load, particularly on Ebay, its like going back to the old dial up days.  The fan comes on and I go and make a cup of tea while the page loads.(2)  For a few weeks now I am getting red crosses where there used to be graphics or icons such as on Youtube login above the word "username" is a box with a red cross and above the words "sign in with your Google account". On Yahoo answers avatars page, there are no pictures visible on the avatar page, there used to be, now there are just red crosses.  If I right click to "show picture" nothing happens?  I have no icons on Ebay to indicate if people have paid or left feedback, just red crosses, its driving me mad.(3) I get a frequent error message in a box "Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site  Operation aborted"  When I click on OK I get taken to page "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage most likely causes not connected ........  Diagnose connnection problems .... etc etc "   However this page has red cr... Hi everyone,
I am using windows 7 ultimate x64 on my hp laptop. Since a month, I cannot open wmplayer. if i go to mp3 song and hit play. it tell me server execution error. Also, I cannot start 32 bit or regular internet explorer. I can open x64 internet explorer. I already try to install and uninstall wmp by using control panel .but, it is not working. Please help me out here. I am getting frustrated.

Answer:Cannot open WMP and internet explorer. server execution error.

I would suggest opening the command prompt as administrator by right-clicking on Command Prompt and then clicking Run as Administrator (Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Command Prompt) and in there typing (without quotes) "sfc /scannow" and let Windows check if there are any corrupt files and fix them. After this has completed, restart your computer and see if the error persists.

Working with my mother's HP Pavilion G series laptop running Win 7. This morning I was on the internet and the website I was on (Facebook) stopped responding. I then tried to end my internet session and the screen froze. Performed control-alt-delete to restart, and when it did, I was unable to access any programs or internet. I've been working on it all day. Even tried rebooting in safe mode, but that freezes now. A cold restart gets me back to the normal startup, but the program icons come up slow and when I move the cursor over the taskbar, it starts cycling for an indeterminate time.

Any help here? Got plenty of ram, and hd space. This is the first time I've experienced this problem.

I've spent hours on multiple trying to find a solution to this problem.

I'm running Win7 (upgraded from Vista) on a laptop. After my upgrade (I think), I stopped being able to run programs or open data files on my CD/DVD drive. There's no problem navigating a directory tree. There's no problem playing audio CDs or video DVDs. I can even burn DVDs (and read those files back).

The problem is that EVERY CD from commercial sources (driver installation CD, CD with magazine, etc) files to run. I also cannot copy the files from the CD to my hard drive and run from there. What I have to do is bring up another machine and copy the files across my network so I can use the files on my main system.

The error that is reported by the system is: "Windows Security" "These files can't be opened" "Your Internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened." and the file named is something like F:\Windows 7\setup.exe (where F: is my optical drive).

I have been into the security settings for the drive and allowed everything to everyone with no success. (I'm the only user of this computer.)

I have turned off protection in UAC with no success.

I have turned off my anti-virus (Avast) with no success.

One other piece of information. I booted my system in safe mode and the CDs worked just fine.

So it would seem that there's something in the software beyond safe mode that's making my drive pretty unusable.

I'd really appreciate any insights. ... Read more

Answer:I can't open a particular site

Does this happen on more than this site? There's not much showing in this log...let's have you run some general tools.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to Start>Run and type cleanmgr then press enter. This starts Windows DiskCleanup. Choose C drive click OK. Make sure Temporary Internet Files, Recycle Bin and Temporary Files are selected, click OK.

Can you now visit the site?

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running. Ad-Aware? SE Personal Edition
*Note* For Ad-AwareSE also install the VX2 Addon Cleaner To run this tool once Adaware is updated click on Add-ons in the lefthand column. Select VX2 Cleaner V2.0 and click Run Tool. Click "OK" , then, if something is found, click "Clean" as in the directions given. Click "Close", and exit Ad-Aware.

I am connected to Internet via LAN. Since last month I can't open one site. At first I've contacted their administration- they confirmed my IP is not banned.
My LAN company gets traffic from two providers: using first I can't open the page, using second - site is always opened. Nobody using first internet's provider can't open this site, but in the other house there is the same provider (first) and everything works fine, which means internet provider also doesn't block this site.
Now the only one conclusion is: the problem is in my LAN. Its admin says he has no idea what's happened.
Tracing from 8 line gets stars and time outs. 7 line shows non opened site's hosting company.
Any ideas would be welcome.

Answer:my mac won't open this site.

My girlfriend has the same issues:It seems to be something wrong with the schools webserver-more specific: the SSL protocol negotiation process (the means by which they encrypt the information between you and your computer). I have seen the same issues with Vista using IE 8 and Chrome as well as my own Linux box (gentoo) using Google's Chrome. Since chrome and safari share much of the same code base, im sure safari is also effected. As a way around it, firefox 3.6 opened the site fine in linux. Also, although i don't recommend it, you can remove the SSL extension and access the site: negotiation I would not really recommend this for long, either try Mozilla Firefox or notify NSU technical staff of the issues with the webserver's SSL being misconfigured (both that it won't work properly, and for that case the fact that you can access the server without SSL-it should not allow this anyway! the site should redirect you from http to https since this would be a very easy setup for a phish/man-in-the-middle attack anyways).Hope this helps!

Tried all methods given by Mozilla support and also IE support like clearing cache, enable java, proxy settings, ip config flushdns, tracert and so on. Nothing worked yet. Go to this URL: Tecumseh Group - Forums For Professionals and near the end of the CEO's message hit Contact and choose the most appropriate entry. You are contacting the operators of the site and if it's a site problem, they can help.

Whats the deal? no basic work-around or options to configure the security captcha. (Sorry, I was unsure on category here)

Have a look:

Googling this error always ends up leading me into some tutorial where im learning how to implement "Captcha" for my own personal/public website. In case it was not obvious, I do not own a website.

Answer:Captcha "ERROR for site owner: invalid site key"

As the error says, it 's the Site Owners site key is missing or invalid, Email the web master of the site you are trying.
