Dell Latitude E6510 will not start up

Question: Dell Latitude E6510 will not start up

I have a dell latitude e6510 that won't start up. When I push the power button, the cooling fan starts up, several of the lights on the case come on for about five seconds (hdd and power) and then the whole thing powers down.
Anyone have any ideas?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Preferred Solution: Dell Latitude E6510 will not start up

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Dell Latitude E6510 will not start up

Have you tried a hard start. Disconnect the battery and power cord. Then hold down the power button for about 30 seconds. Then try reconnecting the battery or the power plug and see if it will start. If this dose not work you might what to post your computer or laptops Model and make plus your systems specs.

I bought a used Dell for the wife off eBay, came with no Hdd. Booted to bios.  Installed a SSd ,inserted a Win 7 32bit and thought that I would install Win and get it going.

The laptop will post, finish bios, then nothing.Screen is grey and not black.
Using the F2 key it'll go into "preparing to enter setup" but takes forever
The F12 key take me into the boot menu, but take forever as well

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Answer:Dell Latitude E6510 not boot to Hdd

Hi lemonyx,
Thanks for posting.
Apologies that your system is not working as you expected.
First, does the BIOS see the SSD?
Have you been able to run system diagnostics?  Try pressing F12 at startup, run system diagnostics and make a note of any error messages.

Hello,

When i start my Dell Laptop Latitude E6510 i get no screen. When i connect an external screen i can see the system did start and i waitong for me to logon. While i am starting i also do not see the bios startup on the screen.

What can this be?

Answer:No Video with Dell Latitude E6510

Hello Johan ... can you hear the sound of booting up in your dell ? If so, you have two alternatives to do.

First, if it falls within warranty, ask the vendor to replace it . And second, if the warranty is expired, you are to get a new display unit .

Hi all, I have a big problem which I would like some help on.

About 30 minutes ago, I was playing Call of Duty 4 on my Dell Latitude E6510, then there came a small beep, the screen flickered blue/green/white (hard to explain, kind of like when you get a bad signal on your TV). Then the screen froze, the laptop was still running.

I held the power button, turning the laptop off, then when I tried to turn it on again, there was no response from the laptop.

When I press the On button, it lights up blue for 5 seconds, then goes away again. When I try to charge it with the adapter, the charging light comes on for 3 seconds, then goes away again. Nothing has worked. I've also tried to run the laptop without the battery, just on mains, and there was still the same happening.
If you need extra info, please ask .

Thanks a lot.

Answer:Dell Latitude E6510 won't turn on.

I actually just had the exact same thing happen to mine as well. Your description matches mine identically. When I push the power button I can see some of the smaller lights *start* to light up but then quickly go dark again, so only the power button stays on (for about 5 seconds then turns off). During this time the computer makes no sound so it's like the computer isn't even starting to turn on.

Strangely enough this is a company laptop for my job and a coworker of mine just had the same issue with his. I almost wonder if there is a defect and we all had ours from that batch. That doesn't necessarily explain why they are all going bad around the same time though... I mean I've been using mine for almost 4 months now and my coworker has been using his for about 2-3 months.

Even the scrambled signal you described is something I experienced. I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary when it happened, just typing in bed with it on my lap. Power cord wasn't plugged in either. Any help would be appreciated!

Did I install my BIOS updates in the wrong order?
I installed the E6510A10 upgrade fisrt and then tried to install E6510P02 but got a message saying "The System BIOS already contains the A01.1 patch. Patch update cancelled".
After that, I tried to install Latitude_E6510_A17 and got a message saying "You must upgrade to A11 before flashing to this BIOS."
So as of now, the only patch I am able to install is E6510A10 (the one I installed first). Is this the only one I need?

I upgraded my computer a little while ago but my laptop has no audio driver. I have checked the drivers from dell and all they give are windows 7 drivers that wont download for me. Can anyone help me?

Answer:Dell latitude E6510 audio driver

Azurith93,
There really isnt much you can do. You can try installing the Windows 7 driver using Compatibility Mode.
At the site below it shows an Audio Driver for the sound card in your computer for Windows 10. You can try it at your own risk. Dell will not be help responsible for 3rd party drivers.

Hi,

I just bought a Dell Latitude E6510 laptop and now I wonder how to set it up for internet access. I have a desktop PC and so I know that my connection is good.

I tried just connecting it via the RJ45 socket on the PC, thinking it would configure itself once it sensed a live connection, but no go.

I cannot imagine that it is sold without the necessary hard- and software as it is no more than a couple of years old, but maybe it needs setting up?

The spec sheet says, under Connectivity:

10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet 56K v924 Internal Modem (Optional)

which I take to mean that the modem is not necessarily installed as a matter of course but, like I said above - who buys a PC in, say, 2008 and doesn't get internet connectivity in the deal?

I happened to have an ST Lab 10/100 Base TX USB to Ethernet adapter that I tried before posting this, but Windows didn't find a driver for it so I got one from driverscollection.com but didn't get a 'second chance' to install it manually although I had installed the driver and rebooted the PC.

I then ran Device Manager to see what I could see and, not surprisingly, there were unknown, driverless ethernet adapter entries galore.

I then uninstalled those (the ones with an exclamation mark inside a yellow triangle) until I had a 'clean slate', then did a 'rescan for newly installed hardware' - no go.

Then I did the same on my desktop PC. That is, I didn't uninstall any drivers but plugged in the ST-Lab adapter, did a 'rescan for n... Read more

Answer:How connect a Dell Latitude E6510 laptop to the net?

The "10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet 56K v924 Internal Modem (Optional)" is actually 2 separate specs.
10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet means the laptop has a wired network card that allows the laptop to be hardwired directly to either a DSL or cable modem, or hardwired directly to a router which is in turn hardwired to a DSL or cable modem.
56K v924 Internal Modem (Optional) means the laptop can be ordered with an internal dialup modem as an option.
Your laptop also apparently comes with a wireless network card for wireless Internet connectivity.

Normally, a router is required to connect 2 separate computers to the Internet.
A standard(wired) router allows both computers to be hardwired to the router's LAN ports.
A wireless router allows both computers to be either hardwired to 2 of the router's LAN ports, or one can be hardwired and the other configured to connect wirelessly, or both can be configured to connect wirelessly(assuming both have wireless network cards).

If you already have a router configured for Internet access, then to connect a 2nd computer to the Internet, go to Windows Help, type internet in the search box, select "Set up a second internet connection", and follow the instructions.

If you do not have a router, then you need to install one. They normally come with setup instructions.

When the new battery is installed and also the adapter/charger is plugged into a wall outlet what is the status icon down by the time indicating? How long have you left it in the computer charging for? Ultimately it is always possible that the battery you received may be defective. So retain your receipts for the purchase as it may be necessary to return it. truenorth P.S. About two months ago, I contacted you about finding out what driver I needed for my Dell Latitude E6510. I have tried everything that was suggested and even some things that were not suggested. So I thought I'd try again for your help.I've called Dell; no luck there without a service contact. I contacted Intel because the modem is reportedly an Intel modem. No luck there. I have even reinstalled Win 7 and that didn't help either. Does anyone know how to tell if a modem is good or bad?I've searched the laptop Device Manager and find there is no Wireless entry, but there are six entries under ?Other devices? which is preceded with an icon containing ???. Each of the six entries is shown with an icon consisting of (what looks like) a ?1? in a yellow block preceding each entry. The six entries are: Broadcom USH w/swipe sensor; Ethernet Controller; Network Controller ; PCI Serial Port; PCI Simple Connumications Controller; and Unknown Device.Do you know anyone who might own a Dell Latitude E6510 and ask them what their wireless driver is?I'm still a novice on Win 7 and therefore will need explicit details if you know how I can find out what the driver is.Thank you.Bob K.PS: Is it time for me to take my laptop to a Computer Service company?

So here at home, I have my laptop (a Dell Latitude E6150) which I usually have plugged into my charger, mouse, audio input, and Ethernet cable on my desk, since I don't move it too often. However, whenever I want to use my laptop in other parts of the house like my room or the kitchen, there is no ethernet cable and so my laptop automatically switches to our wifi. Suddenly, one night while I had my laptop in my room, it would not give me wifi. It would show me that there were available networks, but that it was unable to connect to any of them (I would try to connect and it would give me an error). When I troubleshooted the problem, the laptop said that was an issue with the router or access point. It suggested I restart my router then try again. I did so, and nothing changed, I was still unable to access wifi. However, my ipod touch and all the other computers were still able to connect to the wifi perfectly fine. My wifi switch IS on, so that is not the issue. I don't believe I purposely installed anything new onto my laptop, so I have no clue why it would stop working with my wifi. Any suggestions or has this happened to anybody else? Thanks.

I have a problem with the backlit keyboard on my Dell Latitude E6510 (refurbished, from Dell Direct). Backlight function worked fine from the time I got the E6510 (03/2014) until several weeks ago. Because it was not working, I ran Dell Diagnostics scan, which indicated the original HD was operating “outside normal parameters.” I assume maybe that had an impact on the non-functioning backlight.  I therefore replaced with a Sandisk SSD but cannot get the backlight function to work.  I saw a blogpost about accessing the "Windows Mobility Center" in order to adjust keyboard brightness, but when I accessed it there was no “Keyboard Brightness” option present.  I'm assuming somehow the backlight function is disabled and needs to be re-enabled.  Any ideas how I can re-enable the keyboard brightness function? Windows 7/8 is supposed to provide the webcam drivers for most Dell computers. If you system needs webcam drivers, go to Drivers and Downloads enter your service tag, then select your operating system. If your system needs webcam drivers, they'll be listed under Input.

I recommend you to tap the F2 or F12 key every two seconds at start up that is at Dell logo which will take you BIOS or One time Boot menu screen respectively.
If F2 or F12 does not respond, please check if the F8 key responds at Dell logo. If no success, try connecting an external keyboard and check if the ‘Function’ keys respond. Please reply with the status to assist you further.

Hi,
Greetings!
I would like to ask for your assistance because I'm already out of ideas how to resolve this issue. Right after I powered up the laptop, it will get past the DELL logo screen, then it will be completely just black screen. I wouldn't even hear any activity from the CPU fan, HDD and pressing the Caps Lock doesn't lit up the LED. The LED indicators on the side are only displaying the power indicator, but none for HDD, Battery and Wireless.
Here are the steps that I have done so far:
1) Removed the HDD and Battery, then press & hold the power button for at least 45-60 seconds to disperse the internal voltage. Then attach the Battery, but not the HDD.
2) Press and hold Fn and then the Power button, hoping to boot me up to the ePSA Diagnostic Utility
3) Press F2 or F12 while booting up
4) Re-seat the memory and also clean with a dry tissue
These are the procedures that I have done but nothing has changed. It still displays blank screen right after the DELL logo.
I do hope that you could assist me on this. Thank you so much!

Hi

Sorry to be so long answering, ive been a bit busy, usual cause is faulty memory chips or ones that have just worked loose, if you have 2 chips try either in DImm1 socket and see if it works, failing that the board is going bad, do an Ebay search on the board and see what it costs to replace it.

I have a stupid Dell Latitude C600 laptop and when I try to turn it on the power light blinks repeatedly and all the other lights stay on a steady green. I can hear the fan on but nothing else comes on. I even plugged it into a monitor in case it was the LCD but I still get nothing. I took out the battery and plugged it in just from the power supply and still nothing. Could it be a dead hard drive? I looked at other threads and there was talk of Motherboard issues but non of my lights are blinking so I didn't think it could be that.
Thank you in advanced for any help

Answer:Dell Latitude C600 Won't Start

post in the correct forum next time. (mobile computing). if your mobo does not even post, then it is NOT the hard drive. you have a power issue. Either your battery is dead, the power adapter is faulty, or there is something else wrong. You should at least get a POST.

read the NO POST guide in the guides forum and the bios beep guide appropriate to your system.

Hello.

I have researched extensively to see if I can find an answer to my problem but have had no luck. My Dell Latitude 13 has suddenly stopped working. I turned it on and Windows seemed to start but it hangs right before the login screen. All I got was a black screen with the arrow cursor in the middle and the laptop did nothing after that. The HDD light was on solid. I restarted several times but I get the same thing. I assumed the hard drive was bad so I replaced it and installed Windows 7 Professional and the installation went fine. After it finished the PC restarted and I get the "Setup is preparing Windows for first use" and it freezes just like it did before with the HDD light on solid. I have changed the BIOS settings back to default. No luck. I performed Dell diagnostics and no problems were found. Does anybody have any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance.
George.

My Dell E5530 won't start, screen remains black and I have hard drive light solid, wifi and battery blinking.
Manual of E5530 don't give this case of blinking but knowledge base of E6540 says that a problem with memory detection, so I tried to use others memory from another E5530 without success. I tried to connect VGA port to an external monitor but the monitor remains black. And also tried to disconnect the hard drive without success.

Any ideas ?

Thanks
Vincent

I added a memory stick to my laptop but it never started again. When i power it up, the power led is turning on for 15 seconds (solid white light) and after is shuts, the battery lights in amber color for 2 seconds and then the computer shuts off.
I couldn't find this lightning sequence in the support so i removed the hdd, the dvd and even the ram and still the problem occures.
no need to say that i"ve inserted one memory stick at a time for any of the dimms and it wouldnt help
Thanks alot

When you did the memory upgrade, was the system unplugged and the battery removed or disconnected?

I got an older laptop from my aunt. I finally found a working AC adapter for it and plugged the laptop in and wait a few minutes, then I tried to turn it on, it caused a light in the shape of a battery to turn on. Pressing the button on the battery reveals that all 5 lights come on, so I assume the battery is charged. What happened?

Hey Gang, I will try and boil down my issue so that it makes sense. Several weeks ago I turned on the Dell laptop only to have it open to a black screen with the cursor stuck right in the middle. I tried many attempts to start the thing, but it would never boot all the way to the desk top. Even in safe mode, it was just a black screen with safe mode at the corners. I tried to run diagnostics, changed the order programs loaded, basically any bit of advice I could do that I found on the web. Finally, since nothing worked, I installed a parallel version of XP. First thing, of course, I grabbed what important info I needed off the HD. I've been using the computer with the 'new' XP for a few weeks now without issue, but in the last few days, I would come back to the laptop after it had been on for a few hours to find it frozen. The only thing I could do was to shut it down by the power switch. Yesterday, when I went to boot it up, it was frozen right away, with the cursor in the middle of the screen, the desktop background loaded, but no programs visible on the the desktop. I shut it down and rebooted with the same results.

My questions are: does this sound like a software or hardware issue? If it's a hardware issue, is it just a detereorating HD which can be replaced? I might be more interested in switching out the HD than trying to find a new computer. I know it's a brief description of events; I'll fill in any info I can to help fin... Read more

Answer:Problem with Dell Latitude at start up

Sounds like hardware to me, although it's puzzling that it worked for a while with the new XP. Any chance you have a malware problem?

If you can get it to run, you could try a hard drive check. Here's one free app to test it with:

Hi All, I have a Dell Latitude D531 that stopped booting last week. When you press the power button, the lights/indicators turn on and you can hear the HDD spin up but only for a couple seconds and then it shuts off. No error beeps, the screen never turns on I think because it happens so fast.

I have tried starting it with and with out the battery with the same results. I am thinking maybe it is a dead fan?? and the system doesn't start to keep it from over heating?

Please let me know if anyone has any troubleshooting ideas. Thanks, Dan

Hello,

I've done some shopping for an SSD and am finding the choices/brands/reviews/advice overwhelming.

I have a Dell E6510 Win7 Pro 64bit. The current HDD is a 5400rpm model.

Through life experiences I've learned that its possible to overbuy. I need an SSD that is reliable and suited for my laptop without being more than my laptop can utilize. I don't know if my laptop is SATA II or SATA III or anything else so choosing is difficult for me.

I'm also strongly considering an SSD that would slide into my ExpressCard slot or PC Card slot to allow me to keep my HDD. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two and whether or not they would be suitable for booting.

I e-mailed OCZ for advice a few days ago but no reply.

Answer:Which SSD for my Dell E6510

Does that laptop have 1 or 2 drive bays and SATA adapters? If you just have one spot, you may need a large capacity SSD. How much data is currently on your hard drive?

Ok.so recently the computer has been working fine until yesterday.

First when it logged me on, no desktop shows up.so i ran taskmanager and closed explorer.exe and ran it again and it worked fine. But today, while i was using it, it crashed with a blue screen. I couldnt read what the whole thing said because my screen is cracked on the top middle section. But it mentioned somthing with physical memory being dumped. Recently i added a 1gb usb as virtual ram to speed up my computer a bit too. I couldn't read it so i figured if i turned the laptop off and rebooted it up it will be ok. So i realized that the usb got bent and maybe came off the computer. So i turned on the computer and it started up. It showed the dell logo and the bios being booted. But it just pauses when it starts. Nothing happens. it doent load. It's just stuck there and all i can do is turn it off.

Windows Xp sp3
1400 mhz processor
1.5 gb ram
about 35gb harddrive.

Answer:Dell latitude d600 wont start up.

Have you tried Safe Mode boot?

Do you have your Dell XP install disk?

Have you unplugged that bent USB device?

my dell latitude d420 havent start working since its last current use. before some function keys of the keyboard did'nt work such as letter m, l, and arrow keys. until when i turn it on yesterday there's no lcd display, when i press power switch the power light indicator just light up for a short while but turn off after 3 seconds. i've been using windows xp sp3 as my OS. i have tried removing hdd and even its memory but still it doesn't start up, just a 3 seconds light on the power indicator and then it automatically shut down. i dont hear any beep/beeps when i turn on the switch.

Answer:dell latitude d420 unable to start up

Remove the battery and just run on the Power Adapter. See if that works, if not, then remove the HDD, start and press F2 and see if you can get into Setup (Bios). If so, then restart and press F12 and do the Dell Diagnostics. You also can remove all but one stick of RAM and download the ISO image for Memtest in my signature, burn the image to CD using IMGBurn also in my signature. Boot off of the newly created CD tests on Each stick of RAM separately. if you get any errors, Red, that stick is bad and needs to be replaced. if the computer shuts down, then this is probably a motherboard issue, probably not worth fixing due to the age of the computer since it was first released in 2007.

I have a 3 year old dell latitude d830 and everytime i turn it on the screen goes pink with a variety of thin colourful vertical lines through it. This is as far as it goes, i cannot get it to go to the regular start up screen or any other.
I know the battery is currently fried so i have to keep it plugged in for it to work, could that have anything to do with this? or is it another matter?
Thank you.

Answer:Dell Latitude D830 does not go further than the start up screen

Maybe u should try remove the whole battery and then plug the charger directly, if your pc turns on with the same issue, then it's not the battery.

Try to plug your laptop to an external monitor. if the display is normal on the external display then your screen is bad.
Check to see that there is no other sign of abnormality, such as after-POST beep or the activity LEDs.
I hope it should be this.

Microsoft assured me that my Windows 7 laptop (Latitude E6510) was ready to upgrade to Windows 10.  In a way, it was... but only after I upgraded did I see Dell's caution that this model was not verified to work 100% with Windows 10.
Almost everything works (sound didn't work initially, but I found a fix online that helped), but clearly new drivers are required which recognize and drive the PC Card reader, the SD card reader, and even the CD/DVD drive.  The CD drive won't even open when pressed, nor is it recognized as a drive by Windows 10.
Yes, these inputs can all be accessed via external USB drives,  but please provide new drivers, Dell.  For those with this model on the fence about upgrading, determine how much you need these built-in readers/drive!

Answer:Latitude E6510: Windows 10 works, but not CD/PC card/SD card reader

I've just upgraded my Latitude E6510 to windows 10. Most of the drivers refuse to run as they cant recognise W10 OS. I suggest anyone thinking of the upgrade not to at this stage. The Dell Driver downloads area warns of this.
Right now I have a non working keyboard, mouse pad, backlight. My biggest concern is the Nvidea graphics drivers wont install so I have fuzzy text with some of my programs (not all).
I am surprised MS allowed me to download W10?? I'm going to waste another day trying to fix this up or I'm going to have to reinstall W7. Very unproductive-not happy

I cannot run any diagnostics at this time.

I replaced CMOS coin battery. Perhaps damaging contacts to connector while prying them off the old battery. I flattened them out and secured with electrical tape, securely attaching the jumper style connector to the motherboard. I added 4GB RAM (kingston ddr2) per spec. I made sure the memory was securely snugged in the slot and clips working.

When I power on (with or without battery) all I see ar flashing CAPS LOCK and LOCK indicatgors. the NUM LOCK indicator is solid for about d30-40 seconds then POWERS OFF.

I get no screen and the computer does not boot.
It has Win7 Pro installed.
I am not sure how to proceed. Any help appreciated.

Hi all,

I know just enough to be dangerous, but not enough to figure this out yet.

I started getting blue screens on this previously stable laptop about two weeks ago. To my knowledge, I had not installed any new drivers recently. When I got the first 2 BSODs in the same day, I did a system restore back 1 or 2 days. Kept getting blue screens - sometimes 2 a day, sometimes 1 per 2-3 days. No pattern. Happened overnight when the computer was sitting alone. Happened in the middle of VOIP meetings at work. Eventvwr would open and then crash (wouldn't close - just sat there and took up CPU and gave no results). Read the memory.dmp, but it seemed pretty generic and I didn't get very far. I ran Dell Diagnostics and right away it came up as bad hard drive and told me they'd send me a new one. Fine. Stopped working on the issue. Got the hard drive (which did not boot - sigh). Re-partitioned, re-formatted and then it worked. Re-loaded everything on it last night. Ran all windows updates. Just got another blue screen. Cry. The BSOD seems pretty generic. Restarts too fast for me to read it all, but I think I caught "clock interrupt" and a pretty generic code "0x...." code.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance. I am going to go run the more extensive memory tests, since at least I know how to do that. I used to build my own PCs in the last 90's, but since using laptops, have gotten much more hardware incompetent sadly.

Answer:BSOD on Dell E6510 even after HDD replacement

Maybe I didn't manage to get the dump file in there so here are details:
On Sun 2/10/2013 8:51:56 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: Unknown (0xFFFFF88003178180)
Bugcheck code: 0x101 (0x31, 0x0, 0xFFFFF88003178180, 0x2)
Error: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT
Bug check description: This indicates that an expected clock interrupt on a secondary processor, in a multi-processor system, was not received within the allocated interval.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. This problem might be caused by a thermal issue.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error.
Google query: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT

Installed newer version of Bios. Ran Dell Diagnostics (no issues). Ran an hour of memory testing with no issues (will do more overnight). Running driver verifier. Sitting back and waiting for the next BSOD or suggestion from forum members.

I have a Dell Latitude E6510 laptop.  I have it running WIndows 10 Professional. I realize that Dell doesn't support Win 10 for this model, but everything seems to be working except a USB 3.0 Express Card (StarTech) that I purchased.  The support guy there thinks there may be a problem because the "Generic CardBus Controller" is installed under "PCMCIA Adapters" in device manager. I am more than willing to try a Windows 7 Driver ()It has worked on other things, but I don't see one listed at Dell Support site. Hi all. I recently acquired a Dell E6510 and this is actually my first Dell Latitude and Dell laptop- ever. I am running W8 64-bit and am wondering if Windows Update would find a compatible driver for an upgrade to 8.1 64-bit?

I am looking at the NVIDIA website and there are several variations of W7, W8, and W8.1 64-bit drivers e.g. Quadro ODE Graphics Driver, Quadro Performance Driver, Quadro Partner Certified Driver, AutoCAD Performance Driver, 3ds Max Performance Driver, Mosaic Utility, or Mercury Transmit Plug-in are all choices in a drop-down menu.

What is the difference between these drivers? Has anyone run W8.1 64-bit on an E6510? Thanks!

Answer:NVIDIA NVS 3100M- Which drivers apply to my Dell E6510?

id go with tge quadro ODE graphics driver.
however tbh does it need upgrading? youre not going to see a performance boost of any great calibre if you're intention is to try and play games.
the laptop is designed as a business one, so I can only assume the difference in drivers is specific to individual applications such as Autocad ect.

Answer:Dell latitude e6430 and dell latitude e6420

Joseph mate best leave as is after all it was made to function as it came. Now for the compound and copper shim personally I would not bother with the copper shim I can see no good reason for it the dual pipe again if it was made to work with one pipe then leave alone.

It is better if you renew the compound using a decent cleaner and compound and I can recommend these for that job

Arctic Silver Incorporated - ArctiClean for thorough cleaning and preparation and Arctic Silver Incorporated - Arctic Silver 5 for the compound.

Now it depends on who you listen to but I always use these products and after the old compound is thoroughly cleaned off and the surfaces prepped I spread the compound very thinly and across the both entire surface of the CPU and the heatsink with my finger inside a vinyl or latex glove and then place a rice grain sized piece of compound on the CPU and replace the heatsink. If you touch the surfaces after clean and prep then redo it.

While you are in there do make sure the fan and the radiator are really spotless and I sometimes relube the fan bearings to make sure the fan is running at full tilt when needed.

Hello!
We have during the last autumn bought 3 Dell Latitude 7275 2in1  which comes with the "Dell Latitude 12 Premier Keyboard"
On all of these we experience a very annoying issue.
When connected to the keyboard it behaves very unstable and frequently looses contact with the 7275 just by a light touch and does not work at all, the users have to be very picky in which angle they have the 7275 connected and use it for the keyboard to work at all.
We have spoken to Dell support last week and they say the are not aware of this at all.
We can´t believe this is "by design" and thus we wonder if anyone else have the same issues here ?
And if so have managed to solve it somehow and can share the solution.

I installed Windows 7 64-bit on my Latitude E6400. I cannot seem to find any way to install Dell Control Point. I got the Driver Pack to install. I found one download of Security Manager that worked, but I would like the Power Manager one.

I've looked on this forum a few times and any links I click on just redirect me to the Drivers and Downloads page. I get errors saying that my service pack is not supported.....I'm on Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I also got some 32-bit errors, but that's my fault for downloading the 32-bit version.

Does anybody have a link to the full Dell Control Point package (Power Manager, Connection Manager, Security Manager) that will work on 64-bit Windows 7?

Photo CDs burned on my Dell Inspiron 530S will not play on my older Dell Latitude lap top. The last one I burned used a mode that was for playing on older computers, but it didn't work. I have purchased photo archive CDs from Kodak that play on the lap top with no problems. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

for the basics and schoolwork
and which is newer

Answer:which is better dell latitude e5440 or dell latiude e6430

The E6430 has a metal case and is more robust, but uses an older CPU and chipset.
The E5440 is a plainer chassis with a newer generation CPU and chipset.
The E6440 is the concurrent update to the E5440.
There are too many possible configurations to definitively say which is better -- it depends on the CPU, GPU, etc. in the specific model (or that you choose when you order one, but since the E6430 isn't a current model,  you may be looking at used systems).

Answer:DELL Latitude 3340 Stuck at DELL LOGO

Hi james.hilham,

I would like to look into this further, can you Private Message me your Service Tag on the system? Also, it sounds like you might have seen the Diagnostic Boot Screen, but can you try these steps below to see if it gets any further:

1. Disconnect the AC adapter from the system and remove the system battery.2. Hold down the Power button for approximately 10 seconds to drain any residual power and then release the power button3. Hold the power button down once more while inserting the AC adapter into the system. This will initiate the Forced ePSA which may clear the state causing the system to remain at the Dell splash screen.4. Release the power button once you see any text on the display or the Dell splash screen\5. The Dell ePSA (Pre-boot System Assessment) diagnostic page will next appear6. If the ePSA page does not appear then the recovery method was not effective.7. Should ePSA initiate allow it to complete the quick test to determine if any component failures exist.8. Should the system recover from the condition and boot into the operating system, it is very important to update the system BIOS immediately after the system has recovered to prevent a reoccurrence.

You also view a video on the steps here:
Lastly, when the system freezes at the Dell startup screen, can you let me know if there are any diagnostic LEDs, such as a certain blinking light pattern (there might even be solid lights) for the HDD LED, Power LED, and/or the Wireless L... Read more

Okay, carrying around my Dell Precision M4700 is definitely NOT fun.
I am considering getting Windows tablet for doing basic document / web surfing work with a keyboard attachment.
I was looking at Dell Latitude 10 vs Dell Venue 11 Pro mainly for their user replaceable batteries (especially the Latitude 10 with its ability to have a 4 cell battery in the back!)
Battery life was the most important consideration. And I know how important it is to have a device with replaceable battery from my experiences (so definitely won't be getting a Surface, sorry)
It seems that these two Dell tablets are very similarly spec'd except the Venue 11 has a screen that is .7 inch bigger, which is not a big deal to me. I would be getting both with the Intel Atom processor, since I will be using my Precision for anything intense.
The Venue 11 Pro can be had from Microsoftstore Canada for around $600, while I can find a Dell certified refurbished Latitude 10 tablet from Ebay for about $400.Buy Dell Venue 11 Pro Tablet - Microsoft Store Canada Online Store
The spec seems pretty similar, but I do like the fact that I can add a 4 cell battery in the Latitude for the total battery life of 17 hours, which is why I am leaning towards the Latitude.
To summarize my questions
1) Do you own either of these devices? Could you let me know what you like and do not like about your Dell tablet? How are the keyboard options on both?
2) Do you have any experiences with Dell certified refurbished tablets? The one... Read more

Answer:Dell Latitude 10 Tablet vs Dell Venue 11 Pro

I have never handled a Latitude 10 and my experience with the Venue's is limited to owning the 8 and handling the 11 for about a total of 30 minutes.
Do know that the latest generation of Atom is a major improvement over previous iterations, as least, thats what I have been led to believe.
For basic (or even normal) use, both should suffice, but I'd go for the 11 Pro if performance is on your mind.
The Core i3/5 versions are faster, run hotter (use fans) and probably use more power I believe.
sorry I can't help more

I own a Dell Latitude E6430.   I am looking for a Dell Companion 12000mAh or 18000mAh type of device to power and charge my Dell Lattitude E6430 when I am traveling (no outlet available).   When I view the compatibility list for both the Dell Companion 12000mAh and the 18000mAh I don't see the Dell Latitude E6430 in either list.  I went and purchased the 12000mAh and I am attempting to use this to charge and power my Dell Latitude E6430.  It powers my Dell Laptop for about a minute and then quits.   Is there a solution for this problem?   And/or is there another Dell Companion type device that I can purchase that is listed as 100% compatible with the Dell Latitude E6430?   I would like to either get this solution working or purchase the product that is listed as 100% compatible.

hi, my grandaughter has been given a dell latitude, think it must be an old business laptop, it had win2000 in it but she never got any disks or anything with it, she had a new win98 disk which they have put in, now for the problem.....the image on the screen does not fill it, there is a 1 to 2 inch black border round it, and it is set a 16 bit..they downloaded a video driver from the dell site, and it is still the same..so one thing at a time, could someone please tell us what to do next..thank you on behalf of Cheryl and myself.

Answer:help with a dell latitude

Question: Dell Latitude CPx

Hi, I have just brought a Dell Latitude CPx back from the dead and it is working wonderfully apart from the fact that the Function (FN) keys don't 'function'.
Any ideas please?

Answer:Dell Latitude CPx

Humm... old.

When you say you brought it back from the dead, how so? Did you have a Dell recovery disk, or did you install an OS from a box into it? Was the keyboard okay before hand, or was it part of the reason for it being DOA originally?

The CPx series were one of those 'semi'-Dell machines, since the same notebook could be purchased in a number of liveries, including HP and Gateway (your machine looks exactly like my Solo 1400). If you loaded an operating system into it that wasn't from a recovery disk, then you probably need to download the drivers from the Dell website into it. Otherwise, the keyboad may be out of sorts, and may need replacing.

If you can find the service tag number (on Dell laptops, they tend to be on a thin white label and are only 6 to 8 digits long), you can punch it in here (http://support.dell.com/support/top...y_systems_info/details?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~tab=2) to find out what was on this beastie originally, and what can be downloaded to it.

Question: dell latitude cpi

I stumbled across your site and noticed a thread where you helped out a non-techie like me and I thought I would register and give it a shot. My daughter asked me to fix her Dell Latitude cpi which she uses for her college work. That was the easy bit it was a dodgy on/off button. Then she asked me to get it connected to the internet through her cable modem. I thought that would be easy too but I have spent hours on the internet trying to find what sort of adapter is needed because there is no direct socket connection to fit the modem. I would be eternally grateful for any help you can offer and it would make me look good in my daughter's eyes.

Thats a normal problem for those keyboards. You could probably have gotten those keys working again by reseating the cable from the motherboard to the keyboard. Now it sounds like you need a new keyboard. You can probably get one from Dell or possibly find a used one from ebay. Replacements can also be found online like this.

Answer:Dell Latitude CPx?

I have a Latitude CPxJ very similar to what you are describing. I put in a 40 gig hard drive, and eventually had to replace the keyboard (which was simple) and have had absolutely NO problems for the last 5+ years. I run Windows 2000  and Linux as a dual boot with a wireless card and have had no issues with either. That price is a bargain if it is fully functional. A new battery costs about $100 and gets me about 3 1/2 hours of use.Any other questions?

Hi everyone,

This is a long shot ... I've got a machine from about 1998 here and am hoping someone might be able to remember something about them. It's small, black and very chunky - the Dell Latitude XPi CD ( 166mhz! ). I needed something with windows 98 so I 'upgraded' the drive from 2 gb. to a Samsung HM100JC ( 100 gb. ) Basically I've got some games that don't work with compatibility in XP at all ...

All fine and dandy with swapping the hard drive, but the underneath of the machine gets universally hot as hell! I don't seem to be able to detect a fan, much less any cooling vents. Would I be right in thinking that it was fine with the 2 gb, and it needed neither a fan or cooling vents, but that my latter day 100 gb. drive runs that much hotter? I actually love this laptop, but want to 'waste' neither it or the drive, so any suggestions much welcome!

I've tried the Dell site but the documentation I found wasn't hugely informative about the specific problems I'm having ( though to their credit, all of the setup files were there for download ).

Many thanks,

Tony

Answer:Old Dell Latitude XPi - very hot

If your new hard drive is higher RPM than the old drive, then that would explain the heat. Your old drive was probably 4500 RPM, and the new one 5400 or 7200. If that is true, there's not much you can do about it short of buying a new drive.

Ok, so here's the problem.

I have a Dell Latitude CPx J65OGT BIOS Revision A08.
I also have the Windows XP Pro Reinstallation CD with Service Pack 2.

The original problem was upon bootup the computer gave a STOP error:
***STOP:0x000000A5 (0x00000002, 0x81BD9810, 0xE104B780, 0x81BB0AD8)

I tried booting from the Reinstallation CD and this is what happens:

At Windows Setup it gives me -artition [Unknown] 9856MB(9585MB Free)

It gives me the following options, and I have provided the information on what happens when I try each of them:

Create Partition, C - Nothing Happens

Enter, Run Setup - An error has occured while Setup was updating partition information on: 9586 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR] Setup cannot continue. (Then the computer restarts)

Delete Partition, D - The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor or visit http://www.hardware-update.com for an updated BIOS. If you are unable to obtain an updated BIOS of the latest BIOS supplied by your vendor is not ACPI compliant, you can turn off ACPI mode during text mode setup. To do this, simply press the F7 key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system will not notify you that the F7 key was pressed - it will silently disable ACPI and allow you to continue your installation.

Recovery Console does not work either.

What I gather from this is that the partition is not assigned a prompt (For example, C and I cannot figure out how to give it on... Read more
