Preferred Solution: OMG! I tried everyting.. cant figure out wats wrong...Please take a look at this log

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

network:

comp specs 1: 1.63 Ghz Athlon XP 1800+, 512 MB RAM DDR, 64MB Winfast Geforce 3 ti 200, Windows XP Pro Build 2600 w/ SP1
comp specs 2: 500 Mhz, 128 MB SDRAM, 16MB Integrated Motherboard Video Card, Windows XP Pro Build 2600 w/ SP1

router: Linksys BEFSR41 firmware 1.44.2z

problem:
i cant believe im having problems with this (ive taken the cisco CCNA course), but after reformatting the older comp (comp 2), i cant get the newer comp (comp 1) onto the network. ive done the normal xp network wizard, but the newer comp will error out no matter what setting i put it on. so i did everything manually, setting the ip addresses, resetting and reconfiguring the router, but all i can get is that each computer can see the other, and i can access files on the newer computer using the older computer. however, the newer computer cannot access the older computers files. thanks for any help.

Answer:dunno wats wrong...

I'll recommend the easy way, even though some forum members can't seem to understand why it works. Install the NETBEUI protocol on both machines, and I suspect you'll be browsing after that. It's on the XP CD in the VALUEADD directory.

ive got this new computer (spec.. 3.2Ghz intel 4, 2GB RAM, radeon 9550 128mb graphics card, audigy 2 sound card, xp sp 2 etc..)

i installed Rome: Total War and the Return of the King games today - and either only a small amount of time (after the intro for rome) or a longer time (when i wanted to exit on rotk) the game freezes, u get a jit jit repeated through the speakers and its inexitable. u have to restart to get out of there. these games played ok in my other comp, jst was very slow when running huge battles in rome.

im jst wondering if this sounds like a problem anyone here has had before, or if they have an idea wat it cld be. i think its pretty impossible that its RAM or hard drive related - coz they are top end. i intall the directx 9.0b that rome comes with - doesnt seem to take much time installing tho - its jst the acceptance screen and then the finished screen. i also downloaded and installed directx 9.0c and its not helping.. also, my old and favourite game 'civilisation: call to power' doesnt play at all. u click on play and nothing happens. i think that's all i know really... any help appreciated

Answer:graphics card? wats wrong plz?

most likely it's a graphics driver related problem. Try the latest ATi Drivers, or maybe the modded Omega ATi drivers.

for proper driver installation, get Driver Cleaner Pro, uninstall the driers from add/remove programs, boot to safe mode--run driver cleaner, reboot and install new drivers.

ok people brace yourself for this one...

my computer is connected to my house network through a usb wireless device and it has worked fine since i got it. i use p2p programs often and found that the limit on half-open connections is too low for me so i set out to find a fix after finding many sites that resommened and used the lvllord fix for this i got it and ran it. it said i had to reboot which i decided 2 do since i had also installed a utility for a new mouse that i got, which also needed a reboot.

so i rebooted my comp, can connect to the network fine, signal strength good, dhcp is working, but i cant access anything on the network. i cant get google, the router, the modem or even other computers on the network. so i think that the patch did somethin bad to the tcpip.sys file when i ran it so i hit the unistall button on it (though it says that the limit is still at 10 andnot 50 which is wat i changed it to??) i hit unistall, says it failed somethin 2 do with windows changin the file or somethin. anyway i thought that possibly the utility i installed did somethin (very remote, but nonetheless) so i unistalled it and rebooted, nuthin.

so i tried disconnecting the usb dongle and running a network cable and hooray it all works again. so that ruled out the .sys file being bad. so i thought id unistall the usb dongle and reinstall (maybe the driver didnt like the patch). but device manager locked up.

so i thought ah well, deal with it later gunna watch a video then maybe... Read more

Hello, the problem I'm having is that every few hours my TCP/IP protocol stops working. The modem lights remain normal but I can't connect to anything. The only thing that works on the internet is traceroutes at the command prompt which function normally. The solution is that I have to reboot and then everything returns to normal until a few hours later when it happens again. There are no error messages on any of my browsers. The page just goes white immediately. When I try to retrieve my email, I get a message about the TCP/IP isn't working. Any ideas? Any assistance much appreciated.

I keep getting internet explorer running in the background and some sound file keeps playing. It pops up randomly through out the day and only goes away if i terminate the process. Also, I can't install AVG because there's some error that occurs while installing. I've attached a log of hijackthis. My computer keeps freezing from time to time and I have to turn it off and turn it back on for it to work.

My AVG shows up as:

Local machine: installation failed
Initialization:
Error: Checking of state of the item file link_All_Users_AVGUI failed.
Internal error. Value not evaluated.

I keep trying to attach the file but it keep showing up as an error. I'll just post it here then.

I came home from work the other day and discovered I was infected with all sorts of malware and viruses. I downloaded Avast! and after many pre-boot scans I thought I finally destroyed everything. I still get some strange random software issues though that Avast! isnt saying is anything of note.

In particular I've had a generic win32 application crash, and more frequently, microsoft development environment keeps opening and crashing randomly- the file mdm.exe seems to be it but nothing says that its a virus file or anything of the sort.

can someone help me out? im not sure what to think at this point. I'll gladly post whatever logs are needed.

thanks

I opened Firefox today, and went to open Outlook.com. Where my password goes in, there were little black dots with LEGS! They looked like little bugs... (hint?)

My machine has been running really slow...and there are significant lags between clicking on something and when it responds.

I am concerned that my computer is not secure, and I'm afraid to put in my PINS or look at online banking.

Can someone help?

I have run my virus scans and Malware Anti-Bites, and have found nothing so far....

Thank you!!!!

Per BC Advisor, I am posting this new topic: I'm having a lot of issues. I cannot sign into my user account and after approx 10min it did sign me in but a message popped up in a small window over a completely black screen stating that the tablet driver was not working. Everything I attempted to do took forever because the computer I so incredibly slow and 'laggy'. I switched to my admin account and I'm having the same error message and issues. When I hit ctrl-alt-del to get to task manager a windows 10 screen shows up with the dots that circle around and it says something about preparing security options. It only did it once on both my user account and admin, now it goes straight to task manager. I dont know if this is significant but it is something I have not seen before. I'm typing this on my phone because even typing takes several minutes! I'm concerned. When I go online, Firefox continuously says it is not responding any time I type or click on anything!I'm currently trying to download my documents to my external hard drive just in case. When I signed off my user account and only was logged into my admin. everything sped up.  I am not sure why I'm having these issues with my account, although in my former thread it was stated that my computer was clean, it was he that suggested to move a bit deeper. Here is my former thread with all the requested scans and logs:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/611104/please-help-i-suspect-that-i-may-be-infec... Hi i ve got a intel 945 cpu and i can t get it going tried loading fail safe settings and nothing it just freezes at setup windows start up i ve tried optimized settings and its the same. Thought it was me hard drive so i got a knew one still the same told it sounds like the bios settings are wrong or it may have been overclocked can someone help me figure it out at all i desperate. :)

Answer:need help can't figure out what is wrong

You Could have a bad windows install CD I have one that does the same thing when you try to setup windows XP with it as soon as setup loads it freezes, it's a copy that I had for awhile used it thousands of times and now it doesn't work, I got one from my brother and his worked fine boots and setup doesn't freeze. I have a backup copy on my hard drive of the ISO before it went bad so I could just make myself a new copy but haven't done it I'm lazy. Anyway you could try getting another copy of the Windows CD and try that. http://telechargerman.tripod.com/

I'm pretty sure that my computer has a virus but when I run a Certainantispyware it just removes the adware.  I've scanned my computer with other security programs but they don't seem to ever find anything.  My computer is SO slow, that I have to scan with a Certainantispyware before I can even get online to check my email or else I'd be sitting and waiting for it to load for what seems like a lifetime!!  And then I have to periodically stop doing whatever I'm trying to do to scan or else it will completely freeze up and crash!  I've defragmented, performed disk clean-up, and deleted all my cookies and browsing history.  I don't know what else I can do.  I'm running Windows XP on my little Acer Aspire One.  I'm not sure what info about my computer that you would need...   ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Hi,

My computer has this issue, that it reboots on a lot of occasions. These are the specs it currently has, its stable now:
mobo: ASRock 775i65G, VGA and sound are onboard
3GHz Intel CPU, i dont really know what model
512MB RAM, Vdata DDR400
19" LCD monitor, Acer
Logitech keyboard & mouse
2 HDDs, 180 GB each, both Maxtor

This way it runs ok, but onboard VGA is really insufficient for nearly everything.
When i insert 256MB nvidia geforce fx5500, it reboots before even booting windows.
When i insert 128MB Asus a9250 (brand new), it reboots when i run a game (any game i think, even older ones like WC3)

The same things still happen when i disengage one of the hard disks, so im quite confident theyre ok. I reinstalled Windows on both, didnt help.

However, when i run it with 128MB VGA and only half RAM (256MB), it does run properly. The mobo is new too, another one makes no difference. I really can't figure whats wrong, i replaced pretty much everything :dead:

Thanks a lot,
zenzei

Answer:Something wrong with my pc but cannot figure out what

Have recentley started getting the following error messages which is making stuff like Spybot Search & Destroy almost completely ineffectual.

"There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive\Device\Harddisk2\DR2."

I have the following options - Cancel, Try Again or Continue. Only Cancel seems to have any effect.

Any help you can provide would be great. Really struggling to work on the PC of late.

Thanks

My problem started with flash lagging. The lag kept getting worse over time for the same game, which was never updated recently. When I thought it was only lag in flash games that also caused the arrow keys to stick, when I connected to he network, I got a BSOD and it worked normally the second time around.

Can somebody help me figure out what is wrong?

Edit: My computer is only 9 months old.

Answer:[b]can You Figure Out What 's Wrong Here?[/b]

I'm wondering if the fact that AVG and Norton are both running at the same time is the problem.

2 anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause conflicts.

You also have ares which can leave a computer very vulnerable to infection.

I just edited this post because I realized I ran my scan with an older version of Hijack this. Here is the updated version and log.

I have a HP computer with window xp. Recently my computer has been getting worse and worse. It is constantly freezing up and also often comes us with messages saying there is not enough memory to complete the command. I also get error messages and other messages I don't understand. I have tried defragging the hard drive, ran a scan and repair hard drive all to no avail. I checked and have nearly 50% of the hard drive free.

Sometimes I just get a blue screen as well.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated during this holiday season. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Hello, my PC has been acting strange, and I can't seem to nail down what exactly the problem is. First, it seems to "stutter", or go unstable, or whatever you want to call it. The mouse will "stutter", or "drag".  I use to have around 60FPS in games I played, but now I'm down to about 5. It also takes forever to boot up Windows.Same with sound/music I'm playing, or videos, or games. It also takes FOREVER to install things. Files, games, etc. And it usually has a non stop beep, that sounds almost like an ambulance siren until I totally close down every program and just do nothing.I've tried to switch out my RAM, and I've ran a HD check, it had bad areas or something, but I think it fixed it. Not sure though.. could it be that? Also, I have Spybot, Avast anti virus, and Zone Alarm firewall. I run checks all the time, so it can't be a virus or spyware. System specs are:Windows XP Pro, SP 2Intel P4 3.20Ghz2GB of RAMAbit IC7-G MAX MotherboardNvidia GeForce FX 5900XT 200gb HDI forgot the sound card..I know this is an older PC, but it's been fine up until now Just trying to figure out what is wrong. Thanks

Answer:Need help with PC, can't figure out what is wrong.

Your computer seems to be what my friends and I call "tarded up".  Have you considered a reload of the OS?  Otherwise, I'd use msconfig to clear out some startup items.

Spybot, AntiSpyware (Beta), Norton AV can't find anything wrong. I don't see anything suspicsious on HJ log, but I'm not an expert.

The problem is that when running FireFox, I get multiple popups from internet explorer although not even open. Mostly casino and e-pilot popups (annoying as hell). Also, the hour glass repeatly blinks next to the cursor, and its driving me nuts.

Someone who knows what they are doing (obviously not me), please help!

Here is my HJ log.

Hi...

Please download Ewido Security Suite

Install Ewido Security Suite.
When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck: "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu"

To open the main screen double click the icon on the desktop.

You will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'.(only if no updated have first been installed) Click OK.

Update to the latest definition files. On the left of the main screen click Update. Then click on Start Update.Let it complete the updates.

Carry out this next part in Safe Mode

Now Click on Scanner and Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will start.

During some scans it may find cases of false positives so you will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.

If a file is detected you KNOW to be legitimate, select None as the action. Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'

If you are unsure of any entry found play safe and select None as the action.
Press the button marked Save Report

Save the report .txt file to your desktop or somewhere you can find it.Post it back with your next HJT log.

Here's the whole deal. The other day my computer(emachine W1800) turned on by itself and I proceded to turn it off. Then when I came next time to turn it on it failed. I figured it was the power supply that went badbecause it didn't have no juice whatsoever so I went ahead and changed the power supply but all it does is turns on the fans and the little light on the cd drive turns on but nothing else happens. I have all connected on a upc and surge protector and that day didn't have any power surges in the house. Please help, can't figure out what's wrong with it.

Thank you

I keep getting internet explorer running in the background and some sound file keeps playing. It pops up randomly through out the day and only goes away if i terminate the process. Also, I can't install AVG because there's some error that occurs while installing. I've attached a log of hijackthis. My computer keeps freezing from time to time and I have to turn it off and turn it back on for it to work.

Now my desktop wallpaper is "YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED!". Every time I start the computer, there is a pop up saying that I should run the anti-virus program and that my security risk is at 5 on a scale of 0-5. Also, I cannot access DDS and GMER. It says "Application cannot be executed. The file is infected. Please activate your antivirus software" every time I try to run it. The same happens for Malwarebytes.

Answer:Can someone figure out what is wrong?

Hello and welcome to TSF.

It's likely that the infection is preventing our tools from running. The following tool will help running them.

If you have an active internet connection, copy/paste the links below into your browser, don't click them or the rogue might redirect. If you don't have an active internet connection, download the tools from another machine, and transfer them to the affected machine via USB flash drive.

Please download and run the following tool to help allow other programs to run. (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com)

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one. You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Admin

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.exe
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.com
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.scr
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.pif

Note: You will likely see a message from this rogue telling you the file is infected. Ignore the message. Leave the message OPEN, do not close the message. Run rkill repeatedly until it's able to do it's job. This may take a few tries. You'll be able to tell rkill has done it's job when your desktop (explorer.exe) cycles off and then on again.

At this point, you should now be able to run analysis tools.

Once the tool has run, do NOT reboot the machine, and then try once again... Read more

Answer:help me...can't figure out whats wrong

Well, we may not get a "one shot fix" here, but we will, at the very least, learn what is ahead in step 2.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box where it says ?Turn off System Restore?. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it?s clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Make sure to close any open browsers you have. Check and fix the following in HijackThis (make sure not to miss any):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {63CF97E8-4133-438a-A831-CC9C6D47D673} - (no file)

Then please reboot back into normal mode and go here
and run the online virus scan. Please select the Autoclean option when prompted.

Then please reboot once more and post a new log.

Hi TSG and before I start I want to say thanks for the help and possibility you people offer.

Anyway today I encountered a weird problem with my Desktop. Win7.

Ill describe it step by step. Booting windows does not seem like a problem. No errors or weird stuff and everything goes well.. I get my home screen and some services start running and programs start up. But i get the feeling half way that process it stops.. My PC does not freeze but a couple of things arent working. First my internetconnection is weird. (it is working tested it with laptop.) But the blueish circle keeps spinning as if its making a connection.

This goes on forever.. and when I try to open network and sharing centre to see what its doing it opens up the center BUT explorer seems to hang (only in that window). Cant close it anymore, cant move it and the inside of the window is just white.. as if its empty.

Second the windows notification thingie (issues and such) tells me my Windows firewall is turned off. (Using AVGFree) but not as a firewall. When I try to turn my firewall on using the notification thing it seems to do nothing. When I go to Control panel --> Windows Firewall the same thing happens with the network center.

I figured it was explorer so rebooted the pc disconnected power and such but didnt help. + i can freely browse my folders on PC.

When I try to start firefox it appears in taskmanager but it does not come up. Google chrome or IE does work..
I hope this makes any sense..

Answer:Cant figure out whats wrong..Please help

Hiya Asara,

You say AVG is your security program, However you still have Norton Internet Security installed, that very fact will give the problems you mention.

If you are no longer using NIS do the following:

Download and install the Norton removal tool from Here

Alternative link

Install and run the tool, follow any prompts that are given. Make sure you re-boot when finished. Let me know how you get on.

Kevin.

today i was factory resetting my computer when it over heated in the middle and turned off when i turned it back on it freezes saying setup is starting services then a window pops up saying "windows could not finish configuring the system. to attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer."
i will love some help thanks

Answer:cant really figure out whats wrong

Generally, people do not reset PC to factory condition without a good reason. Might the reason(s) contributed to the failed reset?

Also, I had done a reset recently and one warning during the process was "the PC may be rebooted several times during the process". Did you inadvertently interrupt the process?

Finally, was there another attempt at reset? If so, did that fail?

So usually i'm pretty good with this thing, but this time I've ran out of ideas.

I was in the middle of replacing my graphics card when I tried to turn the thing on and got no response. I put the older one back in and I got the same response.... this black screen would come up and say "CMOS check bad"

Press 1 to load setup
Press 2 to load default settles
Press 12 to.... I dunno.

ANYWAYS, regardless of what I press, the computer will freeze. Pressing 1 does nothing, pressing 2 will load the computer, but the computer will be extremely laggy. And to test this, I decided to play WoW and it crashed hardcore with this LOUD staticy screeching in the speakers which wouldnt stop until I turned the computer off. And ever since, I couldn't get any response. Not even the old black screen. The monitor wont even respond, almost like there's graphics card.

For a little while when I managed to get the newer graphics card installd, the computer worked just fine. I managed to play WoW on it for about 3 hours without a single problem, it wasn't until I returned home that this started acting up again.

Hello cumbiamo and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It's clean. Let's use a different scanner to look a little deeper and if that doesn't show anything then we'll have you go over to the XP forum. I think it has more to do with the operating system than an infection.Download WinPFind35u.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named WinPFind35u on your desktop.Note: You must be logged on to the system with an account that has Administrator privileges to run this program.Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.Open the WinPFind3u folder and double-click on WinPFind35U.exe to start the program. In the Drivers section click on Non-Microsoft.Under Additional Scans click the checkboxes in front of the following items to select them:Reg - BotCheck

I hope this is the best place to put this. Something's been wrong with my computer lately... every time I scan with Norton Antivirus, it says I have an Adware file at

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\ CONFLICT 1\ bridge.inf

Or... something like that. I closed the window. Anyway, I look there, and I find nothing like that. There's not even a folder called CONFLICT.1.

So I ran a HijackThis scan. It didn't detect that Adware, though. Anyone who can help me? Here's my logfile:

Hi everyone
Here are the symptoms:
1- Sometimes the desktop does not automatically refresh itself. I mean when I add something new, like copy-pasting a file to desktop, the file does not appear on the desktop unless I manually right click and select Refresh.
2- About every 5 minutes (actually it varies every time), the PC gets really slow and after some seconds it automatically closes all of the folders (the running software remains untouched, tho). I suppose this happens only to desktop, because it does not happen
when I'm running a game.

What I did so far:
Windows is updated
All of the drivers are updated
I ran a full scan with Kaspersky
I Ran the error checking tool for the both disks, no problem found.
The Temp files are deleted
The disk page file is removed

PC specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 - 5700HQ CPU @ 2.70GHz
16.0 GB RAM

Answer:please help me figure whats wrong

To see if malware is the cause of your problems:

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

**** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

The computer i built probably a year and a half ago now has just recently been freezing like crazy. I have no idea why. First it would freeze like once or twice a day and now its up to about every 15ish mins that your on it. Its getting ridiculious and its not able to do anything serious on it cause it will freeze in the middle. I wouldn't be suprised if it does before i post this.

I scanned with a-squared, spy-ware S&D, AVG, and ad-aware and nothing out of the normal (tracking cookies and what not) and did a free mcafee scan and it found nothing.

Its an AMD 64 3000+ with 2 harddrives one 80 and one 120. All windows and program on one and music and whatnot on the other.

-AMD 64 3000+
-Radion 9800 pro 256 card
-2 hardrives one IDE and one the other thing i completly forget most everything computer related since i lost interest awhile back
-Gigabite MOBO. A nice one
-Windows XP home no service pack 2 i believe

Anyone know what it could possibly be? I cannot find anything wrong, but there clearly is.

Answer:Clearly something wrong that i cant figure out. Help Apreciated

since it seems to be happeneind more and more frequently, two things come to mind: overheating, or a dying peice of hardware.

are you getting a Blue Screen? if so, whats the error message on it?

some things to troubleshoot:

Try taking out all components and re-seating them, including RAM, Video card, any other cards, and IDE cables.

check temperatures. after the computer has been used, restart, enter the BIOS, and check the hardware monitoring section-- or use a Windows based utility to detect the motherboard sensors, like MBM http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=311

CPU should be under 50 C ideally. If its warmer, you may need to take of the heatisnk and re-apply thermal paste, and/or be sure your system has adequate cooling.

If you are running more than 1 stick of RAM, try running only 1 at a time, and alternating, this can rule out bad RAM. Also consider running Memtest http://www.majorgeeks.com/Memtest86_d4226.html

Let us know how the progress goes.

Hello, we have a Medion 3.0ghz computer with windows xp, 350 watt power supply, 1 gig ram, 160 gig hard drive, and a PCI express Radeon 128mb video card.

It is having issues of the display not turning on sometimes. The light on the computer comes on, but the monitor does not read a signal. We have tried a different monitor, we tried a different power supply, different video card, different ram, and a different hard drive. None of those fixed the problem. Most of the time when you try to turn it on, the display will not turn on, but sometimes it will turn on. When it turns on, it works fine until you turn it off and then usually it doesn't turn on again unless we try several times of turning the computer off and on.

Any suggestions on what could be causing this and how we could fix it?
Thanks!

I came across a site a couple of days ago that posted an advertisement as soon as I clicked on the site.  My computer has not been the same ever since.  I am still downloading files as fast as ever, but it's my browsing that has become horrid.  Pages happen to freeze up.  I have to click enter for the url twice most times just to get the page loaded.  I tried system restore and it says that it was not able to restore the system because windows could not extract a file which was in my temporary files.  The file was labeled as seUY.exe.  I am guessing it is a virus.  Has anyone heard of this file and if so how do I get rid of it?Thanks in advance.

For some reason today when I started booting up my laptop at work it keeps popping up with the BSOD with the following error code:
0x000000F4 (0x00000003,0x88945318,0x8994548c,0x805d1650)
This occurs repeatedly approximately 2 +/- 1 minutes after I get into Windows.

It didn't do this before, and nothing has changed (no installations or hardware changes) since yesterday. I did install Visual Studio Pro 2008 on Monday as well as a Intel(R) Fortran compiler, but neither of these caused any issues for all of Monday and Tuesday.

Here are the specs for the computer from dxdiag:

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1 build 2600)
System Manufacturer: Dell
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS Plus V1.10 A17
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Dual CPU T5300 @ 1.73 Ghz (2CPUs)
Memory: 2046 RAM
Page file: 640MB used, 3299 available
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c

Attached is a copy of the .dmp file from the windows/minidump dir.

Any help would be much appreciated.

My computer will freeze frequently. By "freezing", I don't mean programs stop responding or it gets overloaded. I mean the screen physically freezes in place and whatever sound was being made stutters (it goes da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da really fast with "da" being whatever note the song was on). Freezes usually last for about 10 minutes, then the computer will unfreeze.

The computer usually freezes when I'm running programs any more resource-hogging than a firefox, thunderbird, or word, though somethings the freezes are random. Freezing seems to occur more often if more computer resources are being used. When a freeze starts, the cpu fan spikes to near full speed and gets louder than normal. It stays that way and then calms as soon as the computer unfreezes.

When it freezes, the computer looses its wi-fi connection (through USB adapter) and I have to wait for it to re-connect. Also, when I click after unfreezing, sometimes it will act like I'm holding down CTRL or right-clicking, when I am in fact doing normal left-clicks. This problem will continue until I press CTRL and I right click.

Also, any keys I press during the freeze will all respond at once after the freeze. So if hit a bunch of keys on my keyboard during a freeze, I'll get that beeping sound from my motherboard like when you hold down a bunch of keys at once, when the computer comes back from its freeze.

Also, when it unfreezes, Windows time will start at the time it froze... Read more

Two thing come to mind, faulty memory stick or power pack on the way out.
Remove all memory bar one if that's no good exchange for a different one if after you've tried them all one at a time it still freezes on
to the power pack try another one if you can borrow one

hi
recently my computer started to act weird. it is basically slowed down. it freezes a lot, usually it goes away after a while. when i do scan or update with norton it always stops at the same point and makes weird noise. i have no idea what this could be... norton does not detect viruses (although i am not sure if it does updates correctly). spybot found DSO exploit, but did not succeed in removing it - next scans always show that this dso exploit is still there. i am not sure if this is the thing that screws up my computer. here is my hijack this log, i hope someone could help me and tell me what i can do... i would really appreciate your responses, i feel i am not going to make it on my own

I just recently got hired at a small business & the computer I inherited had the Security Tool virus, which I have removed (using the instructions at www.im-infected.com/rogue/security-tool.html), but I cannot figure out what else is wrong with it. The user before me apparently clicked on popups & opened all email & attachments, so who knows what or when this all went pear-shaped. The three clues I have are: CPU running fairly constantly; Internet explorer reported as not being used (in Add/Remove Programs) since 1/17/10, although it has been used every workday until last Thursday (2/4); and the webpage www.VistaPrint.com (a legitimate website that the prior user needs to get marketing materials ordered) permanently blocked no matter what program (Explorer, Firefox, Chrome) I use.
I'm also not entirely certain that MG Tools was able to run properly; it seemed to abort itself in less than 10 seconds.
NOTE: The computer crashed during my first MBAM scan, so I did it 2x. I hope this is okay; I have attached both logs.

When I plug in my power supply (this is without pressing the power button on my case) all the fans in the computer turn on also the hard disk LED is on but the power LED is not. The light on the motherboard that says it has power turns on. Nothing else happens and I have no idea what is causing this problem.

I tested the power supply and everything there seems good.
I switched the processor and MB and I still get the same result
Also tried a different power supply and still got the same problem
When this problem first happened the processor that was in the computer got fried

I have no idea what is wrong, any help would be great.

Hi Guys! It lasted almost 2 years to post again here, and I dont forget because here is so full of people who really are interested in solve computer problems, and these guys here are great, really know what they are talking about. I guessed that I could solve any tech problem with my PC simply by reformatting my HDs and start all over, but not good this time...
So, all started about a month when WinXP simply freezed up the screen, mouse cursor and the HD Led on my PC was solid red. I remember guessed at the time that was something more serious, because I am very used to get many BSODs (Microsoft's Blue Screen Of Death) per week, and if were nothing more serious, WindowsXP simply would go on check the consistency of one of the discs, pass thru that all ok, and things would continue normal (considering BSODs normal using XP). But not this time. Then I shut down and restarted it and all seemed ok, no prob, and I was using XP normally again. But then the same thing happened again, and again, and again... XP freezing completely, mouse cursor freezed up and HD Led solid red. Then I realized that the time of the freezes was getting closer and closer, till I was not able to enter Windows anymore, and at the start up I got many BSODs varying from Unknown Hard Error (never got this ) to Unmountable Boot Device. I got so many of these before, that I installed WinXP in my other HD, so that I could, using the other XP, solve the problem with the main one. But again, not this time.... Read more

Last year, right after turning my laptop ON, I've created 4 DVDs as such: http://i56.tinypic.com/6i79rn.jpg

Recovery DVD Disk 1
Recovery DVD Disk 2
Recovery DVD Disk 3
Windows Recovery Environment 64-bit

My Laptop is Qosmio F60-14R, with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Now all I want to do is format my laptop and re-install windows 7 Home premium using those 4 DVDs. However I can't figure out why I cannot re-install or get the laptop back to the factory state.

This have wasted 8 hours straight of my time and frustrated me by great deal. Can you kindly tell me what I have to do? I am lost!

Answer:Can't figure out what is wrong with recovery DVDs

Here is what I have done so far:
I inserted 'Windows Recovery Environment (64-bit)' DVD and booted the laptop from it.
First thing that loads up is a window with two options:
- Toshiba Recovery Wizard
- System Recovery Options

Taking Toshiba Recovery Wizard as choice, clicking Next.
It asks me: "Please set 1st Recovery Media and press Next to Continue.
So, I insert Recovery DVD 1 and then click Next. However it ejects the disc drive (seems Recovery DVD 1 is not the correct Disk!).

So I repeat the same process with Recovery DVD 2 and Recovery DVD 3 and again the Disk Drive ejects the Disks.... As a desperation attempt I even put the Windows Recovery Environment Disk inside but that as well get ejected.

Okay, so the Toshiba Recovery Wizard is not the right choice 'it seems'.

So, I restart the laptop and inserted 'Windows Recovery Environment (64-bit)' DVD and booted the laptop from it.
First thing that loads up is a window with two options: (First choice failed, now trying second choice)
- --Toshiba Recovery Wizard--
- System Recovery Options

So, choosing System Recovery Options this time and clicking Next. I Choose US as Keyboard, then click Next. A small window appears which gives me two further options:
- Use Recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows. Select an Operating System to repair.
- Restore your computer using a system image that you created earlier.

So, I already tried the first choice and it takes me to anot... Read more

Ok well first off I have attched a DxDiag and two hijackthis files. The first Hijack this file is when most processes are running and the second is when I have closed as many things on the taskbar as possible without it becoming inconvenient.

Now here is the problem, when playing World of Warcraft I normally run at about 120 frames per second. I am not sure if the computer specs I entered when registering show up in this post so I will just add that I have a 2.4ghz core 2 duo, 4 gigs of ram, and an 8800GTX.

Now this should be more than enough to run WoW at max settings comfortably, and it usually is. The problem I am experiencing is at seemingly random intervals my computer will become extremely bogged down. The frame rate will drop to well below 30fps sometimes hitting as low as 5fps. This will happen even if I turn the settings all to low. When this first started happening I thought that perhaps my virus scanner was turning on during game play but this wasn't the issue. I have tried closing any and all programs running in the background and it doesn't seem to fix the issue.

Usually the only way to temporarily fix this is to restart my computer as even if I restart World of Warcraft the problem persists. Once the computer has been restarted the game usually runs fine for a few hours though sometimes it happens again right away. I recently cleaned out my case to make sure it wasn't over heating as well.

Now this isn't a problem I have always had. W... Read more

My acer laptop also shuts down when I try running any programs that take much of a process. The virus scans have been clear, but I don't know why it would just shut down all of a sudden if there weren't a virus on it. Also when I startup it says that a lot of the files I try to run or unreadable. I can't do much of anything on it at all right now. I have disk 1, disk 2, and disk 3 of the aspire 3000/5000 series recovery cd's, but when I try to run them and enter the BIOS setup to change the boot options to cd-rom drive and save the changes, it still boots to windows, and when I boot to windows and try to run it by clicking the cd drive nothing comes up except for folders, there is no automatic start button. So I'm not sure what to do. Also as they had said...maybe my computer is overheating? I've only had it since December 2005, but still very hot air is blowing out. I'm not sure if this is causing a problem or not. But I can't seem to find any help on this problem or what may be wrong with the computer, any ideas please reply. Thank you.

I used this site's excellent tutorial How to Do a Repair Install to Fix Windows 7 (for which I am extremely grateful!)

The repair install failed at the end, but it only gave some extremely vague error message which is of exactly zero value in determining what went wrong!

I can boot up with a variety of bootable USBs I have that will allow me to examine the drive, but I have no idea what to look for or where to look for it.

Can anyone help me with this, please?

Thanks!

Answer:How to figure out what went wrong with Win7 Repair Install?

This is really more complicated than its worth when you consider that you can have a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which compiles the best Win7 install in the world, in about half the time it will take to sort the Repair INstall failure.

However if you want to try then refer to the Panther folder logs shown in this KB to see what the last failure events are during Setup: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/927521

Hello, tech people! Here is my problem:

I am trying to connect to my roommates router (and the Internet). When I run a cable into my network card it says I am connected but I can't go on-line. Then I bought a wireless router and tried to connect that way and I am having the same problem. The network card recognizes that there is a connection but I still can't go on-line. My roommate's computer and laptop are both connecting fine (one is using a cable and the other is wireless).

I talked to tech guys from both the wireless network card company and the router company. The network card guy said it was the router and the router guy said it was my computer. Neither of them knew WHAT exactly was wrong. The last thing the router guy was having me do was to try and renew my ip address but that wasn't working because I couldn't get a signal from the router.

Interesting note: When I was messing around trying to reset the modem and router and my computer I got an error message saying that something was wrong and if I wanted to send Microsoft a report. I clicked on YES and it acted like it sent the report OK. So it sounds like I can send stuff but that I just can't receive it.

What am I doing wrong? What can I do to fix this? I'm kind of a newbie as far as networking goes but I usually can solve any problems I have had in the past by myself.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read this!!!

Hi

I got a new laptop just over a month ago and ever since I've been having an odd problem with the internet connection. It's not all the time - it seems to happen at completely random times but it is very annoying now!

I first noticed it when I downloaded Dropbox and Chrome installers.  (they're both the kind where you download a small .exe file then they connect to download the full installer) both reported that I wasn't connected to the internet and couldn't continue with the installation.  I'm also having problems with iTunes downloading App updates and iOS updates.  Itunes reports that there is no network connection or the download becomes corrupt because there was no response from the server. I downloaded the Box sync app but can never get it to sign in because it is saying there may be a connection issue.

I'm also having problems sometimes loading websites, it'll be working fine one minute then all of a sudden I'll try to load a page and will get a page saying that there was an issue and to try reloading - that usually solves the problem but I'm at a loss as to what might be causing this to happen.  There's also a problem with connecting when I try to check for solutions to problems via the Action Center.

I've tried pausing my security software but that doesn't help ,the WiFi signal on my laptop is always on full, my broadband speed is very good and I'm not getting a problem when connected to WiFi on my iPad so I'm thinki... Read more

Answer:Something wrong with internet connection on new laptop - can't figure it out

Given that you have no connection problems with your iPad, it does seem likely that the problem is with your laptop.

Given that it is just over a month old, I would not try investigating inside the case as this is likely to invalidate your warranty. Known problems that can occur with internal wi-fi units include faulty fitting of the wi-fi sub-unit, faulty aerial connections to the unit, and plain simple failures of the unit - any and all of which would be good for a warranty claim.

There is a fairly easy way to test whether or not it is your internal wi-fi unit, and that is to try a USB wi-fi dongle. If you can't borrow one for an evening, prices start at about £ 15 - 20 in the UK. If you get solid connectivity with a dongle then you have very good grounds for going back to your supplier and complaining.

First off I posted in this section cause I couldn't find a better section that met my problem's characteristics. And also I'm not computer-illiterate, I've got over 5 years of computer science classes under my belt.

Ok so my problem is that my desktop computer keeps losing internet... not in a all connection is lost and I have to restart the modem, more of a the internet randomly decides to slow to a crawl for a few seconds and the only way to fix it temporarily is to disable the network device in the Network Connections folder. But it keeps getting more and more frequent and its really driving me up a wall!

My setup is a network modem that I bought myself (After trying to replace the one cox gave me) a then connected to a linksys router, then a wire stray to the desktop.

I tried doing some troubleshooting to no avail. I tried cutting out the modem and doing a direct line from the modem to the desktop but I still got the same problem, and I know its not the router or the modem because my wireless items (especially my laptop) have no signs of this problem at all!

So all the only conclusions I could come to is that its either a hardware problem (IE somethings wrong with the Ethernet socket on my motherboard) or a software issue! But how can I truly find out what it is and finally fix this annoyance... ?

PLEASE HELP!

Hi, I'm looking for some help figuring out what is wrong with a laptop I bought.

It is a Cybercom MD5958, it had Windows XP installed but it wouldn't boot, I would get the BSOD.

I booted up from the Windows XP disc, I get to the part where I am to create a partition ( I previously deleted the old one in Acronis Disk Director), when I press C to do so the computer reboots.

If I boot into Acronis Disk Director and manually create an NTFS partition, set it active, then boot from the Windows XP disc, I press enter to install onto that partition and it gets stuck almost immediately after that at the part where it says "examining disk id <numbers> bus <numbers> MBR . Sometimes it will reboot instead of freezing.

I have also tried installing several Linux distros, they all freeze early on and I can't tell what part it is that it freezes at.

I have scanned the entire HD thoroughly with HDD Regenerator and it says there are no errors.

My thought is maybe the HD is dodgy? But HDD Regenerator said the thing is squeaky clean. Maybe it's an MBR problem?

What I plan on trying tomorrow (it's bed time now) is creating a FAT32 partition and installing windows 98.

I also plan on deleting the MBR, to see if that makes any difference.

does anyone have any ideas on what this could be, or any suggestions for me to try.

I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Answer:I bought a dodgy laptop. Let's figure out what's wrong with it

Have you got any spare RAM to try in it? Any amount will prove the point--even 512MB.

Hello guys,

Recently got some problem with a some trojans, I ran the guide, and I attached the logs (I wasn't able to run rootrepeal).

I'm not having any problems at the moment, but I just want to make sure that everyting is clean.

thanks in advance!

-Steven

Answer:Just to make sure everyting is clean

Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)

Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
"%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall

Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
Go to add/remove programs and unins... Read more

Hi,

Please help my laptop just won't boot any more.

Its a HP Compaq 6710b with 4gb of memory running Vista Business OWEMact.

The laptop was working perfectly up until this morning. Last night I let it go into sleep mode as i usually do. This morning i can down and just closed the laptop screen. Later I opened the lid and pressed the power button as normal to get to the login screen as normal.

The laptop seemed to be doing what it usually does and I walked away. After a few mins I returned and entered my password and hit <enter> At this point it appeared to be starting to load up as normal but it just never got to the desktop.

So, evenutally, not being able to do anything else, I pressed and held the power button to do a reboot.

Now, It refuses to boot all the way to the desktop.

When I press power on the "Microsoft Corportation" and green time bar is displayed, the wireless light comes on on the laptop, the disk light is flashing away. I then even get a mouse pointer which i can move. Then the screen goes black/blank, the disk light continues to flash for about 30 seconds and stops. Then nothing happens. I have waited for up to 30 mins and nothing happens.

I then booted the laptop and hit F8 and went to "Repair my Computer" and then "Startup Repair" and ran that. It reported that it couldn't find any problems.

I then tried to reboot the laptop again and still it won't boot.

I then went back to F8 and went for "Saf... Read more

When windows boots up it ask to log into the notebook. I have only one user on the computer, so I would like it so that it just boots into that one user instead of asking for a password . Is that possible?

Answer:User Password everyting time it boots

Are you talking about the Windows Logon Screen password or your Notebook's password?

If it is Windows logon password. You have to go to control panel and double click on the user accounts icon.

There you will see your icon and possibly Guest account.

Double click your Icon and look for the password area, the object is to rename the password and do not put anything in where it asks for new password. Leave it blank.

Click apply and exit.

Hi ,

I have noticed over the last week that everything on my pc has started to open and run slowly, Internet explorer in particular seems to take ages to open initially. I have run scans with AVG, Spybot, Ad-Aware Se, and A Squared, along with CWS and Trend Micro's online scanner and nothing seems to be out of order there. I defragment my hard disk regularly and clear out any clutter from the registry using Winoptimizer 3 and Registry Mechanic. I have Service Pack 2 installed and regularly check for updates.

My computer is about 3 years old, and although only a 1.8MHz processor has always run relatively smoothly and quickly enough for my needs, now things take ages to open.

I'm not sure if I'm right, but when I installed IE7 and then had to remove it because of the HP Director conflict (the work around available didn't work), IE6 seemed slower to start once reinstalled. I tried Firefox2 which I liked but that seemed to take even longer to open.

I noticed that it seems the thing to do to post HJT logs so mine follows.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions as to why thing are slowing down. Thanks in advance

ps. A squared always seems to find something called HackerWacker which it then proceeds to delete for it to be there again next time. I think this is a false positive, at least i hope so..

pps. Also, if there is anything that I don't need showing up in the HJt log please let me know.

Last night I was installing the 10158 upgrade. At the second restart, the boot screen (gigabyte) came in blue, and the entire process continued in blue. When the installation completed, the desktop came with a blue tint, too. Everything went blue there.

A clean reinstall of the 353.30 WHQL (which was already installed) made the things back to normal. No issue since then.

I am wondering what that may mean. Is my graphics card (it is old, for sure; 450 GTS. As I dont game and it works without any issue, I did not upgrade it) not supporting windows 10? Or it is started to failing?

EDIT: Just noticed 10159 notification.... Let me see how it goes.

Answer:Everyting wemt blue during 10158 upgrade.

Everything went fine during the upgradation to 10159, no graphics glitches.

I want to expect that it was just a mishap, and my graphics card is not failing.

was something stupid like a driver some help would awesome

Answer:out no where Bsod hoping to figure out whats wrong hoping it

Hi cowboy5345.

The crash dump is not pointing to anything clearly, but it gives a hint of a memory corruption. It either may be a failing physical RAM, or it may be some driver passing bad information toe the memory.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

If it does not show any error, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

If you fail to get on the Desktop because of DV, Boot into Advanced Boot Options > Safe mode. Disable DV there. Now boot normally again, and try following the instruction of en... Read more

whats the differnece bettween a wired router and wired switch . ethernet?

Answer:wats the difference

A router is a device that forwards data packets along networks. In home networks the router is given the IP addy assigned by your ISP and then distributes IP addy's to the terminals connected to network -- most commonly with DHCP.

A switch works much the same way, without the IP address control.

Answer:wats the right thing to do?

Hello,

Simple answer...it's entirely up to you!!!

Do as you please... .

But if I were you, I'd just do the format anyways! Saves hassle, and probably prevents me from possibly being attacked by suspected computer stealing guy .

Answer:Wats Happening To My Computer? Help!

Your system is terribly infected. Problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show. Also, I can't promise you we can repair all the damage it caused... Even after cleaning the malware, you can still get errors afterwards because of the damage. Solving these is not always possible since it will be searching for a needle in a haystack to find the right cause and solution. So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused. In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start. Reason I am telling this is because when a system is so terribly infected and we try to clean this up manually, the damage that is already present may interfere with our removal attempts. One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan. This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute filesI would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords wh... Read more
