Outlook 2007 - how to re-create default pst folder

Question: Outlook 2007 - how to re-create default pst folder

While opening some external pst folders in Outlook 2007 I somehow managed to change the default personal folders file outlook.pst to another pst folder file that I created called myemails.pst
Every time I started Outlook the Personal Folders would load myemails.pst folder by default instead of outlook.pst
I tried to solve the problem by deleting myemails.pst and I reinstalled Office 2007 suite hoping that Outlook 2007 would be forced to load or re-create the default personal folders file outlook.pst but instead the new installation will not start up at all because it is looking for myemails-pst which no longer exists.
How can I re-install Office 2007 with some kind of switch to instruct it to do a completely fresh install of Outlook 2007 and not carry over any personal settings from the previous installation?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey there, mates.

Got this small issue, and can't find an answer. Sorry in advance if it's lame.

I have a setup with Windows 7 Pro and Outlook 2007 Pro. When receiving emails with attached emails and saving those attachments, Outlook always goes to a default folder (Say %userprofile%\Documents). Is there a way to force Olk2007 to point to last location an attachment was saved to? I thought it might be W7 issue, but couldn't get through on that front either. Ideas?

TIA!

I use outlook 2007 for IMAP Gmail, and I have changed the default startup folder to Gmail inbox. However, whenever I received a new mail notification and I click it on, it goes to the default personal inbox folder. Is there anyway to change this action so when I click on new mail notification, it will bring me to Gmail's inbox instead of personal inbox?

Thanks,
CW.

Hi:

I copy a lot of documents as I research. They all have different titles (obviously) and I file them in different document folders according to subject (i.e. Plot, Character Development, Pacing, etc.). I also print them out and put them in notebooks with similarly designated tabs. For ease of reading, I like to put my own title (or sometimes the author's, if it's short enough) followed by the page number in the header on the right. It looks like this:
Hero's Fatal Flaw, Page 4
To make this happen, I currently:
1. Go to Insert
2. Click Page #
3. Click Top of Page
4. Scroll down to Plain #3
5. Click Plain #3
6. Click in the Header
7. Click Control V to enter my text or manually enter it. (Sometimes, if I've planted the cursor just right, I can position the text in front of the page number; otherwise, it ends up left aligned and I have to go through additional steps on the Home tab to right align it. In this case, I also have to delete the extra line that's gratuitously thrown in at the end.)
8. Hit Back Arrow to position the cursor after the last character (for some reason, an extra space is also gratuitously put in)
9. Type , space Page
10. Click Close Header/Footer or Double Click in the document

Doing all these steps on hundreds of documents really takes its toll. There must be a way to streamline it and create some sort of template across multiple documents.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Any help much appreciated.
Jane

Answer:Word 2007 How to Create Default Pg # Header in Multiple Docs?

Create a new Word template, perform steps 1 through 6 the Save As a .dotm file, because page numbering is considered a Macro so your template must be Macro enabled.
So you will create a new document using that template, when it opens you will just type in your custom text and complete the remainder of the steps. Probably someone who is slick with VBA can write the macro so that it will ask for the custom text and once you submit, it will automate the rest of the steps for you.

User came in with a receiving email issue and to make a long story short I found that his inbox and all subfolders including sent, junk ect. are subfolders of the trash folder.(deleted Items) I tried to back up, clean(glary utils) and reinstall but the backup reordered the folders the way they were. I will uninstall again and hand build the folders and subs if need be but I was hoping someone here might know a fix before I spend 2 or more hours creating and moving from imported folders (home based company with 33000+ emails)

Any ideas appreciated.

Also noteworthy is that Norton failed after the hearbleed patch and had to be completely removed and reinstalled. the reinstallation of Norton was AFTER trying to repair Outlook.

I had a macro in Outlook XP that entered a certain amount of text and formatted it.  We use it in most of our emails and immediately run it when creating a new email.  It worked fine.  (For what it is worth, I copied it into a Word 2007 macro and it worked fine there also).I cannot figure out to create this macro in Outlook 2007.  I went to trust center and enabled all macros with no security at all.I went to Tools, Macros, Visual Basic Editor.  In the top left box I created a new module and pasted in the text of the macro.  But now I cannot figure out how to run it in a new email.  In a newly created macro there is no tool option to call up a macro.I try to run it within the visual basic editor, but I get an error message that says macros in this project are disabled and refers me to online help for how to enable macros. How do I create a macro that I can run upon opening a new email that is to be sent?If it matters at all, the text in the macro is:Sub EmailProtocol()'' EmailProtocol Macro' Macro recorded 8/22/2006 by Gisele Prive'    Selection.InsertDateTime DateTimeFormat:="d-MMM-yy", InsertAsField:=False, _         DateLanguage:=wdEnglishUS, CalendarType:=wdCalendarWestern, _        InsertAsFullWidth:=False    Selection.TypeText Text:="  "    Selection.InsertDateTime DateTimeFormat:="HH:mm", InsertAsField:=Fals... Dim mess_body as string
Set appOutLook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
Set MailOutLook = appOutLook.CreateItem(0)
mess_body = "here's where I put the body of the email"

.Subject = "Catalog Page Proofs"
.Body = mess_body & .Body

There are apparently several ways to create signatures in Outlook 2007. One from Tools, Options, Mail Format, Signatures (which in my case does nothing); one from New Message, Signature, Signatures (which also does nothing); one from New Message, Insert, Signature, Signatures (which also does nothing). There are probably more ways that do not work, but these are the three I have found thus far.
From Tools, Options, Mail Format, the Signature button exists, but clicking it does not open the Signatures and Stationery dialog box.
In both other cases, Signature, Signatures does not open an email signature tab. It does nothing.
I'm using Outlook 2007 (12.0.6541.5000) SP2 MSO (12.0.6535.5002)

I'm using Outlook 2007 and I can't figure out how to create a rule that sends all emails from a specific domain to a specific folder. Below is an example of the rule I created:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
from exampledomain.com
move it to the exampledomain folder
In addition to exampledomain.com in the example above, I've also tried @exampledomian.com and *@exampledomain.com. None of them work. Is what I'm trying to do even possible?

Hi there,

I have run into a huge problem. A client of mine wants to have a header and a footer that he can use as stationery through outlook. I have the 2 images designed already but am unsure how to set this up for him. Basically, he wants the header at the top (with html) then a space and a footer at the bottom. These images must also be able to resize themselves in accordance with the users screen etc. (If that makes any sense).

If ANYONE can help me out, I'd really appreciate it. Have been searching the net all morning with no luck.

Sam.

Answer:Solved: Create New Stationery in Outlook 2007

Ay carumba. Don't you love assignments like this?

Welcome to the forum Sam.

If it were me, I'd create an HTML table with a row for the header, a row for the client to type in, and a row for the footer. That should be relatively simple to do and will give him an expanding amount of space to type, as opposed to guessing how much room he might need.

But for the image resizing? I'm sure there are others who know better than me, but I'm not sure you can get there from here. Unless these are emails he's only sending internally, it's impossible to know what email client the users will use - they may not even SEE the picture based on how they have their settings configured. And that doesn't even begin to address people who just get their messages through their online email or on their phones. And Outlook 2007 completely changed the way Office used to deal with HTML and CSS, so that's fun too. In the HTML emails I've created, the images don't resize so if the window is too small you get a scroll bar. I'm ok with that, but if your client isn't, maybe you can send him this article. If nothing else, it might make him understand that it's not as easy as it seems like it should be. Good luck!

I want to create Contact groups in Office 2007 outlook. My system is running windows 8.1 new machine.

Answer:How do I create groups in outlook 2007 with windows 8.1

I presume you have already a (default) contact group in your Outlook (under "Contacts"). Navigation pane is open.Assuming under "My Contacts" there is a folder "Contacts", If you select/click "Contacts" all stored/added contacts will be displayed. From the menu: "File" > "New" > select "New Folder" and enter a meaningful name of the new contact list to be created. Create or copy contacts in the newly created list. Now there are 2 folders containing a list of contacts with the group "My Contacts"To create a new group of contact lists click the blue line "Add New Group". A contact-group called "New group" is added. Rename if needed. For some reason I could not create a new folder in the New Group.Drag an existing folder (contacts list from the existing contact group) to the "New Group".Now you have 2 Contact groups with one or more contact lists.

i have try this option 1. Use REGEDIT.EXE to locate the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security
(Note: Depending on your version you may have to modify that path after the "Office" key. You may have folders 8.0, 9.0, 10.0, 11.0, go the highest number. This is probably the version that you use.)

2. Modify the Key "OutlookSecureTempFolder", by replacing "Temporary Internet Files" with "Temp".
For example:

OLD VALUE: "C:\Documents and Settings\sreed.dsa\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK177\"
(Note: There may be a different number than 177)

NEW VALUE: "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp\OLK177\"

3. Restart Microsoft Outlook.

Hello all:

First time poster.

In the folder/tree view on the left in Outlook 2007 (Windows XP Pro) the Contacts folder is not showing up.

In Outlook 2003, it was right there underneath Calendar, which, by the way, is also missing from the Folder/Tree view.

I can access my Contacts via the big tab at the bottom but I want the tree/folder view as it broke up the hierarachy very nicely.

Any ideas?

Thanx in advance,

--d.

Answer:Outlook Contacts not showing up in Tree/Folder view (Outlook 2007)

Use "Folder List" view to see all of your folders in a single list. Either click the little folder icon in the Navigation Pane on the left-hand side or click Go | Folder List in the Menu Bar.

I am new to this forum so I'm not sure if I am posting this in the correct area.

My question is with Outlook 2007. I am a big proponent of keeping important e-mail AND keeping them filed in the appropriate folders. Every time I make a new folder, Outlook automatically groups the files by date. As I keep my old e-mails in folders, it is infuriating to constantly go back and un-check the little box in the "Customize Current View" dialog box.

IS THERE ANY WAY TO SET THE DEFAULT VIEW SO IT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY GROUP MY E-MAIL? I have searched everywhere and cannot find anything to change this!!!!

Please help!!! This is driving me crazy!!!!!!

Hi

I am in the process of switching from Outlook Express to Outlook 2007.

I have several accounts set up and have set the default which works OK when sending a new email (though without clicking the down arrow on "Accounts" there is no way of telling which account is being used; it would be nice if there is some way to indicate this automatically)

My real problem is that when I reply to an email I want the from account to be the one I have set as the default account. At the moment it uses the from account "[email protected]", as that is where my Outlook is being told to retrieve emails from. I use runbox to filter emails.

Can this be done? Why would it not use the default account?

Any thoughts welcome.

Ever since I got Office 2007, I’m not able to create a new email message from another program.
For example, if I select a file in Explore and click ‘E-mail this file’, nothing happens. It used to automatically pop up a new Outlook email message. This happens in another program as well. I can create new emails fine while in Outlook. Microsoft Exchange Server is set up as the default email type, which was the first thing we checked when this problem started. Not sure if this issue is with Outlook 2007 or Windows XP.
Hopefully this is enough info. Thanks in advance.

Because the fine folks at MS screwed up?

Here is some information on the MS web site that may help you out

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913843

WORKAROUND
If you cannot configure a default gateway for your network settings, you can work around this problem by adding a DWORD value that is named DefConnectOpts to the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\RPC
Not sure if you are using Exchange Server or if the fix will work if you are not using Exchange Server.

It would be set for every time you composed an email.

With Outlook 2007, I can figure out how to do this one email at a time, but how do I set it to default to this theme (only when I am looking at it... I dont want other people to get blue backgrounds)

Welcome to the forum. I am Ricardo Montabon and this is Tatu. He will babble something about de plane de plane.

It is actually a Word option and not Outlook. You were probably using Word to edit -mail messages before. I have not used office 2007 for a bit, but you can click on the drop-down arrow next to the "Quick-Items" bar (toolbar with save etc on it) and there should be a "customize quick items bar" option or something to that extent. Look around in there and you can customize the setting if it is still in Word 2007. I am sorry I am being so vague, but I have not used 2007 for months.

Anyone know how the change the "default inbox" that is linked to the Desktop Alerts?

I have 3 different email addresses (all POP accounts), all residing under the same profile. I created separate .PSTs for each address, and therefore they each have their own inbox/outbox/sent items/deleted items folders. My primary email address is linked to the "Personal Folders" .PST, and is set as the default account for sending mail. However, the Desktop Alerts that keep appearing are from one of my secondary accounts, an email addy that I only use for online shopping and therefore receives tons of ads and spam.

Needless to say, I want to be alerted when emails come to my main account, not when Best Buy or Old Navy sends me their spam of the day. So how do I change which inbox is linked to the Desktop Alerts?

Thanks!!

Hello. If I select Date from the "Arranged By" field in Outlook 2007, it sorts by the date each message was received. I know that I can sort by the sent date by clicking on "Custom", then under Sort selecting Sent. This is a pain to go through all of this, however, since Outlook reverts back to the received date every time I sort by something else or search for an email, etc. I'd like to know if there is a way I can change Outlook so the default date sort is the sent date instead of the received date. I'm fine with editing the registry and what-not if need be.

Thanks in advance,

I have a user running Outlook 2007 on an XP Pro machine. This user likes her email sorted by the Date. The problem is she will be in her inbox and it is sorted by Date, then she will go to her sent items folder and then back to her inbox. When she gets back into her inbox the emails are sorted by Name and she has to resort them everytime. Is there a way to change the default sorting to always sort by date?

A.

Answer:Solved: Default Sorting in Outlook 2007

Hi agarrity

Check the custom views: View > Current View > Define Views
Click each view to see its Sort setting. Perhaps one of the Custom Views is being applied, though that normally requires user interaction.
Try Resetting the view:
Right click one of the column headers and select: Customize Current View
Click: Reset Current View

Sort the messages by preference then test to see if the sort setting is retained.
Let us know if that helps or not.
If it does not, let us know of any other steps you have taken. Such as creating a new profile.

this message is just an annoyance. I click ok and the client works fine. I've gone through internet options; add/remove programs and set the default email to outlook. How do I go about setting up a 2nd personal folder under Microsoft Outlook 2007 so I all my email related to work (inbox, sent items, etc) can stay there.

I have installed Office 2007 (I am still running Windows XP) and want to use Outlook 2007 as my default mail. I am running Outlook Express at present. I followed Microsoft's instructions to import all my folders across but when I tried to import account name and account settings from Outlook Express under the Import and Export facility in Outlook I clicked Import Internet Mail Account Settings and then Next but received a message saying there were no other Internet accounts. My mail is still only being sent and received from Outlook Express. When I open Outlook 2007 it asks if I want to make it my default and I clicked yes but my mail is still only being sent and received from Outlook Express. Can you advise how I make Outlook 2007 my default mail account?
Hope this all makes sense!
Thx

Okay, I finally gave in and upgraded my Yahoo! mail to Yahoo! Plus because I need to have all my e-mail accounts managed by my Outlook 2007. Company e-mail uses Microsoft Exchange. I added the POP3 account and all went well for the initial deliveries. The Exchange account is the default sending e-mail and all new Exchange e-mails get sent to the Exchange Inbox *.OST file.

I need the POP3 e-mails to default to the Inbox in the *.PST folder. I keep re-setting the default delivery folder for the POP3 to the PST inbox in accordance with the Outlook 2007 instructions. Check it after I close the Accounts window and it shows that it should direct to the PST folder. The next time Outlook does a "Send/Receive," all the e-mails, both Exchange and POP3, get delivered to the Exchange folder.

I revisit the Account Settings and see that the POP3 account has been re-set to deliver to the Inbox in the *.OST folder.

This is annoying, especially because when the POP3 e-mails arrive in the Exchange Folder, they get syncronized to the Exchange Host and then they get "double-delivered" to my Blackberry. UGH. Not to mention that I don't want my POP3 personal e-mails mingling with my company server.

HELP!!!

Thanks in advance,

Richard

Answer:Outlook 2007 Keeps Resetting POP3 Default Inbox

Okay fellow hacks, my solution was so simple it SHOULD have slapped me in the face. Whenever you make a default file location change in Outlook, you need to exit and restart Outlook in order for it to take effect. If you don't do that right away, the change to the default file location won't survive.

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. I often schedule appointments with customers by sending an Outlook appointment request. What I have found is that Outlooks defaults all appoints to be "recurring" weekly with no end date. I find this very annoying and it is even difficult, sometimes impossible, to remove the recurrence. Does anyone know of a way to change the default to be one-time events? I've searched the Outlook help menu with no luck.

Thanks,

The Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) should be located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 (this last number could be different, depending on your Locale), or in :\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12

To run it, see the instructions at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/o...tlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA010075831.aspx

Hi all... Recently made the upgrade to Outlook 2007 in our Citrix farm. Experiencing this issue with non-Admin personnel:

Outlook could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable.

That being said, very little is found on the internet. The few solutions we have found have not worked. The user has read/write access to the folder where the temp directory is held, read/write to the temp internet files folder, and the system variables all point in valid locations with proper access for non-Admin users.

Anyone care to throw a bone out at this one?

TIA!

Hi there

I am having a problem that when I create a new folder it inherits the properties of my send folder and not of my inbox.

Anyone know how I can fix this?

I know how to copy the design of the Inbox to overwrite the wrong folder, but this is a pain everytime I create a new folder.

*NOTE* I am running XP and Office 2000 I am very happy with these so please DO NOT recommend that I upgrade. Thank you. *NOTE*

When I try to create the folder this comes up every time(please see attached image):

These are the instructions from here:

Create a New Personal Folder
To finish the process you need to define a new personal folder for the user. To do this, use the following steps:
On the File menu, point to New, and click Personal Folders File (.pst).
Type the name of the new Personal Folder. Verify and change the file location if necessary. Click Create. Note Do not use the name mailbox.pst.
Verify and change the information if necessary, and then click OK.
If the Folder List does not appear, on the View menu, click Folder List.
Right-click the new Personal Folders, click "Properties for <Personal Folders>", and click "Deliver POP mail to this personal folders file," click OK.
On the File menu, click Exit. Restart Outlook.
In the Folder List, right-click the Personal Folders not associated with Outlook Today, click Properties, click Advanced, and verify that the path of this file is different than the one you created in step 2. Click OK twice to close the dialogs.
In the Folder List, right-click the Personal Folders not associated with Outlook Today, and click Close "Personal Folders Name."

Step 2 is the one that crashes Outlook. Is there a patch to get around this error?

In the CONTACTS section of Outlook 2007 there are various default settings that I don't like. But I don't find options to change them.
1.
The main one is that the address box LOOKS as ONE field, but is in fact a collection of invisible fields: Street, City, State, Zip, Country. What you type in that big box is sometimes unclear to Outlook, then it pops up an edit box with all the separate fields. Sometimes there WAS already a (default) Country/Region in the box and then the result of a printed address could be: John Johnson, 1st Street 1, LA, CA 98765, USA, The Netherlands.
I would prefer to see the 'split' address view by default. How?
And if it is not possible, how can I force Outlook to show the split box when I need it?
2.
The same address box has two options, business and home. Business is shown by default, so often I type private addresses in the wrong box - with confusing results when grouping, printing etc.
Can BOTH the Home AND the Business address box be displayed at the same time?
If not possible, then can I instruct Outlook to display the Home box by default?
3.
Similar problem with the Email box. I always have to use the dropdownlist to see/edit/use a 2nd or 3rd email. In this time where many people have several email addresses, at least 2 of them should be visible by default in the standard view.

In Outlook 2007 Calendar, the default reminder time is 15 minutes. That is, Outlook will remind you of each appointment 15 minutes in advance.

In Tools\Options..., I've tried to set the default reminder time to a shorter interval. But no matter what I set it to--10 minutes, 12 minutes, 5 minutes--Outlook keeps reminding me of each appointment 15 minutes in advance.

In Tools\Options..., there's a checkbox called "Default Reminder:" Whether I check it or leave it unchecked has no effect on the reminder time either--Outlook keeps reminding me of each appointment 15 minutes in advance.

Any ideas what could be happening here?

I'm going insane, and just spent 35 minutes in chat w/MS, to no avail. I am on a clean install of Win10, with a new install of Office 365 with Outlook. Earlier today, a MS tech remotely set up my 3 Outlook accounts. Then she tried to import merge data from my .pst backups. Had problems...something to do with POP and IMAP and other things I don't understand. She ended up adding my external back-up drive as another data source, so I have two XXXX's Folder structures in my new email account. One from My PC and one from the back-up drive. I have been manually copying stuff from the backup folders to the new folders. It's a real pain, but it's working...and I have my data.

My (what I thought was SIMPLE) question was this: In the "new account" data (allegedly NOT from backup drive), I have, for instance, a Trash folder, a Junk folder, a Junk Mail folder and a Junk Email folder. I also have Sent, Sent Items and Sent Mail . All I want to know is what are the default folder names for this version. I'm sure that somewhere, that I can't find, is something that says that the "former Junk folder is now named Trash" or something like that. I just want to get rid of the multiple folders. Is that too much to ask?

Hi - this is probably a very basic question (and the answer may be obvious) but when I open Outlook, the Outlook Data Files Inbox is selected. Is this normal?
Also, should I be backing up this folder? Suggestions seem to differ: some say use the Export option, while others say this can result in loss of data and it's better to just copy the file from it's location as shown in the Account Settings > Data File path.
Thanks.

Hi!

I am having a problem with my IMAP account in Outlook 2007. Most of the time everything works well, as expected. I send an email, the recipient gets it and the email is saved in the IMAP sent folder.

The problem I am having seems random as sometimes when I send an email, it doesn't get delivered and it ends up in the sent folder in the personal folders section. There are no errors when it gets sent and I don't notice anything different compared to when it sends properly.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello,

My system:
MS XP Home SP2 (fully updated)
MS Office Pro 2007 SP1

Having used Office XP for some years now I purchased and installed MS Office 2007 Pro and then installed SP1. My old settings were automatically updated and all mail transferred into 2007.

The problem I have is this: when I try to move email into various folders I get a message which informs me the folders have reached their size limits and that I should
[C]onsider using the new Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst) introduced with Outlook 2003 that provides greater capacity for storing items and folders.
I fail to understand why, if these folders were perfectly acceptable in Outlook XP, they should be implicitly considered not big enough to handle the amount of mail I have. So the question is, how do I go about using the "new Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst) introduced with Outlook 2003 that provides greater capacity for storing items and folders"?

Thanks in advance.

I have been having a very hard-to-figure-out problem with Outlook 2007. I have 2 profiles and one is day to day on whether or not it sends. It always shows my sent em in the sent folder but recipients claim they are not getting it. When I test send to my Hotmail account or my wife's business account they are not going out even though they are in my sent folder. When I go to my web mail and try the send, they go through. I have tried removing and recreating the profile and things work fine for awhile but eventually I have the same problem. Very disconcerting since I never know whether or not to trust that the emails are actually getting through. Any ideas?

I have happily used Outlook for several years for POP accounts. My recent addition of an Exchange account has hijacked several default behaviors that I was used to. For one, contacts are now saved by default in the exchange related contact folder instead of the folder that is associated with my primary POP account. How do I reconfigure Outlook to save contacts to my preferred folder, so that I don't have to constantly move the new contacts after they are saved? I do not want this information on the exchange account. This bad behaviour occurs no matter what email account is read, from which I am saving the contact info.

To reproduce the problem: Open a message in the POP email, right click on the FROM email address, choose Add to Contacts from the menu, find the contact stored in the exchange contact folder instead of the contact folder for the POP account (the folder that Outlook USED to save to,prior to adding the exchange account).

Work around: (annoying the first few times, mentally unhealthy after more than a few) Save the contact, then manually move it to the correct folder.

I am looking for a solution in Outlook 2010 under Windows 7 Pro.

Answer:How do I change the default folder for saving contacts in Outlook?

I realize that this is an old thread, but I thought that I'd post an answer. As far as I have been able to find out (and I've spent weeks looking for an answer), it is not possible to change the default Contacts folder. The default contacts folder will always be the one in the .pst or .ost file which contains your default Inbox. If you go to Properties for that Contacts folder, you cannot remove the checkmark from "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" on the Outlook Address Book tab.

The best that we can hope to do is to change the order in which our various contacts folders are shown when we click the Contacts icon in Outlook's navigation pane, and change which contact list will be shown first in Outlook's Address Book (via the Address Book icon on the Home ribbon). To change the order in which contacts folders are shown, follow this procedure:
Select the Contacts icon in the navigation pane.
Under My Contacts, right-click the folder that you want to move to the top (or bottom) of the list and then click "Move Up" (or "Move Down").
NOTE: Unfortunately, you cannot remove any Contacts folders from any of your open .pst or .ost files from this list. Ideally, we would want to remove them, but we can't.
To change which contact list is shown first in the Outlook Address Book, follow this procedure:
Click the Tools menu (Outlook 2007) or the Home tab (Outlook 2010 / 2013) and then click Address Book to open the address book.
In the address boo... Read more

hi, I have a laptop with MS outlook 2007 on it. it has two lists in the folders section. one named 'personal folders' and the other the 'email account name 'folders'.
The strange thing is whilst the email address folder is used for sending emails they do not appear in the sent folder for that email address they appear in the 'personal folders' sent mail folder.
I cant seem to find a solution for this, I imagine there is a switch/option which points the sent items into the 'email account' sent folder but I cant find it. all incoming emails appear in the 'email inbox' folder.
Running windows 10 1607
Any assistance gratefully received.

It's probably my fault since most things are. Yesterday I had trouble sending email. I looked in the add-ins and saw the COM addin for Microsoft Hotmail connector. Well, I couldn't find where to delete it and so I went to c:\Progra~2\common~1\system\msmapi\msncon32.dll and deleted that. I did a bad thing, didn't I? This morning my Personal Folder in Outlook Contacts, is gone.

How can I get it back?

I did a system restore but the Personal Folder in Contacts Outlook 2007 is not there. The add-in is.

I'd try Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download - http://www.piriform.com/recuva .

I used it a day ago when I inadvertently hit the Delete button, rather than Rename on a file I wanted (I delete without using the Recycle Bin) and it worked perfectly, restored the file to original location.

Hello All,

I am in desperate need of some assistance and if anyone can help it would be much appreciated!

We are running Exchange 2007.

One of our staff members is using Outlook 2007 and has contacted us because their 'Sent Items' folder has "dissapeared" from there navigation tree view which is very odd. This is also the case on OWA which accesses the server directly and is a true image of the mailbox.

Now the strange thing is that when you search the users e-mail address in 'All Mail Items' and sort the list by 'From' they are all displayed and you can also add the collum 'In Folder' and it shows 'Sent Items'.

I have been searching Google for the passed few days and the closest I have come is to open the 'Sent Items' folder using the following workaround.... Click 'View', highlight 'Toolbars' and select 'Web', in the new toolbar field type "outlook:sent items" without quotes. This shows the 'Sent Items' folder as expected but it does not display in the Navigation tree view.

Both these methods prove that all the Sent Items are present and in the mailbox but appear to be hidden from the navigation view in both Outlook and OWA.

Below are the steps I have tried so far to no avail:

- Re-created the Outlook profile on another machine
- Connected to the mailbox via IMAP
- Disabled Cache Mode within Outlook
- Exported mailbox to .PST and opened within Outl... Read more

My wife has accidentally deleted her email folder within Outlook 2007 tonight inside of deleting the email itself. Her email folder is a a sub folder of the Inbox. All of her email once received is sent to this folder, but now she has deleted I can't get it back again. I have tried to import a .pst to recover but Outlook says it is using that folder.Any other ideas? Help is greatly appreciated. Many thanksMatt

Answer:Outlook 2007 - Recover deleted folder

Try a file recovery tool , some are free , some you pay for , click here for a free type that seems to be well liked , warning , this can also be used to COMPLETELY delete files as well , so read carefully first . Ashley

Hello,Since my format a few days ago, I reinstalled office 2007 amongst other programs (windows Vista 32). However, I got a RSS Feeds? folder in outlook express 2007 that I wish to remove, as there is 100's of mails' coming in daily. Looked a bit up on Google but there seems to be several "long-winded" approaches....TIAKorgY

Answer:How to delete RSS feeds folder (outlook 2007)?

I'm a little confused. You mention MS Office 2007 then outlook express 2007?If it is MS Office outlook go to tools/account settings/RSS feeds select and delete. also delete the RSS feed folders. You can find a lot of information from the MS website or if you look to the top right of Outlook you will see a white rectangular box, just type in RSS and it will tell you how to add or remove RSS feeds.

I just switched from POP to IMAP for Outlook 2007. I see that there was a thread about my issue prior that is closed.

I delete a message and then it puts the strikeout line and then since I have it set to "Group message for deletion" it groups the deleted message at the bottom. Problem is they end up being deleted and are not in any trash or deleted folder.

I want to be able to manually delete them as I still refer back. Can you tell me how to set it up so that they go into a trash/deleted folder and stay there until I delete them?

Thanks

I am using Office 2007

WHen I send and email it gets sent immediately and shows in the Sent box. Even if it is a very large email it immediately shows sent/receive complete in the Progress window, and I can close Outlook.

The problem is that the email has not actually completely been sent. It is being sent and takes a few minutes for a large attachment as my upload speed is only 256 kbps.

If I disconnect the Net once it shows in the Sent folder the mail sending is incomplete if it is a large mail and is never received at the other end.

I am using Outlok 2003 on a different PC an there it does not go from Outbox to the Sent folder until the email is sent out of the computer.

Basically the problem I am facing is that Outlook 2007 puts the mail in the Sent box and I am never sure when to turn off my PC, as I cannot be sure that the mail sending has finished.

Never had this problem before.

Hi gaurav2004

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

I have removed your duplicate thread. Please do not create duplicate threads.

Thank you.
What anti-virus program are you using, is it configured to scan your e-mails?
If so, try disabling the scanning of messages and send a message addressed to yourself to test.
Are you also using an anti-spam program?
Try creating a new profile to test if the same behavior occurs in the new profile:
How to create a new e-mail profile in Outlook 2007 and in Outlook 2003
Cancel out of any prompts to import messages from the original profile.
Recreate your e-mail address and send a message addressed to yourself to test.

And/or,

in Outlook 2007, look in:
Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins
Disable any active Add-ins, restart Outlook 2007 then send a test message to yourself to test.

If the message goes through without problems, add back the Add-ins one at a time and test after restarting Outlook after each addition to see if the problem reoccurs.
Let us know what happens.

I recently started using Outlook 2007 on my PC. It was installed on my C drive and now that drive is almost full. How can I move all my old messages and put any new ones into a new folder on my D drive? Thanks!

Answer:Changing store folder for Outlook 2007

You'll need to go to the "Mail" icon in control panel. Locate where your current pst file is and copy it to your D: drive (with outlook closed). Then in the "Mail" icon add the "new" pst file. Set it as default. Setting it to default makes all new mail go to that PST file.

Open Outlook and then you can remove the old pst file in the Mail icon. When you change the default PST file it will not allow you to remove the old one until Outlook opens with the new one first. Removing the old PST file will not delete it, it just makes it so that it does not open with Outlook anymore so you may want to save it as a backup or if you're looking to get that space back, you can delete it.

BTW: The PST file saves all your messages, contacts and calendar info.

Long story short....I got called over to a friends Mom's house. Her Outlook 2007 (Full Outlook...not Express ) on her Laptop was having problems and someone else got there first and exported all her contacts and profiles to go ahead and import it to her Desktop PC that she does not use. (This was to be a temporary solution)

I came over and her problem with the laptop outlook 2007 is that when she composes an email Outlook does not see her "addressbook", even though if she clicks on "contacts" folder everyone is there.

I went thru all the steps on the following page to "add the address book service to the profile" and to then "get outlook to recognize the address book on the profile"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/197577

None of this worked. I then advised her I would just uninstall ALL of Microsoft OFFICE and then re-install it and that should solve the problem since will have to re-enter all the account info into Outlook. So I uninstalled Office. REstarted the Laptop. Then installed Office on the Laptop. Then I opened up Outlook via the program menu bar. When it opened, it showed up all her folders and inbox and account info as before. It was as if the program was never uninstalled!!! I always double check when I restart a system via the control panel to make sure the program is no longer showing up.

Is there some other magical way to uninstall Outlook in Vista??? My only other option for her is to press "Control F... Read more

Answer:outlook 2007 address folder issues...

1. Did you try to repair Outlook? Run the install CD, select repair.

2. Is Microsoft Office fully patched using Microsoft update? (not windows update)

Microsoft Office never fully uninstalls, no utility that I know of to fully clean the system either.

In Outlook 2007 all the folders under inbox cannot be deleted. I get a message "Cannot delete this folder. Right-click the folder, and then click properties to check your permissions for the folder. See the folder owner or your administrator to change your permissions. Folder is full."

I am the administrator (the only user of this computer). When I right click on the folder and look at Administration tab the buttons associated with permissions are greyed out.

What do I need to do the delete folders maually added by me under the inbox

Thanks Keith Lingenfelter

Answer:Solved: Outlook 2007 can't delete folder

My only thought right now is to close out of Outlook and delete the .ost file. If the inbox is located in a pst file, then the pst if full potentially.

I can't seem to figure out how to properly setup Outlook 2007's rules to filter and move certain e-mails to a folder. For example, I created a folder with the name hotmail. I want Outlook to move any e-mails that have a "@hotmail.com" domain name to the hotmail folder. I thought I set it up correctly, but not all hotmail e-mails were moved to that folder so I think I did something wrong. Can someone here please post some detailed instructions on how to set this up? Thanks!

Answer:How do I use Outlook 2007 to filter certain e-mails to a folder?

Okay you should be going to Tools /Rules & Alerts and then click NEW RULE

Now the Rules Wizard box should appear. Here towards the bottom middle you want to click on CHECK MESSAGES WHEN THEY ARRIVE then click NEXT

Now you need to check the condition WITH SPECIFIC WORDS IN THE SENDER"S ADDRESS and then click on the underlined link specifc words and add hotmail and hotmail.com to your word list then click OK and NEXT

Now select your action MOVE IT TO THE SPECIFIED FOLDER and then click on the underlined link specified folder and choose your folder that you want the hotmail emails moved to click OK then FINISH (unless you want to make exceptions which I doubt for now you do)

Now you will name the rule and turn it on. I hope this works for you. If not please tell me where you run into a problem and I will try again.

HI,

I'm trying to move my offline folder that syncs to my hotmail account from the current location (c:\users\local seetings\applications\microsoft\outlook etc) to the D:\ partition to free up some much needed space.

When I follow the MS help guidelines for going to Account (http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/ou...here-offline-files-are-saved-HA001227628.aspx) I do not have the option to turn off cached exchange mode.

I'm running 2007 Office Enterprise Outlook but syncing only to my hotmail account via the outlook connector. I can move the .pst file and re-point outlook to see it but not for my OST file.

Any ideas gratefully received.

For no reason that I'm aware of, new emails in my Outlook 2007 system began going directly to the deleted folder - and a duplicate email appeared, also in the deleted folder. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

It must be some rule in your Outlook or the sender might be in your Blocked Sender List (see in Junk Email Options). See an old thread here in TSG that offers many solutions.

Hi Everyone,

I have a strange dilemma with my Outlook 2007 folders.

Although I have an Outlook.pst & an Archive.pst file in use, Outlook 2007 (or at least the GUI) shows that two personal folder files are in use. From previous experience I am aware that the Archie.pst file should show up with the name "Archive Folders" in the Outlook 2007 (GUI) folder list, please see this link for clarification:

http://www.systemcontrol.com.au/dd/Outlook2007-FoldersStrangeness.jpg

In the link above I have shown the typical Outlook 2007 folder layout on the right in "black & white".

I am wondering if the strange folder structure that I am seeing, e.g.: the lack of "Archive Folders" in the folder list has something to do with the files that Outlook 2007 is using.

Here is a link to the files that are in use by my Outlook 2007:

http://www.systemcontrol.com.au/dd/Outlook2007-Files.jpg

Of particular interest in my files list is the Outlook.bak file. I wondering if this file could be "interferring" with the Archive.pst file is some way.

At any rate I would like to call the second Personal Folders folder "Archive Folders" as is normal on most installations of Outlook 2007.

Any help with renaming the folder will be appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

Kind Regards,

Davo

First time poster here.
I have 4 separate contact folders within my Personal folder. One being work, other being FD, etc. I want to copy all my contacts from one sub contact folder and paste them into the default Contact folder. I cannot find an easy way of doing this and would greatly appreciate a step by step solution

Thanks in advance

In Outlook XP and earlier versions I could put a shortcut to "my documents"
or any other folder I liked, I believe by going to something like "other
shortcuts" and opening up the folder list - the list looked just like windows
explorer, so I was able to create a shortcut to any folder or file I wanted.
Now I've updated to Outlook 2007 I don't seem to be able to do that. My
folder list only contains Outlook folders, it no longer resembles Windows
Explorer. Am I missing something? Or can't this be done anymore? i need to save my emails to a folder out of outlook. How do i do this most efficiently?

Answer:outlook 2007 i need a shortcut to a folder on c drive

im not totally understanding your concept, although you may be able to shift click all your emails right click and save to folder in the drop down list. if that helps you
