Intel's 10nm 'Cannonlake' delayed, replaced by 14nm 'Kaby Lake'

Question: Intel's 10nm 'Cannonlake' delayed, replaced by 14nm 'Kaby Lake'

Intel has led the desktop processor market for the last decade, dominating in price and performance nearly without challenge since the introduction of the Core 2 chips in 2006. However, as of late the challenges of improving silicon chips has...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Anyone have any idea when we would see the P70 updated with the Kaby Lake 7th Generation Intel processor? Seems like the flagship portable workstation should have the newer processor and if I understand it correctly it should be easy to do since the chip architecture is similar.

Hi All,

I would like to know more about Windows 7 support for the Intel Kaby lake/Skylake CPUs. What will happen when I deploy windows 7 OS onto a new laptop/desktop with that CPU?

My understanding is that one of the follow two scenarios will occur.
1)Windows updates will be downloaded and installed as per normal but they won't be tested for that platform/OS combination. So MS won't provide any support if the behavior of some software changes.
2)There might be some logic built into the updates so that when it detects windows 7 with kaby/skylake, the updates will simply not be installed.

Also, to add to the above - Will deploying the patches via SCCM/WSUS influence the above behavior?

I have already conducted some research, but couldn't get to the answer.

Regards,
Gerhard

I am wondering if I can install Windows 7 Home Premium on a Kaby Lake processor -Intel  i3-7100. I understand Microsoft will stop supporting Win 7 in 2020, but I did not find any article by Microsoft stating that Win 7 cannot be installed on seventh

Intel does provide graphic drivers in their website for Win 7 platform for the above mentioned CPU.
I plan to but an i3 processor, and because of this restriction I dont want to spend money on a 6th gen cpu. Please suggest.

According to several sources, Intel's Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs seem to have a microcode bug.
See e.g https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/06/25/intel_skylake_kaby_lake_microcode_bug/.

I have noted the above news item.  One of the links is here.
I would be grateful if someone could advise if  this affects Dell computers and, if so, how and when will a fix be issued.
Any information would be appreciated.

Answer:News item "Major Hyper-Threading Flaw Destabilizes Intel Kaby Lake, Skylake CPUs"

If your Dell computer has a Skylake or Kaby Lake CPU it is affected. I am also interested in how this issue will be addressed whether through a Windows 10 microcode update or a BIOS/UEFI update. IF you have a Kaby Lake CPU and the update is a microcode update to Windows you may be out of luck if you don't have Windows 10.

so i hear Kaby Lake and Zen isn't "compatible" with anything older than Win 10, but what does that mean?

will everything still work, but you just wont get any security updates via windows update?
or will they cripple it so it wont even boot?

i also heard that intel/AMD wont provide any chipset updates, but that should be fine right?

Answer:Kaby Lake, Zen & Win 7

It means that on Kaby Lake or Zen you wont be able to install other OS than Win 10 or Linux.
It's Windows death sentence.

A few days ago I got the new 9360 with a standard configuration. In general a very nice piece of hardware. I do have a problem however (I am guessing it is the network killer driver). Of course I have been updating all available new drivers including 2DNC8_WN32_1.1.61.1297_A01.EXE
I am an online chessplayer using a chessserver (playchess). Since switching to the XPS 13 I have lag times not experienced before. I have been online multiple times and the result is very much the same. Funny with my 'old ASUS UX31'  I have no such issues. At home I am connected to the same network, and my internet connection is via coax cable.
Since I thought this could not be true I did another test and set the Dell and the ASUS to do a ping test.
Firstly I pinged simultaneous (2 finger system) the chess server which is a long distance from my location (Australia to Germany) and then I pinged google.
Out of 10 tries the ASUS got 8 times the better ping times then the DELL for both the chess server and google. The ping times for google were of course shorter then the chess server.
Beats me, any idea anyone.
Cheers

HelloNow I know that Dell might not want to give any information about this topic, but I wanted to ask anyway. I will without any doubt buy a new laptop before the end of this year as my current laptop is so unstable that it is a complete no go at any exam.Kaby Lake quad core CPU's will not be hitting the market before 2017. However the nvidia 1050/1050ti will, to my knowledge, be released in October. Also there has just been a significant(around 100USD) discount on XPS 15(and the old 13) on the Dell website. At least on the danish site. This leads me to think that a XPS 15 refresh with a 1050/1050ti might come before the end of the year? Is this possible or are there no doubt that a XPS 15 refresh wont happen before Kaby Lake in 2017?Best RegardsEmil

Hey everyone,

Sooo, just bought a new laptop. The model is below:
E5-575G-728Q | Laptops - Tech Specs & Reviews - Acer

Reading on the internet, I cannot find a reliable source confirming if Windows 7 can be installed on Intel Kaby lake processors. Found sources telling me that you can and sources telling me you cannot.

I needed to try, so I booted an USB with a WIN7 iso using RUFUS and tried to install, however after starting the install I get this:

I tried to use both 3.0 and 2.0 USB ports, same error. I cannot load drivers from same usb or other USB as I cannot access them from there, so I am guessing that's not the issue. I also enabled legacy.
I don't even know what driver I would need.

Am I forced to install Win10? I would very much appreciate any kind of guidance as I do not like WIN10 interface.

Skylake users given 18 months to upgrade to Windows 10 | Ars Technica

Help me understand how this works? I have a 6700k with w7 and w10. How does Microsoft know which CPU one uses with Windows?

Would, for example, a W7 computer with a 2600k get updates that mine would not?

If I were to get a Kaby Lake CPU and try to install w7 with it, what would happen?

Would only some useless power saving features not work? Would Windows 7 not install at all? What new features are coming in new processors other than power saving shenanigans? I have no idea what that author is talking about. I have installed multiple different Windows OSs via USB with NO "difficulty".

Furthermore, is this just fearmongering? It certainly seems like it may not affect consumers/enthusaists as much as the author implies.

Also, before anyone says "go to 7 forums", one will ALWAYS be comparing older OSs to the newest ones in regards to performance and compatibility thus I feel it's appropriate.

Newer processor may have some new instructions that older OSs don't know about. Similar things were happening in the past. Seems like MS is not going to bother with updates to older windows to be compatible with newer CPUs but Intel may come up with some patch.

Hi everybody,
Last week I had to return the brand new 9350 QHD+ because of the coil whine noise. It was a real pity because I was in love with the rest, but it was simply too loud.
Now I am thinking again what to buy.
Is the design of the new XPS 13 Kaby Lake (9360) solving the coil whine problem?
If yes, I would prefer to wait and buy the new version.
I hope that someone from Dell can give me an asnwer here. Thank you very much in advance!

Answer:XPS 13 Kaby Lake: coil whine

This system is so new few if any users will have one in their hands.
Other thing to consider if it's an issue -- Kaby Lake will not run anything earlier than Windows 10, period - no work arounds, etc.  It's Windows 10 or nothing (Windows-wise) -- if that's an issue.

I received my XPS13 9360 with i5 KabyLake processor, 8Gb of RAM, and 256Gb SSD configuration  today and I'm impressed with it so far. I ordered a 9350 model with the (i5 SkyLake) last month but returned it to Dell for a refund due to the infamous 'noise' issue, sub-par network card performance, and intermittent speaker distortion. I really like the XPS 13 and dreaded have to send it back; I just couldn't accept the shortcomings and deficiencies considering the amount of money spent. Well, it is obviously too soon to say that there aren't any gremlins hiding and lurking in the 9360 version but I can certainly say that this particular system is working flawlessly--perfect. As far as noticeable differences in processor performance, I really can't say (or care)--I only had the 9350 for a couple of days so I have no basis to compare.  I'm not into hair-splitting or super-sonic performance and could care less about the nanosecond differences in the SkyLake and KabyLake processors. I would have been quite happy with the 9350 had it not been for the gremlins I noted. I'm not the into gamer stuff anyway--the i5 processor is quite suitable for my purposes. However, the little bugger is super fast-scary fast! I am very impressed with the new Killer network card, too. Man, the thing i... Read more

Hey folks!

I wanted to see if I could get some help with cooling my rig. This was my first custom build, and I got some help from a buddy of mine. The only problem that I am having so far is that it seems like my CPU is running hot. At least I think it is, I'm really not quite sure what normal temps are for this CPU, but it seems hotter than it should be.

Idle temp: ~45-50c
Gaming temp: 60-75c

I've tried a few things already, and I'll try to include all of the information that is needed.

Things I've tried:
Installed new case fans with higher CFMRemoved Corsair stock thermal paste, replaced with Arctic Silver 5Set a custom fan curve in Corsair LinkTurned case fans to 100% with fan controllerRe-adjusted case fans to use push-pull

Rig Info:
Cooler Master Haf XIntel Kaby Lake i7-7700KCorsair H100i v2 (upgraded radiator fans)

I also have reduced the overclocking on the CPU. Right now, it is set to 46x core ratio, versus the stock of 42x. I honestly don't quite understand how to control the voltage, but I believe it's set to 1.2. My mobo has overclocking profiles that are automatic, and I have those turned on.

I would be happy to provide any additional information, and I really appreciate your help!

I got the system about a month ago and over the past several weeks it has been crashing extremely frequently. Initially it would not resume from sleep, now if I let the screen time out, it will not wake up. I've tried windows updates, windows memory diagnostic and new WiFi drivers. One day it crashed 7 times as I was trying to figure out the problem. If I try and disable or update the Wifi driver after its connected to a network it BSODs. I disabled as much power managment as I could related to WiFi and it seems to have reduced the frequency of crashes, the crashes occur whether or not its plugged in.

T470 are (project-)delivered aswell with Skylake(old-W7) as Kaby Lake(new-W10) processors. What are the different ways to identify the processor integrated:-using "Parts Lookup" based on "Serial Number"?-based on "Model Number"?-Bios-settings?

Answer:T470 Skylake vs Kaby Lake

If you have the machine, the quickest way is to boot into the BIOS.  It will show the processor.  Skylake processor have a "6" in the third position, such as I5-6200u.  Kaby Lake processors will have a "7" in that position.

Hi there,

Just got a new build put together...been using AMD for quite some time now, before that Intel, now back to Intel. It has been many generations since I ran Intel so I am not too familiar with temps and all...I know the 7700k runs warm but I have a few questions about my setup currently. See below.

- Firstly, I mounted radiator to front due to my open shroud GPU, bringing cold air from front instead of exhausting hot air from radiator and a good portion of the GPU's hot air through top
-I have 3 Noctua 140mm fans, 2 on top and 1 at back all exhausting...this may be an issue with -/+ air pressure? Maybe switch to a H115i to help with this?
-For front mounted radiators is push or pull better? I also may have mounted it improperly, see pics, fans are on one side of mounting bracket and radiator is the other
-Ambient temp is 23-25C, idling temps hover between 31-33C, when running Prime95 I can hear the H100i fans turn up and feel air being pushed through radiator however temps hover between 72-78 and sometimes skyrocket to 89ish, but only for a breif moment before dropping down back to the 75C range. Are these temps right? I feel I may have over tightened my CPU screws and maybe used a tad too much thermal compound....or maybe I'm just over thinking this whole thing.

https://1drv.ms/f/s!AqOCHQW1MOLxsynI5KQ2Yxj9Kkqv - this is a full link, it keeps breaking though. Images of build and setup in here.

Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I currently have an Envy 750-114 desktop, which has an i5-6400 processor. I am curious as to whether I would be able to upgrade to a 7th-generation Core processor (Kaby Lake), since it has the same socket. I realize that this line of processors does not appear to be officially supported, and thus any such upgrade would be liable to void any warranty on this system, but the warranty is just about expired anyway. The TDP of a 7th-generation processor appears to be comparable to that of the current processor (many of them appear to be 65 W, such as the i5-7500 or the i7-7700). My concern is less about official support and whether such an upgrade would work at all (particularly as to whether any issues may arise). I have the 2B47 1.04 board, with BIOS version A1.08.

Answer:Envy 750-114 processor upgrade - Kaby Lake

@jackypop Most motherboards with the 1151 socket are typically capable of supporting Kaby Lake processors. However, that doesn't mean that all manufacturers will support Kaby Lake on the 1151 socket motherboards.  The existing processor support list for your motherboard don't include Kaby Lake processors.  Additionally, I can find no mention for Kaby Lake processor support in the last BIOS update fix information.

The computer was purchased on December 10 2016, and on February 11 2017 I presented the fan system error 90B.
The error appears and disappears, I update the BIOS but it is still happening. The equipment is impeccable, so I discard dirt. Also the fan seems to work, and I have monitored the temperature and it has not changeda, although it has warmed considerably since I bought it. But the error still appears. The equipment has warranty but I buy it in USA and I am from Costa Rica.

Has anyone seen / heard information regarding a possible ETA for the new Kaby Lake based Spectre x360 variants in the UK? It's exactly what I'm looking for, and I was really excited about the October release date, only to be disappointed when it came and went and yet it's still not available in the UK I've customized the spec that I'm after on the US store: 13", 1920x1080, Core i7-7500U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD, Win 10 Pro x64 - except of course it's lacking the UK keyboard. Any idea how much longer I have to wait before I can replace my ancient 8+ year old laptop with this laptop of my dreams? Thanks,Alex

Hi! I would like to know whether it is possible to put 32GB of memory (as 2 x 16GB DDR4 SODIMMs) into the Kaby Lake version of the ENVY 15 (specifically, the as104na: http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=ECC_BUNDLE_6156376 ). The documentation suggests that 16GB (as 2 x 8GB SODIMMs) is the maximum, but it's unclear whether this is actually accurate or has just been copied from previous-generation documentation - otherwise-inferior competing products using the same processor and chipset such as http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-15-7560-laptop/pd?oc=cn75602&model_id=inspiron-15-7560-laptop clearly advertise support for 32GB of memory as 2 x 16GB SODIMMs. I can see that there are similar answers around for previous generations of the product, such as http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Is-32GB-RAM-possible-in-an-HP-E... , but does this answer continue to be true on the new versions? If so, can you offer some explanation as to where this restriction comes from? (For example, if it is really a testing/certification issue rather than some sort of hardware deficiency and therefore actually will likely work (without being explicitly supported) then I would be happy to take my chances with that setup.)

Answer:32GB of memory in Kaby Lake laptops

32GB is not tested and may cause unexpected results.HP ENVY Notebook PC (model numbers 15-as100 through 15-as199) support 16GB Maximum. Two memory slots, non- accessibl. I have the above mentioned Swift 3 Kaby Lake (i3). I had some disconnecting issues with WiFi on BIOS 1.01 that the laptop came with. Acer webpage suggested BIOS 1.08 according to my product SNID 65101294372 and I installed that. Now WiFi issues are more frequent, some trouble with headphone jack and Adobe Flash issues (crashes), too.Could you at Acer verify that I am using the correct BIOS?

Hi all, so I am finally about to replace my Yoga 2 Pro. One of my main requirements is battery life for trans atlantic flights. I was initially looking at the 710 15 inch which seems to be getting good battery life, although reviews of the revised Kaby Lake are hard to find. Now with the 910 released, I am also looking at that model. Concerns with both models, the Best Buy versions that have 16gb of the 710 15 inch and 910 both have QHD screens which I am assuming hit the battery for around an hour of battery life vs. the FHD versions. Also the 710 FHD model in Best Buy is the i5 version (I am thinking I could drop an extra 8gb of memory into that revision as I believe there is a free memory slot available?) and so I am wondering would I really see much of a difference in the i5 vs i7, I do not do any HD encoding etc, the most taxing activity would be World of Warcarft which I think should run fine on either at reduced resolution.Last question, on the 710, is the SSD sata or PCIe? Again battery life is a concern, main usage for flights will be watching local video content, both 1080p and 720p. Thoughts?Patrick

Have tried disabling hibernate only allowing sleep with no change.  Also of note battery is significantly drained when this issue happens and its not plugged in.

I am on my third Yoga 710 14" unit, all of them had different build quality issues. One was bent, another had a crack between the bottom and top of the chassie, both from factory. On the new one it only took a few weeks before I noticed new problems.  The laptop makes a lot of noise and creaks whenever I lift it up, open or move the screen lid, just change its position on my lap etc. It makes these cheap creaking noises often seen on very cheap old laptops and toys, but this computer is very expensive so it should not do this. It is not a very loud noise, but you can hear it almost all the time unless the laptop is stationary on a table etc. it is espesially noticable if I lift it up and rotate or mildly shakes it. I've never experienced this before, unless it was a very low end laptop. Have any of you encountered this issue before? There is also quite a bit of light bleeding in the top right corner.  It feels very cheap when it makes noises and creaks like that when I simply pick it up.

Does that mean we will continue to get security updates?
From an enterprise perspective, we don't want to roll these out with Windows 7 and then get the unsupported hardware popup and no updates

Hi, So having a bit of a frustrating experience finding a working dock for the new Spectre X360 (Kaby Lake). I recently purchased an Hp Spectre x360 from BestBuy. The laptop ran great and gave me no issues until I hooked the laptop on a 4K monitor. There are two thunderbolt 3 ports on the machine, one actually works fine connecting to the external display. However, the other thunderbolt 3 port does not project anything on the external display. In addition, the internal display blacks out. I know for a fact that both thunderbolt 3 port should be able to project to an external display (even multiple) but that is not the case for me. In need of technical support or guidance.

Hi, Ok, here's my model. Aspire E17 E5-774G-74CB https://www.acer.com/datasheets/2016/4876/E5-774G/NX.GEDEZ.006.html https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/support-product/6784?b=1&pn=NX.GEDEZ.006 I spent several days without any luck - Win 7 doesn't install on it in EUFI/GPT mode. The computer has Win 10 currently and I do want to preserve it, hence the EUFI/GPT choice. I tried various reincarnations of Win 7 but they all fail to progress past Starting Windows step. That's when the loading of files by the setup ends and the GUI part is about to begin. Just a few colored dots start to move on the screen and that's it. I tried NTLite with various Intel USB3 and other drivers but to no avail. One compilation that I found was even passing the loading files and starting in a GUI mode (which, probably, implies that boot.wim was kind of OK) but failing again after the reboot (which, probably, implies that install.wim is missing some drivers present in boot.wim). The thing is, I don't know in this particular case what drivers were in both wims as I haven't compiled them myself. When I was embedding the drivers alone, it was not even starting the boot.wim, let alone install.wim. The drivers used were taken from the below resources. Intel_USB3_50032_Win7_32_64 [link edit] Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Windows 7 32-bit & 64-bit, [link edit] Aspire E5-774G https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/support-product/6784?b=1&pn=NX.GEDEZ.006 Drivers for the A... Answer:Installing Win 7 on Kaby Lake Aspire E5-774G-74CB ...

You did not state if the HP was EUFI setup, just GPT. Multi boot with more than one OS are tricky, in EUFI even more so.  Look at recent post here on dual boot with Linux. Has most the info you seek. As for preserving win10, once you register with Microsoft Acct restoring is a snap.  Just download package and flash drive prep tool. Gather drivers from Acer. Install, skip code request. Once online, reauthorize with Microsoft by logging into account you should already have made. Info is saved matching the machine to your account. No codes needed. So in essence you could take a 8gb flash drive, prep win10 install, add drivers and few backup items, put away for rainy day.

Hello, In late December 2016 I purchased an XPS 8910 from Dell. I like it. It includes a Skylake Core i7 6700 cpu. I know both Skylake and Kaby Lake processors both use the same motherboard socket LGA 1151.  And, the now released Kaby Lake will in fact still work with a z170 motherboard. My question is: When will Dell provide a Bios update to support the new Kaby Lake processors so we can upgrade, or does the latest Bios version 1.0.10 already have this capability?

So I have an ideacenter 700-25ISH that came with a Sky Lake Intel Core i5-6400 that is too slow for things that I intend doing for gaming, I purchased a comptabile LGA 1151 Kaby Lake Intel Core i7-7700K that I intended on using.  At first I removed everything as usual and placed the chipset in, however, the issue was that the computer never turned on or booted.  I removed it, placed the Core i5 back in and it worked just fine.   I said okay, the PC was purchased before the Kaby Lake chipset came out, so I went on the Lenovo website and updated the bios to the latest version 07/12/2017.  Let it update and tried again.  Still nothing, will not turn on after update either.  I understand that possibly this may not work so I may return it.  The computer runs great and I intended on upgrading it with the final piece, the processor.  I would probably end up getting an i7-6700k but I would prefer the Kaby Lake due to the faster clock speed and OC speed overall and its actually a little less expensive. If there is a way I can somehow, get this Kaby Lake i7 to work, I would be extremely happy.

I recently purchased the XPS 13 9360 (Kaby Lake) and have been using for a couple days.
I've noticed coil whine in the form of static sounds coming from the left side of the laptop, near the power connector.
There is very minimal noise when the laptop is on battery, where the noise is audible when your ear is next to the keyboard.
However, when connected to the power outlet the static becomes quite audible at a normal viewing distance. The static occurs frequently (especially when scrolling).
I tend to work in quite spaces with little ambient room noise, as I am easily distracted.
Is there a solution to resolving this coil whine issue? I feel like at this price point this should not be an issue (especially since is was well known in the earlier models).

Hi, I just got the new Kaby Lake (Intel's 7th gen) Spectre x360 and ran it through its paces. It seems to be a solid machine, but there's one serious issue so far - external displays flashing on and off, at least when hooked up with a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort adapter (this one from CableMatters: http://amzn.to/2gKQrVR. What happens when I connect external monitors (1 or 2-3 via DisplayPort MST) is sometimes they work fine.Sometimes, if I disconnect and reconnect, they start flashing on and off.Sometimes, the whole laptop freezes upon connection (happened twice today so far). And finally sometimes the externals are not working at all - the system detects them, but selecting Extend or anything in multi-monitor mode just reverts back to Single.Oh, and this happens once: http://i.imgur.com/Su9zInD.png http://i.imgur.com/qG9K8yC.png - the external display got stuck in a 640x480 generic mode and would not turn on.As you can see, it's a [email protected]$%*. Here's a video of the flickering/flashing (case #2 above): https://youtu.be/OkngFs_h2xk. Both the laptop and the 7th gen Intel chip are relatively new, so I haven't been able to find a thread discussing potential culprits, or fixes from HP. Try ctrl alt delete to open task manager look for running processes and check HP Support Solutions Framework and see if it is hogging up CPU cycles. If so, stop it and your CPU load should drop to single digits and the fan should kick off. When the Support Assistant goes out and tries to get updates it can lock that Solutions Framework on and eat up 40% of the CPU causing the fan to come on.

Hello I just bought a new HP Spectre X360 with a elite thunderbolt 3 65w dock. After installing all the drivers everything is working when i connect the laptop to the dock. But the only thing that i cannot get to work is the power button on the dock. It doesnt light up in any colour like it says in the manuel and when i press it, it does nothing. I went to search for thunderbolt options in the bios but it seems there are none there. I updated to the latest bios (f.11) btw. Hope someone can help me with a solution kind regards Jelle

Hello,I've followed some posts on this support forum, regarding if the new Spectre x360 Kaby Lake (Product# W9B13AV_1 http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/Laptops/hp-spectre-x360-convertible-laptop-13t-touch-w9b13av-1) supports or not an active pen. What we've learned is that this laptop doesn't work with HP Active Pen (Product# T5E12AA#ABL http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/accessories-88342--1/hp-active-pen-t5e12aa-abl) and HP Active Stylus (Product# J4R51AA#ABL http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/accessories-88342--1/hp-active-pen-j4r51aa-abl), based on some answers from the support team on previous posts, and based on the information contained in this page: http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05166879.Some early online reviews stated that there is no support for active pen, Lisa Gade from MobileTechReview said: "The one feature missing from the previous generation is the active digitizer for the optional HP Active Stylus (a Synaptics pen technology). Given how heavily HP has advertised this feature in the previous generation, I'm surprised they removed it. And yes, it's really gone--there's no active digitizer listed in device manager, and I tested both Synaptics pens and Wacom and N-Trig pens just in case they'd switched to a different pen technology. That means you can use your finger or a capacitive stylus like those made for the iPad Air, but not a precise pen with pressure levels and palm rejection."http://www.mobiletechreview.com/notebooks/HP-Spectre-x360-Late-2016.htmSo, Is HP Spec... Was a new version of the Kaby Lake 13.3 Spectre x360 convertible released around April 2017 that supports the stylus? I have an original Kaby Lake 13.3 x360 purchased Feb 2017 and couldn't get the active stylus to work. Tech support said that the 13t-wx00 product W9A93AV doesn't support the stylus. Now I see that a stylus is furnished free with what appears to be the exact computer I purchased. I have been unable to get an answer from technical support as we have difficulties communicating. Does anyone know if the stylus is supported on my Spectre? I returned my original HP active stylus after tech support said they don't work even though the advertising at the time showed people using a stylus. Now they are giving one away free and I don't understand???? Can I update my convertible to work with the stylus? It's frustrating as I purchased the unit thinking the stylus would work and now feel cheated! I guess that's what I get for buying a brand new product.

Considering this new revision has been out for about a couple months now, I am really surprised that no one has posted about this yet. My question is simply exactly as the title says. Does the newest HP Spectre x360 13-w0XX that has the new Kaby Lake i7 support two 4k displays? I know that because of having Thunderbolt 3 ports, it has the right connections to support it. I guess the real question is can the Intel Graphics 620 support that? I know it can support one 4k display, but not seen anything about dual 4k displays.  I just recently purchased this lap top, and I love it so far. However 1 of the main reasons I bought it was because it was 1 of very few lap tops on the market with Thunderbolt 3. I think the only Windows laptop that had not only 1 but 2 of them. So if this laptop has the ports to support dual 4k without a graphics card that can, then that will be incredibly disappointing.

To put the comment in context i originally posted this in the "Battery drain when shut-down" forum. Ok, trying to figure out how to get rid of the last 2-4% overnight drain i went through device manager and checked for outdated drivers, i then noticed that the driver for the NVME storage controller was a generic windows driver from 2006, tried to search for a update via device manager and hp's support page but no luck. Then i rememered that back in the old days i used to use driver update tools to fetch the latest drivers for my computer, so i installed iobit driver booster 4 (free) and gave it a spin. Guess what, it gave me a samsung driver from august 2016. Did a reboot and just to make sure it was working as it should, i fired up ATTO and CrystalDiskMark and ran benchmarks. I know what numbers the SSD got before and what reviewers of this machine have gotten, which was about 1700mb/s read and 600mb/s write. This is what i get after i replaced the generic nvme controller driver with the one from samsung:3000mb/s read and 1200mb/s write!!! Im not sure how the new driver will affect battery life or anything, but i figuered i'd let you guys know, i mean that is almost double the performance of the generic windows driver.   Try it out if you want guys, run a couple of SSD benchmarks before you install the new driver so that you have something to compare the after results with PS! Don't blame me if your computer explodes or breaks down in any ... Read more

Yes the driver update is likely the Samsung NVMExpress driver update 2.1: http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools.html I installed it in my Spectre 13 Pro and it updated the Microsoft Standard NVME driver from 2006 to the Samsung NVME dated 12/8/16. Unfortunately my speed increases were not as dramatic but there was an improvement....about 10% on both read and write side. I have the Samsung MZVLV256  aka SM951..M.2 disk and read is about 1500 and write is a bit over 500.  I did the same upgrade to my Zbook G3 MWS which has the 512 gig SM951 and this one is giving me fits...read is about 1300 but write shows up as an appaling 9 mbps. Has to be something wrong. Results are just about the same with or without the Samsung NVME driver.  Still the Zbook "feels" very peppy. Boot time is good and everything seems to run fine. So not sure whether I should be concerned or not.

Hello all,Ever since getting my Dell XPS 13 (the 2016 Kaby Lake model), I've experienced a buzzing noise coming from the speakers when playing audio. I seem to experience this across almost all levels of volume aside from the very lowest volume levels (<10), and predictably, the buzzing gets worse the louder the volume is. I've been in touch with tech support but they were less than helpful. Worth noting that the buzzing noise only comes from the speakers when audio is playing. It's not present while using the laptop normally and it gets worse as the volume increases.Drivers are all up to date, so I don't think that's the cause. Like I said, it's been a problem since day 1. Is there a known cause for this and if so, what's the solution? I expected a lot more from a top of the range laptop.Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Dell XPS 13 (2016 Kaby Lake Model) Buzzing From Speakers

Hello. You need to narrow the cause down to either a software or hardware issue. If it's in the hardware, it would be covered if the laptop is still under warranty.
Nat1400Dell XPS 13 (the 2016 Kaby Lake model)
I don't know which of the XPS 13's that is, but they all have Realtek audio. The first test would be to compare the performance of the speakers using the Realtek driver to their performance with the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager.2. Expand the "Sound, Video & Game Controllers" section.3. Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio" and select to uninstall.4. Put a check mark in the option to delete the driver software, and then ok.5. Restart the laptop and go back to the Device Manager and check again for a Realtek driver. Keep uninstalling & restarting until Realtek no longer appears under Sound...Controllers and "High Definition Audio Device" or "Intel High definition" appears in its place. [To later return to the Realtek driver, download a fresh copy from you model's support page.]
If the buzzing goes away with the native driver, then the Realtek driver is the source of the noise. Realtek includes software (Waves) that intensely processes the audio signal and can cause all sorts of aural artifacts. There were reports of "static" with some of the XPS models after the Win10 anniversary update.
If the buzz remains while the native driver is installed, then the... Read more
