Excel macro creates duplicate entries in outlook

Question: Excel macro creates duplicate entries in outlook

Hi, I have a macro in excel that automatically updates my outlook calender - I use it to keep track of actions/deadlines/etc...

The macro runs beautifully except... whenever I run it it creates duplicates of appointments it has previously made in my outlook calendar. Is there any thing that I can add to the macro below to ensure it doesn't duplicate?

Really appreciate any help on this one. Cheers.
Sub outlookexport()

Dim olApp As Outlook.Application
Dim olApt As AppointmentItem
Dim blnCreated As Boolean

'Read the table with appointments:
Dim arrAppt() As Variant, i As Long
arrAppt = Range("A2", Cells(Rows.Count, "E").End(xlUp)).Value
On Error Resume Next
Set olApp = GetObject(, "Outlook.Application")
If olApp Is Nothing Then
Set olApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
blnCreated = True
Err.Clear
Else
blnCreated = False
End If
On Error GoTo 0

'Create the outlook item for the table entries:
'Rows:
' Row 1 = date
' Row 2 = starttime
' Row 3 = endtime
' Row 4 = Description
' Row 5 = Location

For i = LBound(arrAppt) To UBound(arrAppt)
Set olApt = olApp.CreateItem(olAppointmentItem)

With olApt
.Start = arrAppt(i, 1) + arrAppt(i, 2)
.End = arrAppt(i, 1) + arrAppt(i, 3)
.Subject = arrAppt(i, 4)
.Location = arrAppt(i, 5)
.Body = "Created by excel tool"
.BusyStatus = olBusy
.ReminderMinutesBeforeStart = 5
.ReminderSet = True
.Save
End With
Next i
Set olApt = Nothing
Set olApp = Nothing

End Sub

Preferred Solution: Excel macro creates duplicate entries in outlook

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

We have a spreadsheet that keeps track of when our computer warranties expire. Would like to run a macro using the warranty expired date to create an appointment in Outlook. That part I understand. The problem is that when I go to run the macro again, it creates a duplicate appointment if the appointment already existed. Very frustrating!

This is the code below, any help would be appreciated!!!! Thanks
Sub AddToOutlook()
Dim o As Outlook.Application
Dim ai As Outlook.AppointmentItem
Dim r&, sSubject$, sBody$, dStartTime As Date, dDuration#

For r = 4 To 10

sSubject = Sheet1.Cells(r, 1).Value
sBody = Sheet1.Cells(r, 4).Value
dStartTime = Sheet1.Cells(r, 3).Value
dDuration = 30
Set o = GetObject(, "Outlook.Application")
Set ai = o.CreateItem(olAppointmentItem)
ai.Body = "Service Tag= " & sBody
ai.Subject = "Warranty Expires for Server " & sSubject
ai.Start = dStartTime
ai.Duration = dDuration
ai.Close olSave

Next r
End Sub

Hi all... I just joined this forum as past threads have been of great assistance... But now I have a immediate issue... I have wrote some code to pull info from a Excel report and create an Outlook appointment base on various commitment dates... This report is sent out daily therefore the macro is used daily... An issue that has risen is that everytime the macro is ran it creates duplicate appoinments which quickly bogg down the server... I saw an example on a closed thread and could not quite figure it out... Can anyone assist??? I am running 2003 versions of both Excel and Outlook and my code is as follow and thanks...

Answer:2003 Excel to Outlook Calendar appoinment VB macro creates duplicates appointments

Hi jayJay,

I'm not going to look through the whole code but what I think happens is that sinec you run the macro every time it will just add an appoitment, I think an options should be added, something like an extra column namen DONE and when the macro is run the cell in the column DONE should be given a value True() or a 1 to indicate it as done, so that when you run the macro again the column DONE cells where the valkue is not True() or is not 1 (dependign on waht you choose) is carried out.
This way you will avoid duplication.
Just an idea, happy coding.

Hi,

I need help with a macro. So far the macro is operating as it should , creating MS Outlook 2010 calendar appointments using data from an excel data spreadsheet (data base). The issue I’m having is that every time the macro is run for a new entry, duplicate calendar appointments are created for the already existing data in the data base. I would like to have the macro do a search to ensure an appointment does not exist before creating one. I have read a few threads with similar problems but have had major issues incorporating the solutions to resolve the issue I’m having.

I have attached the macro in txt. format for reference.

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Solved: Excel macro updating Outlook calendar is creating duplicate appointments.

Hi
You can use this function to check if an appointment exists based on the Start Day/Time

Code:

Public Function CheckAppointment(ByVal argCheckDate As Date) As Boolean

Dim oApp As Outlook.Application
Dim oNameSpace As Outlook.Namespace
Dim oApptItem As Outlook.AppointmentItem
Dim oFolder As Outlook.MAPIFolder
Dim oMeetingoApptItem As Outlook.MeetingItem
Dim oObject As Object

On Error Resume Next
' check if Outlook is running
Set oApp = GetObject("Outlook.Application")
If Err <> 0 Then
'if not running, start it
Set oApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
End If

Set oNameSpace = oApp.GetNamespace("MAPI")
Set oFolder = oNameSpace.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderCalendar)

CheckAppointment = False
For Each oObject In oFolder.Items
If oObject.Class = olAppointment Then
Set oApptItem = oObject
If oApptItem.Start = argCheckDate Then
CheckAppointment = True
End If
End If
Next oObject

Set oApp = Nothing
Set oNameSpace = Nothing
Set oApptItem = Nothing
Set oFolder = Nothing
Set oObject = Nothing

End Function

For this to work you need to have Tools/References/Microsoft Outlook xx Object Library enabled.
Then alter your macro like this

Code:

Private Sub cmdOutApt_Click()
' Create the Outlook session
Set myOutlook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
' Start at row 2
r = 2
Do Until Trim(Cells(r, 1).Value) = "&q... Read more

In excel how to delete duplicated rows, I have long list and I want to remove duplicate entries easily because it is difficult to remove each and every one individually:

Answer:how to delete duplicate entries in excel

Since you say that the rows are duplicates, I'll assume that the entries in Column A contain duplicates. We will use that to our advantage.Assuming that the duplicate rows are on Sheet1, try this:On Sheet2 (or any blank worksheet) use the Data...Advanced Filter feature to create a list of unique values from Sheet1 Column A. Place the filtered list in Sheet2!A1.On Sheet3 (or any blank worksheet) use VLOOKUP to pull the data from Sheet1 by looking up the values from the filtered list on Sheet2. Your first VLOOKUP must be placed in Column A.Once the VLOOKUP has pulled all the data into Sheet3, do a Copy...PasteSpecial...Values to remove the formulas but retain the data.To make the VLOOKUP formula easy to autofill, use the COLUMN() function as the col_index_num argument. That will cause the col_index_num to increment by one as you drag it to the right.e.g. In Sheet3 you might have something like this:=VLOOKUP(Sheet2!A1,Sheet1!$A$1:$F$150,COLUMN(),0)Drag this across as wide as your original table in Sheet1 and as far down as the Filtered List in Sheet2.Click Here Before Posting Data or VBA Code ---> How To Post Data or Code.

Consider a simple spreadsheet with two columns; Postcode and door number (column A contains postcode and column B contains door number).In Excel is there a way that the user can be alerted to the fact that the same postcode and door number has already been entered. For example;1) ST4 4XE 222) ST8 2FG 993) ST4 4XE 884) ST4 4XE 22The postcode is entered into cell A4 but when the door number is entered into cell B4 the user will be notified that the same postcode and door numberhas already been entered into A1 and B1. No report will be given for the third line because the door number is different.Thanks again everyonePusherman.

My Search facility doesn't seem to be working & I've gone back several pages to find VoG?'s answer to a recent question about removing duplicates from a spreadsheet.It was using the Data>Filter>Advanced option, then copy unique records only to a new location. I thought I'd done it, but I get the message 'A formula in this worksheet contains one or more invalid references. Verify that your formulas contain a valid path, workbook, range name and cell reference'I'd like to check VoG?'s instruction to see what I'm doing wrong - can anyone remember where the thread is, please? I tried to ask this question in another section but did not get much feed back. Perhaps this is a better section.
Some months ago I upgraded my Win 8.1 Surface Pro 3 to Win 10 and decided to start using Microsoft One Drive including my Lumia 950. I had always used POP 3 accounts in Outlook and followed the guidance from this website to establish an Outlook exchange Active x account. This successfully established the email (2) account and things seem to have transferred successfully. While I do not use the email(2) account and it is not my defaut account, it remains in the outlook home screen, which is not just distracting, it appears to somehow get selected as the email account and gets used accidentally. In addition, the contacts and calendar are duplicates. Calendar not so bad, as I can select which one to show and use, but it remains, but the contacts are actively duplicate which is always causing an issue.
How can I eliminate this duplication and suppress the 2nd. email account?
To clarify, I have office installed and am using Outlook, not the mail app. I do not believe the approach suggested will work.

Answer:Duplicate entries in outlook

I remember seeing your post, I can't remember what reply I gave.
I have outlook 2016 installed and I just added my account. Now in options > people - there's an option for show duplicate contacts - I don't know if that changes anything?
I get the feeling I relied the same way last time and honestly I'm trying to help but I don't have much experience with the outlook program.
I would suggest you contacting MS chat support and explaining the issue to them. From my own expereience, they are very helpful

Does anyone have a macro that will delete row that have duplicate cells in same row other columns?

Answer:Excel Macro to delete row with duplicate cells

Hi

Are you looking to delete rows that have duplicate data but the duplicate data is in different columns?
Can you give a small example?

If the duplicate values are in the same column then you can use the 'remove duplicates' tool.
Select the rows/columns then go to DATA and you should see the REMOVE DUPLICATES tool.

Hello,

I have 2 data sheets in an Excel workbook that have ~8000 rows of data each. Each row has 2 columns. Col A is an entity ID and Col B contains a set of long string values (i.e., institutional affiliation and location), each value separated by a semicolon (. More specifically, Col A is a paper ID#, Col B includes the institutional affiliations for each author.

What I need to do is to take the distinct values in Col B and separate them into individual rows for data processing. Also, when I separate the values, I need to retain the relationship between the values in Col B and Col A. That is, I need to put each institutional affiliation in its own row, but ensure that the relationship to the paper remains intact. Put another way, I want to cut everything that follows a ; in Col B, insert a row, paste what I cut into the next row in Col B, and then go back up one row, over one cell, copy the unique ID, go down one cell, and paste.

So here is my problem: when I execute the find function in Excel 2008 and search for the semicolon, it returns the entire cell. Normally, if one executes a find command, it highlights the character. The next logical step would be a shift+end to highlight the remainder of the text to the end of the line. This does not work because the find command returns the entire cell. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this? Right now I am thinking I need to export the data into another program, execute the find and replace, and then re-import the data... Read more

Posted this yesterday, but I can't find it.
I've synced my Android phone's address book with the contacts in Outlook Express using HTC Sync. After doing that I've got loads of duplicate entries with the same contact name -- it's seemingly treated them as separate entries if, for instance, I've added a mobile number to the name on my phone.
Is there any software that can simply combine all entries that have the same contact name, please? My thought is to correct the version on my PC, then delete the phone's address book completely, and then transfer the corrected Outlook Express contacts to the phone.

Answer:How to delete duplicate entries in Outlook Express contacts?

Very frustrating and I've been there too. Your suggested method is what I had to do which was a right pain in the proverbial.
Subsequently I set up another address book in Outlook and regularly, before syncing again, delete the entries in the backup and copy the master addresses to it. That ensures that if it happens again I can reverse the process.
I have a Samsung and what I had missed in the syncing program was a simple setting that gave me the option to "Sync as Outlok Data" (or Phone data or notify conflicts) and more imortantly not to allow duplicates.

Hi,

Thought I would say hi first as I'm now here.

I have been looking at thread 541487 and I was wondering if it could be expanded to cover a couple of items:

1. Check for duplicate entries already in Outlook, or maybe to set a flag against each row once created in Outlook (The spreadsheet I'm using will be continuously added to)

2. If a column has a an AD username to check the username against the calendar being created in and to only create items that match

I have attached an example.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well my title pretty much says my problem.

Why is Internet Explorer, when opening one window, creating two IE.exe entries in the task manager? This serves to eat up system resources, especially as I begin to use the windows more and more, and open more of them, to a point where ONE window would create FOUR entries, two of which were over 100mb in resource usage.

On a potentially related note, I recently installed a second harddrive slaved to my primary one. Could this be related?

Hey guys, I had some great assistance from computerman29642 earlier on this macro. It works perfectly on my own calendar; however, I need to target a specific shared calendar. Hopefully it could be user imput by a msg box. I am struggling to find information on how to do this.

The first thread was this
http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/835748-solved-excel-macro-outlook-calendar.html

So, as for now the example works. But before it writes to the calendar I want a msg box pops up asking for the desired calendar(Sometimes more than one word), and then target that calendar and write the data. A simple little box that confirms or denies progress (I am pretty sure I can figure that one out) Any suggestions or directions where I can learn more fire away please. Ill attach a copy of my test again.

When Installing a new program -- Firefox for example - is there anyway to:
1) get or generate a listing on what directories and registry entries the program creates?
2) get or generate a listing on what directories and registry entries for already installed programs?

For security reasons it seems logical that one would need this to set security access for those objects.

Answer:Determining What Directory(s) and Registry Entries Program Creates

You can do that with software that traces installations.
I cannot say which software I use because it comes bundled with unwanted extras that are hard to avoid installing and hard to remove. Maybe you could search for similar software.

One alternative: DiffView Free Download - Official Website

However these types of applications monitor all file system and registry changes during install so you need to know which items to exclude. I'm not sure how you do that in DiffView as I have not used it for a while.

Hi,

I am an extremely basic user who has managed to get a basic macro together through multiple web searches and am now stuck...

I have dates entered into the following columns in excel: 14,15,16,26,27,28

I have managed to make the macro create appointments for 14,15,16 but not the rest. Also, every time i run the macro it creates a new appointment regardless if one already exists. I saw on this forum about adding a word to another column which the macro searches for and if found doesnt create a new appointment - or something to that extent. Here is what i have:

Sub POATEST()
' Create the Outlook session
Set myOutlook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")

' Start at row 7
r = 7

Do Until Trim(Cells(r, 1).Value) = ""
For Each cell In Range(Cells(r, 14), Cells(r, 16))
If cell.Value <> "" Or 0 Then

' Create the AppointmentItem
Set myApt = myOutlook.createitem(1)

' Set the appointment properties
myApt.Subject = Cells(r, 1).Value & " " & "Update Due"
myApt.Start = cell.Value
myApt.categories = "Yellow Category"
myApt.ReminderSet = True
myApt.Body = "blah blah blah"
myApt.Save
End If
Next cell
r = r + 1
Loop
End Sub

Please can someone assist by:
1. making it apply for all the columns originally mentioned
2. making it search if an appointment for that item (ie that row) exists - if not, create appt, if so, do not create appt and insert "Yes" in column 29

A- Discription B- Start -C Finish

So, in the Calendar in outlook it would show a discription and connect the dates in B and C to the days in the Calendar. I don't know if it can be done. At my current state I can't figure out how to get even one to move over. Any suggestions on where to start??

Hi, We are a team of 25 who all use the same contact list (which contains addresses, organisation name, tel numbers, emails, contact names etc for approx 600 organisations). We regularly have to bcc all these contacts in to emails. We previously all held the distribution lists (sorted alphabetically by email) and had to let the rest of the team know when details changed so they could be updated by all. The problem with this was that the distribution lists do not hold all the information needed (e.g. addresses, organisation names) and contact information was not always updated as it should have been. I have updated an excel spreadsheet containing all the information and I would like to create a macro for all the team to periodicaly import this data in to Outlook Contacts and possibly create distribution lists from these. I trust this makes sense I am using Outlook 2003.
Thanks

I need a macro that will 1) create a new outlook folder, then 2) create new Outlook distribution lists from data in an Excel sheet.

The Excel sheet has columns:
A - ID
B - DEPARTMENT_DESC
C - STUDENT_LEVEL_DESC
D - MAJOR_DESC
E - PROGRAM_DESC
F - EMAIL_ADDRESS
G - LAST_NAME
H - FIRST_NAME

The first entry begins in row 2 with row 1 being the column title.

I need a new distribution list to be created for each department (column B) and each student level (column C). (Column B will only ever be one of 6 values, column C will only ever be one of 2 values. Therefore, the macro should create 8 distribution lists.)

I have looked at threads similar to this question but I can't seem to get anything working.

Good Morning,

I have very limited knowledge when it comes to Macros and VBA.

What I need is one of two possible scenarios.

1. Information from a Training Assignment PivotTable exported to a shared calendar on Outlook.
2. Information from a Training Calendar bulit as a Macro in Excel exported to a shared calendar on Outlook and the ability to update either calendar if new information becomes available.

Don't know which is best using code via VBA or using the Export/Import functions.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi there,

I have to prepare several daily emails which are prepared using a range of data (for example B3122) from Excel 2003 and then have to be sent using Outlook 2003. Unfortunately, due to various management requirements I am unable to merely attach the Excel file as an attachment or paste the Excel data into the email as a straight paste - I have to paste as Unformatted text and then manually change various lines of the email to Bold and Underlined text.
I am trying to write a macro that will do this automatically but am unable to get the Excel data pasted into Outlook (as unformatted text or otherwise). I am assuming that for the font changes to bold I will have to use a Find function in the macro.

The code that I have got so far is as follows:

Range("B3122").Select
selection.Copy

Dim olApp As Object, olMail As Object
Set olApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")

Set olMail = olApp.CreateItem(0)
olMail.To = "[email protected]"
olMail.Subject = Range("B3")
olMail.Display

I am new to VBA and so I may be missing a really obvious solution but after trawling the net I have been unable to find an answer.

Many thanks to anyone that can help and make my work a lot less tedious!

Hi there!

So I've found the code below here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Calendar/thread?tid=5e4909ca64cffe90&hl=en - Full credit goes to user 'tpuiatti'

Code:
Sub Generate_ICS()
Dim rng1 As Range, X, i As Long, v As Long
Dim objFSO, objFile
Dim FilePath As String
FilePath = "G:\Service.ics"
Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objFile = objFSO.CreateTextFile(FilePath)
Set rng1 = Range([a5], Cells(Rows.Count, "H").End(xlUp))
X = rng1

objFile.write "BEGIN:VCALENDAR" & vbCrLf
For i = 1 To UBound(X, 1)
objFile.write "BEGIN:VEVENT" & vbCrLf & "DTSTART:" & Format(X(i, 2), "yyyymmdd") & vbCrLf & "DTEND:" & Format(X(i, 2), "yyyymmdd") & vbCrLf & "RRULE:FREQ=YEARLY" & _
vbCrLf & "SUMMARY:" & X(i, 1) & vbCrLf & "END:VEVENT" & vbCrLf
Next i
objFile.write "END:VCALENDAR"
End Sub

This code takes the info from 2 columns in Excel: A which is the event title and B which is the event date. Then it export these informations to an .ics file which will add the event dates to the Oulook Calendar.

The macro and the .ics work perfectly, however i wan't to make a few changes/additions to fit my needs. Additionally I wan't this macro to:

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anybody on these forums could help me with the below task?

I run a backup program that generates email reports to a subfolder in my Outlook 2010 every 6-8 hours to tell me the status of every backup job that I have set up and have running. The email details the job name, the job start time, and the job status (running, completed successfully, failed, missed, cancelled etc).

At the moment, I sift through each and every one of these emails (I have over 100 backup jobs per day) and enter the relevant data manually into my excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet looks like the following:

Job name Monday 1st Oct Tuesday 2nd Oct Wednesday 3rd Oct Thursday 4th Oct
Job_xxx SUCCESS SUCCESS FAILED FAILED
Job_yyy SUCCESS SUCCESS SUCCESS RUNNING
Job_zzz MISSED MISSED CANCELLED SUCCESS

What I’d like is to automate this process, so that each day, perhaps every 4 hours, a script would run that would search for certain values within each email I receive and update the excel sheet accordingly.

Example:

- Monday 1st Oct, 10am – email comes into inbox with subject/body containing “Job_xxx has started “ >>>> update Excel sheet to record RUNNING under column ‘Monday’ in row titled 'job_xxx'
- Monday 1st Oct, 1pm – email comes into inbox with subject/body containing “job_xxx completed successfully” >>>> update Excel sheet to record SUCCESS, ... Read more

Ok, just a bit of advice needed on this one for the time being...
I need a macro that will:

- Save all (Excel) attachments from the currently open email message (or a message selected in the Inbox) to a directory on the PC.

- Merge all the saved Excel files into a single file - they're all formated exactly the same - data in about 20 columns, no column headers or anything, just standardised data.

- Save the merged file with a standard name (i.e. every time this is ran, it needs to have the exact same filename).

- Delete all the files in the directory apart from the merged file.

I know there's probably a fair bit of code online for doing the individual parts of this. Can I do both from within Outlook? It doesn't particularly matter if I need to do this in 2 steps - an Outlook macro to save the attachements, and an Excel macro to do the file merge etc.

Cheers.

Good Afternoon,

I'm quite stuck trying to fix my code. I've scoured the internet looking for similar questions, but to no avail. I am trying to have excel create appointments in the outlook calendar and be able to run the macro multiple times without have duplicate appointments.

I could run my macro and create an appointment, which worked fine, but there was no routine to check if the appointment already existed. So I would have multiple appointment alerts for the same appointment if I ran the macro more than once. (If I were to add something and run the macro again to keep everything up to date).

So I tried to add a loop checking first the date of the appointment then the title (subject). However, now, I am getting the "Object doesn't support this property or method" error when I run the following code.

If anyone could help me with what the error refers to specifically in my code or any code I need to add or take out to make my loop work I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much in advance.
Code:

Sub ExportAppointmentsToOutlook()
Dim olApp As Outlook.Application
Dim olApt As AppointmentItem
Dim blnCreated As Boolean

Dim olCalendarFolder As Outlook.MAPIFolder 'use MAPI to loop through folder
Dim olMessage As Object 'items in calendar/inbox are messages
Dim olInboxMessages As Object
Dim olAppSession As Outlook.Namespace

Question: Duplicate entries

I am running "XP Home User" My son has installed on my PC my own user name "Enoch". However I am the only user on my system. When I go into my Wndows Explorer I see "My Documents" which obviously shows the files I have put in. Further down the list I see "Enoch's PC" which contains a "My Documents" which contains the SAME entries. I have tested by creating a "New Folder" in one My Documents, which then appears in the other "My Documents. When I delete "New Folder" it is deleted from BOTH My Documents. My question is; how can I delete Enoch's User and therefore files within but, nevertheless keep all the files that are duplicated in the "main "My Documents".

Hi All,I recently joined this board and already I received lots and lots of help. I hope it will be okay to ask another question.Is there a way that we can check for duplicate entries in a spreadsheet. Actually just duplicate entries in one particular column.For example I paste info from columns A to E from sheet 1 to row 10 in sheet 2. Is there a way we can be prompted if the entry in row 10 column E matches an earlier entry under column E??? It doesn't necessarily have to be a message box or anything. Even highlighting the cell is enough.

Answer:Check for duplicate entries

Here is one way using Conditional Formatting:1st - Highlight Column Data Cells I.E. Cells E1 thru E100On the Menu Bar:2nd - Format3rd - Conditional Formatting4th ? Change ?Cell Value is? to ?Formula Is?5th ? Enter the formula:=COUNTIF($E$1:$E$100,E1)>1Sub Menu Format :6th - Patterns7th - Choose a pretty color8th - Press OK9th - Press OKAll your duplicate records should now be highlighted in your selected pretty colorMIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/

I installed a LinkSys wireless PCMCIA card on a IBM Thinkpad 760XL with Win98SE. All appears OK, except each time I boot up, I get an info panel saying the card has a problem. I hit OK and the boot continues to completion, and the card works fine. I checked the Device Manager and found two entries for the wireless card. One is clean and the other has a yellow ! by it. I can delete the one with the yellow !, but when I reboot, it appears again. I have tried removing and reinstalling the card several times.

Is there anything else I can check to eliminate the duplicate network entries and the info panel that comes with each boot. Also....I do not get the problem with a restart boot....only with a power up boot. ??? Thanks.

xp pro sp3. I am missing some registry entries needed to run system restore. I downloaded a registry patch from Microsoft which has these missing entries as well as some of the needed entries which are already in my registry. Should I a; run the patch as is and thereby create some duplicates, and then delete the duplicates, or b; delete all the entries first and then run the patch,or c; edit the patch to remove what would become duplicates. Perhaps any of these would do the job, but when it comes to registry editing I like to be extra careful. Since my system restore isn't working, I can't make a backup of my registry unless I install some third party program which I don't want to do. esmo

I have a USB hub with 2 external hard drives attached to it, and an HP printer.

As I understand it, every time you unplug and replug a USB device into another USB port on your computer (on that hub or otherwise) it makes another entry for it.

Right now under device manager under USB controllers, I have 8 entries for USB root hub, 2 for USB composite device, and several for USB host controller and USB2 enhanced host controller (though they are not exactly the same- for example USB host controller has a number after each entry that is different from the rest)

I tried uninstalling everything under USB controllers, in the hope that it would be resolved when I shut down and rebooted, it looks like some of the entries are gone, but I still have the duplicates. I did this mainly so that my hard drives would work properly, as they don't always show up under my computer.

Hi everyone,

We are having a problem here that I have never encountered before. We have a few workstations that have the same entry for the display adapter installed twice. When you click on the one that is listed first and try to disable it or delete it you get a message that says that you can not perform that operation because the device is being deleted. If you remove or disable the one that is listed second whenever you restart the computer it comes right back.

The reason this was brought to my attention is because the users who have this happening have to reset their display settings (screen resolution) every day.

When I go into Safe Mode and look at the device manager there is only one display adapter listed. When I remove it their and restart the computer and log in normally. They are both back with the same scenario I explained earlier.

HP Pavilion Vista Premium 64 bit.
I had to do a system restore after having this new system only a few days (shareware supposed to be compatible with x64 wasn't).
After that restore, I restored files from HP Easy Backup. I won't use this again because you have no control over what is backed up or restored. But the files seem to be restored properly, except the Start Menu.
When I go to "All programs," I get the programs including some empty folders for software I haven't yet reinstalled. BUT I also have a folder labelled "Programs" (within "All Programs") and when I open that folder, I find all my program shortcuts repeated.

I checked the User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and
Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and neither has that extra folder named "Programs."

Vista won't allow me to delete the folder. I tried to delete a shortcut within the folder but it removed both instances of the shortcut.
Any ideas for this Vista newbie?

In addition to Evernote, the other programs with double entries are Malwarebytes and ShareX. Both entries (for each program), point to the same .exe file. What is very curious is that neither entry launches the program. They are just useless entries in the start menu.

Any idea how to fix this?

Answer:Duplicate Start Menu Entries

The locations of start menu shortcuts is similar to what it always has been.

Folder paths are given here:
All apps in Start menu - Add or Remove Items in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Customization Tutorials
If you explore the relevant folders, you may be able to resolve this as you can delete (or add) shortcuts in the relevant folder.

Another approach might be to use install and use the Classic Shell start menu, and manipulate shortcuts using that in a familiar (to Win 7 users) drag 'n drop manner and right click /delete, open file location....

Hello,

Under the IDE devices tab in XP task manger,there are duplicate entries for the IDE channels and two (different) IDE controllers? This didn't used to be the case and I am wondering if it might have anything to do with my computer not functioning up to par?

Answer:Duplicate entries in Task Mangaer!

Are you talking about the Device Manager? becuase the Task Manager should not list your IDE controllers at all.

Hello,

I noticed duplicate entries in Device Manager for Processor (CPU twice) and IDE Controllers (Primary and Secondary and PCI twice).

I read that I should go into Safe mode and uninstall all entries and let Windows rebuild. I did this but as Windows was rebuilding, it repeated the entries twice and and they were all duplicated again.

I built the computer: ASUS PC4-800, Intel P4 3.2, 1G DDR. At another forum, a person had the exact same problem with the same mobo and CPU.

Hi,I have run 3 reports and downloaded these each onto an XL 95 sheet for work and part of the report is reference numbers. I now need to identify any reference numbers that appear across any 2 or all 3 of these reports.This detail is held in a single column on each report, but not in the same place [i.e. column S on one sheet and column W on another]. Is there any way that XL can list copy entries or highlight duplicate numbers appearing? At the moment they are on separate XL sheets, but the detail can be copied & pasted easily enough - either to a single worksheet, across different tabs or left on the each original report, which ever is easier.There are over 2,000 lines per report and I have tried to list the detail per reference number but there are just so many numbers!! I am hoping to make this checking both faster and more accurate!TIAPaul

Hello All,

I just looked at Device Manager on my Windows 8.1 Pro desktop PC and when showed hidden devices I noticed that I have several duplicate entries for the same hardware. Here is a screenshot:

The only thing I can think of that might have caused this was that I just did a clean install of Windows. When the installation was complete I then installed all the drivers that came with my MSI motherboard and some of these drivers were the same and so Windows makes a copy and adds -1, 2, etc. to the name? If the drivers were duplicated why wouldn't Windows just overwrite the old one instead of copying it? Seems to me that would just fill up the registry with excess entries.

Can anyone tell me why these are there and if it's safe to remove the ones that are hidden? More generally, is it safe to remove hidden devices (duplicates or not)?

Thank you,

Jan

I really would not worry too much about it. Leave them be. Otherwise when you remove them, you are going to be back here asking why your OS is not working correctly.

For some reason I seem to have a lot of duplicate entries in my Outlook Express address book. (Perhaps I imported more than once from another mail program?) I am wondering whether anyone knows how to easily remove all of the duplicates without having to go through every single entry and laboriously do it manually.

I have a really neat Outlook Express repair utility called "Outlook Express Repair - ScanDBX" but it doesn't seem to have an option to clean up the address book entries.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!!

I've always just right clicked on the duplicate and deleted it, which isn't too slow, if you don't have more than 20-30 of them. If there is a neat trick to do all the duplicates at once, I'd like to learn it, too!

I just finished an install of Windows XP on a new PC I just built. I have an Asus motherboard and video card, and I installed the drivers on the cds that came with each. I have an Intel P4 3.2 ghz processor, and everything seems to be working properly. However, there are some duplicate entries in the Device Manager. Under Processors, it has my CPU listed twice, and under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, the following are all listed twice : Intel Ultra ATA Storage Controllers, Primary IDE Channel, Secondary IDE Channel. I tried to uninstall one of each, but it they didn't go away. It doesn't appear to be hurting anything, just a little bit of an annoyance. Thanks for any help!

I have duplicate entries in the Start - Programmes in XP Pro. It has been happening for a while and I have ignored it, but now it is beginning to rankle.Any ideas how I can stop this happening please.

Answer:Duplicate Entries In Start - Programmes

I assume you are using the 'Classic' start menu - if you go to Start - Settings - 'Taskbar and Start Menu' there is a 'customize' option on the Start Menu page, and using the 'advanced' buttom you will directed to the start menu folder (you could navigate to it in explorer but it's quicker this way), and you can then delete the offending duplicates. They are only shortcuts so deleting them is OK.

Hy all!I am trying to highlight duplicate entries from different worksheets using conditional formating and is not woking. I've found this formula =NOT(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A1;bannedworkers;1;0))) but it not works ; i'm using excell 2003.I have two worksheets;in the first sheet on the first column (A) named bannedworkers I have a list of banned workers and in the second sheet on the first column (A) I have a list with workers. I want that when I type a banned workers name in the second sheet, first column, the cell to highlight in the color chosen in the conditional formatting. I've used this formula in conditional formating but it not works =NOT(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A1;myColumn;1;0))).What is the problem???

Answer:Highlight duplicate entries multiple sheets

You should be able to accomplish what you want, but you will need to use a Named Rangein the first sheet on the first column (A) named bannedworkers Select your range of cells, IE A1 thru A50On the Task Bar/Ribbon Select FormulasSelect Define NameIn the Name Box, give your range of cells an appropriate name like: NameListClick OKin the second sheet on the first column (A) I have a list with workers. I want that when I type a banned workers name in the second sheet, first column, the cell to highlight in the color chosen in the conditional formatting. On your second sheet where you want the Condition Formatting to go:Conditional Formatting 20071) Select your range of cells: IE A1 thru A502) On the ribbon click Conditional Formatting3) Click on New Rules, it?s near the bottom of the dialog box.4) Click Use Formula to determine which cells to format.5) Enter the formula: =COUNTIF(NameList,A1)=1EDIT: Shorter formula: =COUNTIF(NameList,A1)6) Click on the Format button7) Select the Fill Tab8) Select a pretty color9) Click OK10) Click OKSee how that works for you.Just be aware that the names have to be Exactly the same, and spaces are considered characters.MIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/

I have a problem with my Boot Menu. I have Windows 7 installed on C: and was the first OS installed. Later I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on J: (second drive) and could select between them.

I used a program which installed another entry into the Boot Menu and went to get rid of it with EasyBCD and this removed it in it's eyes. However when I check with MSConfig it shows the original entry, The Server entry and then the original entry.

Selecting either original entry boots to Windows 7. However they both appear to be the same entry as selecting either one in MSConfig to delete one clears the delete button. Doing it from the Server allows me to delete it but then deletes both entries.

How can I clear the second entry without killing my boot?

Answer:Boot Menu Troubles (duplicate entries)

Hello Veldthui,

You could check using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to see if that may be able to help you remove this stray boot entry. Just be sure to double check the "Description" of the boot entry to help not delete the wrong one though.

I normally log on to Windows 10 Home (a clean install) with my User Account. Let's call my User Account "Jerry".
When I need to run something as admin, I enter my administrative account password in the UAC screen. Let's call my admin account "Tom".
"Tom" and "Jerry" are linked to two Microsoft accounts of mine.
So far, so good.

What's weird, though, UAC lists "Tom" twice. Both entries share exactly the same name (my Microsoft account name, not the local name) and same email address.
Only difference is, one entry shows my icon pic, the other is blank.
Both of them accept the same password (Microsoft account password) and both of them do unblock UAC successfully.
Question #1: Should I do something about it and remove the duplicate entry (how?), or just ignore this "Windows oddity"?

In case it helps, my admin account is with the following groups: Administrators, Users and Home Users.

Besides, I have to tell you I changed the computer name after install, then I also did something in User Accounts like adding a description to "Jerry" into the description field.
I am not 100% sure whether there's cause and effect, but after a while I noticed something weird had happened: "Tom" the admin was not an admin any longer, just a limited user (I had to add it to Administrators again, now it works fine), and "Jerry" the user was not in any groups any longer, it wasn't even showing on th... Hello, I have just joined the windows phone community few days ago getting a nokia lumia 630. I really like the smoothness and simplicity of the OS compared to my previous top-end android device.
I have one minor problem: I have initially registered the phone to a new microsoft account created using my existing gmail email address which is listed on the phone as an Outlook account, but then decided to give a try to the new outlookdotcom email service and therefore I have signed up and created a new outlookdotcom email account on the phone. The issue is that all my contacts and calendar entries are now duplicated both on the outlook and outlookdotcom accounts.
If I delete a contact one one of the two the other is deleted too after few minutes so I cannot remove duplicates, but changing the number in one contact for some reason does not alway update the corresponding one, so there is the risk of having obsolete numbers left lurking around. I can disable the synchronization of contacts and calendar on the outlookdotcom account, but I'd rather keep this on to have a copy of the contacts on the outlookdotcom website. Any suggestion?
As a last resort, I am wondering if resetting the phone and registering this time with the new outlookdotcom email address will solve the problem. Thanks.

Answer:lumia 630 phone accounts duplicate entries

If you haven't gone too far into setting up your phone, then it may be simpler to reset the phone and start with the new outlook email.
However, you may want to try merging the contacts and seeing if it will unify the info, but that will be tedious and time consuming.

Shared folders get multiple listings in explorer, e.g. Fonts, Fonts~1, Fonts~2 etc.

It doesn't matter how often I delete/unshare, they keep coming back. See attached screenshot.

It happens with ordinary shares ans NetworkMagic ones.

Wish I had an answer but I don't at this time. On the xp server you can just delete the unwanted folders, I have not found that to be as easy on the win7 machine.

Hello My name is Andrew, and I have a weird one.
When I Right Click On certain files I receive 2 open with context menu options.
One works, and the other doesn't.
more specifically, when I right click on a document file I receive 2 of the menus,
when I right click on an "unknown file type" I only receive the one - the one that doesn't work.
when I right click on Mp3's or other known media types, I still get only the one "Open With" that doesn't work.
The Open with that doesn't work Gives me a file association error which makes me think it's a shell issue so...

I have spent a couple hours on ShellExView and ShellMenuView removing all non-microsoft shell menu's and i even un-selected hide standard menu items to see if I could find this duplicate "Open With"
If I do a registry edit, I can remove all the context menu's but that one, which is weird, including the "Open (openas)" and "OpenDLG" Just to see if those were it, I ended up only removing the working "Open" Context Menu to which I have put back.

I frequently change file associations via the properties context menu. Sometimes I open Batch files to edit them with notepad and "Open With" is normally very useful for me. So changing default file associations is not really what I need help with.

Thank you to anyone who responds.
Attached are a few Images of what happens.

Hey guys basically i have an ASus ux301la (zenbook infinity) and i noticed that after installing Displaylinks software (port replicator software) my default sound device was called (USB AUDIO) and that my Realtek sound device kind of went missing (no sound devices on the playback tab in the sound settings). I had no backups at teh time as its a new laptop and i really dont want to re-install 8.1 from scratch as it took me over a day to configure this thing to my personal config.

so i uninstalled the diplaylink software and uninstalled/reinstalled the sound drivers from the asus site and each time i did so it would create a new sound entry, hence all teh duplicates. Now i still have a problem because although sound works, i have to manually select the correct playback device in VLC player and i cannot see any sound devices in the playback tab on SOUND settings. Any advice welcome

Answer:Duplicate sound device entries in volume mixer

Go to the Device Manager. There are probably multiple entries there too. If there are, uninstall them all (but do not uninstall the drivers). To Uninstall, RIGHT click on an entry to highlight it and then LEFT click "uninstall". Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect the sound and reinstall it. That should get you back to just one,

I have a folder, called "HG", full of various folder shortcuts which I use as a custom toolbar on my taskbar, system is [email protected] (The very purpose of that toolbar is to let me access HG repositories on various folders). Recently, the folder shortcuts started misbehaving: on the context menu, there are duplicated some entries (7-zip and antivirus), and some entries are missing (by Murphy's law, one is the "HG Repository explorer", which is the very reason that toolbar exists).

However, when I open the Windows Explorer and navigate to the same folder, the context menu on these same items works just fine.

(Bizarrely, if I click on the taskbar toolbar and select "Open Folder", the context menu is wrong even from Explorer).

See the image below: on the top is the "Good" menu, on the bottom the "Bad" one. Note that on "bad" one, I have some entries which are appropriate for a regular file, but not for a folder (Edit with Notepad++, 7-zip:Open archive...).

I've done the homework and searched the net and this Forum, and a similar problem is described here:

I was having trouble with my cheap NIC so I got another one. It didn't work at all so i put the old one back in.

Now Windows is calling my NIC "adaptor #2" and my LAN "local area connection #2." This in spite of my having uninstalled the NICs before changing them.

I've seen this before, mostly when changing modems or whatever in Win98. The problem is now i have -another- new NIC and i want to start clean. There are references all through the registry to my original NIC, the intermediary defective one, and the "#2" that I put back in. I'm just guessing here... probly have 4 configurations after i install my new card.

How can i get rid of all this junk? I'm scared to mess with network stuff in the registry. And none of these are in the device manager, since i unistalled them.

Thank You

Hello experts, Hope you are doing well.

I had installed Windows 8.1 Pro. Along with it, I had tried to install Linux with it. After complete linux installation when I rebooted, I was getting duplicate boot entries in bios setup. I have searched on internet and found this tutorial to delete duplicate entries.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...=ws.10%29.aspx

I have deleted the boot entries using this tutorial and restarted but now after restart, it stuck on the Lenovo welcome page and says, Press F2 to enter setup and F12 to enter MultiBoot Menu. On pressing F2 or F12, it says "Please Wait" and nothing happens after that.

Please help me. I am stuck here and my laptop is of no use right now because of this.

Thanks and Regards

Answer:Bios does not open after deleting duplicate boot entries

Linux is not going to change the Bios settings. Unless you set the Bios to only require F2. You have to hold the Fn & press F2.
