Question: Add Contacts from Outook to Access database

I created a database in Access 2007. I am a relative newbe at this. One of the functions that I am using is a macro that Microsoft supplied as part of a Contacts table/form template to add Contacts from Outlook to the Contacts table in the the database. It was working just fine until I split the database, putting the tables on a server and the front end on my local PC. After splitting, it will no longer work. I have spent hours searching the Web and found 100's for people asking the same question, but no solution. Front and back end files are all in Trusted locations. Went back to a copy of the pre-split database (which still worked) and copy the object to the new split database. Would not work in the new database. . Saw some talk about using a temp Contacts table, but it did not give enough detail for me to follow.

I have a client that wants to import the contact information from his Access database into his Outlook. I don't really have much in the way of programming skills, and I'm not quite sure what to do. I know that Outlook will not do this by default. Any suggestions?

It depends on the Access database. How are you going to get the data out of it? Did the developer make an export function? If not, it would be very simple to make a query that grabs the needed information. That query could be exported as a CSV that Outlook could import.

Outlook 2007 will also grab data directly from Access 97-2003, but it has to be set up properly.

Microsoft have virtually forced Android Outlook users onto their new Outlook. I use Outlook on my Nexus 7. Since installing the new Outlook I find that the Contacts doesn't fully synchronize. It worked fine under the old Outlook. It seems to need loads of time to populate the Contacts file, and some of the details still have not filled in fully yet. Can anyone shed light on this issue

i have a csv file with my contacts from old outlook. how can i import all the contacts in one go into outlook 2007? i know how to do individually but have a lot of contacts

Read this. Although for Excel it should work for any csv file. Map custom fields is fairly important.
It would have been easier to have created a pst file of your old contacts (export as pst) and then imported that.

I searched for a topic similar to mine, but I found none. So, here goes...

I currently have a database that tracks my contacts in numerous ways. However, the place I'm building this database for often holds events that these contacts attend. I created an events database (using a template), and then exported it to my current database. Ultimately, I would like to be able to show which contacts were scheduled to attend the event and which contacts actually attended, both in the contacts area and in the events area.

Any thoughts on how to set that up?

Hello. Well heres is what i am looking for. I need to keep a client list. The list needs a static field which would be customer information..name, address ect, but also contain some written notes. I also need to be able to pull up that "card" and enter/track on what date did said customer come into the business.
Am I looking at something like an Excel spreadsheet?....People have told me Outlook but Im not sure if thats what i need. Any input?

Right now it's in Access 2000. I'd like to upgrade Office but don't want to keep paying for Professional, so I'm looking for something I can put it into. (This is the only thing I do in Access any more.)

Primary requirement is that I be able to assign multiple categories to each contact, then print mailing labels for everybody in a category.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Here's the question- how do I open a form in an existing database from another db in Access 2010 using VBA and give it focus. I can open the external db and it's form but cannot figure how to give it focus. I'm trying to create a master form that will call various databases that each have a form. Seems simple, open the master menu, click on a button that then opens the called db and the associated form. Do my business exit the db and am back at the master form. I would be okay to just close the master db, all it has it the main menu or leave it open. Doesn't matter which I just want to open the called db and form and have its focus.

Hi,
I don't support Access, nor have I been trained in it, but I've been asked if I can help in this problem.
An Access database connects externally to a SQLServer database at login time for the application. How do I find which external database they are connecting to? I know that there is a way to go behind the forms to see the source code, but I cant remember how to do this.
I cannot find an obvious User/System file dsn on the PC to give me a clue.

My "contacts" database for email (Thunderbird/Gmail) contains hundreds of email addresses. My iPhone contacts list is something that has been constructed over the years by using the phone, and is different from my email contacts. Roughly 75% of the individuals are the same, and both databases need to be updated because of duplicates, outdated entries, etc.

Is there a way to construct one database that can be imported to both my phone, iPad, and desktop computer that will serve for phone numbers and email addresses? I also use my phone for hands free calls in my car with voice recognition, if that makes a difference.

I'm pretty good with databases and spreadsheets, and would like to make a CSV file that I could edit and save to my desktop and mobile devices.

I have inadvertently lost around 650 very important contacts from outlook 2002 sp3I was syncing a new pocket pc which wiped them off I then synced my own which cleared it, a day later i was horrified to see all my precious contacts gone, I tried a system restore on the PC to no avail and I tried to run a restore on one of the PPC's but no success.Is there anyone out there who can helpthanksLen

You'll need to use the backup copy of the outlook *.pst file assuming you made one of course. It's all stored in that pst file.

Hi,

I've been given the task of finding software which will enable a customer contact list to be maintained and be accessible anywhere by multi users, this contact list should then be available to create email mail shots as well os postal mail shots.

I can find software that will maintain a database online, and I see mail merge in Microsoft but I can't seem to find anything that will bring both together and online to enable the multi user, multi locations.
Any ideas?

Access does both database and Mail Merge using VBA, Word and or Reports, but I don't know much about the "Web" based part. I have never actually worked on one on the web.

I have MS Access 2000. I initially created a long book list several years ago. I recently found a template from the MS database for books that I downloaded that I like better. I have tried importing the data from the old database to the new one but with no luck. Both are in Access 2000. I am running Win2K.

I am working for a company that has four people (four different computers) entering data into four different Excel 2010 files on a shared drive. I would like to create a master file on my own computer for the purpose of generating reports. How do I create one Access database that includes all of the information from the four different excel files? Also, can this Access file be continuously updated as the four Excel files are updated each day? Thank you!!!

According to what I've read, Access 2010 uses the same database format as Access 2007. So this should mean I can open and run a 2007 database (with a lot of VBA code) in Access 2010 with no trouble, yes?

So why do I have the feeling that something is not going to work? Is it because I have been through to many Access upgrades?

I have on a Laptop, an Access 2013 program feeding an accdb database. I want to move subject database or a copy of the accdb database to a new PC with Access 2013 installed. Both computers are running on Windows 10. I considered copying the laptop database to my Kingston Data Traveler but I can't even find the directory where the database should be.

The only other thing to add Is that I programmed the record input software using Access 2003 and copied it onto my laptop with Access 2013 installed and which works fine. Later, I saved the MDB database into the Accdb format (Access 7).

Hello All,
Our company had a photo booth with an F-35 fighter jet at a recent technology show. Individuals were allowed to have there pic taken in front of the aircraft with a pretty model. Now I have over 2500 pictures and over 2500 individuals that need their pic emailed to them. I have an Access database with a name, email address and a picture. Each name has a different image. How can I automatically send each person their picture through Outlook? I would like it to automatically populate a new email with the address and corresponding pic then have it be sent on its way while I am home sleeping. Can this be done? Is there a command that can run a VB script in Access to accomplish this? I thank you profusely in advance.

Hi everybody! I have a problem with my MS Access and can’t use the wizard for creating database objects (forms, report, table, queries, etc). Whenever I choose Wizard option to create those database objects, I get the following error message:

Microsoft Access can’t find the wizard, or there is syntax error in the Declaration section of a Visual Basic module.​
The wizard you need may be missing from the libraries key of the Microsoft Access section of the Windows Registry.
To make sure that the wizard is in the Windows Registry, run Setup to reinstall Microsoft Access, and the compile all Visual Basic modules in the database.​
I reinstalled the MS Access as instructed in the message, but I don’t know where to find and compile those Visual Basic modules. I also don’t know how to get to libraries key of the Microsoft Access section of the Windows Registry.

I tried to reinstall the software by using two different versions of software CDs (MS Office 2000 and XP) and both failed to solve the problem. I also tried unsuccessfully to access Add-Ins feature from the Tools menu in order to add the missing component. Please help me!

Funny I had the same error last night. I ran Setup from the CD (from RUN prompt) checked off the access wizard. Then went and did what I was doing, it still asked to install the feature but it worked that time.

If that does not help the is an MS article, basically, if you are in "Break mode" of a module that could also cause it.

Ok I have one more question-a few people have other versions of Access in my program and need to use the database that I created in Access 97. A few people tried and couldn't open it. Is there an easy way to converting this so they can use it on their computers? Thanks for the help.
 

Answer:Access 97 database in Access 2000?

Access should prompt them to either open the DB file or convert it to the newer version on startup. If it doesn't you can open the newer version of Access and go to Tools > Database Utilities > Convert Database.
Warning: Everything in your DB may not convert properly so be ready to do some work if this happens.

When entering a form..the page normally start with a blank page/form..what code can I use in Macro or Visual Basic..to have the form blank..when entering the form..so that you can just add..new data..instead of having to click on add new data..

First, this is really the wrong forum for this question. It should either be in Applications or Development. I only saw this post because I was checking on a post I made here before but I don't usualy visit this forum often.

If you want a form to open ready to take new data, set it's Data Entry property to Yes. (You'll find that property in the Data tab of the forms properties.) If I misunderstood the question, post back and give more details.

I have a database for an engineering project that has 3 main tables. These are the ProjectCode, the Area and the Costs
The ProjectCode has multiple Areas and the Areas have multiple Costs. Data entry to the Costs table includes a [ProjectCode], [Area] and an [Amount Aus]

My Area Table has all the area / project code combinations entered as these all have an individual budget figure that needs the costs to compare to

I want my database to be able to sum up the [Amount Aus] in the costs table and update the field [AmountAus] in the Area table, but only for the costs that match the [ProjectCode] and [Area]

I have an access database, one of the forms I am working with has a subform. I want to be able to print part of the main form, and parts of the suboform. I can do this by inserting the form key number and the subform key number, then it prints what I want. What I am looking for is to be able to be in a clients record and push print and without having to enter anything it prints the fields in the form and the subform that I have in a report. I hope this makes sense. Is there a macro that I can put together to do this?

The simplest way although it may not seem like it, is to do the following:
Create a Join Query that includes both tables/queries (whatever your using), and create Joins on the 2 Key fields (related), this query should then become the control source for you report.
Now in the new query go to the field that contains the data you will be selecting on the form. eg the ID for the Main form

In the criteria row right click and select Build, find your form and find the Id field control name. The syntax will be:

[Forms]![FormName]![ControlName]
Now if you don't already have one, place a button on your form that opens the Report or query, it should only display the records for the selected records.

This called "Filter by Form"
Any problems let me know I or some one else can walk you through, it works I use it all the time.

I need help in creating a database that can be searched.

A 2 digit year entry
A 6 digit numerical entry (need to be able to enter less digits)
A 4 digit numerical entry (need to be able to enter less digits)

I need to be able to search the 6 digit number and have it tell me what 4 digit number is associated with it.

I am hoping I am making this clear...

Generally, calculated data isn't stored in tables. There is no need for it. If you calculate data, you use it in queries or reports . . . when you create a report, you base it on your query, not your table.

I have a requirement to allow the user to do a 'compact and repair' from the system I have developed. I have looked at some code online and tried the following:

Hi i created an access database for students that keeps track of their personal information as well as a monthly evaluation that they have to fill out, however i do not know how to create a button that i can place on the form that can allow the administrator to go to each student by either last name... sort of like a search engine. I don't know how to do this though, as well as just making a query that only gives me information for just 1 person and i don't have to manually put in the information in the criteria.. this i would also like to make a button or something of that sort..

Don't you have any Back-ups?
Try opening a "new Blank" database and on the Main Menu, File>Get External Data>Import and then point it the corrupted file just to see if it can be opened that way.
If it can then on each set of Controls (tables, queries, forms etc) click selct all and then OK

i had build the table and relationship. i also had input the agen and unit manager (UM).
but what should i do now.
i need to separate each agen according to the um and also the client.
i also need to give output so that when i insert um code or agen code, user can see the client info, or the agen info.

Hi all,

I have an issue with an access database. When I print out a report one of my columns only prints out 4 out of the 5 digits. This happens with 2 machines. On other pcs the 5 digits appear in output of the report. I have checked the resolutions of the pcs and they are the same. I have expanded the column widths in design view and still the problem persists. I cannot figure out why only 4 digits appear out of the 5.

Hey i need some help with a project i have for work.

my boss wants a type of program set up that controls our stock and products.

In this program i want to be able to input product codes categories invoices suppliers stock on shelf and stock on order and maybe a few similar things.

do u think microsoft access will be able to help me create this? or is there another program out there that will make it easier to do?

please help i havent started it yet just trying to educate myself as best i can and everday my boss asks how its all goin.

Do you "Supplier" lists?
Do you have more than one Supplier for items.
Is the stock used within your area ie by yourselves rather than being sold to a Customer?
Do you want Categories and Sub Categories of stock?
Do you have "Re-Order" levels? (Minimum stock when a new order is required)

Listen...I looked and can't find anything wrong with it. I recreated the button (find by director), and it appears to work fine...just tells you the macro has been cancelled.

This isn't the first time I've been unable to find something wrong with something in Access...I'm pretty sure it's not uncommon either.

We use Accessdata base to keep track of all our orders. All of sudden two days ago, I go to the "main switchboard" and I get a blank order entry form. In that form, there is a small clickable box and when I click on that it says "The expression On Click you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: The expression you entered has a function name that Microsoft Office Access can't find. *** The expression may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [Event Procedure]. ***There may have been an error evaluating the function, event or macro."

I have no idea what this means. Please help.

The first thing to try after taking a backup copy of the Database is a "Repair & Compact" of the current one. You should open Accees, not the database and then choose Tools>Database Utilities>Repair & Compact. Choose the current database to repair and Compact and save it under a new name. Open the newly named, repaired database and see if it still has the same problem.

Question: access Database

I have a database where I enter part number description, and cost. I also have another database that is updated all the time with this information in it. I would like to be able to link or however you do it. I would like to lets say put in the part number and then when I push enter or tab the description and cost field populates.

you can link by selecting the table tab in the DB window and then click NEW followed by selecting Link. Then search for your other database and select the table you want to link to.

You will now have access to all the fields, it is the same as a table now except you may have sharing issues if the table is opened on the source DB.

You can use this linked table just as a regular table to make reports forms, queries etc. so you may not need the table you created with the same information as it is redundant.

So you can make a form with your linked table with a combo to select the product.

Question: access database

I have created a tracking program using access, the main tracking page contains name, address, phone numbers, computer information etc. I also have two fields that I insert the problem, and then the fix, then that is printed out to give to the customer. whenever the customer brings their computer back in for service, I do a search for their account, and it brings up all the pre existing info. There last problem and cure are still in there... I would like to find some way if it's possible to make this dump the items to a database for each customer in case I want to go into it again and look at past events. Then the next time I open their account, the problem and cure fields are empty, but their data past problem and cure will still be in there.....
I almost have this program or database to where it will do everything that I want it to do.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

My son is trying to design a booking system for time slots completely in Access as part of a college project. We are having trouble in making the availability of a slot conditional on it not having been booked already.We have designed a booking form which offers timeslots in the form of a combo list box. We are able to apply validation to eliminate multiple bookings, however we would like the booking form to only offer available time slots (and not to display those already booked). Any ideas how this can be achieved please?

I am developing an Access database, one of the uses for which will be mail merging letters and mailing labels. The database records all contain an Area field, which contains an area code in the range 1-10. I've created a query which allows the viewing of records for specific areas (i.e. it filters the data so I can see just area 1, just area 2, etc). Instead of having a separate query for each area I put [Area?] in the Criteria for Area on the query design so that a box appears when I run the query into which I can enter the area code I want, click OK, and then that area is displayed. This all works fine.However, when I come to try mail merging, the query is not visible in the list of ones I can select in Word! If I make a query without the [Area?] variable in then it works OK (i.e. if I specify "1" as the area criteria).Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong?

Searching around on the internet, I found a solution to this.Within Word, you have to go into Tools > Options > General Tab and select confirm conversion at Open. This, for some reason, displays a different menu when you select the database as the source for the mailmerge, from which you can select a DDE connection which then gives you the full list of tables and queries from Access.

What I have done is combine the Order Entry, Inventory Control and Customer Management databases together in Access 97 and I’m trying to get them to work together to be able to update when inventory comes in and goes out of my business.

I’m trying to figure out how to complete the actual receipt of merchandise on a purchase order in the database. I want to put in the current date or earlier (I may use yesterday's date when I finally get around to entering data) as my variables for the timing to update the inventory transaction table (units received and units on hand fields).

Can you give me the operators and operands in the expression builder and the complete proper syntax that I would need to tell an event has happened and to update the table.

Question: Access database

I am trying to produce an access database for client names and addresses to be entered using a form but I want the establishment address to be automatically completed if the establishment name when entered is in an existing table of names and addresses. I want to store the address in the new client database table and be able to add a new address if the establishment name does not already exist.

I have tried various ways of doing this including dlookup, and on afterevent with no success. It seems a very logical thing to do but I cannot get Access to do it. I would be grateful for any help.

Father is running a television repair business. I thought that an access database would be a great way to log in when a customer called. Some information on the customer, television type, the problem etc.

I've looked through the microsoft template, I found a 2003 version of the database program that I want but it involves a lot of b.s. that I can't figure out. the 2007 versions are a bit more user friendly, but I'd rather turn the 2007 version to want 2003 can do or atleast the template does. the really cool part about this database is probably the different things you can do. One, you can create an invoice based on the items you set to price and add the taxes to them, then you can add things like different employee's etc etc. I've tried to do it myself, but, there's no real 'help' and i honestly don't know my way around access.

First, this is really the wrong forum for this question. It should either be in Applications or Development. I only saw this post because I was checking on a post I made here before but I don't usualy visit this forum often.

If you want a form to open ready to take new data, set it's Data Entry property to Yes. (You'll find that property in the Data tab of the forms properties.) If I misunderstood the question, post back and give more details.

I have a working Access database on a machine running WIN XP and MS Office 2003. I transferred that database file to a new machine running Vista Ultimate and MS Office 2007. When I try to open the database on the new machine, I get this message: missing reference dao2535.tlb. How do I resolve this?

Question: Access Database

I have an issue with an access database. When I print out a report one of my columns only prints out 4 out of the 5 digits. This happens with 2 machines. On other pcs the 5 digits appear in output of the report. I have checked the resolutions of the pcs and they are the same. I cannot figure out why only 4 digits appear out of the 5.

Can anybody help?

I have an access 2003 database that calls a VB6 module. The module starts and then I get a run-time error 75 path/file access error. I can execute the vb module outside of access but I have to run as administrator for it to work correctly. What can I fix so that the call from access will execute? I believe the issue is with comctl32.ocx and the status bar control inside the vb module.

Hello, I am using Access 2000 and have created a database with a command button that opens up a report via a macro. I would like to know how to open up single reports instead of pushing a button that brings up every report, I've been able to open up reports that are based off of queries, queries that have paramenters that need to be inputted in order to bring up single unique records, but I would like to be able to just create a button that brings just that particular unique record-report off of that particular unique record on that form. Meaning that for a record that had just been inputted for John Doe on a form, I would like to know how to create a button on that form to pull up John Doe's single report without having to build a query that asks for a parameter. Is there anyway to do this?

You will have to adapt this to your own form setup; but it's just using the Where line of the OpenReport macro action.

If on the form MyFormName you have two controls called txtFirstNm and txtLastNm, and in the query underlying the report you have two fields called FirstNm and LastNm, you would put into the Where line of the OpenReport action:

at work we input alot of data into a single (very simple) Excel spreadsheet which is kept on a drive accessable by every computer in the office. The problem is once one person has opened it another cannot add or amend information because the file becomes "read only".

Is there a program which will allow more than 1 person at a time access and amend data in a simple database? i dont mind abandoning Excel if there is another program out there that can do what i need

Hi :

is it possible to compact a password protected Access 2000 database from code? I tried this:

DBEngine.CompactDatabase "c:\backend.mdb", "c:\backend1.mdb", ";pwd=password"

but I get an "Invalid password" error. Yet the password correctly opened the backend.mdb without a fuss in normal circumstances.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you can compact a DB from code unless the code is run from another DB.

See... a DB has to BE closed to compact it.
So it stands to reason that you can't be running code while it's closed...

One area of my work entails advising corporate clients on SQL database vulnerabilities - I don't use MS Access, and it's not really used on commercial websites.It might be useful to create a subweb, and put your database, plus ASP pages into it. You can easily control access to the subweb via a .htaccess password system. There are lots of tips I could give you for securing online data, but not all will apply to an access database. Try to use some basic security measures however, and you'll be reasonably secure. I say 'reasonably' because a determined and knowledgeable person will get to your data anyway. That said, I imagine the risk attached to a church membership database is going to be pretty small.Here are some pointers:1. Make passwords at least 6 characters long.2. Don't tell people why a login failed. Many websites have helpful pages saying things like "your username was incorrect, please try again", thus giving a clue to a hacker that at least the password was OK. Don't do that, just provide a basic error message: "Login failed - please try again"3. Don't ever include 'admin' 'administrator' 'root' 'owner' or 'webmaster' in your password list.4. Have your login script check the http_referrer to see where the request came from. It should come from your HTML form on the same server. If it doesn't your script should reject the login. This won't stop expert hackers because they'll fake the http_referrer, but it's still worth doing.

I am configuring a new machine with Windows Vista Home Basic and trying to access a database on a Windows XP professional machine acting as a server.. this is a peer to peer network..

I am running Microsoft Access 2002..

When I click on the icon it opens Microsoft access, but then I get an error that says

"Microsoft Access cannot open this file"
" This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not open this file due to potential security problems."

It opens it fine if I copy the file to this computer..

What am I missing???

Both pc's are in the same workgroup and the file has security set for full access to everyone..

romlisys, can you create a new Blank Database on the "Server", close it and then open that?
If you can then I would suggest that you open that database and "Import" everything from the copy of the original on your computer (that you can open). You will need to import all of the
Tables, Queries, Forms, Reports, Macros and Modules. It is very quick because you can use "Select all" for each section.

If you can't open a new Blank database it would suggest that you have some "Folder" permission type problems.

I have a really confounding problem. Situation: Small non-profit organization with 7 workstations, mostly Dell Pentium 4s. Office network uses a Buffalo server and router. I don't know for sure, but assume the network is a simple 10Base-T. The organization runs on the MS Access databases I've designed, one of which is a reservation system. The major tables for that system are the Signups table, where the information for each reservation is collected and the EventSched, which simply contains data for all the events for the year, with event type, date, departure and return time, location, program type, etc. The tables contain a lot of links to auxiliary tables, per the attachment. The database is a client/server design: Forms on the workstations, tables on the Buffalo.

Each year, I go in and set up the reservation tables for the next year, in this case 2010. I did that yesterday. I first copied the database containing the 2009 tables to a file with the name "10 PublicSailTbls.mdb". After deleting all the records in the Signups, EventSched, Manifest, and HowPaid tables to make them ready for next year's entries, on the workstation on which I was doing this, I also copied the 2009 Forms (client) side of the split database, changed the name to "2010 PublicSailForms.mdb" and changed the links to the 2010 tables file on the Buffalo. This is the same process I have used for the last 9 years.

I am trying to help a person stuck with an old 1980s DOS database program called "SMART". The program SMART will output its database in a format that Access should be able to read, but Access can't seem to completely read the output database from SMART. Anyone run into a situation close to this?

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Hi.. I've been asked to do up an access database to keep records for a computer workshop.. My knowledge on Access is a tad (ok maybe fairly) rusty..

Here's what I've got in mind.. (see attachment).. hope that you can read my scribble.

I'm just not sure on how to get access to actually perform the phone number lookup to see if the customer exists in the database, and also use the customers info to link (or fill) fields in the jobs table.. so basically each time a service job comes in the customer doesn't need to be re-created in the database each time.

Access database not opening completly

I have a user that is having Microsoft Access 2003 issues. There is a database created for this base only but here is what is happening.

He moved from one building to another. At the first bldg. he had all rights and access. He moved the same machine to another bldg. and tried to log on. He was able to log on but he is unable to access certain parts of the database. We have changed his permissions so that he has full permissions and we have changed the macros to that it is low. When that didn't work we reloaded Office. None of that worked. Some things will give him an "open report error" but on others it won't give him any errors at all. It just dosn't open. Any ideas?

If it's a domain, you have a whole mess of permissions to check. Maybe you missed just one?

As an experiment. Try to copy the whole database, COPY, to his machine directly and open it from there. If he can't even access it locally, then there has to be a problem only between Access and the DB. Usually some kind of version conflict.

Does anyone know of a program/option/tool to repair a microsoft access database that can be run from command line (I don't want any user interaction, I want to be able to schedule it).

The systems do not have Microsoft Access installed, they use a Delphi program with ado connections to an ms access db, and the delphi program runs a compact every time it opens, but the db still gets corrupted and needs repair from time to time.

Currently, I have to log onto the machine, open odbc and do a repair through that, but I would like to be able to schedule a regular repair to run without needing a connection to the db, and hopefully avoiding the user ever seeing the error message.

So far, all I have been able to find are programs that use a gui interface (which I can do with the odbc), or programs that require ms acess or ms access runtime installed, neither of which exists on these machines.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

We have quite a hefty database (approx 90meg) that we would like to split into 2 smaller databases.

The plan is that if a certain "Date" field is older than a set date or another field = "Closed" then these records can be move to a archive database. The archive database needs to still have all the forms, queries and reports.

Is there software to do this or is it a case of make a copy of the database as the archive then manually delete the records that match the above criteria.

In access, create a new blank db. Go to File...Get External Data...Import...

Import all tables, queries, reports, etc. that you want.

In the table in the new DB, run a maketable query, pulling all records where Date < (cutoff date) or other field = "Closed".

This new table will have your backup info. Delete the table you initially imported.

In Access I have a table of Company names which business advisors have worked with. This is a linked table to an Excel spreadsheet which in turn is an output of an external data source. I have another table in Access where I log all companies where I have received an eligibility form. What I need is a query which would list all companies where I have not received an eligibility form. An inner join between the 2 company name fields would return the opposite ie. a list of companies that are eligible ie. where a form has been received.Similarly, I also have a linked table containing all invoices outstanding for a particular project, and another table where I log the invoice numbers of payments made under that project. I need a query that would return all unpaid invoices.

You can use the unmatched query wizard. This works only if you have designed your tables correctly. The 2 tables should be linked by an id field. Where you have received a form, you will have an entry in the eligibility form table. So if you run the unmatched query wizard what you will have is a left outer join and the filter criteria in the elibility form table primary key is set to "Is Null" But the wizard does it all and you don't need to worry about what kind of join it is.I am a bit worried. The overriding principle of a relational database is that no piece of information is ever stored twice. In other words you shouldn't be linking tables via comapany names. They should be joined via a primary key. You will have problems linking tables via names. The slightest typo makes them different.Check out the Northwind database and the examples there.

I'm trying to import a database to an existing database. Both are identical, aside from their WO_NUM field, which distinguishes each record (and is primary key).

I have enough information in the database fields to make the database I want to import match. The problem is that the database is not allowing me to manually enter data. When I try a manual increment of the WO_NUM table, I am getting the following message:

I'm assuming you are importing the tables, it seems like you are importing the primary key also, that will cause a problem because there will be duplicates.

You can try dumping the table into Excel and strip off the ID column and then import the excel table or Paste it into the table. Access will create new ID's for it.

Trying to open a report with criteria based on 3 input boxes on a form.

Want to open the report based on a name and 2 dates.

cboAMName - The name of my combo box where the Account Manager Name is gotten
txtSD - Text box where the start date is entered
txtED - Text box where the end date is entered

I have tried the following combinations without success:

docmd.OpenReport(rAccountManagerFeedbackReport,acViewNormal,, WHERE (((tTransaction.AccountManagerName)= ("& me.cboAMName &")) AND ((tTransaction.TransactionDate) Between ("& me.txtSD &") And ("& me.txtED &")));

Ok, I got the first part of the where clause working but cant get the second part working

Here is the code I currently have:

part1 = "([qry_Transaction_Defect_Report]![AccountManagerName]=" & Chr(34) & Me.cboAMName & Chr(34) & " )"

part2 = "AND ([qry_Transaction_Defect_Report]![TransactionDate]) BETWEEN (" & Chr(34) & Me.txtSD & Chr(34) & ") AND (" & Chr(34) & Me.txtED & Chr(34) & ")"

whereclause = part1 & part2

DoCmd.OpenReport "rAccount Manager Feedback Report", acPreview, "", whereclause
Here is the error message I am recieving:

Run-time error '3071':
This expression is typed incorrectly, or it is too complex to be evaluated. For example, a numeric expression may contain too many complicated elements. Try simplifying the expression by assigning parts of the expression to variables.

Hello:
I have this database that I need to complete. I have completed the basics but can not seem to figure ot how to do the rest of it. Can someone help me.

Here is what I am trying to do:
1. Final section greyed out when no is selected for response
2. Change current stage field when key fields are populated
For example:
- When exit meeting is entered, the current stage should automatically change to tracking.
- When response needed is not checked, current stage should be completed.
- When response needed is checked, current stage should be in acknowledgement.
3. Have the BOG and Internal Due Dates Met fields automatically calculated in the background

In addition: I also need a switchboard created but I think I can figure it out. I do have reports I need though.
1. Open Report
2. Tracking Report
3. Completed Report
4. Acknowledgement Report

I am trying to install Outlook 2000. I get ..."Error 1919, error configuring ODBC data source, ODBC error 6, MS access database component not found in registry. Verify that the file MS access database exists and that you can access it." I have tried searching for this file with out luck. I have downloaded all XP updates. The "free" expert phone consultation that comes with certain services and hardwear, had me doing a lot of reconfiguring of my system to solve other problems. All kinds of things didn't work after that. I have finally managed to get every thing working again, but wonder if this is something else that the "expert" had me turn off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi nvb,I dont know if this will help,I found it during a search,
This error is caused by missing operating system components on your PC. These components are required to connect to ODBC databases.

Resolution
1. Download and install Microsoft Data Access Components v2.7 from Microsoft. Note that the download link is at the bottom of the Microsoft's web page.
2.
Download and install Microsoft Jet 4.0 SP3 from Microsoft. Note that the download link is at the bottom of the Microsoft's web page

hi all,
i would like to ask for database performance :

currently i split my ms access database to front end (form interface) and backend. the backend file i put on shared folder on dedicated pc, which i assume as server. the database then access by 10 staff, which having the frontend file on each pc. the backend file was ~20MB in size.

there's an option, which is upsizing the backend to be sql. then install ms sql server express 2008 r2 on "server" pc, then host the backend file and modified the frontend file so, it'll access the backend database on sql connection.

is this will increase any performance from current setting?

probably not the answer you are looking for but if you use MySQL (FREE for non commercial users) you will improve your DB performance compared with MS ACCESS by literally ZILLIONS of percent.

It's slightly more complex to get up and running but there are tutorials all over the web.

Beats running a "cut down version" of ms sql too.

Incidentally MySQL in combination with Apache, and PHP makes a great WEB server too (WAMP). Also compatable with Linux where the same combination is called LAMP.
