Outlook - Moving emails to a PST on a share moving very SLOW! Help Please

Question: Outlook - Moving emails to a PST on a share moving very SLOW! Help Please

I have a client that has to regularly move emails from his inbox to a PST on his company shared drive. Moving files under 100kbs seem fine but this client needs to regularly move emails upwards of 5Mbs in size to his PST on the share. When he does move these files his outlook gets hung up to the point of completely freezing everything on his computer just to move the email. It can take upwards of 10-20 minutes to move one file.

The troubleshooting I have performed:
-I tried setting his network adapter to 100 Mbs Full Duplex, didn't appear to do anything
-Speed test his connection, he is running about 1.2-1.5 Mb down and 1.5+ Upload, so no issue there.
-I tested moving a 15Mb file to his shared drive, this seemed to be uploading fine, after a minute or 2 it was nearly half done, so this leads me to believe the issue is more pertaining to outlook.
-I then killed his outlook profile, recreated him a new one and remapped the PSTs.
-Had him test moving files again, and the same issue is still occurring.
-The client also reports this was not always an issue and had recently started happening.

At this point I am stuck and would like any advise anyone may have to offer for a solution.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have MS Outlook 2007, I need to move all my emails from one computer to another. How do I do this without forwarding each email one by one, Also, I need to move my contact list as well. Any help would be welcome. Thanks

Answer:MS Outlook, moving Emails

If you don't mind overwriting the emails and contact list on the new computer, just copy the .pst file (default name is Outlook.pst) from the old computer to the new one.

Hello everybody,I have recently installed MS Outlook 2007 on my laptop.I am able to receive new emails. Can I move existing emails from my tower PC (using MS Outlook Express) that seem stored on the 'C' drive.I have managed to move the address book over and and have looked at the hidden .pst file, however, I think MS Outlook Express and MS Outlook 2007 use these files in a slightly different way.I ran the export all folders thing and it did perform it but I have no idea where they were exported too ? I have googled this but there is a lot of conflicting info, is there a quick solution.Best Regards.

I just purchased a new Dell laptop, Windows 7. How do i copy and install all my emails, and contacts, in Outlook, from my old Vista computer to my new one after I setup my Outlook email account???thanks,Peter

Answer:Moving emails and contacts in Outlook to a new computer

You need to look this over.http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/35739-outlook-express-windows-live-mail.htmlAnother idea. You may wish to use Thunderbird rather that Microsoft mail. Once Thunderbird is on your old machine, it will import from Outlookl Express. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_from_Outlook_ExpressAlso, there are some 'portable' e-mail clients that can run on a USB drive. To move to another machine you just take the USB drive and plug it into another machine.

I have one client who hosts with us on my VPS... For some reason when he sends an email, the email is sent but it doesn't get removed from his Outbox into his Sent Items. It just stays in the Outbox. So the email sends over and over and over.

I think it might have something to do with maybe his firewall or anitvirus software. He uses trendmicro.

The annoying thing is it happens to all their computer sin the office. He's still yet to confirm this but he doesn't think trendmicro is installed on all the computers that are having the issue.

Any ideas what the issue could be?

Answer:Outlook sending emails but not moving them to sent items..

I would check the settings on his Outlook first. There may be a setting for the outgoing mail that could be just a hair off which is why is stays. Since it doesnt see itself as being sent.

Check the Send/Recieve logs. I can almost bet that you will see there was a connection error when trying to send which is why this is happening. Most likely a timeout from teh smtp server which cause the mail to get sent but reported as a error on his end.

At least that is 1 possibility. It could be TrendMicro as well.

Within my email client I have a hotmail.com account setup as a POP3 account. I was informed if I wanted to move emails from one IMAP account to another IMAP which is simply moving emails from one folder to another folder within my email client; folder being an email account (IMAP) to a hotmail.com account I would have to re-create the account, in this case the hotmail.com account from POP3 to IMAP which I've done; but when I go to outlook.com to verify if those email which I moved from one IMAP account to the hotmail.com (IMAP) account they don't appear on outlook.com ?

Hi,

I am working in a small office with three computers. They all have outlook 2013 and are connected to the same email address using POP (we are changing to IMAP soon, not sure if any of that is important). There are many folders created to categorise the many emails we send and receive. Just today on only one of the computers approximately 200 of the sent emails from the various folders have been moved back into the sent folder. As far as we know no one has touched anything.

These are not duplicates.

Why did this happen (and why only to one computer)?

Is there any way of reversing it without manually putting them into the folders again?

Many Thanks
Jamie

Answer:Outlook 2013 moving categorised emails

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Check the rules configured within Outlook to make sure they are still there. Also, was Outlook closed when the emails were sent? This would make it so any local rules were not running at that time.

Outlook 2003, single user mailbox (i.e. no shared mailbox in the account) I have a folder called "Conflict 2010" as a sub folder to my In-box. When ever I send emails the Sent copy goes to this folder instead of the "Sent folder" I have recreated my profile, cleared all rules, ran the command lines /reset folders and /cleanprofile. Still getting the same error. I have set my profile with and without cache mode. I would reinstall the software but this is happening on a few different machines not just my own. Any advice?

Hi - does anyone have experience of doing what the title says? Most of the articles I've read seem only to apply to Outlook 2013. Is it best to use a third party program and is so, can you recommend anything which has (or hasn't) worked? There are so many listed if I google the question.
Also, does anyone use Mailstore to back up their emails? If so, what happens if you want to restore a WLM once you've carried out the transfer?
Thanks.

I have a friend who just purchased a Windows 10 laptop.

It came with Office 365.

She has for many year been using Outlook Express in Windows XP.

She wants to move all of her outlook express emails (and sub folder of the Inbox) to the Outlook program on the new windows 10 computer.

Is this possible ??

I have succeed in getting her address book exported and imported but cannot find any info or instructions on how to move the emails and folders.

I do remember that some years back I did a transfer from outlook express XP email to a Windows 7 computer running outlook. But I seem to remember having to have some kind of special software to make this possible.

Can anyone tell me if I am wasting my time or is this transfer a possibility ?

She really does not want to give up all of her old emails.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

I have both incoming and outgoing emails sent to multiple people. Most are filtered into one subfolder because they all apply to the same group project. Email can be incoming/outgoing from one or more of this list of people, so I set up rules for each person to filter into this one subfolder.

The rule says "move" to subfolder.
I want Outlook to move the email at the first rule.
Outlook applies all rules to that one email, not simply the first one.
I end up with five or six of the same email in that one subfolder.
For example, I could get email from Person X, Person Y, or Person Z. Or from Persons X & Y, Persons X & Z, or Person Y and someone not yet listed. Each email needs to be moved to the one subfolder once, not once for each person.

All instructions on how to make or apply rules imply or state that the rules are applied in a specific order. Why else would there be instructions on how to change the order in which they are applied?

I have placed my rules in order, rearranged the order, deleted and started over (over 100 rules) going very slowly and verifying every variable. "Move" still doesn't move until all possible rules are applied.

What setting do I need to set to get the *bleepin* software to move an email to a subfolder once and only once? A solution one person found, listed in these forums, was to set some obscure setting to "stop after this rule" and then manually run each of two rules. With over 100 rules, that&#... Read more

Answer:Outlook rules cloning emails, not simply moving them

I wish somebody would answer LinDaniel's question. I have the same problem. The rule works when I run it manually but that defeats the purpose of having the rule. I could move the e-mail myself if I wanted to do something manual. Thanks LinDaniel for posting the question, now let's see if we can get a response.

We have Outlook 2007 on every PC in our Office. Somehow, whenever I want to move an email (right-click on hold, move from inbox to desktop, release mousebutten, confirm move) the result is different on XP and Vista PC's.

On my pc e.g. (XP) the email is removed from the inbox. On several Vista-PCs the email remains.

Somehow these small differences can drive one mad!

First feature (removing) is wanted. Is there a way to change it for the Vista-Outlooks?

Answer:Outlook 2007, moving emails to desktop (or other folders)

OK, it's definitely a Vista related problem because one of the Vista PC's has the same Office Edition like I have on XP and reacts differently. Anyone experiencing the same?

So I recently graduated from university, and the email account I was using through the campus server will now have the word "alumni" added to the domain address. It will only have a 50 MB capacity, meaning it can keep all the email it has in it but cannot receive anything if it's over. I have many important emails I'd really like to keep, and so I asked our IT technicians for help. What they did was select a Rule (through Options on Microsoft Outlook Web Access) which is the following: Forward email -- "apply this rule after the message arrives with my name in the To or Cc box and forward it to [email protected]"

So far it's been great - but the only thing is, it only forwards any new mail that enters my box AFTER the rule was selected. Obvious I know, but I was also hoping the solution would somehow move past mail. Is there something that would enable me to move all of this (it's a lot), or would I have to do all of this manually?

I don't mind having to do it manually, but it would always be nice to have an easier option. Thanks in advance! Would appreciate any answers!

I've decided to make my laptop my main computer so my wife can use the desktop so I tried moving my emails and contacts the way I always do; I copy my 'outlook' file from the desktop and paste it into the default location on the laptop after removing the original 'outlook' file.
I've done this lotsa times, normally I move the location onto my D drive so I can back it up easier but this time it didn't work.
I also tried 'importing' them but that didn't work either, everything imported except my IN folder. I've been fiddling around with it and now have the laptop back to where it started with just it's original Personal folder, but now I have 2 Personal folders which are both empty.
What am I doing wrong¿

Having got a new machine with Vista, I was originally having problems getting my 2002 Outlook to work.

Now that I have it working, how do I transfer all the emails and folders from Windows Mail to Outlook 2002?

With the Outlook being an older version, it doesn't have the option in "Import/Export" to transfer from Windows Mail as it didn't exist back when this version of Outlook came out.

Hi Brion,

I guess u might have a Oversized .pst.
usually, when the .pst file size goes above 1.6 GB, u will start to face problems such as Slowness, Hanged, Not Responding, cant received emails, cant send emails.

maybe u wanna try Archiving your old mails, or Create another brand new .pst.
U will NOT lose all your old mails, just that u will have 2 Inbox.

Alright, this issue stems from a bizarre Outlook 2003 "feature" (bug?). My setup looks something like this:

Personal Folders
|
+ - Archive
|
+ - Inbox
|
+ - Sent Items
|
...

Sometimes, instead of dragging an email to "Archive", I accidentally drag it to "Personal Folders". Outlook allows this, strangely, and the email is then stored in the "Personal Folders" folder rather than the one I wanted. But, if I click "Personal Folders" in an effort to view the hidden email, Outlook takes me to the "Outlook today" screen.

I know there is a way to un-hide these emails because I've done it before: my question is how? Googling is difficult because using the words "Personal Folders" results in a bunch of irrelevant hits since the context I'm using it in is different from the normal use of the term.

Thanks for any insights!

If not, see if it will help by running a system restore and pick a date when you were able to move mails as your restore point.

System Restore Windows 10
P.S. You said "outlook".
Do you mean Outlook.com or Microsoft Outlook ?

If it is Microsoft Outlook, maybe you can also try going to Programs and Features > right click at your Microsoft Office > click Change > click Repair.

Alright sooooo.

I completely reformatted my computer. I have two drives.

I deleted/created partitions on both, and chose to format/install Windows xp on the C: driver. The format got to 100%, then said the format couldn't be completely probably due to a bad hard drive. I switched out my drive for another spare I had thinking I just got unlucky and my drive had died...

To my surprise, I got the same error with a completely seperate hard drive. Trying various things, I swapped the xp disk into my other DVD-Rom on my computer and the formatting went fine!

Xp was installed, no problems. Now, however, my CPU usage spikes to 100% when doing very minimal tasks such as moving a window around the screen (computer lags, leaving traces of the window around the screen) or even scrolling up and down on a web page with the mouse wheel.

Weird thing is, I can navigate both hard drives just fine. I don't know if my CPU is dying, motherboard dying, or what... But is there anyone that can help me out with this?

I'm currently reinstalling all my drivers praying that this somehow magically fixes it

Yes, you can do this in Outlook, I forget exactly where, but it lets you back it up. I don't use that anymore.

You can also go here and copy the .pst file: C:\Windows\Profiles\<Current User>\ Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook (I think this is for XP)

Hi
I was just after some help
I am using a desktop with Windows XP & has outlook express 6 with all my emails
And I have just bought another desktop which is running Windows 7 without any program as yet for emails ..

What is the best way to save & transfer all my emails from the Windows XP / OE 6 onto the Windows 7 desktop ?

Thanks for your time & help

Answer:Moving emails to another computer

i would use thunderbird, https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/ which i have used a few times transferring outlook express to a new pc

install the program on the XP PC
and the program will ask if you want to import emails from outlook express

Now you need to install the program onto the new PC

on the XP PC you need to backup the program using http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/
this will create a file with all your email and contacts

now copy that program and file onto the new pc and using http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/
restore the file

now you should have all the email - BUT you may have to re-enter the password for the email account

OR if you do not want to use the backup program
you can copy the thunderbird folder from XP PC to new PC

My ISP used to be Orange/ Wanadoo using OE6 to download emails. I have now changed to Talktalk using Windows Live Hotmail for my emails. I can still access and read my old emails that were received via Orange but I cannot forward them to my Hotmail account because Orange have closed my account. The import/export function doesn't seem to cover this scenario but there must be a way. I can transfer them to a folder but cannot see then how to read them into the Hotmail account. Could anyone help please. Many thanks

Answer:moving emails from one provider to another

If your messages have already been downloaded into Outlook Express, there is no reason why you cannot forward them to any email address you choose - your Hotmail account or any other. However, in your Outlook Express *outgoing* email settings you will have to replace the Orange/Wanadoo SMTP server with the TalkTalk one, which is SMTP.TALKTALK.NET This mail forwarding process is totally independent from Orange, so the fact that you've closed your Orange account is immaterial.

I'm trying to move 10+gb of emails from one box, let's say [email protected] to [email protected] Both use IMAP. I tried using Thunderbird for about 1/4 of it and it ended up not transferring even though it said it was moving them it then didn't say it was moving them and I refreshed the target and there were only a few emails (definitely not 1/4 of the source) and the source still had all of the emails except for a few. In other words, it only transferred a few emails out of thousands and didn't give any further update or indication it was doing anything. in fact, I let it run for 5 hours straight and there was still no update on the [email protected] so it must have just stopped sending.

What would you use? Something that has a low overhead? It doesn't necessarily need to have a GUI, I can handle a command line just fine. I'm just not familiar with what is out there except Thunderbird and Outlook.

Hello,
I'm trying to move all the old emails in my university OWA to gmail just to keep a record. I already know how to 'forward future incoming emails' using the rule option, but what I'm hoping to do is to move all the old emails that are already in the OWA. Is there anyway that I can do this without forwarding each email one by one ? (I have 300 ish emails!). I just want to keep a copy of all the communications, so either to forward them or to keep them as a file (in whatever format) will do just fine for me.

If I choose to uninstall Incredimail ( and someone kindly gave a link to a whole converstion about this, thank you), how do I export the emials to Outlook Express.

This q. was also asked at the end of the long thread about uninstalling Incredimail (that I was linked to), but was not answered in that thread either.

I plan to whipe my old drive and put the OS onto the SSD. On my current drive I quite a few games.

The question I have is about backing up games/moving the files.
I have steam, origin and battlenet. I tried to use steam back up before, it stopped working and now I have a file that I can not delete.

I have not found a battlenet backup, or an Origin backup.
Due to all of the games being digital, I do not want to spend a day downloading all of my games over again.

The question I have:
Is it possible to move the files (i.e. programx86 --> steamapps) onto my external, then when the clean install is done, move the files back to the same location?

Is this a viable/possible solution, or what would you recommend I do to spare my data cap/time?

Thanks all.

Answer:Moving files to external, formatting then moving back.

If your system is working well the best way to do this is to take an image of the old drive and then restore it back to the SSD, or simply direct clone the old drive onto the SSD. I've had good results with Aomei Backupper to do this. If SSD space is a problem you could remove data and unused progs first, and do disk cleanup.

If the system is on its last leg, you're probably going to have to reinstall the progs onto a fresh install of Win7 on the SSD.

In either case, back up your valuable personal data.

I have created a folder (Photos) in my new external hardrive (E: drive) and would like to move the photos in my EasyShare albums to the new folder. How do I best do that?

Also: Can I use the Search feature in XP to get a listing of each of the photos in my Kodak album?

Thanks.

Answer:Moving photos from Kodak Esay Share to an external harddrive

I seldom “move” anything. I copy/paste, make sure everything is as it should be at the destination, then delete from the original location if I no longer want things there. And of course if I have other backup other than the single destination.

You will likely find the photos under: Documents and Settings > All Users > Shared Documents > Shared Pictures > Kodak.

If you are the buckaroo your post would indicate – Edit > Select All. Right click one of the highlighted folders and “Cut”. Right click where you want the photos in the E drive and “Paste”.

You can set EasyShare to send future downloads to that location if you want.

Hi - I use a windows 10 pc and use outlook 2010 currently to collect both my primary freeserve emails and secondary bt emails. As freeserve is shortly coming to an end, ideally I want to somehow transfer/forward/send all my emails that are currently in subfolders of my primary freeserve "inbox" to my bt "inbox" or the duplicate/identical named subfolders of the bt "inbox" that i have created. I understand that I cant leave the various stored emails in the freeserve "sub folders" as they will become inaccessible or so I have been informed. Somehow, I need to transfer/import all the emails to the bt inbox or even better copy the contents of the freeserve subfolders directly to the bt identical subfolders. Obviously, drag and drop would be simple but I guess that may not work?? I know there are various other services such as googlemail, hotmail etc but I wish to continue using outlook! Can someone point me in the best direction? I have so far tried to "forward" email from one to the other address by selecting multiple emails but it seems to load all of the forwarded emails up in one transfer email with loads of attachments which is not what i want as it is difficult to store/file the emails - I want them individually transfered by some method if that is possible!
advice appreciated

I have a new dell laptop w/windows vista system and using roadrunner as ISP. While typing an email, the cursor will jump around all over to a new spot usually back to the middle of previously typed areas. I'll then have to delete that part and replace cursor where it needs to be. Any ideas on what to do to fix this besides Hari Kari? It happens on websites, anywhere I type besides just emails.

I use OE 6 on an XP Pro platform, and I need to move a large block of business emails from one OE folder to another. There are roughly 8,000 emails in this folder, and I need to move half to a new folder so they will compact properly.

Is there a FAST WAY to "Select" or highlight 4,000 out of 8,000 emails? It would take hours to hold down the Ctrl key and individually click all 4,000. Using Edit>Select All will not accomplish what I need. In a regular Windows folder, one can hold the Ctrl key and drag the cursor beside a long list of files to select them. Is there any way to do something similar inside an OE folder? Thanks.

Hello there,
I am new to this site, however I already have a question. My computer was hit by a storm and we had to take the hard drive out. I am now on a different PC, I have the hard drive in a box that is plugged into this pc through a USB port. I need to set up email onto this pc, but would like to retrieve all of my emails that were stored in various files in my outlook express folder on my hard drive from the old pc. How can I set up the new outlook express and import the files from the old hard drive?

Answer:Moving saved emails from a hard drive onto a new pc

Ideally you'd have a copy of your email on the account server which you could just download again and go from there but...

You want the emails to show up in OE6 just like they were in the old PC I take it? Its a bit difficult with OE6, especially if you didn't have a chance to save the emails to a file prior to moving. In your account on the old drive there will be a number of .dbx files, one for each folder you had in each traditional email account (inbox.dbx will be one). You'll need to search for and retreive those files from the old drive.

Then after you have set up OE6 on the new system with the account(s) properly configured and checked to leave a copy of the email on the server for the first run, run it the first time to place all the new .dbx files in the new account. Then close OE6 and manually replace the new .dbx files with the corresponding .dbx files you retrieved from the old drive. Set the leave a copy of the email on server checkbox to your preference and you should be good to go from then on.

My Zone alarm and Vista didnt seem to like each other and so Zone alarm wouldn't uninstall even using Revo. I was advised to back up all my files and then do a factory restore, which I did onto an external hard disc.
I tried to use the Wizard to move the files back onto my machine but was told by the wizard that as backup had not been set up on my machine it could not do a transfer. I presume because I had reverted to a factory settings reinstall.
I can see my windows mail folder on my external hard drive. I have been able to copy and paste all my contacts and that is working well
My question to the panel is what is then the easiest way to move the messages folder back onto my machine? Can I move the whole folder and all its contents or can I go into the folder and just pull back the In and out box.
When I look into say the In box on my external backup all I see is a winmail.fol extension. What should I be looking for and doing Guys? this is driving me nuts!

Answer:moving backed up emails back into Vista

The email messages will be in files with the .eml extension.

If you locate those, then create folders in Windows Mail and
highlight the .eml files and drag them to the folders you just
created. It is not a good practice to store emails in the
default folders.

I can normally drag and drop emails from my Inbox into folders or use the move menu option. There are however emails from 2 separate senders that cannot be moved and when I try I get the message.." An unknown error has occurred. The selected message(s) cannot be moved. An error has occurred".Has anyone else experienced this and if so, is there a solution ? There is nothing odd about the emails. They are just text with no attachments.

Answer:Moving emails Windows Live Mail

it could be that they have been locked on the remote server - nothing you can do about that. You will have to highlight the text - control C to copy it then open your word processor and control V to paste it.

I'm not sure what to do since i use mcafee total protection and it didnt find anything.

I recently purchased a new computer that has Office 2010 installed. I would like to move the contents of my .pts file from my old computer which has Outlook 2007 to my new computer which has Outlook 2010. Before, when I wanted to transfer my .pts file from one computer to another I would just copy the file to a portable hard drive and then transfer the file to the other computer. However, Outlook 2010 is completely different animal. When I go to C:, Users, App Data, etc., new computer, it is completely different from my other computer that had Vista. My question is, how can I transfer my .pts file and/or my address book, calendar, contacts, etc. for my older Windows Vista computer that had Outlook 2007, to my new computer that has Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 installed? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Answer:Solved: Moving Outlook Messages and Address Book From Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010

Hello referee07;

Copy your .pst file from your old computer to the new one or your portable hard drive.

To launch the Outlook 2010 Export/Import wizard, first go to File menu, navigate to Open, and click Import.

In the Import And Export wizard, select Import from another program or file option and hit Next

Under File Type, select Outlook Data File(.pst) and hit Next

Now choose the file to import, select the options, and hit Next

Once done, finally select the folder to import from(if you want to import complete data don’t change any settings) and make sure Include subfolders is checked. You can either import the file to the current folder or choose the folder.

Hope this helps!

Hi Expert

My client has got this domain ‘line.com.au’ hosted with the below hosting provider

www.swishconnect.com.au
Nameserver1 : silver123.server.com
Nameserver2 : silver123.server.com
And exchange server 2003 for the mails
Everything was working fine.

Today he got a new website called lakmos.com and hosted with a new hosting provider which is :
Siteground.com
And the Nameservers were changed from silver123.server.com to ns1.sitegound.com And from silver123.server.com to ns2.siteground.com
Since sitegotund.com does not register a domain name that ends with .au, therefore -not sure(guessing)- the guy who designed the new website registered the domain name ‘lakmos.com’ as a new domain and has pointed the old domain ‘line.com.au’ to ‘lakmos.com’ via Nameserver1 and Nameserver2 as explained above.
In the web browser if you type in :
http://line.com.au or
http://lakmos.com
Outcome same website

Now my client has an issue the mail does not work.
On the Exchange server 2003 ‘Forward Lookup Zone’ I had changed 4 ‘records’ (ftp Host(A), list Host(A), list Mail Exchanger (MX),www Host(A)) from pointing to the old ip address that was belong to silver123.server.com (202.45.65.70,,,,,not real) to the new ip address that is associated with ns1.sitegound.com (172.14.56.70,,,,,not real)
But still emails does not work.
What do you think I have missed ?
Thanks

When I receive a new email it naturally goes straight to my inbox but after about 5 minuites it gets sent to my deleted folder. I have looked through almost all of the settings but cannot find any thing to sort this problem. This happens to every single new message I get. I have another hotmail account but all new messages stay in my inbox. If it helps I use Mozilla Firefox.

I have Windows XP Pro, sp3 and I use Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 email client.

When I move an email to a different folder, I highlight it, click Message and highlight Move. That brings up a sub-menu with two items on it, Recent and Local Folders.

Can somebody please tell me what the difference is between Recent and Local Folders? Help doesn't say anything about the two items. It only mentions moving a message.

Thanks,

Hello,

I have recently started using an IMAP server rather than a POP3.
I have been trying to move all of my emails from the POP3 to the IMAP server, but i keep getting this error message when trying to move certain emails:

"the current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Message contains bare newlines"

I was using use Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 which was what i started out with, but then upgraded to the 1.5 Beta 1 yesterday in hopes that this issue had been fixed on the new version. Unfortunately, it has not. It is very difficult for me to function without being able to move these emails becasue i have to go through duplicate email boxes so that i can track everything. I am getting very frustrated, and at this point it is interrupting my workday trying to ge tit resolved.

Has anyone ever dealt with this issue before? If so, have you found any resolution?

I am working on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop. It is a P4, 3.06GHz, 480 MB of RAM and the OS is Windows XP Home 2002, SP2.

Thanks in advance!!!

Here's how to find out which .PST file is the correct one(s). Go into your control panel and then go into your mail settings (under the 'classic view' it's simply called mail). Click on the Data Files button. Next, select the file that has the comment 'mail delivery location' and then click on the Open Folder button. This will give you the exact file and location on your drive. Copy that file to the other/new computer. On the new computer you can simply do an import - In Outlook click on File and then Import and Export. Next, select import from another program or file and click next. Next, scroll down the list and select Personal Folder File (.PST) and click next. In this next screen you will need to browse for your saved .PST file, select it, and then click next and keep following the prompts. This will pull in all you email and contacts. Click ... Read more

Her new machine has the full MS Office package with full Outlook.

I tried to use the import / export function to move emails and contacts etc. through our network to the new computer but, no luck. I keep getting error messages saying I don't have permission go into the Program Files directory on the old computer to transfer the data even though I set that dir up for sharing.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can do this?

Many thanks,

I'm helping a friend upgrade her computer and one of the things I did was helped her acquire and install a copy of Personal Office 365, which includes Outlook 2016. She's been doing her email on Outlook.com until now but now wants to use Outlook 2016.

I'm trying to figure out how to make all her various folders and email visible in Outlook 2016 but have no idea how to do it; I have very little experience with either Outlook or Outlook.com.

Can someone tell me what I need to do? It would be absolutely fine to point me to a tutorial; I just don't know what search term to use with Google. I have to assume this is a simple, routine thing that millions of people have done. I just don't know where to find instructions.

Hi. Here's a little info on Outlook files:
Introduction to Outlook Data Files (.pst and .ost) - Outlook

Your pst/ost file needs to be located and copied, (for a backup). You then export it through the O2013 program, and import it to the new outlook 2016.

Edit: no, wait - she was using Outlook.com? hmmm.....now I have to think about that. I think you can just setup the account in O2016, and everything should sync?

Would clean out the dust and check fan and so forth but don't know how to get to inside of computer for doing that. Please can someone check the HJT log and see if something might be the problem there or at least give me some guidance as to what might be done to help this.

I run IE 7 on Windows XP and I am on DSL on my desktop. For some reason every time I log on to IE 7 it takes 30 seconds to a minute for each page to load. At the same time my laptop at the house only takes 5 seconds or less to load each page so I know it is not the Internet provider. Seven days ago it stormed real bad and my machine lost power acouple of times. Could this have affected my system? The guys at Circuit City tell me that I should back everything up and use my recovery CD. But surely there has to be a better way than that to fix my problem. What about the system restore? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:IE 7 is moving very slow

Welcome aboard System Restore would be worth to try. Pick up the earliest date.

This is my setup:

- PC1 runs Win 7 and Outlook 2010. It has my personal Inbox called Jon Local.

- PC2 runs Win XP and Outlook 2003. It holds my company data and is Server.

I want to change this setup so that I only have all my Outlook data on PC1, running under Outlook 2010. So, I need to migrate the data from PC2 to PC1.

Questions:

1. How do I do this?!

2. Do I need to convert the format of the data on PC1 to a new Outlook format?

3. Can I export the account settings? No idea what all the pop settings are and the passwords, so would be nice if I can export that and import into Outlook 2010.

4. I need to have the company data from PC2 seperate from PC1. Will it give me two Inboxes?

Thanks,

Jon

Click ... Read more

Most of the spam I get is automatically placed in the Norton Anti Spam Folder. However the occasional one comes to the In-box. When I click "This is Spam" I get a wee box saying "A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this" "If this is unexpected it could be a Virus and you should choose No"Allow access for (1 minute) Yes. No.If I click No. I have to do so, twice.Norton's Help file is mildly ambiguous to the uninitiated.Should I be allowing access for say 1 minute or what?

Hello,

Whilst the gaffer is at a meeting I have been given the job of setting up a new PC and moving his email setup.

Now the guys emails are way over the top with the "Outlook Shortcuts", "My Shortcuts" and "Other Shortcuts" tab (using small icons) all having scroll bars due to the massive amounts of folders he has created. We also hit a limit (65,000 ???) emails in one folder so you can understand how this guy works.

Now we have used the new PC as a reason to clear this out but could do with a simple way to export the following....

Email Accounts.
Rules.
Folder structure.
Any help would be appreciated.

TIA
Slimboy Fat

Answer:Moving Outlook Settings

There's an export function on the menus for most versions of Outlook for the emails (inc folder structure) and address book, but for the rules (and possibly the accounts) you may have to manually re-create them depending upon which version of Outlook you're running.

Hi all,

I've got a question on how to move a pst to a network drive. Currently i have it on the computer's hard drive, but what i'd like to do is move it to our company's network drive and make it accessable to a select group of people. The folder i'm trying to move it into already has restrictions essentially limiting personnel access. However when i try to move it i get the following error, "the file name you specified is not valid or too long". I've tried renaming it but still no luck...

Does anyone have any idea on what i could try?

thanks,
Mike

Answer:moving outlook pst to network

It can only be accessed by one client at a time so this option will not work.

Hello. I have Outlook 2007 on an HP running Vista. I have a new laptop, HP running Windows 7 and equipped with Outlook 2013. How do I succesfully move my Outlook email?

I tried but ended up with two lists of folders: one under my email address and another list below it under Personal Folders. How do I merge them?

Thanks.

Answer:Moving Outlook to New Computer

Are you using the same email address in 2013 as you were using in 2007?
Did you export and import the .pst files? If you did, then it will sometimes create two sets of folders. Simply select all, drag and drop emails from the duplicate folders into the profile you want to use, then delete the other set of folders.

if you used Outlook to connect to a cloud-based email provider (Hotmail, Outlook, Yahoo, AOL, etc.) that gets a little trickier, as the changes you make in Outlook will often sync back up to the web-based mail system.

I have a new computer and would like to transfer my outlook express files to it. The old drive that has the files is set up as a slave. Anyone that can please help?

Answer:Moving Outlook Express

Easiest way is to go to www.majorgeeks.com and download one of the many file transfer programs they offer. Nearly all cost money, but they work for free for a week. They are rated so you can pick a decent one... they will automatically download all the related files to enable you to save them to disc... then will recover them on the new computer. Sorry I don't remember the names, but they will be in something like Mail Utilities... Also, there is a superb one on www.tucows.com that costs $30, but is free for the first few days.

Hello All,

This topic could fit any of several places, but since it's quite specific to MS-Outlook I thought I'd post it here. I have a potential client who is transitioning from 8-year-old HP laptops to the Macbook Pro. As far as getting data generically over from one platform to another I think I'm good. However, my past experiences with trying to "direct port" Outlook data, and the last one is some years ago, have been problematic, at best, and never crossed platforms.

If anyone has tips & tricks, advice, or step-by-step instructions for doing an MS-Outlook data port from PC to Mac such that one can then fire up Outlook on the Mac and have all prior information "simply appear" in a "plug-n-play" manner I'd love to hear it.

Since all Outlook data is located in the .pst file for a given user (if memory serves) getting that copied over should be easy. It's then a matter of getting Outlook to use that file, with all the e-mail messages, accounts, contacts, etc., that I'm not quite sure about.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you have to offer.

Answer:Moving MS-Outlook Data from PC to Mac

Are you going into Outlook for Mac? It looks as if Microsoft claims there should be a direct import for .pst. This should bring over contacts, calendar, and emails.

https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Import-a-pst-file-from-Outlook-for-Windows-1bebc2d6-3683-4d93-aad6-385ff06de1e8

As for account settings, you need to manually pull that. I recommend MailPassView if you don't have their password.

If you are going to something like Entourage or Mail, then it becomes much more complicated.

Hi all

This topic seems to have been overcooked already, but after sampling about 5 years worth of chefs tips, I'm still feeling very unsatisfied.

I want to transfer the data - email, contacts, calendar and accounts for both gmail and my ISP - from one system to another (I built a new computer, this one has a nasty habit of going off.) I don't use/want stationery etc

I'm using Outlook 2010 64bit, and Windows 7 64bit SP1 on both systems.

Does or does not the Easy Transfer tool do this for me? I have read that it will, or won't. I've also read insanely convoluted procedures to move the required files around and get Outlook to recognise them properly. I don't think it helps that Outlook keeps its files in (at least) two different places, %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Outlook Files and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

A definitive answer would be very helpful. I haven't even finished building the new machine yet, so having or not having started Outlook isn't an issue. I just want it to work.

Rob

Answer:Moving Outlook 2010

Rob, I have successfully copied the outlook 2010 files that contain the emails, calendars, contacts and notes to a new computer. I setup the new computer with the same user name. Installed office 2010 and then went into outlook and setup the email, with dummy data. Then closed outlook and found where the files were located and then copied the .ost/psd files from the old computer into and overwrote the new outlook files.
It worked fine. Everything was there when I then brought up outlook 2010.

Give it a shot. Nothing to lose but time..

I have ordered a new computer package, which has Vista instead of XP. I have always used Outlook Express for my e-mail, but I know it won't be available with IE 7 or 8 in the new computer. I'll transfer my Office 2007 to the new one, so it looks like I'm stuck with Outlook, whether I want to use it or not.

I need some tips on how to transfer my files and addressbook from OE to Outlook. I'll be using the Windows Transfer for Vista (cable included in my package), but how can I use that to move OE files and addressbook if I don't have that program in the new computer?

Any other tips to ease the pain of shifting from one OS to another will be appreciated as well.

Would it be better for me to shift from OE to Outlook in my old computer before the migration? If so, how do I go about it?

Answer:My Hp Is Moving Unusually Slow

Hey,

This may be a power or overheating issue it seems, or could even be related to hardware such as the CPU. First of all i would suggest you download and install the program SensorView Pro and once done write all the readings here, in regards to both the temperatures and the voltages.

Also, can you please open your case and check on the side of the PSU and write down all that you see in regards to amperages on each rail (where is states 12V, this is the 12V rail).

Regards,
Nick.

I got a new home PC and now my internet (roadrunner, usually super super super fast) is now moving super slow. Pages aren't loading. They go take forever to load and 1/2 the time it gives me a "page cannot be found" message. To which I have to keep pressing refresh.

I think it's some setting or something blocking or filtering everything.
