Office Programs Migrate-able?

Question: Office Programs Migrate-able?

Hi all - I'm cringing already at the responses I suspect I'm going to get to this question.

I've had to reformat my hard-drive (again). I backed up everything to an external hard-drive and specifically selected everything in the Microsoft Office folders.

Of course, now, the software won't load. The error I get is "the operating system is not presently configured to run this application."

Why do I care? Because I lost my stinking Office 2007 cd (and case ... with the key ...).

My reformatted hard drive has a "Windows Old" file. Any solution contained in there?

Thanks in advance.

Preferred Solution: Office Programs Migrate-able?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Office Programs Migrate-able?

how did you back up the software - did you do an image copy or ghost copy of the harddrive - or just copy some files

if just copied some files - then you are going to need to find the CD and key

as you formatted and re-installed across the harddrive - I'm not sure theres much you can do

Hi all - I'm cringing already at the responses I suspect I'm going to get to this question.Click to expand...

I think you know the answer - unless you have proof of ownership of office 2007 to discuss with MS - I think you will have to buy it again

Hello: I brought my MS Office to my new computer a few months ago. That version was/is 2010 on a windows XP. I now have the 2013 version of MicroSoft Office it is however the 64 bit version on a machine running windows 7 Home Premium.

I am concerned about losing my data over the transition.

I received the message that it is not possible to instal the 64 bit version until the 32 bit version is removed.

I would be very grateful if someone would provide guidance on the correct order and steps to accomplish this change over. The Data is backed up. I would not like to lose the Data in the various programs.
Thank You bats

Hi,I am about to upgrade from Win XP SP3 to Win 7, which I know will require a clean install, followed by re-installation of all my software.I have two versions of MS Office active in my present installation, Office XP and Office 2007.*What I'd like to know is: How can I migrate my Office auto-correct settings, for both versions, over to my Win 7 installation?I think I know how to transfer over the custom dictionaries for the spell-checkers by copying the .dic files and then pasting them back in the same place; it is just migrating the auto-correct rules that I'm unsure of.(*I have 2007 as my main Office suite, but I also have Outlook from Office XP because it has an element in it called 'Journal' that I use, and which is not in the 2007 version.)

Just thought I would drop this link in before you upgrade to win7click hereAs for the migration, I have never tried.

Guys, my family friend has owned his work computer for around four years, and it is chock full of programs (Qucken, Sage Master Builder, Windows LiveMail, etc). We're looking for a way to transfer his programs and files from the old computer (Vista Home Premium) to the new one (W7 Home Premium).

We tried doing it the manual way, but it LiveMail has given us lots of problems, so we're trying to find a software solution that would make do it for us. We've been looking at Zinstall and PCMover, and both look like they'll do the job well over the network.

Do you guys have any suggestions for programs to use or a way to transfer programs from Vista to W7?

Thank you.

Answer:Best Way to Migrate Programs from Old to New PC?

Whats the issue with Live Mail? I've exported and reimported on Live Mail without issues. Since its a Vista machine is he actually using Windows Live mail or is it just Windows Mail?

On a PC I always prefer the manual method. Export whatever programs require data to be imported (such as quicken) then either copy it all to an external hard drive and transfer to the new PC, otherwise remove old hard drive and attatch to new PC via USB adapter.

There are "easy transfer cables" out there, not sure if they will move programs though, With Windows I always prefer reinstalling the application and reimporting the data.

Hello all! I searched and couldn't find the answer to the following question.

I have Office 2010 - two licenses at that, and want to remove the Office 2010 Suite from one computer and out it on another. Do I just go in and set it up on the new/replacement computer and at the point of activation when I try and activate the license it will tell me that I can't and that I need to call Microsoft...is this what is going to happen, or can I "deactivate" the license on the computer that is going to be dead soon??

Any help is appreciated!

Answer:Migrate Office 2010 Suite from Old Computer to New One

First issue, if this is an "OEM" version, such as what is on new PC's, the it is only legally licensed for the PC it was delivered with and you would need a new copy of Office (to be legal). Microsoft (Usually) will not reactivate an OEM licensed version on a different PC.

If this is a "Retail" copy of Office you should be able to install it and call Microsoft and get it deactivated from the old PC and activated in the new PC.

I have a lenovo desktop and it has win 7 32 bit upgrade OS on a 360 GB HDD. I would like to migrate my OS and Programs to a 40GB SSD and keep data files on teh 360GD Drive. I am curious as to what software will best perfrom the transfer of the OS and Program Files>

Answer:Migrate my OS and Programs to a smaller SSD

Your new hard drive will come with software on a disk to make a clone of your drive ('boxed' edition, OEM edition, you will need to download) if you are using a similar size drive. I believe you will have trouble doing this in your case since you have a much larger drive to a smaller one. You might have to (Back up first) turn off system restore, use disk clean up and defrag, and use an aftermarket partitioning tool to move the files forward on the disk and then shrink the partition. If you cannot do this in one step due to other files, you may need to move them to another disk first, or on a newly created partition on the same drive, and then clean up, defrag again and shrink again. When you have a partition that is 40GIG, then you should be able to clone it. When all is right with your 40Gig drive you will still have to reconfigure/repartition the larger drive (still difficult if the data is still needed that is on it......BETTER::: Just swap out the drives, reinstall windows and your programs on the new drive. When it is working well, reinstall the larger drive, find a temporary place for your files (on the small drive if they fit, or an external location) and reformat the larger drive. A clean install will ALWAYS be better and less problems later.I hope that this helps you.

Hi all. I'm putting a different hard drive (60 Gig - 7,000RPM) into my laptop this week. Is there a way to transfer ALL of my files, programs and settings to the new drive via a disc based program? I've thought about Norton Ghost, but does that allow you to transfer stuff to a different drive? Thanks!

Just had a customer come to me asking if I could image a HDD onto a new PC, which is doable, but the only reason he wanted to do it was cause he wanted to transfer Office 2003 to his new PC with all his files...

I see office has an export function but it doesnt look like there is anything in there I can use to transfer ALL files and folders and settings.... I used MJKF to snag his key so we could isntall Office on his new PC, but migrating his data seems to be an issue..

His current PC is part of a business domain and ive never worked much with domain stuff, but obviously im gonna have to transfer some settings...

Anyone have any insite as to how to do this?

Problem...other than all my computers were stolen in a house burgary..1. Bought used T61, upgraded the memory in it. Came with Win7 Enterprise (64) and the full host of Office. Then 60 days later the screen went south (has Intel Graphics).2. Bought T500. It has Visa Business (32) on it. Can't use the memory out of the T61 I know.Question Is there anyway to move the files and programs from the T61 to the T500? I have a Win7 (64) upgrade disk with one install left (the boogers didn't take that). Just don't want to have to buy the Microsoft Office software again! Thanks/George

Answer:Transfer/migrate programs T61 to T500?

AFAIK, legally, if you uninstall the Office from the T61, you should be able to use the license on the T500.You might also try just straight swapping the drive from the T61 into the T500.

How do I migrate all local user applications /programs , application files , program files and user files/folders to another fresh operating system ? Basically a heavy user with a lot of application files and programs has a new computer . Usually I would clone the drive (clonezilla/ Aomei) then deploy the cloned image on the new computer . However this has failed on numerous attempts because of different interfaces on the new machine.. My main concern is Office and outlook in particular , this user has hundreds of thousands of emails, which are organised in outlook's user interface by using rules and categories . The emails themselves are not the challenge , as these emails are hosted but, this user has tons of user configurations that I am afraid will be lost on the migration . The emails themselves are hosted ( googlmail) and can be synced to any machine but there is a hell of a lot of user config which is done on that local machine . Simply reinstalling outlook on another machine and signing in will sync the inbox/calander/contacts from the cloud but , user configurations such as categorizing inbox and rules would be lost - unless I learn to migrate it right? Please advise

Answer:How do I migrate all user data and programs to another PC ?

All applications & programs will have to be re-installed from scratch if this is a fresh Windows install. Can't help you with Outlook as, although I use it, there is only one user (me). Backing up & migrating a single mail account is easy (I only have one outlook.pst file to backup), but dealing with multiple email accounts is not something I've ever had to do.You'll probably have to post that problem separately to get help on that.

Hi,

Is it possible to migrate settings, programs and files to another user in Windows 10 Pro?

Or...

Is it possible to just change the user accounts name, email address etc without having to migrate anything?

If so, how?

Thanks.

Answer:Migrate Settings, Programs, Files to another user

Any files & programs will already be available to any user. As for settings, they are user specific. You are better off using a local account. Now if the person already has a Microsoft Live account, their roaming profile will load when they log into the machine.

Here is the story. I am trying out Windows 7, and have installed quite a few programs, but I have decided it's not what I need and want to move over to Vista. I installed Vista in another partition, and I will backup my files and move them tomorrow.

My question is am I going to have to reinstall my installed programs in Vista? Is there a way of migrating them and avoid the pain of reinstalling?

I recently suffered a major virus attack (See this thread)Thanks to help here, I believe I beat the trojan but still think I may have incurred damage. I'd like to install another hard drive and use it as my primary, and use the existing hard drive as my secondary drive. Is there a simple way to migrate some but not all of the programs? I'd happily purchase something if I knew it would do the job. I have a ton of programs installed (many with updates that would need to be re-downloaded).ThanksCarolyn

Answer:Installing New Hard Drive, Migrate Programs

Negative, IMO...best you could do would be to make a disk image of the entire C: partition...which would leave you with all installed programs.

Hello,
Im trying to create a new set of rules for USMT to migrate all the recent document from the entire suit.
Before with Office 2010 i just needed to migrate the following 2 specific registry Keys per product:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\File MRU]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Place MRU]
But now with Office 2013 i have a different registry to migrate which is:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\User MRU\AD_1BCDB7FC5952DB87CA9E016C275527A1DF980877A2742B063EFBFA2FFFE44887\File MRU]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\User MRU\AD_1BCDB7FC5952DB87CA9E016C275527A1DF980877A2742B063EFBFA2FFFE44887\Place MRU]
I tried to add a rule to copy all the User MRU field which was
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\User MRU\* [*]
This last thing did not work when i tried to test the migration of this settings from one computer to another.

If somebody could help me with this i would really appreciate.

Thank you

Hi,

Recently, my MS Office got bugged by a virus problem, and I had to uninstall it and I cannot install it back!!

I was thinking, if I was ever in need of opening and editing an office file like .doc, .ppt, or OneNote files, are there any portable softwares that can open the files without needing to install them?
By that I mean, are there any software programs other than Microsoft Office that can open and edit the files.

My MS Office programs do not show up in "Default Programs" listing in Control Panel. The programs are all properly associated with their own file type, and show up in "Open with" when write clicking the file. But, in the listing of "Default Programs" under the "Set Default Programs" tab they are not listed. How do I get them to show up there? (I need the programs to be listed there so that another program which checks that list will work properly".)

I am running a dual boot with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 being default and Windows 10 Pro x64 as secondary. I have been running 7 for a couple of years and recently added 10.
Maybe I'm not doing something I was supposed to but when I'm in 10 and try to run MS Office 2010, I get an error message that states: "The operating system is not presently configured to run this application"

When I try to run programs from MS Office 2013 a window appears asking me if I want to let this application make changes to my computer. Clicking yes or no does nothing. No error messages or windows appear after that.

Is there something I was supposed to run when I installed Windows 10? Maybe a migration tool or something to that effect?

Answer:Office programs won't run under 10

Have you actually run the setup programs for Office 2010 or 2013 on Windows 10? I'm running several different versions of Office on different installs of Windows 10 without a problem. I'll have to look, at least one of them is either 2010 or 2013, and my newest is Office 2016.

The MS Office programs on my PC are now very slow to start, to save, and especially to close. I work with several windows open for different office programs with several spreadsheets on the go, each new spreadsheet now takes an age to initiate or close (after saving). This I think happened suddenly a couple of months back and is getting worse.I have reloaded MS Office 97 pro, reloaded MS Win98se, regular defrags, scandisc, emptyied temp files etc. Have McAfee antivirus. PC is AMD (I think 800mhz), 256mb RAM, system resourses are regularly down to 45 or 50%, with only 3gb used on 20gb HD. I use it daily for work purposes. Help

Answer:programs (MS Office) are now very slow

Only a thought.Have you tried it in safe mode and see if the same thing happens. If not, go to start run type in msconfig and remove everything but systray from the startup. Reboot and see if that helps. If that be the case, add one item from startup at a time to find a poss, program culprit if there is one.

I am trying to use EndNote to automatically insert references into Word documents. I have gone through the entire process of activating the add-in and it now appears under the "Active Application Add-Ins" list that I can access through windows button-----> Word Options--------> Add-Ins. However, no Add-Ins button appears next to the "Home", "Insert", "Page Layout" etc. buttons on the ribbon. I have been able to add the "Developer" button on the ribbon, but cannot access the "Add-In" button. This problem is not unique to Word, the button is lacking from Powerpoint and Excel as well. Can someone please show me how to make this button appear? Do I have to uninstall then reinstall Office 2007 altogether?

Answer:add-ins tab does not appear in Office 2007 programs

Hi there, welcome to the board!

Usually this tab will appear when you have an add-in loaded, either through the addin_install event, or through the file_open event (file being whatever program you're working in) with a recognized add-in extension. I am unfamiliar with the file you've described. Can you tell us how you're using it? What version was this made for? Is there even a UI with it? Is this a dll for all Office applications?

Hopefully, someone can point me in the right direction to fix this problem. Brand new Toshiba laptop. Came pre-installed with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office. Computer has Realtek HD Audio. I have verified that it is running the latest driver. The Equalizer, Environment and Loudness Equalization boxes are all checked under Speaker Enhancements. Sound is awesome on the video and audio ...however system sounds are weak and all sounds in Microsoft Office will not play at all.

Deleted the trial version pre-installed and loaded my own copy of Office 2007 (which works fine on other computer). All programs are checked for "feedback with sound". Still no sound in Office.

Called Toshiba and they say it is a Microsoft issue and they cannot help me. Tried to contact Microsoft and they say because it is pre-installed I can only get help from Toshiba.

Since no sound will work in any version of Office...2007 or 2010 beta....but works everywhere else I have to assume the issue is with Windows 7. Problem is how do I re-install it when it was pre-loaded and I have no discs. Or is there some minute setting I can change in Windows to make it work right? It is either fix it or send the computer back.

Hopefully someone can help. I have been searching the net for three days and have yet to see a similar problem.

Answer:No sound in Office programs

Have you tried installing Office Sounds?

I have it installed and it seems to work with 7 and Office 2010, although I had to manually edit the location of .wav files that were created by the above installation for events that didn't have them mapped.

Also, check your current Sounds settings in Personalization - does your sound scheme have sound events for Office - now?

Hi,
An illegal function has nothing to do with the legality of the software - it merely means that the software tried to run in some way that was incompatible with either the hardware on which it is running or it is interfering with some other program that is running. These can be memory errors, or attempts to use areas that are reserved for, say, the operating system.
My suggestion would be to reboot and then reload Office 2000.

Answer:Office XP programs shut down

Look for all your .pst files and save them somewhere. Uninstall outlook and reinstall. It looks as though you upgraded (ouch, I rarely get an upgrade to work correctly) If that is the case install the 2000 version first download all of it's patches and then upgrade to Office XP. Once reinstalled import your .pst files.

I recently bought an Acer Aspire 5739G and have installed Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007. The problem is that when the computer is started up, the first program used will always freeze and become non-responsive. A message will then be displayed saying 'Found new Hardware', which once maximised tells me to download an updated RAS Async Adaptor. I have tried and paid to correct this problem, but nothing seems to be working. After the message has been displayed, the program stays locked and I have either exited the program, which results in the program freezing for a further 10 minutes and then closing themselves or using the task manager. The program can be minimised and I am able to continue with other tasks whilst this is in progress unhindered and the programs work fine after this initial problem, every time the computer is started up. This is the same case for Excel, Word, Publisher, Access, PP etc. all acting in the same manner.

Any suggestions?

Have you checked for a virus? I have noticed quite a few problems cropping up in Word and Office that were traced to a virus. Wouldn't hurt to check it out!

I'm having quite a serious issue with regards to the Office 2007 Ultimate running on Vista 64bit OS.

After a period of time of my computer running, the office programs (Excel, Word, Groove and Outlook) begin to encounter errors. They crash, and windows tells me that the program has experienced a problem and will be restarted. As always there's no response from the report this problem to Microsoft.

I've tried repairing the office installation, to no success. I've checked my Hard-drive to ensure that there's no issues with that (not that there should be as everything else runs smoothly). I've tried running office programs in safe mode.

I'm trying to hold off formatting and reinstalling everything (time consuming and have a rebuild in the pipeline to upgrade to Windows 7 in a couple of weeks) so I'm trying to fix the issue another way.

The following is what the error logs have for the crashes:
ID: 1, Application Name: Microsoft Office Excel, Application Version: 12.0.6514.5000, Microsoft Office Version: 12.0.6425.1000. This session lasted 6 seconds with 0 seconds of active time. This session ended with a crash.Click to expand...

Other program crashes have similar error messages. The details tab doesn't yield any other information.

I've been trying to ascertain what's going on. Has anyone got any thoughts or ideas as to what may be causing this and how to fix it?

If you need any further information let me know and I&... Read more

I have a toshiba sattelite p105-s6177 laptop, it's running on Vista home premium 32 bit.
Last week it suddenly started acting weird, the entire computer slowed down and every single click took a few minutes to register, no word or excel documents could be opened. ( example of error message when trying to open word: "Error message: the procedure entry point stretchB could not be located in the dynamic link library GDI32.dll." I googled it and got no hits).
I also noticed that Avast stopped working.
Tried to run scan disk, stopped in the middle and got an error, after which i got a black screen with only the mouse visible.
Tried to reboot many times but kept getting the black screen as before.
I tried hitting F8 on reboot and doing a system restore but got an error too (cyclic redundancy error).
Last night i tried running chkdsk /r c: while booting and after it finished running (a few hours) i still got the black screen but after a few minutes i finally got to the login screen and was able to log on.
Now the computer doesn't seem to be too slow, but i still cannot access Microsoft office applications or open any word/excel documents. I had to remove and reinstall Avast (which the computer didn't allow me to do before) i ran a scan and it didn't find any viruses.
Now i'm wondering what attacked my computer last week and how can I fix it so I can be confident that my computer is safe and I can open MsWord.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I think I am infected with some sort of virus.
Everything on the computer seemed to be working fine. But then after I tried to open Word last night all of the MS Office programs attempted to open on my desktop....even the Games program?
Then I shutdown manually in an attempt to restart. I could not get the computer to turn on, despite being plugged into a wall outlet.. It woudl power up, but them immediately shut down. After serveral attempts, it's up and running in Safe Mode.
The MS Office progaram have to attempted to open again. But, in safe mode. I now keep getting message alerts from McAfee that I don't have my real time scanning on. I turn it on, and it automatically turns off.

I know I need to find time to come here and just take a look at the difficulites you all are having, but I just CANNOT get impressed over VISTA. It's beyond disappointing to me.

I find I cannot even download free trials of Office Suite, or Publisher, or CuteFTP, or anything else!

In Office, when I'm in the free download area, I can complete ALL the other catagories, but the MINUTE I put in the language, the page rolls over, and wipes everything out -instead of sending me onto the download page! So do the other download areas.

Since VISTA won't work with my old Cute, or Office or Publisher, and I cannot even download these from online to see if they're compatible, what am I supposed to do with this machine?

I work web designs, and my sister and I do an ENORMOUS amount of Ministry writing. This program is absolutely worthless to us! I will NOT buy the products only to find they don't work, unless I can trial them to see what bugs there are in all of them. And I don't have two weeks to sit down and get into the "guts" of this machine and methodically work it all out.

Can ANYONE give me some simple pointers as to how to retrieve download pages??? I got the folder fix from this place, only to have my machine delete it from my system (not even on my desktop or in my download file), so I had to come back here to retrieve it again!

I don't think I have EVER dis-liked a system so much in my life -but am desperate to at least try some of these products ... Read more

I cant see why Cute, Office and Publisher wont work, what versions have you tried.

Being the admin/designer of this site and a few others I also do alot of web design, and so far every program I used to use in XP has worked without any problem.

Have Window Vista Ultimate and Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007. For unknown for me reason I lost ?Microsoft Office? title in Start --> All Programs. In ?Windows Explorer? in ?Program Files? in ?Microsoft Office? folder, there is ?Microsoft Office? but it is empty. In ?Outlook? in Help menu I was running ?Office Diagnostic? what said there is no error with ?Office?. Check for ?Spyware?, Viruses? it is OK. Hard disk is clean, no garbage files, temporary etc. Have retail full version ?Office?. Loaded into desk and laptop (with Microsoft permission). Try to ?Repair? from CD but get info that is error. Think to save my personal file and load ?Office ?again but I used it two times. Problem what I have is with laptop. Of course I can live with it but it is ridicules to create shortcut of all ?Office? parts. How to restore Microsoft Office in my Star --> All Programs? Will appreciate any comments.

Hey all,

When I try to run any of the Microsoft Office 2013 programs, they start up, give the menu to create a new document, then suddenly the window flashes and zooms off stage left before you can choose an option. Same thing happens when opening an already existing document... there is no icon in the menu at the bottom to show that the programs are still running, so it's as if the programs shut down, but there is no error message or anything. My wife is getting frustrated - she's a school teacher and needs to create and edit documents for her class - please help!

OK, I hope I'm asking this question in the right place. I'm new to Windows and I'm having a hell of a time trying to find where my applications are stored. Mac OX stores apps in "Applications" (Yes, I'm a Mac girl, and my G4 finally died after 10 years of faithful maintenence-free service. I bought a PC to tide me over while I save for the Mac of my dreams). After downloading Microsoft Office, the app is on my desktop. I'd like to file it alongside my other applications, but I'm stopped when I try to move it to where other Office programs are stored. Any help will be appreciated. Thanx. : )

Answer:Move to where other Office programs are stored?

Hi and I will try and help.
I think you are saying that you downloaded MSOffice from some where and saved it to your desktop.
Is this correct?

Have you opened it and installed in yet?
If yes great. If no why not?
If you need to install it just left mouse click it twice and it should open and start the install process.

If you did install it and want to save the application for safe keeping in case you need to reinstall in the future you need to right mouse click on it and select copy from the menu.

After that you need to open Explorer and decide where you want it stored for safe keeping.
Possible directory called Backup Program.
Where ever it is all you need to do is select the location and right mouse click again in the directory and select paste.

I know it was easier on the Apple but welcome to the PC reality world.

Hello, I'm looking for a solution to when I want to type "→" using "ras" on my Windows 8 computer. By typing the letters "r+a+s" autocorrect changes this to a right arrow (→). I'm using my mac now to do this, which was simply done by going to System Preferences → Keyboard → Text (screenshot attached). Is there a way to do this in Windows? I know how to do this for Microsoft Office programs but not for general use. Please let me know if this is possible. Thank you!

Answer:Keyboard autocorrect for non-Office programs

Not easily.

You can cut and paste from the built in Character Map application (cumbersome) or (perhaps even worse) you can enable unicode entry in the registry and enter them manually (Unicode input on Windows 8.1). For example for right arrow you would enter Alt + 2192 (you must use the numbers above the keyboard to enter unicode and a numeric keypad to enter ASCII).

Alternatively you can download The Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator and assign a specific key combination to the symbol you want (for example Alt-gr + some key if you don't use the RHS control button in your language). This is an old program but still works in 8.1. (and 10). I use it to enter French accents in Windows using a UK MacBook Keyboard.

Here I added right Arrow to AltGR + R for example...

I'm running Win XP and I've just started having a strange problem. When I try to run certain programs (a chess game, an icon editing prog) or functions within a program (when I try and load an external script in a 3d graphics package) a window pops up saying that windows is preparing to install Microsoft Office or Roxio (both of these are programs I do have installed but I installed them months ago, long before this problem started happening). If I hit cancel the installation backs off then starts again. I have to hit cancel several times before it stops and the prog that I was trying to run opens up. If I let the 'installation' run it's course it tells me I need to insert the disk. Is it possible there are temporary install files that didn't get properly removed hiding somewhere and are being called inadvertantly?
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks.

I recently migrated all applications and files from my old macbook pro to my new macbook air. The 2008 MS Office for Mac programs were working fine on my old computer but now I face this problem:

1. When I try to open an Office program the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant opens asking if I want to take part in the Customer Experience Improvement Program and then suggesting I "get started" by learning more and/or registering.

2. I click finish and the Microsoft Auto Update Opens. It checks for updates. The first time I did this it said there was a service pack released in December 2011 that I needed so I downloaded that. Oddly this doesn't show up in my downloads folder.

3. Now it finds no updates. I click OK and then close Microsoft Auto Upate. Word, Excel, etc does not open.

4. I click to try opening Word, Excel, or another program and the cycle starts again.
Thank you for any help,
Chris

I have Microsoft Office Pro 2007. I only want to download Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. I do not want Access, Outlook, Publisher, or One Note. Is there a way I can choose the 3 programs I want? I know I can buy the home and student edition, but I have Office Pro.

Answer:Choose Microsoft Office Programs I Want

Yes. Just start the installer and choose the custom options. You can uncheck all the parts you don't want. Some will be marked as to be installed on first use. You may want to install some of those right away so you don't need to dig out the CD later if they are things you know you want to use.

But the installer is very convenient. You can even run it again later and remove components or add new ones.

I have been opening up word and excel documents and emailing direct from them for a long time on this computer. All of a sudden yesterday when I try, I am directed to sign in to my Yahoo email account.

I don't want to send from my Yahoo account, but from one of my accounts I send and receive via Outlook Express. I changed some privacy setting in Yahoo yesterday and it didn't appear to have anything to do with this, but now I have to go in and open up OE, then write the message and browse to attach the file.

I have tried looking at places to make OE my default mail service, changed it in OE, but it still isn't working. I send documents like this all day for work and it is time consuming to do it the other way.

Any ideas on what to do?

I recently had a virus infect my computer. It took several attempts to finally remove it. Now I cannot open any of my MS Office 2003 programs. When I try to launch any of the programs, I get the following application error message:

The Instruction at "0x7c801efd" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on Cancel to debug the program

When I click on cancel, the error window just shuts, nothing happens. The same when I click on ok.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office 2003 to no avail.

Please help!

Answer:Can't open any MS Office 2003 programs

Hi

Is it just Office or is it other applications too?

What you could first do is to run CCleaner and clean up the temps and junk on your PC, then run Windows Installer Cleanup and delete any mention of Office 2003 applications from its list, then try reinstalling Office again.

If the above doesnt work as as that error code doesnt link to any error codes at Microsoft for Office or any product, so I would be guessing you may still have malware on your PC, so to that end I would do the below and then post a new thread in our Malware forum and give a brief explaination of whats going on and attach all the logs from the guide.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

I know you can slipstream the office service pack into the Office install but is it possible to slipstream office itself into a Windows 7 installation and have it install all at once? I would also like to slipstream other programs that can self install like Avast and other programs. Is there an easy way to do this? I search online briefly and did not find much or a good way to do it.

Answer:Slipstream Office and other programs into Windows 7

MSFN.org is a great resource for unattended setups. There are all kinds of ways to do it for different versions of office and windows.

If my memory serves me right, it can't be directly slipstreamed into a windows install, but there is a windows unattended setup file that will run a batch file in which you can include the silent office install.

The other day I was having so much trouble with my computer that I couldn't even get it to start up correctly. A friend suggested that I start over and run the system recovery. It was a brilliant idea, and I even kept a backup of all my old files so that if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY I could go ahead and retrieve something from that file. Anyway, I had lost my original disks to install Microsoft Office 2003 during a move somewhere. Since it was working on my computer before, I had my burning program (NERO) create a backup copy of Microsoft Office so that I could transfer it should anything happen to my computer. I don't know if I didn't do the backup correctly, or if I don't know how to properly set up the backup, but I can't get it to work. I even pulled the functioning folder out of my corrupted backup file on my harddrive that I had saved from the recovery just in case, and it still won't work. Everything seems to be there, but when I click on one of the icons to open Word or Access or something, it says "The operating system is not currently configured to run this application." Hi,The Problem: I first noticed yesterday when I booted that there was a problem. This is not the first time that I have been hit with an infection, but this ranks as one of the two most aggravating ones.LS_HSI would attempt to install automatically after a reboot. I would hit cancel, but the program would try again. It would repeat 4-5 times. When I tried to launch Outlook to check my email, the system tried to run the install program again. I then tried Word and Excel, and the same problem occurred. When I was searching for a way to clean the file, I discovered that Adobe Reader was missing as well.

I am running XP Home Edition SP 2. I am, or should I say "was" running MS Office Professional 2003.Steps Taken So Far:I found and ran Malwarebytes today and found that I had been infected by the following:Fake.Dropped.MalwareTrojan.VundoTrojan.FakeAlertMalware.TraceBecause the major symptoms that I am having, I paid special attention to the registry entries concerning Microsoft. It looks like it is the Fake.Dropped.Malware program that is causing most of the problems, though I am glad to be rid of the other problems as well. I have searched for information on this program, but I am finding little. After I ran Malwarebytes, I downloaded a new version of ComboFix and ran it. I used ComboFix.exe effectively in the past to restore my computer to normal, but this time it didn't quite get me all the way back. When I ran Malwarebytes again, it did not find any fil... Answer:Many Of My Programs (ms Office, Adobe, Etc) Are Missing

I just discovered that my ACT! contact database program is missing as well.

When I say the programs are missing, I mean that the executable files are no longer in the folders that they are supposed to be. The folders are still there as well as all of the data files.

Mozilla, Filezilla, and IE all work. Windows Media works as well.

Programs known to be not working/missing:
Microsoft Office 2003 Programs including Word, Outlook, Excel, Project, Power Point, and Visio.
Adobe Reader 8.
ACT! 2006

I have not checked them all.

The display settings for our MS Office programs & Internet Explorer have been changed in a way that I cannot figure out. I have MS Office 2007 Home & Student, all the included programs look like something out of the 80's. The Windows logo looks 16 bit & black & white. If I want to add colour to a spreadsheet, the option is there, however it will not display the colour. I've tried changing the themes even uninstalled Office and reinstalled. Internet Explorer, will not show page colours either, thus we are unable to see buttons & links. I'm at a loss and don't know what to do.

Answer:MS Office programs & IE display problems!!

I seem to have a weird problem with Word and Excel (2003). if I click on either shortcut, the program opens reasonably quickly, and then it also opens any file quickly (whether it is from the recent files list or by finding it through "File Open".

However, if I doubleclick the Word or Excel file directly (say in Explorer), it takes forever to open Word/Excel,and then loading the file takes quite long too. Same problem with rtf files created with Wordpad. Also, same slow reaction if I rightmouse the file and either "Open" or "Open With".

This is a problem that only started overthe last couple of days, and I don't think I've installed anything new.

I am totally confused.

Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Answer:Weirdly slow office programs

bearspa... i am glad i saw your posting because i was about to start the same one.

i felt the dramatic reduction in speed when i open, save, copy, find, sort, cut or paste in excel. i tried saving the file from xlsx (2007) to binary format (i thought it is supposed to help with huge excel files) but that did not help either.

hopefully, someone will be able to help us.

OK. I've come across a new problem (only a few weeks old) but it happens on both my laptop and desktop. Here's the problem description.Whenever I try to save an office file (either .docx, .xlsx, etc.) it takes several seconds (like 10 or more) to save them. During that time, the computer is unresponsive. Before, I was able to save a good sized office file in less than 3 seconds. This problem also seems to appear in Firefox....there is a noticeable delay when opening the browser, switching tabs or selecting a link on a website. The problem is not as bad as office, but it frequently occurs. After the hangup, the computer responds normally. I have no viruses and other than these quirks, the machines run fast. The strange thing is that it happens on 2 different computers with different programs on them.Computer #1Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit, 3 GB RAMMS Office Pro 2007, SP2Avira Antivirus Premium 2012Zonealarm Pro FirewallComputer #2Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, 4 GB RAMMS Office Pro 2010, SP1Bitdefender Antivirus 2012Comodo FirewallAs you can see, I have different versions of Office, different firewalls and different Antivirus on each computer.Maybe this issue was caused by a recent Windows Update or an Office Update common to both 2007 & 2010.Any ideas? Thanks.

I have tried everything I can think of to make Office 2003 progrmas my default ones. I can't get .doc files to open in Word or .xls files to open in excel.

I have tried all the normal routes, but whem I try to do it through the default programs option, these programs don't appear. So I then browse to their exe files and try to set them that way and although I don't get an error message at all, it still doesn't wrk.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks,

Running Win 8.1. Recently installed Office 365 with several errors that MS support helped me with. Now I find that none of the Office programs are on the default program list although I was able to associated most them with extensions. I was able to restore the url:mailto extension with the help of this forum, but I can associate Outllok to it because it won't come up in the list when asked to pick a program. Is there any way I can get my Office programs back on the list or registered in the registry to correct this?

Answer:Office programs not in deault program list

I had a corrupt registry which caused this problem and, as I learned, others. Restoring a Macrium image to a previous date corrected this problem, which brought up another. Separate posting.

Ok, never mind. Apparently MS messed up excel and word with the previous updates. I installed the latest two office updates and that fixed the issue.

I am in general quite happy with Windows 7 - very stable, etc.

One minor thing, though, that puzzles me is, that some elder MS Office products that I installed (Outlook 2002, MS Word 2002 and PowerPoint 2002) show no proper icons but only the generic "document" icon. Strange enough, when I right-click these objects and select properties their proper icon is shown in the upper left corner of the properties page. The "change icon" button is grayed out, though, so there must be something special about the icon... But on the desktop and when pinned to the task bar, only the generic icon is shown. Odd enough, Excel 2002, which was installed as part of the very same office suite displays fine, i.e. it shows the normal Excel icon and also when active displays a proper taskbar icon.

Anyone, who knows what's going wrong here? Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround or can one fix this somehow?

Hi all

I used to come to this site often, but I haven't in quite a while. I have a problem that's got me stumped, so I remember about how helpful this forum is. I work tech support at my university for the professors in the communications department. OK, here goes.

One of the professors computer has Windows 98 Se, and Microsoft Office 2000 (with the Service Pack). She noticed that her system is very slow lately (we recently reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled everything). She noticed that when she hits Ctrl-Alt-Delete, some programs she already closed out of still appear in the task bar. For example, if she quits Microsoft Word, it will still repeatedly shows up in the task bar. Since the programs (mainly Office programs) don't close, they take up memory and her computer runs slowly. Re-installing Office 2000 did not help.

Any ideas? Thanks for any help!

Answer:Office 2000 programs taking up memory

Coupla things:

1. Is she using Word as the email editor? Encourage her not to do so.

2. When you reinstalled Office, did you uninstall, then user Eraser 2000, then reinstall? You may need to. http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q219/4/23.ASP

3. What happens if you (close Word and) rename her normal.dot file to abnormal.dot?

4. Before trying eraser, close all apps, hit Start-Run for each of the following commands, enter the command and hit Enter. It may or may not open the programs:

winword.exe /regserver

excel.exe /regserver

That should re-register the programs with Windows. You can also try renaming the Word and Excel folders in the following registry keys (rename to OldWord and OldExcel while no programs are running):

hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\9.0\word
hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\9.0\excel

Though regserver should accomplish the same, I've found that, in fact, it does not, so I always try the regkey "dump" above. You don't have to back up the registry 'cause you can just delete the new folder and rename the Old folder back to its original name.

Make sure Outlook 2000 is not journaling anything. There should be no Office stuff in the startup tab when you run msconfig.exe, except, perhaps, the Office shortcut bar. Office startup and Findfast (came w/97) are not needed.

When's the last time her hard drive was cleaned up?

Hello Everybody,
My self Vishal and I have Windows 7 ultimate installed on my laptop.
Once I accidentally deleted some applications of MS Office suite
vizards MS Access, MS Excel & MS Word from 'Microsoft Office'
folder appeared in 'All Program' list of start menu.
However later I restored all those successfully again. But later
I have found that the introductory tips that appear when we hover over
the mouse pointer over these applications is not appearing for the
above mentioned programs vizards MS Access, MS Excel & MS Word.
However these tips are appearing for all other programs in
office suite.
Now I want these tips to be appear again whenever I
hover my mouse over these programs names. What should I do?

Answer:Tip for some MS Office Programs' doesn't appearing in 'All Program'

Hello Vishal,

You could run the Office installation again to do a repair install that should hopefully restore it back to how it was in the Start Menu.

Hope this helps,

i have office 2013 pro-plus from my college installed, and today, whenever i try to open something from my OneDrive, weather it be an excel spreadsheet, power point presentation, or word document i get the "sorry, we cannot perform this operation, incompatible office products are installed on your machine. if you have an administrator contact them for help" and then another error that the file https://docs.live.com/<removed>/file.docx(pptx,xlsx) cannot be opened, and it only seems to be recent documents, as i tried to open an older document and i got the error but it opened the document anyway. Do i need to reinstall office or something?

Answer:Solved: incompatible office programs error

This appears to be quit a hot topic when you Google. Screwing up whole networks of users. My brief analysis points to a problem with 'click to run' which is not configure correctly depending on which "Office" your running. MS sent out KB29207098 and there is some controversy about and I wouldn't install.
The safest option (IMO) to try:
•Start an Office 2013 application, such as Microsoft Word 2013.
•On the File menu, click Account.
•For Office 2013 Click-to-Run installations, an Update Options item is displayed. Select the Update Now option.
•Wait for it to finish
•Done - Hope it helps

Running Windows XP on Desktop computer. About two months ago -- I think concurrent with an MS-Office update (but not sure) -- none of the three MS-Office programs I regularly use (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) will shut down completely. when that didn't work I uninstalled and reinstalled Publisher.
No luck.

At this point, I tried to runthe other programs and they getting the same hangups.

I have two machines on which Office 2010 is installed, but neither of them lists Word, Excel etc in the default programs. Word, Excel etc are also not listed under the RegisteredApplications registry key.

Machine 1: Windows 7 HomePremium 64bit. Originally had 64bit version of Office2010 installed but later reverted to 32bit version so could sync with 32bit laptop. Default file associations seem to be fine and Office Programs appear in "Open With" list but they do not appear in the Default Programs list.

Machine 2: Windows Vista Home 32bit. Recently installed Office 2010 (was using Open Office 3.3) but Office programs did not appear in the Default Programs list and default file associations was not set (e.g. .doc files opened with Open Office). Ran Fix-it to uninstall and then reinstalled Office 2010 but no change.

Can anyone give me the registry entries for Office 2010 so it appears in the default programs list? Or tell me how to uninstall / reinstall / fix reg entries?

PastorMike

Answer:Office 2010 not listed in default programs

FWIW; I have office 2010 Pro and the only program that shows in the default programs list is outlook 2010.

All file associations appear to be correct too.

Missing file association has obvious impacts, but just out of curiousity; what [negative] impact are you experiencing as a result of not having the office suite listed under default programs?

There is a way to add them, apprently, using this program: Default Programs Editor

as suggested on this thread: Add a program to the list of Default Programs?
