Question: Opening 2007 Excel documents in Outlook 2007

When I try to open an Excel document attached to a email Excel opens but the document doesn't appear until I click on the minimize button. Has anyone seen this before?

I'm Using Excel 2007 and Outlook 2007.

I have upgraded to Office 2007 from Office 2003. When I open an Excel attachment from email in Outlook 2007, the Excel application opens but the document itself does not. The document has a .xlsx extension. I need help resolving this issue please. If anyone knows why this is happening or the fix, I'd appreciate your insight.

Hi all,

A user reports that each time he attempts to open some Excel documents, he receives a Visual Basic Runtime error, "run-time error 7: out of memory"

The document then typically opens as usual...and other users can open these same documents with no errors, so the problem seems specific to his machine.

Any thoughts?

I just upgraded my Office 2003 to Office 2007 and everything seems to be fine. The only issue I have is I double-click an Excel file on my Desktop or My Documents, it takes several minutes for the file to come up. If I have an Excel file open already and double-click another one it comes up quickly. If I open Excel first, and the click on File and Open, it comes up quickly as well.

It is only when I am opening Excel for the first time when I double click a file. I have found that when I do this it opens Excel and if I right-click, click Open and then click Cancel, it brings the document it quickly.

I have cleaned out my Temp folder and tried making changes with some File Associations but nothing speeds it up at all.

Any advice? We are going to be deploying this upgrade to about 50 users in the next couple of weeks and do not want everyone having this same issue.

Hi there,

I just installed a new PC for one of our users, including Office 2007. She works in HR, and the format that they use for subject lines contains a lot of information, at times. She reported that since upgrading, she sometimes cannot open Excel documents from attachments in her email. We were able to get around this by saving them to a folder on her desktop...where she could then open them. However, to simply OPEN the documents does not work. By going to the temporary folder where Outlook opens these documents, I could not open them from there either--UNTIL i shortened the name to "test.xls" At that point, I figured out that MS must have included some restriction on long file names, but what didn't stand to reason was why they could be opened in other locations...just not directly through the temp folder.

Anyway, I know that the solution seems obvious, "have her save the files, then open them," but with the amount of approvals she has to process and the way they're forwarded on, it creates a good deal more overhead for her, and she's grumpy about it.

Is there any way around this?

Try going to Excel Options, Advanced tab, and under the general heading:
Uncheck the box that says: Ignore other Applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)
Also check the security options in Outlook - it may not want to allow opening files received from outside sources.

Have been trying to follow suggestions from similar posts, but nothing working. Have tried to save as .xls and .csv, as well as trying to 'define names' of the various columns, but nothing allows me to import complete contact into Outlook. Please help, very important to get these contacts into Outlook asap. Thank you

Try going about it backwards.
Create one Contact in Outlook 2007, then Export that one Contact to a .csv file.
Then you will be able to see the format Outlook 2007 is using and reconfigure your headers in the Excel spreadsheet.
When all headers match, you should be able to Import it. Or copy the excel information to the one contact .csv file and Import that.

1) do I save excel as CSV (MS-DOS) or simply CSV (which i presume is "windows" version2) when following steps to import file into outlook, I select the file from which I want to import in "browse" and click next. most videos show the option to map custom fields, but that does not show for me....when I click next i simply get an error. I have read mention of exchange I need to have that running. Hi everyone, first post so I apologise if this topic is cover in depth somewhere else....!!

I use stacks of rules and alerts on my Outlook to save me bags of time forwarding emails to the relevant people etc etc. Its really useful and I believe it saves me at least one employee when used correctly.

Anyway, Im pretty sure they is away to automate outlook to update excel. My excel automatically updates my accounting software, Sage, so is there away to make outlook update excel?

For example...

When I get an email from a certain client it alway has a specific sales ref ie ABCSALE ******. That email is then forward directly to a supplier and filed without me doing anything. I then receive an email form the supplier confirming dispatch & cost.

I want to find a way for this to trigger something on excel to update a certain cell or row.

Any ideas without going down the Visual Basic road....?

I am having trouble with Word letting me open documents. When I get Word to open and then I try to open a document, Word freezes and I can't do anything. I can pretty much do anything else on Word with no trouble at all. I'm getting really annoyed with this problem because I am a full time student and need to be able to work on my papers. i recently installed the new MS 2007 and its not letting me open my old word documents straight away from the desktop...however if i open the file through MS Word manually it works...this may seem easy but i got lotsa word files to open so help on this is much also using windows vista...maybe thats something got to do with not sure...thanks in advance...

I see that other people out there have come up against the same problem, but no one seems to have an answer.I'm using Vista Home Premium and Microsoft Office 2007. Someone posted a similar problem before, but I don't know if the original author ever had a solution. I posted this on the Office Online board several days ago, but no one has answered yet.

Question from 8/27/08:

I'm using Word from Office Home And Student 2007 with Vista Home Premium. Word was working perfectly until about 5 days ago. I have not installed anything different. It used to show a counter where it was counting the words of the document and then the documant would open. Now it shows a blank screen with the counter at zero. The document itself is not empty. It still shows the appropriate number of kbs on the desktop.

I went online to try to diagnose, repair, and update. It told me that I had
all of the Microsoft updates. (By the way, this might or might not be
related, but other Microsoft updates keep asking me to download them even though they installed successfully.) I uninstalled and then re-installed Office Home And Student 2007 and by doing so I had to purchase a new product key since I misplaced the first one. Still nothing helped.

I did notice that if I clicked on the Microsoft icon in the upper lefthand
corner of the blank document, I could see a menu of my recent documents and even search in an explorer type of menu system. In that roundabout way I could open the files. But if I tried it the normal way, I still got the blank screen.

When our Vista/word 2007 users try to open up a word document from a webserver, we get the following vista dialog box

"Opening http://..." (see attached screenshot)

This hangs on the screen for 20+ seconds and then the file finally opens. As soon as the dialog box pops up, you can click on cancel, and Word and the document will open right up.

This box does not pop up on XP / Word 2007 machines. It seems happen only with the Vista / Word 2007 Combination. It also does not happen with vista/firefox.

Here is an example of a word document on a web server that this is happening:

This is driving my users crazy. Have searched microsoft and have not been able to find out what is happening or how to fix this.

When I double click on a excel document with office 2007 I am getting excel to open but the document fails to open.  If I then go to open the document while excel is open it open no problem.  I have been trying to find a fix as this seem like a common issue with office 2007 and the following seems to fix it for most people but not me.  I have tried the follwoing Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options. Click Advanced, and then click to clear the Ignore other applications check box in the General area. Click OK. Excel Options> Select Add-ins> Select manage: Excel Add-ins then hit go. Check Lookup wizard and hit ok.Tried removing office 2007 and the reg keys but still the same.  It does this with XLS and XLSX files if Excel is open and then open the file no problem.

Hi Folks,
I have a valued Excel 2003 spreadsheet that, I can currently only open in Excel 2007. However, an error message has been displayed that Excel was unable to read some of the document and it did a recovery. The file has now lost a few key sections. I have attached the error log below.

Hello, I am having the following problem. If I try opening a pre 2007 excel file, in excel 2007. I get error messages saying it cannot find certain files. The weird thing is, say my file was located at:
C:\Documents and Settings\Me\My Documents\test.xls

I would get the following errors:

'C:\documents.xls' could not be found.
'and.xls' could not be found.
'Settings\Me\My.xls' could not be found.
'Documents\test.xls' could not be found.
Pretty much, for each space in the file location, I would get an error message. Eventually after accepting all of the error messages, I would be allowed to view my document.

I have a document created in Excel 2000 with many sortable rows. It responds quickly in Excel 2000 but when I hope it in Excel 2007, it is very, very slow.

Is there a way to solve this for use in 2007? Take off filters then re-add?

I removed some documents from the Recent Documents list (that you access through the Start menu list, by holding your cursor over the Excel icon). I need to know how to restore them. I have even copied one of the document I need and saved it under a new name, but to no avail.

When I go to Task Bar and Start Menu Properties and look under privacy, it already has clicked to display recent documents.

I am working with Windows 7. Other some new documents show up, just not the ones I removed and I now find I need them daily. Yikes! Please help. Thanks!

If I click on a spreadsheet to open, Excel will start up but freeze on a blank screen. On the menus most of the options are greyed out, but the Macro option under View is available. I can click on that button and the macro pop up opens. I then close the pop up and the spreadsheet opens. Any suggestions how to fix this?

It seems that you are opening the application but not opening with a spreadsheet. What happens when you hit Alt + 1 when in Excel? Do you get a new workbook? Also, do you have any add-ins installed?

Recently upgraded from Office 2003 to 2007, now when double-clicking an Excel 2003/2007 file on "desktop" or elsewhere Excel will open but no worksheets, if one clicks on "taskbar" or on top line of Excel, worksheet appears. What is the cause and how can one rectify?

Hi there

This is my first post as I am now totally at a loss and would appreciate any help.
After working fine for ages, excel & word 2007 documents are now crashing after opening as soon as I start to do anything.

Having searched some forums I have disabled one extra add-in (abbeyfinereader), and have no more and changed the normal template.This has not helped at all. I have emptied word start up folder of the one folder. I cannot do a system restore as I unfortunately have no restore point set.

I am using Windows 7 and have been using Tune -up Utilities (the only thing that may have changed). I have used tune up back up system recovery to restore to 31/10/10 long before this problem started, restarted etc but still no luck.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

I just started having the exact problem described in this thread. Pretty much everything is exactly as described there.

The only additional information I can offer is the errors only occur when I double click on a spreadsheet in .xls format while in Windows Explorer. If I already have Excel open and select OPEN and browse to the spreadsheet in .xls format, it opens fine with no errors at all. But from explorer, I get the errors at every space - just like L0stAngel described in the other thread. That leads me to believe that it's something to do with Explorer rather than Excel, but I don't know...

I have MS Office 2007, Windows 7. When I double click on an xls file Excel opens up but it is just a empty excel program. It is similar to opening up excel and then just closing the book1 that opens up automatically. Just a grey background. Also I can't open up xls files by doing File > Open or dragging xls files into an already opened excel. And double clicking an xls does not work. I tried doing a detect and repair on excel but that did not seem to fix anything. Any ideas? Thanks!

had the same issue here and was able to fix without creating new user
profiles. In my case, I deleted the Excel registry keys for the user
under: HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel <--
Close all Excel windows and delete this entire folder. The workbook
opens OK after this.

I'm using Micorsoft 2007 and trying to open a file with a .PRN extension. This is a comma-delimited file and created several years ago from our legacy system. In the past, I would open the files using the Wizard and I would open it as a comma-delimited file in Excel. The file today only opens in Wordpad of Notepad. I must have it open in Microsoft EXCEL 2007. Any ideas?

When I open Excel (windows 7 Home) the icon appears on the taskbar with a small window above it confirming I've opened excel but I cannot get it to appear as workable window. This has only occurred within the last 5 days and I haven't downloaded any new software or updates - help. I know the file isn't corrupted as I can copy onto a USB and open it on another PC, it's just when I'm using my main PC. It appears to be opening in a non existent second window (see screenshot I've just captured attached) but I only have one screen!

Is Excel 2007 or Office 2007 the only version of Excel or Office 2007 that you have installed on your computer.

You could try going into Control Panel & select Default Programs, which will open some options for you to try.

I am experiencing a problem in that if I double-click on an Excel 2007 file (eg in windows explorer)Excel opens but the spreadsheet is not visible until I click on its tab in the taskbar (which minimises Excel) and then click on the tab again - when the spreadsheet appears.This only happens in Excel - not in Word or Access. It happens whether or not the spreadsheet is macro-enabled (ie .xlsx or .xlsm)

Hi guys,

I have a user on the netwerk running windows 7 and Excel 2007.
On a lot of files he tries to open from a network location he receives an error 'unreadable content'. He is requested to repair the file; if he does so he looses some layout details etc...
This happens not always... Somethimes he can open the same file without problems by retrying.
The user claims the problem also occurs on files witch he has created himself.

Office and Win7 are up-to-date. Problem remains...

I recently purchased a new computer and transferred my files from the old one. Both systems run Windows 7 with the same version of Office (2007). After the transfer, Excel files will only open when accessed from Excel - otherwise, they try to open in Word. If I click on a file and select "open with," the only option is to open with Word. Any ideas?

Try clicking on the Win7 Orb and selecting "Default Programs" and select "Associate a file type or protocol with a program". Scroll down to .xls and change the program that it opens with to Excel by highlighting it and clicking on the Change Program button in the right hand corner. When I try to launch Excel or Word I get the screen: "Please wait while Office prepares the necessary files". I then have to wait for the procedure to be completed.
In addition, on launching Excel I get a box showing stdole32.tlb.
I have tried to replace that file with a copy but, in spite of logging in as Administrator, it won't copy and replace.
I have carried out a Repair of Office 2007 but it makes no difference.
Help would be appreciated.

Tried to open my M/S Office Outlook 2007 on my Windows 8 touch screen computer and received this message.
The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command- line sxstrace.exe for more details.
Now of course I don't understand a word its talking about. Is there any one who can explain this in simple form good enough for an elderly guy. arram.

The ?problem? I?m concerned about is that I noticed existingExcel 2007 xlsx files are now saving with fewer Kb.
I have a Lenovo W700ds and a W541. Both computers are running Windows 7 Pro 64bit.The W700 has Office 2007 and theW541 has Office 2013.Both versions ofExcel are 32 bit as far as I can tell.
Until recently I was primarily using the W700ds but have nowswitched to the W541.

after I saw a larger file losing KB when saved, I did a test with a file that had not been altered or openedfor over two years. I copied it twiceand added a -1 and a -2 to change the names.The file was a small 832 Kb file.When I opened and saved on the W541 running Windows 7 with Excel 2013,the file saves with 771 Kb.When Iopened the file using the W700 running Windows 7 with Excel 2007, the computeron which it had originally been created, the file saved as 830 Kb.Both saved smaller but the newer computerrunning Excel 2013 was much smaller.Iam seeing these same types of ratios of reduction in size for much larger Excelfiles as well.

I have not documented any actual problems or loss of data withany of the files to date and I have used an Ultra-Compare text file comparison which found no differences.
Is there any reason to be concerned about this? And, if so, what to do?

Hi.. I have been geting a weird start up of Word, Excel and OneNote when I boot my laptop.. they are not set in the startup menu.. they give a error message..." excel has stopped working..sart in safe mode " then word does the same thing, then OneNote... I have done a virus and ,malware scan in safe mode and this reveals no infections...
It is annoying,, but if I want to use these apps they work fine after the booting issue first time..

I have XP and just installed Office 2007. In order to get a 2003-like environment, I set up a customized Quck Access Toolbar that is meant to come up every time I open Excel. I also have a Personal Macro Workbook I wish to automatically open every time I open Excel.

To do this, I set them up as Add-ins in the ...\Application Data\Microsoft\AddIns\ directory:
* PersonalMacroWorkBook.xlam

The issue is that when I launch Excel directly (say, from the Start Menu), the two add-ins open and work. However, if I launch Excel by directly opening an Excel file, neither of the two add-ins are opened. [Note that this happens whether I'm opening file with extension .xls, .xlsm, or .xlsx.]

One other point - this used to work just fine. The issue arose recently - and I think I can trace it back to Excel crashing a few days ago. It crashed, incedentally, independent of any action by me - I was actually working in a different application at the time.

Can anyone tell me what's going on? Can you help me fix this?

Windows XP - Office 2003 & Office 2007 - Sharepoint (not the current version) - McAfee Virus Scan

We have users who use sharepoint to open word docs. The Word docs were created in Word 2003 and when they were created they embedded Excel 2003 sheets.
We have since upgraded to Office 2007 and now SOME but not all users try to go into sharepoint and open those word docs and then try to open embedded excel sheets they are getting the message:
Microsoft Office Word Can't start the application required to open this object.
An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly. Would you like to repair this feature now?
If we say NO it gives another error message:
This object is corrupt or is no longer available.
If we say YES to repairing the feature then it goes through the install process and we have to restart.
This does not fix the issue.

I have tried several things to fix this and none of them have worked.
I have tried enabling the macro security and link security among other things.

I have searched this site and googled it and am not finding the exact issue or a resolution to this issue.
Can anyone give me any sound advice? or something else to try.

I have an Excel workbook in which I keep racing records. The data goes back about 5 years and as i have accumulated several hundred thousand records, I have moved much of the historical data onto separate sheets in the workbook so that values for calcs that rely on the historical data can be auto updated.

For current data I use a separare sheet as i was finding that it was takin g a long time to perform calcs when all the data (up to 200,000 rows) was all on the 1 sheet.

I wanted to know if it was possible to convert what i have to Access as it has been suggested that a database would do a better job of handling so much data, rather than Excel. I have moderate knowledge of Excel and have been able to build up the series of formulas for calculations in Excel over the years and have it pretty well doing all the things i want now but I have very little knowledge of Access design so not sure if I can convert and how to do it.

The Excel workbook contains a lot of formula that do calcs on past results and then use those calcs to do predeictive calcs for upcoming races. Because it was very "maths"based to start with, I started off using Excel and it has all grown from there. Is it possible to convert what I have to Access? Is is reasonably able to be done (by a moderate user like me with some expert help)?.
The files i have are too big to attach here, but would be happy to prepare some sheets without much data to show what i am doing and get advice.

My employer just upgraded to Microsoft Office 2007. According to the help files, I should be able to paste Excel charts into Word that update automatically when changes are made to either version.

I am clicking "Link to Excel data" and "Keep source formatting" when using the little popup clipboard to paste a chart into Word. But after closing both files, opening Excel and updating data on the chart, saving and closing Excel and re-opening Word, the chart is not updating with the new information. I can't get it to update by clicking on "refresh data" either.

Does anyone know how this is supposed to work? I was looking forward to being able to update just the Excel file and having it update in all the Word documents where it is pasted.

Our OS is Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. My work computer has a Pentium 4, 3 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM.

I'm trying to run an Excel 2007 macro from Access 2007, when I get to the point where I want the macro stored in the active workbook I'm getting the following run-time error: run-time error '91' object variable or with block variable not set . whenever I open Outlook version 2007 it just hangs, so I do a ctrl-alt-delete. when I reopen it, it will only open in safe mode.

since this has happened I did some digging and found that Spybot has been wiping out the pst file.

I went into my pst file and when I try to open it or send it to a CD, spybot runs a check and says it is safe. that is all that happens.
at this point I believe Spybot has wiped out my information (or I just do not know how to find it).

so if I am unable to transfer the PST file onto disk and rename it how else can I solve this problem?

Should I uninstall Outlook and reinstall it from my program disk? will the pst file start over?

If I am going to lose all my email information, should I send the emails to another account and then re-enter all my personal information starting over?

Is this something I am going to be able to fix or should I take my computer into someone else to fix? I really can't afford to do that, but I am not sure I can do the technical stuff required, but I can try.

I would appreciate the help to save me some money and before I lose the use of Outlook altogether.

I have seen similar titles but not the same problem. My ability to open links from outlook have disappeared. It looks at a link such as this one and only reads from the question mark so asks me for a program to open ?do=newthread&f=16

Links that dont have a question mark in it still throw it as it cant read past the colon.

Unsure how this has happened but would like to fix it.

Welcome to the forum......
IS that the complete message you are getting ? Do you recive your e-mails from pop server or from Exchange ? What OS are you runninng and what AV are you running ? These answers will help.
In the mean time if you are running either XP or Vista Goto Start > Run > and type "Outlook.exe /safe" without the quotation marks and a space after .exe
Does Outlook now open ?
If you have your MS Office CD to hand you can do a repair install of Office.

I've just had this problem occur my new computer which is running Windows 7-64:
I have had no major problems with Outlook since I installed it a week ago (apart from a problem importing contacts which I have overcome).

Now suddenly,when I open MS Outlook it starts up with a different screen view to that which I had previously, and after about 5-10 seconds crashes with the message 'MS Office has stopped working.....Windows will close and notify you when a solution is available'.

I have tried system restore to no avail, and when I start it in Safe Mode it seems to operate OK.

Any ideas please?

When I receive an email and I just click the email address of the person sending, it opens up the contact for the person in my system.

But sometimes it does not open up the contact even though I have the contact.

Is there away to drill down on this so when I click on the email address of the person sending me the email, it always opens up the contact?

When I open an attachment from an email in Outlook 2007 (vista), I get the msg box come up saying "Would you like to Open or Save it to your Computer"

but the check box saying "Always ask before opening this type of file" is checked and grey'd out so I can't un-check it and stop the msg box coming up...

does anyone know how to turn this feature off???
I never had this problem with 2003 - it was never grey'd out...

I've just had this problem occur my new computer which is running Win7-64:
I have had no major problems with Outlook since I installed it a week ago (apart from a problem importing contacts which I have overcome).

basils57, I suggest you reinstall Outlook using the repair feature. Usually if things work fine in Safe mode then a driver has become corrupt. Outlook doesn't use drivers only hardware does. Check Device Manager to make sure your hardware is working correctly. Outlook screen view can be changed to be viewed how you like it so that's an easy fix. Let us know how things go.

I have Office 2007 on Windows 7.

When I am working on a sheet (or document) the ribbon can become inaccessible, nothing works when I click it (like a 'Not Responding' screen).

If, I switch to another open sheet/doc and then switch back the ribbon is accessible again!

I have uninstalled/reinstalled Office plus SP's twice but the problem persists, and, as is usually the case, this does not happen all the time but enough times for it to be really annoying!

Any ideas?

I am having difficulty linking Excel data from a simple worksheet table to a table in Word 2007. I would like to retain all the formatting currently used in the Word table, but can't get the Paste Options working at all despite following all the advice on the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

If I copy the Excel data and then place my cursor at the first cell location within the Word table where I want the information to be pasted I get different paste options compared to placing my cursor outside of the table.

I am using the "Medium Grid 3 - Accent 3" Table Style in Word.

I have attached a couple of simple files to demonstrate the formatting and content in both apps.
Step by step help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to get the results of Access queries to be linked to an Excel workbook. I've been using the Data tab in Excel, clicking the "From Access" button in the upper left, and choosing the Access database. Then it asks what query I want to link.

The problem arises when I try to link a specific query, which we'll call qry_x. This query is based on several other queries, one of which is qry_z. Frustratingly, when I try to link qry_x to the Excel workbook, I get an error message that says that Access can't find qry_z, and suggests maybe I spelled the name incorrectly.

However, qry_z definitely exists as part of the database, and when I run qry_x (which is based on qry_z) in Access, the correct results are displayed with no error.

Note: qry_x is the only query this is happening to. I can link any other query with no problem at all, including qry_z!!!

What could be going wrong?

I get the following message when I open Excel, Word and Powerpoint (Publisher works, but dare I try any others?)

If I click yes or no it doesn't do anything, (on occasion Ill get a message prompting to diagnose and repair, a couple of minutes later it says i's successful but back to square one)

I have just installed SP1 in hopes there's some sort of fix, to no avail

I am hoping I don't have to uninstall / reinstall because I don't know if the licenses are limited

If anyone could shed some light on how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate it!

When I open up Outlook 2007 it goes through a configuration process and then it asks for the following:
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "OneNoteRWW.msi" in the box below. With Office 2007 disc in the cd drive I cannot locate that file.
Outlook finally does open and it works. I would rather not go through the hassle of canceling out of this dialog box every single time.

Is there anything I can do to eliminate this from happening?

I am running Vista SP2. In the Programs and Features box I see Microsoft Office OneNote 2007 but when I try to uninstall it says - "This product installation has been corrupted. Run setup again from the CD, DVD, or other original installation source".

I have no problem opening OneNote.

Just got a new laptop with Win7. Have Outlook 2007 installed which is what I had on my old laptop running XP. Also have Outlook 2007 on a destop running Vista. On the new laptop, when an email contains a link to a php file on a website, typically a YouTube link, Outlook asks what to open with. I choose Internet Explorer. It asks for each new link received. If I look in the file associations, you can see where it has created an entry for each specific file. In fact, the is no .php available in the list to associate with. These used to work on the old laptop (XP) and work correctly on the Vista desktop. None of the three PCs have .php as a choice in the file association list. And Yes, I have the HTTP protocols set to IE.

When I open any Office 2007 program I get a box saying that it is configuring MS Office 2007. Then a window appears saying Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'OneNoteRWW.msi' in the box below.

I can not find the OneNoteRWW.msi on the installation DVD or the hard drive.
When I try to uninstall OneNote I receive the following message:

I ran Office Diagnostics but it did not find any problems.

I'm having trouble running a mail merge with word 2007 and using an excel 2007 file as the data source. I've used this same word and excel file to run this mail merge 3 times a week for the last 12 mths.

Recently I had a spyware infection and had someone at spywareinfoforum sort it out for me. Ever since I've had this problem.

Ok, when I open my prepared word document that I want to use for the merge I get the following message:

"Opening this document will run the following SQL command"

I never used to get this come up. When I select "yes" I get the following error:

"Error has occured: Catastrophic failure:"

When I select "no" the document opens which is ok.

However, if I go to mailings--->start mailmerge--->step by step mail merge wizzard. This is ok but when it comes time to select the datasource I get the problem.

I select "Use existing list" ----> "browse" then navigate to the excel file I want to merge. When I click on the excel file it appears to not recognise the document type. By this I mean that when I click on the excel file nothing displays in the "File Name" box. This happens even if I change the "Files of Type" box to all files.

If I double click the file I want I get the following error:

"Error has occured: Catastrophic failure:"

I work as a staffing clerk in hospital. I created a excel worksheet that I would like to e-mail to our employees. But I would like the file to open in the e-mail and not as an attachment. Have the employee enter there schedule in the file and then sent it right back to me. I hope that made sense.

your question makes sense however I don't think that's will work, at least, I can't figure it out.
I think you should send a sheet to the emplyees, they'll will have to open the file, fil the data and terun the mail also as an attachment, then you'll have to be able to import their data to a totaling sheet or something to regsiter it, at least that is waht I expect you want / need.

I used something similar where I maield a sheet with a whole week so that people could fill in what they did that week so I could regsiter it, you want planning, so maybe a momthly sheet.

An altenative is a user form / tempalte in Outlook, but you'll still have to figure out how to get it in Excel.

Maybe some of the other members have an idea, I'll think about it too.

When I try to export my Outlook 2007 contacts to Excel 2003 (as per the options available), I get only headers in the Excel file and no contacts. Can anybody guide me?

From earlier posts a solution was offered to this problem (see below). After executing these instructions I received an error (also below).The "debug" option highlighted the code line: objRecipients.Add (Range("C" & i).Value).

Your suggestions for a fix would be greatly appreciated.


Open the Excel workbook containing the list of records. Make sure the first record is on line 1. Press ALT + F11 to open the VBA editor and then click TOOLS --> REFERENCES and set reference to Microsoft Outlook and then click OK. Next, in the VBA editor, click INSERT --> MODULE and copy and paste the code below into the blank module. Close the VBA editor, save the workbook and run the code by clicking TOOLS --> MACROS and then selecting the macro "DistributionList" When the distribution list comes up you can manually save it.


Error message: There must be at least one name or distribution list in the TO, CC, or BCC box.

Please contact the System admin." I am the admin! This was the 1st time I saw the message. I closed OL and tried it again with the same results. No changes were made to the PC prior to the error.
I googled the error and found a fix??? on the site

Everytime I try to open an email in Outlook (using Outlook 2007 Ultimate with an outlook hosting provider), it hangs. No one else in my office is experiencing the same thing and we are all accessing the same hosting provider.

It will open the email after about 1 to 2 minutes timeframe.

I've attached my reliability report.

Since moving my Office 2007 install to my new Dell Studio desktop with Win 7 HP (Core 2 Quad, 8GB), upon opening Outlook 2007, I'm constantly get an error that the data file "did not close properly" and is being checked for errors. What can I do to eliminate this. Everything seems to function fine once opened and the data file check completes fine.

I installed Office 2007 on a new Toshiba laptop and everything works fine, except for this error message. Hi, My gran is having this problem with opening hyperlinks within emails in MS Office Outlook 2007 on windows 7 home premium.
She is always getting this message:

She is the admin and she said that she has done anything in the settings.

When I open JPEG attachments in Outlook 2007, the system opens them with Macromedia Fireworks.

How do I change the default Fireworks to another program?

Select the program you want to open JPG's with and select the file associations for that file type.

I am frustrated. Since our upgrade to Office 2007 I have had several users complain that when they try to open excel spreadsheets sent as attachments in Outlook they cannot see anything. It does not even open the excel program.

I thought at first it might be a size issue, but these files are relatively small in size.

If you choose the option to preview that works.

What am I missing and does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this issue? This is extremely important to resolve.

On computer1, I have successfully created a customized form with user-define fields in Outlook 2007 and a merge document in Word 2007 that works (starting the merge from Outlook 2007). I want to copy the custom form with the user-define fields and the merge document to a second computer (computer2).

I saved the custom form with fields from computer1 to a *.fdm file using the Tools, Options, Other, Advanced Options, Custom Forms, Manage forms. On computer2 I used the same process to install the custom form file (*.fdm) into Outlook 2007 and created a new contact folder that uses the form and displays/adds new contact records correctly. I also copied the Word merge document to computer2. Computer1 and computer2 both have Office 2007.

All the problems occur on computer2. First, when I attempted to merge (starting in Outlook 2007), Word gave messages that all my user-defined fields did NOT exist in the database although I could see them in the Contact records. I attempted to create a new document and the user-define fields do NOT show up in the Word merge field list either.

On computer2, I created from scratch a new contacts folder with a new custom form and user-define fields which works when merging. Therefore, the problem seems to be that Word can not see the fields I created from the *.fdm file I installed.

Can anyone please help me with this? Thank you in advance.

I thought that posting my experience just now might be helpful to others.

Yesterday (25-Aug-2009) my Outlook 2007 was working perfectly. I had downloaded & installed Outlook Connector 12.1 because I'd received an e-mail from Microsoft to say that the DAV protocol used for HTTP mail would be withdrawn on 1-Sep-09. I also noticed that MS had restored the POP3 service that they closed down a couple of years ago.

So I set up the POP3 account and started working with that. All OK.

Last night when I closed down, Windows Update came in and completed on reboot this morning. Outlook 2007 wouldn't start, coming up with the message: +Cannot Start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook Window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The information store could not be opened.+.

Nothing I did in that environment would enable Outlook 2007 to load, I created a new profile and that did no good.

So I went back to the System Restore Point made at the time of installing the Outlook Connector and everything sprang to life.

I had also tried the restore point that undid the Windows Update, but that didn't cure the problem either.

So, I'll see what happens when I reboot next time in case it had nothing to do with Windows Update.

I recently formatted my HD and reinstalled MS Office Enterprise 2007, I last used MS Excel on the 08/06/2014 without a problem, today I go to use my Excel spreadsheet and for some weird reason it wants to roundup my cells.
I have cleared the cells formatted the number but it still keeps on rounding up 25799 to 258. I downloaded a stack of MS Office updates 3 days ago, is it possible one of these Updates has corrupted - broken my Excel program?

I am considering uninstalling all of those updates and turning off Updates for MS Office altogether.

To test if it's really a software issue, please try out on a new excel spreadsheet and see if the problem is still there. It might not necessarily be the software. Once we have confirmation that the problem exist on a fresh new spreadsheet, then try to do a repair first before uninstalling.

I am trying to create a report/form that will have a client's address and information at the top and whoever worked the case one the bottom. We would have the client information in a spreadsheet and our various employees information in another. I'd like the users to have some way of selecting the cleint/employee information, possibly from a drop down box, then have the information inserted into the document in the appropraite fields. I am not that familiar with the advanced features of word/excel and have been having trouble figuring out a way to do this. I'd like to have the form with the data in it to save as a file. Most of what I have seen involve mail merges which doesn't seem to work in this case or references to VBA. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi folks,

I have this problem that is hard to search for on Google. We have a lot of word 2000 documents connected to a simpel text data file (data.doc) that is used with mail merge.

Here is our process:
1.) data.doc is opened, filled with all variablenames we can use in our documents (name, country, etc.)
2.) data.doc is opened, filled with the actual data (from a database) belonging to the variables name (Kees, Japan, etc.)
3.) Our 2008 application does step 1 and 2, then starts a template word 2000 document which has that data.doc file attached for mail merge. The template is now filled in with the correct data.
4.) 2008 application tells MS Word to print the document.
5.) Works fine and we have ourselves a nice document filled in with data we specified in the 2008 application.

Now comes the problem, some new computers will have office 2007 instead of office 2000 installed, during testing we have encountered that it does not error but the office 2007 installed computer does not fill in the data and just shows mergefield names <<name>> <<country>>. Also when printed out. So it seems like the datafile is not connected when opening the template in word 2007.

If we let our 2008 application show us the document visually first, we can re-attach the data file again and we can print the data, however there are 3 thing wrong with this approach:

1.) More user input which is not needed.

When I try to open a 2007 Word or Excel document I recieve as an attachment in Outlook 2003, I get the following message:
"This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". Office 2007 compatibility pack was installed and it still did not work.

I then uninstalled Office 2003, uninstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack and then I ran CCleaner to clean up the registry. I updated my OS (currently has Windows XP SP3) with all updates, reinstalled Office 2003, installed Office 2003 SP 3 and then reinstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack.

I still get the same message when I try to open an Office 2007 attachment in Outlook 2003.

OS is Windows XP SP3 fully updated
Office 2003 SP 3 fully updated

Any suggestions?

Outlook 2007 mail search is incomplete when Visio 2007 Pro is installed.

Already uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 Pro SP2, Project 2007 Standard and Visio 2007 Pro.
Rebuild indexing and again uninstalled Visio 2007 Pro. Mail Search working as long as Visio not installed.

hebrew font is not recognised in Outlook 2007 although it is installled in office 2007 and works well in word 2007 & exel 2007 - the hebrew text always comes up as ?????.?????? when displaying the senders name in an email received - instead of the hebrew text.Can anybody correct this ?

Can you copy and paste the Hebrew lettering from word to an email in outlook (may be a quick work around)?Im unsure of the specifics to your problem but I did find this on the internet:in order to display multibyte (ie hebrew) characters correctly,- you must use a Unicode-type PST file- you must run Outlook in Unicode mode- the incoming message must be properly encoded (by the sender) as Hebrew.

Running Vista Ultimate (32 bit) on HP Media Center Desktop Unit (8100y). Each time system is booted up and Outlook 2007 is accessed for the first time, Microsoft Office 2007 begins to reconfigure itself. Neither canceling of the configuation process nor allowing the process to complete seems to have any apparent effect on subsequent operations.

Performed repair function on the Office application without any discernible effect. Any help in resolving this issue would be truly appreciated!

The following hyperlink in Microsoft Word opens up a contact from Outlook. Is there an easy macro that goes to that contact, and adds to the work document, the words from a certain field in the contact. I have new fields in my contact form, and want the word document to show the words from some of those fields.

I have been tasked to keep track of follow ups for Implementation dead lines.

This is my first post here. I need your help in developing a mechanism to send an automated outlook mail, when the due date is 14 days away from being implemented/addressed. The script should preferably run automatically every time the PC is running. without the excel file necessarily open.

In the attached excel file, An email should go of to -email address (Col. J), with subject "Audit Follow Up_Audited Function (Col. A) is due on Due date(Col. I)", and body "Dear Name(Col. K), Reminder - Audit Follow up on Implementation Date"
Also, the script should put a check mark on Reminder sent column (Col. L) after the mail is sent, the script should also check if the value of the cell is blank before sending email.

I have scoured the forum for similar problems, and although I found a number of of threads,I am not proficient enough in VBA to modify them to my needs.

I'd really appreciate any help. I've attached my sample spreadsheet.

I have created a spreadsheet which is automatically updated from Access Databases.
I issue it as a report on a dailiy basis.

I have added conditional formatting to the spreadsheet. I have used the traffic light system and green is good, red is bad etc.

Everything works perfectly until I email the spreadsheet as the message body using Microsoft Outlook 2007. All the traffic light symbols disappear from the email. I have tried cut and paste and that still does not work. Everything else appears as normal.

Can anybody give me a pointer on how I can resolve this. I dont want to using any snapshot software.
