Excel 2007 Change Left Side Numbering - HELP!!

Question: Excel 2007 Change Left Side Numbering - HELP!!

I have been using Excel (now 2007) to keep records of items that we give free after a certain amount of purchases are made. Each year I simply carry over to the new year and delete all those who received the free item so that I start with a clean slate.

I did this yesterday and now noticed that the numbering on the far left column skips the number I deleted and although there are perhaps 30 names there - the numbers are showing up to 237.

How do I change the numbers so that they run consecutively from 1 to 30.....please...in layman terms please!

Thanks..

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not sure if this question has been asked or not i tried to search but i cant seem to find anything on the forum. So my question being:

A1=1
A2=2
A3=3
A4=4
A5=5
A6=6

But here is the kicker if i delete one of the other numbers i want it to auto fix the rest of the numbers and continue:

A1=1
A2=blank
A3=2
A4=3
A5=blank
A6=4

So any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help!

Answer:Sequential Numbering Excel 2007

If the sequence you want is:
A1=1
A2=blank
A3=2
A4=3
A5=blank
A6=4
Then just enter:
A1=1
A2=blank
A3=2
Then select those three cells (A1, A2, and A3)
Grab the grabpoint at the bottom right of cell A3 and drag downward.

From that I got:
A1=1
A2=blank
A3=2
A4=3
A5=blank
A6=4
A7=5
A8=blank
A9=6
A10=7
A11=blank
A12=8
A13=9
A14=blank
A15=10
A16=11
etc.

I have Microsoft Office 2000 in XP and my query is in Excel.I have one Work Book.I had four sheets set up with about twenty columns of data. They were numbered from sheet 1 to 4.I then needed to set up another sheet in the same format and it called itself Sheet 5.I need Sheet 5 to be named Sheet 1 now, what is now sheet I to be sheet 2, sheet 2 to be sheet 3, and sheet four to be sheet 5. I cannot find any way of doing this in Help, can anyone help me please ?

Answer:Can I change sheet numbering in Excel ?

Double click a sheet tab and you can rename it (or right click and select rename).You will have to call one of them SheetX or similar whilst you do the adjustments as 2 sheets cannot have the same name.

When I insert a flash drive into one of the dead ports, initially the message pops up indicating that the computer recognizes something has been inserted into the port, but then it immediately disappears and the port is dead. I went to Device Manger-->Portable Devices and tried to fix one of the three dead ports. At some point (after I scanned for hardware changes, I think) it did show the drive letter, but it had a yellow triangular error-message  indicator. I right-clicked and selected Properties, and it said "This device cannot start (code 10)." Then the drive letter disappeared, though it has come back sporadically. I hope this is clear. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks. Jane Doe

Hi,
I recently bought my Dell XPS 9560. My dell xps screen appears cooler on the left side and slightly warmer on the right side. It is not noticeable in any color but when I visit websites with a white background like google, I can notice that the right side is slightly warmer (yellowish) which is distracting. Any idea on how should I proceed with the issue?
Thanks

Answer:Dell XPS 9560 Screen - left side cooler and right side warmer

If "recently" is less than 21 days from shipment and from Dell directly, the best option is to contact customer support and have the system replaced.
If it's more than 21 days from shipment, the warranty will cover the display replacement, which is the only solution -- though if the system is new enough, you're better off having it replaced than repaired.

Model:  HP Pavilion m6 Notebook PC 15".   Laptop used minimally and still in beautiful shape other than these noted issues:  Left hinge is broken away from plastic casing (see pic) and Right hinge is broken away from lid plastic (see pic).   From what I'm reading, it seems the plastic base, chassis, and possibly lid base and hinge need replaced.  Please let me know what HP is offering as far as replacement parts and repair.  This seems to be an ongoing issue with HP notebooks.  I've purchased a total of three HP notebook/laptops over the past four years so I'm very concerned about these issues and why HP has allowed it to continue for so long and across so many different models.  It seems to me the plastic used in making these parts does not have the tensile strength required in notebook/laptop use.  I would think this issue would've been corrected years ago and not have continued.  Please advise.  I do love all my HP laptops other than these issues.   Thank you.

Hi,
is this possible?
I currently have things like Favourites, Libraries, and Homegroup (all of which I don't care for). Not sure what that folder pane is actually called, so not sure what to search for.
I just want an expanded folder tree of My Computer.

Any suggestions?
thanks

ok, at least it's searchable now that I know it's called navigation pane]

I'm not sure why one would do this. Right click on what ever you don't want and select delete. Be very sure you want to do this. Those things do no harm being there.

After I reinstalled Windows XP Home on a P4 2.4 G computer and checked Quick Launch in Taskbar & Start Menu Properties, I double clicked the Quick Launch divider in error, and Quick Launch displayed on the second row of the Taskbar.  I was finally able to get Quick Launch on a single row of the Taskbar.  However, it is now on the right side of the Taskbar, and I have not been able to move it to the traditional left side.  While it does not create an operational problem, I am accustomed to Quick Launch being on the left.  Quick Launch is not locked.  How can I get it back to the left side of the Taskbar, with open programs showing on the right?

Answer:Move Quick Launch From Right Side To Left Side Of Taskbar

Click and drag the divider, that should move the toolbar about.Just drag it to its normal position.It works for me, anyway.Hope this helps.

Has anyone seen this before?
This seems to be happening more and more, I am using my PC (with Windows 8 Pro) as an HTPC and its connected via HDMI to a plasma TV so the PC is always on. Sometimes, when I go to use the pc I turn the TV on and then move the mouse around to turn the display on and I see the attached image, it looks as though the screen has shifted to the right and wrapped around to the other side.
I ran windows 7 with the same hardware on this setup for years without an issue. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

I couldn't a find a way to do this from Format Cell | Fill | Pattern Style .. - is there a way of cross-hatching cells alternatively, such that two adjacent cells are hashed with left-slanted and right-slanted lines respectively, thus making it easier to discern where one ends and the other begins (especially in the case of merged cells with white background)?

Any help will be much appreciated, anticipated thanks!

Very frustrated with this...I opened the laptop gently as I would always do  and the hinge on the left side of the laptop just snapped and popped out of the plastic monitor frame.  The design of the hinges are just terrible and i can now see how they work because the case has been damaged just from opening and closing the laptop.  I can now see inside the whole left side of the case.  To top it off I have already invested considerable time into upgrading the OS to Windows 10 and customizing and installing software on this laptop. I cannot close my laptop entirely since the screen closes on an incorrect angle. Since I am out of warranty, is there any way to fix this problem? After reading several posts, it seems to be a common problem with the envy models.

Hello,

I have a strange problem. I recently had to move my graphics card from one slot to another on my motherboard. When I did so, my desktop appeared to be shifted over to the left and that the left most part of the desktop would not display. I tried to use my TV controls to shift the display horizontally and when I did I encountered two issues- 1) the display would not adjust flush with the right side of the screen (would not reach it leaving a slim black bar) and 2) it looked like someone sliced off the left most part of my desktop (the part missing was a width so that about half the start/ windows button was missing).

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling CCC (latest update/drivers) for my ATI Raedon HD 46xx series card with no luck (Doing a registry sweep between to be thorough). I also have updated everything else windows with no luck.

My desktop is fine @50hz by the way, but 60hz is problematic.

And here is the whammy!

I took a screenshot of my desktop to send to a friend so he could see the left part cut off by a black bar and when I pasted it, the whole screen is there in the pic!!

So I assume this means that windows thinks it is displaying the screen but it is not making it to my TV?

I would have given up on this, however, it was working before so I know that it is possible.

Any help with this issue would be appreciated as I am starting to pull my hair out over here! :-)
Thanks in advance!

Daikon

Answer:Desktop shifted left and cutoff on left side Win7 64bit Raedon HD 46xx

Hum I had a similar thing happen with my monitor I just could not get it to the edges and someone advised me to use the scaling in the CCC and it worked so give it go.

Personally I got so fed up with the ATi stuff and went NVidia best thing I ever did.

There's this annoying white noise on my left speakers(Logitech X-540 Speakerset), though I think it's not my speakers that are causing it, but something else, because when I connect my iPod to my speakers there's no white noise.

So I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to get rid of this noise

Answer:White noise on left speakers/left side of headphone

Sounds like either a driver malfunction or more likely a failing sound card. Most of the stuff below (Windows & Programs) wouldn't likely be causing problems. I'd be willing to bet it's a hardware problem (due to it only being one side).

Figure Out What's FailingIf you're using a secondary sound card
*** i.e. you have a second built in one on your motherboard, enable that.
If you still hear the sound on a different card, then it's something within Windows and not a problem w/ hardware.
If you don't hear the sound, then it's something w/ drivers or your hardware.
If you don't have an extra sound card, see if you can find/buy one Replace DriversDownload & Install a Program like Guru's Driver Sweeper
Uninstall your sound drivers w/ Driver Sweeper
Reboot
Download and install the latest drivers for your sound card.
RebootIf the sound is still there and you couldn't test a secondary card you're likely dealing with either a hardware failure (most likely with sound only happening in one speaker) or something in Windows failing.

Repair WindowsIf you want to try to fix windows, you can do the following:
Run an elevated Command Prompt and run this command:
sfc /scannow
Peform a system restore
Perform a repair install.Test to see if a program is causing the problemType msconfig into start menu search and hit Enter
Go to the startup tab and disable everything.
Restart computer
Do you still hear the sound?
Yes -- Not a program
No -- A program is likely causing the problem.If no... Read more

Hi, I have a CTL 17" LCD monitor. This morning I turned on my pc and found that the left side of my monitor is darker than the right side. Any idea as to what the problem could possibly be?

Answer:My monitor is brighter on the right side than on the left side

I don't know which orientation the tubes have, but if it is vertical, the tubes on the left may be on their way out. Most LCD monitors unless specifically advertised otherwise (ie - LED) use fluorescent tubes for the backlight.

So, I'd say it is on its way out and there is nothing you can do to fix it short of just replacing it. The left side may brighten to normal after being on several minutes/hours. Did you notice if that happened the longer you had it on?

This morning I came into my office to find my pc (p4, win7) apparently in a loop. the cpu usage was very high on all four processors, and the disk usage was high as well. I tried restarting the computer but there was so much cpu usage that I couldn't even type. So after 10 minutes or so, I just pulled the plug.

The first problem was that Norton Internet Security stopped working. After an hour on 'chat' with Symantec, they reloaded the software for me and now NIS is working properly. But I still have (at least) two probems. (1) My RIMDeviceManager fails with an 0xC015002 error, and all my MSOffice 2007 programs fail with "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect."

I unstalled all the Microsoft C++ programs and then did an MSOffice "repair" and it looks like C++ Redistributable (32 and 64-bit) were re-installed, but Outlook, Excel, etc, still get the same error. Everything I've read about fixing the problem is way over my head (and I'm fairly technical). Does anyone have a clue what I should be tracking down?

Excel 2007. I want to be able to create a master price list (Column B, row by row = product by product). Then, when we get a new shipment/invoice, I want to be able to pull the corresponding data into the excel workbook, COMPARE the price changes (IF they changed) and if possible send that data to a new column or at least highlight only the changes. Is that a possible simple function, not getting into sql or access or vb or anything?Example: Original Price List Column A = name (will not change) Column B = price (B1 = $1.00, B2 = $2.00)New price list (new workbook? or new sheet?) shows Column A stays the same but B1 is now $1.25, and B2 has not changed.Is there a way to highlight B1 so I can notice the changes immediately?Or better yet is there a way to copy/dump that changed price into another column (for example, have Column C row C1 show $1.25 (price changed) but show nothing for C2 which did not change?Thanks help is [email protected] by moderator: email address edited out

I don't think that will work. You could however set up conditional formatting, and have them place a specific character in those cells. Perhaps a ".", and the conditional formatting could change the color of the cell based on the input character.

Hey all

I have a user who has converted a xls to xlsx through Excel 2007. All is well in the file, no major formulas, macros etc. There are about 2500 rows of plain text and currenct cells in the file.

When user selects a cell (or mutiple) then tries to change the font, font size, color etc Excel hangs for 10-15 seconds for simgle cell and longer for mutiple cell selection.

I turned off the Live Preview with no luck.
All users in office can access file fine but experience same issue when trying to change formatting.
Other files that open in compatability mode so not present this issue.
When i take a copy of the file i cannot replicate the issue in Excel 2003
Users profile reset
converted file (using compatability pack and agian using Excel itself) back to xls
copied all data out of file and created new xls by pasting
removed all printers apart from XPS document wiitter which i set as default (i understand HP drivers cause issues in Excel)
Issue remains after each of the above were done.

My concern is that there are many xls files stored within the org and when we roll out office 2007 to entire org all users will get this issue once files have been converted. ALSO the delay is not at an acceptable duration within the organisation.

Machines have 1Gb Ram and experience no issues with performance in any other app, microsoft or otherwise. Min requirement for 2007 is 256 i believe (but i wouldnt like to work with this!)

My next line of thought is to restore the file back... Read more

I'm running  Windows Vista on a Dell EPS 410 desktop.  I never had this happen before but when I go into a cell and highlight text then go to the Font optiions on the Home screen and to the drop down Arrow next to the capital A to change font color of text, Excel shut down when I clicked on Automatic to get the font back to black. This happened several times, so I erased the red text and rewrote it into the cell and the same thing happened again. I then rebooted and the same thing happened.

Now as I write this, Excel is working normally again. I'm not sure how long it will work and I'm writing to see if someone knows what could have caused this error and what could have automatically corrected it.

Most windows programs, selected objects color is based on the theme the computer is using. Changing the select highlight color would fix this. Excel ignores this particular theme rule. When have a set of selected cells, there is little visual difference between selected and non selected cells. The only difference that i can tell, is a slightly bolder grid line around selected cells and slight decrease in background color sometimes. This very easy to over look and may cause problems when sorting your spreadsheet, because you didn't realize you haven't selected the desired amount of cells. I have this problem all the time and I am surprised Microsoft hasn't patch this by now. Is there a way to fix this?

G'day everyone - I suspect this issue will be a tough one to get help with!

I've attached a screen-capture of a Microsoft Office Excel 2007 spreadsheet I'm working on at the moment. As you will be able to see on the screen-capture, I've marked the areas of interest and will explain here...

When I enter a name in this column (marked as '1'), I want the spreadsheet to check another column (marked as '2') to see if there is a match. If there is a match, I then want the spreadsheet to check the column marked as '3', and subtract that amount from the column marked as '4'. If there is no match between the column marked as '1' and the column marked as '2', I don't want anything to happen.

I hope that made sense, and if anyone can help me with a solution here, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi

Can someone show me how to covert a date e.g. dd/mm/yyyy so that it reads as mm/yyyy only and so that a pivot table doesn't recognise the orignal long date of dd/mm/yyyy.

Tried using custom to mm/yyyy but pivot table still reads the date as dd/mm/yyyy.

Thanks

Hello and thank you in advance for your help, I am in desperate need!

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure when this problem started as I haven't been on much the last week or so, but I've tried all the trouble shooting I could find but still cannot manage to fix this problem.

When I try to open Word or Excel I get an error message:
"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."

Not totally sure what that means, but I have ran an administrative command prompt of sfc/scannow, and all my bad files are fixed (at least that's what it tells me when I try to run it again)

I also read tips where it tells you to go to the Event Viewer to get more details on the side-by-side problem. Well this seems to be having a problem, too. I get an error message saying:
"MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly.
Name: Event Viewer
CLSID: FX:{b05566ad-fe9c-4363-be05-714cbb7cb510}"

I did just get rid of the Scour redirect virus, and I'm 99% sure this was happening while I had that; not sure if it's related, but when I scan (and am doing another just to check) I come up clean.

Thanks again for your help!

Well...have you tried uninstalling the MS Office suite...and then reinstalling?

It could have become damaged. Uninstalling/reinstalling, then updating it would take care of that possibiliity.

People, I'm new here & I need your kind assistance.

I've a long list of items that I needed to include in a documents written in Word 2007. They start from A to Z and continue with AA to AM, very much in the same way numbering for columns in Excel is listed. However when I reached AB, Word automatically changes my numbering to BB, and AC became CC. I've tried various ways to change the numbering system in Word without success. The Numbering Library in Word is also limited. Can anyone here help me to work around this?

Thank you.

I'm using Word 2007. I use it to make a lot of tables from lists. They're usually pretty simple and straightforward so I usually use Word instead of Access. Less complicated. I've never solved the problem of numbering, though. Presently working on a document that's going to be about 120 paragraphs, before I combine them and make a table. Each separate paragraph needs to be numbered sequentially, each starting with 1. The auto-numbering presents a formatting problem for me. I can't get the numbers to be included in the data, for editing purposes. Paragraphs highlighted don't highlight the auto-numbers and they can't be formatted. This present document is going to have over 6,000 lines that are going to have to be numbered. How can I get everything numbered in a way that I can include the numbers in the formatting?

Answer:Word 2007 Numbering

Hi Spiritman, welcome to TSG.

I don't understand what you mean when you say the numbers can't be formatted. How are you trying to format them? If you highlight a paragraph with numbers, the number doesn't highlight, but it does change format if you change the format of the rest of the paragraph.

Hi

So I'm currently working on this paper using ms word 2007. I understand the whole ideal of page numbering where you go to the insert ribbon, go to page numbering a viola, the pages are numbered.

But, here is my dilemma. I have like 20 pages, but I only want pages 1- 15 numbered and I've tried everything to go about doing so including manually numbering the pages which, only makes the number the same on every page.

I want to know if there is anyway to only number like pages 1-15 and leave the rest unnumbered?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Stumbled across your site while looking for insight on this issue...hopefully you guys can help!

There's a numbering value stuck just above my footnotes in a document I'm working on. It seems to be part of the footnote somehow but I can't delete it at all, nor make changes to it. Attempts to delete the offending numeric value results in deleting either the legitimate footnote or part of the document above.

Numeric value circled in red.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Deleting an odd Numbering value in Word 2007

Cough. Nevermind. I've figured it out.

For anyone that stumbles across this page seeking the same answer, here's what you do:

1. Go to the View tab
2. Click on Draft Mode to take the document into draft mode.
3. Go to the References tab
4. Click on "Show Notes"
5. Choose "View Footnote Area" or "View Endnote Area" depending on what you want to adjust
6. On the bottom pane that's just appeared, there should be a drop-down menu. From it, select "Footnote Separator/Endnote Separator" (depending on what choice you made on step 5).
7. Make your adjustment there. Clicking Reset will take it to the default divider line.

Then you just go back to the View tab and go back to Print Layout. Presto!

Hi Everyone,
I am using Word 2007 and I’m trying to come up with a solution for the following:
We have documents which we use and we would like to sequentially number each time the document is opened and printed.
For example:
DOC-YY-1
DOC-YY-2
DOC-YY-3
Where “DOC” is a fixed prefix and “YY” refers to the year: i.e., 11 and the 1 is a sequential number.
Would it be possible to embed the “1”, the sequential number in the document so that each time the document is opened, it increments the number and after it is printed, it saves that number.
For example, let’s say the last time it was printed, it had 8, and the next number would be 9. After it is printed, “9” is saved… and so on.
Also, it would be nice, if Word 2007 was able to prompt the end-user for the quantity of documents required. So the program can do multiple copies.
Is this something I can do solely in Word 2007 using VBA or would I have to use an external program?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Answer:Sequential Numbering in Word 2007

This can be achieved in VBA and probably wouldn't be too much work either. Have you used VBA at all before?

I have a long document, with annexes. I have defined a number of styles for the document, one of which, Heading 9, is for the Annex headings and is formatted to say 'Annex_A', with the A being autonumbered. The page numbers in the Annex footers are formatted to start with the chapter number, and the chapter number is set to Heading 9: expected result is therefore 'A-1, A-2...'. The annexes are all contained in separate document sections, the footers are delinked.The problem is, the sequence of page numbers in Annex A (4 pages) goes: A-1, 4-2, 8-3, 11-4; and Annex B (5 pages) goes B-1, 3-2, 4-3, b-4(sic), d-5!!Any help out there??? I have spent weeks trying to number an almost 200 page thesis, to no avail. I have the first several pages with roman numerals and the the rest should be in arabic. At first I thought it might be because of the page break I inserted to change the numbering of the second section. But I just did a "dummy" document, and the only page that is numbering is number 1. None of the others. (I checked in print preview--there are no other numbers there.) This, like so many 2007 things is driving me INSANE. I have wasted more than 40 hours on this, and the idea of manually numbering a 200 page document is not good. PLEASE can someone tell me why it is not automatically numbering? (I have made other numbered documents prior to this. It just started with this particular one.) And now, even the first page, thanks to someone else's sugggestion says {pagemergeformat} instead of 1! I have word 2007, and it says "compatibility mode" even though this is the only program I have ever had on this Toshiba. (had xp on another computer).

Hi there, I have a big problem and I need it solved by Thursday because the deadline for the PhD thesis is on Friday!

Sometime ago, I followed some instructions online in order to make Heading 7 show up as Appendices. As a result, it automates my Appendices (e.g. Appendix A, B, C, D and so on).

However, I think this problem has something to do with page breaks because my Appendix A works perfectly fine and my page numbers appear as A-1 to A-6. The problem starts when I go to Appendix B (which appears as Appendix A as well, i.e. 2 Appendix A in my document), the page numbers and heading show up as A also! It should be noted that the page numbering is once again perfect - however, when I force the Appendix numbering to change by clicking on "Set Numbering Value", and I change it to B, the whole pagination system is off.

i) my first Appendix A now has page numbers that are preceded by F (F-1,F-2, etc)
ii) my Appendix B (now fixed) also has page numbers that continue from the previous F numbering (F-7,F-8, etc) even though I unclicked the "Link to Previous Section" and also made sure to insert a "Next Page" page break.

I have similar problems throughout my entire appendices A-J, but if someone can help me with this I will try to apply it to the rest by myself, thank you so much!

Hi everyone:

I know my way around Word pretty well, but I am REALLY stuck on this one .. UGH .. lol

I have a document, where I have "Chapter - Heading 1" set for each of the main headers so that these not only show in the Table of Contents, but also so that the page numbers have the chapter number included.

(e.g., Chapter 1 - page 1-1)

Problem is .... the chapter numbering, does not go sequentially with what I am trying to do .. (e.g., I must skip numbers here and there)

25
26
27
28
30
35
etc.

I have figured out that by having the "Style" applied to the main headings and by right clicking and choosing "set numbering value" it will skip to whatever number I want ... BUT ... the page number stays attached to the previous section (as I'm using section breaks) and doesn't update.

Example:

I need to go from 28 to 30 ... was able to change the Chapter Heading number to 30, but the page numbering stays at 28-[ ] ....

Help Please !!!!

I created a paper in WordPerfect in 1995.  I must now reprint the paper, and I currently have Microsoft Word 2007.  The cover page, preface and contents pages are not numbered.   The page after the contents page begins the numbering sequence in the original document as page 1.  However, when I opened the document in Word 2007, this initial page is numbered 2 at the bottom instead of 1.  All other pages are numbered 3, 4, 5, etc.  I have tried several times to correct this, including removing the page numbers, and inserting page numbers again, with the same result of the numbering sequence beginning at 2.  I could not find anything in Help which would allow me to "force" the initial page to be numbered as 1.  I no longer have WordPerfect and do not want to purchase it for this task.  Can anyone suggest a remedy?

I've been using Office XP for quite some time and it's still on my main PC. I have a more recently built PC with Office 2007 on it. I'm just getting around to getting my feet wet in the new suite. I'm looking for suggestions about help with this specific task or a pointer to forums that can help with this and similar questions. In Word XP I created a template "small letter.dot" which opens up a "page" 5.5" x 8.5" (half a letter size page). When I start a new document based on this template in Word XP I get the page size I'm expecting plus the current date appears at the top of the page. It appears as plain text; that is it's not a field. No macro is involved. I forget how I did it. When I open a new document based on this template in Word 2007 the document size is correct but the date (or anything else) does not appear. I opened the template to edit in Word XP and do not see anything on it. I wonder what the cool trick was? I'd like to be able to recreate the behavior in Word 2007! Thanks - Dave

Hi there!
I'm a seasoned Word user, and have never had any real problems until now.
I have to revise a book that I published a few years ago, which was prepared using Word 2000 and XP SP2. I'm now using Word 2007 and Vista Home Premium, SP1. The problem is that I have a List of Illustrations (created as a table of figures) at the beginning of the book, the individual illustrations of which I have to number using the numbered list function. For some reason it is impossible for me to select the list and then number each illustration; Word creates interlinear spaces above each entry and places the number at the beginning of each empty line. It also puts the first letter of each illustration at the very end of the empty line. So I have something resembling the following (except I can't get the tabulations to show in this post ;-):

1. W
illiam Smith 73
2. N
ew York skyline 127

This matter is rather urgent (I have a deadline to meet) and so I would greatly appreciate any help.

Hey All,

You know how you have to make your chapter titles (Heading 1 style) a numbered list in order for the captions of your Figures/tables to be automatically numbered with the chapter number (i.e. Figure 4.2 This is a painting of the French Revolution)?

I was wondering if there was a work-around of not having to make your chapters a numbered and still have word recognize which chapter you are in so I can number my figures as shown in the i.e. above.

Thanks!

I am using Word 2007.

How do I add a blank first page to a book I am working on, so that it does not display when I show two pages at a time? I want the screen to display the book pages as they will appear when the book is open, with pictures on the left hand page. At the moment I have page one and other odd numbers on the left.It is the DISPLAY which I want to change, as the actual page numbering display starts at Chapter 1.Many thanks for any help.

Answer:Word 2007 - page numbering and display problem

Im not too sure about how to chnage the display of your pages, but with regards to the numbering, if you type Page Numbering in the Help section, it tells you how to start the page numbers at Zero, so then page 1 would be the second page of your book. You can also format the page numbers there. Hope you find further helps regards the display

For anyone taking a look at this: Thank You!

I'm an intermediate level Access user. I have database managing my business clients. I've been able to pull off a lot of advanced setups, but I'm stumped on this one.

Clients relate in varying ways to other DB objects. In this case, I'm assigning Clients to Routes. (This allows me to geographically plan visits to multiple clients in a given day.) I am fine assigning them to the routes. The Route data is a main form. The RouteSelections (ie the client being assigned) is a continuous subform.

The Obstacle:
What I'm looking to do is assign an order that is currently sorted on. So each RouteSelection has a number field that allows me to sort the sequence which visits will occur. (so one client will be visited first, followed by the 2nd and so on) As of now, I must manually input each RouteSelection's order number. There are frequently as many as 16 to a Route, so you can imagine that it starts to be a time sink.

The best way I can describe what I want is to provide you a reference example. One example would be NetFlix or Blockbuster Online. When you use these systems you have a queue of the movies you want to have shipped in the order you want. If you want to move one up in the queue, you click an up arrow. IF you want to move one from the bottom to say, number 3, you can enter in number 3 and click refresh. All the queue then adjusts.

Whew... so that's it . This would be a tremendous time saver ... Read more

I just got a new computer and bought Excel 2016. I'm very happy with both but am frustrated because I sell books on Amazon and have to list them. When using Excel 2007, once the listings went over 100, they would continue to number 101, 102, etc.

However, with Excel 2016, once I go past my 100th row, the rows start numbering at 1,2, 3, etc. again and it's driving me crazy. If I have over 400 different items, I'll have 4 different sets of 100 items and they won't be numbered sequentially. This makes no sense at all as a default.

In any case, I am sure there's a simple way to get consecutive numbering to exceed the 100th row but I can't figure it out.

Answer:Excel numbering starts over again at 100

Try this on a blank sheet first. Type 1 to 4 in consecutive rows. Highlight the cells from 1 to 4. In the bottom right corner is an anchor. Left click and drag down until you get to 400 or more.

Hi, I have to make 300 rows of formulas for 9 columns, each with a formula that has a specific numberit goes100101102103but I need to do this 300 times on 9 different rows and it is very time consuming to do this, so I was wondering if there was a easier way to automatically number the formulas instead of having to manually type it.sorry for the slightly confusing post, so here's a picture to help explain my situation http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/...

Answer:Excel formula numbering

In F197 you have ='190'!$K$7 which will return the value from K7 on a sheet named 190.Another way to return the same value in F197 is to use this:=INDIRECT("'" & ROW() - 7 & "'!$K$7")It may be hard to see but "'" is a double-quote apostrophe double-quote and "'! is a double-quote apostrophe exclamation point.What this will do is build the text string '190'!$K$7) which the INDIRECT function will use to return the value.As you drag this down, the ROW() function will increment but everything else will stay the same.Granted, this formula will not look like what you asked for, but it will return the same values and meets your criteria of not "having to manually type it".The only other way that I can think of is to use VBA to write the formula in the cells. A fairly simple macro can do that for you but we'd need to know the exact starting and ending cells and specifically what the formulas should look like.

I've used Filter to get a column of data, I now want to count them. I figured the best way would be to add a column at the side and number them 1 to X. I formatted the new column to Numbers and inserted a 1 at the side of the first cell. But when I click on the corner to drag down the column it just repeats the 1 instead of 2,3 etc.Ive tried holding the ctrl key, but I still get 1s.

Answer:Sequential numbering in Excel

Put a 1 in the first row and a 2 in the second row. Select both cells and copy down.

I have an Excel file with several worksheets in it. Some of the worksheets are two pages, and I want to put page numbers on the second page only --- and leave the first page blank. Is there a way to do that?

Thanks.

Answer:Page Numbering in Excel

Nope. Sorry.

Unless you wanted to write a UDF of your own (example here) and manually input the formula into every page except the first. But that sounds crappy.

Yes you can change the page numbers.

Go to File, Page Setup. Header/Footer tab and click on the Footer botton. Set the page numbers there.

We have recently upgraded from version 2000 to 2003. The page numbering I had which started at 15 by entering page number+14 has changed from 15, 16, 17 etc to 24, 34, 44 etc.

When I simultaneously enter the centre and left footer with the same formular the number correctly show 15, 16, 17 etc. However if I then delete the right hand footer the centre footer changes to 24, 34 ,44. If I then delete the centre footer the right hand footer also changes to 24, 34 etc.

Please help, as I want to use right hand footer to match page numbering from word.

I am trying to number the first column by 10's for example the #1 is in rows 1-10, the #2 is in rows 11-20 and so on. Is there an easy way to fill it in or do I have to fill it in manually using the fill down?

Answer:Excel Numbering Question.

This isn't 100% but will do most of the work.

With 1st number in A1, 2nd number in A11, whatever you like in A21.

Select A1:A21. Press F5, click Special, check Blanks, click OK.

Type =A1, press CTRL+Enter.

Reselect the range, copy and paste special (values).

Time for bed. Rgds,
Andy

I'm at wits end here, I can't play any of my favorite games If I can't enjoy decent audio. The problem I have and this is if I use headset or straight speakers, is It never comes out both sides at same time. The only exception to this is music. I can hear music On my computer fine or music in the game fine.

Im conviniced this is an audio card issue, because I used this exact same setup on my old computer. I have this problem in both games I like to play, Wow and Fallout, New vegas. in FO:NV howerver, I hear it out of one side or the other, unless im talking directly to that person. In which case I hear nothing at all.

Please... Save my sanity bullets make poor repairs for computers.

Hi,

I want to print a document with booklet-style page numbering; ie. odd pages have numbers in bottom-right corner and even pages have numbers in bottom-left corner. Is this possible to do in Word 2007?

I am searching the posts for this topic now and haven't seen anything yet. But I only have tonight to finish this so if anyone knows how to do this your quick reply is much appreciated!

Hi!

I have a problem with MS Word 2007. In many of my documents I use both bullets and numbering in different lists. Sometimes when I open these doucments I see that since my last opening of the document word has automatically converted a lot of the bullets into numbering. I don't know if it has anything to say but these documents are very large (about 400 pages).

For example, if my original document looks like this:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
1) aaaaaaa
2) aaaaaaa
3) aaaaaaa

yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
- bbbbbbbb
- bbbbbbbb
- bbbbbbbb

...it will open up looking like this:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
1) aaaaaaa
2) aaaaaaa
3) aaaaaaa

yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
4) bbbbbbbb
5) bbbbbbbb
6) bbbbbbbb

Been searching the net for a solution but can't find it anywhere. It is possible to convert the numbered list back to bullets of course, but since my documents are so large, it would take forever, and the problem keeps repeating once I correct it.

Anyone has any clue as to what is going on???

Answer:Word 2007 error: automatically converts bullets to numbering

What file format are you saving in?
Does it only do it one machine?
Have you tried logging into the same machine as a different user?
Your Word preferences may be corrupted for that user. Creating a new user and testing it will cause Word to create new preferences from defaults.

Further than that, uninstalling Office and rebooting, and then manually removing any remaining Office registry keys, followed by reinstalling Office may resolve the issue.

You can also edit your AutoCorrect and AutoFormat settings. I personally disable all autocorrect and autoformat features as i find them more annoying than helpful.

I have two displays connected to my laptop connected like this:
On the Screen Resolution page, each display is numbered and to get my screens to be oriented correctly, the numbers got disoriented.

This matters for a couple reasons, but my main issue is that my wallpaper is on the wrong screen to the two sides are swapped.

Does anyone know how to fix the numbering? Or fix my wallpaper?
