Access: Password protect a form?

Question: Access: Password protect a form?

Hi all,

i have one form I'd like to password protect. I found the following code online that I know will work:

In ON CLICK event
Dim PassWord As String
PassWord = InputBox("Enter Password")
If PassWord = "YourPassword" Then
' Open Form
DoCmd.OpenForm "YourFormName"
DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
Else
MsgBox ("You're not authorized")
End If

but the problem is that this is tied to a button on the switchboard. I have 5 different switchboard pages, and if i tie this to the first button on the physical form (in the form section), I think it will require the password for the first button on all the pages.

is there a workaround or another way to do this?

TIA,

E

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I use sxipper to manage all of my passwords and form filling. When I go to my banking wesite though, I always have to fill in my information manually.

My question is, by using sxipper to fill in my forms, are my passwords protected from hackers? Also, I read somewhere that it works just having sxipper enabled on your computer even if you're filling forms manually. Is that true?

Thanks

Here is my setup in brief: 4 computers (a mix of desktops and laptops) and a file server. My file server has a 250gb hdd which I have partitioned into 50gb for the OS and other stuff and 200gb for the actual share partion. It is strictly a XP pro based network, I don't want to set up a domain.

On every computer, I have the share partition mapped as the Z: drive for ease of use. The problem is, anyone connecting to my network can simply browse the network and map the drive or just access it and do as they please, i.e. deleting, copying, moving, etc.

For example, my mom does not need to access the server but it she likes mucking around and deleted a whole directory of MP3's because she though they were on HER computer and didn't like the music, so she selected the directory and pressed delete. GRRR...

Anyway, I swear I saw something, it might have been in a prior windows version like 95 or 98 or something where if you set a directory to share, you can require the person accessing it to enter a password to view the share. Right now on my network, you simply click and browse. I want to be sure that if someone wants to access the share, they must enter a password (and username if possible).

Looking through the sharing tab, I see I can add users I want but how would I do this without creating 4 profiles on the server to require the passwords.

I'm sure I am looking at this and going about it in totally the wrong way.

Anyone want to enlight... Read more

Answer:Password protect server access -- non-domain

best way is to add a user for every remote user that will connect to the file server. the passwords do not necessarily need to match the remote user's password, just as long as that user knows the appropos password for the server. next step set up permissions on the file server adding or denying permissions per user.

I have a password form with a text box and a command button, on click of the command button it checks that the correct password is entered in the text box, if it is it opens another form, if not a message box pops up informing an incorrect password has been entered.
When the form opens it is maximized.
I want to password form to close when the next form opens, 'DoCmd.Close,Form1,acSaveYes' after 'DoCmd.OpenForm, frmMainEmp' on the On Click event results in nothing happening at all.
'DoCmd.Close,Form1,acSaveYes' and 'DoCmd.Maximize' on the On Open event of the new form results in the password form maximizing and 'frmMainEmp' not opening.
Any idea what I am doing wrong here?

Form1 code

Code:
Private Sub Command4_Click()
If Text2 = "admin123" Then
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmMainEmp"
Else
MsgBox ("Password Incorrect")
DoCmd.CancelEvent
End If
End Sub

frmMainEmp code

Code:
Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer)
On Error GoTo Form_Open_Err

DoCmd.Maximize

Form_Open_Exit:
Exit Sub

Form_Open_Err:
MsgBox Error$
Resume Form_Open_Exit

End Sub
note that I have removed my attempts to close Form1 from all coding at this stage.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

I have a Main form with several buttons that I would only like certain users to have access. I have created a password form, but I have been unable to get it to work.

What I would like to happen is when a button on the form is clicked the password form appears. If the user enters the correct password, then another form will open. If the password is incorrect, then the user is given a message. I would also like to have the other to buttons to become accessible if the user enters the correct password. So, if the user enters the correct password on one button the other two become unprotected as well.

Then when the form is closed, the buttons become protective again.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello All! I have created a database that uses a login form that directs people to specific forms based on priviledges. However, I would like to provide a form that allows users to change their passwords (preferably with a confirm password box). Also, I have one user defined as Administrator, with a special form. I would like to create a special form for the Administrator to be able to add/delete/edit users and their security levels.

I found similar threads, but none that answered my specific questions- relative to my current setup.

Hi All,

Noob first-time poster I'm afraid!

I'm new to Access 2007 (but have used 2003 & 2000 reasonably extensively).

I'm building an App and have created all the necessary tables, as well as creating the relationships in the Database Tools area (which I know are correct - I'm a SQL Server DBA in my day job)!

Anyway, it's an almost text book example of an employers and employees database; one employer having many employees (employerID is the foreign key on the employee table).

I have created an employer form (using the wizard) which is fine, but then when I add a button to open the employee form (selecting 'Open the form and find specific records', matching employerID on the Employer table with EmployerID on the Employee table) it doesnt work. Instead, I get a popup box asking me for the EmployerID! Even if I manually enter the correct employerID when the popup box appears it actually displays all records, so I'm sure that the problem is more fundamental (and therefore, probably my fault)!

I'm hoping that I've just overlooked something REALLY stupid, but would apprecaite any suggestions!

Cheers,
Ian.

Answer:Access 2007 Form Button Wizard - Form does not open with the correct records

I have seen this kind of problem with Access 2007 VBA code which does not work when it dod in 2000-2003.
It can be a Syntax problem which you may be able to get around, if not you can get around the problem bby using a Criteria in the Query that supplies the Employee Form.
Although I would have thought it would be better design wise to have the Employees as a Subform or Tabbed Subform on your Employer Mainform.
I do not have Access 2007, only 2003 so I can't help with the VBA, but you could post the code anyway.

Did you use a Wizard to create the Employee Form, if so check the Record Source SQL it may be preventing your EmployerID from working.

Hi all

I have a simple Access (2003) db which has a single form view with a subform. The main form is a record based upon a physical case file the subform only details actions past and future, a sort of event log.

I also have a continuous form which displays all upcoming actions sorted by date on all cases for a particular user so they can see just how busy they are likely to be for a particular period. What I would like to do is have an on click() property for the detail of the continuous form so that it opens the main form filtered by the record in the continuous form that was clicked. User can then update or add new events for that case before closing form and returning to the continuous form

Hope this makes sense

Answer:MS access open single form filtered by selected record in continuous form

coasterman, welcome to the Forum.
It makes perfect sense.
If you add a Command Button to the Continuous Form and after selecting the mainform select the "Open the Form and find specific data to display". This will give you the code that you need to add to your On Click or On Double Click property or of course leave the button and use that.

Hello,
thanks for taking a look at this thread, any help will be greatly appreciated by a complete Noob.

I've been given a LOT of help by members of this Forum (especially OBP) with a DB I'm making as a first look at any type of IT product, and I'm very grateful, so thank you all.

Recently, I was advised to take a look at the "Tabbed" style of "MainForm" instead of the "Switchboard" style I originally used. I must say, I really like the tabbed style much more than the switchboard but I've hit one hurdle that I can't seem to overcome.

In the Switchboard style, I was able to set a form to load in either DATA ENTRY = YES or DATA ENTRY = NO mode depending on which sub-switchboard the user selected. For example, I had a ENTER NEW sub-switchboard that all forms would open in DATA ENTRY = YES mode & I had another EDIT EXISTING sub-switchboard that all forms would open in DATA ENTRY = NO mode.

However, with the new tabbed style, I cannot set the form load type for separate tabbs, it will only accept the LAST type as the GLOBAL type. Example, on the ENTER NEW tab, I set the form to load as DATA ENTRY = YES & sets the form to open in DATA ENTRY = YES on both tabs, then I go to the EDIT EXISTING tab & set the same form to DATA ENTRY = NO & it sets the form to open in both tabs in DATA ENTRY = NO mode.

So, my question is:
Can I set the same form to load differently on different tabs on the same MainForm?
If so, w... Read more

Answer:Solved: MS Access - Tabbed MainForm - How to make a form open a form in multiple mode

I would just copy the Subform, so you have version 1 for data entry with the Data Entry set to "Yes" and version 2 set to "No".
The only thing you need to do then is to Requery the Editing form each time you make an entry in the data entry form.
Although I prefer to just have an Edit form with a "New Record" button for the data entry.

My multi item form isn't letting me add new records, only update and delete current ones.

My guess it that this is because the form is based on a multi-table query. That's fine, I can make a new form specifically for adding new records, but I'd like to be able to salvage this form if possible. Is there any way to either force this form to accept new records in the bottom row, or is there any way to get rid of the "add record" bottom row completely so it's not misleading users into thinking they can add records here?

Thanks in advance.

Morning Guys.

I am having a problem with Access 2007. I am not good with code, so would like to resolve this without using code if possible?

I have a form "A" that I have created. I want to be able to select a row on form "A" press a button and it will open a form "B" based on the selected record in form "A".

I have had a look at the button wizard, and it lets you have the option, but when you go through the wizard, it gives you an empty box on the left and a box on the right showing all the fields in the form "A". Nothing to relate to?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hello

I have a subform which on its own - works beautifully but fails under the mainform. I use a main form to select the record that the end user wants to update. Upon update event on main form, the sub form opens, presenting fields for possible updating. The Sub Form also present 2 buttons - Save & Close or Cancel and Close (Undo). When the main form opens, the code set AllowClose as False. When the sub form is opened as a result of the update on the mainform, the issue is the Close command /code gets canceled. (Error 2501). I have tried: 1. setting AllowClose (true and False) on both forms, 2. only the main form and 3. only the subform. None of these 3 configurations resolves the issue. Also, I tried moving the buttons to the mainform instead of the sub form but that failed as well.

The application has a dozen forms and all of them utilize AllowClose functionality so the end user MUST use the buttons on the forms to force background queries (updates, deletes, perform calculations, recalc control totals etc). This is the first time I have tried to use Allow Close on a subform with buttons.

XP and Access 2007

KEY ELEMENTS OF THE CODE:

Private AllowClose As Boolean

Private Sub Form_Load()
AllowClose = False
End Sub

Private Sub Form_Unload(Cancel As Integer)
Cancel = Not AllowClose

Why not just use a listbox to display the records based on the selection on the main form? I don't think you can actually close a sub-form on a main form since it is tied to the main form.

I have a database which ultimately will have a couple of thousand records. The primary table has 30+ fields. I have lots of queries and connected reports to show various subsets of the data needed from the table. However, there are times when what is needed is all fields for a specific subset. Because the records sought often need to be filtered by several criteria, I've found the "Filter by Form" option to work well. I have a button on the main dashboard marked "Find Record" that automatically opens a search form in the "Filter by Form" mode. This allows me to enter information into as many controls as necessary, and returns exactly the right records after clicking on "Toggle Filters" on the ribbon. The problem is that ultimately I need to make this "Access-free". The goal is to create an application from the database without ribbons. I've created a button to run the filter, and another one to print the results, but when the search form is open in the "Filter by Form" mode, it greys out the buttons. I understand that there is a GotFocus command or something similar. Can anyone help with specifics, both the syntax of the command and where the command needs to be typed? Thanks a bunch...I look forward to your reply.

Answer:Help with access form (insert table value into form field)

Mhouser, if you are trying to "display" a value related to the Combo selection you can have thta value as an extra column in the combo and refer to it with simple VBA.
You should not populate a Field's actual value with that from the combo as that is duplication.

I am a new user to Access 2010. My operation system is Window 7.
I have created a data base with two tables. The first table contains a list of students and their personal information. The second table contains student subjects and has many subject records with a relationship to the student record. The relationship key is the student id.

I have created a form that populates with the student information and contains a subform that populates with that students subjects. All of this works great for existing students. I can edit the student information and and new subject records.

Now here is my problem. I would like to create a form that preceeds my current form. The user would input a student number and click search button. If that student number exists on the student data base then the form that I created should open populated with the student data and their subjects and allow the user to update it. If the student number does not exist, then I would like that same form (or a form with the same layout) to open and the only data populated is the student number that was input on the search form. The user should be able to input all of the student data and course information and hit a save button that would insert the records into the correct database tables.

Answer:Access query to open Add form or Edit Form

needaccesshelp, welcome to the Forum.
First a couple of points, you do not need to "save" the record, access does so automatically. Also when creating a New record the subform should be automatically populated with the Student Number, this is controlled by the master child links.

The combo you need is a Find combo which can be created using the combo wizard, that combo can have it's Not In List Property set to yes, which can then be used to trigger adding the student that to the table and then to the form (and combo).

Protect Forever Password (PFP)
Try our password protection software that allows you to hide your passwords against hackers !
How it works?
This software has a local database for any computers that is installed.
The password generated or defined by the user is encrypted in this database and this un-encrypted when the user want this password.
The user create the password [Create table in the local database]
The password is then encrypted in real-time with a new encryption method created in real-time for this password.

Soo :

Password ---> Stored as (ex) Md54%µ?9fpŁdmz?d^¨$~#dFpQ#@2$Q*Z&*DmqO)"édmAo (for 8 length password is about like 200 length in store (encrypted))
When the user want this password for exemple, to connect to facebook :

The software decrypt this password. Not so easy. The software decrypt 50 fakes passwords in same times. So the hackers can't see where the real password is, because the encryption is not at 1 time but in 5 + 2-perchar

Soo, there is it that the hacker can see :

qpz
pAo -> Uncrypted in real time to : pass (exemple) <-- first 3 chars of the real password (exemple)
iAo <-- Uncrypted in real time to : lolilol - Fake password 1 (or 10 , just an exemple) 3 letters
iQm <-- Fake again
PdA <-- Maybe 3 letters from the real password ? ;D
Xk7 <-- Maybe Fake?
DmP <-- Maybe?..

500..+ times

So the computer gets multiple datas Fake and Real.

This ought to be pretty simple to do. I have a small table that contains contact information for a number of businesses: name, address, etc. I have an “ID” field that is an auto number and is the PK. I have created another table that contains the business name, date of a donation and a memo field to hold the donation info (since it’s stuff instead of money.) In the second table, “ID” field is also an auto number and is PK. I have related the tables with a one to many: theoretically one business with many possible dates/donations which is the basic premise. I created a main form to input the business data and created a sub-form for the donation data based on their respective tables. Each business will be unique but a business may give multiple donations, say one each month or more – whatever.

I can’t get it to work. I’ve got that big, honkin’ Access 2000 Developer’s Handbook but am still getting up to speed using it…. but I’ll keep looking until I hear from someone!

Thanks.

Hi,
I've developed a database in Access 2010 and am using the Navigation Form for users to access the different forms and it's working very well. The problem is we still have some workers who are on Windows XP boxes with Office 2007 and the Navigation Form won't work for them. I've been asked to develop an Access 2007 Switchboard which will mimic the Navigation form so there is some continuity between them and so that once all the systems have been upgraded the users willbe familiar with the interface. I easily designed a form with the look or the Navigation Form but haven't been able to figure out how to handle opening the different subforms on the one main form. Is it possible to place an Unbound Frame on the form and with a click of a button open a subform in the Frame or have a button just open a subform? How would that be coded?

Thanks for your assistance

I am a bit confused because Subforms normally open when a mainform opens.
I am not familiar with the Access 2010 navigation form so I am not sure what you are trying to do.

Couldn't you use the Administration method to lock them?Other than that, I know that there are alot of FREE programs that will lock your folders for you, and there are some that will simply make them invisible, where no one can see them at all.But I'm guessing that you should be able to do it right now, if you have Administration rights on the computer.

the screensaver reset itself a few weeks ago and i thought nothing of it, no one is around my comp anymore to neccessatate it being password protected. I did however, want a screensaver and i also wanted the monitor to shut off after x amount of time.

So today, I set the same screensaver and i set the power off function, then i took a nap for two hours. I wake up and see this new window in the screen, now the monitor should have shut off an hour ago, and i have never seen this window before. the window said that the comp was locked and that only an admin could unlock it, but it wasn't a startup screen and it didn't show my computer's name like i had set it. i tried to just click okay but it was really locked, so i typed my password and got in and now i'm writing this to ask why the new window popped up and not the startup screen like always and to ask why it doesnt show the real computer name i set it too now?

I have had a rash of trojan viruses too, like two a day, could this maybe change some settings or something that i don't know about? when i do get a virus, i immediately update and do a full scan and get rid of it.

Answer:password protect

My guess is that you're noticing the difference between the welcome screen and the older windows default logon.

Try going into control panel -> user accounts -> change the way users logon -> uncheck the wecome screen box.

If you post a pic of the new screen when you're trying to get back into windows we might be able to help a bit more.

Question: password protect

When I got my computer some years back,I remember having to type in a password and my name (I think) to open Windows or to just enter the computer. I was thinking that you could do something to get rid of the sign in box and I did. So when i turn it on it starts up Windows.
Is there a password protection at startup I can install to prevent prying eyes from getting into my computer?

Answer:password protect

There is a BIOS password you can set that will not allow the system to boot up until the password is entered, so it won;t even go into Windows.

You do this by entering the Startup when your system is just starting to boot up. Usually you will see something along the lines of Pres F1 to enter Setup or maybe it'll be Delete, or something else. In the BIOS setup, you will be able to find the Security section that will allow you to enable the password, and set what the password is.

One word of warning though, don;t lose that password!!

Question: Password protect?

Hey guys, I have a problem. The guys I work with are usually here before I come to work and here after I leave (sometimes) and they usually use mine and my co-workers computer for who knows what.

For the past two weeks or so, when I come in my computer has error messages on it and the whole system has been acting strangely. I've been randomly getting kicked out of QBs, have had problems opening folders because I dont have access to the network when I had just opened them one minute ago, I also just found out the same thing has been happening to my co-workers computer as well.

I know there is a way you can make is so you have to put in a password when it comes off the screensaver but how? Is there another solution? I just dont want them to have access to our pc's anymore because they havent the faintest ideas about anything computer related and I'd really hate to come in to a broken one rolleyes

Thanks.

Answer:Password protect?

Hi, if the computer needs to stay on then to simply password protect after the screensaver is quite simple. Go to control panel, click display, then the screensaver tab, next to the list of available screensavers is the check button you require. I'm new to all this but I think that will sort it out.

I want to know how I can password protect IE7 so that anytime the IE app is called to load, it will ask for a password. Correct password = internet access, incorrect password = no internet access. There are no Windows users setup except for Admin (and I would rather not do that either), so protecting folders etc. with that is not an option.

I have looked extensively for a 3rd party app or add-on, but cannot find anything. Strange, as I would think this would be something that many people/families would like. Just something simple to block IE only. Freeware would be nice, too.

Thanks in advance!

Question: Password Protect

Hi,

I believe this is my first post here, so I guess I new.

I'm curious to know, if a utility, third party software or anything that would accomplish, prompting for a password before any download takes place (mainly from the Internet) exists? Multiple people use my PC at any given time, and I want to know what goes on here. I don't want someone accessing a game site or something, where they have to install a plug in or what not. I just went through hell with my core duo running like an 8088. Not to say it came from that, I don't know, but if I can rule that out the better. I've seen programs that will password protect files/folder, but I need to prevent downloads, and creating an administrator account seperately, did not seem to work as I thought it was suppose to.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

StuCazz

Answer:Password Protect

Any internet usage means some kind of downloading. When you open a webpage, a bunch of images and text is downloaded. There is no way for any program to tell the difference.

You may want to give the untrusted users very low privileges (down to guest level even) and allow them to use only the safer browsers like Opera or Firefox.

Maybe describe the situation a bit more. What kind of people are these and what are they using the computer for?

Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 5 or later) has an AutoComplete feature that helps you
fill in Web-based forms. If the feature is enabled, each time you submit data in a form, the
information is encrypted and stored on your local machine. The next time you encounter a form
field with the same internal field name, IE tries to complete that field automatically. As
soon as you type a letter that matches the beginning of any recorded value for that field, IE
displays a list of possible values from which you can choose. To see all saved values, you
press the Down Arrow.

The Internet Options applet in Control Panel lets you turn AutoComplete on and off and clear
all its recorded data. It doesn't, however, let you clear form fields selectively or view the
stored data. This issue's utility, AutoWhat? 2, fills the gap. With AutoWhat? 2, you can view
what's stored for each input field name, delete incorrect values, and preload the system with
additional values.

AutoWhat? was originally released as a PC Magazine Extra utility in November 1999.... Read more

Hi All,

I am trying to put a combo box on a form that will allow the user to both scroll through the list and start typing the first name of the employee to find the desired name. Clicking on the desired name would open the appropriate record.
So far, I have successfully created:

A 'multi column' combo box, that shows the information that I want, called "cboSelectBEP"
The combo box lives on a form called "Basic Employee Profile"
The combo box is fed from a query called "Basic Employee Profile Query"
All the main data is kept on a table called "Employee Information"
What I seem to be missing is the following functionality:

The combo box shows the test record (ie the list) when you click on the arrow but does not allow you to type the employee's name in to search
When you do click on the test record, it doesn't actually go to any record - other than the default record - btw - how can I change that so the form comes up blank?
I think part of the issue lies in the fact that my query takes the First & Last names from the "Employee Information" table and puts them together in a 'full name' format. I know the topic of comboboxes with 'search while type' functionality has been covered many times before but I've been searching the internet for 3 days and can't seem to find where I'm going wrong! Any help is appreciated!

I have a home pc,(win98se) that is used by myself and three others.
I am currently protected with norton system works 02pe, and free zone alarm 3.1, (nortons internet security is on the way).

I am very happy with the defense I get from zone alarm, it passes the test from all the test sites I visit, with no technical configuration for me, cudos!!

I know I will get some static here, but I like NSW02PE. It does what I intended without getting in the way, (I have large resources and memory).

My problem is that I still have internal hacking going on. The first thing that anyone else does is dissable the firewall, or lower the settings to low safe zone/LOW INTERNET ZONES. And the other thing is to turn off NSW02pe

Isn't there a way that the system administrator, (me) responsible for unhacking all the spyware/trojans/viruses... to password protect the systems I put into place. I know I can require a password for everyone, (been there did that), but still, how do I make them leave the firewall and anti-virus in place.

Basically I want to mandate that a firewall and virus checking system stay in place on my system, at all times. (I've been burned so often I hate to say).

I'm aware that I might possibly be posting in the wrong forum, but I think I may have hit the mark.

I'm looking for a trick or program that will allow me to password protect or disable public users from turning off the antivirus, changing rules for the firewall, and even block useage of the network printers. The computers in question are all running on Windows XP and are on a large network that allows just any old schmuck to walk in and modify running processes and print off whatever they'd like. The school I am in would also like to prevent the installation of new programs (we have issues with children coming in and installing games or adults downloading illicit software (malware packages included).

Being unfamiliar with the setup of the network, I'm looking for directions in understanding and being able to lock down on these particular actions. What should I know to do these things and how can I do them? I have an intermediate knowledge of XP and computers in general, but as I said, I'm not familiar with the network or networks in general.

Help will be forever appreciated.

Is there anyway to make users enter a password to print to a network printer. Here is the situation: I have about 14 computers on a network all connected via a switch. I am trying to find a program that allows me to password protect my folders.

It's not that simple, however. I need one that will be perfect to my preferences. I need a program that will simply put a password on an entire folder to block the unauthorized from entering. I DO NOT want a program that moves the folder. Also, I do not want it to compress and hide or lock or whatever. I just want to find a program that acts like a chastity belt on my folders... Put in a key and it's ready to go.

This may sound easy to find, but I have yet to find the software. I would like it to be freeware and usable on Windows 2000.

If anyone can direct me to the software I described, please do. Thanks

Hi All,

I'm currently in need of a tool or piece of software that will password, or even easier, lock a folder.
At the moment, Domain Admins within our network are able to view pretty much all of the C drive. I am a DA myself.

I'd preferably like to be able to gain access just by opening it (thus authenticating with my account). At the least, i will have to manually enter a password each time.

Can anybody recommend a tool or software that is safe? Opensource is always good...

if there's any program or script I can create?

thanks

Answer:Password Protect Folder USB

Hey, unfortunately because of the nature of USB storage (and the way in which they can be read by many OSes [which you wouldn't be able to script for]) The only secure way to password protect a USB stick is by encrypting the files within or using an encrypted file system.

I've heard good things about TrueCrypt and the time it takes to encrypt/decrypt. It depends entirely on how badly you need to make the files inaccessible.

Cheers,
Jamey

I hope someone can help.....I cannot seem to find the setting to get my laptop to ask for a password upon booting! Ive looked in the accounts setting and cant find anything. The nearest I have found is under the accounts/sign-in options/require sign in but I only have the option to choose 'never' or 'when pc wakes from sleep'.

Answer:how to password protect on bootup

Hello Rud, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If all accounts have a password added to them, then you should be required to sign in at startup by default unless you used the tutorial below to set Windows to automatically sign in to an account at startup.

I would like to password protect read access to a folder in WinXP SP2. I'd still like to allow programs to write to it without problems, I just don't want anyone to be able to go through and read it.

The purpose: I have a program that logs all my instant message programs and keeps them in a folder. I would like to keep people from browsing through this folder without a password.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Password Protect folder

You will have to get a 3rd party tool for that... or just put a password on your profile and make it private.

Hi there,

I have a complicated problem. My free trial of Folder Protect 1.9.2 has just expired. The problem is that, when the software trial expired I was prompted to "Unprotect" the protected files, but instead I elected to close the icon. Upon realizing this, I tried to open the software again and return to the said icon, but it simply does not open. Then, I tried to "Uninstall Folder Protect" both from Add or Remove Programs and from Program Files but I received the following message:

Uninstall is password protected. Run Folder Protect and uninstall from Setting.

As you already know, because my trial has expired, I have run out of runs. I have thought about downloading the full version of Folder Protect 1.9.2 but I don't know what might happen. I still have the Folder Protect Setup program from the previous installation. Should I just re-install it?

Please, help, because I really want to be able to recover my files.

Thanks.

Answer:Problem with Password Protect 1.9.2

Try re-installing the trial version, but it may not install if it detects that the trial has expired, in which case you'll have to buy the full version. Personally I would never use any locking software on anything as there's just too much risk of being locked out.

Is it possible to password protect a Hard drive entirely, independent of OS.

I just came across an ebay auction (3 Seagate disks) and according to the seller 2 of the drives are password protected and he removed password protection for one.

I know that there are applications using which you could password protect a disk.

Answer:Password Protect Harddrive?

Yes. Newer hard drives can be password protected so that you cant use them without the password. I saw a post on another forum where you could buy a service to unlock a passworded hard drive at a cost of about $50.00 per drive and the post said it doesnt work on all units. For that price I would buy a new hard drive.
